- 1:35OK, guys. So I wanted to do this one about
- 1:37toddlers because I feel like toddlers are such an interesting
- 1:40age for autism. You know, the youngest you can
- 1:42diagnose somebody with autism is typically around three years
- 1:45old. That's when you kind of start
- 1:46looking at somebody. And so, you know, three to five
- 1:48years old, you know, these toddlers and these little tots
- 1:50walking about and, you know, they're becoming their own
- 1:52people. And I think it's really
- 1:53interesting if we can kind of home in on specific traits of
- 1:56autism and see if we can identify something early on
- 1:58because the earlier you get help, the better conditions life
- 2:01can be. And that's a good thing.
- 2:03So I've listed out five the most interesting actually signs of
- 2:08autism in toddlers, which I think you definitely do need to
- 2:10see. And if thinking, you know, hey
- 2:12my toddler, you know it's on the spectrum.
- 2:14Or if you're watching this and you know your toddler's already
- 2:16on the spectrum. I actually have a membership
- 2:18website where you can actually subscribe for a monthly fee to
- 2:21actually join in on group sessions with me where I can
- 2:23coach you personally on anything to do lifestyle wise.
- 2:27And you also get a monthly course from me and a little
- 2:29little workbook and stuff and a download PDF guidebook.
- 2:32There's no pressure on completing the courses.
- 2:33I mean like it's completely free.
- 2:34It's just like educational content.
- 2:36And if you're interested in that, head over to level of
- 2:38autism.net right now. Click the join button.
- 2:41It's going to be super awesome. OK, guys, so let's go for the
- 2:44first one. Now, the first sign of autism
- 2:46toddlers is non responsive to name.
- 2:49But typically people on the autism spectrum when they are
- 2:51toddlers, they won't be able to respond to you calling their
- 2:54name. So if you're like, hey Jonathan,
- 2:56Jonathan, Jonathan. And you could be like asking
- 2:57them like 100 times like for their name and they'd be like
- 3:00just not listening. Like it's if they're deaf, like
- 3:03they can't hear, like they have no kind of like way of hearing
- 3:06you. And a lot of times some kids are
- 3:08actually diagnosed as deaf when they're actually not deaf.
- 3:11It's just that they are having an issue with the communication
- 3:14because they have an autism spectrum condition, right.
- 3:16And so this is one of the most early kind of signs is that non
- 3:20responsive to name is something that is really common in autism
- 3:23in toddlers, but it's something that people can't just forget
- 3:25because they think, oh, they're just toddlers, you know they
- 3:27minded they're only have selected hearing and all that
- 3:28stuff. So I think it's quite
- 3:30interesting but definitely want to look out for.
- 3:31And it's definitely one of the more common ones like an early
- 3:33like warning sign basically. OK.
- 3:35So #2 is not wanting hugs and emotional kind of contact now as
- 3:41autism impact kind of like social communication and
- 3:43emotional understanding in people.
- 3:45Autistic toddlers probably won't want to have hugs all the time.
- 3:48They'll be kind of adverse for you, kind of wanted to hug them
- 3:50all the time or give them kisses and, you know, sit them on your
- 3:52knee and tell them stories. They don't want that kind of
- 3:54social interaction. It's quite heavy on them.
- 3:55It's quite, it weighs on them and that gets them a bit shock,
- 3:59I guess. And they don't have to respond
- 4:01to that. And this kind of lack of
- 4:03emotional connection can be a good early warning sign that
- 4:07this person is on the autism spectrum.
- 4:09It doesn't mean that they don't love you as a parent or anything
- 4:12like that. It just means that they have an
- 4:13issue with understanding that emotional communication, which
- 4:16is a typical trait of autism and it has nothing to reflect on
- 4:19parenting at all. So please, mums and dads, that
- 4:22you're doing the best you can. And I know you guys are amazing,
- 4:24so please don't worry about that.
- 4:25You guys are awesome. Big shout out to awesome
- 4:28parents. I feel like parents have kids on
- 4:29the spectrum, don't get enough recognition.
- 4:31And I just want to let you know that I find you so valuable.
- 4:33Thank you so much for doing you doing.
- 4:35You guys are amazing. All right, so moving on too, #3
- 4:39actually fall down to #3. If you have anything to add in
- 4:42this sort of going through these, please pop them in a
- 4:44comment down below. Actually read every single
- 4:46comment so it's never wasted. I really love interacting with
- 4:48you guys and if you want to check me out on anywhere socials
- 4:50links are down below as well. But if you're getting value from
- 4:53this, please give this video a thumbs up.
- 4:54It would be super awesome if you just help me out a lot if you
- 4:57just exchange, you know my content for a like from you.
- 5:00Just a little thumbs up on the video.
- 5:01It makes a heck of a difference to me.
- 5:02OK, so #3 is lonely play. Now autistic children will favor
- 5:07isolated play then playing in groups of other kids or playing
- 5:11with one-on-one with another kid.
- 5:12And it's not because they are arrogant or they just don't like
- 5:15other kids. It's because the social
- 5:17interaction that impacts people on the autism spectrum is
- 5:19present in everybody from day one.
- 5:22So when they're trying to play, they are unaware of the social
- 5:27constructs, these unwritten social rules that people pick up
- 5:30just by being social commutative.
- 5:33That's kind of a bit of a miss of people on the autism
- 5:35spectrum. So if you notice that a child is
- 5:37being more isolated, play lone play and have difficulty
- 5:40inviting children into play with them and vice versa.
- 5:42When children invite them into play in their circle, they have
- 5:46a bit of an issue trying to adapt to that social circle.
- 5:49And this is a common autism trait and it's actually very
- 5:51prominent of people on the autism spectrum.
- 5:54OK, so #4 is a very easy one and very common.
- 5:56And it's like it's, you know, it's no secret, but lack of eye
- 5:59contact and issues with maintaining keeping eye contact
- 6:02is a huge, huge giveaway for people on the autism spectrum,
- 6:05as making eye contact is a huge issue for people on the autism
- 6:08spectrum. It's something that you will
- 6:10typically notice and so on because it's it's a very strange
- 6:13thing to a newer typical person or a non autistic person who's
- 6:17trying to talk to somebody and they don't make eye contact and
- 6:19they find it very strange where autistic people find this quite
- 6:21comfortable to not make eye contact.
- 6:22So that is a huge red flag and there's a good indication that
- 6:26the person may be on the autism spectrum.
- 6:28OK, so #5 is quite an interesting one.
- 6:31This is not smiling back at you when you smile at them.
- 6:35So autism comes with a whole host of things and one of the
- 6:37things is like facial blindness, which is like emotional
- 6:40connection. So knowing if someone happy or
- 6:43sad by the facial expressions is very difficult for someone on
- 6:46the autism spectrum to grasp and understand fully.
- 6:48So when you smile, that's one on the autism spectrum, they may
- 6:51not understand that you're smiling.
- 6:52So they wouldn't really necessarily smile back.
- 6:54And this could be loads of things, could be the fact that
- 6:56they can't communicate their emotions, It could be that they
- 6:58can't read your face and it could be that they had just a
- 7:00completely zoned out of the situation and unaware of what is
- 7:03going on. There's so many factors that
- 7:04come into it, but this is a huge one.
- 7:06You know, not understanding and repeating that, you know that
- 7:11emotional connection will actually reflect in someone on
- 7:13the autism spectrum. I find it very, very
- 7:15interesting, but it's a huge red flag.
- 7:17Now, if you found this video helpful for other people, please
