- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining me on the line right now to let us
- 0:02Speaker 1: know how things have gone over the weekend. It is
- 0:06Speaker 1: Craig Garaway from Saint John get A.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Craig, Good morning, Katie.
- 0:10Speaker 1: How are you very well mate? I understand you guys
- 0:13Speaker 1: had a very busy weekend by the look of it.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Nine crashes and nine people transported to hospital.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a bit of a busy weekend on
- 0:23Speaker 2: the road from a car crash perspective. As you said,
- 0:27Speaker 2: nine crashes, nine people take in the hospital. Obviously a
- 0:29Speaker 2: lot of crashes in the Darwin area and obviously a
- 0:32Speaker 2: lot of people going into the hospital system. Thankfully not
- 0:36Speaker 2: too serious in even them, but you know, still a
- 0:39Speaker 2: lot of damage and obviously a lot of time spend
- 0:42Speaker 2: in the hospital system taking up time there. So it
- 0:45Speaker 2: all started Saturday morning, Katie, on about ten o'clock we
- 0:48Speaker 2: had a young little Suzuki collide with a light pole
- 0:53Speaker 2: out at Parmas and there on the highway. That car
- 0:55Speaker 2: is actually still sitting there. I saw it again this morning.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It's got a fair bit of damage to it. Hoefully
- 1:00Speaker 2: there no one was too seriously injured, but they were
- 1:03Speaker 2: taken at the hospital as a result of hitting that
- 1:05Speaker 2: light bulb.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Well, I tell you what, Like you said, lucky, they
- 1:08Speaker 1: weren't too seriously injured, but in a stable condition by
- 1:12Speaker 1: the sounds of it in hospital, and that's not where
- 1:15Speaker 1: it ended. Another one on Sunday, pretty early in the morning,
- 1:18Speaker 1: seven fifty.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it looked just a bit more serious about forty
- 1:22Speaker 2: k's down the Arm Highway. Two adults and two young
- 1:26Speaker 2: children in a vehicle there that's rolled over. I think
- 1:28Speaker 2: they're all able to get out of that vehicle and
- 1:31Speaker 2: when we arrived they all had a number of minor injuries.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It did require us to take them back to the
- 1:36Speaker 2: Royal Dun Hospital for a bit of treatment. And then
- 1:40Speaker 2: pretty much following on, about three or four hours later,
- 1:42Speaker 2: out of Cox Fininsul on the corner of Stuart Highway there,
- 1:46Speaker 2: we had another single vehicle roll over there and I
- 1:48Speaker 2: thank for only one person in that vehicle at the
- 1:50Speaker 2: time and gain minor injuries, but did require us to
- 1:53Speaker 2: take them to the Royal Dun Hospital. So yeah, all
- 1:55Speaker 2: in all, with everything else going on, very very busy
- 1:58Speaker 2: for our paramedic crews and all other emergency services who
- 2:01Speaker 2: are out there helping us.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it certainly sounds like it.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Hey, Craig.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I mean, do you reckon that the fact that there
- 2:08Speaker 1: was those nine crashes and nine people transported to hospital.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Do you think that that rain on Saturday had much
- 2:14Speaker 1: to do with it or no idea at this point, not.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Really, because it's a number of those crashes were on
- 2:19Speaker 2: Someday and we didn't have any rain someday. I think
- 2:22Speaker 2: it's just in attention, Katie. You know, every day I
- 2:24Speaker 2: drive to work, people are tailgating each other and it
- 2:27Speaker 2: only takes someone to break quickly, and you know that
- 2:29Speaker 2: just starts a chain reaction. You know, people driving through
- 2:33Speaker 2: red lights. It just amazes me. It scares me some
- 2:35Speaker 2: days that people just don't seem to think they have
- 2:38Speaker 2: to stop for red lights. And yeah, it's just all
- 2:41Speaker 2: those silly little things that you know, we shouldn't be doing,
- 2:44Speaker 2: but we Everyone just seems to be in a hurry. Now.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Oh and you've got to take care no matter what,
- 2:50Speaker 1: because you don't want to wind up in a terrible
- 2:52Speaker 1: crash and worse still end up losing your life. So
- 2:55Speaker 1: I think it is important that we do take care
- 2:57Speaker 1: on the roads.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's the innocent people that get caught up
- 3:01Speaker 2: in the middle of it. You know, usually the ones
- 3:02Speaker 2: that gets seriously injured or you know, worse killed, Usually
- 3:07Speaker 2: the innocent people who are doing the right thing and
- 3:09Speaker 2: unfortunately so imagine doing something silly and having to live
- 3:13Speaker 2: with that for the rest of your life, killing someone
- 3:15Speaker 2: or a family.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that's exactly right. Well, Craig Garaway, I always appreciate
- 3:19Speaker 1: your time. Thanks so much for having a chat with
- 3:21Speaker 1: me this morning.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I've been great, Katie. Thank you. You
