- 1:36Speaker 5: That has been a joke of mine since early January,
- 1:40Speaker 5: but it it's getting close to being true.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It really really is.
- 1:44Speaker 5: All right now, speaking of the weather, it's going to
- 1:46Speaker 5: be a stormy Wednesday here in the valley and all
- 1:47Speaker 5: across the state of West Virginia. You get to that
- 1:49Speaker 5: in a little bit. Political political strategist Greg Thomas is
- 1:52Speaker 5: going to join us closing day of the legislature. We'll
- 1:55Speaker 5: get a closing days I should say, we'll get Gregg's
- 1:57Speaker 5: take on that, including some big time just ushs about
- 2:00Speaker 5: tax cut's going to bring in my guy, Woody Woods
- 2:03Speaker 5: from her sister station one O seven three The Beat.
- 2:05Speaker 5: If you've been listening to the Beat of the last
- 2:08Speaker 5: few days, you may have noticed a few subtle changes.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Certainly you've noticed the name change, or at least it's
- 2:13Speaker 5: still the Beat, but the moniker, as we called into business,
- 2:15Speaker 5: So Woody Broadcasting Hall of Famer what he was. We'll

- 2:23Speaker 5: We'll get into that, and we're also going to introduce
- 2:26Speaker 5: you a candidate for mayor in the city of South Charleston.

- 2:36Speaker 5: Text three zero four nine three five five zero zero.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Do you want to start with the weather though? Welcome
- 2:41Speaker 5: in Metro News Meteorologist Brian Hughes, Good morning, sir, Welcome
- 2:44Speaker 5: to the show.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Well it's going to be here, but I'd rather be
- 2:47Speaker 2: talking about Sonny in seventy five.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Okay, So what is the temperature?
- 2:50Speaker 1: Now?
- 2:50Speaker 5: Let's where are we right now it's it is sixty
- 2:54Speaker 5: nine here in Charleston. So I've been saying, sonny in
- 2:57Speaker 5: seventy five sixty nine not very sunny. But we got
- 3:01Speaker 5: some at least some weather concerns today, Brian.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we do.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I mean listen with temperatures right now in the seventies
- 3:08Speaker 2: across the board, some upper sixties, but mostly seventies, and
- 3:12Speaker 2: looking all the way back to Louisville, it's seventy two degrees.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It's seventy and seventy two and pike ful, we've got
- 3:18Speaker 2: seventy one Charleston, sixty three up into Elkins. But here's
- 3:22Speaker 2: what's going to happen at Temperatures as we start this
- 3:26Speaker 2: morning like this are not a good sign, especially in
- 3:30Speaker 2: the month of March. So we have this Morshit's coming
- 3:33Speaker 2: in from the Gulf of Mexico. We've got a massive
- 3:35Speaker 2: cold air mass. It's up across the Midwest and upper
- 3:38Speaker 2: Midwest Great Plains. The collision of the drier cold air
- 3:44Speaker 2: and the very warm, moist air means severe weather is
- 3:47Speaker 2: most like thunderstorms for sure, but severe weather is going
- 3:49Speaker 2: to be likely because at the surface we have the
- 3:52Speaker 2: winds that are moving in one direction and middle levels
- 3:54Speaker 2: they are moving to a different direction in the upper
- 3:56Speaker 2: levels also a different direction that's called turning with height.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That is conducive, that's what I always call it exactly,
- 4:03Speaker 2: but that is conducive to severe thunderstroms developing. And we
- 4:07Speaker 2: were looking at probably a midday round, so a mid
- 4:10Speaker 2: early to mid afternoon, and I expect probably a tornado
- 4:14Speaker 2: watch to be issued, if not by the lunch hour,
- 4:17Speaker 2: by maybe one o'clock in the afterna watch not a warning,
- 4:19Speaker 2: that is correct, tornado watch, because we have a tornado
- 4:21Speaker 2: watch right now that's in effect from Evansville, Indiana, to
- 4:24Speaker 2: Louisville back up to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dayton is included
- 4:27Speaker 2: in that. They're looking at expanding that up to Columbus,
- 4:30Speaker 2: maybe near Akron. So that is that watch goes till noon,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and then the extension of it will be most likely happening.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Then we'll get a tornado watch in the afternoon, midday
- 4:40Speaker 2: to afternoon for our area, and that could be a
- 4:43Speaker 2: one o'clock to maybe eight o'clock in the evening tornado watch,
- 4:47Speaker 2: but it will be it will encompass most of West Virginia,
- 4:50Speaker 2: but for us, we'll get a midday most likely round
- 4:53Speaker 2: of a couple of thunderstorms, some of the strongest severe,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and then we have the five to eight o'clock in
- 4:58Speaker 2: the evening time frame that we could get another round.
- 5:02Speaker 2: All threats are on the table. If we get a
- 5:04Speaker 2: thunderstorm midday that moves through, you have a very heavy rainfall,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you get another storm later on after that, that would
- 5:11Speaker 2: be the flash flooding potential, But these things are going
- 5:14Speaker 2: to be moving in a pre decent rate, so the
- 5:16Speaker 2: flash flood threat is low. The large heil threat is
- 5:21Speaker 2: probably about a medium to moderate risk, damaging wind is
- 5:25Speaker 2: at a moderate risk, and the tornado threat is a
- 5:28Speaker 2: low to moderate risk.
- 5:30Speaker 5: So so the biggest one I'm hearing you say is Brian.
- 5:32Speaker 5: The biggest threat for here in the Canal Valley more
- 5:35Speaker 5: likely would be high winds.
- 5:36Speaker 2: High winds is a primary threat, but largehill is also
- 5:39Speaker 2: on the table. And then the isolated tornado threat, and
- 5:42Speaker 2: tornado gets everybody paying attention, and we tried not to
- 5:47Speaker 2: use that language unless it's there. We have a two
- 5:50Speaker 2: percent and five percent risk across our region for tornado threats.
- 5:53Speaker 2: When we get a two percent, you might see one
- 5:56Speaker 2: pop up. But when we get a five percent risk.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Generally speaking, we had the conditions are favorable, and we
- 6:02Speaker 2: generally see tornado warnings issue.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Across parts of our region.
- 6:05Speaker 5: And that's for almost all West Virginia. Okay, So our
- 6:07Speaker 5: timeframe is, you say, midday, we'll probably get a thunderstorm
- 6:10Speaker 5: that'll roll through. Then it may clear out for a
- 6:13Speaker 5: little bit, and then and then if we get sun
- 6:16Speaker 5: that's not necessarily a good thing.
- 6:17Speaker 3: By o'clock.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Yeah, if we get sunshine, we and I say this,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you might not see the sunshine here. But let's say
- 6:25Speaker 2: if Pike full or Wyomy McDowell counties they get sunshine. Uh,
- 6:30Speaker 2: you know that's a threat to us because that all
- 6:33Speaker 2: the energy that destabilization will get transported for transported further
- 6:37Speaker 2: north intor.
- 6:38Speaker 5: So, give me an approximate time frame when we could
- 6:40Speaker 5: see the severe weather this evening, as you said, no.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I think I think that could be around six o'clock
- 6:45Speaker 2: to eight. But you know, we've got to watch for
- 6:48Speaker 2: the one two o'clock time frame the first one, yep,
- 6:51Speaker 2: and then we have to watch for the five to
- 6:53Speaker 2: seven eight o'clock collectively across the region because they'll be
- 6:57Speaker 2: moving a decent clip and they'll be most likely aligned.
- 7:00Speaker 5: For that second round of showers in store. All right, well,
- 7:03Speaker 5: we'll keep you updated throughout today. And if you don't
- 7:05Speaker 5: follow Brian Hughes on Facebook, make sure you do. He's
- 7:07Speaker 5: got pretty maps and everything on there.
- 7:09Speaker 4: I try to make it as pretty as possible.
- 7:10Speaker 5: All Right, Meteorleig is Brian Hughes. I appreciate you being here.
- 7:13Speaker 5: We'll be talking to you on her stations throughout today.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Thanks a lot. Ye're welcome. But Dave Allen Show and
- 7:17Speaker 5: find Vidielive has brought to you in part by Morgan
- 7:19Speaker 5: to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If you're injured,
- 7:21Speaker 5: visit for the people dot com. She wants to be
- 7:23Speaker 5: the next mayor of the city of South Charleston. Her
- 7:25Speaker 5: name is Susan Castorf and she joins us down Studio.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Good morning and welcome to the show.
- 7:29Speaker 6: Thank you very much, Davis, good to see you.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. Why do you want to
- 7:32Speaker 5: be mayor of South Charleston.
- 7:34Speaker 6: I love South Charleston. I am a thirty year resident
- 7:36Speaker 6: South Charleston. It is a wonderful place to be. There
- 7:39Speaker 6: are a lot of things about South Charleston that are
- 7:41Speaker 6: just terrific. But a few years ago I decided I
- 7:45Speaker 6: wanted a few chickens in the backyard, went down, looked
- 7:48Speaker 6: at the ordinance, went down to get a permit, and
- 7:51Speaker 6: that's when things sort.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Of went wonkee wonkey, okay.
- 7:56Speaker 6: I discovered then that they didn't issue permits to anybody,
- 8:00Speaker 6: no matter what their situation was. The city engineer told
- 8:03Speaker 6: me that if they were going to give anybody a permanent,
- 8:05Speaker 6: be me, but they didn't give them out. And so
- 8:08Speaker 6: we went round and around, and the lawsuit was filed
- 8:11Speaker 6: and it was then lost at the Circuit Court, and
- 8:14Speaker 6: I appealed it to the Supreme Court and they upheld
- 8:17Speaker 6: it because the city as soon as the lawsuit was filed,
- 8:21Speaker 6: within a few months, they banned chickens and bees completely
- 8:25Speaker 6: from the city of South Charleston. And so the City
- 8:27Speaker 6: of South Charleston is now up at the legislature and
- 8:30Speaker 6: they are fighting a bill to make the Department of
- 8:34Speaker 6: Agriculture the arbiter of bee keeping West Virginia. So it's
- 8:39Speaker 6: just interesting to me that that's the only municipality that's
- 8:42Speaker 6: up there that's kind of pitching a fit about it.
- 8:45Speaker 6: But that aside, there is so much about South Charleston
- 8:50Speaker 6: that we discovered, you know that the city could do better.
- 8:54Speaker 6: It's not very transparent in what they're doing. You can't
- 8:58Speaker 6: really find out what they're doing the minutes from the city.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Council meetings are not very informative. You can't find out
- 9:05Speaker 6: what happened. You have to go and watch the actual meeting.
- 9:08Speaker 6: And even so, some of those meetings are really conducted
- 9:12Speaker 6: like it's an auction, and it's hard to keep up.
- 9:14Speaker 6: It's hard to figure out what's going on. So the
- 9:17Speaker 6: more that I looked at it and thought about it,
- 9:19Speaker 6: the more I thought, you know, our city deserves to
- 9:21Speaker 6: be able to really thrive. And so I think that
- 9:25Speaker 6: I am just the person to get in there and
- 9:29Speaker 6: dig in, roll up my sleeves and.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Get to work.
- 9:31Speaker 5: What's your by, what's your background?
- 9:33Speaker 6: I was a medical transcriptionist for about thirteen years. I've
- 9:37Speaker 6: been a legal secretary for the last twenty eight years.
- 9:40Speaker 6: The last fourteen of those I have worked in the
- 9:42Speaker 6: public finance sector, so I have worked with bonds and
- 9:46Speaker 6: tiff districts and all that kind of stuff. So I
- 9:50Speaker 6: know how they work. I know who to call, I
- 9:52Speaker 6: know what questions to ask, and I know what to
- 9:54Speaker 6: expect there. So I think that puts me in a
- 9:56Speaker 6: good position to be able to lead a municipality when
- 9:59Speaker 6: it come to borrowing money or doing big projects.
- 10:04Speaker 5: You know, go aheaod, no, go ahead.
- 10:06Speaker 6: I'm married, been married for almost twenty years to the
- 10:08Speaker 6: sweetest man on the planet. Patrick. I absolutely dore you, sweetheart.
- 10:13Speaker 5: I'm usually I have to tell I don't want to,
- 10:15Speaker 5: you know, be a discriminatory toward guys, But usually I
- 10:20Speaker 5: have guys on the show and I have to I
- 10:21Speaker 5: have to kind of push them along to say things
- 10:23Speaker 5: like that include include your wife. But you jumped right
- 10:25Speaker 5: up there, I mean, you know, and thank your husband,
- 10:27Speaker 5: so guys could probably learn from you.
- 10:28Speaker 6: My husband is all that makes me great.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Oh okay, all right then all right then, So South
- 10:36Speaker 5: Charleston is an area and you would admit as being
- 10:39Speaker 5: a long time resident that has a lot of things
- 10:40Speaker 5: going for it. You know, you got the development of
- 10:42Speaker 5: park plays, a lot of growth there, opening Jefferson Road projects,
- 10:45Speaker 5: so on and so forth. Other than the transparency, which
- 10:48Speaker 5: you have an issue with, what else would you like
- 10:50Speaker 5: to see to continue the growth in South Charge.
- 10:52Speaker 6: Well, I think we need, first of all, we need
- 10:54Speaker 6: term limits for our mayor, for our city councilors. And
- 10:57Speaker 6: that's because the mayor has been the mayor for eighteen years.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Nothing wrong with that, but I think it's time for
- 11:03Speaker 6: some new ideas. It's time for some new points of view.
- 11:06Speaker 6: And I think that it would be great to limit
- 11:09Speaker 6: the terms to two, which means that you work hard
- 11:12Speaker 6: to get in office, and then you work hard to
- 11:14Speaker 6: get re elected, and then you give someone else a chance.
- 11:17Speaker 6: That would also encourage our citizens to get more involved
- 11:21Speaker 6: in their local government, which I think is always a
- 11:23Speaker 6: good idea. I think we need to better support our citizens.
- 11:27Speaker 6: We have a neighborhood that is having constant trouble with
- 11:30Speaker 6: the water main. It's breaking. I mean, the lady that
- 11:34Speaker 6: I spoke with was telling me almost every other week
- 11:38Speaker 6: they're having water main breaks and that's been that way
- 11:41Speaker 6: for years. And it took her going to the PSC
- 11:45Speaker 6: to help them devise a plan to then talk to
- 11:47Speaker 6: the West Virginia American Water who then called the mayor
- 11:49Speaker 6: of South Charleston, who then did something. So I think
- 11:52Speaker 6: that our government and our city to make it thrive,
- 11:57Speaker 6: we really need more proactive risk management. Then we do
- 12:03Speaker 6: reactive correction.
- 12:06Speaker 5: How's your campaign been so far, it's been great. Have
- 12:08Speaker 5: you ever run for office before.
- 12:09Speaker 6: I've never run for office.
- 12:10Speaker 5: I've never learning experienced.
- 12:12Speaker 6: It is a big learning experience. I've never wanted to
- 12:15Speaker 6: run for office. I am absolutely not a politician. I
- 12:18Speaker 6: am a very much a team player. I want everybody's
- 12:21Speaker 6: views on the matter. I want to hear what people
- 12:23Speaker 6: have to say because I know I don't know everything,
- 12:27Speaker 6: and that's that I think is the best thing you
- 12:30Speaker 6: can know about yourself is that you don't know everything.
- 12:33Speaker 7: So I.
- 12:36Speaker 6: Love South Charleston. I think it's interesting to me that
- 12:39Speaker 6: when you tell someone you live in South Charleston, almost
- 12:41Speaker 6: always the first thing they say is, you know you
- 12:44Speaker 6: get your trash picked up twice a week. And that's
- 12:46Speaker 6: certainly true, and that's certainly something that wouldn't change. But
- 12:50Speaker 6: we have things we can do. I think we need
- 12:52Speaker 6: more festivals to bring more of those tourism dollars in.
- 12:55Speaker 6: I think we need to make sure that the logistics
- 12:57Speaker 6: that we offer in South Charleston are first rate, and
- 13:00Speaker 6: that's road, rail and river. Those things need to be
- 13:04Speaker 6: upgraded to make sure that we can offer something to manufacturers.
- 13:07Speaker 6: We need manufacturing jobs in there that will offer wages
- 13:10Speaker 6: that are more than minimum wage. Minimum wage is great,
- 13:13Speaker 6: but it's hard to raise a family. You know, you
- 13:15Speaker 6: can't do it on a minimum wage job unless you
- 13:17Speaker 6: have more than one. And we don't want that for
- 13:19Speaker 6: our families. We want our families to be able to
- 13:21Speaker 6: work and enjoy their time together. So we need those
- 13:24Speaker 6: kinds of things. We need to better market our city.
- 13:28Speaker 6: I don't understand why we don't have an almost Heaven
- 13:31Speaker 6: Swing at the Mound. That is a historical landmark, and
- 13:33Speaker 6: we should have one. I don't know why we don't.
- 13:35Speaker 6: We need to be in the in the guidebooks. We
- 13:37Speaker 6: need to be in the tour sites. We need to
- 13:39Speaker 6: be on the websites. We need to better market our
- 13:42Speaker 6: businesses so people know what businesses we have in South Charleston.
- 13:45Speaker 6: There's a lot of talk about all three hundred and
- 13:47Speaker 6: eighty two businesses have been licensed in South Charleston, and
- 13:50Speaker 6: that's true, but you don't know what they are. There's
- 13:52Speaker 6: no place, there's nowhere to find out that information. So
- 13:56Speaker 6: the accessibility to that information is really paramount. It needs
- 13:59Speaker 6: to be on our city website.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Talking to Susan Castorf again, who is a candidate for mayor,
- 14:04Speaker 5: in the city at South Charleston. You have a website
- 14:05Speaker 5: or social media.
- 14:06Speaker 4: I have a.
- 14:07Speaker 6: Website, It's www dot Susan the number four scmayor dot com,
- 14:14Speaker 6: and I'm on Facebook at Friends of Susan Castorf.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Final thirty. Why should someone vote for Susan Castor from
- 14:21Speaker 5: mayor of South Charleston.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I will be in my office forty hours a week
- 14:24Speaker 6: or more. I work hard. I want to listen to
- 14:27Speaker 6: what you have to say. I want South Charleston to thrive,
- 14:31Speaker 6: and I want my neighbors to have the help that
- 14:33Speaker 6: they need when they need it.
- 14:34Speaker 3: I want us to.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Work excuse me, I want us to work together to
- 14:38Speaker 6: make South Charleston absolutely the best that it can be.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Appreciate you being here, Good luck with the campaign.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Thank you so much.
- 14:44Speaker 5: I appreciateating Castorf again. Who is a candidate for mayor

- 15:21Speaker 9: Bobby Spratt and last year we purchased a new HVAC
- 15:24Speaker 9: system from Best Virginia Heating and Cooling. During the inspection
- 15:27Speaker 9: of our old unit, their technician discovered a crack in
- 15:30Speaker 9: the heat exchanger that was slowly leaking carbon monoxide into

- 16:25Speaker 10: being served a rap that was just a snack by

- 17:33Speaker 5: Of course, the session will wrap up at midnight on Saturday.

- 17:38Speaker 5: later on. Also, if you've listened to our sister station
- 17:41Speaker 5: one oh seven three to beat here lately, they've got
- 17:43Speaker 5: a few minor changes. Now, don't get me wrong, they're
- 17:45Speaker 5: not switching the beat to Polka or anything like that,
- 17:48Speaker 5: but there's a few minor changes here there. Woody Woods,
- 17:51Speaker 5: West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame with the guy at
- 17:54Speaker 5: the Beat is scheduled to join us coming up a
- 17:55Speaker 5: little bit later on as well. Greg Thomas is here.
- 17:58Speaker 13: Hey doing my friend and well, well, busy busy working,
- 18:03Speaker 13: all right.
- 18:04Speaker 5: We got so we got just a couple of days left.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I wasn't I wasn't.
- 18:09Speaker 13: Overly busy at the session because, like I work with
- 18:12Speaker 13: clients that try to do positive things for the state,
- 18:15Speaker 13: So we didn't have a lot of interaction with this legislature.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Your to do list, Gregory, wasn't very big, is that?
- 18:22Speaker 13: I mean you just pretty much had to like see
- 18:24Speaker 13: if you were going to have to play defense and
- 18:26Speaker 13: like try to you know, knock something out that wasn't
- 18:29Speaker 13: going to help the state. This session hasn't been as bad.
- 18:32Speaker 13: The last one really was the worst session ever. I
- 18:34Speaker 13: mean last year was absolutely terrib.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Said a lot of ground.
- 18:37Speaker 13: Man.
- 18:37Speaker 5: When you say the worst section.
- 18:39Speaker 13: It was though, I mean it was, it was absolutely terrible.
- 18:43Speaker 13: And then that's you know, of course, that was the
- 18:45Speaker 13: impetus for the candid recruitment effort to go get a
- 18:47Speaker 13: bunch of people to run against these guys. And I
- 18:51Speaker 13: think by getting all of those folks on the ballot
- 18:53Speaker 13: and that competition sort of checked them and made them
- 18:57Speaker 13: not do as many crazy things this time. Look, you know,
- 19:01Speaker 13: the House of Delegates has done a pretty good job.
- 19:03Speaker 13: They had an economic development package of like you know,
- 19:06Speaker 13: ten or twelve bills or something like that that they
- 19:08Speaker 13: got through. You know, they've been the voice or reason
- 19:12Speaker 13: on a lot of different bills to get some positive
- 19:15Speaker 13: stuff done and stop some of the you know, silliness
- 19:18Speaker 13: that comes over from the Senate to not go through.
- 19:22Speaker 13: You know, in the Senate hasn't been as bad as
- 19:24Speaker 13: last time, but they're still you know, they're just very
- 19:27Speaker 13: big government, right, I mean, they're just you know, they
- 19:30Speaker 13: want to it's all about control for those people, and
- 19:33Speaker 13: they want to get into your business and you can
- 19:37Speaker 13: do this, and we're going to ban that, and we're
- 19:38Speaker 13: going to force the company to sell this or not.
- 19:41Speaker 13: I mean, it's just you know, no local you know,
- 19:43Speaker 13: the Republican Party that that you and I grew up around.
- 19:47Speaker 5: But to be fair, I grew up in Logan County.
- 19:49Speaker 5: There was no Republican Party that I did. There is
- 19:52Speaker 5: now though there is now, But you.
- 19:54Speaker 13: Know, when I started, I mean, I'm the first state
- 19:56Speaker 13: Senate race I ran in West Virginia was in two
- 19:58Speaker 13: thousand and two, and we ran on you know, a
- 20:02Speaker 13: conservative platform. Right, it's a lot of the same things
- 20:06Speaker 13: that people are running on now.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 20:07Speaker 13: It was jobs, it was local control, you know, some
- 20:12Speaker 13: of those things we've done over the last decade, right
- 20:15Speaker 13: until this new group got in got in here and
- 20:18Speaker 13: we passed a lot of positive things. I mean, we
- 20:20Speaker 13: had one of the most conservative state senates in the country,
- 20:23Speaker 13: and and then this last couple of years it's just
- 20:26Speaker 13: really gone off the rails. And you know that you've
- 20:30Speaker 13: got this new wing of the Republican Party that's uh,
- 20:33Speaker 13: you know, it's just not republican in my mindment. I
- 20:35Speaker 13: don't think it's conservative. It's very very controlling. They just
- 20:39Speaker 13: want to tell people what to do. And you know,
- 20:41Speaker 13: the lack of focus on jobs is the thing that's
- 20:44Speaker 13: going to come.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Well, what would you say, though, Greg and I have taken
- 20:46Speaker 5: a little criticism for this because I have said exactly
- 20:49Speaker 5: those words. What you are saying that when you want
- 20:52Speaker 5: more things to come out of Charleston or DC for
- 20:55Speaker 5: that matter, if you want more things to come out
- 20:57Speaker 5: of the seat of government, that's about as far aren't
- 21:00Speaker 5: as away from republicanism conservatism in my opinion, as you
- 21:05Speaker 5: can get. But what would you say to those people
- 21:09Speaker 5: that have told me and they've called me to text
- 21:11Speaker 5: me whatever, so well, you can do more than one thing.
- 21:13Speaker 5: You know, you can focus on the economy you can
- 21:15Speaker 5: focus on jobs, you can focus on foster care, whatever
- 21:18Speaker 5: the case, but still be concerned about fill in name
- 21:22Speaker 5: here when it comes to a social issue.
- 21:25Speaker 3: No, I think you can. I mean I think look,
- 21:27Speaker 3: we did it.
- 21:27Speaker 13: We did it for ten years, right, I mean we
- 21:29Speaker 13: would have you know, the State Senate would come out
- 21:31Speaker 13: and say, Okay, here's the ten bills we're going to
- 21:33Speaker 13: focus on, and two or three of them would be
- 21:35Speaker 13: social issues and seven or eight of them would be
- 21:38Speaker 13: economic issues. And that's how we went about it. I mean,
- 21:41Speaker 13: so it's not that the social issue stuff isn't important.
- 21:44Speaker 13: There's things that come up. Hey, look, we were the
- 21:46Speaker 13: first state to ban trans one of the first states
- 21:49Speaker 13: to ban trans gender surgeries on myners, Like, that's a
- 21:53Speaker 13: good idea. We should have done that, right. But the
- 21:57Speaker 13: problem now, right is like we are a pro life state.
- 22:00Speaker 13: Know we we've banned abortion with the exceptions of rape incests,
- 22:03Speaker 13: life with the mother, And do you know how many
- 22:05Speaker 13: abortions that were last year in West Virginia?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Zero?
- 22:09Speaker 13: So why were there like seven different abortion bills in
- 22:11Speaker 13: this session, you know what I mean?
- 22:12Speaker 3: Like we're at zero?
- 22:14Speaker 14: Right?
- 22:14Speaker 13: Like I do I think it's important, Sure, I do
- 22:17Speaker 13: do I think we need.
- 22:18Speaker 15: To have this.
- 22:18Speaker 5: You've reached your goal?
- 22:19Speaker 3: Ye, Like yeah, I mean if something comes up.
- 22:22Speaker 13: But it's like, you know, we've we've we have constitutional
- 22:25Speaker 13: carry like, like we have a lot of these things.
- 22:27Speaker 13: I think what happens you get special interest groups that
- 22:31Speaker 13: just exist and need to do something right, and so
- 22:35Speaker 13: they come up with something, you know, and then all
- 22:37Speaker 13: of these people running for office, it's like, well, I've
- 22:39Speaker 13: got to cater to the special interest group that needs
- 22:41Speaker 13: something done. And that's fine. You know, I've worked for
- 22:46Speaker 13: different I've worked for you know, associations that have a
- 22:49Speaker 13: specific focus and stuff like that. I have a full
- 22:52Speaker 13: understanding of how that works. But how do you how
- 22:56Speaker 13: do you're a West Virginia and not understand our biggest
- 22:58Speaker 13: problem is jobs in the economy. How do you not
- 23:02Speaker 13: know that? I mean, I guess you wouldn't know that.
- 23:04Speaker 13: I feel like you've never been outside the state in
- 23:07Speaker 13: your life. Maybe you would know because you wouldn't have
- 23:09Speaker 13: anything to compare it to. But with fewer people working
- 23:12Speaker 13: than anywhere in the country, and we have, it's been
- 23:14Speaker 13: that way for forty years, fifty years.
- 23:18Speaker 5: And that's what I'm gonna jump in here. What I'm
- 23:19Speaker 5: saying that is a very good point that you bring up,
- 23:22Speaker 5: because we have heard constantly Greg, and I did the
- 23:25Speaker 5: research on this because I had a guest on the
- 23:27Speaker 5: show that said this, and he tends to be a
- 23:32Speaker 5: little bit more liberal, but he said on the show,
- 23:34Speaker 5: he said West Virginia has had the lowest workforce participation
- 23:39Speaker 5: rate since nineteen seventy six. And he was a liberal,
- 23:43Speaker 5: and what he was saying was he was saying, everybody
- 23:45Speaker 5: wants to blame the Republican Party, this is not a
- 23:47Speaker 5: Republican Well, we've had the lowest able bodied workforce participation
- 23:52Speaker 5: rate in West Virginia since nineteen seventy six. There were
- 23:55Speaker 5: drugs in nineteen seventy six, but it wasn't the opioid
- 23:58Speaker 5: crisis that we had in two thousand and five. From
- 24:01Speaker 5: in that general timeframe, we got to look to something else.
- 24:05Speaker 5: This has been going on for fifty years, Greg.
- 24:07Speaker 13: It has and and I think you know, I was
- 24:12Speaker 13: on TJ and Dave's show there a couple of weeks ago,
- 24:15Speaker 13: and and that we were talking about how the lack
- 24:17Speaker 13: of sort of jobs bills, and one of them saying, well,
- 24:20Speaker 13: you know, why do you what do you think that is,
- 24:21Speaker 13: And I said, well, you know, a quarter of our
- 24:23Speaker 13: state senate's not gainfully employed, like they don't they haven't
- 24:26Speaker 13: figured out a way to get a job for themselves.
- 24:28Speaker 13: How would they be able to figure out how to
- 24:29Speaker 13: get a job for somebody else? And I believe that,
- 24:32Speaker 13: I mean, I think it's just these folks really don't
- 24:35Speaker 13: know how to do it right. And So if you're
- 24:40Speaker 13: a voter out here, right and you're like, well, gosh,
- 24:42Speaker 13: I want I want my legislature to be focused on jobs.
- 24:46Speaker 13: You need to look at your legislative candidates and find
- 24:48Speaker 13: out if you have somebody that's created forty jobs, they
- 24:52Speaker 13: probably know how to do it. Joe Eddie, our guy
- 24:55Speaker 13: up in the Northern Panhandle, he had a business that
- 24:58Speaker 13: had four hundred employees. Right, if you just need to
- 25:02Speaker 13: look at your legislator and say, hey, is this the
- 25:04Speaker 13: kind of person that's been part of a large organization
- 25:06Speaker 13: that had a lot of jobs. Does this person have
- 25:09Speaker 13: an economic development background or whatever? That's what matters that. Look,
- 25:15Speaker 13: if it doesn't matter to you, if you are retired
- 25:19Speaker 13: and you don't have any kids, and you don't think
- 25:21Speaker 13: you're perfectly content with you know, having the worst economy
- 25:25Speaker 13: in the country. And you want to vote on a
- 25:28Speaker 13: social issue and make that your thing, that's fine. But
- 25:31Speaker 13: we know that the majority of people in West Virginia
- 25:33Speaker 13: do want the economy better. Right, we and a growing economy.
- 25:37Speaker 13: Let's go to tax cuts, right, and we're dealing with
- 25:40Speaker 13: tax cuts right now. You know, the House and Senative
- 25:43Speaker 13: both agreed to a five percent tax cut, which I
- 25:47Speaker 13: think is a good thing.
- 25:48Speaker 3: If I were there, i'd vote for that.
- 25:49Speaker 13: I think that I think if they do that, they
- 25:51Speaker 13: probably can walk away from this session kind of salvage
- 25:54Speaker 13: something to say, hey, I got you a five percent
- 25:55Speaker 13: tax cut on the personal when to come tax. But
- 25:58Speaker 13: the but the way we got to the biggest tax
- 26:00Speaker 13: cut in state history a couple of years ago was
- 26:02Speaker 13: we controlled government spending and we grew the economy. Well,
- 26:06Speaker 13: that's not what we're doing now. You know, we have
- 26:08Speaker 13: not been controlling government spending, we have not been growing
- 26:10Speaker 13: the economy. And they're just sort of finding these ways
- 26:14Speaker 13: of you know, using money the remnants of that growing
- 26:18Speaker 13: economy to kind of pay down stuff so that we
- 26:20Speaker 13: can get another tax cut. But if you want to
- 26:22Speaker 13: continue to cut taxes in West Virginia, you're going to
- 26:25Speaker 13: have to control spending and grow the economy, and we're
- 26:27Speaker 13: not doing that stuff. And the biggest way to grow,
- 26:30Speaker 13: the easiest way to grow the economy is to bring
- 26:32Speaker 13: in new business and new workers, and then you tax
- 26:35Speaker 13: those new workers, and those new workers bring students and
- 26:39Speaker 13: you know, and then all of a sudden, you know,
- 26:40Speaker 13: they're paying taxes to pay for new roads. But if
- 26:43Speaker 13: we're going to if we're going to have fewer and
- 26:45Speaker 13: fewer people working in an aging infrastructure and a state
- 26:48Speaker 13: that's really spread out, you know, I know everybody's been
- 26:52Speaker 13: up in arms about the you know, the sixty minutes
- 26:54Speaker 13: thing and the water in southern West Virginia whatever. McDowell
- 26:57Speaker 13: County had a ton of money fifty years again, sure
- 27:02Speaker 13: what like they didn't fix it stuff back then, you
- 27:05Speaker 13: know what I mean? Like you I don't know. And
- 27:08Speaker 13: right now, you know, we've got a gas boom. There's
- 27:10Speaker 13: like things going well where if we weren't pay, if
- 27:15Speaker 13: we weren't continuing to pay for the sins of the past,
- 27:17Speaker 13: things would be going well right now. But we do
- 27:19Speaker 13: have to you know, we're having to rebuild an infrastructure
- 27:23Speaker 13: that was nobody messed with for thirty years in West Virginia.
- 27:27Speaker 13: You know, it's going to take us a while to
- 27:28Speaker 13: catch back up. But you know, my problem with this
- 27:31Speaker 13: legislature is there's no sense of urgency at all. You know,
- 27:35Speaker 13: I think the House gets it, but you know, they
- 27:38Speaker 13: had what ten twelve bills? And I think of the
- 27:40Speaker 13: economic development bills in the Senate's past one maybe two,
- 27:44Speaker 13: you know, one or two. You know, there's just no
- 27:47Speaker 13: sense of urgency at all. And I don't understand it.
- 27:50Speaker 13: I mean, you know, I got eleven year old, a
- 27:51Speaker 13: thirteen year old.
- 27:52Speaker 3: I live here.
- 27:52Speaker 13: I mean, but I do think people look at it like, well,
- 27:55Speaker 13: things are going well for me. You know what I
- 27:58Speaker 13: don't know, man. I mean, if you're in politics and
- 28:00Speaker 13: all you're worried about is your title and your stuff
- 28:03Speaker 13: and things are going well for you, maybe you shouldn't
- 28:06Speaker 13: be involved in.
- 28:06Speaker 5: Let me read a text here says Westfviorginia needs jobs
- 28:09Speaker 5: and workers, and now the legislature trying to pass the
- 28:11Speaker 5: strict or everify law. Barely anyone here wants to work,
- 28:15Speaker 5: and their passing laws to restrict hiring of those who.
- 28:17Speaker 13: Are working they want. But again it's people that have
- 28:21Speaker 13: never been involved in a business people that have never
- 28:24Speaker 13: run a business, people have never employed anybody telling employers
- 28:28Speaker 13: what they need to do. This is all about control
- 28:31Speaker 13: for these folks. I mean, these folks are you know,
- 28:33Speaker 13: I've said this before, you know, and as you know,
- 28:36Speaker 13: you know, I was you know, instrumental in recruiting in
- 28:40Speaker 13: the big campaign to take over the state legislature for
- 28:43Speaker 13: the Republicans back in twenty twelve, twenty fourteen. And back
- 28:48Speaker 13: then we ran, you know, we ran a bunch of
- 28:50Speaker 13: campaigns against big government liberals that wanted to control everything,
- 28:55Speaker 13: took all their money from Democrat trial lawyers, did all that,
- 29:00Speaker 13: and now we have the same thing. They're just Republicans,
- 29:02Speaker 13: you know, and it's the same thing. It's people that
- 29:05Speaker 13: are not that have no idea how business works, trying
- 29:08Speaker 13: to tell business how to do stuff. You know, this legislature,
- 29:13Speaker 13: you know, is doing everything they can to make electricity
- 29:16Speaker 13: cost more, to make food cost more, to make you know,
- 29:20Speaker 13: your insurance costs more.
- 29:22Speaker 5: What are they doing specifically?
- 29:23Speaker 3: Can we get well?
- 29:23Speaker 13: I mean, you know TJ has been all over that
- 29:25Speaker 13: the buill and mandate, the coal use of the power
- 29:27Speaker 13: plant stuff which which everybody in the world other than
- 29:30Speaker 13: the coal you know, other than the thermal coal companies
- 29:34Speaker 13: have come out and said, you know, this is going
- 29:36Speaker 13: to increase your electricity rates. And people here already going
- 29:39Speaker 13: crazy over electricity rates. But why are we why are
- 29:42Speaker 13: our rates higher than anywhere in the country because we
- 29:44Speaker 13: don't have any businesses to pay for it. We don't
- 29:46Speaker 13: We don't have very many people here. You know, there's a.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Team can't would say the math non't math, it doesn't.
- 29:51Speaker 13: And it's not going to get I mean we lost
- 29:53Speaker 13: and look, we've lost what a couple hundred thousand people
- 29:57Speaker 13: over the last you know, ten twelve years whatever it is,
- 30:00Speaker 13: or you know, the last twenty years. And we've actually
- 30:03Speaker 13: stopped the bleeding over the last ten years. But we
- 30:05Speaker 13: lost a couple hundred thousand people that went, but we
- 30:08Speaker 13: didn't lose. It wasn't like a spaceship came down and
- 30:11Speaker 13: like took two hundred random two hundred thousand random people.
- 30:16Speaker 13: There were two hundred thousand people that would be working
- 30:18Speaker 13: that left to go work, right, right, and and so
- 30:22Speaker 13: who was left people that don't work. And so now
- 30:27Speaker 13: you know, you you have to replace those people. You
- 30:30Speaker 13: have to replace them. And and the only way you
- 30:33Speaker 13: can replace them is by growing businesses are here and
- 30:35Speaker 13: bringing in new businesses. And if that is not your focus,
- 30:38Speaker 13: and that has not that has been the House Again.
- 30:41Speaker 13: The House of Delegates had ten or twelve bills focused

- 33:47Speaker 5: the six point seven FM fourteen ninety am Greg Thomas
- 33:50Speaker 5: is here. I want to switch gears for a moment,
- 33:53Speaker 5: and I want to talk about the upcoming campaign, because
- 33:56Speaker 5: once the legislature ends on Saturday night, then all the
- 33:59Speaker 5: House members are some of the Senate members are up
- 34:02Speaker 5: well before we get there. Yesterday there was a the
- 34:05Speaker 5: governor had a press event yesterday and I'm gonna play you, Greg,
- 34:09Speaker 5: just a little piece of audio. You'll be able to
- 34:11Speaker 5: hear it there, and let's just give this a listen.
- 34:14Speaker 5: This sounded a little I use the term adversarial, and
- 34:18Speaker 5: TJ came back and said, well, that's what we want,
- 34:21Speaker 5: is I mean not you know, we want people to
- 34:23Speaker 5: have a little debate, which is true. Just listen to
- 34:25Speaker 5: this comment from the governor here.
- 34:27Speaker 7: Now, I think it's outrageous that here we are at
- 34:30Speaker 7: the end of session, had something that should have happened
- 34:32Speaker 7: in the first week hasn't occurred yet. Terrible on every level.
- 34:36Speaker 7: We may very well pay a price for the delay.
- 34:39Speaker 7: Let me be clearer, we may pay a price financially
- 34:42Speaker 7: for what's already happened. That's outrageous in every way, and
- 34:46Speaker 7: I want everyone in the public to know that. I'm
- 34:48Speaker 7: hopeful that they will because we have to mitigate the
- 34:51Speaker 7: damage from the delay, and we have to make sure
- 34:53Speaker 7: we're moving very, very fast, and I'm hopeful that that
- 34:57Speaker 7: will occur.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Now, that was about ten o'clock yesterday. Of course he
- 35:00Speaker 5: was talking about the battle over budgets and so on
- 35:02Speaker 5: and so forth. Does that I mean, if you're not advising,
- 35:07Speaker 5: you know, nobody asks you to Governor morrisey. But is
- 35:10Speaker 5: that something as that that you think is helpful.
- 35:15Speaker 13: I think there are a lot of politicians in the
- 35:17Speaker 13: country that try to emulate President Trump, and I don't
- 35:22Speaker 13: think anybody else in the country does a very good
- 35:24Speaker 13: job of being President Trump, but President Trump. I think
- 35:29Speaker 13: what Morsey's referring to here actually is that, oh.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Shit, that rural rural Health, Rural.
- 35:38Speaker 13: Health Initiative or whatever that he was was doing.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's what he was saying.
- 35:43Speaker 13: And uh, you know, and I don't know the details
- 35:45Speaker 13: of that. I mean, I think it's I do think
- 35:47Speaker 13: it's something these guys are going to do. I think
- 35:49Speaker 13: that they're just kind of holding it's it's a negotiation, right,
- 35:51Speaker 13: They're like holding it back.
- 35:52Speaker 15: And so.
- 35:56Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 35:58Speaker 13: Morsey just has a different style, right, I mean, I
- 36:01Speaker 13: think he did a relatively good job half of his
- 36:06Speaker 13: job as Attorney General. He did great. The other half
- 36:09Speaker 13: of it, I don't think he did that well. But
- 36:12Speaker 13: the half that he did great was when he was
- 36:14Speaker 13: just out there sue in the federal government and going
- 36:16Speaker 13: after and being adversarial in that way. And I think
- 36:20Speaker 13: that's what he is continuing to do as the governor.
- 36:24Speaker 13: I think there's a time and place for it. You know,
- 36:30Speaker 13: he's gone out and kind of supported some of the
- 36:33Speaker 13: state senators that are running for a reelection that I
- 36:35Speaker 13: don't think are doing a very good job. I think
- 36:38Speaker 13: the best thing that could happen for the governor would
- 36:41Speaker 13: be for the challengers to win, to get new leadership
- 36:45Speaker 13: in the state Senate and just start fresh. I think
- 36:49Speaker 13: that would be the best thing. And I think that
- 36:51Speaker 13: if you because because I think a lot of Morrisey's
- 36:54Speaker 13: agenda are things that the new pro jobs, pro growth
- 36:58Speaker 13: candidates would want to work with them on. So, I
- 37:02Speaker 13: I mean, I see what you're saying. I mean, it's
- 37:05Speaker 13: just his style, his style, Like I mean.
- 37:07Speaker 5: And here's the thing, He's being who he is. Yeah,
- 37:10Speaker 5: you know, he's being true to himself. And that's I mean,
- 37:12Speaker 5: you know.
- 37:13Speaker 13: So it's not I mean, it's but I think I
- 37:15Speaker 13: think if he had a clean slate with a new
- 37:17Speaker 13: Senate leadership team, he would actually be he would have
- 37:21Speaker 13: his most he could potentially have his most successful legislative
- 37:25Speaker 13: session if they started over.
- 37:27Speaker 5: How much turnover do you think that there'll be. I mean,
- 37:31Speaker 5: it's going to be a lot. I mean, I think
- 37:33Speaker 5: I think you're I think in the Senate you're probably
- 37:37Speaker 5: talking about seven or eight new people coming in. You know,
- 37:41Speaker 5: probably a quarter of it'll be new. You know, some
- 37:45Speaker 5: of that's retirements and open Republicans. You there's a couple
- 37:49Speaker 5: of seats that could go could go Democrat. I think
- 37:52Speaker 5: if if Laura Chapman and Wheeling wins her election over
- 37:57Speaker 5: Joe Eddie in the primary, I think she'll get beat
- 37:59Speaker 5: by flu Hardy in the fall, I think I think
- 38:01Speaker 5: we'd lose a seat there. I think the the Olivario
- 38:04Speaker 5: Williams race in Morgantown, I heard a lot of people
- 38:07Speaker 5: talking about that about it will be competitive.
- 38:11Speaker 13: I could see one of the I could see there
- 38:13Speaker 13: being a competitive Knaw County race. Maybe you know, the
- 38:20Speaker 13: Democrats will go after Chris Meller hard down in Huntington.
- 38:23Speaker 13: But Chris works his tail off, you know what I mean,
- 38:25Speaker 13: So he'll he'll he'll get it done. But I think
- 38:27Speaker 13: they'll give them. They're gonna make them work down there, right,
- 38:30Speaker 13: I mean, I think they're going to do that. And
- 38:31Speaker 13: I could see the Democrats here in Kennall County find
- 38:34Speaker 13: in a state Senate race, if especially if one of
- 38:36Speaker 13: the weaker Republicans gets through the primary, I could see
- 38:39Speaker 13: them focusing in on one race and probably making it competitive.
- 38:42Speaker 5: All right, So as the legislature will wrap up at
- 38:45Speaker 5: midnight and then all all the candidates, whether ones you
- 38:50Speaker 5: work with or not, will be all hitting the ground running.
- 38:52Speaker 5: What do they need to campaign on?
- 38:55Speaker 3: Jobs? Right?
- 38:56Speaker 13: I mean I think and I think you're seeing that.
- 38:57Speaker 13: I mean, you know, you know you've got some candidates
- 39:01Speaker 13: here in Kanaw County. Uh, you know doctor Steve Eschenhoer, Right,
- 39:04Speaker 13: I mean he's you know, he's got an unbelieve his
- 39:06Speaker 13: resume seems like it's unreal, you know what I mean,
- 39:08Speaker 13: He's got a great resume that I think he'll be
- 39:09Speaker 13: running on on a lot of different fronts. You know,
- 39:13Speaker 13: Mike jerushe for states that you know you'd ask me
- 39:15Speaker 13: about him and the break and you know Jeruge is
- 39:17Speaker 13: somebody that you know has created forty jobs, right. I mean,
- 39:20Speaker 13: I think that's the thing he's going to go out
- 39:21Speaker 13: there and talk about. You know, Takubo has had a
- 39:24Speaker 13: successful business and you know, been a you know doctor,
- 39:27Speaker 13: well respected doctor in the area for a long time.
- 39:30Speaker 13: I think they're just going to run on their resumes
- 39:31Speaker 13: and say, hey, look, here's what I've done in my life,
- 39:34Speaker 13: in my you know, the real world, and here's how
- 39:37Speaker 13: I'm going to translate that into being an effective legislator
- 39:42Speaker 13: and to change the direction of the State Senate so
- 39:44Speaker 13: we're focused on issues that actually matter to people.
- 39:46Speaker 5: Greg Thomas, it's always a pleasure to have you on

- 43:20Speaker 4: That's the problem.
- 43:21Speaker 5: That's the problem. Here's the thing, here's the thing. All right,
- 43:26Speaker 5: guilty And I'm on ninety eight seventh out the day.
- 43:30Speaker 5: What it is is I mean, last couple of days,
- 43:31Speaker 5: I've had Steve Animal here, had Robert. That's what it was.
- 43:34Speaker 5: I wouldn't go say ninety eight seven of the Beat.
- 43:35Speaker 5: I was gonna say ninety eight seven the Mountain, but
- 43:37Speaker 5: one O seven three the Beat? Yes, all right, we're here,
- 43:40Speaker 5: all right, So you got a great show today. Well,
- 43:42Speaker 5: I really like the lady from South Charleston time I
- 43:44Speaker 5: had one. No, I'm not saying that, man. You know,
- 43:46Speaker 5: I'm a I'm a p one. Listen, Susan Castorf running
- 43:50Speaker 5: for mayor of South Charleston. All right, So the Beat's
- 43:54Speaker 5: been on the here how many years?
- 43:56Speaker 4: Since nineteen ninety nine and it's twenty twenty.
- 43:58Speaker 5: Six and you've been in the parence.
- 44:01Speaker 19: Yeah, they one day ninety in like three months after
- 44:05Speaker 19: Kid Conley and Bill Schanne started it.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Okay, And all those years, the Beat has been primarily
- 44:11Speaker 5: known as how do you do? How would you describe it?
- 44:15Speaker 5: R and B hip hop, A little bit of everything.
- 44:18Speaker 19: We played like today's the hits of today, and we
- 44:23Speaker 19: we did it well. I think we did that well.
- 44:27Speaker 19: Twenty six years in and I've seen the transformation of
- 44:31Speaker 19: hip hop music.
- 44:32Speaker 4: We can all agree.
- 44:33Speaker 19: I think that nineties and two thousand's and the twenty
- 44:37Speaker 19: ten's was a better era of music than when we
- 44:39Speaker 19: got Now, just that's just an old man speaking.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Okay, I don't want people jumping.
- 44:44Speaker 5: On and you're ten years younger than I am, So
- 44:46Speaker 5: there's that. So so the change was made on the beat,
- 44:53Speaker 5: It's not good. Like I said earlier, It's not like
- 44:54Speaker 5: you're playing poker or something. Now, it's not going to
- 44:56Speaker 5: be that big of a change. What's the change.
- 44:58Speaker 19: We're just gonna play the hits from the two thousand
- 45:01Speaker 19: and twenty tens. Now, we gotta play the Bruno Mars,
- 45:04Speaker 19: we gotta play the Nicki Minaj. But the base of
- 45:07Speaker 19: it is gonna be Eminem jay Z, Lil Wayne, fifty
- 45:12Speaker 19: Cent now, a Ja Rule, the songs that kind of
- 45:15Speaker 19: we grew up on, like the and the artist that
- 45:18Speaker 19: we grew up on. We And here's the thing, it's
- 45:21Speaker 19: not like a switch. It's not like a change of format.
- 45:25Speaker 19: We're still gonna be the station in the community. We're
- 45:27Speaker 19: still gonna be the station outside.
- 45:30Speaker 5: Should be back going on.
- 45:32Speaker 19: But we noticed that not going anywhere, not yet knowing okay,
- 45:38Speaker 19: we noticed that once we went from ninety eight seven
- 45:42Speaker 19: to one oh seven three, we needed a big change
- 45:45Speaker 19: there because the station change, it went from a different frequency.
- 45:49Speaker 19: And like you just said, it's still drained in people's heads,
- 45:54Speaker 19: that's ninety eight seven, ninety eight seven, because it's been
- 45:56Speaker 19: drains since nineteen ninety nine.
- 45:58Speaker 4: I still call the WWE w W yeah, because that's
- 46:02Speaker 4: what I grew up with. So we switching the logo
- 46:05Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 46:05Speaker 5: The logo's brighter.
- 46:07Speaker 4: It's uh, it's pretty. I'm excited for this.
- 46:09Speaker 5: So what do you call it? What's the moniker on it?
- 46:11Speaker 4: It's hip hop and throwback?
- 46:12Speaker 5: Hip hop and throwbacks. What are the chances old guy,
- 46:15Speaker 5: really old guy?
- 46:16Speaker 7: Here?
- 46:16Speaker 5: You call yourself old guy? I'm really old guy? What
- 46:18Speaker 5: the chances we could back it up just a little bit,
- 46:20Speaker 5: throwing a little run DMC and okay, but make your class.
- 46:24Speaker 5: I texted you about a year so ago. I'm driving
- 46:26Speaker 5: home and because what he does whatever he wants to
- 46:28Speaker 5: do in the afternoon anyway, and I heard you were playing.
- 46:30Speaker 5: I think it was like it's tricky or something like that.
- 46:32Speaker 5: That's my That was my junior year of high school
- 46:34Speaker 5: and that song came out. Although what's going to say.
- 46:37Speaker 5: What you got to understand is music is ever evolving.
- 46:41Speaker 5: And I tried to explain this to people. I had
- 46:44Speaker 5: talking to my neighbor, who's one of my greatest guys
- 46:47Speaker 5: in the World's attle bit older than I am, and
- 46:49Speaker 5: he says, he's talking about the mountain, you know, And
- 46:52Speaker 5: he says, I hear you. You're on Sundays and you
- 46:54Speaker 5: say classic, but I don't hear Bill Hayley, and I
- 46:56Speaker 5: don't hear Elvis whatever. I get that, and there's a
- 46:58Speaker 5: place for all that. However, music goes in cycles, right
- 47:02Speaker 5: and everything everything. I hate to drop this on people.
- 47:07Speaker 5: Retro right now is two thousand and six. Yes, that's
- 47:10Speaker 5: what retro is. Right now. It's two thousand and six.
- 47:12Speaker 5: Nobody want it, wants to hear that, okay, but it's
- 47:16Speaker 5: on twenty year cycles and it's all you know, that
- 47:19Speaker 5: person that was listening to the music you're talking about
- 47:23Speaker 5: when they were young, their high school, middle school, college, whatever.
- 47:27Speaker 5: Those are the people now that are in their forties.
- 47:31Speaker 5: And that's the people now, that's what we call pe ones.
- 47:33Speaker 5: That's the people that are buying the houses, buying the cards,
- 47:36Speaker 5: so on and so forth.
- 47:38Speaker 19: Country music went through this about five six years ago,
- 47:41Speaker 19: that the music just wasn't good. It is not our fault,
- 47:45Speaker 19: it's not the DJ's fault. We don't make the music.
- 47:47Speaker 19: It's just like you said, to go through cycles, and
- 47:49Speaker 19: sometimes in music's not good. We in a cycle in
- 47:53Speaker 19: hip hop music that is not good. If Kendrick Lamar
- 47:55Speaker 19: wasn't in our format, it'd be hard. He saved it.
- 47:59Speaker 19: At one point. This is wish I was lying. We
- 48:02Speaker 19: was Kendrick Lamar Radio like it was. It was Kendrick
- 48:05Speaker 19: all the time, just because the number one hits he
- 48:09Speaker 19: had and he did the Super Bowl. I mean he
- 48:11Speaker 19: went on tour, the biggest hip hop tour out just
- 48:14Speaker 19: Kendrick Lamar Radio.
- 48:15Speaker 5: All right, and so we want to urge people to
- 48:17Speaker 5: go check it out. No, you're gonna hear some new
- 48:19Speaker 5: voices on there as well. Like I said, you're not
- 48:21Speaker 5: going anywhere, but we've added Logan Scott. Logan Scott who
- 48:24Speaker 5: you also hearing V one hundred. He's doing some stuff
- 48:26Speaker 5: and are we ready to talk about her girl yet. Yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 5: Jessica Martin, you probably see her on Facebook. You can't
- 48:32Speaker 5: mess her on Facebook.
- 48:33Speaker 4: She is everywhere. I just I was watching on Facebook.
- 48:35Speaker 4: She was at the girl's tournament last night.
- 48:36Speaker 5: She left hit her on the show about a month
- 48:39Speaker 5: or so ago, and I didn't even know her, but
- 48:41Speaker 5: I'd seen she was constantly popping up on social media.
- 48:44Speaker 5: And I want, it's interesting to me how the influencers work.
- 48:48Speaker 5: She does, so we influenced. She influenced us so well.
- 48:50Speaker 19: We hoighly hired her, influenced it so good, and we
- 48:54Speaker 19: got another surprise of familiar voice that was on to
- 48:57Speaker 19: beat about fifteen years ago come back off.
- 49:01Speaker 5: So all right, yeah that might happen next week. So
- 49:03Speaker 5: it's good stuff, and we wanted to I heard you
- 49:06Speaker 5: the other day, you know, encouraging people download the app. Yes,
- 49:09Speaker 5: you know, because the days of everybody. I mean, I
- 49:11Speaker 5: know a lot of people listen to us on the radio,
- 49:13Speaker 5: the old fashioned radio in the car, even in their home.
- 49:15Speaker 5: We appreciate that, but most people are listening to it
- 49:18Speaker 5: on some sort of a device.
- 49:19Speaker 15: You know what.
- 49:20Speaker 19: I was taking a shower today this morning, and guess
- 49:24Speaker 19: what I was listening to Dave Allan on that.
- 49:26Speaker 5: While you were in the show wh I was in
- 49:27Speaker 5: the sex Buddy, you feel good about that? The image
- 49:31Speaker 5: I didn't need so, uh. But download the app, the
- 49:35Speaker 5: w v RC Media App. We always kind of drive
- 49:38Speaker 5: people there because it's got all of our stations on it,
- 49:40Speaker 5: and you can literally go to listen to all of
- 49:42Speaker 5: our stations to Charleston. You want to check out what's
- 49:44Speaker 5: going on in Morgantown, it's on there, the w A
- 49:46Speaker 5: j R, w v a Q, they're all on there
- 49:49Speaker 5: if you do, if you download the WVRC, But however
- 49:51Speaker 5: you decide to download it, check it out because I
- 49:53Speaker 5: think I think you're really going to like it.
- 49:55Speaker 19: And I think a lot of people, especially if they
- 49:56Speaker 19: went to the U, they went to WVU, they listened
- 49:59Speaker 19: to va and you can still listen to VAQ. I
- 50:02Speaker 19: listened to VQ. I download the app, I listen to them.
- 50:05Speaker 19: It's it's just a great app to have that Metro
- 50:07Speaker 19: News on there too. Yeah, yeah, Metro News.
- 50:09Speaker 5: I mean the majority of our listeners right now on
- 50:11Speaker 5: w c HS, it's approven fact, the majority of people,
- 50:14Speaker 5: it's not even close that listen to news talk or
- 50:17Speaker 5: sports listen on an app. They don't listen on the
- 50:19Speaker 5: traditional radio. That's where my trust me. If the app
- 50:21Speaker 5: goes out, you know it, all right, So so listen
- 50:25Speaker 5: to the all new one o seven point three the Beat.
- 50:28Speaker 4: Got it? You got.
- 50:32Speaker 5: Seven three to beat, We got new logo, we got

- 51:05Speaker 5: younger than I am, that's all that you have. Meadows
- 51:07Speaker 5: both younger than I am. I'll be forty two in
