- 0:06Hello and welcome to another episode of What Do You Call It
- 0:10Podcast. I'm your host GB.
- 0:14Today's guest is Captain Peng Peckham, Playboy Hakeem.
- 0:20All the names, all the names, all the.
- 0:22Names that I've left out that you want.
- 0:25I kind of, I have a list of them.
- 0:26So it starts off with the Turkish delight, the talented
- 0:30Captain Peng himself, the Peckham Playboy Akan.
- 0:35Nice, nice. I like the intro there, mate.
- 0:38I'm sure you get that on AT shirt.
- 0:40I'm pretty certain, yeah. A long list on the back of AT
- 0:43shirt. Sweet mate, sweet.
- 0:46Before we discuss wrestling, we've talked about it in
- 0:48privately on Instagram, Arsenal. So what I want to do is open up
- 0:53with you talking about Arsenal this season.
- 0:56We don't talk about the history of Arsenal because we're here
- 0:58forever, but it's national break.
- 1:00It's now taking place. Tell me your thoughts on Arsenal
- 1:04this season. Well, in terms of them as a as a
- 1:08collective, you can see the difference like the match we had
- 1:12the other night where our bench should look just looks
- 1:16absolutely solid like it. I think they compared it to last
- 1:20season where you looked at the bench that we had there and the
- 1:23players coming on, you know, Georginio, for instance.
- 1:27And then you had Zubamendi come on the other day as both the
- 1:30same style of player, but both completely different qualities.
- 1:33And then it kind of showed like when Odegard injured the other
- 1:37day, everyone was like, Oh yeah, bring 1 Yuri on, bring 1 Yuri
- 1:39on. And then like one year he's a
- 1:42absolutely fantastic talent and they bought Zubamendi on and I
- 1:46was like, everyone was like, what was going on?
- 1:47And then to be fair, he played the ball for the goal and he
- 1:50played the ball for the pen. So he didn't do too bad, did he?
- 1:52And I think that's it. I think as a as an Arsenal fan,
- 1:56we've been there there about for the last, what, three or Four
- 2:01Seasons? Growing, growing, growing.
- 2:03And this season you kind of we're probably going to shoot
- 2:06ourselves in the foot because it's like, we've been there,
- 2:10we've been there, we've been there.
- 2:11But this season just, it was different, I think because that
- 2:14squad depth from what they've done to kind of grow as a squad
- 2:20and get rid of, you know, those players that were just hanging
- 2:23on for no reason, which which is good.
- 2:26And then the one thing we needed, which was a striker.
- 2:28And Yokores for me has been absolutely phenomenal this
- 2:31season. Yes, he was brought in for a,
- 2:33for a, for a goal scorer. He's got three.
- 2:40Yeah. And I saw, I saw a clip the
- 2:42other day. Sorry, I'm rambling.
- 2:43You're the guest, man. I'm interested.
- 2:44In myself I saw a clip. The other day, right, there's a
- 2:48Newcastle game. We had Yochares in the middle
- 2:52and he had two defenders on him, OK.
- 2:56And I was like, all right. But you see the image of
- 2:58Yochares with two defenders on him, clearly they saw him as a
- 3:01threat. They saw the fact that he, you
- 3:02know, whatever, whatever. And you know who was three on
- 3:05the right hand side but Kayo Zaka, Yeah, he drew these two
- 3:10defenders away to just let him who you know, if you think about
- 3:13it, seasons have passed, four or five players just ransacker just
- 3:16so he don't get the bloody ball. Like he's doing that and he's
- 3:20doing so much more for the team. And then it's going to the goals
- 3:22will come. I reckon the goals will come
- 3:24easy. Look, the other night he need he
- 3:26scored a tap in due to, you know, when they went down the
- 3:28left and they played it in. It was just inches away from
- 3:30getting another goal. And that's, that's what he
- 3:32offers differently, I feel in terms of what we've had in the
- 3:35past. Sorry, I can just chat.
- 3:37I honestly do agree I do have some confidence issues in terms
- 3:41of him actually being a goal threat that I feel personally
- 3:44might come by Christmas then OK we can judge me a bit more.
- 3:48But as an actual player I think you've nailed it.
- 3:50He is still a threat. They are still marking him with
- 3:53two or three players, but it allows him to free up his
- 3:56teammates like he said with Saka, and then you've got and
- 3:59you've got Trussard and you've got Martinelli and I think you
- 4:02mentioned. Those players just having space
- 4:04and no one around them, It's mental.
- 4:06It's like. It's mental to have those
- 4:08players and I think as they coming in has really given
- 4:11Martinelli Trussard a real kick up the ass.
- 4:15I think like Trossard is fantastic when I saw him last
- 4:17week, like I know ID guard was the start of the show man the
- 4:20match and deservedly so yeah, ultimately, but Trossard just
- 4:24looked brilliant again. Looks like he's up for it.
- 4:26Martinelli he's scoring think he's our top scorer at the
- 4:28moment. If you told me before the season
- 4:30began with all the signings we've just had and you say
- 4:33Martinelli would be top six like top scorer in like the first few
- 4:37months. I probably laugh at you, but
- 4:38it's. Yeah, 100% because that that was
- 4:40it. That was a one year as an
- 4:42Arsenal fan. It was like, you know, he's not
- 4:44quite done that what 2023, that season where he was unreal.
- 4:50Do you know what I mean? He's not rather pushed on from
- 4:52that. So that was what, yeah, I guess.
- 4:54But he's he's not found his place.
- 4:58But coming off the bench being that impact player has been
- 5:01absolutely phenomenal for him because that might give him that
- 5:03confidence to, you know, when he does play or does start.
- 5:06It was just so Eze. You kind of touched on Eze.
- 5:09Like, obviously I feel that at this moment in time, I just
- 5:13think that he's trying too hard because he wants it so much and
- 5:17it's like, do you know what I mean?
- 5:19He's just like. I do get you.
- 5:21Wanting to score, wanting to do that, that's like, yes, that's
- 5:25what I mean. Like you think about the last
- 5:27two or three games, he's had so many chances.
- 5:29He's scored in the League Cup game or whatever that was, but
- 5:33that's because he just took his time.
- 5:34It's just shot, whereas the other ones he's just slashed out
- 5:36because he just wants it. He wants it and he wants it, but
- 5:38it will come. Again, your career is 100%
- 5:40agree. In terms of this time Christmas,
- 5:42you can judge him a little bit more on his scoring.
- 5:44He didn't have no preseason. But his work quite is there.
- 5:48You can see literally he's tracking back as well if you
- 5:51watch as opposed to highlights. OK, he's missed this, you know,
- 5:54whatever, I understand that. But when you do watch him play
- 5:57full time, you see that there is the work rate.
- 6:00He will try and be defenders, but he will also help back
- 6:03defend if he can. And that's quite so awesome to
- 6:06see. Like the playoff is.
- 6:08Yeah, it's actually he's a big lad.
- 6:09Like it's a fucking unit. But I still.
- 6:12But he's. Not too similar, like Kyle
- 6:15Abbott is huge, huge as well, but completely different player
- 6:18and he's like he's not going to hang on that last offender to
- 6:22get through on goal, Jamie, whereas he's just yeah, 2
- 6:26completely different players there.
- 6:27It is what Arsenal needed and you know, have not jinxed.
- 6:31Hopefully I haven't jinxed it in terms of the ending of the
- 6:34season, but I'd like to see. I remember 2000 we won the
- 6:40invincible season. I was, you know, I'm sure my age
- 6:44here. There is a generation of Arsenal
- 6:47fans that just have only seen clips of that, but you know, we
- 6:51got to kind of witness that and then.
- 6:53Went up to hybrid and went up to the stadium with the tour, my
- 6:58friend. And it was, it was phenomenal
- 7:00that that that season and that that era, I shall say.
- 7:04But we're not talking about Odd Arsenal.
- 7:07No, I'm actually going to touch on sort of Arsenal's history,
- 7:10though I'm not going to ask you like trivia or anything.
- 7:12What I want to know from you. It's a fun question.
- 7:14I want you to give me your all time Arsenal 5A side team.
- 7:19You've got to have a goalkeeper though.
- 7:21OK. And also 11 defender if you want
- 7:24to mix up with like 3 midfielders.
- 7:25But you do have to have a goalkeeper though.
- 7:27Give me the goalkeeper. OK.
- 7:29I think Raya, not going to lie, I think he is in terms of you
- 7:34think about a 5A side team, right, You need a player that
- 7:36can play with his feet. Yeah, yeah, Layman was
- 7:39absolutely phenomenal. Seaman was phenomenal in his
- 7:41time. But in terms of 5A side, all day
- 7:44rare, just because he's just, he's so calm and the boy and he
- 7:46can play football and we're talking 5A side, we're not
- 7:48talking 11 a side. Here No, no, no, no.
- 7:49I think that's a really good answer.
- 7:51Now you think I'm like, I probably would have gone to like
- 7:53play Seaman, but because. Of yeah, Seaman Layman, you're
- 7:55going to let. Us say that, but not actually
- 7:57thinking tactics as the manager like hold on, who's actually
- 7:59going to like prevent, you know, less goals?
- 8:02To play football when I was younger, so football was my
- 8:04sport. So I was definitely thinking 5A
- 8:05side wise, you're you're thinking someone with feet.
- 8:08And then defender wise, probably actually Cole, again, similar
- 8:11concepts, play with his feet, defends really well.
- 8:15You know, look at him when he went to Chelsea, he was at
- 8:17despite the fact that he went to Chelsea, I think as a player
- 8:21he's still an Arsenal legend. No matter what, no matter what
- 8:24anyone said, he he he was phenomenal.
- 8:26He's probably the best, the best left back England has ever had
- 8:31jump in for me personally I think.
- 8:33He's brilliant. I was so desperate when I used
- 8:35to play football to try and play with my left foot as well and I
- 8:37always wanted to play left back. I couldn't do it.
- 8:39I just couldn't do it. And.
- 8:41Just I was so fascinated with him like once, like as a player
- 8:45because of how good he was and the way he used to keep Ronaldo
- 8:47at the time, you know, quite speed.
- 8:49He wasn't quite the, you know, the GOAT Ronaldo, but the way he
- 8:51used to keep yeah. He kept him, kept him under
- 8:54wraps all the time. Yeah, so, so much.
- 8:56In fact, Ronald decided to go and play left wing.
- 9:01I'm not pointing out I'm actually.
- 9:03Anymore. So what's that 2 defender for
- 9:10me? Perez, Yunberg, Henri Dunn?
- 9:13Nice. Nice you.
- 9:16Think about my general I don't. I don't think in terms of
- 9:18Arsenal wingers generational after Yunberg and Pires, those
- 9:25two were absolutely beyond their years and they were unreal.
- 9:28Like you look at them, like you look at what they did and their
- 9:33movement, their play, that it was obviously the GOAT.
- 9:37Enri is just Enri, isn't it? You're going to put it upfront.
- 9:39I mean everyone no matter what year it is will know who Enri he
- 9:41was, but I think Perez doesn't really get his flowers.
- 9:44Yunberg as. Well, no man, obviously that's
- 9:46my generation, that's we watched when we were younger.
- 9:49That's the, that's the, you know, that Invincibles era
- 9:51generational team, you know that midfield with Viera, Henri
- 9:57Yunberg, Perez and and I left that Bergkamp.
- 10:02I'm like that Newcastle goal. And then he like literally did
- 10:07it for Holland as well, didn't he?
- 10:08Was it before? He did it well, the the Holland
- 10:11goal was before and then yeah, no, the the the same motion that
- 10:16was afterwards, but he saw that he scored that other one in like
- 10:18the EUR or something like that. Some mad fucking acrobatics.
- 10:21What kind of sweat? Apologies, I do.
- 10:26Mate he literally changed football didn't he people?
- 10:29Forgot. Yeah, I know.
- 10:30Like even I was watching them. I watched a little clip the
- 10:33other day and it was like Ian Wright, he had that interview
- 10:37and they were like, you've got, you've got your new manager
- 10:40coming in. And he was like, who?
- 10:42Like he didn't know who he was and nobody did and nobody did.
- 10:46And if you think about the generations after that point,
- 10:49football has changed because of what he did and the way he
- 10:52treated it. It was.
- 10:54It's a job at the end of the day.
- 10:56We got a treat here with that most respect, you know, coming
- 10:59on time, blah blah blah. Paid to diet.
- 11:00Like, you know, the drinking culture just just got phased out
- 11:03massively quick because it was a big thing.
- 11:05I asked on the 90s. Yeah, if you think about Tony
- 11:08Adams and all that jazz, they were the the the team they had.
- 11:11But yeah, 100% it was so yeah, that I'd say Ryah just because I
- 11:17think footballing wise is is brilliant.
- 11:19He was so when he first came into Arsenal, it was just like,
- 11:22who's this? Why is he knocking out Ramsdale?
- 11:24The only reason why you're going to get that is because Ramsdale
- 11:26was English. And it's like the knock on
- 11:29effect of the fact that he was an English player and he's
- 11:31getting dropped and it's like, but Ryah, it has been absolutely
- 11:33phenomenal. I think as a final I was.
- 11:35Actually a bit guide for Ramsdale I did.
- 11:36Generally, no, don't get me wrong, 100% yeah, He was
- 11:39brilliant. He did really well the season
- 11:41before Ryah came in and he was like.
- 11:43But he would get distracted quite easy, wouldn't he?
- 11:45Just like like like. And.
- 11:49Then it's fucking bad mind about our tech.
- 11:50I was like, Oh no, don't get your family involved, you're
- 11:53dickhead. But the quiet decision we, you
- 11:56know, look on the few years that's happened now, yeah, we've
- 11:59got probably all keepers in all of Europe.
- 12:02Yeah, no, definitely. I mean, he's kind of established
- 12:04himself, hasn't he? And he's like some of the Daves
- 12:06he pulls off. It's phenomenal.
- 12:07And then 5A side goal mate, he'd be unbeatable, he'd be
- 12:09brilliant. And.
- 12:11Then had. To choose Ashley Cole, so he's
- 12:14going to be a. Little bit flair, a little bit
- 12:16of, you know, quick pace. Yeah, I think I'd be all right.
- 12:19I guess I didn't want to go for a Kolo Torre.
- 12:21He just smashed someone in half every time.
- 12:24But he was another exceptional talent, wasn't he?
- 12:27Kolo. Yeah, right.
- 12:29Sorry. Talk about old Arsenal again.
- 12:31But by midfield, I mean Junberg and Perez.
- 12:33They were always my favorite. I always had Junberg on the back
- 12:37of my shirt. He was, I remember watching a
- 12:41like listening to or watching a little clip of Omri.
- 12:44He complained. Did you know he complained when
- 12:47he played with Junberg? No.
- 12:49Didn't know this. Yeah, he complained.
- 12:51He said he's never there, he's never where I want him when I
- 12:55want to give him the ball. And Arsene Wenger said to him,
- 12:57he went, OK, where do you want him to be?
- 13:01Play the ball there and you'll get there.
- 13:03Like it was like, and Omri was like, OK.
- 13:06And then it just worked. Because if you think about the
- 13:08way Youngberg used to run, he used to stay on the wing and
- 13:12sort of cut across and cut in and just be that sort of next
- 13:16man coming in and he's like just watching him.
- 13:18I was like, and then when that when they did the the analysis
- 13:21at the end of the day, I was like, that's something real
- 13:23like. I need to find this.
- 13:24I definitely need to find this. Yeah, no, he there's a little
- 13:27interview somewhere. Everyone really saying about
- 13:29playing in Bergen. It was like OK, also just
- 13:32finished. In Rosberg, actually the second
- 13:35one and going back to Bergkamp, like he just talks like he was
- 13:38so happy that Bergkamp included means like all time Arsenal
- 13:41team. He was so happy to hear that.
- 13:44Yeah, he just I was like just he's like a big kid when it
- 13:46comes to Wenger and which I'm quite surprised to be honest,
- 13:49because he didn't play with Wenger that long.
- 13:50But Wenger and Bergkamp, these players coming in and ultimately
- 13:56he was sort of at the end of his.
- 13:58Career. He was at the end, yeah.
- 14:00Fortunately, and. Then you had the nail could come
- 14:02in and then, you know, just kind of disappeared after that.
- 14:04That's a shame because he looked like a fucking great player.
- 14:06I mean did well in second season.
- 14:09Obviously he's overshadowed with the treble with Man United, you
- 14:11know, doing what he did, but Oh my God, if he stayed on mate,
- 14:15just who knows what happened, but then on.
- 14:16Me, every single player that has played with him ever said unreal
- 14:22talent, like he was brilliant no matter where he went and he he
- 14:25proved it because he won league title, off the league title,
- 14:28Champions League, whatever, World Cup, EUR, everything.
- 14:31So he did really well, just a bit.
- 14:33Of a tick. Yeah, yeah, but Ibramovich,
- 14:37Ibramovich. Similar concept, isn't he?
- 14:39He's got that. I'm better than your attitude.
- 14:41Oh, he knows. He'll let you know he don't care
- 14:43and he'll back it up. And I do like it.
- 14:46Up. And that's what's missing in,
- 14:48in, in, in football. It's that arrogant swagger.
- 14:52It's a little bit too polite, a bit too nice.
- 14:57Yeah. Like they're all mates, which is
- 15:00which is fine. I mean, you all can be mates
- 15:02because you're in national friends or whatever this that
- 15:04now, but you're all friends. But at the end of the day, like
- 15:07for us as a football fan, we want to see that passion.
- 15:10We want to see that grip. We want to see that fight.
- 15:11That's why I mean, the other day when when we played Newcastle
- 15:17and you know, you had that Yocharism moment when the cell
- 15:20was literally grabbed him by the throat and pulled him to the
- 15:23floor. He just got straight back up
- 15:24again and I thought that grip was just absolutely brilliant.
- 15:28That is what we need. We need that little bit.
- 15:30Don't see that? In a lot of modern players now,
- 15:31they'll be staying down Frasers until the ref comes over, makes
- 15:33a decision or not, and they're like oh oh miracle, back off.
- 15:36100% is Britain. Their team just carried on Well
- 15:39anyway. Well, sorry.
- 15:41No, that's cool mate and I think he's just on the Ranger striker
- 15:43for the five side team. 100% Henry.
- 15:46It can't be anyone. I mean, yeah, I think Perkham is
- 15:50the toss up in it, but but for me, I'm really is my favorite
- 15:53Arsenal strike of all time just because that's what I watched.
- 15:57Nice. We got the Arsenal talk out of
- 16:00the way. Wasn't too long but I thought it
- 16:01was fucking fun. Hello there, I've got a special
- 16:04announcement from my next guest. Oh, anyway, we're sat in people,
- 16:08which the ultimate geezer, Tony Tanner, and you're listening to
- 16:11the What Do You Call It podcast. They're Sabbat.
- 16:15Yeah, open up with the rest in talk with some questions for you
- 16:25that I've received on my Instagram.
- 16:27What you call on Instagram. So here's the first one.
- 16:31My boy, the conductor Freddie Hussain, friend of the show, has
- 16:36a question for you and he joined the London E crew.
- 16:44But I don't know if you're aware, but the last six months I
- 16:49have made A tag team with a couple of boys from his training
- 16:52school, Tyler James, Tyler Walker, sorry, James and Jimmy
- 16:57Player, we're called South London Syndicate.
- 17:00So we're not East London, we're not Central London, we're not
- 17:02North London. So, and every day he, he, he,
- 17:08he'll say something and he wants to join.
- 17:11And the answer to the question is no.
- 17:15Sorry, Freddie, it's still a no but.
- 17:18Sorry mate, you speak to you speak to T speak to Jimmy, but
- 17:23unfortunately you just lived the wrong side of the river.
- 17:28He doesn't say have a question also but he also says Ha Kane.
- 17:36Again, similar concept. He came up with a name.
- 17:39I'm going to call myself Ha Kane.
- 17:41Like Kane and I just wanted to be cool in front of it.
- 17:44So yeah, to be fair, like he's fairly new in this in the
- 17:49business and he's somebody that I feel has a great work ethic in
- 17:56terms of he wants to work on himself, he wants to push.
- 17:59He's got his little character. He's trying to get himself out
- 18:02there. He's getting his bookings and
- 18:04every time he gets the booking, he does fantastic.
- 18:06And you always get good feedback.
- 18:08He he's someone from a great training school as well.
- 18:11I mean, what he trains down with Greg Burridge, who is absolutely
- 18:14phenomenal trainer. So he has the right people
- 18:16behind him and there's a little collective of them now,
- 18:18obviously Tyler Walker being one of them.
- 18:21I mean, Tanner you've had on there as well and that there
- 18:24there's a little collective of them which are spreading out.
- 18:26I mean, Greg as a trainer, he has just one of those minds.
- 18:32So having that little conduct, A gimmick that he has, and it's,
- 18:36it's brilliant, it's good, and it's it's.
- 18:38Really over live shows, I've seen it twice now and it's how
- 18:42can you not like this man? Just do do, and he's really fun
- 18:46to watch in the ring as well. He's naturally likeable as well,
- 18:50and that's just something you can't fake and wrestling.
- 18:53You know, you can try as hard as you can to get those, you know,
- 18:56high fives from the fans, but you know, if they can sense that
- 18:59you're fakely, this isn't really you, whatever, then they're just
- 19:02going to be like. 111 of the the greatest sayings in wrestling is
- 19:07William Regal said it. He was.
- 19:09You need to like, you need to come out like no one knows you,
- 19:17OK, No matter who you are, no matter what event, no matter how
- 19:20many times I've seen you, you come out like no one knows you.
- 19:24So let's say Freddy, for instance, he comes out to to
- 19:30straight away. Everyone knows who you are.
- 19:33He's got something and that's it.
- 19:35He's just Choo, Choo and that's it.
- 19:37Everyone is it the whole match. Pause is is you know he's far
- 19:41up, whatever, but but that's it. Everyone knows is it Instant,
- 19:46instantaneously, the whole you've got the whole crowd going
- 19:49to bloody tooth. Yo E yo E even my missus was
- 19:53doing it as well. When we went to the show last
- 19:55month, she was like. I did I it's so sorry like I.
- 20:02A couple of baby baby what babyface will rest for us a
- 20:05couple of times back end of probably not last year before
- 20:09some of that anyway. And I was like, I'm not really
- 20:11worried babyfaces often and I was like, OK, and I just started
- 20:16barking like and by the end of the match, how old are you to
- 20:21do? And that's it.
- 20:23That Choo Choo gimmicks the same thing.
- 20:25You're giving them something to remember you or recognize you at
- 20:28the end of the show. I'm pretty sure everyone comes
- 20:30up to it and go Choo Choo. And, and, and it shows.
- 20:34He, he puts in so much work and his, his facials, his
- 20:39expressions, he, and that's it. They're going to remember.
- 20:42They're not going to remember the 4:50 you did with the
- 20:44Canadian destroyer afterwards. Not that audience anyway.
- 20:48Like in terms of the audience, these target audience.
- 20:50So family and friends and kids, they're going to go, if they see
- 20:54a 450, they're going to go, oh, that's cool.
- 20:56But they're going to remember the Choo Choo guy.
- 20:58Yeah, they're going to go their way home.
- 21:03Shout out to Freddie. Freddie, you're good, man.
- 21:06Another question for you, for Ben's.
- 21:08So I'm going to assume his first name is Ben.
- 21:10Seems to be like a friend of show so far.
- 21:12I'm happy he asked. If you have one, what is your
- 21:15favorite match of your career? Favorite match of my career is
- 21:24you know, I'm not going to lie, I've probably forgotten more
- 21:27matches than I can remember because the amount of times I've
- 21:30I've I've wrestled people like we've wrestled at XYZ however
- 21:35many moons ago. So my favorite match, I'm going
- 21:41to say my not my favorite match. My favorite matches I've had
- 21:47have been in the last year as the Genesis Professional
- 21:54Wrestling World Champion. The reason being is because I'm
- 22:00getting to wrestle a lot of the Gem Pro Academy that those guys
- 22:07are starting to break out. Those guys are starting to make
- 22:09it onto other shows. Those guys.
- 22:12So me being the the veteran, the pro and the champion.
- 22:18Is it over a year now or is it just under?
- 22:21It was 315 days. It will be on the next show on
- 22:26the 18th of October and Snodland, that'll be 315 days as
- 22:31champion. So in terms of that, what I mean
- 22:33by this is I'm giving these boys an opportunity to wrestle main
- 22:40event, world title style match. And it's something that although
- 22:47I'm capable of doing, I've not too often, if you know what I
- 22:53mean. So having that platform to do it
- 22:57and help and guide these boys to help themselves and understand
- 23:03what the difference is between your first and your last, you
- 23:09know what I mean? So having that opportunity.
- 23:12So I've like, I've defended my title.
- 23:14If you think about my last one, I had my last title match I had
- 23:17with a guy, Christian Croft, who is absolutely phenomenal young
- 23:21talent and just is hungry. That match was completely
- 23:26different to the match I had at the previous show against
- 23:29Raymond O'Reilly. And Raymond O'Reilly is an
- 23:36exceptional talent for his age. So he had two completely
- 23:39different matches, styles of matches, and both matches were
- 23:46main event world title matches. If you're not, is that make
- 23:49sense? No, I get it, they were so they
- 23:50were different, but they were both for the world title.
- 23:54Yes, and they were. That but also made you kind of
- 24:00switch up maybe. So one thing you can do for this
- 24:02match, actually I'll do, I'll go different direction this match
- 24:05and this style. And it's kind of like, you know,
- 24:07Flair, like you'd wrestle all these different kind of
- 24:09opponents across the road. You know, it's, you can't just
- 24:12have the same match every night because if that's the same
- 24:14audience, they're going to know. Yeah, 100%.
- 24:17And that's it. I mean the, the, the crowd in
- 24:19which Gen. Gen.
- 24:19Pro have accumulated over the last what, couple of years now
- 24:24will kind of it was like a kick start of the of the Federation.
- 24:29That crowd have followed us on this lovely little journey to
- 24:33get to where we are. If they saw the same match every
- 24:36time, they'd be like, well, what's the point?
- 24:37They wouldn't return no. Yeah, so for me, it was like I
- 24:41needed to push myself and those lands, they they probably don't
- 24:45know it, but they've helped me push myself and help me put on a
- 24:49better show and a better match and XYZ.
- 24:51So I would say, you know, at Gem Pro over the last year, nearly a
- 24:59year now, I've had probably some of my my most favorite matches.
- 25:02And yeah, I definitely enjoyed that.
- 25:07But there is one other though. Sorry.
- 25:09Let me just turn the light on because it's getting dark.
- 25:11No worries. Mr. Tommy Tanner So I wrestled
- 25:18Tommy Tanner at Braves end the night he won the belt.
- 25:25So for for Rumble he won the belt for Rumble so that night he
- 25:29won the belt. So we went on 1st and the the
- 25:35win of the match gets a pre briefcase to to challenge for
- 25:40the title later on that night or or whenever they want it.
- 25:44And obviously watching wrestling and knowing what's going on, I
- 25:49was like, OK, I need to make this, this this Tommy Tanner, I
- 25:57need to make him look like a star.
- 26:02So I said it, it was like I needed to make that feeling
- 26:08because, you know, Labour, when he does challenge for the belt,
- 26:15they want to know that this person is credible when he when
- 26:19he challenged, yeah, it builds him up.
- 26:22So that was probably one of my funniest matches I've had in the
- 26:25last year or so. Like I really enjoyed that match
- 26:28because Tommy is a person. Since that point, I feel it's
- 26:33just grown and grown and grown and he he kind of started to get
- 26:36things a little bit more. And that was one of the people
- 26:38that the Choo Choo gimmick. Yeah.
- 26:40I was saying you need something like, you know what I mean?
- 26:42You need that little bit of in between.
- 26:44So yeah, I think definitely. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:49Well, like geezer, that's about all he does.
- 26:51He's he's. Doing guitar though, like, you
- 26:53know, a really good guest and the fact that you gave him that
- 26:55opportunity to sort of elevate him with that style of match and
- 26:59build him up as a credible opponent as well.
- 27:02I think I think that's that's that's that's the one thing that
- 27:05it was really appreciative of it literally like understood.
- 27:08And like having comments like he's he's one.
- 27:12I think it's brother-in-law was the old somebody who was like,
- 27:14that's probably one of the best matches you had on my ear.
- 27:16But that was what he needed. And it was what in terms of at
- 27:20that point, Jimmy, since that point, he's he's fucking done
- 27:23Whatever Joey is is is phenomenal.
- 27:26So yeah, I'd say that was probably one of my favourites
- 27:30that I've had, Rick, But I even remember what I did last week,
- 27:32let alone what I did. Like this is 19 years in this
- 27:36game. I'm like, oh, I think.
- 27:39He gave a good answer for Ben, but or Ben Ben, Ben, I don't
- 27:42know. I always have to say the name up
- 27:43times. That's just how his it's grab
- 27:45name is. So give him a follow if you can
- 27:46as well. And last question for you, it's
- 27:49from the username guy. UCU wants to know what do you
- 27:54think about pro vesting in Cyprus?
- 27:57Absolute Cyprus wrestling? ACWI think to be specific this.
- 28:02One specific, so the last couple of years, obviously MyHeritage
- 28:10is Turkish Cypriot. OK, So my family are from
- 28:13Cyprus, Northern Cyprus to be specific.
- 28:16So as a professional wrestler, to see a company or an
- 28:23opportunity for people to do what I've done for 19 years and
- 28:30a school open up in essentially my, my family's back garden
- 28:37essentially for that, for that point, like when it opened up
- 28:40and I saw it, I was like, that is absolutely unreal.
- 28:46Last this summer gone, I managed to get down to the training
- 28:52school and just have a little roll of that with these guys and
- 28:55have a little training session. And mostly, I mean, unlike here,
- 29:01you know, you've got kids classes and every school in the
- 29:04world if within a five mile radius of each other.
- 29:07So much opportunity. There was nothing up until a
- 29:11year ago. Do you know what I mean?
- 29:13There was. No, it was like nothing at all.
- 29:15Like no matter how hard you look to talk.
- 29:18No, I mean, I mean there is. So now in theory there's 2.
- 29:24So you've got there's another company that runs on like Comic
- 29:30Con sort of events, but they just bring imports in.
- 29:33So Tommy, Tommy Tanner was there, Tate Tate was there and
- 29:36Driss was there and load of other people were there this
- 29:39past weekend. But that's only in Comic Con.
- 29:41Like so there wasn't nothing. But also they don't run a
- 29:44training school. So I went there with my eldest
- 29:49Felix, who is also training as well.
- 29:50He's six months into training and I thought I'll take you
- 29:54there and it'll be a good opportunity for you to see how
- 29:57other schools run and see what they do.
- 29:59So I went there knowing the fact that OK, majorities guys are
- 30:07fairly new, one year wrestling stay what they're like.
- 30:11The hunger is unreal like most these guys.
- 30:17So what I want in in England, you're looking, you know, some
- 30:21people start 141516, you know around about 20 ish.
- 30:26Most of these guys, you know, back in the 20 early 30s, you
- 30:31know, summer mid 30s. So to have that opportunity to
- 30:37do what you've loved to watch for such a long time, turn up at
- 30:41your back. I mean, the guy who runs it,
- 30:43Sasha, he's a guy who's wrestled around the world.
- 30:47He had a triumph WWE way back when.
- 30:50And he is quite militant in the way he does stuff.
- 30:53He's quite regimented. Like this is the way I want to
- 30:55see it, this the style I want to see it.
- 30:57And he kind of put it in perspective.
- 30:58He's like this, this, this island as a whole is a virgin to
- 31:03wrestling. This is not so for me.
- 31:06And you, you know, we grew up in that Attitude era.
- 31:08We watched it on TV and you know it's available.
- 31:11All the time. Don't try the corner like local
- 31:12shows you like, you know. It's not what I mean.
- 31:15Yeah, they have none of that, none of that up until a year ago
- 31:20like LA, I want to say maybe last December is when they sort
- 31:24of. There must have been some kind
- 31:25of hunger for it as well, like a wrestling scene to be imported
- 31:28into Cyprus. It was, it was there was
- 31:31nothing. There was absolutely nothing.
- 31:32So, so for for me to go there and see them and watch their
- 31:36passion and watch the way that they're doing things.
- 31:39I mean, they're doing things the right way.
- 31:42Obviously the coach has his way of doing things, which is fine,
- 31:45and that's the way he wants to do it.
- 31:47Me being me, I understand that wrestling's more than just one
- 31:51way is a bit more of an entertainment show.
- 31:53So I just said to those guys, you're brilliant.
- 31:56You can see the hunger, you can see the drive, you can see the
- 31:58work ethic. They, I mean, they have a show
- 32:01once every three months. They just had one news couple
- 32:04weeks ago and the next one's in mid-december, end of December.
- 32:09And it's something that I personally would love to be a
- 32:14part of just because of the fact that I've been in this game for
- 32:17such a long time and to know the fact that I can go to my parents
- 32:22motherland and go and wrestle on a show in that when they first
- 32:27popped up, I was like, no way. It's like would have been
- 32:31unheard of. So are.
- 32:35You wrestled over there yet? I need to train in the seminar.
- 32:37But. I went, I went.
- 32:39I went in August. Yeah, I went in August.
- 32:42I went to a training session. I had a blast and fun and lots
- 32:46of fun actually. Obviously took my aunt took my
- 32:49oldest with me who also had fun. And it's quite hard when when
- 32:57the person who is running the training school and does the
- 33:00bookends don't know who you are. I mean, for what reason would he
- 33:04bring me there? Yeah.
- 33:06There's no reason he doesn't know who I am, he doesn't know
- 33:09what I do. I can send them a load of
- 33:11matches but that doesn't show me if you know what I mean.
- 33:17So by me going and showing my face and going to a training
- 33:20school, it also enabled him to see me.
- 33:25And. What I can do?
- 33:27I don't know if you know about island of Cyprus much, but it's
- 33:30actually an island of two halves.
- 33:34I don't get out much. It's like it's an island of two
- 33:37halves, split in the middle, basically North and South, Greek
- 33:41and Turkish. Yeah, So it's split in half.
- 33:43There's a big border in the middle.
- 33:45It's the only capital in the world that crosses over two
- 33:48countries, which is a different fact anyway.
- 33:52So to cross from one side of the island to the other side of the
- 33:55island, you have to go through a border checkpoint.
- 33:59There is a young man who's actually from Northern Cyprus,
- 34:02which is where I'm my family are from, who crosses over the
- 34:06border three times a week just to go training, just because
- 34:11he's had that that wanting to do it for such a long time and it
- 34:15was nothing. And then it's got an
- 34:16opportunity, but just for him mid to this journey in order to,
- 34:21you know, conquer his dream as Man City.
- 34:24And I'm. Just out there be like, oh, I
- 34:26just drive there like 20 minutes of that.
- 34:30But that shows the dedication. I mean, wrestling for me is
- 34:32dedication. It's hunger, it's tribe, it's
- 34:34wanting to improve, it's wanting to get to where you want to get
- 34:36to. And the fact that he drives, you
- 34:39know, across the border to a different country, essentially
- 34:43just to train and to mix up with in theory, like, if you think
- 34:48about it, these two nationalities are rivals on a
- 34:52political scale. Yeah.
- 34:55And, you know, but in terms of when they get there, they
- 35:00literally are like any other wrestling school.
- 35:02They're a collective. They're a family.
- 35:04They, you know, no matter where you're from, what nationality,
- 35:06what race you are, they, they pretty much took each other
- 35:10like, and just, and that was it. And, and that was the embrace I
- 35:15got. Like despite the fact that they
- 35:17didn't even know who I am, a couple of them followed me and
- 35:19kind of like saw that I have been wrestling.
- 35:21And so they kind of asked me a few questions here and there.
- 35:25And then one of them got one of them who is actually a native
- 35:28Greek Cypriot who who was like, it just would love to wrestle
- 35:31me. I'm like, yeah, OK, we'll see
- 35:33how it goes and hopefully 2026 A/C WI will be there, but we've
- 35:38got to see what happens. I think you will mate.
- 35:41Obviously the question popped into my inbox so.
- 35:44Well, yeah, let's see what happens.
- 35:45I I'll share it with them. But but there's.
- 35:48Shows enough. No, no, no.
- 35:50But then, like, sorry, just talk about dedication and wrestling.
- 35:53This, that and the other. I kind of vaguely mentioned my
- 35:56eldest, Felix. Yeah.
- 35:57So Felix is 14 years old, as you do as a youngster.
- 36:01Most of the time we play football, don't we?
- 36:03That's what we do. Yeah.
- 36:05OK, so he's played for the last Four Seasons, won a couple of
- 36:08leaks, won a, you know, little cup.
- 36:10Brilliant. He did really good for his team.
- 36:12And then end of the last season, the Felix went to me and said I
- 36:17want to start wrestling. I said brilliant, cool.
- 36:19What do you want to do, wrestling or football?
- 36:23And I was like, it was. So he's taken ages to decide
- 36:25well, or do football, wrestling, football, wrestling.
- 36:27I love football but also want to wrestle.
- 36:30I said sweet, brilliant, sweet wrestling.
- 36:33So Genesis Professional Wrestling is down the road from
- 36:36us. Yeah, a lovely training
- 36:38facility. I said to him.
- 36:41Dedication. You want to wrestle?
- 36:45The bus stop is at the top of our Rd.
- 36:59Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages,
- 37:03it's time for What Do You Call It podcast.
