- 0:11Hello friends. It's Sean here.
- 0:13It's Monday. It's the 23rd of September, I'm
- 0:17drinking a cup of tea and I hope you are going well.
- 0:20Nothing says it's a new week like sitting down with a hot cup
- 0:24of tea to read the Bible, so I hope that you are well.
- 0:28Thank you for tapping on play and inviting me into your day so
- 0:32that you and I together can finish off this book of Second
- 0:36Corinthians. Yes, this is the last chapter
- 0:38we're going to read today as we hear Paul's final advice and his
- 0:42greeting to his friends there. And then from tomorrow, we are
- 0:46going to go back in time to hear about the story as Israel
- 0:51returns to their homeland, rebuilding things and trying to
- 0:55find out what does life look like after you've been exiled on
- 0:59the other side of the known world.
- 1:01But that friends, more about tomorrow, today, right now, we
- 1:06are going to hear from Paul as we read together Second
- 1:09Corinthians chapter 13. This is the third time I'm
- 1:23coming to visit you. And as the scriptures say, the
- 1:27facts of every case must be established by the testimony of
- 1:30two or three witnesses. I have already warned those who
- 1:34have been sinning when I was there on my second visit.
- 1:37Now I again warned them and all others, just as I did before,
- 1:43that next time I will not spare them.
- 1:46I will give you all the proof you want that Christ speaks
- 1:49through me. Christ is not weak when he deals
- 1:53with you. He is powerful among you.
- 1:56Although he was crucified in weakness, he now lives by the
- 2:00power of God. We too are weak, just as Christ
- 2:04was. But when we deal with you, we
- 2:07will be alive with him, and we'll have God's power.
- 2:12Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine.
- 2:15Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus
- 2:18Christ is among you. If not, you have failed the test
- 2:22of genuine faith. As you test yourselves, I hope
- 2:26you will recognise that we have not failed the test of Apostolic
- 2:30authority. We pray to God that you will not
- 2:34do what is wrong by refusing our correction.
- 2:37I hope we won't need to demonstrate our authority when
- 2:40we arrive. Do the right thing before we
- 2:43come, even if that makes it look like we have failed to
- 2:46demonstrate our authority, for we cannot oppose the truth, but
- 2:50must always stand for the truth. We are glad to seem weak if it
- 2:56helps show that you are actually strong.
- 2:59We pray that you will become mature.
- 3:02I am writing this to you before I come, hoping that I won't need
- 3:06to deal severely with you when I do come, for I want to use the
- 3:11authority the Lord has given me to strengthen you, not to tear
- 3:15you down. Dear brothers and sisters, I
- 3:19close my letter with these last words.
- 3:22Be joyful, grow to maturity, encourage each other, live in
- 3:29harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace
- 3:34will be with you. Greet each other with a sacred
- 3:37kiss. All of God's people here send
- 3:41you their greetings. May the grace of the Lord Jesus
- 3:44Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be
- 3:50with you all. Lord Jesus, we come before you
- 4:04so aware that, ah, we get it wrong so often in our Christian
- 4:08life. We try to live your way.
- 4:11We try to live for you. We try to be faithful to your
- 4:14calling to us, and we make mistake after mistake.
- 4:20But here in these final greetings from Paul, we hear
- 4:24your will for us is that You want us as we grow in maturity
- 4:29in you, to be filled with joy and encouragement and harmony
- 4:36and peace. Our Lord, that you would grow
- 4:40these things in us so that as our hearts grow more to be like
- 4:46yours and you align our spirit and our mentality with you.
- 4:52The way we know this is happening is because we
- 4:55experience more joy and encouragement and harmony and
- 4:59peace. What a wonderful gift it is that
- 5:04you give us. And so, Lord, we do pray that
- 5:09your grace and the love of the Father and the fellowship of the
- 5:13Holy Spirit stays with us today and every day.
- 5:20Amen.
