- 0:31what is going on everybody
- 0:32welcome to thursday night
- 0:34crossfit talk on a sunday
- 0:35night um we did that
- 0:38originally because of the
- 0:39nfl draft and I am a huge
- 0:42nfl fan and wanted to
- 0:43partake in that and then
- 0:46all hell broke loose and
- 0:47it's probably a good thing
- 0:48we did it because we know
- 0:50more today than we ever
- 0:51would have known on
- 0:52thursday night so we can
- 0:53actually discuss a little
- 0:55bit more as to what's going on uh tonight
- 0:58So before we get into all that,
- 1:02I don't know if you've
- 1:02noticed at the bottom of the screen,
- 1:04we have a new sponsor.
- 1:06Yay.
- 1:08Finally got a new sponsor this year.
- 1:10It is Thick Boy.
- 1:13You can see that Jamie and I
- 1:15are wearing a Thick Boy shirt.
- 1:19They're awesome.
- 1:19They're super soft,
- 1:21super comfortable shirts.
- 1:23The most exciting thing is
- 1:26They will be carrying
- 1:28Clydesdale media merchandise.
- 1:31They are doing up the screens now.
- 1:34We should have something in
- 1:35the next week or two as to
- 1:37what will be available.
- 1:38You'll be able to go to the
- 1:41Thickboy website and order
- 1:44shirts and tanks in the first run.
- 1:46And then we'll take a poll
- 1:50and see what other
- 1:51merchandise you guys would
- 1:52be interested in,
- 1:53and we'll do that moving forward.
- 1:56But it will feature the new logo.
- 1:58the horse with the barbell
- 2:00uh for the first run and uh
- 2:02that'll be available in the
- 2:04next week or so so super
- 2:07stoked about that um these
- 2:09shirts are super
- 2:10comfortable I love I have
- 2:11uh this one and a white and
- 2:13blue one um they're pretty
- 2:14amazing and again one of
- 2:17the softest shirts I own
- 2:19Yeah, they've got some hilarious ones.
- 2:22They have a ladies one
- 2:24that's cute but psycho.
- 2:27He's got a ton of funny ones.
- 2:28Mark actually goes to my gym
- 2:30and he does all of our gym wear.
- 2:33So I love it.
- 2:35I'm biased because he's a member,
- 2:37but I love it.
- 2:38yeah speaking of sponsors if
- 2:40anyone want to help sponsor
- 2:42my trip to semifinals just
- 2:43throwing it out there
- 2:45started paying for my trip
- 2:46and stuff and I was like
- 2:47god damn this is getting
- 2:48expensive yeah well
- 2:52speaking of semifinals um
- 2:55going to do some fun stuff
- 2:56later because this has been
- 2:58the whole week from the
- 2:59crossfit world it is
- 3:01semi-finals or
- 3:02quarterfinals finished
- 3:04videos were submitted um it
- 3:06was sometime on wednesday I
- 3:09believe penalties started
- 3:11to be issued and the
- 3:13leaderboards leaderboards
- 3:15changed dramatically so
- 3:19I was on with Tristan,
- 3:20Jamie's coach on Thursday.
- 3:22We talked about this and I
- 3:25said on that show and I put
- 3:26a reel out about it.
- 3:28This is what we've been
- 3:29asking for consistency, professionalism,
- 3:34standard of movement.
- 3:37Now everybody's going crazy
- 3:38because they're implementing it.
- 3:41I do agree.
- 3:41They should have
- 3:42communicated it at least some,
- 3:45if not a whole lot better.
- 3:46Um,
- 3:49But it's here.
- 3:50You two have not had a penalty yet.
- 3:56Carolyn,
- 3:57we can share with the world and I
- 3:59have it pulled up here.
- 4:00Let me see if I can find it again.
- 4:07I was going to post a video
- 4:08soon on my Instagram with all of my...
- 4:11Highlights from quarterfinals,
- 4:12including my box step-ups
- 4:14for people to see what standing up means.
- 4:17Validated all four workouts.
- 4:19Yes.
- 4:21Have you had any looked at, Jamie?
- 4:23I've had workout two validated.
- 4:26Okay.
- 4:28So that's the other thing
- 4:29that I'm not sure was
- 4:32communicated is how far
- 4:33down they are doing the video review.
- 4:35I've heard rumors of 80.
- 4:38Um,
- 4:38and that would make sense because Jamie
- 4:40was way up on workout two,
- 4:42but not that far up on workout one.
- 4:45So that would kind of make sense in there.
- 4:48Um, have you heard anything Carolyn?
- 4:53How far they're going back?
- 4:54Well,
- 4:54I know that everyone that is inside
- 4:57the top 40,
- 4:57like originally it was top 60
- 4:59was going to get their videos reviewed.
- 5:01And then every new person
- 5:02that's kind of entering the top 40,
- 5:03I'm assuming everybody was
- 5:04getting looked at.
- 5:05What's very interesting is the age group.
- 5:08I think their deadline for
- 5:10the video validation
- 5:12process is later and their
- 5:14semifinals is coming up.
- 5:16very soon but I guess
- 5:17they're probably thinking
- 5:19let's validate all of the
- 5:20individuals that actually
- 5:21have to have travel trips
- 5:23planned versus the age
- 5:25groups that are staying um
- 5:27online for their semi-final
- 5:29so um I think that the date
- 5:32for you guys a little bit
- 5:33later maybe a week later
- 5:35for jamie and the age group
- 5:37I think our I think it said
- 5:39may 1st was our deadline it
- 5:40was only a few days I
- 5:41thought only a few days after
- 5:45I mean, our time is May 8th,
- 5:47so if May 1st is the finalization,
- 5:51that gives you one week to
- 5:53get your crap together.
- 5:56Corey has moved into... Can
- 5:58you pull your mic a little bit closer?
- 6:00Yeah.
- 6:01Okay, cool.
- 6:03Bruce is asking Corey where did he end up.
- 6:05I see he has moved up to like 185.
- 6:06And it's top 200 for each age group,
- 6:10right?
- 6:10Awesome.
- 6:11Mm-hmm.
- 6:15So Corey could be a semifinalist.
- 6:18Yes.
- 6:23Put it in the Insta profile, Corey,
- 6:27in the bio.
- 6:28Yeah.
- 6:31So I ask you,
- 6:33is this what you wanted as an
- 6:35athlete to have?
- 6:38And I think I know the
- 6:39answer knowing the two of you,
- 6:41but I want to hear from you.
- 6:42Is this what you wanted?
- 6:47You go first.
- 6:47I mean, so yes, but I would,
- 6:53I need to caveat that with
- 6:55like just seeing like 600,
- 6:59700 people get dinged with
- 7:01no communication really
- 7:03other than helping document
- 7:04that shows the number of reps,
- 7:07still no reasoning, still no,
- 7:09like there's just no transparency.
- 7:12And I think that is so wrong.
- 7:15Yes, I want standards held,
- 7:16but I want them held like
- 7:19across the board.
- 7:20And I want it clear.
- 7:21I want, I want it very clear what,
- 7:24what was okayed and what was not okayed.
- 7:28Yeah.
- 7:29Um,
- 7:29I'm in agreement standards need to be
- 7:32held.
- 7:33Um,
- 7:34some standards were not held by the
- 7:36athletes.
- 7:36I thought the wording was pretty clear.
- 7:38Um, I think.
- 7:42Where CrossFit needs to
- 7:43communicate better is in the penalties.
- 7:46And that part is subjective a little bit.
- 7:48Like some people have,
- 7:50let's say most of the reps
- 7:51are good and then some bad
- 7:53reps and they're still
- 7:54getting the 15 or 20% penalty.
- 7:56And some people,
- 7:57all of their reps look bad.
- 8:00that I guess,
- 8:01or not no reps and they're
- 8:02getting similar types of penalties.
- 8:04So I guess just in that communication,
- 8:05like which reps would be nice to,
- 8:09to write.
- 8:10And then in the past, actually,
- 8:12I don't think they did that
- 8:13on the scorecard of like,
- 8:16what the no reps will be for penalties.
- 8:17I think they did some
- 8:18penalties last year in the quarterfinals.
- 8:21Remember they had like a little thing.
- 8:22If you false start, you have this,
- 8:24this is the penalty.
- 8:25If you have this, this is the penalty.
- 8:28Something a little bit more
- 8:29clear like that would be
- 8:30nice in terms of exactly
- 8:32what is the penalty for
- 8:33that many or for that rule being broken.
- 8:37Yeah.
- 8:39We should be used to no
- 8:40transparency by now as much
- 8:42as we want it and need it.
- 8:45Yeah, on both of those.
- 8:47I have comments on both of those points.
- 8:51Like, Carolyn, like,
- 8:52what does a false start get you?
- 8:53Five seconds.
- 8:54What does... My issue is degree.
- 8:58And it seems to be kind of
- 8:59arbitrary this year.
- 9:01Like, they wrote, like, 15 to 40%.
- 9:03Like,
- 9:04who even knows what you're getting
- 9:05for what?
- 9:05Yeah.
- 9:07I personally feel like
- 9:08different movements deserve,
- 9:11and this gets into a super
- 9:12arbitrary point.
- 9:13So I understand it's
- 9:14probably like nearly impossible, but.
- 9:17someone not like completely
- 9:20not opening their hips and
- 9:21just getting up like at a
- 9:2445 degree angle on the box
- 9:25and going right back down
- 9:26without even trying to like
- 9:28put one of the other leg
- 9:29barely on the box is a
- 9:31completely different rep
- 9:32than a slightly soft knee
- 9:34where you actually like stood up.
- 9:36And the degree of not
- 9:38completing that rep and the
- 9:40ensuing fatigue is, is impacted.
- 9:44And like, I get it.
- 9:45It's like, you,
- 9:47how do you make those penalties?
- 9:48But like a missed double
- 9:49under is not the same as a
- 9:51push away ring muscle up.
- 9:53No rep.
- 9:53Like, I'm sorry.
- 9:54They're completely different,
- 9:56different things.
- 9:57And like,
- 9:58So like not,
- 10:01not getting shoulders back on
- 10:02a top of a box step up is, isn't like,
- 10:06isn't really where the
- 10:08movement fatigue is felt.
- 10:10So it's just, I don't know.
- 10:12I do,
- 10:12there is just degrees to the
- 10:14penalties and I understand
- 10:15that that's a realm that we
- 10:16probably can't touch.
- 10:17yeah uh it's just really
- 10:19hard to see I just kind of
- 10:20like look at everyone's
- 10:21writing online oh like the
- 10:22head can't look down the
- 10:23head can look down that's
- 10:25not where the issue is if
- 10:26you try to extend your hips
- 10:28your shoulders are not
- 10:29forward they're just not
- 10:31like if you finish your hip
- 10:32extensions your shoulders
- 10:33are in line it's not that
- 10:35hard of a standard to move like to do um
- 10:38Like people are like, Oh,
- 10:38that movement should not be online.
- 10:40It should have been a box step over maybe,
- 10:42but that was the movement.
- 10:44And I redid the workout
- 10:46because I did not like my
- 10:49original first reps.
- 10:51Like I was still a little
- 10:51bit over and I was like,
- 10:53know that I know that the
- 10:54shoulders need to be right in line.
- 10:56Cause I was giving a side
- 10:57angle of that movement and I was like,
- 11:00I have to redo it.
- 11:00So the next time I did it,
- 11:02opened up the hips,
- 11:03every single rep and like
- 11:05the shoulders fall back.
- 11:06Like I'm still looking at the box,
- 11:07but my shoulders are back.
- 11:10Everything is lined up.
- 11:12Um, like I don't think the,
- 11:15the standard is that difficult.
- 11:17I think a lot of people kind
- 11:18of treated it as a pistol
- 11:20where like they're finishing that one leg,
- 11:23especially if they're on
- 11:23the corner of the box and
- 11:24they're just tapping kind
- 11:26of like a pistol,
- 11:26like you're just done with
- 11:27that one and then you're
- 11:28kind of going the other
- 11:28side and the block step up
- 11:31is not a pistol in the
- 11:32sense that you have to have both feet up,
- 11:35both feet extend.
- 11:37And like some people are
- 11:37just finishing the one hip
- 11:39and the other one's tapping
- 11:40to come back down and it's
- 11:42just kind of treated as a
- 11:43pistol and it's not.
- 11:44that non-working leg was a
- 11:46major issue in a lot of videos I saw.
- 11:49So Andrew Sten says,
- 11:50CrossFit needs to be clear,
- 11:52needs clear set penalties, not a range.
- 11:54The rule book says 15 to 40%.
- 11:57I want to agree with this with an example.
- 12:00Years ago,
- 12:01the NFL had two different
- 12:05face-masking penalties,
- 12:07a 5-yard and a 15-yard,
- 12:09and it was up to the
- 12:09discretion of the referee.
- 12:12It became so inconsistent,
- 12:14they did away with that and
- 12:15said it's only 15 yards now.
- 12:19Right?
- 12:20So pro sports recognize that
- 12:22in the heat of the battle,
- 12:23it's hard to judge one or the other.
- 12:27let's just make it one and
- 12:28make it consistent across
- 12:29the board yeah yeah he's
- 12:35not wrong there like I
- 12:37that's where I'm saying
- 12:38like it's be there while I
- 12:39think there's degrees I i
- 12:41do realize it's probably
- 12:42impossible to implement but
- 12:43when he says a no rep is a no rep
- 12:46There's something to be said
- 12:48for what we have watched in
- 12:51this sport for years and
- 12:54what we watch happen live.
- 12:56And then what I watched like
- 12:57Pat Belner get no rep for.
- 12:59I, that personally, I don't,
- 13:02I don't think that would
- 13:03have been no rep at the games.
- 13:06I've seen clear no reps from other.
- 13:09I think he would get fixed one time.
- 13:11It would be no rep.
- 13:12And then he would fix it.
- 13:13That that's the thing with
- 13:14the in-person competition is,
- 13:16And like props to Pat for
- 13:18putting his whole video up
- 13:20because Pat's one of the best movers,
- 13:23we know that.
- 13:24But when I looked at the video, I was like,
- 13:26I do see what the judges see.
- 13:29And I saw the soft knee,
- 13:30I saw the hips not fully extended.
- 13:33And this has nothing to do
- 13:35against Pat's character and
- 13:36stuff like that.
- 13:37Like I've seen posts where
- 13:38people feel like we think
- 13:40that they're cheating and
- 13:41stuff like that.
- 13:41It has nothing to do with that.
- 13:43Like we're moving fast.
- 13:44People were on the wrong side of the line.
- 13:47And then they go and post
- 13:48one rep on their story or
- 13:50one rep or two reps on their post.
- 13:52And it's their best rep.
- 13:53And it's like, show me your full video.
- 13:56Right.
- 13:57Show me your full video.
- 13:58Then I'll see.
- 13:59But like most of the videos I've seen,
- 14:02I have seen the penalty and I'm like,
- 14:05I do see what the team has judged.
- 14:09Do I think the penalty fits the crime?
- 14:14That's where I think it's harsh, right?
- 14:15Like I think most of them I
- 14:17would have taken less reps away,
- 14:20but I can't deny and say
- 14:21that those reps were to the standards.
- 14:25think for the ones that I've
- 14:26seen I'm like yeah it's a
- 14:29penalty like I wish I could
- 14:32find it kelly stone at some
- 14:35point posted the email she
- 14:37got after her appeal was denied
- 14:41And if you read the email,
- 14:42that email says her sixth rep was good.
- 14:46And which one did she post?
- 14:47You can hear the judge saying six, seven,
- 14:50like those.
- 14:51That's the rep that the
- 14:52games team literally says was good.
- 14:56And I wanted to post and I'm like,
- 15:00what I wanted to point out
- 15:01is what you just said in the email.
- 15:03They said,
- 15:03this is not a judge on your character.
- 15:07This is just we evaluated the reps,
- 15:10made a decision based on the rep itself.
- 15:15We know you worked hard.
- 15:16We know you did all this stuff.
- 15:21I have been critical of
- 15:24CrossFit in their
- 15:25communications a lot in the
- 15:27last four years on this show.
- 15:30Kudos to whoever wrote that email.
- 15:33It was very well written,
- 15:34explained it in detail what was good.
- 15:38If you want to reference
- 15:39what a good rep is, go to Rep 6.
- 15:42If you want to – the rest
- 15:44we've held in question,
- 15:45and we're upholding your 165.
- 15:46Yeah.
- 15:47Yeah,
- 15:52it's just like the amount that it
- 15:54would drop people.
- 15:55I was like – like my heart
- 15:57feels for someone like Paige.
- 15:58I don't know if she has had any –
- 16:02communication on her appeal
- 16:04or whatever but like
- 16:05there's no way that she's
- 16:07that far down on the
- 16:09leaderboard right like it's
- 16:11just I think some of the
- 16:13penalties I wish I wish it
- 16:14wasn't a percentage and it
- 16:15was just like this rep is
- 16:17bad so we're gonna take
- 16:18that rep that like versus
- 16:23A percentage.
- 16:23I don't know how,
- 16:24cause it's like what half a
- 16:26second to open up your hips.
- 16:27Like, I don't know if you could say like,
- 16:29let's say one second, a bad rep,
- 16:30look at the time it takes
- 16:32for people to do reps.
- 16:33And I don't know if that would even work.
- 16:35I don't know how that would work,
- 16:36but it seems like the reps
- 16:39penalty is kind of absurd.
- 16:42I agree.
- 16:42That's, that's where my struggle comes in.
- 16:44I, I,
- 16:46In going through this,
- 16:48I tried to list what are
- 16:52the issues that CrossFit is
- 16:54facing with quarterfinals at this point?
- 16:57Money and time, probably most importantly.
- 17:00They started this now.
- 17:03They just brought in a ton
- 17:04of extra cash by doing this.
- 17:06A lot of people's comments have been,
- 17:09They shouldn't let 25 percent in.
- 17:10We got to go back to 10 or
- 17:12even 5 percent need to be in.
- 17:13We know that's probably not
- 17:15even going to be a
- 17:16resolution that they're
- 17:16even going to look at
- 17:17because they just got this
- 17:18influx of cash.
- 17:20And so I think that
- 17:21monetarily is a big thing
- 17:23we need to somehow
- 17:24brainstorm around and time small team.
- 17:26Right.
- 17:27They don't have the time to
- 17:29review that many videos.
- 17:30I would say I would argue
- 17:31the third thing is probably like control.
- 17:35we are,
- 17:36this goes back to what Andrew was
- 17:37saying with transparency.
- 17:38We're very aware that like,
- 17:40it almost seems they want
- 17:41to be secretive so that
- 17:42they can make the decisions
- 17:43that they want to make to
- 17:44like get the results that they want to.
- 17:46And I, and I could be completely wrong,
- 17:49but why people get so
- 17:50frustrated is the lack of transparency.
- 17:53And there's just not enough
- 17:54communication on.
- 17:56So I like for 0.1 and one
- 18:00specifically monetarily, I feel like
- 18:04I feel like what they need to do,
- 18:05go ahead and allow the 25% in out of,
- 18:09out of the open.
- 18:10And it's like,
- 18:11maybe we set it to $25 to
- 18:13compete and it's to compete,
- 18:15to get on a leaderboard.
- 18:17And it would be everyone
- 18:18that signs up would be on
- 18:19that leaderboard.
- 18:20Now, do you want to video?
- 18:21Cause I know there's a lot
- 18:22of people who don't want to
- 18:23want that hassle.
- 18:24Do you want a video and do
- 18:25you want a real reviewed
- 18:26shot at making it to either
- 18:29masters or indie?
- 18:29Okay.
- 18:30That one's going to be like 60 bucks.
- 18:31Maybe we find us a difference.
- 18:33Okay.
- 18:34So if you're on this leaderboard,
- 18:37It's only the people who are
- 18:38going to submit videos.
- 18:39You cannot submit a score
- 18:42without a video in there.
- 18:45And they will all go pop.
- 18:47public at the close of the
- 18:49score submissions that
- 18:51leaderboard is a video
- 18:52leaderboard that will be
- 18:54public to everybody at the
- 18:55end everyone else is on the
- 18:57other one same with those
- 18:58people so that everyone
- 19:00that just participated
- 19:01could possibly see well
- 19:02shoot I was like only 20
- 19:04spots out like maybe next
- 19:06year I should sign up for
- 19:07the other one um it can't
- 19:09be two separate
- 19:09leaderboards there needs to
- 19:11be the the one but I feel
- 19:13like that way the
- 19:15These hundreds of people who
- 19:16don't even have a video,
- 19:18that page is now below,
- 19:19wouldn't be on this.
- 19:21She wouldn't even be up
- 19:22against those people in this situation.
- 19:24She would only be up against,
- 19:25and it could be 400 people.
- 19:27And again,
- 19:28that's why it needs to go public.
- 19:30And they're a small team.
- 19:32So point two, small team,
- 19:34make another influx of cash
- 19:36because nobody's going to
- 19:37sign up for the judge's
- 19:38course next year because it
- 19:40was completely pointless.
- 19:41Right.
- 19:43you make that leaderboard
- 19:45judgeable online by anyone
- 19:47who's done the judges
- 19:48course and enough get flagged,
- 19:50then it gets the deep review.
- 19:54And so you've made more
- 19:55money on a little bit
- 19:56higher costs for signup.
- 19:58You've made more money on
- 19:58the judges review.
- 20:00Like there's,
- 20:01there's ways that they can be
- 20:03a little more transparent
- 20:05and get a little bit more
- 20:06professionalism out of this sport,
- 20:08but they need to like
- 20:10relinquish a little bit of control.
- 20:16I agree.
- 20:17I love the idea.
- 20:23Yeah.
- 20:24I don't think having two
- 20:26separate leaderboards will
- 20:27ever happen in the minds of CrossFit.
- 20:30I understand why, and I like your idea.
- 20:34I'm just telling you,
- 20:35without a significant
- 20:36administrative change,
- 20:38I don't see that happening.
- 20:41Well, so...
- 20:43who just posted, somebody just posted,
- 20:45Andrew posted,
- 20:46if you don't submit a video with your,
- 20:48like he's saying,
- 20:49just if you don't submit a video period,
- 20:52you are removed from the leaderboard.
- 20:53I have seen comments all over about that,
- 20:56about people saying, I don't want,
- 20:59I don't want to do that.
- 21:00I don't want to submit a leaderboard.
- 21:01I don't want to submit a video.
- 21:02I don't want to deal with
- 21:03the hassle of it.
- 21:04I just want to pay, see where I fall and,
- 21:06and,
- 21:08The second you make videos a requirement,
- 21:11for one,
- 21:12they're going to be garbage
- 21:13videos unless you're
- 21:14actually reviewing them all.
- 21:15They're going to be a clip
- 21:16of somebody cooking dinner
- 21:19for five minutes.
- 21:24And you're going to lose
- 21:25people that don't want that
- 21:27hassle signing up.
- 21:29So you've just lost money
- 21:30because you've said this is
- 21:31the requirement.
- 21:34It makes it more professional,
- 21:35but it makes it less inclusive.
- 21:37That's the thing, right?
- 21:39And it's finding that
- 21:39balance in CrossFit between
- 21:42the professional side of
- 21:43the sport and the participation side.
- 21:45Because like you said,
- 21:46some people won't put their
- 21:47videos and they're like, no,
- 21:49I won't sign up now because
- 21:51I don't want to get torn to pieces by X,
- 21:54Y, and Z. But even in the open,
- 21:57you had people that have
- 22:00their videos and they never
- 22:01get looked at anyways.
- 22:03So I don't know if it fully fixes,
- 22:05but at least at the top of
- 22:06the leaderboard, it would.
- 22:08And I think people would
- 22:09move better knowing that
- 22:10their video is public.
- 22:12A hundred percent.
- 22:13Whether or not I'm going to
- 22:16be posting this,
- 22:17people are going to see what I move like.
- 22:19I better move well.
- 22:21Yep.
- 22:22So early in my gosh,
- 22:25we have a lot ton of people on tonight,
- 22:27which is awesome,
- 22:27but the comments are coming in so fast.
- 22:30Um, there was a comment earlier.
- 22:32Do you think this is a one
- 22:33year issue or do you think
- 22:36this is going to continue
- 22:37year after year?
- 22:38Do you think this is the warning in my,
- 22:41I'm going to put it in my words.
- 22:43Do you think this was the warning shot?
- 22:45We're going to put the
- 22:46hammer down this year and
- 22:47then everybody's videos are
- 22:49going to be much better going forward.
- 22:52I thought they had a good warning,
- 22:54like the one year where
- 22:56they had the pistols and like,
- 22:57that was a warning too.
- 22:58And then people went back to
- 23:00moving like they normally
- 23:02do when no one's watching.
- 23:04Um, I don't know.
- 23:06I just think people have to
- 23:07be a little bit more careful of, you know,
- 23:11watching their video over looking,
- 23:14you know,
- 23:14having someone else look it over.
- 23:16Does this meet the standard
- 23:18and do I have to redo it too?
- 23:20And just taking a little bit
- 23:22more personal
- 23:22accountability for the
- 23:26movement standards.
- 23:30Hopefully it cleans it up, though.
- 23:32I'm hoping.
- 23:32But they definitely had
- 23:34harsh penalties this year.
- 23:38It's just nerve-wracking to even wait.
- 23:40Even though you know you move well,
- 23:42you're just waiting on the email.
- 23:44Oh, for sure.
- 23:45Yeah.
- 23:46I feel like there's a...
- 23:49line where it's almost like,
- 23:51do I just move ridiculously fast,
- 23:54ridiculously shitty and
- 23:57take a 20% penalty?
- 23:59And, and like, that's the thing.
- 24:01Tia's score was so high that
- 24:02she's only an eighth and it
- 24:03doesn't even matter.
- 24:05Um, so like at some point, so in like his,
- 24:08Hiller brought this up,
- 24:09like he was there and he
- 24:10slowed bill down and did he
- 24:12do him a disservice?
- 24:13Cause he got a double hit.
- 24:14I feel like that is a real
- 24:16struggle in my mind.
- 24:19I struggle with it with Jim.
- 24:20Cause I am,
- 24:22I know how everyone in that
- 24:24bracket moves.
- 24:25And again, until things are transparent,
- 24:30you aren't going to get a
- 24:32sweeping change.
- 24:38So just to clarify,
- 24:40Andrew Hiller told Bill
- 24:41Leahy to slow down his reps
- 24:43and redo them because he
- 24:45was afraid he would take a hit.
- 24:48Analyzing it after the fact,
- 24:50he feels like if he would
- 24:51have went faster taking the hit,
- 24:54he would have been in a
- 24:55better place today than he
- 24:58was after Andrew told him to slow down.
- 25:02Yep.
- 25:03And so I ask you, you know,
- 25:04Andrew said that workout itself is,
- 25:08And I think this is bigger
- 25:09than just make it a step over.
- 25:11But he said when you're
- 25:13taking a Ferrari and it has
- 25:15a hard curve in it,
- 25:17it's very hard to hit that
- 25:20movement at the curve.
- 25:22A lot of people are going to crash.
- 25:24And when you're trying to move fast,
- 25:27get up and down on that box,
- 25:29that you take that curve in
- 25:30a way that's a little bit dangerous.
- 25:33And that's where the extension is.
- 25:35I'm not a high-level athlete.
- 25:37I don't understand Ferrari and NASCAR.
- 25:41So I ask you,
- 25:43is that a real perception for
- 25:46you as an elite athlete?
- 25:51Well, what's the saying?
- 25:54Slow is smooth, smooth is fast?
- 25:58I don't think the box
- 25:59step-up is the same thing as an air squat,
- 26:02for instance,
- 26:03on how fast someone can move.
- 26:06finish their like hip extension.
- 26:08I still think the fact that
- 26:10you have double the weights, yes,
- 26:11it drags your shoulders a
- 26:12little bit forward.
- 26:13But again,
- 26:14if you finish your hip extension,
- 26:16I don't think it's as much
- 26:17as the Ferrari as other
- 26:19movements that we can see,
- 26:21like the pistol that's very fast,
- 26:23where are you putting your
- 26:24foot down before you're finishing?
- 26:26I think that there that it's
- 26:28still a movement that
- 26:30that can stay online,
- 26:32like in an online competition.
- 26:34Like when we think about a
- 26:34movement that you don't
- 26:35want to see online,
- 26:36like an air squat would be
- 26:38pretty fast for some people.
- 26:41Right.
- 26:42Yeah.
- 26:43I think it's a very doable standard.
- 26:49Yeah.
- 26:49Yeah.
- 26:51Like I was still able to get
- 26:5224 reps and I'm not very
- 26:54tall and I shot my hips forward.
- 27:00And when you said that at
- 27:01the beginning of the show,
- 27:02it made me think that as an elite athlete,
- 27:06and you have athleticism,
- 27:10you know what you have to
- 27:11adjust to go as fast as you
- 27:13can and stay within the law.
- 27:19A NASCAR driver knows that
- 27:21this bend coming up,
- 27:22how fast he can take it and
- 27:24still remain in his line.
- 27:31Yeah.
- 27:35The thing,
- 27:35the thing that's tough is the
- 27:38slowing down of the videos, right?
- 27:40When you're online,
- 27:40it's like the video review
- 27:42versus the live in person
- 27:44that that's the difficult part.
- 27:45The fact that you can slow it down,
- 27:47zoom in, slow it down, zoom in.
- 27:50At what point do we allow
- 27:52just natural eye and like
- 27:56judgment to be called?
- 27:58Um,
- 28:00I absolutely don't think
- 28:01there should be slowdowns.
- 28:04The thing that's difficult
- 28:05is in-person competitions,
- 28:06we can never use a video to
- 28:08justify a rep.
- 28:09And it's like, we can have it on video.
- 28:11We can slow it down.
- 28:13That's another issue, too.
- 28:14I mean,
- 28:14it would take forever for the
- 28:15appeals for an online competition.
- 28:17But yeah,
- 28:21that's the thing that's hard
- 28:23about online is the fact
- 28:24that you can zoom in,
- 28:26slow down to whatever speed.
- 28:29Sarah,
- 28:29Carolyn did not receive any penalties,
- 28:31and all four workouts are validated.
- 28:35Just to catch you up.
- 28:39Get those videos posted, girl.
- 28:40Let's see what a good rep is.
- 28:42Show us the standard.
- 28:43I will.
- 28:44People need to know.
- 28:47D. Reed asked if it was hips, knees,
- 28:50head position.
- 28:53Yeah, hips and knees is what I've heard.
- 28:54I've heard the head position,
- 28:56but I have yet to see an
- 28:59actual athlete post an
- 29:02email that said it was
- 29:03purely your head position.
- 29:05I think maybe it was commented on,
- 29:07but I think even in the
- 29:08people that the head position was noted,
- 29:10it was soft knees was the
- 29:12major reasoning behind it.
- 29:14So I feel like the head and hip extension.
- 29:16If you didn't finish your hips,
- 29:17your shoulders are in front,
- 29:18your head can still look down.
- 29:20You finish your hips.
- 29:21Yeah.
- 29:23your shoulders automatically go back.
- 29:25Look back at the Hiller
- 29:26video on the deadlift,
- 29:27just finishing your hips.
- 29:29Like your chest goes up.
- 29:32Like you can still look down
- 29:33at your feet on the, on the box,
- 29:35but your rep is finished,
- 29:38but it's a soft knee.
- 29:39It was the tap kind of like
- 29:41the treating it like a
- 29:42pistol where you finished
- 29:43the one hip and the other
- 29:45hip is the other foot was tapping.
- 29:47And that was the difference.
- 29:48People were treating it like
- 29:49a pistol instead.
- 29:51So let me ask you this.
- 29:52Of all the videos that have made it public,
- 29:55did you see one that was
- 29:56the head only that was not extended?
- 29:58Nope.
- 29:59Nope.
- 30:00Not a one.
- 30:01Like I saw that.
- 30:03Then I've looked at like Pat's.
- 30:04I've looked at Madaris's.
- 30:06I've looked at other people's.
- 30:08None of them had the issue with the head.
- 30:11It was a soft knee.
- 30:13It was the non-working leg.
- 30:16Those were the issues.
- 30:17Or they were still bent over.
- 30:19They did not stand upright.
- 30:21Um, and they, in all honesty,
- 30:23everyone that I've seen was
- 30:25a blatant no rep.
- 30:29Yep.
- 30:31Yeah.
- 30:31Or people post their one or
- 30:33two good reps to their
- 30:34stories or Instagram.
- 30:35And it's like, okay,
- 30:37if you're that confident
- 30:39about your movements,
- 30:40show me your full round.
- 30:41Show me one full minute of your movements.
- 30:45And we'll see if all of them
- 30:46look like that.
- 30:46Because that's the thing is
- 30:48most of them don't have
- 30:49their whole video looking bad.
- 30:51It's just there's a
- 30:52significant amount of reps.
- 30:53I just want to know.
- 30:55I would just like to see how
- 30:56many significant and what is the penalty.
- 30:58Like does the penalty make sense?
- 31:01Was it the whole workout
- 31:02that your hips were like that?
- 31:03Because like Pat had some
- 31:04good reps as well.
- 31:06And then he had some bad reps.
- 31:08So it's like, that's the thing.
- 31:09If you posted it, we could,
- 31:11maybe we'd be in your favor.
- 31:12Maybe we'd be like, you know what?
- 31:13I watched it in real time
- 31:14and I counted 14 bad ones.
- 31:17I would give you a 14 rep penalty,
- 31:18not a 36 rep penalty.
- 31:23Yeah.
- 31:23When I was watching Pat,
- 31:24it was the one leg that
- 31:26seemed to be more no rep than the other.
- 31:30So I think he had a stronger
- 31:31leg and a weaker leg and it, you know,
- 31:34like we all do probably.
- 31:36Yeah.
- 31:39Um, so there's all the,
- 31:41there's so much going on in the comments.
- 31:44Um, our, our,
- 31:46my friend Dex is in the comments.
- 31:48Um, he wants to go back in time.
- 31:49I'm not necessarily, I don't,
- 31:51I am not a big proponent of
- 31:53going back in time.
- 31:54I know.
- 31:55I think we need to learn
- 31:56from this and like move forward.
- 31:58Lana says,
- 31:59would floor plans with camera
- 32:00location have helped?
- 32:02I do think in a way they,
- 32:04they do maybe need to re-release the,
- 32:06like,
- 32:07Purely for everyone having
- 32:10basically the same angle, right?
- 32:11And someone else not being like, oh,
- 32:13that was a terrible angle.
- 32:14That's why I got dinged.
- 32:15I mean,
- 32:15if it's pretty standard what we're
- 32:17looking at,
- 32:19then at least we're all on the
- 32:20same page there.
- 32:23Yeah,
- 32:23like a lot of people had their step
- 32:25ups towards the back, right?
- 32:27And I had this dilemma of like,
- 32:29where do I put my camera in this video?
- 32:30Because I want the camera to
- 32:32see the screen.
- 32:32So like after every round,
- 32:34I had the camera move to
- 32:35the screen in my rest period.
- 32:37But I was like,
- 32:38I want the camera to see the screen,
- 32:39but I also want them to see my step up.
- 32:40So if I have the camera behind me,
- 32:43I can't step up.
- 32:45same way that I'm facing for
- 32:46the row so I had to take an
- 32:48extra little bit to turn
- 32:49around for my first set of
- 32:50step ups and I was like oh
- 32:52this is gonna be slower
- 32:53transitions but like then I
- 32:55gave them exactly that side
- 32:57angle that they probably
- 32:59want to see the hip
- 33:00extension for yeah just for
- 33:04a laugh some of these
- 33:06people never did zumba and it shows
- 33:14Okay, so I like Jamie's solution.
- 33:19I do believe that this is a – I'm hoping.
- 33:25I'm very hopeful that this
- 33:26is a one-year thing.
- 33:28This is, hey, this is our warning shot.
- 33:30You need to make your –
- 33:32because I think that what
- 33:34could have solved all of
- 33:34this is CrossFit coming out and saying,
- 33:37for quarterfinals,
- 33:38we're not joking around.
- 33:41The standard will be the standard.
- 33:43We need to clean up our online game.
- 33:45We are going to rule to the
- 33:48letter of the law.
- 33:49Make sure your videos are clean.
- 33:51Good luck.
- 33:52Let's go.
- 33:53Yeah,
- 33:53like with a smaller field for some of
- 33:55these competitive regions,
- 33:57we're going to be, you know,
- 33:59putting the hammer down to
- 33:59make sure that the 40
- 34:01athletes moving on are
- 34:03adhering to the standards.
- 34:05That's it.
- 34:07Are they though?
- 34:08I mean,
- 34:09I've seen a lot of other video
- 34:11videos that are of other workouts.
- 34:13They aren't even touching
- 34:14that are clearly not
- 34:17meeting the standards.
- 34:19Yeah.
- 34:19I don't think they looked at
- 34:20three and four very much
- 34:22because like both of those
- 34:24were like accepted very fast,
- 34:26like within 20 minutes or
- 34:2830 minutes of each other.
- 34:30like last night.
- 34:31So I don't, I don't know.
- 34:34Is other sports do that,
- 34:36even though they have a rule book,
- 34:38the NFL will come out and say,
- 34:40we are going to make a
- 34:41point of emphasis to look at this, this,
- 34:44and this, this year.
- 34:46And those things,
- 34:46the penalties go up at the
- 34:48beginning of the year until
- 34:49it becomes a little more corrected.
- 34:51And then as the year goes on,
- 34:52it gets better.
- 34:53Right.
- 34:55I agree.
- 34:55I agree with, with PC here that like,
- 34:59You shouldn't have to do that.
- 35:00But if you're going to be
- 35:01completely different in your calls,
- 35:04I think maybe just a warning of like, hey,
- 35:07we're going to be putting
- 35:09the hammer down.
- 35:10And Wad Zombie says,
- 35:12based on CrossFit's online
- 35:13judging history,
- 35:14they should have to state
- 35:15it because this is the
- 35:17first time they've ever
- 35:18followed the standards 100%.
- 35:21I think whatever they told
- 35:23these online review team to watch for,
- 35:27they should have released a
- 35:29statement before we started quarters.
- 35:34That's what you do.
- 35:35You get the briefing at
- 35:36semis and the games, right?
- 35:38Those judges are told what
- 35:39to watch and it's briefed
- 35:41to the athletes.
- 35:43Don't do this.
- 35:43Like, hey, we're focused on this.
- 35:46For one,
- 35:46a statement maybe should have gone
- 35:48out to the AFJ.
- 35:49Maybe the AFJ needs to
- 35:50partner better with
- 35:51CrossFit to get that said to them.
- 35:54And once they knew,
- 35:54maybe they could have put out...
- 35:58And again,
- 35:58it probably goes back to control
- 36:00and communication and transparency,
- 36:02but maybe if we put our trust in the AFJ,
- 36:05and the AFJ looked at the workouts,
- 36:09then got a briefing from CrossFit,
- 36:12and then put a public
- 36:14statement out to all athletes...
- 36:16Is that an unfair advantage, though,
- 36:17for the people that have
- 36:18access to those AFJ?
- 36:20Sure.
- 36:21I don't know that they
- 36:22should be like certified
- 36:23and those videos should
- 36:24just be put through because
- 36:25they had those judges.
- 36:26I don't know if I agree with that.
- 36:26That's a that's a haves and haves not.
- 36:31And only the ones with the
- 36:32money and are getting
- 36:34through because they've, you know,
- 36:36put themselves in a
- 36:37position to get money.
- 36:39But it still comes down to
- 36:41you know you're not online
- 36:42or you know you're not in person.
- 36:43In person,
- 36:44you know you'll get a no rep and
- 36:45you can adjust it.
- 36:46So when you're moving online
- 36:48and you're submitting a video,
- 36:50it goes back to review your
- 36:52video and make sure, well, one,
- 36:55it's playable.
- 36:57And two, like your movements are good.
- 36:59And if you don't feel comfortable,
- 37:00if you keep slowing down a
- 37:02certain rep or two and you
- 37:03have an uneasy feeling about your video,
- 37:06you should probably redo it.
- 37:08And like, that's what I did.
- 37:10I was like,
- 37:11I don't like this one that much.
- 37:12I feel, I feel bad submitting this.
- 37:15We're going to redo it.
- 37:18Lex says, simple.
- 37:19Watch your videos before you submit.
- 37:22Very true.
- 37:24Have someone else look at
- 37:25your video before you submit.
- 37:27I know athletes would have that happen.
- 37:29Yeah.
- 37:35Um, so,
- 37:37So that's that.
- 37:38I don't think we're going to
- 37:39solve anything today.
- 37:40But we spent 40 minutes on that.
- 37:45So let's talk a little bit
- 37:46about Crash Crescendo.
- 37:49It was a cool event where
- 37:50some of the top teams in
- 37:52the sport traveled to Spartansburg,
- 37:55South Carolina, competed this weekend.
- 37:59Mayhem Independence ended up winning that.
- 38:01that competition.
- 38:03And that is the team that
- 38:05qualified for semis out of
- 38:06mayhem with Angelo DiCicco.
- 38:11Sure.
- 38:12Sam, Zoe, and Molly.
- 38:14Yep.
- 38:15All of them.
- 38:15Yeah.
- 38:17Gridhouse came in second.
- 38:19Let's see what happened.
- 38:19Came in third.
- 38:20CrossFit reignited fourth.
- 38:23And Ocean State came in fifth.
- 38:29Huge, huge shout out to my girl,
- 38:31Christine Best,
- 38:33who on the final flip sled
- 38:37injured her knee.
- 38:38I couldn't see if it was a
- 38:41knee or an ankle.
- 38:42It was a knee.
- 38:43I talked to her this evening.
- 38:46She twisted her knee on the one flip sled.
- 38:50She doesn't know what she's
- 38:51actually done yet,
- 38:53but she is able to walk on
- 38:54it at this point.
- 38:56And she's hoping that when
- 38:57the swelling goes down, it'll be okay.
- 39:00But now it's just getting
- 39:01home and then trying to
- 39:02figure out what's up with it.
- 39:05And then her teammate who
- 39:06had to do all the remaining flip sleds.
- 39:08I know.
- 39:09I mean,
- 39:09if you had to pick a teammate that
- 39:11was strong to finish that sled –
- 39:14I'm pretty sure.
- 39:15Christine Middleton, is it?
- 39:18Yeah,
- 39:19Christine or Kristen Middleton is the
- 39:21athlete that you want to
- 39:23just flip the sled for the entire week.
- 39:25Because if that's your weaker athlete,
- 39:28then you're screwed.
- 39:30But yeah,
- 39:32she was impressive that she just
- 39:36carried on.
- 39:36She knew what happened and just like,
- 39:38all right, I got this.
- 39:38Don't worry.
- 39:40I felt bad when she finished
- 39:41and collapsed to the floor
- 39:43and there was nobody from
- 39:44her team available to like
- 39:46congratulate her because
- 39:48they're all worried about
- 39:49Christine's knee.
- 39:51But she was, she was, she,
- 39:55she was well congratulated
- 39:57by other teams when she finished.
- 40:00But that was, that was just,
- 40:02that was pretty impressive.
- 40:03That was impressive thing to watch.
- 40:05It was.
- 40:06Brian did get teared up.
- 40:08That was kind of sad to watch.
- 40:12They had some good events.
- 40:15JR puts on great comps,
- 40:18always has unique elements.
- 40:19I saw the rope on the dumbbells,
- 40:22and I was like, that's cool.
- 40:24He's just always thinking outside the box.
- 40:26This is a great tune-up
- 40:27competition for most of
- 40:30these teams are competing in
- 40:32what, just over a month now,
- 40:34about a month for the East,
- 40:35if they're on the East side.
- 40:39Like if they were doing a
- 40:39regular training weekend at this point,
- 40:41like I don't think it's
- 40:43like that much of like risk of an injury.
- 40:45I think it's far enough away
- 40:46from their competition and
- 40:47it's great experience on a team to see.
- 40:50know where you are and how
- 40:52you work together on these
- 40:53workouts um hands on odd
- 40:56objects worms all those
- 40:59kinds of things that you're
- 40:59going to see at semifinals
- 41:01jr always does a great job
- 41:03and I don't know if you saw
- 41:04carolyn but he announced
- 41:06you as the first games
- 41:07athlete signed up for um
- 41:10crash individual
- 41:12competition in the off
- 41:14season yeah I'm excited
- 41:18I, I, well,
- 41:19I watched it last year and I
- 41:20had FOMO and I was like, next year,
- 41:22I was like,
- 41:22I think this would be a good one in,
- 41:24in my off season.
- 41:25Cause I didn't do any of the
- 41:26off season comps this year.
- 41:27And I was like, looking at that one,
- 41:29I was like, this is the type of comp that,
- 41:31Oh, actually I did the NorCal classic.
- 41:32I'm lying.
- 41:34But I was like, this is the type of.
- 41:36competition that I think
- 41:37would be good experience on
- 41:39some unique elements and
- 41:40some high skill stuff that
- 41:41he programs um so yeah he
- 41:44reached out to me and I was
- 41:46in pedro too or peter I
- 41:47should say from coffee pods
- 41:49and wands um made it happen
- 41:51so I'm super excited yeah
- 41:55patrick clark says you'd
- 41:56you pretty much did rogue
- 41:57too it's true in the
- 41:59shadows of the warehouse yep
- 42:01Oh, Jamie, Jamie did Crescendo or not.
- 42:04Is that right?
- 42:05Crucible.
- 42:06Crucible.
- 42:07I get a mixed up.
- 42:08You did Crucible last year
- 42:09and it was crazy.
- 42:11Like you,
- 42:12you had been on things that you
- 42:13had never been on in your
- 42:14CrossFit career.
- 42:17Yeah.
- 42:17He's got, he's got, I mean,
- 42:19he's got a lot of equipment there.
- 42:20So he's got a lot of
- 42:21available items to use
- 42:23things that I don't have.
- 42:26Yeah.
- 42:26Yeah.
- 42:26That was Lex's text to me.
- 42:28How much stuff does J.R.
- 42:30have at his gym today?
- 42:32She's like, he has everything.
- 42:33And I was like, yep.
- 42:36I feel like the money that
- 42:37he makes on comps is just
- 42:38poured right back into the gym.
- 42:41It's not like pocketed.
- 42:43I feel like what other comps would do.
- 42:45I feel like he's really
- 42:46giving back to making sure
- 42:48his gym has everything needed.
- 42:51What's nice too is he has
- 42:52the two kinds of gym floors, the turf,
- 42:56the regular floor,
- 42:56and then depending on the event,
- 42:58you flip it back and forth,
- 43:00makes a completely different event.
- 43:04So that's pretty cool.
- 43:06So we wanted to finish up
- 43:08with something fun because
- 43:10it's been a stressful week
- 43:11for a lot of people.
- 43:13And that is, um,
- 43:16It's draft week.
- 43:17NFL just had a big draft.
- 43:19We are going to draft our super teams.
- 43:22And the way I presented it
- 43:23to these two is if you're
- 43:25starting a CrossFit super team,
- 43:27who would you start your
- 43:28franchise with in these
- 43:30specialist categories?
- 43:33One male, one female in each category.
- 43:38So the categories are going
- 43:39to be power output, gymnastics, endurance,
- 43:43Olympic lifting, upper body pulling,
- 43:46odd objects, and leadership.
- 43:51Dex is looking for a shout out here.
- 43:55Yeah, Dex the water boy.
- 43:56So we're going to start with power output.
- 44:02And I'll switch it up each time.
- 44:04But this time we'll start with Jamie.
- 44:07Male or female right now?
- 44:09Uh, both we'll do both each time.
- 44:12Okay.
- 44:13So my power output,
- 44:14I will take Dale and pepper.
- 44:18And so this doesn't sound
- 44:20like a great pick,
- 44:21but I have a reason when
- 44:22you see my whole team,
- 44:23I'm going to pick Emma
- 44:23Lawson for my power output.
- 44:27Why Emma Lawson?
- 44:29Well,
- 44:29you gotta wait till I've given you
- 44:30all my people.
- 44:31Okay.
- 44:31Okay.
- 44:31Okay.
- 44:33My power output is going to be Roman.
- 44:36Although I was going back
- 44:37and forth between Hopper as
- 44:38well and Roman and Dallin.
- 44:40And for the females,
- 44:41I'm going to pick Olivia Kerstetter.
- 44:46Okay.
- 44:46I think she can move machines.
- 44:49She can move some big weights.
- 44:51My power output is Dallin
- 44:53Pepper and Laura Horvat.
- 44:58Laura's still young.
- 44:59People forget.
- 45:02Um, and start in two of the youngest,
- 45:05most powerful athletes in the sport.
- 45:07Start there.
- 45:10Kenneth, the lab says Sam dancer,
- 45:12Alex Kazan.
- 45:14Are we talking about power output?
- 45:16Like on machines?
- 45:18I didn't take it fully that way, but yeah,
- 45:22machines I'll take curse there.
- 45:27And this is to start your franchise,
- 45:28right?
- 45:29Horvath.
- 45:31I'm switching to Horvath.
- 45:33I thought Tim Paulson,
- 45:35but I wouldn't want to
- 45:36start a franchise with him.
- 45:38He's at the end of his career.
- 45:39I'd want someone that I have for 10 years,
- 45:42right?
- 45:42So that's why I went that way.
- 45:47Patrick Clark went Gabby and
- 45:48Freyova on the women's side.
- 45:52I almost went Gabby too.
- 45:54I only used each name once on my team.
- 46:02There.
- 46:03Then we go to gymnastics.
- 46:07Are we talking pressing
- 46:10gymnastics or pulling gymnastics?
- 46:15Nobody jumped in our note page.
- 46:17Males, I'm going to pick Victor Hoffer.
- 46:19That's a great one.
- 46:22And woman,
- 46:23I would in general pick Emma Lawson.
- 46:27I want Gazan in terms of
- 46:28pulling if I could.
- 46:30And in terms of handstand gymnastics,
- 46:31it would be Daniel Brandon.
- 46:32But overall,
- 46:33I'm going to pick Emma Lawson
- 46:35and Victor Hoffer.
- 46:37I pick the exact same.
- 46:39Nerds.
- 46:42I pick Pat Vellner and Alexis Raptus.
- 46:46Nice picks.
- 46:46Nice picks.
- 46:47I like it.
- 46:48Kenneth DeLapp picks Vellner and Lowen.
- 46:51Also great picks.
- 46:52Very good.
- 46:53Dee Reed picks Taylor Self and Raptus.
- 46:56Very good as well.
- 46:58There is an upper body pulling category,
- 46:59guys.
- 47:00Is Carolyn allowed to draft herself?
- 47:03Yes.
- 47:04I don't think I'm a
- 47:04specialist in any of these.
- 47:09Wad Zombie picked Colton for
- 47:10every category.
- 47:13One man team.
- 47:16All right.
- 47:16So then we go to endurance.
- 47:19And I'll go first.
- 47:22I have Yonikoski and Emily Rolfe.
- 47:28And both of them kind of
- 47:30break my mold of I want
- 47:31them around for a while,
- 47:32but they're just both so damn good.
- 47:38Am I next?
- 47:40I pick Brent Fikowski and Emily Rolfe.
- 47:45I'm going to pick Yellow Hosta.
- 47:47And...
- 47:52I was deciding between
- 47:53Christy O'Connell or Holta.
- 48:00I'll pick Christy.
- 48:02Bringing them out of retirement?
- 48:04Yeah.
- 48:04I think Christy just ran an
- 48:05ultra marathon.
- 48:06That girl's freaking – I
- 48:09mean Christy is probably
- 48:09the same age as Rolf.
- 48:11Rolf is 34.
- 48:13Kenneth is going to go BKG
- 48:14and bring back Sam Briggs.
- 48:16So I have Sam Briggs.
- 48:18Sam Briggs is who I originally wrote down.
- 48:19You will notice at the end
- 48:21of my list why Sam Briggs
- 48:22is not on my list.
- 48:24Patrick Clark said Adler and Sahir Kaya.
- 48:30Wad Zombie just wants Emily
- 48:31Rolfe as the face of the franchise.
- 48:35Great picks.
- 48:36All right.
- 48:36So then we go to Olympic lifting.
- 48:38Okay.
- 48:39And we're back to Jamie.
- 48:40Okay.
- 48:41I have Jack Farlow and Amanda Barnhart.
- 48:48I'll take Guy,
- 48:50and I'll take Laura Horvath here.
- 48:57So I had Laura here.
- 48:58Actually, I picked Laura, right,
- 49:01for output?
- 49:03No, you picked Kerstetter.
- 49:04Okay, I'll take Kerstetter.
- 49:06Okay, I'll pick Horvath here.
- 49:07Which is funny.
- 49:08I had Laura here.
- 49:09I crossed her off, put Kerstetter here.
- 49:12Good pick.
- 49:13And then I went Jack Farlow.
- 49:17Patrick Clark goes Tola and Middleton.
- 49:21Middleton, yeah.
- 49:22Sarah Cooper, Jack, and Laura.
- 49:25Hannah Black, Matt Fraser.
- 49:28I also thought about Hannah Black on this.
- 49:31For endurance, Dee Reed says Holberg,
- 49:35Lucas Holberg, and Christy.
- 49:39So I think, yeah.
- 49:42Judy Reed says,
- 49:42didn't Tia go to the
- 49:43Olympics for lifting?
- 49:44Yes.
- 49:45Sorry.
- 49:47She's due to retire soon.
- 49:51Wad Zombie Frazier doesn't
- 49:52even like CrossFit anymore.
- 49:57So then we go to upper body pooling.
- 50:01And that is Carolyn to start.
- 50:03Kazan Vellner.
- 50:07I'm winning this draft.
- 50:08I'm sorry.
- 50:09I'm winning.
- 50:09No, no, no, no.
- 50:10I'm winning this draft.
- 50:12No, no, no, no.
- 50:13Look at the quarterfinals
- 50:14and work out three.
- 50:18And I'm going Alex Kazan and
- 50:19Saxon Panczyk.
- 50:22Saxon's a good one.
- 50:24You can't pick Kazan.
- 50:25I picked Kazan.
- 50:26What are you doing?
- 50:28We're repeating all over the place.
- 50:31Yeah.
- 50:33I wrote my list this morning.
- 50:35We can match.
- 50:36We can have the same ones.
- 50:37We can because we're doing it a weird way.
- 50:39Okay.
- 50:42But Saxon Pinchot, don't sleep on him.
- 50:44Look at his time in workout
- 50:45three compared to the world.
- 50:48Agreed.
- 50:48That is a good pick.
- 50:50I pick Taylor Self and Alex Kazan.
- 50:52Yeah, I think Alex is undisputed.
- 50:56Well, Emma Tall crushed that alpaca.
- 51:02Yep, she did.
- 51:04We have Leahy and Kazan.
- 51:06We have Cody Anderson and Kazan.
- 51:08Hmm.
- 51:11Someone just says this draft is wild.
- 51:17Hey, we're just trying to have fun.
- 51:19Yeah.
- 51:19Someone threw in Kelsey Keel for Oli.
- 51:21Very good.
- 51:22Very good pick.
- 51:23Yeah.
- 51:24If she wouldn't have been
- 51:26penalized this week,
- 51:26I would have went with her.
- 51:28Damn.
- 51:29She's back in now.
- 51:30Is she?
- 51:31Yeah, she is.
- 51:35Did she get an appeal or what?
- 51:36She still has some reps off,
- 51:39but I think she's around
- 51:40the 20-something spot.
- 51:41She came back in.
- 51:42Okay.
- 51:43Wow.
- 51:45See,
- 51:46so I would like to hear some of these
- 51:47appeals, too,
- 51:47and look at what people are getting back.
- 51:52All right.
- 51:54Kenneth says Jedediah Snelson.
- 51:58Wonderful.
- 52:00That's great.
- 52:01The guy can pull, that's for sure.
- 52:02Yes.
- 52:03Yes.
- 52:04Um, so then we go to odd out.
- 52:06We're in the last two categories,
- 52:07odd object.
- 52:10And it's, is it me or?
- 52:11I think it's you.
- 52:12Yeah.
- 52:13So I, I, okay, here we go.
- 52:16Sydney McElishan and Nick Matthew.
- 52:22Oh, am I next?
- 52:23I have Nick Matthew and Danny Spiegel.
- 52:28I'm going Brent.
- 52:29Brent.
- 52:34Females odd object.
- 52:40Hmm.
- 52:40I don't even know.
- 52:41I can't believe we haven't
- 52:42named Tia at all.
- 52:45She's just good overall at everything.
- 52:48If I'm starting a franchise,
- 52:49she's at the end of her career.
- 52:50I didn't look at it that way.
- 52:54That's how I looked at it.
- 52:56Yeah, that's fair.
- 52:57It's my team.
- 52:58Yeah.
- 53:03I feel like you need a, I'll pick,
- 53:05I'll pick Spiegel here.
- 53:07You need someone that's athletic.
- 53:08Spiegel's athletic.
- 53:11Okay.
- 53:12You looked at me funny with Sydney.
- 53:15I just,
- 53:15I'm trying to think of an odd
- 53:16object workout that she
- 53:17actually went back to the
- 53:18games leaderboards and
- 53:20looked at odd objects.
- 53:21She does very, very well.
- 53:23She's an amazing puller.
- 53:25I contemplated her for pulling,
- 53:27but I'm trying to think of
- 53:28an odd object workout.
- 53:29What, which one are you thinking of?
- 53:30So different sandbag
- 53:32workouts at the games.
- 53:34She's done well in all of those.
- 53:36Interesting.
- 53:39That's just not the name I
- 53:40would have thought of.
- 53:41I actually did do some research.
- 53:44I pulled up games
- 53:46leaderboards and looked at
- 53:47who did well and what different things.
- 53:49Yeah, I did too.
- 53:52So we finish up with maybe
- 53:54the most interesting one,
- 53:55the person you're going to
- 53:56bring on just for
- 53:57leadership to lead this team to victory.
- 54:01Jamie, go.
- 54:03Rich Froning and I'm picking
- 54:07Carolyn Lambre.
- 54:11She's not even an athlete.
- 54:13Oh, so I was going to ask you that.
- 54:15Does it need to be somebody
- 54:16who's going to compete or
- 54:16is it purely my leadership?
- 54:19Well,
- 54:19I think it's someone that you're
- 54:20going to put it.
- 54:21It's a player coach.
- 54:24Then I pick Carolyn.
- 54:28Okay.
- 54:32I'm between two for females.
- 54:34I'm between Sam Briggs and Carrie Pierce.
- 54:38I'm going to pick... I'm
- 54:42going to pick Sam Briggs.
- 54:44And then for the men, I mean...
- 54:50got any people that I
- 54:51haven't picked right so I
- 54:51can't pick pat or um or
- 54:54brent what do I have left
- 54:59hmm let me pass right now
- 55:05let me think about it go
- 55:06scott go to I had carolyn
- 55:07on my list but I went with ariel owen
- 55:12She was my other one.
- 55:14If I was really picking athlete, athlete.
- 55:16Because a lot of the
- 55:18athletes I've talked to
- 55:19over the years say how she
- 55:20treats them like their mom at the games.
- 55:24I will go with Noah from the chat.
- 55:25I forgot about Noah.
- 55:26That's who mine is.
- 55:29I came back in before you, Scott.
- 55:31Came back in.
- 55:34Dang it.
- 55:35I had Noah written down.
- 55:40I have a rundown, too.
- 55:41I crossed them out and put Rich.
- 55:46Yeah, pick Dylan.
- 55:48Ariel and Dylan are my leadership people.
- 55:50There you go.
- 55:53I think that'd be, well, I don't know.
- 55:58I don't have Brent on my list,
- 55:59so that'd be a good place for him, too.
- 56:01I think Pat would be a great leader.
- 56:03And I don't have Pat on my list yet,
- 56:07either.
- 56:09So I'll go with Vellner.
- 56:10I think you've got to post
- 56:11all three lists on your
- 56:13social media and let the
- 56:14fans also pick their.
- 56:15All right.
- 56:18If you send me your handwritten list,
- 56:20like take a picture of it or something,
- 56:23I'll post them all.
- 56:23And then you guys can vote on which one,
- 56:28which list was the best.
- 56:30I just think it's crazy.
- 56:31T is not on their list or Matt and we have,
- 56:34and those are the two.
- 56:35Yeah, Matt's not even competitive.
- 56:37I don't have a single non
- 56:40North American athlete.
- 56:41They're all American or Canadian.
- 56:43So that doesn't mean I listen,
- 56:46I wanted people that I
- 56:47wanted to compete with and
- 56:50I felt like would be fun to work with.
- 56:52And so it's all people I can
- 56:54understand how they talk
- 56:56and feel like good personalities.
- 56:58So mine are just all in the North America.
- 57:02So Patrick Clark says
- 57:03Chandler would be a good one.
- 57:04Went to a leadership school.
- 57:06Yeah.
- 57:06Maybe one of the best
- 57:07leadership schools out there.
- 57:09And he's a good dude.
- 57:11And he had like Andrea Nistler as leader.
- 57:17I don't know how she has as a leader,
- 57:19but yeah, she's a heck of an athlete.
- 57:24Do you retry?
- 57:25I, whoops.
- 57:27I tried to nominate Matt for leadership.
- 57:32One T. One T. Yeah.
- 57:38So that was fun.
- 57:40And the chat pointed out
- 57:41that I forgot sprint.
- 57:42I forgot overall athlete.
- 57:45So there's room to do some
- 57:47more of this in the future.
- 57:50We'll make up all new
- 57:51categories and we can do it again.
- 57:53I was going to do coach,
- 57:54but I didn't want to put
- 57:55you guys into a weird position.
- 58:01As one of you has a coach
- 58:02that they actually work with.
- 58:04Yeah.
- 58:09Tia for overall athlete.
- 58:15We have a pretty good one
- 58:15right here on the set.
- 58:20That'd be interesting too.
- 58:22There's a difference between
- 58:24athlete and fitness though.
- 58:26There's a huge difference
- 58:27between being an athlete and being fit.
- 58:30Like we talked about this
- 58:31back when Rogue was going on.
- 58:33The athletes showed
- 58:34themselves in that over,
- 58:36that bracketed sprint,
- 58:39like Paige Semenza and
- 58:40Danny Spiegel and Jason Hopper.
- 58:43Like they have a different
- 58:45athleticism than just straight fitness.
- 58:49And it showed a lot at Rogue.
- 58:52Easy, easy as a,
- 58:54as long as he's on dry land,
- 58:56he's an athlete.
- 58:57That's what Corey called it.
- 59:02That's what the teammates are for.
- 59:03They put them in the water.
- 59:06Yeah.
- 59:08So this was fun.
- 59:09We started off serious with
- 59:13some penalties.
- 59:16It is supposed to be finalized tomorrow.
- 59:20Tomorrow.
- 59:22Does it say what time?
- 59:24Do we think they're going to
- 59:25meet the deadline?
- 59:27I don't know.
- 59:30If they really, I mean,
- 59:31they just asked for three
- 59:33and four videos.
- 59:34And I don't know if that was
- 59:34just to like verify the
- 59:37videos are in there or
- 59:38they're going to actually
- 59:39review them and they might
- 59:40want another couple of days.
- 59:42Who knows?
- 59:43Yeah.
- 59:43I don't think they really
- 59:44looked much at three and four.
- 59:44It was just probably looking
- 59:45at the measurements.
- 59:46They glanced a few work,
- 59:47a few movements and like, okay,
- 59:49that's good enough.
- 59:49Nothing stuck out.
- 59:50Like, but there's still, I mean,
- 59:53I haven't heard from like
- 59:54all of the appeals and stuff like that.
- 59:56Like I'd like to see at the end,
- 59:58obviously the next few days.
- 1:00:01All of the penalties and
- 1:00:04still like Freya too with
- 1:00:06her video too waiting to
- 1:00:07see what happens with that one as well.
- 1:00:09I saw Caitlin got hers in.
- 1:00:13So she's back in.
- 1:00:16Caitlin Van Zyl and Freya,
- 1:00:18their scores were missing
- 1:00:19from workout two.
- 1:00:21Caitlin's is now back,
- 1:00:22and she's back in semifinals.
- 1:00:27But a little behind the curtains,
- 1:00:29I started scheduling our
- 1:00:30semifinal interviews,
- 1:00:32which was a very bad move
- 1:00:33before these penalties
- 1:00:35because two of the three
- 1:00:37people I scheduled, I had to cancel.
- 1:00:41Were you just like, you didn't make it?
- 1:00:43Yeah, we're canceling this.
- 1:00:45So before the appeal came back,
- 1:00:48this was my honest feeling as well.
- 1:00:50I don't want you coming on
- 1:00:51the air with a pending appeal.
- 1:00:54Like,
- 1:00:55I don't want that to affect what's
- 1:00:56going on with CrossFit.
- 1:00:58So let's postpone, see where this goes,
- 1:01:01and then we'll make a
- 1:01:02decision from there.
- 1:01:05So I have stopped scheduling
- 1:01:08until this leaderboard becomes final.
- 1:01:11I do have Gabby Spence
- 1:01:12scheduled on Thursday.
- 1:01:16She has not moved this
- 1:01:18entire time and I'm praying
- 1:01:20that that happens.
- 1:01:21So at least have one on the
- 1:01:23books going forward.
- 1:01:28So did you read, I think PC just said,
- 1:01:33did you see Rose Scott's Instagram post?
- 1:01:37I, I didn't see their Instagram posts,
- 1:01:40but I did see that she was,
- 1:01:42her videos were removed or
- 1:01:43she didn't have.
- 1:01:46It says,
- 1:01:47so the email they sent her says
- 1:01:52you did not submit a working video.
- 1:01:54You sent in a video from
- 1:01:552023 and then she goes on
- 1:01:58to show it and it's says
- 1:02:00it's clearly uploaded for 21.
- 1:02:02Oh, it's crazy.
- 1:02:05But then you can see that
- 1:02:06like she uploaded videos in
- 1:02:07the last like six hours that were.
- 1:02:09Oh, did she?
- 1:02:11So maybe she replaced it.
- 1:02:13Maybe.
- 1:02:13I don't know.
- 1:02:14I don't want to spend.
- 1:02:14Yeah.
- 1:02:15But I'll stop talking.
- 1:02:19I don't know.
- 1:02:19I don't know enough.
- 1:02:21We talked about this with
- 1:02:22Tristan on Thursday.
- 1:02:24Patrick Clark said,
- 1:02:25when's the next CrossFit
- 1:02:26press conference?
- 1:02:28Remember when we had those?
- 1:02:30We actually talked about that.
- 1:02:32Because Tristan was like,
- 1:02:33wouldn't it be nice if
- 1:02:34there were press conferences?
- 1:02:35I'm like, there used to be.
- 1:02:37Up until Justin Berg was let go.
- 1:02:40And think what you will about Justin Berg.
- 1:02:42At least we had a press
- 1:02:43conference to ask questions.
- 1:02:46Even if they skirted the answer,
- 1:02:47we got a chance to at least
- 1:02:49address that with them.
- 1:02:51Since he's left,
- 1:02:52we have not had but
- 1:02:54in-person semifinals and
- 1:02:56games press conferences.
- 1:02:58Has it been replaced with
- 1:03:00Dave's weekend review?
- 1:03:02That's what I was kind of wondering.
- 1:03:04But that's not a press conference.
- 1:03:05That is a global chat.
- 1:03:08Yeah.
- 1:03:12Andrew,
- 1:03:12did they remove the male from the
- 1:03:13female 40 to 44?
- 1:03:15They did.
- 1:03:15I think two days ago.
- 1:03:18Just down 12 spots.
- 1:03:21Was someone signed up for him?
- 1:03:23Completely wiped.
- 1:03:24If you type in his name,
- 1:03:26every single score is a zero.
- 1:03:27He's like completely wiped.
- 1:03:29Okay.
- 1:03:29Okay.
- 1:03:31That person.
- 1:03:32Yeah.
- 1:03:33I got, I got it mixed up.
- 1:03:35Oscars.
- 1:03:35I don't know.
- 1:03:37Aaron knew Aaron kept
- 1:03:38watching for him on the leaderboard.
- 1:03:39He was wondering if, yeah.
- 1:03:41Like a dude signed up for the women's.
- 1:03:44He had, he had a score last year.
- 1:03:45He had a picture of himself.
- 1:03:47He made it through the open.
- 1:03:48He did all the quarterfinal workouts.
- 1:03:52Yeah.
- 1:03:54But yes, he's removed.
- 1:03:57Well,
- 1:03:58hopefully the Freya thing gets sorted
- 1:04:00and the Roe Scott one gets sorted too.
- 1:04:04With whatever's going on.
- 1:04:07Well, with that,
- 1:04:07one final thank you for Thickboy for...
- 1:04:10sponsoring the show.
- 1:04:11Um,
- 1:04:12he'll be with us for a couple of months.
- 1:04:14And again,
- 1:04:15Clydesdale merchandise will be
- 1:04:16coming soon, uh,
- 1:04:18to the thick boy website.
- 1:04:20Uh, they're getting the screens ready now.
- 1:04:21Um,
- 1:04:23and we're having t-shirts and tanks on
- 1:04:24the first run.
- 1:04:25It's going to be the new horse logo.
- 1:04:27Uh, the,
- 1:04:29they will come in the colors are blue,
- 1:04:33purple, and, uh, gray.
- 1:04:35Okay.
- 1:04:38so you can use code jamie20

- 1:04:56with that we will catch

- 1:05:03Actually, it'll be on Thursday.
- 1:05:04All right.
- 1:05:06It's everybody later.
- 1:05:07Bye guys.
- 1:05:12And the video.
