- 0:00Go White and Moran Master Melvin Robbie Annam McGraw talking' b a subwis series in
- 0:11New York. That's right, it's a time of year. It's the Subway
- 0:16series in New York City Tonight between the Yankees and the Mets. I would
- 0:21like to say there's two editions. It's the City Field edition this week,
- 0:25and boy oh boy, if the Yanks ever needed to beat up on the
- 0:29Mets, it's right now. They've lost three straight series, really in rough
- 0:34fashion. But personally, this series just means a lot because over the last
- 0:40thirty years, it feels like I've just got to know so many people,
- 0:44and you get that heightened sense when the man behind the mic for the Mets
- 0:49tonight on WCBS is one how he Rose And maybe you don't know if you
- 0:55haven't listened before, but how He Rose and I have a connection when it
- 0:59comes to announcing, because of course I did play by play for Queen's College.
- 1:03He was one of the first guys to ever do play by play for
- 1:07Queen's College when he announced women's basketball against the Macchiolata and whatnot. But I
- 1:15had the special honor of sitting down with him in the WQMC studios about fifteen
- 1:21years ago. Fourteen years ago in fact, at a b sporty event on
- 1:26campus, and he spent some time on me in the WQMC studios and in
- 1:30his fifty years. I want to start here because what Howie Rose told me,
- 1:34and replaying this actually made me a little emotional. Hopefully will inspire other
- 1:42generations of Queen's College and broadcasting hopefuls take a listen. Prinsically, I find
- 1:51radio much more rewarning from a creative standpoint, and I think most people do.
- 1:56Now you've come to Queen's College, since you've got her, and obviously
- 2:00what's it like every time you come back here? It's great. I get
- 2:05such tremendous flashbacks. In fact, I was just telling David de Motto,
- 2:08whom I met at Kylie Hall, that you know here it is thirty three
- 2:14years I guess since I graduated or something like that, right, yeah,
- 2:16thirty three years since I graduated. And Kylie Hall used to be called back
- 2:23to the olden days when I was here Academic two. I don't know why
- 2:27there was no Academic one, but that building was called Academic two and it
- 2:30has a scent I wouldn't call it a stench. It's not a smell,
- 2:35it's not an aroma, it's a it's not anything negative, but it's amazing.
- 2:42I walked into that place today and it literally transported my senses back to
- 2:46nineteen seventy three. Was wild. So I always think when I'm back on
- 2:51campus of people I knew then, what I was doing then, what I
- 2:54aspired to do then, and what I'm doing now, and is a very
- 2:58humbling experience because I think what I'm doing now even exceeds, to some extent
- 3:02my wildest dreams back then. But I think back to how wide eyed and
- 3:07how ambitious we all were back then, just as you are now. And
- 3:12you know, one of the reasons I'm here today is to convince you and
- 3:15anybody else, regardless of what their passion is or what their interests long term
- 3:21are, that just put in the work and don't ever let anybody tell you
- 3:24that you can't do it, and you'll get there. You'll make it.
- 3:28Interestingly enough, seven years after that interview took place, I happen to be
- 3:32a prep member of the press or doctor Dan Miller and the Queen's Gazette,
- 3:39and I talked to how he again He actually stopped by before first pitch in
- 3:44the press box in twenty seventeen, and we shoot the breeze a little.
- 3:49Betty was finding out how I was doing in radio, and I email in
- 3:52time to time, and I'm probably gonna email saying congratulations on fifty years.
- 3:57And so I have that connection with how He Rose, not just I've known
- 4:00him from Queen's but even before that. I mean, there was a time
- 4:02when he would have us up in the press booth before batting, you know,
- 4:06during batting practice at Chase Stadium. That's how long he and I and
- 4:11my dad and I have known Howie Rose. And of course my dad loved
- 4:15talking with how He Rose whenever he got the chance. And then that same
- 4:18night that he stopped by the press box in twenty seventeen, I talked with
- 4:23Brandon Nimmo, who, yes, is obviously still a Met and he's doing
- 4:27pretty good. But we talked about a former Yankee and Met, Curtis Granderson,
- 4:31because this was the day Granderson was actually traded from the Mets, and
- 4:36a young Brandon Nemo stopped talking to me on the field at City Field.
- 4:44So Brandon, you're starting tonight at part you know, you're in the leadoffs
- 4:46at tonight, but it's gonna be a lineup without Curtis. All about that,
- 4:49and how do you feel. You know, we all loved Curtis,
- 4:53but you know it's part of the business, and so you have to inter
- 4:57realize that, h and that you know, I think we all just have
- 5:01to go about our business the same way. Remember how you went about his
- 5:05kidnas. He was an incredible guy. He really led my example, So
- 5:11just trying to you know, keep his work ethic and his unblest all live.
- 5:15And now having back up a little while now, so once you like
- 5:18being back up here, and what do you as you said, what are
- 5:20you working on? You know, just just really having fun and and you
- 5:25know, swinging the bat, you know, working on the defense. It's
- 5:29it's, you know, working on all of it. It can all be
- 5:31improved anything of the days you stopped working, days stopped playing. So you
- 5:38just keep working on on your whole game, trying to improve. Soll hi,
- 5:41Brannon, well good luck to the rest of us. Question got it?
- 5:44Thank you? I was Brandon Nemo and of course he'll be in the
- 5:46lineup tonight. And actually Gabby and I were at the game where he hit
- 5:49the game winning hit last year against the Yankees at City Field. And I'm
- 5:54sure you know that it is funny people talk about Grimace being the big turnaround.
- 6:00I look at that throwing the crowd, throwing the glove in the crowd,
- 6:03tantrum that led to a closed door meeting. And the Mets have really
- 6:12excelled since Lindor brought the crew together, and now they're one game out of
- 6:17a playoff spot heading into play today for a team that was zero and five
- 6:23to start the year, and I'm looking pretty bad at April wan a turnaround.
- 6:27Meanwhile, the Yankees, by the way, two and a half up
- 6:30on the O's now or two games up on the O's now, And that's
- 6:32fascinating too, because they've been losing three straight series. They were three and
- 6:38seven their last ten, and yet here they are two games up because the
- 6:43Astro swept the ools right after that seventeen to five jumping up the Yankees.
- 6:47Baseball is funny, is it not. Now I want to get to a
- 6:51couple of active players that have also joined me. In fact, you might
- 6:57have heard this media for playing this up and for promoting it and whatnot.
- 7:03And thanks to Woodbridge Brewery remaining has happened, of course thanks to Gabby for
- 7:09i'ves get in there as well at the Woodbridge Brewery. But yes, we
- 7:13had the chance to talk with one Nestor or Tests all right, tests starting
- 7:19touching the Yankees Small you started the key today? Tell us what that was
- 7:23like? Yeah? Wow for Miami, so this is we're used to similar
- 7:27weather to to what I'm used to. So it was it was I mean,
- 7:29it was high, was I was funny, but it was uh comfortable
- 7:31for me. Now obviously you come to Woodbridge. What was today like for
- 7:34you being around all these people? I love you man, Yeah, it
- 7:36was awesome. It was a good experience. This face looks amazing. Staff
- 7:42was really great to me. Uh just how on a funnel? All?
- 7:45All right, you guys got a really good season so far. What do
- 7:46you guys gotta do to take it to the next level? Yeah, I
- 7:49think kind of be more consistent on what we're doing. I feel like we've
- 7:55been pitching and hitting great, but sometimes we've been pitching more than we'll be
- 7:58hitting. So I think when we grew it out together and it's gonna be
- 8:01fun, call back in the rotation. Really boost and talk about what that
- 8:03means to you guys. Yeah, I mean, Garrett's one of the best
- 8:05pitching in the big weeks, if not the best. He's got out there
- 8:09and help us every five days. We're gonna be happy that he's gonna be
- 8:13on the mound and he's gonna help us one game. All right, Well,
- 8:15thank you so much. Next thing, nice joining the care podcast.
- 8:18That way an interesting time in Garrett Cole gets the ball tonight and you know,
- 8:24his first start, he was okay, he was a little shaky,
- 8:28but I was a little pissed they took him out after a few weeks.
- 8:31I mean he only pitched I'm four and a third or whatever, and they
- 8:35took him out. There was a chance to keep him in there for five
- 8:39but Boone and the analytics department kept it safe. That being said, it
- 8:43was awesome to see Garrett Cole And actually in my wallet there's a hope week
- 8:48pin that he with that right room? Is that right handed? Is that
- 8:52won this young handed me at the Today Show plaza where I got to meet
- 8:56Anthony Rizzo and BOFE as well, And to be honest, I didn't want
- 9:01to whip out the recorder because they were about to go on air. I
- 9:03didn't want to really get their thoughts before they were going on there, so
- 9:07so be it. At least I got to meet them and have that story
- 9:09of getting to meet Anthony Rizzo Cole and Anthony Bobie who were out there Hope
- 9:15Week a great community initiative. By the way, now, another active player
- 9:22I've gotten to meet me and talk with was Glaber Taurus at the Thurman Monthson
- 9:26dinner. I'miro Glaber tourists for it's the Yankee screen off here the Thurmon Monthson
- 9:33Awards dinner or the anniversary. By the way, he wantson like to be
- 9:37here. What's it means her to be here tonight? Get feel proud to
- 9:41be here? Say over for me to be far off gray uh people here?
- 9:50And I just want to jolly him and be continued to do what I
- 9:54do. I'm excited to feel and that's happening soon. So spring training coming
- 9:58up, I think I thought on twit trip excited to vote to the string
- 10:05I'm white to we'll say my favorites. I am going to write to flavorally
- 10:09well all right, thanks Flavor bless you and so very humble guy. And
- 10:15a very big player all on the shanky team as you well know. You
- 10:18know you can't go without. How about Therma Munson and not talking about the
- 10:24great Diana Munson, the woman who of course is the widow of Therman Munson,
- 10:28but more importantly she also keeps alive the legacy of Thurman through this foundation
- 10:35and it was very special to get to talk to her at that event four
- 10:37years ago. Coach has dinner like two every year. Well, first of
- 10:41all, I'm so proud of this. Dinners lasted for these forty years.
- 10:45They bring over sixteen million until tonight it's very close to seventeen million. And
- 10:50the fact that it continues and we can remember Jarman and we do wonderful for
- 10:56HRC just means that we're all doing and rede growing a connecting me to your
- 11:00story through bad Boy. First of all, what was the in fact that
- 11:03mister Steinbrener has had on your lives? No, mister Steinwrin is responsible for
- 11:07everything good in our lives. He's just he was the man, and he
- 11:13loves his Yankees. He loves his former Yankees. He has passed that on
- 11:18to his children. And the Yankee Organization is number one and they bring you
- 11:22back every year, which has to be a they choked up all at that.
- 11:26I guess it's hard. It's been hard, but they don't ever forget.
- 11:31And I'm always part of the Yankee family, which means so much to
- 11:35me. And Ray's continued the legacy of Thurmery in Georgia and you guys have
- 11:39grown close to that as well. Well. Ray is a special, special
- 11:43young man in our lives. He was with Thurman through the good times and
- 11:48the bad times, and he means a lot to us. And as you
- 11:52see his dinner, bro, that's got a really your heart. He does.
- 11:56So they told me when only last for two or three years, and
- 11:58that's going wrong at forty And how can people get involved if they haven't yet,
- 12:03Well, the AhR Seat Foundation of New York City, if you just
- 12:07contact them, they will give you a lot of pointers on how to be
- 12:11involved in how to help the organization. And that's great your partner with them
- 12:15as well. Thank you so much. You're welcome. And then of course
- 12:20on the managerial side of things, I've gotten to know Bobby Valentine over the
- 12:24years. When I saw him at CITDPLD, he was like, oh,
- 12:26you're still rolling around here. Well, I got him and Susan Wollman at
- 12:31that same dinner. I take a listen, it's been in twenty years since
- 12:35Subway series. Yeah, I'm talking with Bobby Valentine. Bobby, I've seen
- 12:41all around the stadium. How you doing on? What's like? I'm always
- 12:43good. Thanks. I can't believe it's been twenty years, and I can't
- 12:48believe that Susan Wolman's still here doing what she does and looking like she's only
- 12:52twenty years old. She does she do that? Yeamn? What's it like?
- 12:58We're both going to be at this event tonight. Yeah, Susan,
- 13:01Well, this is something I think it's remarkable that Winterman has been gone over
- 13:05forty years and look at this turnoff and his legacy. Every time you have
- 13:09this dinner and people like Bobby Valentine come out and I'm like, oh,
- 13:13the Giant says it's a great rat event about Yeah, you know, I
- 13:18have to look it up, but I might have been honored at their twenty
- 13:22of you for years. Wow celebration here. And you know Thurdmane and I
- 13:28did a thing in nineteen sixty seven when I played with him in the Cape
- 13:31coble Wow. And he was a junior college I as a junior in high
- 13:35school, and he called this shock the first time I ever got in the
- 13:39box against them, and the next inning you hit a ball over the left
- 13:43center the offense for the facts, I believe him. And I wrote home
- 13:46to one of my buddies, Joe Japett, and you can look it up
- 13:50chi app ttaka, and he has the letter that I said to him from
- 13:54Cape Cod say these college kids are amazing. So we missed you years,
- 14:03all right, And then a couple of more pieces before we're wrapped up here
- 14:09on the Subway Series edition of the Alex Garrett Podcast Network. Uh, you
- 14:13might remember Jay Horowitz. You might know Jay Horowitz or know of him.
- 14:18He's mister Met, I believe. And he wrote that book, Mister Met.
- 14:22And he had a few minutes to join my podcast just a few years
- 14:26ago as the book was being released. Uh, and of course he's always
- 14:28been welcoming to my family and I at City Field. Jay, thanks for
- 14:33joining my show, and uh, let's replay what you had what we talked
- 14:37about, all right, Jay Horwich, as we're talking about he's written the
- 14:41book Mister Met, and uh, obviously there is a mister Meda City Field
- 14:45and Chase Stadium, and he's beloved as much as you know, as much
- 14:48as you are, Jay, So I guess that's where his his inspiration was
- 14:52was the naming of the book, obviously, right like his inspiration. Well,
- 14:56you know that was kind of a funny story how that happened, uh,
- 15:01that I had when I did this book. You know, I was
- 15:03dealing at the time with those the players, and he wanted to develop them.
- 15:09You are seeing who had a card team who had a good relationship with
- 15:13and that probably was right was Jacob to Gram. So Jacob and I had
- 15:16a pretty cool relationship. When I asked to do an interview, he would
- 15:22never say yes right away. He would say, Jay, I'll do the
- 15:26interview for you if you can come out in the field and the fun goes
- 15:30to Stephen Maxon myself. Or he would say we have a little basketball the
- 15:33card bass. He would say, I'll do an interview for you if you
- 15:37make two baskets. And I never again, not much of the last day,
- 15:41but Jacobs always take the interviews. So the author said, you think
- 15:43Jacob to Gard would help write it forward for the post that I asked to
- 15:48be very kind. He did, and the course of that interview, he
- 15:52said to the author, you know what, in my eyes, he's the
- 15:54real mister Rip. And we got the permission to use the time for the
- 15:58book, you know, and you know it's good at you know, don't
- 16:03remember, you know, Jacob came up here in two thousand and fourteen.
- 16:06He came up as a relief pitcher. He never pitched it anything the goalpan.
- 16:10He pitched seven shut he seven and against the Yankee Simon one run and
- 16:15the rest is history. Rookie the Year Award too, SI and it's none
- 16:18down in my mind, and he can wind the other side Year War two.
- 16:22But he was kind enough to sit out and I just followed from my
- 16:26book and he used to turn mister met and they kind of went from there.
- 16:30Well, let's talk about Jacob. You know everybody talks about right,
- 16:32and we're gonna get to him too, because that was a special connection too.
- 16:34But with Jacob, I mean, the guy is a winner. He
- 16:38wants to win. He pitches like he wants to win. And it's great
- 16:41that you have that friendship with him. Now, were you his pr person
- 16:44at the time when he first came up. Yeah, I came up,
- 16:47and I came up with two. He came up in many of twenty and
- 16:49fourteen, and you know we worked together for the Rookie of the Year award
- 16:53and his first s. You know, I was, I was was with
- 16:57it. And he had said he played so many games where he get to
- 17:03the rule and won one runs a loss never ever, ever, what's his
- 17:07composure he interviews, He kept his calls always about team, team, team,
- 17:11team. That's really cared about. That's what separates from me from the
- 17:15other people, other people who really cares about you know, we can win
- 17:21one thing that he's great. You know, he doesn't care, you know
- 17:25when how many runs the other team courses always rewin. I mean, he's
- 17:29really just cares about the team, and that's why he's successfuls who really focused
- 17:33on one thing, who comes to the park watch the win and wants to
- 17:37have the team wins. Jay, I think it's important that you have this
- 17:41conversation with you know, about the book and about the team, because quite
- 17:44often the headlines aren't kind to the Mets, and yet there is an organization
- 17:48that cares, that's always there, and that message should be brought out too.
- 17:52Yeah. We you know, I've been through one of these things about
- 17:55our organizations. We give back and the will punts of you know party Jeffer
- 18:00Calby at every hospital boy As charity board in the city, and there are
- 18:03two giving people like I'll get back to nine to eleven when we did feel
- 18:07for nine to eleven. It is just remarks what we did. And even
- 18:11in the color you know, virus crisis, you know, we're constantly giving
- 18:17full to hospitals and supplies and floor and sealcus with a Trip White team in
- 18:22Saint Lucy where we're singing a TV. So we're constantly giving back and uh,
- 18:27you know, I mean answer to make We called with the Wepton over
- 18:30the lation like that we understand this one that goes down the fields and we
- 18:34really should get back to the community of the beach streak way. Jay,
- 18:38I saw that first head at the Henry Viscardi School. You guys always came
- 18:41out and still do to the Henry Stard School with mister met and a few
- 18:45of the guys. And you remember in two thousand and seven with Joe Salonica
- 18:48arranging and Joe Lee and you as well in Iris and we had this huge
- 18:52with football game for three innings and Tom Glavin pitched to our kids it was
- 18:56the most surreal thing you'd ever seen. Yeah, I mean it's that's a
- 19:00great stout. I never forget when I used to go into premous with mister
- 19:03Kats and those kids are remarkable kids, and just be a part of seeing
- 19:07him. What you're doing is just really remarkable. And archives always got a
- 19:11picture Kademy and a part of that. And then of course, then of
- 19:15course that's I'm thinking about this. Oh my god, if you missed the
- 19:18last time I played this, we haven't gotten the full edition of it.
- 19:26But a man who was part of the Subway series World Series in two thousand
- 19:32and we got to see just about a month ago join me on the stage
- 19:36of the Viscardi Center one Bam, Tino Martinez. Well and my first line
- 19:52here and slim all of it is not in advanced approval and latinas approval and
- 20:00the city for about a mons serion, but I don't want to play.
- 20:03You're doing to love Jane Stadium. I love Ernie Born. I was like
- 20:08one started to the Fall run and Dragon runs, and more importantly that he
- 20:12started winning right and then stands this year, and I didn't ask him about
- 20:22what it was like to win those World Series ninety eight, nine and two
- 20:26thousand and you know, in ninety six and the man who was the pr
- 20:33guy behind all of this twenty five year run, Rick Sarone, did join
- 20:37me after Derek Jeeter's induction. We need talk a little bit about New York
- 20:41baseball and New York Inkee baseball. The great thing about Derek Alex was that
- 20:47he always did more than was expected, and that's what made him special.
- 20:52And that is so true. He went beyond them and above, didn't he
- 20:55Yeah, and you know that yourself. But like you know, I'll tell
- 21:00you a story real quick about a young lady because who was eight years old
- 21:03in two thousand and two, nine years old, and you know, the
- 21:08family wanted to bring her to spring training because her father was tragically killed on
- 21:14nine to eleven, and you know, of course we said yes, and
- 21:18she wanted to meet Derek Jeter. And you know, I told Derek and
- 21:22of course he says, yeah, no, probably knew what it was.
- 21:23You didn't have to remind him. So we brought her down. When she
- 21:29arrived at Legends Field and she's sitting in the first row of an empty ballpark,
- 21:34next to the dugout, and I think I'm going to be the good
- 21:37pr guy and kind of walk over to Derek, who's on the field on
- 21:41his back stretching with you know, with those rubber bands and everybody. Yeah,
- 21:45yeah, And I kind of walked so she can't see, and I
- 21:48say, you know, you know, not moving my lips, Derek,
- 21:51the little girl that you're going to meet is sitting over there, you know,
- 21:55with the blue Yankee jacket on and the Yankee at So whenever you're done,
- 22:00you know, that's who she is. So he can kind of acknowledge
- 22:03her without having to be well, I don't even get two feet away from
- 22:07him, and he yells out from behind me, Hey, Kate, get
- 22:10over here. You're late. We're stretching. Come on, let's go.
- 22:15She runs out on the field, They lift her over the stand. She
- 22:17runs out. She get down here and he gives her a rubber band and
- 22:21now, hey, this is Mariano, and this is Roger, this is
- 22:23Wre and it was it was an unbelievable experience. And then he sits with
- 22:30her and he talks to her and he says to her, you go to
- 22:32Yankee games. Oh yeah, go all the time and start kind of tearing
- 22:36up because she went with her dad, and he goes, well, listen,
- 22:37I don't want you to ever come to a Yankee game and not let
- 22:40me know you're there. So you tell mister Sharone here when you're coming,
- 22:44and he'll let me know, and I'll know you're there, and I'll try
- 22:47to see you if I can. And you know, that's what happened.
- 22:51And other people did what was expected. He always did more than was expected.
- 22:57How be making your job easy in a way as a pr manager for
- 23:00the the best franchise world, Well yeah, because other people, you know,
- 23:07there were others that were a little higher maintenance, so you could even
- 23:11out a little bit. But I'll tell you a funny thing, Alice.
- 23:14People ask me all the time when they know why you worked with the Yankees
- 23:18at that time, you know, tell me about Tark Cheter, and I
- 23:22would kid and I'd say, well, he really had no use for me.
- 23:26And they say, whoa, whoa, whoa. You didn't get along
- 23:27with him? I said, no, we got along great, we're friends.
- 23:30But he didn't need the services of what I did. You know,
- 23:36he never really needed my counsel. He never needed me to remind him.
- 23:40I mean that was kind of a funny thing because you know, a guy
- 23:44who's doing the Sunday Conversation, you know, and the visitors the football locker
- 23:48room and met the Metrodome in Minnesota at three o'clock. Well, you know,
- 23:55you put a reminder there. You call the guy at the hotel,
- 23:57leave him a message. He didn't need to do that with Derek, and
- 24:00he didn't want you to do that. I mean, he was he was
- 24:03so responsible. I mean he was. I mean, Alex, think about
- 24:10it. I'm the PR director of the Yankees and one of my players is
- 24:12Derek Jeter. Does it get better than that? Well? Do you miss
- 24:17it now? Do you wish you were back here now that he's back in
- 24:18the hall, or what's life been like for you after the age? Well?
- 24:22No, you know, yeah, you missed certain things about it.
- 24:27But you know, I'm the editor in chief of Baseball Digest. How great
- 24:32is that to me? You know? You know, I mean, so
- 24:34you know, I went from one dream job. You know, when I
- 24:38was a kid and I was in high school, I told my high school
- 24:42guidance counselor when He asked me, what do you see yourself doing when you
- 24:45were growing up? Because I was literally flunking out of school. And I
- 24:49said, well, that's easy. I'm the public relations director of the New
- 24:52York Yankees. I mean, that was my dream since I was like fourteen.
- 24:56But if he had said to me, okay, well let's just say,
- 25:00what's your fallback plan? What's the second thing you'd wanted me? I
- 25:04might have said to him, I'm the editor of Baseball diejest and so to
- 25:10have this collection, this collection of interviews, means a lot. And I
- 25:15am so thankful to all of those. How we mentioned Dave Demono, Sarah
- 25:19Khan for making that Howie Rose interview happened, Jay Horowitz for coming on the
- 25:25show, Rick Sarone, doctor Dan Miller w when he was on WVOX scoring
- 25:30me that press pass to talk with Brandon Miller, Brandon Neimo, and Wilmer
- 25:36Flores. Actually I got to find that as well. But and of course,
- 25:40Reine grown you actually help to educate George stein Brenner and g and you
- 25:48have no idea how do you? I don't. When he first met you,
- 25:56and he was a young boy, he saw you with one leg,
- 26:00and he said to him show and later to me, this poor boy,
- 26:07he has a handycap. Let's be good to him. He found out that
- 26:14you were stronger than most. You felt like, hey, I can be
- 26:21here, I can do here. I don't have to be ashamed that I
- 26:23only have one leg. And I cry right now because you may have given
- 26:30him his strongest education. All these pieces I've fall into place so far,
- 26:38and of course to Gaby for coming me in recent years to different events as
- 26:45well, and of course to meet Nestor on Sunday and all together here we're
- 26:51still growing this show. We're growing this podcast and what Howie Rose said earlier
- 26:56in the show is, you know we're on this path and I'm excited to
- 27:03be on it, and I'm excited to grow more in the sports media world.
- 27:07And of course thanks and our media and Jake and the Bronx Zoo for
- 27:12encouraging me every step of the way, and of course my family for always
- 27:17being there as well. Subway series has basically been in my blood since I
- 27:22was six months old, and so when Itever rolls around, it means a
- 27:26hell of a lot more. And we miss you, Pop, and I
- 27:30know you're looking down at us and thanks for taking me to all those games.
- 27:33And of course we remember walking the Shay Stadium leftfield line when Derek Jeter
- 27:37hit that leadoff homer against the Bets in two thousand. We also were there
- 27:44in two thousand and one when Piazza hit that late innings, eighth inning homer
- 27:49against the Braves the first game back after nine to eleven. So we've been
- 27:53there for some very special moments. And of course mister Steinberger welcoming us and
- 28:02the Steinmann Firman will always be welcoming into that stadium. Even today, it's
- 28:08been a blessing. Well, enjoy the Subway series. Don't get too rowdy.
- 28:12Who am I kidding? As New York reports are gonna get rowdy at
- 28:15Yankees at City Field, and we'll see how it goes. Lou Terminello and
- 28:19Terminella's take will come up later today on the Alex Garrett Podcast Network
