SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
0:06
SPEAKER_00: And we're back.
0:07
SPEAKER_00: I'm Truman.
0:08
SPEAKER_00: And I'm Jesse.
0:09
SPEAKER_00: And this is Becoming Saiyan's Dragon Ball Rewatch Podcast.
0:12
SPEAKER_00: On today's episode, we watched episodes 75 and 76 titled The Strong Ones and the True Colors of the Masked Man.
0:21
SPEAKER_00: The Strong Ones came out on in Japan on August 19th, 1987, and in America on November 22nd, 2002.
0:30
SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, Colors of the Masked Man came out August 26, 87, and November 25th, 2002.
0:37
SPEAKER_00: So this was they took a couple days in between on this one.
0:40
SPEAKER_00: Probably it might have been when might have probably fallen on that um that uh Thanksgiving.
0:45
SPEAKER_00: If I'm thinking like mid-end of November could have fallen on a Thanksgiving.
0:48
SPEAKER_00: I don't have I don't have my calendar from 2002, but it's possibility.
0:52
SPEAKER_01: If it's within the last like seven to ten days of November, yeah.
0:57
SPEAKER_01: It's in that Thanksgiving area.
0:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
0:59
SPEAKER_00: Um Goku and Grandpa Gohan's fight uh is expanded in the anime.
1:05
SPEAKER_00: We're on differences in from the manga.
1:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
1:07
SPEAKER_00: Uh the loons, which I guess is ducks.
1:10
SPEAKER_00: I thought they were ducks, maybe they were loons.
1:12
SPEAKER_00: I know those are different kinds of birds, but I haven't played Wingspan yet, so I don't know what the um but that they don't appear in the manga.
1:20
SPEAKER_00: Baba snapping at the fighters to stop procrastinating as in the manga, and Baba doesn't give a count for Goku in the manga.
1:27
SPEAKER_00: Uh and then trivia for the episode is in the manga and in the Japanese anime, Gohan praises Goku for being able to dodge the Kamehameha.
1:35
SPEAKER_00: In the English anime, he had thinks it aloud to himself.
1:38
SPEAKER_00: It was probably an error due to Gohan's mask not making it clear.
1:42
SPEAKER_00: Um after Goku blocked uh Gohan's kick, Gohan was amazed, and a drop of sweat can be shown on the mask despite being a mask and not his face.
1:51
SPEAKER_00: Which I that's kind of a funny way of footnote.
1:53
SPEAKER_00: It's like, yeah, there was a there was a sweat on the mask, like he was sweating.
1:56
SPEAKER_01: That stuff happens all the time, though.
1:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:58
SPEAKER_01: That's that's like funny joke.
2:01
SPEAKER_00: Um, jumping into differences from the manga in the second episode, uh, in the anime, Emperor Pilaf is shown testing out the his machine while she was on the monitor.
2:10
SPEAKER_00: And the manga, the machines are not seen until they're used on against Goku later on in the show.
2:15
SPEAKER_00: Uh Bulma, Yangsha, and Pu'ar tear up seeing Goku reunite with the grandfathers only in the anime, and they do not do that in the manga.
2:23
SPEAKER_00: Um and the manga glosses over Bulma telling Grandpa Goha um about Goku, the Dragon Balls, and their adventure, but in the anime there are several flashback scenes.
2:32
SPEAKER_00: Um for trivia, this is the second time uh that it's been that the tale has been cut off on Goku, and it is later it later grows back in another episode coming up.
2:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's it did the first time.
2:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
2:46
SPEAKER_00: Not counting when Goku was just a baby, this is the only time uh in the entire anime or manga where Goku, either as a kid or an adult, broke down in tears.
2:55
SPEAKER_00: The flashback to previous events in the Japanese version has the song Dragon Ball Donetsu playing without any dialogue from Bulma.
3:02
SPEAKER_00: It's the only time the song is used in the entire English dub, uh, whereas the previous moments were excluded, if not replaced, with characters talking over what was originally silence.
3:12
SPEAKER_00: During the flashback where Bulma is talking uh telling Gohan about their quest for the Dragon Balls, she says that Goku begged her to come and get the Dragon Balls.
3:20
SPEAKER_00: Uh, this is false.
3:21
SPEAKER_00: What really happened was Bulma asked Goku to come along and help her gather them for her own wish with the lie that he'd get the four-star ball back afterwards.
3:28
SPEAKER_00: I wasn't gonna point it out, it just seemed kind of in line with what she would do.
3:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
3:33
SPEAKER_00: Um that's all the trivia we have.
3:36
SPEAKER_00: So, previously, on Dragon Ball.
3:39
SPEAKER_00: The epic fight between the Masked Man and Goku rages on.
3:44
SPEAKER_00: And the masked man seems to just be testing and toying with him for the most part.
3:48
SPEAKER_00: He even pulls out a Kamehameha to see how he handles that.
3:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, but along the way, Roshi's thinking, man, this is really suspicious.
3:55
SPEAKER_00: Oh wait, it's Grandpa Gohan.
3:58
SPEAKER_00: How did that happen?
3:58
SPEAKER_00: He's back from the dead.
3:59
SPEAKER_00: Goku doesn't know, um, but everyone is thinking how cruel it is that Grandpa Gohan is smacking Goku around by the tail.
4:07
SPEAKER_00: And eventually the tail snaps off, and then Grandpa Gohan gives up and then reveals himself to Goku.
4:14
SPEAKER_00: We have a very nice, you know, um, emotional scene where they get to reunite and he gets to tell him tells Grandpa about everything that's been going on, and it's just a beautiful, beautiful scene, honestly.
4:26
SPEAKER_00: And uh that's we find out in the B plot that P-Loff and Mae and Shu are back, and they have the seventh Dragon Ball in a case that cannot be tracked, the r the radar cannot break through, and that's what you missed on Dragon Ball.
4:40
SPEAKER_00: Jesse, go for it.
4:42
SPEAKER_01: I really enjoyed watching this fight.
4:44
SPEAKER_01: It was really fun.
4:44
SPEAKER_01: Even though it was kind of fluffed, as we as you said, it's the expected fluff when you have a big plot fight where you're like, okay, well, you know, we don't want this to be over in uh one episode, we gotta we gotta stretch it out a little bit.
4:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
4:59
SPEAKER_00: You can't just have you can't have like a one episode fight for this grand finale of the of the saga.
5:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's all not of the saga, but of the tournament.
5:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of this small tournament arc.
5:09
SPEAKER_01: And also, it's the first real serious fight where like Goku is challenged, that's like not over immediately.
5:18
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
5:18
SPEAKER_01: Since the thing the Jackie Chung fight.
5:21
SPEAKER_00: That you mean.
5:22
SPEAKER_00: The Jackie Chung fight in the tournament saga.
5:25
SPEAKER_01: When we when we brought it up together.
5:26
SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, I don't know what you're talking about.
5:28
SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
5:28
SPEAKER_01: I wrote it down in my notes.
5:29
SPEAKER_00: Nope, nope, nope.
5:30
SPEAKER_00: Jackie Chung fight.
5:32
SPEAKER_00: He said Rosie fight.
5:32
SPEAKER_00: Jackie Chung fight.
5:33
SPEAKER_01: He said Rossi fight.
5:34
SPEAKER_00: The Jackie Chung fight.
5:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the Jackie Chung fight in the tournament.
5:38
SPEAKER_01: And like, you're not just gonna finish because that fight took about what a the same amount of time.
5:46
SPEAKER_00: About a full about a full episode with a little bit extra.
5:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a little bit extra in the next episode, I think.
5:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
5:51
SPEAKER_01: Like him blowing up the moon.
5:53
SPEAKER_01: Was the end of one of the episodes?
5:54
SPEAKER_01: Like the cliffhanger, I think.
5:55
SPEAKER_00: Because we thought he killed Goku, and then it was like, no, he blew up the moon.
5:58
SPEAKER_00: If we remember right.
5:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
5:59
SPEAKER_01: To be fair to us, that was that was months ago.
6:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
6:03
SPEAKER_01: That was months ago and many episodes ago.
6:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
6:05
SPEAKER_00: A lot of stuff has happened since then we've slept since then.
6:09
SPEAKER_00: Um But yeah, I love these episodes.
6:12
SPEAKER_00: I in case you couldn't tell by my you know, by my recap, uh you probably can figure out what my favorite part, my best part was in the these episodes.
6:20
SPEAKER_00: The reunion.
6:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the reunion is just it's perfect.
6:23
SPEAKER_01: And I'll you know what?
6:24
SPEAKER_01: Just gonna get that out of the way.
6:25
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give that to you.
6:26
SPEAKER_01: But we'll figure out what I pick later.
6:28
SPEAKER_01: Um, but like, these episodes are awesome, and I love them.
6:32
SPEAKER_01: And I love also seeing like Goku be challenged again.
6:35
SPEAKER_01: Because it's been a while since we've been like how to be like, oh, like I even when I was making my predictions of the You thought like Goku was just gonna win.
6:42
SPEAKER_01: Like I was I was like, well, Goku, Goku's gonna win.
6:45
SPEAKER_01: I I kinda knew like.
6:47
SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't even say Goku won the fight.
6:49
SPEAKER_00: He uh Gohan lost the fight.
6:51
SPEAKER_01: I know I knew Goku was gonna win and figure out where the drag ball was.
6:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was obviously where the plot was going.
6:56
SPEAKER_01: That's the only reason why I predicted Goku to win.
6:58
SPEAKER_01: But I all but I did know going in, I was like, this is he's gonna be challenged, because you said he gets his grandpa.
7:04
SPEAKER_01: I didn't think his grandpa would like be testing him more than fighting him, like he actually ended up kinda doing.
7:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was one thing that I had forgotten was part of it, was uh Gohan uh it felt like you know, like Gohan knew that Goku was eventually going to need the fortune teller at some point, and he like, you know, because we find out in the sec in the end of the sec the end of the second episode that fortune teller Baba like w can go back and forth between the two worlds, which we'll get to.
7:32
SPEAKER_00: But my point about that is that Gohan came to her and was like, Hey, is this gonna happen?
7:37
SPEAKER_00: Like, do you think that you're gonna run into this guy boy with the tail?
7:40
SPEAKER_01: Well, it's it seems like he phrased it more in the way of like he knew she could see into the future, so she so sh I think she like it's implied that she knows who all of her clientele are gonna be that come to her.
7:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
7:52
SPEAKER_01: And so he basically just asked her, like, hey, is this is he ever gonna be a client?
7:56
SPEAKER_00: And she's like, Yeah.
7:57
SPEAKER_00: And he's like, When when he is, can you can you break me out for a day?
8:00
SPEAKER_01: Can you pop me out for a day?
8:02
SPEAKER_00: I wanna I wanna see him.
8:03
SPEAKER_00: I want to be I wanna be a part of the club.
8:04
SPEAKER_00: I wanna f I want to fight him.
8:05
SPEAKER_00: And she's like, okay.
8:06
SPEAKER_00: And without he didn't tell her that, like, I want to see how good my grandson's gotten, you know.
8:11
SPEAKER_01: Which apparently she he didn't need to because she was just like, fine, that's fine by me.
8:14
SPEAKER_01: You're a good fighter.
8:15
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're a good fighter.
8:16
SPEAKER_01: She's not gonna beat you certainly.
8:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
8:18
SPEAKER_00: How can you beat somebody who's dead, you know?
8:20
SPEAKER_00: This is the ultimate ace card.
8:23
SPEAKER_01: Um which is funny that she uses that ace card twice because technically the mummy is also dead.
8:28
SPEAKER_00: And Goku beat both of them.
8:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, go go technically beat both of them.
8:32
SPEAKER_00: Technicality.
8:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
8:33
SPEAKER_00: Uh one surrender.
8:35
SPEAKER_00: Getting back on the track with the episode, one thing that I saw a lot was they replayed three times, so many times in these episodes.
8:42
SPEAKER_00: It was like it almost like lost the appeal of like writing it down because it happened so many times.
8:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so many times.
8:49
SPEAKER_01: But it's also, I think, they they were doing that because they only do that when it's like a big hit.
8:54
SPEAKER_01: And it was kind of showing like, oh, no one's really.
8:57
SPEAKER_00: They're going blow for blow here.
8:58
SPEAKER_01: Pulling punches here.
8:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's no one's no one's weakening out, I guess, or chickening out on the punch or the hit or the kick.
9:06
SPEAKER_01: Or when he, you know, jumps so high into the air that it plays three.
9:10
SPEAKER_01: Like I guess it's like Gohan jumps so high in the air and plays three times.
9:14
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
9:14
SPEAKER_01: Like it's fun talk, it's fun being able to talk about the like just a singular fight and then the fluff at the end.
9:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
9:20
SPEAKER_00: Because these yeah, these fights were great.
9:22
SPEAKER_00: There were a lot of acrobatic s uh moments from Gohan, which is kind of crazy because he's old and dead, but he had some crazy acrobatics.
9:29
SPEAKER_01: He's got the Roshi going on where he's just super heavy.
9:32
SPEAKER_01: He's old, but he's athletic as I'll get out.
9:34
SPEAKER_01: Um it's like the thing that Splinter pulls out every now and then.
9:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
9:40
SPEAKER_00: And then uh just the fact that they were going blow for blow, you know?
9:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wrote I wrote like it's a very e like at the beginning of the episode, it's like very even fight.
9:49
SPEAKER_01: And then Gohan got a couple good licks.
9:51
SPEAKER_01: And go Goku Down a pig once.
9:54
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh never mind.
9:55
SPEAKER_01: And like never mind again, because Goku's coming back at it.
9:57
SPEAKER_01: And it's just like they just kept giving it to each other.
10:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
10:01
SPEAKER_00: They just had like it had such good choreography.
10:04
SPEAKER_00: Like that's the part.
10:05
SPEAKER_00: Like I knew what I knew it was coming, like I knew the emotional part is the part that I really l enjoyed.
10:10
SPEAKER_00: And I knew it was coming.
10:11
SPEAKER_00: I was waiting for it.
10:12
SPEAKER_00: But honestly, like it it I thought I was going to think these episodes were more negative because like I was waiting for the the you know the emotional part.
10:20
SPEAKER_00: But these like the fight was just so enthralling.
10:23
SPEAKER_00: It was like I can't like I I don't I can't wait for the emotional scene, but I also am enjoying the crap out of watching this fight because it is like just insanely good.
10:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean it there's not much else to say besides just the animation, the choreography of the fighting.
10:39
SPEAKER_00: The way that the way that they they staged it and shot it was just great.
10:43
SPEAKER_01: Shot it and there goes the well I mean in animation they do.
10:47
SPEAKER_00: You have a camera.
10:48
SPEAKER_00: Like it it like even though you don't have a camera.
10:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
10:52
SPEAKER_00: But like, the shots, the way they set up the shots for their camera, quote unquote, is amazing.
10:57
SPEAKER_01: The way they storyboarded the animation, yeah.
10:59
SPEAKER_01: And then we're able to execute it so perfectly.
11:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
11:03
SPEAKER_01: I would love to send compliments to animators.
11:05
SPEAKER_01: As negative as it's gonna sound, probably a decent amount of them are really either really old or in a grave somewhere, sadly.
11:14
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
11:14
SPEAKER_01: Because that's just how old this animation is.
11:17
SPEAKER_01: But it was a great and then to the ones that are alive, and you may ever be able to see this.
11:21
SPEAKER_01: Like you guys are knocked it out of the park.
11:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can't I can't say enough about how good the choreography and the animation and the the way that the Phi ebdum flowed.
11:31
SPEAKER_01: And I think I think a lot of it is like a lot of this choreography is set up by Akira Toriyama.
11:35
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because it does feel like there's a lot that they took from his like from the manga.
11:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's you know a big part of animating a show like this that is like based off of also like a a manga or you know, in a if you're animating a comic book movie like for Spider-Man or whatever, is taking the actions from the page and doing it justice in the animation form.
11:58
SPEAKER_01: And they have it seemingly to me, very few points where I can complain about the like animation so far at all in this show.
12:06
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
12:06
SPEAKER_01: I I can I can barely even remember one or two.
12:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
12:11
SPEAKER_01: That's kind of choppy, that was rough.
12:12
SPEAKER_00: And in those movies, the movies there were some bad parts, especially in that first one.
12:17
SPEAKER_00: But in the the second one, we had some good parts.
12:19
SPEAKER_00: It was mostly pretty good.
12:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
12:20
SPEAKER_01: But and when you can look back, it's like I can barely remember anything.
12:24
SPEAKER_01: Like that means they're doing a really good job.
12:27
SPEAKER_01: And especially for how bold the animation is.
12:28
SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is a good thing.
12:29
SPEAKER_00: You can tell there's a lot of there was a lot of heart and dedication put into it.
12:33
SPEAKER_01: You can tell whoever everyone who was doing this wanted it to be as good as possible.
12:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
12:37
SPEAKER_01: But also I think that might come because we're in I don't know exactly the process to how this got turned into an anime.
12:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
12:45
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure we're saying this without the advanced knowledge.
12:48
SPEAKER_01: Um we're saying this all without like going into full research yet on what happened with this.
12:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
12:53
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure Toriyama was in the room a lot of the time, being like, okay, I want it to look like this.
12:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
12:57
SPEAKER_00: I want to look like that.
12:58
SPEAKER_00: And he probably he definitely had like some some sway over the added stuff, the elongated stuff, the stretched out pieces, like how he would want it to look to make it ebb and flow the way that he wanted it to ebb and flow.
13:13
SPEAKER_01: Because there is limitations to how much space you can waste on a page versus how much space you can waste in an animation.
13:21
SPEAKER_01: That's why you get a lot of, well, this is anime exclusive.
13:24
SPEAKER_01: Well, it's because it's like he probably wanted to put the stuff like that.
13:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he wanted to.
13:28
SPEAKER_01: But you only have so much space in the unlimited amount of pages you have to publish every week or month or long, however fast he was publishing back then.
13:36
SPEAKER_00: He only had maybe like two, like two uh panels that he could put the P-Loff stuff in.
13:42
SPEAKER_00: He didn't have time to show the cool robots and everything.
13:44
SPEAKER_00: Just a flashover to Pilaf.
13:46
SPEAKER_00: Being like, this is where the Dragon Ball is so that the so the audience knows while the the gang doesn't yet.
13:52
SPEAKER_00: Just like that B plot type of thing.
13:54
SPEAKER_01: Or we don't know when it was inserted either.
13:56
SPEAKER_01: It could have been inserted after they found out about it.
13:59
SPEAKER_01: This is where this is actually who it is.
14:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:01
SPEAKER_01: You never know.
14:02
SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, sadly we haven't read the manga.
14:05
SPEAKER_01: This is not a podcast of us reading the manga is a podcast watching the anime.
14:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
14:09
SPEAKER_01: Though I would I you know.
14:11
SPEAKER_00: If I could get it on if I could get it on the cheap, I would do it.
14:13
SPEAKER_00: Like it's just the problem is is like because there's a big anniversary for Dragon Ball this year and all that stuff, the it's hard to get a hold of the whole set.
14:23
SPEAKER_00: Especially the set of the OG one from like 40, almost 50 years ago now.
14:28
SPEAKER_00: Like, it's very hard to get a bunch of like to get the whole set.
14:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
14:32
SPEAKER_00: And so that's part of the reason.
14:34
SPEAKER_00: Part other part is I read comics and swapping from comics to manga is hard because everything's backwards and it makes it it makes it hard.
14:42
SPEAKER_00: I know that's like first world white people problems.
14:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it does make it difficult when you when you go from reading comics, because comics and manga are very reading like any book.
14:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
14:51
SPEAKER_01: Any book to like Japanese books.
14:54
SPEAKER_00: The the way it works is like with comics, you can follow the panels, the way they're supposed to be, they're laid out, but everything's completely inverted.
15:01
SPEAKER_00: Like the panel, the panels are inverted and stuff, so that makes it very difficult for to read.
15:05
SPEAKER_00: And I know that's white people problems, but like reading left to right, you're reading right to left.
15:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
15:10
SPEAKER_00: It's just hard to keep up with.
15:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
15:12
SPEAKER_00: But I, you know, I love the mid-credit break where it's like to go on just wipe his son off the or grandson off the face of the earth with a camal.
15:23
SPEAKER_00: No.
15:24
SPEAKER_00: They replayed it three times, the music swells, and it's like I told Jesse before it happened, I was like, here's the commercial break, and then like immediately cut the commercial.
15:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, but uh, I love that like Goku's able to use the after image and it catches Gohan off guard.
15:38
SPEAKER_00: He's like, wow, you mastered that.
15:40
SPEAKER_00: He's got a good handle on this.
15:42
SPEAKER_00: And that's when you kind of find out that Gohan is like testing him.
15:44
SPEAKER_00: He's like, he's trying to see how strong he is.
15:46
SPEAKER_00: He's not really trying to win this fight.
15:48
SPEAKER_01: Which I I should also say, like, we knew it was Gohan going in.
15:52
SPEAKER_01: I think anyone who was who is is paying attention to the context clues throughout the last episodes, the last episodes we watched in the podcast and all of these episodes knew it was Gohan probably before even the end of 75.
16:06
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
16:07
SPEAKER_01: Probably honestly knew it was Gohan from the moment like we stopped at 74.
16:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
16:11
SPEAKER_01: You're like, okay, this is probably Gohan.
16:13
SPEAKER_00: And if it took you a little bit, like You figured it out before the reveal.
16:17
SPEAKER_00: I would say probably about the time the Kamehameha happens.
16:19
SPEAKER_00: Like that's where you're like, this has to be somebody.
16:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because the only person that like we know Roshi trained is the ox king.
16:26
SPEAKER_01: It's obviously not him.
16:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's obviously not the ox king.
16:28
SPEAKER_01: And there's like Chichi would be Chi Chi would be on Goku's side right now.
16:32
SPEAKER_01: Cheering him on.
16:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's one of those things where it's like, yeah, Roshi the whole time being like, he's really reminding me of someone.
16:40
SPEAKER_00: And then we see the Kamehameha on.
16:42
SPEAKER_00: It's like, well, we only know of like three people in the universe that know it.
16:46
SPEAKER_01: Theoretically, three people.
16:47
SPEAKER_01: Possibly.
16:47
SPEAKER_01: We've actually never seen pull it out.
16:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, possibly four.
16:50
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's you know, that it definitely comes off as like, yeah, we at this point, if you didn't know, you know.
16:57
SPEAKER_00: Like Gohan or Goku doesn't know it yet because he's in the middle of a fight, so he can't really think.
17:01
SPEAKER_01: Goku's using all of his processing power on winning the fight.
17:05
SPEAKER_01: He's not using the processing power on thinking, which he doesn't use processing power a lot on anyway.
17:11
SPEAKER_01: No offense to the guy.
17:13
SPEAKER_01: He's kind of just in you know relaxation mode until it's like, oh, I gotta lock in.
17:18
SPEAKER_00: He's kind of a dumb guy.
17:19
SPEAKER_00: I I don't mean to say that in a bad way.
17:21
SPEAKER_00: He's wise, but he's dumb, if that makes sense.
17:24
SPEAKER_00: Like he's wise for his age.
17:26
SPEAKER_01: He's emotionally intelligent.
17:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:28
SPEAKER_01: But actually the easiest scam target imaginable, as long as he doesn't figure out you're scamming him.
17:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
17:35
SPEAKER_00: And then um we th I thought Goku had won.
17:39
SPEAKER_00: Did you think he had won at that point when he had him on the ground?
17:42
SPEAKER_00: Because I think at one while we were watching it, you're like, and this is where Gohan reveals who he is.
17:46
SPEAKER_00: But then he pulls the tail grab move.
17:49
SPEAKER_00: And we had a couple of moments where we thought we were about to get like Goku was about to get Loki slammed from the Avengers.
17:56
SPEAKER_00: And then it finally happened, and Jesse and I were cracking up the whole time.
18:00
SPEAKER_00: I wrote a puny alien.
18:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
18:04
SPEAKER_01: I think we cracked a joke's like, this is for stepping on me as an ape.
18:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
18:09
SPEAKER_00: I'm getting my lick back.
18:10
SPEAKER_00: Nobody disrespects me like this.
18:13
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna smack you here.
18:14
SPEAKER_00: It's like in there.
18:15
SPEAKER_00: Well in there.
18:16
SPEAKER_01: Was he what was like the initial like intent to was the main intent, I guess I should say, to teach him like you gotta control your weakness of your tail.
18:26
SPEAKER_01: But there is probably a little bit in the back of the head, I'm like, this m this dude stepped on me as a giant monkey.
18:31
SPEAKER_01: I I kinda wanna get a little lick back.
18:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
18:35
SPEAKER_01: But that child abuse lasted for a really long time.
18:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it la that that because it started at the end of the last episode and went through at least half of the second episode.
18:46
SPEAKER_01: It's like, is it a justifiable like length of time at the end?
18:52
SPEAKER_01: Kind yeah.
18:53
SPEAKER_01: You know, because it was like him doing that for so long is why the tail ends up ripping off.
18:58
SPEAKER_00: Because it did feel like it was kind of like stretching for time.
19:01
SPEAKER_00: But it really did take on.
19:03
SPEAKER_00: It paid off because it did break the tail, and that's like then Gohan's like, yeah, I give up.
19:09
SPEAKER_00: Like that was my only chance, was to just keep beating you to a pulp with the tail.
19:13
SPEAKER_00: I wasn't ever going to win this fight.
19:15
SPEAKER_00: I was gonna give up eventually, anyways, but now the tail's broken, that's an easy punched.
19:19
SPEAKER_00: Easy out.
19:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:20
SPEAKER_00: I don't want to.
19:20
SPEAKER_01: I want to go back to the other world.
19:23
SPEAKER_00: With my brunettes.
19:24
SPEAKER_01: With my brunettes and not have a black eye.
19:28
SPEAKER_00: Um somehow, Gohan returned.
19:31
SPEAKER_00: Was my first thing from the.
19:33
SPEAKER_01: I just wrote Palpatine.
19:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it it's such a Palpatine returns, like like the scene from the because they don't at that point they hadn't explained it.
19:42
SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure Roshi even says, I don't know how, but Gohan return.
19:46
SPEAKER_01: And it's like Gohaners returned.
19:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:48
SPEAKER_01: No, um, it's like he literally says it's like somehow Gohan's return.
19:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:52
SPEAKER_00: And it literally comes off like the the um Rise of Skywalker somehow.
19:56
SPEAKER_01: Which just points out like how much that line has just melted everyone's brains in situations like this.
20:03
SPEAKER_01: Because like viewing it, it's you know, you you start to see more pop culture, and I've I've started to try to watch a few more like pop culture things.
20:11
SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh, you haven't watched this, this, this, yeah.
20:14
SPEAKER_01: So like this is part of it, watching Dragon Ball, because it's such an iconic part of like people ref people, you know, not even making the same genre reference Dragon Ball all the time.
20:24
SPEAKER_01: So like I'm I have a feeling that that this line might be part of like maybe giving too much credit to the people who wrote that Star Wars movie might be part of where they got that line from.
20:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
20:37
SPEAKER_00: I doubt it.
20:38
SPEAKER_00: I I just think that they didn't uh uh I have my problems with the Rise of Skywalker.
20:44
SPEAKER_00: That's a whole other podcast.
20:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that'll be that's a podcast that like if we if we set up a Patreon at some point we might make a podcast.
20:51
SPEAKER_00: The ramblings of Rise of Sky.
20:52
SPEAKER_00: We'll rewatch it for you guys and tell you our opinion.
20:55
SPEAKER_01: We'll rewatch the the sequel trilogy and tell we'll we'll record a podcast about uh that'll be our bo that'll be our first bonus podcast.
21:03
SPEAKER_01: Is we'll watch each uh Star Wars movie in release order.
21:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
21:08
SPEAKER_00: And tell you our opinions.
21:10
SPEAKER_00: It's been a while since I've seen them all, so.
21:12
SPEAKER_01: I probably more recently watched them because my partner had never watched all of them.
21:16
SPEAKER_01: So I watched them through with him maybe a year and a half, two years ago.
21:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for me it's probably been about four or five years now.
21:23
SPEAKER_01: Which it just gave me a uh a new appreciation.
21:26
SPEAKER_01: No, it's not the podcast, but gave me a new appreciation for like how good the first sticks are.
21:31
SPEAKER_00: First three, uh two of the or one and a half of the second three, and about one and a quarter of the third three are good.
21:40
SPEAKER_00: And that's like, you know, cutting them up.
21:42
SPEAKER_01: Like it it actually.
21:43
SPEAKER_00: I don't even say like two and a half of the first three.
21:45
SPEAKER_00: There's a half of that s of the the last one of the first three.
21:48
SPEAKER_00: Anyways, we're way off topic here.
21:49
SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh we just put it this way.
21:51
SPEAKER_01: It and and it would come across on that on that podcast if we ever get a chance to make it, really made me depressed about like how bad it.
22:00
SPEAKER_01: Eight and nine were.
22:01
SPEAKER_01: Because I watched them like, man, this is actually like a really good movie.
22:04
SPEAKER_01: It just sucks that they just absolutely bomb the next two.
22:09
SPEAKER_01: But that's we're not talking about Star Wars, talking about Goku.
22:12
SPEAKER_00: I have my opinions about them.
22:13
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, getting back into this, the next thing I wrote down for the second episode was Pilaf from the Ganger Bag.
22:19
SPEAKER_00: That caught you off guard.
22:20
SPEAKER_00: I heard Jesse went like, what?
22:21
SPEAKER_00: Like, oh okay.
22:22
SPEAKER_00: Somehow Pilaf is returns.
22:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just like get somebody, we get them like checking out, like they get to turn on their TV and watch Goku.
22:29
SPEAKER_00: They find out about his weakness.
22:31
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
22:31
SPEAKER_01: Because I saw it go out to the satellite.
22:32
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, who's this gonna be?
22:34
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
22:34
SPEAKER_01: And then I saw uh I just blanked on her name.
22:37
SPEAKER_01: I saw her pop in.
22:38
SPEAKER_01: May May, yeah.
22:38
SPEAKER_01: I saw May pop in the screen as it like started to cold down.
22:42
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, they're back?
22:43
SPEAKER_01: Really?
22:43
SPEAKER_01: We got them again?
22:45
SPEAKER_00: And those robots do actually seem like they could be.
22:47
SPEAKER_00: They do seem kind of potential.
22:49
SPEAKER_00: If Pilaf and the gang can use them correctly, those three robots could turn could be something.
22:54
SPEAKER_01: The key is if they can correctly use them.
22:57
SPEAKER_01: Also, fun fun thing is like they're kind of launched into attack mode with the understanding that we can grab his tails.
23:04
SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be fun to see.
23:04
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because that was one of the fun things was that like Pilaf was like, well, now we know how to beat him.
23:10
SPEAKER_00: Like this I'm not worried at all now.
23:12
SPEAKER_00: Well, no, no, no.
23:13
SPEAKER_00: We don't know where he's at, or he doesn't know where we're at.
23:16
SPEAKER_00: We know where he's at, and he we know his weakness.
23:19
SPEAKER_00: So we have the element of surprise and his weakness, and both of those are gone by the end of this episode.
23:24
SPEAKER_00: But I still don't understand how the capsulization process works, like how you capsulize something back, because it like it feels like there's there's a button, but at the same time, it I don't like uh you don't see a button.
23:36
SPEAKER_00: They just kind of like touch the thing and it just like goes into the capsule.
23:38
SPEAKER_01: And it could just be them like saving budget or not animating buttons all the time.
23:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
23:44
SPEAKER_01: Or like or like if there's if there's you know, in a situation where it's something like that where you don't want it to just decapitalized out of nowhere, or be easily decapitalized because you're inside of it like a transformer.
23:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
23:55
SPEAKER_01: Um, maybe there's like a certain like quick like code or sequence you have to like touch with your fingers or something.
24:02
SPEAKER_01: So like it's less likely that someone just randomly touches that while you're in and then you just die.
24:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've been I've just I've been wondering about it because I've been rewatching it.
24:10
SPEAKER_01: The science of this world doesn't have to make sense.
24:14
SPEAKER_00: You can suspend it a time.
24:16
SPEAKER_00: I suspend my disbelief on it.
24:17
SPEAKER_00: It's not like it's not a this is me critiquing it, it's just me bringing it up.
24:21
SPEAKER_00: Because like we see like May like walk up and touch her robot and it just like caps, and it's like, what?
24:26
SPEAKER_00: Like, so anybody could do that, you know, like I don't understand what's going on.
24:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like what is this?
24:30
SPEAKER_00: You know, that was it, I don't it doesn't make sense to me yet, and I don't think it ever does, because you know, I've been rewatching.
24:37
SPEAKER_00: I've told you I've been re-watching some super here lately.
24:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
24:40
SPEAKER_01: I mean we have seen them press buttons in the past, yeah.
24:43
SPEAKER_01: But those are on things where it's like more stationary, like the house.
24:49
SPEAKER_01: Which I mean, I guess if someone wanted to steal your house and kill you, they could probably Or maybe there's maybe there's a sensor in those types of objects that have the buttons.
24:56
SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, someone's inside, you can't do that, right?
24:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
24:59
SPEAKER_01: It's like you can't fast travel while enemies are around.
25:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
25:02
SPEAKER_01: It's like but I I I don't know.
25:04
SPEAKER_00: And then the last part that we get with uh the Pilaf group is them driving off and then uh Pilaf being like, Hey, did you pack all those yummy sandwiches?
25:12
SPEAKER_00: And Shu being like, Oh, those were for you.
25:14
SPEAKER_00: And he's like, You had it! Yeah, it's like a classic shoe, classic shoe.
25:19
SPEAKER_01: Now they're back.
25:20
SPEAKER_01: They're we have fun with them for probably what next four episodes maybe.
25:25
SPEAKER_00: Probably, probably four or five.
25:26
SPEAKER_01: Well, we'll probably till the end of the saga, because we have what, like five?
25:29
SPEAKER_01: Well, we have five episodes.
25:30
SPEAKER_00: We have like seven episodes.
25:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, seven episodes, yeah.
25:33
SPEAKER_01: Because we were talking we were talking we're recording two episodes before they're alert to people wanting to know our time frame.
25:40
SPEAKER_01: Uh so when we're done watching everything and recording tonight, we'll have five episodes left in the saga.
25:46
SPEAKER_01: Yep.
25:47
SPEAKER_01: Which is your warning that we have a extended episode coming up at the end of the saga, because we're gonna have three episodes in one.
25:53
SPEAKER_00: We are already prepping for that being a thing.
25:55
SPEAKER_00: The next time we sit down for a double episode, if we do another double episode, it's gonna be a five uh five episodes for us.
26:02
SPEAKER_00: Because we're gonna instead of doing a two and two, we're doing a two and three.
26:05
SPEAKER_00: Yep.
26:06
SPEAKER_00: But that's not there yet, because I we have some stuff that we can gloat about, and that gloating is gonna be about Roshi, because Roshi, I can I can tell you a bunch about the way he's handling the situation.
26:17
SPEAKER_00: He finds out that Gohan is Gohan.
26:20
SPEAKER_00: And I mean it took him a while.
26:21
SPEAKER_00: It felt like he should have known it earlier in the episode when he figured it out, because like he put it together, but he hadn't like fully verbalized it until like way later, when like Bulma's like, Roshi, you know something's going on.
26:32
SPEAKER_01: He put it he put it together so fast, I was just like, dude, you know who it is.
26:36
SPEAKER_01: Like you're not sure.
26:37
SPEAKER_00: He said it could only be one person.
26:38
SPEAKER_00: And he's like, but there's no way.
26:41
SPEAKER_00: I guess like to in his like defense, like as much he doesn't know if he's never seen someone come from dead to alive.
26:48
SPEAKER_00: So he's like, it he to in his opinion, he's like, there's only one person it could be, but that person's dead.
26:53
SPEAKER_00: What the heck?
26:53
SPEAKER_01: Physically impossible.
26:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
26:55
SPEAKER_00: Um but then we get like the the sensei grind from him where he talks about, you know, like there's no way Gohan came back to beat the crap out of Goku and have him lose.
27:05
SPEAKER_00: We have to trust that Gohan knows what he's doing, even though it's very painful to watch him s throw his grandson around and smack him on the ground.
27:14
SPEAKER_01: Because for a lot of the last, like, the a lot of the last the end of the first episode.
27:18
SPEAKER_01: And then into like most of the second episode.
27:21
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, about the first half of the second episode episode, like everyone's like, man, we gotta help Goku.
27:26
SPEAKER_01: We come on, we gotta do something.
27:27
SPEAKER_01: Goshi, we have to do something.
27:28
SPEAKER_01: And Roshi's like, we no one is leaving this spot, and go on is done beating the crap out of his grandson.
27:36
SPEAKER_00: He's like, I know this man.
27:38
SPEAKER_00: He would never do this purposely to hurt his grandson.
27:41
SPEAKER_00: He's only beat he's only doing this to teach him a lesson.
27:43
SPEAKER_00: We gotta let we gotta let the apparent teach its course.
27:46
SPEAKER_00: We have to be hands off in this moment.
27:48
SPEAKER_00: We have to sit here and watch Goku get the crap beat out of him.
27:51
SPEAKER_01: This is not our lesson to interrupt.
27:53
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
27:54
SPEAKER_01: We're not gonna be a principal walking in for your evaluation right in the middle of a video essay or something.
28:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
28:00
SPEAKER_00: And then after that, like eventually Gohan, it seems like he had more time.
28:04
SPEAKER_00: He was gonna do it for a little bit longer, but then the tail snaps off.
28:07
SPEAKER_01: Then surprisingly, uh, tails can break.
28:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he just snapped it clean off and then um immediately surrenders.
28:16
SPEAKER_01: He's like, I'm I'm done.
28:17
SPEAKER_01: I don't get nothing else.
28:18
SPEAKER_00: And Goku's like, what?
28:19
SPEAKER_00: Like, I win, and then he takes the mask off and shows that it's Gohan.
28:24
SPEAKER_01: Grandpa, and we have that amazing, like, emotional reason.
28:27
SPEAKER_00: It's such a sweet part of the episode.
28:29
SPEAKER_00: It and this is where like I gotta come in and just be like, it's it's nice to get this payoff for this, because the whole time we have not seen Gohan.
28:38
SPEAKER_00: Like, and I know we had him for these last couple episodes, but we knew we had him.
28:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but like seeing Goku be able to be reunited with his grandpa after uh after all these years or after about probably a couple of years at this point.
28:52
SPEAKER_01: Uh I think f from where I'm led to believe at least because he says it's a short time.
28:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's been at least a year, in my opinion.
28:59
SPEAKER_00: Because we had six months of training after the during the tournament saga.
29:04
SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm trying to put a thing here.
29:07
SPEAKER_01: Because so I assume he might have died a f maybe a m uh at most three months before Bulma found Goku.
29:17
SPEAKER_01: Probably probably less time than that.
29:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
29:20
SPEAKER_01: Um then we have And then Bulma finds Goku, and then we take a a couple, probably a couple months.
29:27
SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say a couple weeks to a month for the first time though Dragon Ball versus.
29:32
SPEAKER_00: And then there's a year after that.
29:34
SPEAKER_00: Um plus some probably about a month of finding them the second time.
29:38
SPEAKER_00: Month or two doing all this other ribbon and battling all those people.
29:42
SPEAKER_00: So I mean it's been about a year and a half to two years is where we kind of land on it.
29:46
SPEAKER_01: I would say I'd say maybe a year and eight months is a good thing.
29:50
SPEAKER_00: A year I would say year year and a half as the minimum, two years as the maximum.
29:54
SPEAKER_01: Maybe we suck at math.
29:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
29:55
SPEAKER_00: But like that's my thought.
29:56
SPEAKER_00: It's like it's either like it's a year and a half to two years.
29:59
SPEAKER_01: To be fair, for everything that Goku has like employed in this fight, is insane that he knows all of it so well.
30:06
SPEAKER_00: Within the first like two years of changing on his own.
30:09
SPEAKER_01: It kind of implies that like, yeah, Goku, you know, as we know, Goku is an anomaly.
30:15
SPEAKER_01: And this man just has an affinity for just picking up fighting styles.
30:19
SPEAKER_01: Like it's nothing.
30:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
30:20
SPEAKER_00: Um, but the moment for me is just it's sweet because like you how often do you get those reunions and shows, right?
30:29
SPEAKER_00: Like uh like I've watched a lot of TV, and there's not very many episodes of TV where the per the character is motivated and uh like taught the sense of right and wrong and duty and everything from a a master who's no longer with him and he gets a chance to like go back in time or find some way to talk to him.
30:48
SPEAKER_00: And that doesn't happen very often.
30:50
SPEAKER_00: And maybe it's just me being like an emotional guy because like you know, we have that kind of we had that kind of relationship with our grandpa.
30:57
SPEAKER_00: And if if there was by some way we ended up in a moment where we could talk to him for a little bit, we would be blubbering idiots just like just like Goku is here.
31:06
SPEAKER_01: It'd be awesome to talk.
31:07
SPEAKER_01: I mean, it kind of I mean you see that theme in a lot of sh- I mean, uh, what is it?
31:12
SPEAKER_01: Onward, I think is onward, yeah.
31:14
SPEAKER_01: Onward's a great movie.
31:15
SPEAKER_00: I I I called you after I watched it the first time and like blubbered like an idiot on the phone to you about.
31:20
SPEAKER_01: But it's it's a it's a big brotherly love movie.
31:23
SPEAKER_01: But it also has the uh the thing of oh, they're finally being able to like see their dad for the first time.
31:27
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
31:28
SPEAKER_01: It's that's like the entire if you've never watched it, I'll say it's great, especially if you are if you have like a brotherly relationship with you know your brother, I guess I should say.
31:38
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
31:38
SPEAKER_01: Uh it's kind of obvious on the nose.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: And or any sort of like familiar relation with the other.
31:43
SPEAKER_00: Or like sisterly relations, yeah.
31:44
SPEAKER_01: Like an older sibling relationship.
31:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or one of these the older, one of these the younger.
31:48
SPEAKER_01: Or if you, you know, have lost a loved one.
31:52
SPEAKER_01: Like or or or or even if you haven't, just honestly, if you haven't watched it, take give it a try.
31:58
SPEAKER_01: It's awesome.
31:58
SPEAKER_01: I'm sh I think it's been on Disney Plus for a while.
32:01
SPEAKER_00: Since 2020.
32:02
SPEAKER_00: It's the Disney movie.
32:03
SPEAKER_00: It's a Pixar movie, yeah.
32:05
SPEAKER_00: It's just it's there.
32:06
SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, like it hit the same like this scene hit the same chords as that final scene in that movie where it's like, you know, the younger brother, like, you know, he g he lets the older brother have a chance to go talk to his dad for the first time, you know.
32:20
SPEAKER_00: Or the first time in a while.
32:22
SPEAKER_00: And it it hits that same thing for like for me as like, yeah, if I had a chance to talk to uh talk to our grandpa one more time, like I would be a bloodrun idiot and be telling him everything that he's missed over the last decade plus, you know.
32:35
SPEAKER_01: Like I don't I don't think there's a single uh person alive who doesn't have someone that's no longer with them.
32:42
SPEAKER_01: Like alive above the age of like 10.
32:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
32:44
SPEAKER_01: Who doesn't have a single person who's no longer with them that they were able to have a bond with that they wouldn't, if given the chance to even just have a 30-minute conversation with, wouldn't, you know, pay you all the money in the world and all of the the you know they they I there's people would probably pr become sisyphists if it meant they could talk to that person one more time.
33:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
33:07
SPEAKER_01: Like it's just it's a it's a feeling that everyone yearns for.
33:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:12
SPEAKER_00: Another one for me would be Dakota, as he's kind of on my mind.
33:15
SPEAKER_00: I knew Dakota, but like this one this one hits more to my like a grandpa relationship.
33:22
SPEAKER_01: Because it's a grandpa relationship, and it is a grandpa relationship, like he kinda he's you you got raised a little bit more by him.
33:31
SPEAKER_01: I I got actually I got raised a little bit more by him than you did, because you got all you got a lot, you got a couple years with a different grandpa.
33:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:39
SPEAKER_01: Um it's still there But we both got ra we both got raised by him a lot.
33:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
33:43
SPEAKER_01: Because there was a time parents were divorced, you know, divorced when we were young.
33:47
SPEAKER_00: And even before that, like they were we were over at his house like every weekend, you know.
33:52
SPEAKER_01: And so there was a time where like our dad worked overnight, so there was and he would work a week on, week off.
33:57
SPEAKER_01: So like on the week that he was working, our grandma and grandpa would be over at our house basically getting us up and getting us to school every morning.
34:05
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
34:06
SPEAKER_01: Make sure we get the bus and didn't drive us.
34:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
34:08
SPEAKER_01: But like, and so we were around him for a very long portion of our childhood.
34:14
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
34:14
SPEAKER_01: I mean, you were around him until freshman year of college, because that's when it happened for you.
34:18
SPEAKER_01: And then I was there until freshman year of high school.
34:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
34:22
SPEAKER_00: And it yeah, it just it really like that like that's why it hit more as a grandpa.
34:26
SPEAKER_00: Yeah because it is a grandpa and that's why.
34:29
SPEAKER_00: So like it could correlate to Dakota, and and so like there's nothing I wouldn't give to have like a moment with Dakota, like pre-all of the medical stuff that started happening in the last couple years, where I could just talk to him, we could hang out every time.
34:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess is a way to say it.
34:43
SPEAKER_00: But like for this scene specifically, it really had me thinking about our grandpa, you know.
34:48
SPEAKER_01: Um especially with how fast it happened with him.
34:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
34:52
SPEAKER_01: Which I which is kind of what it seems like it happened with Goku.
34:55
SPEAKER_01: Like he just woke up one day unknowingly, the cause of it, and his grandpa was gone.
35:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:00
SPEAKER_01: It it's kind of how it happened to us with just a little you know, an extra twenty-four-hour period, I think.
35:06
SPEAKER_00: And then um d trying to get back on track with the episode.
35:10
SPEAKER_01: Trying to be super sappy.
35:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
35:13
SPEAKER_01: Not that not that that's a bad thing.
35:14
SPEAKER_00: It's not a bad thing, but just to just so because we could sat here for another 20 minutes talking about the good times with them.
35:20
SPEAKER_00: But I don't think people want to hear that.
35:21
SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna move on.
35:22
SPEAKER_00: Um they might put maybe not for that long, but yeah.
35:27
SPEAKER_00: Um I th I really enjoyed the way they explained how Gohan came back, and it is like a thing that comes up throughout the show.
35:34
SPEAKER_00: Um not to spoil it, but this isn't the first dead person who comes back to life, like the by that means, you know, of coming back from other world.
35:44
SPEAKER_01: Who comes with a purpose, yeah.
35:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
35:46
SPEAKER_00: Because like them, I didn't realize how soon they brought up the other world and like the the main world.
35:52
SPEAKER_00: They bring it up really fast.
35:53
SPEAKER_00: Like, I thought it was later on in the show, like in this first part, if not even like z in Z, you know.
35:59
SPEAKER_01: Like it was like, no, it's the first as soon as you see Gohan, it's like, yeah, yeah, this is how it happens.
36:04
SPEAKER_00: There's the re there's the main plane, the main plane, and then there's the other world that's underneath this one.
36:08
SPEAKER_00: Or above it, or wherever, you know, like yeah, it's that's the other world.
36:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
36:13
SPEAKER_00: And it's it's fun to like hear the exclamation, and that like that's what it is.
36:17
SPEAKER_01: Like as somebody who's seen the rest of the show, like, I also love how well they set up the rules of at least this occurrence of like coming back.
36:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you can.
36:27
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure there might be other I mean, I'm I'm not I'm gonna assume because like it might the Google Post might move mattering on who is acting or not, but I don't know.
36:36
SPEAKER_00: I'm going to tell you the only way people come back from Otherworld is the one day pass after they've earned it.
36:42
SPEAKER_00: Or the Dragon Ball.
36:42
SPEAKER_00: Or the Dragon Ball's wished back.
36:44
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go ahead and tell you that.
36:45
SPEAKER_00: Like when you're in Otherworld, you're in Otherworld, unless you gain that one day pass.
36:50
SPEAKER_00: Or the Dragon Ball.
36:51
SPEAKER_00: Someone does what Goku's planning to do in the world.
36:53
SPEAKER_00: To bring more back.
36:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
36:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
36:56
SPEAKER_00: Um, but they explained it really well, and I love that they kept it, you know.
37:00
SPEAKER_00: Um like that they just keep they they keep this as like this is the rule.
37:04
SPEAKER_00: It's like you're if you're in other worlds, you cannot come back except for for one day every however many years.
37:10
SPEAKER_01: That is a that is a good thing to like get across as like in this is a great world-building moment that sets up Dragon Ball.
37:17
SPEAKER_01: Is like do this when you're building a world for whatever you're building, whether you're writing a book, DD, anything.
37:24
SPEAKER_01: It's a good thing.
37:24
SPEAKER_01: If something this powerful can exist, make sure it has set bin smart things.
37:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
37:31
SPEAKER_01: And either there's like one MacGuffin that like makes it stronger, i.e., collecting all the dragon balls and pushing the bag.
37:38
SPEAKER_01: Or and if not, you know, if you don't want to have a MacGuffin that does that, maybe just add a few more people in the world that can accomplish that feat.
37:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
37:46
SPEAKER_01: Because so far we only know of Baba.
37:48
SPEAKER_01: I'm sure there are maybe a couple other characters, and maybe there's a there's a ruler of the other world that might hand out passes like for extreme circumstances.
37:58
SPEAKER_01: We will get there.
37:59
SPEAKER_00: But we'll get there.
37:59
SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, because that's kind of what happens a lot of times in these media.
38:03
SPEAKER_00: I didn't expect it to be the rules to be set up, and it these are the rules.
38:08
SPEAKER_00: Like the rules that they set up is like, yeah, if you're in other worlds, you don't get to come back forever unless the Dragon Balls are used.
38:15
SPEAKER_00: Um revive wish.
38:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
38:17
SPEAKER_00: I also love that Gohan is like, I don't want to be back here.
38:22
SPEAKER_00: Like, I I I love you, but like, and I love all of you, but you are so much past me at this point.
38:30
SPEAKER_00: You don't need me.
38:31
SPEAKER_01: I might come back to like I might come back to like give you like a cheer sometime later down the road.
38:38
SPEAKER_01: Or come back if you're in a you know, if you're in a sad spot, you need some like you need to pick me up.
38:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
38:43
SPEAKER_01: But other than that, you know, I'm gonna go hang out with these babes.
38:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
38:46
SPEAKER_00: And I love that like him and Roshi have the same like sense of humor on that stuff where he's like, I got a lot of brunettes waiting back for me.
38:53
SPEAKER_00: And go back, yeah, Roshi hits him with the safe sum for me.
38:57
SPEAKER_01: I do love the moment where Gohan comes over, it's like, so what about the whole going ape thing?
39:02
SPEAKER_01: And Roshi's like, don't worry, I took care of that.
39:04
SPEAKER_00: I blew up the moon, and Gohan was just perfectly fine.
39:06
SPEAKER_00: And Gohan's like, thank you.
39:08
SPEAKER_00: My hands are that was the last question I had.
39:11
SPEAKER_00: Anyways, guys, I'll see you later.
39:13
SPEAKER_00: And Goku's like, what you guys talking about up here?
39:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
39:15
SPEAKER_00: But I also love Bulma exaggerating the truth on what happened.
39:20
SPEAKER_01: It felt so so on par with Bulma of like, yeah, I you know where me and him were both the heroes of the story.
39:26
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Bulma, you did like five things.
39:29
SPEAKER_00: The one thing you did that was important was you got Goku to come along with you.
39:33
SPEAKER_00: And you have the radar.
39:35
SPEAKER_00: And built a radar, yeah.
39:36
SPEAKER_00: Those are the two the two contributions you've had to the two major contributions.
39:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
39:40
SPEAKER_01: You have had minor contributions here and there, like getting things back on track.
39:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
39:43
SPEAKER_01: But for the most part, you did a radar and you got Goku involved.
39:48
SPEAKER_01: You did a radar and you got the main character of the story going.
39:52
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
39:52
SPEAKER_00: And then we just have a flash like my last note is, woo, flashback episode, because it's just the rest of the episode is mostly the flashback.
39:59
SPEAKER_01: Mostly the flashback, and then some like setup for the next episode.
40:03
SPEAKER_00: I do like that Opa offers Goku the chance to bring Gohan back.
40:07
SPEAKER_00: Obviously, like Gohan doesn't want to come back, and that's what seals it as like, no, it's going to your dad.
40:12
SPEAKER_00: It's going to your dad, yeah.
40:13
SPEAKER_00: But like, don't like I love that Upa had the awareness to be like, how is it fair for me to ask for my dad back when his grandpa is right here?
40:21
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
40:22
SPEAKER_00: Like, why don't we just let him go?
40:23
SPEAKER_01: Because I did because this is the first time everyone had known of Gohan.
40:27
SPEAKER_01: Everyone else had known of Gohan.
40:28
SPEAKER_01: Upa had never known of Gohan because Upa hadn't like wasn't around for those conversations because Upa's the newest member of the party.
40:34
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
40:35
SPEAKER_01: So Opa, like the entire mission this entire time has been Bora.
40:38
SPEAKER_01: Which does beg to make it like how selfish is Goku that like his first thought is, Oh, I'll I'll just wish your dad back.
40:47
SPEAKER_01: Instead of being like, oh, I'd get the Dragon Balls and wish mine, and then in a year we can get Bora back.
40:51
SPEAKER_00: So my thought on that is that he goes on a singular mission because of the one the because of it immediately happening in front of him.
40:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's the thing.
41:00
SPEAKER_00: Gohan doesn't cross his mind in that moment because I'm guess that my thought process on it is that he has the same thought that I would have of like Gohan's been gone too long, like how is he going to come back?
41:10
SPEAKER_00: His body's decomposing, where's he going to go?
41:14
SPEAKER_01: Like if this monkey paws, it's gonna look real bad.
41:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:17
SPEAKER_00: And it's not that like Goku's thinking, like, oh, that this is gonna go bad, but he's probably thinking it's too late is kind of the thought there for me.
41:24
SPEAKER_00: It's one of those that like if Goku had the chance to make a wish and the first with in the Pilaf saga, he would probably have tried to wish Gohan back.
41:31
SPEAKER_00: But now that it's been a whole nother year and some change after, yeah, it's like he doesn't have a lot of things.
41:36
SPEAKER_00: That's a good way, that's a good way to think of it.
41:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like and and because this was so sudden and Goku feels like it's his fault.
41:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah he's like, I've gotta fix my mistake.
41:45
SPEAKER_01: I I let this kind of happen to him in a way in his mind.
41:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I wasn't strong enough to help him, yada yada.
41:51
SPEAKER_00: I couldn't even avenge him properly the first time.
41:54
SPEAKER_01: Like it took me it took me an extra couple of days to like get my get back.
41:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
41:59
SPEAKER_00: Uh we're going to save your dad.
42:01
SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, and I just and I love that Gohan just says, like, no, my time's past.
42:07
SPEAKER_00: Like, if I come like it's it's meta reading it, it's if I come back, you're gonna just not do anything.
42:13
SPEAKER_00: You're gonna come back and live with me and not go explore and get stronger.
42:16
SPEAKER_01: It's like You're not gonna you're not gonna follow like your destiny in in a way.
42:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because you're going to give up on it to be around me because you got a second chance and you're not gonna waste it, you know.
42:26
SPEAKER_00: And so I'm piecing out because, first of all, I got a lot of brunettes waiting for me.
42:31
SPEAKER_00: I got out on good behavior, and if that good behavior is because I'm strong as I'll get out, not because I've been acting nice over there.
42:37
SPEAKER_00: I am back.
42:41
SPEAKER_00: But I don't have anything else to say except for I'm excited to see where the next episodes are gonna go with Pilaf coming back.
42:47
SPEAKER_00: I'm interested to see how this fight goes because it feels like Pilaf is supposed to be more formidable now.
42:53
SPEAKER_01: Like that entire group's supposed to be more formidable.
42:56
SPEAKER_01: Because it definitely feels like there's maybe there's probably just two, maybe three characters right now in the party.
43:03
SPEAKER_01: Because I'm assuming Baba is not Baba's fight.
43:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Baba can like.
43:07
SPEAKER_01: Baba's not coming.
43:08
SPEAKER_01: So, and none of her monsters or anything are going.
43:11
SPEAKER_00: Yam shall be uh be of help, Krillin will be of help.
43:14
SPEAKER_00: I'm saying might be of help a bit.
43:17
SPEAKER_01: I'm saying there's probably two characters in the party who have like the guaranteed gumption to beat one of these robots.
43:23
SPEAKER_01: And it's Goku and Roshi, because Roshi's the only one who's fought Goku to like a true standstill in the last like 20 to 30 episodes.
43:32
SPEAKER_00: But it also feels like they built these robots custom made to take down the party.
43:36
SPEAKER_00: Like to take down the crew.
43:38
SPEAKER_00: Like they gave them super enhanced strength, they've got agility.
43:41
SPEAKER_01: One of them has like well taking down the crew is just taking down Goku.
43:44
SPEAKER_01: They custom built them to beat the only thing they couldn't beat in the party.
43:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
43:47
SPEAKER_01: Because honestly, they can hold I feel like they I feel like Mei and Shu can hold their own against like Yamcha.
43:53
SPEAKER_01: Probably Yamcha, maybe Krillin, with like with a thousand wolves.
43:57
SPEAKER_01: By just using the gadgets they kind of already had at their disposal.
44:00
SPEAKER_00: Well Shu has the wolf army we haven't seen.
44:02
SPEAKER_00: He just releases releases the Hounds of War, the million dogs under his control, and they just go and rip them all to shreds.
44:09
SPEAKER_00: Um but that's all we have uh for now is unless you got anything else you wanted to bring up before we jump in.
44:15
SPEAKER_01: Um so predictions from last episode is multi-episode fight uh yes Goku beats him that's the one I'm kind of like I don't know if you count it as beating him it's more like Gohan gives up is on a on a technicality by the definition of like what the fight was going for Goku gets the rewards.
44:40
SPEAKER_01: But I I if you don't want to give it to me because on a because technically he doesn't win win as far as like knocking out like uh um arena his opponent or ringing out his opponent there it is.
44:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
44:53
SPEAKER_00: Um then I just I wasn't sure what your thought I wasn't sure what your thought on it was because it's like the I think when you the intent of it was like he's going to win the fight straight up not like a that was the intent of what I said.
45:05
SPEAKER_01: That's why I said like on a technicality he got his reward which was the objective of winning the fight but also like he didn't win in the traditional sense.
45:14
SPEAKER_00: He just he got the surrender to I I'm gonna go ahead and say that one was a no.
45:18
SPEAKER_00: Because the next one was that Roshi figures it out before Goku that does happen.
45:22
SPEAKER_00: Even though it took Roshi way too long to figure it out in our opinion and he did figure it out before Goku did.
45:27
SPEAKER_01: Roshi showed his age a little bit there.
45:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah it took him a little bit the room on that one.
45:34
SPEAKER_00: And then we moving into our next predictions for the next episode I also counted off your last one of your predictions you added for the saga which was that all the fighters are going to be universal monsters.
45:43
SPEAKER_00: Yeah I'm saying we're gonna I think we can finally say clearly that that is not the cleared that off last episode.
45:49
SPEAKER_00: But I was just making sure in case anybody had a question so um moving into the next two episodes they're named Pilof's Tactics and the Eternal Dragon Rises.
45:59
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
46:00
SPEAKER_01: Well I think it's pretty obvious that Pilaf's tactics is gonna involve them fighting Pilaf manchu.
46:08
SPEAKER_01: Yeah uh getting a big fight with the robot I'm gonna say they don't win the fight until the beginning of the next of uh episode 78.
46:19
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
46:20
SPEAKER_00: They don't win until the beginning of next episode?
46:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah sometime in the first half of next episode.
46:28
SPEAKER_00: Alright what do you think the Eternal Dragon rises means Jesse?
46:33
SPEAKER_01: I think someone's gonna at least initiate a wish we might not fully get the wish until the like 79 the next episode okay they initiate a wish they initiate slash make the wish but I think it's we'll just say initiate because I know they're probably gonna do that.
46:49
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
46:49
SPEAKER_00: Any other predictions you got?
46:52
SPEAKER_00: I know one of your wish one of your things was is that the wish doesn't immediately work and that's for the whole saga.
46:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
46:58
SPEAKER_00: So do you do you still think there's gonna be something if they're if they're initiating the wish in episode seventy eight what like what do you think's gonna be the drawback I guess would be my question just to try to tie them all together for maybe they like have to go to other world and ask Bora if he wants to come back.
47:15
SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
47:16
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
47:16
SPEAKER_01: Or maybe they have to like wait for the eternal dragon to be like hey do you want to come back bro?
47:20
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
47:21
SPEAKER_01: I I'd be my okay kind of throw something at the wall and see if it sticks.
47:25
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
47:26
SPEAKER_00: I I enjoy that.
47:27
SPEAKER_00: Um and so with that we've got our predictions in and so Jesse I know it's a hard thing to do but what is your worst part?
47:35
SPEAKER_01: Worst part um I'm just gonna because of how much it annoyed me how long it took Roshi to figure out it was going yeah yeah there's two things that annoyed me how long the tail whipping like low-keying of Goku went on but that like at least had like a fun comedic of value and also like it resulted in it went on for so long it's tail ripped.
47:56
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
47:56
SPEAKER_01: The the Roshi one just was it was you could hear me getting aggravated while we were watching the show I'm like you figured it out like five minutes ago man.
48:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah why just spit it out just say what you're thinking.
48:08
SPEAKER_00: I was saying that the entire time like bro I I for me it's the flashback because it's the only part that's like extra padding.
48:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah it's like they could have just done like a time skip to them all eating around a table and him being like wow Goku you've been on such a long journey like and no wonder you've gotten so much like immediately so yeah.
48:29
SPEAKER_01: And also that is like the only anime exclusive part that kind of was extreme killer where because like it said I think if you remember in the case yeah the other parts where they extended stuff but this was like they they truly just added this.
48:44
SPEAKER_00: Because she basically just tells them like we've been on a lot of journeys together and that and we set got the Dragon Balls and stuff and then they're like wow and they move on but this they threw they threw a whole bunch of flashbacks which I don't hate but if there's going to be a part that is the worst part of these episodes it's for me it's that because it's the only part that like sticks out as bad.
49:05
SPEAKER_00: Not that it's awful again if we're power ranking worse parts this isn't very high but it is the worst part of these two episodes in my opinion.
49:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah these were definitely top these were top tier episodes in my opinion.
49:17
SPEAKER_00: Yeah these are very these are very high these these are up here with like the tournament saga some high highs yeah and some very high lows.
49:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah the the the floor is extremely high and the ceiling is also extremely high.
49:28
SPEAKER_00: The floor is the roof so my my f my best part not to beat around the bush I'm taking it ahead of time it's the emotional reconnection with Goku and Gohan that's gotta be it for me.
49:40
SPEAKER_01: Um I think my best part this is me gonna give some some bit of some like uh credit to the animation is when they're animating Gohan's Kamehameha like the way the effects work in front of everybody in the audience is just like flying by them and the way it's pulsing.
50:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah but like and you're getting like small details of their faces behind it as they're like I thought that looked awesome.
50:12
SPEAKER_01: And maybe that's my that's maybe that's just me maybe I'm just I just like small details like that.
50:17
SPEAKER_01: But like I thought that looked awesome because I mean the entire fight's amazing I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna cut out and say oh yo 16 minutes 16 to 20 some odd minutes of this of these episodes are the best part.
50:32
SPEAKER_01: So I'm like I'm gonna pick that like in the fight I love it bouncing around I love like um when they kind of like both when uh Gohan like bounces and does that but I I like the command may wave I like his animated command mayo wave a lot my runner up is the choreography throughout these two episodes were pretty especially the first episode is great.
50:51
SPEAKER_00: Like I said I don't have a whole lot of bad to talk about with this the these episodes were very high on my list especially getting them in the same episode like is really great.
51:00
SPEAKER_00: If you're looking to get into Dragon Ball these there are not bet there aren't very many better episodes to get in on than these reason of this OG series.
51:09
SPEAKER_00: Like the these two are pretty top tier in my opinion like if you don't if you watch these and you're like eh I don't really get it you probably aren't gonna like Dragon Ball.
51:17
SPEAKER_00: I will hope you stick around and listen to us talk about it because we think it's really good.
51:20
SPEAKER_00: But like if you want to get into it and you don't want to start at number one these are great episodes to get you to know what's going on.
51:27
SPEAKER_01: She's also the flashback about what's going on.
51:29
SPEAKER_00: Well you get to see what what's all happened too as much as that's my worst part like it is like if you if you want to get in this gives you everything to you jumping in for these these two episodes you get you get to see everybody um except for I don't I think the only person we don't see is launch um of the main characters that we have but otherwise everyone else is in those yeah because we see because we see uh oolong we see the captain oolong we also haven't seen the ox king or Chi Chi but they're not really main characters we also boom hasn't interacted with them a whole lot yeah same with launch boom hasn't interacted with launch a whole lot easier um but if you don't have anything else to say Jesse I think we're coming to the end of this episode thank you guys all for listening I hope you download subscribe rate download subscribe rate and review leave a five star rating we'd love it um it also you can reach out to us at becomingsayans at gmail.com uh you can also reach out to us on our Twitter on our Instagram on our TikTok and on YouTube at BecomingSaianspod um we would love to hear from you guys and get some feedback and anything you we could do to make this better for you all coming out of the tumultuous last couple months we've had it is being more active on there yeah I've been trying my best to be more active on there um but until next week I've been Truman and I've been Jesse and the journey continues.
52:45
SPEAKER_01: Bye
