- 0:11Hello friends, It is Tuesday the 5th of September.
- 0:16I'm Sean and so good that you could invite me into your day.
- 0:21At you and I, we can read a chapter of God's Word together.
- 0:26I wonder what the rest of your day looks like.
- 0:28Will you be heading off to work? Will you be heading off to
- 0:30school? Will you be heading off to all
- 0:33the jobs that you got planned for today?
- 0:34Or does today look like a spacious day?
- 0:38I don't know. But whatever it looks like, I
- 0:42hope that your day ahead is colored and punctuated by an
- 0:47injection of God's word. So I'm so glad that you're
- 0:51joining us. And this might be one of these
- 0:52strange readings where you think, how does this inject the
- 0:55Holy Spirit into my day? But this is God speaking about
- 1:00his big picture, engaging with humanity.
- 1:03And and this is a message for the nation.
- 1:05This chapter, and some of it will be scary and some of it
- 1:08will be encouraging. But in all of it, when you hear
- 1:11that God is sovereign. So join me, friends.
- 1:14Let us read together. Isaiah, Chapter 34.
- 1:29Come here and listen. No nations of the earth.
- 1:32Let the world and everything in it hear my words, For the Lord
- 1:36is enraged against the nations. His fury is against all their
- 1:40armies. He will completely destroy them,
- 1:44dooming them to slaughter. Their dead will be left
- 1:48unburied, and the stench of rotting bodies will fill the
- 1:51land. The mountains will flow with
- 1:55their blood. The heavens above will melt away
- 1:58and disappear like a rolled up scroll.
- 2:02The stars will fall from the sky like withered leaves from a
- 2:06Grapevine or shriveled figs from a fig tree.
- 2:10And when my sword has finished its work in the heavens, it will
- 2:14fall upon Edom, the nation I have marked for destruction.
- 2:19The sword of the Lord is drenched with blood and covered
- 2:23with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of
- 2:27Rams prepared for sacrifice. Yes, the Lord will offer a
- 2:32sacrifice in the city of Bosra. He will make a mighty slaughter
- 2:37in Edom. Even men as strong as wild oxen
- 2:40will die, the young men alongside the veterans.
- 2:45The land will be soaked with blood and the soil enriched with
- 2:48fat, for it is the day of the Lord's revenge, the year when
- 2:54Eden will be paid back for all it did to Israel.
- 2:58The streams of Eden will be filled with burning pitch, and
- 3:02the ground will be covered with fire.
- 3:05This judgment on Eden will never end.
- 3:08The smoke of its burning will rise forever.
- 3:11The land will lie deserted from generation to generation.
- 3:15No one will live there any more, and it will be haunted by the
- 3:19desert owl and the screech owl, the great owl and the Raven.
- 3:24For God will measure that land carefully.
- 3:27He will measure it for chaos and destruction.
- 3:31It will be called the Land of Nothing, and all its nobles will
- 3:35soon be gone. Thorns will overrun its palaces.
- 3:39Nettles and thistles will grow in its forts.
- 3:42The ruins will be a haunt for jackals and a home for owls.
- 3:47Desert animals will mingle there with hyhenas, their howls
- 3:51filling the night. Wild goats will bleat at one
- 3:55another among the ruins, and night creatures will come there
- 3:58to rest. There the owl will make her nest
- 4:02and lay her eggs. She will hatch her young and
- 4:05cover them with her wings, and the buzzards will come, each one
- 4:09with its mate. Search the book of the Lord and
- 4:13see what He will do. Not one of these birds and
- 4:17animals will be missing, and none will lack a mate, for the
- 4:21Lord has promised this. His spirit will make it all come
- 4:25true. He has surveyed and divided the
- 4:28land and deeded it over to these creatures.
- 4:32They will possess it forever, from generation to generation.
- 4:48Lord, sometimes we can make the mistake of feeling like you are
- 4:52sitting silently outside of the arena of life, and that we are
- 4:57struggling through and we call out to you and you don't answer
- 5:02and you remain disengaged. But if there's one thing that
- 5:06this chapter throws in our faces, it's that you are not
- 5:11silent. You have your heart of justice,
- 5:17and in your good time, you will bring all things to justice in
- 5:23the way that you know best. And even the little owls and the
- 5:29buzzards and the desert animals and all of those lowly
- 5:35creatures, including us, Sometimes we are.
- 5:39They are all in your care. You are a God who remembers the
- 5:45mighty acts of nations and cares about the smallest desert
- 5:50animal, whether it has a mate or not.
- 5:53Thank you for your mighty oversight of all of your
- 5:57creation, and we submit to you and Your Lordship.
- 6:01And we are so grateful that your loving Father's eye rests upon
- 6:06us. We love you and we pray all
- 6:10these things in Jesus name come in.
