- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's almost Samos podcast. We were here with headlines. There's
- 0:08Speaker 2: not a lot of headlines this week.
- 0:09Speaker 3: It's been a.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Pretty quiet week in Bachelor Nation. But there are some
- 0:13Speaker 2: big headlines, some big headlines that are focused around a
- 0:17Speaker 2: similar topic. To start, we're gonna highlight Gil Ramirez, who
- 0:23Speaker 2: you might remember him from the first episode of The
- 0:26Speaker 2: Golden Bachelorette. And here is the headline. The Golden Bachelorette
- 0:30Speaker 2: contestant to have screen time reduced after restraining order revealed.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Another contesting going into the Bachelor franchise has a restraining order.
- 0:44Speaker 2: There has been one to obtain by people. Ashley, Gil Rimeires.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I remember him obviously from his picture handsome man did
- 0:53Speaker 2: have a little screen time in episode one, was not
- 0:55Speaker 2: a main character. But this has all happened within the
- 0:59Speaker 2: last week. Actually tell us more so.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Yes, he didn't have a lot of screen time in
- 1:04Speaker 4: the first episode, nor will he be playing a big
- 1:07Speaker 4: role in his episodes to come. I don't I think
- 1:10Speaker 4: he gets eliminated early because the show has addressed this.
- 1:14Speaker 4: They said that they are not only does he play
- 1:16Speaker 4: a limited role in the series, but they will be
- 1:18Speaker 4: cutting down his role even further. What happened was the
- 1:24Speaker 4: time between the background check that they do during casting
- 1:29Speaker 4: and him actually going to film the show is when
- 1:32Speaker 4: this whole incident happened. So he got the restraining order
- 1:38Speaker 4: in between the background check being done and him going
- 1:40Speaker 4: to leave for filming, So it's truly slept. It slipped
- 1:44Speaker 4: through a crack. His ex girlfriend was granted a temporary
- 1:48Speaker 4: restraining order against him on June eleventh, only a few
- 1:52Speaker 4: days before the series began filming. A source close to
- 1:57Speaker 4: the show told People magazine that upon learning at Ramirez's past,
- 2:01Speaker 4: the Golden Bachelorette has already edited his limited screen time.
- 2:08Speaker 4: The source also said that the restraining order was granted,
- 2:11Speaker 4: like I said, in the brief period between the completion
- 2:14Speaker 4: of the background check, and they still went through the
- 2:18Speaker 4: exhaustive vetting process with him. But the girlfriend said that
- 2:24Speaker 4: despite telling him not to contact her anymore or come
- 2:27Speaker 4: to her house, he still made repeated, unwanted contact with
- 2:32Speaker 4: her family members and friends. There was twenty five attempts
- 2:38Speaker 4: to contact her in two weeks via phone, text, and video.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Although he lives an hour away from her, he still
- 2:45Speaker 4: showed up at places that she frequented to confront her
- 2:49Speaker 4: on a daily basis.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know, this situation, I guess makes more sense to me, Yeah,
- 2:59Speaker 2: than the the devs. The dev situation we still have
- 3:03Speaker 2: yet to have clarity on at all, because the show
- 3:05Speaker 2: really hasn't came out and said anything towards it. And
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think the reason is because the show realized, Hey,
- 3:10Speaker 2: we messed up and we tried to get away with
- 3:12Speaker 2: one here and it didn't work. Now, for this to
- 3:15Speaker 2: happen between the time of filming and uh when they're
- 3:19Speaker 2: restraining order or when the actual background check was done,
- 3:23Speaker 2: it makes sense how on how it could slip through
- 3:25Speaker 2: the cracks.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I understand this. It was still a psycho.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I still don't understand where and how
- 3:35Speaker 2: they're vetting cast members at this point, and I am
- 3:40Speaker 2: I guess for the show to come out and say
- 3:42Speaker 2: they're cutting screen time is fair. The odd part of
- 3:46Speaker 2: this actually, to me, would be that the show only
- 3:48Speaker 2: came out and said they're cutting screen time once this
- 3:52Speaker 2: was brought to the public's attention.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Correct.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Yeah, But I also think that they probably didn't even
- 3:58Speaker 4: know about this legal issue before it came to the
- 4:02Speaker 4: public's attention, you know what I mean, Like, I think
- 4:05Speaker 4: they probably found out the same time since they had
- 4:08Speaker 4: been already completed their their background check, they probably didn't
- 4:12Speaker 4: go back and check again.
- 4:14Speaker 3: What a wild week for them, I know, these what
- 4:19Speaker 3: an awful, awful week for them.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the fact that this Devin thing comes out,
- 4:24Speaker 2: and I know they felt the heat. They felt the pressure.
- 4:27Speaker 2: What they did with the pressure in the heat, I
- 4:29Speaker 2: still don't know, but they felt the heat, They felt
- 4:31Speaker 2: the pressure from the Devin situation. They realized that they
- 4:34Speaker 2: had to do something I don't know what they've done
- 4:36Speaker 2: at this point, and then probably two days later to
- 4:39Speaker 2: come out and be like, yeah, and a guy that's
- 4:40Speaker 2: currently on your television screens also has this, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: a similar situation probably made them go, what in the
- 4:48Speaker 2: world is happening? Because I do agree with you, they
- 4:51Speaker 2: probably didn't know of the Gill situation because he isn't
- 4:55Speaker 2: a main character. I don't think he lasts very long.
- 4:57Speaker 2: They probably had him come and go and then kind
- 4:59Speaker 2: of forgot, you know, his name even totally.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I also, it's like worth mentioning. It's like stupid, but
- 5:06Speaker 4: it's also worth mentioning. This guy was literally stalking this
- 5:09Speaker 4: woman once he was already confirmed to be on the show.
- 5:15Speaker 3: That's weird. That's weird, the whole thing. It's weird.
- 5:17Speaker 4: But also like, if you're stalking someone at the age
- 5:20Speaker 4: of sixty something, I feel like you must have some
- 5:25Speaker 4: sort of sketchy pass as well. Not that any of
- 5:28Speaker 4: it's legal. I don't want to assume that he has
- 5:30Speaker 4: like other legal issues that they didn't catch. I'm just
- 5:32Speaker 4: saying that, like, probably not a guy that you would
- 5:38Speaker 4: think would be an appealing option to cast, even if
- 5:41Speaker 4: you didn't. I don't know, Like, I guess people can
- 5:43Speaker 4: keep their creepiness secret for a while.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Well, speaking of keeping your creepiness secret for a while,
- 5:58Speaker 2: Devin's apologies about releasing Jen's private text and statement on
- 6:03Speaker 2: Next girlfriends restraining order.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Now, we did cover this in length on.
- 6:07Speaker 2: A separate episode. However, there has been new things come out.
- 6:11Speaker 2: This is provided by Red Banyon, the crisis communication firm
- 6:17Speaker 2: that Devon has hired. So he recognized he was in crisis,
- 6:21Speaker 2: he recognized he was not doing any of this well
- 6:24Speaker 2: on his own. However, he hires this firm. New stuff
- 6:30Speaker 2: comes out. This stuff is not good. It is in
- 6:34Speaker 2: relation to a former friend of his and texts that
- 6:38Speaker 2: Devin sent this friend. I'm excited to not be talking
- 6:42Speaker 2: about Devon any longer, and I'm hoping we can stop
- 6:47Speaker 2: because it feels like every day is a new devn thing,
- 6:50Speaker 2: and it just feels like every day he continues to
- 6:53Speaker 2: pretty much, I mean, he's his whole is as deep
- 6:55Speaker 2: as it can get at this point, like he's dug
- 6:58Speaker 2: a really deep hole, and he just continues to want
- 7:02Speaker 2: to like wallow in it.
- 7:04Speaker 3: It feels like.
- 7:05Speaker 2: But anyways, Ashley, these texts have been released again by
- 7:08Speaker 2: Red Banyon, the communications firm his kind of helping Devin
- 7:13Speaker 2: try to clear his name. Walk us through what these
- 7:17Speaker 2: texts are and kind of just how I mean, I'm
- 7:21Speaker 2: reading them right now.
- 7:22Speaker 3: They're just awful.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Okay, so let's just talk about his So he released
- 7:29Speaker 4: the video in which he showed a whole bunch of
- 7:32Speaker 4: screenshotted texts, some of which the first edition of the
- 7:36Speaker 4: video had some sexual stuff in there between him and Jen.
- 7:40Speaker 4: He went to Instagram to issue the apology with the
- 7:45Speaker 4: help supposedly of the crisis Management PR firm, and in
- 7:51Speaker 4: which he said that the girlfriend who had the restraining
- 7:56Speaker 4: order against him actually ended up dropping it, which we
- 7:59Speaker 4: knew that it was dropped, but he says it was
- 8:03Speaker 4: because they reconciled the relationship afterward, like they started dating again.
- 8:09Speaker 4: That's in the apology. Now, what happened is that reality,
- 8:13Speaker 4: Steve got a hold of a friend of this girl,
- 8:18Speaker 4: the one that sent out the restraining order, and this
- 8:22Speaker 4: is what the friend said. In the spring of twenty seventeen,
- 8:25Speaker 4: Devin was issued a temporary restraining order following multiple instances
- 8:30Speaker 4: of abuse against my friend. This year, he made the
- 8:33Speaker 4: bizarre decision to appear on The Bachelorette despite his well
- 8:37Speaker 4: documented history of violence. After his troubling on screen behavior,
- 8:41Speaker 4: the public uncovered his arrest record, including the restraining order. Yesterday,
- 8:46Speaker 4: Devin attempted to discredit in the said apology his ex
- 8:51Speaker 4: girlfriend and denied the existence of the restraining order, despite
- 8:55Speaker 4: clear public records to the contrary. I refused to stand
- 8:59Speaker 4: by as seeking continues to malign someone I care about,
- 9:03Speaker 4: especially after the pain he caused seven years ago in
- 9:07Speaker 4: twenty seventeen. In April, while repeatedly violating the restraining order,
- 9:13Speaker 4: Devin made threats against his ex girlfriend's friends and family.
- 9:16Speaker 4: I receive disturbing messages from him, filled with hobe phobic,
- 9:20Speaker 4: homophobic slurs and threats of violence. His attempt to manipulate
- 9:26Speaker 4: the narrative is exactly what he did in twenty seventeen
- 9:29Speaker 4: while stalking He has an ex girlfriend burglarizing her home,
- 9:32Speaker 4: burning the restraining order in front of her in her yard,
- 9:35Speaker 4: and slashing her tire and intimidating her friends and family.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Devin's decision to go on national television has forced his
- 9:42Speaker 4: victim to revisit a traumatic chapter in her life in
- 9:45Speaker 4: a public forum. And I will not allow his arrogance
- 9:48Speaker 4: and refusal to take responsibility inflict harm on someone I
- 9:54Speaker 4: care about. Devin is a dangerous individual and a pathological liar.
- 9:58Speaker 4: So then Reality Steve got a hold of the actual
- 10:03Speaker 4: I'm assuming that this guy, poor girl who is sending
- 10:09Speaker 4: who has posted what I just read, sent Reality Steve
- 10:13Speaker 4: the actual receipts of what Devin said, and it says this,
- 10:18Speaker 4: should I read it as I say, and we as
- 10:21Speaker 4: it's said, and we should bleed things out. Sure, Hey,
- 10:26Speaker 4: guess who's getting their frecking licked?
- 10:30Speaker 1: L I c k.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Es next time I see you kicked? Sorry, don't want
- 10:37Speaker 4: you getting confused, see you sooner than you think. Surprise,
- 10:44Speaker 4: someone puts their in that foul mouth of yours. Keep
- 10:48Speaker 4: my and out of that bole, especially when dealing with me.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I think he meant name, keep my name out of
- 10:56Speaker 4: that hole, especially when dealing with me yourself. This is
- 11:03Speaker 4: in twenty seventeen. Ben is covering his mouth.
- 11:07Speaker 3: It's like it's just, uh, it's brutal.
- 11:10Speaker 2: It's like hard for me to even hear because, like
- 11:14Speaker 2: I the only people that I've ever assumed talked this
- 11:17Speaker 2: way are the robots on social media that are just
- 11:20Speaker 2: like built to be mean, Like.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Does that make sense?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Like I've never heard a human, Like I don't know
- 11:27Speaker 2: any humans in my life that would talk.
- 11:29Speaker 4: That way, or if you have heard it, you're like, wow,
- 11:32Speaker 4: that's the most disgusting person I've ever I can't believe
- 11:35Speaker 4: people like that exists. And like you hear it like
- 11:37Speaker 4: on a drunken college campus or something like that, not
- 11:42Speaker 4: that I have any personal I don't. I can't remember
- 11:45Speaker 4: an instance where I heard stuff like that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: But like it's just so hard to even like, as
- 11:52Speaker 2: you're reading it, I just don't.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I can't.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It's so hard to even like understand and compute. Okay,
- 11:59Speaker 2: so it's out there now, right, this is there. Devin
- 12:02Speaker 2: has had now three weeks straight of controversy coming and
- 12:08Speaker 2: then him trying to cover up the controversity controversy and
- 12:11Speaker 2: it being a really failed attempt.
- 12:13Speaker 3: And.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Where like Ashley like, where do we go from here?
- 12:19Speaker 2: Like what do we hope? Like what happens now? Are
- 12:22Speaker 2: we just is it just like a rite off? Like
- 12:24Speaker 2: this is terrible and like I'm so glad she's out
- 12:26Speaker 2: of this relationship and like let's move on, or like
- 12:30Speaker 2: what happens now?
- 12:31Speaker 4: I don't know. I think we just hope that he
- 12:35Speaker 4: never gets attention again. What else would you think would happened?
- 12:41Speaker 2: Well, I'm I'm I guess there's two sides to it.
- 12:43Speaker 2: One would be this was a really bad thing for
- 12:47Speaker 2: him to go on and for the show to let
- 12:49Speaker 2: him on. That is clear, Like let's be clear about that.
- 12:51Speaker 2: He should have never been on this show. The show
- 12:53Speaker 2: should have never let him on the show.
- 12:55Speaker 4: And what and what a dumb ass we're signing up
- 12:57Speaker 4: for the show.
- 12:58Speaker 2: And the other hope is that like he takes personal
- 13:02Speaker 2: responsibility and learns from these things that are coming out
- 13:06Speaker 2: and the reaction of the public being like what are
- 13:08Speaker 2: you doing?
- 13:08Speaker 3: Man?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Like this is like awful behavior, like awful, awful behavior,
- 13:13Speaker 2: so that he actually accepts it and tries to grow
- 13:16Speaker 2: and learn from it. And he does that behind the
- 13:18Speaker 2: scene somewhere and we probably never hear about it or
- 13:20Speaker 2: see it, but he does it personally.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Sure, of course, that's all we hope.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But there's no other like victims and people that he
- 13:26Speaker 2: hurts in this process along the way. You know, this
- 13:31Speaker 2: crisis management firm has been hired that typically is hired
- 13:35Speaker 2: to get you removed from it, like moved on from it,
- 13:38Speaker 2: like clears your name from it. I don't think he
- 13:40Speaker 2: needs his name cleared, like, I don't think that's the
- 13:42Speaker 2: helpful thing for him. It feels like he needs to
- 13:44Speaker 2: sit in this and be like, hey, I need a adjustment,
- 13:49Speaker 2: like I need to do better. And I guess the
- 13:53Speaker 2: hope is that he takes that personally, I don't know,
- 13:56Speaker 2: Like what do we do?
- 13:57Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 13:57Speaker 4: All I would say is that like he's gonna be
- 13:59Speaker 4: going back to his normal job, his normal job. He
- 14:02Speaker 4: supposedly owns the company, So I was going to say
- 14:05Speaker 4: that the only crisis management I can imagine him having
- 14:09Speaker 4: to really get is is the fact that he was
- 14:14Speaker 4: never going to be able to get a job again
- 14:16Speaker 4: after this is out all over the internet. But if
- 14:19Speaker 4: he owns his own company, then like it's like, go
- 14:21Speaker 4: back to your private life and get better in private,
- 14:24Speaker 4: learn in private.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And you know, it just feels like one of those
- 14:29Speaker 2: situations where if we don't, like you don't want to
- 14:32Speaker 2: not talk about it because it is headlines and Bachelor Nation,
- 14:35Speaker 2: it is something that is obviously very traumatizing for many
- 14:41Speaker 2: and it's something that many people are saying, hey, yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 2: but like let me get my voice out there because
- 14:45Speaker 2: he's covering this up and this dude has definitely burnt
- 14:48Speaker 2: some bridges along the way. It just feels like with
- 14:50Speaker 2: a Devin, we could go on for the next two
- 14:52Speaker 2: months and talk about stuff that's going to probably be
- 14:54Speaker 2: released that he's done or said to people, and that
- 14:57Speaker 2: just feels unhealthy to me, Like I don't want to
- 15:00Speaker 2: talk about.
- 15:00Speaker 4: It, So do we not talk about it?
- 15:02Speaker 2: I don't know, That's what that was my question. I
- 15:05Speaker 2: don't know, it's just it's getting hard to yeah, because.
- 15:09Speaker 4: We've already established that he's like a gross human or
- 15:12Speaker 4: like yeah, yeah, so like why do we harp on
- 15:16Speaker 4: it and like give it more attention.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't keep coming out and if.
- 15:21Speaker 4: You're interested in it, then like it's out there to consume.
- 15:25Speaker 4: But yeah, but we don't need to give it any
- 15:27Speaker 4: more of our breath.
- 15:28Speaker 2: It's been the topic that's been most covered from Gen
- 15:31Speaker 2: season since Gen's season. Some of that is warranted, and
- 15:35Speaker 2: I think some of that is healthy. It feels like
- 15:37Speaker 2: it's no longer healthy, like we just we just need
- 15:41Speaker 2: to be like, dude, this is messed up. But like
- 15:43Speaker 2: Gen season doesn't deserve to be marked because she was
- 15:46Speaker 2: an incredible bachelorette, Like we should be talking about her
- 15:49Speaker 2: as an incredible bachelorette. And so she I'm sure she
- 15:53Speaker 2: feels it, but I want her to know it. Uh,
- 15:55Speaker 2: And this just feels like it's a weird mark on
- 15:57Speaker 2: the season. I don't know what to do with this
- 15:59Speaker 2: information any longer, I guess is my point. I sit
- 16:02Speaker 2: here and I go, this is just I'm tired of
- 16:04Speaker 2: every week there being something new and maybe we should
- 16:07Speaker 2: be talking about it. And that's where we bring in
- 16:09Speaker 2: you listeners. Should we continue to talk about it? Should
- 16:11Speaker 2: this be something that week after week when stuff comes out,
- 16:14Speaker 2: do you want to hear about it, or is it
- 16:16Speaker 2: just time for all of us to be like, hey, yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 2: this we've we've established this is bad and we move on.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I don't know, that's my question. Yeah.
- 16:25Speaker 4: And you know what's interesting is like, looking back on
- 16:28Speaker 4: his finale, I just called him a gross human, and
- 16:31Speaker 4: it's like that takes a bit. And I wouldn't ever
- 16:35Speaker 4: call him.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I don't know. I would.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I felt icky, I felt gross watching him on after
- 16:40Speaker 4: the final rows, but I wouldn't say like, he's a
- 16:43Speaker 4: gross human. Except for now we have found out that
- 16:47Speaker 4: he had a restraining order that he violated, and then
- 16:49Speaker 4: he slash retires and then he burnt the restraining order
- 16:51Speaker 4: in front of her, and then he called this person
- 16:54Speaker 4: all these names, and yeah, so now.
- 16:58Speaker 3: It's a whole other.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Let's the headlines we have for you this week. Hopefully
- 17:05Speaker 2: we get some uplifting headlines next week. That'd be good.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Come on, bachel Donation, Let's do something good, Let's do
- 17:12Speaker 2: something cool. Until next time, I've been Ben, I've been Ashley.
- 17:15Speaker 3: See yeah.
