- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. Hey, and
- 0:05you're listening to TikTok Radio. Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio.
- 0:11I'm Andy Taylor, I'm I'm Matt Jones, and I'm Justin Leme. Welcome.
- 0:16Good to have you all here. I know that Sean had a great
- 0:20question for you, justin Justin, why were you driving your Tesla wearing a
- 0:23vision pro? Oh wow, okay, First off, I would never be
- 0:30caught dead wearing a vision prou. Second off, it's not my test that's
- 0:34my wife's tesla, so haha, jokes on you. So if you if
- 0:38people haven't seen the news this week, right the Apple vision Pro, there
- 0:42are videos of people driving their self driving Tesla's on the freeway while engaging with
- 0:48the vision pro. So it's it's I'm not shocked that it has to be
- 0:56said. We don't be that person, Like, come on, we asked
- 0:59you. Humanity hit our peak in like the year nineteen ninety five. At
- 1:03this point, it's just all downhill from here. In the nineties, Bill
- 1:07Ingvall, who got really famous during the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, the original
- 1:14bit was here's your sign, and he was like I think we should just
- 1:17take all the warning signs off all the products and let humanity sort itself out.
- 1:22And when I was a kid, I was like, Brah, that's
- 1:23terrible. As an adult, I'm like, let's go, let's do it.
- 1:27Yeah, yeah, I am here for it. I believe in it.
- 1:30Like wearing a Vision Pro while in a car on a freeway and they're
- 1:37like, oh, it's a self driving part. Yeah, well, how
- 1:38many car crashes have we seen on YouTube? That is Darwinism by choice in
- 1:47action? And we're gonna see a Darwin Award of Well. Phil was on
- 1:51his Vision Pro during his drive from LA to Seattle with his self driving Tesla
- 1:56and plowed straight into the back of a semi. This Vision Pro is it's
- 2:00it's interesting. Maybe once a millennia they come out with an actual innovative product,
- 2:06and this is not actually one of them. I mean they've literally gone
- 2:09dude, They've literally pitybacked off of Meta and and and HTC and all the
- 2:15other makers of all these headsets that have been out for let's say what ten
- 2:20fifteen years. It does easy, it does something a little different than the
- 2:23Meta. But to justify six ninety nine versus thirty nine to ninety nine or
- 2:29whatever the heck this costume. I haven't tried it. I haven't put a
- 2:31pair on yet, so it's it's unfair for me to number one jump into
- 2:37their corner or go on the opposite side. Matt, you said you saw
- 2:40something earlier, right, Well, disclosure. As we've just discussed, before
- 2:45I worked for Apple, there was a time I was so deep into that
- 2:49tech ecosystem that coming out of it was a nightmare. I have wanted to
- 2:53hate. I've wanted to hate this product, like since it was announced.
- 2:58And then this dude post stood a video to Reddit and he was like,
- 3:00for everyone hating on this, like, I'm not this isn't an ad,
- 3:05I'm just showing you how I use it in my day to day and he
- 3:07pumped out his output. So, sitting at his little tiny desk, he's
- 3:13got these three massive spatial monitors, and then he turns to the right and
- 3:19where there's this huge blank wall. He's got like one hundred and twenty inch
- 3:23you know, simulated TV screen over by his stove. He's got a YouTube
- 3:28cooking video going floating above the stove while he's got dinner going. And I'm
- 3:32just looking at this and I'm like, I want to hate this so flippin'
- 3:37much. And then I saw that video and I was like, ah,
- 3:40dag nab it, I really want that. I was like, ah ah,
- 3:46there's a dirty taste in my mouth. Yeah, because I was out
- 3:51visiting my parents a couple weeks back and my mom got my dad the Medaquest
- 3:54three for a surprise Christmas call. So I was helping set that up,
- 4:00and I was using like the augmented reality that the vision uses for the spatial
- 4:06computing and everything, and the difference between the output. This guy showed the
- 4:11absolute like clarity of all the other stuff that was going on around you versus
- 4:15the Quest three. It wasn't even it. It's it's not even a contest.
- 4:19You're talking about the pass through, right, yeah, the paths through?
- 4:23Wow? Thank you Sean. That's right. Yeah, the Oculus really
- 4:27does not do good pass through. No, the pass through it was it's
- 4:30like comparing an old CRT TV with rabbit ears to like a Sony O lead
- 4:38screen like and and I've got the Quest too, so mine like is black
- 4:43and white and super fuzzy the three. You know, Yeah, the past
- 4:47through is better there's better. There's actually color, which, hey, that's
- 4:51nice, and things were a bit sharper. But then you look at you
- 4:56know, what Apple's put out, and it's just crystal clear, and it's
- 4:59like you're looking through a pair of sunglasses, right, It's just slightly smoked
- 5:01glass. And I was just like, I hate how much I want that,
- 5:04but not enough to buy the other Mac products that I would need.
- 5:10Now I'm wondering about that. Okay, so you get the vision, you
- 5:14get the the this do you have to have a Mac or or an iPad
- 5:19to be able to use this? I saw some dude walking through the streets,
- 5:25like in a crosswalk, wearing these with the cable going to the iPhone
- 5:30in his pocket. Dude stops in the middle of the cross just like reaches
- 5:34up and like opens up a screen like this, And I was like,
- 5:36well, bro, hold on, I don't know. I don't think it's
- 5:41connected to his iPhone. I've heard that it's connected to an external battery pack.
- 5:46Because the the vision pro itself, all of that space that's in it
- 5:50is all of the computing power, they didn't have a place to put the
- 5:55battery, so they had to tether it to like a backpack in your pocket.
- 6:00So I think that you can use this without any other Apple products.
- 6:06It can't be used as a standalone. It has its own standalone mptwo process
- 6:11are built in, so you can't use it. So likely what you saw,
- 6:13I mean he might have had a phone also, but he likely had
- 6:15the battery pack, which is a tethered piece. Because it's bequre, it's
- 6:18quite a bit of power. That makes more sense. But also I'd like
- 6:23to circle back to that one thing of him using it in the middle of
- 6:26a crosswalk. Yeah, oh yeah, I saw that. You know.
- 6:30He's like, he's like going like this as he stops for a second,
- 6:32thinks about it, keeps walking like that. I'm like, you are going
- 6:36to get turned into a pancake. You know. It's like the It's like
- 6:40the epidemic that happened when people got their phones. We're texting all times,
- 6:43just staring at their phones. Now, it's just they could be looking up.
- 6:46You know, they might not be looking down at their phone, but
- 6:47they're not going to be looking at their surroundings. To be looking at whatever
- 6:50vr environment they're in the other one, think about this, Remember when Pokemon
- 6:55became the big thing. People were pom Go Pokemon Go. People were walking
- 7:00into people's backyards. They were just not not respecting anybody's you know, space,
- 7:05just to go after these creatures on their phone. It was huge because
- 7:10people forgot their common sense. People forgot their common sense. But it was
- 7:14the last time that the entire population was happy. Yeah, well, so,
- 7:19so here's the Lenny story. You mentioned that, right, because you
- 7:21mentioned like justice, like the downfall of humanity was in their nineties. There
- 7:26are a lot of stories and conspiracies if you want to say that, say
- 7:30twenty sixteen was the last time that the populate, the world population was truly
- 7:34happy, and then from there it was just a downcline decline. Wow,
- 7:41kind of makes you wonder, huh. But now could vision be bringing it
- 7:44back? Well, okay, so I gotta I gotta give a shout out
- 7:46real quick once again to the Simpsons. Like I'm talking about the cartoon TV
- 7:53show that's been on Fox for what the past forty years, thirty eight years
- 7:58something like that. They predicted the Apple's vision pro eight years ago, just
- 8:03like they've predicted a lot of other things. People always tie it in and
- 8:07say, well the Simpsons did it first, maybe Apples stealing from the Simpsons,
- 8:11because there is a very convincing clip on The Simpsons that looks exactly like
- 8:18half of these videos that Sean and Matt are talking about where people are doing
- 8:22stupid things with their vision pros, which is probably the search that you would
- 8:30type into YouTube to see some of these, right, people doing stupid things
- 8:33with vision pro. But just look up the Simpsons Apple vision Pro. Look
- 8:37up that Simpsons Apple vision Pro. You'll see the video. Time dot Com
- 8:41has a list of all of the things that the Simpsons have predicted back starting
- 8:45in nineteen eighty five that have come true. Yes, isn't there like a
- 8:50conspiracy theory that the writer of the Simpson the writer's group of the Simpsons just
- 8:54like came back in time and that's why they're able to prop Yeah, I've
- 8:58actually heard, yes, I've heard that. I've heard that, Yes,
- 9:01that they are actually time traveler. Wow, imagine that all right now,
- 9:05just think about this though, the possibilities and I know this is weird and
- 9:09this is so big brother utopian society. But with the vision pro technology,
- 9:15somebody gets a one bedroom apartment, you know, they can't afford much they
- 9:20you know, your base on your furniture is going to be cheap. Blah
- 9:22blah blah. You get the Vision Pro, you move into your new paid
- 9:26it's fully decorated, You've got that big TV you want, You've got all
- 9:30of the furniture that you you would want to use around the house, artwork
- 9:35on the wall, all because you're wearing the vision Pro headset. Could that
- 9:37be the future? There was there was a book about this. It was
- 9:41called Ready Player One. I just watched that movie again because it just came
- 9:45back on that book yesterday. It was one of my favorite books. The
- 9:46second book was a mediocre, but it just shows a dystopia society in the
- 9:52you know, the twenty one hundreds. Actually, the very first sentence in
- 9:54the book was my story takes place in Oklahoma City and twenty two, twenty
- 10:00twenty three. That was that was last year. Yeah, well that was
- 10:03the first line of the book. As soon as I heard that, I
- 10:05was like, Okay, I'm gonna listen to the rest of this book because
- 10:09this is hitting pretty close to home. Well, I'm wondering now, Justin
- 10:13and I want to get too far off for the Vision Pro. Do you
- 10:18have an Apple store near you? Downtown somewhere. Both both you and Matt
- 10:22could take a trip and try these on and see what you think about it.
- 10:26Would you do it? Nope, you have no desire. I would
- 10:30not be caught dead in an Apple store. I'm sorry. No, really,
- 10:33what if if no Matt buys one, then I'll go over to his
- 10:35house and try it. I'll go back. It's fine, I'll do it.
- 10:41You'll do it, you'll buy one. I mean I'm gonna buy one.
- 10:45My wife would take it and beat me to death with it. No
- 10:48quite a bit of money. Yeah, there's two that are easy drive for
- 10:52me. So I'll go try and go check one out this weekend, assuming
- 10:56we don't get slapped with a snowstorm like we did last weekend. Right,
- 11:00and then it's super Bowl weekend. You imagine having these Super Bowl weekend being
- 11:03able to watch it. Now, you're not gonna be able to watch all
- 11:07content with these already embedded into them. I know that is it. Netflix
- 11:11is not going to be a part of it. I believe that they're they're
- 11:15the ones saying that they weren't. But there's gonna be other choices that will
- 11:18be Like, there's gonna be lots of apps, so you want to play
- 11:22a game or you want to obviously Apple Store is going to be the huge
- 11:26one. Yeah, you'll be able to access some of this stuff within the
- 11:30Vision pro Again, if we have we actually have an Apple store near us
- 11:33Law on Cantata, you could go in there, I guess and try these.
- 11:37I don't know if the Apple store is at best Buy, because you
- 11:41know, you have the store within a store, if they're going to be
- 11:43doing it, Match shaking his head, No, you don't think so.
- 11:46That's that's a completely separate division than the Apple retail stores. I also worked
- 11:54at best Buy that had an Apple store, and that they're a completely different
- 11:58division than those two. And they you usually don't have a lot of the
- 12:03super fancy, you know, brand new bell and whistle stuff like that,
- 12:07because they want to sell it primarily in the Apple stores. First they give
- 12:09you the Apple experience. They want to give you that in store experience first,
- 12:15and then later it'll get farmed out to best Buy to sell if you
- 12:18don't mind. I you know, we're talking about the future here, right
- 12:20and I you know, we're all talking about Apple TV or this Apple Vision
- 12:24pros and the Apple TV, Apple Vision pro and yes, it definitely ties
- 12:28into that kind of that ready Player one aspect. I get that. But
- 12:33another story that was kind of going around was that as of was it last
- 12:37week? I think it was what is the name of the company even but
- 12:39the neuralink? Is it the Neuralink company? Yeah, that's yeah, Neuralink,
- 12:45Yeah, yeah, exactly one of the Elon musk did. They implanted
- 12:48the first brain computer chip into a human's brain and the person is doing Okay.
- 12:56So this is going to be interesting because you know, I was reading
- 12:58about this earlier and they were saying that, you know, as of right
- 13:01now, they did a big, huge survey and they set around eight percent
- 13:05of the people would be willing to do a neural implant. And they're thinking
- 13:13that if this goes successful, twenty thirty years from now, we're going to
- 13:18look back and say, wow, only eight percent of people actually wanted this.
- 13:22This is amazing. Now I'm gonna ask you guys, each one of
- 13:24you, would you, guys do a neural implant ill it allowed you to
- 13:30do things like speak any language you wanted on demand, basically understand any type
- 13:35of topic you want. I mean, obviously, I'm sure these these would
- 13:39all come at a potential price point. But to understand any topic or to
- 13:43cure a physical or a mental disease, would any any of you get an
- 13:48implant? No. No, can't give you a straight yes or no on
- 13:54that, because I mean it's I hate to be like, they're both sides.
- 14:00But there are definite benefits, but I also have serious concerns. So
- 14:07would I be an early adopter to it? No, I would tell me,
- 14:11tell me that the dude is doing fine after the first firm More update.
- 14:15Let's see how he's doing after the first Fermore update. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:18yeah, no, his brain. Yeah, it's like every other piece
- 14:20of technology. You always wait for the other people to figure out the problems
- 14:24first before you dial in. Yeah. No, I I used to be
- 14:26an early adopter for stuff in like if if somebody, oh, I learned
- 14:33my lesson the hard way. But if somebody is like, I'm gonna put
- 14:35this chip in your brain and it's gonna help regulate your ADHD, it's gonna
- 14:39help take care of your chronic low neurotransmitters, and your depression and anxiety are
- 14:46going to be gone, that is a huge selling point. But I also
- 14:54like, your your brain is in terms of like marketing is the final frontier.
- 15:00It is the last truly safe place you've got to be with your own
- 15:05thoughts, do your own thing. And now you're putting a potential gateway to
- 15:09get into that. So yes and no. I've also played a lot of
- 15:13Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven, and I've seen just what you can do with malicious
- 15:18intent to somebody with a neural implant. I did it to them. It
- 15:22didn't end well for them. No, I get what you're saying. Cyberpunk
- 15:24twenty seventy seven video game. That's that's an interesting way you're putting it.
- 15:30Now. However, let me ask you. If you were a person who
- 15:33was born with a spinal injury and you've never been able to walk, You've
- 15:39been in a wheelchair your whole life. If they came to you and said
- 15:43we can cure this nervous you know, this nervous system disorder, and we
- 15:50can have you can walk again, you you wouldn't do it. I mean,
- 15:56that's it's more for Andy and Sean. Really, I was like,
- 15:58that's a completely different I could ask. I could ask one of my best
- 16:03friends who was born with super Bowls You can't walk, right, I should
- 16:07ask him that, right, would you do this? I don't know what
- 16:08he would say, right, because he's lived so long and he wouldn't even
- 16:12say he's disabled. He just has a different ability, right, because he
- 16:18treats it this is this hit, this is it. This is who he
- 16:19is and how he how he is, And I don't know if he would
- 16:23do it. I don't know. I tell you if if you want to
- 16:29talk to your buddy, and we can circle back on this next week.
- 16:33If you want to talk to your buddy. My my sister is legally blind
- 16:36and her her vision issue is a sort of neurological disorder that causes her to
- 16:45have no control over the buying motor control of your eyes. It's called congenital
- 16:49motoris stagnus. So like when your eyes do that random bouncy thing, imagine
- 16:53that always and forever. Right, So if you want to talk to your
- 16:57buddy, I'll call and talk to my sister and we can circle back next
- 17:00week. And that'd just be a good external viewpoint. And yeah, like
- 17:06you said, it's how are we supposed to frase it? Now? They're
- 17:07not disabled, they're just differently al Yeah, yes, yeah, No,
- 17:11I get that. Yeah, absolutely, I agree with that. But Andy,
- 17:14you were just kind of mentioning. You said something like it was it's
- 17:17just too vague or something for you, or you still wouldn't your question is
- 17:21vague. I don't think it's fair to ask because I'm not facing that,
- 17:25and I think that that is something that somebody who is facing that could seriously
- 17:30answer that. Me myself, I'm not facing that, so right now that's
- 17:36hard. Yeah, it's not fair to ask that question of you. No,
- 17:37I get ye, and I'm glad that that's why maybe Sean and Matt
- 17:41might reach out to you know, their their friends and family and find out,
- 17:45you know, see what they would say. But I think as a
- 17:47person myself, I would I don't know. I just I'm interested in it.
- 17:52I'm I'm interested because although I'm not facing any type of you know,
- 17:56uh, health issues, uh you know, knock on wood or whatever here.
- 18:02But my wife is Japanese, right, she speaks Japanese. I don't
- 18:06speak Japanese. And I always said if I had the ability to do,
- 18:08before I ever heard about this neuralink thing, my thought was going back to,
- 18:14what's the move? Oh my gosh, maybe so long and thanks for
- 18:18all The Fishiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Yeah, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
- 18:22where he puts the little alien in his ear and all of a sudden he
- 18:25can understand Yeah yeah, the Battlefish where he can understand any language. Right.
- 18:30I thought, Oh my god, if I could do that, I
- 18:32could, If I could just like have something put in my brain that I
- 18:36could instantly understand Japanese and be able to speak with her family and her friends
- 18:41and well and her in that language. I think that would be so cool.
- 18:45Now. I know that's not exactly what the neuralink is designed for.
- 18:48It's it currently is designed for health benefits. But eventually, if you could
- 18:52do that, and you could just be like, you know what, I'm
- 18:55gonna pay ten thousand dollars, bam, here you go, and now I'm
- 18:59a native and eat speaker. Bam. I'm just excited to know that.
- 19:03Now I know where Babelfish comes from. Where the term? Yeah yeah yeah.
- 19:07The company that did never software Battlefish. Yeah yeah, all right,
- 19:12we do have a listener questions, so let's get to one of these before
- 19:15we have to go to break. This is from Loretta in Green Valley said,
- 19:21it's about time to replace my printer. Actually, it died a few
- 19:23months ago, and I've been asking my neighbor to print things when I need
- 19:27them. I told him I needed to get one. He was telling me
- 19:30to get an EPs and tankless printer that does color and saves money. My
- 19:33kids are all grown up. I don't print in color. Do I really
- 19:37need to do that? What are your thoughts on the type of printer I
- 19:40should absolutely not just the one that I've got that's been great and it was
- 19:45like a hundred bucks. Is it's just a simple brother black and white laser
- 19:51printer. Yes, it's like the size of two bread boxes, which I
- 19:56don't know why we still use as a measuring increment because no one uses bread
- 19:59boxes. But but no, it's it's simple. I don't have it cooked
- 20:03up, hardwired to anything but power. It connects to my WiFi. I
- 20:08can print from any computer in the house. I can print from any mobile
- 20:11device that's on the Wi Fi. And it's a laser printer. I haven't
- 20:15had to replace that cartridge in the five years that I've had it. Yeah,
- 20:19the other downside you have to think about, you know, if she
- 20:22if she looks at now tankless that are gonna be a little different. Those
- 20:25are great. If you've got kids, you're printing a lot of color,
- 20:27those are are are good. However, if you're not printing a lot and
- 20:33you get an ink jet, the problem is you don't print a lot.
- 20:36Maybe you go once every month. What's gonna happen over time is the claw
- 20:41the heads on that that inkjet could clog and then you have to go through
- 20:45a cleaning process and sometimes you'll have to take it. You'll have to take
- 20:49it somewhere. I've got a kit, but I do it myself. But
- 20:53you you could run into that. So really, laser is going to be
- 20:57I think the most cost effective way, and I think you nailed it on
- 21:00a head. Brother is great as some of the laser printers they make.
- 21:03There are no frills, no extra fanciness, nothing that you have to oh,
- 21:10you have to pay extra, unlocked dec It's just a straight up laser
- 21:15printer. Brother has been fantastic for that for like a decade. I also
- 21:19like the fact, Matt that they're super easy to set up. Now I'm
- 21:23wondering, Sean. Sean, you've mentioned in the past about HP and why
- 21:27you're you're not that big a fan of their business model. Why can you
- 21:33tell us why they are going to a subscription model. They have already subscription
- 21:37model for Inc. Meaning you pay fifteen nine a month and they ship you
- 21:41ink when you need it, so you print five hundred pages a month or
- 21:44whatever or toner whatever. But if you cancel your subscription, your printer will
- 21:52no longer work. What or if you decide you don't want to use HP
- 21:56Inc. Your printer will no longer work. Wow, that's not good.
- 22:00We're bound to buy the subscription to use your printer. Soon enough, they're
- 22:06gonna just mail you a printer and say you pay us eight ninety nine a
- 22:08month to print. If you don't want to print anymore, it just doesn't
- 22:11work. We have a paperweight. Now. I kind of wonder how that's
- 22:14gonna work with older because I have got I'll be honestly, I've gotten eleven
- 22:18zero two an HP and I love it. It's a laser printer. It
- 22:21works great, it works well. It's why you know I can print from
- 22:26the home, I could print from the cloud. And again, it's older,
- 22:29it's at least from about twenty twelve. I would say still works today.
- 22:33I just you don't replace the ink when I need it. Maybe I'm
- 22:37the newer generation HPS they're doing something like that, which is a shame because
- 22:41everybody hates the subscription. We don't need that, you know. Another good
- 22:45point to remember too, when you're buying a printer, whether you're buying a
- 22:48retail you're buying through you know, an online store, when you get that
- 22:52printer, it's generally gonna be a base amount of toner or even if you're
- 22:56buying ink of ink, just enough to get you up and running. If
- 23:02you're printing a lot right off the bat, remember that you might want to
- 23:04get a backup toner cartridge or in cartridges. I personally actually have an HP
- 23:11laser printer. I've got a color laser HP printer. We got it at
- 23:15Costco. It was it was a massive Costco discount. I mean I think
- 23:18we got I think it was like three hundred and fifty bucks whatever, and
- 23:22it came with the starter you know toner cartridges. So I obviously have the
- 23:27black, and then I have the magenta, yellow and cyon right, which
- 23:33is makes up all the colors. Once I ran out of those toners,
- 23:37I bought one of those non HP ones. But but but it comes Here's
- 23:45the thing this is this is where you get interesting because it comes with like
- 23:48a tool to rip the circuit or the computer chip out of the original HP
- 23:56cartridge and tells you to insert it into the replacement cartridge. And that's how
- 24:04you can confuse the HP printer into thinking that it's an HP authentic cartridge.
- 24:11It does kind of work. I mean it works, but like every time
- 24:15I print, the HP's like, hey, your toner's low on ink or
- 24:18you're I mean sorry, your printer's low on toner. I'm like, no,
- 24:22I'm not. I've got a lot of toner. But the chip had
- 24:25it last recorded written to it that said toner is low. So when you
- 24:30use an aftermarket ink or toner, you're gonna get that same error. Now
- 24:36with the quality of that aftermarket I'll just say this, when next time I
- 24:41have to buy toner, I'm gonna buy official HP. It works, but
- 24:45it sucks, and I hate the idea of HP doing the subscription model,
- 24:49but unfortunately that's where they're going. But to answer her question, I would
- 24:53agree with John and Matt and you Andy the Brother, the brother printer is
- 24:59amazing. The laser laser jet, Yeah, well the term laser jet actually
- 25:03is something that HP owns. That matter of fact, my first like my
- 25:08first laser was the laser jet HP laser Jet four, which I love.
- 25:15But oh my gosh, it was I want to say, when you just
- 25:18started our graphics business, it was right around one thousand dollars you know.
- 25:22Now, I mean you get a good laser printer like the Brother, but
- 25:26that, yes, laser jet is something that's owned by HP. Laser Yeah,
- 25:30laser printer black and white. You don't need to print in color.
- 25:33And they're like you said, Matt, you said they were like under under
- 25:37two hundred bucks. Like right. I even went into my Amazon purchase history
- 25:41to look this up. It is. I got the Brother Compact monochrome laser
- 25:47printer. The model is h L DASH L two three five zero d W
- 25:52for duplex and wireless, so it is a duplex printer. It can print
- 25:56on both sides automatically, and it was one hundred and fifty bucks. Wow,
- 26:02that's a great deal. Now, I want our listeners to understand something
- 26:07from an IT guys perspective. If you think you hate printers, your level
- 26:14of hatred for printers hails in comparison for the utter hate, disdain, loathing,
- 26:22and rage. I feel for them. Can I get it? Hang
- 26:26man, It does not matter how new they are, what has changed.
- 26:33Printers are always the devil of it. And I love this printer. There
- 26:38you go. That says a lot for Loretta. There you go, brother,
- 26:41laser printer might be your best solution. We can take another quick break.
- 26:45Come back. We've got more questions, more stuff about what's happening in
- 26:48the world of tech. I'm ADYE. Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 26:51I'm Matt Jones, and I'm justin. Let me find us on the web
- 26:53tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right back and now back to tech
- 26:57talk Radio. So in the last segment, we were talking about if you
- 27:02had the neurallink implanet, like if you had a disability or you were blind
- 27:06or deaf or something, and that it could enhance your ability or give you
- 27:10those opportunities to walk or do things like that. I have a buddy who
- 27:14I've know my literally my entire life. We're the same age, our dads
- 27:17were best friends. He was born with super palsy, so he's never been
- 27:21able to walk or use most of his lower limbs, basically paralyzed in the
- 27:23waist downright. And I texted him, I said, hey, this is
- 27:26what we're talking about. What do you think? He says, get really
- 27:30gets it shortly, so he sent me a novel in Texas. He said,
- 27:33you know, it's intriguing, you know, to be able to do
- 27:37all those things that he's dreamed about doing that he's seen other people do,
- 27:41et cetera. But he said, thirty seven years with this disability, I
- 27:45don't think he would change all those memories he's had in those three seven years.
- 27:51He likes to look at the challenge as a different ability, not a
- 27:53disability. And then when one door closes, another opens and it's his choice
- 27:59to walk through that door. Except and then in high school it was very
- 28:02very like eye opening for him, like, yeah, I'm not going to
- 28:04be the All star quarterback. But he did a lot of stuff in high
- 28:07school. He was in the marching band and stuff like that. But he
- 28:10also used that to pursue an opportunity in wheelchair tennis and basketball and has has
- 28:18has competed nationally and regionally at a semi professional level of those things. So
- 28:22he's you know, he says, who would have thought or drum like that
- 28:26was possible for something somebody like him. Wow. So yeah, he's he's
- 28:30very humble about it, And that's the answer. I was expecting to be
- 28:32honest, just because I've known him for so long. But it'd be interesting
- 28:36that, you know, Matt said he has a friend or his sister,
- 28:37and I'd be interesting to see what she says too. But you know,
- 28:41your minds may vary, right, everybody's going to have a different opinion on
- 28:44it. True. Interesting, I'll check with her, but I have a
- 28:47feeling it's going to be right along the same lines. I mean, I
- 28:51can tell you that there were multiple summers that we went and there were competitions
- 28:56for visually impaired people, and it was you know, you were still going
- 29:00to win gold, silver, bronze. They actually, uh it was horizon
- 29:06before they were a verizon too far back, getting it getting in the weeds
- 29:12with that, they created a sport called beep ball for visuallypaarent and legally blind.
- 29:18For those who don't know what that sport is, I think kind of
- 29:22like t ball, like you've got somebody at first, second, shortstop,
- 29:26third base, but it's like the mother of all softballs. And when you
- 29:33take a pin out of the softball, it starts beeping this real high pitch
- 29:37beep, and you'd whack the ball. Now, the people out in the
- 29:40field would obviously have a sighted person with them, so you know, they
- 29:44didn't get like drilled with a line drive because they're not going to see it
- 29:47coming. And you'd whack this ball, and then the umpire would call either
- 29:52first or third and at first or third base, they'd have a traffic cone
- 29:56and they'd flick a switch on it and it emits a high pitched tone and
- 30:00you'd run towards that noise. And if you pass the cone before somebody managed
- 30:06to come to find and pick up the beat ball, that was a run.
- 30:10If they picked it up beforehand, that was an out. And some
- 30:14of the friendships that she made, connections, experiences, things that came with
- 30:19that, I honestly, I don't know if she would if she would give
- 30:25that up. I think, Sean, it's gonna be kind of right along
- 30:29the same lines. You know. It's just like even the experiences that I
- 30:32had with him growing up, I understood he couldn't do certain things right,
- 30:34but that didn't change anything about our friendship. It's just those types of interactions
- 30:40change you as a person. So how would he be as a human now,
- 30:45you know what I mean? It's like you don't know. Yeah,
- 30:48no, no, I get it, and then it makes a lot of
- 30:49sense. All right, I've got a little question for you here. See
- 30:52if you guys give me the year. Patrick Mahomes was six years old when
- 30:56Tom Brady won his first Super Bowl. When Brady was six, you go
- 31:02back to Tom Brady's age now, Chrysler introduced their very first minivan. Any
- 31:07of you ever have a minivan? Yeah, McDonald's the Windstar Star. Yeah.
- 31:18McDonald's debuted McNuggets and it was considered to be the year the birth of
- 31:22the Internet. That's when Tom Brady was six. What year do you think
- 31:26it was? Eighty three? Matt nailed it. Yeah, really eighty three.
- 31:33Yeah. Oh, actually, how much older than I am? That's
- 31:37right, Yeah, nineteen eighty three for that, eighty three. And of
- 31:41course tomorrow, you know, the show airs on Saturday tomorrow, of course
- 31:45the big day for that, and a lot of people talking about, you
- 31:48know, where they're going to catch their sports and whatnot, and apparently some
- 31:51big announcement was made this week, Sean, you had the infall on that.
- 31:55Oh no, so everybody knows it's Super Bowl Sunday, right, everyone's
- 31:59gonna go Super Bowl. They're gonna watch it somewhere on the Big Game.
- 32:02You can't say you can't say super Bowl because the NFL owns that. No,
- 32:08here's on the Super super Will I will let you guys in on this.
- 32:14You can say super Bowl in reference to the game. You cannot say
- 32:19it when you're referring to a promotion or sale, like it's like thor Dash
- 32:22with their promotion. They can't call it even though it's running during Super Bowl.
- 32:29They can't call it the the big you know, super Bowl sweepstakes because
- 32:34they're selling something. Yes, so we can talk about it if you're just
- 32:37simply you're reporting on it, you're talking about Super Bowl, you know.
- 32:43And it's so funny because over the years the lawyers at big radio stations have
- 32:46gotten really concerned about that and told everybody just to call it the Big Game,
- 32:51which, you know, come on, so everybody knows the Big Game
- 32:55is here, Well, now he wants to say it. Everybody knows they're
- 33:00gonna watch it. Somewhere, whether it's TV on a streaming service, YouTube,
- 33:05TV, you name it, right, You're going to watch the big
- 33:07game somewhere. Yes, this, we've theory crafted this for many episodes.
- 33:15Streaming services are just going to become cable. Yeah, oh yeah. Well,
- 33:21as of February sixth, ESPN, Fox, and Warner Brothers Discovery have
- 33:30combined to form a joint sports streaming service. Okay, bloody called it.
- 33:37Let's let's talk about what that entails. Okay, you mentioned ESPN, right,
- 33:42that's Disney, right ESPN. Then you got Fox you said, so
- 33:45that's a Fox Sports like Fox Sports one, two, three, whatever.
- 33:50Right, Then you've got Okay, now here's the one Warner Brothers Discovery.
- 33:53What does that entail? That entails TNT, TBS and and other networks that
- 34:00will offer a comprehensive package that includes the NFL, NBA, MLB, and
- 34:06NHL. Wow, but you're getting like TN, T TVs. I mean
- 34:09those are big ones from Warner Discovery. So this is just the beginning,
- 34:15right, but it's gonna take another five to six years. Wait, but
- 34:19you're going to you're going to see it all encompassing sports package, right because
- 34:22you have you have MS who just signed an Apple TV deal. Yeah for
- 34:28MS and whatever, FIFA or whatever. It's all on Apple TV. So
- 34:34this is the first of many, and this, this archetype is going to
- 34:37be It's it's what it is, right, everybody hates there's all these streaming
- 34:42services. Bring them all back to one, and everybody's gonna pay a buttload
- 34:45of money to have them all in one place again, just like cable,
- 34:51and people are then gonna complain about the price. Okay, yes, I
- 34:53agree with everything you just said, but let's take this back to what nineteen
- 34:59seventy nine. There were guys probably sitting around the table talking about this exact
- 35:04thing that they're gonna say. Oh my god, there's a new TV channel
- 35:07that's gonna have all of the sports on one TV channel. They're gonna call
- 35:13it. Chex's notes E sp N. Is this the birth of a new
- 35:20ESPN? Yeah, I don't know. They haven't named it. All three
- 35:22of them said this is gonna be I bet she's gonna be called ESPN plus
- 35:25plus. Disney's gonna throw an extra couple billion at it and be like,
- 35:30yeah, just why it is a plus super It's it's getting crazy and I
- 35:38actually looked into that this week because I was thinking, maybe I want to
- 35:43cut back on my cable bill is enormous. I mean it's seriously, it's
- 35:47what I would pay for a car payment, just not even ten years ago.
- 35:52Uh. And I'm I'm looking at I'm thinking, Okay, maybe it's
- 35:54time to just really back off. I got the fast Internet. I don't
- 35:59get the internet like you guys get yet I'm paying a premium. Uh.
- 36:02And then I was looking on all the channels I get it. I'm like,
- 36:05okay, I watch four channels, maybe on a constant basis, but
- 36:08I got to have my local. And I looked at seth, I looked
- 36:13at the dish. I wanted to see, Okay, the same thing.
- 36:15It's the same thing when you look at it. Yeah, it's the same
- 36:19thing no matter what. Cable satellite. That's why they call it cable satellite.
- 36:22Yeah, it's like it's grouped into one. Yeah, and it's you
- 36:24know, I understand licensing. I understand how that works, but it's it's
- 36:29getting frustrating. It really agreed. Because there's what's happening to cable satellite.
- 36:32They're they're losing their subscribers and so the only way to keep them afloat and
- 36:37keep their shareholders happy is to raise prices on the rest of the customers,
- 36:40which then in turn makes them cancel, and then they raise the prices for
- 36:45everybody else. It's just it's going to be a never ending vicious cycle,
- 36:49right exactly. And now that we've talked about the game, how many cameras
- 36:55the entire so think of the whole the whole Super Bowl as as an experience
- 37:00right right, every side show, every little film event they're doing. How
- 37:07many cameras across all of that do you think are involved? You're gonna let
- 37:12us guess each one of us. Yeah, I can do, Yeah,
- 37:14I guess, Andy, what do you think? How many cameras do you
- 37:15think? I would say fifteen, because you have the air, you have
- 37:20an area of the drone, you have you have the ones through all stages
- 37:24of the stadium, and then of course I would you include the one in
- 37:29the blimp. Oh yeah, so this is ques think of it like,
- 37:32think of it like the pregame show, game day, like every not not
- 37:37just the game itself, but all not just inside the stadium, all the
- 37:40extra outside the stadium too. Okay, Alicia doesn't open up, does it?
- 37:45No, do you want to alter your answer? Andy? No,
- 37:47I'm gonna say fifteen. Okay, I'm gonna say two and fifty Matt,
- 37:53So I was gonna go with the two hundred range, and then I remember
- 37:58that this is the first year that the game is going to be played in
- 38:01Vegas, so I'm going to go with two thy sixty three. No,
- 38:08that's that's a lot. Wow. Wow, there's there's always that one Jude
- 38:13that goes for one dollar on the price is right. I was just doing
- 38:16that. But the other direction, can you have, Andy, might be
- 38:21closer? Oh gosh, alright? Really? So the CBS put out by
- 38:24the by the number spreadsheet, all right, and for all of their stuff
- 38:30for their entire breakdown, one hundred and sixty five cameras. Wow, that's
- 38:35five. Yeah, it's twenty four cameras that are native four K, so
- 38:39the ability to have that a four K video and then punch into a ten
- 38:44eighty a ten eighty P image like as a zoom man. Yeah. Six
- 38:49six cameras in each of the uprights, right, twenty four robotic cameras,
- 38:54twenty pylon cameras, twenty three cameras that are capable to do it augmented reality,
- 39:00five skycams, three drones, five cinema cameras for depth of field shots
- 39:07like the ones they had run in the en zones. Six cameras around the
- 39:10strip. Forty nine replay machines, so the forty nine operators running replays.
- 39:16Wow, six hundred record channels of replay, so they'll be able to bring
- 39:21in six hundred channels of different things all time time. They'll have nineteen individual
- 39:27individual mobile trucks for production. Wow. Amazing, that's insane. If you
- 39:31want to read the breakdown on this, I put a link it'll be up
- 39:35on the website, but it's a full breakdown of the individual types of cameras,
- 39:38the cost. I think it's something of like fourteen million dollars worth of
- 39:43production equipment. Wow. Alright, easily another quick break. We'll come back
- 39:46with a question that we've had sent into the show. You can send yours
- 39:50in tech Guys at tech talk radio dot com. You can also x us
- 39:54at tech talk Radio. Now back to Chief Talk Radio, going back with
- 40:00a question from Dale, and it's good timing on this being that this is
- 40:04the weekend. Dale in Phoenix listens to US online so thank you Dale.
- 40:07We appreciate that. Thank you Dale. Dale says he has friends coming over
- 40:12for a Super Bowl party. His TV is super dirty, and he says,
- 40:16I swear I've not been tossing food at it. Lies. Lies,
- 40:22He says, How do I clean it? What is the best way to
- 40:24clean the television? Step one, don't use wind decks, really, do
- 40:30not use window The ammonia is going to ruin it. The ammonia is going
- 40:34to destroy your TV. Don't bother spending money on the cleaning kits. You
- 40:40get a good microfiber towel. You put some water on it and just kind
- 40:45of like gently make sure the water is there in the microfiber. Put a
- 40:47little pressure on the TV with the microfiber there, and just gently wipe it
- 40:52off. If it didn't work on the first pass, you do it again.
- 40:55The microfiber is going to do most of your most of the stuff that
- 40:59you do in there. If you use a paper towel or tissues or something,
- 41:04then you're gonna have lint all over the screen. Cheaper paper towels can
- 41:07actually scratch it. Tissues can actually leave residue because a lot of tissues have
- 41:13vixed vapor rub lotion whatever in there, and it can leave residue on the
- 41:15screen. You just need a little elbow grease, which is not a brand
- 41:21that means effort, a microfibercloth and some water. Anything outside of that you
- 41:25take a risk of damaging your screen or spending money. You don't have to.
- 41:30I agree with the microfiber. I've also always been told that a little
- 41:34bit of seventy percent isoprople rubbing alcohol. It will help clean up those other
- 41:40those other things. It's rubbing alcohol, it's not ammonia. It can still
- 41:45damage some of the film coatings that are put on the on the diffuser panel
- 41:51that goes in front of the LCD screen. The reason I can speak to
- 41:53this is I cannot tell you when I was a geek squad how many monitors
- 41:57we had come in from some little grandma who was like, well, Timmy
- 42:01just said to spray it with windex or use rubbing alcohol. And I was
- 42:05like, well, so I have some good news and bad news. The
- 42:08good news as monitors are on sale over there. The bad news is you're
- 42:14gonna have to go buy one now. I bought this stuff called Woosh.
- 42:16Have you guys ever seen this stuff? Whoosh I founded at Office Depot and
- 42:24I use it for my laptop screen and it is great. I mean,
- 42:29it does a great job. I wonder if you could use something like that
- 42:32on a TV screen. If it's good for a laptop, would it be
- 42:36good for a big TV or do you think really honestly, the microfiber and
- 42:39maybe water would be the best way. I would go microfiber and water and
- 42:45if you got something really really stubborn that won't come off, and then you
- 42:50can look at something like woosh. But I mean a lot of the laptops
- 42:54I mean, for example, Max have basically a piece of glass in front
- 43:00of it. That's right, yeah, yeah, And you know a lot
- 43:02of the other newer laptops have something like that in front of the screen.
- 43:06So that's what you're cleaning with a big old TV. You are cleaning the
- 43:09screen, so you don't have a huge pane of glass in front of it
- 43:14to provide that level of protection. So I'd say start with just a microfiber
- 43:19towel and a little bit of water, and you put the water on the
- 43:21toel. Not you don't like, spray the water onto the screen, right,
- 43:24do not? Oh God, please do not spray a bunch of water
- 43:30on your TV. I am not telling you to do that. I don't
- 43:32want the hate mail. Just spray it on the cloth cloth. Yeah.
- 43:38And it doesn't need to be dripping wet either, No, it just needs
- 43:42to be like a touch damp. Like if you imagine if you had a
- 43:46spray bottle just being like one two that that should be it. All right,
- 43:52Well, hopefully that will help him out and stop throwing food at your
- 43:55TV. That's not good, but sorry. So what if you need to
- 44:00buy a new TV? You know, somebody listening maybe thinking, you know,
- 44:04maybe I can get out to a sale tonight, I have a TV
- 44:07in by tomorrow or get one on Sunday morning? What are some things they
- 44:10should think about? Because there was a big thing that went on with Visio.
- 44:14I don't know if you guys heard about this where they were maybe incorrectly
- 44:17talking about refresh rates and it was confusing people. You got a lot of
- 44:22tech speak, you know, and people, okay, I guess that means
- 44:25something. What does that mean when it comes to refresh rates? And four
- 44:30K, a K six K justin you worked a lot in this and you
- 44:35got interviewed about this. Yeah, they talked to you on TV, didn't
- 44:37they. Yeah, it was on Fox five, my old TV station in
- 44:40San Diego. But this was this was back in the day when it was
- 44:44like seven to twenty P was the standard, which I don't know, Sean,
- 44:49what is the standard. I mean, I think a lot of places
- 44:51are still technically seven P tenny DP HDR is the de facto sports broadcast standard
- 44:59right now. Seven to twenty P is the substandard, but it still exists
- 45:05ESPN broadcasts and seven to twenty P still just straight across the board, all
- 45:08ESPM property seven twenty P. So yeah, if you were going out to
- 45:15buy a TV, a ten ADP HDR TV that has one hundred and forty
- 45:20four refresh rate is gonna be an OLED screen is gonna be perfect. Right,
- 45:24if you're not looking to spend a huge amount of money, You're gonna
- 45:28get eight K and four K and you know fourteen forty thrown at you.
- 45:32Right, Those are great if you want to spend the money to get that,
- 45:36because you can use those things for your computer that can do resolutions that
- 45:38high. Right, But except for the Super Bowl, the Big Game,
- 45:44that's going to be the first native four K broadcast. If you have an
- 45:47HDR TV and you can watch ten ADP content, that's where your bread and
- 45:52butter's gonna be right now, at least for the next five to six years,
- 45:55until four K is is the is the de facto standard and everybody gets
- 46:00up there because if you're watching an ESPN on your ten ADP or four K
- 46:06TV, all it is is seven to twenty p upscaled. Yeah, an
- 46:10upscale does not mean it's not the same quality as like native four K.
- 46:16So I've added the four K package to my YouTube TV, you know,
- 46:20just to you know that, and that includes the Super Bowl I just mentioned
- 46:22that, but it also includes some other channels, And a lot of these
- 46:27are just like super niche channels like Outdoor Wildlife Channel, like It's they're not
- 46:34like the major channels, Like they're not something that you would want to watch
- 46:37all the time. So Sean is absolutely right, We've got a long way
- 46:42to go before four K is truly the standard. When it comes to some
- 46:46of these brands, though, do you have a preference. I mean,
- 46:50there's Roco, There's there's you know, LG, there's Sony. Is Is
- 46:53there any that stand out as being super good? I have. I have
- 46:58two for preference actually, and then I want to throw real quick a dissenting
- 47:02viewpoint onto this right. If I'm if I'm gonna spend the money on a
- 47:08good TV, like it's gonna be my home theater TV, and I'm going
- 47:13big with it, I'm going Sony. That that is the direction I am
- 47:16going. If I'm doing anything else, I am probably gonna go with TCL.
- 47:23I have a tcl uh. It's a it's got the built in Roku.
- 47:28I think they also have him now with Android TV baked into it,
- 47:31which I love. I love Android TV being able to click a button on
- 47:37my remote and use the Google Assistant to be like where can I stream?
- 47:42And it pulls it up and it's like you can stream it on this app
- 47:45that you own, this one, this one where you can buy. Wow,
- 47:46really like that app. It's it's lovely. Now my dissenting viewpoint right
- 47:53with the TV. This is actually something that I've been thinking about for when
- 47:58we upgrade our home theater. I don't think when this Sony TV croaks,
- 48:05or when the upstairs TV croaks and we move this one upstairs, I don't
- 48:07think I'm going to buy another TV the costs have come down enough on short
- 48:13throw and ultra short throw projectors that I think that's where I'm going to go
- 48:17next, because I can take a thing that again, using a set of
- 48:22measurements that I don't know why exist anymore, which is the size of a
- 48:25bread box, I can get something that big. It sits six inches away
- 48:32from the wall and throws up a one hundred and twenty inch native four K
- 48:37screen boom, and the new ones that are coming out with the laser lamp,
- 48:42that brings up the reliability and life span of the device by a very
- 48:49large amount, because it used to be every couple of years you'd have to
- 48:52replace your projector lamp expensive and if you did it wrong and got your oils
- 48:57on there when you're replacing the lamp, it could maybe, I don't know,
- 49:00explode, which I'm all for immersive TV. I'm not for that level
- 49:05of immersive TV, Like I don't need to be watching die Hard and have
- 49:09crap explode in my living room. That's too much for me. But if
- 49:15I can just have this little laser bulb in there throwing up uh you know,
- 49:19on a tiny little oat lead screen in front, throwing up one hundred
- 49:22and twenty inch screen boom right there. Oh yeah, definitely doing that.
- 49:27So just to just like a lot of people might get confused when you say
- 49:30short throw, right because like everybody thinking in a home theater system, you've
- 49:34got the projector to the back of the room and it's you know, the
- 49:37farther you get, the bigger, you know, the smaller the image gets.
- 49:39Right, So a short throw just means it's just you don't you only
- 49:43have to be a few inches away or a few feet away from the surface
- 49:47you're projecting up instead of like my projector's twenty feet away from the wall to
- 49:52get my one hundred and twenty inch image right. Yea four K I do
- 49:57not mind'ly a tenn aphdr when I bought it. I bought it in twenty
- 50:00nineteen, so four K just was the price point for four K projectors,
- 50:04wasn't there. But the newer projectors also will do automatic I don't know if
- 50:10it's light ar or if it's laser scanning, and do automatic keystone for you,
- 50:15so it'll automatically map your wall. So if you have an angled wall,
- 50:19you're slowly an angle, it'll automatically map and do a perfect keystone flat.
- 50:24Wow? Now is it is it smarter to get a screen? You
- 50:29can buy screens and they're relatively inexpensive or just projected on the wall. Right.
- 50:34This is where it gets tricky, right, because if you're projecting on
- 50:36a not white wall, you're gonna interfere with the colors of the projector.
- 50:39And if it's a glossy paint versus matte paint. Yeah, so buy a
- 50:45screen probably ideal. Would you put up a sheet and pull it taut?
- 50:49Yes? Right, I've seen people just shoot them on their their home walls,
- 50:53or paint a wall white with matte paint and make it look good.
- 50:58I have a screen that was into my house. It rolls down, you
- 51:00know. I just pushed the button and slides down out of the ceiling that
- 51:04was here when I bought the house. It's perfect for what I need.
- 51:06Nice. But you know, you can get relatively inexpensive projectors. Obviously,
- 51:12the newer ones that are short thrower, the price point goes up, especially
- 51:15for the four K or the ten aphdr ones like that. But man,
- 51:20that's not wrong, right. Projectors may be the option if you can do
- 51:22those short throws very good, or you could even get those those screens that
- 51:29come down. I mean that looks pretty nice too, or you could just
- 51:32get a vision pro. Oh there you go. Look at it's winning you
- 51:36over. Justin No, I'm just wrapping the show up, wrapping it right
- 51:40back to the start. We do have to take another break. We'll be
- 51:44back with more of tech Talk Radio. Find it so the way. I
- 51:45have a tech talk radio dot com. And now back to tech talk Radio.
- 51:51So we have our last question of the show from Rodney and Tucson.
- 51:53Rodney asks, I am in the market for a laptop to replace my previous
- 51:58one from about five years ago. I've been shopping and seeing these HP machines
- 52:01for about two point fifty that say they have one hundred and twenty eight gigs
- 52:05of storage four gigs of RAM. I'm only using it for work, but
- 52:07I'm wondering if I could use this for my purposes. Thoughts and what types
- 52:12of budget I should look at if I'm wanting more storage. Rodney, I'm
- 52:15gonna tell you off the bat, don't buy this laptop. The first strike
- 52:19against it is an HP, and the second strike against it is it's two
- 52:22hundred and fifty bucks. And let me explain why there are certain skews that
- 52:28companies create certain versions of a laptop that, yeah, they'll create either a
- 52:32super cheap version for like two fifty. They're also notorious for creating ones specifically
- 52:37for days like Black Friday, like when you come in the door and there's
- 52:40like, hey, here's this like seventy five dollars, great laptop, they
- 52:44only make it for that day. Well, with this laptop specifically, it
- 52:47sounds like your last one lasted about five years. One hundred and twenty eight
- 52:52gigs of storage is hardly anything now. Four gigs of RAM is enough to
- 52:58maybe open Chrome and all of tabs, right if you're realistically looking to replace
- 53:04it and you don't want to have to replace it a year or two down
- 53:06the road, which I can almost guarantee you you would with that machine,
- 53:09I would recommend expecting to spend about double that, around five hundred dollars.
- 53:15And I know that's probably not what Ronnie wants to hear. But the reason
- 53:20I say that is you spend a little bit more and you're going to get
- 53:22a lot more lifetime out of it if you're looking for something small, easy
- 53:27to use. Kind of along those lines, I'm actually a big fan of
- 53:30the Microsoft Surface Go laptops. I have a Surface Go three. I think
- 53:37it's either A two or three, and I love that thing. Like,
- 53:39am I going to be able to game on it or do high level coating
- 53:44things like that. No, but it's got a touchscreen, it has a
- 53:47fingerprint reader built into the power button. It's got a good decent midline processor
- 53:53like eight gigs a RAM. I think a five to twelve gig hard drive.
- 53:58It has everything that you need for just a good, solid daily driver.
- 54:02And most importantly, it has good quality components that were used to make
- 54:07it that aren't going to fail out the gate. I know some people will
- 54:10say, well, you know, you could just save to the cloud.
- 54:13You don't need all the storage on your laptop the programs you installed do uh
- 54:17huh yeah, And I'm sorry that is Bill Gates. Way back at one
- 54:22point you said, like, if anyone says they need more than like five
- 54:25hundred and twelve kilobytes of RAM kilobytes of RAM, well I don't know what
- 54:30they're doing. Well, I mean my machine has thirty two gigabytes in it,
- 54:34so four gigs is not enough. It is the bare minimum to run
- 54:38an OS and I would bet that that is running like the stripped down Windows
- 54:43S version, which is like it's it's like if Windows got hit in the
- 54:49head a lot and then hitting the head a lot more. Don't you want
- 54:54to look at what eight gigabytes maybe at least five twelve gigabytes storage or more
- 55:00one terabyte really is inexpensive right now, I'd say maybe go with that if
- 55:02you can. Don't look at this and be like, oh, well,
- 55:05I can spend I can get those features in like a Chromebook. That's a
- 55:09completely different operating system. It's a completely different world. If you're looking for
- 55:15the laptop experience for what you've had for like the last five years, honestly,
- 55:19spend around five hundred or more and you'll be much happier. That's all
- 55:22we have for this week's show. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean du It,
- 55:27I'm Matt Jones, and I'm justin Lemme. Once again, Tech talk
- 55:30Radio dot Com have yourselves great week. See you
