- 1:15Ogden Newspapers will be stopped by as well as our own Brad Michael Honey.
- 1:18That's coming up, plus standing by. We have a mayor in the area
- 1:22that's also running for House of Delegates, Greg ingramrom Montgomery. We're going to
- 1:25talk to him. But I do need to send things to the newsroom right
- 1:27now because we have breaking news out of Putnam County. Chris Lawrence is here.
- 1:30Chris good Morning. Had a bus incident, So yeah, tell us
- 1:34about it. Thank you, Dave. This that happened this morning, probably
- 1:38in the last hour. It happened in Eleanor on Route sixty two. A
- 1:42school bus driver evidently had a medical episode of some kind, lost control of
- 1:47the bus. It veered off of Route sixty two, went through a vinyl
- 1:51fence, and crashed head on into a tree. The bus driver and five
- 1:57students on board the bus were taken to the hospital for observation. Injuries resulting
- 2:01from the wreck do not appear to be life threatening or very serious. It
- 2:06was mostly more precautionary to take those students to the hospital to get them checked
- 2:09out. But that's what happened, and of course if you were traveling in
- 2:13Illinoi at Blockerroute sixty two for a while this morning. But evidently it was
- 2:16a medical episode involving the bus driver. So the Sheriff's department out there is
- 2:22investigating. All right, We'll have more stories because we have folks that are
- 2:24covering the story as well. And Chris, I appreciate you stopping by to
- 2:28tell us about it this morning, and thoughts and prayer saw all those involved.
- 2:30Man things all right, man, Chris Lawrence again from the newsroom,
- 2:32and again the breaking story. Within about an hour or so, a bus
- 2:36crash in Putnam County, the community of Eleanor. It appears that the bus
- 2:39driver had a medical emergency of some sort and the bus crashed and at least
- 2:44five students were injured. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening,
- 2:47but everyone was taken to the hospital. We've got stories already posted about it
- 2:52online wv metronews dot com and also on the Twitter machine as well, So
- 2:59go check the out and we'll have more information as it becomes available. The

- 3:55show before as the mayor of Montgomery, and you cant he used to be
- 4:00the mayor of Montgomery, but he's also a run for House of Delegates this
- 4:02time, Greg Ingram, Mayor, Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 4:04Thanks today, good morning to you, and pleasure to be here. I
- 4:09understand you and I were talking in the Green Brother that you were running around
- 4:12not long ago down in my hometown. You're in La. I spent about
- 4:15six hours, six years, I'm sorry, in La when we built the
- 4:20Walker Machinery branch there in Rita or Rita. How you say that right between
- 4:27Man and Logan. And I was down there visiting Serafino the other day and
- 4:32the mayor and Seraphene has been mayor of the city of Logan for at least
- 4:35twenty years or more. First class gentleman. He's all right, and the
- 4:40heck of a baker back in the day too when he had City Bakery.
- 4:43Yes, and he's still he can still bake too. So next time you're
- 4:46down there. But Greg was telling me about that. Before we get to
- 4:48your candidacy for House, we'll talk about city Montgomery. Tell us about some
- 4:53things going on to Montgomery, right, Well, we're doing pretty good.
- 4:55We've got six or seven more houses that our buildings structure that are going to
- 5:00be coming down this year, just trying to clean up some of the blight.
- 5:03We had a high school there that burnt, or middle school that burnt
- 5:09two years ago. It's taken us two years to get through the courts.
- 5:12I think the judge is now ordered that that property be given to the city,
- 5:15so now I can work the next two years to get it cleaned up.
- 5:17But you know, nothing happens overnight, and it all happens at the
- 5:21speed of government, which is not very fast. Let's talk about the storm
- 5:26damage last week. Do you guys get a lot because they keep me in
- 5:28every day of the National Weather Service comes out with a couple of more tornadoes.
- 5:30Two more were added in the Cabin Creek area and also in the Hernshaw
- 5:35area that was released yesterday. They maybe even more today. How did you
- 5:38guys do in the storm last week? Well, we lost a lot several
- 5:41trees. The Challenge Academy lost two vans, totaled them with trees falling on
- 5:46top of those. And those are the folks that know where the bic Athletic
- 5:51Center is. The two huge historic trees in the front yard toppled. We
- 5:56lost a few phone poles and light poles and stuff like that, but and
- 6:00a little bit of roof damage. My home took some a hit and had
- 6:03to put a little few roofing shingles on, But other than that we survived
- 6:08pretty well. That's good. Let's talk about your run for house. Your
- 6:12running for house District fifty two. Is that right? That's correct? What
- 6:15area does that encompass? Well, that covers from the eastern end of Montgomery,
- 6:19which is actually in fact County, down to fifty second Street in Kanall
- 6:24City, Cabin Creek, Paint Creek on the south side of the river.
- 6:30Okay, So after how many years have you been mayor? Eight years?
- 6:33Eight years? And so why do you want to now join the House of
- 6:36delegance. Well, I've been on a lot of boards for the Upper Kanal
- 6:42Valley, the on fifteen different boards, the things that really expand beyond the
- 6:49reach of the just the city of Montgomery. So I'm already engaged in a
- 6:54lot of things in the Upper Kanov Valley and I'm just tired of sometimes we
- 6:59get treated like second class citizens in the upper end of the valley. And
- 7:02it used to be different back in the day when Cole was king and we
- 7:06had a lot of coal companies and stuff up there. But I'm already engaged.
- 7:11I'm already involved, Dave, and I just think I can use some
- 7:15of that intellecting skills to help the other residents in the Aper Kanov Valley.
- 7:19We've brought over nine million dollars to the City of Montgomery over the last several
- 7:24years, and I just think that I can expand that. I have a
- 7:27lot of contacts out there, and I just want to see the Upper Kanal
- 7:30Valley be vibrant and beautiful as it is. Will you continue to serve as
- 7:36mayor? Yes, I'm actually on the ballot two times. This time I'm
- 7:41going to be running for mayor and I'm also running for House of Delegates.
- 7:46I think I had need one more term as mayor to finish what I started
- 7:48and get the rest of it cleaned up. But you know, there's so
- 7:53many things that are in the Upper Canal Valley that it seems like that the
- 7:56high paying jobs leave, but the carcasses remain, like the old power plant
- 8:01up there, the tech campus, all of the load outs along the river.
- 8:05The carcasses are still there, but those high paying jobs have been taken
- 8:09and I'd just like to be a voice to try to fight and help that.
- 8:11And you know, I know Larry Road did a great job. Larry's
- 8:15not running again, so we have to have somebody that has a strong connections
- 8:20throughout the state to carry that on. How's the campaign been so far.
- 8:24It's been doing pretty well. I've been endorsed by about nine organizations, several
- 8:30labor organizations, West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, have a lot of endorsements and
- 8:35just normal working on, you know, the campaign signage and that type of
- 8:39stuff. But ultimately it's the people's choice and I want them to choose who
- 8:43they want, and I think that the Upper Kanal Valley has a right future.
- 8:50It's nine point sixteen. Again we're talking with Greg Ingram, who's the
- 8:52mayor of Montgomery, but it's also a candidate for a House of Delegates.
- 8:56Dave Alan showing five day Life brought to you by Fresh Air. They'll change
- 8:58your heating and cool you to air filters for your home, your retail establishment,
- 9:01your business, restaurant, church, and they can custom build those for
- 9:05you. They're also available twenty four hours a day. This is Fresh Air
- 9:09Filters dot us. That's the website three zero four four four zero one one
- 9:13zero four for fresh air because everyone deserves fresh air. Mayor when you're out
- 9:16talking to people and you're out campaigning, door knocking, sign waving and meet
- 9:20the candidate's forums, whatever it is that you're doing, what do you hear
- 9:22from the people out there? Well, a lot of it is just what
- 9:26I said, you know, people just they want a few services. They
- 9:31want a few things that they see that people get that we're not receiving in
- 9:37the appercanav Valley. You know, we've come a long way. And as
- 9:39again, as I said, Larry Row did a great job. We have
- 9:43pretty good paved roads up there, but we do need some alleyways and stuff
- 9:48like that paved. And what I'm hearing from the people up there is they
- 9:52just they just want to see some of the bleeding stop and someone to be
- 9:58a voice for them Kannon Valley to clean up some of the blight and stop
- 10:03trying to dump all of the rehabilitation facilities in the Upper Kanal Valley. There's
- 10:09good ones and there's bad ones, and the overnight ones seem to be the
- 10:13ones that have issues because those folks are turned loose at night, and they're
- 10:18not bad people. They just need help. And I think that I hear
- 10:22a lot of that. I hear a lot of you know, we we
- 10:26we have empty buildings here, so everybody wants to put blight and things that
- 10:31that is not favorable to grow in a community in the eastern end of the
- 10:35valley. But I want to I do want to say one thing. I
- 10:39can't think enough. I can't thank the Kanaal County Commission enough. The Kanal
- 10:43County Commission has never left our side in the Upper kanav Valley. Uh,
- 10:48They've been an advocate for us. And UH, I just have such respect
- 10:52for those gentlemen. And uh they've been there, They've been our rock.
- 10:56And UH when a lot of other people left and pulled out and went the
- 11:00other way, Kennall kind of commission was always right there to get to loan
- 11:03us, lend us a hand. And I want to do a shout out
- 11:07to them and thank them very much for what they've done for the eastern end
- 11:11of the valley. Do you have a website or social media or anything you
- 11:13want to plug I do Facebook, ingram at WV house and I have a
- 11:20phone number. People can call me if they want a question, have any
- 11:24questions, It's six eight one two nine two three zero ninety four, and
- 11:28leave me a message if I don't answer, and I'll get back to as
- 11:31soon as I can. Final thirty, Why should someone vote for you for
- 11:33House because I'm already engaged in the Upper Kanav Valley and already on thirty boards
- 11:37or fifteen boards. I'm sorry, you just added a few in time we've
- 11:41been on the air. That's how popular you are. Well, and I
- 11:45have I've handed three or four since we've been on the air, and maybe
- 11:50I just didn't count them all. But I understand I'm already engaged. I've
- 11:52already been there, I've already I'm a proven person in the city of Montgomery
- 11:58and what we've done up there to change that town. And so I just
- 12:01appreciate anyone's vote. But the key is I want the people to vote for
- 12:05who they want. All right, Well, were the best of luck,
- 12:07mayor thank you, maryor greg Ingrama Montgomery also candidate for House of Delegates and
- 12:13District fifty two. And you are a this is I didn't mention this.
- 12:16You're a Republican. That is correct. All right, all right, we

- 15:46I'm not even sure what that means. But okay, all right,
- 15:48man, that's good promo material right there, right, He's radical like a
- 15:52ninja turtle. You know, I said at the top of the show,
- 15:54I think I did. Anyway, I kind of got distract little bit because
- 15:56we had that bust crash over in Putnam count and again, thoughts or prayers

- 16:03working on the story now. But I wanted to bring you in to talk
- 16:07about campaign finance because I'm kind of a I'm kind of a geek when it
- 16:10comes to this stuff. Oh, me too, But man, you're like
- 16:12a kid at Christmas time when the campaign finance stuff comes out, right,
- 16:17Oh, I'm like the school teacher. I'm the one literally hitting refreshed and
- 16:21texting candidates like, hey, where's your report, where's your report? Where's
- 16:25your report? And of course the big reports, the governor's raise and particularly
- 16:30Patrick Morris, the Attorney General, which took forever to even upload. That's
- 16:33how big it was. It didn't even get online until yesterday. Was because
- 16:37of all the decimals or what they got. A lot of small dollar donations
- 16:44on there, nearly you know, about eight hundred and seventy six thousand dollars
- 16:48worked for a quarter and a lot of small increments. So it's a big
- 16:52report. So as far as money goes, we'll break it down specifically.
- 16:55On the Republican side, just speaking money right now, it's pretty much more
- 17:00and then everyone else pretty much, especially this past quarter. Like I said,
- 17:04eight hundred and seventy six thousand dollars for the quarter we're talking January through
- 17:11March, so that's a big chunk. Three point three million raised election year
- 17:15to date, and he's sitting on about one point six million dollars in cash
- 17:19on hand. Some of that obviously is aside for the general election, but
- 17:25some of it's designated for the primary, so that gives him a pretty good
- 17:27haul. That's not even counting in third party groups like Americans for Prosperity and
- 17:33Black Bear Pack being supported by the Club for Growth that's already spent one point
- 17:37eight million dollars in independent expenditures on behalf of Morsey during that same three month
- 17:44period. Again, important to point out, Stephen, this is for the
- 17:47Republican primary, that's re election, and Morrisey is leading in most of the
- 17:52most of the polls I've seen, he's leading in the in the money grab,
- 17:56and that's pretty much what it is at this point. Why do you
- 17:59think that that Morrissey's message is getting out to people? Where's the money?
- 18:03I mean, because obviously it's not just big donors, as you said,
- 18:06there are, there are a lot of smaller donors to Why do you think
- 18:08that Morrissey's message is resonating with people, Well, when it comes to fundraising,
- 18:11it's a little bit deceiving. And I don't mean to say that the
- 18:14Morrissey campaigns being the seat full, but they, like a lot of campaigns
- 18:18these days, use independent fundraising vendor groups that go out and do a lot
- 18:23of this fundraising. They use a company called Red Curve, which is known
- 18:27for sending out multiple solicitations. They have lists donor lists from all over the
- 18:33country, people that just support Republican can no matter who it is, no
- 18:37matter who it is, So that's what they hit up for a lot of
- 18:40this and it's always just like ten dollars at a time, fifteen dollars at
- 18:44time. I saw a donation on there for ninety nine cents, like I
- 18:48mean, they are obviously somebody in radio did that, Yeah, no doubt.
- 18:51So it's one of those things where they hit up all these donor lists,
- 18:56and I think that plays into it a lot. Plus they also have
- 18:57a joint fundraising committee that they do with multiple other committees to try to bring
- 19:03in money. So I mean, and of course, like I said,
- 19:06they've got third party groups that are kind of backing them kind of short as
- 19:10a short stop in a way. So I mean, there's just tons of
- 19:14support for him as far as money goes all. Right, Now, about
- 19:17how about the other ones? I mean, I know if you turn on
- 19:19your television at night and there's some on radio as well, it seems like
- 19:22it's a battle between Morrissey and Chris Miller. It's either their campaign's going against
- 19:27each other or it's, as you said, the packs going after each other.
- 19:32I mean, sure, how's Miller doing well? Chris Miller, of
- 19:33course has a decent amount of money, but a lot of that came from
- 19:37the three million dollar loan that he had already put in his campaign. Donor
- 19:41wise, it's a little bit not as extensive. This quarter, he raised
- 19:45about two hundred and sixteen thousand dollars. He's raised more than one point five
- 19:51million dollars election your date, he's sitting on about one point two million dollars
- 19:56of cash on hand. Now, let's take a look at capital. Capital
- 19:59doesn't more capital, I should say, doesn't have as many commercials out or
- 20:02anything like that, is going around the state working it really hard. But
- 20:06he came in second in the fundraising, So he raised three hundred and thirty
- 20:10seven thousand dollars, has raised about one point five million dollars election year to
- 20:15date, and he's just got a little over one million dollars in cash on
- 20:18hand. So while Miller has more cash on hand going into these final month
- 20:22and a half, a lot that's from himself for as more Capitol's donation is
- 20:29coming from donations. What about Macwarner, Secretary of State. Well, mcwarner
- 20:36not as well as the others. He raised seventy two thousand dollars for the
- 20:40quarter. He has raised a total of five hundred and twenty three thousand dollars
- 20:44election year to date, and he's sitting on about one hundred and ninety two
- 20:48thousand dollars in cash on hand. So the top four candidates for Republican there's
- 20:53even a couple others, David Roberts Kevin Christensen, they both reported no donations,
- 21:00but mac Warner comes at the bottom of the of the pack. One
- 21:03of the things about I think is interesting, and I don't know what's going
- 21:06to happen on election day, nobody does, but the fact that if you
- 21:11look at those the four leading candidates, Attorney General Morrissey and Secretary of State.
- 21:15Make Warner have that advantage to a certain extent because they have run statewide
- 21:19races and they are very well known. I mean, Warner is from Charleston
- 21:25originally, but a lot of his adult life and his wife and his kids
- 21:27and everything were in the Morgantown area. Plus he's run state wide. He's
- 21:30you know, two time Secretary of State. Morrissey, you know, a
- 21:33couple of times says attorney general. He had the Senate race. Whatever,
- 21:37I think that lends itself. I was reading some comments online from somebody that
- 21:42said that they were in the eastern Panhandle and until this election, they'd never
- 21:45heard of Chris Miller, and so there is something to be said for having
- 21:48run a statewide race. Oh, I think so for sure. I mean,
- 21:52as we know, Patrick Morrissey has run three times for attorney General,
- 21:56first in twenty twelve, and he's won three elections. And of course he
- 22:00was on the ballot in twenty eighteen for US He didn't win that, but
- 22:03he did come close. So four times total on statewide ballot if you're counting
- 22:10the US Center race, so people have seen his name a lot. Mac
- 22:14Warner, for comparison, has ran two statewide elections, you know, twenty
- 22:18sixteen, twenty twenty. But Morrisey's got a few more under his belt.
- 22:23Perhaps that helps him a little out a little bit more. Maybe it hurts
- 22:27Warner to some extent having another Warner on the ballot, Chris Warner, and
- 22:32there's a confusion about who's running for what. I don't know, but could
- 22:36hurt or help maybe, yeah, exactly. His brother Chris is running for
- 22:38secretary. So he got a couple texts here for Steve, and then we'll
- 22:41move on to Texas. How does Steven think Trump using all the RNC money
- 22:45for his legal bills will affect down ballot election campaign finances? Maybe less Republicans
- 22:49getting elected. I won't hold your breath on that. I don't see that
- 22:53in the state of West Virginia. First of all, I mean that's all
- 22:56federal level anyway. Second, I mean most of the money you're seeing right
- 23:03now come in as coming in for the US Center race, and Justice probably
- 23:08doesn't have as much money as Moody. We'll know for sure, probably next
- 23:14week. I think it's when the federal reports are due. But it's one
- 23:17of those situations where I'd be really surprised if any of that affects West Virginia's
- 23:23races, especially in a general election. Yeah, I mean, and I'm
- 23:27gonna if I get time. There is a news story out about Steve Williams,
- 23:32who is going to be he's the Democratic nominee. Of course, he's
- 23:34the mayor of Huntings and actually Mayor Williams is gonna be on Hoppy coming up
- 23:37next hour. How is he doing? I mean, that's what's interesting to
- 23:42me. I would think, knowing that you are the only candidate, Democratic
- 23:47candidate, that you would be using this time to fundraise because if you end
- 23:52up, let's say you end up against Morrissey, we already know what type
- 23:56of bank he's going to have going into the general election most likely. So
- 24:00Williams only raised about seventeen thousand dollars for the quarter. He's only raised about
- 24:04twenty six thousand election year to date, and he's got twenty one thousand dollars
- 24:08in cash on hand. That's not a lot. And maybe he's just waiting,
- 24:12But I would not be waiting to be raising money right now. And
- 24:15I know it's hard for Democrats all over the place, but he needs to
- 24:18get on it. Maybe they're going to I know that that family has money
- 24:22between the brothers, so maybe they'll chuck in some of their own money closer
- 24:26too. But I mean I would be raising every dollar I can right now.
- 24:30I have said on this show before, with all due respect to Mayor
- 24:33Williams, who's been on this show before, and I think is a good
- 24:37guy, and he is. It's remarkable some of the things that he's done
- 24:40to Huntington when you compare the Huntington of today as when I was a Marshall
- 24:45student in the early nineteen nineties and the city was bankrupt whatever, there's no
- 24:48question Steve Williams, I think is not. I mean, there are problems.
- 24:52My wife says the same exact thing. Steve Williams has done a great
- 24:56job in Huntington. But I still say that, barring any unforeseen circumstances,
- 25:00whoever comes out of that Republican primary, my opinion and opinion only with all
- 25:04due respect to Steve Williams, is going to be the next governor of West
- 25:07Virginia. Yeah, I mean, I think that's true. And I've interviewed
- 25:11him. You've talked to him as well. I think he understands the uphill
- 25:15battle. I think all the Democratic Canadates do. I just talked with Glenn
- 25:19Elliott, Leley Mayor running for US Senator. They understand that the tide has
- 25:23kind of turned, but I think it is remarkable that they are going to
- 25:29give a try, and to be honest, I think, you know,
- 25:32in case of Williams, he's probably the best candidate the Democratic Party probably could
- 25:36have got. Well. And I'll say this about Steve Williams. Steve Williams
- 25:40is he's a Democrat. But if you want to label people as super super
- 25:47liberal, he's not Stephen Smith, you know. So he's a little bit
- 25:51more moderate of a Democrat. And I heard the interview that I read what
- 25:53you did, But I also I heard the interview that Dave Wilson did with
- 25:57Glenn Elliott, and I've had Glenn Elliott on this show as well. I
- 26:00think they're doing a good job of messaging right now and trying to say,
- 26:03look, you know, it's identity politics. If you, as I've constantly
- 26:07said, if you're running for Work County Assessor, you know you're going to
- 26:10be aligned with either whoever the worst Democrat or worst Republican is, because that's
- 26:15just kind of where we are right now. But I think they're doing a
- 26:18good job of those two anyway of trying to say, okay, like vote
- 26:22for me, don't don't worry about don't throw out the name Schumer or Biden
- 26:26or whatever. Let's just let's look at who I am and keep in mind
- 26:29in case of Glenn Elliott, he's got a contested primary, he's got Zachary
- 26:32Shrewsbury, who's very much a progressive in that race. And well, and
- 26:34of course Don Blanketship, who I will be talking to later today, and
- 26:38you're going to be interviewing Don Blankenship. I've had mister Blankenship on the show
- 26:41several times. Let me knock out some text because I know you've got to
- 26:44go, but you got you're a popular guy, Steve, Oh wow,
- 26:48Texas. Not in your own house like Texas. The only way to save
- 26:52our country is to overturn citizens United until anonymous money is rooted out our week
- 26:56in greedy politicians will bow down to the donor who are their puppet masters.
- 27:02I've never really bought into that, to be honest, Like I do think
- 27:04there's too much money in politics, but I've never most people or organizations or
- 27:11political action committees or whatever have you donate to people that they already agree with
- 27:18For the most part, they're not donating in the hopes to sway that person
- 27:22towards their view. They're donating to people that they're already kind of sampatico with.
- 27:27I think. So, I don't know if I've ever really kind of
- 27:30bought the puppet master thing to some extent, but but I do think money
- 27:36certainly plays a real big issue. And I've always said the person with the
- 27:41most money doesn't always win. The person that has no money almost always doesn't
- 27:45win very well. Put Tex says, why is it mac Warner's message that
- 27:49the CIA rigged the twenty twenty election resonating with Republican primary voters. Have you
- 27:55offer saken the big lie? Well, I mean, here's the thing about
- 27:57it. The number of Republicans believe the big lie about the election. So
- 28:04I don't know that that's necessarily hurting Macwarner or the others. Well, that's
- 28:07the thing. I mean, if you already kind of believe the election was
- 28:11stolen and you're all in on Trump, you're probably and I hate to say
- 28:17this, but you're probably already all in on say either Patrick Morrissey, who
- 28:22is very much a MAGA Trump candidate, or you're in with Chris Miller,
- 28:29who also is very much a MAGA Trump candidate. Now, I don't think
- 28:33they've ever gone as far as mac Warner did say in the Hobby w veteran
- 28:38Who's to be back in December and said absolutely the election was stolen. But
- 28:44I do think that if you already believe that there are people that are on
- 28:48the ballot that also believe that that you could support other than Macwarner had a
- 28:53text here as somebody asking your opinion on Steve Williams. We touched on a
- 28:56little bit of anything else you want to say about Steve Williams. I just
- 29:00think that he's got to start putting some money in the end of that race,
- 29:04because if he ends up against Morrissey based on I mean just on this
- 29:08most recent campaign finance report, when you've got that much money coming in from
- 29:14all over, when you've got so much support from Americans for prosperity, when
- 29:18you got money coming in from from Black Bear Pack Club for growth or whatnot,
- 29:22they're literally he's got a street team. I mean, he doesn't even
- 29:25have to pay for a street team AFP is doing it for him. I
- 29:29could wallpaper my house with the flyers I've gotten from him, and I got
- 29:33three in the mail yesterday. Yeah, it's just one. They all went
- 29:34in the trash, not because not because of the candidate, but that's where
- 29:37all the every everyone that comes to my house goes directly in the trash.
- 29:41Candidates just so you know that Steve Willams is going to have to put some
- 29:44money in. That's all I gotta say. Right, all right, so
- 29:47you said you're going to interview uh dog blanket ship. I am got a
- 29:49peace coming out this weekend talking to the Democratic candidates for the Senate because as
- 29:55we we've been talking about the Republican candidates now that are sucking all the auction
- 30:00didn't have the room. There's at least two contested Democratic primaries, once us
- 30:03Senate. The other is attorney general, because you've got Teresa Trresiva Wheeley,
- 30:07attorney, vice chairman of the state Democratic Party, versus South Charleston mayor and
- 30:12perennial candidate Richie Robb. So those are the only two contested statewide races that
- 30:19have Democrats in them. So I'm trying to bring some attention to that because
- 30:23I think they're interesting. Are you going to get a quote from Mike Pushkin
- 30:26about what he thinks about Don Blanketship having the D after his name? Now,
- 30:30I think for this one, there's plenty of time for that. I
- 30:33do mention that in the article I'm writing, but I'm focused on kind of
- 30:37public policy. I want to know why he is running. I do want
- 30:40to know why he's running as a Democrat. And I want to know,
- 30:42Okay, if you're the dog that catches the ambulance, what you're gonna do
- 30:48when you get in there. And that's what I want to know. I
- 30:51mean, I don't think Don thinks he's gonna win. I think Don Don
- 30:53just likes, you know, being the flying the ointment. I think,
- 30:56like, I'm not an anti Don Blankenship GUYO that makes me very popular,
- 31:00But being from Cold Country, I don't agree with everything mister Blankenship does.
- 31:06But I saw a lot of the good things that he did in the communities
- 31:08where I'm from, and there's people down there to this day that would take
- 31:11a bullet for Don Blankenship. I'll be really honest with you. People are
- 31:15complicated, Yes they are. That's Wildlike animals better. All right, So

- 34:37you sir? Oh hi, I'm doing good. And hello to Steven Adams
- 34:43if he's maybe out in the hallway. It's it's fun when we're together because
- 34:47it's the Brad and Stephen Report as short, THEBS Report. But as you
- 34:52said, since you weren't together on the show, mister Adams said the lead
- 34:54because he's going to interview Dandy Don Blankenship today. It's it's it's it's not
- 35:00the b S Report. If you're not together, it's more of a forum.
- 35:02Right, It's a forum. We're just sharing ideas one by one.
- 35:06All right, So what's your take in all the all the finance stuff that's
- 35:09that's out now, Brad? You know important because it is it's a sign
- 35:17of it's one sign of support for the campaigns. You know how much money
- 35:22you're able to bring in. But it's also in this run up to the
- 35:27May fourteenth election a sign of your ability to get your message out that that
- 35:31next Star Emerson poll of a couple of weeks ago showed almost thirty percent undecided
- 35:38in you know, the highest profile race of the statewide races, the governor's
- 35:45race, and point that is a lot that the potentially could move one way
- 35:49or another in these final weeks. And this money is an opportunity to reach
- 35:52out to those people and get those late deciders. And you know, what
- 35:58I saw shows that Morris is a bit ahead on that fund raising, that
- 36:02Capito has more than a million dollars available, a significant amount of money.
- 36:07And Chris Miller continues to be able to rely upon his own money. He
- 36:15didn't raise a lot, but has millions of dollars of Chris Miller Mundy money
- 36:20available to him. Of the four name brand top candidates, as you guys
- 36:25said, the one that is on the outside looking in of that fund raising
- 36:30with less ability to move up and grab some of that thirty percent undecided,
- 36:36it's it's Mac Warner, the two term Secretary of State. He's got a
- 36:38track record of winning statewide elections. As you guys described, his family is
- 36:45very involved in politics. I mean, if you're out there in West Virginia,
- 36:49you know one of the warners. Yeah, and Chris is on the
- 36:52ballot too, so you know, for whatever reason, there has not been
- 36:57a fund raising support for Max campaign been there for the others well. And
- 37:01I think it's very important, and sometimes I don't do a good enough job
- 37:04of bringing this up. I think we're talking to Brad Macklhenny. Is the
- 37:07fact that thirty percent, as you said, thirty percent or so are still
- 37:09undecided in this race, and we're kind of some people are already saying,
- 37:15well, it's it's it's Morris Caesar or other people are saying, well it's
- 37:16Capitals whatever, because still got thirty percent of the electorate that's undecided. And
- 37:21sometimes I me, me, Dave probably needs to do a better job of
- 37:24explaining that to people and reminding people that you're still a great number of Brad
- 37:28that are still undecided. In second place on that how much money to undecided
- 37:34raise? The undecided has has strong support with no spending whatsoever. So undecided
- 37:43really is booking expectations going above and beyond undecided. It is your dark horse

- 37:59Bro, I don't want to get your take on this story, and
- 38:00you have a story posted about it. You posted a story if the website
- 38:05is correct, at twelve forty seven am this morning, proving that the news
- 38:07never sleeps. It has to do with candidate for Attorney General and current state
- 38:13Senator Mike Stewart. He was just on the show last week. The wife
- 38:16of State to Trooper Corey Mayner, the trooper who was tragically killed on the
- 38:22job last June in an ambush in Mingo County. His widow has taken issue
- 38:27with Mike Stewart speaking publicly and about saying certain things that, in her words,
- 38:32have not been put out there to the public because they do have a
- 38:35trial coming up. Rachel Maynard is her name, and again you get the
- 38:38story posted on the website. She's saying that Mike Stewart is talking about things
- 38:44that have not been made public, and what I gathered from that is is
- 38:46that it could somehow jeopardize the trial, which is going to happen in September.
- 38:52She in effect thinks that Mike Stewart has been using her husband's death to
- 38:54score campaign points, and she says that she's reached out to him on a
- 39:00couple of cases and asked him to stop. He says, for his part,
- 39:04his comments were consistent with his working hard to try to get the death
- 39:07penalty for anyone convicted of killing a first responder. Now, we had this
- 39:13story that came out last week that the Mingo County Deputy Sheriffs Association had endorsed
- 39:19or it's in a letter of support for Senator Stewart, which they in turn
- 39:23rescinded because of these comments. What do you make of this whole story,
- 39:31brad Well? So, first, let me take care of some housekeeping.
- 39:37I was up at twelve thirty in the morning with a bucking dog, but
- 39:40I did not post the story. Okay, Well, Jeff Jenkins was doing
- 39:45the challenging work of trying to keep the story near the top of our website,
- 39:50got it so that it was not swamped by sports updates, got it?
- 39:53I understand. However, you know, in general, I would say
- 39:58that politically this is not an old political axiom, but you do not want
- 40:02to be in the position of having a the grieving wife of a slain trooper.
- 40:10You That is not typically an advantageous political position, but it's the one
- 40:17that Senator Mike Stewart, candidate for Attorney General, finds himself in. Oh
- 40:25boy, so let me let me roll back and take the broad picture here
- 40:30for just a minute. As you mentioned, Senate persona Mike Stewart has been
- 40:38promoting a policy of the death penalty for people accused of killing first responders.
- 40:46And he has provided, you know, unfortunately for all West regimes, several
- 40:52examples of situations where that might apply. One of them, and among the
- 40:59most heart is Sergeant Corey Maynard, who was a state police trooper who was
- 41:07summoned to a report of a shooting in Mingo County. He and the other
- 41:12responders were, in the words of the state police, ambushed. Stewart has
- 41:16used that the way that story touches your heart to make the argument for death
- 41:27penalty policy. It is it is hard to separate his advocacy for that policy
- 41:32though from his current campaign for attorney general, I mean, politics doesn't have
- 41:39meat cutoff points, and it even though he was making that argument in his
- 41:45in his position as a state senator, he's running for attorney general. Also,
- 41:52the concern that Maynard, the wife of Corey Maynard, has raised is
- 42:00is that at least two occasions, she believes Stewart provided information about the last
- 42:07moments of Sergeant Cory Mayner's life that were not yet public. And from there
- 42:14there are a couple of concerns. One is that there is still a trial
- 42:19process, the trial for the accused, except for this September, to release
- 42:24things that are not yet public that might be part of the evidence, part
- 42:30of the criminal record, you know, a big no no. And the
- 42:34other is that you know, she's got a couple of kids that she's she's
- 42:37now on her own trying to raise that they're all going through a lot emotionally,
- 42:43and she wants to protect her kids from graphic details about what their father
- 42:51faced. I know what those details were at this point. One one that
- 42:58it was the same set of details. One was described on television, the
- 43:02other was briefly described, and then Senator Stewart cut himself off while on the
- 43:07Senate floor making a speech about the death penalty policy. She has warned him
- 43:13all along that he's getting too close the sensitive areas of what the family is
- 43:20going through in terms of the trial and in terms of their emotional recovery.
- 43:24And her view is that he has continued to use the case of Sergeant Maynard
- 43:31for political benefit, and it reached an inflection point last week when briefly Senator
- 43:38Stuart got the endorsement of you know, it was an endorsement that most of
- 43:44us wouldn't have paid attention to. It was the Mingo County Deputy Sheriff's Association
- 43:49endorsed him for about a day and then got back from people who knew about
- 43:58this ongoing situation. The Mingo County part is significant because that is that is
- 44:01where that's that's where all that took p So the Mingo County Deputy Sheriff's Association,
- 44:12she says, reached out to her, had a discussion within a day,
- 44:15rescinded publicly. Uh. At that point, a lot of media,
- 44:22including w c HS television and others, uh, you know, dialed in
- 44:27understood that this is not the ordinary, that that that the recession of the
- 44:32endorsement with these surrounding circumstances, the story in a high profile race, uh
- 44:39where there was also, you know, frankly a high profile fatal police shooting.
- 44:46Senator Stewart. I talked to him on the phone. He's made other
- 44:49public statements. He says that, you know, his his intent was certainly
- 44:53not to harm the family. He specifically told me he doesn't think he released
- 45:00any information that wouldn't have been public. It's it's worth noting the detail also
- 45:05that he was It's been a few years, but he was. He was
- 45:07the for southern West Virginia, so has experienced in these matters, but also
- 45:15probably hears things. But he says that he he just read news reports and
- 45:20was talking about what he had what he had read. He was in a
- 45:23debate this week. Senator Stewart was with his opponent JB. Mccusky, and
- 45:30you know, in general said he is sorry for what has happened with with
- 45:36Rachel Maynard, the wife of Sergeant Maynard, but then became aggressive in saying
- 45:44that he thinks that this endorsement essentially was set, was a setup. He
- 45:47thinks that the endorsement was made to me to gain attention. I reached out
- 45:54to the Deputy Sheriff's Association, particularly about those claims, wanted to hear more
- 46:00about the process. I haven't heard back yet. They may they may not
- 46:04check their email that often, Rachel Maynard told me. But you know,
- 46:07it is what it is. That they learned about her, reached out to
- 46:14her, heard her out, believed that endorsing under those conditions was not wise,
- 46:22and so they took back the endorsement. And so the entire thing is
- 46:29a mess. It's not where you'd want to be politically, and it's I
- 46:36think everyone's heart goes out to Rachel Maynard in the family and to have to
- 46:42be grieving, to be going through a criminal process, and to find yourself
- 46:52in the center of a heated political battle is not anything you'd wish on anyone.
- 46:57Yeah, and I'll and we'll close with this, Brad this small on
- 47:00X the artist for me known as Twitter, Stuart said, and this is
- 47:07a quote on Twitter. Corruption in Mingo County. Question mark, No,
- 47:12tell me it's not so that could be as Attorney General Rudy not corruption as
- 47:16a chip priority. Too much corruption across West Virginia. I'll have to start
- 47:21somewhere end quote, but basically saying, Okay, if I'm elected, I'm
- 47:27headed to Mingo County. That's basically what he said. Hey, Brad,
- 47:29we're overdue for the break. I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule.
- 47:31Give me twenty or thirty seconds. Where are you looking at today?
- 47:36The governor is having his briefing today and I've got some outstanding questions. I
- 47:40don't mean outstanding like the excellent. I just mean there's a couple of things
- 47:44I want to know about. All right, all right, Brad, all
- 47:47right, quote unquote noonish, all right, Brad. I appreciate it.
- 47:51Man, Thanks a lot. It is nine to fifty five back after this.

- 49:49A ton of texts to get to this morning tech says, going back to
- 49:53the campaign finance stuff, Yes, there's absolutely nothing wrong with anonymous, Russian,
- 49:58Chinese or Saudi money influencing American elections. Nothing to see here, says
- 50:02a Texter Texas is Mike Stewart is such a great legal mind that he's jeopardizing
- 50:07the Maynard case with his words. He also has the ire of the widow.
- 50:10What a great man and candidate for ag That was sarcasm, Dave,
- 50:15says a Texter Texas warner is losing talked about Mike Warner because he's sold is
- 50:23sold to the devil by claiming that the CIA stole the election. Normal people
- 50:27know that kind of talk is dangerous and foolish and they're not going to vote
- 50:30for looney ideas like that. Max political career career is over, and it's
- 50:35over because he bought into the lies, says a Texter. Uh, Texas
- 50:40politicians are supposed to shake hands a kiss babies. Mike Stewart at taxt Widows
- 50:44blames cops are playing politics, insults everyone he meets, and is generally unlikable.
- 50:47It seems like a perfect candidate for today's Republican party, it says a
- 50:52Texter. Texasid Republicans need to vote for Brian Wood for Secretary of State.
- 50:55Doug scaff is a flaming liberal. Chris Warner is really a madman in suit.
- 51:00Since a Texter on Steve Williams Texas, Steve Williams is West Virginia's rainbow

- 51:30Dave, I'm an independent voter and I will not support anyone that agrees that
- 51:34our veterans are suckers and losers and our election was stolen. All three leaders
- 51:37in the Republican race, all three of the leaders in the Republican race agree
- 51:42with this. I will stand with women and Mayor Williams for Governor Texas,
- 51:46Dave, This is so normal for the MAGA cult. Just listened to Trump
- 51:50and what he says about people Texas. Mike Stewart's tweet doubling down a Mingo
- 51:55county and promising to weaponize the AG's office for political purposes is a page right
- 52:00out of Daryl McGrath's playbook. If Stewart isn't careful, he'll end up in
- 52:02the sequel of Alan Waffrey's book on West Virginia corruption. That is, if
- 52:06he writes a sequel after his prison sentence. All right, we gotta go.
