Transcript
- 0:07Our number 2 welcome back. It's Miller and Condon on the
- 0:09Iowa Sports Radio Network flagship right here in Des
- 0:13Moines, One O 6.3 KX&O along with our affiliates across the
- 0:17state, Sioux City, IA City, Cedar Rapids and the Quad
- 0:20Cities. Glad to have you aboard with us
- 0:21here today as we talk the world of sports.
- 0:24Ken away for his final two days of his two week vacation, but
- 0:29joining me today as he did last Thursday, he is Todd
- 0:31Brommelkamp, as he says on his screen.
- 0:34Here's he's broadcasting from the Eastern Iowa studios over
- 0:37there at his house in Cedar Rapids.
- 0:39Still not Ken Miller, but he is Todd Bromlichamp and we're happy
- 0:42to have him. Todd, we are underway period #2
- 0:45in the Olympic hockey. I'm sucked in.
- 0:46No, not really. What?
- 0:51I don't have it on here. Can I get a score update?
- 0:53No score, No scores still all right.
- 0:56Now I I took a peek at the money line there during the commercial
- 1:00break. As you can imagine, plus 290 on
- 1:03the Canadians. I know the US has been a lot
- 1:05better. I've made Dumber bets.
- 1:08Don't do it. Don't do it.
- 1:10Don't do it. What do I, like USUS, will win
- 1:13that game eventually. Don't do it, OK?
- 1:15Don't do it all right? I know this is radio.
- 1:17People can't see him. His eyes are lit up like a kid
- 1:20in a candy store right now. I'm going to take your advice
- 1:22and I'm going to stay off the apple.
- 1:24Let's get into a couple of news items from the last 24 hours,
- 1:28starting with something that just broke right as we were
- 1:30exiting the area yesterday as Iowa is in the market for a new
- 1:35running back coach once again after the departure, a season to
- 1:38go, Liddell Betts moving on to the NFL.
- 1:41Now, Omar Young, after one year on the job, he's off the NFL
- 1:45also kinda. He's going to the Las Vegas
- 1:48Raiders and he's going to be working for Clint Kubiak out
- 1:51there. Omar Young.
- 1:52It was so interesting because there was the quote that came
- 1:56out from down to Tampa that we heard from Kumari Moulton.
- 2:00And I know at times and Todd, as you know, in this business,
- 2:04sometimes you you got to make a mountain out of a molehill.
- 2:07But the quote that he had coming out and saying doesn't have the
- 2:11same kind of connection. Just hearing from Bolton, it
- 2:14sounded off. This is not conspiracy trend
- 2:17here. This is not anything like that.
- 2:19However, you do wonder, talking to some people that I know over
- 2:22there, he coached differently certainly than Liddell Betts and
- 2:25that's no knock. It's just different guys,
- 2:27different personalities. But it does leave you wondering
- 2:30a little bit because it's not very often that we see a one and
- 2:33done scenario going to work for Kirk Ference.
- 2:36Yeah, and I don't know Omar Young at all, but whoever's
- 2:39giving him career advice, leaving for a job with the Las
- 2:43Vegas Raiders is is not exactly something that I would would
- 2:49have jumped at. But yeah, you know, you look at
- 2:52at Liddell Bats who played for Kirk Ference early on when it
- 2:57was really tough to be a Hawkeye football player and the the
- 3:01bond, the connection there. You know, he understands that I
- 3:06we talked too much in this business about the culture at
- 3:09places and, and the history and all of that stuff.
- 3:12But, you know, Liddell Betts embodied everything about being
- 3:17an Iowa Hawkeye. And, and Omar Young was a guy
- 3:19that, that didn't have a ton of connections to the program and,
- 3:23and seemed to be just, you know, filling a role.
- 3:26And so I, I don't know what to think here.
- 3:28I, you know, like you after one year, was it a bad fit?
- 3:32You know, you, you're going to have to work really hard to sell
- 3:36me on someone dreaming about or wanting to go work for the
- 3:40Raiders. So, you know, to me, the more
- 3:42interesting thing is the amount of staff turnover that Kirk has
- 3:45had the last couple years. You know, it.
- 3:48I just think, you know, the longer the Kirk is around and
- 3:51the, the retirement is looming, I just you, you don't have that
- 3:55continuity that he had for the first, you know, 1520 years when
- 4:00he was on the job. And, and the last thing you want
- 4:02to do is start having a revolving door at different
- 4:05positions. And you know, you know, go from
- 4:08hearing from one coach one year to to a guy for, you know, the
- 4:12some guys there will be on their third running back coach in
- 4:15three years. It's it's not a recipe for
- 4:17success long term. You know, a name that was
- 4:21brought up right away and there was a couple of ones that I
- 4:23found interesting that have Iowa connections and normally kind of
- 4:26where these conversations starts as they go out there.
- 4:28The first, though, maybe is the easiest.
- 4:30And that's just Jason Manson, who was up and interviewed for
- 4:33that running back job a year ago, former Hawkeye quarterback
- 4:36and wide receiver. He's been around the program now
- 4:38for what, the last 15 years? He was working in kind of the,
- 4:43oh, the role What what did they call that role where you work
- 4:46with the players and an informal basis?
- 4:48It's more being that mentor type.
- 4:51That was the role that he initially had with Iowa Player
- 4:53development, I think is what it's called.
- 4:56Then he moved up last year. He moved into an offensive role,
- 4:59though not as a full time coach in that kind of role.
- 5:02That'd be the easiest one with Jason Manson coupled with, of
- 5:05course, his son Julian getting ready to begin his career.
- 5:07So that would be probably the one that, at least on the
- 5:10surface, would make the most sense and the easiest one if
- 5:13you're looking to make a higher quickly, though we know Kirk
- 5:15Ferris does not make hires quickly.
- 5:17No, he does not he and, and nor should he.
- 5:20I think it's important to be thorough and, and turn over
- 5:23every rock. And, you know, he's got so many
- 5:25connections. I'm sure there's a coach or two
- 5:28out there that would be a great fit.
- 5:31You know, I, I do think there's something to be said about
- 5:34keeping guys or bringing guys in on board that, that no one
- 5:38understand the program. And, and Jason Manson going back
- 5:42to the days when he was at Iowa as a backup quarterback, you
- 5:46know, he's a great dude. And I think he would be a, a
- 5:49great, you know, addition as far as a promotion to the staff.
- 5:54But I, I think, you know, the number one thing you want to
- 5:57look for is fit. And, and maybe Omar Young just
- 6:01at the end of the day wasn't a fit.
- 6:03But like you said, you take somebody who says coaching is a
- 6:07little different or, or something.
- 6:09It doesn't take too much in this business to to take that nothing
- 6:12burger and and run with it. There was one other name that is
- 6:16out there and Todd, I get a kick out of it every single time.
- 6:19I mean, there's a coaching opening and right away if it's
- 6:21basketball, it's BJ Armstrong, right?
- 6:23I mean, that comes up every single time.
- 6:24It doesn't matter what the sport is, though, right away you go to
- 6:28former players and I chuckle and I roll my eyes and let that guy
- 6:30is not going to get the job. I I saw Akron Wadley.
- 6:33We know he's not going to get the job in the Iowa football
- 6:36department. But there is a former running
- 6:37back that I said looking through his resume a little bit.
- 6:42Speaking of good dudes, Albert Young, I think that would make a
- 6:45ton of sense. And I had a couple of my friends
- 6:47that were friends with Albert back at Iowa, had nothing but
- 6:50great things to say about him as a person.
- 6:52He was with the Washington Commander Commanders a couple of
- 6:55years ago with the coaching fellowship program that they
- 6:58had. They're working with their
- 6:59running back. So he's got a connection back to
- 7:01the league. I don't know if he has any want
- 7:04to get back and and to get into collegiate coaching, but that
- 7:07was when the former names come up.
- 7:09It's good for a chuckle and that's usually it.
- 7:11But Albert Young, at the least on the surface, didn't make a
- 7:13little bit of sense. I, I thought for sure you were
- 7:16going to say Marcus Schnorr there.
- 7:17I would have lost that bet. Shout out to my buddy Marcus,
- 7:20fellow Central Sabre Owen DeWitt.
- 7:23He's been coaching. I believe in Solan.
- 7:25His son's a heck of a football player.
- 7:27But Albert would be a good addition.
- 7:30I, I think it's fans lose sight of the fact that there's a huge
- 7:36commitment to being a college coach.
- 7:38Like it's not just as easy as being there on Sundays and at
- 7:43practice. You've got to be on the road
- 7:45recruiting and you know, it's about finding the right guy and,
- 7:50and the family life balance and all of that stuff.
- 7:53Coaching is not cut out for everybody and everybody's not
- 7:57cut out for coaching. So, you know, we went through
- 8:01that with, you know, Marv Cook, his name always comes up when
- 8:05you know, for for how many years, you know, it was talk of
- 8:08Marv Cook joining the state. His heart was never he never
- 8:12wanted to be a college coach. You know, he he did what he did
- 8:15at Regina and got to coach his kids.
- 8:17And there's a huge commitment to being a college coach, even even
- 8:23as an assistant. So, but I think Albert would he
- 8:26would check a lot of boxes, you know, and and certainly tickle
- 8:30that nostalgia funny bone as well.
- 8:32Which we got with Liddell Betts and that obviously worked out
- 8:35incredibly well. That running backroom, the
- 8:37really tight over there and they got guys coming back.
- 8:40I mean, you talk about the depth that they have at that position.
- 8:43This is going to be one that I'm sure a lot of people are going
- 8:45to look around and say you're looking for a good job and maybe
- 8:47even somebody that wants to use it as a springboard.
- 8:50That's a pretty good spot to go with the running backroom.
- 8:53We're going to the transfer portal, getting Phillips out of
- 8:55there from South Dakota after nearly 2000 yards.
- 8:58McNeil back, we saw glimpses certainly at him this season.
- 9:02Xavier Williams, same guy, saw glimpses out of him.
- 9:04And then at the front of it with Kamari Bolton.
- 9:06And if he can maybe add that extra gear, the running back
- 9:10spot looks to be pretty good for next season.
- 9:12And yes, they're going to need a coach, but maybe a different
- 9:14kind of coach than what would they had here from Omar Young.
- 9:17Well, we get a little football talk, which is always great to
- 9:19talk about. Todd.
- 9:20Let's get in to again some of the other talk that is out
- 9:24there. It is state wrestling week and
- 9:26for you guys over on the east side of the state now, you've
- 9:29had some things recently. Volleyballs moved over to
- 9:31Coralville. We've seen that the girls state
- 9:33wrestling tournament, very successful.
- 9:35Baseball was there a couple of years ago and that's going to be
- 9:37coming back. Volleyball used to be in Cedar
- 9:40Rapids. So you know about state
- 9:41tournaments, but state wrestling is a different animal.
- 9:45I grew up in a wrestling's town. I grew up in Osage.
- 9:47Wrestling is a number one there. That's what it was all about.
- 9:50And I had to be a wrestler, even though I was awful at it because
- 9:53everybody has to be a wrestler when he grew up in a town like
- 9:55that. State wrestling, though, for you
- 9:57as somebody that has never lived in central Iowa, were you one of
- 10:00those towns that you got state wrestling off?
- 10:02That was our spring break. Every year we got Thursday and
- 10:05Friday off of school for state wrestling.
- 10:07No, I, I don't recall that, but you know, it's always, you get
- 10:10the, the full truck in the local newspaper, the pictures of the
- 10:15wrestlers that are going off the state.
- 10:16And I I think, you know, it's a it's got to be a bucket list
- 10:20item for sports fans in the state, even if you're not a huge
- 10:24wrestling fan, to go to the state wrestling tournament now
- 10:27it's different now that it's not at the barn, you know, at vets,
- 10:30that was a completely different experience.
- 10:33But it's still, you know, at the heart and soul of this state.
- 10:37You know, this is a state that takes its wrestling really
- 10:41seriously. And yeah, it's just one of those
- 10:44things you kind of got to do just to experience it.
- 10:47But no, I, I don't, I don't recall getting out of school for
- 10:52state wrestling, but. We had things like we said.
- 10:56Geography may have played into played a role in that more than
- 10:59anything. We would have these two days off
- 11:02of school. Sometimes we had one of them was
- 11:04a snow day though, so if we had to make up a snow day, it'd be
- 11:07on that Thursday. But every single year it was
- 11:08that Friday was off, viewers off, and it'd be a caravan from
- 11:12Osage all the way down to Deboyne.
- 11:13We make the trip down here, get hotels, do stupid things, get in
- 11:17trouble. My parents never went, so I was
- 11:18always going with a friend and that meant even usually more
- 11:21trouble as I was a troublemaker sometimes.
- 11:23Believe it or not, back to here. No, I don't.
- 11:26Hard to believe, hard to believe stories at hand.
- 11:29Yesterday I'm calling with my buddy Blake Walker and Andy
- 11:33Pollock, who helped me out with state wrestling.
- 11:35We're calling the action. We got 8 mats going on.
- 11:37We're trying to name all the central Iowa wrestlers, even if
- 11:40they're out there very quickly. And all three of our eyes dart
- 11:44over to Matt 7 and Drayshawn Ross.
- 11:48Now, if you don't know Drayshawn Ross, he's going to Oklahoma
- 11:51State. He is considered one of the best
- 11:52wrestlers in the country. He could have been AD 1 football
- 11:55player to a number of different programs, just an incredibly
- 11:58high level athlete. And he bumped up to heavyweight
- 12:01and he probably weighs 220-5230, maybe a little bit more than
- 12:04that, but he's not as big as some of the guys wrestling up at
- 12:06285. So he was wrestling kid
- 12:08yesterday from Bettendorf, I believe it was, and he got a
- 12:11technical fall in 55 seconds, 8 takedowns in 55 seconds.
- 12:17At one point he chucked him into the chairs where the coaches
- 12:20were sitting over the side. I mean, he's just a different
- 12:21animal. And the kid that he's wrestled
- 12:23afterwards, after 55 seconds, he comes over, he's just got a
- 12:25smirk on his face. Like what the hell am I supposed
- 12:27to do? This guy is at a completely
- 12:30different level. He's going to be a four timer.
- 12:32We got another one. Speaking of Osage, Blake Fox
- 12:35from Osage, he's going to this week to become a four time state
- 12:38champion as well. You talk about that environment
- 12:41and there is nothing for me in this state more special than
- 12:44that Saturday. I mean, at the high school
- 12:45level, it's not even close. But just in general, you said it
- 12:49earlier, you don't have to be a wrestling fan.
- 12:50It is something that is a part, I think, of being an Iowa and to
- 12:53be in that environment, to see it, to hear the cheers raining
- 12:56down, all the guys are on the ward stands.
- 12:59Then throughout the evening, the Grand March, all the place
- 13:01winners coming in. They do it incredibly well.
- 13:04It is well run. It'll be back on PBS this year,
- 13:06which is, I know, huge for a lot of people in the community.
- 13:09But if you haven't had the opportunity to experience, you
- 13:11don't have to be a big wrestling person.
- 13:13You don't have to be wrestling fan at all, it's just the
- 13:15experience that goes along with it.
- 13:17And this weekend on Saturday with potentially 2 four time
- 13:20state champions each being crowned, it's going to be really
- 13:23special there at now the Casey Center.
- 13:25I had to write that down a couple of times in my notes this
- 13:28week. How is how is this kid not going
- 13:30to Iowa? That's my question.
- 13:33Money, and not that Iowa wrestling is not doing well with
- 13:38money in the wrestling program. They're fine there.
- 13:40But Oklahoma State was a part of it.
- 13:42And I do wonder too. I mean, just a chance to get out
- 13:44that Iowa wrestling program right now.
- 13:46You hear the rumblings over there.
- 13:47Things are not all sunshine and rainbows in Iowa City with the
- 13:50wrestling program. Yeah, they stink.
- 13:52I mean I for their. Standard.
- 13:54Yes, this. Is going to be a real
- 13:56interesting conversation that Beth Goetz is going to have here
- 14:01in a couple months. Absolutely.
- 14:04David Taylor, who I know a lot of Hawkeye fans would have loved
- 14:07to see come in and take over the Iowa program.
- 14:09He went to Oklahoma State a couple years ago.
- 14:11That fresh voice, new voice, new way of training, all the
- 14:14successes that he had both on the national scene and the
- 14:16international scene as a three time world champion.
- 14:19David Taylor at Oklahoma State, I think that had a lot to do
- 14:22also with Ross's decision that he was going to make his way to
- 14:26down to Stillwater and do his wrestling down there.
- 14:29It's gonna be fun. But Todd, I know Eastern Iowa
- 14:31guy, don't do it. Very.
- 14:33At some point you have to make your way over here.
- 14:35And it doesn't even have to be for the finals, just it's an
- 14:37experience. It's so different, so weird.
- 14:40And maybe someday your son will be the one out there on the mat.
- 14:43He has not gotten into wrestling yet.
- 14:46We we tried to to keep him away from that because we were
- 14:49worried about DDTS. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 14:52You know, the razor's edge and all of that.
- 14:54I don't think he quite understands the difference
- 14:57between the wrestling we watch on TV and actually getting
- 15:00getting him to wrestle. But his his PE teacher's been
- 15:04trying to recruit him. OK, his PE teacher's got some
- 15:07sons that wrestled and thinks it would be a good way to get some
- 15:10of his aggression out. But so far we've kept him off
- 15:15the mats. Not a bad thing.
- 15:16Not a bad thing either. Got to have the right
- 15:17temperament for it. My son has started, I don't know
- 15:20if he's going to have the temperament to do very much, but
- 15:22he's had a little success and has had a good time and he's got
- 15:25his bracket from his first tournament hanging up in his
- 15:27walls, though he likes it at this point.
- 15:29Didn't like it too much though. When he got, he said choked, he
- 15:32had his arm around his neck a little bit and pinned him.
- 15:34Yeah, that changes the equation. Certainly.
- 15:36Today we got more wrestling coming your way right here.
- 15:38In fact, on KX and O, the next three nights will bring you
- 15:42starting this evening. 7:00 We'll take the airwaves then as
- 15:45it will be the quarterfinal round for Class 3A that comes up
- 15:49this evening. 7:00 Right here on One O, 6.3, KX and O.
- 15:52Then tomorrow night, Friday night, it is the semifinals.
- 15:55That is my favorite round for the guys to get to that
- 15:58championship match, to get to Saturday night.
- 16:00Boy, that is as in intense of environment as you're going to
- 16:03get. There's so many times you kind
- 16:05of know the kids that are going to win at each weight class or
- 16:07have a pretty good idea just getting to that Saturday night
- 16:10though, I think you see some of the best wrestling and we'll
- 16:13have that for you on Friday. Then the full championships on
- 16:16Saturday 530 is when things will begin with the Grand March and
- 16:20wrestling will begin at about 5:45.
- 16:22All right here on one O 6.3 KXNO Todd, you gave me bad advice.
- 16:29What? Nothing Canadians.
- 16:31It's not over yet. OK.
- 16:32All right, all right. I mean, I could have got that
- 16:34good price though. I could have been, I could have
- 16:35already locked in a profit is what I'm saying.
- 16:37That plus 290. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:39You could have flipped around and armed it or something, or
- 16:42cashed out. Yeah, I look, there's no such
- 16:47thing as an easy win, right? That's why they call it
- 16:49gambling. That's right, We're going to get
- 16:52some gambling picks a little bit later here in the program.
- 16:54Coming up next, we got Matt Postings.
- 16:56We're going to talk a lot of Big 12.
- 16:58JT topping out for the year completely changes the chances
- 17:01of Texas Tech of making a run. Darren Peterson, Bill Self,
- 17:05Todd, have you seen a guy well, this side of maybe Mick Cronin
- 17:09and how miserable he is? Bill Self has dealt with health
- 17:12issues and now he's dealing with this Darren Peterson thing.
- 17:15And for a guy that I've always respected, and Bill Self, a guy
- 17:19that, yes, has he bent some corners, no doubt.
- 17:23But still a guy that I respect what he has done in this game
- 17:27and he just seems fed up with it.
- 17:28He doesn't have an answer. He doesn't know what's going to
- 17:31happen. I didn't think I'd ever feel bad
- 17:33for Bill Self, but kind of I'm feeling bad for him right now.
- 17:37You know, it's really weird in this area.
- 17:39The guys that were rumored to have bent some corners back
- 17:42before it was, you know, when it was the wild, Wild West.
- 17:45Now that everybody's able to go out and get the players that
- 17:48they want, suddenly some of those guys are struggling.
- 17:50It's really weird. And I just, you know, I'm going
- 17:53to mention that, but a. Little bit odd, yeah?
- 17:56How could that possibly be? Why isn't Kansas nearly as good
- 17:59as they were just a couple years ago?
- 18:00Same thing in the SEC for football.
- 18:04Doesn't, I think, take a whole lot of jumping to conclusions to
- 18:07understand what that's going to look like quickly before we
- 18:10bring in Matt Postings. Yesterday in college hoops, we
- 18:14talked to Force about the Iowa State women get the win in the
- 18:16return of Addie Brown. Over on the men's side last
- 18:19night, Drake, seventh loss in a row for the Bulldogs and year #1
- 18:23not going very well for Coach Henderson and the dogs.
- 18:26On the other side though, the you and I Panthers, the return
- 18:28of Tristan Smith, he's not a big scorer, but it's just an extra
- 18:31body out there. This team looks completely
- 18:34different on fire in the second-half.
- 18:36Wise. Rod and Schweiger both knocking
- 18:38down 3 pointers. They go on the road in Throttle.
- 18:40Indiana State and the Panthers, Ben Jacobson, I think he's got a
- 18:44team that has a shot down there in Saint Louis.
- 18:46Yeah, don't, don't sleep on you and I and Ben Jacobson in March.
- 18:50Absolutely. I, you know, they're, like I
- 18:52said, this is my favorite time of year because you start to see
- 18:55some teams that get a little momentum and coming on.
- 18:57And that's one time I never have had a chance to cover Arch
- 19:02madness. It's one of those tournaments
- 19:03that I would like to go and experience just because, you
- 19:06know, it's not a, it's not a major conference at all, but
- 19:09it's a hell of a basketball conference.
- 19:11And, and kudos to the Valley for, for finding a home and
- 19:15keeping it there and, and Saint Louis for embracing it.
- 19:18And I just think it's one of the best conference tournaments
- 19:21every March. Been there a couple of different
- 19:23times. Been there for you and I when
- 19:25they were riding high and and won a couple of conference
- 19:28tournaments since I've been down there, went down for a day one
- 19:30of their championship games. Been there when Drake's been
- 19:32good too. It's good to see that local
- 19:34contingent down there. What they're missing though, not
- 19:37just the Creightons that would bring 5000 themselves to Saint
- 19:40Louis and fill up that building every single time.
- 19:42Wichita definitely built themselves into that.
- 19:44But Southern Illinois, Southern Illinois is actually Carbondale
- 19:47is pretty close to Saint Louis. And when they were good, they
- 19:50used to be there. Well, they're not good anymore
- 19:52and they haven't been there for a really long time.
- 19:54To get back to those levels, you need a program like an Illinois
- 19:59State, a southern Illinois, one of these bigger programs from
- 20:02from the bigger state schools to really come back on, get those
- 20:05numbers back up. Because there's other times I've
- 20:07been there for one of those 830 tip offs in the quarter final
- 20:10round. And it is friends and family
- 20:12only. And the next time that I run
- 20:14into an Evansville fan will be the first.
- 20:15They're nowhere. I I don't even know if it's a
- 20:17real program even though I've seen lots of games over there
- 20:20that that's about as well. Fun tournament though in Saint
- 20:22Louis is fun. They had Todd Licklider coached
- 20:25him for a while. That's a real program, right?
- 20:27They also had back in our day, back in the 90s, they had the
- 20:30T-shirt jerseys. Remember those ugly things?
- 20:34They were polyester and no, they were not jerseys.
- 20:36They had actual sleeves that went down Evansville.
- 20:40That that is a one of one program, no doubt.
- 20:44Not exactly a college basketball Mecca, to say the least,
- 20:48although they do have a little bit of history there.
- 20:50And sometimes he got a root for the underdog sometimes.
- 20:53And there's no bigger underdog in the Valley than Evansville,
- 20:57year in and year out. The Purple Aces, yeah, I got to
- 20:59the championship game a couple years ago against you and I and
- 21:02I believe that was the season that ended up not having NCAA
- 21:05tournament. Is my memory right on that?
- 21:07Was that the Evansville home? Regardless we'll check it out
- 21:09during the break. Coming back talking Big 12, JT
- 21:11topping out for the year. He'll be we'll be joined, excuse
- 21:15me, by Matt Postings from Heartland College Sports.
- 21:18All things Big 12 next on Miller and Condon.
- 21:36Miller and Connor continues on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 21:39Trent Condon joined today by Todd Brommelkamp.
- 21:42Ken back on Monday as we talk everything college sports with
- 21:47you. Feels like today though a lot
- 21:48else going on. The Canadians still with the
- 21:50lead over the USA in the gold medal game.
- 21:53An Olympic hockey on the women's side, 1 nothing, 535 left in the
- 21:57second period there with the Canadians with the lead.
- 22:00Let's jump over to the Big 12. Matt Poston joins us as he does
- 22:04almost weekly here during college football and college
- 22:07basketball season. Matt, you're down though in
- 22:10Arizona watching some spring training.
- 22:12Got to feel good to get out there, get in the sunshine and
- 22:15watch a little baseball as you're keeping an eye on the
- 22:17Texas Rangers. How you doing today?
- 22:19Yeah, it's a great day to be out here.
- 22:21I mean, it's 60, sunny, little breezy.
- 22:24We got some rain yesterday. But yeah, I've been out here all
- 22:27week. We got spring training opener
- 22:30tomorrow with Kansas City on Friday, and then I'm going to go
- 22:33see the Cubs on Saturday. The Rangers are heading over to
- 22:35Mesa to check out the Cubs. So the great thing about this
- 22:38trip is I've been out here since Friday evening and I've been
- 22:41able to double up Big 12. So I was at the Arizona Tech
- 22:44game on Saturday, Arizona, Arizona State Women on Saturday,
- 22:47and then of course I was at the Tech Arizona State game on
- 22:49Tuesday night when JT Top and suffered that injury and an
- 22:53injury that really kind of changes the course of the Big 12
- 22:56right now. No doubt, and that is certainly
- 22:58one of the biggest things that we wanted to get into.
- 23:00So let's tackle that right now. What we've seen with that injury
- 23:04and and what that means for Texas Tech.
- 23:06I've been a big Texas Tech fan. I have put some of my money on
- 23:10them to make a Final four to win a national championship.
- 23:12That's off the table now. Just an absolute devastating
- 23:16blow and for a program and a program that's easy to root for
- 23:18too. I, I like Mccaslin a lot.
- 23:20I really do respect that guy and what he's done with that
- 23:23program. That is had some tumult.
- 23:25Obviously Chris Beard moving on and and so many different things
- 23:27that have happened there. It felt like they had a real
- 23:30chance. What is the best case scenario
- 23:32now? Anderson's a really nice player.
- 23:34They're not getting to that third weekend though, certainly
- 23:37with the squad they have at this point, right?
- 23:39Yeah, I mean, they might be, they might have a hard time
- 23:42getting out of the first weekend of the tournament, to be honest
- 23:45with you. I I think the biggest question
- 23:46mark with them is, you know, what are they going to do for
- 23:49height? I mean, Anderson, Atwell,
- 23:52they've got some really good 3 point shooters.
- 23:53I could see Mccaslin going to a different type of offense where
- 23:56they space the floor, let their guys shoot 2533 is a game and
- 24:01and see what happens. But I mean, I don't know where
- 24:03they're going to get the rebounding from.
- 24:05I don't know where they're going to get their interior scoring
- 24:07from. They didn't have a whole lot, a
- 24:09lot of functional depth in their front court to begin with.
- 24:12If you go back to 2019 when they made the Final Four, they lost
- 24:15Tariq Owens for a while. They had some good functional
- 24:18depth behind them that they could use to to play inside and
- 24:21outside. I don't see that on this roster
- 24:24right now. They haven't had their other
- 24:25guy, other big guys play a lot. So it's going to be really hard
- 24:29for them I think to get out of the first weekend of the NCAA
- 24:32Tournament. Unless Christian Anderson just
- 24:34goes on a complete here the next few weeks and and two of these
- 24:38other 3 point shooters can really help them out.
- 24:40It's going to be tough for them to get out of the first weekend,
- 24:42I think. We go to another big injury in
- 24:45the Big 12 and that is BYU as they have lost now for the
- 24:48season themselves. Richie Saunders is out, we know
- 24:51an incredible shooter, but he also had some versatility to his
- 24:54game. He was not strictly just a
- 24:55three-point shooter, though. That was definitely his calling
- 24:58card. He still got AJ Dabansta.
- 24:59That's a great place to start things and there are other
- 25:02pieces on this team. Kita, he could really, really at
- 25:05times with his physicality, he plays with inside.
- 25:08This is still a team, though, that has lost five of their last
- 25:11seven. Where do you look at now with
- 25:13BYU hitting the skids a little bit here in this back portion of
- 25:16the schedule? I think their big problem is
- 25:19depth outside of the Donsta and Robert Wright the third.
- 25:22I mean, if you look at their game last night with Arizona,
- 25:25they they dominated from the scoring standpoint and the rest
- 25:29of the roster I think had 10 points in that game.
- 25:31So they're part of their problem all season has been who's going
- 25:34to be their 4th and 5th option from an offensive standpoint.
- 25:37You don't need those guys to score 10 points a game for you,
- 25:39but you need them to chip in without Saunders.
- 25:42Now they have two really prominent scores, but they don't
- 25:46really have anybody else around them that contribute and be 1/3
- 25:49scorer. You saw they tried to junk up
- 25:51the defense last night with Arizona, played some 2332 zone
- 25:54and they tried to pack the paint.
- 25:56They can play some matchups and they they were kind of there.
- 25:59They almost made it A1 possession game at the end of
- 26:01the game. But again, like Texas Tech
- 26:03losing Saunders is such a big deal for them because he was
- 26:06their third scorer. Like you said, he wasn't just a
- 26:08three-point shooter. He could he could, you know,
- 26:11drive to the basket. He could get to the free throw
- 26:13line without him. You know, I think they're
- 26:17they're our first weekend and out team now.
- 26:20It's so funny. We we talked a couple weeks ago.
- 26:22We said, you know, there's five legitimate national championship
- 26:25contenders in this conference. There might only be 3 now, if
- 26:29you think about how you think about Kansas with Peterson kind
- 26:33of defines that. But now we're down to, I think,
- 26:34three true national title contenders in Houston, Arizona
- 26:38and Iowa State. I was just going to ask your
- 26:42thoughts on Iowa State there, but I think that kind of
- 26:44answers, it sounds like you're still a big believer in them.
- 26:48Yeah, I am. I think the them beating Kansas
- 26:51and then bouncing back and beating Houston the other night,
- 26:54the way they beat them, they kind of beat Houston at their
- 26:57own game. The way they played defense, the
- 26:59way they got off to a solid start offensively they seem to
- 27:02have they seem to have solved the slow start offensive issues
- 27:06they were having at the beginning of the year.
- 27:09Their big three have been healthy all year.
- 27:11They've been productive offensively.
- 27:14They're getting really good contributions from from Nate
- 27:16Heisey, from Torre, from some of the other guys in their roster.
- 27:21They're not quite as deep offensively as Arizona is, but
- 27:25you combine the way they play defense, the way they can
- 27:27rebound, the way they can really take important things away from
- 27:31their opponent defensively, they're the kind of team that I
- 27:33think can can excel in the tournament, get into the Sweet
- 27:3616, get into the Elite 8 and perhaps the Final Four.
- 27:39And I love the depth that they have and something that they
- 27:41haven't had the same kind of depth.
- 27:42And he continued to get big shots out of Bateman as he
- 27:45knocked a big one down. Obviously, what Heisey did in
- 27:47the corner there. And then just getting a big body
- 27:50at minimum that can help out with Plato, what he's been able
- 27:53to do for them. They got some pieces off the
- 27:55bench to go along with it. And maybe a healthier Cyclone
- 27:58team by the time the NCAA tournament comes around.
- 28:01We go to Kansas. Darren Peterson, I mentioned it
- 28:03earlier with Todd, who's hanging out with me today.
- 28:06You know, Matt, this Bill Self, just to see the frustration that
- 28:11is seems to be coming out of him, it's almost like he just
- 28:14throwing up his hands and saying, I don't know.
- 28:15And that's kind of the that is the tipping point that we've hit
- 28:18to this point now with Darren Peterson.
- 28:22Yeah, I mean, here's the thing about cramping.
- 28:24And I've, I've dealt with athletes for a long time.
- 28:27Cramping is typically something you can solve.
- 28:30You know, sometimes it's about nutrition, it's about hydration,
- 28:33it's about how you handle off days and things like that.
- 28:36But you know, by and large, the athletes that I have dealt with
- 28:39that have had cramping issues. They're usually temporary.
- 28:42They're not things that last 2-3 months into the season.
- 28:46And I know Peterson's had other injuries aside from cramping.
- 28:49But you know, again, last night, he's half that after about 20
- 28:51minutes with cramping. And it's one of those things
- 28:54where, you know, self can't just come right out and say, hey,
- 28:56what's up with this publicly? Because, you know, he is
- 29:00obviously frustrated, but he he kind of did it in a thinly
- 29:02veiled way after the Oklahoma State win.
- 29:05And I posted this on Twitter earlier today.
- 29:08You know, if for some reason they get into this chart, which
- 29:11they will, and Peterson starts playing 30 plus minutes a game
- 29:14and they get to the final four, the talking heads nationally are
- 29:17going to explode because all they were talking about on first
- 29:20take this morning was about Darren Peterson and whether you
- 29:22should take him with the number one overall pick and things like
- 29:25that. If we find out after the fact
- 29:27that, you know, he and his agents have essentially they've
- 29:29been load managing, that's going to be something that is going to
- 29:33hurt other recruits down the line at his level.
- 29:35Because now you've got to have that conversation with the kid,
- 29:38his agent and his parents about how committed they are to
- 29:41playing, how many minutes in the game you want to play.
- 29:43And that's not a conversation they were having with recruits
- 29:46five years ago. One to get a question in here
- 29:48about Arizona, of course does #1 until last week with the
- 29:51back-to-back losses to Kansas and Texas Tech.
- 29:54We know this is an incredibly talented team, but I guess the
- 29:56knock that has been out there more and more about this squad,
- 29:59today's environment where 3 point shooting is so important.
- 30:02They shoot it OK from out there. They're not awful by any means,
- 30:05they just don't take many of them and when you think of the
- 30:08tournament, you get into that take tight game and the Elite 8
- 30:11have to win two big ones in the Final Four, that kind of thing.
- 30:14When you look at their style of play coupled with Tommy Lloyd
- 30:16and some of the flame outs that he's had both as an assistant
- 30:19now as a head coach at Arizona and Gonzaga before that as an
- 30:22assistant. Arizona, you talk about winning
- 30:24a national championship. What does give you the biggest
- 30:27concern when you put him in that kind of realm?
- 30:31You know, I, I think the biggest concern is probably the
- 30:34three-point shooting. But you know, here's the thing.
- 30:35Last night against BYU, they packed the paint.
- 30:38One of the things that Arizona has that not a lot of teams have
- 30:42in this conference and in this tournament honestly, is they've
- 30:45got a lot of height, a lot of talented, skilled height inside
- 30:48that can rebound and score. So BYU last night, they packed
- 30:51the paint and tried to take the, the, the inside game away from
- 30:54it and they did a good job. Kribots awake waka excuse me
- 30:59they did not have good games inside, but guess what their
- 31:02three-point shooting stepped up. Maybe they didn't shoot a lot,
- 31:05but they'll also had a good game.
- 31:08Their other 3 point shooters had a really good game.
- 31:10They shot a high percentage and that's part of how they won that
- 31:13game. So you know Arizona, Tommy
- 31:17Lloyd's talked about this they they they like their style of
- 31:20play. They like their three-point
- 31:22shooters. They're not going to sell out
- 31:23the shooting 20253 pointers in the game, but if they can shoot
- 31:27the kind of percentage that they shot last night in, in games
- 31:30where teams are trying to take their inside game away from
- 31:33them, then they're going to be OK.
- 31:35Everything else they've got, They've got a 8-9 deep line up.
- 31:38They play great defense. The game against Texas Tech,
- 31:42they handled that environment. They handled Texas Tech very
- 31:45well. You know, just one of those one
- 31:47possession games where the last team that had the ball 1.
- 31:51I'm not really worried about them with Pete being out and
- 31:53Aristotle being out. They've got so much depth.
- 31:56The three-point shooting can be a problem in the NCAA
- 31:59Tournament, but they have so many other assets on the
- 32:01offensive end that I think they can navigate around it and get
- 32:04to the Final Four. One more on the Big 12 and we
- 32:08know the top level teams that we've talked about and that's
- 32:10really been all the conversation has been about the teams at the
- 32:13top. You look at a team like a TCU
- 32:16and how they sit at six and seven with some of the top level
- 32:18wins that they have, including being in Iowa State a week ago,
- 32:21UCUCF, you saw them against Texas Tech here a couple of
- 32:24Saturdays ago. They look like the best team in
- 32:26the country at that day and yet then they lose three in a row
- 32:29after that. This middle portion of the
- 32:32conference. Is anybody going to step up?
- 32:34West Virginia last night, What are they doing losing at home to
- 32:37Utah? That was an absolute head
- 32:39scratcher out there. Is there a real potential here
- 32:42where we're just talking about the six teams that we talked
- 32:44about the most and that's it coming out of the Big 12?
- 32:48Well, it's funny you should ask that because I have a piece
- 32:50coming up at Heartland later today and we're going to go
- 32:53through the four bubble teams, UCFTCU, West Virginia and
- 32:56Oklahoma State. I thought UCF didn't like cement
- 33:00themselves but I think they solidified themselves with that
- 33:03win over TCU last night. I go back to something I wrote
- 33:07in January. Teams that win 10 or more games
- 33:10in non conference and get to 20 wins by the Big 12 tournament in
- 33:13this conference in the last 8 non COVID years they get to the
- 33:18NCAA tournament 36 out of 37 times.
- 33:20The one team that didn't was Oklahoma a few years ago.
- 33:23UCFTCU and Oklahoma State are all three teams that won at
- 33:27least 10 games in non conference.
- 33:29I think UCF is going to get the 20 wins.
- 33:31I think TCU has to get the 20 wins.
- 33:33And TCU actually has the most navigable schedule of the four
- 33:37because they've got they only have one quad one game left.
- 33:40But that's Texas Tech and that's now a an interesting game with
- 33:44no topping in the lineup. The other four games, they're
- 33:46all quad two games and all winnable games and three of them
- 33:49were at home. They probably have the best path
- 33:52to getting the 20 wins and getting into the tournament
- 33:56along with UCFI think as long as UCF wins two or three more
- 33:59games, I think they're in. I think the question is whether
- 34:02or not TCU, Oklahoma State and West Virginia can find a way to
- 34:06be that eighth team that gets in.
- 34:08And the problem is because they've back loaded the schedule
- 34:10so much with the top teams, UCF, West Virginia, TCU and Oklahoma
- 34:15State are playing each other so much.
- 34:17Down the line they may cancel each other out.
- 34:20So what the league really needs is they need one or two teams to
- 34:22kind of dominate that little group down the stretch and get
- 34:25in. If it's a situation where they
- 34:27all just kind of beat up on one another, then yeah, the scenario
- 34:30you're throwing out where maybe UCF doesn't get in is a
- 34:33possibility. We're talking right now with
- 34:38Matt Postons from Heartland College Sports.
- 34:40Matt, you're in Arizona. One final thing, the Rangers now
- 34:43full caveat, as we've been talking to gambling a little bit
- 34:45earlier, I got sucked in a year ago because Ken and you I think
- 34:48talked me into the Rangers and talk about ripping up tickets.
- 34:51That was definitely a case for them a year ago and a very
- 34:54injury plagued team a season ago.
- 34:57Wyatt Lankford, I believe on his way to super stardom.
- 35:00What we're going to see out of him, a healthy Corey Seeger,
- 35:02what we know he can do. They're going to be able to
- 35:04swing it this year. They go out, they get Mackenzie
- 35:06Gore to help out in that rotation with degrom and a
- 35:09Valdi. It comes down to health.
- 35:11Is it as simple as that for the Texas Rangers?
- 35:13They'll be a contender if healthy.
- 35:15I think so. I mean this, this rotation has
- 35:18the potential to be one of the best in baseball as it was last
- 35:21year. They've been working a lot
- 35:24offensively on trying to get their holdover players to be
- 35:27able to do more things at the plate.
- 35:29I think they were very limited in certain parts of their
- 35:32lineup, guys that really only did one thing while at the
- 35:34plate. That's why their offensive
- 35:35members have, you know, tumbled the past two years.
- 35:38I think Brandon Nimmo is going to give them a lot from an on
- 35:41base percentage. He's probably going to hit lead
- 35:43off for them, which is going to give them a really good table
- 35:47setter. The question is, along with
- 35:49health, it's the bullpen. They're they're remaking the
- 35:52bullpen once again. They're they don't have a true
- 35:54closer and they were one of the worst teams in baseball last
- 35:58year in converting saves. Had they converted seven more
- 36:01saves last year, they would have actually made the playoffs.
- 36:03That that that's how thin the margin was for them.
- 36:05They're hoping that Alexis Diaz can can bounce back from a
- 36:09horrible 2025. They're not going to put
- 36:11pressure on them. They're going to start with
- 36:13Robert Garcia and Chris Martin as their closers.
- 36:15But that's going to be the question, can they put together
- 36:17a bullpen? And that can duplicate what that
- 36:19bullpen did last year, which was aside from saves, they were the
- 36:23best bullpen in baseball. The offense was what really held
- 36:26them back. So if they're offensive players
- 36:27can stay healthy, if the rotation stays healthy and
- 36:30everybody performs the way they're expected to perform,
- 36:33then yeah, they can absolutely be in contention to win the
- 36:35American League West and get in the playoffs.
- 36:37What was Josh Young's injury last year?
- 36:39Wasn't a weird one. You know, Josh Young actually
- 36:42was pretty healthy last year, had back spasms to start the
- 36:45year and he was helping pretty much the rest of the year.
- 36:48We were actually talking about him yesterday with the manager,
- 36:50Skip Schumacher. And yeah, we had the fractured
- 36:52wrist in 2024 season never really, never really got going.
- 36:57He he actually got sent down for like 2 1/2 weeks last year
- 37:00because he he was chasing too much and he was striking out too
- 37:03much as approach just wasn't where they wanted it.
- 37:06Skip mentioned that, you know, he, you know, when you get an
- 37:08injury to your hands as a hitter, that can be the worst
- 37:11possible injury. Actually said I'd rather get hit
- 37:14in the face and get hit in the hands because, you know, the
- 37:16hands are what carry you with the plate.
- 37:19And, you know, he said sometimes it takes longer to get over that
- 37:22injury, not necessarily to get healthy, but to get in a
- 37:24position where you can be, you know, productive off
- 37:27offensively. And Young really wasn't that
- 37:29productive offensively last year.
- 37:30I, I can tell you this, I've watched his live VPS the last
- 37:33three days. That guy's raking.
- 37:35I mean, he, he feels like he's in a position where he could
- 37:37have a really good offensive year for him like a lot of these
- 37:41other guys, because he's had health issues in the past.
- 37:43It's about staying healthy. You can tell I'm starting to
- 37:47prepare a little bit for my fantasy Baseball League with
- 37:49that line of questioning there, and I'll see where he is.
- 37:52On my list for Josh Young coming up this season as I put together
- 37:55by order at third base, Matt Post is Hartley College Sports.
- 37:58Matt, as always, appreciate the time.
- 37:59We'll talk again soon, all. Right.
- 38:01Thanks, guys. Appreciate it.
- 38:02Enjoy Arizona, he has Matt Postons heartland college sports
- 38:06all things Big 12. You a fantasy baseball player,
- 38:09Todd? I am, as a matter of fact, I've
- 38:11got a dynasty league draft that's going on the last couple
- 38:15weeks. I'm in a really deep dynasty
- 38:18league. I'm talking drafting guys that
- 38:20are like 1718 years old, so. That is, I.
- 38:24Did not have, I did not have talking Texas Rangers baseball
- 38:26on my bingo card today. But I was just, it inspired.
- 38:29I was trying to find odds on American League Manager of the
- 38:32Year because I certainly would not sleep on Skip Schumacher.
- 38:35Well, I think. And I I took it a step further
- 38:38and I was looking to see find somebody maybe to pair up with
- 38:41the Dodgers in the World Series. I see Circus got some exactas on
- 38:44that front. Think it was plus 30, 550,
- 38:47something like that. A little bit better than 35 to 1
- 38:50because the Dodgers are going to win it again.
- 38:52It's inevitable, right? Oh absolutely.
- 38:55OK, so pick an American League team, pair them with the Dodgers
- 38:59and see whether or not you can be in a good position to hedge
- 39:04things in about 8 months. And we'll get into late October
- 39:08and I'll probably be losing all my football bets.
- 39:10So I'll be looking for something at least in that resume in My
- 39:12Portfolio that can help me out and maybe one of those future
- 39:15tickets can beat my lottery ticket to keep my head above
- 39:17water during football season. If it was as bad as November was
- 39:21last year, woof, it has been terrible.
- 39:23Speaking of terrible, it's time for picks of the day now.
- 39:25Todd gave us a winner last week. We'll see if he can go 2 for
- 39:29two. Pressure is odd.
- 39:31TNTS picks of the day presented by Circus Sports, that's next.
- 39:34Don Miller and Condon. One final time back with you on
- 39:50a Thursday. Miller and Condon on the Iowa
- 39:52Sports Radio Network, one O 6.3 KXO along with our fine
- 39:56affiliates in Sioux City, IA City, Cedar Rapids and the Quad
- 39:59Cities. Welcome aboard with us here
- 40:01today as Todd Bromlichamp joins us.
- 40:04Todd, you put on social media. This is it.
- 40:06Wait, nobody's ever going to be able to talk you back into
- 40:08radio. Is that what you're telling me?
- 40:10No, not full time. No, I think this is it.
- 40:13Yeah, I did you know, there were there were couple people that I
- 40:18would have liked to have worked with and and I got to do a
- 40:21couple shows with you, but I'm having fun selling cars.
- 40:25Yeah, it's AII feel like a completely new person so.
- 40:29Well, Speaking of that, Todd, and you mentioned it's different
- 40:32than our business and radio over there and what you're able to do
- 40:36free plug for you and what you're doing over there in Cedar
- 40:38Rapids. Yeah, I'm at I'm in the business
- 40:42development side of things at Castle Motors.
- 40:44Landon Castle, the former NASCAR driver is one of my bosses and
- 40:50outstanding used car selection at castlemotors.com.
- 40:54That's CASSILL Castle Motors. There it is, Todd Bromlichamp.
- 40:59Go see him over there in Cedar Rapids, or if you're making the
- 41:01drive over, see something online that you like.
- 41:03You can make the drive over to CR as well and see Todd and
- 41:06he'll hook you up with that. We'll try to hook you up with a
- 41:09couple of wins now. It is not exactly gone
- 41:12swimmingly for me again, though, things have been better over the
- 41:15last week. Let's see what what is.
- 41:16How about this 21 and 18 over the last seven days?
- 41:19That's winning. Even with the juice.
- 41:21We're up .9 units. We'll take that every single
- 41:24time. I have 3 plays for today.
- 41:27College basketball is light. I just got one.
- 41:29I got it. I had to dig into the Summit
- 41:30League. I like to dig into the Summit
- 41:32League from time to time. I'm taking the Coyotes tonight.
- 41:35They're getting 6 1/2. They're making their way out to
- 41:37Denver to take on The Pioneers. We're going to grab the 6 1/2
- 41:40with them in a very even matchup.
- 41:42So Denver tried to do what Drake did a year ago.
- 41:45They got a D2 coach. He brought a bunch of his guys
- 41:47with them. The problem, they're not nearly
- 41:49good as meanwhile, not nearly as good as Tapian Banks and Bennett
- 41:53Sturtz, but they tried the same thing.
- 41:55South Dakota, kind of a down year for them.
- 41:57Still big number there. I'm taking Purdue tonight
- 41:59against the Iowa women. 16 1/2 is too many on the road.
- 42:03back-to-back games here. Sleepy spot.
- 42:05Purdue not great. Better than they have been
- 42:07though recently a couple of different years.
- 42:09And then this is how bad it is. I'm playing an NBA game, given
- 42:12the Hornets plus the four and a half.
- 42:15All right, I like, I I didn't think my pick was looking good
- 42:18last week and then it came in Yeah, the.
- 42:20First half was a disaster. Yeah, the first half was bad,
- 42:23but NB as back in action tonight.
- 42:26I'm looking out to Golden State, Boston, Golden State, Steph
- 42:30Curry still out. Warriors have lost four or six
- 42:32going into the break, Still no Jason Tatum.
- 42:36I see value with Golden State getting 6 1/2 at home tonight.
- 42:40Kristaps Porzingis making his debut.
- 42:42I think the Warriors have a shot at winning that one. 9 O clock
- 42:45on Amazon prime. I watched a lot of prime as it
- 42:48comes to watching the NFL on Thursdays.
- 42:51I have still not flipped over for an NBA game for Amazon
- 42:54Prime. Have you that?
- 42:55Makes two of us. Yeah, and I'm going to guess
- 42:58football is one thing and, and certainly when it's one game a
- 43:00week, but I never, I seriously, I don't ever even think about
- 43:04it. And if it's not on my guide, I'm
- 43:06not going to get there unless it's a football game.
- 43:09And we can't be alone on that. Or are we just turning into the
- 43:11old guys now? I was going to say, we're
- 43:13turning into the old guys here talking about the old days of
- 43:15One Eyed Jakes. If it's not on my TV Guide, I'm
- 43:19not going out of my way to watch it.
- 43:21That's. Unfortunately, that is the new
- 43:23reality. But that's what happens, all of
- 43:26us. You keep getting older and those
- 43:28memories are in the rearview mirror.
- 43:30I told the story I never told on the air ever yesterday and there
- 43:33were so many parts that a guy that was a small part of the
- 43:35story was in the town that he was involved in.
- 43:37He knew details that I completely forgot about memory.
- 43:41Got to play those games, right? Aren't those games supposed to
- 43:43help you with your memory? I need some help.
- 43:45Yeah, this daily sudoku do some crosswords.
- 43:49Do that, we'll work on it. My wife does it.
- 43:51I I need to get into that as well.
- 43:52Hey Todd, it's been so much fun having you with us here on these
- 43:55last two Thursdays. Thank you so much for joining
- 43:57us. Absolutely.
- 43:59It's been great. Todd Brommelcamp joining us here
- 44:01today on the program, Miller and Condon.
- 44:05Ken back on Monday. Tomorrow, one more show minus
- 44:08him. But it is a football Friday
- 44:09minus the football. We'll talk Hawks, we'll talk
- 44:11clones. We got a whole lot more for you
- 44:13coming up next off the bench with Lucas and Connor.
- 44:16They'll take you home until 5. Thanks for being with us today.
