- 0:00Speaker 1: He didn't float. I guess he's guilty. It's one more
- 0:02Speaker 1: thing I'm.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Strong and getty one.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Before we gets a medieval justice, which I had promised
- 0:12Speaker 1: during the radio show.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Is that your new midday judge show? Yeah, Judge Jack
- 0:18Speaker 3: and Medieval Justice.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yes, where I use the justice system of the early
- 0:26Speaker 1: teens thirteen fourteen hundreds. I mentioned on the radio show
- 0:30Speaker 1: that I'm considering taking my son to Rolling Loud, California,
- 0:34Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. It's a music festival in Inglewood, California
- 0:38Speaker 1: at Hollywood Park Grounds. I don't know anything about this.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm trying to research it, and that's why I threw
- 0:43Speaker 1: it out to you listeners. Would it be safe to
- 0:45Speaker 1: me to go with my son? He's a fifteen year
- 0:48Speaker 1: old white kid. I imagine there'll be lots of fifteen
- 0:52Speaker 1: year old white kids there. I don't know if there'll
- 0:54Speaker 1: be many old white dudes my age there or not. Anyway,
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's Playboy, CARDI, Suicide Boy, Little TJ, Little TJ, yst Grizzly,
- 1:03Speaker 1: Ken Carson. That's why my son wants to go, Thanks
- 1:06Speaker 1: so much, Little Taylor, A bunch of other people I
- 1:08Speaker 1: haven't heard of in neither of you probably, but you
- 1:11Speaker 1: never know what stuff like this. It's either perfectly okay
- 1:14Speaker 1: and it's as many suburban white kids uh and dads
- 1:19Speaker 1: as it is you know, BIPOC people or whatever, and
- 1:23Speaker 1: there's so much money to be made off of T
- 1:24Speaker 1: shirts and expensive colas that it's incredibly safe and blah
- 1:28Speaker 1: blah blah, or it could be a guaranteed shooting outside
- 1:33Speaker 1: after the lights go down. I shouldn't be there, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: I have no idea which right mm, And I threw
- 1:40Speaker 1: it out there for people with their suggestions. I can
- 1:43Speaker 1: tell a lot of the texts I got for people
- 1:45Speaker 1: that haven't.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Been anything like this. You're just making assumptions.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's like all the people that used to tell me
- 1:50Speaker 1: don't go to Mexico, and I went to Mexico gazillion times,
- 1:53Speaker 1: had a wonderful time. You didn't have any idea what
- 1:55Speaker 1: you're talking about. You're just basing it on rumors you've heard.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Just forwarded you an email from a in the area.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He runs an airbnb right there, and all it helpful
- 2:04Speaker 3: is he leaning yes or no? Let's see, I'll read
- 2:08Speaker 3: it to you.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Crowds before and after will be urban youth. I go
- 2:13Speaker 3: to Sofi Park in Englewood and walk Actually no danger
- 2:16Speaker 3: for football, danger is walking slow groups fighting generally probably okay,
- 2:21Speaker 3: But transitional space is the problem.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true for lots of things. Man, It's always
- 2:29Speaker 1: so hard to know based on others. Yeah.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and fear of opinion on most things. But I
- 2:35Speaker 3: have not the slightest idea. I could picture it being
- 2:38Speaker 3: a lot like Disneyland, and also picture it being holy crap,
- 2:41Speaker 3: what have I done right?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Exactly?
- 2:44Speaker 1: Do you have any opinion on this, Katie?
- 2:46Speaker 4: I really don't. I have no clue about this type
- 2:49Speaker 4: of stuff. I can think of rock club well, no,
- 2:53Speaker 4: I don't.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I don't even know if I want to get into this.
- 2:55Speaker 3: So this person said, go ahead, clubs that I've gone
- 2:58Speaker 3: to many shows at, and some that I've even played at.
- 3:00Speaker 3: That security is wildly different for hip hop shows than
- 3:07Speaker 3: any other show. Just but you know, what's what's you know?
- 3:13Speaker 3: It's like somebody who knows nothing about metal heavy metal music,
- 3:18Speaker 3: for instance.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Assuming that.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Uh Deep Purple is the same as Metallica, is the
- 3:26Speaker 3: same as some Viking death metal outfit I've never heard of. Likewise,
- 3:30Speaker 3: with the hippity hop, what axe draw what sort of
- 3:33Speaker 3: people with what sort of proclivities for settling disputes say.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Well, like I got this text ul Tyler and Playboy
- 3:43Speaker 1: CARDI are they have a really big LGBTQ following, and
- 3:49Speaker 1: the crowd will be that, Well, that's probably a safe
- 3:52Speaker 1: crowd almost. Yeah, so that's that's different than you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: other rap hip hop crowds would be.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I just recommend that if you go, you refer to
- 4:04Speaker 4: it as hippity hop the entire time that you're there.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I do enjoy the hippie hop. Yeah, oh bad, this
- 4:11Speaker 3: is a great hippiie hop concert.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You might be the oldest white guy there, but your
- 4:15Speaker 1: son will have a really good time. I don't care
- 4:17Speaker 1: about that. I'm not cared care about whether or not
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm entertained by the music. Somebody else texted it. I
- 4:23Speaker 1: will definitely be a shooting out to the concert, But
- 4:25Speaker 1: I don't know if they're basing that on anything other
- 4:27Speaker 1: than you know, they watch the news.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Well wait a minute, maybe that guy's planning on shooting somewhere.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Because we got this one. My twenty four year old
- 4:36Speaker 1: daughter is driving to that show in Englanwood. She's very
- 4:39Speaker 1: excited about going.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So I have no idea.
- 4:42Speaker 1: My guess would be if I was gonna guess, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to do more research so I don't
- 4:46Speaker 1: end up in a bad situation. But my guess would
- 4:48Speaker 1: be it's more toward the hip hop Disneyland lots of
- 4:51Speaker 1: money to be made sort of thing, would be my guess,
- 4:56Speaker 1: although I'm not sure what you mean by you know,
- 4:59Speaker 1: there's only lots of money to be made if it's
- 5:01Speaker 1: a family friendly, suburban, white peopleish atmosphere, but mountains of
- 5:08Speaker 1: money to be made in the other direction.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But I've been to lots of concerts that were fights
- 5:15Speaker 1: freaking everywhere and all kinds of stuff, and I went
- 5:19Speaker 1: and I didn't feel like I was gonna die, so
- 5:21Speaker 1: you know.
- 5:22Speaker 5: You know what. You know, what concert that I went
- 5:23Speaker 5: to where I saw the most fights was a freaking
- 5:26Speaker 5: country concert.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Hank Williams Junior. When I went to Kansas City.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Oh my god, I've never seen so many fights. Yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: Hank Junior fought the bass player. People were rolling around
- 5:36Speaker 1: in the aisles fighting. You had Oh my god, Oh.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah, the lines, it's the shootings.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 5: It was at the shoreline and these two guys started
- 5:46Speaker 5: brawling up at the top of the lawn and they
- 5:47Speaker 5: went all the way down the hill on the grass.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Oh that's exciting.
- 5:51Speaker 2: That was the best show in itself. Okay, I need
- 5:55Speaker 2: to get to this.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So but if you have any opinions on that, if
- 5:57Speaker 1: you think it would actually be dangerous, if you have
- 5:59Speaker 1: any actually experience with this sort of thing, do you
- 6:02Speaker 1: think it would be dangerous or okay for me to
- 6:03Speaker 1: take my son to it. Back to medieval justice, And
- 6:07Speaker 1: I won't take too long on this. I just read
- 6:08Speaker 1: this yesterday on some history Twitter thread and I thought
- 6:12Speaker 1: it was interesting. The way, you know, the whole jury
- 6:16Speaker 1: trial thing is a fairly recent invention, and the idea
- 6:20Speaker 1: that you get to present your evidence and all that
- 6:22Speaker 1: sort of stuff partially with getting God out of the picture.
- 6:26Speaker 1: But back in the old day they had there were
- 6:28Speaker 1: the three ordeals in old timey medieval justice. Without a
- 6:32Speaker 1: formal way of determining someone's guilt or innocence, the accused
- 6:35Speaker 1: were subject to trial by ordeal. There are three types
- 6:38Speaker 1: of ordeals, or deal by fire or deal by.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Water, and ordeal by combat. Oh boy.
- 6:44Speaker 1: The goal of these ordeals was to subject the accused
- 6:48Speaker 1: to extreme circumstances. If you survive. God wanted you to
- 6:52Speaker 1: survive because.
- 6:52Speaker 2: You were innocent.
- 6:53Speaker 1: If you didn't survive, you're clearly guilty in God, let
- 6:56Speaker 1: you die or deal by fire required the accused to
- 7:01Speaker 1: carry a red hot iron nine feet and then have
- 7:04Speaker 1: their hands bandaged. After three days, they were required to
- 7:07Speaker 1: show up in court and show their hands. If the
- 7:09Speaker 1: wounds had started to heal, they were considered innocent if
- 7:12Speaker 1: they if their condition hadn't improved, they'd be found guilty
- 7:15Speaker 1: and either jailed or put the death, depending on the.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Crime ge many there.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Were two different types of ordeal by water. We've heard
- 7:23Speaker 1: about this sort of thing from the Salem witch trials.
- 7:25Speaker 1: If they were subjected to a cold water ordeal, their
- 7:28Speaker 1: hands and feet would be tied and thrown in the water.
- 7:30Speaker 1: If you float, you're innocent. If you sank, I guess
- 7:33Speaker 1: you were guilty. Will you tie my hands to the
- 7:35Speaker 1: deep Brad?
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:38Speaker 2: How crazy is that?
- 7:40Speaker 1: For hot water ordeals, the accused had to retrieve a
- 7:43Speaker 1: stone from the bottom of a kettle of boiling water,
- 7:47Speaker 1: similar to the ordeal by fire. If your hands began
- 7:49Speaker 1: to heal after three days, you were innocent. You had
- 7:53Speaker 1: third degree burns.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Good golly, all this sounds awful. Is this the smartest
- 7:58Speaker 3: beast on the planet back then as now?
- 8:01Speaker 1: And we're not smarter? Like our brain power isn't greater
- 8:04Speaker 1: now than it wasn't thirteen hundred, except maybe incremental gains.
- 8:09Speaker 3: But yeah, right, hey.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Lastly, I would have hated this.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Ordeal by combat was used to help two parties solve
- 8:18Speaker 1: a dispute.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Let's get it on, bitches.
- 8:22Speaker 1: This was mostly used when there were no witnesses or
- 8:24Speaker 1: confessions to a crime. Two individuals would fight in combat
- 8:27Speaker 1: and the winner would be declared innocent. Who's the other
- 8:31Speaker 1: party to the dispute?
- 8:33Speaker 3: Can I take a look at him?
- 8:36Speaker 4: Right?
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm only going to get into disputes with old or
- 8:39Speaker 1: weak people.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Well, if it's that, or plunge my hand into a
- 8:44Speaker 3: boiling you know, cauldron of.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Water, Like if I don't know my neighbor Jim keeps
- 8:51Speaker 1: parking his RV and you know my side of the
- 8:54Speaker 1: lot or something like that. But he's twenty five six
- 8:58Speaker 1: four two eighty.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, let that one go.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh, that's that's a fine system of justice.
- 9:06Speaker 1: See if he's the former high school chess champion and
- 9:09Speaker 1: a weedy little dude, I might say, hey, get your
- 9:11Speaker 1: RV off my land. You want to settle this and
- 9:13Speaker 1: trial by combat?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Yeah, run a little trial by combat, big man. Huh.
- 9:19Speaker 3: They had that in the Game of Thrones that Jamie
- 9:21Speaker 3: Lanister or somebody said, I choose trial by combat, and
- 9:24Speaker 3: everybody's like, oh, oh my god boy. Another thing was
- 9:28Speaker 3: the other dude can say, you know I'm gonna choose
- 9:29Speaker 3: a substitute. Is that because you could do? Is that
- 9:33Speaker 3: what a second was originally? You know, I didn't go
- 9:36Speaker 3: to medieval law school anymore than I went to modern
- 9:39Speaker 3: law school, but I know there is a thing where
- 9:43Speaker 3: you can appoint a substitute. Oh wow, cool, and the
- 9:47Speaker 3: two of them fight, and if both parties do that,
- 9:50Speaker 3: then if your guy loses, well, clearly God meant for
- 9:53Speaker 3: you to be guilty and you get executed or what
- 9:56Speaker 3: have you?
- 9:57Speaker 1: What the hell, Jim, or even trying out there now?
- 10:00Speaker 1: Empty man, Why don't you keep your left up? You
- 10:04Speaker 1: blew it, Jim, stick and move, stick and move, Jim.
- 10:10Speaker 2: No, I'm guilty.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Now I gotta like stick my hand in a bottle
- 10:13Speaker 1: of boiling water or some some ass.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's it.
