- 32:08Speaker 33: You know me, and say is I'm only half a
- 32:11Speaker 33: star without her, and you know what I mean, and
- 32:13Speaker 33: and so I think it's completes stuff. And I think
- 32:16Speaker 33: I'm feel a bit more confident in my rambling when
- 32:19Speaker 33: she's there to just fact check me so that we
- 32:22Speaker 33: can do the we can when it comes down to.
- 32:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you like, do you know that? You know
- 32:30Speaker 5: you can? For example, you can buy glasses now that
- 32:34Speaker 5: will alter.
- 32:36Speaker 33: Your vision as you're watching because of the liquid that
- 32:38Speaker 33: they're putting into the new lenses that are coming out.
- 32:41Speaker 5: And she'll be like, that's not happening. I was like,
- 32:44Speaker 5: yes it is. Who's doing it? I don't know when
- 32:47Speaker 5: did they make it? I don't know who's tanned. I
- 32:49Speaker 5: don't know, but you can find that there. I can
- 32:51Speaker 5: just show you I've heard this. Then she does, so
- 32:54Speaker 5: she does all the legwork while I'm sort.
- 32:56Speaker 33: Of explaining where I got the information from, and then
- 32:59Speaker 33: she'll give you the act of who the company is,
- 33:01Speaker 33: where you can find.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Them and all that.
- 33:03Speaker 33: So as a dyslectic I've got someone who can, you know,
- 33:06Speaker 33: you know, keep me in check online and if I
- 33:10Speaker 33: get something wrong. No, it was it wasn't two million people.
- 33:14Speaker 33: It was two hundred thousand people. You've got the number wrong.
- 33:18Speaker 5: It happened, but the numbers are out place. Many people
- 33:22Speaker 5: wants yeah, okay, I find.
- 33:25Speaker 1: The two of you guys.
- 33:27Speaker 6: Just the dynamic of how you guys have worked through
- 33:30Speaker 6: just the whole generation and media like this. The two
- 33:33Speaker 6: of you guys have, to me, are not only the
- 33:38Speaker 6: epitome of a working culture as just a duo when
- 33:43Speaker 6: the two of you guys work together, but you when
- 33:46Speaker 6: you consider the two of you guys as a married
- 33:49Speaker 6: couple navigating through a show like this, I look at
- 33:53Speaker 6: it in just amazement. I'm like, man, this is just
- 33:56Speaker 6: poetry in motion right here. It is the ultimate of
- 33:59Speaker 6: understanding of each other and who you both are and
- 34:02Speaker 6: what you both both would bring to a conversation. But
- 34:05Speaker 6: then to actually play out the way that you do
- 34:07Speaker 6: with such comfort and such ease, to me is just phenomenal.
- 34:11Speaker 6: Is that something that is different? Like, is your communication
- 34:14Speaker 6: different on the air than it is Let's just say,
- 34:16Speaker 6: and you're private if you don't mind me asking, or
- 34:19Speaker 6: is this no how you guys kind of you know
- 34:22Speaker 6: your your communication is now based around is it around
- 34:24Speaker 6: this kind of conduct?
- 34:26Speaker 33: Yes, because when we're on air, we know that we
- 34:30Speaker 33: are you know, if she knows my strength, I know
- 34:32Speaker 33: her strength. And then one thing that we don't like
- 34:34Speaker 33: doing is talking over each other. Right, so we have
- 34:37Speaker 33: hand signaled, you know.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Because this radio is so much easier.
- 34:40Speaker 33: That's why I want to visualize some of our work
- 34:43Speaker 33: because people like, why are you doing that?
- 34:46Speaker 16: What?
- 34:46Speaker 33: What's that little tweet? And distracting you from that actual conversation.
- 34:50Speaker 33: That's why I love radio and and.
- 34:52Speaker 5: So so if i'm if I if so, For example,
- 34:55Speaker 5: I'm talking to you right now, if you wanted to
- 34:57Speaker 5: just step in on that point right.
- 34:59Speaker 33: There, you would give me a signal and I would
- 35:02Speaker 33: like finish my point and I'll stop, and then you
- 35:04Speaker 33: would just add to.
- 35:05Speaker 5: It, and then you give me like that's what I
- 35:08Speaker 5: want to tell.
- 35:08Speaker 33: You, whether thumbs up or whatever our thingle is, so
- 35:11Speaker 33: that I can continue the conversation. So me and sh
- 35:13Speaker 33: I've been doing this for ten years where she will
- 35:16Speaker 33: give some part of a fact and I've got something
- 35:19Speaker 33: to say there. Instead of interrupting her, I'll just put
- 35:23Speaker 33: my hand up or I will give her like just
- 35:25Speaker 33: stop right there. I just need to add something at
- 35:28Speaker 33: this point, because if you carry on talking, what I
- 35:31Speaker 33: want to say, what we've relevant. So it's a bit
- 35:34Speaker 33: of a it's a bit of a like okay, I'm
- 35:37Speaker 33: gonna flow. Okay, he wants to say something here, let
- 35:39Speaker 33: me just stop for a second.
- 35:40Speaker 5: And soon as she.
- 35:41Speaker 33: Stops, I give my little bit of input what I
- 35:44Speaker 33: needed to do in that action, and then it changes
- 35:47Speaker 33: the you know, from reading from a script or a
- 35:49Speaker 33: bit of fact with this, So this factoid that I've
- 35:53Speaker 33: thrown in there, or this joke I've thrown in there,
- 35:56Speaker 33: or this bit of knowledge that our cup or my opinion,
- 36:01Speaker 33: and that point I've thrown in then give the conversation
- 36:05Speaker 33: more of a what we find is more of a
- 36:09Speaker 33: a discussion based kind of content as opposed to information.
- 36:13Speaker 33: So we're reading from a script, we're not We're having
- 36:16Speaker 33: this engagement with each other even though we are reading
- 36:19Speaker 33: you facts, but it's just kind of back and forth
- 36:21Speaker 33: we're having. Because of my dyslexia, I don't read, so
- 36:23Speaker 33: I have to get all.
- 36:25Speaker 5: That stuff into my brain.
- 36:26Speaker 33: And as it leaks out while she's doing the proper work,
- 36:30Speaker 33: like you know, reading it and getting everyone.
- 36:31Speaker 5: In the fact, I will. I will then jump in
- 36:35Speaker 5: at random point where that's why you the conversation is
- 36:38Speaker 5: it could go in any which way, you know what
- 36:40Speaker 5: I mean.
- 36:41Speaker 33: Yeah, And we've hung in the past like we're going
- 36:43Speaker 33: to do this, and then something hit me while we
- 36:46Speaker 33: were doing something, and I haven't had time to tell her,
- 36:49Speaker 33: so I would put my hand up and then that
- 36:52Speaker 33: will then navigate because.
- 36:53Speaker 5: We're live on air where the conversation goes right. So
- 36:56Speaker 5: we work together like that.
- 36:58Speaker 33: And then when she's doing her stuff, and if she
- 37:01Speaker 33: wants to jump in and say I've got something wrong,
- 37:04Speaker 33: she would make a hand signal and I would stop after.
- 37:06Speaker 5: My point, and then she would jump in and go
- 37:08Speaker 5: and you know, correct if she.
- 37:10Speaker 33: Needs to or take you to the right part of
- 37:13Speaker 33: that conversation or that or that information so that I
- 37:17Speaker 33: don't make a mistake on air, so that I can
- 37:20Speaker 33: build on that or she can.
- 37:22Speaker 5: Build on it. Do you get where coming from.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Shay is awesome?
- 37:26Speaker 5: There's a couple of signs to it.
- 37:28Speaker 6: Yeah, she's you know, both of you guys in your
- 37:31Speaker 6: own right are amongst the best in our culture that
- 37:35Speaker 6: we have to offer when it comes to journalism and
- 37:38Speaker 6: on their personalities. You guys specifically have been doing this
- 37:42Speaker 6: for such a long time, over a decade into almost
- 37:45Speaker 6: two decades in your case, right, and and so you
- 37:47Speaker 6: have this kind of right and you have the skill
- 37:52Speaker 6: that has been honed and the two of you guys,
- 37:54Speaker 6: but and then you add this element of the two
- 37:56Speaker 6: of you guys knowing and understanding each other, and like
- 37:58Speaker 6: you said, that will break any script any day of
- 38:01Speaker 6: the week because of your ability to understand each other
- 38:04Speaker 6: as to how to interject properly and make that seem
- 38:07Speaker 6: like a seamless conversation to where if an observer was
- 38:12Speaker 6: looking on, it may feel scripted, but it's not. It's
- 38:15Speaker 6: just pure chemistry. And that's what I think that you
- 38:17Speaker 6: guys do so well. And radio, I mean, what a
- 38:20Speaker 6: format for that to all go down. And of course
- 38:22Speaker 6: you guys have been on screen and television and stuff
- 38:25Speaker 6: as well, and of course having that background. But to me,
- 38:29Speaker 6: when you throw in the fact that you guys are
- 38:31Speaker 6: a married couple of a long time, it's it's it's
- 38:35Speaker 6: it's awesome to watch it really is. It's just a
- 38:38Speaker 6: cool story.
- 38:40Speaker 33: So if you look at how we communicate outside of
- 38:43Speaker 33: those parameters, the rules are not the same, right, So
- 38:49Speaker 33: then so then you then you can be yourself in
- 38:52Speaker 33: the center, right and then you go back to like
- 38:58Speaker 33: you know, like who you are, but with each other.
- 39:01Speaker 33: So everyone has different persons, and everyone's different when they're
- 39:05Speaker 33: by themselves. Everyone's different when they're with their friends, family,
- 39:07Speaker 33: and with your husband or if your girlfriend.
- 39:10Speaker 5: Or whatever, and so those personalities come out, and I'll
- 39:16Speaker 5: be honest with you. Most of the time, I don't
- 39:18Speaker 5: really talk much because there's not much to say, so
- 39:22Speaker 5: I don't feel that I have to fill the air
- 39:25Speaker 5: with a lot of rubbish if I have got nothing
- 39:27Speaker 5: to see. And Shaye Ye can sit in the same
- 39:30Speaker 5: room for two or three hours and not communicate. But
- 39:34Speaker 5: we're communicating at the same time, you know what I mean.
- 39:37Speaker 5: And if we want to fill up the space with
- 39:39Speaker 5: a lot of nonsense, we do.
- 39:40Speaker 33: We just have debates, and we most of the time
- 39:43Speaker 33: disagree with each other because my knowledge base is different
- 39:47Speaker 33: from hers, and most of the time I have to
- 39:52Speaker 33: step back and say, look, you're coming from fact. I'm
- 39:54Speaker 33: coming from what I can hear.
- 39:56Speaker 5: And seeing on the street.
- 39:57Speaker 33: So I'm more of a person snowball kind of person.
- 40:01Speaker 33: And Shay's very factual, and when she makes an opinion,
- 40:04Speaker 33: it's really hard to change her mind, whereas my brain
- 40:07Speaker 33: is more flexible to go to any part of the argument.
- 40:10Speaker 33: But then I'll stick to my argument as long as
- 40:12Speaker 33: I can, even though I know I've lost it, but
- 40:14Speaker 33: I'll stick to it. You know what, I mean, so
- 40:16Speaker 33: it's one of those where I'm going to switch as
- 40:18Speaker 33: far as I can go and see where we land.
- 40:21Speaker 33: But then at the end, if we take the subject,
- 40:23Speaker 33: we walk away from.
- 40:24Speaker 5: That subject and we talk right normal like. But if
- 40:27Speaker 5: you bring that subject up.
- 40:28Speaker 33: Again and we were arguing about it, we'll go back
- 40:30Speaker 33: to that same temperament where we left it.
- 40:33Speaker 6: I can sche right now with her arms crossed, having
- 40:37Speaker 6: some different opinions about this conversation.
- 40:39Speaker 33: I would say, you know, she knows, she knows that
- 40:44Speaker 33: she's someone who's she knows that she's someone who really
- 40:49Speaker 33: enjoys debate, and she needs to be proven wrong or
- 40:54Speaker 33: she needs to be answered the way she's forming the question.
- 40:58Speaker 33: And if you're trying to divert the kind of question
- 41:01Speaker 33: somewhere else, she gets a bit of frustrated that, oh,
- 41:03Speaker 33: you're going the long way around. I asked you straight up,
- 41:08Speaker 33: did you vote yes or no? That's the answer, and
- 41:10Speaker 33: you're coming with, well, there wasn't a candidate that I
- 41:14Speaker 33: think my vote yes or no?
- 41:16Speaker 5: You know what I mean. It's a simple yes or no.
- 41:18Speaker 33: And if you're trying to go around the housing with shape,
- 41:21Speaker 33: she will she wouldn't educate.
- 41:24Speaker 5: She will not entertain with you.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 41:27Speaker 33: No, no, no, she just wants to I've got time.
- 41:31Speaker 33: People waste my time and my listeners. Where it's me,
- 41:33Speaker 33: I'm like, oh really, so we're going to do We're
- 41:36Speaker 33: going to do this, And then that for me is
- 41:38Speaker 33: challenge and I enjoy that.
- 41:40Speaker 5: How can I put it? Verbal? Verbal wrestling I called it.
- 41:44Speaker 5: And we'll see who can outmaster someone.
- 41:47Speaker 33: And I'll get that information in some way, shape or form,
- 41:50Speaker 33: by accident or by winning you over. And that's why
- 41:53Speaker 33: when we do guests who come on our show, we
- 41:56Speaker 33: might have questions for this individual, but then I will
- 41:59Speaker 33: take it. I will take it completely different to where
- 42:02Speaker 33: they want to go. And most of them press junkids.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Most of the times that we.
- 42:06Speaker 33: Speak to our you know, our you know the parts
- 42:10Speaker 33: who we need to interview, we literally don't even talk
- 42:14Speaker 33: about the subject that they came in to talk about.
- 42:17Speaker 33: But they will talk about a certain element of themselves
- 42:21Speaker 33: which is more personable to that actual product that they're
- 42:26Speaker 33: there to promote or sell.
- 42:27Speaker 5: Be a film, be a I don't know, a song,
- 42:32Speaker 5: or whatever it is.
- 42:34Speaker 33: I try to introduce something that just so that will
- 42:37Speaker 33: throw them off, so that they can just be themselves
- 42:40Speaker 33: without referring to the rehearse script that.
- 42:44Speaker 5: They've been given. And they've been regurgerating all day long.
- 42:47Speaker 33: So it's no point me being someone like, for example,
- 42:49Speaker 33: let me give you in a group of someone who
- 42:51Speaker 33: we interviewed.
- 42:52Speaker 5: Cente Jolie, for example, when we interviewed her for Salt.
- 42:55Speaker 5: I don't know if you remember that film where she
- 42:57Speaker 5: was a secret. Right, So we're on the red carpet.
- 43:00Speaker 33: Everyone's asking her about how she was like the James
- 43:03Speaker 33: Bond blah blah blah blah blah.
- 43:04Speaker 5: And I thought everyone's asking her the same bullshit question.
- 43:07Speaker 5: Why are we going to be any different?
- 43:09Speaker 33: So when she came in front of us, I told
- 43:11Speaker 33: shehay to get in front of me because there was
- 43:13Speaker 33: more men on the red carpet than women.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Number one and number two, I said to all you
- 43:17Speaker 5: need to ask her is ask her.
- 43:20Speaker 33: About now that, the now that because it was happening
- 43:24Speaker 33: in Pakistan, there was a there was a a natural.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Disaster in Pakistan.
- 43:28Speaker 33: And she was very vocal about we need to keep
- 43:32Speaker 33: talking about this otherwise people are going to forget it.
- 43:35Speaker 33: And so what she what she did say as she
- 43:39Speaker 33: was walking past, she said actually, you know, it's just
- 43:41Speaker 33: a great for your film, But do you think that
- 43:44Speaker 33: we should still concentrate on what's happening in Pakistan even
- 43:46Speaker 33: though you know there's help, you know they are providing help,
- 43:50Speaker 33: that we should still keep reporting on this.
- 43:53Speaker 5: And she walked past us, and she walked right back.
- 43:56Speaker 33: In front of Shay and she started speaking for ten
- 43:59Speaker 33: minutes about how important humanity is, how important that part
- 44:04Speaker 33: of the world is, and how we.
- 44:05Speaker 5: Should be at the human rate and would you believe
- 44:08Speaker 5: after we asked that question instead of just walking down
- 44:11Speaker 5: the red carpet and.
- 44:12Speaker 33: Just saying yeah, thank you, I'm the new James On
- 44:15Speaker 33: about everyone else fight asking the same kind of question.
- 44:19Speaker 5: And my lady was on the red carpet for an
- 44:21Speaker 5: extra twenty minutes and.
- 44:22Speaker 33: They had to delay it because of just thinking out
- 44:24Speaker 33: of the box of what can engage this person and
- 44:27Speaker 33: we can get sort of scoop.
- 44:29Speaker 5: And that was our first or of big interview that
- 44:31Speaker 5: we got onto the radio. Wow, and we paid it
- 44:34Speaker 5: first before anyone else, and that was on the praimer
- 44:37Speaker 5: of that So.
- 44:40Speaker 6: Yeah, man, yet that you navigated through sunny and I
- 44:44Speaker 6: think that it speaks to your experience and you know,
- 44:48Speaker 6: obviously from the perspective of you being able to see
- 44:51Speaker 6: the moment saying, you know, it's chase, you be the
- 44:53Speaker 6: person here and and then pose that right question. And
- 44:57Speaker 6: then you spoke to you knew who you were talking
- 45:00Speaker 6: to again speaking to your experience, and you know, and
- 45:03Speaker 6: you knew that Angelina was like that you spoke to
- 45:06Speaker 6: her soul in that way, because that's ultimately what she's about,
- 45:09Speaker 6: by what we see, at least from that perspective. And
- 45:12Speaker 6: so I think that you know, that humanitarian side of
- 45:15Speaker 6: her just could not be ignored with that kind of
- 45:17Speaker 6: gravity of a question. And I think that for you
- 45:20Speaker 6: guys to know that.
- 45:22Speaker 33: But yeah, she took that platform, and she took her time,
- 45:25Speaker 33: and then all of a sudden, all these people like,
- 45:28Speaker 33: don't get we're a little radio station if you look here,
- 45:30Speaker 33: and then all these other big stations and Radio one
- 45:33Speaker 33: one Extra and also ITV.
- 45:36Speaker 5: These are challenges. These are a channel here in the
- 45:40Speaker 5: UK which are quite big, and even though we're part
- 45:42Speaker 5: of the BBC, we were part of a smaller part
- 45:44Speaker 5: of that institution. Right we were surrounded with all their
- 45:48Speaker 5: might coming over the top of our heads because she
- 45:51Speaker 5: was standing right in front of Shade right so that
- 45:53Speaker 5: you could answer her question.
- 45:54Speaker 33: And I was right behind Shade giving her that face
- 45:57Speaker 33: so that if anyone took any pictures, it was just
- 46:00Speaker 33: had my arms around her. And she was right up
- 46:02Speaker 33: against the railings and talking to Angelina with her recording equipment,
- 46:07Speaker 33: and I was giving her that space so she didn't
- 46:09Speaker 33: feel like everyone's pushing on her, and you know, and
- 46:12Speaker 33: I was sort of like her barrier around it.
- 46:14Speaker 5: So you had to just, you know, like you adapt
- 46:16Speaker 5: to where you are put. And just like when we
- 46:18Speaker 5: were in.
- 46:18Speaker 33: America with yourself and you got those amazing guests that
- 46:21Speaker 33: we spoke to. Every time they came in, they knew
- 46:24Speaker 33: what they were talking about. But then we started off
- 46:27Speaker 33: with something completely different, and we slowly came back to
- 46:31Speaker 33: the conversation. And then when we asked them the questions,
- 46:33Speaker 33: it was more conversational as opposed to.
- 46:36Speaker 5: Oh, how long you been doing this?
- 46:37Speaker 33: How did it feel when you were my wife and kids?
- 46:39Speaker 33: Forget all of that nonsense, do you know what I mean?
- 46:41Speaker 33: It's like, let's start with from another place.
- 46:44Speaker 5: All together and talk about how I'm such a big
- 46:48Speaker 5: from like your work in the past and you're doing
- 46:52Speaker 5: the running Man it has Fai for example, you know
- 46:55Speaker 5: what I mean. So all of that and I'm bringing both.
- 46:58Speaker 5: I'm bringing the element of why you connect with me,
- 47:00Speaker 5: why I feel connected to you, and then we can
- 47:03Speaker 5: start from our conversation from there, and if they're entertaining you,
- 47:07Speaker 5: they will they will take you on that journey. And
- 47:09Speaker 5: it was from the conversation where you just engage with
- 47:13Speaker 5: a person on a level where they've touched it.
- 47:16Speaker 33: If you're lucky enough they've had some kind of impact
- 47:19Speaker 33: in your brain and they live in that space, then
- 47:21Speaker 33: you can share that with them.
- 47:22Speaker 6: Yeah, you got almost pierced through that like veil of
- 47:24Speaker 6: the character that they're trying to portray in the moment
- 47:27Speaker 6: with that kind of press junket mentality that they're walking
- 47:30Speaker 6: into there, they're pretty much have memorized the script of
- 47:34Speaker 6: answers or things that they're going to say about what
- 47:36Speaker 6: they did and oh, I was happy to be here,
- 47:38Speaker 6: and you know all that kind of stuff that you
- 47:40Speaker 6: were like, this is boring.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I got to get past this. Yeah, and you guys
- 47:45Speaker 1: know that.
- 47:45Speaker 6: And I think that's something that you know obviously on
- 47:48Speaker 6: your show Off the Stream, which is taking place this
- 47:51Speaker 6: Monday afternoon, right here on the signal, you're going.
- 47:55Speaker 5: To see that.
- 47:56Speaker 6: And I think that the two of you guys are
- 47:59Speaker 6: masters of this and for us on this network to
- 48:02Speaker 6: have you guys is quite the boon and for us,
- 48:05Speaker 6: we're looking forward to.
- 48:06Speaker 1: It and I'm excited about Monday afternoon five.
- 48:10Speaker 33: I'm so excited ourselves. It's so Shay and I want
- 48:14Speaker 33: to share something else because is on board. She wants
- 48:16Speaker 33: the opportunity to rename it. So at the moment, it's
- 48:19Speaker 33: called off the stream because we talk about the mainstream,
- 48:23Speaker 33: but on.
- 48:24Speaker 5: The side of the stream.
- 48:25Speaker 33: Does that make sense because we don't believe there is
- 48:27Speaker 33: a there's just a stream. So she wants to think
- 48:31Speaker 33: it's too much. You've got to explain it too much.
- 48:33Speaker 33: So she wants to change the name of the show.
- 48:35Speaker 5: So we'll be introducing the new name to the show
- 48:39Speaker 5: on Monday once we have a the big review of
- 48:45Speaker 5: the new name of the new show. Because I remember
- 48:47Speaker 5: when we first joined you guys, it was called.
- 48:49Speaker 33: Funny Shay Go to Hollywood on Frankie Goes to Hollywood,
- 48:52Speaker 33: that amazing you know that song, and then we took
- 48:56Speaker 33: that inspiration coins sunny Shay Go to Hollywood and that
- 48:59Speaker 33: was it made sense, and now she wants to think
- 49:03Speaker 33: that she wants to brainstorm an idea for a new name.
- 49:05Speaker 5: So finger Cross we'll come out with something. We'll do
