- Yoel Bakas: Last week I said that AI in radiation oncology is not a one time purchase. This is the next rung. The question on the table is usually whether the tool actually works. That's the wrong question, because the answer is usually yes. The tool works in the demo. It works in the validation study. It works at the conference. the question that decides whether it pays is different. Is your organization structured to extract value from the tool? I'm not evaluating the algorithm. I'm evaluating the workflow it has to live inside. Look, I've watched vendors demo efficiency for twenty years. The efficiency was always real on the screen. Unfortunately, it often didn't show up in the department. And that's because taking in the tool meant more checks. It met more exceptions. It meant more oversight. AI doesn't usually fail technically. It fails structurally. When the workflow and the staffing are not redesigned to take advantage of what the tool promises. From hype to value is not a software step. It's an operating model step.
