- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and today we're going to talk about something important — visiting the hospital. Luna: Oh, that's a good one. I hope I don't need it, but it's smart to know some phrases. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the most basic thing you'd say: Mimi ni mgonjwa. That means 'I am sick.' Listen again: Mimi ni mgonjwa. Luna: Mimi ni mgonjwa. I am sick. Hmm, that's useful. Lucas: Yes. And if you need a doctor, you say: Nahitaji daktari. That's 'I need a doctor.' Say it with me: Nahitaji daktari. Luna: Nahitaji daktari. I need a doctor. So if I'm feeling really bad, I say both: Mimi ni mgonjwa, nahitaji daktari. Lucas: Perfect, Luna. Now, how do you ask where the hospital is? Hospitali iko wapi? Let's break it: hospitali means 'hospital', iko means 'is', wapi means 'where'. So: Hospitali iko wapi? Luna: Hospitali iko wapi? Where is the hospital? That's a good one to know. Lucas: And a common symptom: Nina maumivu ya kichwa. That means 'I have a headache.' Nina maumivu ya kichwa. Luna: Nina maumivu ya kichwa. I have a headache. Ooh, I had that last week. Lucas: One more helpful phrase: Tafadhali nisaidie. Please help me. Tafadhali nisaidie. Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Please help me. That could be really important. Lucas: Now, let's put them together in a little scene. Imagine you're not feeling well and you're in a new town. You say: Mimi ni mgonjwa, nahitaji daktari. Hospitali iko wapi? Luna: And someone answers: Hospitali iko karibu. The hospital is near. That's simple. Lucas: Right, you learned 'karibu' before meaning 'welcome' or 'near'. So, quick honest thing — a few listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's what keeps this show going without ads. We really appreciate that. Luna: Yeah, it's a small thing that makes a big difference for us. And it helps us keep making these episodes. Lucas: Back to the phrases. Let's review them all. First: Mimi ni mgonjwa. Luna: Mimi ni mgonjwa. Lucas: Nahitaji daktari. Luna: Nahitaji daktari. Lucas: Hospitali iko wapi? Luna: Hospitali iko wapi? Lucas: Nina maumivu ya kichwa. Luna: Nina maumivu ya kichwa. Lucas: Tafadhali nisaidie. Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Lucas: Great. Now, what if you need to say 'I have a stomachache'? That's Nina maumivu ya tumbo. But that's for another day. For now, practice these five. Luna: I will. These are so important. I'm going to say them to myself in the mirror tonight. Lucas: That's the way. Repetition is key. And remember, you can find all the phrases in the show notes on Fexingo. Luna: Until next time, this is Luna. Lucas: And Lucas, reminding you to practice a little every day. Tutaonana!
