- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the art studio very, very early.
- 0:32And today we're talking about boosters.
- 0:35Now, why am I out here in the art studio very, very early?
- 0:38Well, that is because I needed to really get myself into a good
- 0:43headspace because I was working on writing the blog for
- 0:46February. And one of the things that
- 0:48happens is that when I go to write, sometimes it just falls
- 0:52out of me and it's very effortless.
- 0:53And other times it is arduous and it just depends on the mood
- 0:57I'm in. But one of the things that I
- 0:59recognize as I was working with everybody this week, because
- 1:03we're at the end of January already, it's January 31st and
- 1:08some people are struggling to stay on the path and they're
- 1:12like, it's already falling apart.
- 1:14No, it's not. It's just blips.
- 1:16It's just little blips. But I wanted to enforce the
- 1:21belief system around boosters. So what is a booster?
- 1:25A booster is when you are feeling something and you need
- 1:29to boost yourself out of it. You need to get yourself out of
- 1:32it. Which is why I'm in the art
- 1:34studio. Let me close that loop.
- 1:36So I was stuck. I didn't know what I wanted to
- 1:38talk about. So I just put my boots on, came
- 1:40outside in the pitch dark, went into the studio and said, OK,
- 1:44I'm just going to watercolor for a very short period of time.
- 1:46I'm going to watercolor because that is something that I do to
- 1:50boost my just my imagination, my peace, whatever it is that I
- 1:55want to do. I realize we talk about having
- 1:59these moments and we talk about being mindful in these things,
- 2:01but we also need the boosters and I do them, but I rarely talk
- 2:05about them. So today we're talking about
- 2:08these little boosters. This really works well when you
- 2:12understand your modalities that you operate well in.
- 2:16So let me be very clear. We all are auditory, visual,
- 2:19kinesthetic, We all olfactory, We all have things that are part
- 2:23of our Physiology that we just can't get us, we can't escape.
- 2:27The majority of us are more visual than anything just
- 2:31because we interpret the world that way, but it doesn't mean
- 2:34it's our only thing. Like I'm very, very visual,
- 2:37hyper visual. My husband is hyper auditory.
- 2:40That can create problems sometimes because I'm visual.
- 2:43So I'm big and I'm and he's like, whoa, that's a lot of
- 2:47energy. Bring it down.
- 2:49So when you understand how modalities affect you, like if
- 2:53you remember yesterday's podcast, I talked about how I
- 2:56walked outside and that breath of fresh air shifted me
- 3:00immediately. It brought me somewhere.
- 3:02These are the things we use. So for instance, some people who
- 3:07are listening all already know that they are into essential
- 3:11oils. And those essential oils, you
- 3:14sniff that and it takes you away.
- 3:16That's a booster for you. So do you have a list of
- 3:19boosters for me? OK, visually and tactically, art
- 3:24making art is that taking pictures is a booster.
- 3:28It'll shift my energy, and they're quick and easy.
- 3:31Now, during the day, I can't always go paint, but I can whip
- 3:35out my camera and take a picture.
- 3:37But when you're in your day and you're finding that the day is
- 3:39going down that toilet bowl and everybody's bugging you and you
- 3:44can't do what you want, if you have a quick little set of
- 3:47boosters to help you along the way, you can get back on track,
- 3:51pull yourself out of the muck and mire, switch the driver and
- 3:55and get yourself going. But sometimes it's hard to just
- 3:57switch the driver if there's cognitive overload, which we
- 4:01talked about earlier in the week.
- 4:03So these little boosters break it quickly.
- 4:06So for me, coming out and doing some artwork, yes, that helps.
- 4:12Again, play DoH, big thing for me, it's tactile, plus it's
- 4:15olfactory. It gives me that smell
- 4:18instantaneously. It's a shift big booster for me.
- 4:22So having a warm cup of tea, another big booster and or a
- 4:27coffee, like I have a very big connection to coffee and my dad.
- 4:31So when I really feel like I need to tap into his energy, I
- 4:35will go and I will get a coffee and it has to be in a paper cup
- 4:38with the governor on it because that's what we always did going
- 4:41to Dunkin' Donuts. I just don't go to the Dunkin'
- 4:43Donuts, but I have the coffee. So you see where I'm going with
- 4:47this. It's like a stacking of all
- 4:50these different things that are a quick booster.
- 4:53So if you've never sat down and figured out what yours are,
- 4:57awesome thing to do. Also it helps when you do it in
- 5:01all the different modalities. So mine to be very specific for
- 5:06visual, I can go paint, I can go take a picture, I can go look at
- 5:13pictures. I love looking at pictures.
- 5:15That makes me feel really good. For a sense of smell, it's
- 5:19coffee and it's kinesthetic because when I take it in, it's
- 5:22warm and it's really warming my body.
- 5:24Also for kinesthetic, if I read that's something that's a big
- 5:28deal. Cozy sweatshirts, another big
- 5:30deal. Notice these are all quick
- 5:32things, OK, sense of smell for me.
- 5:35The essential oils are also a big deal, but it can be play
- 5:38DoH. So I have a couple of different
- 5:40ones that I can go to have your list ready, be able to use it
- 5:45and you don't remember there you can do a a group of these
- 5:50overlap them because that works really well.
- 5:53All right, my friends, go get your boosters and I'll see you
- 5:55tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 5:57Bye.
