- 0:00Speaker 1: Ron Verb on NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And from NewsRadio 570 WKBN, welcome to a Tuesday afternoon,
- 0:12Speaker 2: October 27th. It is 68 degrees. It's a lovely day outside.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Be with you until 6 o'clock tonight on NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Let me see who awaits me here today.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Hello. Ron Verb, this is your friend Dave Johnson calling.
- 0:27Speaker 2: The one and only Dave Johnson is on the end
- 0:29Speaker 2: of my line. That's right. From Hanoverton with a big
- 0:34Speaker 2: mop of gray hair down there, the tall man. How
- 0:38Speaker 2: are you doing, David?
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'm doing well, Ron. I just wanted to call into
- 0:43Speaker 3: your program. I haven't been in to see you in
- 0:46Speaker 3: a while. And with everything that's happening in this election,
- 0:50Speaker 3: I thought I just would love to call and have
- 0:52Speaker 3: a couple minutes on your line to let your listeners
- 0:55Speaker 3: know what I see is at stake in this election.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And I'd like to hear it. What is it at
- 1:02Speaker 2: stake here? Give me your assessment.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Well, let's take the governor's race just briefly. I know
- 1:08Speaker 3: there's been this controversial ad that's out there, and I
- 1:12Speaker 3: don't favor that ad. I think it was probably not
- 1:14Speaker 3: the right thing to do. But if you look at
- 1:17Speaker 3: the candidate, here you have a candidate in Dr. Amy Acton,
- 1:23Speaker 3: who has never been a doctor. She never did a residency.
- 1:26Speaker 3: She never practiced medicine. And the facts of the matter
- 1:30Speaker 3: are she has never held a job for more than
- 1:34Speaker 3: two years. Most people don't know that she lost her
- 1:39Speaker 3: job as Director of Health under Governor DeWine, and the
- 1:44Speaker 3: truth be known, she was let go. She was fired.
- 1:49Speaker 3: We talk about this lying situation with her. Here's somebody
- 1:55Speaker 3: with a serious drug and alcohol addiction problem where let's
- 2:01Speaker 3: talk about public record. She's got two daughters. Both of
- 2:06Speaker 3: those daughters, on more than one occasion, have called 911
- 2:10Speaker 3: on their mother to the Bexley Police Department to say,
- 2:15Speaker 3: mother's been drinking again, quote unquote. She's breaking things. She's
- 2:20Speaker 3: throwing things. Please come to the house. Not just once,
- 2:25Speaker 3: on multiple, on two different occasions. And there's a public
- 2:29Speaker 3: record of this. Anyone that wants it could get it.
- 2:34Speaker 3: We look at this. She supposedly said she was attacked
- 2:38Speaker 3: at the Canfield Fair. It turns out that that's not true.
- 2:42Speaker 3: The video cameras that they had that night was somebody
- 2:45Speaker 3: who was trying to tape record her. And this is
- 2:50Speaker 3: a campaign that refuses to allow even her supporters to
- 2:54Speaker 3: to either audio tape or videotape any of her public appearances.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Refuses to debate. So you've got to wonder, when somebody's
- 3:05Speaker 3: running a stealth campaign and is not accessible to people,
- 3:09Speaker 3: and you really don't know what her positions are, is
- 3:13Speaker 3: that what we want in Ohio? it should scare the
- 3:18Speaker 3: hell out of us when we think.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Well, I think you made a very important point, and
- 3:23Speaker 2: I want to go back to it. She is a doctor,
- 3:26Speaker 2: and I want you to go over this with me again.
- 3:29Speaker 2: She runs as a doctor, but she doesn't have a practice?
- 3:34Speaker 3: She does not have a practice. She never did a residency,
- 3:37Speaker 3: which would be step number one to being a practicing physician.
- 3:41Speaker 3: She uses this doctor title, but she's not a doctor.
- 3:46Speaker 3: She's never practiced medicine. And I was on a radio
- 3:49Speaker 3: program this morning down in Steubenville. It's one of the
- 3:52Speaker 3: reasons I called you. I had several people call in
- 3:55Speaker 3: and say they never knew that. They never knew that
- 3:59Speaker 3: her daughters had called 911 on her. And that there's
- 4:02Speaker 3: a police record about her admitting to police that she
- 4:06Speaker 3: was mixing pills, prescription drugs with alcohol and then wanted
- 4:11Speaker 3: to get in the car and drive. And they refused
- 4:13Speaker 3: to let her do that, obviously. So, I mean, you're
- 4:17Speaker 3: talking about somebody that has zero experience to take on drugs.
- 4:23Speaker 3: is the chief executive officer of a $ 50 billion corporation,
- 4:27Speaker 3: which is what the state of Ohio is.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So the state of Ohio, I'm taking notes here, $ 50
- 4:34Speaker 2: billion business.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Right. That's the annual budget of this state. We pass
- 4:39Speaker 3: biannual budgets, so the biannual budget's $ 100 billion. And she
- 4:45Speaker 3: has had zero experience as an executive or even as
- 4:51Speaker 3: a leader. She's never held a job for more than
- 4:53Speaker 3: two years. And the biggest job she had was working
- 4:57Speaker 3: as the health director for the state of Ohio during COVID.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Would she quit? Would she quit?
- 5:03Speaker 3: Well, she quit. I was told she was fired.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Okay, well, either way, but she quit. I mean, she left.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 2: As I understand it, she left, she couldn't take the
- 5:13Speaker 2: pressure or the criticism.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Or the heat. At one point in time, she was
- 5:17Speaker 3: found in a fetal position in her office, having a meltdown. Look,
- 5:23Speaker 3: it was a stressful time. I mean, I don't doubt
- 5:26Speaker 3: anyone would be stressed. But when you're going to be
- 5:30Speaker 3: the leader of, at that time, leader of that agency,
- 5:34Speaker 3: that's hardly the behavior that you would expect. And so
- 5:40Speaker 3: here we are at a time when the state of
- 5:41Speaker 3: Ohio has just been ranked by CNBC, which is not
- 5:47Speaker 3: some conservative right-wing group. CNBC just ranked Ohio as the
- 5:51Speaker 3: number one state in the nation on economic development, on
- 5:58Speaker 3: jobs creation, even on our bond rating, which is critical
- 6:02Speaker 3: for getting financing for public works projects. The best bond
- 6:07Speaker 3: rating that the state has had in three decades. We
- 6:11Speaker 3: have the lowest personal income tax rate in the nation,
- 6:16Speaker 3: second only to Arizona. And then, of course, there are
- 6:18Speaker 3: a couple of states that don't have an income tax
- 6:21Speaker 3: at all. So when I hear people clamoring for tax reform,
- 6:25Speaker 3: they're being taxed out of their houses on their property tax.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And Vivek wants, that's one of his top goals is
- 6:33Speaker 3: to address that problem. She wants to increase taxes. She said,
- 6:36Speaker 3: we're not being taxed enough. I talked to the Farm
- 6:42Speaker 3: Bureau recently. She was interviewed. She interviewed with the Farm Bureau.
- 6:46Speaker 3: She wants to reinstate the estate tax in Ohio. and
- 6:50Speaker 3: would not commit. They said, well, would you commit at
- 6:52Speaker 3: least not to do this for a while? She would
- 6:55Speaker 3: not commit to it. She wants to reinstate the estate tax,
- 6:59Speaker 3: which affects small companies and family farms that are tight
- 7:04Speaker 3: on cash, that would have a very difficult time under
- 7:08Speaker 3: the old scenario that prior to now, we had a 7%, 7.5%
- 7:12Speaker 3: estate tax with a very low exemption. I think the
- 7:14Speaker 3: exemption was... you know, a couple hundred thousand dollars before
- 7:21Speaker 3: that kicked in. And it's the kind of reform that
- 7:27Speaker 3: it took years to put these in place. And we
- 7:30Speaker 3: finally got our economy working well, and someone's going to
- 7:34Speaker 3: come in and turn all that upside down? Someone that's
- 7:37Speaker 3: got zero experience that has lied about her record? I mean,
- 7:41Speaker 3: I just think the voters of the Valley need to
- 7:45Speaker 3: stop and think clearly about what kind of future we
- 7:48Speaker 3: want here in this state.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I think this is important information that you're passing along here.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And I know it's going to be repetitious to you,
- 7:59Speaker 2: and I understand that, but I want you to repeat
- 8:02Speaker 2: what you just said to me. Now, I want to
- 8:05Speaker 2: go back to her job record. She is not practicing medicine.
- 8:08Speaker 2: She doesn't have a practice. She hasn't held a job
- 8:11Speaker 2: for longer than two years, you said?
- 8:13Speaker 3: That's correct. Not anywhere in her career has she held
- 8:17Speaker 3: a job for more than two years with the same employer.
- 8:21Speaker 2: And she's not a practicing doctor right now?
- 8:24Speaker 3: Not a practicing doctor, and she claims that she is.
- 8:30Speaker 3: That's a serious credibility problem as far as I'm concerned.
- 8:37Speaker 3: She won't debate. Of course, we know that. But she
- 8:40Speaker 3: won't even permit interviews. And they have some of her
- 8:44Speaker 3: handlers come. If you're going to an event for her,
- 8:47Speaker 3: and these are all assumably... her supporters, they're told there
- 8:51Speaker 3: will be no audio and no video at this appearance
- 8:55Speaker 3: that she has.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Doesn't that seem odd to you? Why is that?
- 9:00Speaker 3: I mean, the lock, stock, and trade of any political
- 9:03Speaker 3: leader on either side of the aisle is to be
- 9:05Speaker 3: able to stand before an audience and present themselves and say,
- 9:08Speaker 3: here's what I believe in. Take this to your families.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Take this back to your neighborhood. Let people know, here's
- 9:15Speaker 3: what I want to accomplish for Ohio. But she's running
- 9:19Speaker 3: a campaign that's based on Biden, where, you know, Biden
- 9:22Speaker 3: basically stayed in the basement of his house. And we
- 9:26Speaker 3: ended up electing somebody that you see what he did
- 9:29Speaker 3: to the country. We started a war. We started a
- 9:33Speaker 3: war in Ukraine. And now we have a war in Iran, Iran.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Europe is on fire right now.
- 9:43Speaker 2: But just pause for a second, David. In politics, usually
- 9:47Speaker 2: you want people to record you and post it on
- 9:51Speaker 2: social media because it gets you more exposure. But here's
- 9:55Speaker 2: a case of where we don't want you to do that. That's,
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know, it's odd to me that she won't debate
- 10:03Speaker 2: Vivek to begin with. I mean, this is you. Neither
- 10:08Speaker 2: one of these people have been governor of the state.
- 10:09Speaker 2: We as citizens have a right to hear them in
- 10:11Speaker 2: an exchange. And she refuses to do that. She refuses
- 10:15Speaker 2: to have these things recorded, which is which is to
- 10:19Speaker 2: me very odd. And you're talking about she's not doing interviews?
- 10:25Speaker 3: Not doing any interviews. Of course, she's being endorsed by,
- 10:28Speaker 3: you know, the big liberal newspapers around the state. That's expected.
- 10:33Speaker 3: And all the polls show that she's ahead. And I
- 10:37Speaker 3: look back four years ago when Governor DeWine was running
- 10:40Speaker 3: against Cordray. Cordray was actually a pretty good candidate. He
- 10:45Speaker 3: had great qualifications, was a very credible candidate. And all
- 10:49Speaker 3: the polls showed that Cordray was winning. And even up
- 10:53Speaker 3: until the night of the election, I remember talking to
- 10:56Speaker 3: the governor himself and said, well, what do you think?
- 11:00Speaker 3: They thought they lost the election because all the media
- 11:04Speaker 3: was saying that Cordray was so far ahead there was
- 11:07Speaker 3: no way we could possibly win. Two years ago when
- 11:11Speaker 3: Bernie Marino ran against Sherrod Brown, the same thing. Right
- 11:15Speaker 3: up until the election, they were saying that Sherrod Brown
- 11:19Speaker 3: had got it. Four or five, six points ahead in
- 11:22Speaker 3: some of these polls. And Bernie Marino, who's a newcomer,
- 11:26Speaker 3: nobody ever heard of Bernie Marino. And he won by
- 11:30Speaker 3: four points. It wasn't even close. So I'm just urging
- 11:34Speaker 3: people to consider what's at stake. What are we trying
- 11:38Speaker 3: to change in Ohio that's so terrible? When I cited
- 11:42Speaker 3: some of the statistics, you know, another statistic. I serve
- 11:46Speaker 3: on the Bureau of Workers' Compensation in Ohio. Several years ago,
- 11:51Speaker 3: back under John Kasich's day, Somerville tiles went a million
- 11:56Speaker 3: hours with one lost-time accident. And I got a call
- 12:00Speaker 3: one day from the governor, and he said, David, I
- 12:02Speaker 3: saw this report. He said, there's a seat on the
- 12:05Speaker 3: Bureau of Workers' Comp. I'd like to have you on
- 12:07Speaker 3: that board. We need business people that understand how this works.
- 12:12Speaker 3: And obviously, if you want a million hours with one
- 12:15Speaker 3: last-time accident, you ought to be on this board. So
- 12:19Speaker 3: let me tell you about the Bureau of Workers' Comp
- 12:21Speaker 3: in Ohio. Under John Husted, who led the way in
- 12:26Speaker 3: this department, he was the chief economic development guy for
- 12:29Speaker 3: the governor for the last eight years. We have initiated
- 12:32Speaker 3: $ 10. 2 billion worth of rebates back to Ohio's employers. And
- 12:40Speaker 3: that includes cities and towns and townships. Any employer in Ohio,
- 12:45Speaker 3: big and small.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Listen, I'm just going to confess to everybody, including me.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Including you. You're paying workers' comp for someone that... I
- 12:56Speaker 3: know you have a lawn mowing business on the side.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I just got.
- 13:00Speaker 2: This, I think, is the second year that you got
- 13:03Speaker 2: a rebate on that, if I'm not mistaken.
- 13:05Speaker 3: No, it's been going on for eight years. The point
- 13:08Speaker 3: I was going to make is if you add up
- 13:09Speaker 3: that total $ 10 billion, that's more than all the employers
- 13:13Speaker 3: of Ohio have paid in in premiums. So in Ohio,
- 13:17Speaker 3: under the Republican leadership, not perfect. DeWine's not perfect. There
- 13:22Speaker 3: are things people upset him about. But if you look
- 13:25Speaker 3: at the record... Workers' comp was free in Ohio. No
- 13:29Speaker 3: other state in the United States can say that. This
- 13:34Speaker 3: is what everyone says. We're going to throw out the
- 13:36Speaker 3: window so we can bring Amy Acton in here, who's
- 13:41Speaker 3: got a drinking problem and a truth-telling problem? You're going
- 13:45Speaker 3: to put her in charge of a $ 50 billion state?
- 13:50Speaker 3: On top of being just an absolute left-wing liberal. I've
- 13:57Speaker 3: got a lot of Democrat friends that are just, they
- 14:00Speaker 3: can't believe what's happened to the Democrat Party. It's not
- 14:04Speaker 3: the party of JFK and FDR and Hubert Humphrey and
- 14:10Speaker 3: a lot of great Democrats that are their history. Sherrod
- 14:15Speaker 3: Brown is in this school. Let's talk about Sherrod. He's
- 14:18Speaker 3: in favor of open borders. Who could possibly think that
- 14:23Speaker 3: open borders having 20 million, or pick the number, 10
- 14:27Speaker 3: to 20 million, illegals pouring into this country with free
- 14:33Speaker 3: health care and free education and free housing. They were
- 14:37Speaker 3: shipping these illegals all over the state, all over the country,
- 14:40Speaker 3: and housing them basically in the urban areas, especially so
- 14:46Speaker 3: that they could change the census and The Constitution says
- 14:51Speaker 3: that the census of the nation will be not by citizens,
- 14:55Speaker 3: but by residents. So if you put 10 million people
- 14:59Speaker 3: in the urban areas of America, which are the Democrat
- 15:02Speaker 3: congressional districts, guess what that does? That gives you more
- 15:06Speaker 3: Democrat districts. Is it another 10 more? Is it another
- 15:10Speaker 3: 20 more? That's been part of the Democrat strategy with
- 15:16Speaker 3: these open borders. It's what's happened in Europe right now,
- 15:19Speaker 3: that Europe is on fire over this immigration. Mostly over there,
- 15:24Speaker 3: it's Islamic radicals that have taken over. And, you know,
- 15:32Speaker 3: they've gone to socialism. They're like 20 years ahead of us.
- 15:36Speaker 3: France right now has got free college education. I think
- 15:40Speaker 3: they're down to a four-day work week, free medical care.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Everything's free, and it's not enough. They're burning Paris down
- 15:49Speaker 3: because they want more. Is that what we want here?
- 15:55Speaker 3: This is what Sherrod Brown, this is his wing of
- 15:57Speaker 3: the party. The Bernie Sanders wing, that's what they want.
- 16:02Speaker 3: They want amnesty, immediate amnesty for all illegals. And, of course,
- 16:07Speaker 3: what I just said, they want to make them voters.
- 16:12Speaker 3: They want to eliminate the Electoral College. So the big
- 16:16Speaker 3: urban areas are going to determine the outcome of the voting,
- 16:21Speaker 3: especially for presidential elections. Some of them are talking about
- 16:25Speaker 3: eliminating the U.S.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Senate.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I mean, they're not masking what they have in mind.
- 16:31Speaker 3: They're going to add Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Let's
- 16:35Speaker 3: make them states. So we pick up four more liberal senators.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I mean, this is the agenda of Sherrod Brown and
- 16:44Speaker 3: Amy Acton. And if they should take control of the Congress.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Hold that thought. Hold that thought. Let me do my break.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Talking with Dave Johnson on NewsRadio 570 WKBN. We'll listen
- 16:56Speaker 2: to this interesting back in a minute. Well, by now
- 17:01Speaker 2: you should know not all CBD oil is created. Talk
- 17:04Speaker 2: Station 570 WKBN. There we go. News Radio 570 WKBN.
- 17:09Speaker 2: And Ron Ferb with Dave Johnson with the Republican Party
- 17:13Speaker 2: out of Columbiana County. I mean, I'm sitting here listening
- 17:17Speaker 2: to you, David, and I don't think most people know
- 17:20Speaker 2: what you've just said. I mean, I think she's an enigma.
- 17:26Speaker 3: She really is. She's the Manchurian candidate. that nobody knows
- 17:31Speaker 3: anything about. It's unfortunate that this ad came out about
- 17:35Speaker 3: her mom. I didn't like that ad either. When I
- 17:37Speaker 3: heard the whole backstory, it's a horrible thing. She's had
- 17:41Speaker 3: a very difficult young life, and it's regrettable that that
- 17:45Speaker 3: issue is now clouding people's judgment on what's really at stake.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I used to own Summitville Tiles. My brother and I
- 17:54Speaker 3: recently sold the company that had been in our family
- 17:57Speaker 3: for 110 years. We were the last surviving of the
- 18:02Speaker 3: major tile companies in America. Sitting down here in Somerville
- 18:06Speaker 3: is a 200-year supply of clay. We had a workforce that, again,
- 18:12Speaker 3: some of them were third- and fourth-generation employees, just like
- 18:16Speaker 3: my family was. We were in our fourth generation here
- 18:19Speaker 3: that knew better than anybody how to make these products.
- 18:23Speaker 3: We were shipping our tile around the world. Shipping it
- 18:26Speaker 3: to China, we were paying a tariff over there of 58%
- 18:31Speaker 3: while they shipped tile here to America with no tariff.
- 18:37Speaker 3: And these trade policies of the last couple of decades
- 18:40Speaker 3: are the reason that we eventually really were forced to
- 18:43Speaker 3: sell our company. And so people were screaming at Trump
- 18:47Speaker 3: about the tariffs. Did you realize that the voters of
- 18:50Speaker 3: this valley and your listeners, do you realize that the
- 18:53Speaker 3: tariffs that the president has implemented are only countervailing tariffs,
- 19:00Speaker 3: which means they're only a tariff on a nation that
- 19:03Speaker 3: is tariffing products that we ship into their country? Even
- 19:08Speaker 3: in the case of Canada, they're our next-door neighbor. We said, look,
- 19:13Speaker 3: you lower your tariff and we'll lower ours. You eliminate
- 19:16Speaker 3: your tariff, we'll eliminate ours. And that's what the fight's about.
- 19:21Speaker 3: And yet the media will make you think that Trump's
- 19:23Speaker 3: just doing this to be a bad guy, trying to
- 19:25Speaker 3: be a disruptor, trying to, you know. I wish to
- 19:28Speaker 3: hell we'd had Trump in here 30 years ago and
- 19:31Speaker 3: the tariffs could have saved the ceramic tile industry. We
- 19:35Speaker 3: at one time at Somerville had 800 employees in four factories.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I'm down now to one factory and trying to hold
- 19:43Speaker 3: on to 150 jobs. where the people have good wages
- 19:48Speaker 3: they have a retirement plan they have health care, five
- 19:51Speaker 3: weeks paid vacation, jury pay, funeral pay, perfect attendance pay,
- 19:56Speaker 3: and we couldn't compete with the countries in China and
- 20:01Speaker 3: Southeast Asia and throughout the world that were using America
- 20:05Speaker 3: as a dumping ground until Trump came in and stood
- 20:08Speaker 3: up to them. What the hell's the matter with people?
- 20:12Speaker 3: His bedside manner is not great, but his policies are
- 20:15Speaker 3: working for working families in this country.
- 20:21Speaker 2: It's just, so, I mean, for me to think about it,
- 20:25Speaker 2: talk a little bit about Vivek. What do you like
- 20:28Speaker 2: about him?
- 20:29Speaker 3: What I like about Vivek is, you know, they talk
- 20:32Speaker 3: about him being a billionaire, right? Vivek was born in Cincinnati, Ohio,
- 20:38Speaker 3: of common folk. His mom and dad were, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 3: they weren't millionaires. I think they're both professionals. I'm not
- 20:46Speaker 3: sure what they did for a living. I know that
- 20:48Speaker 3: the Republican state chairman, Alex Triantafillo, was the county chairman
- 20:53Speaker 3: down in that county. When Vivek was 17 years old,
- 20:57Speaker 3: he came in to see the state chairman, who at
- 20:59Speaker 3: the time was county chairman, and said, Sir, how do
- 21:02Speaker 3: I get involved? I want to be a part of
- 21:05Speaker 3: the local Republican Party. He was in high school. And
- 21:09Speaker 3: so I just know people that know him down there.
- 21:13Speaker 3: And so he goes on to Harvard, graduates top in
- 21:18Speaker 3: his class. He scored a perfect score on his ACT.
- 21:24Speaker 3: He's a concert pianist. He's a guy that went out
- 21:28Speaker 3: and started a company and turned it into a billion-dollar enterprise.
- 21:33Speaker 3: And I hear these ads saying that, well, he duped
- 21:36Speaker 3: people and he made some kind of a medical procedure
- 21:42Speaker 3: for Alzheimer's people that didn't work. And all this is
- 21:46Speaker 3: a bunch of bull. You don't become a billionaire from
- 21:50Speaker 3: nothing and just be a fraudster. And they have maligned
- 21:55Speaker 3: this young guy on his religion, his ethnicity. He's a
- 22:02Speaker 3: man of color. If the Republicans did that to a Democrat,
- 22:06Speaker 3: there would be hell to pay for it. They've maligned
- 22:10Speaker 3: his mother. The media have said nothing about that. They've
- 22:13Speaker 3: even tried to rope his mother in on, you know,
- 22:16Speaker 3: malfeasance and, you know, various things that they charged her with.
- 22:22Speaker 3: You know, and the media doesn't say anything about that.
- 22:26Speaker 3: I've got friends of mine, Republicans, that have said, well,
- 22:28Speaker 3: this ad was so distasteful. I said, well, have you
- 22:31Speaker 3: seen what they said about him and about his mother
- 22:34Speaker 3: and his family?
- 22:35Speaker 2: Stay tuned. Hang on. Dave Johnson back with him in
- 22:37Speaker 2: a minute. Stay tuned. A lot to learn.
- 22:39Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKVN.
- 22:42Speaker 6: Attorneys for Rodney Hinton Jr. are seeking a new trial
- 22:48Speaker 6: following his murder conviction in the death of a Hamilton
- 22:51Speaker 6: County deputy. Defense attorneys say jurors may have considered statements
- 22:55Speaker 6: that they were instructed not to use when reaching their verdict.
- 22:58Speaker 6: Hinton is scheduled to be sentenced on November 16th. Two
- 23:02Speaker 6: people are hurt after a twin-engine plane crashed into a
- 23:04Speaker 6: home in Montgomery Township Monday. Authorities say the aircraft may
- 23:08Speaker 6: have experienced engine failure before the crash. The pilot and
- 23:12Speaker 6: passenger were treated at the scene, and the person inside
- 23:14Speaker 6: the home was not injured. Franklin Park Mall in Toledo
- 23:18Speaker 6: is closed because of a water main break. Mall officials
- 23:21Speaker 6: announced Monday that repair crews are working to fix the
- 23:24Speaker 6: issue and restore normal operations. The extent of the damage
- 23:27Speaker 6: has not been released. No timetable has been announced for
- 23:30Speaker 6: the mall's reopening. I'm Andy Betts.

- 23:41Speaker 1: Free never sounded so good.
- 23:43Speaker 8: A to Z dependable services, plumbing, septic, heating, cooling, and
- 23:47Speaker 8: one-day baths. You have daily pay.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Now, Ron Verb on News Radio 570 WKBN.
- 23:55Speaker 2: How interesting is what you're learning here today, courtesy of
- 23:59Speaker 2: Dave Johnson, the Republican Party out of Columbiana County.
- 24:04Speaker 3: And.
- 24:06Speaker 2: You know, I'm sitting back and I'm listening to you,
- 24:09Speaker 2: and I'm just– I don't think people understand a lot
- 24:12Speaker 2: of what you've had to say. You know, when you're
- 24:15Speaker 2: talking about– and let me just reiterate for anybody that's
- 24:18Speaker 2: an employer out there that's pacing a worker's comp. Anybody
- 24:22Speaker 2: that's an employer out there, most of you, if not
- 24:25Speaker 2: all of you, got a rebate. Correct, Dave Johnson? I mean,
- 24:27Speaker 2: from workers' compensation.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Yeah, they've gotten a rebate. They've gotten six rebates so far.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Substantial rebates.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Over the last eight years.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and you pay a decent buck into workers' comp, obviously,
- 24:40Speaker 2: but you get a rebate coming back to you, which
- 24:43Speaker 2: is a pretty cool thing to get.
- 24:45Speaker 3: The rebate has been equivalent to the entire amount of
- 24:49Speaker 3: the premiums that you would have paid over the last
- 24:51Speaker 3: eight years. There's not one employer in Ohio, from the
- 24:54Speaker 3: biggest employers we have to the small mom and pop shops,
- 24:58Speaker 3: that didn't get more back than what they paid. So
- 25:02Speaker 3: they got this service for free. And it used to
- 25:05Speaker 3: be one of the top. expense items that you had
- 25:08Speaker 3: in a company. Workers' comp, years gone by, was a
- 25:11Speaker 3: real problem in Ohio. And now it's one of the best,
- 25:14Speaker 3: and it is the best in the country.
- 25:16Speaker 2: And for people that get into, oh, you know, they're
- 25:19Speaker 2: doing it for big business or employers. No, they're doing
- 25:21Speaker 2: it for all employers. You know what they're doing, Dave?
- 25:24Speaker 2: They're rebating some of your money back to you. the employer.
- 25:28Speaker 3: And we're concerned that if there's a change in the administration,
- 25:33Speaker 3: when's the last time the government has given money back
- 25:35Speaker 3: to you that you paid into a premium? When's the
- 25:38Speaker 3: last time an insurance, can you imagine an insurance company saying, well,
- 25:41Speaker 3: we did so well with our investments and we've done
- 25:44Speaker 3: enough reforms that we're going to give you back your premiums?
- 25:47Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 25:48Speaker 2: I'm going to answer your question with a question. You
- 25:50Speaker 2: asked me the question, when was the last time the
- 25:53Speaker 2: government has refunded a premium, right?
- 25:56Speaker 9: Right.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm going to answer your question.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Are you ready? Yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 2: When was the last time I picked up a dinner
- 26:02Speaker 2: bill when you were at the table?
- 26:07Speaker 3: Well, you know, the point of it is that John
- 26:12Speaker 3: Husted was the governor's point man on all these economic
- 26:15Speaker 3: development issues in Ohio. And again, what kind of guy
- 26:19Speaker 3: is John Husted? Here's a guy that was born as
- 26:23Speaker 3: an orphan. He's adopted by mom and dad in the
- 26:28Speaker 3: Dayton area. His dad worked in a factory. His mom
- 26:31Speaker 3: was a homemaker. The guy goes on and becomes a
- 26:35Speaker 3: great athlete, a football player, goes on. He was the
- 26:37Speaker 3: head of the industrial economic development for Dayton. That's how
- 26:41Speaker 3: he first got involved in politics. When he was in
- 26:44Speaker 3: the legislature, he rose up to become Speaker of the House.
- 26:49Speaker 3: He then becomes a lieutenant governor. and one of the
- 26:54Speaker 3: most successful governors. And again, there's Republicans that don't like
- 26:57Speaker 3: Mike DeWine. He's not perfect. I happen to think he's
- 27:01Speaker 3: been one of the best governors of my 40 years
- 27:05Speaker 3: of involvement.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Well, there's plenty of things I don't like about him.
- 27:08Speaker 2: And I'll just whisper one to you, okay? Because I've
- 27:11Speaker 2: disagreed with him on stuff. I disagree with him on
- 27:14Speaker 2: the Haitians, the problems we have in Springfield, Ohio, his
- 27:17Speaker 2: attitude with that. And I disagree with him on when
- 27:22Speaker 2: he said no sales tax for materials purchased by data centers.
- 27:26Speaker 2: So it didn't make sense to me. I'd have to
- 27:28Speaker 2: pay sales tax if I had it on my garage.
- 27:31Speaker 2: But a data center from some of the richest companies
- 27:33Speaker 2: in our country doesn't have to pay sales tax for
- 27:35Speaker 2: the lumber and materials.
- 27:37Speaker 3: I agree with you. That was wrong.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And I'm saying this. I just want to go on
- 27:41Speaker 2: the record. I am totally opposed. for any tax breaks
- 27:46Speaker 2: for data centers. I'm all for data centers coming. That's technology.
- 27:51Speaker 2: But as Houston has said, you must supply your own
- 27:55Speaker 2: power so you don't put it on the grid. And
- 27:58Speaker 2: you must tell us how much water you're going to
- 28:01Speaker 2: use and how you're going to make sure that that
- 28:03Speaker 2: water is clean when you return it to the system.
- 28:06Speaker 2: So I want to make sure there's no ecological impact.
- 28:10Speaker 2: If that's the case, I have no problem with you
- 28:13Speaker 2: building a data center, and there will be under no
- 28:16Speaker 2: circumstances any tax breaks at all. You build it. You
- 28:21Speaker 2: pay the full lot with property taxes. Because, David, if
- 28:24Speaker 2: all of a sudden this big building is paying property taxes,
- 28:27Speaker 2: guess what that does to my property taxes? It lowers mine.
- 28:31Speaker 3: It lowers them. Exactly. No, I'm with you 100%, and
- 28:34Speaker 3: Vivek is with you as well. That's his position.
- 28:38Speaker 2: So I'm not opposed to data centers. People that are
- 28:40Speaker 2: opposed to them need to think long and hard. This
- 28:43Speaker 2: technology is coming. You will use it and embrace it.
- 28:48Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, did you happen to see
- 28:49Speaker 2: where Houston said he thinks they should provide the electricity
- 28:53Speaker 2: on their own and it should be free for the
- 28:55Speaker 2: people in that area, that community?
- 28:58Speaker 3: Yeah, well, in some cases, they've negotiated agreements like that
- 29:01Speaker 3: in some states around the country. So it's not inconceivable
- 29:06Speaker 3: that a data center coming to a community could result
- 29:08Speaker 3: in people having dramatically lower costs. And that's the way
- 29:12Speaker 3: it should be. Right.
- 29:14Speaker 2: In other words, you potentially wouldn't have an electric bill,
- 29:18Speaker 2: and your property taxes would be less.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 29:21Speaker 2: And people are having... Let's have a moratorium against data centers.
- 29:24Speaker 2: You better think long and hard about it because they'll
- 29:26Speaker 2: go somewhere else. And, Dave, I just want to lay
- 29:28Speaker 2: this on you because I've learned a lot from you today.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I'm going to educate you, okay? Are you ready, David?
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yes, sir. I love listening to your program.
- 29:37Speaker 1: All right, here we go.
- 29:42Speaker 2: So with with these data centers we are the sweet
- 29:44Speaker 2: spot here in ohio we have the perfect weather because
- 29:47Speaker 2: we're not too hot we're not too cold for data
- 29:49Speaker 2: centers and we have the right transmission lines that are
- 29:53Speaker 2: necessary as well we don't need to do anything for
- 29:56Speaker 2: them they need us and and we're we are the
- 30:00Speaker 2: sweet spot we are the middle east of data centers
- 30:02Speaker 2: to locate here with our weather with our water supply
- 30:05Speaker 2: and with our transmission lines how about that dave Absolutely.
- 30:09Speaker 3: And I think not having data centers would be not
- 30:12Speaker 3: like not having the interstate highway in the 1950s. I mean,
- 30:16Speaker 3: this is whether we like it or not, and we're
- 30:18Speaker 3: all still learning more about it, but it is going
- 30:21Speaker 3: to be the future of the world's economy. And we've
- 30:24Speaker 3: got to be able to be on the cutting edge.
- 30:27Speaker 3: But there has to be guardrails.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Right, and get a piece of it. But I want
- 30:31Speaker 2: people to understand all the benefits that can come from it.
- 30:34Speaker 2: So if I hear a political ad say, this person
- 30:36Speaker 2: supports data centers, well, so do I, based on what
- 30:39Speaker 2: I just said to you. I'm not going to say
- 30:41Speaker 2: go locate somewhere else and we're behind the technological curve
- 30:45Speaker 2: of what is the future. And whether it's the construction
- 30:49Speaker 2: jobs and building them, whether it's the jobs to maintain them,
- 30:53Speaker 2: because there are workers and maintenance that needs to be done,
- 30:56Speaker 2: there is economic development as a result of them.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 31:00Speaker 2: And we don't have a horrible smokestack coming up, polluting
- 31:02Speaker 2: the environment and that kind of stuff. It's just something
- 31:04Speaker 2: to consider.
- 31:06Speaker 3: It's a clean industry. Talk about all the water that
- 31:09Speaker 3: they use are going to drain the water. They use
- 31:11Speaker 3: less water than an area golf course would use.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I mean, it's something we should embrace. But when you
- 31:20Speaker 2: talked about DeWine, those are some objections I had with DeWine,
- 31:23Speaker 2: this whole deal in Springfield and this whole deal going
- 31:26Speaker 2: on with that.
- 31:27Speaker 3: The Springfield deal goes back to, you know, DeWine lost
- 31:30Speaker 3: a daughter, was in an accident and was killed. And
- 31:35Speaker 3: as a humanitarian thing, the DeWines invested money in Haiti
- 31:39Speaker 3: as a humanitarian thing to create a school down there,
- 31:42Speaker 3: thinking it would be something that they could name after
- 31:44Speaker 3: their daughter. And they're just very much humanitarian people. And
- 31:49Speaker 3: I think that's the way he's looking. These poor folks
- 31:52Speaker 3: have come in to that town, and they needed employment there.
- 31:56Speaker 3: There were companies that were clamoring to get people to
- 31:59Speaker 3: work in their factories. And that was one of the
- 32:01Speaker 3: reasons that they brought them there. So there are members
- 32:04Speaker 3: of that community down there, I know some of them,
- 32:06Speaker 3: that have said it's been a good thing. And, of course,
- 32:08Speaker 3: there are others that say it isn't. But on balance,
- 32:12Speaker 3: DeWine and Husted have done one heck of a job
- 32:16Speaker 3: in this state. And that's in evidence by that survey
- 32:20Speaker 3: that they just took, naming us number one in the country.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Number one for what in the country?
- 32:26Speaker 3: For economic development, for infrastructure investment, for the bond ratings
- 32:31Speaker 3: that we have, the workers, they looked at every element
- 32:34Speaker 3: of what it takes to do business in a state.
- 32:37Speaker 3: And Ohio was ranked as number one in the country.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Well, that's refreshing.
- 32:42Speaker 3: I'll send it to you. It's a terrific report.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's refreshing. to hear that for a
- 32:48Speaker 2: change that that's going on in our great states. All right,
- 32:53Speaker 2: so Houston, he's under attack. He gets under a lot
- 32:58Speaker 2: of attack because of this deal with Edison and House
- 33:01Speaker 2: Bill 6. Comments about that?
- 33:03Speaker 3: Right. Well, look, in Ohio, the most powerful political interest
- 33:09Speaker 3: in this state, whether or not we like it or not,
- 33:12Speaker 3: is the utilities industry. And if you know anybody in Columbus,
- 33:17Speaker 3: on the right side or the left side, the Democrats
- 33:19Speaker 3: or the Republicans, the utility companies have bought both sides
- 33:24Speaker 3: of the aisle in terms of lobbyists. They've paid to
- 33:27Speaker 3: have the lobbyists. They're lobbying their interests. And you can't
- 33:31Speaker 3: very well even be in state government and not have
- 33:34Speaker 3: to rub up against these guys at one point or another.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Let me tell you. Well, let me tell you another
- 33:38Speaker 2: true story. Are you ready, David?
- 33:40Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 2: All right. When Mike Rooley was working, you know, in
- 33:44Speaker 2: the States and they came to Mike Rooley and they said, hey, listen,
- 33:48Speaker 2: this is what we want you to vote. Now we
- 33:50Speaker 2: want you to vote to these lobbyists.
- 33:53Speaker 3: And he stood up to him.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Well, let me finish. Dave, don't bring on my parade. Michael,
- 33:59Speaker 2: Michael Rooley is talking to him on the phone. He
- 34:02Speaker 2: told him, no, he said, I am not, I'm not
- 34:04Speaker 2: going to do that. And you know what they said
- 34:06Speaker 2: to him? They said, we will fund whoever runs against
- 34:09Speaker 2: you and you'll never win reelection. We'll fund them to,
- 34:13Speaker 2: to the, to the hilt to defeat you in, in
- 34:16Speaker 2: your reelection bid. And Michael Rooley, you know what he
- 34:18Speaker 2: said to them? Hey, I can't, I got a job. Yeah,
- 34:22Speaker 2: and I don't need this one based on the terms
- 34:25Speaker 2: you want to lay on me. So I'm going to
- 34:27Speaker 2: vote what's in the best interest of the people I
- 34:29Speaker 2: serve and my constituents that I have to answer to.
- 34:32Speaker 2: And if you want to threaten that you're going to
- 34:33Speaker 2: back my opponent, guess what? I still have a job
- 34:36Speaker 2: I can go to. So you know what? He gave
- 34:39Speaker 2: him this, Dave. You see what I'm showing up to
- 34:41Speaker 2: the microphone? He gave him this. And guess what? That
- 34:45Speaker 2: you've got to respect that, don't you?
- 34:47Speaker 3: Absolutely. Absolutely. That House Bill 6... was a bill that
- 34:52Speaker 3: I testified before the Ohio Senate and the House on
- 34:56Speaker 3: behalf of the Ohio Manufacturing Association. And just a little
- 35:00Speaker 3: summit bill tiles, that bill was going to end up
- 35:03Speaker 3: costing us like a couple hundred thousand dollars a year
- 35:06Speaker 3: more in utilities. And I was taught early on for
- 35:10Speaker 3: every $ 100, 000 I spend, you got to sell a million
- 35:14Speaker 3: dollars worth of tile to net that. So I was
- 35:17Speaker 3: looking at what's this going to cost our company? All
- 35:20Speaker 3: for the benefit of a public monopoly. These utilities, if
- 35:26Speaker 3: anyone gets elected, they need to be reined in. And
- 35:29Speaker 3: I've been urging that on Vivek to take a strong
- 35:32Speaker 3: look at them when he comes into office because they
- 35:35Speaker 3: do need reined in.
- 35:36Speaker 2: And don't forget, that guy down there went to jail,
- 35:40Speaker 2: the one powerful guy, they ended up convicting him. As
- 35:43Speaker 2: a matter of fact, David, he went to jail, and
- 35:45Speaker 2: I believe, I don't know if they've gone yet, but
- 35:48Speaker 2: the CEOs of First Energy and all that kind of stuff,
- 35:53Speaker 2: all lost their jobs and are facing criminal.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Absolutely, and one of them committed suicide. Randazzo was the
- 35:59Speaker 3: PUCO chairman at one point in time, committed suicide over this.
- 36:03Speaker 3: I mean, it's a nasty... a mess. And I think
- 36:08Speaker 3: Husted and the governor were trying to navigate their way
- 36:10Speaker 3: through it, but they have not done anything illegal. And
- 36:15Speaker 3: there's all these allegations, Husted did this and did that.
- 36:18Speaker 3: If he did, he would have been charged. Right.
- 36:21Speaker 10: Right.
- 36:22Speaker 2: So anyway, that's been dealt with. It's not a tarnishment
- 36:27Speaker 2: of all Republicans. By the way, speaking of Republicans, I
- 36:31Speaker 2: say this to you, Dave Thomas– not Dave Thomas. Well,
- 36:34Speaker 2: I'm going to talk about Dave Thomas to Dave Johnson.
- 36:37Speaker 2: In my 41 years– and listen and listen good, David.
- 36:40Speaker 2: In my 41 years, I have never seen a harder-working
- 36:43Speaker 2: state rep in my life than Dave Thomas. And, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 2: he was an auditor in Ashtabula County. And when he
- 36:50Speaker 2: was running, he looked at what the effect of property taxes,
- 36:53Speaker 2: what it had on his constituents, knew the only way
- 36:56Speaker 2: he could change it is if he ran for state rep.
- 36:59Speaker 2: That's the only way he could fix it. And that's
- 37:00Speaker 2: why he did it. His intentions of running were noble.
- 37:04Speaker 2: And then when he got there... He didn't just talk
- 37:07Speaker 2: the talk. He made massive changes that will benefit Democrats
- 37:11Speaker 2: and Republicans on their property taxes that a lot of
- 37:14Speaker 2: people don't know. The reevaluations just happened in Monning County.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Instead of getting a 20 or 30 percent increase, you'll
- 37:20Speaker 2: get an increase, but it would be based at the
- 37:22Speaker 2: rate of inflation. Substantially lower because of his efforts and
- 37:26Speaker 2: what he did. is what I'm saying. So what I'm
- 37:30Speaker 2: saying is, what are your thoughts of Dave Thomas? I mean,
- 37:33Speaker 2: you've known a lot of guys over the years, and
- 37:34Speaker 2: I know you like him.
- 37:35Speaker 3: I know Dave, and Dave is a very impressive young man.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Here's a guy that with basically no experience in the
- 37:41Speaker 3: legislature became the leading authority in the General Assembly on
- 37:46Speaker 3: this topic. Right.
- 37:48Speaker 2: But you know, Dave, he didn't just talk stuff. He
- 37:51Speaker 2: followed through.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Yep, absolutely.
- 37:54Speaker 2: I mean, so in my 41 years, and let's be realistic, Dave,
- 37:58Speaker 2: you've been around a little bit longer.
- 38:02Speaker 3: I think I got a few years on you. I
- 38:05Speaker 3: know my hair is a lot whiter than yours.
- 38:09Speaker 2: So anyway, when you look at this, David, I can't
- 38:12Speaker 2: think of anybody that's worked harder for the citizens of
- 38:15Speaker 2: Ohio than this guy has done. He's so damn impressive.
- 38:19Speaker 2: I mean, there's another thing I wanted to mention to
- 38:22Speaker 2: you with that being said. How impressive is this, Keith Faber? Now,
- 38:27Speaker 2: he's got the endorsement. I want you to think about this,
- 38:29Speaker 2: Dave Johnson. I believe it's 81 of 88 sheriffs in
- 38:34Speaker 2: the state of Ohio.
- 38:35Speaker 3: That's correct.
- 38:37Speaker 2: 81 of 88 sheriffs. These are Democrats and Republicans. To
- 38:41Speaker 2: carry 81 of 88 sheriffs to endorse somebody for attorney general.
- 38:48Speaker 3: No question about it. And by the way, he's the only...
- 38:52Speaker 3: candidate in this race, the only one that has stood
- 38:55Speaker 3: for a debate. He recently debated his opponent at Youngstown
- 38:59Speaker 3: State University. I attended that debate, and I watched him
- 39:03Speaker 3: eviscerate his opponent. Nice guy, but basically a lawyer that
- 39:10Speaker 3: represented millionaires and big corporations, and yet he's attacking the
- 39:14Speaker 3: rich and attacking big corporations. That's how he made his living.
- 39:20Speaker 2: But how impressive those favor. You don't get that type
- 39:24Speaker 2: of endorsements from Republicans and Democrat sheriffs if you're not
- 39:28Speaker 2: doing something damn right in the position you're in now
- 39:31Speaker 2: and you want to be attorney general. I mean, that
- 39:33Speaker 2: is impressive.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Very impressive guy, and he's working. They make a lot
- 39:37Speaker 3: of money as a state official. I think it's $ 180, 000
- 39:41Speaker 3: or something a year. But do you know what attorneys
- 39:43Speaker 3: are making? If he were in a law firm, he'd
- 39:45Speaker 3: be making triple that amount of money. But he believes
- 39:50Speaker 3: in public service.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Now, let me give you one other guy. I'm just
- 39:54Speaker 2: talking about impressive people.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Sure.
- 39:56Speaker 2: You thought you would call and get lost. No, you're
- 39:58Speaker 2: sticking around. I love it.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I love calling into your program.
- 40:01Speaker 2: So here's the next one. And I won't get into why,
- 40:06Speaker 2: you know, just for family purposes, we go to the
- 40:10Speaker 2: Western Reserve Military Cemetery in Ripman for our family and
- 40:16Speaker 2: the laying of the wreaths that go every year at
- 40:18Speaker 2: Christmas time.
- 40:19Speaker 4: Sure.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And it's a very moving event. And I want to
- 40:22Speaker 2: tell all of you, and it's extremely moving event, and
- 40:25Speaker 2: we will do it for the rest of my wife
- 40:27Speaker 2: and I, and our children will do it for the
- 40:30Speaker 2: rest of my life, and I'm sure their lives. We
- 40:33Speaker 2: owe it to our family members. But with that being said,
- 40:37Speaker 2: I have never seen a more impressive guy than Frank LaRose.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I mean, and he spoke there. I don't know if
- 40:46Speaker 2: it was last year or this past year or the
- 40:48Speaker 2: year before. And I'm going to tell you how impressed
- 40:51Speaker 2: I was standing there listening to him and his military
- 40:54Speaker 2: background and the service he did for this country. I mean,
- 40:57Speaker 2: he is an impressive human being.
- 41:01Speaker 3: No doubt about it. He's had tours of duty in
- 41:03Speaker 3: the Middle East, and he still is in the reserves.
- 41:06Speaker 3: He serves so many weeks a year in service to
- 41:10Speaker 3: this country. And I'm just proud as hell to see, really,
- 41:15Speaker 3: this whole slate. This is an impressive group of candidates,
- 41:19Speaker 3: as we have had in all the years that I've
- 41:21Speaker 3: been doing this.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Let me do my break. Sit tight.
- 41:24Speaker 11: Awesome.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Talking with old-timer Dave.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Johnson.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Back with Dave in a minute. Stay tuned. Signature cocktails
- 41:37Speaker 2: like the Smoked Old Fashioned, Dubious Chocolate Martini, and Mexican Manhattan.
- 41:42Speaker 8: Cheers to flavor.
- 41:45Speaker 2: From News Radio 570 WKBN, 3.56 in the afternoon, Ron
- 41:48Speaker 2: Verp from the Kingdom of Mahoning. with Dave Johnson from
- 41:51Speaker 2: the kingdom of Columbiana County on the end of my line. And,
- 41:55Speaker 2: I mean, they are impressive. Like I say, LaRose with his,
- 41:59Speaker 2: I mean, Green Beret military background, great, gave a short
- 42:02Speaker 2: but very moving speech. I mean, as a matter of fact, Dave,
- 42:06Speaker 2: I'm just going to tell you, after that I was
- 42:08Speaker 2: come back during the weekend. I always meant to call
- 42:11Speaker 2: him and tell him how great I thought his presentation
- 42:14Speaker 2: was and how much respect I had for him just
- 42:16Speaker 2: standing there.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a very impressive guy. There's no doubt about it.
- 42:20Speaker 3: And he's done a great job as Secretary of State
- 42:22Speaker 3: of Ohio these last eight years.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and then to hear that deal with Faber and
- 42:26Speaker 2: 81 out of 88 sheriffs endorsing this guy, I thought, wow,
- 42:29Speaker 2: that's really impressive. I talked about Dave Thomas and how
- 42:32Speaker 2: just impressive he is and all the stuff he has
- 42:34Speaker 2: accomplished and the reasons why he is running for state rep.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Because over the years, if I said this to you,
- 42:41Speaker 2: I have been disappointed by Republicans and Democrats saying, that
- 42:44Speaker 2: once they get elected, they forget about us. Once they
- 42:47Speaker 2: get your vote or your tax dollars, and it becomes
- 42:50Speaker 2: all about them and how important they think they are
- 42:52Speaker 2: or their job and benefits. And I'm sick of that.
- 42:56Speaker 2: I don't support that. I don't care what party you're with.
- 42:59Speaker 2: I expect more. Your comment, please.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Exactly. And you should. You should expect more. Can I
- 43:04Speaker 3: say something about the Seventh District Court of Appeals race?
- 43:08Speaker 3: Were you aware, you have Judge Hanai's running for election
- 43:11Speaker 3: and Judge Molly Johnson. Now, Molly's unopposed, but Hanai's running
- 43:16Speaker 3: for another six-year term. He's got two more years left
- 43:19Speaker 3: on his term. But he's running because he was the
- 43:23Speaker 3: judge that was the impetus in that court to take
- 43:26Speaker 3: it from last place in the state of Ohio on
- 43:30Speaker 3: backlog and on the efficiency of processing cases. They went
- 43:34Speaker 3: from last place to first place. And it was under
- 43:38Speaker 3: the leadership of Judge Hanai that this happened. And he's
- 43:43Speaker 3: trying to replace a judge there that currently, I won't
- 43:47Speaker 3: even mention her name, but there's a judge there that
- 43:50Speaker 3: lives in another state. She's been to three or four
- 43:54Speaker 3: hearings this past two-year cycle. Her chief law clerk lives
- 44:01Speaker 3: in Columbus. He's never even been to the courthouse in Youngstown.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Hold that thought.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:08Speaker 2: And I tell you what, you'll take some phone calls, too,
- 44:10Speaker 2: coming up, won't you?
- 44:11Speaker 3: Love to. Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:13Speaker 2: All right. With Dave Thomas, I'll talk more to him,
- 44:15Speaker 2: take more of your calls.
- 44:16Speaker 12: Celebrating 100 years as the Valley's trusted news, weather, and

- 44:36Speaker 13: run-up to the midterms.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Seven days from now, the people of Texas are going
- 44:40Speaker 4: to defeat Democrat, communist James Salafrico.
- 44:45Speaker 13: Tallarico is the Democrat running for U.S. Senate against State
- 44:48Speaker 13: Attorney General Ken Paxton. The president's in Corpus Christi right now,
- 44:52Speaker 13: later in Lubbock, where Tallarico also holds a rally. The
- 44:56Speaker 13: president's also trying to counter Democrat claims he doesn't care
- 44:59Speaker 13: about affordability and gas prices. insisting they will come down,
- 45:03Speaker 13: that it's been worth it to keep Iran from getting
- 45:05Speaker 13: a nuclear weapon. More than 31 million Americans have already
- 45:09Speaker 13: early voted, nine months after a man was killed during
- 45:12Speaker 13: a confrontation over immigration enforcement in Minnesota. His parents are
- 45:16Speaker 13: demanding more information from the government.
- 45:18Speaker 14: The family of Alex Preddy accusing the Department of Justice
- 45:22Speaker 14: of withholding information about his death. The anti-ICE activists shot
- 45:26Speaker 14: by federal agents and killed following encounters with ICE. In
- 45:29Speaker 14: Minneapolis in January, his mother Susan says the DOJ stopped
- 45:34Speaker 14: sharing info about its ongoing investigation.
- 45:36Speaker 15: We are here today to simply request that the federal government.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Treat us with dignity and respect.
- 45:45Speaker 8: That our son deserves.
- 45:47Speaker 14: The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has also filed a lawsuit

- 46:06Speaker 13: say Jacob Morley stole a truck from a farm about
- 46:09Speaker 13: two miles from the prison and that truck was found
- 46:12Speaker 13: abandoned today in Marion, Illinois. about 120 miles north of
- 46:16Speaker 13: the prison. But Morley remains on the run. Stocks finish higher.

- 47:40Speaker 2: Why, good afternoon. It is a glorious-looking Tuesday afternoon. It's
- 47:44Speaker 2: October 27th. Just a picture-perfect day out there. Sunshine, 68 degrees.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Hope you get a chance to enjoy some of it
- 47:52Speaker 2: as we go along here. Fall so far has been
- 47:54Speaker 2: just terrific in my neck of the woods. Ron Verp
- 47:56Speaker 2: from the Kingdom of Mahoning. Dave Johnson is down there
- 48:00Speaker 2: in the Kingdom of Columbiana County where he calls home.
- 48:05Speaker 2: As we go through this, you were talking about how
- 48:07Speaker 2: Hannah really has really turned that court around.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no doubt about it. If you talk to
- 48:13Speaker 3: the other judges, they'll admit to this. Mark came in
- 48:18Speaker 3: like a bulldog and said, for example, they used to
- 48:21Speaker 3: have a whole month in that district court where they
- 48:23Speaker 3: called it the reading month. He said, well, we're not
- 48:26Speaker 3: going to do that anymore. We're going to read on
- 48:28Speaker 3: our own in our own time. We're going to spend
- 48:30Speaker 3: every month and every day getting this backlog of cases
- 48:34Speaker 3: that we have caught up. And so they went, again,
- 48:37Speaker 3: I think there's 11 or 12 districts in the state
- 48:40Speaker 3: of Ohio. We were consistently either 12th or 11th worst
- 48:46Speaker 3: district in the state. And in two years' time, Judge
- 48:51Speaker 3: Hanai got that. He took the initiative. The other judges
- 48:54Speaker 3: came along. They're doing a good job as well, but
- 48:56Speaker 3: the exception of one of them. My grievance is with
- 49:01Speaker 3: this one judge, and I've known her over the years.
- 49:03Speaker 3: She's a nice person. But how does anybody except a
- 49:07Speaker 3: judge who's being paid 180, almost $ 200, 000 a year living
- 49:09Speaker 3: in another state and using this BS, the COVID, you know,
- 49:11Speaker 3: that we. went through, everyone's going to work from home.
- 49:22Speaker 18: That's bull.
- 49:24Speaker 3: And then to have her chief legal counsel who's making
- 49:26Speaker 3: $ 100, 000 a year, again, he's a competent guy. I know
- 49:30Speaker 3: him as well. But he lives in Columbus. Judge Hanna,
- 49:34Speaker 3: I said he's never even met this person in that courthouse.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Well, how can you function if you're in that position
- 49:42Speaker 2: if you don't.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Go to work?
- 49:43Speaker 3: Well, you can't. You can't. And we need a watchdog
- 49:47Speaker 3: like Judge Hanai to continue on in that court as
- 49:52Speaker 3: it gets cleaned up.
- 49:53Speaker 2: So basically, true or false, he said the courthouse, these
- 49:58Speaker 2: offices have to be open. People have to be here, correct?
- 50:01Speaker 3: Exactly. Exactly. And he should call in sometime and tell
- 50:06Speaker 3: you what happened in that courthouse. That's how I got
- 50:09Speaker 3: involved in his campaign. I didn't really know Mark all
- 50:12Speaker 3: that well, and he came down to see me one day,
- 50:14Speaker 3: and he said, here's what's going on in this courtroom.
- 50:17Speaker 3: And he said, can you help me? Can you help
- 50:19Speaker 3: me be introduced to other county chairmen? This is a
- 50:23Speaker 3: big district. They go all the way down. I think
- 50:26Speaker 3: it's nine counties or maybe 11 counties in the 7th
- 50:29Speaker 3: District Court of Appeals. And so Mark has made an
- 50:32Speaker 3: effort to go down throughout this entire district and share
- 50:36Speaker 3: with everybody what's going on. And it's one of these
- 50:40Speaker 3: things that it's the whole reason I got involved in politics.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but basically you had people collecting a paycheck and
- 50:47Speaker 2: not showing up and not being very productive.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Agree?
- 50:50Speaker 3: Exactly. And not being accountable to the taxpayers.
- 50:56Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 50:57Speaker 3: So that's another office that needs looked at. And Hanai
- 51:02Speaker 3: is deserving of another six-year term. We need them in
- 51:05Speaker 3: that courtroom. Yeah.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's campaigning hard. He's got a lot of stuff
- 51:11Speaker 2: going on. Certainly, I mean, that's like you say, a
- 51:13Speaker 2: big district for him here. I mean, it's very interesting.
- 51:17Speaker 2: Let me take some calls. Now, I'm going to ask
- 51:20Speaker 2: you again to just talk because we're starting a new
- 51:25Speaker 2: hour from 3 o'clock. I just want you to talk
- 51:28Speaker 2: at the beginning of this hour. what your concerns is
- 51:31Speaker 2: about people that are going to go vote for Amy Acton.
- 51:34Speaker 2: And you expressed them at the beginning of the program.
- 51:36Speaker 2: I'd like you to reiterate those for people to join
- 51:38Speaker 2: us at 4 o'clock. This is Dave Johnson.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Absolutely. I think we've all been fixated on this ad
- 51:44Speaker 3: that was put out there about Amy's mother calling her
- 51:47Speaker 3: a liar and so forth. And it turns out there's
- 51:49Speaker 3: more to that story than meets the eye. And that's
- 51:52Speaker 3: kind of coloring everybody's opinion about this race. But if
- 51:55Speaker 3: you look a little deeper... And do we really want
- 51:59Speaker 3: to hire somebody to be the chief executive of this state,
- 52:03Speaker 3: which is a $ 50 billion corporation, is what we are.
- 52:07Speaker 3: That's the annual budget of this state. Do you want
- 52:10Speaker 3: to hire somebody that has never held a job in
- 52:13Speaker 3: any particular position for more than two years at a time?
- 52:17Speaker 3: Somebody that was basically relieved or fired would be the word,
- 52:21Speaker 3: but relieved from her position as director of health during
- 52:25Speaker 3: this whole COVID fiasco in Ohio where they were shutting
- 52:29Speaker 3: down schools and shutting down businesses based on what she
- 52:32Speaker 3: said rather than what the science was saying. Do we
- 52:36Speaker 3: want somebody that frankly has a drug and alcohol problem
- 52:41Speaker 3: to the point that her own daughter's Two different daughters
- 52:45Speaker 3: on two different occasions calling 911 to the police in Bexley, Ohio, saying,
- 52:51Speaker 3: Mom's drinking again. She's breaking things. She's throwing things. Somebody
- 52:57Speaker 3: please come to the house before somebody gets hurt, in
- 53:01Speaker 3: so many words. There's a public record of it. I
- 53:04Speaker 3: urge people, if you don't believe me, there's a public
- 53:07Speaker 3: record request that you can make of Bexley police, and
- 53:10Speaker 3: they'll give you the transcript. These are her daughters that
- 53:13Speaker 3: are saying this. She says she's a doctor. She touts
- 53:18Speaker 3: this Dr. Amy Acton. She's this celebrated doctor in Ohio.
- 53:24Speaker 3: She never took a residency. She never practiced medicine. She's
- 53:29Speaker 3: not a physician. She's went to medical school and has
- 53:33Speaker 3: held positions, administrative positions, not even as an acting doctor.
- 53:39Speaker 3: medical professional. These have been all administrative positions that she's had,
- 53:44Speaker 3: none of which she held for more than two years
- 53:46Speaker 3: at any given time. So she's really, I look at
- 53:51Speaker 3: her as sort of a Manchurian candidate that will not debate.
- 53:56Speaker 3: She will not take questions. Even at her own rallies,
- 53:59Speaker 3: she has her people come up to the mic and say,
- 54:02Speaker 3: if you have a video or you have audio equipment
- 54:07Speaker 3: with you, we are not permitting that at this hearing,
- 54:11Speaker 3: at this presentation. And these are her own rallies. So,
- 54:15Speaker 3: I mean, what's she trying to hide here? And then
- 54:18Speaker 3: her record is that she's going to turn things around,
- 54:21Speaker 3: that things are so terrible in Ohio. And I sort
- 54:24Speaker 3: of walked through recently where Ohio was ranked number one
- 54:27Speaker 3: in the nation on economic development and jobs creation and
- 54:32Speaker 3: the overall business climate compared to every other state in
- 54:36Speaker 3: the country. And this is a ranking that was done
- 54:39Speaker 3: by CNBC. That's not some right-wing group. It's... So, and
- 54:46Speaker 3: then you look at where are we on income tax.
- 54:49Speaker 3: We're the lowest personal income tax rate at the current
- 54:52Speaker 3: time that we've had since the tax was adopted back
- 54:55Speaker 3: in 1972. It's a 2.75, a flat tax rate. So
- 54:57Speaker 3: everybody pays the same. At the same time, we've eliminated
- 55:07Speaker 3: the estate tax in Ohio, and especially affecting small family
- 55:11Speaker 3: businesses and small family farms that want to pass the
- 55:15Speaker 3: business on to the next generation. Is that such a
- 55:19Speaker 3: terrible thing? Amy met with the Farm Bureau in Ohio,
- 55:23Speaker 3: and they point-blank asked her, will you preserve this estate
- 55:28Speaker 3: tax waiver that's been in place since Kasich? and she
- 55:33Speaker 3: refused to commit to that. I talked a little bit
- 55:39Speaker 3: about the Bureau of Workers' Compensation and an area that
- 55:42Speaker 3: John Husted worked closely with the governor.
- 55:45Speaker 5: On, and that's bringing about reforms.
- 55:47Speaker 3: In that agency that produced $ 10. 2 billion of rebates back
- 55:53Speaker 3: to Ohio's employers, large and small, public and private, Every subdivision,
- 56:00Speaker 3: every township, every city in the state.
- 56:03Speaker 5: Of Ohio got thousands of dollars to millions of.
- 56:07Speaker 3: Dollars, depending on the size that they are. I think
- 56:09Speaker 3: the largest in the state went to Columbus, Ohio. I
- 56:13Speaker 3: think they got somewhere around $ 13 or $ 14 million back
- 56:17Speaker 3: this year alone. Can you imagine what project you could
- 56:21Speaker 3: undertake with that? And so if you add up the
- 56:25Speaker 3: last eight years, workers' compensation in the state of Ohio
- 56:29Speaker 3: has been free to Ohio's employers. So what's Amy going
- 56:34Speaker 3: to fix? What's so terrible that she's going to come walking.
- 56:38Speaker 5: In here with somebody with.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Zero administrative and executive experience and going to walk in
- 56:44Speaker 3: and all of a sudden take over a $ 50 billion
- 56:47Speaker 3: corporation with zero experience, zero transparency about what she wants
- 56:52Speaker 3: to do, She's mentioned that she has picked out a number,
- 56:58Speaker 3: $ 26 billion increase in the income tax. That would be
- 57:04Speaker 3: a doubling of the current income tax rate in the
- 57:07Speaker 3: state of Ohio. And that affects, again, we all say, well,
- 57:13Speaker 3: let's get the rich. Well, you know, it isn't just
- 57:16Speaker 3: the rich. If you look at who's paying the taxes,
- 57:19Speaker 3: if you took the top 1% and just took all
- 57:22Speaker 3: their money, Don't just raise taxes on it.
- 57:25Speaker 19: Take it all.
- 57:26Speaker 3: You'd have enough to operate the government for probably six months,
- 57:30Speaker 3: and they'd all be broke and out of business, and
- 57:32Speaker 3: every enterprise and the thousands of millions of people that
- 57:35Speaker 3: they employ would be out of a job. But this
- 57:39Speaker 3: idea of get the rich, it sounds good, but it's
- 57:45Speaker 3: not a credible policy idea. for creating jobs and building
- 57:49Speaker 3: strong communities and having a solid tax base that can
- 57:53Speaker 3: support our schools and can support our communities. I find
- 57:58Speaker 3: it incredible that the liberals of this ilk, Amy Acton included,
- 58:05Speaker 3: are all in favor of defunding police. There's a reason
- 58:10Speaker 3: that the police departments in this state and the county
- 58:12Speaker 3: sheriffs across Ohio have all endorsed the Republicans. They're scared
- 58:16Speaker 3: to death that we're going to actually defund the police.
- 58:22Speaker 3: We're going to give amnesty to all these illegal aliens
- 58:25Speaker 3: so they can create havoc and at the same time
- 58:29Speaker 3: defund the police to protect us from this. Makes no
- 58:32Speaker 3: sense to me. So that's what we're up against.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Have you seen this up-and-comer that is running for the Senate,
- 58:42Speaker 2: this fresh, new, young face, this guy Sherrod Brown, who's
- 58:47Speaker 2: running these ads like he's never run before in everything
- 58:50Speaker 2: that he's going to do and all this kind of jazz?
- 58:53Speaker 2: I think... I think he's deceiving people because this is
- 58:57Speaker 2: the same Sherrod Brown that supported every single thing Biden
- 59:01Speaker 2: stood for. The open border. I mean, I listened to a...
- 59:07Speaker 2: Hear me out, Dave Johnson. I listened to a... democrat
- 59:10Speaker 2: party that hates me why do i say that because
- 59:14Speaker 2: you know what during this tenure i heard from him
- 59:18Speaker 2: if i'm white i'm a white supremacist if i did
- 59:21Speaker 2: anything in my life it's because i have white privilege
- 59:25Speaker 2: I listen to this nonsense of how they degrade me
- 59:28Speaker 2: because of my skin color. I often look at them
- 59:31Speaker 2: as the biggest racist because it was they who said,
- 59:35Speaker 2: guess what? Unless you're female and black, you're not going
- 59:37Speaker 2: to get on a Supreme Court with this appointment. So
- 59:40Speaker 2: you're eliminating everyone else based on their sexuality and their
- 59:42Speaker 2: skin color. You're not looking for the best and the brightest.
- 59:46Speaker 2: I find that very troubling. So Sherrod Brown's there all
- 59:49Speaker 2: along on this kind of stuff. He supported the open border.
- 59:53Speaker 2: He supports basically the vilification of ICE and the glorification
- 59:58Speaker 2: of these criminals that are in our country illegally and
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: some violent criminals that are here as well. He supported
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: all of this nonsense.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: He supports sanctuary cities. Yes. He supports amnesty for illegals.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: He's a flaming left-wing liberal that's trying to run like
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: he's a moderate. And I mean a flaming left-wing liberal.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: And he's got a lot of these unions all duped
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: that he's for the working man. Well, if you let
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: everybody in here illegally, they're going to lower the working
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: man's wages.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Some of them see through that, but that's why he
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: got beat two years ago. He got beat by a no-name.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Bernie Marino had never run for office before. And all
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: the polling showed that Bernie Marino was going to get
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: beat by Sherrod Brown right up until the day of
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: the election. He was six, seven, eight points below in
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: the polls, which almost suppresses the Republican vote. It said, look,
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: you might as well not vote. You're going to lose.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: And yet when the votes came in, guess who won?
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Bernie Marino by, I think it was three and a
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: half or four points. It wasn't even close. And he
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: repudiated this Sherrod Brown, who's been in office for 50 years.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: My God, the guy's 75 years old. Do we need
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: another octogenarian in the Congress? I say that on both sides.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: I saw Mitch McConnell.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: Should have been retired out of that assembly, out.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: Of the Senate 10 years ago.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: We saw with Dianne Feinstein, Mitch McConnell, so many of
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: them that are just, it's like you can't even function.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: You're just a figurehead. I mean, I don't care if
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: they're Democrats or Republicans. You got to go at some point. Hey,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: let me tell you, and I'm going to take calls
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: coming up here. I just want to bounce one more
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: thing off you. You know who really impresses me, Dave Johnson?
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: You know who really impresses me?
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: Who's that?
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: You ever talk to Pleschnik, the commissioner out in Lake County?
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Commissioner Noe?
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: I have.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: I have talked to him. He's a very interesting guy.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: Of course, he has a passion for this reform of
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: our property taxes.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: Passionate guy. Listen to this, David. And I want you
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: to think about this, because I feel, like I say
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: to everybody, I'm intimidated talking to him. University of Akron graduate.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: He graduated Duke Law School. He's a Duke Law School lawyer.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: You follow me? From Duke Law School. He's a college professor.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: He's a tax lawyer. And he's a commissioner. And they
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: call him Commissioner No because he says no. No to
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: property taxes. No to this stuff. And yet they get
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: it done anyway in Lake County. They build a jail
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: where they said they had to pass an additional tax
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: to do it. And he did it without doing any
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: of that. I'm telling you, this is an impressive guy
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: that should go far in the state of Ohio. He
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: is very intelligent, very good guy.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I'd love to see it.
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: You know who he reminds me of? You remember, this
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: is going way back.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: You and I have been around a while.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: But you remember Howard.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Jarvis out in California, Proposition 13? Yes. They had the
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: same kind of battle out there on property taxes that
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: were basically taxing.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: People out of their homes.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: And he led that crusade. He was a big, rough,
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: and tumble guy like Pleschnik. And I love John. I'd
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: love to see John in the General Assembly. That's where
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: he ought to be.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: I'd love to see John in any of those upper positions.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: You need the Pleschniks for governor. You need the Pleschniks
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: in any of these upper positions. And quite frankly, since
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: I got your ear, you need Dave Thomas in those
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: upper positions as well.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Absolutely. He's a bright young guy. And again, to be
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: in the leadership position, like in his first term in
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: the General Assembly, I mean, usually it takes three or
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: four years to even find your way around to where
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: the bathroom is. And here's a guy leading the way
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: in one of the most important public policy issues of
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: our day, and that's property tax reform. It's taxing people
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: out of their homes.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Absolutely. It's a huge problem. All right, so I'm going
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: to do my break, folks, and then I'm going to
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: come back and take phone calls. You've been patient and waiting.
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: Awesome.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: He's here. You're a little shy today, aren't you, Dave?
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Well, I'm all fired up. I was on a talk
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: radio this morning down in Belmont County, and I had
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: so many people calling me, and I thought, I'm.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Going to call Ron.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: Thank you for having me.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: You want to be on real talk radio, and you are.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Hang on. Back with Dave in a minute. I'm checking
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: in with Bob Dieter, Dieter Heating and Cooling. He services
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: all makes and all models. And, of course, if you've
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: got a boiler, he's the only guy you want to call.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: He is just terrific when it comes to dealing with
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: those issues. He installs Rheem, the new degree of comfort. Bob,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 1:04:46Speaker 20: Oh, we just finished another install. It was a 98%
- 1:04:50Speaker 20: furnace with a high-efficiency air conditioner. So quite an upgrade
- 1:04:53Speaker 20: for those folks. Anyways, we have efficiencies through 98% on
- 1:04:58Speaker 20: our furnaces, efficiencies through 20 SEER on our high-efficiency air
- 1:05:03Speaker 20: conditioning and heat pumps. Our mini splits go all the
- 1:05:06Speaker 20: way to 33 SEER efficiency. And so we have solutions
- 1:05:10Speaker 20: for all of your problems. And I can be found
- 1:05:13Speaker 20: in Canfield at 330 533-4363. It's 533-4363. And on the web, DieterTheHeater.com.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: He services all makes and all models. Great reputation. Bob Dieter,
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: Dieter Heating and Cooling.
- 1:05:31Speaker 21: Hi, I'm Dawn Zinnihani.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: All right, it's Ron Verb with Dave Johnson on the
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: end of the line. Are you ready, David?
- 1:05:41Speaker 20: I sure am.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: All right, hang on. On one of these lines is DeFabio.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I've got to find him, but let me see. With
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Dave Johnson, you're on the air.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Hello, Ron. Yes.
- 1:05:56Speaker 19: Dave, Ron, it's nice to hear you on the radio.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: You recognize this voice, Dave? One of my guys that
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: I love to death, former Youngstown Mayor George McKelvey. who
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: I always say this, and I want you to hear this,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Dave Johnson, and McKelvey gets tired of me telling this story.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: He would sit in his studio when he was mayor.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: People would call in with a complaint. He wrote it
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: down on a legal pad, and then during the breaks,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: before cell phones, he'd come over to my studio phone,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: made a call, and said, take care of this pothole
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: or take care of this. He tried solving problems when
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: he was on the air because these people weren't voters
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: to him. They were customers to him. You follow me?
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Exactly. That was George McKelvey, and he's a Democrat I
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: would have voted for every day, all day.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:06:37Speaker 19: That's kind of you. You know, Ron, Dave was talking
- 1:06:41Speaker 19: about the data center issue. And as a mayor, I
- 1:06:45Speaker 19: would support data centers 100 percent with the legislature having
- 1:06:51Speaker 19: the power to create guardrails on the water usage, on
- 1:06:56Speaker 19: the electrical, on the taxes not being abated, et cetera,
- 1:06:59Speaker 19: et cetera, to stand against them and to make them
- 1:07:03Speaker 19: a boogeyman as the many have done it would be
- 1:07:07Speaker 19: comparable to in the nineteen hundred eight up against United
- 1:07:13Speaker 19: States steel or I or one of those companies locating
- 1:07:17Speaker 19: in Youngstown it it's insanity exactly I be it just
- 1:07:24Speaker 19: it's ridiculous and they've made the boogeyman other data center
- 1:07:28Speaker 19: square data centers are the future and as long as
- 1:07:32Speaker 19: the legislative body have the power to create guardrails to
- 1:07:37Speaker 19: protect the community and to protect the taxpayers, they'll be wonderful.
- 1:07:42Speaker 19: I mean, it's just, I can't get over what they've done.
- 1:07:45Speaker 19: I just can't get over it.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: And it's a totally clean industry, too. Yeah. No pollution.
- 1:07:53Speaker 19: Absolutely. It's, well, needless to say, Dave, it's... It's sad
- 1:07:59Speaker 19: what they've done with them, how they've tried to create
- 1:08:02Speaker 19: them as the worst thing that could happen to a community,
- 1:08:06Speaker 19: when if you do it right, it's going to be
- 1:08:08Speaker 19: the best thing that happens to a community.
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: That's all I can say about it.
- 1:08:13Speaker 19: And it's good to hear your voice. So, Rod, I've
- 1:08:16Speaker 19: known Dave a long, long time. He's a great, great guy.
- 1:08:20Speaker 19: Just wonderful.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Thank you, George.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: And you know what? I've known George a long, long time,
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: and he's a great, great guy.
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: You bet he is.
- 1:08:29Speaker 19: I wish I had a restaurant like Dave Johnson. Then
- 1:08:32Speaker 19: I'd be doing real well.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Thank you, George.
- 1:08:37Speaker 19: That's the best restaurant in Ohio, Ron.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: No question about it.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Thank you, Mayor.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Thank you, George.
- 1:08:44Speaker 19: Nice listening to both of you.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: God bless you.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: God bless you.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: George McKay, I've got to get a world of respect
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: for all that guy did. He truly didn't view you
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: as a voter. He did view you as a customer,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: and he was a public servant. You follow me?
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: I mean it's no doubt and he has such deep
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: roots in youngstown his family go back generations and they
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: were civic leaders and and business leaders in youngstown a
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: hundred years ago so he's a great public servant yeah.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: You're on the air with dave johnson.
- 1:09:11Speaker 20: Hello mr verb yes How are you?
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: I'm with Dave Johnson. I'm looking for Gino.
- 1:09:19Speaker 22: But as you said, it's the tax abatements for these AIs.
- 1:09:24Speaker 22: It's the tax abatements. I want AIs too, but I
- 1:09:27Speaker 22: want them to pay their fair share of taxes.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I think we're in agreement there, are we not, David?
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: I'm in total agreement with you. I think early on,
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: they made mistakes in granting tax abatements because they were
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: trying to bring, they wanted to be on the cutting
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: edge of bringing data centers to Ohio, and tax abatements
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: is something that is often used in economic development, whether
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: we like it or not.
- 1:09:50Speaker 22: They hold the states hostage when they talk about these
- 1:09:53Speaker 22: tax abatements. It's been going on for the last 20,
- 1:09:57Speaker 22: 30 years.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: We're in a total agreement on that for a change.
- 1:10:03Speaker 22: All right. And so we're going to talk about Amy Acton.
- 1:10:09Speaker 19: A little bit here.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: All right. Sure.
- 1:10:11Speaker 22: Amy Acton completed a pediatrics residency and practiced in child
- 1:10:18Speaker 22: health before moving into public health leadership. According to her
- 1:10:23Speaker 22: official biography and multiple credible sources, After earning her doctorate
- 1:10:30Speaker 22: of medicine degree.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Hold that thought. Wait a second.
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: Hold that thought.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Hold that thought. Hold that thought, caller.
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: Hold on.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: I'm going to come back to you. I promise you.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Back with your call and Dave Johnson right after this.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Radio 570 WKVS.
- 1:10:47Speaker 23: Power Solutions, a company that designs and manufactures electrical distribution equipment,
- 1:10:53Speaker 23: is planning to invest $ 3 million in a new office
- 1:10:56Speaker 23: on Nationwide Boulevard in downtown Columbus. They plan to build
- 1:11:00Speaker 23: a 90,000 square foot office that will add 85 jobs
- 1:11:04Speaker 23: and generate over $ 12 million in annual payroll. Meantime, the
- 1:11:08Speaker 23: Springfield City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Robert Hill, has been named
- 1:11:12Speaker 23: the 2027 Ohio Superintendent of the Year by the Buckeye
- 1:11:17Speaker 23: Association of School Administrators. He has continually worked to improve
- 1:11:21Speaker 23: student attendance and achievement since taking over the district in 2015.
- 1:11:25Speaker 23: Hill will represent Ohio in the National Superintendent of the
- 1:11:29Speaker 23: Year competition. In a sports update, Ohio State is back
- 1:11:32Speaker 23: in action after the bye week this week. They'll be
- 1:11:34Speaker 23: at USC on Saturday at 7.30.
- 1:11:38Speaker 8: I'm Daniel Barnard.

- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Never sounded so good.
- 1:11:48Speaker 8: A to Z dependable services. Plumbing, septic, heating, cooling, and
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: one-day baths.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: Verb. On NewsRadio 570.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: WKBN.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: Back with Dave Johnson on this line. And go ahead.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: You're talking about Amy Acton-Caller.
- 1:12:07Speaker 22: Amy Arkin, again, I'm going to say, completed a pediatrics residency.
- 1:12:14Speaker 22: Her first clinical assignment was a pediatrics residency focused on
- 1:12:20Speaker 22: addressing the severe health impacts of the crack cocaine epidemic
- 1:12:26Speaker 22: on children. She then completed a second residency at Children's
- 1:12:31Speaker 22: Hospital and Ohio State University, where she also created the
- 1:12:37Speaker 22: first ever residency rotation in child advocacy. This training and
- 1:12:45Speaker 22: work directly involved her in clinical care for children and
- 1:12:51Speaker 22: in developing programs.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: What year was that?
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: What year was the residency?
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: You know, if you're a resident....
- 1:13:23Speaker 22: Of maternal and child health at Ohio State.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Does it bother you she's not a practicing doctor? Okay,
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: do you want to listen at all? I realize you
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: want to read me this stuff.
- 1:13:34Speaker 22: Well, I want to read it because You don't have
- 1:13:39Speaker 22: your facts straight, Mr. Johnson.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: No, I don't think you have your facts straight, and
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: I've been waiting for you to.
- 1:13:46Speaker 22: that she did not have a residency.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: All right, listen, listen.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: I will present the facts when I get them. I'll
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: send them over to Ron. You're reading from her bio
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: on her website.
- 1:13:59Speaker 22: And we want to bump this up a little bit.
- 1:14:02Speaker 22: Let's get to Pete Kedsworth and see how long he
- 1:14:07Speaker 22: holds on to that job. Somebody that was a.
- 1:14:13Speaker 22: Person that was on Fox News as a whatever.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: All right, we're not here to talk about that. All right, thanks.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: Just respond to him. He's all over this.
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: All I can say is that I will produce her
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: true record of what she really did in the medical field,
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: and she was not a practicing physician. She's held administrative positions.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: She's done studies. She's done all, but not a practicing
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: medical doctor. And that's why the Ohio Medical Association came
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: out and endorsed the vague. So, I mean, it's just
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: plain and simple. Even if she was a doctor for
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: a short period of time, does that qualify you to
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: run a $ 50 billion corporation? That's why we wanted her
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: to debate. I would love to have heard her answer
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: this question. and be subjected to cross-examinations of questioners, not
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: even from the candidate, but from objective sources saying, tell
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: us about your background that qualifies you to be governor
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: of Ohio.
- 1:15:16Speaker 19: That's all.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: There you go. All right. You're on the air with
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Dave Johnson.
- 1:15:21Speaker 10: Hi there.
- 1:15:23Speaker 24: I'm glad I got Dave. I've never met you, but
- 1:15:25Speaker 24: I heard a lot of good things about you. Two
- 1:15:27Speaker 24: questions for Dave. First question would be, Do you believe
- 1:15:32Speaker 24: these polls? Because they're stressing a lot.
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: Of us out.
- 1:15:37Speaker 24: And if so, why do you think it's happening?
- 1:15:39Speaker 19: And I'll let you go to that one first.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: I mentioned earlier in this conversation that these polls all
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: across the country have underrepresented. I didn't state this earlier.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: I said the polls are wrong, but I'll tell you
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: how they've been wrong. They have underrepresented Republican expressions of
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: support out there, and we're not sure quite why. Some
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: of it's on purpose, and I think some of it
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: is that just Republicans don't answer polls for whatever reason.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: And in the last gubernatorial race, Governor DeWine, who was
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: running against Richard Cordray, who was a very impressive candidate.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: He was a guy that was qualified, could have been
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: a good Democrat governor had he been elected. He was
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: leading DeWine right up until the day of the election.
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: And on the night of the election, the DeWine camp
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: thought they lost the race because of all this polling
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: data that had come out. And it ended up he
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: won it. You know, it wasn't a huge victory, but
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: it was substantial. So same with Bernie Marino. When he
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: ran against Sherrod Brown in the last election cycle, he
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: was losing in every poll. There wasn't one poll that
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: showed he was going to win. And what happened on
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: election day? He won. And in his case, he won
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: by like four percentage points.
- 1:16:57Speaker 24: Now, here's my other, I heard you mention, and I
- 1:16:59Speaker 24: too read that Ohio was very favorable with business, ranked
- 1:17:04Speaker 24: number one, which is really good for us.
- 1:17:08Speaker 19: And I love that.
- 1:17:10Speaker 24: But my question is, how do we do better? Because
- 1:17:14Speaker 24: I don't want us to be ranked number one in business,
- 1:17:16Speaker 24: but then number 14th in business. most heavily burdened in
- 1:17:22Speaker 24: taxes in the country. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:17:25Speaker 24: It should be more comparable. And that's my area of contention.
- 1:17:29Speaker 24: And I'm not blaming the Republicans for that. I'm just,
- 1:17:33Speaker 24: that's an area of contention.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Well, it takes years and years of reform You know,
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: we started in Ohio, one of the first reforms in
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: tax reform was started back under Kasich, but was eliminating
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: the tangible personal property tax. Most people don't even know
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: what the heck that is, but it was essentially a
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: tax on inventory that affected the competitiveness of manufacturing companies
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: in Ohio. So Republicans led the initiative to eliminate that
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: particular tax. Then came the estate tax, also under Kasich.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: He eliminated the estate tax. Didn't cut it back, eliminated it,
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: which was a very good thing for small family companies
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: and small family farms that wanted to lead their family
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: business on to the next generation. And then more recently
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: has been a series. It wasn't just one tax cut,
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: but over the last eight years, the Republicans, led by
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: Governor DeWine and John Hustedt, brought the tax rate all
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: the way down from 7.5% down to 2.75%. One of
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: the lowest tax rates in the country. The next step
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: we have to take, and you're quite right, we're still
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: overburdened by taxes. The fake is the one talking about
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: reforming property taxes. And that's what's got to happen.
- 1:18:54Speaker 24: Yep, absolutely. I agree with that. Well, thank you for
- 1:18:56Speaker 24: your time. I appreciate it.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: What about my time?
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: Awesome, thank you.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: What about my time?
- 1:19:00Speaker 19: Ron.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: Ron.
- 1:19:01Speaker 25: Yeah.
- 1:19:01Speaker 19: Gotta go.
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: Gotta go.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Well, no one thanks me for my time. It's just
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Dave Johnson's on. Well, Dave, thank you for your time.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: You're on the air with Dave Johnson.
- 1:19:11Speaker 26: Hello, Ron?
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Ron?
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:19:17Speaker 26: I want to talk to you a little bit about
- 1:19:19Speaker 26: Amy Acton, why she is... There's no way she has
- 1:19:23Speaker 26: a shot because when COVID was going on, she shut
- 1:19:27Speaker 26: down every dental office in the state of Ohio for
- 1:19:29Speaker 26: three months. Physicians were declared basically non-essential services and only
- 1:19:33Speaker 26: emergencies were prepared. Do you think a doctor and his
- 1:19:36Speaker 26: wife or a dentist's wife is going to.
- 1:19:38Speaker 20: Vote for Amy Acton?
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: No way.
- 1:19:40Speaker 19: The polls are a joke.
- 1:19:42Speaker 26: Don't even believe the polls, but show up to vote
- 1:19:44Speaker 26: because every vote counts.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: Amen to that.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Amen to that.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Sir, I couldn't help but notice on your call, it
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: seems like you've got a little tartar on your front
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: teeth there. Just kidding, okay?
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: Thanks for your call.
- 1:20:01Speaker 19: Yeah, Dave, and you know what also is disturbing?
- 1:20:03Speaker 26: All this money being spent on these eight and a
- 1:20:05Speaker 26: half by 11 sheets.
- 1:20:07Speaker 19: Of colored, heavy-duty paper.
- 1:20:10Speaker 26: Do you realize all the money that they're pissing away
- 1:20:13Speaker 26: that could be spent for the public good?
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: Absolutely. That's for veterans. it's a shame what these elections cost.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: It's just, and the money that's coming in from out
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: of state, the millions and millions of dollars coming in
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: from California, from Illinois, from New York state, trying to
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: influence the outcome of our vote here in Ohio.
- 1:20:37Speaker 19: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: So are you done? Yep.
- 1:20:41Speaker 19: I'm done, Ron.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Go get them.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: Dave Johnson.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Hey, David, how are you?
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: It's Gino.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: Hey, Gino, how are you? Good. Good, sir.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Who else can call you other than Madonna with a
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: first name and you know who they are? It's Gino.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: We all know. Hi, Gino.
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: That's right.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: He recognizes his voice right off the bat.
- 1:21:04Speaker 10: And yours as well, sir. You know, I've been trying
- 1:21:08Speaker 10: to stay out. Not stay out, but I've got a lot.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: We've got a lot.
- 1:21:11Speaker 10: Going on in the county. I haven't been much into
- 1:21:12Speaker 10: the selection.
- 1:21:14Speaker 19: But a couple of points. One on Amy Acton. When
- 1:21:17Speaker 19: Governor DeWine was on every.
- 1:21:19Speaker 10: Day at 2 o'clock with his updates and Amy Atkin
- 1:21:21Speaker 10: came out, there was one particular time when she was
- 1:21:24Speaker 10: shutting down. I forget what it was. Maybe it was
- 1:21:26Speaker 10: funerals or the nursing homes. And she came out all smiles. Now,
- 1:21:32Speaker 10: this woman has the power in her pen of signing
- 1:21:35Speaker 10: to destroy people's lives. They cut off weddings and everything else.
- 1:21:40Speaker 10: And she literally said, the governor's given me the honor
- 1:21:43Speaker 10: of doing this today.
- 1:21:44Speaker 19: It's not an honor, Amy.
- 1:21:45Speaker 10: You're shutting down a state, number one. Then she said,
- 1:21:48Speaker 10: I'm going to do it like he does with four
- 1:21:49Speaker 10: different pens so I could pass them out when I'm done.
- 1:21:52Speaker 10: She had such glee in her eye when she was
- 1:21:56Speaker 10: effing over the people of Ohio, and that's what she wanted.
- 1:22:00Speaker 10: I mean, she got more joy out of that than
- 1:22:03Speaker 10: anything else, and that tells you something about her.
- 1:22:06Speaker 19: She's about her. She's not about people. I mean, Dave,
- 1:22:09Speaker 19: it was disgusting. I remembered it.
- 1:22:12Speaker 10: I remember seeing it when I was home, and I
- 1:22:14Speaker 10: went back and I found it, and I saw it again,
- 1:22:17Speaker 10: and I says, this is not somebody who I want
- 1:22:19Speaker 10: in the governor's chair, who is so much about the
- 1:22:22Speaker 10: pomp and circumstance, and look what I could do. Look,
- 1:22:24Speaker 10: with a pen, look what I could do. Well, what
- 1:22:26Speaker 10: the hell else would she do to Ohio? And I'll
- 1:22:30Speaker 10: tell you this, Dave. We've gone back and forth on
- 1:22:32Speaker 10: the governor a few times because we've had some disagreements
- 1:22:35Speaker 10: over him. But every time Maloney County has reached out
- 1:22:38Speaker 10: to the governor, he stepped up immediately. Carving out the
- 1:22:43Speaker 10: lake to river as the seventh entity for the Jobs Ohio.
- 1:22:50Speaker 10: We wouldn't have YBI downtown. We wouldn't have YBI downtown. Ron,
- 1:22:54Speaker 10: have you ever toured that place?
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Years and years ago.
- 1:22:58Speaker 10: Well, you ought to see it now, what they're doing
- 1:23:00Speaker 10: down there. And I got to say, I got to
- 1:23:02Speaker 10: hats off to the governor. He's the one that put
- 1:23:05Speaker 10: that together. Him and Barb Ewing is doing a great job.
- 1:23:08Speaker 9: But we wouldn't.
- 1:23:09Speaker 10: Have had that if the governor hadn't have said, you
- 1:23:11Speaker 10: know what, we're going to take Mahoning, Ashtabula, Columbiana, and.
- 1:23:16Speaker 19: Who else is in that?
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: Trumbull.
- 1:23:17Speaker 19: Trumbull. We're going to take them out with Cleveland.
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:23:20Speaker 19: So we could get our fair share. Exactly right. And
- 1:23:23Speaker 19: we don't have to sell that. We have. We absolutely have.
- 1:23:26Speaker 10: That was the governor and John Husted that did that. Now,
- 1:23:30Speaker 10: a little bit about Sherrod Brown. I've been in office
- 1:23:33Speaker 10: two years. I plan on running again. And I'm going
- 1:23:35Speaker 10: to run on my record and what I've done and
- 1:23:37Speaker 10: what I want to do. Sherrod Brown has had 50
- 1:23:40Speaker 10: years of a record. And you won't see one accomplishment
- 1:23:45Speaker 10: he made. He won't say how he helped Biden open
- 1:23:49Speaker 10: the borders. or how he pushed for the illegals and
- 1:23:53Speaker 10: whatever else to come across our border. You won't hear
- 1:23:57Speaker 10: him say how he was a champion of men and
- 1:23:58Speaker 10: women's sports. That's his record.
- 1:24:01Speaker 19: Run on your record, for God's sakes.
- 1:24:03Speaker 10: You have a record. And another thing, Dave, you talked
- 1:24:08Speaker 10: about data centers. You know who the biggest advocate, really,
- 1:24:11Speaker 10: the biggest lobby for data centers are in the state
- 1:24:13Speaker 10: of Ohio?
- 1:24:13Speaker 9: You know who they are?
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: Who?
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: It's the trades.
- 1:24:19Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:24:19Speaker 10: Because when they build these things, they get three years
- 1:24:23Speaker 10: of steady work. And, Ron, I'm friends with a lot
- 1:24:26Speaker 10: of guys, the West Reserve Trade Council. And I'm telling you,
- 1:24:30Speaker 10: I don't understand. You have Brown out there demonizing Husted
- 1:24:38Speaker 10: over his support for data centers and what he did
- 1:24:41Speaker 10: for them.
- 1:24:42Speaker 19: And then they're.
- 1:24:44Speaker 10: Supporting Sherrod Brown. And he's poisoning the public to data centers.
- 1:24:49Speaker 10: It just doesn't make sense.
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: It's technology, Gino. It's the future. It is. You know, Houston,
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: as we were talking earlier, Gino, said first you've got
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: to power it. You can't go on our grid and
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: increase our electric prices. You've got to show us how
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: much water you're going to use and make sure it's
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: clean when it gets pumped back in. But outside of that...
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: It's something everybody's going to use, and it can lower
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: my property taxes by shifting a lot of the burden
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: of the data center.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: Exactly. It's a critical investment for the whole future of
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: our economy here in Ohio.
- 1:25:23Speaker 10: It is, and I don't want anybody poisoning for a campaign,
- 1:25:25Speaker 10: poisoning people's thoughts on those.
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: That's what's happening.
- 1:25:29Speaker 19: It has happened.
- 1:25:30Speaker 10: Now, we as commissioners, there's nothing that comes to us
- 1:25:33Speaker 10: over data centers. There hasn't been, and I don't.
- 1:25:35Speaker 19: Foresee it coming.
- 1:25:37Speaker 10: But if it's done right, I've talked to mayors, local mayors, Ron,
- 1:25:41Speaker 10: and others that were data centers have come in, and
- 1:25:44Speaker 10: they said they would pay for every kid to go
- 1:25:46Speaker 10: to college. They said we have to, you know, Ohio's prime. Well,
- 1:25:51Speaker 10: if we got a tool in the toolbox, I say
- 1:25:53Speaker 10: we use it, and I'll piggyback on what both of
- 1:25:56Speaker 10: you guys said and what George McKelvey said.
- 1:25:58Speaker 19: Put guardrails on it.
- 1:25:59Speaker 27: Right.
- 1:26:00Speaker 19: Put guardrails on it and make it work for us.
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: You know, the.
- 1:26:04Speaker 19: We have to do that. And that's.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Exactly what Vivek is calling for. He's calling for the guardrails.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: He's calling for guidelines. We've got to have them, but
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: they've got to be here on our terms.
- 1:26:20Speaker 10: Absolutely, because we have the hammer. Trafka used to always say,
- 1:26:24Speaker 10: when you have the hammer, you win. Whoever brings the
- 1:26:26Speaker 10: hammer to a fight, we've got a hammer. They want
- 1:26:29Speaker 10: to be here. And like I said, I don't want
- 1:26:33Speaker 10: our electricity costs to go up.
- 1:26:34Speaker 19: Who would want that? I don't want all our.
- 1:26:36Speaker 10: Water to disappear. But there's a lot of infrastructure that
- 1:26:40Speaker 10: still has to be done. If we can negotiate with
- 1:26:42Speaker 10: these places and have them pay for some of that,
- 1:26:45Speaker 10: they evidently want to be here. We just got to
- 1:26:49Speaker 10: do it right, and we can do it right with
- 1:26:51Speaker 10: the right person in charge, and that person wouldn't be
- 1:26:53Speaker 10: Amy Acton or Sherrod Brown.
- 1:26:56Speaker 9: Absolutely.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: How could you reach that conclusion, Gino?
- 1:27:02Speaker 19: Oh, well, geez.
- 1:27:04Speaker 10: I can say more, Ron, but I'm not going to.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: There's some deep thinking right there.
- 1:27:08Speaker 19: Hey, listen.
- 1:27:10Speaker 10: I backed Bernie Moreno when Moreno came in, and Bernie said,
- 1:27:13Speaker 10: if I could win Mahoney County, I win Ohio. In fact,
- 1:27:17Speaker 10: he said it on the steps down at the Spread Eagle.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: I think that's still the case today. I think to
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: win this election, this is ground zero. This is a
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: critical area right here in this community. And you cannot
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: vote for these people that are frauds, in my opinion.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: She won't debate Vivek. She's got a questionable work record.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: I mean, she's not a doctor like you would think
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: she's a doctor. She's not like a Dr. Jill Biden, right, Dave?
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: That was questionable.
- 1:27:56Speaker 10: And I'll tell you what, when I was running, I
- 1:27:58Speaker 10: ran two campaigns. I got in front of every camera.
- 1:28:01Speaker 10: I answered every question. I wanted questions. I wanted people
- 1:28:04Speaker 10: to know where I stood because I believe that I
- 1:28:06Speaker 10: could win people if I talked to them. She can't
- 1:28:09Speaker 10: win an argument. Evidently, she can't represent herself where she
- 1:28:13Speaker 10: knows she can win. So I'd have to say she's
- 1:28:15Speaker 10: hiding like Biden.
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: I started out this morning. on a talk radio program
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: down in Belmont County, trying to reach out to Appalachia
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: in the southern part of this state, and now to
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: have the opportunity to be on the Ron Verb Show
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: and take calls, because you said it, Ron, as Youngstown
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: and the greater Mahoning Valley, Mahoning, Trumbull, Appalachia, and Columbiana County,
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: as this region goes, so goes Ohio. And as Ohio goes,
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: so goes the country. We may be able to save
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: the Senate by winning this race with John Husted.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Amen. Gino, you got more? Thanks, Gino. Gino, thank you.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: Thank you, guys. I'm Dr.
- 1:29:07Speaker 15: Cheryl Figliano from Centers for Hearing Care. If you or
- 1:29:11Speaker 15: a loved one has difficulty hearing, you need to know
- 1:29:14Speaker 15: the ear is the road to the heart. When we
- 1:29:16Speaker 15: lose our hearing, we lose touch with family and friends.
- 1:29:18Speaker 15: Don't put off getting help. Our doctors of audiology have
- 1:29:21Speaker 15: a culture of caring and white-clip treatment. We've been solving
- 1:29:24Speaker 15: our community's hearing issues for over 34 years. For the
- 1:29:28Speaker 15: best doctors of audiology, the right equipment, and great results,
- 1:29:32Speaker 15: call our Boardman office, 330-726-3339.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: For 50 years weather and talk station 570 wkbn.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: 456 on a tuesday afternoon news radio 570 wkbn gorgeous
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: outside 66 degrees dave johnson uh joining us since three
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: o'clock with a few minutes remaining uh uh let's see
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: ronda sanis i love the guy don't you dave Absolutely.
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: We're going to miss him in Florida.
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: Oh, he's wonderful. He'd make a great president. There's no
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: doubt in my mind.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: Yes, he would.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: All right. I can't get Vivek on because of equal time.
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: Just as a side note on that.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: I understand he texted me and wanted to come out
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: of the program, but I understand you can't do it
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: with equal time provisions. Right.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: So that kind of puts a no-go on that. But anyway,
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: Dave Johnson, anything else you got to say in conclusion?
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: I have, what, a minute and 40 seconds.
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: I can't thank you enough, Ron. I've had such respect
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: for you for being the voice of this valley.
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: And I just urge the voters of this area to
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: think long and hard about.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: The future of this state.
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: The last election, when Bernie Marino.
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: Defeated Sherrod Brown, he did it by a mere 23
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: votes per precinct. That was the difference in winning or
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: losing in the state of Ohio. So my message is
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Republicans and independents that care about the future of this state,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: get to the polls and vote. You've got between now
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: and next Tuesday to vote. You can vote in person. Today,
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: I think, was the last day for requesting a ballot.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: And if you got a ballot by mail, you've got
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: to either deliver it or make sure it gets to
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: the Board of Elections by November 3rd.
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: And but we've got our whole.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Future at stake in this country like never before. Amen.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: And that's why I called in.
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: Dave, I love your passion.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: You know that. God bless you. Thank you, Ron.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: Thank you for your time, David. Appreciate it.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: From the kingdom of Columbiana, that's Dave Johnson, Republican chairman
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: on NewsRadio 570 WKBN and Ron Ferb. We're here tonight
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: till six o'clock. Sean Hannity at six on his gorgeous day. 330-729-9977. Interesting.
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: I love his passion. Love what he puts forth there.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: Got a lot of love and respect for Dave Johnson.
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: Back right after this.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: Stay with us.
- 1:32:03Speaker 28: For 36 years, Chris Becker has dedicated his career to
- 1:32:06Speaker 28: the law. With 26 years serving Trumbull County, named Ohio's
- 1:32:09Speaker 28: Assistant Prosecutor of the Year, Becker has tried more cases
- 1:32:12Speaker 28: in Trumbull County than any other attorney over the past
- 1:32:15Speaker 28: 26 years. The Trumbull County Bar Association named Chris Becker
- 1:32:19Speaker 28: its preferred candidate for Common Pleas Judge. Now running as
- 1:32:22Speaker 28: an independent, Chris Becker brings proven courtroom experience and a
- 1:32:25Speaker 28: lifetime commitment to our community.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: I'm Chris Becker, and I would appreciate your vote.
- 1:32:29Speaker 28: Paid for by Chris Becker for Judge, Adrian Viviano, Treasurer.
- 1:32:33Speaker 12: Since 1973, that's... Celebrating 100 years as the Valley's trusted news, weather,
- 1:32:40Speaker 12: and talk station, 570 WKBN, Youngstown.
- 1:32:50Speaker 13: One week to go on Lisa Brady, Fox News. So
- 1:32:53Speaker 13: President Trump is back in Texas, his fourth trip to
- 1:32:56Speaker 13: the state ahead of the midterms, with a Senate race
- 1:32:59Speaker 13: between State Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democrat James Tallarico,
- 1:33:02Speaker 13: a dead heat in Fox polling.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: He's never going to love meat, and he's never going
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: to love oil and gas, and he's never going to
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: love your Second Amendment, and he's never going to love
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: your children the way you do. It's a different kind
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: of love. You can't put this guy, you can't have
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: a vote like that. It's too close.
- 1:33:19Speaker 13: The president calls him James Talafrico, just holding a rally
- 1:33:22Speaker 13: in Corpus Christi before heading to Lubbock, where Talarico will
- 1:33:25Speaker 13: also hold an event as he criticizes Trump policies.
- 1:33:29Speaker 9: Texas voted to lower grocery prices, but corrupt tariffs are
- 1:33:33Speaker 9: raising prices at the checkout line.
- 1:33:36Speaker 13: The vice president focusing on another state with a critical
- 1:33:39Speaker 13: Senate race.
- 1:33:39Speaker 14: Vice President J.D. Vance in Howell, Michigan, asking voters.
- 1:33:43Speaker 25: Are we going to stand with the fighters who are
- 1:33:46Speaker 25: going to stand with us? Are we going to stand
- 1:33:52Speaker 25: with people who believe in America?
- 1:33:54Speaker 14: The GOP Get Out the Vote rally, one of about
- 1:33:56Speaker 14: 30 midterm visits by the Vice President and President Trump
- 1:34:00Speaker 14: to push Republicans across the finish line in big contests,
- 1:34:04Speaker 14: including for U.S. Senate, where Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul
- 1:34:07Speaker 14: El-Sayed are locked in a tight race, as Michigan Democrats
- 1:34:11Speaker 14: also hope to capitalize on voter sentiment. over the economy
- 1:34:14Speaker 14: and the war in Iran in the battle for control
- 1:34:17Speaker 14: of Congress.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Fox's Jeff Manasso.
- 1:34:19Speaker 13: More than 31 million Americans have already early voted. Three
- 1:34:23Speaker 13: brothers convicted of sex trafficking just sentenced in New York
- 1:34:26Speaker 13: to 30 years in prison each. Federal prosecutors say Tal
- 1:34:30Speaker 13: Oren and Alon Alexander drugged and raped at least 70 women,
- 1:34:34Speaker 13: exploiting their wealth and access to luxury real estate to
- 1:34:37Speaker 13: commit the crimes. The brothers still deny it, insisting during
- 1:34:40Speaker 13: today's sentencing hearing that they never broke the law. America

- 1:34:52Speaker 3: They walk among us.
- 1:34:53Speaker 27: Behind the iconic horror classics that keep you up at

- 1:35:55Speaker 1: Now, Ron Verb on NewsRadio 570 WKBN.
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: Back to it, NewsRadio 570 WKBN. Welcome, one and all.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: All right, Dave Johnson for the first couple of hours. Gosh,
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: the passion that he has. You can tell he cares
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: so much about what's going on. Very impressive, very impressive.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: And you almost get tired of hearing it's one of
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: the most important elections. All elections are important. You should
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: vote in all of them. I think in our society,
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: you have a duty to be an informed voter. You
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: have a duty to be an informed voter. And years ago,
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: if I go back years ago, I hate to say
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: I've been around a long time, but I've been around
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: a long time. And I remember when I was much younger,
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: and I'm going back 50 years or whatever, and people
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: would call me and they would say, you're going to
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: reach a time, Ron, when there's more people on the
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: dole and they're going to control the political narrative in
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: the elections because they're going to be in it for
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: what's in it for them. And it's going to almost
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: be an attack on productive people and things. And son
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: of a gun if we're not there. And this is
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: long before that happened. I mean, you have half the
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: people not paying taxes, federal taxes. So you got half
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: the country that's actually paying, keeping things afloat. The other half,
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: they're not. And in many cases, when tax day comes,
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: they get, it's like winning a lottery. They get a
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: big check and they didn't even pay in. It's the
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: craziest damn thing that you'll see.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: Comments, 330-729-9977.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: I have three lines in Youngstown open as we open
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: our phone lines till 6 tonight.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: 330-729-9977. 330-729-9977.
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: We'll get you through to us on News Radio 570 WKBN. So,
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: pick up the phone. Give us a call. We want
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: to hear from you.
- 1:37:51Speaker 8: And....
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: I enjoy listening to Dave. As I say to you
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: numerous times, I cannot vote and I will not vote
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: for Amy Acton or Sherrod Brown. I don't believe in
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: what their party stands for or what they stand for.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: Ohio is a giant business to be run in vivacous.
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: the best person to run that business. She genuinely doesn't
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: really have any qualifications to set her in line to
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: even take over the state of Ohio. It's very troubling
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: to me. It's very troubling to me. As I've said
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: to you numerous times, I want the best for all
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: of you. Listen, whether we agree or disagree, I'm not
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: your enemy. But by nature of being in a catbird seat,
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: we just got to study this stuff and understand this stuff.
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: And by virtue of living history and being around, you
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: know what works and what doesn't work? Socialism doesn't work.
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: I hear ads and I get tired of the lies
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: that I hear about, oh, John Houston cutting Medicaid from
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: a lot of people. And I say to myself, but
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: you're leaving out the whole story. Those additional Medicaid supplements
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: were for five years, put in for five years as
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: a temporary thing by the Democrats when they were in charge.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: They didn't make them forever. They said it's for five
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: years and then they'll end. And when they ended, all
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: of a sudden, John Houston, a Republican, is somehow evil.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: It doesn't make a lick of sense to me. It's
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: just not truthful. But they figure you're a dummy and
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: you'll buy into it. And a lot of people do.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: You'll just accept it. And that's the way it'll be.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: You agree? And that's where we are today. I mean,
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: Sherrod Brown, I've been around the time that he's, what
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: is he, 75 years old? I mean, good God, come on.
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: For a six-year term? I'm just on, it's on, it's
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: all unreal to me.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: You're on the air. I will see you. Good luck. Hello.
- 1:40:38Speaker 21: You're on the air.
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:40:41Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:40:45Speaker 19: I think Mr.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: Johnson is doing a great job at YSU as the president.
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: That's Dave Johnson, the party chairman in Columbiana County, not
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: Bill Johnson.
- 1:40:53Speaker 9: Oh, that Johnson.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: Yes, yes, Bill Johnson. Do you remember when Bill Johnson
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: took over YSU, how all the protests and he was
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: going to destroy the university? Guess what? None of that happened,
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: did it? They all hated him because of his politics,
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: and yet he's running a university competently. Did any of
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: these people ever come back and go, boy, all of
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: our opposition to him and all the things we said,
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: we were dead-ass wrong. We should probably apologize to Bill Johnson.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: They never did.
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: And Ed O'Neill never come back and said he was
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: sorry for taking back his $ 100, 000 a year that he
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: sends into the program. And he said because of Mr. Johnson's,
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: we'll say his politics. But, you know, he never come
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: back and said, no, I was wrong. The guy's doing
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: a great job.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:41:41Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: No.
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: Well, for that Johnson that's there, tell him, Ronnie, tell
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: him about when the former senator was in power.
- 1:41:51Speaker 22: Right.
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: Three of the biggest plants in his valley shut down
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: under his watch.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: And what did he do, Ronnie?
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: But I say this to.
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: Everybody, and I say this to you. Don't give these
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: people more power than they have. General Motors decided to
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: close down Lordstown for various reasons. Really, it had nothing
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: to do with Tim Ryan or Sherrod Brown. They just
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: happened to be in office at that particular time. The
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: companies make these decisions to move, and a lot of
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: times people are saying politicians do all this stuff or
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: cause all this stuff, and they don't have much to
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: do with it at all. They really genuinely don't. All right,
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: so in the Republican and Democrat's defense, That doesn't cut
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: it with me.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: No, me either.
- 1:42:37Speaker 9: It doesn't cut it with me.
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: And that's all those people that once held great paying
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: jobs in that.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Valley, in the valley.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: Those jobs are now finita.
- 1:42:45Speaker 5: They're gone.
- 1:42:45Speaker 19: They're never going to come back again.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: Right, but you had General Motors said, we're not going
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: to make the cruise anymore. I mean, I bought two
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: of them. I bought a couple of them. As a
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: matter of fact, I still have them. And they were
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: great cars. But as the marketplace changed from cars to
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: SUVs and trucks and their sales went down and they
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: went from three shifts down to two and down to
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: one and they couldn't sustain a plan on one, there
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: were many problems that were explained to me from an
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: internal standpoint and none of them had anything to do
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: with politics.
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: And the Democrat regime that was in there, they do
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: anything to bring anything back to the Valley worthwhile.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: Well, listen, contrary to what people say, Kimberly Clark's coming here.
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: We got the TJ Maxx warehouse. We got a lot
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: of data centers that want to come here. We just
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: got to get some of the local politicians that are
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: opposed to data centers to get on board to support them.
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: Sometimes we cut our own throats.
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: I'll go along with.
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: The data, Senator Ronnie. Unlike they did at the race,
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: they all gave them a 15-year abatement, and that thing
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: makes about $ 7 million a month over there.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: Absolutely. No abatements. No abatements. I don't want any abatements
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: for anybody. If you want to come here, zero abatements.
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: I'm tired of people skipping out. Zero abatements. I'm against
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: any politician that grants any abatements for anything. So I've
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: had enough.
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: And when... When the mayor was there, the former mayor
- 1:44:16Speaker 4: that was on with you, and it was me, him,
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: and Mr. Rivers, and a guy from the water department
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: who won the WKBN four-man scramble at no run, and
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: the mayor, just like he was in office, he made
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: that one putt on the last hole for a birdie,
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: and we won the tournament.
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: George McKelvey was just a, I mean, just had the
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: right attitude. George McKelvey said, these are my customers, I'm
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: going to serve them, and I'm going to, if you've
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: got a problem, I'm going to try to assist and
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: make things better. And that was his mentality, and that's
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: what he did.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: And he did a great job while he was mayor.
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: Yes, he did.
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: I agree.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: You're on the air.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: Hi, Ron.
- 1:45:04Speaker 5: Hi.
- 1:45:05Speaker 21: Two key points. We've got to realize we're in an
- 1:45:08Speaker 21: age of austerity now. How that affects everybody is this.
- 1:45:12Speaker 21: You talked about the voters, the takers that are coming around. Yeah,
- 1:45:16Speaker 21: just voting for Democratic because they can get more. Well,
- 1:45:19Speaker 21: on the state level, they need to have the discussion
- 1:45:21Speaker 21: how to wean back benefits so people are compelled to
- 1:45:25Speaker 21: get a job. Make it easy. Give them benefits if
- 1:45:27Speaker 21: they need to for a specific length of time until
- 1:45:30Speaker 21: they get benefits for their job. But make them work.
- 1:45:34Speaker 21: If they start working, they won't revoke Republicans. The other thing,
- 1:45:39Speaker 21: we talk about, you know, come back property taxes and
- 1:45:41Speaker 21: maybe get rid of the income tax, you know, like
- 1:45:43Speaker 21: other states have done. We have to also enter into
- 1:45:47Speaker 21: discussion things like consolidation of schools. You know, the growth, what?
- 1:45:51Speaker 21: It was on the books since 97. Nothing's been really
- 1:45:55Speaker 21: done to address school financing and expenditures. Point is... If
- 1:46:02Speaker 21: they do like West Virginia, Pennsylvania, consolidate a lot of
- 1:46:05Speaker 21: the local school districts in order to save. I'm sure
- 1:46:08Speaker 21: on the state level, that would be hundreds of millions,
- 1:46:10Speaker 21: if not billions saved on an annual level. Therefore, we
- 1:46:14Speaker 21: have money to give back to the taxpayers.
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: I'm trying to think. It seems to me that there's
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: a superintendent that I'm somewhat impressed with. And there's a
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: number of reasons. I just can't think of them right
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: now as I watched over a period of time. Frankly,
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: it's the superintendent of Jackson Milton Schools. I mean, how
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: the guy's running that operation and what he's doing for taxpayers,
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: I think is extremely impressive. I have to, I mean,
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: I've just watched it over the years, just what he does.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: And I find him somewhat refreshing from a superintendent standpoint.
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: But when you're saying, government's got to realize there isn't
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: a lot more money out there. And people got to
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: realize two things. Let me lay this on you. People
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: have to realize things aren't free. Okay. I mean, it's
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: not free. And that's why I tell everybody, do not
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: save your property tax dollars for your police, fire, and
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: road departments. Those are the services that are most vital
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: to you. Do not, I will not vote for the
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: MRDD levy. I'll tell you again, they got so much money,
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: it's ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous how much money they have.
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: And to put a tax burden on you that they're
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: asking you to do, you should have your head examined. Absolutely.
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: As I told you in the past, the library's got
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: more money than it knows what to do with from
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: their property tax, and WRTA has more money than it
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: knows what to do with from the sales tax they
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: get every year. The biggest problem those two entities have
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: is figuring out how to spend all this money each year,
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: the library and the WRTA. Do not make the MRDD
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: another one of those that has more money than they
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: know what to do with, and you have less. I
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: sit here and I tell you all and I will
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: tell you this to you, that your compassionate government is
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: not going to be so compassionate when if you're a
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: senior citizen and one of you die and you can't
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: pay your property taxes and stay in your house, they're
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: going to tell you, get the hell out of here.
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: out and if you and if both of you are
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: working and have good jobs and ai replaces one of
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: you so now only one of you is working and
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: the other person can't find a decent paying job because
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: of ai guess what your compassionate government's going to do
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: they're going to tell you to get the hell out
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: of your house So I'm trying to prevent that from
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: happening for you. Don't put more burden on your property taxes.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: Support your police, fire, and your road departments. Save. That's
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: where you might have to make sacrifices. Everything else, say no.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: Put it on the state to step up and deal
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: with these issues. Would you agree?
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: I agree.
- 1:49:00Speaker 21: We're in an age of austerity. The government has to
- 1:49:04Speaker 21: accept it, too. Everybody's got to cut.
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: Right, but we have to be smart about it in
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: the following sense. And frankly, I'm going to tell all
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: of you, I enjoy talking to this guy. And here's why.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Because I can say to him, I agree with you
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: when it comes to austerity. But one thing is for certain.
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: We need enough cops to respond to crime. You follow me?
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: And problems. We need enough firefighters to come and put
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: your house out if it's on fire. And we need
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: ambulances to show up if you got a.
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: Medical emergency. So there's some areas where we can't have austerity.
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: We've got to have enough guys to deal with your
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: road department. Those are services that you can't really cut.
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: You've got to make sure they're efficient, but you have
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: enough people to deal with it. Now, the rest of
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: these organizations, the school system's out of control, MRDD's out
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: of control, all of this stuff. I agree with you
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: on that sense.
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 1:50:06Speaker 21: Well, Yeah, I live on a farm in Appalachia, and
- 1:50:10Speaker 21: I agree in principle with your saying, but a lot
- 1:50:11Speaker 21: of that we take care of ourselves.
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: But it don't work that way, and you know it
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: don't work that way.
- 1:50:17Speaker 21: Well, the volunteer fire department came around to me asking
- 1:50:21Speaker 21: for money. I said, hey, if I please, Burns, can
- 1:50:23Speaker 21: you help me out? Your driveway's too inaccessible. We can't,
- 1:50:26Speaker 21: we won't, yeah, there's nothing we can do for you.
- 1:50:29Speaker 21: I'm not going to donate to them.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: I'm sorry, guys.
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: Okay, but here's the reality. You can't have a volunteer
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: fire department in Austintown and in Boardman. I mean, in
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: many cases, they're responding out where you have volunteer fire
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: departments faster than the volunteers can get there. Volunteer fire
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: departments are hard to operate these days because so many
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: people don't work that close and can't get there in
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: time and respond to the calls. It's just, it looks
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: good on paper, but it's not realistic. Right.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: That's very true.
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: And is it worth your life or your wife's life?
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: I mean, there are reasons why we have fire departments,
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: and there are reasons why we have ambulances and cops.
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: I mean, you can't take things into my own hands. No,
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: you need a cop, somebody that has the sworn duty
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: and authority to deal with these problems.
- 1:51:25Speaker 21: Well, that's just a tradeoff you make for living in.
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: The country, honestly.
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: There you go.
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: Nothing wrong with that. Country's a good place to be.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: All right. Thank you. That's all I ask people to
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: give consideration to. That's why I say to you, and
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: I'm sincere, I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican,
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: do not, do not vote for any of these additional
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: levies outside of police, fire, and that kind of stuff.
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: I am genuinely concerned for each and every one of you.
- 1:51:56Speaker 2: And I'm saying it to you again. I see it
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: on a regular basis. I get emails to people on
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: Social Security. They're making it happen. One of them dies,
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: their household income's cut in half, and it is a
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: case of how do I stay in the house that
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: I've been in all my life where I want to die?
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: And the answer is you're taxed out of your own home.
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: This is utter insanity when this kind of stuff happens.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: What is my property taxes? 400-something dollars a month. So
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: do I own my home?
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: No.
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: Now, I understand a lot of that's I don't object
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: to what goes to my police departments or my fire
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: department and ambulances or my road departments. The rest of it,
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: I'm tapping the brakes on all of that because I
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: see the waste. I mean, WRTA has got to figure
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: out how do we spend all this money every year.
- 1:52:55Speaker 28: I'm Dr.
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: Radio 570 WKBN.
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: Welcome, welcome, welcome. 525 News Radio 570 WKBN. 330-729-9977 if
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: you want to get through to us.
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: 330-729-9977.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: I always use that example, and I use that example
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: a lot because that's the reality that you see. And
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: I'm genuinely concerned. I mean, as I look at some
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: of these trends with A.I., And as I look at them,
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: and you're not going to fight the technology. It's going
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: to replace a lot of people in what they call
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: white-collar jobs that are making a decent buck. They're going
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: to lose those jobs. And Joe Kovach, Rockport's truth investing program,
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: he was talking to me. He says he's starting to
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: see that in some areas. And people are having a
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: difficult time finding a job that pays somewhat close to
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: what they were making. And don't put yourself under a
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: financial burden tax-wise where you can't pay the taxes. And
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: the next thing you know, they're saying, you've got to go.
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: And you say, but wait a minute. I own this
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: house or I paid for 10 years or what. None
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: of it matters. None of that matters. That's why I
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: say sign that, you know, Denise DeFabio and Becky and
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: all these people that are the key for that petition
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: to happen. just to give you a chance to get
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: a constitutional amendment on about property taxes. Sign it so
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: you get a chance to vote on it. You've got
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: to stop letting governments screw you and try to slip
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: these things past and take more of your money. I
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: don't know how much more of your money they can take.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: We are making it more difficult for young people to
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: buy a house, for people to stay in their homes,
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: and for senior citizens to. It can and it will
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: affect you. And I'll be the first to say a
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: lot of people abuse the services. I mean, how many
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: people call for an ambulance that really don't need an ambulance?
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: I mean, we don't have enough ambulances to cater to
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. Or you call the cops for
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: something that really isn't a police issue. For some of
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: these ridiculous things. Boardman has their hands full. Austintown has
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: their hands full. All the smaller departments, they have their
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: hands full, too, because they have less of a staff
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: and one or two officers answering all the calls. You're
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: on the air.
- 1:55:28Speaker 19: Ron.
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: Speaking. Hey. Yes.
- 1:55:31Speaker 9: Real quick, three things I'm not.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: Doing leads, but.
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: What am I, like an afterthought? Oh, I'm out doing leaves, Ron,
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: but I'm going to pause for just a second.
- 1:55:41Speaker 19: Hey, I've been waiting online.
- 1:55:42Speaker 20: I listened to Dave.
- 1:55:43Speaker 9: It was a wonderful show. Everything good.
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:55:46Speaker 9: Have I, have I stroked you enough?
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: No, no.
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: I'm not looking for that. I just, sometimes you're the
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: guru of Gerard. You can't, you know, you got it.
- 1:55:55Speaker 19: Well, he's got to do his leave, man.
- 1:55:57Speaker 9: That's beautiful yard.
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: But, uh, what a great day.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: What a great day it is out there, isn't it?
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: It's gorgeous, isn't it? Yes.
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: Now, I need to know something.
- 1:56:06Speaker 9: Vivek must have been listening to your show today. And
- 1:56:12Speaker 9: I've got to tell you this. You know I have
- 1:56:13Speaker 9: respect for you, but I kind of lose when you're
- 1:56:16Speaker 9: trying to push Vivek, but you don't have enough respect
- 1:56:19Speaker 9: for him to pronounce his name correctly.
- 1:56:22Speaker 5: Vivek.
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: I say Vivek.
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: No, you don't.
- 1:56:26Speaker 9: You say Vivek.
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: No, I don't. A million times.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: Oh, man, I'm.
- 1:56:30Speaker 19: Playing the tape on you later.
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: I'm going to do it. I'm going to play the
- 1:56:33Speaker 9: tape on you later.
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: Listen, listen, listen. Okay, if I say it wrong, but
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: I know it's Vivek, and I say it, and I
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: learned that from Alec. Alec taught me that. So if
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: I blow it once in a while, you know who
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: I mean. And you know who I'm going to vote for.
- 1:56:46Speaker 9: I know, but I'm saying you've got to get it
- 1:56:48Speaker 9: so people kind of don't think of them, like, wrong.
- 1:56:51Speaker 9: It's like, you know, they call Vienna, Vienna here, right? Like,
- 1:56:54Speaker 9: it's like, you know, there's pronunciations in Europe, and we
- 1:56:59Speaker 9: should respect that.
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: Okay, but wait a second.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: Okay, legally, legally, you would be Michael, but what do
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: I call you?
- 1:57:08Speaker 9: Yeah, but I don't.
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 1:57:11Speaker 3: My name is Mikael. Mikael.
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: No, I call you Miguel.
- 1:57:16Speaker 9: He's telling you his name is Vivek.
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: I call you Miguel. Do I not?
- 1:57:20Speaker 3: Miguel.
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: And legally, your name is Michael. So I'm not treating
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: you any different than I do Vivek.
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: And guess what? In Spanish, buenas noches, senor. I took it.
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: My name is Ronaldo.
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: Si.
- 1:57:39Speaker 9: Yeah, it's the same in Italian. But I'm not in Italy.
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: But you're the guru of Gerard.
- 1:57:48Speaker 9: Yeah, I know. All right, so the second thing. By
- 1:57:52Speaker 9: the way, I sent you a link that I wish
- 1:57:54Speaker 9: you'd forward over to Dave Johnson. It's that thing I
- 1:57:57Speaker 9: did for Columbia.
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: No, I've got to do my headlines. Just put your
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: leaves on hold. Bear with me.
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: I've got to come back. All righty.
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: Geez, he's demanding. He is demanding.
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: Have you heard the.
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: News presidents don't win almost never, the midterms.
- 1:58:12Speaker 16: A busy weekend for Trump on the stump.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: Donald Trump is on the stump.
- 1:58:16Speaker 16: We have seen this movie before.
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: And I think we've really turned it around. Representative Ilhan
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: Omar's real name.
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: Ilhan Nur Saeed and me.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: Her real name is openly admitted to fraud.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: She must immediately resign from Congress.
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: Going to be a busy week.
- 1:58:31Speaker 9: The fear and intimidation doesn't work on me.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Check in often. WKBN.
- 1:58:37Speaker 23: Bowling Green is receiving nearly $ 2 million to support civic
- 1:58:44Speaker 23: education efforts across Ohio. The grant is designed to train
- 1:58:47Speaker 23: K-12 educators and will provide civic engagement resources, mentorship, and
- 1:58:52Speaker 23: professional development opportunities. The first group of teachers is scheduled
- 1:58:56Speaker 23: to begin the program in January of 2027. In other news,
- 1:59:00Speaker 23: the Akron Zoo is free admission on select days in November.
- 1:59:04Speaker 23: After you cast your ballot on Election Day next week,
- 1:59:07Speaker 23: you can head to the Akron Zoo for free entry.
- 1:59:10Speaker 23: From November 7th through November 11th, all veterans with a
- 1:59:13Speaker 23: valid military ID get in free along with up to
- 1:59:16Speaker 23: five of their friends or family. Also, on November 14th,
- 1:59:20Speaker 23: admission is free for all to mark the return of
- 1:59:23Speaker 23: shopper holidays. More than 60 local vendors set up throughout

- 2:01:08Speaker 2: All right, it's 535 NewsRadio 570 WKBN and Ron Burp,
- 2:01:14Speaker 2: 65 degrees, Tuesday, October 27th. I better get right back
- 2:01:18Speaker 2: to the Guru chart. He's paused because he's doing leaves, folks,
- 2:01:21Speaker 2: to convey his knowledge to us. So I can't keep
- 2:01:26Speaker 2: him waiting long.
- 2:01:28Speaker 9: I just took a break, Ron. I just finished up
- 2:01:31Speaker 9: right on your commercial.
- 2:01:33Speaker 19: You know the other thing you weren't hitting?
- 2:01:35Speaker 3: I mean, you're doing a good job.
- 2:01:36Speaker 9: Hitting a lot of things. But the one thing you've
- 2:01:38Speaker 9: got to keep hitting, I think Alec would agree with this.
- 2:01:41Speaker 3: Is the debt.
- 2:01:43Speaker 9: They've got to stop. That's affecting it every bit as
- 2:01:46Speaker 9: much as property taxes. That's what's making it go up, too.
- 2:01:49Speaker 9: The value of the dollar is just slowly, every year,
- 2:01:52Speaker 9: losing value. They're just stealing from you.
- 2:01:55Speaker 3: Every year, every day.
- 2:01:57Speaker 9: And no one says anything about it.
- 2:01:58Speaker 3: It just keeps happening.
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: Well, let me ask you this, and I agree with that.
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: Inflation is a huge problem. I mean, if you take
- 2:02:05Speaker 2: a look at what a police car costs now versus
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: a few years ago, not that long ago, you take
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: a look at a fire truck versus a couple years ago,
- 2:02:14Speaker 2: the price increase is dramatic on what the equipment is saying,
- 2:02:18Speaker 2: or the cost of benefits for your employees. All of
- 2:02:22Speaker 2: this stuff is dramatic, and that is a result of
- 2:02:25Speaker 2: this inflation that's going on. But that government policy of
- 2:02:29Speaker 2: printing money like Biden did and handing it out, supply
- 2:02:32Speaker 2: and demand, right, Michael? The more dollars you print, the
- 2:02:34Speaker 2: less value the existing ones have.
- 2:02:37Speaker 3: You said one thing wrong, sir, okay?
- 2:02:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:02:40Speaker 9: Because that's where you're missing it. Sure, Biden did it,
- 2:02:43Speaker 9: but so did Trump.
- 2:02:44Speaker 2: I agree.
- 2:02:45Speaker 3: So did Obama. So did Bush, okay? So did all
- 2:02:50Speaker 3: both parties.
- 2:02:52Speaker 9: They all do it because they're all making money off us.
- 2:02:55Speaker 9: It comes back to them in a circle. It's the
- 2:02:58Speaker 9: most corrupt thing ever, and nobody says anything about it.
- 2:03:01Speaker 9: It's the biggest tax you'll ever pay, and people do
- 2:03:04Speaker 9: not say anything about it. They just keep taking it
- 2:03:08Speaker 9: and arguing about who's spending more money, right?
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: You know?
- 2:03:13Speaker 2: It's crazy, man.
- 2:03:14Speaker 4: And.
- 2:03:15Speaker 2: Listen, I don't know anybody's income that's keeping up to it.
- 2:03:19Speaker 2: And I understand, as I said the other day, all
- 2:03:22Speaker 2: the restaurants are busy. 224 is busy. People are out
- 2:03:25Speaker 2: and about. But there's no way you'll ever convince me
- 2:03:27Speaker 2: that their household incomes are this much. And if you're
- 2:03:33Speaker 2: paying more for electric and gas and... groceries and all
- 2:03:37Speaker 2: and all this stuff medical care you name it you
- 2:03:40Speaker 2: got to cut somewhere or you just go further in
- 2:03:42Speaker 2: debt and and that's the reality of families that are
- 2:03:46Speaker 2: out there it's there's an illusion effect or a lot
- 2:03:49Speaker 2: of people are in debt up to their eyeballs what
- 2:03:52Speaker 2: do you say.
- 2:03:52Speaker 9: Yep yeah i mean you just you got it it's
- 2:03:56Speaker 9: it's a problem i don't care what party you're from
- 2:03:59Speaker 9: you know if you're not talking that i it's hard
- 2:04:02Speaker 9: to vote for any of you okay because it's not
- 2:04:05Speaker 9: going to solve any problem. All these other things you're
- 2:04:07Speaker 9: talking about are not going to solve any problem if
- 2:04:09Speaker 9: you don't bug the dam, okay? Because it's just flowing.
- 2:04:16Speaker 3: One more thing, Ron.
- 2:04:17Speaker 9: We were talking about AI yesterday and everything, and I've
- 2:04:21Speaker 9: been busy doing this voting stuff, and I hadn't been
- 2:04:24Speaker 9: watching my emails. I've got to tell you something. All
- 2:04:27Speaker 9: this stuff I'm finally doing and improving my skills, and
- 2:04:30Speaker 9: I told you a lot of people won't do, but
- 2:04:32Speaker 9: I had like six legitimate reach out, like job leads
- 2:04:37Speaker 9: in the last 24 hours. So that's not happened since,
- 2:04:44Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 2:04:44Speaker 2: Well, do you think there's a possibility that I'm good
- 2:04:47Speaker 2: luck for you?
- 2:04:50Speaker 9: Sure, but it is more, no one really, they're not
- 2:04:54Speaker 9: listening to your show, the kind of people that are
- 2:04:56Speaker 9: hiring me. But no, I'm just saying like, you know,
- 2:04:59Speaker 9: I've been retooling and retooling, retooling, you know, And now
- 2:05:03Speaker 9: I'm teaching retooling and, like, you know, just living in, like,
- 2:05:06Speaker 9: I'm working for free so much over this last year
- 2:05:10Speaker 9: that finally, because I know that's how you got to
- 2:05:12Speaker 9: do it, technology.
- 2:05:13Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 2:05:14Speaker 9: You got to improve your own skills.
- 2:05:16Speaker 2: How old are you now? 63.
- 2:05:19Speaker 9: All right.
- 2:05:22Speaker 2: So at what age are you going to take Social Security,
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: or did you already?
- 2:05:29Speaker 9: I'd like to at about 80. That'd be great.
- 2:05:32Speaker 2: No, that's stupid. I mean, because I'm going to tell you,
- 2:05:38Speaker 2: you've had.
- 2:05:38Speaker 9: Okay, at what age can I still make a million
- 2:05:41Speaker 9: dollars a year and get my benefits?
- 2:05:44Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to tell you something. You shouldn't take
- 2:05:47Speaker 2: it before 65, but you could take it at 67.
- 2:05:53Speaker 2: If you take it at your full retirement age of 67...
- 2:05:57Speaker 2: You can then make as much as you want to
- 2:05:59Speaker 2: make without a penalty. If you take it at 66,
- 2:06:04Speaker 2: one year before you reach your full retirement age, you
- 2:06:06Speaker 2: can make like $ 65, 000. If you go over that, then
- 2:06:09Speaker 2: they penalize you $ 1 for every $ 3 you go over.
- 2:06:11Speaker 2: So the penalty changes automatically. Instead of one for two,
- 2:06:19Speaker 2: it changes one to three, and then the amount goes
- 2:06:23Speaker 2: up to like $ 65, 000. So you can weigh it. What
- 2:06:27Speaker 2: time should you take it? Either you should take it
- 2:06:29Speaker 2: when you turn 66 or you should take it when
- 2:06:32Speaker 2: you turn 67. Now, I'm saying this to you, and
- 2:06:36Speaker 2: I'm not going to screw around with you. You've had
- 2:06:38Speaker 2: part of a lung removed because of cancer, and you smoked,
- 2:06:43Speaker 2: so you've had your share of health problems. So don't
- 2:06:47Speaker 2: jack me around with taking it at 80. Who knows
- 2:06:49Speaker 2: if you're going to be around at 80 is what
- 2:06:51Speaker 2: I'm telling you.
- 2:06:52Speaker 9: Ron, I don't care. Okay, so Ron, 67, fine. Whatever
- 2:06:57Speaker 9: age that I could keep building money.
- 2:07:00Speaker 19: Because you know what?
- 2:07:01Speaker 9: I don't really want to completely retire. I don't know
- 2:07:03Speaker 9: whether I want to work full-time all the time. I'm
- 2:07:04Speaker 9: not sure yet, but I don't want to retire. I
- 2:07:06Speaker 9: just love doing it. I've been working since I was
- 2:07:09Speaker 9: seven years old. I'm kidding you not. I cut every
- 2:07:13Speaker 9: baseball field in Girard. and lawns and stuff when I
- 2:07:16Speaker 9: was like eight or nine years old. And I've been
- 2:07:19Speaker 9: working ever since. And I just don't know anything different,
- 2:07:22Speaker 9: and I don't feel right unless I'm doing it. And
- 2:07:24Speaker 9: so that's what I'm going to do until I can't
- 2:07:26Speaker 9: do it anymore because then they'll tell me. Then I'll
- 2:07:28Speaker 9: sit there and I'll say, you know, hey, yeah. And also,
- 2:07:32Speaker 9: the trophy wife who just came home in a really
- 2:07:35Speaker 9: nice yellow windbreaker, looks really nice, she still wants her
- 2:07:38Speaker 9: house up on the lake. And I'm almost there.
- 2:07:41Speaker 2: On Lake Erie?
- 2:07:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:07:47Speaker 2: Well, why does she want a house up there? First
- 2:07:50Speaker 2: of all, it's pretty.
- 2:07:50Speaker 9: She wants to sit and drink her coffee when she's
- 2:07:53Speaker 9: older and look out at the lake.
- 2:07:54Speaker 2: Okay, well, why don't you get her a house in
- 2:07:57Speaker 2: Florida that she can enjoy in the wintertime? where you
- 2:08:01Speaker 2: can escape the snow and the cold weather. I'll tell
- 2:08:04Speaker 2: you what my brothers say.
- 2:08:05Speaker 10: I'll tell you why.
- 2:08:06Speaker 2: No, I'm an aunt. I'm not done yet with you. Okay,
- 2:08:10Speaker 2: you know, both of my brothers live in Florida. Okay,
- 2:08:14Speaker 2: so I have two older brothers, and they've lived there
- 2:08:18Speaker 2: for quite some time. And they say.
- 2:08:21Speaker 2: If you look, people, if you live in Florida, you
- 2:08:24Speaker 2: will live longer. And they say because the sunshine makes
- 2:08:28Speaker 2: a difference and you're more active year-round in Florida. In
- 2:08:32Speaker 2: the wintertime, you're not sitting in your house or you
- 2:08:34Speaker 2: don't go out because of the snow or ice or whatever.
- 2:08:37Speaker 2: That you live longer and it's just– more enjoyable place
- 2:08:41Speaker 2: to be. You know, all I'm saying is I'm suggesting
- 2:08:44Speaker 2: for you, perhaps your wife would enjoy Florida more than,
- 2:08:48Speaker 2: than she would sitting at Lake Erie. I mean, I'm just,
- 2:08:53Speaker 2: I don't, I don't get that.
- 2:08:54Speaker 9: Ron.
- 2:08:54Speaker 19: Okay.
- 2:08:55Speaker 9: So the reason I married her is she is everything
- 2:08:58Speaker 9: about family. Pretty much like I am.
- 2:09:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:09:03Speaker 9: Well, she's never going anywhere that her parents aren't there
- 2:09:07Speaker 9: and her kids aren't there.
- 2:09:08Speaker 3: End of story.
- 2:09:11Speaker 9: So, I answered your question.
- 2:09:14Speaker 2: Okay. You know what? I think I've had just about
- 2:09:16Speaker 2: enough of you for one day.
- 2:09:18Speaker 19: Right.
- 2:09:19Speaker 9: Too much reality, my friend.
- 2:09:21Speaker 3: I enjoy you.
- 2:09:22Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 2:09:22Speaker 3: Take care of yourself.
- 2:09:23Speaker 2: Shadaru of Girard, you're on the air.
- 2:09:26Speaker 3: Hey, Ron. It's Andrew. How you doing?
- 2:09:29Speaker 2: Andrew, Andrew, Andrew. I'm doing well. Andrew Smith, the world's
- 2:09:33Speaker 2: greatest CPA. How are you, my friend?
- 2:09:36Speaker 3: It's been a while.
- 2:09:36Speaker 30: I think I'm going to talk to you tomorrow. We're
- 2:09:37Speaker 30: going to be on the financial show. We'll go ahead
- 2:09:39Speaker 30: and talk to you about some finance. But I called
- 2:09:41Speaker 30: about the election.
- 2:09:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:09:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:09:43Speaker 30: Because, you know, I was talking, listening to the show.
- 2:09:47Speaker 30: I've been listening a lot. And, you know, I have
- 2:09:49Speaker 30: to say, when it comes to Amy Acton and when
- 2:09:52Speaker 30: it comes to Vivek Ramaswamy, sorry if I butchered his name.
- 2:09:56Speaker 30: You know, we would be remiss if we were to
- 2:09:59Speaker 30: go backwards over the last 16 years of progress we've
- 2:10:03Speaker 30: had here in Ohio and to bring in someone like
- 2:10:06Speaker 30: Amy Acton. You know, we're the number one state in
- 2:10:09Speaker 30: the union right now for business. That did not happen
- 2:10:12Speaker 30: by accident. That happened because we had good Republican governors,
- 2:10:16Speaker 30: whether they've been good or bad in some ways, but, man,
- 2:10:18Speaker 30: they've been good on business. We've had Kasich, and we've
- 2:10:20Speaker 30: had DeWine, and they've been very, very good with business,
- 2:10:24Speaker 30: and we became the best state in the union for business.
- 2:10:27Speaker 30: And they got rid of the inheritance tax, which is huge.
- 2:10:31Speaker 30: I do a lot of taxes for a lot of
- 2:10:33Speaker 30: people in Pennsylvania. Do you know how high.
- 2:10:36Speaker 3: Their inheritance tax is over there? No. It's terrible.
- 2:10:40Speaker 30: Heaven forbid you leave your estate to your children, or
- 2:10:44Speaker 30: God forbid you leave it to a friend who's a
- 2:10:46Speaker 30: non-blood relative, you'll pay upwards of over 10% in estate
- 2:10:51Speaker 30: tax based on the value of your assets when you die.
- 2:10:56Speaker 30: That's ridiculous. The state of Ohio does not have an
- 2:10:58Speaker 30: inheritance tax because they eliminate it under Kasich. If you
- 2:11:04Speaker 30: want to go back to that type of tax law
- 2:11:07Speaker 30: here in Ohio, and if you want to go backwards
- 2:11:09Speaker 30: in time 16 years before now where we're at the
- 2:11:13Speaker 30: top of the heap now, fine. Go ahead and vote
- 2:11:15Speaker 30: for Amy Acton. But I have to say, I don't
- 2:11:18Speaker 30: want to go back. And quite frankly, if she wins,
- 2:11:21Speaker 30: I might move out. There's other states out there. But, man,
- 2:11:23Speaker 30: we are one of the best in the Midwest. And
- 2:11:26Speaker 30: we look a gift horse in the mouth with how
- 2:11:28Speaker 30: good we've had it from a business standpoint. And we
- 2:11:31Speaker 30: have everything going for us here. We've got good economics.
- 2:11:35Speaker 30: We have a really good place to do business. We
- 2:11:38Speaker 30: have four beautiful seasons. I know we have to deal
- 2:11:40Speaker 30: with wintertime, but other than that, it's beautiful out here.
- 2:11:43Speaker 30: And we have a lot of water. And we're where
- 2:11:46Speaker 30: the data centers want to be. Why would we ruin
- 2:11:48Speaker 30: that by bringing in this unknown individual who wants to
- 2:11:52Speaker 30: go backwards in time? I don't like it one bit.
- 2:11:55Speaker 30: I encourage people to vote intelligently here and not go
- 2:11:58Speaker 30: back in time to under the– basically before Kasich when
- 2:12:02Speaker 30: we had to deal with Ted Strickland. Those were not
- 2:12:04Speaker 30: good times.
- 2:12:05Speaker 2: A lot of times they would call out Andrew Death taxes,
- 2:12:08Speaker 2: and it particularly affected a lot of people with family
- 2:12:11Speaker 2: farms where they couldn't keep the farm and the family.
- 2:12:14Speaker 3: Accurate?
- 2:12:16Speaker 30: Well, that's accurate because before, as it is, we already
- 2:12:20Speaker 30: have a pretty pernicious estate tax on the Fed, which
- 2:12:24Speaker 30: has gotten better at least under Trump because the estate.
- 2:12:27Speaker 3: Tax exemption is.
- 2:12:29Speaker 30: $ 16 million plus per person. So that's become less of
- 2:12:33Speaker 30: an issue. But the state of Ohio used to have
- 2:12:36Speaker 30: any estate that was worth more than $ 333, 000, I believe
- 2:12:40Speaker 30: it was, would be subject to a state of Ohio
- 2:12:43Speaker 30: inheritance tax, and that's a debt tax. So in other words,
- 2:12:47Speaker 30: these farmers would die, their estate was worth like $ 2
- 2:12:50Speaker 30: or $ 3 million, and they had to sell land just
- 2:12:53Speaker 30: to pay the tax. And that was a problem on
- 2:12:56Speaker 30: the state side, and that was a problem on the
- 2:12:58Speaker 30: federal side. The state fixed it here in the state
- 2:13:02Speaker 30: of Ohio, and the Fed has really made it less
- 2:13:04Speaker 30: of an issue because they raised the cap to a
- 2:13:06Speaker 30: very high amount. And I don't want to go back
- 2:13:08Speaker 30: to those times where people had to sell their farms
- 2:13:10Speaker 30: just to.
- 2:13:10Speaker 3: Pay the tax.
- 2:13:12Speaker 2: Talking with Andrew Smith, CPA. And could you, to catch
- 2:13:17Speaker 2: you on the fly here, could you talk a little
- 2:13:18Speaker 2: bit about people on how they benefited from what Trump
- 2:13:22Speaker 2: did as far as no tax on overtime, no tax
- 2:13:26Speaker 2: on tips, a bigger deduction for Social Security and the
- 2:13:30Speaker 2: Trump tax cuts off the top of your head? Could
- 2:13:32Speaker 2: you tell people, everybody, Americans, it doesn't matter if you're
- 2:13:36Speaker 2: a Democrat or Republican, what those things did as far
- 2:13:39Speaker 2: as you're keeping your money?
- 2:13:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:13:42Speaker 30: I mean, prior to 2018, under Trump's first term, when
- 2:13:47Speaker 30: he brought in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we
- 2:13:49Speaker 30: had very low standard deductions for people. We had very
- 2:13:53Speaker 30: high tax brackets for various income levels. And he fixed
- 2:13:57Speaker 30: that with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, not to
- 2:13:59Speaker 30: mention all the business items that we got. We have
- 2:14:03Speaker 30: a lot of write-offs for businesses now where we can
- 2:14:05Speaker 30: take a heavy depreciation on things. We pay a lot
- 2:14:08Speaker 30: less in taxes across the board. And then he re-upped
- 2:14:10Speaker 30: it under the big, beautiful bill where he made it
- 2:14:13Speaker 30: permanent on a lot of these things, and he re-upped it.
- 2:14:16Speaker 30: And now we all save many thousands of dollars every year,
- 2:14:20Speaker 30: whether you are an individual or whether you're a business owner.
- 2:14:24Speaker 30: you're saving money under those tax laws. And I think
- 2:14:28Speaker 30: the issue is we have very short memories. We forget
- 2:14:32Speaker 30: what it was like under the Obama administration, under the
- 2:14:34Speaker 30: old tax laws. When we had to pay higher taxes
- 2:14:38Speaker 30: on our income, when we had lower standard deductions and
- 2:14:41Speaker 30: the businesses were really suffering with higher tax brackets, we
- 2:14:44Speaker 30: forgot what that was like. And then we got this
- 2:14:46Speaker 30: great tax boom here under Trump. More money came into
- 2:14:50Speaker 30: the Treasury. We all paid less taxes, and the economy
- 2:14:52Speaker 30: started booming. And now what are we going to do,
- 2:14:54Speaker 30: go back in time and go back under Obama-era taxes?
- 2:14:57Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 2:14:59Speaker 30: It's not something I want to see for my clients
- 2:15:01Speaker 30: and for my business owners, and it's certainly not something
- 2:15:04Speaker 30: that we want to see as a state of Ohio.
- 2:15:07Speaker 30: you know, with this upcoming election. So we'll see what happens.
- 2:15:11Speaker 2: When you look at what Trump did with the tax brackets,
- 2:15:14Speaker 2: everyone benefits because what he did with those tax brackets,
- 2:15:18Speaker 2: as far as the percentage you pay, because if you
- 2:15:21Speaker 2: make $ 300, 000 a year, you start off in the bottom
- 2:15:25Speaker 2: tax bracket, then you go to the next one, then
- 2:15:26Speaker 2: you go to the next one. But he made those
- 2:15:29Speaker 2: percentages less, right, in all of the brackets. Is that accurate?
- 2:15:32Speaker 19: All of them.
- 2:15:33Speaker 5: All of them.
- 2:15:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:15:33Speaker 30: What used to fall into the 32% tax bracket only
- 2:15:36Speaker 30: falls in a 24% tax bracket now. So it really
- 2:15:40Speaker 30: does make a big difference across the board. And then
- 2:15:43Speaker 30: with the big, beautiful bill, you are seeing no tax
- 2:15:45Speaker 30: on overtime for a lot of people. I've seen that
- 2:15:47Speaker 30: help a lot of our blue-collar workers. We're seeing no
- 2:15:49Speaker 30: tax on tips up to a certain amount. That's been
- 2:15:52Speaker 30: very good for our servers. And, you know, it's not
- 2:15:55Speaker 30: really no tax on Social Security, regardless of what he says.
- 2:15:57Speaker 30: Sometimes he'll go out and say no tax on Social Security.
- 2:16:00Speaker 30: That's not quite true. However, he did give a senior deduction, though,
- 2:16:04Speaker 30: for people who make under a certain amount. They get
- 2:16:06Speaker 30: an extra $ 6, 000 or $ 12, 000 per year of deduction on
- 2:16:10Speaker 30: their standard deduction if they're married. And that has helped
- 2:16:13Speaker 30: alleviate the tax burden for our seniors. So at the
- 2:16:16Speaker 30: end of the day, it's all good. And if you
- 2:16:18Speaker 30: want to be taxed more, fine. You can vote for
- 2:16:20Speaker 30: the other side. But if you want to enjoy the
- 2:16:23Speaker 30: tax benefits we've received over the last several years, then
- 2:16:27Speaker 30: you really should keep the current power in place. Because
- 2:16:31Speaker 30: I don't want to go back to Ohio 16 years ago.
- 2:16:33Speaker 30: I really don't want to see that.
- 2:16:35Speaker 3: It's not good for us.
- 2:16:36Speaker 2: Isn't the goal where Trump wants you to be able
- 2:16:38Speaker 2: to keep more of your money, basically, by what he did?
- 2:16:42Speaker 2: He thinks that your money's best in your pockets. Agree?
- 2:16:46Speaker 3: That's agreed. I agree with that. That's the point.
- 2:16:48Speaker 30: You're better at spending your money than the government is.
- 2:16:51Speaker 30: And I wish that both parties would be better at
- 2:16:53Speaker 30: being more statistically responsible. But at the end of the day,
- 2:16:56Speaker 30: if you're going to pick the lesser of two evils,
- 2:16:58Speaker 30: I'm going to pick the party that's going.
- 2:16:59Speaker 9: To tax me less.
- 2:17:01Speaker 3: And uh.
- 2:17:01Speaker 30: is going to keep more my money in my pocket
- 2:17:04Speaker 30: and that's that is not the party of amy acton
- 2:17:07Speaker 30: that's not the party of sharon brown that can be
- 2:17:09Speaker 30: the party of the other side and i have my
- 2:17:11Speaker 30: qualms of the republicans i'm not sitting here about cheerleader
- 2:17:14Speaker 30: for the republicans all the time they have their own
- 2:17:16Speaker 30: issues but i'm gonna pick the party that puts more
- 2:17:18Speaker 30: money in my pocket in my client pocket Because we're
- 2:17:21Speaker 30: better at spending our.
- 2:17:22Speaker 3: Money than the government.
- 2:17:23Speaker 2: I'm going to ask you this tomorrow on the Rockport
- 2:17:25Speaker 2: show when we record it. I'm going to ask you
- 2:17:27Speaker 2: this question. You explain to me how in the topsy-turvy
- 2:17:30Speaker 2: times that we're experiencing, why gold is going down. Usually
- 2:17:33Speaker 2: in topsy-turvy times, gold goes up, not down.
- 2:17:37Speaker 3: Comment? Yeah. Yeah, that's huge.
- 2:17:39Speaker 30: And the reason why precious metals in general are going
- 2:17:41Speaker 30: down is because yields are going up quite quickly and
- 2:17:44Speaker 30: inflation's going up. And what's going to end up happening
- 2:17:48Speaker 30: here is if the yields don't come under control, we're
- 2:17:51Speaker 30: going to see a downward pressure, not just on precious metals,
- 2:17:55Speaker 30: but on the stock market as a whole. And if
- 2:17:58Speaker 30: the Federal Reserve decides to lower rates in order to
- 2:18:01Speaker 30: spruce up the economy, you'll see.
- 2:18:03Speaker 3: Precious metals go back up.
- 2:18:04Speaker 2: Thank you, Andrew.
- 2:18:05Speaker 3: See you tomorrow.
- 2:18:05Speaker 5: All right.
- 2:18:06Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: I'll see you tomorrow.
- 2:18:12Speaker 2: I tell you about that Joel Ross rants. It's a
- 2:18:17Speaker 2: paid-for service, and I get it on the QT. It's
- 2:18:22Speaker 2: kind of interesting. I'll have to read it to you
- 2:18:24Speaker 2: tomorrow when I have more time to cover all of that.
- 2:18:26Speaker 2: I was just looking at that during the break, and
- 2:18:31Speaker 2: just some of it. The housing market is doing as
- 2:18:33Speaker 2: I forecasted and is crashing. It is the worst since 2001.
- 2:18:40Speaker 2: Very little is selling until sellers of existing homes get
- 2:18:45Speaker 2: real and lower their price by 10% so they will
- 2:18:49Speaker 2: not sell home prices. are done rising in most of
- 2:18:56Speaker 2: the nation. They are declining. So if you are a seller,
- 2:19:00Speaker 2: either get real or don't sell. Your house is not
- 2:19:03Speaker 2: worth what you fantasize it's worth unless it is at
- 2:19:07Speaker 2: the very high ends of the great locations like Palm
- 2:19:11Speaker 2: Beach or the Hamptons. He says, I am not predicting
- 2:19:15Speaker 2: the outcome, but I don't believe the polls. They miss
- 2:19:20Speaker 2: a lot of voter groups and especially conservatives and retired people.
- 2:19:24Speaker 2: Don't be shocked if the GOP holds both houses. Now
- 2:19:28Speaker 2: we learn that one of the polls that helped push
- 2:19:34Speaker 2: Democrat socialist candidates was a fraud. It is not the
- 2:19:39Speaker 2: blue wave the media portrays. I mean, this is just
- 2:19:42Speaker 2: some of the stuff that he, I find this guy interesting.
- 2:19:45Speaker 2: It's called Ross's Rants. I find it stunning that the
- 2:19:51Speaker 2: Dems do not look at France and the crushing entitlements
- 2:19:54Speaker 2: and realize what they have wrought.
- 2:19:56Speaker 3: The U.S.
- 2:19:57Speaker 2: Is only moving ahead now due to data centers and
- 2:20:01Speaker 2: AI spending, but the massive federal debt is still hanging
- 2:20:05Speaker 2: out there waiting to turn into a crisis one day soon.
- 2:20:10Speaker 2: What is it that voters do not understand? Good question.
- 2:20:15Speaker 2: Is it on TV every day now? It just shows
- 2:20:18Speaker 2: how dumb so many voters really are and who fail,
- 2:20:22Speaker 2: who fall for the Dems are going to help the
- 2:20:25Speaker 2: little guy. That's BS. Do they think the rest of
- 2:20:29Speaker 2: us are just going to pay more taxes and smile?
- 2:20:33Speaker 2: It is clear that they do not connect France and
- 2:20:36Speaker 2: socialism the Dems are selling.
- 2:20:38Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 2:20:39Speaker 2: Let me squeeze this in, then we'll make way for
- 2:20:41Speaker 2: Sean Hannity at 6. I think he's off this week
- 2:20:43Speaker 2: because he got married. Hello?
- 2:20:47Speaker 5: Hello?
- 2:20:47Speaker 19: Hello?
- 2:20:48Speaker 3: Hello?
- 2:20:49Speaker 5: Hey, Ron.
- 2:20:51Speaker 3: Yes. Go ahead. Are you there, Ron? Yes, I am.
- 2:20:57Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 2:21:01Speaker 2: I am here. I am here. I don't know why
- 2:21:05Speaker 2: you don't hear me Try it again.
- 2:21:09Speaker 23: All right.
- 2:21:10Speaker 2: Not my fault, his.
- 2:21:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:21:12Speaker 2: We'll make way for Sean Hannity. That's coming up after
- 2:21:14Speaker 2: the break at 6. How about the ball game tonight?
- 2:21:17Speaker 2: I am going to miss baseball when it isn't around anymore.
- 2:21:20Speaker 2: But did you watch last night's World Series game? If
- 2:21:23Speaker 2: you haven't been watching it, you missed one spectacular game
- 2:21:26Speaker 2: last night. I mean, it was just exciting to watch
- 2:21:30Speaker 2: and just terrific to watch. Looking forward to, you know,
- 2:21:34Speaker 2: you got the Brewers. They got three under their belts.
- 2:21:38Speaker 2: Tampa Bay sitting there with nothing. These are exciting times.
- 2:21:42Speaker 2: If you're not watching the World Series, I look forward
- 2:21:44Speaker 2: to it. And it's just a part of getting away
- 2:21:47Speaker 2: from politics and everything. You will enjoy it. Hey, Ron
- 2:21:49Speaker 2: Furt from the Kingdom of Mahoning. We wrap up. Stay tuned.
- 2:21:52Speaker 2: Hannity's after the news break at 6. right here from
- 2:21:55Speaker 2: NewsRadio 570 WKBN. We'll regroup and come back tomorrow at 3.
- 2:21:59Speaker 2: Thanks to Dave Johnson for being on with us, Gino
- 2:22:02Speaker 2: the Commissioner being on with us, George McKelvey, the former
- 2:22:05Speaker 2: mayor of Youngstown, and Andrew Smith, CPA.
