- 0:00Speaker 1: And so basically it's meatloaf.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's just turkey meatloaf.
- 0:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:04Speaker 4: With mashed potato, icing, and marshmallows.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Even better. And sweet potato casserole and.
- 0:14Speaker 5: Stovetop. It just gets better and better.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And there's a layer of cranberries in there. Of course
- 0:23Speaker 1: there is.
- 0:24Speaker 5: So, white meat.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And dark meat. Take it away.
- 0:30Speaker 6: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion

- 0:50Speaker 7: Enjoy the show.
- 0:53Speaker 8: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:28Speaker 9: It ain't cool being no jive turkey so close to Thanksgiving.
- 1:42Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:45Speaker 5: I'm Fred.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm Greg.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I'm Marlena. I'm Bo.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I'm Alan. I'm Lucy. And Happy Thanksgiving!
- 1:52Speaker 5: It is, uh... time for another special holiday episode. Special
- 1:56Speaker 5: is once again in quotes.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So with that we bring you the bride of Turkzilla.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Indeed.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Courtesy of Greg and this year she has a friend.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 1: What have you billed her Lucy? The Tofurkzilla. Tofurkzilla.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:14Speaker 5: I don't know what to do with either of those really.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Except eat them.
- 2:18Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Which I did.
- 2:19Speaker 5: So would you like to start with that with the
- 2:21Speaker 5: wrap up?
- 2:22Speaker 1: First of all Alan was kind of afraid.
- 2:25Speaker 7: Afraid.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Of Turkzilla.
- 2:27Speaker 5: I don't know if afraid is the word.
- 2:29Speaker 4: I was concerned.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Rightfully so. If you're not familiar, we did this year
- 2:35Speaker 5: before last. We'll post the pictures online. If you're not
- 2:40Speaker 5: on our Facebook page, that's your own fault. But, yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 5: as I described it to Alan and what instilled the
- 2:47Speaker 5: fear in his heart, Was a layer cake made of
- 2:50Speaker 5: all your Thanksgiving items. So it's a layer cake involving
- 2:53Speaker 5: turkey and stuffing and iced with mashed potatoes. It's the
- 2:58Speaker 5: best idea ever, isn't it?
- 3:00Speaker 1: There should maybe be like creamed corn in between a
- 3:03Speaker 1: couple of the layers.
- 3:04Speaker 5: I could get on board with that.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I thought about that. Venturing into vegetables. I don't know.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Because I like my cakes like I like my women runny.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So just work on that.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Venturing into vegetables goes against our nature anyway.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:18Speaker 11: Lucy and I ventured into vegetables.
- 3:20Speaker 1: We did. That's a fact.
- 3:22Speaker 12: Although I will say that in creating the vegan counterpart
- 3:25Speaker 12: of Turkzilla, I didn't actually realize that the layer cake
- 3:29Speaker 12: concept was literal. Like I did not know it was
- 3:31Speaker 12: going to be cake shaped.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Like I feel like next year. Well, I told you
- 3:35Speaker 5: if you're going to do it, either it had to
- 3:36Speaker 5: be cake shaped or I told Fred, I wanted everything
- 3:39Speaker 5: shaped like a Turkey, which is hilarious that they always
- 3:42Speaker 5: shape the fake turkeys into a Turkey shape.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And like we, Well, Lucy, it kind of counts. It's
- 3:48Speaker 1: like a sheet cake.
- 3:49Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 5: All right.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:51Speaker 4: So that was my concern.
- 3:52Speaker 11: It's like a sheet cake burning in my heart.
- 3:55Speaker 1: What?
- 3:58Speaker 4: My concern was the description of it as a layer cake,
- 4:00Speaker 4: because if you had said something like a casserole, that
- 4:02Speaker 4: would have been fine. Like yours is a casserole.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It's not a casserole.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Oh, I know.
- 4:05Speaker 4: But then when it was described to me, then it
- 4:07Speaker 4: sounded more like a casserole. And then Greg posted a
- 4:09Speaker 4: picture of this thing.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And you went, oh, God.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 4:11Speaker 5: It looks like a casserole.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Cake, but it's not. I don't know.
- 4:15Speaker 11: I think it looks like a mutant biscuit.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:20Speaker 14: You were just afraid it was going to be like
- 4:21Speaker 14: one of those KFC bowls, but on steroids.
- 4:24Speaker 11: It kind of is.
- 4:26Speaker 1: There's no corn in this. Again, that can be a remedy.
- 4:30Speaker 14: Well, I mean, I just like a tracer element in
- 4:32Speaker 14: there to know that the bolus hasn't just stayed there.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Oh no, it's a cake. It's a standing cake.
- 4:40Speaker 8: You know, last time it was definitely more defined transitional
- 4:45Speaker 8: layers yeah they were just kind of brown beige mess yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 4: So it tasted good though i did i did try.
- 4:54Speaker 11: It everybody turkzillas fall apart the center cannot hold.
- 5:00Speaker 5: So you had a good time making it great right
- 5:04Speaker 5: do you want to go into.
- 5:05Speaker 8: That i i don't know i've had a um I
- 5:12Speaker 8: had a full-blown panic attack while I was making it today.
- 5:16Speaker 8: Other health issues, I think, caused that.
- 5:19Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I had some trouble. I hope it was worth the effort.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It turned out very nicely.
- 5:29Speaker 11: About a couple of years after this Turkzilla, everyone who
- 5:33Speaker 11: ate it is going to have a panic attack.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Or a baby turkey.
- 5:39Speaker 5: That'll be pretty cool, actually.
- 5:40Speaker 4: You mentioned earlier you almost died. Was that in relation
- 5:42Speaker 4: to this?
- 5:43Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that's what I mean. I really did
- 5:46Speaker 8: feel like I was dying.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I had that.
- 5:50Speaker 5: Thanks to the bride of Turkzilla.
- 5:53Speaker 1: The curse of the bride of Turkzilla. Yeah, it wasn't pleasant,
- 5:57Speaker 1: so I'm glad to be on the other side of that.
- 5:58Speaker 14: It's almost like the brood. It's just you're giving birth
- 6:01Speaker 14: to the... It's taking something from you when you create it.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 8: I hope because i don't want that back well it's
- 6:10Speaker 8: good you're here right i almost didn't even come i
- 6:13Speaker 8: thought okay i'll just deliver it and go home but
- 6:15Speaker 8: then i felt much better after i was.
- 6:19Speaker 14: After you delivered it after i mean maybe it's a
- 6:21Speaker 14: natural reaction to it it's like you know you if
- 6:24Speaker 14: you smell food cooking you get hungry well that's going
- 6:26Speaker 14: to make you you have to be so damn hungry
- 6:28Speaker 14: to eat that thick cake it's just the body just
- 6:32Speaker 14: overdid itself and just like I'll shut down briefly so
- 6:35Speaker 14: that way he's really hungry later on perhaps yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 1: To go to the other side okay Lucy how was
- 6:42Speaker 1: your experience I had.
- 6:43Speaker 12: A perfectly pleasant experience making Topherzilla um I did not
- 6:48Speaker 12: have time to watch the movie though so there's gives
- 6:50Speaker 12: and takes to everything I don't know I watched the
- 6:52Speaker 12: first third um but yeah so we started should I
- 6:55Speaker 12: tell you the constituent ingredient.
- 6:58Speaker 5: Yeah but i just want to know how many layers
- 7:00Speaker 5: of lead there were in it because i picked it
- 7:02Speaker 5: up oh my god why is it so heavy well.
- 7:06Speaker 12: Because it's an entire thanksgiving feast in one casserole dish
- 7:10Speaker 12: so it's gonna be.
- 7:11Speaker 1: None of which is a giant bird though that's true.
- 7:13Speaker 11: But there's a black hole in there it could.
- 7:16Speaker 12: Be there's an entire tofurkey in there there's stuffing there's
- 7:20Speaker 12: a macaroni and cheese casserole there is a Whipped smashed potatoes.
- 7:26Speaker 12: I'm forgetting something. The yeast gravy, which may or may
- 7:28Speaker 12: not be the Jess Wexler cheese.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Yeah, we're debating that.
- 7:33Speaker 8: If it comes to its own without knowing of the
- 7:36Speaker 8: Jess Wexler cheese, it's not.
- 7:38Speaker 1: They just happen to be similar. Plus, it's in name.
- 7:43Speaker 1: They're fine.
- 7:44Speaker 14: I think Fred's on to something there. Maybe every Turkzilla
- 7:47Speaker 14: and permutation of it has a black hole in there.
- 7:50Speaker 5: Maybe you ate the black hole... A while back, it
- 7:53Speaker 5: was trying to just compact.
- 7:56Speaker 14: All of your innards into the point of singularity, but
- 7:58Speaker 14: you managed to digest it first.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Would it pack all your innards into a little bag,
- 8:03Speaker 5: and then later you could take them out before you...
- 8:05Speaker 5: Never mind.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Turkey humor. Come on, Dan.
- 8:08Speaker 11: That might explain something. I mean, it's as rational as anything.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Else, I guess.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:13Speaker 5: It's as rational as giblets. That's true.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Because I've yet to figure out giblets.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Giblets are delicious.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Just tear into that liver every year. It's wonderful.
- 8:24Speaker 11: Isn't a giblet supposed to be like a smaller jib?
- 8:28Speaker 5: I think they serve those at Applebee's.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Fried giblets?
- 8:33Speaker 5: Yeah, it reminds me.
- 8:33Speaker 14: When I was in Beijing, I thought, okay, I'm in Beijing.
- 8:36Speaker 14: I've got to go to a Beijing duck restaurant. Actually,
- 8:40Speaker 14: I'd been saving money just going to street foods. I thought,
- 8:44Speaker 14: I'm going to spend money and go to the finest
- 8:46Speaker 14: one in the city. You were talking about the chicken
- 8:51Speaker 14: being killed for you earlier i mean they did that
- 8:52Speaker 14: with the duck as well it's like they kill it
- 8:55Speaker 14: and they come out and they demonstrate it's like here
- 8:56Speaker 14: you go this is what i killed for you it's
- 8:58Speaker 14: like it's like a cat bringing something to you and
- 9:00Speaker 14: you nod but um they make a soup out of
- 9:03Speaker 14: it and then they bring you the actual like meat
- 9:06Speaker 14: and then for dessert they deep fry all the innards
- 9:09Speaker 14: like apparently that's the chinese dessert that goes along with
- 9:11Speaker 14: it is they deep fry all that stuff so it's
- 9:13Speaker 14: like they bring out the intestines and all that stuff
- 9:16Speaker 14: it's all just been deep fried it's like Can I
- 9:19Speaker 14: get it? I got it to go and I didn't
- 9:21Speaker 14: eat it.
- 9:23Speaker 11: Speaking of that, there was also the haggis. If you
- 9:28Speaker 11: want to call it. Yeah, so I took, I made the,
- 9:35Speaker 11: in Indianapolis there's this place where I got vegetarian haggis,
- 9:39Speaker 11: whatever that is. But it was good. It was seriously good.
- 9:43Speaker 11: It was kind of aromatic like Indian food.
- 9:46Speaker 5: It's just, it looks like It's.
- 9:49Speaker 11: Complete mush, and it's served with another mush, which is turnips,
- 9:54Speaker 11: and then another mush, which is potatoes.
- 9:57Speaker 1: You're not selling me on this so far. I know.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Turnips.
- 10:00Speaker 11: It's crazy good, though. It's really good. And so I
- 10:03Speaker 11: tried to figure out how to make it, and it's
- 10:07Speaker 11: just another vegan thing that you can call haggis. There
- 10:12Speaker 11: is scotch in it.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 10:14Speaker 11: There's scotch in it.
- 10:17Speaker 14: My great regret is we didn't plan out a fake
- 10:19Speaker 14: recipe before we started doing this episode because we could
- 10:21Speaker 14: have just made something up and.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Probably sold it. No, it will be in the Movie
- 10:26Speaker 5: Meltdown cookbook that we've been working on for years now.
- 10:29Speaker 5: I mean, we eat about as much as we talk
- 10:31Speaker 5: about movies. So is that going to have your recipe
- 10:33Speaker 5: for straight bagels in it? I don't know if you
- 10:35Speaker 5: can afford that. That's a very secret recipe because it
- 10:38Speaker 5: doesn't exist. Because all we made was breadsticks.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Anyways.
- 10:42Speaker 11: It gets so defensive.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Because you don't know what a bagel is.
- 10:45Speaker 11: I was at the Kentucky Book Fair the other day
- 10:48Speaker 11: and I heard the greatest idea for a recipe book.
- 10:51Speaker 11: Because there's a lot of Appalachian writers and there's sort
- 10:57Speaker 11: of a vein of mountain literature. And my mother had
- 10:59Speaker 11: the idea for a book of old-fashioned recipes.
- 11:03Speaker 5: But it would be drinks.
- 11:04Speaker 11: They would market it as these old-timey recipes, but it
- 11:09Speaker 11: would all be recipes for old fashions.
- 11:13Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 11: And then I was going to append it to my idea,
- 11:17Speaker 11: which is... Well, the title of my cookbook was going
- 11:21Speaker 11: to be The Best Things in Life are Fried. But
- 11:24Speaker 11: then I came to this one idea, which was deep-fry
- 11:29Speaker 11: bourbon balls.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That sounds delicious, actually.
- 11:32Speaker 5: You have to.
- 11:33Speaker 11: It has to happen.
- 11:35Speaker 5: How is.
- 11:36Speaker 11: How did people not do that?
- 11:37Speaker 5: How does it not happen in Kentucky?
- 11:38Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I questioned that.
- 11:39Speaker 11: Bourbon balls would fall into a vat. At some point.
- 11:45Speaker 5: I questioned that at the last state fair. I was like,
- 11:47Speaker 5: you're deep frying everything that's still in here, but the
- 11:50Speaker 5: one thing you're known for.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Around here, no. Have they deep fried the derby pie yet? Yeah, yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 11: I had that. Okay.
- 11:56Speaker 10: Yep.
- 11:57Speaker 11: Bourbon balls. We should do that tonight.
- 12:00Speaker 5: I have the best.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Idea for a fried fair food ever. Onion rings, like
- 12:06Speaker 2: onions that are wrapped in bacon and then dipped in
- 12:08Speaker 2: the batter and then fried.
- 12:10Speaker 5: And then coated in cheese. Maybe.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Maybe there's some cheese.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And then sprinkled with more bacon.
- 12:14Speaker 14: I'm not big into the deep fried stuff. The only
- 12:16Speaker 14: time I've come across something like that, I don't even
- 12:17Speaker 14: like the deep fried Oreos.
- 12:19Speaker 5: They're terrible.
- 12:20Speaker 14: When I was up at the Georgetown drive-in, they were
- 12:23Speaker 14: doing the deep fried red velvet Twinkies.
- 12:26Speaker 5: And I was like, oh.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I've deep fried a Twinkie.
- 12:28Speaker 11: That took a year off my life.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But it was so decadent. So I hear. You know
- 12:33Speaker 1: who loved those? Michael Madsen.
- 12:36Speaker 5: When they brought him here, they took him to the
- 12:38Speaker 5: drive-in that night. And he, again, it's not really a surprise,
- 12:42Speaker 5: I guess, if you know Michael.
- 12:45Speaker 14: I remember seeing him going on and around because I
- 12:47Speaker 14: was there that night. And I swear to God, I
- 12:50Speaker 14: saw him trying to pick up chicks as they were
- 12:52Speaker 14: coming out of the women's restroom.
- 12:55Speaker 1: That's pretty much all he did.
- 12:56Speaker 11: That's a good strategy.
- 12:58Speaker 1: A couple years ago.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I had no idea.
- 13:00Speaker 14: Yeah, it was for Fright Night Film Fest. It was
- 13:02Speaker 14: the same year Lyndon Blair had her come up there.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Hugely exciting.
- 13:07Speaker 4: The thing with the bacon around the onion rings, I've
- 13:09Speaker 4: done that with cheese.
- 13:11Speaker 1: It's like I'll.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Take the string cheese and just spread it, coat it,
- 13:14Speaker 4: and fry it and have cheese sticks. And one day
- 13:15Speaker 4: I was like, I'm going to wrap some bacon around
- 13:17Speaker 4: the cheese and then bread that and fry that. It
- 13:19Speaker 4: was good. So bacon, mozzarella stick.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:24Speaker 11: We deep-fried a Twinkie one Thanksgiving because they were going
- 13:27Speaker 11: to deep-fry the turkey. And it's like, wait, before we
- 13:30Speaker 11: use the oil, what all can we deep-fry?
- 13:33Speaker 5: You're dipping a stapler in there.
- 13:36Speaker 11: We couldn't find Mars bars anywhere in this city. They
- 13:40Speaker 11: just weren't around. But we did deep-fry a Twinkie, and
- 13:43Speaker 11: people were like, how was it? It was like, well,
- 13:46Speaker 11: it's better than a regular Twinkie. But, you know, and
- 13:49Speaker 11: people would come in, you want a deep-fried Twinkie?
- 13:51Speaker 5: And they'd be... I'm good. I don't like regular, but
- 13:56Speaker 5: it was a red velvet one.
- 13:57Speaker 14: And it had like, instead of just regular cream, it
- 14:00Speaker 14: was almost like the cream cheese inside. There's a legend
- 14:03Speaker 14: among my parents of a party that I was at
- 14:06Speaker 14: for red velvet cake that somebody made and brought to
- 14:10Speaker 14: the party. And there was this crazy guy who had
- 14:13Speaker 14: a master's in divinity and wanted to write poetry that
- 14:19Speaker 14: And he cut the top layer off the cake. He
- 14:21Speaker 14: was the first person in line, and he cut the
- 14:24Speaker 14: top layer.
- 14:25Speaker 5: And took it on his plate and went and sat down.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And everybody just.
- 14:32Speaker 1: What just happened?
- 14:34Speaker 5: If I would have known, I would have so done
- 14:36Speaker 5: that with the tofurkey.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I would have too. I think the sweet potatoes are
- 14:40Speaker 2: my favorite part.
- 14:41Speaker 5: I like that logic, though.
- 14:44Speaker 14: At school, they'll have snacks for the faculty meetings, and
- 14:47Speaker 14: afterwards it's like, take what you want, and I'll go
- 14:49Speaker 14: up and I'll take the silverware.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And they're like, what are you doing? I said, take
- 14:52Speaker 1: what I want. But that's for everyone.
- 14:56Speaker 11: Oh, it's like the scene in Midnight Cowboy. When they
- 15:04Speaker 11: go to the opening, and he's like, why are you
- 15:06Speaker 11: stealing food? And we're not stealing food, but it's free. Well,
- 15:11Speaker 11: if it's free, we're not stealing it.
- 15:13Speaker 5: I think what our other Thanksgiving activities have been.
- 15:19Speaker 4: There's a turkey that you made sure to have.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we have our centerpiece. It looks like it's talking
- 15:24Speaker 1: into a microphone.
- 15:25Speaker 5: It does.
- 15:26Speaker 1: We all get a microphone.
- 15:27Speaker 11: It's kind of so sensitive to the air motion that
- 15:31Speaker 11: it looks vaguely alive.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Wait, let's hear what it has to say. More so
- 15:34Speaker 1: than I do. Here it goes. Gobble, gobble, motherfucker.
- 15:40Speaker 5: That's the theme of, you know, any good Thanksgiving gathering.
- 15:44Speaker 2: That was my favorite Thanksgiving movie ever. I know.
- 15:48Speaker 11: It sounds like we're trying to avoid the subject of
- 15:51Speaker 11: this movie.
- 15:52Speaker 5: I don't know why.
- 15:53Speaker 14: I have a funny male image of just Bruce Willis
- 15:55Speaker 14: going to promote the new Die Hard movie coming out
- 15:58Speaker 14: next summer.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He just goes on Sight Live or something for Thanksgiving.
- 16:02Speaker 14: They try to work up a sketch just to where
- 16:04Speaker 14: he uses the phrase gobble gobble motherfucker somewhere.
- 16:07Speaker 1: He'd just be ripping off the turkey. I don't want
- 16:09Speaker 1: a t-shirt that says that actually to wear around on Thanksgiving.
- 16:13Speaker 5: I bet there probably is one, actually.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Again, if they're marketing it. Yeah, if they're marketing it. Well,
- 16:18Speaker 1: that's the thing.
- 16:19Speaker 5: We're pushing that off for a future episode. Because it
- 16:22Speaker 5: just came out, and it was impossible to schedule it.
- 16:25Speaker 5: But they just did the sequel to Thanksgiving.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Thanksgiving 3.
- 16:29Speaker 5: Three.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Three.
- 16:31Speaker 5: The sequel. It's the only movie to ever skip a
- 16:35Speaker 5: sequel number.
- 16:37Speaker 1: They skipped two and went right to three. I think
- 16:40Speaker 1: it's part of the story.
- 16:41Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 16:41Speaker 1: We're going to have to come back to that one.
- 16:43Speaker 1: So future Thanksgiving episode right there.
- 16:46Speaker 8: So it was wonderful about that movie. It was, of
- 16:50Speaker 8: course it was intentionally bad, but it was also unintentionally bad.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It was, I don't know. It was a, it was
- 16:57Speaker 1: a perfectly well bound.
- 16:58Speaker 8: And I just saw the image of the father sitting
- 17:02Speaker 8: at the table, um, dressed up as a turkey and
- 17:06Speaker 8: the turkey's sitting across from.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Him and they're having a conversation. That was one of
- 17:09Speaker 5: the best moments.
- 17:12Speaker 14: There aren't that many. There's tons of Halloween and Christmas movies.
- 17:16Speaker 14: There aren't that many Thanksgiving movies.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I know. Actually, I find really endearing is Pieces of April.
- 17:23Speaker 5: That's a fun movie.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I like that.
- 17:25Speaker 5: That's like three off then. We've already listed so many.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Thanksgiving only comes once a year.
- 17:32Speaker 5: We're making our list.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's a good thing we've got a decent amount here
- 17:35Speaker 1: because there's not that many. Thanksgiving's just a big meal.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I mean, we could make that happen.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It's not the same. You're just robbing it of its
- 17:44Speaker 1: fun and integrity.
- 17:45Speaker 2: There's got to be more movies about turkeys than just....
- 17:49Speaker 1: I mean, we could watch Cold Turkey, though it has
- 17:52Speaker 1: nothing to do with turkeys at all. How about that
- 17:54Speaker 1: Pilgrim movie, Solomon Cain? I would watch Solomon Cain just
- 18:00Speaker 1: because it's badass.
- 18:02Speaker 11: Isn't there a Holly Hunter movie?
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Home for the Holiday. That's one of the few
- 18:09Speaker 1: that centers around Thanksgiving.
- 18:11Speaker 5: I think it's that one and Pieces of April are
- 18:13Speaker 5: about the only mainstream Thanksgiving movie.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And Eli Roth keeps talking about doing Thanksgiving.
- 18:18Speaker 5: He's a slacker. Yeah.
- 18:20Speaker 14: I mean, it's like he did Cabin Fever, which was clever,
- 18:23Speaker 14: and Hostel, which was like.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Not so clever.
- 18:26Speaker 14: And then he made Hostel 2, which I didn't even
- 18:29Speaker 14: have a desire to see, and that's like it.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Did Hostel 3.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Did he do Hostel 3?
- 18:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it was just a straight-to-DVD. I haven't
- 18:36Speaker 4: seen it.
- 18:37Speaker 5: Good for him.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I don't know what to do with him.
- 18:42Speaker 5: He seems like a jackass. It was like he had promise,
- 18:46Speaker 5: but then just sort of fizzled. I kind of like
- 18:49Speaker 5: some of the stuff that he likes, but just every
- 18:52Speaker 5: time I see him, his acting is atrocious.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yeah, just him as a person seems to, He.
- 18:59Speaker 14: Worked really well as the douchebag wet t-shirt contest host
- 19:03Speaker 14: on Piranha 3D.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Only because you sat there the whole time going, I
- 19:06Speaker 1: know he's going to get eaten. I know he's going
- 19:08Speaker 1: to get eaten. Damned if they don't deliver.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Spoiler alert. But everybody in that movie gets eaten.
- 19:12Speaker 1: So, man, it's okay.
- 19:17Speaker 10: Oh, man.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So, chomping at the bit, we really want to get
- 19:21Speaker 1: to the movie this week.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Is that what you're saying? Blood Freak. Blood Freak.
- 19:26Speaker 1: All right.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Well, we'll take our break here, and we'll come back
- 19:29Speaker 5: I don't know if we need to reload the plates
- 19:31Speaker 5: again and go have some more food.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I have a cookie. Along the way, I might go
- 19:36Speaker 1: get a cookie, actually.
- 19:38Speaker 5: But along the way, this, again, we have to pass
- 19:42Speaker 5: this along because she's a slacker and she didn't come,
- 19:44Speaker 5: but there's a little bit. Misty posted this on the
- 19:47Speaker 5: wall the other day, and now we all have to suffer.
- 19:51Speaker 5: This would be a song called It's Thanksgiving from Nicole Westbrook.
- 19:58Speaker 5: I'm sorry. Blame Misty for this one. Teenage white girls
- 20:02Speaker 5: rapping is not a good idea at all.
- 20:05Speaker 7: Indigestion.
- 20:06Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:08Speaker 5: We'll be back.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And I should take a step and.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Say thank you, thank you For the.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Things you've done And what you did, oh yeah, ooh.
- 20:22Speaker 15: Yeah December was Christmas January was New Year April was
- 20:29Speaker 15: Easter And the.
- 20:31Speaker 5: 4th of July.
- 20:33Speaker 16: But now it's Thanksgiving.
- 20:42Speaker 5: We, we, we're gonna have a good time.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Oh, oh, oh, it's Thanksgiving.
- 20:49Speaker 5: We, we, we are gonna have a good time.
- 20:53Speaker 11: With the turkey and mashed potatoes.
- 20:57Speaker 5: We, we, we are gonna have a good time.
- 21:00Speaker 17: With the turkey and mashed potatoes.
- 21:04Speaker 5: It's Thanksgiving. It's Thanksgiving. You know school is out. I
- 21:11Speaker 5: can show.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 21:15Speaker 13: Tomorrow's Thanksgiving.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Mmm, turkey and dressing and pie and cake.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And fruit salad and whipped cream and cranberries.
- 21:26Speaker 8: Gee, I can hardly wait.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Me too.
- 21:30Speaker 13: Well, you know, children, we've had a lot of expenses
- 21:33Speaker 13: this month. And, well, your father and I thought that.
- 21:39Speaker 13: Well, the truth of the matter is, there just won't
- 21:41Speaker 13: be any turkey this year. No turkey for Thanksgiving?
- 21:45Speaker 18: Are you tired of film podcasts where the hosts exist
- 21:48Speaker 18: in a constant blissful state of agreement?
- 21:50Speaker 5: I mean, the main characters are two of the dullest
- 21:53Speaker 5: main characters I have ever encountered in any film. Well,
- 21:56Speaker 5: you're in luck.
- 21:58Speaker 18: Let me introduce you to Chinstroker and Punter.
- 22:00Speaker 5: One is an ex-film student.
- 22:01Speaker 18: With a penchant for David Lynch and art cinema.
- 22:04Speaker 5: The other is a man on the street.
- 22:06Speaker 18: Listen, the perplexed and horrified terror has made terror parts
- 22:10Speaker 18: one film a week.
- 22:13Speaker 1: It just really isn't.
- 22:14Speaker 4: It's not visually striking.
- 22:15Speaker 10: No.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Just getting confirmation.
- 22:17Speaker 1: That's the third time, though.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I mean, is this on?
- 22:20Speaker 18: You can find us at csvsp.libson.com.
- 22:24Speaker 7: So come and share the victory.
- 22:26Speaker 5: If you could fuck any man in film, who would
- 22:29Speaker 5: it be and why? My answer is Lance Henriksen.
- 22:33Speaker 1: He wouldn't tell. He looks like some... He looks like
- 22:36Speaker 1: somebody you can keep a secret.
- 22:39Speaker 15: This holiday season.
- 22:41Speaker 19: Prepare to have the stuff you're scared out of you.
- 22:46Speaker 7: Thanksgiving.
- 22:51Speaker 19: In the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, the fourth Thursday in
- 22:57Speaker 19: November is the most celebrated day of the year. The
- 23:03Speaker 19: table is set. The festivities have begun. One uninvited guest
- 23:10Speaker 19: has arrived. And this year, there will be no leftovers.
- 23:14Speaker 19: From Director Eli Roth.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Thanksgiving.
- 23:31Speaker 13: Well, we'll just have to get along without turkey.
- 23:34Speaker 11: Mom, you don't mean it.
- 23:36Speaker 2: It won't be Thanksgiving at all.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Even the pilgrims had a feast.
- 23:40Speaker 13: After all, isn't that what Thanksgiving's for?
- 23:43Speaker 5: It's Thanksgiving.
- 23:45Speaker 1: It's Thanksgiving.
- 23:46Speaker 3: It's Thanksgiving giving and I'm trying to be forgiving.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Nothing is forbidden.
- 23:52Speaker 3: She know we gotta have.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I gotta give thanks to you and you and you.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Can't be hateful. Gotta be grateful. Gotta be grateful.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Can't be hateful. Mashed potatoes on my table.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I've got ribs.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Telling up my neighbor's grits.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Can't deny having good times.
- 24:07Speaker 1: We be laughing till we cry.
- 24:09Speaker 6: It's thanks, thanks, Thanksgiving.
- 24:11Speaker 13: Come on.
- 24:12Speaker 5: It's thanks, thanks, Thanksgiving. Give them thanks, yo.

- 24:47Speaker 1: Well, gee whiz, no, Dad. It's not that at all.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Oh, I know, Dick.
- 24:52Speaker 14: With turkey, it's easy to lose sight of what Thanksgiving
- 24:55Speaker 14: really means.
- 24:56Speaker 13: And don't think we're just making excuses because we don't
- 24:59Speaker 13: have any turkey this year.
- 25:00Speaker 2: We.
- 25:01Speaker 13: Well, we know it'll mean a lot more to us
- 25:04Speaker 13: the next time we do have it.
- 25:05Speaker 12: Well, sure.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Suppose we don't have a bang-up feast. We're still a
- 25:09Speaker 1: lot better off than the Pilgrims.
- 25:18Speaker 11: Hi, I'm Margaret Cho, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 25:30Speaker 13: I am a jerky.
- 25:31Speaker 11: Kill me.
- 25:32Speaker 3: What a thoughtful gift. Why, you are as civilized as we,
- 25:39Speaker 3: except we wear shoes and have last names. Welcome to
- 25:43Speaker 3: our table, our new primitive friend.
- 25:46Speaker 13: Wait.
- 25:47Speaker 1: What?
- 25:48Speaker 3: We cannot break bread with you.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Huh?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Becky, what's going on?
- 25:53Speaker 3: You have taken the land which is rightfully ours. Years
- 25:57Speaker 3: from now, my people will be forced to live in
- 25:59Speaker 3: mobile homes on reservations. Your people will wear cardigans and
- 26:04Speaker 3: drink highballs. We will sell our bracelets by the roadsides.
- 26:08Speaker 3: You will play golf and enjoy hot hors d'oeuvres. My
- 26:12Speaker 3: people will have pain and degradation. Your people will have
- 26:16Speaker 3: stick shifts. The gods of my tribe have spoken. They
- 26:20Speaker 3: have said do not trust the pilgrims, especially Sarah Miller. Gary,
- 26:26Speaker 3: she's changing the words. And for all these reasons, I've
- 26:30Speaker 3: decided to scalp you and burn your village to the ground.
- 26:36Speaker 1: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 26:40Speaker 6: We live in a world subject to constant change. Every
- 26:44Speaker 6: second of every minute of every hour, changes take place.
- 26:52Speaker 6: These changes are perhaps invisible to you. Us, because our
- 26:56Speaker 6: level of awareness is limited. Take, for example, how the
- 27:02Speaker 6: things we do and say to the people we meet.
- 27:05Speaker 6: All these things affect our lives, influence our destiny. And
- 27:13Speaker 6: yet there seems to be some kind of fantastic order
- 27:15Speaker 6: to the whole thing. We never know how or when
- 27:20Speaker 6: we will meet a person who will become a catalyst,
- 27:25Speaker 6: Or who will lead us to one?
- 27:27Speaker 5: What is a catalyst?
- 27:31Speaker 6: Well, in this case, a catalyst is a person that
- 27:33Speaker 6: will bring about changes. They could be good or bad.
- 27:39Speaker 6: But there will be changes. You can meet one almost
- 27:43Speaker 6: anywhere in your everyday life. In a supermarket, drugstore, anywhere.
- 27:52Speaker 5: Even riding down the Florida Turnpike. A pretty girl with
- 27:58Speaker 5: a problem.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Who could resist?
- 28:02Speaker 6: Certainly not Herschel.
- 28:04Speaker 20: I like turkeys. When they're in my face. When they're
- 28:11Speaker 20: on my face. I like turkeys. They make me happy.
- 28:20Speaker 20: Very happy. When they run around gobbling turkeys, they mean
- 28:36Speaker 20: everything to me.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Lucy is desperately trying to finish watching the movie. Actually,
- 28:45Speaker 5: I realize it's probably a good thing you didn't get
- 28:48Speaker 5: to a certain.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Part in this.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Are we back on the air?
- 28:50Speaker 1: I don't think you'd be.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Okay with this.
- 28:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I wondered how much you would enjoy this movie.
- 28:55Speaker 5: Well, a specific part of it I wasn't sure if
- 28:58Speaker 5: you were going to be okay with.
- 28:59Speaker 4: I actually started liking the movie at that part and
- 29:01Speaker 4: then two minutes later.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I was pissed off. That was a very clever cut.
- 29:06Speaker 5: In the movie.
- 29:06Speaker 1: It was the only one. Yeah, probably.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Okay, are you going to tell me what the next
- 29:11Speaker 2: part is?
- 29:11Speaker 1: Alright, so we'll get to it. We're getting ahead of ourselves.
- 29:14Speaker 5: So, we're back obviously with more crazy thanksgiving festivities here
- 29:20Speaker 5: so um this.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Week's sofa theater feature is blood freak.
- 29:26Speaker 10: Uh yeah i don't know what to tell you sorry
- 29:28Speaker 10: alternate title blood freaks the year is 1972 the direct
- 29:36Speaker 10: tour is because it took more than one to get
- 29:39Speaker 10: this done.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Well, yeah.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Brad F.
- 29:43Speaker 5: Grinter and Steve Hawks are stars. Are stars, surprisingly enough.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And co-writers.
- 29:48Speaker 5: The plot, according to IMDb, I don't have to say.
- 29:53Speaker 1: That one's pretty on.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Well, more than that, it already clears things up that
- 29:58Speaker 5: I really wasn't sure about in watching. I sat there
- 30:01Speaker 5: and watched the entire movie, and in this plot, it
- 30:03Speaker 5: already tells me more that I was like, oh, I
- 30:05Speaker 5: wasn't really sure about that part. So this will put
- 30:08Speaker 5: you ahead of the game if you haven't seen it.
- 30:10Speaker 5: First of all, spoiler alert, but, you know, we get
- 30:12Speaker 5: that out of the way. All right, so the plot
- 30:15Speaker 5: according to IMDb. A biker comes upon a girl with
- 30:18Speaker 5: a flat tire and offers her a ride home. He
- 30:21Speaker 5: winds up at a drug party with the girl's sister,
- 30:24Speaker 5: then follows her to a.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Turkey farm owned by her father, a mad scientist. A
- 30:29Speaker 1: mad scientist?
- 30:30Speaker 5: The father turns the biker into a giant turkey monster
- 30:34Speaker 5: who goes after drug dealers.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Okay, that's a little off.
- 30:36Speaker 2: That's not happening at all.
- 30:38Speaker 1: No, not really. Sounds like a better movie.
- 30:39Speaker 9: Kind of.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Kind of does. Yeah, it makes it sound exciting and interesting.
- 30:42Speaker 4: This is just really fucking boring.
- 30:45Speaker 5: That's, well, that was going to be my question.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Where do you want to start? That's where we're going
- 30:48Speaker 1: to start.
- 30:49Speaker 14: We'll start at the very beginning because it's got to
- 30:50Speaker 14: be the slowest opening.
- 30:52Speaker 5: It's just like, all right.
- 30:53Speaker 11: It was like four and a half minutes of them
- 30:55Speaker 11: driving on the road.
- 30:56Speaker 1: They even stop at 70s.
- 31:00Speaker 11: Background rock and roll going on, man.
- 31:03Speaker 14: It was like the opening to Manos, Hands of Fate.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's just like, keep driving, driving. Though, you mentioned they
- 31:08Speaker 1: stopped even at the toll booth.
- 31:09Speaker 14: That actually was one of my favorite moments of the
- 31:11Speaker 14: movie is just the expression on that woman at.
- 31:13Speaker 5: The toll booth.
- 31:14Speaker 1: There you go, I'm in a movie. It was the
- 31:17Speaker 1: best look ever. Look at one of these things. It's
- 31:19Speaker 1: a toll booth. Have you ever seen one?
- 31:21Speaker 12: Which I think was cut in later, too. It didn't
- 31:23Speaker 12: look like that was the same toll booth lady that
- 31:25Speaker 12: was actually in the long shot. I could be wrong
- 31:26Speaker 12: because I was watching it on a very small screen.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I like that you're looking for that continuity.
- 31:33Speaker 1: That early on because it doesn't get any better.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I like that the movie, even though people messed up
- 31:38Speaker 2: their lines constantly, they're just like, we're rolling with it.
- 31:41Speaker 1: No second take.
- 31:45Speaker 8: Just because it came to me now and I'm afraid
- 31:46Speaker 8: I'm going to forget it later, the lamb chop lab
- 31:50Speaker 8: assistant in the lab.
- 31:52Speaker 1: That couldn't get his... He would pause and you could see.
- 31:55Speaker 5: Oh, you don't remember his name? No, I know.
- 31:58Speaker 16: Gene.
- 31:59Speaker 13: Gene.
- 32:00Speaker 5: You know Gene.
- 32:01Speaker 11: There are times when I suspect that you're the brains
- 32:04Speaker 11: for this outfit.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I think if we're going to go right off the bat,
- 32:09Speaker 1: it's before we're even on the road. As soon as
- 32:11Speaker 1: it opens with our fun narrator.
- 32:14Speaker 5: I love the narrator. I'm like, oh, the wood paneling.
- 32:19Speaker 1: That's when you know you're in trouble. If a movie
- 32:21Speaker 1: can't afford real walls, I know I can make fun
- 32:23Speaker 1: of it.
- 32:23Speaker 5: I grew up with wood paneling. Yeah, we had that too. Yeah,
- 32:26Speaker 5: I'm just like, oh, this is going to be ghetto.
- 32:29Speaker 11: Did you notice in the house there is... glossy black painted.
- 32:34Speaker 2: I love the interior of Anne's house.
- 32:40Speaker 1: That's because you love cheetah print? There's lion print.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Mostly cheetah, but there's not one, but at least.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Two tiger paintings. I'm pretty impressed with the artwork.
- 32:53Speaker 11: I think that was an original Rembrandt on The glossy
- 32:59Speaker 11: black painted wood panel.
- 33:00Speaker 1: As you would have.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Next to the black light framed poster or whatever that
- 33:05Speaker 5: one was.
- 33:06Speaker 1: It looked like it was like a black light conquistador
- 33:09Speaker 1: or something.
- 33:10Speaker 11: I don't know what it was.
- 33:10Speaker 5: It was pretty groovy.
- 33:11Speaker 1: She had a groovy pad.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Let me say that, that, that cheetah print beanbag she
- 33:17Speaker 5: had going on that.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Man, that's how you know she was cool.
- 33:20Speaker 11: Yeah, the druggie sister, her hair was the color of
- 33:23Speaker 11: glossy black painted wood panels.
- 33:25Speaker 5: It's because they only had one color paint and they
- 33:27Speaker 5: had to do everything with it. She was blonde when
- 33:29Speaker 5: she got there. Yeah, but that narrator, I mean, A,
- 33:32Speaker 5: I love the fact that he's reading his lines.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Off the script.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that was very obvious.
- 33:35Speaker 1: My favorite part of it all is that he just
- 33:38Speaker 1: goes into a coffee and grabs a cigarette. And it's
- 33:41Speaker 1: just like. That's good enough.
- 33:43Speaker 5: We'll close with that anyway. Yeah, we're jumping way ahead,
- 33:46Speaker 5: but I... Yeah, spoiler alert.
- 33:49Speaker 1: At least he didn't get to that part. Yeah, by
- 33:51Speaker 1: the end, I thought it was.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Well, maybe he just went with it, because that first
- 33:55Speaker 5: one didn't seem like it was fake, but I almost... Yeah,
- 33:57Speaker 5: the first one didn't seem fake, but then... I almost
- 34:00Speaker 5: hurt myself laughing at that first one.
- 34:02Speaker 1: It was the funniest thing in this movie.
- 34:04Speaker 5: There was only one thing funny and it was that
- 34:06Speaker 5: guy coughing in the middle of his big monologue and.
- 34:10Speaker 1: He just kept going.
- 34:11Speaker 2: There's two funny things. I mean, this is also jumping
- 34:14Speaker 2: way ahead when he's like, now what you've witnessed is
- 34:17Speaker 2: based on fact and possibility.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Oh, that was funny.
- 34:23Speaker 5: That's what killed me. He didn't do the pause.
- 34:26Speaker 11: This story has been based partly on fact, partly on Probability.
- 34:32Speaker 11: That was not the word I thought was going to
- 34:35Speaker 11: come next.
- 34:36Speaker 17: No.
- 34:37Speaker 11: Probability. And then, yes, then he goes, and yet there.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Are far too.
- 34:44Speaker 11: Many of us taking the good way of life for granted.
- 34:48Speaker 5: Did you find like a transcript online?
- 34:50Speaker 1: Is that what you're reading? I wrote the movie. He
- 34:52Speaker 1: typed it as he went. He was taking dictation. He
- 34:56Speaker 1: watched it seven times. There's a lot of quotable stuff
- 34:59Speaker 1: in there.
- 35:01Speaker 14: After he's turned into the creature, I just love the
- 35:04Speaker 14: line with the two stoners or druggies. They make the comment,
- 35:07Speaker 14: have you seen him? Man, have you seen his body?
- 35:11Speaker 14: It's just not his body. Have you seen his head?
- 35:14Speaker 1: Here's the line.
- 35:16Speaker 5: It's not only his physical appearance anymore. It's his head.
- 35:22Speaker 1: He's just not commercial anymore. And he means his mind.
- 35:27Speaker 1: He doesn't even mean his head.
- 35:28Speaker 5: It's his head, man. He's not even Herschel anymore.
- 35:32Speaker 1: He's not even there. Dude.
- 35:34Speaker 11: See, you know what I really wish I'd done.
- 35:36Speaker 14: Was write down some of these lines as it was going.
- 35:41Speaker 14: We could have made a top ten list of just
- 35:43Speaker 14: some of the cheesy lines in it. Because the closing line, well,
- 35:46Speaker 14: you probably have it on there that the father tells
- 35:49Speaker 14: the girl as he's taking her away to where it's just,
- 35:51Speaker 14: you know, He's apologizing for the state of Herschel as
- 35:55Speaker 14: he's going and getting in the car.
- 35:56Speaker 5: You have that there?
- 35:57Speaker 10: No. No.
- 35:59Speaker 14: I just remember it was something along the line of
- 36:01Speaker 14: it's just he's apologizing to her. He's like, well, sorry,
- 36:04Speaker 14: you know, we performed some experiments on him. And, you know,
- 36:10Speaker 14: we didn't know that he was a drug addict and
- 36:12Speaker 14: that he'd been a non.
- 36:13Speaker 1: It's like he's going on with this weird explanation. And
- 36:17Speaker 1: she's like, okay.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 11: It was in NOM and he was burned, which is
- 36:21Speaker 11: weird because that dude later after this movie actually was
- 36:25Speaker 11: badly burned.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Well, he looked like he had been anyway.
- 36:30Speaker 2: He was.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Early in the movie I sat there going, what is
- 36:33Speaker 1: up with his skin?
- 36:33Speaker 5: And then I thought maybe that was the real backstory,
- 36:36Speaker 5: but his skin was weird.
- 36:38Speaker 11: Well, maybe it was before the movie, but it sounded
- 36:42Speaker 11: like from what I read that it was after it.
- 36:45Speaker 11: And he lost his animals this year, in February of
- 36:48Speaker 11: this year. He had an animal sanctuary, but he didn't
- 36:54Speaker 11: have the right permits to have an animal sanctuary.
- 36:58Speaker 5: And so they took.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Them all away in February of this year.
- 37:01Speaker 5: So what has he been doing since Blood Freak? I
- 37:04Speaker 5: don't know.
- 37:05Speaker 11: My wife walked by while I was watching part of this,
- 37:08Speaker 11: and she saw the narrator, and she just... Couldn't watch it.
- 37:11Speaker 11: She said, all I can think while he's talking is
- 37:13Speaker 11: that he's probably dead now.
- 37:18Speaker 1: So that's the narrator.
- 37:21Speaker 11: I think he was saying something like in sort of
- 37:25Speaker 11: a Captain Kirk quality he had. Interesting how when we
- 37:31Speaker 11: come to moments of despair, when we can't seem to
- 37:35Speaker 11: solve our problems any other way, then But not until then.
- 37:41Speaker 5: We turned to God. Only would be made better if
- 37:45Speaker 5: you were wearing a cool purple slash blue shirt and smoking.
- 37:49Speaker 5: People don't look like that anymore.
- 37:51Speaker 10: No.
- 37:52Speaker 1: But they used to.
- 37:53Speaker 5: I was there.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I saw it.
- 37:55Speaker 5: I've been there, man.
- 37:57Speaker 1: That's like a little digression in The Watchmen, if you've
- 38:01Speaker 1: ever read that. Like in one of the stories in
- 38:03Speaker 1: between the graphic arts panels where Alan Moore goes on
- 38:06Speaker 1: this whole thing about how If you look at certain generations.
- 38:10Speaker 5: In the U.S. history, I guess just in any, there's.
- 38:12Speaker 14: Always certain looks to people that don't exist anymore. If
- 38:17Speaker 14: you look at somebody, it's like, that person looks like
- 38:19Speaker 14: they're from the 50s.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Just their facial structures and stuff.
- 38:23Speaker 14: It's pretty characteristic of most generations as you go back
- 38:27Speaker 14: and look at photos.
- 38:28Speaker 11: They don't make hippie girls like the ones I grew
- 38:32Speaker 11: up with. Every now and then you'll see one out
- 38:34Speaker 11: walking around Bardstown Road and you'll think, somebody had to
- 38:37Speaker 11: put her together in their garage like an antique car
- 38:41Speaker 11: from spare parts because it's not really the same.
- 38:45Speaker 5: Well, it's like that going further back, like the old
- 38:48Speaker 5: pin-up girls from the 40s.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Girls don't look like that now.
- 38:52Speaker 5: It's just a different body type.
- 38:54Speaker 1: I don't know what happened.
- 38:55Speaker 5: Something changed over these years, but it's weird.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really interesting because even though, like if you
- 39:02Speaker 2: look at the Cheesecake model's, they had wider hips, but
- 39:06Speaker 2: if you look at their arms, their arms are really thin.
- 39:09Speaker 2: If a woman nowadays were to have hips that wide
- 39:12Speaker 2: and have any filling to her in her midsection, she
- 39:18Speaker 2: would have thicker arms. That always confuses me.
- 39:21Speaker 1: That's very strange.
- 39:22Speaker 2: That's weird.
- 39:23Speaker 12: I always just thought looks sort of fell in and
- 39:25Speaker 12: out of favor and that the representations of them are
- 39:28Speaker 12: sort of, but that doesn't, stand.
- 39:30Speaker 11: Well, I think partly it is people conform to certain looks,
- 39:35Speaker 11: and so it creates the illusion that things existed that
- 39:39Speaker 11: don't anymore.
- 39:40Speaker 5: But I don't know.
- 39:43Speaker 11: You ever think about this fantastic, Order of things.
- 39:50Speaker 5: You're going to do that all the time, aren't you?
- 39:53Speaker 1: It's just so fun. I thought of him as, you
- 39:55Speaker 1: know how, is it Bill Clinton's brother, is it Roger?
- 39:59Speaker 5: The rock star?
- 40:01Speaker 8: Right, the one that, he's like, oh yeah, you can
- 40:03Speaker 8: tell he's Bill Clinton's brother, but he hasn't got his
- 40:06Speaker 8: shit together. I thought of him as like, the narrator
- 40:11Speaker 8: is like the Roger Clinton, Vincent Price.
- 40:15Speaker 1: You know, he looked, he wanted to be the director.
- 40:17Speaker 1: He wanted to kind.
- 40:18Speaker 8: Of have that look, but he was in the seventies
- 40:20Speaker 8: and he, yeah, he couldn't keep his shit together pretty much.
- 40:26Speaker 5: I can't think of Roger Clinton without, do you know
- 40:29Speaker 5: the reference I'm about to make? It's our friend in common.
- 40:33Speaker 5: This was during the Clinton era. This is when Clinton
- 40:37Speaker 5: was the president of our country and, His brother was
- 40:41Speaker 5: going around on tour with his rocking band, and he
- 40:44Speaker 5: came here to our town, and our mutual friend was working,
- 40:48Speaker 5: and I think the band that he was setting up
- 40:51Speaker 5: drums for opened for the Roger Clinton band. Afterwards, I
- 40:57Speaker 5: guess the few people that cared were hanging around getting
- 41:00Speaker 5: him to sign stuff, and he could care less about
- 41:03Speaker 5: the guy, but he knew this is my one chance,
- 41:06Speaker 5: and how stupid.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Can I make this? So he asked him if he
- 41:10Speaker 1: would sign.
- 41:11Speaker 5: An autograph and address it, personalize it to Turbo Rimjob.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I know the... Yeah. You know who I'm talking about.
- 41:19Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 41:20Speaker 1: And he did.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Without... Granted, he.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Had to have been drunk off his mind.
- 41:24Speaker 5: But without that, he and I went, Turbo Rimjob. All right.
- 41:27Speaker 1: And scribbled away. Here you go, buddy. And handed it
- 41:30Speaker 1: to him.
- 41:30Speaker 5: I was just like, that guy is related to the
- 41:34Speaker 5: leader of our country.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Maybe he just didn't care. I actually.
- 41:38Speaker 14: I met Carrie Fisher at a convention, and she was
- 41:43Speaker 14: just asking how they wanted stuff personalized, and I said,
- 41:47Speaker 14: can you sign it to Bo, the restraining order stands.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Carrie Fisher, and she did. I like that one.
- 41:55Speaker 1: It turned out nice. She's always had a sense of humor, though.
- 41:58Speaker 14: I think she was also drunk, ridiculously, because when I
- 42:02Speaker 14: got there, I mean, she had the convention security guard
- 42:06Speaker 14: or whatever, and She just had this giant Sam's Club
- 42:10Speaker 14: bag of Cracker Jacks. She tears it open and she
- 42:16Speaker 14: dumps the whole thing out on the table and then
- 42:19Speaker 14: she just tosses the bag down on the ground and
- 42:21Speaker 14: she signs somebody else's autograph and the people there are
- 42:24Speaker 14: looking at her like, what do we do?
- 42:25Speaker 1: And they start to clean up. Don't clean it. Just
- 42:29Speaker 1: pick out. I just like the peanuts. Just pick out
- 42:31Speaker 1: the peanuts.
- 42:32Speaker 5: You can clean the rest up. Those are good peanuts.
- 42:37Speaker 1: They started making a separate bagged version of just the peanuts.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 1: You have to look for them.
- 42:41Speaker 11: As they should.
- 42:42Speaker 1: They're hard to come by.
- 42:43Speaker 11: They're called Carrie Fisher's nuts.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Carrie Fisher's nuts.
- 42:49Speaker 11: Well, you know, if you go through a Taco Bell,
- 42:52Speaker 11: I think I've mentioned this, and you ask for a
- 42:54Speaker 11: couple of caramel apple loompa loompas, they just.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Give them to you.
- 42:58Speaker 11: They don't ask you what you're talking about.
- 43:01Speaker 1: What is it they give you then? The empanadas. Little
- 43:04Speaker 1: orange dudes. Deep fried. Deep fried orange dudes.
- 43:08Speaker 11: You just say, give me a couple of those Oompa Loompas,
- 43:11Speaker 11: and they throw.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Them in the bag. That's any job where people can't
- 43:15Speaker 2: pronounce things. People ask me all the time for a
- 43:17Speaker 2: gondola or an Americana, and I'm just like, I know
- 43:21Speaker 2: what you mean.
- 43:22Speaker 5: Well, we get that at the theater.
- 43:23Speaker 14: They won't know how to pronounce the titles, and it's
- 43:24Speaker 14: gotten to the point where nobody asks for movies anymore,
- 43:28Speaker 14: like the movie Flight.
- 43:28Speaker 1: They just come in, two for Denzel. Okay. All righty.
- 43:33Speaker 5: Inzel it is.
- 43:34Speaker 14: I like it every now and then when we get
- 43:36Speaker 14: one where it throws them like we had, oh, God,
- 43:40Speaker 14: I can't remember. It was Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, and
- 43:44Speaker 14: it ran over with a conspirator. We had them both
- 43:47Speaker 14: for one week, and one week alone people just came
- 43:49Speaker 14: in and said, one for the Lincoln movie.
- 43:51Speaker 5: Which one? And all of a sudden it looked like
- 43:54Speaker 5: it just blew a neuron. Oh, if only the Spielberg
- 43:57Speaker 5: one would have made it out faster.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Three options they couldn't have. I know, yeah. You ought
- 44:02Speaker 1: to just find a way to get them all there
- 44:03Speaker 1: at the same.
- 44:05Speaker 13: Time.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Every now and then, too, always the best one was
- 44:08Speaker 1: two for the French movie. We have three.
- 44:11Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 44:14Speaker 1: One of them you could probably sell. Whichever one they
- 44:17Speaker 1: have a loaf of bread when they're on their way home.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Oh, damn, that's all.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Speaking of Lincoln, did anybody else watch the trailer and
- 44:24Speaker 4: think it... When I watched it, it felt like a parody.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Like, there's this video on Cracked a while back, the
- 44:30Speaker 4: trailer for every Oscar-winning movie ever made, and it was
- 44:32Speaker 4: just basically a parody, and that's what this felt exactly like.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 5: I thought so. It was unbelievable.
- 44:39Speaker 4: And I get to go get paid to see it,
- 44:41Speaker 4: which I'm very excited about.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Because that's going to be a.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Fun review to write. I don't expect to like it.
- 44:46Speaker 1: That cocksucker Lincoln. Fuck him.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Cocksucker Lincoln.
- 44:54Speaker 10: All right.
- 44:54Speaker 1: We've spiraled off as we usually do.
- 44:58Speaker 2: You're so big.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I like mustaches.
- 45:02Speaker 6: And you must be very strong.
- 45:10Speaker 7: And you're very beautiful.
- 45:13Speaker 4: And you have a boyfriend.
- 45:15Speaker 21: So?
- 45:16Speaker 6: You shouldn't be acting this way with me. Especially when
- 45:19Speaker 6: you're with someone else.
- 45:20Speaker 2: You've got to be putting me on.
- 45:22Speaker 10: Guy doesn't mind if I'm like someone else.
- 45:26Speaker 2: He wouldn't even mind if I went to bed with you.
- 45:29Speaker 6: I just don't go for a girl that acts like
- 45:31Speaker 6: a tramp. Even if she's very beautiful.
- 45:35Speaker 13: Well, thanks a lot.
- 45:37Speaker 6: You're nothing but a dumb bastard who doesn't know where
- 45:39Speaker 6: it's at anyway.
- 45:41Speaker 1: So, speaking of.
- 45:43Speaker 14: So, let's get back to the emancipation of turkeys with
- 45:45Speaker 14: Blood Freak.
- 45:46Speaker 5: I was trying to figure out, like, as soon as
- 45:48Speaker 5: we see our quote-unquote hero... protagonist whatever you want to
- 45:52Speaker 5: call that dude i'm i kept trying to figure out
- 45:54Speaker 5: what like what what is my term for this guy.
- 45:57Speaker 22: I i call him the smoking narrator well no not
- 46:00Speaker 22: him our like hero our guy on the bike and
- 46:04Speaker 22: like finally as soon as he stops and he meets
- 46:06Speaker 22: the old man and he refers to him as husky
- 46:10Speaker 22: I was like, oh.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I could use a Husky boy like you.
- 46:13Speaker 5: I was like, you pinpointed it for me.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Thank you. I was leaning towards Meathead, but I mean,
- 46:18Speaker 1: Husky will work.
- 46:20Speaker 2: He looks like Andre the Giant and Joaquin Phoenix put together.
- 46:23Speaker 11: Well, he's an interesting looking guy, but there's a little
- 46:27Speaker 11: Roy Clark in there, too.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:30Speaker 11: And Eddie Money.
- 46:33Speaker 1: And yes, Eddie Money. There's some Eddie Money. He seems
- 46:36Speaker 1: like a cartoon.
- 46:37Speaker 5: What was the big burly dude on like Will Abner
- 46:40Speaker 5: or somebody? Who's the one that like, there's somebody that
- 46:42Speaker 5: looks just like him. Yeah, that guy.
- 46:45Speaker 1: He looks just like that guy.
- 46:46Speaker 12: Isn't there a line where they refer to him as
- 46:48Speaker 12: like strong and handsome and appreciates being attractive to women?
- 46:52Speaker 1: And then I was like, oh, he wrote that line.
- 46:56Speaker 5: Of course he did.
- 46:56Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 46:57Speaker 5: He did.
- 46:57Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 46:58Speaker 5: That's some Joe Cocker.
- 47:01Speaker 11: Little Joe Cocker.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Something.
- 47:05Speaker 11: Oh, he's an interesting looking guy.
- 47:07Speaker 1: That's one way of putting it.
- 47:08Speaker 2: He has a lot of hair. He's got really big hair.
- 47:10Speaker 5: He had a lot of hair.
- 47:11Speaker 11: It looms avalanche-y over his head.
- 47:14Speaker 1: It kind of reminded me of the Yeti. His hair.
- 47:19Speaker 5: He was not near as expressive as that Yeti.
- 47:21Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 47:22Speaker 2: I have a friend who his facial expression sometimes reminded
- 47:26Speaker 2: me of the Yeti. I had to tell him about that.
- 47:28Speaker 2: He was like.
- 47:28Speaker 5: Did he appreciate that?
- 47:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he kind of did.
- 47:30Speaker 5: He obviously hasn't seen the movie. Can you do that
- 47:37Speaker 5: with your nipple?
- 47:39Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 5: That's gross.
- 47:41Speaker 2: So....
- 47:44Speaker 1: The nipple.
- 47:45Speaker 10: Do you not.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Remember the nipple?
- 47:46Speaker 2: I thought it was like a sword.
- 47:49Speaker 1: We thought that at first until we dissected it. No,
- 47:51Speaker 1: it has to be a nipple. It's a nipple. You
- 47:55Speaker 1: can wish it was whatever you want.
- 47:56Speaker 5: It really takes a creepy turn in there, doesn't it?
- 48:00Speaker 1: Which I realize, yeah, that's one of the only times
- 48:02Speaker 1: I'll probably say to somebody, no, it's not a sword.
- 48:05Speaker 7: It's a nipple.
- 48:06Speaker 1: It's not a gunshot wound. That's a nipple. Come on,
- 48:09Speaker 1: damn it.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Oh my.
- 48:11Speaker 10: We're better.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Better.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I liked it better.
- 48:12Speaker 5: And the religious sister.
- 48:13Speaker 7: The angel.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Angel.
- 48:14Speaker 5: I also like that she disappears.
- 48:15Speaker 4: She's just gone.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I guess.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I didn't know what that was. Midway in I was
- 48:17Speaker 1: just like.
- 48:39Speaker 5: What happened to the other girl who was supposed to
- 48:41Speaker 5: be like our main character?
- 48:43Speaker 1: She just disappeared and we switched off.
- 48:45Speaker 14: It kind of turns into reefer madness. It's like he
- 48:48Speaker 14: just smokes a joint and all of a sudden it's
- 48:50Speaker 14: like downhill slope.
- 48:52Speaker 2: I also thought it was like a movie.
- 48:53Speaker 5: And he got hooked.
- 48:54Speaker 2: I thought it was a movie version of one of
- 48:56Speaker 2: those religious tracks that people go through.
- 48:58Speaker 5: That's true.
- 48:59Speaker 1: It does have that quality to it. Very propaganda.
- 49:02Speaker 5: Correct.
- 49:03Speaker 1: It's very, very high and mighty.
- 49:07Speaker 5: But again, I'm assuming everybody in this movie was on drugs.
- 49:11Speaker 5: But at the same time, they're so preachy about everything.
- 49:14Speaker 1: That's what I didn't notice.
- 49:15Speaker 5: Oh, sorry.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I was just going to say, I was watching the
- 49:19Speaker 2: movie and I was like, was this... put on by
- 49:20Speaker 2: a church or something like that?
- 49:22Speaker 1: It seems like it.
- 49:22Speaker 2: Because none of those people are actors, you can tell.
- 49:24Speaker 2: These are just regular people that are like, hey, I'm
- 49:27Speaker 2: making a movie, want to be in it? Oh.
- 49:29Speaker 21: All of the acting was so stilted except for the
- 49:31Speaker 21: drug scenes. When they're sitting around doing coke, you're like, oh,
- 49:34Speaker 21: that's people sitting around doing coke. It felt supernatural. But
- 49:37Speaker 21: every other scene, they didn't know how to function or
- 49:39Speaker 21: use words or.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Drugs, no problem.
- 49:42Speaker 5: Well, that very early party scene, I guess, is what
- 49:45Speaker 5: you're talking about. The scary part about that is it's
- 49:47Speaker 5: not anybody from the movie. It actually just looks like
- 49:50Speaker 5: Super 8 footage of your parents' friends having a party.
- 49:54Speaker 1: That's exactly what I thought, too.
- 49:56Speaker 5: We ended up at a party with a bunch of, like,
- 49:58Speaker 5: 50-year-old hippie?
- 49:59Speaker 1: What is going on here? The one woman that was like, oh,
- 50:03Speaker 1: that's got to be the mom. That one threw me.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I was like, oh. She takes him to a party
- 50:08Speaker 1: to where she's like 20 years, where they're both 20
- 50:11Speaker 1: years younger than everyone else at the party. It's just
- 50:13Speaker 1: so weird. And it's at her house.
- 50:15Speaker 14: It's like a faculty meeting meets Fear and Logan in
- 50:18Speaker 14: Las Vegas sort of thing.
- 50:19Speaker 1: It's just so odd.
- 50:21Speaker 14: It's like I've never seen that many horn-rimmed glasses partaking
- 50:24Speaker 14: in drugs before.
- 50:26Speaker 5: At least, you know, not until Wes.
- 50:27Speaker 14: Anderson films became popular, but that's a different story.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Oh, but yeah, they're all so.
- 50:33Speaker 5: Old in that little part.
- 50:35Speaker 2: I forgot why she lived in that house, because she's like,
- 50:36Speaker 2: I'm going to go change. And then he's, like, banging
- 50:39Speaker 2: her sister.
- 50:40Speaker 5: Where is she?
- 50:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 50:42Speaker 1: She disappeared.
- 50:43Speaker 2: He said about it or something because, like, she was
- 50:46Speaker 2: kind of interested in him, right?
- 50:47Speaker 14: Well, night and day and the passing of time seem
- 50:50Speaker 14: to be a very incidental thing. Especially once he went
- 50:54Speaker 14: on the killing spree. I was like, is this all
- 50:56Speaker 14: in the same night? Or is this multiple nights?
- 50:59Speaker 1: I could not figure out a sense of time. I
- 51:01Speaker 1: couldn't figure out if he'd even killed the person sometimes.
- 51:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Or if he was going... He picks the one girl.
- 51:07Speaker 8: I didn't understand that he picks one girl up and
- 51:09Speaker 8: he's carrying her off, and you think she's screaming to.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Die, but she doesn't scream to die.
- 51:13Speaker 11: No she doesn't she kicks her legs for a while
- 51:16Speaker 11: and that's it and then eventually she screams.
- 51:19Speaker 14: She screams like after she's dying right when like her
- 51:22Speaker 14: throat's been slit that's when she keeps screaming well that's the.
- 51:25Speaker 11: Other girl too carries her she just kicks her legs
- 51:28Speaker 11: like scissors yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 1: She doesn't try to get away she just scissors them
- 51:31Speaker 1: back and forth.
- 51:32Speaker 8: Or when the one drug guy he sees it through
- 51:34Speaker 8: the window so he leaves the house and he just
- 51:37Speaker 8: kind of walks you know Instead of running to a
- 51:40Speaker 8: historic lot.
- 51:41Speaker 2: And it makes the most noise ever.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Like you could hide in a place that's more quiet.
- 51:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Is that the guy who got his.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Leg cut off.
- 51:51Speaker 4: I was reading on IMDb, apparently he's actually an amputee.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he is an amputee.
- 51:54Speaker 2: I thought that looked very convincing.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I wonder if he was having so much trouble walking.
- 51:58Speaker 5: I don't know if his leg got cut off.
- 52:00Speaker 14: He was having trouble holding on to the stump. He
- 52:02Speaker 14: kept trying to slip out the pants leg.
- 52:05Speaker 11: He wasn't an amputee when they did the movie.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Just after that scene.
- 52:11Speaker 2: I watched that and I was like, how did they
- 52:12Speaker 2: accomplish this? I was like, this is a really good effect.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Look at that green screen.
- 52:17Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 52:19Speaker 4: See, that whole sequence, because my three-year-old daughter was up,
- 52:23Speaker 4: and so she was out playing, and during the scene
- 52:24Speaker 4: where everybody was getting killed, it was a lot of fun, because... The.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Woman just kept screaming.
- 52:31Speaker 4: She would scream and then stop for a couple seconds
- 52:33Speaker 4: and scream again, and every time, my daughter would just
- 52:35Speaker 4: scream right after her and imitate her. She was having
- 52:38Speaker 4: a great time with this movie.
- 52:40Speaker 5: It's good that somebody did. Yeah, I know.
- 52:42Speaker 4: It was more entertaining watching my daughter.
- 52:43Speaker 11: Well, you know, anything she can dig, I can dig.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 52:49Speaker 1: You are going to live and die by this movie.
- 52:52Speaker 4: See, but then he switches to the other girl and
- 52:54Speaker 4: then he digs the drugs. He's a very flaky man.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Easily he changes. She calls him a coward. And then
- 53:01Speaker 1: he's like, okay, give it to me. I'm going to
- 53:02Speaker 1: smoke and I'm going to fuck you. He's really bogarting
- 53:05Speaker 1: that joint, though. Did you notice that? He's just like
- 53:07Speaker 1: sucking it.
- 53:07Speaker 4: He's like, I'm going to share, dude.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Or when he's hooked.
- 53:10Speaker 5: That's why he got hooked.
- 53:13Speaker 4: He starts getting these. His face does get a little expressive, though.
- 53:15Speaker 4: He looks really happy about it. It's like his eyes
- 53:18Speaker 4: get all wide.
- 53:18Speaker 11: He does have a little Andre the Giant. But also
- 53:22Speaker 11: in the corner of his mouth, there's a little Arnold.
- 53:25Speaker 11: A little trace of Arnold sometimes. And when you see it,
- 53:29Speaker 11: it's like dead on. And she, Angel, she's kind of
- 53:33Speaker 11: like Peg Bundy Loretta Lynn.
- 53:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 2: You know, I think she's probably a really beautiful person. Like,
- 53:42Speaker 2: she had very nice teeth and a very nice face,
- 53:45Speaker 2: but her eyebrows drove me crazy.
- 53:47Speaker 1: What, the woolly bears?
- 53:49Speaker 2: No, they were, like, these sharpie things that were just, like,
- 53:52Speaker 2: drawn on her face. They kind of had, like, little
- 53:55Speaker 2: cut angles.
- 53:56Speaker 11: Yeah, like, not where eyebrows.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Should be on a person's face. They, like, started in
- 54:00Speaker 2: the middle of her eye and, like, stopped.
- 54:02Speaker 5: So you were thinking of the hippie guy who had
- 54:04Speaker 5: just one big eyebrow.
- 54:05Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 54:06Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 54:07Speaker 11: I was thinking of the drug guy who came into
- 54:11Speaker 11: the house wearing a tight white t-shirt with a big
- 54:15Speaker 11: wad of drugs stuck on it.
- 54:16Speaker 5: That would be the drug guy.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Because his name is Guy.
- 54:20Speaker 4: Guy.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Again, they're so creative here.
- 54:23Speaker 2: No, it wasn't Guy.
- 54:24Speaker 5: It was Guy's guy. It was the rapist guy.
- 54:27Speaker 4: The wannabe rapist.
- 54:28Speaker 5: Yeah, he had names.
- 54:29Speaker 14: I like the fact that... herschel was named after herschel
- 54:32Speaker 14: gordon lewis.
- 54:33Speaker 5: I thought that immediately and then yeah that's.
- 54:36Speaker 1: What it was because no i that but i mean
- 54:38Speaker 1: as soon as you said blood freak i didn't pay
- 54:40Speaker 1: attention to the initial request i was like oh i
- 54:42Speaker 1: love blood feast oh blood freak yeah wait a minute
- 54:45Speaker 1: that's not right.
- 54:46Speaker 11: My sister she's a doll but this bible stuff is
- 54:50Speaker 11: really a drag.
- 54:52Speaker 1: She's got a point i mean bible stuff.
- 54:55Speaker 2: The bible stuff is a drag.
- 54:56Speaker 5: It is a drag really so it's like something out
- 55:01Speaker 5: of star trek or the twilight zone yeah.
- 55:06Speaker 1: The hippies were laughing.
- 55:07Speaker 14: Yeah i mean the only thing that i remember laughing
- 55:11Speaker 14: at a lot was the whole scene to where he
- 55:13Speaker 14: shows up after he's transformed with the turkey head and
- 55:16Speaker 14: he goes into her bedroom at night and she's not
- 55:19Speaker 14: taken aback at all it's just like.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Oh, what's happened to you? It's like he got a
- 55:23Speaker 1: scrape or something or he has a black eye. No,
- 55:25Speaker 1: he writes a note to give her.
- 55:27Speaker 5: He writes a fucking book because he has a turkey head.
- 55:31Speaker 11: She's laying on the bed there and she's reading and so.
- 55:34Speaker 2: That was before people became concerned with Saving Tree.
- 55:38Speaker 1: But then it goes into the whole scene like it
- 55:40Speaker 1: just blacks out.
- 55:41Speaker 14: I don't know if it was just they ran out
- 55:42Speaker 14: of film or what happened but then you just hear
- 55:44Speaker 14: like the gobbling sounds and the darkness.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Well.
- 55:48Speaker 1: No, that's my favorite. She has the whole little.
- 55:51Speaker 5: Rundown there of like, well, I mean, you know, what
- 55:55Speaker 5: if you stay like this?
- 55:56Speaker 1: I mean, she goes back and forth with that for
- 55:58Speaker 1: like 15 minutes.
- 55:59Speaker 5: Because that goes into the whole, what will the children think?
- 56:03Speaker 1: What are they going to look like?
- 56:05Speaker 11: What will they look like? Their father?
- 56:09Speaker 1: But my favorite is that he then turns the light off.
- 56:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:13Speaker 1: And so I assume then she's going to, like, scream
- 56:15Speaker 1: or run out of the room, but she just says, oh, Herschel.
- 56:18Speaker 10: Oh, Herschel.
- 56:19Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, wait, now you're into it?
- 56:21Speaker 1: That makes you a turkey fucker.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Well, see, it all turned out to be a dream anyway.
- 56:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 56:26Speaker 11: Spoiler alert for me.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Spoiler alert.
- 56:30Speaker 5: Yeah, sorry.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Which, what a boring dream. I mean, kind of, you know.
- 56:35Speaker 11: I think he dreamed that it was a dream and
- 56:37Speaker 11: he's really got a turkey head. That was a convincing
- 56:42Speaker 11: turkey head.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Who dreams that they go to work?
- 56:44Speaker 5: You've never done that?
- 56:47Speaker 1: I mean, did you work for, you know?
- 56:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I've had work dreams.
- 56:50Speaker 1: They suck. I'm sorry.
- 56:53Speaker 11: When I worked at an art gallery, I would dream
- 56:57Speaker 11: that I was vacuuming and closing up.
- 57:01Speaker 5: And then the alarm would go off and I'd have
- 57:03Speaker 5: to get out.
- 57:03Speaker 1: I can't even remember if I... I mentioned this movie before.
- 57:06Speaker 5: It might have been you and I talking about Long Dream.
- 57:09Speaker 4: Did I tell you about that? Okay, I thought so.
- 57:11Speaker 4: What was the Spiral one called?
- 57:13Speaker 5: Uzumaki was the other one.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Long Dream is just about this fellow where every time
- 57:20Speaker 1: he goes to sleep, he's dreaming years of his life,
- 57:22Speaker 1: and then he wakes up, and all of a sudden
- 57:23Speaker 1: it's like 10 years ago when.
- 57:24Speaker 5: He first started the dream. It's like only a day
- 57:26Speaker 5: has passed. It's a guy that's been so.
- 57:28Speaker 4: I want to see it.
- 57:29Speaker 1: I'm lost in here.
- 57:30Speaker 5: What happened?
- 57:36Speaker 1: No, Inception.
- 57:37Speaker 8: I've lost a year of my life watching it.
- 57:41Speaker 11: I loved actually working at the theater when we had that,
- 57:43Speaker 11: because I loved to walk into Inception right before it
- 57:46Speaker 11: ended and just hear everyone just.
- 57:48Speaker 5: It was like this audible, just like the audience was
- 57:50Speaker 5: pissed at the screen moment.
- 57:53Speaker 11: I saw Herschel with a chick last night.
- 57:56Speaker 16: A chick.
- 57:56Speaker 5: A chick.
- 57:57Speaker 1: I get it.
- 58:02Speaker 11: This is after he has a fucking turkey head it's
- 58:05Speaker 11: like urschel's not so great i saw him with a
- 58:09Speaker 11: chick last night.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Aside from the whole.
- 58:13Speaker 11: Turkey fucking head thing he's sort of like dating.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Around on you yeah.
- 58:20Speaker 4: I didn't think Guy knew about the turkey head at
- 58:22Speaker 4: that point.
- 58:22Speaker 1: I don't think he did. I don't think he did.
- 58:23Speaker 5: She did.
- 58:24Speaker 1: But it makes it funnier.
- 58:25Speaker 4: Yeah, which is why when she's like, no, he wasn't,
- 58:27Speaker 4: because she knows, like, no, he wasn't.
- 58:29Speaker 5: Oh, I couldn't tell.
- 58:31Speaker 1: I had no idea.
- 58:32Speaker 4: I was paying attention.
- 58:33Speaker 5: I like actually that idea, though.
- 58:34Speaker 14: You could almost make it into a comedy, like someone
- 58:37Speaker 14: gets the turkey head, and the next thing you know,
- 58:38Speaker 14: he's cheating around because chicks are into it.
- 58:44Speaker 5: At that moment, I was like, it kind of reminded
- 58:46Speaker 5: me of like a Peanuts episode.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Beethoven's not so great.
- 58:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:51Speaker 1: What's so great about Beethoven? Marshall, he doesn't even have
- 58:56Speaker 1: baseball cards.
- 58:56Speaker 5: I mean, it's not so great.
- 58:59Speaker 11: I saw a little chick last night, a blonde chick.
- 59:02Speaker 1: That's Sally, bitch. The awkwardness of him trying to drink
- 59:07Speaker 1: the blood. Like he'd get underneath it and let it
- 59:10Speaker 1: fall on his head.
- 59:11Speaker 8: He'd get it in his hands and he'd put it
- 59:14Speaker 8: near the mask.
- 59:16Speaker 11: So he's a vampire turkey.
- 59:19Speaker 1: He'd rub it on the top of the turkey. No,
- 59:22Speaker 1: you didn't cup it.
- 59:24Speaker 14: No, the whole logic behind it is since he's got
- 59:26Speaker 14: the turkey head, he can't smoke pot, you know, joints
- 59:30Speaker 14: anymore so he has to drink the blood of drug
- 59:34Speaker 14: addicts so that way he can get a buzz.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Again you notice how none of this actually comes through
- 59:38Speaker 1: in the.
- 59:39Speaker 4: Movie like i only figured that out from the tagline.
- 59:42Speaker 5: Yeah it doesn't it doesn't ever really and he doesn't
- 59:45Speaker 5: even seem like he's going after hippies or druggies or
- 59:49Speaker 5: anything it's like he's just random Like, here's a girl.
- 59:53Speaker 4: But they all happen to be drug addicts.
- 59:54Speaker 1: They all happen to be, but yeah, again, it's the 70s.
- 59:57Speaker 1: That's everywhere you go, right?
- 59:58Speaker 2: Why is it easier to kill high people and drink
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: their blood than it is to, like, drink some type
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: of liquid drug?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I've been asking that question all my life. Well, again,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I was like, why is he hanging them upside down?
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: And then it just spills out, and he can't... Yeah,
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: I was like, there's got to be a more efficient system.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: You have to have a table. Yeah, I don't know
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: why he hung it upside down. Blood is going to
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: gush out anyway if you're slitting your throat.
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: I mean.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: If you had a flat surface, you could get a
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: cup going.
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: Come on, man. This is better.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: The guy, he cuts off his leg, and then he
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: just sits under it. He doesn't tilt his head back.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: He just sits under it and lets it fall on
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: his head. Well, that's what... I don't know why. I
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: just imagine this little thought bubble puppet. It's just like...
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: This fucking sucks. And it's dribbling all down his.
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: Face like this isn't fun anymore. That might be the
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: other time I laughed was when he slices off his
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: leg and then just sits down like he's winded. And
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: just loves pouring all over.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: His head like he's taking a shower. He's just like winded.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: I actually started to enjoy the movie at that point
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: because right after that, was.
- 1:01:03Speaker 14: Yeah i thought it ended the thing well the thing
- 1:01:06Speaker 14: uh you're probably glad you didn't get to lucy um
- 1:01:09Speaker 14: they they show an actual.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Beheading of a turkey.
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: And i got to that point.
- 1:01:14Speaker 11: Oh shit lucy's watching this it's a snuff film it.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: Is it's a turkey snuff film it's pretty shocking too
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: when you're there you're like what.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: They don't even lay the turkey i was just standing
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: there and just wax it up and they're just.
- 1:01:28Speaker 23: For a long time I captured the horror anybody who
- 1:01:32Speaker 23: wants to know that reaction we have the lucy it's.
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: Sad that that was my first thought i was like
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: oh shit lucy what have i done she is not
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: gonna be pleased.
- 1:01:46Speaker 12: I have sat through cockfighter i am i was like
- 1:01:50Speaker 12: a harry dean fan i am all right and.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Then was the weird thing with the turkey head on
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: the platter and where they're all tearing at the turkey if.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: It would have ended there it would have been kind
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: of cool. That's the coolest that movie could have been.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: It was a fucking dream and that pissed me off.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: And then not only a dream sequence but then we
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: get like 15 more minutes of shit we don't care about.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: 15 more minutes of let's lecture you of your morals
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: at you and then let's give you a happy ending
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: which we say we're giving you a happy ending just
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: for the sake of a happy ending but we'll.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Still give it to you anyway.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: And then we'll give you a little more lecture right
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: before you leave.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: And then a coughing fit. And we're done.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: I figured the coughing though was meant to be I
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: felt like it was meant to be um because he's smoking.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: He's doing drugs.
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: So I don't know if that was the case.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I felt that it was.
- 1:02:34Speaker 11: I felt that it was almost like Dan Aykroyd's bag
- 1:02:38Speaker 11: of glass toy guy.
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: It had that quality.
- 1:02:42Speaker 11: All along, he's sort of a narrator, and he's very serious.
- 1:02:48Speaker 11: Oddly serious, because everything in the movie is ridiculous, but
- 1:02:53Speaker 11: he's talking about it like, he's actually talking about something.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Are you talking about Dan Aykroyd from Nothing But Trouble?
- 1:03:00Speaker 11: No, I'm talking about the old Saturday night.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Oh, no, no.
- 1:03:03Speaker 11: When he would come on the talk show and they'd say, well,
- 1:03:06Speaker 11: there have been some concerns about this Halloween toy.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: It's a bag of glass.
- 1:03:11Speaker 11: Yeah, there's different colors, prisms and shit. Kids love it.
- 1:03:15Speaker 11: And he's always smoking maniacally.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: But.
- 1:03:21Speaker 11: Yeah, I felt like that coughing fit had to be intentional.
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: Spoiler alert.
- 1:03:28Speaker 11: I mean, I don't even know what it's supposed to
- 1:03:29Speaker 11: mean in the end, but it's like he's unreliable. I
- 1:03:32Speaker 11: guess it's because they're talking about drugs and putting chemicals
- 1:03:39Speaker 11: and stuff. People are putting chemicals and stuff, and who
- 1:03:43Speaker 11: knows what.
- 1:03:44Speaker 14: Isn't there the expression about how, like, you treat your
- 1:03:46Speaker 14: body like a mixing bowl or something like that in there?
- 1:03:50Speaker 11: And so he's talking about that, and then I guess
- 1:03:52Speaker 11: it's the irony because he's, like, chain-smoking all the way through.
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: I don't know what.
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: It really missed, it threw every possible theme you could
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: in there aside from, like, saving the rainforest, but it was,
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: you know, government manipulation of things, sending men to Vietnam,
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: you know, Drugs.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Drugs.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: Poisoning the environment.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Poisoning your body with chemicals. Yeah.
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: It's like we've got to put it all in here.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: Just cram it all in. All these issues, you know.
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: And thinking they're making something important when it's, you know.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: And that very much has like that stoner reality to
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: where you can just imagine all of them just sitting
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: around just smoking one joint.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: After the next.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Like, oh, you know what else we should put in there?
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Dude, that's the thing.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: It seems like it's made by kids that are high,
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: so it's so weird that there's these weird heavy messages.
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: It's like he's a monster because of Vietnam.
- 1:04:50Speaker 16: What if we make him a real monster? Let's make
- 1:04:54Speaker 16: him a turkey, a half turkey, because Thanksgiving's where we
- 1:04:58Speaker 16: celebrate America. So if we say, fuck you Thanksgiving, we're
- 1:05:02Speaker 16: saying fuck you America for the war.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Yeah. You're probably pretty accurate on this, by the way.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Pretty close.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: That's pretty good.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: We want to see that movie.
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure the eyes were ping pong balls.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I guess now we might as well start picking apart
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: the head.
- 1:05:21Speaker 11: Big bird head with a Hawaiian lei around the base.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: I almost thought it was like a belt strapped around,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: almost like he was wearing a collar to hold the
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: head on so when he bent over it wouldn't just
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: fall off.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: Was he still wearing that jacket? I can't remember.
- 1:05:37Speaker 8: The one that was too short and he kept pulling
- 1:05:39Speaker 8: it down all the time because he was uncomfortable in it?
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: That one.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: That's because he's beefy. He's beefy. Husky is the word.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: He was beefy.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: Beefy and meat-headed. He played Tarzan?
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: He actually went on to act in something else?
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: This was before.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Yeah, this was beforehand.
- 1:05:56Speaker 11: Well, I thought it was, but I think it was during.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: It was in between. Tarzan sequel. Yeah. He was burned.
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: He came back to do another Tarzan movie, which in
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: this country, they completely omitted the fact that.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: He was Tarzan. They wouldn't refer to him as Tarzan
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: when they released him here. The beak had teeth, but
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: what's the point of the teeth if you can't open
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: up your beak?
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: I don't know. It does say on IMDb that the
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: mask was made of papier-mâché, which it very clearly is.
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: It looked like papier-mâché.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: It didn't resemble a turkey at all.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: No, not so much.
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: I mean, it was kind of like a turkey, but
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: it was like, if you'd never really seen a turkey,
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: if it was like a mile or two away.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: Maybe like an extinct species of turkey that used to
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: roam America.
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: You'd only see experience turkeys through like cartoons or something
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: yeah if they'd remade this like in the mid 80s
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: back when there was this huge boom and prosthetic makeup
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: and practical effects that could actually have been very disgusting
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: and terrifying to make like a half man half turkey
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: turkeys are pretty they're disgusting anyway just looking at them
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: at the beginning there It's the waddle.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: You could make almost like an Alfred Hitchcockian.
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: I mean, Alfred Hitchcock isn't too far off. Just exaggerate
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: the features.
- 1:07:12Speaker 11: His wiki says that he was tied down in a
- 1:07:16Speaker 11: scene and a fire got out of control and he
- 1:07:21Speaker 11: was burned and the lion, the trained.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: Lion, saved him.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:07:26Speaker 11: Because it had been trained to remove his bonds for
- 1:07:30Speaker 11: the scene and And he got him loose. That's why
- 1:07:36Speaker 11: he started his animal sanctuary. He vowed he would pay
- 1:07:39Speaker 11: the lion back.
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: That's pretty awesome. By looking after big cats. And they
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: took it all away.
- 1:07:45Speaker 11: In a turkey mask.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: Because it's the man.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: The government that he tried to take down with this movie.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: It's all coming around now. The man holding him down.
- 1:07:56Speaker 11: His animal sanctuary attracted attention when a Bengal tiger escaped
- 1:08:01Speaker 11: and was killed. in a robbery gone wrong in a
- 1:08:07Speaker 11: liquor store.
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: No.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: The tiger had reefer met.
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:08:13Speaker 11: But he was arrested at his Florida home and his
- 1:08:17Speaker 11: animals confiscated on February 27, 2012 for non-regulatory compliance in
- 1:08:26Speaker 11: regards to animal purpose.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: It's a long span because he got out of movies
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: in like 75. Yeah. So that's a lot of animal
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: taken care of.
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:08:36Speaker 11: I know a friend of mine like down the street
- 1:08:39Speaker 11: this way is zoned so he could have a zoo.
- 1:08:43Speaker 11: He told me that when he bought the house he
- 1:08:45Speaker 11: could have a cemetery, a zoo, and maybe an airport.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: He wasn't sure on that.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: A zoo, maybe. It's harder to get yourself an airport.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: Yeah. Well.
- 1:08:59Speaker 11: my feeling from knowing him for years was that if
- 1:09:02Speaker 11: he could have it eventually, he would have every fucking
- 1:09:04Speaker 11: one of them. He was going to have a zoo cemetery.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Well, yeah. Well, yeah, just have, I mean, what do
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: they do with the animals over at the little zoo
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: when they die?
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: They need a proper area to bury them in a
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: zoo cemetery.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: They feed them to other animals.
- 1:09:21Speaker 11: It's a circle of life.
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: There we go.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: I knew it.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: Circle of life.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: If a zebra died, you'd think they could just use
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: that for the lines.
- 1:09:30Speaker 14: See, you start singing that, and now I'm thinking of
- 1:09:32Speaker 14: that whole thing that blew up at school on Friday.
- 1:09:35Speaker 19: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: How weird.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: What thing happened?
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: It was.
- 1:09:39Speaker 11: You should show the prison video.
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I should. That might be.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: It was... I had some students. They were working in class,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: and they said, well, can you... one of the students said, Mr. Cannon,
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: do you have any Pink Floyd? And I said, yeah,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I've got some.
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: On my computer because I always play music in class.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: And the kid's like, well, good, because so-and-so just hates
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Pink Floyd.
- 1:10:04Speaker 14: And the student says, no, I don't. And I was like, well,
- 1:10:08Speaker 14: why do you hate Pink Floyd? And the student was like,
- 1:10:11Speaker 14: I don't hate Pink Floyd. I just hate the wall.
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: And I was like, well, do you mean the album.
- 1:10:14Speaker 14: Or do you mean like the individual song like Brick
- 1:10:18Speaker 14: in the Wall? And The reply came, well, brick in
- 1:10:20Speaker 14: the wall. I said, well, is it all versions? And
- 1:10:24Speaker 14: students are like, well, no, I just find the one creepy.
- 1:10:27Speaker 14: Are there other versions? I said, well, there's this really
- 1:10:29Speaker 14: funny video online where somebody took the song from Saturday
- 1:10:32Speaker 14: Night Fever.
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: Stayin' Alive, and they interlaced it with brick in the wall.
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: So I said, well, how about I show you this?
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: Lucy's getting scared now.
- 1:10:41Speaker 14: And so I start up the video, and like eight
- 1:10:43Speaker 14: seconds in, the student just bursts into tears.
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: I ran out of the room, and I was like,
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: What just happened?
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: And I went out there and.
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: It's the Gibb brothers, man, are pretty frightening.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: See, that's the whole thing.
- 1:10:56Speaker 14: I thought, what if there's some weird, dark family history
- 1:10:59Speaker 14: behind this song that I was absolutely clueless about? And
- 1:11:02Speaker 14: it turns out that apparently it reminded the student of
- 1:11:07Speaker 14: a dream.
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: It's a great dream. From when she was 10 to where.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: She was out in the field.
- 1:11:15Speaker 14: And the hyenas from The Lion King chased her down
- 1:11:19Speaker 14: and started tearing apart and eating her alive, and they
- 1:11:21Speaker 14: were singing that song while they did it.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: This is horrible.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: Mostly because if I was dying, the last thing I
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: would want is that. I'm so tired of that song
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: from the first time.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: And apparently I reminded the student of that dream, and
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: I said, well, there aren't any hyenas from The Lion
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: King in my classroom, so why don't you just come
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: back in? And as soon as we walk into the doorway,
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: the kids in my class turned around and just said,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: we don't need no education.
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: And she starts crying again. It was just the craziest thing.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: And I started to go out after the student and
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: some other.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: Kid goes, Hey, Kalen, leave that kid alone.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: I was like, stop it.
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: The problem is they picked up on my sense of humor.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Kids are jackasses.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I mean, when I was 11, my cousin Tiffany and
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: I watched The Wall. And then we went camping. She
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: lived in Bowling Green. And the whole weekend, her neighbors
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: had been trying to convince us that there was mountain
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: lions everywhere. So one of them had a tape of, like,
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: wild cats playing while we were asleep. They, like, snuck
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: up and hid that in the trees by us and
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: played this, like, wild cat noises. And then, like, attacked
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: our tent with sticks. And, like, I mean, I can
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: hear the wall, and I'm totally fine with that.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: That was where you went with that story.
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: But I can hear the wall, I mean.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I can watch The Lion King. Yeah, it's cool.
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: I mean, when I think of the wall.
- 1:12:52Speaker 14: what rube goldberg series of events led us to this
- 1:12:55Speaker 14: point it's.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: So much more interesting than the movie it's like we're
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: so desperate not to talk about it it says something about.
- 1:13:05Speaker 11: There's really only so much you can say you quote
- 1:13:08Speaker 11: the couple of crazy lines yeah and you talk about
- 1:13:11Speaker 11: just how yeah how bad the turkey head was and
- 1:13:14Speaker 11: just how ridiculous killings are and it's just after that
- 1:13:17Speaker 11: it's just It's a death march at times.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: On the movie.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: It really is. I like cheesy bad movies.
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: I like cheesy 70s movies. And this one is just.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: It's horrible, but I'm kind of fascinated by it. I'm
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: watching the other... Again, I thought.
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: Fred would have a field day with just the visuals
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: going on in the apartment.
- 1:13:40Speaker 11: It was just such an overload of the 70s.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: All those dead dreams. But that's just looking at the
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: way everybody was and looked in general.
- 1:13:54Speaker 11: And they were all dressed as crazy clowns. There was
- 1:13:58Speaker 11: a period of our history when everybody went around dressed
- 1:14:02Speaker 11: as crazy clowns. And I lived through it.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: I was there.
- 1:14:08Speaker 11: My parents, people we knew, professors of academic subjects. would
- 1:14:15Speaker 11: walk into their class wearing this thing like it was,
- 1:14:20Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I can't get enough paisley in my wardrobe.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: My fourth grade teacher, she wore hideous polyester 70s suits,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: and she had a blue beehive, and she'd always blow
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: her nose and then shove the dirty Kleenex down her pants. Yeah.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: That's not creepy at all.
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: I think it's like, it's like as horrible as this is,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I almost, again, I'm still just kind of fascinated by
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: what it like. I think we need to preserve these.
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: Maybe as a thing to watch to know what not
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: to do when making movies.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I don't know. Hire actual actors.
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: Yeah, like there's so many things wrong with it that
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: I'm like, there's a little bit of it you've got
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: to see. Maybe not the entire run, but you've got
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: to experience some of it.
- 1:15:09Speaker 14: I think the problem for me is the conditions in
- 1:15:11Speaker 14: which I watched it. Watching it in segments on YouTube,
- 1:15:13Speaker 14: I think I would appreciate it a whole lot more
- 1:15:16Speaker 14: if I was just at a relative's house and just
- 1:15:19Speaker 14: bored out of my mind while my parents visited said
- 1:15:22Speaker 14: obscure relative.
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: And so I rummage through a.
- 1:15:25Speaker 14: Box and find a VHS tape that says the word
- 1:15:29Speaker 14: blood freak scrawled across it.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: So I'd just pop it in and watch it.
- 1:15:32Speaker 14: Then I would just be utterly fascinated because it almost
- 1:15:34Speaker 14: feels like a snuff film of Hollywood or something, even
- 1:15:37Speaker 14: though people buy it.
- 1:15:37Speaker 11: Although it's actually a snuff film of a turkey.
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it is a snuff film.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: Those are oddly specific conditions.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: They are specific conditions in which I would enjoy it, yeah.
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: The only narrow window I will ever enjoy this movie.
- 1:15:52Speaker 18: You know, it was.
- 1:15:54Speaker 8: I think it was not until the fourth segment, it
- 1:15:58Speaker 8: broke into six segments, that you finally got someone being killed.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: And for something that should be a horror or a
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: slasher or something like that, it really didn't. took a
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: long time. You should have given me something in the
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: first five scenes.
- 1:16:16Speaker 14: It did almost take an hour to get to both
- 1:16:18Speaker 14: him being a turkey and the killing.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: And that's an awful lot of exposition. Which they don't
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: do very well.
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: And narration.
- 1:16:26Speaker 11: But I liked the narrator. He was trying so hard
- 1:16:30Speaker 11: to appeal to our sense of like stuff. You know,
- 1:16:35Speaker 11: some people are catalysts.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: You never know.
- 1:16:40Speaker 11: When you're going to meet somebody who's a catalyst. And
- 1:16:45Speaker 11: then he does that little expression like, I knew you were.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Going to ask that.
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: I knew you were going to ask that.
- 1:16:50Speaker 11: Well, in this case, a catalyst is someone who leads
- 1:16:55Speaker 11: us to a change. Or it could be somebody who
- 1:16:57Speaker 11: leads us to change. A person who leads us to
- 1:17:01Speaker 11: a catalyst.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Could be.
- 1:17:02Speaker 11: Join somebody who's a catalyst.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Let me get a chalkboard. Lead you to a catalyst.
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: Let me light another cigarette. This is serious shit, people.
- 1:17:13Speaker 11: Because the world we live in is constantly changing.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Think about it.
- 1:17:24Speaker 11: It's just such a blatant appeal trying to Prime us
- 1:17:30Speaker 11: to get into our sense of, like, something's going to happen.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: A story is going to unfold. See, that's what I
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: love about it. Like, there's not much.
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: The story was based on fact and also probability.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: But just watching that, I mean, like, it's another one
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: of those. I watch it and I'm just like, I
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: can't believe this exists. Like, I can't believe... This got
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: made and they showed it to people. Not many, I'm sure.
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: But they showed it somewhere in a drive-in in 1973.
- 1:18:00Speaker 14: That's what I was going for. I think I would
- 1:18:02Speaker 14: just appreciate it if I just stumbled upon it more
- 1:18:05Speaker 14: than even... I mean, I knew Blood Freak about it
- 1:18:07Speaker 14: years prior because I always had friends tell me about it.
- 1:18:10Speaker 14: It's just I never got around to watching it. But
- 1:18:11Speaker 14: I just knew it was bad. I just think If
- 1:18:14Speaker 14: I had stumbled upon it in an old yard sale
- 1:18:16Speaker 14: box or something.
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: What's his name when he made Trash Humpers?
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: Harmony Currents.
- 1:18:21Speaker 11: Yeah, originally just wanted to leave a tape sitting out
- 1:18:24Speaker 11: on the sidewalk somewhere. So somebody labeled masking tape, Trash Humpers.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: So somebody would go.
- 1:18:34Speaker 11: What the hell is that?
- 1:18:37Speaker 14: Damon Packard kind of did something similar with Reflections of Evil.
- 1:18:40Speaker 14: He just sent out a bunch of VHS tapes to
- 1:18:43Speaker 14: rental stores like Wild and Wooly all around the U.S.,
- 1:18:46Speaker 14: just local rental stores. Just send it to them. and
- 1:18:50Speaker 14: that's at least how it got here locally.
- 1:18:51Speaker 11: Well what if you saw it in an unopened vhs
- 1:18:55Speaker 11: tape on a rack at nearly new consignment what then
- 1:19:02Speaker 11: Could that work?
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Under what conditions? Let's make a list.
- 1:19:09Speaker 11: Because there's a video there, unopened. I've had to show
- 1:19:13Speaker 11: it to people a few times. And it's called the
- 1:19:18Speaker 11: deer lounge advantage. And there's a picture of it of
- 1:19:23Speaker 11: a deer hunter. in a deer stand, but it's not
- 1:19:26Speaker 11: just a deer stand. It's like a lounge. It's like
- 1:19:29Speaker 11: kicking back up in a tree in this fabric seat.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I kind of actually want to buy that now. I
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: want to see it.
- 1:19:38Speaker 11: Because how are they going to make a video that's
- 1:19:42Speaker 11: about a deer hunter being more comfortable?
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: While he waits. Well, if anything, it would be just
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: something funny to buy for a prop for whatever. I mean,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: one that I've bought that I've got at home that
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: I've never found the excuse to bust out yet, but
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: I will in the future, is I found it at
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: the Peddler's Mall on Dixie Highway.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Oh, good.
- 1:20:01Speaker 14: And it's a VHS tape that it's like, I can't
- 1:20:05Speaker 14: remember what it's called. It's like Monster Ridders or something.
- 1:20:07Speaker 14: And it's sponsored by Rosie O'Donnell. And it's just this
- 1:20:11Speaker 14: VHS tape that also comes with this special flashlight and
- 1:20:14Speaker 14: a spray to where if you've.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Got a kid that's afraid to go to bed. There's
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: a nightlight.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: I have the nightlight.
- 1:20:20Speaker 14: And if they're afraid to go to bed because there's
- 1:20:22Speaker 14: monsters or something in the closet, you use the spray
- 1:20:25Speaker 14: to get rid of them and you put the nightlight
- 1:20:27Speaker 14: in and you have.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Them watch the video.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Isn't Rosie O'Donnell what children should be?
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: That's what they're afraid of.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: That's why I was afraid to never watch the video.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: But the nightlight's awesome. I never watched the video. I've
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: still got it sealed. I bought it for three bucks.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: That's the type of stuff I just like sitting around.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: You never know.
- 1:20:43Speaker 11: I have and have watched twice The Adventures of Young
- 1:20:47Speaker 11: Moby Dick. It's a musical.
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: Of course it is.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Young Moby Dick.
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: It's from the point of.
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: View of Young Moby Dick. And there's a starfish who
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: for some reason sounds a lot like Mae West. And
- 1:21:06Speaker 11: it's just a video that one of my daughter's friends said, oh,
- 1:21:09Speaker 11: I've got this video of you.
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: That's like Young Moby Dick.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: What's Young Moby Dick?
- 1:21:16Speaker 11: They just took Moby Dick and they talk about when
- 1:21:20Speaker 11: he was a kid, growing up in the ocean and stuff.
- 1:21:25Speaker 8: It's kind of like the Star Wars prequels. You want
- 1:21:27Speaker 8: to know how he became Moby Dick. What caused him to?
- 1:21:31Speaker 8: That was the dramatic question.
- 1:21:32Speaker 14: Actually, there in the way of just VHS tapes, just
- 1:21:35Speaker 14: the Star Wars Christmas special, there's another one to warn
- 1:21:38Speaker 14: us how people like him.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: What the hell is this? Has anyone here made it
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: to the end of that? I watched it entirely.
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: I'm impressed.
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: I watched it in its entirety.
- 1:21:50Speaker 8: I remember it being on.
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: It's so painful. Yeah, I remember it being on and
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: just remembering little bits and pieces. And then when I
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: got the VHS and went back and watched.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: It years later, I was like, oh, my God. Should
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: we challenge ourselves to make that a Christmas special? I
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: can do that, but I don't know if anybody else
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: will make it through. It would give me an excuse
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: to make it to the end on that.
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: I'm all for it. That should be our special Christmas episode.
- 1:22:15Speaker 21: So why did you take him out and dump him?
- 1:22:18Speaker 11: Don't we have enough trouble in these experiments without taking
- 1:22:21Speaker 11: a chance on a murder charge?
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: All we did was give this guy some turkey.
- 1:22:26Speaker 10: But, Mr.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: Nolan, you didn't see him, sir. Who was scared?
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: I don't care.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: He's still a man. The drug could be worn off
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: by now. That is possible, isn't it?
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: Yeah, it could, Mr.
- 1:22:39Speaker 10: Nolan.
- 1:22:41Speaker 11: Honest, sir, I didn't think it could have any effect at.
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: All on a human. You didn't think?
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: You dumb bastards, how could you let something like this happen?
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: I think there's a level to this movie that's like
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: that for me.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: What the hell have I stumbled upon?
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: It's horrible, but it's that part of it that's horrible
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: is what makes me think that. The fact that when
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: they cut from one scene to the other, it's daytime,
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: it's night outside, and he's stumbling around. Why did we
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: just jump ahead in time? Did we not jump ahead
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: in time? There's just no continuity? The multiple times they
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: will jump back and forth during the edits... between one
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: take to the other where it does not match up,
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: and you're just like, what did we just miss there?
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: I think that was an artistic style.
- 1:23:29Speaker 11: No, it wasn't.
- 1:23:29Speaker 8: Because he was dreaming, and, you know, in my dreams,
- 1:23:32Speaker 8: it jumps from day to night all the time.
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: Well, nice try.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I seriously remember thinking that when he wakes up, and
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: it was like, it was all a dream, and I thought,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: that's actually kind of clever, because now anything that didn't
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: make sense.
- 1:23:46Speaker 11: Be it.
- 1:23:47Speaker 14: production-wise or story-wise, it now makes sense.
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: And that's why I was so upset about it.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: And what about all the horrible stuff going on before
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: he eats that turkey and starts.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Twitching on the ground? Doesn't make up for any of that. Well,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Post-traumatic stress disorder. That we had? Yeah.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I think we have it now.
- 1:24:12Speaker 11: That just made me think. I was trying to find.
- 1:24:16Speaker 11: Walton's bloopers because there's one from well I was at
- 1:24:22Speaker 11: the Kentucky book fair and one of the I think
- 1:24:27Speaker 11: it was Mary Ellen was there with a book for
- 1:24:30Speaker 11: some reason but so we were talking about it and
- 1:24:33Speaker 11: there's a Thanksgiving scene on the Walton's where for some
- 1:24:38Speaker 11: reason they have a giant silver soup tureen these poor
- 1:24:42Speaker 11: mountain folk have this elaborate but all the kids are
- 1:24:45Speaker 11: at I think it was a Thanksgiving. They're all sitting
- 1:24:49Speaker 11: at the table, and they're like, we don't have any
- 1:24:52Speaker 11: of this.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: We don't have any dessert or something.
- 1:24:55Speaker 11: And the old granny comes in with this giant tureen
- 1:24:58Speaker 11: and says, you should be thankful you have anything. And
- 1:25:02Speaker 11: she trips and spills it.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: Happy Thanksgiving.
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: So, yeah, I was going to try to find that
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: for my mom. She's like, oh, I'd love to see
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: that again.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: I think that's the only thing to take from this movie. Like, again,
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: if you're watching it for story, you're sad and mistaken.
- 1:25:25Speaker 11: I think they make an effort to make something coherent,
- 1:25:28Speaker 11: and then they go, oh, that didn't work.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Fuck it. It was a dream.
- 1:25:33Speaker 11: So now what do we do?
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: Again, there's nothing else to it. Like, the horror is terrible.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: The acting is terrible. There's no writing to speak of
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: except that wonderful narrator.
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: So other than that, it's like the only thing you
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: can take from it is the sheer absurdity that it exists.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: Actually, I don't know. Now that I look back at it.
- 1:25:49Speaker 11: That exists and deep fried bourbon balls don't.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: See, figure that out. Make sense of that.
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: Figure it out. I think I now know how to
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: look at it. And this is not a joke or anything.
- 1:25:58Speaker 14: It's like, what if, I mean, you always hear like,
- 1:26:01Speaker 14: you know, if you really tie one on at a
- 1:26:03Speaker 14: party and somebody tells you what you did or what
- 1:26:06Speaker 14: happened and you're trying to remember back and you remember
- 1:26:08Speaker 14: it in fragments, you're like, yeah, that sort of makes sense.
- 1:26:10Speaker 14: I sort of remember that. It almost makes sense if
- 1:26:14Speaker 14: you look at it as if the entire film is
- 1:26:16Speaker 14: a social commentary on, we were on drugs.
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: Look at what happened. This is why you shouldn't do drugs.
- 1:26:23Speaker 11: Think about it.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: It almost works in that sort of meta way.
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: Whether or not it was meant to be a commentary,
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: it certainly works that way.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Because I feel like maybe they're at the premiere and
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: it's like, oh shit, I kind of remember this.
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: We did this?
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: You guys were. Yes, we did.
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: You weren't filming that.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: Look at that. There it is. I'll be damned.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: Dude, I was just fucking around in that mask. You
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: weren't supposed to tape it.
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: Jesus.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: That wasn't really part of the story. It's a dream
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: or something? Oh, it's a dream.
- 1:26:59Speaker 10: All right.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: It's a dream.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: That's cool.
- 1:27:00Speaker 14: Like, every single sequence, it cuts right before they just
- 1:27:03Speaker 14: all start laughing.
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: Inanely, you know, for about 10 minutes.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:09Speaker 8: One thing i i've got a chuckle at is when
- 1:27:11Speaker 8: he she um the drug dealer brings over um since
- 1:27:16Speaker 8: he's hooked um they're so worried about being hooked in
- 1:27:20Speaker 8: this movie and uh right before he you know gets
- 1:27:23Speaker 8: mad at him for supply and needing to be his
- 1:27:26Speaker 8: supplier she's trying to light the joint he's like trying
- 1:27:30Speaker 8: to drag off of it and trying and trying and
- 1:27:31Speaker 8: trying and she can't get it lit and it's like
- 1:27:34Speaker 8: I swear it's like five minutes that she just can't
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: get that thing lit.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: And he keeps twitching around. She's like, hold still. God.
- 1:27:41Speaker 8: And, you know, she almost breaks character, you know, there
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: for a second. Like, quit it. I can't get this
- 1:27:47Speaker 8: thing lit.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: Look, really, stop. I don't care if you're the director
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: or not.
- 1:27:51Speaker 14: I mean, my favorite long take is near the end.
- 1:27:53Speaker 14: The fellow who's the amputee when he first shows up
- 1:27:56Speaker 14: to do the drug exchange.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: He just sits down on the couch. The other fellow
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: goes into the kitchen. And the camera's just lingering on him,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: and it's not even in focus. It starts to zoom out,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: and it starts to go back in. And I feel
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: like at that point they're.
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: Like, should we cut?
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Should we keep going?
- 1:28:13Speaker 14: And it just sits there while the fellow in the
- 1:28:14Speaker 14: kitchen's talking, and the guy's just sitting there just looking around.
- 1:28:17Speaker 14: Like when you go over to a friend's house, like
- 1:28:19Speaker 14: you're getting ready to go out or something.
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: And it's like, oh, I've got to get ready. Just
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: hang here for a minute.
- 1:28:24Speaker 7: It's like, okay, it's that.
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: It's that awkward sitting.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: It's uncomfortable.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: It's like.
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: I like the scene before that with him when you
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: see him at his place, and it's like he's making
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: his brown bag lunch for the.
- 1:28:35Speaker 11: Day of drugs.
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: He's like, I need a little to go cup of
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: coke and a couple of these joints and a juice
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: box alright I'm all set he's just brown bagging up
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: some sort of drugs I don't know if this is
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: his operation I.
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: Like that it all operates out of brown bags All
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: I could think, though, is as he's just throwing those
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: joints out, I was thinking, those are going to get decimated.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: It's like, that's a waste.
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: You speak from experience. You never put the juice box
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: in last.
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: No, you don't want to smash the joints.
- 1:28:59Speaker 11: And you don't carry a bag under your white t-shirt,
- 1:29:03Speaker 11: so it looks like you have a big colostomy.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: Bag or something.
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: That's why you wore... The big bell bottoms.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: You stuff it down in your sock and nobody can tell. Again,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: speaks from experience. I did have a memory, though, because
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: when she was opening up the.
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: Oh, here it is.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:29:22Speaker 7: Go on.
- 1:29:24Speaker 8: When she was opening up her band-aid box, the little
- 1:29:28Speaker 8: tin band-aid box of joints.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I used to keep, like, you know, stormtroopers and stuff inside. Yeah, like,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: let it rip with the gun so they don't get lost. Perfect,
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:29:38Speaker 8: And or I used to keep my dice from my
- 1:29:40Speaker 8: Dungeons and Dragons set in the little metal.
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: This is the alternate version. There were like the cool
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: kids who kept their drugs there. And then you were
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: keeping dice in there. I was keeping Stark.
- 1:29:50Speaker 14: I thought you were working up to a story to
- 1:29:52Speaker 14: where like, you know, you had an older brother or something.
- 1:29:54Speaker 14: And then when he walks in, you've like put the
- 1:29:56Speaker 14: joints in the hands of the stormtroopers.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: They actually slid out of the lightsaber slot. There we go.
- 1:30:05Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: No, I was never that cool. But it gave me
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: that memory of, oh yeah, they did used to come
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: in those little tin boxes like that. Now it's a
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: cheesy little cardboard box.
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: You can't keep drugs in there.
- 1:30:18Speaker 14: Because there's a war, and we've got to help defeat
- 1:30:21Speaker 14: the Nazis by saving all that metal.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Conserve the metal.
- 1:30:25Speaker 19: Oh, Lord.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Is there anything else?
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: Again, it's the absurdity of the thing is the only
- 1:30:32Speaker 5: thing that carried me through that.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: It's pretty.
- 1:30:35Speaker 14: Yeah, because had it not been, I mean, imagine if
- 1:30:37Speaker 14: it had not been for the turkey head drinking the blood,
- 1:30:40Speaker 14: how slow and intolerant this would be.
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: If it was just the message movie about drugs, if
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: it was just Reefer Madness and they didn't have the
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: turkey head, yeah, I mean, if it wasn't the narrator
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: and the turkey head, it wouldn't get you through because
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: those two things are, you know, you just sit there
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: the whole time entertained by the fact that they're on screen.
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: But the acting leaves.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: A lot to be desired.
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: It was pretty amazing.
- 1:31:06Speaker 14: I did like the Bunsen and Beaker two lab men.
- 1:31:10Speaker 14: Any scene they're in, I love them. Well, that or
- 1:31:13Speaker 14: the old man.
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: The dad, that first scene he's in where he calls
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: him Husky, he also totally forgets a line. He gets
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: midway in and stops and is like, Danny! And just
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: rambles off in some other direction. Again, no take two there.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: Just keep rolling.
- 1:31:30Speaker 11: They bring him out the big turkey in the the
- 1:31:34Speaker 11: foil wrap thing and the sound quality is so bad
- 1:31:38Speaker 11: but you can hear him sort of with this this
- 1:31:42Speaker 11: hum going on you you hear uh him say i
- 1:31:46Speaker 11: hope you have a good appetite i have to split
- 1:31:49Speaker 11: now i've got some work to do in the lab
- 1:31:54Speaker 11: and then he sits down to this whole turkey With
- 1:31:59Speaker 11: turkeys clucking around.
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: I like that they feed him in the middle of turkeys,
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: and they feed him outside like an animal, which he
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: kind of seems like an animal.
- 1:32:07Speaker 14: In the way of hearing odd stuff, I remember hearing
- 1:32:10Speaker 14: when he's threatening the drug dealer, and it wasn't until
- 1:32:13Speaker 14: later I looked on IMDB, I realized what I'd heard
- 1:32:15Speaker 14: was apparently a director's command, because after he is choking
- 1:32:20Speaker 14: the drug dealer, and he lets go of him, you
- 1:32:22Speaker 14: hear something, and I was like, what did they say?
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: And apparently it was the director saying, Just like whispering
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: at him and it's still on. Oh yeah.
- 1:32:32Speaker 11: Early on when he's just sort of like meeting up
- 1:32:34Speaker 11: with the druggie sister, you hear the chair squeak like
- 1:32:38Speaker 11: it does in the porn sequences in Boogie Nights when
- 1:32:42Speaker 11: they're filming the porn and you hear the chairs and
- 1:32:46Speaker 11: everything is just awkward and done as poorly as a
- 1:32:50Speaker 11: film could be done.
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: And this is all real is the sad part.
- 1:32:54Speaker 11: Yeah, like when he gets up out of the leather
- 1:32:56Speaker 11: chair he kind of sticks to it. Like, Separate with
- 1:33:00Speaker 11: a thwack.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Once again, everything in the 70s was sticky. Yeah.
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: And as he plays his game of wits and ego,
- 1:33:10Speaker 6: his comments could be what caused the chain of events
- 1:33:14Speaker 6: and the moments of horror and agony that were far
- 1:33:21Speaker 6: greater than his experiences in the hell of Vietnam.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Anything else to do with this thing?
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: Well, I don't know. I don't know, Brian.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: I think we should escape. Well, okay. Probably that's for
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: the best.
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: It's best for God.
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: Because it did remind me of a friend of mine.
- 1:33:38Speaker 11: Said she regretted clicking on this link to vaginal plastic surgery.
- 1:33:47Speaker 11: And she said, this exists? This exists. Are there people
- 1:33:52Speaker 11: who are like, Oh, that's not pretty enough. So they've
- 1:33:57Speaker 11: got to go. And immediately I thought, holy fuck, I
- 1:34:02Speaker 11: do know of one case where, yeah, a guy dumped
- 1:34:09Speaker 11: a woman because he didn't like the junk. He put
- 1:34:15Speaker 11: him off.
- 1:34:16Speaker 24: And it was because it had this little, like, extra
- 1:34:20Speaker 24: bit kind of like what we named it a waddle
- 1:34:24Speaker 24: there was this like little extra stuff and it bothered
- 1:34:28Speaker 24: him because he was familiar with it from.
- 1:34:30Speaker 11: Porn as we all are and so he thought it
- 1:34:35Speaker 11: was a result of porn like activity and he just
- 1:34:39Speaker 11: thought the woman was a little too wild for.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Him these are things to be concerned about i.
- 1:34:44Speaker 11: Suppose because of the waddle thing and so It's just
- 1:34:49Speaker 11: odd to me because we're talking about this exists and
- 1:34:52Speaker 11: how bizarre it is that this exists. And it reminded
- 1:34:55Speaker 11: me that, oh, my friend said, there's plastic surgery for vaginas.
- 1:35:00Speaker 11: There's labial reconstruction. And then she said, why? Are there
- 1:35:05Speaker 11: people who are going, that's not pretty enough? And I thought, yes.
- 1:35:10Speaker 11: In fact, there is one case where I do know
- 1:35:14Speaker 11: somebody had an objection.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: So there is a need for everything, is what you're saying.
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: This movie needs to exist for some reason.
- 1:35:21Speaker 14: See, I'm glad I brought the camera so I could
- 1:35:23Speaker 14: document Lucy's expressions during all of that.
- 1:35:25Speaker 11: Do you ever think about this fantastic order of things?
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: No.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: How far does it go?
- 1:35:32Speaker 11: How far does it go?
- 1:35:33Speaker 14: It's almost like you're getting ready to start off with
- 1:35:35Speaker 14: the Jeff Goldblum from Jurassic Park thing.
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: It's like, you know.
- 1:35:38Speaker 14: God creates man, man destroys God, man creates blood freak.
- 1:35:42Speaker 11: I'm just saying nature finds a way to create.
- 1:35:47Speaker 14: Well, if we're also going to quote that movie, I'll
- 1:35:50Speaker 14: quote the line, just because you could doesn't mean that
- 1:35:54Speaker 14: you should.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: You might be on to something there.
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: All right, I think we should get the hell out
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: and go have seconds on some turkey here.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: Or Turkzilla. Bride of Turkzilla. So thank you to everyone
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: who made food here. Bride of Turkzilla. Is this one
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: a bride, too, or is it just the first generation?
- 1:36:16Speaker 12: It's like a compassionate aunt.
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: The compassionate aunt of Turkzilla. Of Turkzilla? Or of the
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: bride of Turkzilla. She always has a fashionable handbag.
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: I thought maybe she was just like a sidekick, kind
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: of a friend to the Turkzilla bride.
- 1:36:31Speaker 11: She has 270 hats in her barn, and she wears
- 1:36:35Speaker 11: a different.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: One every day. Maybe she's like... The maid of honor.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: I think they live together.
- 1:36:42Speaker 8: They live together, but we never mention that they may
- 1:36:44Speaker 8: be a couple.
- 1:36:46Speaker 14: Her favorite show is Newhart, but she hates the Bob
- 1:36:49Speaker 14: Newhart show with a passion.
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: She doesn't understand why. Interesting.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: One more reason to get the.
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: Hell out of here.
- 1:36:58Speaker 11: Which one of those turned out to.
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: Be a dream?
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Actually, the second Newhart show when he had the golf
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: course or whatever it was. He had the hotel or
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: the Larry, Daryl, and Daryl Newhart show. That was Newhart.
- 1:37:14Speaker 11: That was Newhart.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it was by the, that's right. Never mind, I'm
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: thinking of the final episode where they move the golf
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: course in next to it and that's what.
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: That's right.
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: Why don't they really, they don't do that so much anymore.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: You know, like the Lucy, you know, there was I
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: Love Lucy and then They kept giving her a different
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: show after that show would expire.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: They don't really do that.
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: They do that. I mean, look at how many times
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: George Costanza's had a show. Yeah, and same with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Yeah,
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: I guess so.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Everybody, they kept giving them shows.
- 1:37:43Speaker 14: You just got me thinking, how many series ended with
- 1:37:45Speaker 14: a dream because Full House ended with a dream?
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: Did it?
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: I think the New Harbor's the first.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: Roseanne was like, it was not a dream. She was
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: writing it all. It was like a book.
- 1:37:55Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:37:56Speaker 8: Dallas was like season 5 Dallas was first Dallas was
- 1:38:02Speaker 8: the one that I think Newhart was then making.
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: Fun of yeah I don't know how any of this
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: has to do with turkeys I.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: Don't think I ever watched the last episode of.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: Full House I just want to see this Walton scene
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: oh no never mind I take that back no Full
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: House that's right Michelle, she got amnesia.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: And they had flashbacks to all the previous episodes to
- 1:38:22Speaker 5: remind her of who she was. That's just a flashback episode.
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Like the final episode of Seinfeld, yeah. that's a cop-out too.
- 1:38:31Speaker 8: Which is still one of the best episodes. If you're
- 1:38:34Speaker 8: going to do a clip show, Seinfeld is a good one. Alright,
- 1:38:37Speaker 8: are we done with this mess? Yeah, we're getting ready
- 1:38:39Speaker 8: to get distracted. Go start the leftovers action here.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: We'll send some leftovers to any viewer who makes it
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: through Bloodthirsty. Or freak. That's for another episode.
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: We do have Blood Freak here from Monster Dog. That's
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: the closest thing I could come up with. I want
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: a Blood Freak action figure.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Where you can put the mask on and off.
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: I would follow that.
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: What's funny is the head, the bad paper mache head,
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: kind of looks like the Alec Baldwin head in Beetlejuice.
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: Think about it.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: It's pretty close.
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: It's kind of a mix of both of them, maybe.
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: It really looks a little more like an emu, doesn't it?
- 1:39:22Speaker 11: Except if it had his actual haircut on top, then
- 1:39:25Speaker 11: it would really look like an emu.
- 1:39:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:39:27Speaker 11: Because he kind of had an emu hairdo.
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: Emus are terrifying. On that note.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: Same geek time, same geek feed.
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: Thanks for listening.
- 1:39:40Speaker 15: Tonight won't be Feel the.
- 1:39:44Speaker 17: Hunger I need media Yeah, give us love.
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: And give us each hell.
- 1:40:13Speaker 15: Back from my coffin, I'm on the prowl. I'm lost,
- 1:40:22Speaker 15: I'm lost in the witching hour. Tonight we come on
- 1:40:30Speaker 15: the green for Halloween. Fear Feel the hunger.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: Pull that ride, baby. Come on, yeah. All right.
- 1:41:56Speaker 11: I'm saddened that we're not eating turkey to the sounds.
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: Of fucking turkeys.
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: Kind of turn back on the movie.
- 1:42:13Speaker 7: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
