- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:38Hi, it's Adam. Here 1.
- 0:41Of. The most socially.
- 0:43Accepted drugs that exist in most Western societies is
- 0:48alcohol. And when I was young I would see
- 0:52adults in my family, my parents, drinking like it was nothing.
- 0:56It's just what they did on an evening, it's what they did on a
- 0:58weekend. And if they were stressed, they
- 1:00would drink, and if they were celebrating, they would drink.
- 1:03Alcohol was always, ever. Present because of that it's in
- 1:08societies all around us, is very socially acceptable.
- 1:11We start to forget that it is a drug and it's a drug that can
- 1:15have addictive qualities, that some people can become dependent
- 1:19and they use it as a form of self medication.
- 1:22And because of that there's a lot of people that have
- 1:25difficult relationships with alcohol.
- 1:29I myself chose about nearly eight years ago not to drink
- 1:33anymore. And it really came from this
- 1:35idea of all the very worst things and the biggest risks in
- 1:38my life were somehow connected with alcohol.
- 1:42And I asked myself the question, if at the age of 40, knowing
- 1:47everything that I now know, would I start drinking alcohol
- 1:49if I never started, what would the answer be?
- 1:52And the answer was a clear no for me.
- 1:54So that's one of the main reasons that I stopped drinking
- 1:57alcohol in that particular moment.
- 2:00That was nearly eight years ago. But not everyone wants to not
- 2:03drink at all. I think most people that drink,
- 2:06they just want a better relationship with alcohol, ease
- 2:10out the extremes and have more moderation.
- 2:12And this hypnosis session is designed to really tap into the
- 2:16essence of reducing consumption by boundaries and discernment
- 2:21and resource states so that you get to kind of have the kind of
- 2:25relationship with alcohol that you actually want.
- 2:27Not that it's just an echo of previous habits and behaviours
- 2:31and beliefs from the past. It was created for an
- 2:34individual. Their situation is probably not
- 2:36your exact situation. So if you like the idea of
- 2:40changing your relationship with alcohol and this doesn't quite
- 2:44fit perfectly, I would encourage you to look in the show notes,
- 2:47take a suitability test or watch the webinar that I have there
- 2:51and that will give you an idea as to whether or not
- 2:53hypnotherapy could be useful for you.
- 2:56For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 2:59won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 3:01Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 3:18you breathe in, breathe in that slow, long, relaxing breath.
- 3:26And as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to close.
- 3:32And as they close, allow yourself to position your body
- 3:37in a way where relaxation is inevitable.
- 3:43You feel more comfortable and relaxed.
- 3:48That's it. Breathing in that resourceful
- 3:51feeling of calm and relaxation and releasing any feelings of
- 3:58tension, stress, and worries. Just allowing it to leave your
- 4:02body every outward breath. And when you breathe in, set the
- 4:13intention to breathe in slightly deeper than before.
- 4:20And as you exhale, notice what happens when you elongate the
- 4:28outward breath. Just a second or two longer in
- 4:34the outward breath. And perhaps you notice that the
- 4:38deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel, almost like
- 4:45there's a switch from alertness to calmness, from logic to
- 4:53emotion to analysis to interpretation.
- 5:03And do a quick scan of your body, scanning for any
- 5:10heaviness, tension. Scan your breathing rate, your
- 5:17breathing from the chest or the diaphragm.
- 5:23Is your jaw tense or relaxed? I set the intention that
- 5:29whenever you find tension, rigidity to release it in every
- 5:40outward breath, meaning that each breath takes you
- 5:46incrementally to a new level of relaxation, which enhances that
- 5:54neural plasticity. Which means thoughts can become
- 6:00ideas, ideas can become intentions, and intentions can
- 6:06become new realities. As you breathe in and breathe
- 6:14out, just imagine thinking of your life.
- 6:21Think of your life in blocks of 10 and think of the period of
- 6:27your life when alcohol started up to the present, the
- 6:37scientific, analytical perspective in terms of what did
- 6:44it give and what did it take. And maybe you can find the 10
- 6:53years where alcohol was giving more than it was taking.
- 7:01And maybe that was your 20s or maybe a different period.
- 7:09But I want you to notice that as time got closer to the present,
- 7:15alcohol started taking more than it was giving.
- 7:20What once was a good decision became less beneficial as time
- 7:31went on. And some people don't update
- 7:44their behaviours and beliefs. There were things that you did
- 7:50when you were a child that made sense when you were a child, but
- 8:00when you were a teenager, you made a quick re evaluation.
- 8:08There may have been a time when you were listening to certain
- 8:10music, playing with certain toys, and you made a rapid
- 8:17evaluation. I don't want to do that anymore.
- 8:24And as you think back to that change, notice how effortless it
- 8:30was. No drama, no struggle.
- 8:36You simply made an evaluation that something you used to do
- 8:41didn't fit with who you were when you made that new decision.
- 8:51And what may have been useful, beneficial, even fun in your 20s
- 8:58may not be useful, fun, or beneficial right now.
- 9:03And when you start looking at your life from this new
- 9:11perspective, ask yourself the question that if you had never
- 9:18drunk at all, would you start drinking now?
- 9:25If you'd already figured out how to have fun in social
- 9:28situations, how to deal with intense emotions, how to find
- 9:37the right things to complement a good meal, would you now, at
- 9:42this age, introduce alcohol when you've already figured out how
- 9:48to live life without it? Allow your intuition to answer
- 9:59that question for you. No need to force it, your
- 10:04unconscious already knows. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 10:14relaxed you feel. The more relaxed you feel, the
- 10:19deeper you breathe. And as your body relaxes, your
- 10:24imagination awakens. And as your breathing deepens, I
- 10:32wonder if you can imagine a version of you.
- 10:39Not a fantasy, not a fake, but a real version.
- 10:47A version of you that perhaps already exists in a parallel
- 10:52path of your life. A version of you who simply
- 10:57doesn't drink alcohol. And not because they're
- 11:01resisting, and not because they're deprived, but because
- 11:07they no longer need to and they no longer want to.
- 11:14This is a version of you when not drinking isn't a sacrifice,
- 11:23it's not a struggle. It's an empowered, discerning
- 11:28enhancement to their life. And as you observe this version
- 11:34of you notice how they move, how they think, how they carry
- 11:43themselves. There's something different,
- 11:52perhaps. A quiet certainty, a confidence,
- 11:56a clarity, A presence. Because for them, alcohol is no
- 12:03longer associated with confidence and fun.
- 12:09They are confident without it. It's not something they switch
- 12:16on after a few drinks. They simply are confident.
- 12:24And you may notice that in social situations, they're not
- 12:29scanning the room, they're not managing impressions.
- 12:32They're simply present, grounded, comfortable,
- 12:41comfortable in their own skin because they are authentic.
- 12:47No need to try and fit in, no need to seek approval.
- 12:55Maybe you can connect with what feels like truth, but nothing
- 13:01has been taken away from them. But many things have been
- 13:07upgraded or enhanced. Maybe their energy is cleaner,
- 13:13their thinking sharper, their decisions more decisive, their
- 13:21body feels lighter and maybe their sleep is deeper.
- 13:27And maybe when challenges and problems arise, they meet it
- 13:34differently. And as you observe that
- 13:41different version of you, what if there's something surprising,
- 13:53but they still enjoy everything they used to enjoy, but more
- 14:01because now there's no darling, no compromise, no second
- 14:04guessing. And the important thing is that
- 14:10there is no struggle in this version of you.
- 14:15They're not someone who is trying not to drink, not someone
- 14:21using self-control and discipline.
- 14:25They are someone who simply doesn't connect or identify with
- 14:30drinking alcohol anymore. That version of them doesn't
- 14:39want it because if at the identity level, that version
- 14:51doesn't need it, doesn't want it and life is better without it.
- 14:56There is no resistance, there is no struggle, there is no feeling
- 15:00of missing out. When identity shifts, behaviour
- 15:07follows effortlessly. And what if that old idea that
- 15:18alcohol created confidence or connection or relaxation or
- 15:22enjoyment was never actually true?
- 15:28It was just something that happened at the same time.
- 15:36I want you to get a sense that there is a difference, a
- 15:42difference between causality and similarity.
- 15:55Maybe you did link the 2 back then in your 20s you were having
- 16:01fun and alcohol was involved and you added 1 + 1 and came up with
- 16:09three. Alcohol is fun, alcohol creates
- 16:14fun. But what if it was the people,
- 16:21the places, the situations, the conversations that led to fun
- 16:28and connection, and not the alcohol?
- 16:33So allow that link to dissolve any false equivalences, Any
- 16:44cognitive dissonance just melts away like ice in heat, and
- 16:51something stronger replaces it. You are the source of how you
- 17:00feel, not a drink. But you.
- 17:13And you can make choices about what to do, where to be, who to
- 17:20connect with. All of that is empowered, is
- 17:27discerning, is enhancing. If life without alcohol gets
- 17:36better, you don't need struggle not to drink it.
- 17:43And I want you to get close to that version of you, the version
- 17:46of you that doesn't drink, doesn't want to, doesn't need
- 17:50to, and life is better. And just imagine stepping into
- 17:55that version of you, no longer watching or observing them
- 18:00anymore, but becoming them. And leave the version behind,
- 18:09the version that wanted needed to drink alcohol.
- 18:17Leave the old version and step into the new.
- 18:21Feel what they feel, think how they think and stand how they
- 18:25stand. And notice how comfortable this
- 18:33feels. Like trying on new clothes or
- 18:39new shoes that just fit you perfectly, not needing to
- 18:47adjust, they just fit you fine as they are.
- 18:54The ease, The lack of internal negotiation.
- 19:00No Should I or shouldn't I? It's already decided at the
- 19:06level of identity. And imagine a situation where
- 19:11someone offers a drink, gets bottles of wine for a table of a
- 19:17group meal, and notice there's no tension, no pressure, just a
- 19:23calm mutual clarity. A vegan that is a vegan at the
- 19:35identity level doesn't need willpower not to eat meat.
- 19:42And someone that doesn't drink at the identity level doesn't
- 19:47need willpower or discipline or self-control not to drink.
- 19:53Feel what it would feel like when it's something you simply
- 19:57no longer do, no longer want, and no longer need.
- 20:09You're not losing anything. You're gaining something far
- 20:13more valuable. Maybe it's more self respect,
- 20:19more clarity, more freedom. More energy, better health.
- 20:26You may even notice a quiet sense of pride.
- 20:31Not righteous, not performative. A sense of you're proud of this
- 20:37choice. It fits where you are now.
- 20:44You're no longer outsourcing how you feel, you're generating it
- 20:49from within. It's not about a future where
- 20:55you lose alcohol. It's a future where you gain
- 20:59more of yourself, more resources, more options, more
- 21:04choices. Imagine what you would be
- 21:09drinking instead. Maybe it's a particular brand of
- 21:16sparkling water. Imagine hearing the bubbles, the
- 21:23sound of it pouring into a glass.
- 21:29Connect with the feeling that this is better.
- 21:34You would rather have that sparkling water than anything
- 21:40else to really connect with this version of you.
- 21:45A version that is clear minded and energized, aligned,
- 21:52connected and free. Imagine what it would be like
- 21:58this for a week and then a month.
- 22:04No need to make big announcements, you just act in
- 22:09accordance with this new identity.
- 22:14Someone offers you a drink, you have a reason why not.
- 22:18No need for debate, no need for justification.
- 22:25This is what you do because this is who you are.
- 22:31As days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months, I want
- 22:34you to imagine one day in the future where it feels strange to
- 22:39even think that alcohol was ever a part of your life.
- 22:47Or that there was a time that you did want it or need it
- 22:52because this version of you truly doesn't want it, truly
- 22:57doesn't need it. And you can see that other
- 23:02people do want it, maybe do need it.
- 23:07It's just that you don't. So connect with that feeling of
- 23:12liberation, that the liberation you experience in the future
- 23:19starts with a simple decision. Now, do you remain in this new
- 23:27version of you, or do you choose to step back into the old
- 23:34version of you and when your unconscious is ready to make
- 23:41that choice? To connect with the version of
- 23:50you that does not want alcohol, does not need it, and life is
- 23:54better without it. Then lock that identity in and
- 24:07you could drink if you want to but you don't want to.
- 24:12And you could always go back to that old identity whenever you
- 24:17choose, but that would require a new decision to choose it.
- 24:28Allow the integration and recalibration to take place,
- 24:34Thinking about key moments in the future and how they will be
- 24:38different. Social situations, workplace
- 24:47gatherings. See the new version of you in
- 24:55those future moments where your experience is enhanced because
- 25:06of this new identity. Time to return to the present,
- 25:13taking all of these changes with you.
- 25:18Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 25:22nose and wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 25:27Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 25:32from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 25:36You will awaken feeling resourceful, confident and
- 25:40connected to this new version of you.
- 25:46It just seems to fit. Starting to count. 123 Waking up
