- 0:10Speaker 1: All right, well inside one leg up alex Media from
- 0:14Speaker 1: Cooperstown to Hillcrest, Queens and to New York City and beyond.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It was a busy Memorial Day weekend and I have
- 0:22Speaker 1: a few folks to think. But first I want to
- 0:24Speaker 1: thank our troops. I want to think those who have
- 0:28Speaker 1: sacrificed their lives in the two hundred and fifty year
- 0:32Speaker 1: history of our country to make sure we were free,
- 0:37Speaker 1: we are free.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And to help get us here to year two fifteen America.
- 0:44Speaker 1: The thanks firstly belongs to all those who were dedicated
- 0:48Speaker 1: to their country.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And drafted and also fought gallantly.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And bravely and courageously storm the beaches of Normandy, raise the.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Flag in Ewojima. I mean, all these moments.
- 1:08Speaker 1: In our American history are thanks to our brave men
- 1:15Speaker 1: and women in uniform. And this Memorial Day we remember
- 1:18Speaker 1: all those who sacrifice their lives for us so that
- 1:22Speaker 1: we can be here to celebrate year two fifty.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And to those continuing to serve, thank you. As always, we.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Should always think the troops, not just on Memorial Day
- 1:33Speaker 1: July fourth, their veterans say, but every damn day you
- 1:36Speaker 1: see a veteran. That's how I feel about it. Here
- 1:39Speaker 1: one look up Alex Media. But I also wanna thank
- 1:46Speaker 1: Craig of the National Baseball Hall of Fame for allowing
- 1:50Speaker 1: one look up Alex Media in to the Military Classic.
- 1:54Speaker 2: As Media and Boyle Boy.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We got some interesting sound bites, some great sound bites
- 2:00Speaker 1: from the likes of Shane Spencer.
- 2:03Speaker 2: All Right, I'm here with Shane Spencer.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You know, everybody knows them from the Yankees, but one
- 2:07Speaker 1: all those championships.
- 2:08Speaker 2: But how special is today? I mean, is a rank
- 2:10Speaker 2: up there or even beyond I didn't talk.
- 2:11Speaker 3: About I mean, besides being soaked, wet and the rain, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 3: it was tough, but yeah, but representing the military for
- 2:18Speaker 3: my family and the other guys that are here, the
- 2:21Speaker 3: young guys, even the other guys that have had something
- 2:24Speaker 3: to do with the military family, it's a great thing.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And I was honored to be here. And what's like
- 2:29Speaker 2: coming back to Brucetown.
- 2:30Speaker 3: To be up here, Well, I've never given invited, so
- 2:35Speaker 3: I'm way out of that league. But to be around
- 2:38Speaker 3: guys that I played with and this great trending with
- 2:41Speaker 3: the Wade Bogs and Todd Hillton, Scott Rolling, it's special
- 2:45Speaker 3: for me.
- 2:45Speaker 2: To like know that I played with those guests. Absolutely
- 2:48Speaker 2: shame thanks for coming. Absolutely, I see you again, David Robertson.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I see a lot of my friends and meet some
- 2:55Speaker 2: new friends out here. And unfortunately the weather it wasn't
- 2:57Speaker 2: great for us, so we weren't able to get most
- 2:59Speaker 2: of the game. But I had a great time.
- 3:01Speaker 3: And then the military today too, You say we did
- 3:03Speaker 3: on the military, I mean, that's that's what this game
- 3:05Speaker 3: is all about, and went, thank you for everyone's service
- 3:07Speaker 3: and the reason.
- 3:07Speaker 2: That we begin be here breathing played in this game today, Well,
- 3:10Speaker 2: thank you so much. Everything good. And Josh Reddick, I'm
- 3:16Speaker 2: here with Josh Reddick real quick, what would say like
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm just playing ball again?
- 3:22Speaker 1: What was that like? For just being here and showing
- 3:25Speaker 1: our appreciation on first to the militaries. And that's what
- 3:28Speaker 1: this whole thing is about to celebrate two hundred and
- 3:30Speaker 1: fifteen years and fifty.
- 3:32Speaker 3: But it's being in Cooper's town then, like I said
- 3:34Speaker 3: it all day to day, like I get all eatings
- 3:36Speaker 3: and kidd here, I'm a.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Baseball fan at heart. I'm just a little kid anyway,
- 3:40Speaker 2: at almost forty years old. It's to come here and
- 3:42Speaker 2: just to be in this building and being in this city.
- 3:45Speaker 2: There's just a special aura around it. But you just
- 3:47Speaker 2: feel because you looked around and all the.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Greatest players in this game, and then you're gonna come
- 3:52Speaker 1: back and hang out with all the guys that you
- 3:53Speaker 1: played against, they're played with.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And forget that.
- 3:55Speaker 3: It's like we said today, it's like coming back, don't
- 3:57Speaker 3: matter if you've been away for ten years and two
- 3:59Speaker 3: two minutes, the boys come.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Up together and everybody picks up that all's back at them.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I mean three world champions and that was just a
- 4:12Speaker 1: handful of those that were in attendance on Saturday at
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Military Classic. I mean Halliday manager, Tony LaRussa, Scott
- 4:21Speaker 1: Rowland of the third of the Phillies, legendary third baseman,
- 4:26Speaker 1: Raley Fingers, Fergie Jenkins, Wade Boggs, Jack Morris, Todd zeal
- 4:34Speaker 1: And at some point I'm gonna get him on. Actually
- 4:37Speaker 1: a member of the LS Warriors baseball team. They're an
- 4:40Speaker 1: amputee baseball team.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Uh. And that was Kenny.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Who plays on the l S Baseball war You'll hear
- 4:49Speaker 1: from him later in the week. But it was just
- 4:53Speaker 1: amazing because when we see these guys play Clay, we
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't think about their family lives.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Do we as much but roll when Larus.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Todd Helton, all of them were talking about how their
- 5:05Speaker 1: family was in the military. Charlie Morton was on the
- 5:09Speaker 1: mound also had family in the military. I mean, all
- 5:15Speaker 1: these baseball guys have family military backgrounds, and that's why
- 5:19Speaker 1: they were there to thank the troops, only because to
- 5:22Speaker 1: thank the troops because it was personal to them.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It was extremely personal to them.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And the tears in some of these guys eyes when
- 5:30Speaker 1: they talked about their father was, you know, in the military,
- 5:33Speaker 1: but they wouldn't talk about it until many years later
- 5:37Speaker 1: in their nineties.
- 5:39Speaker 2: The Greatest Generation truly.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Just kept on going as if everything was okay, and
- 5:44Speaker 1: they were stoic about it, and that's something we should
- 5:48Speaker 1: never forget.
- 5:50Speaker 2: How stoic the Greatest generation.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Was this Memorial Day as we honor year two fifty,
- 6:00Speaker 1: the Baseball Hall of Fame honors year two fifty and
- 6:03Speaker 1: MLB will honor year two fifty. Well. I ended the
- 6:12Speaker 1: weekend after began the air yesterday with Lucas and murder.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I ended the weekend right down the hill from my
- 6:18Speaker 1: house and Hillcrest Queens, reading the inscriptions of the monument
- 6:24Speaker 1: by Hillcrest Post as.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Ten seventy eight the American Legion. And here's what those
- 6:34Speaker 2: inscriptions read. On Union Turnpike.
- 6:39Speaker 1: The inscription reads, we shall keep the faith we cherish
- 6:45Speaker 1: to the poppy, read that grows on fields where valor
- 6:50Speaker 1: led that it seems to signal to the skies a
- 6:57Speaker 1: blood of heroes never times but lent them muster to
- 7:06Speaker 1: their venue. Flower that blooms above the head.
- 7:14Speaker 2: In Flat Christy.
- 7:17Speaker 1: From Moyna Michael, November nineteen eight, in honor of the
- 7:25Speaker 1: men of this community inserved in defense of our country.
- 7:29Speaker 1: An insigra memory of those who made the supreme secrets
- 7:34Speaker 1: that's America to fifty. May God bless all of those
- 7:39Speaker 1: that must their lives defending our freedoms.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And may God bless all.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Those continued to serve this country and protect us and
- 7:48Speaker 1: keep us free and brought those who fought and served
- 7:52Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty years. Thank you towards your sacrifice.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It's your dedication to this country that we are here
- 8:01Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty years later.
- 8:03Speaker 2: May God bless American
