- 2:22Welcome back to another edition of the Be Forever podcast.
- 2:25My name is Rex 45. What a weekend, Daytona 200.
- 2:32Welcome everyone to the podcast. We'll bring the guys in in a
- 2:35little bit, introduce them, see how their weekend was.
- 2:38But what a weekend a week was for me.
- 2:41Daytona 200 is pretty exciting to be there.
- 2:44It's one thing to be there as a fan, it's a different thing to
- 2:46be there on the other side of it.
- 2:48Very excited about it and can't wait to chop it up with the guys
- 2:51who's good to see Lewis and recent person as much as we do
- 2:56the the this thing. We got a whole bunch of things
- 2:59going on in our lives. So it makes it not always nice
- 3:02to be in the same place at the at the exact same time.
- 3:05So that was pretty cool to say and go chop it up with them and
- 3:08and see what it was. I want to thank all the people
- 3:10for liking for subscribing for commenting.
- 3:15Please continue to do that. It makes what we do easier on
- 3:19our end by just a little bit. So we love the engagement.
- 3:23We love what everyone's been saying and talking about and all
- 3:26that fun stuff. But I'm not going to continue to
- 3:29ramble on about that because we got a lot to talk about in Moto
- 3:32America. We got a lot to talk about in
- 3:34Moto GP World Super Bike and all that fun stuff.
- 3:36So let's bring the people in. What's going on, Louis?
- 3:41How you doing tonight? Hey good Rexy, how nice seeing
- 3:44you again. Been a couple of days since I
- 3:46saw you, but good to see you again.
- 3:49Good time. Anytime we can all get together,
- 3:51it's always fun to just hang out in person, you know?
- 3:54We don't do it too often, but it's cool what happens.
- 3:56No doubt, no doubt, man, for sure.
- 3:59Hopefully you got out there, got out in time and and got to all
- 4:02the the the spots you have to get to.
- 4:05The weather's pretty nice for Daytona, man.
- 4:08Yeah, I was surprised because earlier I was there earlier in
- 4:10the week, we had a bit of rain the week before.
- 4:15We had a little bit of rain in the days leading up to the
- 4:17Daytona. But from the Thursday through
- 4:20the Saturday the the weather was great, man.
- 4:22It was not. It was hot, but it wasn't too
- 4:24hot and it stayed dry. There was a little bit of a
- 4:28breeze. So it was just, you know, it was
- 4:30good, man. I can't complain all.
- 4:33Right, man. We're going to dive into it
- 4:34soon, man, TJ, man. What's good, man?
- 4:37How you doing, man? How's the bean?
- 4:41You know, we got the Sunday daylight saving change, so I
- 4:45feel like now we're back to normal, snow's melting, weather
- 4:49is in the 60s finally, but couple days it's going to go
- 4:52back down. But it's looking good.
- 4:53It's looking good. It was nice watching the day 202
- 4:57hundred for this weekend because you know, no world super bike,
- 5:00no Moto GP. So just to have something on the
- 5:03weekend is definitely good to see now that you know both of
- 5:07America's about to kick off so. No doubt, man, no doubt.
- 5:12I'm a little bit not necessarily disappointed about daylight
- 5:18savings. I mean, I saw that.
- 5:21Where where is it? West Coast of Canada over there.
- 5:24They did away with daylight savings.
- 5:27I don't know if all of Canada did away with it and there's
- 5:30there's something nice about doing away with it.
- 5:32Jamaica did away with it. Some other places have done away
- 5:35with it as well. I don't know if Jamaica ever had
- 5:38it actually. We were just a certain time of
- 5:40the year. We knew we lined up with the US
- 5:42on the East Coast side. What are your thoughts on
- 5:45daylight saving times, guys? Should we?
- 5:48Should the US just, I mean, I know it's been on the ballot.
- 5:51This is the most political, the show we'll ever get it to talk
- 5:53about daylight savings time. But what are your thoughts, man?
- 5:58Is it time for us to just kick this one down the road?
- 6:01End of life start with. DJ Man, I I mean, I'm sick of
- 6:08it. Like I feel like, you know, just
- 6:10live in New England once we once it changes into daylight savings
- 6:14and then it's just like, for me, it's just like dark times, you
- 6:18know, I mean, not dark times, but it's just dark all the time.
- 6:21And and she just can't really get nothing done on my end.
- 6:24And it's just so as soon as we get out, I just feel like it's
- 6:27just you just feel free. And I just think we should get
- 6:30away with it. Like, I mean, I I mean there's a
- 6:33point for it, but I don't see the point.
- 6:37But it was it was for farming back in the day is how I
- 6:39understood it. And we were we were helping the
- 6:42farmers out. Seems like, you know, again,
- 6:44it's not that kind of show. Flip over to the other channel
- 6:48but. Flip over to the Discovery
- 6:51Channel. This isn't our jam.
- 6:53Well, remember, not every state participates in daylight
- 6:56savings. Hawaii and Arizona don't
- 6:58participate in daylight savings, and neither do most of the the
- 7:03American. Islands.
- 7:07Islands, so you know, it's only, it's only the mainland in Alaska
- 7:11and in Alaska it doesn't matter because it's still going to be
- 7:1312 days of night time and 12 days a day and 12 hours of
- 7:16daytime over there because they just in the wrong part of the
- 7:18planet. Nah, I feel you.
- 7:22I feel you there, man. It it it's hopefully we'll we'll
- 7:25get there. I didn't like it this time
- 7:27around. I like it when we fall back.
- 7:28We should just continue to fall back.
- 7:30But I don't think it'll work. Maybe Fat Joe Guys, what America
- 7:37happened, DJ, And hopefully you got to watch it.
- 7:39We were fortunate to be there in person.
- 7:43What are your thoughts? We'll start with Lewis because
- 7:45he, you know, he was on the ground.
- 7:47What are your thoughts with it? I don't know if I asked on the
- 7:51show, did you go last year and what are your thoughts as far as
- 7:55the atmosphere between last year and this year?
- 7:57What are your thoughts man? Yeah, it was there last year.
- 8:00I mean, last year it felt like there were more competitors.
- 8:03I don't know if it's because they moved everybody to the
- 8:05garages on the right side only because last year I think they
- 8:09used garages on both sides. So it felt more spread out and
- 8:12there was more to do. And this year they only use the
- 8:14garages on the right hand side and everybody's kind of
- 8:18cluttered together. And some of the teams were
- 8:20actually in the in a parking lot in the overflow lot because they
- 8:23couldn't even get garages for whatever reason.
- 8:26Like, you know, they, they kind of squeezed it down into that
- 8:29spot. Overall, I think the attendance
- 8:31was close to what it was last year.
- 8:35Like for some reason, I feel last year there was more people,
- 8:37but maybe it was because it was more spread out.
- 8:39So as you walked around, it looked like there was more
- 8:41people. But I felt that there were more
- 8:43people last year than this year actually at the race itself
- 8:48because it's hard to tell who's there for the race and who's
- 8:51there just to use the campgrounds for their trailers
- 8:54to hang out for the weekend. Well, I mean, I was still, you
- 8:59know, I was, I, I was wondering about this, about camping and
- 9:03stuff like that. Can you camp out and get on the
- 9:06premises without having a ticket to entry Enter.
- 9:09You can you you can get infield parking tickets.
- 9:12Only. Only.
- 9:14OK. All right.
- 9:15So you can rent the spot for the week and it it has nothing to do
- 9:18with the events themselves. Right.
- 9:21Well, listen, man, if if that's the case and you know this is
- 9:25more for the people that come to Daytona, man, that's cheap.
- 9:30That's cheap because I I paid $20 a night.
- 9:35I had my own trailer, I had my own amenities, but they do
- 9:38provide bathrooms and shower. So $20 a night is going to be
- 9:41cheaper than a hotel. You got to do your own cooking
- 9:44or figure that out. But still, I mean, at that rate,
- 9:47man, you can't go wrong. Roaches.
- 9:52Exactly. You know what you brought.
- 9:53That's for. Sure.
- 9:54You know, you brought the same around of critters that you're
- 9:56taking with you 'cause I stayed at a sketchy, sketchy hotel,
- 10:01man. Like I told you, in my
- 10:03experience of my hotel, I have never stayed there again.
- 10:07Oh, man, listen, man, I I like having the amenities with me.
- 10:11If you can do it, it's a long good drive, but it's a it's,
- 10:15it's a, it's a nicer piece of mind, TJ, man.
- 10:18What are your thoughts as Reese is getting connected?
- 10:20What are your thoughts on on checking out the 200?
- 10:23We haven't even talked about the race yet.
- 10:24What what are your thoughts overall on the 200 man?
- 10:28I thought it was, you know, actually a pretty good race to
- 10:32see, you know, the obviously Josh Herron trying to go for his
- 10:38fifth Daytona 200 Wayne. So it was exciting to see that.
- 10:42But there's also other riders that I was excited to see out
- 10:45there like Richie Taylor, Darren benders, even out there.
- 10:50So like there's a lot of solid races that could that had a
- 10:55chance to know Blake Davis. But overall I thought the race
- 10:59was pretty, pretty nice. So there's one red flag, but a
- 11:04couple shake UPS between what was it, PJ Jacobson and and Josh
- 11:09Aaron? But it came out into Josh
- 11:12Aaron's hand. You know, he got lucky on that.
- 11:15But you know, it was it was a good race overall.
- 11:19It sucks to see Richie go down and felt like this was his year.
- 11:25But, you know, and it's just, it was an exciting industry.
- 11:30Right it it doesn't seem like it's been anybody's year for a
- 11:33few years. Now he had a better chance, I
- 11:38would say. You know, his, his, his past two
- 11:42faults. You know I.
- 11:43Mean, you know, I think PJ May may disagree with that one man.
- 11:48What's good man? Can you hear us?
- 11:49You know, I don't know where you are in the world.
- 11:51This witness protection program. No, man, I'm in North Carolina.
- 11:57I'm up here near Lewis, not too far from Lewis.
- 12:00OK. All right, man, You might as
- 12:01well pull up in the driveway, man.
- 12:03Let that. Pull this semi right in this
- 12:07driveway. But here you go man, I got
- 12:09something for you. Not like, hey, the DS are run
- 12:12all night. Trust me, I know, I know, I know
- 12:17about that. Good man.
- 12:19What are your thought? We you know, I was just asking
- 12:22the guys their overall thoughts on the weekend and stuff like
- 12:25that. We haven't talked about
- 12:27qualifying and who were the big surprises and then the race or
- 12:31anything like that. But what were your thoughts on
- 12:32the atmosphere? I don't make the assumption that
- 12:35you were there last year between this year, you know what are,
- 12:39you know, anything stood out to you.
- 12:41I mean, I think the weekend overall was good.
- 12:43I mean, I think there was a lot of red flags throughout the
- 12:47weekend. There was a ton of those.
- 12:49But for the most part, I think it was good.
- 12:50There was a lot of new faces, a lot of, you know, people there.
- 12:54The fan base wasn't too bad. I know they did a bunch of
- 12:57advertisement and the races were pretty good to see, you know, to
- 13:03see new faces all in it and to see Kayla up there and be the
- 13:06first woman to actually hit a podium out there in Daytona.
- 13:12Yeah, I mean, I guess let's talk about that.
- 13:14That is the first. I mean, you know, it is we we'll
- 13:17jump back into qualifying and stuff like that.
- 13:20But like, you know, that's pretty impressive.
- 13:23I mean, you know, we've been talking all of last year about
- 13:25Kayla and some of these other riders in the Super sport class.
- 13:28Obviously Heron is is really a super bike racer and it's more
- 13:33than I want. I don't want to say, you know,
- 13:34when people say they got Cheetah bikes.
- 13:36We got a. Cheetah Rider.
- 13:37Because you know, you need, you need, you really need to be up
- 13:41there on the big bikes out of respect at this point, but you
- 13:46know what I mean? For her to be able to do that,
- 13:48you know, I've been on record or at least on this show, so we're
- 13:52on record of saying that I felt like she should have jumped over
- 13:55to the world, the WCR and stuff like that.
- 13:58She's on record of saying she wants to compete with the boys
- 14:01for her to finish third on the podium.
- 14:04Maybe she might have been 5th if if a couple of people stayed up
- 14:08PJ and and and and Richie. But even still, that's a pretty
- 14:12amazing races because there's still a whole what, 32 grid or
- 14:15whatever grid that didn't finish in front of her.
- 14:18So, you know, it's huge. It sounds like she should just,
- 14:22you know, get in where she fit in, which is in the Super court
- 14:25class with the guys. I mean, I Oh, good.
- 14:29No, go ahead, go. Ahead, go ahead.
- 14:32Reese, I mean, no, that's fine. I mean, I I think she's she's
- 14:35growing up, you know, as they say, I think she's definitely
- 14:38growing up. She's she's showing her
- 14:40potential. I know Speeds has said that she
- 14:43has a lot of potential. She's she's willing to work
- 14:45hard. She works hard on our craft from
- 14:48what I understand. And she has a whole racetrack
- 14:49out in the front. And I know she does work with JP
- 14:52out there a lot. So, but she's showing her
- 14:56potential. I mean, she's still got a little
- 14:57bit more growing out to do like anybody else does when they're
- 15:01new or they're they're young. But she's she's coming along
- 15:06very nicely. And, and I think they're group,
- 15:09you know, speeds and JP over there.
- 15:11I think they're grooming that girl very well.
- 15:13And she's she's showing her crap and showing her talent.
- 15:17So I give her 1010 thumbs up, you know.
- 15:21I agree. I agree.
- 15:23TJ, what's your thoughts been on how she did and getting that
- 15:26third place? And, you know, he's funding a
- 15:29lot of a lot of people, a lot of mofos.
- 15:31Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean, I, I agree with Reese.
- 15:36I give her two thumbs up. I mean, this girl's been working
- 15:39hard. You can see it from from way
- 15:41back when. And every year she's only
- 15:45approved, you know, like she's always pulling out the stats,
- 15:48always setting, you know, a trend in.
- 15:51She did really well. I remember last year when she
- 15:53participated in that, she pitted a little early on her first go
- 15:57around. I think the way they had the set
- 15:59up and I'm sure their strategy was way different.
- 16:03And when the race started, excuse me, when the race
- 16:06started, she was, you know, top six, you know, in front of, you
- 16:10know, running with the front and behind her was, you know,
- 16:14separated. So but, you know, she kind of
- 16:16lost her toe and, you know, kept the head in the game.
- 16:19And, you know, racing is racing. She's was fortunate to get that
- 16:23third place. And it's just just a good
- 16:26feeling to see that, you know. But listen, Tji don't know.
- 16:30I mean, I thought Sasquatch was out in like Yellowstone or
- 16:33something like that. You got 2 thumbs and I think
- 16:36Reese said 1010 thumbs. So I don't know if it's the same
- 16:39thing, man, you got some big. Thumbs.
- 16:41Hey man, I did say 10, you know, but I give her a prop, man, you
- 16:44got to give the girl her props. No doubt there.
- 16:49So TJ got some thumbs on them. That's all I'm saying.
- 16:52Numbers guy, what's the game? What are your thoughts on how
- 16:55she did? She did great.
- 16:56You know, I think there was a couple of people that showed up
- 16:58this round that did really well or did better than what most
- 17:02people expected. She was definitely one of those
- 17:04people that I don't think anybody expected her to be on
- 17:07the podium. I think most people expected her
- 17:09to be in that top 10 range, but not necessarily on the podium.
- 17:13But again, this is one of those races where your pit stop
- 17:16strategy and how smooth your pit stop goes and all these other
- 17:20factors come into play. And all of a sudden somebody
- 17:23that was maybe in the lower half of the top 10 is in the upper
- 17:27half in the top ten. Just because you and your team
- 17:30scheduled the pit stops the right way, you manage the tires
- 17:33the right way, kind of everything has to come together
- 17:36for the Daytona. It's not just the rider and pure
- 17:39talent. It's the rider, his team, the
- 17:41tires, the fuel strategy, everything's going to line up.
- 17:44And you know, Josh Herring doing this on a, on a different team
- 17:48that he did last year just shows one thing that the, the team
- 17:52he's on makes this. This team, this Ray Hall team is
- 17:54legit. They have three riders in the
- 17:57top five. That means that their pit stops
- 18:01were on point. That means that they knew
- 18:03exactly what they were doing. And if PJ had not gone down,
- 18:06they could have had four people in the top five.
- 18:09So this Ray Hall team is is legit.
- 18:11This is the real deal. These guys are coming to play
- 18:13and they're coming to play, right?
- 18:15And Kayla, you know, is benefiting from this.
- 18:17You know, it's it's helping her grow her talent.
- 18:20Josh Herman benefited from it because had he been on another
- 18:23team, maybe it didn't work out as well.
- 18:26You know, look at where kind of technically his replacement and
- 18:30Warhorse ended up outside of the top five.
- 18:34You know, could Josh Herron make up that difference?
- 18:37Probably not, because the same issues that they had during the
- 18:41pit stops for that rider could have happened to him, You know,
- 18:43So, you know, a lot of things have to come together here And,
- 18:47and they came together great for Kayla And that, you know, I, I
- 18:49give her a lot of props for being able to benefit and take
- 18:52advantage of the opportunity that was given to her.
- 18:54And, and, and get a bite, get herself out of the podium cause
- 18:57'cause, you know, think about who's right behind her man
- 19:00Darren Binder. That's, that's not a slouch.
- 19:03You know, last time I checked he's a pretty good rider.
- 19:08And and, and I was just going to go to that because I was going
- 19:11to jump into qualifying. Who stood out more?
- 19:15You know, was it Herron? Was it Tyler Scott?
- 19:19You know, Bend Bender, who again, to me was very surprised.
- 19:24And I know when when Petrucci came, Petrucci was to me.
- 19:27And you guys can correct me as far as the analytics was the
- 19:31first rider to me that came over from Moto GP in, in in Bendis
- 19:37case is Moto 2 not going to come over, but to come over and do
- 19:40well right away, come over and like, OK, so there you go.
- 19:44So and, and, and how many and how long ago was that before
- 19:49that? Right.
- 19:50But you know, there's not a lot. There's some other riders that
- 19:53have have come over and hasn't done well over in the US and for
- 19:58Bender to come over who struggled in Moto GP, who also
- 20:01struggled in Moto 2, right? I mean, you know, he did well in
- 20:05Moto 3, but that's why he got that leap to Moto GP, but
- 20:08struggled in both of those categories.
- 20:10And so you don't really know what you're getting in a rider
- 20:13that psychologically, physically, he's the racer,
- 20:16right? You don't know what you get.
- 20:18So for him to come out and and and do what he did and finish
- 20:204th overall, but just to be in the top three in qualifying, to
- 20:24me that was pretty impressive. You know, for a younger Moto 2
- 20:30rider, but again, what we had thoughts on qualifying.
- 20:33Do you guys agree with that? Do you think that, you know,
- 20:36some other riders was Alexandro some of these other guys, you
- 20:41know, surprised you? I will say this, a lot of the
- 20:45fast people were really young this weekend.
- 20:49He's not with PJ. I mean, I'll catch a little bit
- 20:54of the qualifying, but you know, Tyler Scott, obviously I've seen
- 20:57him brace locally, so it was good to see him on the pole and
- 21:04not, not to say not Josh Herring, but you know, I wanted
- 21:07to see somebody else out there. So I really thought Tyler Scott
- 21:11had a chance and I want to see Demario do well.
- 21:16So I mean, I thought the qualifier is pretty tight for
- 21:21the first top three. So, you know, it kind of went
- 21:25either way, but it was good to see and kind of finished the
- 21:28sign the same way. Josh Herring, Talis Scott and I
- 21:32think it was right. What was second?
- 21:37Was it PJ? PJ in.
- 21:42What qualifying? Yeah.
- 21:47I think it was PJ. PJ I.
- 21:50Think it was PJ. So Tara, PJ and and Herod.
- 21:59I mean, go ahead, Reese. I mean, I definitely agree with
- 22:04TJ there. I mean, it was nice to see all
- 22:06the young guys up front. I mean, it was nice to see their
- 22:08hunger that they're still there's still a passion to win
- 22:13the the infamous and famous Daytona for all the young guys
- 22:17and to try to beat the, you know, the veterans as you want
- 22:22to call it, to be up there. And, you know, the one that did
- 22:25stand out to me is Lewis's guy Demario, you know, to be still
- 22:30fresh to be, you know, never really been on like he's been on
- 22:35the track, but he's not in the Super sport category that have
- 22:38that many laps. You know, he did impress me a
- 22:41lot. I knew Ty Scott would be there
- 22:43to party Heron. You knew you know, the the
- 22:46normal front runners would be there, but to see like the young
- 22:49guys, you know, wanting to step up and be there and and take
- 22:53take reign was actually something.
- 22:55You know they even see. You know Blake up there as he
- 22:58was struggling so much in qualifying and still take home a
- 23:02top ten and with Dominic Doyle, you know all the guys that
- 23:05haven't been there. So I I definitely say and that
- 23:09there was something there. So it was.
- 23:11I was very impressed. Yeah, it it, it's pretty.
- 23:15I don't know what the word is, but I was surprised that you
- 23:18know, people like Hick Hickman that you know, these guys, world
- 23:23class winning racers and struggle continues to struggle
- 23:29for him at the Daytona 200 and and some of these other riders
- 23:34as well. Where you got Alexandra come in
- 23:38as as a a rookie on the on the Super sport bike and and is is
- 23:43doing pretty well. So it's pretty crazy to see.
- 23:46Louis, what are your thoughts, man?
- 23:49I mean, I'm going to I'm going to stay on Alessandro's side
- 23:55throughout this entire season. I think of everybody in the top
- 23:58ten and, and and of course Darren Bender is a little bit of
- 24:02a more seasoned rider. He's rating a lot of things and
- 24:06he's on a really good team. So I didn't think he was going
- 24:08to do I I didn't think he was going to finish outside the top
- 24:11ten. Finishing the top 4 was a great
- 24:14result for him. But overall, if I look at the
- 24:16top ten, the the person that impressed me the most is
- 24:18Alessandro. Here's a guy, here's a kid
- 24:21that's a three time Motor America champion on in the Twins
- 24:25Cup twice and on the Kramer Cup last year.
- 24:28He's won 3 championships. The kid steps up to Super Sport,
- 24:32his very first event out-of-the-box.
- 24:34He finishes at 5th place behind just, you know, veterans Josh
- 24:39Herring, her veteran Tyler Scott, veteran Daryl Bender, you
- 24:43know, X Moto, 3X Moto, 2X Moto GP and Caleb.
- 24:46She's been on the bike now for a couple for more for two years.
- 24:50Two years. So you know, for him to come up
- 24:53in his, this is his first race in the first time racing in
- 24:56Daytona in the class. I mean, he did well last year in
- 25:00the Twins Cup, but to finish in 5th place on the same lap, so
- 25:04he's not one lap down. He finished on the same lap as
- 25:07Josh Herron. Like that alone is a huge
- 25:11accomplishment. And I think once now you take
- 25:14the the the unknown, which is the Daytona pit stops out of it.
- 25:19And you just put this kid this straight up race on track where
- 25:22he just has to do this many laps on a set of tires and a set of
- 25:25gas. I think really going to show a
- 25:27lot of people the quality of rider he is, because a lot of
- 25:30people don't realize exactly how good this kid is, man.
- 25:34This kid is the truth. And, and, and he if he stays on
- 25:392 and he stays calm and he keeps his head in the game, you're
- 25:42going to see this kid battling at the front for the entire
- 25:44year. And that, that's pretty dope to,
- 25:48to here and, and I'm looking forward to seeing this season
- 25:54progress. Let's talk, let's talk about
- 25:57Josh and what he did. Let's talk about PJ, the
- 26:00struggles there and, and, and, and Richie, you know, the
- 26:06Daytona 200 is a different animal, right?
- 26:08Because you have to survive the the 57.
- 26:12My I'm, I'm, I think I'm right in the same 57 laps.
- 26:15I know it's in the 50s. You gotta survive as you guys
- 26:18mentioned the pit stops and stuff like that this year, they
- 26:22it was a mandatory three pitch stop.
- 26:24And and so it's not just riding the bike.
- 26:26It's not just the skills, it's how your team work is one
- 26:30overall. Was it playing this day?
- 26:34Because but because it's you know, Josh, did Josh have
- 26:36something to prove? I mean, he he really was just
- 26:39kind of like, let me show you the difference between me and
- 26:42everybody else. That's not what DJ.
- 26:47Yeah, I mean, he, he has the dark horse.
- 26:49I mean, like everybody knows everybody's business, I'm sure.
- 26:53And for for him to just come out and still prove like to get all
- 26:59that news talk, I can still ride and race and and get my, you
- 27:03know, first place. And I'm sure there's a lot on
- 27:07his shoulders. He had a lot to prove.
- 27:09But yeah, it's just a a big milestone to win it four years
- 27:13in a row and to have a total of five.
- 27:16Like he's basically up there with the the top.
- 27:19So yeah, there was a big, big race for Josh Harry and and he
- 27:26got the blueprint basically. I mean, he's done it so many
- 27:29times and he knows exactly what to do.
- 27:32He just got to have the right team behind him and just got to,
- 27:37you know, make sure he stays ahead of everybody.
- 27:39I think the biggest thing was him getting out front.
- 27:42So as long as he was on the front row, I'm sure he was
- 27:44satisfied. But each time, like after the
- 27:47first red flag, he's still able to get out front and that's what
- 27:52you want to basically try to wear people out, I guess.
- 27:56But you know, he paced himself throughout the 57 lasso or
- 28:01everything so. Right, right.
- 28:04Reese man, what are your thoughts?
- 28:05I mean, he he did seem to play it cool when he had to.
- 28:09And he looks like, you know, it's the kind of right, right
- 28:13racer you'd want on on a bike in a situation like that.
- 28:16He's tied with the most wins, you know, at consecutive wins
- 28:20and it's, it's pretty impressive.
- 28:22I didn't think he was going to be able to do it at the
- 28:24beginning of the of, of, of the weekend.
- 28:27What are your thoughts man? I mean, for what he's done over
- 28:31the weekend, I mean, I think he did very well.
- 28:35I mean, he's got that track down back.
- 28:38I mean, he's definitely, he's got it down.
- 28:39He definitely knows that track inside it out.
- 28:42You know, so it's like he almost had like a an axe to grind
- 28:48versus anybody else like he had. He was out to prove which you
- 28:53know, as anybody that's very competitive as himself.
- 28:55You know, he knows Josh very well.
- 28:57He is very competitive. So when you have that axe to
- 29:00grind, you're you're out to prove somebody wrong.
- 29:04And you know that he's still able to do what he's able to do
- 29:07at at at now at his age and as a well seasoned veteran like, you
- 29:13know, Josh's not a young pup no more.
- 29:16He's older. So you know, he he has things to
- 29:18prove and want to show, especially to you know, the
- 29:21team, the the new team and his old team that let him go all.
- 29:25Right, right. Lewis, man, what are your
- 29:28thoughts? You know, we've seen other
- 29:32riders, I find new life after not being able to hold on to
- 29:39their seat and stuff like that. So this is a good way for a guy
- 29:43to say, hey, look man, I still can ride.
- 29:45I'm still fast, you know. I mean, it's a good platform to
- 29:52him to keep himself relevant to see if a super bike seat opens
- 29:56up next year or even if a super bike seat becomes available this
- 29:59year. If somebody gets hurt and
- 30:01there's an opportunity for him to slide in, I think that's a
- 30:05good way for him to go about it to keep himself relevant, to
- 30:07keep himself in the, in the, in the racing atmosphere in the
- 30:12pit. So, you know, I think it's good
- 30:14for him. I at the same time, you know, I
- 30:16was, I was kind of a little bit happy at the end of last year
- 30:20when I'm not going to call them sandbaggers because it's not
- 30:24like they had a chance. But you know, PJ and Schultz, I
- 30:28mean, these are super bike guys and they're racing against 17
- 30:32year olds. And it's good because the 17
- 30:35year olds see exactly what the level is in super bike.
- 30:37So they have to keep up to it. But at a certain point in like
- 30:40you do want to have super, you know, super sport, younger
- 30:44people in super sport competing with each other and bringing up
- 30:47that next era, that next generation of what will be our
- 30:52super bike people, What will be the people that we cheer for?
- 30:56And if we keep getting this round Robin where super bike
- 30:59guys get dropped to Super Sport and now they clean up in Super
- 31:03sport because they should, because they're veterans,
- 31:06they've won. I mean, Josh Herman finished
- 31:08what, second in the championship last year in Super bike.
- 31:12If he finishes 8th this year in Super sport, that's not a good
- 31:15look for him. It's you know, it's expected for
- 31:18him to finish first or second this year in super sport because
- 31:21he should because that's where he's at.
- 31:23That's where his level is. So, you know, I, if he finishes
- 31:27first, like, yeah, it's a championship, but I'm, I'm going
- 31:31to be looking at who finishes second to because to me, that's
- 31:34the future. Right, right.
- 31:37No, I I agree. And I've, I've said this before,
- 31:40it will other riders coming from top class and coming down and
- 31:44and and taking it not necessary advantage, but it is an
- 31:46advantage because you have a you, you have more experience
- 31:49than somebody who's never gone. It's not like everyone in the
- 31:51Super super sport class has gone to super bike for a few seasons
- 31:54and came back down. It's a different experience and
- 31:58and, and different reaction time.
- 32:01You know, Kayla was not the only female to race in the Daytona
- 32:04200, the youngest female ever, Ella Drea race.
- 32:08She finished 26 overall, look pretty good on the NBA.
- 32:13She finished 16th overall. 16th overall, Yeah, no.
- 32:16My bad. I'm I'm I'm looking at the
- 32:18championship sheet here and she's oh, you know why?
- 32:21Because there might be some other races, but it said 26 by
- 32:24her name. But anyway, we'll, we'll go what
- 32:26you what you said 16th overall even better.
- 32:29And, and this is off of Moto America's website, so.
- 32:33And and it's on an envy Augusta, so that should count by about 10
- 32:36more spots because I'm amazed that bike didn't blow up.
- 32:40It looks bad. I'm a fan of envy.
- 32:41Come on, don't do that. Don't do.
- 32:42That I am also but I've never had a good experiences with
- 32:45them. They've taken a lot of trips to
- 32:48the mechanic and taken months to fix every time.
- 32:51So I'm just her and her brother both finished in the top, you
- 32:56know, 12 and 16, both on NBA Augustus.
- 32:59So both of them did it, you know, the first brother and
- 33:02sister to do this race together, first brother and sister to
- 33:05finish in the top 21st 2 NBA Augustus to finish a race and
- 33:09then without blowing up outside of the top 20.
- 33:12Yeah, a lot of firsts. A lot of firsts, but that's
- 33:15pretty impressive, right? I mean, you know, we got some
- 33:17big solid names on the grid and stuff like that.
- 33:21And, and for her as a 16 year old to come out and finish 16th
- 33:26and, and again, I can copy and and paste this because it's
- 33:29motor Motor America that's I'm looking at, but that's pretty
- 33:33impressive. What are your thoughts, TJ, on
- 33:36how Ella Drea did and and the brother?
- 33:39But you know what? We're talking about the the
- 33:42female this March, this March, this women's month in March.
- 33:46Yeah, I mean, I think she's definitely a good writer and
- 33:50definitely young and upcoming and it's good to see more
- 33:52females, you know, competing with the guys.
- 33:56And yeah, for her to be 16 and and go to Daytona and do what
- 34:02she did, I think it's a a great milestone.
- 34:04And it's even better when you have a a family member.
- 34:07So to have our brother participate and they like, like
- 34:12Lewis said, the basically both of them top 20 is a cool
- 34:16experience. And yeah, just knowing that she
- 34:20was also in the race with Kayla and makes a probably more more
- 34:25confident and and I'm sure she had her head straight on, but
- 34:30that me, I guess it sounded really good.
- 34:32They had her going by a few times watching it on live and
- 34:36she was moving out there. So a couple of red flags and
- 34:40it's good that, you know, she wasn't involved with that
- 34:42either. So and then I think she had a
- 34:45good ride. Yeah, no, I, I, I completely
- 34:48agree. Not Reese, man.
- 34:49What are your thoughts? I mean, you know, it's, you
- 34:53know, I, I, this is one of the sports where it doesn't matter
- 34:57that I think the sex you are, you can, you can definitely
- 35:02finish on top. And, and it may have been, you
- 35:05know, different a few years ago, but we've seen these young
- 35:08ladies now that that are beating some, you know, some veterans.
- 35:14So I don't necessarily know if he, I don't want to say he don't
- 35:17need the WCRI think we may just need a, you know, the next 5-10
- 35:22years. It it it maybe like 20 Ellijaya
- 35:24and Kayla or maybe more? You never know.
- 35:29I mean, it's it's nice to see the women in our sport and take
- 35:33some advantage of you know what they got and and try to be
- 35:36aggressive. You never know.
- 35:38I mean, we might get some more coming in here.
- 35:40I mean, they're not like you said, the WCR, but you know, we
- 35:46do have like Mallory over there, Mallory Dobbs, she's over there.
- 35:50So you never know, you may have more women, you know, wanting to
- 35:53go over there and go over to the sport.
- 35:55You still, you still have Makayla that's over here.
- 35:58That was very dominant. That's, you know, sitting, you
- 36:03know, sitting out right now. But there I think that, you
- 36:07know, from what I see, the potential is high, you know what
- 36:11I mean? So I definitely say, you know,
- 36:15Sky's the limit for a lot of these new girls coming in and I
- 36:17think I think coming here in the next couple years, you may see
- 36:20more wanting to come play with the boys.
- 36:24OK, no doubt before we move on to World Super Bike and and Moto
- 36:28GP, one last thing guys, PJ look good and you know, it could have
- 36:35been a different story for PJ. You know, what are your thoughts
- 36:39on that? I mean, you know, he's in the
- 36:41Super bike series this year. So for him it's it's not a knock
- 36:45against him. It's almost I don't want to say
- 36:46a free ride, but it doesn't count towards a super bike
- 36:50point. So him not finishing other than
- 36:54pride and knowing that you had the potential to finish in front
- 37:00it, it got to suck, right guys? What are your thoughts, CJ?
- 37:04Yeah, I mean, it's got to suck. I'm sure, like fatigue had to
- 37:08set in at this point. And he's always up the front
- 37:14runner, so he's not used to Lapras that often.
- 37:18But to get caught up behind the Lapras and find a way around
- 37:21them and then just tuck the front in front of him.
- 37:23And it's kind of, you know, disappointing to see that he did
- 37:27that and being in first place, you know, so like, I think it
- 37:32was just a fatigue thing and just just trying to finish it
- 37:36out. So I thought he had it and he
- 37:38had a great ride the whole race. So, you know, I'm sure obviously
- 37:43it doesn't count, but I'm sure he's going to be very strong
- 37:46when the season starts all. Right, right.
- 37:50Reece, what are your thoughts, man?
- 37:51He kicking rocks today. What are your thoughts?
- 37:57Nah, I mean he, you know, he's ready for the next, you know,
- 38:02for the next level coming up here, coming here in April.
- 38:06I mean, he he looked very, very good man.
- 38:09He looked strong as that man. So I mean, I think right now you
- 38:12look at the bigger picture and, and, and, and move forward from
- 38:16there. I don't think he's kicking
- 38:18rocks. I mean, I think he's a little
- 38:20upset with himself. But I mean, you got to move on
- 38:23and get ready for the next the next big dance, which is coming.
- 38:27Right is is that just bad luck or lack of experience?
- 38:31Should they should I, I don't I don't remember this.
- 38:35If they did you know should have been Blue Flag to the back
- 38:39markers. What are your thoughts man?
- 38:42I mean, it could have been some blue flags.
- 38:44I mean, it could have been a, it could have been a bunch of
- 38:46stuff. I mean, I've seen it, but you
- 38:50got to look at it. You know, PJ was ahead of him
- 38:53when he crashed and, you know, maybe he just had, you know, a
- 38:57mental breakdown and, and tuck the, you know, grab too much,
- 39:02too much lean angle, too much anything.
- 39:03I, I got to go back and look at it again.
- 39:06But I mean, that could just be a mental breakdown right there.
- 39:09You know that as far as you know when fatigue sets in, you know
- 39:13you do start having mental breakdown when that fatigue
- 39:15hits. OK.
- 39:19All right. Lewis May what are your thoughts
- 39:22on the on the situation with PJ and is it, you know, it's just
- 39:28racing and this is no different than I mean, for a guy had that
- 39:33that, you know, hasn't won it and and it back-to-back to
- 39:36back-to-back. I mean, it's still got to hurt.
- 39:40I mean, I'm sure it hurts, but you know what?
- 39:42The race isn't over until you complete all the laps.
- 39:45And if you take a different line, 'cause you're trying to
- 39:47pass a back marker, even if they have the blue flags waving, you
- 39:51know the back marker tries not to impede you, but the black
- 39:53marker doesn't. The back marker doesn't have to
- 39:55stop. Put his kickstand down, make
- 39:57sure you go by, put gas in your bike, make sure your tires are
- 40:00OK, and then they can proceed. You're a faster rider.
- 40:03There's a reason you're lapping him.
- 40:04You should lap him, pass him and keep going and do it correctly.
- 40:10And you know he has nobody to blame but himself.
- 40:12He decided this is the corner where I'm going to pass him.
- 40:15He had plenty of room to work with, so it's not like he had,
- 40:18you know, an impending threat directly behind him.
- 40:21He just chose to go in. He went a little too hot, took a
- 40:24different line than everybody else, takes through that corner,
- 40:27probably used a little bit too much edge grip on a tire that
- 40:29already had a lot of laps on it. And he ended up, you know,
- 40:33sliding the bike out like this is you're going to be racing a
- 40:36super bike. Nobody's going to let you buy.
- 40:38You need to be able to get by and keep your concentration and
- 40:41make the next couple of corners and and do this.
- 40:44This is Racecraft. And it's not like he's new to
- 40:46racing. He's been doing this a long
- 40:47time, man. So for him to throw it away on
- 40:50the last lap, he has nobody to blame but himself.
- 40:53With that said, it doesn't count towards the point in Super Bike
- 40:57as far as I know. He didn't get hurt, so he should
- 40:59be ready to go come Rd. Atlanta and just kind of like,
- 41:03you know, put this in your very mirror.
- 41:05Keep going. You know, it's a one and done.
- 41:07It doesn't counter my point. It'd be cool to have a watch.
- 41:10It'd be cool to be on that list of names.
- 41:12It would have been cool to keep Josh Herron from winning his
- 41:14whatever in a row. All of that would have been
- 41:17cool, but would have, should have, could have didn't move on
- 41:20to the Super Bike season and see what you can do.
- 41:23But if he thinks that last year he had a rough time with Schultz
- 41:26in Super Sport, oh man, you're going to have a long, long
- 41:32season in Super bike because ain't nobody going to let you
- 41:36slide by. You better be ready for some
- 41:38elbows in your ribs and getting punted off the track on a
- 41:42regular if you think anybody's going to give you even an inch.
- 41:46It sounds like those are the things that Reach want to say,
- 41:49but since they're going to be competing next year.
- 41:53I I got, I got no, I got no skin in the game.
- 41:56I can say what I want. Man, you can say what you want.
- 41:58I, I, I can't man, just sort of think that I can and can't say.
- 42:03I I, I I I realize the difference in the tone.
- 42:07I got my Mace. I got my Mace when I talk.
- 42:13This is kind of like, oh man, let's give this guy some
- 42:15training wheels. Yippie skippy doopie.
- 42:21Nah, Nah, This is, this is racing as Robin is racing, as
- 42:24they say. That's what they say.
- 42:26Because some some people in the comments are are saying that's
- 42:30just straight from ATV show and not necessarily their life but.
- 42:34Nah, Robin is racing, man. It's in.
- 42:36Real life too, man, It's real. Life, trust me, you're going to
- 42:40turn one off of off the grid. You are bumping people.
- 42:44No, no doubt there. All right guys, I don't know
- 42:48which order to go with, but we'll go with let's go World
- 42:51super Bike because I think they just had tests in yesterday.
- 42:53Am I looking at that calendar right?
- 42:56They had tests in today yesterday, is that right and
- 43:00Porto Mayo all right, all right. It seems like both lows are
- 43:05back, but it sounds like both lows crashed.
- 43:08Normal. And and it what did.
- 43:11You do I say mid season form. They're they're in season form.
- 43:19You know, Alex Lowe's looked like he was the fastest.
- 43:22I mean, you know, we, we talk about testing and, and and so
- 43:25forth. This is, I mean, the rate one
- 43:26race has already happened. So I got assume at this point
- 43:29testing matters. It's not you're not just kicking
- 43:31the wheels, making sure the ergos are right and all those
- 43:34fun stuff. Now it's just kind of like how
- 43:36do we shave tents off, right? So this is more serious, it's
- 43:39fair to say. And and you know, we got two
- 43:41brothers that look pretty good. Bulgoga is is looking pretty
- 43:44good crashed out, you know, the Dixons of the world and the
- 43:49Samcat and some of these other guys and Petrucci.
- 43:52These guys are going to have to figure some things out.
- 43:53What are your thoughts, Tji? Don't know if you caught any of
- 43:55that. Not as much, but I mean, you
- 44:01know, the the young guys definitely going to have to step
- 44:03it up like the shantras because, you know, they they missed the
- 44:07first race. So I think it was mixed
- 44:12conditions out there as well. So and but yeah, it was good to
- 44:17see the lowest brothers, you know, still be relevant.
- 44:22I guess people say mid season form because it seems to do well
- 44:25and then somehow end up in the grass and yeah, just hopefully
- 44:31everyone figures out a little bit because they had a lot of
- 44:34time off as well. Yeah, just like.
- 44:37They don't, they don't race again until a couple of weeks.
- 44:40So I mean, you know. So it's also good to like stay
- 44:45in that that season form and to have all your data and what you
- 44:49need for the bikes. So I think the testing was going
- 44:52to be important, but as far as like timing, I don't think that
- 44:57was really important for this test.
- 45:00OK. What are your thoughts Reese on
- 45:02that? I mean, you know, you guys do a
- 45:03lot of testing here as well, may have less restrictions than than
- 45:08World Super Bike after the first round having the test.
- 45:12Is it? Is it, you know, the engineer
- 45:15saying yeah, we were right or the rider saying yeah, we were
- 45:18right? What are you guys trying to
- 45:20figure out? I mean, you go back to the
- 45:23drawing board from day one, I mean, from, you know, race one,
- 45:26and we take the data that you have from race 1 and you kind of
- 45:29see where you need to, you know, readjust yourself or readjust
- 45:33the bike or, you know, figure some stuff out.
- 45:35I mean, normally it's going to be kind of a mixture of both.
- 45:39It's going to be the rider trying to either change up some
- 45:43riding styles or trying to change up certain things.
- 45:46And then there's also going to be the engineers and your crew
- 45:49chief trying to come up with something to actually give you a
- 45:53better feel in the front end or a better feel in the rear or
- 45:56just overall better feel overall on the bike.
- 46:00You know, it depends on what which way you need to go.
- 46:03If you need to go more in the front, you need to go, you know,
- 46:05more in the rear. So it's just it's going to be
- 46:09our overall combination. And that's where it comes down
- 46:11to learning how to master your craft and talk, to be able to
- 46:18talk to your your crew chief, because you can't talk to him
- 46:21right or can't explain certain things when you won't.
- 46:24It's just we're just chasing your tail.
- 46:27Right, right now, if you know from from an engineering
- 46:32standpoint if one rider is faster in certain corners or
- 46:35sectors or overall, do you try to tell the the other riders to
- 46:40do what he's doing? You know, I'm simplifying it
- 46:43obviously. Or is it more still like you got
- 46:46everybody's in their own corners and they're kind of working out
- 46:49the bits and then coming together after?
- 46:52Well, everybody's kind of stealing.
- 46:53They're not. We're kind of trying to work
- 46:55together because here's the thing, I mean, one rider could
- 46:58be a little raked out in the front where the other rider can
- 47:02be pulled back a little bit. So the front end could be pulled
- 47:06back a little bit, could be +2 in the front on one rider and
- 47:08minus, you know -1 or plus one on the other, right in the front
- 47:12being raked out. So you may try to figure out
- 47:15certain things and try to be like, OK, well, he's faster in
- 47:17this corner. Why?
- 47:19So his bike is set up just a tad bit different than yours.
- 47:22Let's try doing this versus this.
- 47:29Let's try to set your bike up maybe a little bit like this one
- 47:33and see if that will help out a little bit.
- 47:35Maybe we'll, you know, rake it out a little bit in the front or
- 47:37we'll stretch it out more in the rear, depending on what the
- 47:39situation is. You know, maybe you're not
- 47:41getting enough edge grip, maybe you're not getting enough grip
- 47:43in the rear, maybe not getting enough grip coming out of the
- 47:45corner, or maybe you're pushing the front end too much.
- 47:48So it's going to be a whole bunch of different scenarios on
- 47:50what that's going to play out in OK.
- 47:54OK, I did say Dixon was going to be out there, but I think if
- 47:58Ray's covering for Dixon right now, Lewis man, what are your
- 48:03thoughts on on on the testing? Is is Luca doing the best he can
- 48:08do? Should he be trying to be a
- 48:11little bit closer to the Bulgar to keep a job, make a
- 48:15difference? What what can Oliveira do to to
- 48:21other than, you know, just keep riding the BMW street bike?
- 48:26I mean, looking at the top 9, just the fact that the top nine
- 48:30are within a second, it it, it's, it's nice to see that
- 48:33there's a lot of competitive bikes within that second.
- 48:36Obviously there's a several BMWs, several Ducatis and two
- 48:40BIA Motas and the one Honda. So to see them all within that
- 48:43one second is good to see. It still shows that there's
- 48:48certain people that need to step up a little bit more because
- 48:513/10 of a second seems like 3/10 of a second.
- 48:53But three cents of a second over a 26 lap race, you got
- 48:56stretched. So you know, who can, it's not
- 49:00just who can do the fastest 1 lap or who, who's can do the
- 49:02most consistent laps across the distance of a race within like
- 49:07a, you know, a 3/10 of a second to 1/2 a second split lap after
- 49:11lap after lap. Because nobody can really move
- 49:14the needle beyond that. You know, you're, you're within
- 49:16that 3/10 of a second every single lap.
- 49:19You might pull a super fast lap out of your ass because you're
- 49:22behind somebody and you get a draft and you get a half a
- 49:24second of a slingshot or something like that.
- 49:27But most riders race within that two to 3/10 of a second to half
- 49:32a second lap after lap after lap consistency.
- 49:36So most of these guys in the top nine would actually be very
- 49:39close to competitive in a full race.
- 49:42Miguel Oliveira is right where I think he should be because I
- 49:45believe, like I've told you several times, he is the best
- 49:48rider on a BMWI. Think BMW putting Domino
- 49:52Petrucci on that bike was a waste of a seat.
- 49:55I'll say that until I'm blue in the face or until he wins the
- 49:57championship, I'm probably going to be right on that one.
- 50:01Before he wins the championship, Ikalagoona, he needs to kind of
- 50:06keep stepping forward. I mean, he was only 2/10 or so
- 50:09slower than Nicola Bulaga, but you know, it's a test.
- 50:13I don't think Nicola Bulaga was trying to set the fastest lap of
- 50:16the weekend or a personal best. I think he was out there testing
- 50:19different things because again, the V4 is technically a new bike
- 50:23this year because of the swing arm and some of the new pieces.
- 50:27So he's probably trying to squeeze every 10th he can out of
- 50:29the bike and crashing is not high on his list.
- 50:32It's consistency, trying to fix the bike, trying to see what
- 50:35they can do to get it that extra step, that extra step, that
- 50:38extra step. Overall, I think this is this
- 50:41shows good possibilities for this year to be competitive for
- 50:45everybody except Yamaha. Cause Yamaha's outside the top
- 50:49ten and I don't see them breaking the top ten 'cause
- 50:52they're, you know, they're in the 140 twos and the guys at the
- 50:56pointy end of the Spears are 14141 and I don't see them
- 51:00finding a second between now and the next race.
- 51:04You know, I I didn't touch Yamaha and Motor America because
- 51:09they struggled there as well, so I didn't want to bring them up
- 51:12in World Super Bike either, but. Well, they're going to struggle
- 51:16all year this year, Motor America, especially on that R9
- 51:19because they took away their concessions and without the
- 51:22concessions they had last year, they're at a serious deficit in
- 51:27traction and that's leading to a serious deficit in speed,
- 51:31straight line speed, corner exit, everything else.
- 51:34So with Motor America taking away the swing arm that they
- 51:37were using last year, forcing them to use the swing arm that
- 51:41comes on the R9, which is not as long as the swing arm they were
- 51:44using last year. So they can't get that extra
- 51:46grip, mechanical grip. And with Ducati V twos, you
- 51:51know, a, a fleet of Ducati V twos in front of them, they're
- 51:55going to have a long, long season, man of looking at the
- 51:58Baika Ducatis. Yeah, You know, let's jump to
- 52:02Moto GP. Speaking of long seasons, let's
- 52:05start with, you know, Marquez deciding to not make a decision
- 52:10to sign a contract with Ducati yet.
- 52:13What's going on there, guys? Is this is this something on
- 52:17Marquez? Is this is this is him to get
- 52:20more money? What are your thoughts, TJ?
- 52:23What is that? Yeah, I mean, I think he's just.
- 52:30You're opening your briefcase. I mean, it took a little while
- 52:33there. What's going?
- 52:34On I think, I think my mic was muted, but yeah, I think, you
- 52:39know, he's just weighing his options.
- 52:40He's not just going to jump into the the first deal he sees he's
- 52:44smart enough and he's coming from Honda, who he's had a lot
- 52:47of money and he's already proved that he's a winner.
- 52:50He jumped to a satellite and to now a factory and won a
- 52:54championship after what he's been through.
- 52:56So going into a new season, it's going to be kind of strange for
- 53:01everybody. But he's not just going to jump
- 53:03into let me. Ask you this man.
- 53:06This man has been signing many contracts for a long time now.
- 53:11Here's a, here's a, here's a team that's brought you from the
- 53:14brink of whatever you were going through and, and put you back on
- 53:19the precipice. And, you know, they offer you
- 53:22something. I can't imagine Ducatis coming
- 53:25here with, with only, you know, 6 shrimps, 2 lobster tail and a
- 53:29couple of crab legs. They got to be sent sending the
- 53:31whole buffet, man. Like, I mean, this is bad.
- 53:35This is bad for this guy to be like, Nah, I ain't going to sign
- 53:37right now. I mean, he's probably thinking
- 53:40like, alright, if I sign, what's the project looking like from
- 53:432027 to 20, 29? Like what are we just what are
- 53:47we going to do? What's the plan?
- 53:49So you know, he's, he's deep diving right now and it's part
- 53:54of the Russian mentality as well.
- 53:55It's like I he can really take his talent somewhere else and
- 53:59still be good. He's just that guy right now.
- 54:02So, you know, I mean, it's just he's just waiting.
- 54:08He's just waiting a little bit for more money today.
- 54:10Reese man, you hearing this talk?
- 54:12Man, if, if, if you'd be caught. Are you worried?
- 54:15I mean, come on man, You, you gave this guy a lifeline.
- 54:20I mean, you could be worried a little bit.
- 54:22I mean, you could also, you know, you got to remember
- 54:24Marquez is at that age now. You know, he has really nothing
- 54:28to prove. He has nothing left to show or
- 54:30prove. I mean, you know, he's just
- 54:32coming off of another injury, another surgery.
- 54:35You know, he could, you know, it could be a time point in time,
- 54:38like especially with his, you know, he promises, you know, his
- 54:41grandfather, hey, I'm going to do this.
- 54:44But you know, now that he's at that age, you know, he's got a
- 54:48serious girlfriend now. He could just be at the age
- 54:50like, man, I'm going to see how I feel at the end of this year
- 54:53health wise and be like, you know, maybe I can just, I can be
- 54:57done and I can retire now. You know, you never know, he,
- 55:00he, he could be at that point. He could just be literally at
- 55:03that point, like I'm. It's nothing less for me to do.
- 55:07All right, I, I can, I can understand The Walking away
- 55:09thing. All right, so I because I was
- 55:11going to say he has to kiss the ring, but if he's thinking about
- 55:14walking away, that could be the only respectable thing to say.
- 55:17Why want to wait? It can't be for I'm not getting
- 55:22enough from Ducati, can it? No, I mean they, they, I mean,
- 55:27they're throwing the Brinks truck at that guy, so, you know,
- 55:30So no, I mean, he's getting plenty enough from him.
- 55:33I mean, I know Ducati and I've, I've known every year that, you
- 55:38know, they, they throw money at those guys, you know, Lambos and
- 55:43all types of cars, all types of jewelry, everything.
- 55:46So he, he's got plenty of financial status with them.
- 55:49So now it's it's, I think it's could be a point of, is it time
- 55:53for me to walk away while I still have my health?
- 55:57Lewis, I know it here is it must make your ears crunch to hear
- 56:02say just throw money at stuff, throw money at stuff, throw
- 56:05money at stuff. Because when I assume if you had
- 56:08to sign Marquez, you will have a number and you're going to sit
- 56:12here and say no matter what, I'm not crossing that line.
- 56:16And you know what happens when he says no, you go back and be
- 56:19like, all right, how far can I cross that line?
- 56:23Because here's the deal. When he left Honda, he was
- 56:26making 25,000,000 a year. He went to Grazini making less
- 56:31than I think 6,000,000 a year. He went to Ducati, I believe
- 56:37making 12 million a year. So there's, there's a couple of
- 56:41factors here. One his age, he's 33 years old.
- 56:44How many more years does he physically have that he can
- 56:47continue to race and take the punishment of racing?
- 56:50If he thinks he can take two more years then he's going to
- 56:53want to a Max contract for two years because that gives him the
- 56:57opportunity to to meet the championship record of the most
- 57:02titles, gives him the opportunity with the best bike.
- 57:05So money is a factor, his health is a factor, and if he wants to
- 57:10retire a Ducati rider then it needs to be a contract that
- 57:13meets the requirement for the amount of years he thinks he's
- 57:16going to do this. If Marquez was going to retire,
- 57:18I seriously doubt he's going to announce his retirement in July.
- 57:22Like he'll announce it at the beginning of the season just
- 57:25like Rossi did. So they can have a full year of
- 57:27just kissing his ass everywhere he goes.
- 57:29And whether you hate him or love him, Moto GP will do a whole big
- 57:34farewell thing for him the entire season.
- 57:37And then it'll end in her rez with a championship lap of his
- 57:39own where everybody shakes his hand.
- 57:41And that's, that's the way to go out, man.
- 57:44You don't say in August, I'm retiring in September.
- 57:47You make sure you squeeze every dime every because guess what?
- 57:49That last year you're going to sell this shit out of your
- 57:52merch. You're going to have special
- 57:53shirts. Last shirt at Koda, last shirt
- 57:56here. This is Money, man.
- 57:59Don't leave money on the table. And in the great words of the
- 58:03immortal Luttrell's Freewell, how is he supposed to feed his
- 58:06family with only $17 million? That's right.
- 58:15It's tough. And it's, it's just weird to see
- 58:18because we've, we don't know, right?
- 58:20And I and I and I, and that's not a phrase I like to use in
- 58:24life in general, much less on camera, because we don't know.
- 58:28I don't necessarily need to know what the man is doing, but I,
- 58:32it's it. I have a nagging suspicion that
- 58:36Ducati could get caught with their their pants down.
- 58:42I, I don't think he's there's anywhere else for him to go.
- 58:45I don't think Aprilia is going to back up the as big a Brinks
- 58:48truck. I don't think they have a as big
- 58:49a Brinks truck as Audi. You know, they, they don't, they
- 58:53don't have as big a Brinks truck as Audi.
- 58:55Nobody's floating them that way. KTM, you know, is does it.
- 58:59They don't have a Brinks truck. Their Brinks truck is managed by
- 59:01somebody else now. So they got to ask three other
- 59:04people before they can take, you know, a loan out to get a loan.
- 59:08Honda is probably not going to offer him what he wants, and
- 59:11he's probably not going to want to go back to Honda unless it's
- 59:15crazy money because at this point he's, you know, is he
- 59:17really racing for money? He's racing for stats at this
- 59:20point. Money is nice.
- 59:22He's just padding his stats. He's doing what LeBron James
- 59:25does, except he's actually good at it.
- 59:28And he doesn't need to stay around 40 years playing to pad
- 59:30his stats to try to make himself look great.
- 59:33He's going to do it. He's going to do it in, you
- 59:34know, 12 years. I mean, I'm a I'm a Jordan fan,
- 59:37but stop it, I'm at. 47 years old, he's like, yo, I'm the
- 59:41number one scoring guy. You should be.
- 59:43You've been playing for 40 years.
- 59:45Listen man, some people don't just doesn't like, don't like to
- 59:48be home every day. I mean, I've seen his kids, I
- 59:51wouldn't want to be home either. They look like pains in the
- 59:53asses. But then he's bringing his kid
- 59:57to work. So what?
- 1:00:00The hell, man. Listen, man, you guys show you
- 1:00:01show show away to the to the top.
- 1:00:06We got we got racing in a couple of weeks.
- 1:00:09I hope you're right. I will say this about Audi, the
- 1:00:12apparent companies Volkswagen. Volkswagen got a class action
- 1:00:16suit. They had a.
- 1:00:18Clash action, shoot, they settled it fair.
- 1:00:20Enough. Fair.
- 1:00:21Enough. They had a clash action shoot a
- 1:00:22couple years ago because they set up their cars to pass
- 1:00:24inspection by running differently when they were
- 1:00:27getting inspected. So it made it look like they had
- 1:00:29less emissions and when somebody found the software that was
- 1:00:32buried in their ECU, they got a multi billion dollar fine for
- 1:00:36polluting and they settled it. Yeah, I was still selling cars.
- 1:00:39That was 10 years ago now, but yeah, still selling.
- 1:00:42Cars. But suddenly they didn't find
- 1:00:44another way to to bury that software somewhere else.
- 1:00:48KTM needs to buy us. Hire some Volkswagen people.
- 1:00:52That they do, man. Bad business, they make money.
- 1:00:59It's too soon to to call out points and scores and all that
- 1:01:04fun stuff because we got another week before any racing is
- 1:01:08happening. Brazil's not until the 20th of
- 1:01:11March and for Moto GP and World Super Bike is not until the week
- 1:01:15after that. We just had Moto America, which
- 1:01:18is very exciting. We do have a lot of club racing
- 1:01:21that is starting to start up for folks.
- 1:01:23So, you know, renew your license and I was thinking about this
- 1:01:27earlier as I'm, I'm starting to pack up because I'm going to go
- 1:01:30race in a couple of weeks myself.
- 1:01:32You transponder figure out your transponder battery renewal.
- 1:01:38You don't want to show up the morning of and you go to tech
- 1:01:43and you can't schedule a transponder.
- 1:01:47That's one thing I need to renew is my transponder.
- 1:01:50So yeah, that that's on that's on the list.
- 1:01:53I got to do that. But I should be good.
- 1:01:56Yeah, that that's that's what. Don't want to be out there
- 1:01:59without that transponder. Do that I, I, I.
- 1:02:02Don't want the rent one either. I'm going in a couple of weeks.
- 1:02:05I'm already loading the trailer, Bikes are already in the
- 1:02:07trailer. I might I might even do a dry
- 1:02:09run to the track and back just to make sure that's a bit much,
- 1:02:14but. That's that's.
- 1:02:18Extra man in some cases, but you don't want to be stuck on the
- 1:02:21side of the road. You don't want to show up and
- 1:02:24not have the thing like tire warmers.
- 1:02:25I'm sitting here like I probably got to turn my tire warmers on
- 1:02:28to make sure they work. There's a.
- 1:02:31There's a AHRMA I think this weekend here down the road from
- 1:02:36me. I might actually show up.
- 1:02:39Yes. At at CMP.
- 1:02:42Yep, there is. Maybe I'll show up.
- 1:02:46There you go, you scratch the VIN numbers off.
- 1:02:49You can maybe get into the the historic class or the vintage
- 1:02:52class with that R6. How would that be to be vintage?
- 1:02:57Well, it's weird. I think it's like, oh, I don't
- 1:03:00know if it's years or I know O6 or O7 because one of our buddies
- 1:03:05Jim, he his bike is AI think it's AO 6 and and he races the
- 1:03:09vintage class. So I I don't know, you would
- 1:03:13think by now the 2012 R 6 would be vintage as well, but.
- 1:03:19I don't know, I mean if not I could try to grab the Gixxer and
- 1:03:24get dusted cobwebs off of it. I'd have to get a license first.
- 1:03:27Man, I haven't had a license in years.
- 1:03:30Oh man, just just tell them who you are.
- 1:03:32You'll get a license if. I tell them who I am not getting
- 1:03:35a license. I might not get entry.
- 1:03:38You might not. You might go to.
- 1:03:41The. Sky you might not anything
- 1:03:45anything before we get out of here guys that I missed that
- 1:03:48that that we should talk about. Stay safe out there.
- 1:03:52The Las Vegas Police Department put out a report that most
- 1:03:56people in Vegas are crashing because they're not using the
- 1:03:59front brake, which is great to hear.
- 1:04:01Front brake is super important. If you don't know that, learn
- 1:04:06it. And if you don't want to learn
- 1:04:07it, look for another hobby, because without the front brake
- 1:04:10you're going to have a long, long time.
- 1:04:12Yeah, there's a lot of people don't know that they should be
- 1:04:16using a front brake on a motorcycle.
- 1:04:19They jump on that back brake quick, and you think they'll
- 1:04:21learn it for the first time when they slide like 50 feet.
- 1:04:23But what do I? Do.
- 1:04:26Yeah. I've learned not to use the back
- 1:04:28brake. I allowed it.
- 1:04:30That thing locked up on me. Yeah.
- 1:04:32Nope. Never again.
- 1:04:33Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm learning how to, I'm trying to
- 1:04:36learn how to use the back brake now just for turning.
- 1:04:39So that's kind of I I haven't done it in a race yet, but I'm
- 1:04:42trying. All right, Reese, man, anything
- 1:04:45I, you know, you know any Morris codes you want to send out
- 1:04:49before we let you go? Nah, man, that's it.
- 1:04:54Let's get ready for the season. Let's get ready for a showdown.
- 1:04:57No doubt. I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:04:59Hopefully we'll be in the building to check out the the
- 1:05:02the second round of the Moto America first round for you, but
- 1:05:05second round for Moto Mark in general.
- 1:05:08Who's coming up to Atlanta? You coming up at Rexy to Atlanta
- 1:05:11for Motor America? That's the plan at the moment.
- 1:05:14All right, I'll be there also all.
- 1:05:16Right. No doubt this time we'll take
- 1:05:18photos, so we'll prove that we were there together.
- 1:05:26It is what it is. I don't think we're social media
- 1:05:28hogs like that. So we just like like each
- 1:05:30other's company. So it's all good.
- 1:05:32My name is Rec 25 be forever cool podcast.
- 1:05:35I want to thank TJ with two wheels and coffee Reese from
- 1:05:38attack Yamaha, the real Luis Ortega, the numbers guy.
- 1:05:41Peace, peace, peace. Peace.
