  Welcome to The 405 Payroll.
• 0:15
I'm Claire Brooks, and every weekday we take Oklahoma City's live hiring news and
• 0:20
turn it into something you can use before dinner.
• 0:23
  And I'm Miles.
• 0:25
Today's headline goes straight on the calendar.
• 0:27
Monday, October 12, the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and Oklahoma Works
• 0:32
are hosting a multi industry job fair in Oklahoma City.
• 0:35
It runs from 10 AM to 1 PM at Oklahoma Works, 5005 North Lincoln Boulevard.
• 0:41
Three hours on a Monday morning.
• 0:43
Why is that better than another night scrolling job sites?
• 0:46
You talk to hiring managers face to face.
• 0:49
The listing mentions on site interview opportunities, so you skip the automated
• 0:52
online portals where a resume can vanish.
• 0:55
The industries are broad: skilled trades, manufacturing, construction,
• 0:59
warehouse and logistics, healthcare, customer service, finance,
• 1:03
  and IT.
• 1:04
  And it isn't only interviews.
• 1:05
They also list help with job search, resumes, and applications,
• 1:09
and both veterans and the public are welcome.
• 1:12
So you can walk in with a rough draft and walk out with a better one.
• 1:17
Okay, let's put this in rent terms, because that's why we're here.
• 1:20
Say you're making $15 an hour.
• 1:23
At forty hours, that's $600 a week before taxes.
• 1:27
And one of the jobs we'll get to today, a second shift order puller at Hobby Lobby,
• 1:32
is listed at $21 an hour.
• 1:34
  That's six dollars more.
• 1:36
Forty hours of that is $240 more a week, which is roughly $1,000 a month before
• 1:42
  taxes.
• 1:42
One honest note: that's before taxes, so your check will be smaller.
• 1:47
But even part of that can be the difference between a tight month and a breathing
• 1:51
  one.
• 1:52
Totally, and nobody has to be perfect.
• 1:55
A job fair is a place where someone looks at you and asks what shift you can work.
• 1:59
That beats an automated email every time.
• 2:02
What if you work Monday morning and can't get away?
• 2:05
  You have a second door.
• 2:06
The Hobby Lobby Hiring Center in Southwest OKC takes walk ins Monday through Friday,
• 2:12
7 AM to 4 PM, and the City of Oklahoma City takes applications online at okc dot gov
• 2:18
  slash careers.
• 2:20
So here's today's plan: three employers, one training path that can lead to roughly
• 2:25
$29 or $30 an hour, two ways to earn extra money this week,
• 2:29
  and one free local resource.
• 2:32
And if you catch only one thing, catch this: Monday, October 12,
• 2:37
  10 AM, 5005 North Lincoln.
• 2:40
Bring a few copies of your resume if you have one.
