- 0:03Speaker 1: Wednesday at We're excited for it. Happy New Year to celebrate.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I'm gonna so get up, crats. I've got two days.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Left, the only one, if you got with you.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Right, that's true, only one.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I might say it on Friday and just yell it
- 0:21Speaker 1: out there and hope that like your ear, Like, what
- 0:24Speaker 1: are you talking about?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Right?
- 0:25Speaker 2: So I have two days you said Fridays tomorrow.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Oh so right, maybe I'll skip it and then Friday,
- 0:32Speaker 1: I'm going to shout it amongst everyone that can hear.
- 0:36Speaker 3: So why don't you just wait till like June New Year?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Well, no, I'm playing by your rules. You told me,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I know.
- 0:42Speaker 3: But like, if you don't want to play by the rules,
- 0:43Speaker 3: and you can say it in June, we have this
- 0:45Speaker 3: argument the year and I'm tired of you not listening
- 0:47Speaker 3: to the rules. Scott.
- 0:48Speaker 1: You always say that I follow the rules better than everyone,
- 0:50Speaker 1: so I'm trying.
- 0:51Speaker 3: To follow you follow producer ladies.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't follow most rules. That's why I'm here. Anyway.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We do have some what breaking news at the top
- 1:01Speaker 1: of the show, so I do want to jump to
- 1:02Speaker 1: that pretty quickly. It's going to make some of our
- 1:05Speaker 1: cubs fans that consume the show.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Every day, feel a little bit better. So let's get
- 1:10Speaker 2: to that.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Let's rut.
- 1:15Speaker 1: We've got multiple insiders reporting on how the Cubs are
- 1:19Speaker 1: close to acquiring Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins. Michael Sarami,
- 1:23Speaker 1: who covers the Cubs, was first on the scene. Ken
- 1:26Speaker 1: says source confirming that it is close. Edward Cabrera is
- 1:31Speaker 1: one of the better starters stuff wise, available on the
- 1:35Speaker 1: trade market. We had seen the report the other day
- 1:37Speaker 1: that the Yankees were hot on the Marlins to try
- 1:41Speaker 1: and get Cabrera. But it looks like the Cubs are
- 1:44Speaker 1: going to end up on top. They've got plenty of
- 1:46Speaker 1: prospect capital, too, time to use it.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah, if you think this puts you over the top,
- 1:52Speaker 3: I still think they need bat somewhere.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Sure, but they needed another they did.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Their starting rotation is pretty solid right now. No, I
- 1:59Speaker 3: just justin Steele comes back, when he comes back, when
- 2:04Speaker 3: he comes back, Matthew Boyd, Yeah, it's good. And uh Horton,
- 2:09Speaker 3: Kate Horton, that's five pretty good ones.
- 2:11Speaker 2: They needed this though.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Okay, who's five does he take?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Well? Steele's not starting right now. I mean he's not back.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Until what halfway through the year. If not more right now,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think it's pretty easy. It's Boyd Orton, Immenaga, Edward Cabrera, Jameison,
- 2:31Speaker 1: ty On, Colin Race, Wingman.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Okay, or they're going to a six man rotation like
- 2:38Speaker 3: everybody else that has a Japanese starter, and maybe they
- 2:41Speaker 3: feel like that's part of Imanaga's You know, hey, if
- 2:44Speaker 3: we can, if we can move him to a six
- 2:46Speaker 3: man rotation, maybe we can eliminate some of those home runs.
- 2:49Speaker 3: But I don't care where he slots in a rotation.
- 2:52Speaker 3: He slots in one of those playoffs starts. I get it.
- 2:56Speaker 3: If Justin Steele is Justin Steele come playoffs, yeah, I mean,
- 3:00Speaker 3: and he's he's going to pitch over Edward Cabrera. But
- 3:04Speaker 3: right now, last offseason, last postseason, he's starting one of
- 3:08Speaker 3: those playoff games, which I'm pretty sure they had an
- 3:11Speaker 3: opener for one of the playoff games, but multiple, yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 3: multiple they had to use on short rest in the
- 3:19Speaker 3: in the DF.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Dude, they had to use Boyd on short rest. And
- 3:22Speaker 1: then I'll pull up in the next few seconds who their.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Starters were for the Well, they were scared to use Showda.
- 3:28Speaker 3: They didn't want to use showdo They didn't want to
- 3:29Speaker 3: use Colin Ray although he pitched really well for him.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I mean, they were like, we don't want to It's
- 3:34Speaker 3: like they don't want to pitch those guys. But my
- 3:36Speaker 3: question is for with Edward Cabrera, how many times he's
- 3:39Speaker 3: pitched over one hundred innings in his career?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Once?
- 3:43Speaker 3: Once? That was last year. One time he's thrown over
- 3:46Speaker 3: one hundred innings in his career.
- 3:47Speaker 2: The Dodgers would love him one hundred.
- 3:49Speaker 3: He threw one hundred and thirty seven innings last year.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Before that, his career high was ninety nine. So he's
- 3:55Speaker 3: strown over one hundred innings one time.
- 3:57Speaker 2: He's a kid.
- 3:58Speaker 3: He's a kid. He's twenty eight years old. He ain't
- 4:02Speaker 3: a kid.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I'm not defending this.
- 4:03Speaker 3: This is why I mean for the Cubs, listen, this
- 4:06Speaker 3: move makes sense because they need this move and they can.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I mean, we'll find out who the pieces are they're
- 4:10Speaker 3: giving up. But to me, he's not a he's not
- 4:15Speaker 3: an ace to me, right, So he's not a front
- 4:17Speaker 3: of the rotation.
- 4:18Speaker 2: He's count of layoff starter.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Okay, they got to get there and if their offense
- 4:23Speaker 3: right now, unless things without Tucker and Pa doesn't become
- 4:28Speaker 3: the PCA of the first half and he's the PCA
- 4:30Speaker 3: of the second half that next year. I mean, they
- 4:33Speaker 3: got some holes in that. Are we count on Carson
- 4:35Speaker 3: Kelly to have the career year he had last year?
- 4:40Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean I just think, look, I
- 4:42Speaker 3: like this trade for the Cubs, but I think somewhere
- 4:43Speaker 3: along the line they need some offense.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I think this was the top need. I agree.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I mean, it sounds like they're in the running for Obashett,
- 4:54Speaker 1: Alex Bragman, maybe someone else.
- 4:58Speaker 3: That I love. How that's been the cubs number one need.
- 5:00Speaker 3: How are they confused? I'll tell you how. I'm confused
- 5:05Speaker 3: because they have.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Doing this for Mike Mike.
- 5:09Speaker 3: G because you're celebrated. It's a good pickup. It is
- 5:14Speaker 3: a good pickup.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Do you know who started?
- 5:18Speaker 3: They needed another starting pitcher, especially if you're only starting
- 5:22Speaker 3: pitchers that make your starts are Matthew Boyd Who's you know?
- 5:26Speaker 3: Maybe maybe he's had a history of not making all
- 5:29Speaker 3: his starts in his career. In and August spent some
- 5:32Speaker 3: time on I l this was a this was a
- 5:34Speaker 3: definite need. Even though the other day I said they
- 5:37Speaker 3: also need somebody to replace Tucker, which is tough to replace,
- 5:42Speaker 3: and I think so they I agree with AJ that
- 5:45Speaker 3: they need a piece in the position player realm. I'm
- 5:48Speaker 3: not sure exactly where, but they need a bat. They
- 5:52Speaker 3: need a bat As an offense that was good last
- 5:54Speaker 3: year with Kyle Tucker, they were really good at some points.
- 5:58Speaker 3: But I think this pick, this this edition is great
- 6:01Speaker 3: because I don't think they need him to throw thirty
- 6:03Speaker 3: two innings, because he hasn't so far in his career.
- 6:07Speaker 3: I mean thirty two thirty two starts, not thirty two innings.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Do you know who started Game five, the last game
- 6:13Speaker 1: of the season for the Cubs in the NLDS.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Well, it wasn't Sure. Well what killed him was Horton
- 6:19Speaker 3: getting hurt at the end. Sure Kate Horton. If they
- 6:21Speaker 3: would have had him, it completely changes everything.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Uh, he's joining us on today.
- 6:26Speaker 3: It wasn't SHOWEDO because it was scheduled to be showed
- 6:28Speaker 3: and they didn't start.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Drew Pomerantz was the starter for a.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Game like it was supposed to be SHOWO, but they
- 6:33Speaker 3: didn't start them.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Your season on the line, and he's coming on. It has
- 6:38Speaker 1: nothing to do with Drew we love you, Drew. He's
- 6:40Speaker 1: coming on excited for you. We're going to talk to
- 6:41Speaker 1: you later. It's just that it's cool to have a
- 6:44Speaker 1: big time starter who can give you length going the game.
- 6:48Speaker 2: That decides your season. And that's why.
- 6:51Speaker 3: But this is what teams have done forever now and
- 6:53Speaker 3: I know, but they don't care, like, oh, we'll match up, well,
- 6:56Speaker 3: we'll use an opener because it matches up in the
- 6:59Speaker 3: first inning better, and just letting our starter go out
- 7:01Speaker 3: there because the starter's gonna be on three innings because
- 7:02Speaker 3: every manager now goes I can't got my starter goes
- 7:05Speaker 3: through the lineup twice because God forbidd he's pitching.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Well, had that go in the World Series, we had
- 7:10Speaker 1: teams that could throw starters up there, you know, a
- 7:14Speaker 1: great world That's why they met up and that's why
- 7:16Speaker 1: it was a great World Series. So the point here
- 7:18Speaker 1: is next time the Cubs get to a do or
- 7:20Speaker 1: die playoff game, they will have options and not have
- 7:24Speaker 1: to go bullpen game. They can use their Drew palmerant
- 7:27Speaker 1: later in the game and leverage versus having to use
- 7:30Speaker 1: him to start the game. So I think that's the
- 7:32Speaker 1: big point here. Cad hort In sophomore season coming off injury,
- 7:36Speaker 1: Edward Cabrera has not been durable, but stuff wise, he
- 7:39Speaker 1: will start a playoff game for you if he looks
- 7:41Speaker 1: like he.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Did in twenty twenty five.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Justin Steele hopefully comes back and feels good, we'll see.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I mean the trust factor for Amanaga. He's certainly being
- 7:50Speaker 1: paid this coming season like he should start playoff games
- 7:53Speaker 1: for the Cubs. But are you getting the twenty four edition?
- 7:55Speaker 1: Are you getting the twenty five edition? This makes things
- 7:58Speaker 1: much more interesting for them rotation and it makes them
- 8:01Speaker 1: much more competitive in the division. Right, do you feel
- 8:03Speaker 1: as if the Cubs have more of a shot to
- 8:08Speaker 1: take down the Brewers in the division.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yes, okay, And it wasn't all it wasn't all durability
- 8:17Speaker 3: with Edward Cabrera. Some of it was. You remember, it
- 8:22Speaker 3: wasn't last year. I think it was a year before
- 8:24Speaker 3: where they started to manipulate a little bit of time
- 8:28Speaker 3: in the big leagues with some of their pitchers like
- 8:32Speaker 3: Uri Perez. They they were like, well, we don't want
- 8:34Speaker 3: to get too many innings. But then they sent him
- 8:35Speaker 3: down a Triple A and he was pitching in Triple A.
- 8:40Speaker 3: They were doing that with Cabrera Meyer Uri Perez. So
- 8:43Speaker 3: some of it wasn't just durability. Some of it was
- 8:46Speaker 3: he had a five R. He was right at a
- 8:48Speaker 3: five VR. So this is a guy. Yes, he's twenty
- 8:51Speaker 3: eight years old, twenty seven years old last year, he's
- 8:55Speaker 3: still making adjustments in the big leagues. I think I
- 8:59Speaker 3: think that's maybe the cub We don't know who they're
- 9:02Speaker 3: giving back, but I think the Cubs are hoping this
- 9:07Speaker 3: past year was what he is and not what he
- 9:10Speaker 3: was the previous years. Well. I think it's also a
- 9:13Speaker 3: case of that Marlin's trying to sell high.
- 9:16Speaker 2: That's very true.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I mean the Marlins were trying to sell high after
- 9:19Speaker 3: his best year by far. They're like, hey, we can
- 9:21Speaker 3: get some stuff, and we all know Peter Bendix and
- 9:23Speaker 3: keeping nobody and they want to no payroll. So he's like, hey,
- 9:27Speaker 3: we can get some prospects that might turn into something.
- 9:30Speaker 3: We'll do this and save some money along the way.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Sometimes guys make adjustments and they stick. Sometimes guys make
- 9:36Speaker 1: adjustments in the league adjusts back. I mean, Edward Cabrera
- 9:39Speaker 1: has been a touted prospect and young player, and this
- 9:42Speaker 1: was when it really came together for him and yes,
- 9:45Speaker 1: a career high one hundred and thirty seven and two
- 9:46Speaker 1: thirds innings. But the command was much better this year
- 9:49Speaker 1: and he did make a lot of changes like I'm
- 9:50Speaker 1: going through the changes, dropped his armslot, Di's just slider
- 9:53Speaker 1: for his curve ball. I mentioned how the command got better,
- 9:57Speaker 1: the power change got better for him to best of
- 9:59Speaker 1: be in his career on it. The downside is twice
- 10:05Speaker 1: on the aisle this year. He had a blister and
- 10:06Speaker 1: then a sprained right elbow, and from twenty twenty one
- 10:09Speaker 1: to twenty twenty four he spent he had seven trips
- 10:12Speaker 1: on the injured list, three times with his shoulder in pinchment.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So it's not the perfect player. But if you see
- 10:21Speaker 1: the top here on the stat cast page in terms
- 10:25Speaker 1: of results, he was getting results this year obviously. Yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 1: he ranks pretty well in v low, chase percentage, fifth percentage,
- 10:33Speaker 1: strikeout percentage, even walk percentage which was big for him.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So not the perfect player, but postseason starter.
- 10:43Speaker 2: So this is big for the Cubs and it doesn't
- 10:45Speaker 2: cost much.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So if the Cubs are trying to actually do some
- 10:47Speaker 1: damage and take those alligator arms and try and get
- 10:52Speaker 1: some money out, like they're still Okay, because Eduard Cabrera
- 10:55Speaker 1: is projected to make three point seven milli in arbitration
- 11:00Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six. It's gonna cost three four million
- 11:02Speaker 1: bucks this year. He's got three years a number three starter.
- 11:06Speaker 3: He's got three years of control left, and.
- 11:07Speaker 2: He's got three years of control. That's why he was
- 11:09Speaker 2: highly coveted.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah by teams like the Cubs, the Yankees, and many others.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Yeahs again, good job by the Marlins. We don't know
- 11:17Speaker 3: what they've got back, but this was a cell high and.
- 11:20Speaker 1: The Marlins feel like they have enough starting pitching depth.
- 11:22Speaker 1: If you're a Marlins fan, you're obviously like, when does
- 11:25Speaker 1: it end?
- 11:26Speaker 3: Never?
- 11:27Speaker 2: This guy had years never, when does it end?
- 11:29Speaker 3: Never? Just look north? Just look north. This is when
- 11:34Speaker 3: this is that. I mean, I have a hard time
- 11:36Speaker 3: believing Peter Bendex isn't gonna run it exactly like the
- 11:38Speaker 3: Rays you get in that four years of service range,
- 11:42Speaker 3: which Cabrera is just a little bit under that. We're
- 11:46Speaker 3: gonna start fishing. We're gonna start throwing you out in
- 11:48Speaker 3: the water. See what kind of bait you know, See
- 11:50Speaker 3: what kind of fish we can snag with with what
- 11:52Speaker 3: you're doing. And this is a perfect example, kind of
- 11:55Speaker 3: kind of sped up as his window to be traded,
- 11:59Speaker 3: especially since al Contra didn't get didn't have a season
- 12:03Speaker 3: and didn't get traded. He's like, all right, well it's
- 12:05Speaker 3: time to trade somebody we have you know, we have
- 12:08Speaker 3: value here. So it's just just look at the race.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Look north to the race. That's how they're gonna run it.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and for Sandy, he's likely going to head into
- 12:18Speaker 1: the season pitching for the Marlins and then get traded
- 12:20Speaker 1: at the deadline.
- 12:20Speaker 2: No, we said that this past year.
- 12:22Speaker 3: He has one more year.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I think I gotta look.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I thought of it too.
- 12:27Speaker 1: The problem with Sandy, I think he might have an
- 12:28Speaker 1: option on that second one. So he's making seventeen million.
- 12:31Speaker 1: He just made seventeen million twenty five, seventeen million twenty six,
- 12:36Speaker 1: a twenty one million dollar club option for twenty twenty seven.
- 12:39Speaker 2: That's not a guarantee.
- 12:40Speaker 1: We need to see him pitch well for a full
- 12:42Speaker 1: year and it's likely, right, it's Sandy Alk, So two years.
- 12:46Speaker 3: He takes the ball. He just had Tommy Johns. So
- 12:48Speaker 3: they usually say four to five years after you have
- 12:50Speaker 3: your first one whatever, So that's two more years it'll
- 12:54Speaker 3: be his third year back. If he takes the ball
- 12:58Speaker 3: every time, he every fit.
- 13:00Speaker 2: But that's why they are You tell.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Me that Sandy al Contra two years from now, I mean,
- 13:04Speaker 3: depending on when I was with the CBA, it won't
- 13:06Speaker 3: be worth twenty one million taking making No he should,
- 13:09Speaker 3: so I can't imagine that not being picked up.
- 13:11Speaker 2: So it's two years close to forty mil.
- 13:14Speaker 3: That's nothing though, for a quality, quality starting pitcher.
- 13:17Speaker 1: But he's not going to get traded to the deadline
- 13:18Speaker 1: because his value is being has to.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Be built back up because he was great then he
- 13:24Speaker 3: got hurt. He wasn't great early, but at the second
- 13:26Speaker 3: half he was pretty good. Last year he kind of
- 13:28Speaker 3: was back to the old standing. So the key is
- 13:31Speaker 3: just if he gets off to a good start, the
- 13:33Speaker 3: Marlins would be like Peter Bendix to be cingling man,
- 13:38Speaker 3: I can't wait to trade this guy.
- 13:40Speaker 2: It's gonna be great.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna get so many press, so many press plus
- 13:43Speaker 1: value what they got bled. Myrlands are about to get
- 13:48Speaker 1: a revamp to their lineup, maybe depending on who's in there,
- 13:52Speaker 1: probably young position players. Some of the MLB teams have
- 13:54Speaker 1: turned into nothing more than an extended farm system for
- 13:57Speaker 1: the winning teams. Well, some what accurate, That's kind of
- 14:00Speaker 1: always been the case, though somewhat accurate. Well, that's what
- 14:04Speaker 1: pisses people off though, They're like, why is that always
- 14:06Speaker 1: the case?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Well, because teams almost want to spend money.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, if they lose Casey and Balisterais needs more time,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I hope the Cubs find a bat with the money.
- 14:16Speaker 2: They say it from Edward.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, well, ballisterios. Here's the thing about ballis sterios. You
- 14:21Speaker 3: supposed to hit. He's not going to catch, because they've
- 14:23Speaker 3: already said he's just basically a DH at like twenty two,
- 14:26Speaker 3: for sure, he.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Can't pretty much. They've not even as a backup catch.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, he's a backup catcher like Wilson Contrero's.
- 14:32Speaker 3: I mean they didn't want him to catch, clearly last year.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Dude can hit. He can hit, but full time DH
- 14:40Speaker 2: at twenty two is tough.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Ask.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I think that they're going to try and develop him
- 14:45Speaker 2: more as a catcher.
- 14:48Speaker 3: No, here's here's the issue. If your bat is ahead
- 14:53Speaker 3: of you as a backup catcher at twenty two years old,
- 14:57Speaker 3: they want you to hit. They're going to get two
- 14:59Speaker 3: to three years of value out of your back before
- 15:01Speaker 3: you take enough. If if the defense is suspect behind
- 15:07Speaker 3: a dish, you have to improve that somehow. You ain't
- 15:09Speaker 3: improving that riding the pine. Believe me, there's that's why
- 15:13Speaker 3: older guys, failed starters become backups. It's not it's not
- 15:17Speaker 3: a case where they have it's not a case where
- 15:19Speaker 3: they have that stud starter and then they're like, oh,
- 15:23Speaker 3: you're gonna get you know, you're just gonna You're just
- 15:26Speaker 3: gonna fill in here now, like by Steros to me,
- 15:29Speaker 3: by a steros. If if the Marlins won them appreciate you.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Good player needs to be in the big leages because
- 15:36Speaker 3: he can hit, because he doesn't need to be in
- 15:38Speaker 3: triple at hitting, but catching isn't there yet. It's just
- 15:42Speaker 3: not there yet. He's got to be around differently. And
- 15:46Speaker 3: this is the ai AI overview. Okay, boys to spell
- 15:51Speaker 3: Ballasteros is considered a very good prospect, primarily for his
- 15:54Speaker 3: advanced hitting ability, but his long term defensive role as
- 15:58Speaker 3: a catcher is a major question mark, potentially shifting him
- 16:01Speaker 3: to first base or designated hit or due to well
- 16:03Speaker 3: below average speed and defense. He's a top Cubs prospect
- 16:09Speaker 3: with a strong bat, excellent plate discipline and power, but
- 16:13Speaker 3: conditioning and defense are key concerns.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Okay, cool, thank you ai improved.
- 16:19Speaker 3: You can improve, you can't.
- 16:23Speaker 2: But he might not be I mean a I don't
- 16:27Speaker 2: know if he's.
- 16:27Speaker 3: They also have Maya yeah, and they have Carson Kelly, right,
- 16:32Speaker 3: so they already have two guys that they're going to
- 16:35Speaker 3: use to catch.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and nobody that I know of coming through the
- 16:38Speaker 1: pipe besides ballisteris right.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Now, no Ballistaias is going to be their DH most
- 16:42Speaker 3: of the time or play first. He's not catching him.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I mean he might catch a game here and there.
- 16:46Speaker 3: And to me, I think I think they get tons
- 16:49Speaker 3: of value of with Saya at the DH roll and
- 16:52Speaker 3: somebody upgrading his defense. That's to me. Suzuki's kept making
- 16:59Speaker 3: kept making strides since he's been in the big leagues
- 17:02Speaker 3: coming over from Japan. Second half he cratered. I get it,
- 17:06Speaker 3: But I thought he should have been an All Star
- 17:08Speaker 3: last year. And I think I think their lineup needs
- 17:10Speaker 3: an upgrade, and I think it's easiest to upgrade at
- 17:14Speaker 3: say his position and Moveseya to DH Okay.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I'm going to make a prediction on who's involved. Most
- 17:21Speaker 1: people are going to see this and by the time
- 17:23Speaker 1: they watch this, maybe we'll know who's involved. But Kevin
- 17:27Speaker 1: al Contra, Jackson Wiggins, two of their top ten prospects,
- 17:30Speaker 1: at least one of them, I think will be in here.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Just throwing that out there.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Okay, I think it's I think it's interesting because we
- 17:39Speaker 3: heard the Yankees tied to Cabrera, and to me, if
- 17:42Speaker 3: the Yankees had picked him up, they still would have
- 17:46Speaker 3: needed to do more. I think with the Cubs and
- 17:48Speaker 3: what AJ was saying, you know they got five guys.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I think with the Cubs, this is this is it,
- 17:53Speaker 3: and so I think it's one of those moves that's
- 17:55Speaker 3: like different. If the Yankees pick them up, they still
- 17:58Speaker 3: got to make another move because of they're big three
- 18:00Speaker 3: that are going to be out at the beginning of
- 18:02Speaker 3: the year. To me, the Cubs, hey, you know what,
- 18:06Speaker 3: we're done. I think they're done in their pitching department.
- 18:09Speaker 3: And you've got to be happy if you're a Cub
- 18:11Speaker 3: fan starting pitching locked in, You've got six guys that
- 18:16Speaker 3: can start games for you. You spend a lot of
- 18:18Speaker 3: money on your bullpen. Now just a little bit to
- 18:22Speaker 3: the lineup.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they did.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Mayton, Hunter, Harvey, Caleb thielbar Holby Milner. They remodeled the
- 18:30Speaker 1: bullpen pretty well. And yes, last piece of the puzzle
- 18:33Speaker 1: here is figuring out where they can upgrade the offense.
- 18:37Speaker 2: So we'll see TBD. Let's move on to other free
- 18:40Speaker 2: agents hit it? Where will Bo go?
- 18:59Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal Will Salmon posted an article this morning what
- 19:02Speaker 1: We're Hearing around MLB that included the Cubs in the
- 19:06Speaker 1: mix for Alex Bregman and Bobashett.
- 19:09Speaker 2: They also spoke about.
- 19:10Speaker 1: How one of those players can move Matt Shaw to
- 19:15Speaker 1: a utility role, or Matt Shaw can move to second base,
- 19:20Speaker 1: and they trade Nico Horner, who is scheduled to make
- 19:23Speaker 1: twelve million dollars this year, and then be a free agent.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Where will bo go? Oh? This is a key point
- 19:31Speaker 2: in Toronto.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Is a key point in Toronto.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Ken said this, yes, and he wrote it again in
- 19:36Speaker 1: this article. It seems like the attention for the Blue
- 19:39Speaker 1: Jays has shifted to Kyle Tucker and away from Bobashett.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Do Toronto? So does he fit the Cubs? He doesn't
- 19:47Speaker 3: fit the Cubs for me, Bo, No, Because you have Danzby,
- 19:51Speaker 3: have Matt Shaw, you have Bush. At first, you have
- 19:53Speaker 3: Nico Horner.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Well, there's two places he can fit.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Number One, he can fit at second if they trade Nico, although,
- 20:00Speaker 1: why are you trading equals?
- 20:01Speaker 3: So I'm saying he was one of their best players
- 20:02Speaker 3: last year at the end.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Number Two, he can fit at third base. And then
- 20:07Speaker 1: they have Shaw as a utility and they say, screw
- 20:10Speaker 1: your development.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I don't ratting the Pine kids.
- 20:13Speaker 3: We're doing that. He doesn't fit for me in Chicago?
- 20:15Speaker 2: Okay, So then where does he fit?
- 20:17Speaker 3: I don't know. That's my biggest that's one of the biggest.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Second base Yeah, bragmant to the Diamondbacks, bow to the
- 20:23Speaker 1: Red Sox at second base?
- 20:25Speaker 3: Who plays third for the Red Sox Marcela Meyer? Yes, yeah, okay,
- 20:28Speaker 3: we why not do Bregman, who we know is a
- 20:30Speaker 3: known commodity there and Meyer at second.
- 20:32Speaker 1: They made an aggressive offer, and Jen McCaffrey, who writes
- 20:35Speaker 1: for The Athletic, also confirm this, like they feel like
- 20:37Speaker 1: they've got a really nice offer on the table for
- 20:39Speaker 1: Alex Bregman, and they're like, do you like us?
- 20:43Speaker 2: Do you want to dance? What's happening?
- 20:45Speaker 3: I don't know. That's the question. Does both fit and
- 20:47Speaker 3: maybe in Detroit definitely fits.
- 20:50Speaker 2: But is Detroit spending like that?
- 20:52Speaker 3: I don't know. That's this is one of the This
- 20:53Speaker 3: is one of the major questions for me, is as
- 20:56Speaker 3: we keep getting this is always what happens with these friends,
- 20:58Speaker 3: you always are like, oh, right, where does he fit?
- 20:59Speaker 3: Where's the fit? Where's it now? Breakman? Last year there
- 21:01Speaker 3: was obvious places, Chicago, Detroit, Boston. He picked Boston, right,
- 21:07Speaker 3: But when I look at Bo, can you start breaking
- 21:09Speaker 3: if he's not going to be a shortstop? Okay, here
- 21:11Speaker 3: here's the one. The big problem with Bo and Bo
- 21:14Speaker 3: is an unbelievable hitter. He's been a great player, but
- 21:17Speaker 3: his shortstop value has not very good because people don't
- 21:21Speaker 3: value his defense. True or false.
- 21:25Speaker 1: We talked about this, I think on the show that
- 21:27Speaker 1: you weren't on, sure true or false? He has looked
- 21:29Speaker 1: at as a second baseman by most of baseball.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Right, Okay, you know who doesn't get paid a ton
- 21:34Speaker 3: of money? Second basement second base.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We actually did a math exercise on this that the
- 21:39Speaker 1: league is probably saying you're worth five plus mil less.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Per year by being a second base of being a
- 21:44Speaker 3: second baseman exactly. So he's but he's still going after
- 21:47Speaker 3: like he's going to be a shortstop. Teams pay shortstops.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Correa Swanson, right, guys that can play the shortstop position.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Well.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Would have been a really nice fit for him was Atlanta,
- 21:57Speaker 3: but they went out and got Kim right right, so
- 22:00Speaker 3: they covered themselves there. That would have been They.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Might not have looked at him as a shortstop, and
- 22:04Speaker 2: they need.
- 22:04Speaker 3: That's the thing. But his agency is saying, I'm a
- 22:08Speaker 3: short stop. I need to get paid like a short stop.
- 22:10Speaker 3: The teams are going, well, you're gonna play second for us.
- 22:13Speaker 3: We're going to pay you like a second basement. That's
- 22:16Speaker 3: where the Where does he fit and where will bo go?
- 22:21Speaker 3: Is interesting because what is he?
- 22:24Speaker 1: I mean, he's twenty seven, he'll be twenty eight by
- 22:26Speaker 1: spring training range. But he'll get a longer term deal
- 22:31Speaker 1: and maybe get a little less average annual value then I.
- 22:33Speaker 3: Mean, if you start running through the teams, okay, run
- 22:36Speaker 3: through a lot of the teams. Though the teams you
- 22:40Speaker 3: would think would pay for him, Yankees, well.
- 22:46Speaker 1: They clearly don't buy him as a shortstop anyway. And
- 22:49Speaker 1: their vulpy ryder die that's been their thing for a
- 22:52Speaker 1: long time.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Red Sox Trevor story is a shortstop.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Well and also just going back to the Yankees. Right
- 22:58Speaker 1: now they have Jazz Chishom. They could Jazz and then
- 23:01Speaker 1: sign Bow if they really like him. But again, are
- 23:05Speaker 1: you getting better? No, you're just covering yourself the future.
- 23:07Speaker 1: This is where is going to be a free agent.
- 23:09Speaker 3: This is where you need because we always hear about
- 23:11Speaker 3: the mystery teams like in Washington Nationals. This is where
- 23:15Speaker 3: you needed like Tom Learner to be like, oh, man,
- 23:18Speaker 3: I really love Boba. Shit, Paul Tavoni, go sign him.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Oh wait, No, we're not doing that anymore because we're
- 23:24Speaker 3: now a low market, small market team, right Orioles and
- 23:27Speaker 3: they have Jackson Holiday and out of the Ruschmon, they're
- 23:29Speaker 3: not signing him.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I don't think Bo's doing anything until Bregman makes his decision,
- 23:33Speaker 1: because after.
- 23:34Speaker 3: That then it opens up some clearer paths.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It could if Bregman doesn't go out Boris no, oh okay,
- 23:42Speaker 1: because I was like, man, do you think Boris is
- 23:43Speaker 1: in there going on? Did you hear what Boris said
- 23:45Speaker 1: at the press conference for Okamoto when they asked why
- 23:49Speaker 1: free agency has been so slow. He basically said it
- 23:51Speaker 1: was Ross Atkins' fault, and there actually is it wasn't
- 23:54Speaker 1: just a joke. I mean it was, but in my mind,
- 23:57Speaker 1: it's like, wait, the Blue Jays have been talking to
- 23:59Speaker 1: Kyle Tuck.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Everyone's waiting for that.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Once that slots in, bow's gone, right, and it starts
- 24:04Speaker 1: to lay things out a little bit more.
- 24:06Speaker 2: No.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Yeah, but if the team really wants Kyle Tucker or
- 24:10Speaker 3: Boba shit, they just gonna make him a big offer
- 24:11Speaker 3: and he's gone. I mean, okay, I mean that's we'll
- 24:15Speaker 3: look at like we use the player. The Mets. They
- 24:18Speaker 3: have a second basement, they have a short stop, they're out,
- 24:21Speaker 3: they just traded for Simmy, and they have Lindor. He's
- 24:23Speaker 3: not going there, right, Okay, So then you start looking
- 24:26Speaker 3: at the team. Phillies, No, Phillies maybe, but they're not
- 24:29Speaker 3: gonna spend that they need j T back.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Philly could make that move.
- 24:33Speaker 3: They could, but they're gonna have to clear some money.
- 24:35Speaker 3: They're gonna have trade boonm They're gonna have probably trade
- 24:37Speaker 3: Brison Stott, and then they got to find a third
- 24:39Speaker 3: base mh.
- 24:43Speaker 2: He doesn't he's got a good arm.
- 24:45Speaker 3: He doesn't profile arm. He doesn't profile, does he crafts?
- 24:49Speaker 3: He doesn't profile as a third baseman. I don't know.
- 24:53Speaker 3: That's tough to say. I have a hard time believing
- 24:55Speaker 3: you're gonna pay money that he wants and say sticky
- 24:59Speaker 3: out a corner. I don't. I don't think that's to me.
- 25:02Speaker 3: I don't. I don't think that's happening Stott's. Stotts solidified
- 25:06Speaker 3: himself as a really good second baseman, up and down offense,
- 25:10Speaker 3: mostly down recently, but now not bow to the Royals.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Here's here's my here's my sleeper team for you. The Angels.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Some reason, the Angels always come up with some money
- 25:22Speaker 3: and they're like, I take a player. He seems like
- 25:25Speaker 3: a cool player. I remember his dad played Angels. If
- 25:30Speaker 3: you want a sleeper team, he needs somebody. He needs
- 25:33Speaker 3: somebody with the Cubs. He needs somebody to say Cubs
- 25:40Speaker 3: could be interested Diamonds. I don't think the Cubs are
- 25:44Speaker 3: at all interested.
- 25:46Speaker 2: The Diamondbacks are that team for Bregman.
- 25:48Speaker 3: But they got a trade to tell Marty first, No,
- 25:50Speaker 3: they don't.
- 25:52Speaker 2: They could have both.
- 25:55Speaker 3: When are we gonna When are we gonna stop? I
- 25:58Speaker 3: then bobas she can go to the Diamondbacks. Correct, if
- 26:01Speaker 3: we can play this all day? What did Mike Tomlins
- 26:03Speaker 3: say you know, I don't know, so line I was using.
- 26:08Speaker 3: You guys get mad at me. If my aunt had
- 26:11Speaker 3: she'd be mine. But yeah, exactly. My thing is. My
- 26:18Speaker 3: thing is that Diamondbacks can't can't just be just because
- 26:20Speaker 3: they signed Corbyn Burns because he lives there and had twins.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Not every player that lives in Arizona is possibly going
- 26:28Speaker 3: to the Diamondbacks, like just to win, like Bregman wants
- 26:31Speaker 3: to go to a place like Boston where he has
- 26:35Speaker 3: a chance to win. Listen, no offense to the Diamondbacks.
- 26:37Speaker 3: They're not exactly in that division.
- 26:42Speaker 2: They were in the World Series a few years ago.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Okaya, similar roster right now, similar roster.
- 26:48Speaker 2: No, what's the difference.
- 26:53Speaker 3: They had an ace and Zach Gallona's not back. Mary.
- 26:58Speaker 3: They're taking flyers on starf darting pitchers, and their bullpen
- 27:03Speaker 3: was good. They're all coming back from injuries and they're
- 27:07Speaker 3: hoping that they do as well as they did before.
- 27:10Speaker 3: To me, if you want to go to the Diamondbacks, if
- 27:13Speaker 3: he goes to Diamondbacks, I'm like, yeah, awesome, I'm taking
- 27:16Speaker 3: the over all year on the Diamondbacks because there's gonna
- 27:18Speaker 3: be a lot of runs scored. They have a lot
- 27:20Speaker 3: of really electric players. They keep Marte, they have Corbyn, Carroll,
- 27:24Speaker 3: Perdomo took a giant leap forward last year. Awesome, you
- 27:28Speaker 3: got to keep some runs off the board, is true.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I love that.
- 27:39Speaker 1: To a team that's going to give him three years
- 27:41Speaker 1: in an opt out after one, I would love him
- 27:47Speaker 1: in New York. He pitches different in New York from
- 27:50Speaker 1: local against the Yankees or the Mets, he looks different.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I agree. I don't usually care about the local.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Story, but his numbers are so much better when he's
- 27:58Speaker 1: pitching against the Mets and the Yanks's that it would
- 28:00Speaker 1: just be fun from a fan perspective. But anyway, so
- 28:04Speaker 1: that's the latest with those two. I also want to
- 28:07Speaker 1: tie in another part of Ken's column. Oh, actually, I
- 28:11Speaker 1: guess we're going to do it in a different segment,
- 28:14Speaker 1: the luxury tax kind of situation. So let me get
- 28:17Speaker 1: to let me get to Brendan Donovan here and how
- 28:19Speaker 1: the second basement mark second base market fills out. Right,
- 28:22Speaker 1: So you guys talked about Cotel Marte. It sounds like
- 28:24Speaker 1: the Diamondbacks are going to make a decision one way
- 28:25Speaker 1: or another. But in the notes column with Ken and
- 28:29Speaker 1: Will Salmon. They spoke about how it's been difficult for
- 28:34Speaker 1: the Cardinals to pull off a trade to send out
- 28:37Speaker 1: Brendan Donovan, not because he's a bad player.
- 28:40Speaker 2: He's a very good player, but.
- 28:43Speaker 1: It seems as if the Cardinals are asking for a
- 28:45Speaker 1: star return and most teams are like, he's solid, he's good.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Stop asking for star return two years of Donovan. What
- 28:54Speaker 1: also holds it up is that gms are frightened that
- 28:58Speaker 1: they're going to acquire two years of a player that's
- 29:01Speaker 1: really one and change if there's a lockout. And you
- 29:03Speaker 1: can say that for almost anybody that's on multiple years.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But he did put that in the article, the second
- 29:09Speaker 1: of which, the second season of which is threatened by
- 29:12Speaker 1: a lockout. In the article, they mentioned the Royals among
- 29:15Speaker 1: the teams interested, and if the Cardinals prefer premium young bats,
- 29:19Speaker 1: the Mariners are perhaps the best fit. And we've heard
- 29:22Speaker 1: the Mariners link to Donovan for a while, linked to
- 29:26Speaker 1: Marte and to Donovan to see if they can acquire
- 29:28Speaker 1: one of those second basemen, which.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Would be a huge upgrade for Seattle.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I know they've got some young guys they want to
- 29:35Speaker 1: make room for, but man, if the Mariners bring in
- 29:38Speaker 1: Brendan Donovan or Coutell Marte. I know Ktel is another
- 29:42Speaker 1: level offensively, but either one would be I think huge
- 29:47Speaker 1: for their offense.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Do it? Okay? I agree, But Brendan Donovan. If they're
- 29:56Speaker 3: looking to trade Brendan Donovan and they're like, hey, we
- 30:00Speaker 3: want this, like teams that are gonna go that are
- 30:03Speaker 3: gonna go for him, are not going to have him
- 30:05Speaker 3: hitting in the meat of their order. He's gonna be
- 30:07Speaker 3: an awesome complimentary piece if he goes to the Mariners.
- 30:11Speaker 3: How much you trading for a guy that's gonna hit
- 30:13Speaker 3: fifth or sixth in your lineup? I wasn't listening. I
- 30:21Speaker 3: was too busy reading a chest. Ask it again. I'm sorry,
- 30:25Speaker 3: how n hit fifth or sixth in your lineup? It's
- 30:29Speaker 3: nothing against Brendan Donovan. It's more than you're not adding
- 30:32Speaker 3: a ton an. He's a good player, but he's not.
- 30:36Speaker 3: He's not a needle mover player because if he was,
- 30:39Speaker 3: the Cardinals wouldn't be one to trade him exactly, and
- 30:42Speaker 3: he would be a guy to be locked up. He
- 30:44Speaker 3: would be a guy. Hey, you know what, you just
- 30:45Speaker 3: had your first All Star season? Is his best year?
- 30:48Speaker 3: Value wise? Was his rookie year. His rookie year, he
- 30:51Speaker 3: came out just banging. He's been consistent. So what is
- 30:54Speaker 3: a two? There is a bidding more than somebody finally
- 31:04Speaker 3: hits the yes button on could tell Marte because then
- 31:07Speaker 3: the other teams like, dang, we really needed that upgrade. Okay,
- 31:11Speaker 3: Brendan Donovan's gonna upgrade a lot of teams at second base.
- 31:16Speaker 3: But I think if could tell Marte had gone off
- 31:19Speaker 3: the market and he was he was that guy and
- 31:23Speaker 3: he saw what that value is, then you could have
- 31:26Speaker 3: been like, okay, two years of Brendan Donovan and the
- 31:28Speaker 3: whole Like if if people are fearful of the lockout
- 31:33Speaker 3: season not trading, you know, trading a guy or anything,
- 31:36Speaker 3: either everybody would be trading everybody or nobody would trade.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I don't. I don't think that's a because that's not
- 31:43Speaker 3: just a Brennan Donovan thing. That's not hurting his value.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Great, we have front offices that overthink everything.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So that's what's gonna happen.
- 31:56Speaker 4: What if we trade for him and we only get
- 31:59Speaker 4: the one year of value or one and a half
- 32:03Speaker 4: years of value, God cares they care.
- 32:08Speaker 3: That's a reason you're you're coming you're coming up with
- 32:10Speaker 3: a reason to not trade for a guy. My thing
- 32:13Speaker 3: is you got to look at each team. How does
- 32:16Speaker 3: he upgrade that team? What are the Mariners? What are
- 32:19Speaker 3: the Mariners doing? I know they love their I know
- 32:20Speaker 3: they love their young prospect that's probably gonna play second base.
- 32:24Speaker 3: What are the Mariners need to eliminate that they do
- 32:26Speaker 3: all the time? Strikeout? Brenn and Donovan would be like
- 32:30Speaker 3: a breath of fresh air in that lineup. He puts
- 32:33Speaker 3: together great at bats, he gets he gets on base.
- 32:36Speaker 3: So to me, maybe the Mariners do slot him in
- 32:39Speaker 3: earlier in the lineup and so the value is more
- 32:42Speaker 3: for them, and I think it puts them over the
- 32:45Speaker 3: top as far as you know a team that their
- 32:48Speaker 3: pitching stays healthy. They've shown what they did last year.
- 32:52Speaker 3: But to me, other teams like you have to slot
- 32:56Speaker 3: him in somewhere. Could you play second base for the Dodgers?
- 32:58Speaker 3: Is Tommy Edmond gonna go back out to the outfield?
- 33:02Speaker 3: I don't know there's value there. He would be. He
- 33:05Speaker 3: would be an upgrade for a lot of teams, but
- 33:07Speaker 3: it's a matter of what you want to give for him.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Teams are really tough with trades. Both sides.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Yeah, because they won too much value. Yeah, it doesn't.
- 33:17Speaker 1: It feel just so painful to try and get trades
- 33:20Speaker 1: done like it used to be.
- 33:21Speaker 2: A guy is on the trade block and there is.
- 33:23Speaker 3: The overvalue prospects. I think they overvalue.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I think everybody overvalues everything.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Well, you're right, they probably the prospect side is whatever
- 33:30Speaker 1: because you have these.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Formulas that say so and so prospect is worth nine
- 33:35Speaker 3: billion dollars and he'll play three games in the big
- 33:37Speaker 3: leagues and they're like, oh, we messed up on how
- 33:39Speaker 3: I should.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Have traded that guy.
- 33:41Speaker 1: This is this is actually the simple reason playing off
- 33:44Speaker 1: what you're saying. If you just talk to someone and say,
- 33:46Speaker 1: don't say a single number, what's the reason. They'll go,
- 33:49Speaker 1: we're frightened we're going to trade that one guy away.
- 33:52Speaker 1: We're frightening that we're going to trade Pete crow Armstrong
- 33:56Speaker 1: for Hobby Bias.
- 33:57Speaker 3: No, you're afraid you're going to trade Fernando Cat's for James.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Shield either one.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, And they go, look how much surplus value we're
- 34:04Speaker 1: getting out of p crow Armstrong for his first few
- 34:06Speaker 1: years where he's making seven hundred k in this past season,
- 34:10Speaker 1: he was probably worth thirty mil or whatever. Right, they're
- 34:13Speaker 1: frightened of giving that person away.
- 34:16Speaker 2: That's what it is. That's why the trade market gets really,
- 34:19Speaker 2: really tricky.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Does he improve the team? That's what you have to ask.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Does he improve he makes them much better?
- 34:25Speaker 3: Yes, I promise whoever they're getting rid of does not
- 34:29Speaker 3: improve your team this year. If you're the Mariners, cal
- 34:32Speaker 3: Raley's getting a year older, all your pitchers are getting
- 34:35Speaker 3: more expensive in arbitration, it's okay to say our window
- 34:39Speaker 3: is this next two years. You're not like you're not
- 34:42Speaker 3: going to fall off a cliff those next two years,
- 34:44Speaker 3: Like there's other things you can do. Does he improve
- 34:46Speaker 3: your team enough to say the Mariners are playing against
- 34:49Speaker 3: the Dodgers in the World Series instead of the Blue Jays.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Yeah, because the Mariners, I mean what they're they're deciding games.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Sometimes you're watching them and you're like, damn, can anybody
- 35:00Speaker 1: get on base? Brendan Donovan Ken For me, I actually
- 35:04Speaker 1: am more against you guys on this argument.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Is he a superstar?
- 35:08Speaker 3: No?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Is he an All Star? I think he's an All
- 35:10Speaker 2: Star caliber player. I do.
- 35:14Speaker 1: All Star utility player for me, because it's not just
- 35:17Speaker 1: second base. He can play second base best, but he
- 35:19Speaker 1: can also around. For you, I think he's an All
- 35:22Speaker 1: Star player, and if teams are trying to play tough
- 35:27Speaker 1: with the Cardinals, then they're like, Okay, screw you, we'll
- 35:30Speaker 1: keep them for now.
- 35:31Speaker 2: That's me. I'm on the high side on Donovan. I'm
- 35:34Speaker 2: a big fan, Okay.
- 35:36Speaker 3: I think he's a good player. Yeah, yeah, I think
- 35:38Speaker 3: he can be. I think you could be a high
- 35:40Speaker 3: side on Donovan. Really like him like I think AJ
- 35:42Speaker 3: and I do. But personally, I'm gonna say myself, I
- 35:44Speaker 3: don't think he's an All Star player. If he's not
- 35:46Speaker 3: on the if he's not on the Cardinals last year,
- 35:49Speaker 3: is he an All Star? Does he? Does he make
- 35:51Speaker 3: the All Star team?
- 35:52Speaker 2: For me, he's an All Star caliber player. That's that's me.
- 35:55Speaker 2: We disagree on that one.
- 35:56Speaker 1: You guys, I think I have him like one not
- 35:58Speaker 1: blow what I do, right, If Superstar eight to ten,
- 36:01Speaker 1: I've got him at seven, where you know all Star
- 36:04Speaker 1: ranges six to seven or something, and you guys might
- 36:06Speaker 1: have him at five.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I'm just making numbers up, you know what I mean?
- 36:08Speaker 1: One notch below is what you guys have them at.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Listen. He's a good player.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so pay up if you want them. That's that's
- 36:17Speaker 2: the goal here.
- 36:17Speaker 3: There's not much, but teams are gonna they always they
- 36:20Speaker 3: look for their weaknesses, right, but the Mariners aren't signing.
- 36:23Speaker 2: They're not paying for but they won't know they're not
- 36:26Speaker 2: paying for.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Boba schet it nicely.
- 36:28Speaker 2: You would fit great.
- 36:28Speaker 1: But because they're not spending that kind of money, this
- 36:31Speaker 1: is the perfect spot either co tell Marte for like
- 36:34Speaker 1: five years one hundred or two years of Brendan Donald.
- 36:36Speaker 3: I think like the Pirates are spending money signed Boba sheet,
- 36:40Speaker 3: trade for kateel Marte.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I would love to see them trade for well, now
- 36:46Speaker 1: they have Brandon Brandon Lau at second base, just you
- 36:51Speaker 1: can bounce.
- 36:52Speaker 2: We talked about tell Marte for the Pirates as a fit.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Hey may Day is coming up in a few minutes
- 37:10Speaker 1: on the FT Network, Welcome Back Trevor may his first
- 37:13Speaker 1: show of twenty twenty six. Topics include terrible contracts that
- 37:19Speaker 1: we forgot about.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I love those kinds of topics. Terrible contracts that we
- 37:24Speaker 2: forgot about.
- 37:25Speaker 1: There's a theme as Anthony Rendon just was bought out,
- 37:31Speaker 1: so we'll go into some other contracts. There's ones we
- 37:33Speaker 1: remember I mean Steven Strasburg some of the recent ones,
- 37:37Speaker 1: but there's ones to go back on Chris Davis.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I don't know how far back he's going to go.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Most of the real big ones have to be in
- 37:45Speaker 1: the two thousands where the money is just enormous.
- 37:48Speaker 2: You know. It's not like you're going.
- 37:50Speaker 1: To be like, oh, remember in nineteen eighty five when
- 37:52Speaker 1: this guy made three million dollars, ah, he was only
- 37:54Speaker 1: worth one and a half, Like you got to get
- 37:56Speaker 1: the the big money one.
- 37:59Speaker 3: People remember Strasburg.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yes, Chris Bryant, so far, so far.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Sure's there's more time left for him to show up,
- 38:11Speaker 1: So anyway, check that out. And then also he's going
- 38:13Speaker 1: to do a deep dive into the change to the
- 38:15Speaker 1: minor league data.
- 38:16Speaker 3: That is.
- 38:19Speaker 1: A sensitive topic with most people. At this point. We
- 38:22Speaker 1: already covered it, so check out. It does a lot
- 38:26Speaker 1: of things, and you should look up who is likely
- 38:30Speaker 1: going to be in charge of that whole process. There's
- 38:33Speaker 1: a company making a bid and there's some family connections there.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Let's just put it that way. Should I stop crat
- 38:42Speaker 2: as distract me?
- 38:43Speaker 3: So there's three minutes left of the show. Don't get
- 38:46Speaker 3: people mad.
- 38:47Speaker 2: It's not even a conspiracy theory.
- 38:49Speaker 1: But to go to whatever, So go to Enostyrus, go
- 38:52Speaker 1: back to his retweets from like Christmas and check out
- 38:55Speaker 1: what he put up there and have some fun with that.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Yeah, Rob Manford's family is about to cash in on
- 39:02Speaker 3: a anyway. I had to wear my Padres, my Padres
- 39:06Speaker 3: spring training hat because me and Drew I couldn't find
- 39:10Speaker 3: my Sam Fran hat. Me and Drew played together in
- 39:13Speaker 3: spring training. I got him. I got him off on
- 39:15Speaker 3: the right foot his only All Star year. I said, Drew,
- 39:18Speaker 3: you know what you need to do. You need to
- 39:19Speaker 3: throw your curveball and I'll catch it and no one
- 39:22Speaker 3: else will hit it. And then he made the All
- 39:23Speaker 3: Star team. So I'm pretty much pitcher whisper.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I made a lot of money too. Drew signed that
- 39:31Speaker 1: big contract with San Diego.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Yeah, uh like dinner.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I didn't even know that that. You guys were friends like.
- 39:40Speaker 3: That, But it wasn't me. I had another I had
- 39:43Speaker 3: another story about Drew. We both had alopecia issues the
- 39:47Speaker 3: same day, same time. But that's that's a little more,
- 39:52Speaker 3: a little more behind the scenes.
- 39:54Speaker 2: How does that is that just a coincidence?
- 39:56Speaker 1: It's not like I don't know much about but wow,
- 40:00Speaker 1: so you guys are alopecia buddies.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and then he was an All Star and I floundered.
- 40:09Speaker 3: H
