Pilot Intentionally Crashed Plane Near Bend | Bend News
A Cirrus SR22T pilot intentionally crashed his plane in a remote wooded area west of Bend on August 4, killing 48-year-old Steven Nicholas Charlton — the only person aboard. He’d taken off earlier that day, circled for over five hours, and refused to speak with authorities except his family. A massive multi-agency response, including the FBI and FAA, was launched to ensure public safety. The crash site remains off-limits as investigators work, with the NTSB and FAA arriving today.
