- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo, I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode 56, wow we're on a roll. Lucas: We are. And today we're going to talk about getting around town — transport. Luna: Oh, like in episode 41 we did 車, 巴士, 的士 — but we only covered the nouns, right? Lucas: Exactly. Today we'll build on that and learn how to say 'take' a taxi, bus, or subway. The verb is 搭. Luna: 搭 — that sounds like 'dap'. Lucas: Close! 搭 — a short, sharp sound. Listen again: 搭. Luna: 搭. Lucas: Perfect! So 搭 means 'to take' or 'to ride' a vehicle. We'll combine it with three transport words. First, 的士 — you remember that? Luna: 的士 — taxi! That's from the English 'taxi' but with Cantonese tones. dik1 si6-2. Lucas: Right. So to say 'take a taxi', it's 搭的士. Luna: 搭的士. Lucas: Good. Next, 巴士 — bus. Luna: 巴士 — also from English. Lucas: 搭巴士. Luna: 搭巴士. Lucas: And the third one is new: 地鐵 — subway or metro. It literally means 'underground iron'. Luna: 地鐵. That's cool. So 搭地鐵 is 'take the subway'. Lucas: Yes! Let's practice all three. Repeat after me: 搭的士. Luna: 搭的士. Lucas: 搭巴士. Luna: 搭巴士. Lucas: 搭地鐵. Luna: 搭地鐵. Lucas: Great. Now, how would you ask someone 'Do you take the bus?' — using 你 and 唔? Luna: Uh... 你搭唔搭巴士? Lucas: Exactly! 你搭唔搭巴士? That's 'Do you take the bus?' Luna: 你搭唔搭巴士? And the answer could be 我搭巴士 or 我唔搭巴士. Lucas: Right. Or you could say 我搭的士. Let's try a quick scene. Let's say we're going to the airport. How would I say 'I take a taxi'? Luna: 我搭的士. Lucas: And if we want to say 'We take the subway'? Luna: 我哋搭地鐵. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's review all three phrases together. Say them with me: 搭的士. Luna: 搭的士. Lucas: 搭巴士. Luna: 搭巴士. Lucas: 搭地鐵. Luna: 搭地鐵. Lucas: Wonderful. Now you can get around and talk about your ride. Practice these and we'll see you next time on Fexingo! Luna: Bye bye! 拜拜!
