Speaker 4: Had so much time to much pickleball.
• 1:00
Speaker 6: Pickleball, I've never I've never played, but I would think
• 1:03
Speaker 6: that that would be something I could play a.
• 1:05
Speaker 2: Little bit like I could ever like it because they drink.
• 1:07
Speaker 6: You're making me very nervous with that open bottle of
• 1:09
Speaker 6: soda as you're moving your hand in my hand right,
• 1:12
  Speaker 6: all right.
• 1:17
Speaker 2: There's some people, uh that should not be wearing that
• 1:20
Speaker 2: track so they look like literally they're wearing pajamas. What
• 1:24
Speaker 2: do you like the track?
• 1:25
  Speaker 7: Oh?
• 1:25
Speaker 5: I only have the hoodie. Yeah, I don't have the pants. Right.
• 1:29
Speaker 2: Looking at some of the non players that wear the
• 1:32
Speaker 2: track suit, would you say that it's flattering?
• 1:34
  Speaker 5: I don't think i've ever looked. I didn't like that.
• 1:40
Speaker 5: How there is fund of that?
• 1:41
Speaker 2: Twenty seven? All right, that's it for this edition of Patriots.
• 1:44

• 2:13
Speaker 2: What a week? What a week? I'm excited.
• 2:16
Speaker 6: Did you make it?
• 2:17
Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh I made it?
• 2:18
Speaker 6: Oh good yeah, goodness.
• 2:19
Speaker 2: Yeah you're talking about last week? Yes, I know. Yeah,
• 2:23
Speaker 2: that was big in the newsletter, big topic of the
• 2:26
Speaker 2: news I don't think it was the lead. Yeah, but
• 2:30
Speaker 2: we are here. It is Evan, it is Paul, myself, Deuce, Matt,
• 2:34
Speaker 2: and the booth. We're coming off of victory two out
• 2:36
Speaker 2: of three wins, baby, and I'm looking at the schedule.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: I see more wins on the horizon. These teams, these
• 2:45
Speaker 2: teams are not They're all flawed. They're all flawed. And
• 2:49
Speaker 2: I think the Patriots, except for maybe the Bills game,
• 2:52
Speaker 2: you know, on the road. Yeah, but I think even
• 2:57
Speaker 2: that last game against the Bills, if they're not playing
• 2:59
Speaker 2: for anything, that could be a win.
• 3:00
Speaker 5: At home, that could be playing for the division.
• 3:02
Speaker 2: Again. I was I was listening to I was listening
• 3:08
Speaker 2: to one of Paul's shows this morning, and uh, Courtney
• 3:11
Speaker 2: Cox was saying she could see six and one local local. Uh.
• 3:16
Speaker 6: You know, all the nasty talk shows that are only
• 3:19
Speaker 6: beating up on the Patriots are not saying six and one.
• 3:24
Speaker 2: And if they are six one, they could see Drod
• 3:26
Speaker 2: Mayo Coach of the year.
• 3:28
Speaker 4: What's the one? How things at Buffalo a little bit
• 3:33
  Speaker 4: too much?
• 3:35
Speaker 2: There's a path, boy, a path things of overnight. Overnight
• 3:40
Speaker 2: things have changed. It's unbelievable.
• 3:43
  Speaker 4: Cures everything.
• 3:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, at least for this week.
• 3:46
Speaker 5: It does two games out of the seven seed.
• 3:48
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, three minutes. Another thing I want to bring up, Uh,
• 3:53
Speaker 2: we do miked up every week. This week it was
• 3:56
Speaker 2: Drake may So. Uh, stay tuned on patries dot com
• 3:59
Speaker 2: and YouTube. You'll see that full Drake maked up. But
• 4:02
Speaker 2: before we publish it, the digital team puts together what
• 4:06
Speaker 2: they call an assembly cut and they they I get
• 4:09
Speaker 2: to look at all the stuff that they filmed of Drake,
• 4:12
Speaker 2: and so when you mic somebody up, you have a
• 4:14
Speaker 2: camera that's dedicated to that person. So I saw a
• 4:17
Speaker 2: lot of just Drake May taking the snap, going through
• 4:22
Speaker 2: the play, and what stuck out to me is he's
• 4:25
Speaker 2: pretty calm out there, like he's he looks pretty pretty
• 4:30
Speaker 2: calm throughout every even when the pressure is coming. He
• 4:34
Speaker 2: keeps those eyes downfield, He side steps people. You know,
• 4:37
Speaker 2: he's not freaking out all this talk about like his
• 4:40
Speaker 2: feet go create, his feet are still. We got somebody here,
• 4:45
Speaker 2: We got somebody with a head on his shoulders. Besides
• 4:48
Speaker 2: the physical talents which are apparent, I think we got
• 4:52
Speaker 2: somebody with a pretty good head on his shoulders. And
• 4:55
Speaker 2: then I don't mean to dominate here, but we find out.
• 4:59
Speaker 2: We find out, you know. I think it was from
• 5:03
Speaker 2: whoever was the sideline reporter that Drake asked to address
• 5:07
Speaker 2: the team trust the offense. And I went back and
• 5:13
Speaker 2: and then it occurred to me that on Friday girod
• 5:15
Speaker 2: MEO's press conference, he mentioned that the practices hadn't been
• 5:18
Speaker 2: that great that week. I forget the exact quote, but
• 5:22
Speaker 2: something to the effect of, yeah, you know, things were
• 5:25
Speaker 2: on and off or something along those lines about the
• 5:27
Speaker 2: practices and so now what made sense to me that
• 5:30
Speaker 2: they probably didn't look good in practice, and Drake took
• 5:34
Speaker 2: it on himself to address the offense.
• 5:37
Speaker 5: And you gotta love that.
• 5:39
Speaker 2: You gotta love that, right twenty two year old.
• 5:42
Speaker 6: I like the fact that he recognized that things weren't
• 5:45
Speaker 6: going well. Yeah, like to me, like a quarterback should
• 5:48
Speaker 6: be the leader. I like the fact that at twenty
• 5:50
Speaker 6: two he said, this isn't the way it's supposed to
• 5:53
Speaker 6: look like and he started with himself, yep, you know,
• 5:55
Speaker 6: not handling a snap. I think it was a snap
• 5:57
Speaker 6: that he bobbled. I really liked that. I thought that
• 5:59
Speaker 6: was a good, good sign of maturity for such a
• 6:02
  Speaker 6: young guy.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: Yep. So that's my opening monologue.
• 6:06
Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, a couple of weeks ago, after the
• 6:08
Speaker 5: Titans game, Deavon Gotcha told me in the locker room
• 6:11
Speaker 5: after the game that he was Josh Allen two point zero,
• 6:13
Speaker 5: And I know that that kind of got a little
• 6:15
Speaker 5: bit of run, and some people were saying, all right,
• 6:18
Speaker 5: you know, calm down, right, like, let's sure, let's breathe
• 6:21
Speaker 5: for a second here. But I thought the regardless of
• 6:24
Speaker 5: the camp garrison, uh, the the the more. What I
• 6:28
Speaker 5: took away from it, the bigger point was that they
• 6:31
Speaker 5: have a guy that they believe in at the position
• 6:34
Speaker 5: seeing they can see the talent and they can see
• 6:37
Speaker 5: the future is bright with Drake may. Now that being said,
• 6:42
Speaker 5: I thought this was his worst game out of the
• 6:45
Speaker 5: games that he started so far.
• 6:47
Speaker 6: Strange Bedfellow, it's fair enough.
• 6:50
Speaker 5: So, I mean, it was ironic that this is the
• 6:52
Speaker 5: one that he won a little bit, But in general,
• 6:56
Speaker 5: I just think that the whole team is starting to
• 6:59
Speaker 5: see that they have something here with the young quarterback,
• 7:03
Speaker 5: and that always galvanizes the troops a little bit. And
• 7:06
Speaker 5: I just last thing, I thought after the game, the
• 7:09
Speaker 5: vibes were pretty good in that locker room after the
• 7:12
Speaker 5: game should be you know, they were. They were pretty good,
• 7:15
Speaker 5: and not in like a cocky or over the top way,
• 7:18
Speaker 5: but in a okay, maybe we we got something brewing
• 7:21
Speaker 5: here type of way. So it's exciting.
• 7:23
Speaker 4: Seems like his intangibles are are making center stage the
• 7:26
Speaker 4: last couple of weeks, maybe you know, where the play
• 7:28
Speaker 4: on the field hasn't you know, continued this crazy upper
• 7:31
Speaker 4: trajectory as it. You know, I didn't really expect it to,
• 7:33
Speaker 4: but I think you're seeing him grow into that leadership role.
• 7:36
Speaker 4: And I think you're seeing all the players they just
• 7:38
Speaker 4: believe in him, you know, like they're really starting to.
• 7:40
Speaker 4: And it's not even necessarily the wow plays on the field.
• 7:44
Speaker 4: It's this other stuff that he's really starting to step up.
• 7:46
  Speaker 4: I mean, I think it's a great sign that, I mean,
• 7:48
Speaker 4: what was it five starts in that he's really taking ownership.
• 7:51
Speaker 2: One part of me started Week one.
• 7:53
Speaker 4: Well, one part of me wishes he didn't have to
• 7:54
Speaker 4: be that guy that that that they would already have,
• 8:00
Speaker 4: I know, imagine he didn't just break Yeah, but positive
• 8:06
  Speaker 4: positive developments for.
• 8:07
Speaker 2: Sure, even more than the win. I think that's that's
• 8:11
Speaker 2: something that Patriots fans should be, you know, uh excited about.
• 8:15
Speaker 5: How about your defense though, Deuce.
• 8:18
Speaker 4: I did grind the film because I had to, because
• 8:22
Speaker 4: it was a good performance, I know, and I think
• 8:23
Speaker 4: you abstained from the defensive in the last couple of
• 8:25
Speaker 4: weeks and probably watch it. But I was telling Evan,
• 8:31
Speaker 4: I think the thing I came most impressed with on
• 8:35
Speaker 4: the rewatch was just the coverage. The coverage. Now I
• 8:38
Speaker 4: do want to say, I think Caleb Williams looks out
• 8:41
Speaker 4: of sync right now and he wasn't on time in
• 8:46
Speaker 4: sync with the offense. But that said, I thought that
• 8:49
Speaker 4: the just the coverage was really tight out of the
• 8:51
Speaker 4: gate and just didn't didn't give him a lot of
• 8:54
Speaker 4: obvious throws. I think maybe that's the way to put it.
• 8:56
Speaker 4: It made him maybe question some that probably was open,
• 8:59
Speaker 4: but they were really tight. They handled bunches well, they
• 9:03
Speaker 4: distributed you know, out of those well that can be
• 9:05
Speaker 4: a problem sometimes. I just I just thought the coverage
• 9:08
Speaker 4: was really really good in the back end, and I
• 9:10
Speaker 4: thought that kind of was the spark and then you
• 9:13
Speaker 4: start to get tackles for loss and run stops and
• 9:16
Speaker 4: then the sacks start to come. But for me watching
• 9:19
Speaker 4: it again in context, I felt like, I really the
• 9:21
Speaker 4: coverage was the thing to me that I was really impressible.
• 9:24
Speaker 6: So that just as about the defense in that performance.
• 9:27
Speaker 6: Because Mike came away all about the coverage. I came
• 9:31
Speaker 6: away stunned with how well they played up front with
• 9:33
Speaker 6: not the nine sacks. Is that's different. I thought DeAndre
• 9:37
Speaker 6: Swift would have a big game, you know, you based
• 9:39
Speaker 6: off the last say six eight weeks, I was expecting
• 9:43
Speaker 6: him to hit some some chunk plays. He had the
• 9:45
Speaker 6: fifty yard touchdown against Washington that kind of got them
• 9:48
Speaker 6: back in that game. I was waiting for something like
• 9:50
Speaker 6: that to happen. And I thought the Patriots run defense
• 9:53
Speaker 6: in this game was significantly better than it has been,
• 9:56
  Speaker 6: and I wasn't expecting that. I thought they did a
• 9:58
Speaker 6: great job on the at the line of skimmage on
• 10:02
Speaker 6: both sides of the ball. Really, you know, and I
• 10:04
Speaker 6: understand they beat up on a vastly underman team, but
• 10:08
Speaker 6: this wasn't like Cincinnati that you know, the Bengals kind
• 10:11
Speaker 6: of weren't really there. They didn't have a lot of intensity,
• 10:14
Speaker 6: and it comes down to the last play of the game.
• 10:16
Speaker 6: This game was over. Yeah, I mean, I know it
• 10:18
Speaker 6: was the Patriots, so you didn't necessarily say, well, there's
• 10:20
Speaker 6: no way they can lose this one. But this game
• 10:22
Speaker 6: was kind of over with those those two scores at
• 10:24
Speaker 6: the end of the first half, and the defense just
• 10:27
Speaker 6: never let Chicago breathe. I wasn't expecting that kind of
• 10:30
Speaker 6: effort against Swift, holding into what three three point seven
• 10:35
Speaker 6: to carry or something like that.
• 10:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, gotcha had really.
• 10:37
Speaker 6: Jeremiah farm active. I thought's best game against the run. Yeah,
• 10:42
Speaker 6: I thought I saw him more against the run in
• 10:44
Speaker 6: this game than I have in any other.
• 10:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that front. I mean they were dominating
• 10:48
Speaker 2: both against the run, against the pass edges.
• 10:51
Speaker 6: I thought they fixed that.
• 10:52
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 10:53
Speaker 5: I mean, obviously there's a million caveats with the Bears,
• 10:56
Speaker 5: who just fired their offensive coordinator, were down both starting
• 10:59
Speaker 5: tackles in this game, so there's a lot of caveats.
• 11:02
Speaker 6: They lost first quarter.
• 11:03
Speaker 5: That's sort of why I was on Mike's side of
• 11:06
Speaker 5: the of the street a little bit more. Not that
• 11:07
Speaker 5: anybody played poorly, like everybody played well on the defense
• 11:10
Speaker 5: side of the ball, but it's still more a duneesay.
• 11:13
Speaker 5: Alan Cole Komets a really good receiver, and the Patriots
• 11:18
  Speaker 5: were able to.
• 11:18
Speaker 6: Go out there very impressed with him in that game.
• 11:20
Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, he's a solid tight end and they
• 11:23
Speaker 5: were able to go out there and really go toe
• 11:26
Speaker 5: to toe in man coverage with those receivers and play
• 11:30
Speaker 5: pretty well the entire game.
• 11:32
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 11:32
Speaker 5: You know, I think the offensive line injuries for Chicago
• 11:36
Speaker 5: and this their overall ineptness on offense schematically, probably was
• 11:40
Speaker 5: why some of the things like the pass rush in
• 11:42
  Speaker 5: the run.
• 11:43
Speaker 2: But this is what you want to do to an
• 11:44
Speaker 2: underman team. You want to dominate that.
• 11:46
Speaker 6: That's that was my point. That was my point about Cincinnati.
• 11:49
Speaker 6: Yeah they you know they they outplayed Cincinnati for sixty
• 11:52
Speaker 6: minutes and the game still came down to the last play.
• 11:55
Speaker 6: This game, I thought they all played Chicago for sixty
• 11:58
Speaker 6: minutes and the game was over at halftime?
• 12:00
  Speaker 2: Was there not?
• 12:01
Speaker 6: People were asking no, no, no. I saw the calls
• 12:05
Speaker 6: for the NOD online.
• 12:06
  Speaker 2: I got I respectfully declined for obvious reasons. I haven't
• 12:11
Speaker 2: earned the NOD yet.
• 12:12
Speaker 5: Once it was once it got to you know, the
• 12:16
Speaker 5: law again of the second half was kind of it. Uh.
• 12:20
Speaker 5: And when in retrospect, I think all of us watch
• 12:23
Speaker 5: these games right now and are are like, wells been
• 12:26
Speaker 5: hit his seventy Yeah, but I just, you know, shout
• 12:30
Speaker 5: out to Jelani Tavai too. I think he played outstanding
• 12:33
Speaker 5: in this game. On the Dad strength.
• 12:35
Speaker 4: He suddenly got dad strength.
• 12:36
Speaker 6: That's what I was gonna say.
• 12:38
Speaker 5: This was his best game of the year. Uh, multitude
• 12:40
Speaker 5: of roles. I thought. The very first run of the game, Uh,
• 12:44
Speaker 5: the guard comes up to Di Vi and Divie goes
• 12:46
Speaker 5: right into him. Thuds him right at the line of scrimmage,
• 12:50
Speaker 5: and that is what's been missing without Juwan Bentley, is
• 12:53
Speaker 5: that second level that defense really compressing the space for
• 12:57
Speaker 5: the backs and maybe having Taki Taki next to him
• 13:01
Speaker 5: makes him a little bit more comfortable, h than it
• 13:03
Speaker 5: was when it was McMillan or Ellis or whatever. So, uh,
• 13:07
Speaker 5: to Takie Talkie is a guy that can play in
• 13:09
Speaker 5: this league and it can hold his own. So I
• 13:11
Speaker 5: thought TVA was was excellent, and uh, you know, obviously
• 13:14
Speaker 5: the Schooler wrinkle was fantastic.
• 13:17
Speaker 2: You Mentionedwon McMillan. Interesting that they released him to make
• 13:20
Speaker 2: room for the signing and doc Way, but that tells
• 13:24
Speaker 2: you something about maybe what he wasn't doing out there,
• 13:29
  Speaker 2: you know.
• 13:29
Speaker 4: I mean I was critical of him. I was really
• 13:32
Speaker 4: critical of him. I mean, you guys know, I still
• 13:34
Speaker 4: found it surprising just because he was a guy that
• 13:37
Speaker 4: they've seemed to really like. I mean, the guy who
• 13:39
Speaker 4: literally missed two seasons and they still re signed him
• 13:41
Speaker 4: because they seem to, you know, see something in him.
• 13:44
Speaker 4: And now he gets a chance to really play a lot.
• 13:46
Speaker 4: And then I mean, even there we go lurking twelve
• 13:51
  Speaker 4: and twelve.
• 13:52
Speaker 2: Place we're looking at the TV. NFL network has the
• 13:56
Speaker 2: playoffs picture in the AFC and the twelfth spot right
• 14:00
Speaker 2: now lurking is the Patriots at three and seven, So
• 14:03
Speaker 2: there are literally two games out of the.
• 14:06
Speaker 6: I look forward to the path math at two from
• 14:08
Speaker 6: from two to six.
• 14:09
Speaker 2: All let's go, let's go. Who cares about the draft,
• 14:14
Speaker 2: Let's win football games. Oh.
• 14:17
Speaker 6: I would absolutely like to win football. Absolutely, it's not
• 14:19
Speaker 6: that's not the path math question.
• 14:21
Speaker 2: No, I know, but like the games, you know what
• 14:25
Speaker 2: they doing screwing up? Not who cares?
• 14:27
Speaker 6: Nobody says that if you, if you.
• 14:30
  Speaker 2: Let's let's just say let's let's let's just get crazy
• 14:33
Speaker 2: and let's just say they do start rattling off wins.
• 14:36
Speaker 2: Isn't that so much better for the evan?
• 14:38
Speaker 6: Don't you like to see them win.
• 14:40
Speaker 2: Than to be looking for the culture? No, but there
• 14:44
  Speaker 2: are people, Paul.
• 14:46
Speaker 6: Trust me, you don't want to be one of those.
• 14:47
Speaker 6: You don't want to be.
• 14:49
Speaker 5: Well, now they have the seventh picks of who are
• 14:51
Speaker 5: you taking? I'm like, let's worry about that and about that.
• 14:56
Speaker 2: Let's let's stack some wins here and trust Mike. Trust Mike.
• 15:01
Speaker 6: You don't want to be one of those teams.
• 15:03
Speaker 4: I mean, I think the thing I like though, I mean,
• 15:05
Speaker 4: like we can. I don't know if they're gonna go
• 15:07
Speaker 4: on that run, but they're playing a lot of teams
• 15:09
Speaker 4: that are still trying to be competitive, probably are still
• 15:12
Speaker 4: in races. I mean, the Rams are kind of hanging
• 15:14
Speaker 4: on by a thread, but I mean the Bills, the Cardinals,
• 15:17
Speaker 4: the Chargers, you know, the Colts a little bit, but
• 15:19
Speaker 4: they're kind of fading a little bit. But they're all
• 15:21
Speaker 4: teams that you know are going to con ahead.
• 15:23
Speaker 2: Of you, ahead of you.
• 15:25
Speaker 5: Yeah, I would push back a little bit on the schedule.
• 15:28
Speaker 5: Schedule easy. Schedule has been super easy top I'm just
• 15:35
Speaker 5: hearing that a lot. That's like the schedule statistically, they
• 15:38
Speaker 5: have like a bottom ten schedule the rest of the way,
• 15:41
Speaker 5: playing a lot of really good defense.
• 15:42
Speaker 6: The last four games on paper, who knows, but the
• 15:46
Speaker 6: last four games on paper, you know, the Arizona Buffalo
• 15:50
Speaker 6: twice and the Chargers.
• 15:51
  Speaker 2: Yeah, Chargers defenses.
• 15:53
Speaker 4: And the point I was trying to make is like
• 15:55
Speaker 4: I want to see them play good teams. I want
• 15:56
Speaker 4: to see them if they're realistically going to make a
• 15:58
Speaker 4: push beat some good teams. You know, these are good
• 16:01
Speaker 4: teams and I think you'll learn more.
• 16:02
Speaker 6: That was kind of a joke.
• 16:05
  Speaker 3: Doing this.
• 16:06
Speaker 2: We're doing the push talk.
• 16:09
Speaker 5: No, but just one more thing about the defense because
• 16:12
Speaker 5: they deserve it. Today. I would just say that the
• 16:16
Speaker 5: schooler wrinkle is one of my favorite things that were
• 16:19
Speaker 5: going on and in years, like I can't remember the
• 16:22
Speaker 5: last time where I came out of a game and
• 16:24
Speaker 5: was like and that was actually awesome, Like that was.
• 16:27
Speaker 2: It was so good because he's out there and he
• 16:30
Speaker 2: sees the play developed and as soon as he saw
• 16:33
Speaker 2: Caleb looked the other way and see that space, he
• 16:36
Speaker 2: just went, no no hesitation, he just went and paid off.
• 16:40
Speaker 5: It was unbelievable how good he was at it, having
• 16:43
Speaker 5: never done it before at really any level. He said
• 16:46
Speaker 5: of football, he had never really done that before, and
• 16:49
Speaker 5: he was seamless coach doing it. I would say it's
• 16:53
Speaker 5: one of the best time.
• 16:56
Speaker 6: I would say that the coordinators on both sides of
• 16:59
Speaker 6: the ball, and Gerrod called them both out after the game,
• 17:02
Speaker 6: I would agree that they had some stuff in this
• 17:04
Speaker 6: game that really worked.
• 17:06
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 17:06
Speaker 6: Really, I mean, it wasn't just one of the mill stuff.
• 17:09
Speaker 6: And I know we're going to overrate a lot of
• 17:11
Speaker 6: these individual things. But I thought their plan on both
• 17:13
Speaker 6: sides of the ball was really good this week.
• 17:15
Speaker 4: Ye executed you know a little bit of semblance of
• 17:19
Speaker 4: run game and now it's just can you carry that
• 17:22
Speaker 4: momentum last week? He said, you took a step back,
• 17:24
Speaker 4: and you continue to build here through these last seven games.
• 17:26
Speaker 4: But will be tough.
• 17:28
Speaker 2: It'll be a tough game the Rams. They didn't Both
• 17:30
Speaker 2: teams didn't look that great last night. But you know,
• 17:33
Speaker 2: the Rams should be scoring more than fifteen points a
• 17:35
Speaker 2: game with that talent. I don't know what's going on
• 17:37
  Speaker 2: with them, but.
• 17:39
Speaker 6: You go zero for three in the red zone and
• 17:41
Speaker 6: three to twelve on third down.
• 17:42
Speaker 2: And mistakes making mistakes.
• 17:44
Speaker 6: No, but I mean you move the ball into scoring
• 17:46
Speaker 6: territory all night and didn't score when you got there. Yeah,
• 17:49
Speaker 6: that's how you only score fifteen So five field goals
• 17:53
Speaker 6: if you get you know, three touchdowns and two field goals,
• 17:56
Speaker 6: that's what you normally.
• 17:56
Speaker 2: Se So despite the performance last night, I think it's
• 17:59
Speaker 2: going to be a tough game. Oh for the defense, Yeah,
• 18:04
Speaker 2: I think it will be too.
• 18:07
Speaker 6: What like we're now saying no, but I mean, look,
• 18:11
Speaker 6: don't be deceived by what you saw in the Rams
• 18:13
Speaker 6: this will be a tough game for the people.
• 18:15
Speaker 2: Well people, Oh, look at the Rams. They're you know,
• 18:18
Speaker 2: they're not as good as everyone thinks they are. They are, Well,
• 18:24
Speaker 2: it's your people, Paul.
• 18:25
Speaker 6: Play comparison to the Patriots is all I'm talking. Yes,
• 18:28
Speaker 6: you're you're right. I know that that mean nasty talk
• 18:31
Speaker 6: radio thinks they're gonna go six and one down the stretch.
• 18:35
Speaker 6: I know there's a lot of meanies here in Boston.
• 18:37
Speaker 6: They're always beating up on the teams.
• 18:39
Speaker 5: I grinded the Rams offense tape this morning against the
• 18:45
Speaker 5: Dolphins defense, and it did seem like McDaniel kind of
• 18:48
Speaker 5: had the codes to mcveigh's offense. You know, that's one
• 18:51
Speaker 5: of his buddies right in the coaching world. And my
• 18:54
Speaker 5: guess is that there was some some things going on
• 18:57
Speaker 5: that McDaniel anticipated what happened. And I just wonder if
• 19:01
Speaker 5: you watch that tape, if you're the Patriots, if you
• 19:03
Speaker 5: can mimic some of the things that the Dolphins were
• 19:05
Speaker 5: able to do to shut down some of the Rams
• 19:08
Speaker 5: core concepts. I thought they they played coverage really well,
• 19:11
Speaker 5: Miami did, and some of it was like oh wow,
• 19:14
Speaker 5: like they they just knew it. Was coming, right, they
• 19:16
Speaker 5: knew they knew this play call was coming, and they
• 19:18
Speaker 5: had it perfectly covered. So maybe the Patriots can look
• 19:21
Speaker 5: at that a little bit.
• 19:22
Speaker 6: I watched some of the highlights of the game. I
• 19:23
Speaker 6: didn't see the game I've but from what I saw
• 19:27
Speaker 6: in some of the replays, my guy did not play
• 19:30
Speaker 6: very well in big spots.
• 19:32
Speaker 2: You know what Stafford. I thought he had touchdown. I
• 19:36
Speaker 2: thought that he was like probably one of the lone
• 19:39
Speaker 2: bright spots actually on that team.
• 19:40
Speaker 6: Well you know, see that's when when you don't watch
• 19:43
Speaker 6: the game and you just see the highlights that can happen,
• 19:45
Speaker 6: and I may have missed.
• 19:46
Speaker 2: Like like, yeah, he was he overthrew on a couple
• 19:49
Speaker 2: of passes, but that teams was just making mistakes left
• 19:52
Speaker 2: and right around him.
• 19:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, the offensive line struggled and they didn't like have
• 19:55
Speaker 5: a great plan for pressure. I don't think they were
• 19:58
Speaker 5: expecting as much pressure as they got. And uh, like
• 20:01
Speaker 5: I said, like, you know, they're running hots and and
• 20:03
Speaker 5: the Dolphins just like knew exactly where the hot would be, right,
• 20:07
Speaker 5: Like they kind of just knew the scheme and knew
• 20:09
Speaker 5: knew the situation. So I look at that and I
• 20:13
Speaker 5: don't think it was necessarily Stafford per se. I think
• 20:15
Speaker 5: it was more the scheme got taken down last night
• 20:18
  Speaker 5: a little bit.
• 20:19
Speaker 2: And but both teams were not playing well. It wasn't
• 20:21
Speaker 2: good football, it really wasn't. But it was see, so
• 20:25
Speaker 2: we get both these teams back to back. Going down
• 20:28
Speaker 2: to Miami is always tough.
• 20:31
Speaker 6: I don't be deceived that that will be There's.
• 20:33
Speaker 2: Still a decent one.
• 20:35
Speaker 4: That's one of the six, right.
• 20:36
Speaker 6: That will be a tough that's Mike. Don't just pencil
• 20:38
Speaker 6: that one is a win, right that one? That one
• 20:40
  Speaker 6: will be tough.
• 20:41
  Speaker 4: It's a tough one.
• 20:42
  Speaker 2: Love it.
• 20:43
Speaker 6: Washington to Tyler Huntley a half ago.
• 20:46
Speaker 2: All right, we're the other team, the other quarterback, other quarter.
• 20:49
Speaker 6: They're a different team, is right.
• 20:52
Speaker 2: Well, people get them, all right, But I mean you
• 20:56
Speaker 2: look at you look at the schedule. There's some winnable
• 20:58
Speaker 2: games there. I could see them. I could see them
• 21:01
Speaker 2: ending with, you know, six wins this season, which is
• 21:05
Speaker 2: funny because that's what I thought their ceiling was going
• 21:08
Speaker 2: into the season. And if that happens, then you know,
• 21:14
Speaker 2: I'm excited for you know, twenty twenty five. Make some
• 21:18
Speaker 2: good draft picks, some good moves, get a lot of
• 21:21
  Speaker 2: money to spend.
• 21:22
Speaker 6: Used to say, make a couple of moves, will be
• 21:24
  Speaker 6: right back.
• 21:24
Speaker 2: An burnt some money.
• 21:27
Speaker 5: We got the kidd schedule, like not in a good way.
• 21:31
Speaker 5: So they have one of the hardest remaining schedules in
• 21:33
Speaker 5: the least bring it on, but all the more. But
• 21:36
Speaker 5: I've heard there's some winnable. I don't know the Colts winnable.
• 21:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, I mean, yeah, he's hit the wall.
• 21:47
Speaker 6: I'll wait for the rest.
• 21:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, wait for the rest. Okay, well, but it's fair enough.
• 21:54
Speaker 2: But I think we have a whole new outlook.
• 21:56
Speaker 6: And I'm not telling you that they can't win any other.
• 21:58
  Speaker 5: I hear you.
• 21:59
Speaker 6: Upsets happen, Like, I'm not telling you that they're not going.
• 22:02
Speaker 2: To win any probably going to be the dogs in
• 22:04
Speaker 2: most The Colts game is a game to me of
• 22:07
Speaker 2: you know, kind of they might be favored, similar to
• 22:10
Speaker 2: they could be, Yeah, they could be, but like.
• 22:13
Speaker 4: It might be back at Anthony Richardson by that point.
• 22:15
Speaker 6: Like the Rams just you know, stacking up player for players.
• 22:19
Speaker 2: Oh god, yeah, yeah, you.
• 22:21
Speaker 6: Have to pull an upset some day. Absolutely, probably gonna
• 22:23
  Speaker 6: need some help.
• 22:24
Speaker 2: I think every game going forward, except for the Colts,
• 22:27
Speaker 2: the Patriots will probably be dogs.
• 22:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think saying five or six wins you would
• 22:33
Speaker 5: hope is probably real. I mean, you win one of
• 22:36
Speaker 5: the games you should win, like the Colts, and then
• 22:39
Speaker 5: you know, maybe you steal a game at some point
• 22:41
Speaker 5: down the stretch too, and you get to five instead
• 22:43
  Speaker 5: of four?
• 22:44
  Speaker 2: Yep?
• 22:45
Speaker 4: Does that have value? To get to five? Progress to
• 22:47
Speaker 4: improve from last year? Like? Is that a little bit?
• 22:50
  Speaker 6: I mean, that's a big felgarism, don't. I don't care
• 22:52
Speaker 6: as much about that as how they play, Like I
• 22:54
Speaker 6: would like to see them play some good football games
• 22:58
Speaker 6: down the stretch and let the Chips follow. Do I
• 23:00
Speaker 6: want to win them? Of course I do want them again,
• 23:03
Speaker 6: I know Mike taught me this, Like you you know,
• 23:05
Speaker 6: winnings better than losing, get it. Yeah, But I'd like
• 23:12
Speaker 6: to see the offense sort of. I'd like to established
• 23:16
Speaker 6: we'll move the ball on score points. I know those
• 23:18
Speaker 6: are two things that I say all the time, and
• 23:20
Speaker 6: they really haven't done that on a consistent basis. It's
• 23:24
Speaker 6: a little better with may that. I think they're like
• 23:26
Speaker 6: a field goal better, maybe like twenty yards better. But
• 23:29
  Speaker 6: it's not good right, and it's and I think it's
• 23:32
Speaker 6: this like, I think it can be there. I think
• 23:34
Speaker 6: it's close, if that makes anything.
• 23:37
Speaker 2: That's where the offense breaks out. But the problem is
• 23:42
Speaker 2: this receiving room. It's it's iffy at best. You know,
• 23:47
Speaker 2: Like what was the deal with Bourne not playing? It's
• 23:50
Speaker 2: another one, Like it's.
• 23:51
Speaker 5: Kind of weird, right, So yeah, I I had seen
• 23:55
Speaker 5: on film and that you know, I don't know what
• 23:58
Speaker 5: they're being coached, so I tried not to do this,
• 24:00
Speaker 5: but I don't always think that he knows what he's doing.
• 24:03
Speaker 5: And he missed all of training camp and he missed
• 24:05
Speaker 5: the entire offseason because of the ACL. So you just wonder,
• 24:09
Speaker 5: you know, new system, new offensive coordinator, Like what is
• 24:12
Speaker 5: his level of grasping the playbook right now compared to
• 24:16
Speaker 5: a guy like kJ Osborne who has been here since
• 24:18
Speaker 5: day one and practicing since day one. At some point
• 24:22
Speaker 5: you might need Bourne's just ability over kJ Osborne and
• 24:25
Speaker 5: you live with the mental errors. But you do see
• 24:29
  Speaker 5: quite a bit. I mean, there was a play a
• 24:30
Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago where Hunter Henry's like pointing mid play,
• 24:34
Speaker 5: being like you're supposed to go this way, dude, and like,
• 24:37
Speaker 5: you know, Kendrick Bourne's kind of just like you know,
• 24:40
Speaker 5: palms up. Yes, I think some of it might be
• 24:44
Speaker 5: about more the mental side of things right now.
• 24:47
  Speaker 2: That makes sense.
• 24:48
Speaker 6: I would just go with one of the younger guys then.
• 24:50
Speaker 2: Like that's what they did, well, they did.
• 24:52
Speaker 6: They went with kJ Osky. Yeah, Osbourne got Bourne's reps,
• 24:56
Speaker 6: and I would rather Baker or Taekwon Thornton, someone who
• 25:01
Speaker 6: the final book hasn't been written on yet.
• 25:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, Baker for sure.
• 25:05
Speaker 6: Like I don't think Osborne is going to be here
• 25:06
Speaker 6: next year, right and I'm not even sure he's gonna
• 25:09
Speaker 6: make it all the way through the season. So it
• 25:12
Speaker 6: didn't make a lot of sense to me. The reasons
• 25:14
Speaker 6: that Evan said, those all individually makes sense to me.
• 25:17
Speaker 6: Why Bourne didn't play, Yeah, that doesn't make sense to
• 25:20
Speaker 6: me why Osborne did.
• 25:22
Speaker 2: Probably other reasons about tykon Thornton and Baker or that
• 25:25
Speaker 2: we don't know either. But you know, but I'm just
• 25:29
Speaker 2: saying that in order to what happened in Chicago. No,
• 25:32
Speaker 2: but I'm just saying it. I'm hoping for that one
• 25:34
Speaker 2: game where the offense breaks out. But other than Remandre
• 25:38
Speaker 2: and you know, maybe Gibson in in May, I don't
• 25:44
Speaker 2: know if there's the talent there to do it.
• 25:45
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not you know, I'm realistic. I'm not expecting
• 25:49
Speaker 6: them to put a fifty burger up without like seven
• 25:51
Speaker 6: turnovers or anything like that. But I think there's a
• 25:54
Speaker 6: semblance of offense that's starting to develop where it doesn't
• 25:58
Speaker 6: look like it used to be the last three years,
• 26:01
Speaker 6: Like okay, first down holding call, Okay, where's the punter?
• 26:06
  Speaker 2: Right now?
• 26:06
Speaker 6: I don't feel like that anymore. I feel like they
• 26:09
Speaker 6: can overcome. Do you know a little bit less than perfect?
• 26:12
Speaker 2: Do we think the line did? Because they they started
• 26:15
Speaker 2: that the line was what it ended with last week,
• 26:18
Speaker 2: and it was the same line as the Jets game, right,
• 26:21
Speaker 2: so they went back to that. How do we think
• 26:23
  Speaker 2: it did?
• 26:24
Speaker 5: Passable? Yeah, thirty seven, thirty eight percent pressure rate. They
• 26:28
Speaker 5: ran the ball a little bit, so definitely functional. I
• 26:33
Speaker 5: would look at the personnel that they have and say
• 26:35
Speaker 5: that this is the best you can expect, Like, I
• 26:37
Speaker 5: don't think you can really expect them to be, especially
• 26:40
Speaker 5: against teams that have some pass rushers like the Bears do,
• 26:43
Speaker 5: to be much better than what they did on Sunday.
• 26:46
Speaker 5: And I would also say I don't think you can
• 26:48
Speaker 5: expect the play calling to be all that much better.
• 26:51
  Speaker 2: Than it was.
• 26:51
Speaker 6: Agree that they did some good things, yeah, on both side.
• 26:54
Speaker 5: I mean, I think some of the things, some of
• 26:57
Speaker 5: their big plays were busts by Chicago on that side
• 27:00
Speaker 5: of the ball, So I'd take those with a grain
• 27:02
Speaker 5: assault like those aren't necessarily Paul's thing, like repeatable plays
• 27:06
Speaker 5: that you can do week in and week out, like
• 27:08
Speaker 5: when the team doesn't cover Austin Hooper on a cross
• 27:10
Speaker 5: or he like, that's not going to happen every single week,
• 27:13
Speaker 5: that he's going to be wide open. But I thought
• 27:15
Speaker 5: that they did enough schematically and on the offensive line
• 27:19
Speaker 5: that really I felt like Drake played bad. So if
• 27:22
Speaker 5: he can play better, I'm thought, sure, they will.
• 27:25
Speaker 6: Kind of created some of the pressure you think, So
• 27:27
  Speaker 6: that's why I mean, I didn't think the line was
• 27:29
Speaker 6: awesome or anything. I thought they were okay. But I
• 27:31
Speaker 6: thought early Mike and I were commenting that both quarterbacks
• 27:35
Speaker 6: early in the game didn't look like they were seeing
• 27:37
Speaker 6: the field very well. I thought Drake was kind of
• 27:40
Speaker 6: running around a little bit, yep, And I think he
• 27:43
Speaker 6: in his defense, I think he settled down a little bit.
• 27:45
Speaker 6: You got that touchdown drive and then the reason why
• 27:49
Speaker 6: I was so excited about sort of the coordination, like
• 27:51
Speaker 6: some of the things that we saw. Finally, the last
• 27:55
Speaker 6: you know, the last drive, the two minute drill at
• 27:57
Speaker 6: the end of the half. You know, obviously they get
• 27:59
Speaker 6: a huge boost by Marcus Jones punt return that sets
• 28:02
Speaker 6: him up at the forty yard line, you basically in
• 28:04
Speaker 6: field goal range when you take over. But they really
• 28:07
Speaker 6: executed it well. You know, they didn't have a whole
• 28:10
Speaker 6: lot of time to spare. They get the play downfield
• 28:12
Speaker 6: to Booty, everybody's on the same page. They get up
• 28:16
Speaker 6: and they they were able to spike the ball. Yeah,
• 28:19
Speaker 6: I know that was like routine for everybody else. What
• 28:22
Speaker 6: happened at the end of the first half happens in
• 28:23
Speaker 6: every single NFL game, Yeah, but it hasn't happened for
• 28:26
Speaker 6: Patriots games in a year and a half. So I
• 28:31
Speaker 6: was excited about that.
• 28:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, it helps when you have a quarterback that makes
• 28:34
Speaker 5: a throw like that. I mean that that throw to
• 28:36
Speaker 5: Booty is special, Like you don't have every guy that
• 28:39
Speaker 5: can make that type of throw, but now that they
• 28:41
Speaker 5: do have a guy like that. But you know, early
• 28:43
Speaker 5: on in this game, I thought the first five of
• 28:46
Speaker 5: seven dropbacks were minus plays. You know he was. He
• 28:49
Speaker 5: was swimming in in a little bit, was taking off early,
• 28:52
Speaker 5: you know, leaving pockets prematurely. Things like that.
• 28:55
Speaker 6: We were on it. Evan's with us. Yeah, you're with
• 28:58
  Speaker 6: us now.
• 28:59
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 28:59
Speaker 5: The third down run that he had where he got
• 29:01
Speaker 5: stopped short, He's got two open receivers on that play,
• 29:04
Speaker 5: Like you just got to stay in the pocket and
• 29:05
Speaker 5: play quarterback and make a throw he had Hunter Henry,
• 29:09
Speaker 5: I think for a touchdown if he stays in the
• 29:10
Speaker 5: pocket on that one.
• 29:12
  Speaker 6: So I can't see that.
• 29:14
Speaker 5: Those are the ones that you know, you look at
• 29:16
Speaker 5: and you say, okay, we you know, we need to
• 29:18
Speaker 5: eliminate that. Like when they open a gap on the
• 29:20
Speaker 5: line of scrimmage, it's like he can't help himself but
• 29:23
Speaker 5: to take off running, you know, he just it's his
• 29:25
Speaker 5: instinct and he just goes ahead and does it. But
• 29:28
Speaker 5: if they can get him to settle down a little bit,
• 29:30
Speaker 5: I feel like early on in games besides maybe against Jacksonville,
• 29:34
Speaker 5: this seems to be a theme with him where it's
• 29:36
Speaker 5: kind of a feeling out process. So if they can
• 29:38
Speaker 5: get him to settle down a little bit in terms
• 29:40
Speaker 5: of that, then it'll be okay. And then obviously, the
• 29:42
Speaker 5: interceptions he entered was was you know what it was?
• 29:45
  Speaker 2: So he said, I don't believe him. I don't know.
• 29:49
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So that was that was that was
• 29:53
Speaker 6: Zach Wilson. I was trying to throw it.
• 29:55
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 29:55
Speaker 5: So that was one of the five out of the
• 29:57
Speaker 5: first seven dropbacks that obviously. So once he got past that,
• 30:02
Speaker 5: it settled down a little bit. And then the throat
• 30:04
Speaker 5: to Booty is just you can put that on a
• 30:06
Speaker 5: on a highlight reel. You know, what did you what
• 30:08
  Speaker 5: did you.
• 30:08
Speaker 4: Think of the red zone those? I was thinking of
• 30:10
Speaker 4: Fred looking for the breakout game. I mean, they had
• 30:12
Speaker 4: they were down there a bunch, they just couldn't score touchdowns.
• 30:15
Speaker 4: I mean maybe that's one of the keys to get
• 30:16
Speaker 4: in that step to what was saying.
• 30:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, the throw to Henry was another turnover worthy play,
• 30:21
Speaker 5: like he's late and behind his feet, weren't great on it,
• 30:24
Speaker 5: Like that's just not a good play. You know, I
• 30:26
Speaker 5: think it was it needed to be a really good pass,
• 30:29
Speaker 5: but I think a really good pass probably wins there,
• 30:33
Speaker 5: and it just wasn't. So I had to be super
• 30:36
Speaker 5: critical of him, but I just you know, there were
• 30:38
  Speaker 5: good plays.
• 30:38
Speaker 6: I'll take you off the hook. So in the post
• 30:42
Speaker 6: in the postgame show, I actually had him on the
• 30:44
Speaker 6: bad list, And when we were done talking about it,
• 30:47
Speaker 6: you know, I think we went to a break and
• 30:49
Speaker 6: I looked at Mic I go, oh, I'm going to
• 30:52
Speaker 6: hear about this one. I'm going to get beat up
• 30:54
Speaker 6: on for this one. And I was kind of in
• 30:57
Speaker 6: my mind, I was regretting, you know, maybe I should
• 30:59
Speaker 6: just put him on no list. But I think and
• 31:05
Speaker 6: what I'm trying to do is I'm not trying to
• 31:08
Speaker 6: treat him like a rookie. I'm trying to treat him
• 31:10
Speaker 6: like an NFL quarterback. And I'm also basing it on
• 31:12
Speaker 6: what I've seen in the other games. I didn't think
• 31:15
Speaker 6: he was quite as good in this game as he
• 31:16
Speaker 6: has been, even though he didn't turn it over three
• 31:19
Speaker 6: times the way he did in two of the other games.
• 31:22
Speaker 6: I thought he made more, as Evan likes to say,
• 31:24
Speaker 6: Evan and Greg, you guys, more plus plays in some
• 31:29
Speaker 6: of the other games than we saw in this one.
• 31:30
Speaker 5: This is the fewest plus plays I had for him.
• 31:33
Speaker 2: Do you think the wind was on his mind because
• 31:35
Speaker 2: it was Wendy down there.
• 31:37
Speaker 5: It could have been. It could have been. But he
• 31:39
Speaker 5: also made some really nice downfield through this, so I
• 31:42
Speaker 5: think to me, it was more about decision making, Like
• 31:44
Speaker 5: he left two pockets early. I thought a third down
• 31:47
Speaker 5: throw to Pop Douglas over the middle of the field,
• 31:50
Speaker 5: you know, Pop sat. I was about to bring that up.
• 31:54
Speaker 5: You know, Pop sat because it was zone. So he
• 31:56
Speaker 5: sat in the zone and Drake was leading him right
• 31:58
Speaker 5: into Tremaine Edmonds. And as soon as it went off
• 32:01
Speaker 5: Pop's hands, he looked just like Paul just said and said,
• 32:04
  Speaker 5: settled down.
• 32:04
Speaker 6: I think you're saying I'm supposed to see yeah.
• 32:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. So you know, there was just some little
• 32:10
Speaker 5: things there about reading the field, decision making that wasn't
• 32:14
Speaker 5: as sharp as it was in some of the other games.
• 32:17
Speaker 5: But then, like I keep saying, he still sees the throws.
• 32:19
Speaker 5: You know, the throw to Hooper is a great throw
• 32:21
Speaker 5: on the corner route. Throw to Booty, the nineteen yard scream,
• 32:25
Speaker 5: I thought was a good play, just kind of pulling
• 32:27
Speaker 5: a play out of nowhere on a covered route.
• 32:30
Speaker 6: I just wish that when he did that, and I
• 32:32
Speaker 6: don't want to take that away from him. I know
• 32:33
Speaker 6: that's a big part of his arsenal, but I just
• 32:35
Speaker 6: don't like the way he runs like once he once,
• 32:38
Speaker 6: he gets it, Like he doesn't do much to protect himself,
• 32:42
Speaker 6: and I worry, fred I wonry about him. Yeah, no,
• 32:45
Speaker 6: I just like protecting the ball, protecting himself. There was
• 32:48
Speaker 6: one he's sort of in between slides a lot, you know,
• 32:50
Speaker 6: my running my slide.
• 32:52
  Speaker 3: I know.
• 32:52
Speaker 6: Mike made a really good point too about the slides,
• 32:55
Speaker 6: like like, think about that's that nineteen yard run right, Well,
• 32:59
Speaker 6: they ended up getting like two hits on him, two
• 33:01
Speaker 6: good hits, and Mike is like, if you just make
• 33:05
Speaker 6: it a seventeen yard running, you slide. It's like doubly
• 33:07
Speaker 6: frustrating for the defense. Like he makes the play, he
• 33:10
Speaker 6: moves the chains and I didn't even get a shot
• 33:12
Speaker 6: at it. He gets up and just you know, like
• 33:16
Speaker 6: at least you get a lick on him, and you know,
• 33:19
Speaker 6: so again this is something I'm starting to like. The
• 33:22
Speaker 6: bar is getting raised because he's pure playing.
• 33:25
Speaker 2: Really well, so taking off the training wheels.
• 33:27
Speaker 6: Like the first game he runs for nineteen yards and
• 33:30
Speaker 6: we're like, whoa, this is a party. You know, you're
• 33:32
Speaker 6: not necessarily well he'll learn to slip. Well, he's got
• 33:35
  Speaker 6: to learn.
• 33:36
Speaker 2: I think there are times and there was one play
• 33:40
Speaker 2: where I think this came into play. Where you're going down,
• 33:44
Speaker 2: if you haven't already slid, and there's a lot of
• 33:48
Speaker 2: guys around you, you're better off just lowering your shoulder
• 33:50
Speaker 2: and being the hammer, because when you slide with that
• 33:53
Speaker 2: many people around you, what's exposed is your head and
• 33:58
Speaker 2: that's where you're gonna get hit. So you're better off
• 34:00
Speaker 2: just put your shoulder into a guy and going down
• 34:03
Speaker 2: and being the hammer and not the nail.
• 34:05
Speaker 5: I do wonder if the concussions in his head a
• 34:07
Speaker 5: little bit in terms of like I slid and then
• 34:10
Speaker 5: I got hit in the head and then I got
• 34:12
Speaker 5: pulled out of a game. But the sliding, I agree
• 34:15
Speaker 5: with you guys that it's something that he needs to
• 34:17
Speaker 5: do a little bit better. But to me, like the
• 34:20
Speaker 5: interception just can't happen. Yeah, It's like if he throws
• 34:24
Speaker 5: a pick like he did in against Houston where he
• 34:26
Speaker 5: just airmails the crosser and it's just a bad throw,
• 34:29
Speaker 5: like that happens like it was the right read. It
• 34:31
Speaker 5: was just a bad throw. You know, I'm cool with it,
• 34:33
Speaker 5: but you can't you can't be having, sorry, the mac
• 34:36
Speaker 5: Jones interceptions right like the one there or the one
• 34:40
Speaker 5: you know in Tennessee on third down where he just
• 34:42
Speaker 5: throws it right to the linebacker, like those are the
• 34:45
Speaker 5: safety Excuse me, like you just can't have those types
• 34:47
Speaker 5: of plays, like those are the ones they have to eliminate.
• 34:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, eight five to five past five hundred.
• 34:52
Speaker 2: Is the tpx houtline, web radio at pages dot com?
• 34:56
Speaker 2: Is the email address? Anything else before we open it up?
• 35:00
Speaker 6: No, No, let's celebrate. We've had enough therapy tuesdays.
• 35:05
Speaker 2: Let's celebrate and whatever.
• 35:06
Speaker 5: I have some other downs, we know, because I have
• 35:08
Speaker 5: to be be negative.
• 35:10
Speaker 2: But let's open it up in LA with Chad. What's up? Chad?
• 35:16
Speaker 8: Hey, guys, I'm super stoked about the win.
• 35:20
Speaker 9: My question is a you know, basically about the game,
• 35:23
Speaker 9: like you kind of answered it a ready, But you know,
• 35:26
Speaker 9: what would you credit most with how this game was won?
• 35:30
Speaker 9: You know, the coaching defense. Obviously May didn't play as
• 35:35
Speaker 9: well as you know we would like to see him play.
• 35:39
Speaker 9: You know, was the Chicago doing so poorly and like,
• 35:42
Speaker 9: does everything have to kind of be perfect for us
• 35:46
Speaker 9: in order to have these kinds of wins throughout the
• 35:48
Speaker 9: rest of the season, or you know, is there something
• 35:52
Speaker 9: that we're starting to really do well.
• 35:54
Speaker 2: Well, it was far from perfect from the Patriots standpoint,
• 35:57
Speaker 2: but I just think the ineptness of Chicago's offense, you know,
• 36:02
Speaker 2: against the defense just dominating them. That was how you
• 36:06
Speaker 2: won the game. Like Paul said, they scored three points,
• 36:08
Speaker 2: it was over. Once it became ten to three, it
• 36:11
  Speaker 2: was basically over.
• 36:12
Speaker 4: It felt like an old Patriots win with the defense,
• 36:14
Speaker 4: where you're just like, not today, these guys aren't moving
• 36:16
Speaker 4: the ball, and I think, like I was a little
• 36:18
Speaker 4: bit hesitant. I think Paul was like, oh, that's it.
• 36:20
Speaker 4: Like I still have not gone back to that point
• 36:22
Speaker 4: where I like, I'm at any.
• 36:24
  Speaker 6: Moment I think I said that's it.
• 36:26
Speaker 4: But I was thinking, in hindsight, you're able to. But
• 36:29
Speaker 4: in the context of the game unfolding, I'm with.
• 36:32
Speaker 6: About three minutes left when they decided to not go
• 36:36
Speaker 6: for it on fourth and one and kick the field
• 36:37
Speaker 6: goal or so to make it nineteen to three, and
• 36:40
Speaker 6: it elicited a ranch from No Socks. That's when I
• 36:44
Speaker 6: might have said, Matt, come on, his game is over.
• 36:48
Speaker 2: He wanted to keep going go for the touchdown.
• 36:50
Speaker 6: Because he wanted to make it a three score game.
• 36:53
Speaker 6: I mean, in a real game against a real team.
• 36:56
Speaker 6: I understand what Matt's thinking about, but the way that
• 36:58
Speaker 6: game had unfolded for fifty six minutes, there was no
• 37:01
Speaker 6: way that the Bears were getting two touchdowns and two
• 37:04
Speaker 6: two point conversions in the last four minutes or whatever
• 37:07
Speaker 6: it was after the last field goal. Like, to me,
• 37:10
Speaker 6: it's sort of, you know, game conditions, like there was
• 37:14
Speaker 6: no way Chicago was scoring in the fourth quarter.
• 37:17
Speaker 5: I would just say that if you're looking for something
• 37:19
Speaker 5: that they can really hang their hat on, they can
• 37:22
Speaker 5: really play man coverage on defense, like they really can make.
• 37:25
Speaker 6: I've been so confused as to why they don't do
• 37:27
Speaker 6: it more. I thought they did it a little bit
• 37:28
Speaker 6: against the Jets, and I thought they did it even
• 37:30
  Speaker 6: more in this.
• 37:30
Speaker 2: Would we say this was on defense Marcus Jones one
• 37:33
Speaker 2: of his best games?
• 37:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he was really sticky. Gonzalez is just is
• 37:40
Speaker 5: he Durell Reeves in his prime? No, But he's good
• 37:42
Speaker 5: enough that against the number one receiver he can shut
• 37:45
Speaker 5: that guy down or at least go toe to toe
• 37:47
Speaker 5: with that player, So you feel good about that matchup.
• 37:50
Speaker 5: And they're actually at the second highest man coverage rate
• 37:54
Speaker 5: in the league at this point, so they are playing
• 37:56
Speaker 5: quite a bit of man coverage almost forty five percent
• 37:59
Speaker 5: of the time. Detroit's the only team that plays more,
• 38:02
Speaker 5: so they're playing a significant amount of man coverage. Especially lately.
• 38:06
Speaker 5: It does seem like Covington is figuring out, this is
• 38:09
Speaker 5: kind of who we are, this is what we're good at,
• 38:12
Speaker 5: and now we have to find wrinkles like Schooler and
• 38:15
Speaker 5: other things to be able to get some pressure on
• 38:17
Speaker 5: the quarterback and find ways to pass rush. So you
• 38:21
Speaker 5: have to say, Okay, what's one thing that is repeatable,
• 38:24
Speaker 5: and they're really good at this, I would say man coverage,
• 38:26
Speaker 5: and you keep on doing that every single week and
• 38:28
Speaker 5: maybe it keeps you in game.
• 38:29
Speaker 2: Thanks Chad, appreciate the call that I like that. Phil
• 38:33
Speaker 2: is in Coventry. What's up, Phil?
• 38:37
Speaker 7: Hey, how you guys doing today?
• 38:38
Speaker 2: Okay, I'm just sitting here on my REQUIRER and I
• 38:44
Speaker 2: got from Bobs from having me easy to drink bud
• 38:48
Speaker 2: Light nice, and I was just curious.
• 38:52
Speaker 8: If you guys had heard.
• 38:54
Speaker 7: I guess Seattle released.
• 38:56
  Speaker 6: Their Terrell Dodson.
• 38:59
  Speaker 7: I believe it's a left tackle. I know we just
• 39:03
Speaker 7: picked up the guy whose name I'm not.
• 39:05
Speaker 2: Going to try. He's a guy from the Ravens.
• 39:08
Speaker 8: But I didn't know if you guys had heard that,
• 39:11
Speaker 8: and what you may think the reason because they just
• 39:13
  Speaker 8: cut him.
• 39:15
Speaker 2: All together and hadn't heard that.
• 39:18
Speaker 8: I guess one of their better players or what not
• 39:22
  Speaker 8: for a.
• 39:22
Speaker 5: Few years they backer out of Yeah, yeah, I don't
• 39:28
  Speaker 5: know happen.
• 39:29
Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw something that McDonald said he.
• 39:32
Speaker 2: We'll look for it.
• 39:34
  Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
• 39:36
Speaker 5: No, but he got hurt in the game, which is
• 39:40
Speaker 5: a bummer. But I'm actually willing to see more out
• 39:43
Speaker 5: of talkie talkie. I just think that he's got some
• 39:47
Speaker 5: good size to him, like he's a little bit bigger
• 39:49
Speaker 5: than than Ellis and a little bit more assignment sound
• 39:51
Speaker 5: than McMillan was. And uh, it seems like him in
• 39:54
Speaker 5: Tavai are close off the field too, and they kind
• 39:56
Speaker 5: of got that that some owen thing going a little bit.
• 39:59
Speaker 5: So I would like to see a little bit more.
• 40:01
Speaker 5: Hopefully the hamstring, I think is what it was, isn't
• 40:04
Speaker 5: too serious, so when you.
• 40:05
Speaker 6: Talk about all that kind of stuff, that's why I
• 40:07
Speaker 6: was more impressed with the front in this game. And listen,
• 40:10
Speaker 6: Evan and Mike watched the secondary. You guys are watching
• 40:13
Speaker 6: the coverage on TV We never got to that because
• 40:16
Speaker 6: Caleb Williams got sacked every place, so I didn't get
• 40:19
Speaker 6: to see as much. Matt, in his defense, had Marcus
• 40:22
Speaker 6: Jones on his good list. I was like, because I
• 40:25
Speaker 6: didn't really see him, like, so, I guess I'll take
• 40:29
Speaker 6: a Maya Kulper on that. I'll be I'll be wrong
• 40:31
Speaker 6: on that one. But the Front seven to do what
• 40:34
Speaker 6: it did with U, I mean, did they didn't magically
• 40:38
Speaker 6: get players back in this game. It's all the guys
• 40:40
Speaker 6: that were out and now the guys that came in
• 40:43
Speaker 6: to replace the guys that were out are out.
• 40:46
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 40:46
Speaker 6: Christian Ellis, you know, right wrong or indifferent was playing
• 40:49
Speaker 6: a lot of snaps. Ray Kwan McMillan was playing a
• 40:51
Speaker 6: lot of snaps. Those guys aren't there. It's Taki Taki
• 40:54
Speaker 6: really for his first kind of extended play. I mean
• 40:57
Speaker 6: Curtis Jacobs, I know he didn't play that many plays,
• 40:59
Speaker 6: but you know, Curtis Jacobs started, you know, and they
• 41:03
Speaker 6: didn't get run on, you know, I know he came
• 41:06
Speaker 6: out of the game and you know, they made they made,
• 41:08
Speaker 6: they made some adjustments.
• 41:09
  Speaker 5: And six naps.
• 41:11
Speaker 6: One of those, Jeremiah Farms was in the backfield like
• 41:15
Speaker 6: every play it seemed. I know it wasn't that, but
• 41:18
Speaker 6: I think you had like five or six tackles three
• 41:20
  Speaker 6: for a loss.
• 41:21
  Speaker 5: I didn't see.
• 41:22
Speaker 2: These are guys that.
• 41:23
Speaker 6: I don't anticipate being a big part of the you know,
• 41:25
  Speaker 6: the equation.
• 41:26
Speaker 4: That's that's the thing to me when you talk about sustainable,
• 41:29
Speaker 4: it's like, well, can Jeremiah Farms do this again? Like
• 41:31
Speaker 4: we talked all year like he's kind of a guy
• 41:33
  Speaker 4: thrust into a.
• 41:33
Speaker 6: Roll save the second hour for the reason why. I
• 41:35
Speaker 6: think all these things happen this week. But I'm not
• 41:38
Speaker 6: taking anything away. That was a dominant performance, and you
• 41:41
Speaker 6: can only dominate the team that you're playing.
• 41:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought Farms in particular, I didn't notice him
• 41:47
Speaker 5: as much watching it live as I did watching the rewatch,
• 41:50
  Speaker 5: and it was.
• 41:50
  Speaker 2: Actually very disruptive.
• 41:52
Speaker 5: Girod said it and Monday morning called him out specifically
• 41:56
Speaker 5: and said, you know, it was great to see Farms
• 41:58
Speaker 5: play like that. He was unreal in that game. I
• 42:00
Speaker 5: mean he was back to back run stuff's like on
• 42:04
Speaker 5: their one scoring drive in the red zone to kind
• 42:06
Speaker 5: of put them in third down and getting pressure on
• 42:08
Speaker 5: the quarterback. I was like, this is who is this guy?
• 42:10
Speaker 4: There were so many timely plays too, and I think
• 42:13
Speaker 4: that's how it kind of all came together. And I
• 42:15
Speaker 4: think this happens from time to time with teams, like
• 42:17
Speaker 4: especially good teams, where they just played really well situationally,
• 42:20
Speaker 4: like they make me make some plays, but then they
• 42:22
Speaker 4: counteract it with you know, Farms getting a tackle for
• 42:25
Speaker 4: loss or then you know, making a tackle for loss
• 42:28
Speaker 4: on second down, and now they're in third and long
• 42:30
Speaker 4: and now you're getting off the field. Like everything just
• 42:32
Speaker 4: kind of fit together.
• 42:33
  Speaker 3: Well.
• 42:33
Speaker 4: It's hard to reproduce that.
• 42:34
Speaker 6: And again, we talked about it a lot on the
• 42:37
Speaker 6: postgame show. It wasn't just that they played really well
• 42:39
Speaker 6: on defense. Think about the way this game started and
• 42:42
Speaker 6: how different it could have been if the defense played
• 42:44
Speaker 6: similar to the way it has played. When you know,
• 42:47
Speaker 6: you give up a thirty eight yard punt return on
• 42:49
Speaker 6: the after the first drive and the other team takes
• 42:52
Speaker 6: over around midfield and maybe what two possessions later, I
• 42:56
Speaker 6: almost called him Mac Drake throws a pick, you know
• 43:00
Speaker 6: around midfield. They get no points out of these things.
• 43:03
Speaker 6: I think that the first three Bears drives I think
• 43:05
Speaker 6: started at the forty yard line at the Chicago's forty
• 43:10
Speaker 6: yard line or closer and they allowed no points.
• 43:13
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 43:13
Speaker 6: I mean those are drives that basically all over to
• 43:16
Speaker 6: taken was a first down for Chicago, and you're at
• 43:19
Speaker 6: least getting some points on the board. I think the
• 43:21
Speaker 6: Patriots defense came to play.
• 43:23
Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question on the sly case
• 43:25
Speaker 2: that didn't hit the landing zone. Was he trying to
• 43:28
Speaker 2: do something there or did he just simply mis mishit it.
• 43:32
Speaker 6: I kind of assumed that you guys would know more.
• 43:35
Speaker 6: The wind was causing them to maybe do some different things,
• 43:38
Speaker 6: and maybe he just didn't quite get it where it
• 43:40
Speaker 6: came off the tee like like, oh so maybe he
• 43:42
  Speaker 6: just mishit.
• 43:42
Speaker 2: It like a top spin like okay, it barely Maybe
• 43:45
Speaker 2: it had enough over guys heads, you know, Yeah, yeah,
• 43:48
  Speaker 2: I think.
• 43:49
Speaker 5: It was a mishit.
• 43:49
Speaker 6: Maybe he just mishit.
• 43:50
Speaker 5: But I do think you know, they are they did
• 43:53
Speaker 5: it against Tennessee and overtime like they I know, you know,
• 43:56
Speaker 5: we talk about him on defense, but like schooler is is, they.
• 44:00
Speaker 6: Keep saying that, but every time they do it, it seems
• 44:02
Speaker 6: like the other team just returns it. Like that was
• 44:04
Speaker 6: the one time that they didn't the overtime wanting. But
• 44:07
Speaker 6: they had a kickoff return over the thirty five in
• 44:09
Speaker 6: this game, right, not to mention the thirty eight yard
• 44:12
Speaker 6: part return. I'm not happy with the coverage, no, I
• 44:15
Speaker 6: know that's something they want to hang their hat on
• 44:17
Speaker 6: and girod to your point, Ye've talked about that too,
• 44:20
Speaker 6: like you know, really good, Like I don't see it
• 44:22
Speaker 6: stand a lane, I don't see it there.
• 44:25
Speaker 5: Great and out well on special teams as a whole,
• 44:27
Speaker 5: punt coverages. I think their biggest issue right now. They're
• 44:30
Speaker 5: giving up a lot of big punt returns. But they've
• 44:33
Speaker 5: been aiming kicks like into Schooler's lane and then just
• 44:36
Speaker 5: letting him just shoot out of a cannon and make
• 44:39
Speaker 5: sticks on the ball. And you know he's the punt
• 44:43
Speaker 5: He's one of the best special teams players in the league.
• 44:45
Speaker 6: The punt return game has been really, really good. Yeah,
• 44:49
Speaker 6: so that might be one guy that most electric returner
• 44:52
Speaker 6: in the league. I stand by it, okay, but did
• 44:54
Speaker 6: they I think that's why they're grading out so high
• 44:58
Speaker 6: is their punt returns. This is like three or four
• 45:00
Speaker 6: weeks in a row now where they're getting significant plays
• 45:02
Speaker 6: in the punt return game.
• 45:04
Speaker 2: Uh, We'll do one more call and we'll take a break.
• 45:06
Speaker 2: Vinnie's in Vegas. What's up, Vinnie?
• 45:10
Speaker 7: Hey, guys, I I was gonna ask about the line,
• 45:13
Speaker 7: but you know, I wanted to ask you guys. Was
• 45:18
Speaker 7: the Brandon Schooler one of those Bill moments where they
• 45:22
Speaker 7: actually saw a weakness and said, Okay, let's use this guy.
• 45:25
Speaker 7: Or was this more of a need because our you know,
• 45:29
Speaker 7: our linebackers are not.
• 45:31
Speaker 6: They don't have enough linebackers to play. But but they've.
• 45:34
Speaker 2: Been fooling around with Schooler on defense since training camp.
• 45:37
Speaker 6: That's the first five defensive snaps he's gotten.
• 45:39
  Speaker 10: I know.
• 45:39
Speaker 2: But back in training camp we said, oh, but.
• 45:43
Speaker 6: They were down McMillan, No, I know, Elis. But now
• 45:47
Speaker 6: you said taki taky.
• 45:49
Speaker 2: But you know we used to we used to pack someone.
• 45:53
Speaker 2: Remember they were using him in training camp.
• 45:55
Speaker 6: No one's patting them on the back for this.
• 45:56
Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying like that's that's where it might
• 46:00
  Speaker 2: have originated.
• 46:01
Speaker 6: No, but I'm just saying the amount of attention that
• 46:03
Speaker 6: those five players have gotten is through the roof. You
• 46:06
Speaker 6: can't say that that's flown under the rail.
• 46:08
Speaker 2: I'm not saying it is. I'm just saying that. You know,
• 46:11
Speaker 2: you said, Oh, the only reason he was out there
• 46:13
Speaker 2: is because the need correct But they they were thinking
• 46:16
Speaker 2: about him for defense since training camp.
• 46:18
Speaker 6: Yes, but that's what you do, okay, in case we
• 46:21
Speaker 6: lose four guys, we need someone.
• 46:23
  Speaker 2: What sight coaching?
• 46:25
Speaker 6: I would just the coaching was outstanding in this game.
• 46:29
Speaker 6: I mean how many different times do you have to
• 46:30
  Speaker 6: say it?
• 46:30
  Speaker 5: I just I think need is like, I mean, I
• 46:33
Speaker 5: don't know, like they're playing a quarterback in Caleb whose
• 46:35
Speaker 5: specialty is scrambling and is improvising. Andy he said it
• 46:39
Speaker 5: after the game, Schooler did it. They watched all of
• 46:41
Speaker 5: his extended dropbacks, all thirty six of them over six seconds,
• 46:46
Speaker 5: and they knew that that was something that they couldn't
• 46:48
Speaker 5: let him do because if they made him play quarterback
• 46:51
Speaker 5: from the pocket, then he was gonna go and we
• 46:53
Speaker 5: want guy here, let's let's try it. Yeah.
• 46:56
Speaker 2: I like the innovation.
• 46:58
Speaker 6: I would have liked it if it came on the
• 46:59
Speaker 6: first third down of the game, because that would have
• 47:01
Speaker 6: told me they saw something they identified this guy is
• 47:05
Speaker 6: the is the antidote to it? Yeah, But it didn't
• 47:07
Speaker 6: happen until everybody else was sort of knocked out of
• 47:09
Speaker 6: the game and then they said, okay, school will go
• 47:11
Speaker 6: ahead and base him around.
• 47:13
Speaker 2: But it is true.
• 47:14
Speaker 5: No, it's not. Taki talking didn't get hurt until the
• 47:16
  Speaker 5: fourth quarter.
• 47:17
Speaker 6: And that's when this guy came in.
• 47:18
Speaker 5: No, it's not, No, it's not.
• 47:21
Speaker 6: He didn't play in the first half. Yurtis Jacob started.
• 47:24
Speaker 5: Okay, but this was laid down in the first half,
• 47:28
Speaker 5: and he played on the on the play, so it's just.
• 47:31
  Speaker 6: I mean, I'm wrong, I don't I didn't remember seeing
• 47:36
Speaker 6: him this on the five plays that reinvented football, I
• 47:39
Speaker 6: didn't remember him seeing him until the second half. I
• 47:42
Speaker 6: stay corrected if one of them was in the first.
• 47:45
Speaker 6: But you know, he made two really, really good plays.
• 47:48
Speaker 6: I'm not taking the plays away from him. I'm just saying, like,
• 47:51
Speaker 6: do we have to do this all the time?
• 47:52
  Speaker 2: Yes? Yes, again.
• 47:56
Speaker 6: And I hated it when you made a shrine to
• 47:58
Speaker 6: the old coach, so I'm gonna I'm going to be
• 48:00
  Speaker 6: very consistent.
• 48:01
Speaker 5: He's just not you know, I've just been waiting for
• 48:03
Speaker 5: this coaching staff to do something cool. They did something cool, right,
• 48:07
Speaker 5: Like all year long, I've been saying.
• 48:09
  Speaker 1: Like.
• 48:11
Speaker 6: Mike, who was my who was my first good in
• 48:13
Speaker 6: the good list this week. DeMarcus Covington, I think it
• 48:16
Speaker 6: was far and away the most impressive defensive game plan
• 48:19
Speaker 6: that they've put together because they did a lot of
• 48:22
Speaker 6: different things, and you know, ironically, they kind of played
• 48:25
Speaker 6: a very like same defense for most of the game. Right,
• 48:29
Speaker 6: they play a lot of in yeha man. So I
• 48:34
Speaker 6: just think of what they did. Completely shut down Chicago,
• 48:39
Speaker 6: all right. This was This wasn't like the other team
• 48:42
Speaker 6: dropped seven passes, the other team missed two field goals,
• 48:45
Speaker 6: the other team fumbled as they were going into the
• 48:47
Speaker 6: end zone. This was like, just you shut down the team.
• 48:51
Speaker 6: They got one hundred and forty yards. This was defense.
• 48:54
Speaker 6: Like that's to me, was the difference in the game
• 48:56
Speaker 6: is you shut them down. They didn't just stop themselves.
• 49:00
Speaker 2: And to celebrate that, Paul's Food is here.
• 49:02
Speaker 5: First quarter, I already took the lpha.
• 49:10
Speaker 2: That all right, Paul's foods here, So we're gonna take
• 49:12
  Speaker 2: a break.
• 49:13
Speaker 6: He played a play in the first half.

• 50:45
Speaker 3: Yep, thanks to TASE, you know, first and foremost.
• 50:48
Speaker 13: This is definitely a huge day, obviously in our nation
• 50:53
Speaker 13: and personally in our household. I just want to personally
• 50:55
Speaker 13: thank all the veterans for their service, for their sacrifice.
• 51:00
Speaker 13: Coming from a military background, my grandfather was a chief
• 51:03
Speaker 13: Massive Sergeant in the Air Force.
• 51:05
Speaker 3: My mom works Langley Air Force Base.
• 51:08
Speaker 13: My stepdad, you know, also a veteran, I have nothing
• 51:11
Speaker 13: but appreciation for everything you do, and I think it's
• 51:13
Speaker 13: important to say, especially when we have the platform to
• 51:17
Speaker 13: say something. Moving on to the game, kind of hit
• 51:21
Speaker 13: on it last night. I thought, overall, you know, the
• 51:25
Speaker 13: message of physicality and and just moving guys. I thought,
• 51:29
Speaker 13: you know, when I watched the film, you could see
• 51:32
Speaker 13: that for the majority of the game. I thought, offensively,
• 51:36
Speaker 13: we did a good job handling the down guys in
• 51:38
Speaker 13: the run game, just getting the back started, and it
• 51:41
Speaker 13: was a start contrast to the game before where you
• 51:44
Speaker 13: know it was you know, we would get behind the
• 51:46
Speaker 13: sticks and it would be second and twelve and second
• 51:49
Speaker 13: and ten second eleven. I thought this week, really, I
• 51:52
Speaker 13: don't think we had any negative runs in the run game.
• 51:55
Speaker 13: I think we had a couple of like four or
• 51:57
Speaker 13: five no games, but no negative runs, and that's the
• 52:00
Speaker 13: way we have to win this game as a whole.
• 52:03
Speaker 13: To me, reminded me of the Cincinnati game as far
• 52:07
Speaker 13: as really controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides
• 52:09
Speaker 13: of the ball and controlling the time of possession. It
• 52:12
Speaker 13: was very, very similar to that game. I thought the
• 52:15
Speaker 13: receivers did a better job, you know, blocking in the
• 52:17
Speaker 13: run game. You know, they did a good job doing
• 52:20
Speaker 13: that and then also getting open catch some balls. Thought
• 52:23
Speaker 13: Drake went out there and made some plays. I think,
• 52:27
Speaker 13: you know, he'll watch the film and he'll be critical
• 52:30
Speaker 13: of himself. But at the same time, I think there
• 52:31
Speaker 13: were some plays that we left out there. The one
• 52:34
Speaker 13: thing offensively which was disappointing for me was just the
• 52:37
Speaker 13: red area. I thought, you know, going into the game,
• 52:40
Speaker 13: out of the last nine drives, you know, we had
• 52:42
Speaker 13: eight touchdowns in one field goal, and then yesterday to
• 52:45
Speaker 13: go one for five.
• 52:46
Speaker 3: Was a step back. But I fully anticipated us getting
• 52:49
  Speaker 3: back on track.
• 52:50
Speaker 13: We'll definitely make that a point of emphasis this week
• 52:55
Speaker 13: and going forward as we as we always have.
• 52:57
Speaker 3: Defensively, I thought the front did a good job.
• 52:59
Speaker 13: I thought Farms went in there and definitely gave us
• 53:02
Speaker 13: a spark, so I was happy to see that. But
• 53:04
Speaker 13: all those guys, especially the interior guys, for the most part,
• 53:07
Speaker 13: played pretty well. Now there were a few runs that
• 53:09
Speaker 13: did squeak through, but I thought they did did a decent.
• 53:13
Speaker 3: Job for us. You know, the edge the edge at times.
• 53:17
Speaker 13: I wouldn't say it was a problem, but it was
• 53:18
Speaker 13: a little software than we would have liked it to be.
• 53:20
Speaker 13: I thought the defensive backs really tried to come up
• 53:23
Speaker 13: and support some of those plays. Was encouraging to see.
• 53:26
Speaker 13: I think the young players are definitely growing up. I
• 53:29
Speaker 13: think Marte is taking a step forward, even though he
• 53:31
Speaker 13: didn't play that much, especially on early downs. I just
• 53:34
Speaker 13: think his overall communication and you know, control of the
• 53:38
Speaker 13: defense continues to improve. While we don't have the other
• 53:41
Speaker 13: guys in there, but the linebackers went out there and
• 53:45
Speaker 13: tried to play hard. Dot Jelaanni definitely did a good
• 53:47
Speaker 13: job with the front adjustments and that communication, and also
• 53:51
Speaker 13: you know, obviously coming up with the big play as
• 53:53
Speaker 13: far as the sack special teams. Marcus continues to be
• 53:56
Speaker 13: a huge weapon for us, our punter, huge weapon for us,
• 53:59
Speaker 13: our kicker, huge weapon for us. You know, to be
• 54:02
Speaker 13: able to go out there and kick a perfect game
• 54:05
Speaker 13: four for four with Joey Slye. And then you know,
• 54:08
Speaker 13: after that first point, I thought Bryce really settled in
• 54:10
Speaker 13: and you know, his confidence is where we wanted to be,
• 54:12
Speaker 13: where we needed to be, and we're going to definitely
• 54:15
Speaker 13: lean on him as far as a guy that can
• 54:17
Speaker 13: flip the field for us. I'm saying that, you know,
• 54:20
Speaker 13: our punk coverage, especially in that first one, we have
• 54:22
Speaker 13: to do a better job.
• 54:23
Speaker 3: And this is I say it every single week.
• 54:27
Speaker 13: We have to continue to improve, and we have to
• 54:30
Speaker 13: improve fast because these other teams are watching that stuff
• 54:34
Speaker 13: on film as well, and so as we continue to
• 54:36
Speaker 13: go through the self scout and stuff like that, or
• 54:38
Speaker 13: even watching this tape, there are definitely things that we
• 54:41
Speaker 13: have to do better. Now I'm closing, I would say
• 54:44
Speaker 13: like this is you know wor at this point in
• 54:46
Speaker 13: the season, this is.
• 54:47
Speaker 3: Who we are. We have to go out there. We
• 54:49
Speaker 3: have to control a line of scrimmage, we have to
• 54:51
Speaker 3: be able to run the ball, we have to stay
• 54:52
Speaker 3: ahead of the sticks. We have to play good defense.
• 54:55
Speaker 13: We have to get off the field on third down,
• 54:56
Speaker 13: which we did yesterday by a mix of generating pressure
• 55:00
Speaker 13: and also coverage, and play good special teams.
• 55:03
Speaker 3: And this is the formula. And as I always say,
• 55:05
Speaker 3: I use this as.
• 55:06
Speaker 13: A microphone not only to give you guys information but
• 55:09
Speaker 13: also to talk to the players.
• 55:11
Speaker 3: So players, this is how we need to play going forward.
• 55:17
Speaker 3: That would open up for questions. We'll start with Mike
• 55:19
Speaker 3: follow like Chris Ryan Girod.
• 55:22
Speaker 14: My question is on the new player Yank and Goku
• 55:25
Speaker 14: and I'm curious if he's met with the team yet
• 55:29
Speaker 14: and how you see him mixing in.
• 55:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, excited to get Janick here.
• 55:34
Speaker 13: You know, I've watched him on tape for a very
• 55:36
Speaker 13: long time and he's been a very productive player in
• 55:39
Speaker 13: this league. He has not met with the team yet,
• 55:42
Speaker 13: and saying that, you know he'll get with the coaches
• 55:44
Speaker 13: here soon and I'm excited to really teach him to
• 55:48
Speaker 13: playbook and excited to see what he would bring to
• 55:50
  Speaker 13: this team.
• 55:52
Speaker 3: Look, he's not just a passer.
• 55:53
Speaker 13: I'm sure this guy has the skill set to be
• 55:54
Speaker 13: able to play on all three downs, which which is
• 55:57
Speaker 13: always exciting. And you know, kudos to you know, the
• 56:00
Speaker 13: scouting department and all those guys for always trying to
• 56:03
Speaker 13: improve our roster. And we see this as a way
• 56:05
Speaker 13: of improving us now and going forward.
• 56:08
Speaker 14: And just a quick follow up, have you had a
• 56:10
Speaker 14: chance or has anyone had a chance to connect with
• 56:12
Speaker 14: him to just see, you know, how he feels about
• 56:15
Speaker 14: coming to the Patriots.
• 56:16
Speaker 13: Yeah, I've had a chance to connect with them, and
• 56:19
Speaker 13: I would say multiple coaches have also defensive coaches.
• 56:22
Speaker 3: I've connected with them, and he's excited for the opportunity.
• 56:24
Speaker 10: So Chris, Ryan White, and Steel and you're ontoball as
• 56:33
Speaker 10: well with you you mentioned earlier, you know this was
• 56:36
Speaker 10: probably the best all round game since Week one, particularly
• 56:39
Speaker 10: game to controlling both lines of a scrimmage on both
• 56:42
Speaker 10: sides of the ball. Why do you think you know
• 56:45
Speaker 10: this week you guys were able to kind of execute
• 56:48
Speaker 10: that vision that you have had very explicitly out there
• 56:51
  Speaker 10: for the group.
• 56:53
  Speaker 3: I'marn Chris, I'm not sure.
• 56:56
Speaker 13: You know you always it's the same thing you know
• 56:59
Speaker 13: last night I spoke about, you know, polking. You know,
• 57:02
Speaker 13: sometimes those rookies reach reaching a point of inflection and
• 57:05
Speaker 13: you just don't know when that point is going to
• 57:06
Speaker 13: be that's also applicable to a team that's also applicable
• 57:09
Speaker 13: to a certain side.
• 57:10
Speaker 3: Of the ball. And you know, I guess now, you know,
• 57:14
Speaker 3: we'll wrap this game up.
• 57:15
Speaker 13: But it's about knowing what the formula is and now
• 57:18
Speaker 13: applying it on a game after game basis, and we
• 57:21
Speaker 13: have to learn how to string wins together. And that's
• 57:24
Speaker 13: going to be my message today and going forward.
• 57:27
Speaker 10: Part of the formul obviously was having your younger players
• 57:30
Speaker 10: play instead of the veterans at wide receiver. Do you
• 57:33
Speaker 10: see that being the same with that position.
• 57:36
  Speaker 15: Group moving forward?
• 57:36
Speaker 10: And could that also be in other position groups where
• 57:40
Speaker 10: you veterans are kind of pushed aside, if you will,
• 57:43
Speaker 10: for to see what younger players can do with enhanced roles.
• 57:47
Speaker 13: Yeah, My goal, you know, as the head coach is
• 57:49
Speaker 13: to put the players out there that give us the
• 57:51
Speaker 13: best chance to win. Elliott and his staff, you know,
• 57:55
Speaker 13: they have the hard part of trying to get the
• 57:58
Speaker 13: rosters as well as we can get it now, but
• 58:00
Speaker 13: also looking for the future.
• 58:02
Speaker 3: Ultimately is my decision and my decision from on.
• 58:05
Speaker 13: A week after week basis to you know, put the
• 58:07
Speaker 13: best players out there that give us the best chance
• 58:09
  Speaker 13: to win.
• 58:11
Speaker 3: Thank you. Thanks in steel FULWI to cod A Randam.
• 58:16
Speaker 15: Mornan Gerard checking you, thanks and thanks for the Veterans
• 58:21
Speaker 15: Day comments earlier as well. On Drake May, what did
• 58:27
Speaker 15: you see from him this week in terms of his
• 58:30
Speaker 15: vocal leadership, He said that's something that he's been trying
• 58:33
Speaker 15: to work on as he started to blame more.
• 58:36
Speaker 13: Yeah, I think, look, this is part of the evolution
• 58:40
Speaker 13: of Drake and this is something that we've discussed behind
• 58:44
Speaker 13: closed doors, and I thought he did a good job.
• 58:46
Speaker 13: You know, not only you know, going out there executing
• 58:49
Speaker 13: in practice, but also you know, having those player only meetings,
• 58:53
Speaker 13: and that's what we need from We need that. And
• 58:55
Speaker 13: you know, anytime you have a quarterback that is as
• 58:58
Speaker 13: level headed and you know as a smart guy and
• 59:01
Speaker 13: a competitor all those things and a leader, there's no
• 59:05
Speaker 13: perfect time to do anything.
• 59:07
Speaker 3: So we just said, hey, let's just do it right now.
• 59:09
Speaker 13: And he's done an excellent job there and I look
• 59:12
Speaker 13: forward to seeing that progress going forward.
• 59:16
Speaker 3: The cord Renal Fall by Sophie.
• 59:17
Speaker 15: Rowland, Rodin Seins, Michael Hasty outstaped, Antonio Gibson. The last
• 59:24
Speaker 15: couple of weeks, just what I'm wondering you know what
• 59:26
Speaker 15: the reasoning has been for that shift.
• 59:29
Speaker 13: I would just say all three of uh, you know,
• 59:31
Speaker 13: all three of those backs, you know, bring something different
• 59:34
Speaker 13: to the table. And again just the last couple of weeks,
• 59:38
Speaker 13: it was more of a hasty game than a gibbie game.
• 59:41
Speaker 13: And that that is a week after week discussion, not
• 59:45
Speaker 13: only at the backspot, but at multiple positions on this team.
• 59:49
Speaker 3: Thank you, Thanks Sophie roller By Mike cheer.
• 59:56
Speaker 16: Hey, Rod, I was just curious throughout the beginning of
• 1:00:00
Speaker 16: the week. Last week we saw Michael Wanno taking snaps
• 1:00:02
Speaker 16: at left guard, but then the game you had him
• 1:00:05
Speaker 16: at right guard. Just kind of what went into that
• 1:00:07
Speaker 16: decision to move him around so much last week but
• 1:00:11
Speaker 16: ultimately put him at right.
• 1:00:13
Speaker 13: Yeah, it just goes back to what's the best lineup
• 1:00:16
Speaker 13: that gives us the best opportunity to get moving up
• 1:00:18
Speaker 13: front and protect the quarterback.
• 1:00:20
Speaker 3: And uh, that's what we that's what we thought we
• 1:00:22
Speaker 3: were doing. That was the idea behind it.
• 1:00:27
Speaker 16: And then just one more I was curious about Kendrick Bourne.
• 1:00:31
Speaker 16: I asked you a similar question last week, but it
• 1:00:32
Speaker 16: was he was so fired up on the sidelines and
• 1:00:35
Speaker 16: even like after the game for Patriots when things like that,
• 1:00:38
Speaker 16: What is it like to have a player like that
• 1:00:40
Speaker 16: who you know will always be there for his teammates
• 1:00:43
Speaker 16: and moments like that, even if he's not necessarily on
• 1:00:45
  Speaker 16: the field.
• 1:00:47
  Speaker 3: It's great.
• 1:00:47
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 1:00:48
Speaker 13: It's the selfless attitude that we always talk about. And
• 1:00:52
Speaker 13: there's no secret, you know, kb he brings a lot
• 1:00:55
Speaker 13: of energy. You know, it starts with a smile and
• 1:00:57
Speaker 13: then he always just brings the juice, brings the energy
• 1:00:59
Speaker 13: and it's definitely a welcome sight for us here Annoy.
• 1:01:03
Speaker 2: England and now great moments in.
• 1:01:09
  Speaker 3: History.
• 1:01:10
Speaker 2: Good lobster bisk is sex. It's like sex for your throat.
• 1:01:14
Speaker 2: I do remember saying that. I do remember saying that
• 1:01:17
Speaker 2: I don't. But that's even funnier. Thing is like sex
• 1:01:23
  Speaker 2: for your throat.
• 1:01:24
  Speaker 6: Pusser was damn yeah, I don't. I wouldn't doubt Dan.
• 1:01:28
Speaker 2: If you're looking for a good lobster bisc on the Cape,
• 1:01:30
Speaker 2: the Daniel Webster in Sandwich has an excellent okay lobster bisk.
• 1:01:36
Speaker 6: You have the the place down the cape. Oh yeah,
• 1:01:40
  Speaker 6: for everything.
• 1:01:41
Speaker 2: Well, if you haven't noticed, they eat out a lot
• 1:01:44
Speaker 2: because I don't cook, but my wife doesn't really particularly
• 1:01:48
Speaker 2: enjoy it either. So we eat out a lot.
• 1:01:51
Speaker 6: But yeah, my wife and I eat out a lot too.
• 1:01:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, I I I enjoy the whole thing about eating out.
• 1:01:58
Speaker 2: I do you know, I like the sitting down, getting
• 1:02:02
Speaker 2: a drink, placing the water.
• 1:02:04
Speaker 6: I just you know what I really like when on
• 1:02:07
Speaker 6: like a like a Saturday night, especially in the summer,
• 1:02:10
Speaker 6: if it's nice out, you get to a place on
• 1:02:12
Speaker 6: the water and your table's not ready, and you go
• 1:02:16
Speaker 6: to the bar and have you know, maybe a couple
• 1:02:18
Speaker 6: of drinks while you're waiting for your table. Yeah, And
• 1:02:21
Speaker 6: that that to me is like, see, I don't cut
• 1:02:23
Speaker 6: this a couple off.
• 1:02:24
  Speaker 2: I don't perfect for me. I don't like it. I
• 1:02:26
Speaker 2: don't like having to be in a place where I
• 1:02:28
Speaker 2: know I'm going to have to move as soon as
• 1:02:30
Speaker 2: they call my name. I like to just be where
• 1:02:32
Speaker 2: I'm going to be in settle in you fat, No,
• 1:02:36
Speaker 2: it's not about lazy now. I don't want to move.
• 1:02:38
Speaker 2: That's another great moment.
• 1:02:42
Speaker 6: Oh, you know it's not easy, But you know what
• 1:02:44
Speaker 6: is easy, bud Light.
• 1:02:46
Speaker 2: It's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy. Bud Light,
• 1:02:49

• 1:03:26
Speaker 2: much you can say when you dare to compare with

• 1:03:32
  Speaker 2: England Patriots.
• 1:03:34
Speaker 6: So good, dude, what do you think of the summer?
• 1:03:38
Speaker 6: Your table's not ready? Going to have some time on
• 1:03:40
Speaker 6: the water and enjoy your drink.
• 1:03:41
Speaker 4: I love it, and I mean I was gonna push
• 1:03:43
Speaker 4: back on front of us. I was like, you check
• 1:03:45
Speaker 4: the vibe out on the bar a little bit. You know,
• 1:03:47
Speaker 4: you set up, you see what's going on in there,
• 1:03:49
Speaker 4: have a drink, close it out, close the tab out,
• 1:03:52
Speaker 4: and you head over to the table.
• 1:03:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, see all that, you got to close the tab out,
• 1:03:56
Speaker 2: just roll it over. Then I just want to sit down.
• 1:03:58
Speaker 2: I'll have my drinks at my table.
• 1:04:01
Speaker 4: Just leave do like the.
• 1:04:02
Speaker 5: Places that let you just roll it, you know, like
• 1:04:04
Speaker 5: keep the same tab.
• 1:04:05
Speaker 6: Oh, generally that's what they'll don't, you know.
• 1:04:09
  Speaker 2: I appreciate that. That's the life I heard that. It's
• 1:04:13
Speaker 2: not good etiquette when you're at the bar to then
• 1:04:16
Speaker 2: walk to your table with your drink, like they should
• 1:04:20
Speaker 2: take your drink for you. Like you shouldn't walk through
• 1:04:23
Speaker 2: the dining hall with a drink in your hand. It's
• 1:04:25
  Speaker 2: not good etiquette.
• 1:04:26
Speaker 6: Okay, that might be weird if you It depends what
• 1:04:28
Speaker 6: kind of place you're I think if you were in
• 1:04:30
Speaker 6: a high end restaurant, I would agree with.
• 1:04:32
Speaker 4: That kind of place where they set your napkin up
• 1:04:34
Speaker 4: for you. Kind of the places you go seven napkin,
• 1:04:37
Speaker 4: like when you get up and you come back and
• 1:04:38
  Speaker 4: someone like that.
• 1:04:39
  Speaker 5: The bar.
• 1:04:39
Speaker 6: I'm on the water here like this the water. It's
• 1:04:42
Speaker 6: not like fancy schmancy places. First of all, you know me,
• 1:04:45
Speaker 6: what what I eat at a fancy place?
• 1:04:47
Speaker 2: But you go in a place, can I get a water?
• 1:04:49
Speaker 6: Can I get a burger? Can I get Buffalo wings?
• 1:04:51
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 1:04:51
Speaker 6: I don't think getting that in the places that you're
• 1:04:53
  Speaker 6: describe you going.
• 1:04:54
Speaker 2: To places on the water, those are fancy.
• 1:04:56
Speaker 4: No, no, but that's where your mind goes to Paul
• 1:04:58
Speaker 4: through like it's going to be about a twenty minute
• 1:05:00
  Speaker 4: wait and you're.
• 1:05:00
Speaker 6: Like, midtle Light please, sorry, bud Light place please.
• 1:05:06
Speaker 5: Okay, bud Light Seltzer because I can't say the other
• 1:05:08
  Speaker 5: one apparently.
• 1:05:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, maybe somebody who is familiar with
• 1:05:13
Speaker 2: Emily Post or something.
• 1:05:14
Speaker 6: You know, I think what you sell us, what you
• 1:05:16
Speaker 6: said makes sense. Yeah, if you're in a nice restaurant,
• 1:05:18
Speaker 6: you probably don't want to be walking through a dining area. Yeah,
• 1:05:21
Speaker 6: with drinks in your hand.
• 1:05:22
Speaker 2: Kind of low class, well class? Okay? Uh, Dana when
• 1:05:27
Speaker 2: Chicago writes in on the tpx houtline, can't believe I'm
• 1:05:30
Speaker 2: even saying this. But the Patriots are only two games
• 1:05:33
Speaker 2: back of the final wildcard spot with seven to go. Gope,
• 1:05:37
Speaker 2: do we have any shot?
• 1:05:40
  Speaker 4: I don't think so.
• 1:05:41
Speaker 2: What come on now?
• 1:05:42
Speaker 4: But I am I look and I'll say the same
• 1:05:45
Speaker 4: stuff I said at the beginning of the season, like
• 1:05:47
Speaker 4: I want to see what how Drake does in Miami.
• 1:05:49
Speaker 4: How does he deal with playing down there? That's a
• 1:05:51
Speaker 4: really hard place to play. Brady struggled there. It's the
• 1:05:53
Speaker 4: same thing with Buffalo. I think, you know, we saw
• 1:05:55
Speaker 4: Mac go up there and we all took one look
• 1:05:57
Speaker 4: at him and like Paul, remember Paul going like he
• 1:05:59
  Speaker 4: looks cold.
• 1:06:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, Buffalo is definitely big, like Miami is more his climate.
• 1:06:04
  Speaker 15: Yeah.
• 1:06:04
Speaker 5: I think he's actually gonna enjoy playing down there. But
• 1:06:07
Speaker 5: how do you play in Nordred Park when it's windy
• 1:06:10
Speaker 5: and freezing and you're from North Carolina and you've never
• 1:06:13
Speaker 5: really left that area?
• 1:06:14
Speaker 6: Like that should translate though? His skill set should He's
• 1:06:17
Speaker 6: you know, he can run when he needs to, he
• 1:06:19
Speaker 6: can throw the ball through the wind.
• 1:06:20
Speaker 5: It's almost like he's Josh Allen.
• 1:06:22
Speaker 4: His skill set should not play anything like that. I
• 1:06:25
Speaker 4: don't really like, I don't know what but mean, but.
• 1:06:27
Speaker 6: But the conditions will mean something no matter who he's
• 1:06:30
Speaker 6: playing against. And I would just okay, no, no, no, no, no, right,
• 1:06:37
  Speaker 6: all right.
• 1:06:38
Speaker 2: Yvonne writes in from Toronto. She said, key On White's
• 1:06:41
Speaker 2: comments hit the nail on the head. We are a
• 1:06:43
Speaker 2: young defense forced into a lot of starting positions, and
• 1:06:46
Speaker 2: what you guys are seeing is us figuring it out?
• 1:06:49
Speaker 2: And I feel we are becoming a more cohesive unit.
• 1:06:52
Speaker 2: My question to you is who do you see staying
• 1:06:55
Speaker 2: next year? And who will the team upgrade in the
• 1:06:58
Speaker 2: draft and free agency.
• 1:06:59
Speaker 5: It's a long list on both sides, but nobody can
• 1:07:03
Speaker 5: block keyon White one on one.
• 1:07:04
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:07:05
Speaker 6: Do we everybody think that they were like coming together
• 1:07:08
Speaker 6: the week before No, or the week before that. No, No,
• 1:07:12
Speaker 6: I mean this, I think they They've been kind of
• 1:07:15
Speaker 6: tracking the other way and this was a great bounce
• 1:07:19
  Speaker 6: back performance.
• 1:07:20
Speaker 4: It's just got to be sustainable. And that's I think
• 1:07:22
Speaker 4: the big question, you know, just just does Farms have
• 1:07:25
Speaker 4: another game like that in him? I mean, but it's
• 1:07:27
Speaker 4: more to me just cohesive defense, like and that's what
• 1:07:30
Speaker 4: it's supposed to look like. Where they taught you know,
• 1:07:33
Speaker 4: the rush and the coverage you're married up and you
• 1:07:35
Speaker 4: know the moments when the rush wasn't quite getting there,
• 1:07:38
Speaker 4: the coverage was really tight, and you know other moments
• 1:07:41
Speaker 4: when there might have been places to be made, the
• 1:07:43
Speaker 4: rush was able to impact the quarterback and get him
• 1:07:45
Speaker 4: off of you know, his progression. So I don't like,
• 1:07:48
Speaker 4: now I'm kind of curious, like that's you know, the
• 1:07:50
Speaker 4: last few weeks, I was just kind of like, this
• 1:07:52
Speaker 4: is what it is, this is what I'm expecting. Now
• 1:07:53
Speaker 4: they've shown that they are capable of this game. I
• 1:07:56
Speaker 4: just think it's really hard to play like that every
• 1:07:58
Speaker 4: week unless you're really talented.
• 1:08:00
Speaker 5: I'm not going to play like that every week, obviously,
• 1:08:02
Speaker 5: But I agree with your your point about the structure.
• 1:08:05
Speaker 5: Like earlier on in the season, like quarterbacks are getting
• 1:08:09
Speaker 5: out of the pocket like crazy and making plays on
• 1:08:11
Speaker 5: them on the move and with their legs and things
• 1:08:13
Speaker 5: like that. So to keep Caleb bottled up as much
• 1:08:16
Speaker 5: as they did, that was a coordinated plan that they
• 1:08:19
Speaker 5: executed that I don't think they would have executed it
• 1:08:22
Speaker 5: in September. So that part of it is it wasn't
• 1:08:25
Speaker 5: just Paul's guys schooler like chasing him down and keeping
• 1:08:28
Speaker 5: him in the pocket like a lot of them were,
• 1:08:32
Speaker 5: you know the trash compactor, you know, keeping him in
• 1:08:35
Speaker 5: the pocket and closing it in on him. You know,
• 1:08:37
Speaker 5: Dietrich Wise's first sack was that just hold the ball,
• 1:08:40
Speaker 5: hold the ball, and then eventually it all just collapsed
• 1:08:43
Speaker 5: on them. So those are plays like their containment and
• 1:08:45
Speaker 5: their discipline has improved a lot since the beginning of
• 1:08:49
  Speaker 5: the season.
• 1:08:49
Speaker 2: Matt Wright, since Sundays win really showed me that people's
• 1:08:52
Speaker 2: expectations for this front office and coaching staff were way
• 1:08:55
Speaker 2: too low in the preseason. Despite the fact that the
• 1:08:59
Speaker 2: Patriots have gotten nothing from the draft besides May and
• 1:09:02
Speaker 2: free agency, They're probably going to win four or five games.
• 1:09:06
Speaker 2: If the Patriots simply started May Day one and fixed
• 1:09:09
Speaker 2: one position on offense like O line or wide receiver,
• 1:09:13
Speaker 2: or even made them not bottom of the league bad,
• 1:09:15
Speaker 2: they would be looking at seven to nine wins. Woolf's
• 1:09:19
Speaker 2: drafting was not only way off the consensus media board
• 1:09:22
Speaker 2: reaching as a proven statistical problem, but he has zero
• 1:09:26
Speaker 2: immediate contributors from rounds two to seven. I don't need
• 1:09:29
Speaker 2: rookie OBJ, but can you at least get a rookie
• 1:09:32
Speaker 2: Nico Collins. The five to twenty five rule is real.
• 1:09:35
Speaker 2: Poke is likely a bust, and this draft class appears
• 1:09:38
Speaker 2: to be an F minus Outside of May. They should
• 1:09:41
Speaker 2: be thanking May for their job security every week. Wow.
• 1:09:45
Speaker 6: Wow, what is the five five things?
• 1:09:48
Speaker 2: What's the five to twenty five rule?
• 1:09:50
  Speaker 5: No idea?
• 1:09:50
  Speaker 15: What that is?
• 1:09:51
  Speaker 2: Never?
• 1:09:52
Speaker 6: How exactly would they have more? I mean, I wanted
• 1:09:54
Speaker 6: Drake May to start Week one, yep, But how would
• 1:09:57
Speaker 6: their record be different?
• 1:09:58
Speaker 2: He's just saying they would have won some games they lost,
• 1:10:01
  Speaker 2: so like.
• 1:10:01
  Speaker 6: Based on what I don't know, I don't know, Like
• 1:10:06
Speaker 6: I think Gerrod Mayo and the coaching staff or whoever's
• 1:10:09
Speaker 6: decision it was to start Jacoby Brissett, I think was
• 1:10:13
Speaker 6: what was in their mind was turnovers.
• 1:10:16
  Speaker 2: Yep.
• 1:10:17
Speaker 6: Drake May have started five games, which is amounted to
• 1:10:21
Speaker 6: four games in about a quarter and he's turned the
• 1:10:24
Speaker 6: ball over seven times, So why would they have won
• 1:10:30
Speaker 6: more games if he had played all of them? Like,
• 1:10:32
Speaker 6: you could make an argument they wouldn't have won the
• 1:10:34
Speaker 6: first game if Drake may had played it.
• 1:10:37
Speaker 2: But how about this scenario, they'd be better prepared for
• 1:10:42
Speaker 2: this last seven games.
• 1:10:45
Speaker 6: I think he would be playing back. I started the
• 1:10:47
Speaker 6: whole thing by saying I would have started Drake May
• 1:10:49
Speaker 6: and we won. And I think you can make an
• 1:10:51
Speaker 6: argument that they would have won the Miami game. Say,
• 1:10:55
Speaker 6: if Drake may had played it, they would have scored
• 1:10:57
Speaker 6: more than ten points in that game. I think you
• 1:10:59
Speaker 6: can make that argument. But I'm just trying to go
• 1:11:03
Speaker 6: off of what he's actually done in the games that
• 1:11:05
Speaker 6: he's played. He won once right, and he kind of
• 1:11:11
Speaker 6: wasn't a huge part of that win. It was kind
• 1:11:13
Speaker 6: of the model that they wanted to have with Jacoby Brissett. Now,
• 1:11:20
Speaker 6: if they had played May right from the start, maybe
• 1:11:23
Speaker 6: you'd be getting a better version of May. Now if
• 1:11:26
Speaker 6: he had these sort of turnovers knocked out of him
• 1:11:30
Speaker 6: in the first four or five weeks, I'm just not
• 1:11:32
Speaker 6: ready to say they would have won more. May overrated,
• 1:11:35
Speaker 6: No May, Perillo, hearts May. That's like if they start
• 1:11:40
Speaker 6: to get I think he's going to be great.
• 1:11:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, if they get made to play on the plus side,
• 1:11:46
Speaker 5: you know, like he did last week in Tennessee with
• 1:11:49
Speaker 5: obviously the defense isn't going to dominate like that, but
• 1:11:52
Speaker 5: with the line play and the play calling and everything
• 1:11:54
Speaker 5: else sort of being what it was against Chicago, Like
• 1:11:57
Speaker 5: now you're cooking with something, Like now you got something going,
• 1:12:01
Speaker 5: but I I just in order to feel like it's sustainable,
• 1:12:04
Speaker 5: like I need Drake to play a little bit better
• 1:12:05
Speaker 5: than that, and I need the rest of it to
• 1:12:07
Speaker 5: stay the same. Like that's when you know that you
• 1:12:09
Speaker 5: have something, you know, brewing with the offense until that point.
• 1:12:12
Speaker 2: Being in Fresno, now from now to the end of
• 1:12:14
Speaker 2: the season. Would you rather see continuous improvement from the
• 1:12:18
Speaker 2: entire coaching staff but Drake plateaus at his current level,
• 1:12:22
Speaker 2: or the reverse, Drake continuously improved moves but the coaching
• 1:12:26
Speaker 2: staff stagnates where they're currently at. That's a tough question.
• 1:12:30
Speaker 5: I don't know why I need to pick either of
• 1:12:32
  Speaker 5: those options.
• 1:12:32
Speaker 2: I mean, I'd rather see Drake continue to get better.
• 1:12:35
Speaker 6: Probably that's the bottom line, right I think if Drake
• 1:12:37
Speaker 6: continues to get better, it's gonna lift the coaching staff with.
• 1:12:40
Speaker 2: Him, right, Yeah, it's hard to Yeah, so I'll take
• 1:12:43
Speaker 2: that back at TPX Hotline, Dan Beach, what's up, Danny?
• 1:12:52
Speaker 17: Yes, Okay, Well I just got to, uh two takes
• 1:12:57
Speaker 17: for you guys today. What do you guys think about
• 1:13:01
Speaker 17: the Patriots. They're being linked by Bleacher Report to uh,
• 1:13:05
Speaker 17: you know, Malcolm Koon, the pass rusher from adult uh
• 1:13:09
Speaker 17: you know, from the Raiders. I know he's coming off
• 1:13:12
Speaker 17: the season where he was injured, but they're saying that
• 1:13:15
Speaker 17: they think the Patriots should go after this guy. I
• 1:13:19
Speaker 17: don't think it's the greatest idea, but I think maybe
• 1:13:21
Speaker 17: it's a low upside. Maybe they get a good return
• 1:13:24
Speaker 17: next season for twenty cents, just because we really don't
• 1:13:27
Speaker 17: have anybody out there on the edge. And then the
• 1:13:30
Speaker 17: other thing is what do you think about the Patriots.
• 1:13:34
Speaker 17: I think would help Alex van Pete would be getting
• 1:13:38
Speaker 17: a legit passing game coordinator like the Chiefs and the
• 1:13:42
Speaker 17: Rams and the forty nine ers have. They have a
• 1:13:45
Speaker 17: lot of these guys that are you know, under studies,
• 1:13:48
Speaker 17: that are really good at creating the passing game. I
• 1:13:51
Speaker 17: think that would probably help these receivers knowing their assignments
• 1:13:55
Speaker 17: and doing what they're supposed to do. And it would
• 1:13:58
Speaker 17: help Alex van Pelte with his coordination of the of
• 1:14:01
Speaker 17: the scheme of the wide zone.
• 1:14:06
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean to the Coons that he's hurt. I'm
• 1:14:09
Speaker 5: assumingans next off areator who Malcolm Kuhn say, he's like
• 1:14:14
Speaker 5: a josh uj type, you know, like a no but
• 1:14:17
Speaker 5: linked to him, I report potential targets and okay, yeah, no,
• 1:14:22
Speaker 5: It's it was more of.
• 1:14:23
  Speaker 6: Like a I hadn't I just I don't know, I
• 1:14:27
Speaker 6: didn't know that report.
• 1:14:28
  Speaker 4: I don't know. I just heard you say, and I
• 1:14:30
Speaker 4: just say, generally, i'd like to get a three down player.
• 1:14:32
Speaker 4: I'm want to get away from third down pass rush specialists.
• 1:14:36
Speaker 4: It just those guys are you can find them when
• 1:14:39
  Speaker 4: you need them.
• 1:14:39
  Speaker 2: You'd rather have t J.
• 1:14:40
Speaker 6: I'll take a third down pass rush specialist if that's
• 1:14:43
Speaker 6: what he is, well, I take him.
• 1:14:45
Speaker 4: If I'm trying to build a team, like I'm not
• 1:14:47
Speaker 4: like that's a priority. I gotta role player totally. Like
• 1:14:51
Speaker 4: the priority for the off season for me is you
• 1:14:53
Speaker 4: got to find a good edge you can play every
• 1:14:56
  Speaker 4: single down.
• 1:14:57
Speaker 6: Yeah, but they don't really have those, Like those aren't
• 1:15:00
Speaker 6: really available, and that that that becomes an all pro
• 1:15:04
Speaker 6: Like a really good edge rusher who can play well
• 1:15:07
Speaker 6: on all three downs. That that's that's pie in the sky.
• 1:15:14
Speaker 6: Like I totally agree with you, like a like just
• 1:15:17
Speaker 6: a third down pass rush specialist, way low on the
• 1:15:20
Speaker 6: you know, we need wide receivers, we need tackles, we
• 1:15:23
Speaker 6: need edge you know, corners, like we need a lot
• 1:15:26
Speaker 6: of stuff. We need some depth at linebacker. There's a
• 1:15:29
Speaker 6: lot of things they need. But if you had, like
• 1:15:32
Speaker 6: let's say, a von Miller type like three years ago,
• 1:15:36
Speaker 6: four years ago, future famer.
• 1:15:38
Speaker 2: No, but what I'm saying is he's no longer that
• 1:15:41
Speaker 2: I'm not saying von Miller in Denver. Yeah, I'm saying
• 1:15:44
Speaker 2: von Miller with like the rams, like he was well
• 1:15:47
Speaker 2: past his prime, but you could put him in on
• 1:15:49
  Speaker 2: third down.
• 1:15:50
Speaker 6: He's going to impact the game. I take that.
• 1:15:52
  Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I take that. I take it. I
• 1:15:54
Speaker 4: feel like that's a finishing piece though, And like you,
• 1:15:56
  Speaker 4: that's why I.
• 1:15:57
Speaker 6: Said, You've got a lot of things in place. But
• 1:15:59
Speaker 6: I'm not anti oushe because he's just a one down player.
• 1:16:03
  Speaker 6: I don't think he's very good at that. If I
• 1:16:06
Speaker 6: thought he was an exceptional pass rusher, I wouldn't have
• 1:16:09
Speaker 6: been willing to trade.
• 1:16:10
Speaker 2: Him for Abundanceway can I can?
• 1:16:14
Speaker 5: I can I give offer you?
• 1:16:18
  Speaker 15: No? No?
• 1:16:18
  Speaker 7: No, go ahead?
• 1:16:19
Speaker 6: What do you think? Yeah? I have no interest, but
• 1:16:22
  Speaker 6: you don't have any interest because I don't think he's
• 1:16:24
Speaker 6: that guy anymore. Like it's just like I wouldn't want
• 1:16:27
Speaker 6: von Miller now. I mean, I know Buffalo uses him
• 1:16:29
Speaker 6: and they try to get to see him chasing cars.
• 1:16:32
Speaker 5: The thing that worries me about in Gokway is that
• 1:16:34
Speaker 5: he is notoriously known for running past the quarterback. And
• 1:16:37
Speaker 5: they just finally had a game where they did it right,
• 1:16:40
Speaker 5: and it's just like, all right, well, now we're going
• 1:16:42
Speaker 5: to put this guy and he's gonna be ten yards
• 1:16:43
Speaker 5: past the quarterback and I'm going to hear Bill.
• 1:16:46
Speaker 6: So let me ask you about in Goway in drid
• 1:16:49
Speaker 6: Mayo yesterday, would you guys? It seemed like there was
• 1:16:53
Speaker 6: a couple of questions that were dancing around have you
• 1:16:56
Speaker 6: actually spoken to him? And does he want to be here?
• 1:16:58
Speaker 2: Yeah? What did you?
• 1:16:59
Speaker 6: How did you take the answers?
• 1:17:01
  Speaker 11: Uh?
• 1:17:02
  Speaker 5: Lukewarm?
• 1:17:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, well agree, It's interesting that the question was asked somebody,
• 1:17:06
Speaker 2: does somebody know something and that's why they asked the question.
• 1:17:09
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 1:17:09
Speaker 6: Well, the immediate speculation was, how's that going to go
• 1:17:12
Speaker 6: over with him? He's going to go from the first
• 1:17:14
Speaker 6: place Ravens to the last place Patriots.
• 1:17:16
Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, the end of his car Siberia.
• 1:17:19
Speaker 6: And if they had just released him a week earlier,
• 1:17:20
Speaker 6: he would have been able to pick where he went. Well,
• 1:17:23
Speaker 6: but released this week, man, he is subject to waivers
• 1:17:26
Speaker 6: and the Patriots with.
• 1:17:27
Speaker 4: Tops of players, well on they go six and one.
• 1:17:28
Speaker 4: Maybe he knocked the Ravens off as revenge.
• 1:17:30
Speaker 5: Hobbly that well, I was more offering that maybe you
• 1:17:33
Speaker 5: get him another contract next off season, like if he's
• 1:17:37
Speaker 5: gonna play on third down for the Patriots and he
• 1:17:39
Speaker 5: has some sacks down there.
• 1:17:40
Speaker 6: If he does that, if he provides them, like just
• 1:17:43
Speaker 6: a third down pass rusher, you know. I know Girod
• 1:17:45
  Speaker 6: said he's an every down player. I don't think he's
• 1:17:47
Speaker 6: ever really been that. I know he's probably played on
• 1:17:50
Speaker 6: every down, but he's a pass rusher, like like Kevin said,
• 1:17:53
Speaker 6: he's a guy who generally ends up behind the quarterback.
• 1:17:56
Speaker 6: In Jacksonville five years ago, he was an impact player.
• 1:17:59
Speaker 6: I really liked the player specifically. I thought he was
• 1:18:03
Speaker 6: a really really good pass rusher. He's been on like
• 1:18:06
Speaker 6: five teams since and hasn't really had the production. He
• 1:18:08
Speaker 6: was nothing last year in Chicago, he was nothing this
• 1:18:11
Speaker 6: year in Baltimore. I think he had a decent year
• 1:18:13
Speaker 6: with the Colts. I want to say, like four years ago,
• 1:18:16
  Speaker 6: three years ago.
• 1:18:18
Speaker 5: But he does the flying cross chop and it looks cool.
• 1:18:21
  Speaker 15: You know.
• 1:18:22
Speaker 6: Really, I really like the player, and if that's what
• 1:18:24
Speaker 6: he get, if all of a sudden, he he can
• 1:18:25
Speaker 6: go in on third down and impact the passer, I
• 1:18:28
Speaker 6: wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back in that role
• 1:18:30
  Speaker 6: next year.
• 1:18:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I was just in general, does any team, Yeah,
• 1:18:33
Speaker 5: if he puts some good tape out there, like That's
• 1:18:36
Speaker 5: how I would hope that he approaches it, is that
• 1:18:39
Speaker 5: I'm actually going to play here because who else? So
• 1:18:41
Speaker 5: they really have right, right, and so I'm actually going
• 1:18:43
Speaker 5: to play. And you know, if I have four or
• 1:18:45
Speaker 5: five sacks, even if they're cleanup sacks, they still count,
• 1:18:48
Speaker 5: and you know, yeah exactly, and then you'll you'll go
• 1:18:51
Speaker 5: out and maybe you'll get some money next off season,
• 1:18:53
Speaker 5: at least get another contract.
• 1:18:54
Speaker 4: Still just twenty nine. I thought that was those like, wow, yeah,
• 1:18:57
Speaker 4: it's just makes He's been around forever, one of those guys,
• 1:18:59
Speaker 4: you know, he's like somebody that always I felt like
• 1:19:01
Speaker 4: Patriots fans always kind of wanted for.
• 1:19:04
Speaker 2: Because he was really good and that Jacksonville team that
• 1:19:07
Speaker 2: took the Patriots to the wire in the AFC Championship game.
• 1:19:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, and he's really good in the game in nineteen
• 1:19:11
Speaker 5: two down there or eighteen, I should say, the regular
• 1:19:14
Speaker 5: season game the following season, I uh. The caller asked
• 1:19:19
Speaker 5: the second question though, about like bringing in like a
• 1:19:21
Speaker 5: pass game coordinator or something like that next offseason.
• 1:19:24
Speaker 6: Evan's available besides me, of course.
• 1:19:26
Speaker 5: I will put my name in the running, but I
• 1:19:29
Speaker 5: wouldn't be opposed to something along those lines of like
• 1:19:33
Speaker 5: somebody just to come in and design cool stuff, you know,
• 1:19:36
Speaker 5: like for the offense, and more of a guy whose
• 1:19:39
Speaker 5: specialty is in play design, not necessarily coaching up, like
• 1:19:43
Speaker 5: fundamentals and things like that. I think they've done a
• 1:19:45
Speaker 5: decent job improving over the course of the season and
• 1:19:49
Speaker 5: some of the like the fundamentals and the coaching aspect
• 1:19:53
Speaker 5: from that standpoint, but they could use a little sprucing
• 1:19:56
Speaker 5: up in terms of the scheme. So maybe they can
• 1:19:58
Speaker 5: find somebody that maybe somebody from college or something like
• 1:20:01
Speaker 5: that that can come in and bring in some new stuff.
• 1:20:04
Speaker 2: Boston Cream's on the line. What's up, Boston Cream?
• 1:20:08
Speaker 8: Hey guys, Paul, do you mind if I pick your memory.
• 1:20:11
Speaker 7: Here for a second.
• 1:20:12
Speaker 6: I'll try to help.
• 1:20:15
Speaker 8: What was the Patriots record in the first eleven weeks
• 1:20:17
  Speaker 8: of two thousand?
• 1:20:20
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I don't know two thousand.
• 1:20:23
Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, big eleven.
• 1:20:25
Speaker 6: I think three and seven.
• 1:20:29
Speaker 8: Well that'd be ten, but yeah, there was three and eight.
• 1:20:33
Speaker 6: Okay, they didn't finish a Bill Belichick trajectory. Yeah, that
• 1:20:41
Speaker 6: two thousand season was the worst. That was the worst season.
• 1:20:45
Speaker 2: Thanks really, thanks though they were terrible.
• 1:20:47
Speaker 6: That's the that's the year that they didn't keep fifty
• 1:20:49
Speaker 6: three players because Bill said we didn't have them. Now,
• 1:20:53
Speaker 6: part of that was that was a billism because I'm
• 1:20:55
Speaker 6: smarter than everybody else, and I'm not just gonna adhere
• 1:20:58
Speaker 6: to your your your societal norms and have fifty three
• 1:21:01
Speaker 6: players on my team because you say, I'm supposed to
• 1:21:04
Speaker 6: write right. Part of it was that, but that was
• 1:21:06
  Speaker 6: a bad team.
• 1:21:07
Speaker 4: But you guys were here, So I mean, what was
• 1:21:09
Speaker 4: your kind of feeling when that team ended in ninety
• 1:21:12
Speaker 4: nine of what they needed to do and then you
• 1:21:15
Speaker 4: hear that from Bill? Did that sound to you guys
• 1:21:17
Speaker 4: like we're not that bad?
• 1:21:19
Speaker 2: Or I mean, did that ring?
• 1:21:20
Speaker 6: They were going and they they were gett No, like
• 1:21:23
Speaker 6: the there was a lot of key players from the
• 1:21:28
Speaker 6: ninety six Super Bowl team that were on the downward trajectory,
• 1:21:32
Speaker 6: like Bruce Armstrong, Ben Coates, Chris Slade, you know, like
• 1:21:37
Speaker 6: that's where you were in two thousand Bloods. Yeah no,
• 1:21:41
Speaker 6: but like you're right, I mean, I have to be
• 1:21:43
Speaker 6: fair about it. Drew Bledsoe wasn't as good in two
• 1:21:46
Speaker 6: thousand as he wasn't ninety six.
• 1:21:47
Speaker 5: It was running like a wild wildebeast, a wounded which.
• 1:21:53
Speaker 6: Makes even makes me laugh. They were going but like
• 1:21:59
Speaker 6: they had, I mean, they certainly had the nucleus of
• 1:22:02
Speaker 6: what ended up being the first dynasty, Bruce Ki, Johnson,
• 1:22:08
Speaker 6: Law Malloyd. They had a lot of McGinnis. They had
• 1:22:10
Speaker 6: a lot of good players still, but they also had
• 1:22:12
Speaker 6: a lot of key players that were on the back nine.
• 1:22:15
Speaker 6: And Bill either kept him around for another year or
• 1:22:19
Speaker 6: pulled the plug on him that year, and they they
• 1:22:22
Speaker 6: tried to reset. Now the biggest difference they signed and
• 1:22:25
Speaker 6: I want to say twenty one free agents, Yeah, and
• 1:22:27
Speaker 6: they brought for the twenty one.
• 1:22:29
Speaker 2: He brought in his guys like Anthony Pleasant and Bobby Hamilton,
• 1:22:33
Speaker 2: and these weren't like Ricklers, but these are guys that
• 1:22:36
Speaker 2: he knew I could depend on on defense.
• 1:22:39
  Speaker 6: Otis Smith.
• 1:22:40
Speaker 5: The other one, yeah, was remand Fier already on the team.
• 1:22:43
Speaker 2: Him. He was one of the he was one of
• 1:22:45
Speaker 2: the free agents because he was living in California.
• 1:22:47
Speaker 6: Well that was later, but that was he but he
• 1:22:49
Speaker 6: signed him. And I want to say June or July. Yeah,
• 1:22:53
Speaker 6: they signed Antoine Smith at that time too. I remember
• 1:22:55
Speaker 6: we're at your house. We were at your house for
• 1:22:58
Speaker 6: a for a kershapalooza. Is that right, and Bears came
• 1:23:01
Speaker 6: in and told us we had signed h Antoine Smith. Okay,
• 1:23:04
Speaker 6: and we were mad because we didn't know if they
• 1:23:07
Speaker 6: meant we had to get out of the pool and
• 1:23:08
  Speaker 6: righte up.
• 1:23:10
Speaker 4: How did you guys feel though, comparatively to just with
• 1:23:14
Speaker 4: the new coaching staff that year in two thousand, kind
• 1:23:16
Speaker 4: of compared to what we've seen this year where I
• 1:23:18
Speaker 4: know Bill had coached before, he had a lot of
• 1:23:20
Speaker 4: experienced coaches, but did you feel like this is a
• 1:23:23
Speaker 4: new coaching staff, things were a little going to take
• 1:23:25
Speaker 4: a little time to come together.
• 1:23:27
Speaker 6: It was a definite rebuild, Like that was not a
• 1:23:29
Speaker 6: good team in ninety nine. Yeah they Okay, I took
• 1:23:35
Speaker 6: a shot at my guy. Yeah before now I'm going
• 1:23:38
Speaker 6: to come back. They won games because Drew was unbelievable
• 1:23:40
Speaker 6: in the first half of the year and then all
• 1:23:42
Speaker 6: of a sudden, he wasn't unbelievable anymore. He was not
• 1:23:45
Speaker 6: winning games by himself. They also Pete. The whole dynamic
• 1:23:53
Speaker 6: with Pete and the guys going up the backstairs was real.
• 1:23:55
Speaker 6: It was real, and that was a problem. It was
• 1:23:58
Speaker 6: kind of like what you saw with Chicago the other day,
• 1:24:00
  Speaker 6: Like that's a team that doesn't believe in it's it's coaching,
• 1:24:04
Speaker 6: and you could you could see the body language a
• 1:24:06
Speaker 6: guy like Dj Moore, I think is a pretty good
• 1:24:08
Speaker 6: player and a pretty good pro. He looks like he
• 1:24:11
Speaker 6: has no desire to be on the field at all,
• 1:24:14
Speaker 6: every like every play. I don't know if it's just
• 1:24:17
Speaker 6: Caleb Williams and he just like this kid, This kid
• 1:24:19
Speaker 6: doesn't get it. I don't want to play for this kid,
• 1:24:21
Speaker 6: or if it's the coach, or if it's the departed
• 1:24:24
Speaker 6: offensive coordinator, which who decided. I'm not even going to
• 1:24:27
Speaker 6: try to throw the ball down the field in this game,
• 1:24:29
  Speaker 6: which obviously would.
• 1:24:30
Speaker 5: The one time Gonzo kind of got beaten this game
• 1:24:34
Speaker 5: was on a go route by DJ Moore and he
• 1:24:37
Speaker 5: was open and Caleb was staring at it and just
• 1:24:39
Speaker 5: wouldn't throw it. And I've been watching Dj Moore since
• 1:24:42
Speaker 5: college and he's a dog with the good kind like
• 1:24:46
Speaker 5: so to see yeah, to see him kind of just
• 1:24:48
Speaker 5: like tap out like he has a couple of weeks
• 1:24:51
  Speaker 5: is shocking.
• 1:24:53
Speaker 2: That cast of coaches back in the Pete Carroll that
• 1:24:56
Speaker 2: was an interesting cast of characters that they had. You know,
• 1:25:01
Speaker 2: so Larry's MPZ, but it was Larry Larry Cannon before that,
• 1:25:08
Speaker 2: and who was the guy that from Saved by the Bell?
• 1:25:11
Speaker 2: They called him Screech Screech. It was like the I
• 1:25:15
Speaker 2: think it was the wide receivers coach, Curly Hair. Remember him,
• 1:25:19
Speaker 2: I don't remember him. It was a weird and bo
• 1:25:22
Speaker 2: Polini has hated us.
• 1:25:26
Speaker 6: The whole paper. It's just one big critique.
• 1:25:28
Speaker 2: Well who was it? He saw.
• 1:25:32
  Speaker 4: Negative?
• 1:25:32
Speaker 2: This is back in the old stadium, and he saw
• 1:25:34
Speaker 2: Maury in the mail room and you know, he's going
• 1:25:37
Speaker 2: to get our mail and both Polini walks in and
• 1:25:40
Speaker 2: he sees more He goes, hey, who are who signs
• 1:25:44
Speaker 2: your checks? And Morey's like the same guy that signs yours,
• 1:25:48
Speaker 2: Robert Craft. He goes, I ain't that a kick in
• 1:25:50
  Speaker 2: the head.
• 1:25:52
Speaker 6: So and of course Brian didn't just let it go
• 1:25:56
Speaker 6: in front of him, and that's when he found out
• 1:25:57
Speaker 6: that the whole thing just negative, one big critique, which
• 1:26:03
Speaker 6: which was like, I was like, what did I get
• 1:26:05
Speaker 6: so wrong? You know, especially in those days, right, I
• 1:26:10
Speaker 6: was still on board in those days, but.
• 1:26:13
Speaker 2: Like you know, it was an interesting crew of coaches
• 1:26:17
Speaker 2: that Steve Sidwell was a really good guy.
• 1:26:19
  Speaker 6: Defensive coordinator.
• 1:26:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he had the really deep voice. Larry. I
• 1:26:24
Speaker 2: keeps calling him Larry, and he would come.
• 1:26:27
Speaker 6: Out in the cigarette.
• 1:26:28
Speaker 2: He wear this like the Loore sweatsuit. It was literally
• 1:26:31
Speaker 2: the Loore. He looked like he was like on the
• 1:26:34
Speaker 2: back door of the old stadium. Was this like green
• 1:26:37
Speaker 2: astro turf on the steps and he'd come out and
• 1:26:40
Speaker 2: stand on that green AstroTurf and bare feet smoking his
• 1:26:43
  Speaker 2: cigarette and like.
• 1:26:45
Speaker 6: With Rick Ames, Yeah, our old webmaster was Rick Ernie's
• 1:26:50
Speaker 6: in ps and and Eddie Duckworth smoking bus just smoking. Yeah,
• 1:26:56
Speaker 6: would to be outside.
• 1:26:58
Speaker 2: And Velora's sweatsuit. It was an odd Yeah, you don't
• 1:27:04
  Speaker 2: remember Screech.
• 1:27:05
Speaker 6: No, but I'm I don't remember anybody that referred to
• 1:27:09
  Speaker 6: as that.
• 1:27:09
Speaker 2: I probably would remember the name of the guy was
• 1:27:11
Speaker 2: ninety nine one of those years. Yeah, he was a
• 1:27:15
Speaker 2: little guy with like curly hair. Anyway, while you look
• 1:27:19
Speaker 2: at that Dan and Virginia Michigan rights in with a
• 1:27:23
Speaker 2: VP McAdoo and the other coaches on the offfensive side
• 1:27:25
Speaker 2: of the ball, you think that there would be someone
• 1:27:28
Speaker 2: who could explain to me the difference between his head
• 1:27:30
Speaker 2: and his feet and which one should go first when
• 1:27:33
Speaker 2: he QB slides are the Bears fans one of the
• 1:27:37
Speaker 2: few sets of fans that are tougher on their teams
• 1:27:40
Speaker 2: than those in Boston. It seems to take only a
• 1:27:42
Speaker 2: few Chicago offensive drives before daboos started coming for dub Airs.
• 1:27:48
Speaker 4: What was that, like, you guys in the press conference,
• 1:27:49
Speaker 4: did you feel like the atmosphere turned on him quick?
• 1:27:51
Speaker 2: We heard it did. But that's that's as much an
• 1:27:55
Speaker 2: indictment on our team as it is the Bears, because
• 1:27:58
Speaker 2: they felt exactly exactly, so we should take that as
• 1:28:04
Speaker 2: an insult as well.
• 1:28:05
Speaker 5: But I also just think that, you know, to say,
• 1:28:07
Speaker 5: it only took a future like this has been brewing
• 1:28:09
  Speaker 5: in Chicago.
• 1:28:10
Speaker 2: First. Yeah, they came into this game like you better
• 1:28:13
Speaker 2: beat these guys as soon as they Yeah.
• 1:28:16
Speaker 5: I mean this was like the hail Maryland.
• 1:28:18
Speaker 6: Carl Smith, Carl Smith tight ends coach. Yeah, Carl, I
• 1:28:22
Speaker 6: remember the hair now, Carl Smith.
• 1:28:23
  Speaker 2: Carl Smith crazy.
• 1:28:28
Speaker 5: There were people that so they don't call him Eberflus,
• 1:28:31
Speaker 5: they just call him fluse Flus fire flus is the
• 1:28:35
Speaker 5: is the chant. And then like the third and fourth
• 1:28:37
Speaker 5: quarter that was quite loud. You could you could hear
• 1:28:42
Speaker 5: it pretty clear, John.
• 1:28:44
Speaker 2: Writes in calling Paul out for capping every week. Yeah,
• 1:28:49
Speaker 2: at this point, I wish Paul would give the nod
• 1:28:51
Speaker 2: each game rather win or lose, because after every game
• 1:28:54
Speaker 2: he says the game is over at this point or
• 1:28:56
Speaker 2: that point, when in reality, if he never actually gives
• 1:28:59
Speaker 2: the nod, he could never be wrong. You slick son
• 1:29:02
Speaker 2: of a gun. I love what you're doing.
• 1:29:04
  Speaker 6: Thanks guy.
• 1:29:04
Speaker 2: Also side note, Evan or Mike, can you tell me
• 1:29:07
Speaker 2: how Gonzo actually did Sunday? We can't see on TV copy,
• 1:29:12
Speaker 2: so wonder if he actually played well or Caleb just
• 1:29:14
  Speaker 2: wasn't seeing it.
• 1:29:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I thought he played really well. I
• 1:29:19
Speaker 4: mean it's just even some of the throws where I
• 1:29:22
Speaker 4: or you know, plays where it felt like the coverage
• 1:29:25
Speaker 4: was little bit, they were still right there, you know,
• 1:29:27
Speaker 4: Like it's just there's just certain days where it's like, man,
• 1:29:29
Speaker 4: you're matching up well, you're running with these guys. You've
• 1:29:31
Speaker 4: got a good feel for what they're doing, and that's
• 1:29:33
Speaker 4: that's what it felt like. I wish you could feel
• 1:29:35
Speaker 4: like that every week. And I mean, I don't even
• 1:29:36
Speaker 4: think with the Belichick Patriots it was you know, oh
• 1:29:39
Speaker 4: every week where you felt like, oh, it's all just
• 1:29:41
Speaker 4: matched up and you know, they're all picking each other up,
• 1:29:44
Speaker 4: and I mean that was the vibe that that they
• 1:29:46
Speaker 4: had going this week, and that's you know, it's it's
• 1:29:48
Speaker 4: hard to replicate. And I mean, I just I'd love
• 1:29:51
Speaker 4: nothing more though than see Jeremiah Farms come out next
• 1:29:53
Speaker 4: this week and follow it up, follow it up, and
• 1:29:55
Speaker 4: build off of it, because we saw some of that
• 1:29:57
Speaker 4: stuff from him this summer. You know, we saw some
• 1:29:59
Speaker 4: of this disruptive stuff from the defense this summer, and
• 1:30:02
Speaker 4: I think at the time we were just like, they're
• 1:30:04
Speaker 4: being so aggressive in the preseason, but you know, I
• 1:30:06
Speaker 4: think they have it in them to dominate and to
• 1:30:09
Speaker 4: play with energy like that just to keep it doing.
• 1:30:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought I thought Gonzo was good. I mentioned
• 1:30:15
Speaker 5: that go up by Moore was probably the one time
• 1:30:17
Speaker 5: I jotted down that he got truly beat on a play.
• 1:30:21
Speaker 5: And Jonathan Jones, who at some point we'll probably talk about, is,
• 1:30:26
Speaker 5: you know, his role is kind of changing a little bit.
• 1:30:28
Speaker 5: He's playing a little bit more safety now than he
• 1:30:30
Speaker 5: has in the past, and so he was playing up
• 1:30:32
Speaker 5: top on the play and he was cheating over to
• 1:30:35
Speaker 5: that side, and I think Caleb just wasn't one hundred
• 1:30:37
Speaker 5: percent sold that he could get it there before Jones
• 1:30:41
Speaker 5: came over, so yeah, he was holding it. But you know,
• 1:30:46
Speaker 5: Gonzo also has a really good job of closing when
• 1:30:50
Speaker 5: the ball's in the air. So sometimes when it looks
• 1:30:53
Speaker 5: like he's like initially beat, if he doesn't actually get targeted,
• 1:30:56
Speaker 5: you're like, Okay, well it's a crossing route, like he
• 1:30:58
Speaker 5: might have been able to just undercut this and get
• 1:31:01
Speaker 5: into the passing lane.
• 1:31:02
Speaker 2: So the good corners can do that.
• 1:31:04
Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, but he's effortless out there. I mean, that's
• 1:31:07
Speaker 5: the one thing that definitely stands.
• 1:31:08
Speaker 6: Out, David, if do like the guy recognizing my brilliance, though,
• 1:31:10
Speaker 6: oh sure, I will just say that I do not
• 1:31:13
Speaker 6: give the negative nod, right, Oh no, never, not one.
• 1:31:17
Speaker 6: I do not publicly give the negative nod.
• 1:31:20
Speaker 2: David in Madrid, right sin? Where could be a game
• 1:31:24
Speaker 2: soon from the NFL in Madrid. Three reasons why I
• 1:31:27
Speaker 2: would give this coaching staff another year. One, we saw
• 1:31:30
Speaker 2: last week how the Chicago Bears are ruining their quarterback
• 1:31:34
Speaker 2: and how far from that Drake May is, even after
• 1:31:37
Speaker 2: playing his worst as a starter in that game. Okay. Two, Ever,
• 1:31:41
Speaker 2: since Male called the team soft, they've answered back with
• 1:31:44
Speaker 2: two out of three wins and a loss in ot Obviously,
• 1:31:47
Speaker 2: the play wasn't good versus Jets and Titans, but the
• 1:31:49
Speaker 2: talent isn't good either. I believe the players have proven
• 1:31:52
Speaker 2: that they are playing four male and versus the Bears
• 1:31:55
Speaker 2: with the run working. We saw how AVP has shown
• 1:31:58
Speaker 2: better play calling and scheme. And three, I really don't
• 1:32:02
Speaker 2: think that the Jets win has talked about enough in
• 1:32:04
Speaker 2: the sense that after being crushed twenty four to three,
• 1:32:07
Speaker 2: they rewatched the film, saw what went wrong with their
• 1:32:09
Speaker 2: schemes informations, and came out with a good enough game
• 1:32:12
Speaker 2: plan to stay close and give the Jets a chance
• 1:32:15
Speaker 2: to do what they always do. Finally, I think this
• 1:32:18
Speaker 2: Rams game is huge. If they can pull off of
• 1:32:20
Speaker 2: w then they will beat the Dolphins, beat the Colts,
• 1:32:24
Speaker 2: and lose to the Cardinals because Chad Ryland kicks the
• 1:32:26
Speaker 2: last second field goal.
• 1:32:28
Speaker 5: There's absolutely zero chance in my mind that Gerard Mayo
• 1:32:32
Speaker 5: is not the coach of the Patriots in twenty twenty five.
• 1:32:35
Speaker 5: Are so not to like about the rest of the
• 1:32:37
Speaker 5: guys rag on the emailer but like this coaching like
• 1:32:41
Speaker 5: Mayo is not going anywhere. I don't think I agree
• 1:32:43
  Speaker 5: with that.
• 1:32:44
  Speaker 6: I totally agree.
• 1:32:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all. Let's go to the team.
• 1:32:49
Speaker 6: And I don't really care what happens in other places,
• 1:32:51
Speaker 6: Like I don't think that Matty Eberflus is ruining Caleb Williams.
• 1:32:55
Speaker 6: I think Caleb Williams is no, I not playing one.
• 1:32:58
Speaker 2: I would hope that a VP stays just for the
• 1:33:03
Speaker 2: continuity for Drake, but what if he's not good? Right,
• 1:33:06
Speaker 2: So what I'm saying is I hope that a VP
• 1:33:09
Speaker 2: shows that he should stay.
• 1:33:10
Speaker 6: Oh, okay, that's different. I do hope he's a good coordinator.
• 1:33:14
Speaker 5: Me too, I still stay stay in the same place
• 1:33:17
Speaker 5: with a VP. I think AVP is a good quarterbacks coach.
• 1:33:20
Speaker 5: I'm not sure he's a good coordinator. And those are
• 1:33:23
Speaker 5: obviously two very different things. And at this stage of
• 1:33:26
  Speaker 5: Drake May's career, like, I'm okay having a coach that's
• 1:33:30
Speaker 5: a little bit more towards the QB coach side of things,
• 1:33:33
Speaker 5: because Drake needs the development now. At some point in time,
• 1:33:36
Speaker 5: they're going to need to be more innovative schematically, Like
• 1:33:39
Speaker 5: there will be a time and place for that.
• 1:33:40
  Speaker 6: I just don't think it's now, And I think he's
• 1:33:42
Speaker 6: done a good job with Drake just in terms of development.
• 1:33:45
Speaker 6: I think that's the number one priority this year, and
• 1:33:47
Speaker 6: I've seen a lot of improvement from when I first
• 1:33:49
Speaker 6: saw Drake May in the spring to now. Now I
• 1:33:52
Speaker 6: understand that the guy is immensely talented and he probably
• 1:33:55
Speaker 6: deserves the Lion's share of the credit for Drake May's
• 1:33:59
Speaker 6: development should go to Drake May. I get that, but
• 1:34:02
Speaker 6: whatever Van Pelt is doing is got to at least
• 1:34:05
Speaker 6: be helping, and I think he deserves some credit for that.
• 1:34:08
Speaker 2: Keith's and Burlington on the TPX outline, what's up, Keith, Keith, Kevin, Kevin, Oh, Kevin,
• 1:34:16
  Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Kevin.
• 1:34:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, words are hard, words are hard.
• 1:34:20
Speaker 8: I just want to follow up on something Fred talked
• 1:34:22
Speaker 8: about a couple of weeks back about Check not be
• 1:34:26
Speaker 8: willing to sort of tutor and mentor draw Mayo for
• 1:34:29
Speaker 8: the succession role, because it reminded me of Josh McDaniels
• 1:34:35
Speaker 8: when he turned down the Colts at like the eleventh
• 1:34:37
Speaker 8: hour and came back, and all the reports at the
• 1:34:40
Speaker 8: time were about how Bill was going to sort of
• 1:34:43
Speaker 8: mentor him and tutor him, but a lot of people
• 1:34:45
Speaker 8: thought that Josh was going to be the successor. So
• 1:34:47
Speaker 8: is that sort of why Crafted. After McDaniels left and
• 1:34:52
Speaker 8: after twenty twenty one, Craft picked Mayo to sort of
• 1:34:57
Speaker 8: build that void, and for some reason, Belichick declined to
• 1:35:02
Speaker 8: do that for Mayo even though he did it for McDaniels.
• 1:35:06
  Speaker 2: I have no idea. I really don't. I don't know.
• 1:35:11
Speaker 5: I don't know where that's coming from specifically two past years.
• 1:35:16
Speaker 5: Like I know, there's a lot of reporting out there
• 1:35:19
Speaker 5: about how it ended in terms of like this last
• 1:35:22
Speaker 5: year with Bill and then into now. Obviously Bill, I'm
• 1:35:25
Speaker 5: sure or is not on Girod's speed dial to ask
• 1:35:27
Speaker 5: him for advice right now. But going back to when
• 1:35:31
Speaker 5: McDaniels left and all this started to come to fruition,
• 1:35:34
Speaker 5: Gerrod was getting more responsibility behind the scenes in that
• 1:35:39
Speaker 5: like sort of head coach and waiting, you know, Bill's
• 1:35:42
Speaker 5: mentor sort of thing, you know, being in on interviews
• 1:35:45
Speaker 5: for offensive coordinator position scouting, you know, for the draft.
• 1:35:49
Speaker 5: You know, he was went out to Oregon to meet
• 1:35:51
Speaker 5: with Christian Gonzales privately before the draft, you know, little
• 1:35:54
Speaker 5: things like that. So I don't think that that's how
• 1:35:56
Speaker 5: it It might have been how it ended, but I
• 1:35:58
Speaker 5: don't think that that's how it started.
• 1:36:00
Speaker 2: Was Bill giving him that extra responsibility willingly or was
• 1:36:04
Speaker 2: he being forced in?
• 1:36:05
  Speaker 5: I also can't answer that.
• 1:36:06
  Speaker 6: I also don't know. I mean, I know what the
• 1:36:08
Speaker 6: reports are. Yeah, both ways. There was a report that
• 1:36:12
Speaker 6: he was quote opening up his worlds to Josh McDaniels. Yeah,
• 1:36:17
Speaker 6: I don't really think that we really saw any evidence
• 1:36:19
Speaker 6: of that. To be honest with you, I know that
• 1:36:21
Speaker 6: was the report, So I'm not saying that you're making
• 1:36:23
Speaker 6: stuff up. That was the That was absolutely a report
• 1:36:26
Speaker 6: at the time when Robert Kraft last you know, eleventh hour,
• 1:36:30
Speaker 6: convinced Josh McDaniels to not take the coach job and stay.
• 1:36:34
Speaker 6: It was one of the reasons. It was supposedly that
• 1:36:38
Speaker 6: there was an understanding that Bill was going to help
• 1:36:41
Speaker 6: Josh become a better head coach the second time around.
• 1:36:44
Speaker 2: Right, but not necessarily the head coach here.
• 1:36:47
Speaker 6: No, I never heard that, which also leads me to
• 1:36:49
Speaker 6: my second point. If in fact that was true and
• 1:36:52
Speaker 6: Bill was on board with helping Josh become a next
• 1:36:54
Speaker 6: head coach, it's a little different than helping the guy
• 1:36:57
Speaker 6: who has already been determined to be your successor we
• 1:37:01
Speaker 6: know now that Bill didn't want any part of stepping down. Yeah, right, right,
• 1:37:08
Speaker 6: So it stands to reason that he didn't take too
• 1:37:11
Speaker 6: kindly to a guy on his staff that was already
• 1:37:13
Speaker 6: is in hand picked successor.
• 1:37:15
Speaker 5: In contract in writing, hand picked success.
• 1:37:18
  Speaker 2: Right, thanks, Kevin.
• 1:37:20
Speaker 4: Did Bill know that though?
• 1:37:21
Speaker 2: Yes he did, according to According to some it that way,
• 1:37:25
Speaker 2: And according to one thing I heard is that there
• 1:37:30
Speaker 2: there was an agreement that Bill could coach here as
• 1:37:33
Speaker 2: long as he took him to break the record, but
• 1:37:36
Speaker 2: that Mail was going to be the person after that.
• 1:37:40
Speaker 6: So so I can understand if Bill took that and said, Okay,
• 1:37:45
Speaker 6: good luck with that.
• 1:37:46
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:37:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, and we've done that with.
• 1:37:48
Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to go work for Underdog Fantasy.
• 1:37:52
Speaker 6: And I'm going to rip the Patriots every week.
• 1:37:53
  Speaker 5: Right.
• 1:37:53
Speaker 4: I do think we were in Vegas that summer. I
• 1:37:57
Speaker 4: think they asked Josh about this a little bit, and
• 1:37:58
Speaker 4: I do think he kind of said that he was
• 1:38:00
Speaker 4: more involved behind the scenes and that he had learned more.
• 1:38:04
Speaker 4: But I just wonder if that's if Bill was open
• 1:38:06
Speaker 4: to it because he didn't feel like it was going
• 1:38:08
Speaker 4: to be replacing him.
• 1:38:09
  Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
• 1:38:10
Speaker 2: It's different, It's different, It was different. Yeah, Yep. Trent
• 1:38:16
Speaker 2: is in Nebraska. What's up? Trent?
• 1:38:20
Speaker 5: Trent, Trent and Crim Trent Nebraska.
• 1:38:25
Speaker 2: He's not there anymore?
• 1:38:26
Speaker 6: Job hardy? Well, oh well, John goes the water. We
• 1:38:31
Speaker 6: got a mess. What happened my newest better jackknife on
• 1:38:35
Speaker 6: the Santa Ana? What god awful mess?
• 1:38:37
Speaker 2: What movies is from Fletch, Fletch, Fletch, chevy Chase.
• 1:38:43
Speaker 6: Any of my movie references have to be a minimum
• 1:38:45
  Speaker 6: of forty years.
• 1:38:46
Speaker 2: Old, correct. Craig and Charlotte writes in Happy to see
• 1:38:52
Speaker 2: an emerging chemistry with May and Booty. This week felt
• 1:38:55
Speaker 2: like May looked his way for more than just deep shots.
• 1:38:59
Speaker 2: I have a minor knit to pick on Booty, though,
• 1:39:02
Speaker 2: seems like Booty doesn't really make much of an effort
• 1:39:04
Speaker 2: to contest the catch on those deep shots where there's
• 1:39:07
Speaker 2: a defender close. On the overtime interception, he didn't even
• 1:39:10
Speaker 2: try to make a play on the ball, And again
• 1:39:12
Speaker 2: this week on a deep incompletion, seemed like he maybe
• 1:39:15
Speaker 2: made a business decision. It didn't really jump. Just curious
• 1:39:19
Speaker 2: if you've noticed that too, or if I'm overreacting.
• 1:39:22
Speaker 5: Overreacting cool, but that's just me. Like the ball in overtime,
• 1:39:28
Speaker 5: I don't know what he wanted to do. It's ten
• 1:39:30
Speaker 5: yards underthrown. He's like he's going into the end zone. Like, yeah,
• 1:39:34
Speaker 5: I guess in theory he could have stopped, turned around,
• 1:39:37
Speaker 5: be lined for the ball and made like a moss
• 1:39:39
Speaker 5: like play on it. Like sure, I guess, I don't know,
• 1:39:42
Speaker 5: Like I I just I thought both of them were
• 1:39:45
Speaker 5: bad throws. I guess is where I more come on
• 1:39:47
Speaker 5: that that side of it. And I would also kind
• 1:39:50
Speaker 5: of push back about being this go to receiver. Let's
• 1:39:54
Speaker 5: maybe cool to jay that a little bit of chemistry though,
• 1:39:57
Speaker 5: uh trust, a little trust maybe, I think.
• 1:40:00
Speaker 4: I mean, there's a tight one of those pulling the triggers.
• 1:40:04
Speaker 2: Every once in a while, you got to make a
• 1:40:05
  Speaker 2: booty call that.
• 1:40:08
Speaker 5: I just hear that a lot about those Oh booty
• 1:40:11
Speaker 5: didn't even try for it.
• 1:40:12
Speaker 6: I'm like, yeah, I have heard that on the deep balls.
• 1:40:14
Speaker 6: But I kind of do think there's a little bit
• 1:40:17
Speaker 6: of chemistry developing now. I don't know what exactly. I
• 1:40:20
Speaker 6: don't know what the ceiling is for Keishaan Boody. Yeah,
• 1:40:23
Speaker 6: you know, I think that he's been a a good story.
• 1:40:26
Speaker 6: You know, I'll talk about like taking the coaching and
• 1:40:28
Speaker 6: all that. You listen to the way that Mayo and
• 1:40:31
Speaker 6: Van Pelt talked about his emergence and where he was
• 1:40:35
Speaker 6: sort of after, you know, into training camp, like they
• 1:40:38
Speaker 6: didn't even know for sure he was going to be
• 1:40:40
Speaker 6: on the team. And now you can make an argument
• 1:40:42
Speaker 6: that he's the number one receiver, I mean in terms
• 1:40:45
  Speaker 6: of usage anyway.
• 1:40:46
  Speaker 2: Yep.
• 1:40:46
Speaker 6: So I think there's a guy that he had, he
• 1:40:49
Speaker 6: had two choices, and he took the right path.
• 1:40:52
Speaker 5: He is and I think that he's proven that he
• 1:40:56
Speaker 5: belongs in an NFL receiver room. I'm not sure where
• 1:40:59
Speaker 5: in the hierarchy, but he belongs in the NFL receiver room.
• 1:41:02
Speaker 5: And one of the things I really like about Drake
• 1:41:05
Speaker 5: is that like he's not thinking to himself, well, this
• 1:41:08
Speaker 5: guy's not going to make a play on the ball,
• 1:41:09
Speaker 5: Like he just throws the ball where it's supposed to go.
• 1:41:12
Speaker 5: And he's trusting Booty on the other end. And there
• 1:41:15
Speaker 5: are times where he has rewarded him, like to throw
• 1:41:17
Speaker 5: before halftime, like that's in a key hole. And if
• 1:41:21
Speaker 5: you're thinking to yourself, this is Kaysehan Boody, this isn't
• 1:41:24
Speaker 5: you know, prime to Owens. You might not want to
• 1:41:27
Speaker 5: make that throw, but he made it. Anyway, and whody
• 1:41:29
  Speaker 5: rewarded him.
• 1:41:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't know from not trusting guys yet, you
• 1:41:34
Speaker 2: know what I mean. It's just let's see buzzsaw on
• 1:41:38
Speaker 2: the White Mountains rights in. I watched Drake's postgame comments
• 1:41:41
Speaker 2: at the podium and I heard two words I have
• 1:41:44
Speaker 2: never heard from a quarterback before. Bless you. As you
• 1:41:48
Speaker 2: guys mentioned on the postgame show, he blessed someone when
• 1:41:51
Speaker 2: they sneeze. It is a really small thing, I know,
• 1:41:54
Speaker 2: but just shows you a lot about Drake May.
• 1:41:57
Speaker 5: What did you think about him clapping up for the
• 1:41:59
  Speaker 5: defense away.
• 1:42:00
Speaker 6: I think I Brendan's school are an apology.
• 1:42:03
Speaker 2: Who do you think that?
• 1:42:04
Speaker 6: If that warrants back, then, so Brendan's School needs all
• 1:42:08
  Speaker 6: a protest.
• 1:42:09
Speaker 2: There was one one person in the audience who did clap.
• 1:42:13
Speaker 6: Oh you knew that well, he said it, he said
• 1:42:15
Speaker 6: it on the air.
• 1:42:16
Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, all right. I also love the way he
• 1:42:19
Speaker 2: focuses on each person asking a question and stares right
• 1:42:23
Speaker 2: at them. You know, he's processing what a question is
• 1:42:25
Speaker 2: asking and wants to answer it as best as he
• 1:42:27
Speaker 2: can and as honestly he can. One thing you guys
• 1:42:30
Speaker 2: should look at at the end of the half when
• 1:42:33
Speaker 2: Drake spiked it to stop the clock before the field goal,
• 1:42:36
Speaker 2: I saw Hunter Henry skipping off the field in a
• 1:42:39
Speaker 2: sign of elation. As an offensive captain, Hunter is showing
• 1:42:43
Speaker 2: that this team is behind their quarterback and they are
• 1:42:46
  Speaker 2: having fun.
• 1:42:47
Speaker 6: See, I would agree with that. It took them ten weeks,
• 1:42:50
Speaker 6: and I would if I was Hunter Henry, I'd have
• 1:42:53
Speaker 6: been skipping off the.
• 1:42:53
Speaker 2: Field too, like we you know, we we did it.
• 1:42:56
Speaker 2: We pulled one of these off.
• 1:42:57
  Speaker 3: We did it.
• 1:42:58
Speaker 6: This is how it's supposed to work.
• 1:42:59
Speaker 5: We did it to be fair. They also did it
• 1:43:01
Speaker 5: against Houston sudden. Well, that was.
• 1:43:05
  Speaker 2: Fair.
• 1:43:06
Speaker 6: They scored against Houston with a terrific play and all
• 1:43:09
Speaker 6: that I'm talking about the situation, Yes, all of the
• 1:43:12
Speaker 6: things that go into the two minute drill. And because
• 1:43:15
Speaker 6: I gotta be honest with you, when they threw that
• 1:43:17
Speaker 6: pass down the middle, I was like, what are they doing?
• 1:43:20
Speaker 6: They're not going to have time. Yeah, Now it turns
• 1:43:22
Speaker 6: out they they had a second to spare, give that situation.
• 1:43:27
Speaker 5: Run the ball on third and one. They ran the
• 1:43:30
Speaker 5: ball on third and one, and it cost him a
• 1:43:32
Speaker 5: timeout because they ran the ball with Hasty on third
• 1:43:36
Speaker 5: and one with sixteen seconds left, ish and they had
• 1:43:38
Speaker 5: to burn their last time out.
• 1:43:40
Speaker 6: To Evans's point, you throw it on third and one
• 1:43:42
Speaker 6: if it's incomplete. Now you can run it on fourth
• 1:43:44
Speaker 6: and one if you want, yeah, and then use the timeout.
• 1:43:48
Speaker 2: But even if you throw it, though, it's got to
• 1:43:49
Speaker 2: be the sideline right well.
• 1:43:52
Speaker 6: No, Like, if you throw it, you're gonna get yards,
• 1:43:55
Speaker 6: right and you don't necessarily have to run like I
• 1:43:57
Speaker 6: think Evan's dead on.
• 1:43:58
Speaker 5: It was the one thing about.
• 1:43:59
Speaker 6: You're gonna get three yards on the run.
• 1:44:01
Speaker 5: Yeah, there's four yards on the run. They picked up
• 1:44:04
Speaker 5: the first down and then the booty play happens right
• 1:44:06
Speaker 5: after that. If they save that time out, the booty
• 1:44:09
Speaker 5: play happens. Now they have a shot at the end
• 1:44:11
Speaker 5: zone and then they can kick the field goal right
• 1:44:13
Speaker 5: like that. So it's just like maximizing the time there.
• 1:44:16
Speaker 5: But it wasn't n picky thing. Hunter Henry a great
• 1:44:19
Speaker 5: run blocking game in this game. He was excellent.
• 1:44:21
Speaker 6: That's what Bob big Nell keeps talking about him. Awesome
• 1:44:24
Speaker 6: getting for his blocking.
• 1:44:26
Speaker 2: Yeah. He also says on another note, in my last email,
• 1:44:29
Speaker 2: I reprimanded Paul for talking over people and not listening
• 1:44:32
Speaker 2: to them. I was rather amazed at how he took
• 1:44:34
Speaker 2: the criticism graciously and actually agreed with me. I've also
• 1:44:38
Speaker 2: noticed that Paul has tried to do better in this respect.
• 1:44:41
Speaker 6: But for you, Paul, I'll push back on the last part.
• 1:44:45
Speaker 2: But and I actually loved it when Evan said to Paul,
• 1:44:51
Speaker 2: let me finish when he was making a point. I
• 1:44:54
Speaker 2: took that as growth on Evan's part. And do love
• 1:44:57
Speaker 2: it when he asserts himself with Barthy on catch twenty two,
• 1:45:00
Speaker 2: let's stab some wins that thanks for providing so much
• 1:45:02
Speaker 2: football content in an objective manner.
• 1:45:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, sometimes you have to tell Barth to go sit
• 1:45:07
Speaker 5: in the corner. You know, you're trying to make a point,
• 1:45:11
Speaker 5: and he's just you know.
• 1:45:12
Speaker 4: Did you hear from Banks Navy game?
• 1:45:15
  Speaker 5: I was announce I did, but he's he's I've got
• 1:45:18
Speaker 5: multiple texts about it.
• 1:45:20
Speaker 4: Halloween. Why didn't you mention Thatlloween announced nice twenty twenty
• 1:45:25
Speaker 4: six Notre Dame Navy here Chilette Stadium.
• 1:45:28
Speaker 5: Yep, he actually said the exact thing that one Bradley
• 1:45:32
Speaker 5: Amos said in the meeting about why Navy and Notre
• 1:45:35
Speaker 5: Dame play each other every single year? And oh yeah,
• 1:45:39
Speaker 5: And I was like, I've you know. I already know
• 1:45:41
Speaker 5: all about this because the Bradley Thank you, though.
• 1:45:44
  Speaker 2: For telling me.
• 1:45:44
  Speaker 6: I knew they played every year. I just I wasn't
• 1:45:47
Speaker 6: aware that that game moved around. I thought they played
• 1:45:49
Speaker 6: at Notre Dame and at the Naval Academy, or you know,
• 1:45:53
Speaker 6: somewhere big Ireland. You know, maybe like the Raven what's
• 1:45:56
Speaker 6: the Raven Stadium nowadays? M and T Banks Stadium or
• 1:45:59
Speaker 6: something like that, Like maybe they play there.
• 1:46:02
Speaker 2: Let's see. Anthony and Richmond Virginia loved the podcast, been
• 1:46:05
Speaker 2: listening for years and it has only improved, like fine
• 1:46:08
Speaker 2: wine over the years. I feel like I'm the only
• 1:46:11
Speaker 2: one that is not interested in Travis Hunter. I can't
• 1:46:15
Speaker 2: help but think of Taevon Austen, a free college athlete,
• 1:46:18
Speaker 2: I could do anything for the college team, but when
• 1:46:20
Speaker 2: he gets to the professional level, he could often be
• 1:46:23
Speaker 2: hurt and unavailable, ultimately leading to a career that doesn't
• 1:46:26
Speaker 2: sound like a top ten talent to me. I'd much
• 1:46:29
Speaker 2: rather get a Will Campbell or Ted McMillan at that
• 1:46:32
Speaker 2: point in the draft. With a lean toward Campbell, He's
• 1:46:35
Speaker 2: rarely beat in the SEC and would be the best
• 1:46:37
Speaker 2: O line O Ligneman for the Patriots, regardless if he
• 1:46:41
Speaker 2: plays tackle or guard.
• 1:46:43
Speaker 5: Okay, first of all, put some respect on Tavon Austin's name,
• 1:46:46
Speaker 5: all right, very good player ahead of his time. Like
• 1:46:49
Speaker 5: if Tavon Austin was playing Now and Chiefs with all
• 1:46:53
Speaker 5: with all the cheap motions and all the different like
• 1:46:55
Speaker 5: things that they do, but before the snap now you know,
• 1:46:58
Speaker 5: like Tyreek Hill style, he still wouldn't be worth the well,
• 1:47:01
Speaker 5: he would be fantastic or whatever it was. Second of all,
• 1:47:06
Speaker 5: you know, look, I get the appeal of Travis Hunter.
• 1:47:08
Speaker 5: I do, and just from a markability standpoint, I mean
• 1:47:11
Speaker 5: he's he's off the charts in terms of that. But
• 1:47:15
Speaker 5: you know, the smart thing to do, in my opinion,
• 1:47:18
Speaker 5: is to get your socks for Christmas. You know, he
• 1:47:21
Speaker 5: hit it right down the middle of the fairway, and
• 1:47:22
Speaker 5: draft one of these tackles and start to build up
• 1:47:25
Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage. I know it's not going to
• 1:47:26
Speaker 5: be exciting, it's not going to be uh, you know,
• 1:47:29
Speaker 5: the shiny new toy. But I think the Patriots need
• 1:47:32
Speaker 5: to have him meat and potatoes draft this year. And
• 1:47:34
Speaker 5: it starts with the left hand.
• 1:47:35
Speaker 6: Me too, I'm on board with that, and I would
• 1:47:38
Speaker 6: just real quick. I think our buddy No Socks has
• 1:47:42
Speaker 6: sort of started this, Like Travis Hunter is six one five,
• 1:47:48
Speaker 6: He's not Taevon Austin, who was like five eight right
• 1:47:51
Speaker 6: like he I don't know what Travis Hunter is going
• 1:47:54
  Speaker 6: to be. I'm not a professional scout and I don't
• 1:47:56
Speaker 6: pretend to be one, but shots fire. Matt Smith keeps
• 1:48:00
Speaker 6: saying he's too small to take with the number one
• 1:48:02
Speaker 6: overall pick. He'd take him at like five, but he
• 1:48:04
Speaker 6: wouldn't take him at I'm just Mike, have I mischaracterized anything?
• 1:48:10
Speaker 6: His size would lead Matt to not want to take
• 1:48:13
Speaker 6: him with the number one overall five down four pick
• 1:48:15
Speaker 6: because he's too small. Right when you're in college and
• 1:48:19
  Speaker 6: you're six to one eighty five, I don't think that's
• 1:48:21
Speaker 6: too small. I think you theoretically get a little bit bigger.
• 1:48:25
Speaker 6: You'll probably be closer to two hundred pounds by the
• 1:48:28
Speaker 6: time you're an NFL player. And I mean, I don't know.
• 1:48:31
Speaker 6: Maybe in maybe they they're doctoring the numbers. Maybe he's
• 1:48:35
Speaker 6: not six to one, maybe he's maybe he's smaller than that.
• 1:48:38
  Speaker 6: That's what he's listed as, So I don't know what
• 1:48:40
Speaker 6: he's actual sizes. We'll see at the combine. But DeVante
• 1:48:45
Speaker 6: Smith was like one hundred and sixty pounds coming out
• 1:48:47
Speaker 6: of Alabama as the as the Heisman Trophy winner, and
• 1:48:49
Speaker 6: everybody said the same thing about him. I would certainly
• 1:48:53
Speaker 6: take him on my team any day, any day.
• 1:48:56
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 1:48:56
Speaker 6: I don't know if he was the number one overall.
• 1:48:57
  Speaker 2: Pickworthy or whatever.
• 1:48:59
Speaker 6: He what do you go like, like twelve? I mean
• 1:49:02
Speaker 6: somewhere does it matter?
• 1:49:04
  Speaker 3: Right?
• 1:49:04
  Speaker 15: Like?
• 1:49:04
Speaker 6: And he's tiny, tiny, gotta be good, a good enough player.
• 1:49:09
Speaker 5: He's the best player in the draft. But in my opinion,
• 1:49:12
Speaker 5: he's a corner, right and so that but the question
• 1:49:15
Speaker 5: that I have isn't necessarily doubt of which position he
• 1:49:20
Speaker 5: is because he's a corner. But is he going to
• 1:49:22
Speaker 5: want to be a corner?
• 1:49:23
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 1:49:25
  Speaker 2: Great?
• 1:49:25
Speaker 6: Point is a big part of it.
• 1:49:27
Speaker 5: And I would also say, like, if he wants to
• 1:49:29
Speaker 5: play both ways in the pros, then I think he's
• 1:49:33
Speaker 5: fooling himself that he's going to be able to do
• 1:49:35
Speaker 5: what he's doing right now at Colorado in the NFL level.
• 1:49:39
Speaker 5: So how do you work? That whole thing is tough?
• 1:49:43
Speaker 2: Why? Why is it so much more crazy for someone
• 1:49:47
Speaker 2: to play both ways now than it used to be
• 1:49:51
Speaker 2: the game's the same length. Very tough game.
• 1:49:53
Speaker 6: Well when wasn't When wasn't it kind of crazy to
• 1:49:55
Speaker 6: think could play both ways?
• 1:49:57
Speaker 2: Yeah back in the day, guys played both ways in
• 1:49:59
Speaker 2: the sixties. Yeah, he's still sixty minute game.
• 1:50:02
Speaker 5: I just I think it's really unrealistic. Now, maybe could
• 1:50:07
Speaker 5: he play sort of like how they've used Marcus Jones
• 1:50:12
Speaker 5: in the past, where he's got a package of plays
• 1:50:14
Speaker 5: on offense and four or five times a game, you
• 1:50:17
Speaker 5: just scheme something to get him the football because he's
• 1:50:19
Speaker 5: so dynamic. Like sure, like I guess in theory he
• 1:50:22
Speaker 5: could do something like that, but he's not a full
• 1:50:25
Speaker 5: time I'm two way player. Like, I just don't think
• 1:50:27
Speaker 5: you can do that. I think that's where I'm at.
• 1:50:29
Speaker 4: And like I'm a little torn on this one because
• 1:50:31
Speaker 4: as you start to look at some of the receivers,
• 1:50:32
Speaker 4: like I just feel like they need an explosive player.
• 1:50:35
Speaker 4: And again, don't want to get into the one, two, three,
• 1:50:38
Speaker 4: X y Z of it all, but like you know,
• 1:50:40
Speaker 4: McMillan more of the big size kind of guy, and
• 1:50:43
  Speaker 4: I know that there's a school of thought of that's
• 1:50:45
Speaker 4: you know what you want, But I just think this
• 1:50:47
Speaker 4: offense needs somebody with electric juice, and Hunter has that,
• 1:50:52
Speaker 4: but it's hard to make it line up. And if
• 1:50:54
Speaker 4: you were telling me that he's a receiver one hundred percent,
• 1:50:56
Speaker 4: then I think I might be a little bit more
• 1:50:58
Speaker 4: on board with it. But like you said, everybody like,
• 1:51:01
Speaker 4: I mean, this is stupid. This is way too specific.
• 1:51:03
Speaker 4: But like you get to the super Bowl, it's the
• 1:51:05
Speaker 4: longest game, Like is he like this is stupid, I know,
• 1:51:08
Speaker 4: but like, is he gonna make the same impact in
• 1:51:10
Speaker 4: the lungs game like the super Bowl when it's defenses
• 1:51:12
Speaker 4: are gassed and and he's gonna be able? You know,
• 1:51:15
Speaker 4: I know that that's like getting way, way, way too
• 1:51:17
Speaker 4: far ahead of yourself, But I just think the bottom
• 1:51:20
Speaker 4: line for me looking into this is like, give me
• 1:51:23
Speaker 4: speed and explosiveness, well not tied that time speed, give
• 1:51:26
  Speaker 4: me that.
• 1:51:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I know, and like I said, if he
• 1:51:28
Speaker 5: was just a receiver, like yes, yeah, but I just
• 1:51:31
Speaker 5: think he's gonna want to play a receiver because they're
• 1:51:33
Speaker 5: getting paid thirty million dollars a year. So like, you know,
• 1:51:36
Speaker 5: he's gonna look at it and he's gonna say, well, yeah,
• 1:51:39
Speaker 5: i'd probably be an all pro corner. But you know,
• 1:51:42
Speaker 5: I'm gonna probably tap out at twenty at the most,
• 1:51:45
Speaker 5: or I could be a really good receiver and make thirty,
• 1:51:48
Speaker 5: Like which one would you rather do? But I just
• 1:51:50
Speaker 5: think he's his body type, the way he moves, like
• 1:51:54
Speaker 5: everything screams corner more than he does receive.
• 1:51:56
Speaker 6: And I certainly wouldn't take a guy with the intentions
• 1:51:58
Speaker 6: on playing them both ways.
• 1:52:00
  Speaker 15: Now.
• 1:52:00
Speaker 6: I made someone in the mailbag this week. I thought
• 1:52:05
Speaker 6: kind of put a really interesting twist on it. It's
• 1:52:07
Speaker 6: like he's he's kind of like a draft pick that
• 1:52:11
Speaker 6: you're increasing your odds because whatever you want to play
• 1:52:15
Speaker 6: him at, you can play him there, and if you
• 1:52:16
Speaker 6: don't think he's great, you can always try the other
• 1:52:19
Speaker 6: position with almost like equal chances of it hitting. And
• 1:52:23
Speaker 6: then if he ends up being really good at bowls.
• 1:52:26
Speaker 2: That's a great problem. You get two shots, right, It's
• 1:52:28
Speaker 2: almost like you get two shots. Yeah, that was his point,
• 1:52:31
  Speaker 2: and I.
• 1:52:31
Speaker 6: Thought, I haven't really heard it phrase that way. I
• 1:52:34
Speaker 6: thought it was a good way to look.
• 1:52:35
Speaker 5: If they draft Travis Hunter, I will not knock him
• 1:52:37
  Speaker 5: for it.
• 1:52:38
  Speaker 3: I won't.
• 1:52:38
Speaker 5: He's the best player in the draft.
• 1:52:40
  Speaker 4: I just I just don't think it's gonna line up
• 1:52:42
Speaker 4: so it's not like, yeah, they were in the first
• 1:52:43
Speaker 4: overall pick, this would be the discussion we would have
• 1:52:45
Speaker 4: for four straight months. But if they do end up,
• 1:52:47
Speaker 4: so if this was last week, we have this talk, yeah,
• 1:52:50
Speaker 4: I think this week it's seven.
• 1:52:51
  Speaker 2: Think.
• 1:52:53
Speaker 5: I don't think you can take him number one overall,
• 1:52:54
Speaker 5: not because of him, but I just I wouldn't take
• 1:52:57
Speaker 5: anything that's not a quarterback number one overall.
• 1:52:59
Speaker 6: And I don't think the Patriots can afford the luxury
• 1:53:02
Speaker 6: of Travis Hunter with their first pick. I agree with Evan, Yeah,
• 1:53:05
Speaker 6: I think unless there's just like Will Campbell was like
• 1:53:09
Speaker 6: the most overrated fraud out there. I don't see how
• 1:53:12
Speaker 6: you can't try to get in position. If you don't
• 1:53:14
Speaker 6: think he's worth like the fifth pick, then move down
• 1:53:16
Speaker 6: to twelve and take him or wherever you have to go.
• 1:53:19
Speaker 6: I think you need to address the offensive line. I
• 1:53:21
Speaker 6: don't think they can afford the luxury of.
• 1:53:22
Speaker 5: A teoy I don't think they can stretch agency offensive line.
• 1:53:26
Speaker 6: Now the offensive line, No, really, you've changed your stance,
• 1:53:29
Speaker 6: Paul to get a front line left tackle like once,
• 1:53:34
Speaker 6: like Orlando Brown. That's like the only example.
• 1:53:37
Speaker 2: So so you're you're dead set that they have to
• 1:53:39
Speaker 2: get an elite left tackle.
• 1:53:41
Speaker 6: I think you do. Yes, you not believe that left tackle?
• 1:53:46
Speaker 6: You tell me that. You tell me the time that
• 1:53:47
Speaker 6: I said you don't need a good left tackle, now
• 1:53:49
Speaker 6: you just changed that to good elite. Tell me when
• 1:53:52
Speaker 6: I said that you don't need always no, the rest
• 1:53:55
Speaker 6: of them you can get in the fifth and sixth
• 1:53:57
Speaker 6: seventh undrafted Joe and drewsy plug him in Bang. Yeah,
• 1:54:01
Speaker 6: you need a good left tackle, good good unless you
• 1:54:05
Speaker 6: have again, unless you have Tom Brady. But you need
• 1:54:08
Speaker 6: a good left tackle.
• 1:54:09
Speaker 2: You're not light a good left tackle. They got him
• 1:54:11
Speaker 2: in the second round.
• 1:54:11
Speaker 6: He was good, okay, not great, right, and they don't
• 1:54:14
Speaker 6: have Tom Brady. I know, but like that's why Matt
• 1:54:16
Speaker 6: was a good left tackle without Tom Brady.
• 1:54:18
Speaker 2: But you are you saying Matt like's not good enough
• 1:54:21
Speaker 2: on this team? No, okay, I just want to make
• 1:54:23
  Speaker 2: sure on.
• 1:54:24
Speaker 6: This team right now, he'd be light years better than Daria.
• 1:54:27
Speaker 2: Would he be good enough for this team? Yes? Better
• 1:54:30
Speaker 2: than I don't need an elite left tackle to be
• 1:54:33
Speaker 2: what to be a good left tackle and to contribute
• 1:54:36
Speaker 2: to your team winning.
• 1:54:37
Speaker 6: He thinks he's boxing.
• 1:54:38
Speaker 2: What are you gonna do?
• 1:54:38
Speaker 6: And you're not gonna win. Why because you're not good enough?
• 1:54:41
Speaker 6: But he'd be your left tackle.
• 1:54:42
Speaker 2: He's way better than you, don't think With Matt Light
• 1:54:45
Speaker 2: on this team, they could win win what football games?
• 1:54:49
Speaker 6: Not enough to make the playoffs?
• 1:54:50
Speaker 2: Really? Wow? No, he's a Hall of Famer, Paul, No,
• 1:54:53
Speaker 2: he's not. He's a Patriots Hall of Fame.
• 1:54:55
Speaker 6: That's a big difference, much like the BU Baseball Hall
• 1:54:57
Speaker 6: of Fame is a lot different than athleticrillo be you baseball?
• 1:55:02
Speaker 6: Uh nothing, hall of Fame the same as Patriots Hall
• 1:55:04
Speaker 6: of Fame. Zero sum.
• 1:55:06
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 1:55:06
Speaker 5: I mean if he was on the seventies Steelers, he'd
• 1:55:08
Speaker 5: be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame too.
• 1:55:09
Speaker 2: No, No, I just want to I just want to
• 1:55:11
Speaker 2: hear your stance. The Patriots need.
• 1:55:13
Speaker 6: Better get on the semantics all you want.
• 1:55:15
Speaker 2: No, it's not semantics.
• 1:55:16
Speaker 6: They need a good left tackle.
• 1:55:18
Speaker 2: Can we all agree whether we're gonna call him a
• 1:55:19
Speaker 2: league whatever you want to call him. But I think
• 1:55:22
Speaker 2: that's the number you have to get that tackle high
• 1:55:24
Speaker 2: up in the draft. I think if you want a
• 1:55:27
Speaker 2: good left tackle, you need to take him early in
• 1:55:29
Speaker 2: the draft. Okay, I just want to be clear about it.
• 1:55:31
Speaker 6: If that is that not true. If I know I'm wrong,
• 1:55:33
Speaker 6: I don't have to be right.
• 1:55:34
Speaker 2: Matt Light I thought was a good left tackle and
• 1:55:36
Speaker 2: he was second round.
• 1:55:39
Speaker 5: I'm still a high second round pick though.
• 1:55:40
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, I don't think high in the draft. Okay,
• 1:55:44
  Speaker 2: you're right. I don't know.
• 1:55:46
Speaker 6: I don't think Matt Light was all that good, but
• 1:55:49
Speaker 6: he was good enough left tackle to win three Super Bowls.
• 1:55:52
Speaker 6: I mean, you also had the greatest player who's ever
• 1:55:54
  Speaker 6: played playing quarterback.
• 1:55:55
Speaker 2: Had little to do with it.
• 1:55:56
Speaker 6: But you know, I have to be fair, You're right.
• 1:55:59
Speaker 6: I just they got him in the second round and
• 1:56:01
Speaker 6: that was good enough.
• 1:56:02
Speaker 2: But I don't have to be all the lights caliber
• 1:56:07
Speaker 2: would be good enough for the Patriots.
• 1:56:09
Speaker 6: And this particular team to win games. No, No, I
• 1:56:13
Speaker 6: think you need to be better than that. Okay, now
• 1:56:17
  Speaker 6: I'm not saying I wouldn't take Matt Light. He's way
• 1:56:19
Speaker 6: better than Vederian Low. He would improve your offensive line.
• 1:56:23
Speaker 6: Maybe you could then move Veradarian Low.
• 1:56:24
Speaker 5: To right tackle, but not and then you, you know,
• 1:56:26
Speaker 5: play right tackle. I just don't go so true, you can't,
• 1:56:32
  Speaker 5: you know what?
• 1:56:32
Speaker 6: Ask me again next year when I can re evaluate
• 1:56:36
Speaker 6: Drake May. Maybe he's one of those guys that you
• 1:56:38
Speaker 6: don't need to invest in the left tackles because he's
• 1:56:41
Speaker 6: gonna make it look better exactly.
• 1:56:42
Speaker 4: All right, there we go.
• 1:56:43
  Speaker 6: How's that?
• 1:56:44
Speaker 2: Okay? Is that fair? Fair enough? Well, we'll put a
• 1:56:48
Speaker 2: pin on that one and we'll If.
• 1:56:50
Speaker 6: You're asking me right now, what I think the number
• 1:56:52
Speaker 6: one need on the team is, I would say left tackle. Okay,
• 1:56:55
Speaker 6: but it's like this much ahead of wide receiver, and
• 1:57:00
Speaker 6: they need two wide receivers. Yeah, minimum, probably three, but
• 1:57:04
Speaker 6: they need two elite wide receivers.
• 1:57:06
Speaker 5: Higgins followed Pop Douglas on Instagram.
• 1:57:08
Speaker 4: So, well that's it. Then we got our we got
• 1:57:11
  Speaker 4: one box.
• 1:57:11
Speaker 6: Finally, all right, Matt would say, so you got the
• 1:57:15
Speaker 6: number two wide receiver.
• 1:57:16
  Speaker 3: Checks.
• 1:57:16
Speaker 6: Now you need to find someone who can.
• 1:57:18
Speaker 2: Play Jeff in Canada, our last great quarterback played for
• 1:57:23
Speaker 2: twenty two seasons. He did all that TB twelve stuff.
• 1:57:26
Speaker 2: He rarely left the pocket or ran the football. He
• 1:57:29
Speaker 2: also has a competitive gene that is very rare amongst athletes.
• 1:57:33
Speaker 2: I say this to make a point. I think we
• 1:57:35
Speaker 2: need to accept that Drake may might have a much
• 1:57:38
Speaker 2: shorter career style of play. QB salaries, gen Z attitudes
• 1:57:42
Speaker 2: are likely to make his career different. I think if
• 1:57:45
Speaker 2: we get eight to ten years exciting and competitive out
• 1:57:48
Speaker 2: of May, we should be happy. That's the norm for
• 1:57:51
Speaker 2: a good, very good franchise quarterback. We all know Brady
• 1:57:54
Speaker 2: is a unicorn. What is the line between saying slide
• 1:57:58
Speaker 2: Drake or check it down Drake and just letting him
• 1:58:01
  Speaker 2: do his thing?
• 1:58:02
Speaker 5: So experience eight to ten years?
• 1:58:05
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:58:05
Speaker 5: Does it appear that Josh Allen is in any way,
• 1:58:07
Speaker 5: shape or form slowing down? No, he's in year seven.
• 1:58:10
Speaker 6: How about Lamar Jackson?
• 1:58:12
Speaker 5: So we're to the emailer's point. Josh Allen is already
• 1:58:17
Speaker 5: on the back nine of his NFL career and he
• 1:58:20
Speaker 5: might win MVP of the league.
• 1:58:22
Speaker 6: So if he doesn't, Lamar Jackson's going and he's been
• 1:58:24
Speaker 6: around since what eighteen?
• 1:58:26
Speaker 5: Yeah, So I don't necessarily agree with the fact that
• 1:58:31
Speaker 5: he's gonna I don't think he's gonna play twenty five years. No,
• 1:58:34
Speaker 5: But I also don't think that he's only gonna play
• 1:58:36
Speaker 5: eight if he's good.
• 1:58:37
Speaker 6: Can can you reasonably is it reasonable to expect fifteen years.
• 1:58:41
  Speaker 5: If he's a franchise guy?
• 1:58:42
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 1:58:43
Speaker 6: I mean if he pans out, is that asking too much?
• 1:58:46
Speaker 4: I mean, I connected to some he said last week,
• 1:58:48
Speaker 4: Paul that you pointed out that you liked. I think
• 1:58:50
Speaker 4: we all liked was like everything I gotta I gotta
• 1:58:52
Speaker 4: win from the pocket, you know. And that's going back
• 1:58:55
Speaker 4: to the thing we did with Josh where you learn
• 1:58:56
Speaker 4: how much a quarterback with experience can do pre snap
• 1:59:01
Speaker 4: without putting themselves in danger. And like if Drake may,
• 1:59:04
Speaker 4: I think he showed some early signs of having a
• 1:59:06
Speaker 4: very good processor and understanding the game on the level
• 1:59:08
Speaker 4: that you need to play quarterback in the league. Like,
• 1:59:11
Speaker 4: if you can get to that level, like I think
• 1:59:13
Speaker 4: he'll limit the hits he can take and you know,
• 1:59:15
Speaker 4: just pick his spots with the athleticism, the you know
• 1:59:17
Speaker 4: we talk about all the time, the third longs where
• 1:59:19
Speaker 4: everybody's covered and pick it up, slide to the little
• 1:59:23
  Speaker 4: finger roll.
• 1:59:23
Speaker 5: And he really wanted to do the thing I do.
• 1:59:25
Speaker 4: It's so frustrating so much when I'm watching another team
• 1:59:29
Speaker 4: do that, like you know, Mahomes and it's like third
• 1:59:31
Speaker 4: and fifteen and you got them boxed up, and then
• 1:59:34
Speaker 4: he just kind of.
• 1:59:35
Speaker 5: Scrambles through and you know, slides and does nothing.
• 1:59:37
Speaker 4: Do you want to hate that?
• 1:59:38
Speaker 6: Things that bother him?
• 1:59:39
  Speaker 2: Awesome?
• 1:59:40
  Speaker 4: I say, quarterback.
• 1:59:41
Speaker 6: Your offensive line thing get bothered by twelve and four
• 1:59:44
Speaker 6: sees is true? Your offensive everything is valid. Like, you
• 1:59:47
Speaker 6: can make an argument, you're right, Like I'm not being
• 1:59:50
Speaker 6: like condescending. You're right, you can make an argument. You
• 1:59:53
Speaker 6: don't have to take the tackle right away. Yeah, you
• 1:59:55
Speaker 6: just need to get a better tackle than what you have,
• 1:59:57
Speaker 6: Like you don't have to have an elite left tackle.
• 1:59:59
Speaker 6: You're right, you're right. I just want to be fair
• 2:00:02
Speaker 6: with like, okay, because my offensive line thing is I
• 2:00:05
Speaker 6: just feel like you don't need to have the Lions.
• 2:00:08
Speaker 6: You just can't have what the Patriots have. You can't
• 2:00:10
Speaker 6: have what Chicago try to trot out there with five
• 2:00:13
Speaker 6: backups the other day, they literally had all backups on
• 2:00:15
Speaker 6: the field and I'm not sure if you noticed, but
• 2:00:18
Speaker 6: they got sacked nine times. Like, you can't have that.
• 2:00:22
Speaker 6: You can't run an offense with that.
• 2:00:24
Speaker 2: Knowing, all right, and we'll be running into tomorrow at noon.
