- 0:05Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10It is not hands that summon us, it is desire.
- 0:14Welcome to What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:15The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:18the absurd and all of your favorite.
- 0:20And least favorite? Scary movies.
- 0:21Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has its fan
- 0:24base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:25My name is Travis. My name is Jesse.
- 0:27And welcome everybody, we have our Hellraiser 2 episode out
- 0:31here now, finally. This is our Patreon voted
- 0:34episode for the month. It is our final episode of Pride
- 0:38Month. We will go over our schedule
- 0:40change in just a second, but I just want to remind everybody
- 0:42that for Pride Month, we were taking all of the donation or
- 0:46all of the like, subscription costs or any individual bonus
- 0:51episodes bought on the Patreon. And we're taking that money and
- 0:53we're going to donate it to the Trevor Project.
- 0:55And you can find the link to our Patreon at the very bottom of
- 0:57our show notes right here. So As for the announcement,
- 1:03obviously this episode was supposed to be out a week ago
- 1:06and I didn't happen because Talia and myself both wound up
- 1:11in our respective species ERS. So it's just been not a super
- 1:18fun time. But we're back here and we're
- 1:20just, we're having to shift the schedule.
- 1:22And we just thank you guys for the the understanding and the
- 1:25support and just thank you for going along with how life goes
- 1:30sometimes. Yeah, I do appreciate that.
- 1:32Thanks everybody for being understanding.
- 1:34You'll also probably be able to tell we're using our lavalier
- 1:38mics out here in our living room, so we can be here with
- 1:40Talia. If you're hearing some licking,
- 1:43that is because Talia just had a bath and she's over here looking
- 1:47herself. Yeah, she's not happy with us
- 1:48about that, but it had to happen, yeah.
- 1:51She was a dirty girl. She needed to be taken care of.
- 1:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:54But you know, it's still the same, same deal today.
- 1:57We just might have some some pets chiming in and that's not
- 2:01out of the norm because they like to chime in all the time.
- 2:04And because we are not doing Texas Chainsaw this month, if
- 2:08you are a budget tier patron, you get to play a game that
- 2:11we're calling Wheel of Travis because we won't have the Texas
- 2:18Chainsaw sticker for the month of June.
- 2:20So Travis is going to reach out to each of you and figure out
- 2:24what cover art specifically you would like a picture of.
- 2:26Yeah. And you know, like it can be any
- 2:29of them from this month. You know, really, if there's one
- 2:32from any month that you want, just tell me.
- 2:34Just like if there's any cover that you'd like to have a
- 2:36sticker of, I'll be more than happy to do that.
- 2:39If you don't tell me anything, I'm going to pick it for you.
- 2:41Yeah. And listen, that's a gamble.
- 2:44That's risky business. Yeah, you know, I guess that's
- 2:47true. But I'm proud of my shit except
- 2:50the times when I'm not. So you won't get the ones that
- 2:54I'm not proud of. I'm only going to send the ones
- 2:56that I'm super proud of. All right, so here's our poll
- 3:00for RAW. So we asked which would you
- 3:03rather eat, raw chicken, a finger or rabbit?
- 3:06Kidney 14. Percent shot of pee.
- 3:10For the shot of pee, 14% shows raw chicken, 36% finger and 50%
- 3:15rabbit kidney. And I'm inclined to agree on the
- 3:18rabbit kidney because I'm not eating as somebody else's finger
- 3:21and I'm I'm not going to eat raw chicken.
- 3:24I love chicken, but raw chicken, that's fucking gross.
- 3:26That that scene disturbs me when we watch that in raw and I'm
- 3:29just not going to put myself up. We're going to go through that.
- 3:32Yeah. Rapid kidney.
- 3:34That's, I don't know, it's. That's like, yeah, it's like a
- 3:37fear factor moment. Like you just like swallow real
- 3:39quick. Don't think about it.
- 3:40Yeah, just chase it with pee and you'll be OK.
- 3:42Yeah, you'll have worse things to worry about because of the
- 3:45pee. Yeah, what about you?
- 3:46Which one? That's yeah, I'm agreeing with
- 3:47you. I agree.
- 3:48Yeah, boy, because the vegan did that too.
- 3:51But actually, she also ate all the other things that we.
- 3:54Listed there. Yeah, that was weird.
- 3:57Yeah, weird segue. OK, well.
- 3:59That's not a segue. I don't know.
- 4:00Whatever. My brain's not working.
- 4:01I'm on a lot of medication right now, guys.
- 4:02Here's a good segue. Hell, Razor Two, it's time for
- 4:06it. That's a segue.
- 4:07I don't know if I'd call it a good one.
- 4:09OK, so Hellbound Hell Razor 2, this movie released September
- 4:149th, 1988 at the Toronto International Film Fest.
- 4:18It's wide release was December 23rd, 1988.
- 4:21We watched it on Shutter, which we actually haven't playing on
- 4:24Shutter since we're here in the living room.
- 4:26So I figured I'd throw it on while we're talking about it.
- 4:28That way we can kind of look up and just kind of, you know, see
- 4:30the movie play out while we discuss it.
- 4:33Written by Peter Atkins, who did the screenplay and story
- 4:37obviously by Clive Barker. Directed by Tony Rendell and
- 4:41music by Christopher Young. Special effects makeup image
- 4:45animation starring Ashley Lawrence as Kirsty, Imogen
- 4:50Borman as Tiffany, William Hope as Kyle, Claire Higgins as
- 4:54Julia, Kenneth Graham as Chenard, Sean Chapman as Frank,
- 4:59Doug Bradley as Pinhead, Barbie Wilde as Deep Throat, Simon
- 5:03Bamford as Butterball, and Nicholas Vince as Chatterer
- 5:07Jesse. Time for her favorite game on
- 5:09the show. Budget, OH.
- 5:11Bucket. I don't remember what the first
- 5:15movie was. I feel like it was Bug Ted and I
- 5:17feel like this is also Bug Ted. Yeah, this is a big time, Well,
- 5:22I wouldn't say like Super Bug Ted, it's £3,000,000.
- 5:25So they, they have some money to mess with, but not as much as
- 5:29they would have hoped. We'll talk about that probably
- 5:31here in a few minutes. OK.
- 5:33Opening box office was 3 million U.S. dollars, so we changed
- 5:38currencies here and the worldwide grossest $12 million
- 5:41IMDb scores 6.4 Afton. OK, that's decent.
- 5:45All right, so I have 3 movies from 1988 that I wanted to
- 5:49compare this movie to, and the theme that I have are movie
- 5:54covers that really struck my interest in the video rental
- 5:57store back in the day. All right, the most subjective
- 6:00of all themes. The first movie is American
- 6:03Gothic. Do you remember the cover for
- 6:06that one? I remember the painting American
- 6:08Gothic. It's basically the painting, but
- 6:10they're like making scary faces at you.
- 6:12OK, and that really freaked me out whenever I was a kid because
- 6:16it just seemed so off putting I'm.
- 6:18Gonna look it up right now. I'm gonna look these up as we go
- 6:20along because I'm curious as to what they look like.
- 6:23You'll probably know some of these off the top of your head
- 6:25too. American Gothic came out at some
- 6:28point in May 1988. I don't have the budget or the
- 6:30gross, but the IMDb score is 5.8.
- 6:33These I have scary faces. They are scary to a kid.
- 6:37I was a child. Whenever I saw that, that scared
- 6:39me. It's too serious.
- 6:40You were a soft child. I was I was a very soft child.
- 6:44Second movie Child's Play. OK.
- 6:47Yeah, that's a. Super iconic Yeah.
- 6:49Poster right there that released November 9th, 1980.
- 6:53Eight $9 million budget Worldwide Gross 44,000,006.7
- 6:57IMDb score. Kind of rude, but OK.
- 7:00It's the highest of all of the movies that we have.
- 7:02Here. Oh boy.
- 7:03OK. Oh boy.
- 7:05Oh boy. The final movie is Monkey
- 7:08Shines, which is that cover. Yeah and that day spoofed that
- 7:14heavily and righteous Jim Stones this last season it then yeah
- 7:18monkey shines cuz he gets Doctor Watson and it.
- 7:21Looks like that's what. That's referred to, right?
- 7:23OK, see, like whenever I saw the cover, I was like, OK, that I
- 7:27thought that that was an adaptation of the monkey Stephen
- 7:30King story because it reminded me so much of the monkey movie
- 7:33that we watched earlier this year.
- 7:35Yeah, no, this is actually like he.
- 7:37It's a person with like who's quadriplegic as a result of an
- 7:41accident. Yeah, you're right.
- 7:42I remember I read the synopsis whenever I saw this and it just
- 7:46surprised me because the poster is one of those toy monkeys with
- 7:49like the little symbols. Yeah.
- 7:51So that released July 29th, 1988.
- 7:54Seven million budget, 5 million Gross IMDb 6.2.
- 7:59OK. Yeah, not bad.
- 8:01All right. I've got some tag lines, the one
- 8:03that's on the poster. Time to play, time to.
- 8:08I mean, it's not good, Yeah. I think it's good who's playing.
- 8:12I think it's implied that his pinhead is playing because it's
- 8:15a game to him, I think. I don't think it is a game to
- 8:17him. He's look, we'll get into it
- 8:19more, but he's got like a personal vendetta, I guess.
- 8:22Kirstie, Kirstie Kirsten. What the fuck is Kirstie?
- 8:24Kirstie, but I can't with that name.
- 8:28They've she's, he's got like a vendetta against Kirstie.
- 8:31I agree with what you're saying, but the thing that I have
- 8:34learned about this series is that nobody gets it other than
- 8:38Clive Barker. And I feel like that has to
- 8:39like, frustrated. I'm like at least the general
- 8:42audience. Everybody's like all Pinhead.
- 8:43He's the serial killer. And then like Clive's like, no,
- 8:46he's like he was a human. You know he turned himself into
- 8:48a demon because he was doing some not good shit.
- 8:51And they even kind of addressed that in this one.
- 8:53Yeah, I know. And everybody's like, Oh no,
- 8:55he's he's the killer. He's the serial killer.
- 8:57He's a bad guy. He didn't even like, he's not
- 8:59even supposed to be the main villain of the franchise.
- 9:01It was supposed to be Julie. Yeah.
- 9:04Or Julia. Yeah, Julia.
- 9:05Yeah, and she definitely comes across as like she comes across
- 9:09as the main villain in this and this Cinebite through secondary.
- 9:12But even then, I think people walk away from this movie like
- 9:15Cinebites. They're real bastards.
- 9:20The next one they will tear your soul apart again.
- 9:25That's got Halloween 2. Five, I was going to say the
- 9:27night he came home again, or rather, the night he was still
- 9:30home. No, it's the night he came home
- 9:33again. I know, I'm saying more
- 9:35accurately the night he was still home.
- 9:38Oh yeah, yeah. And we've talked about this
- 9:40extent. That's what started the whole
- 9:41tagline thing. Yeah, it was, yeah, because it
- 9:44was so bad. I think it's just a product of
- 9:46this era, man. I'm sure there are plenty of 80s
- 9:49taglines that are really good. But get it because it's a
- 9:51circle. Yeah, I just think the horror
- 9:54movie ones are just kind of lackluster, like the franchise.
- 9:57Ones they're like nobody's here for a tagline man must accept it
- 10:01I'm. Just going to be be upfront,
- 10:02none of the rest of these are that good.
- 10:03Oh boy, the next one is the word continues.
- 10:06That literally any movie. OK.
- 10:08And Clive Barker takes us on a descent into dot dot dot.
- 10:13Heck. Heck, heck bound heck.
- 10:17Bound. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:19And that's it. OK.
- 10:20Yeah. All right.
- 10:22So I have fun facts. Fun facts.
- 10:24So this movie was greenlit. During post production of the
- 10:28first film, Clive was offered the role of director again, but
- 10:33he declined because he didn't exactly have the best experience
- 10:36directing the first movie. Said it was extremely stressful.
- 10:40They brought in Rendell though, because he had experience with
- 10:43Clive and he also edited the first film.
- 10:45If there's anything that I've worn in editing is a good career
- 10:48path to becoming a director. Sure seems like.
- 10:51Especially whenever you're working in the industry, that's
- 10:53that seems to be the way to get in right there.
- 10:56Because you kind of have to understand what story is being
- 10:59told when you're editing. Larry, the stepdad from the
- 11:02first one, was originally supposed to be a part of this
- 11:04movie, but the actor Andrew Robinson declined to return.
- 11:09So they there was some things up in the air about why, but he
- 11:13ended up doing an interview where he just says that he
- 11:15didn't like the script. Oh, and he just really wasn't
- 11:18interested in it. The most simple of all reasons.
- 11:21Yeah, so the movie would have played out pretty much the same,
- 11:24except he would have been in hell with Frank, refused to him.
- 11:30And whenever Kirstie would make it to hell and finds Frank in
- 11:34this movie, they would be there and Frank would try to attack
- 11:38Kirstie which would cause Larry to cut himself apart from Frank.
- 11:43So it's like a conjoined twins situation, yeah.
- 11:46Yeah, they would just battle it out and then Frank would, I
- 11:51guess, die in that situation. He would escape with them.
- 11:54He is the one that kills Julia and then he's also the one that
- 11:59escapes with Kirsty from the hospital in the end instead of
- 12:01Tiffany. So yeah, they just kind of had
- 12:05to retool some parts of the scripts because it seemed like
- 12:07it was a very late, like it happened late in the production
- 12:13or the pre production of the movie.
- 12:15So they had to like really hurry up and shift all that around.
- 12:18There was supposed to be a deeper dive in the pin heads of
- 12:20war. Just like the first movie.
- 12:21He was going to go into it but they ended up scrapping it
- 12:23because the budget of the movie got slashed during production.
- 12:27Oh, that's not good. Yeah, and I've heard Doug
- 12:30Bradley talk about this on The Last Drive and before, because
- 12:33he was on the episode of Hellraiser 2 talking about it.
- 12:37And apparently they had this happen during production and it
- 12:41really just kind of shifted things.
- 12:42And they ended up having to just speed up production because the
- 12:46shooting days last a lot longer than anticipated.
- 12:49And it ended up being in a way more stressful work set than
- 12:53they had expected it to be. Kenneth Cranham, the guy that
- 12:56plays Schunard, he only did the role because his grandson
- 13:00really, really campaigned for him because he was a huge fan of
- 13:03the first movie. There were a couple of scenes
- 13:05that were deleted from the movie.
- 13:07The first one was a surgery scene.
- 13:09This was a very famous scene amongst people that were fans
- 13:13because this was when they got deleted.
- 13:15However, they had done some production photos of it and they
- 13:19ended up actually using it in advertising and some covers
- 13:22included this too. And it was a scene of Pinhead
- 13:27and Deep Throat, Pinhead and Scrubs, Deep Throat.
- 13:30Also in Scrubs. They it was a dub, the surgery
- 13:32scene because people just kind of speculated that's what it was
- 13:35and everybody wanted to know what happened to it or where it
- 13:38was or why it wasn't in the movie.
- 13:40And then it eventually got released as a part of Arrow's
- 13:44release. When they did the Hell Raiser
- 13:45movie, it wasn't actually a surgery scene.
- 13:47It was just a scene where Kirsty and Tiffany bump into Pinhead
- 13:52and Deep Throat dressed like that and like they end up just
- 13:54chasing them, so it's not anything like that.
- 13:57Scooby-doo. Scooby-doo High jinks.
- 14:00Yeah, scooby-doo Ish. The second one was one with the
- 14:02engineer. You know, the engineer chasing
- 14:05the engineer was in the first one, but they kind of cut him
- 14:07out of this one, which I was kind of surprised because I was
- 14:09expecting to see the engineer in this movie again.
- 14:12And then the third one, Julia was supposed to be one of the
- 14:16heads on the hell pillar at the end of the movie.
- 14:19However, the actor that placed her, Claire Higgins, requested
- 14:23to not be involved in that because she did not want to be
- 14:26involved in any future movies. OK, so they ended up cutting
- 14:29that out and that's it. That's it for the fun facts.
- 14:34OK, All right, so that's it for all of that fun.
- 14:38Let's get into some new fun. Before we go into our goodbye
- 14:41ugly and absurd, I've got one final tidbit for Pride month.
- 14:44And this is unfortunately an upsetting tidbit and part of the
- 14:47reason why we are donating all our profits to the Trevor
- 14:50Project. So the government basically
- 14:54forced Samsa's hand. They run the 988 national
- 14:59suicide crisis hotline. They forced them to eliminate
- 15:03option 3, which was for LGBTQ plus youth and they didn't even
- 15:07allow them to use the TQ plus the TQ part of the acronym in
- 15:12the announcement that those that that line was going to be cut.
- 15:17So things like the Trevor Project and Trans Lifeline are
- 15:23now really, really depending on, you know, donations from folks
- 15:28like us. So that's not the happiest note
- 15:32to end Pride Month on. And the timing of that
- 15:37announcement feels very deliberate.
- 15:39Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 15:40So that is, yeah, that's what I unfortunately have to share with
- 15:48you all this week. Well, and let's let's brighten
- 15:50it up a little bit. Thanks everybody for donating
- 15:52yes to that because you know, everything, every little bit
- 15:56helps, even if it's not like a big amount.
- 15:58It's one raindrop never caused the flood or whatever.
- 16:03That's the saying goes to whatever.
- 16:04A raindrop never thinks it caused the flood.
- 16:06Yeah, exactly. And in this case right here, you
- 16:08know, any little bit helps. So I just support and that's all
- 16:12you can do. And at times like this, you
- 16:14know, and we appreciate everybody for, you know, help
- 16:16and support. Yep.
- 16:18All right, so now let's move on over to our good battle in
- 16:22Absurd. Jesse, you kick it off.
- 16:24What do you like about Hell Raiser too?
- 16:27I like that the the story pacing I feel like is a little bit
- 16:32faster, so that's get. Into it a little bit more,
- 16:34because we know what's. Up.
- 16:35Yeah, yeah, we like that. Feels nice.
- 16:39And I think we get some different, more interesting set
- 16:42pieces. And I feel like the the threat
- 16:45level is a little bit higher because it's not just a wicked
- 16:49stepmother, you know, it's a wicked stepmother plus the
- 16:52Cenobites, plus this evil doctor, plus this other doctor
- 16:56that looks like Screech from Saved by the Bell.
- 16:57He does look like Screech. Yeah, that's that's one of the
- 17:01things I liked about this too. So those, those are my main
- 17:05thing. Like we, we get a much bigger
- 17:07cast to work with. It feels like even like with the
- 17:09extras, they, they feel like they serve purpose, you know, So
- 17:15I think it ramps up the action in that way a little bit.
- 17:21This one is my favorite of the ones that I've seen.
- 17:24I've only seen three of them so far.
- 17:26I've seen the first, this one, and then the newest 1, the
- 17:29remake one that came in on Hulu. And I love this one because I'm
- 17:33with you. It gets going a little bit
- 17:36sooner. We already know what's up.
- 17:37We start off seeing the Jesus web scene, which is one of the
- 17:41coolest scenes from the first movie and the fact that in the
- 17:45first movie it was really self-contained in the house for
- 17:48the most part. It's a lot of weird shit going
- 17:50on. But like, you know, we saw that
- 17:53there was potential for even more weirdness to happen.
- 17:56And then in here we get to go straight to hell.
- 17:58And I think that's what this movie needed.
- 18:00It's really just busted open the war and everything.
- 18:06I like that even though we don't get a full back story on the
- 18:09Cinderbytes, we at least get that moment of showing that they
- 18:13were once human, which I think is a real it's I wouldn't say
- 18:16like a gut punch, but like it adds some to everything there
- 18:21because it just I mean, you see them in the first movie, you
- 18:24think they're just monsters and they are.
- 18:27They're so scarcely that you don't really know what to make
- 18:31of them. And then you become a little bit
- 18:33more familiar with them here. And even then to see that they
- 18:36have a villain themselves with the Leviathan and the
- 18:40introduction of a new synabyte. That's my favorite part when
- 18:44they have Schnard. The like the addition of Schnard
- 18:46in this movie is so good. I love that character so much.
- 18:50This guy that's just obsessed with the woman configuration.
- 18:53He's obsessed with hell. He's like just questioning
- 18:56whether or not it's like a completely like his death and
- 18:594th dimension or whatever. He's super curious and then he
- 19:02gets to actually see like the God of hell or whatever and he
- 19:06becomes a super powerful cinebyte that just destroys
- 19:10Pinhead and like all the other Cinebytes there too.
- 19:13Doc look and motherfucker. Yeah, but it's so cool.
- 19:16I love it so much. That is a great design.
- 19:19Like the designs of everything here.
- 19:21That's all Clive Parker, right? He did all this like it's
- 19:25perfect. It's so well done.
- 19:27I love it so much. OK.
- 19:29Now what do you not like? As much as I feel like we got to
- 19:32the action faster and it kept the pacing up a little bit, I do
- 19:35feel like some of that tension dies a little bit, ironically,
- 19:38when they get to hell because it's a lot of going back and
- 19:41forth in hallways. It's like a maze.
- 19:43Pretty much, yeah. And I just it needed a little
- 19:47bit more oomph in those parts. OK.
- 19:51So I have, you know, I think it would have been interesting to
- 19:54have them explore their own personal health a little bit
- 19:57more. Also that, yeah.
- 19:59But we see Franks, which, you know, I like his idea of hell,
- 20:03which is basically like these women that are like moaning and
- 20:06just basically they're to tease them the entire time.
- 20:08You can't have anybody. And the ultimate horny on Maine.
- 20:12Yeah, and they're like, bloody too.
- 20:14They're disgusting. It shows how much of A freak he
- 20:17is, I guess. My bad.
- 20:19Yeah. Your bad, not bad.
- 20:21No, I'm not bad. You know, I think it takes a
- 20:23long time to get Shannard to be a cinder bite, which, you know,
- 20:27the build up isn't necessarily terrible, but I don't exactly
- 20:32know why he became 1. You know, like she serves him up
- 20:35to the leviathan and he just kind of gets sucked up into the
- 20:39box and becomes was it because like it saw his potential or
- 20:44something like that? I don't know.
- 20:45We like there's so many questions that are left
- 20:47unanswered in this movie and I feel like they wanted to address
- 20:50a lot of them, but they couldn't because of the budget cuts.
- 20:53But like, I'm still left not entirely sure what happens
- 20:58whenever I watch this movie. I just know that I like what I'm
- 21:01seeing and it's all super interesting, but I'm I'm never
- 21:06fully sure what happened. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:10You agree with that, Yes, OK. I this is it's going to be
- 21:14interesting going through the notes because the plot of this
- 21:17movie can be told in like 2 sentences.
- 21:20Pretty much, yeah. I mean, you could really
- 21:22summarize this thing. You can clip notes it super
- 21:24easily. Yeah.
- 21:25What? You're ugly.
- 21:26Oh, this doctor sucks, Shannard. He's such a bad doctor.
- 21:29He's so manipulative and he definitely violates the
- 21:34Hippocratic Oath. And he's a creep in a schizoid
- 21:38even. Like held a mentioned obsession
- 21:40aside. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:43The way that he treats Tiffany especially.
- 21:44Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty disturbing.
- 21:47Yeah. I mean, I guess I could go along
- 21:48with you with that too. I'm also just seeing all this
- 21:50imagery of like, all of this torture shit that's happening
- 21:53here and holy hell, it's some really disturbing stuff.
- 21:57I mean, holy hell. Oh God, what a good tagline.
- 22:01Holy hell, holy hell. Maybe.
- 22:03That'll be our tagline right there.
- 22:04We'll just go ahead and put a pin in that.
- 22:06One note to self. Yeah, I don't know.
- 22:11There's just there's a lot of not good dudes and dudettes in
- 22:14this film. It's a lot of people taking
- 22:16advantage of people. We get Julia basically doing the
- 22:20same thing that Frank did in the first movie, just having Schnard
- 22:23bring all these women into his home.
- 22:26And again, in his case, it's a bunch of patience.
- 22:29He brings patience and makes them die on the bed and let her
- 22:33like consume them. Is sacrificing human beings to
- 22:38re flesh your booty call the gateway drug to becoming a
- 22:43cynobite? I thought you were going to say,
- 22:45is that a Dick move? Is that a Dick move?
- 22:48I'm genuinely asking here. Like, is it like it's a booty
- 22:51call? Guys, I remember she's super
- 22:53hot. She looks fantastic in that no
- 22:55skin white outfit. That's actually the disturbing
- 23:00part to me. That's the obvious part.
- 23:02OK, When she wears that suit, that white suit with no skin and
- 23:07it's just all bloodied up, Oh my God, it makes me good every
- 23:11single time I see it. Has to hurt the nerves.
- 23:14It makes, it hurts my nerves. It hurts all right.
- 23:19What do you have for your absurd?
- 23:20OK, so I've got two. I'm glad I wrote these notes
- 23:23down. So the first one is there is a
- 23:27motivational book and an accompanying animated video
- 23:32called Who Moved My Cheese? And it's got like, Who Moved My
- 23:38cheese? It's incredibly corny, but part
- 23:41of it is that the two, like, guys that are supposed to have
- 23:45their shit together and like, they were, you know, dude, like
- 23:48it's a Goofus and Gallant type of situation.
- 23:50You know, they're running around in a maze the whole time.
- 23:56And the upshots we kept getting of hell with like, the maze like
- 23:59configuration, like the whole time.
- 24:01It just came here. And then the other is that
- 24:08everybody's like really fucking into blood in this movie.
- 24:11Yeah. It's like upsetting.
- 24:13Keeping these bloody mattresses that are so squishy with blood
- 24:17even. There's a purpose for that.
- 24:19I think it's just because. I know, yeah, I understand the
- 24:22purpose of it. But think about living in the
- 24:25world and you're like cool bloody mattress.
- 24:27Or like Kirsty, who sees blood appear on the wall of her dead
- 24:30father begging for help and she like touches a dab of it.
- 24:33And it's. Oh yeah.
- 24:35Yeah, like there's a lot people are really into blood for not
- 24:38being vampires. That's true.
- 24:41And I don't know how we haven't done a vampire movie in Pride
- 24:44month yet. Whoa.
- 24:46I thought about doing like one of the like, lesbian vampire
- 24:49movies at some point. It's just I haven't watched a
- 24:52lot of those, so I don't really know where to go with it.
- 24:55I mean dude, even Dracula, he has like a total stake in his
- 24:59pants for Jonathan Harker. Like are you saying what the
- 25:03original Dracula? The one from the 30s?
- 25:04I'm reading the book right now, yeah.
- 25:06That's right. We did watch that a long time
- 25:08ago. Yeah, that's.
- 25:09OK, Bela Lugosi. I have a hard time watching
- 25:11movies that old. I'm sorry.
- 25:13I'm just being real and I know that that might make people mad,
- 25:15but that's just the reality of the situation.
- 25:19OK my absurd is the fact that this guy here Kyle is so ready
- 25:27to believe this person that has been admitted in a like mental
- 25:31health institution that people from hell are out together.
- 25:36He's like, you know what? OK.
- 25:38He's like, you were right. Yeah.
- 25:40Like, I just don't get why he's so quick to believe her about
- 25:44it. Also, it's just seeing Doug
- 25:47Bradley in that military uniform.
- 25:49He doesn't look intimidating. He's just like this scrawny
- 25:52little. He's not bald yet either, which
- 25:54is weird. I I think it's weird seeing Doug
- 25:55Bradley. It feels illegal.
- 25:57I don't like it. It's like whenever I see Vin
- 25:59Diesel with stubble on this and like don't get get rid of that.
- 26:02The Fast and the Furious 2003 always throws me off like I can.
- 26:08You got 5:00 shadow on that head, bub.
- 26:09Yeah, it's it's. We're not into that.
- 26:12No, we're not into that. OK, then what do you rate this
- 26:15movie? Give it a 6 1/2.
- 26:21OK, I know you're not really big into these, which has always
- 26:24shocked me because I know you're such a huge Clive Barker fan.
- 26:26I like, I don't know what it is, they just it's something about
- 26:32and. It's like not he's not like he's
- 26:34not involved in the movies. Either.
- 26:36He's super involved in the movies.
- 26:38Maybe maybe I just prefer his writing style versus what it
- 26:42comes across. Could be.
- 26:44On on film, yeah. Right.
- 26:48Yeah, I mean, I I think this movie is fantastic.
- 26:51I would give it a nine. OK, OK, so we give 7.75. 7.75
- 26:59All right, you ready to do it? Yeah.
- 27:05So we open up with Jesus worked. Yeah, I wrote Stretchy Face.
- 27:10Frank. Yeah.
- 27:11That's the best Frank. Actually, that's my favorite
- 27:13Frank, Yeah. The the frank now in flexiform
- 27:18we also get our What's your pleasure so.
- 27:20Yeah, it's like Christy sending the cinder bites away.
- 27:23It's basically just the ending of the first movie.
- 27:26That's all we got. Yeah, here.
- 27:28And then we cut to Sweaty Doug with a box.
- 27:30I really should have been in charge of naming the scenes on
- 27:32DVD. Yeah, you know how like on older
- 27:35DVDs, like all of the scene title, all of the scenes had
- 27:38titles. Yeah.
- 27:39So we get stretchy. Think for a stretchy, stretchy
- 27:43face Frank and then sweaty Doug with a box.
- 27:45So you would make those different scenes.
- 27:46So if you hit the skip scene, you would just skip. 5 seconds.
- 27:49Yeah, 10 seconds. Yeah, OK.
- 27:51You know, some people would love that.
- 27:52Some people would hate that. Travis, do we need to go pull
- 27:55out my room? Blu-ray and us read all of the
- 27:59chapter titles that Tommy Wiso made for The Room because some
- 28:04of those chapters are about 30 seconds.
- 28:06Yeah, but is that really helping your case, considering it was
- 28:09Tommy Wiseau? I'm just.
- 28:10Saying it can happen and Tommy Wiseau is influential to me.
- 28:14Well, anything. Tommy's Tommy Wiseau has told me
- 28:17that anything can happen. Yeah, I own a pair of underwear
- 28:20from the man. That's just so strange.
- 28:23Yeah, and that wasn't even supposed to happen that way
- 28:24either. I.
- 28:25Know. Also, that man's idea of a small
- 28:28is frightening. Anything can happen.
- 28:32I'm finished. Like you call in to complain
- 28:38like Tommy, like I ordered underwear and you gave me a
- 28:40blue. Hey, anything can happen.
- 28:44OK, So we get the same guy. OK?
- 28:48Yeah. Doug Bradley.
- 28:49This is my head Cam. I forgot it's been so long since
- 28:51we watched this, but Doug Bradley in this movie Human Form
- 28:55is Menard from Fucking Wrong Turn 5.
- 29:00Same character. I'm saying head cannon.
- 29:03It's the shared universe. Whatever.
- 29:06No, we got chinard in this movie.
- 29:08Also there's there's there's some cross wires.
- 29:12Going here? Oh boy.
- 29:14All right, so he's fucking with the one make configuration and
- 29:16it opens and then he gets hooked and then we see his
- 29:18transformation in the pin head. Sweet suffering, Yep.
- 29:22Christie or Kirstie wakes up. She's in the mental institution.
- 29:25Yeah, she's greeted by a man sitting in the corner.
- 29:29Bronson with homicide. Yeah, he's dead, Detective.
- 29:32He said Steve's OK. That's all we get to see if this
- 29:35this week, this movie. That's the boyfriend, right?
- 29:38Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:39Steve. Don't worry about him.
- 29:40He's not going to be in the movie.
- 29:41Yeah, we no Steve, Steve, free zone.
- 29:44Yeah, we are steveless. We are without Steve.
- 29:48It is summertime. We are sleeveless.
- 29:51We are steveeless. I'm on a lot of medication right
- 29:55now, guys. So he was at the house and the
- 29:59cops, we, we see the cops there, they're investigating the crime
- 30:02scene and they find the corpse in the basket with this.
- 30:05Not just a corpse. Frank I.
- 30:07Believe a maggoty corpse. Yeah, it's super disgusting.
- 30:11They shoot another corpse. He, like, falls onto them, yeah.
- 30:15Yeah, and that's how you want a police officer to react when
- 30:18circled is just by blasting. Bang, bang, bang.
- 30:21Yeah. And then?
- 30:23Do you think this cop refuses to wear a body Cam?
- 30:27He would just conveniently turn it off.
- 30:29Yeah, oh man, the footage got corrupted.
- 30:31That's so weird. Yeah.
- 30:31It just happens, man. The darnest thing anything
- 30:34happened The. Footage is the only thing
- 30:35corrupted here. Yeah, that's the only thing.
- 30:39The cop asked Ronson about the bloody mattress and he just
- 30:42tells him tagging this evidence. Whatever.
- 30:48Which is so funny because there was a massacre in that house.
- 30:50Like do we need to do something with bloody mattress?
- 30:52Who the fuck cares? Too sick?
- 30:55Yeah. OK, so we see the doc.
- 31:00This is Shannard. He's performing brain surgery.
- 31:02And well, hold on, because Kirstie overhears that on the
- 31:06walkie and she tells Ronson she's like, the mattress has to
- 31:08be destroyed. It absolutely has to be
- 31:10destroyed. So she's freaking out.
- 31:12She's she's paying attention. Yeah, so, OK, Shannard's over
- 31:15there performing brain surgery. He's called away and he goes and
- 31:20he checks on Kirsty and he requests to be able to speak
- 31:24with her alone. This is when I think Kirsty
- 31:28warns. After their talk, Kirsty warns
- 31:30Ronson that Julia can be revived through the mattress.
- 31:33Yeah, McCray goes in and he talks to Kirsty and gives her a
- 31:38sedative to help her sleep. So Kirsty is walking down the
- 31:42hall and she sees somebody in one of the rooms putting a
- 31:45puzzle together. This is Tiffany.
- 31:48That's not her real name. That's just what everybody calls
- 31:50her because she hasn't spoken in six months.
- 31:52Now, here's the thing. Here's the thing.
- 31:55They say she's an unnamed patient, so everybody just
- 31:57refers to her. Here's Tiffany, But we see
- 31:59flashbacks. That's her mom bringing her in.
- 32:01Did her mom not know her name? Her mom probably didn't care to
- 32:04name her. She probably hasn't she.
- 32:06Was never given a name. She was probably never given a
- 32:08name, honestly. You girl.
- 32:11Yeah, she's there for six months.
- 32:13They've been say she has some family too.
- 32:15Maybe they're just lying about her records because I mean if
- 32:17her mom dropped her off she has family.
- 32:19Yeah, Shannara's doing some shady shit.
- 32:21Yeah, but pretty much all she does is just like, soft puzzles
- 32:24all day. Which, you know, I think we kind
- 32:27of can gather that Shannar probably kept her because he
- 32:30knows her. She's probably capable of
- 32:33solving the limit configuration. But Kirsty sees this is when she
- 32:37gets the image of what she thinks is Larry riding in blood.
- 32:43I'm in hell. Help me.
- 32:44Yeah, I am in hell. Help me.
- 32:46She like, kind of closes her eyes and like, shakes it away,
- 32:49but the blood stays on the wall and it is still wet.
- 32:54Even so, Shannard is at the hospital and he goes to the
- 32:59basement floor, which he describes as being populated
- 33:01with the screamers. Dude, yeah, this is an upsetting
- 33:06scene. And this is like where they take
- 33:08the most severe cases with the patients down there.
- 33:10We got a guy that is just obsessed with like he thinks
- 33:14that bumps are crawling all over him.
- 33:16And this kind of makes. Me sad, yeah.
- 33:18I mean, well, he has like a really sad fate here, but
- 33:21there's like a lot of really just disturbing, upsetting cases
- 33:25down there. Meanwhile, Kirsty is talking to
- 33:27Kyle McRae about her father. He's listening and he steps out
- 33:33to go talk to Shannard and he overhears him telling Cusick to
- 33:36bring the bloody mattress to his house.
- 33:39Then he recounts the first the tales.
- 33:43He recounts the tales of the first movie to Shannard,
- 33:45basically. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:47Gives us a little recap for anybody that didn't pay
- 33:49attention the first time around. Yeah, here's a little bit of
- 33:51exposition, babies. So Mccrae finds, and here's
- 33:56where I was not sure. Was this his office in the
- 33:58hospital or was this Shannard's personal home?
- 34:00The set. The set was not very clearly
- 34:03delineated. I think it's part of the office.
- 34:05There's a name given to this room.
- 34:07It's called the obsession room. This is where he has all things
- 34:11where like about his obsession with like Hell and the limit
- 34:14configurations where he has like the three of them lined up
- 34:17there. It kind of feels like our
- 34:20recording room because it's got all of our horror memorabilia in
- 34:23there. Yeah, it's a little bit like
- 34:25that. I think ours is a little bit
- 34:27less sinister just. Yeah, we're not trying to go to
- 34:29hell. Yeah, we're not trying to yet.
- 34:33We've got that on lock, baby. Yeah, cuz I was confused too cuz
- 34:37I also wrote like Kyle sinks into the house, but it's not the
- 34:40house, but he sees the evidence there.
- 34:42He sees the bloody mattress on the floor.
- 34:44There's various Lament configurations and he finds a
- 34:47binder full of articles and photos on the Death Vortex.
- 34:53But as he's snooping around in there, Shinard brings in the
- 34:55patient that sees bugs all over him into the room.
- 34:59His his name is Braining. Yeah, and he sits him down on
- 35:02the mattress and he basically just starts feeding into his
- 35:06delusion and just allows him to. He hands him a razor.
- 35:10He's like, all right, cut into your chest.
- 35:12Go ahead and cut all your skin off.
- 35:14This is actually very reminiscent of the trailer we
- 35:18watched for the perfection that got us to watch the movie.
- 35:22Yeah, she tells. She's like, Oh my God, there's
- 35:24bugs crawling all over you. You gotta.
- 35:25You guys know that. Yeah.
- 35:26Yeah. The knife, Yeah, that was pretty
- 35:29good. Yeah.
- 35:30Yeah. And right here he's just like
- 35:32slicing away at his skin, bloods pouring onto the mattress and
- 35:36then after a certain point like the mattress just like absorbs
- 35:39him and like she like. Arms pop out.
- 35:42Yeah, she crawls out, we get skinless Julia here writhing
- 35:45around on the floor, and then she crawls over to the patient
- 35:48and just consumes all of his blood or life force or whatever
- 35:52you call it. Yeah, Mccrae sees all of this
- 35:55and he sneaks out, and then Julia looks at Chenard and asks
- 36:01for help. Please.
- 36:04She then takes Julia to his house and he gives her clothes.
- 36:09This. Is when because she's cold?
- 36:10Yeah, because she has no skin. Yeah, I don't know how you
- 36:14tolerate existing like that. That's got to be just constant
- 36:18pain the entire time. It's stabiless.
- 36:21Julia is skinless, yeah. It's disgusting man, I hate it.
- 36:26This is the most upsetting scene to me because he is like all
- 36:29right, just go get dressed. He probably doesn't have any
- 36:31women's clothes so she just goes in there and puts on his white
- 36:34suit. Why did she did the IT?
- 36:36Was a conscious. Decision it was because I know
- 36:40he's got that. Motherfuckers got a tan suit
- 36:42somewhere in there. He's got a tan suit.
- 36:44He's got a fucking black suit. He's wearing one right now.
- 36:47I'm looking up. He's wearing a black suit.
- 36:48He could have had it. Or maybe he wore them one black
- 36:50suit he owned that day. I don't know either way.
- 36:54So this is where they just like, embrace.
- 36:56They kiss. Yeah.
- 37:00He wraps her up in bandages and now, thankfully, we don't have
- 37:04to look at that image anymore. I called them the Goodnight
- 37:07mommy smoochies. Yeah, it's just a whole scene
- 37:11that follows of him just gathering women and they bring
- 37:15her or bring them back to the room and we just see like
- 37:18several people dead. And because Mccrae has witnessed
- 37:22all of this, he goes back to Kirstie and says, all right, I
- 37:28believe that what you're saying is true.
- 37:29I'm going to get you out of here.
- 37:33And she's like, well, I need that box and I need some
- 37:38clothes. And he said, I can get you
- 37:40clothes. I'm a doctor.
- 37:41Yeah, it's one of the specialties.
- 37:43I would love to see him and Lawrence Gordon, a doctor
- 37:47together in a room that. 'D be a toxic, yeah, toxic
- 37:50fucking hospital right there. Yeah, they leave and she's her
- 37:54whole plan is she wants to go and get Larry out of hell.
- 37:58Yeah, we come back to Julia. She's getting a $6 million man
- 38:02montage. We can rebuild her.
- 38:04We have the hell technology and the music I wrote sounds like a
- 38:09very like very sad Danny Elfman style.
- 38:13Oh, I could see that. Yeah, that would fit so well
- 38:16with this movie here, Kirstie, Wait, wait.
- 38:20No. Yeah, no Kirstie McRae at the
- 38:22house. Yeah, they find the house, and
- 38:24then while there, Julia finds Kyle.
- 38:27Yeah, Kirstie recognizes Pin Head.
- 38:29She sees the photo of old Pin Head and I think she recognizes
- 38:33that that was him. Yeah, then she also finds Julia,
- 38:37and Julia says I'm no longer the wicked stepmother, I'm the Evil
- 38:42Queen. Yes, bitch.
- 38:45Yeah, and she devours Kyle and she completes her transformation
- 38:50at that point. Then I just wrote cool Shannard
- 38:54has Tiffany cuz we know this will go well.
- 38:56Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think we all knew what
- 38:59was gonna happen the second we saw that character.
- 39:01Yeah, we she was set up to be abused, unfortunately.
- 39:06So she is doing the puzzle and she solves it to the tune of an
- 39:12indoor hurricane and walls opening and Cinnabites
- 39:15approaching. And then I have a bone to pick
- 39:20with Mr. Head here because the Cinnabites are ready to take
- 39:26Tiffany and Mr. Head says no. And Deep Throat is like, but she
- 39:35has solved the box. And Mr. Head says it is not
- 39:42hands that call us but desire. What the fuck?
- 39:45First of all, first of all, Chrissy doesn't desire this
- 39:48right now. I mean, she wants to get to her
- 39:50father, but she's not desiring the son of eyes.
- 39:52Second of all, she didn't desire.
- 39:54Like she didn't desire to be pulled into hell in the first
- 39:57movie either. And you still came and you're
- 39:58like, you solved the box, you come with us.
- 40:00Boom. BOM Bing.
- 40:01I think you can maybe make an argument that it was the desire
- 40:05of another person attached that caused that.
- 40:08So in the first movie it was Frank or Julia wanting Julia and
- 40:13Frank wanting her to solve it because that was the desire that
- 40:17they had and it was her basically as a tool.
- 40:20Shannara being like using Tiffany as the tool.
- 40:24Like that was the overall intent and purpose.
- 40:27But that doesn't still hold up on a 1 to 1 because in the first
- 40:31movie, if we want to argue that Frank and Julia are using
- 40:34Kirstie as a pawn, the Cenobite still tried to take Kirstie.
- 40:37You would think that Shannar would get his way and be taken
- 40:39since he forced Tiffany to do the puzzle, but no, they still
- 40:42want to take Kirstie. Yeah, you're right.
- 40:44I don't know. I think that the the synabites
- 40:47were bored this day. I think this is, I think if
- 40:49we're talking about Pinhead's human side in this movie, I
- 40:52think this is his human side. Very deeply flawed individual.
- 40:58Yeah, I don't know, maybe like he saw the picture of himself,
- 41:00like, oh shit, yeah, I don't know.
- 41:03I don't know how to explain that.
- 41:04That's just kind of that is what it is.
- 41:05Take it up with Clive. I think it's because they're bad
- 41:07guys. I think it's as simple as that.
- 41:09Aren't they supposed to be bad guys?
- 41:10Aren't they supposed to be like neutral guys?
- 41:13I know they're demons and they're in hell, but like, isn't
- 41:15that the whole point? Like we're not really the bad
- 41:17guys. We're just kind of here because,
- 41:19you know, you guys, you guys called us, You guys showed up at
- 41:22hell. Do you want us to not be hell?
- 41:24I think it's more like we're bad guys, but we're not the worst
- 41:27guys. We're not the worst guys, but
- 41:29we're we're pretty bad guys. That's so like can can you see
- 41:35how the messaging is a little bit mixed up and kind of hard?
- 41:39I can understand why people look at the synabytes like those are
- 41:42the villains of the franchise. Everybody acts like the Lament
- 41:45Configuration is the biggest puzzle in this movie, but really
- 41:48it's the synabite's motivation. I've never seen a fucker
- 41:51struggle with that puzzle. Everybody's yeah, everybody's
- 41:54like boop. Boop boop.
- 41:55It's like maybe. Shannon's just stupid.
- 41:57He yeah, he had like three of them.
- 41:59He still couldn't figure that shit out.
- 42:02But like, you get Tiffany over there and she solves it
- 42:04instantly. And then Kirstie even, she
- 42:05solved it. So Frank fucking solves it.
- 42:08Like, I mean, that's all you need to know.
- 42:10Wasn't Frank like super high when he did it too?
- 42:13Probably. He's always super high.
- 42:15He's what they call him, super high Frank.
- 42:18This is what they call him, super high Frank.
- 42:20That just kind of makes me think he's a stuntman.
- 42:22Like doing like dirt bike jumps or shit.
- 42:25Dude I would go to the like backyard rodeo with super high
- 42:30frank jumping dirt hills. I would, but I would leave as
- 42:35soon as it's over with because I know he's like one of those
- 42:37creeps. I would go up like, hey.
- 42:38Late. Oh yeah, No, absolutely.
- 42:40You sit in the back row for one of Super High Frank's shows,
- 42:42Yeah. Yeah, All right.
- 42:46Where are we? We're in hell now.
- 42:48We we took a big detour. Yeah.
- 42:51Yeah, so Kirstie wakes, finds an empty room.
- 42:53I like how a penis, like, let them explore.
- 42:56Yeah, yeah. It's like, OK, cool man.
- 42:57Like have fun in hell. Yeah, so she grabs A Lumet
- 43:00configuration and runs and then we see as she Tiffany.
- 43:06Tiffany Yeah, this is when we get the the carnival music like
- 43:09it's calling the Tiffany and she follows it.
- 43:11Yeah, this is her personal hell. So Kirstie has a nightmare of
- 43:17home, and that's fun. The Son of Ice appear, and they
- 43:22think that she opened the dimension once again and she was
- 43:25like, looking for her father. And they're like, well, yeah,
- 43:29your father is in his own hell. This is your hell.
- 43:31You guys do not share a hell. Sorry.
- 43:34It's weird because it feels like it's all connected, though.
- 43:37Talia agrees. Did you hear?
- 43:38That yes, she was. That was very adamant.
- 43:42And they she takes the limit configuration and tries to run
- 43:46off, but Pinhead turns it into an object that is very similar
- 43:49in shape as the Leviathan. So this is when he's like, all
- 43:55right, go ahead and explore, have fun, whatever.
- 43:57So Cursy finds Tiffany and tells her that they need to close the
- 44:03box, but Schnard is also there. Like you said, he has a
- 44:08leviathan and he becomes very quickly disenchanted with this
- 44:13whole thing. He was like maybe hell is not
- 44:15what it was all. Practical.
- 44:17It's not that chill, dude. The imagery of that scene, it's
- 44:21like they do a good job with this.
- 44:22They make it look big and grand, even though I know that they
- 44:25were working with a really limited budget.
- 44:27But like, having that Leviathan just up there in the sky
- 44:29spinning, If I were in what I thought was hell and I woke up
- 44:33and I saw that, I would be fucking terrified too.
- 44:35I would want no part of it. Yeah, like I don't blame him for
- 44:38suddenly being scared. So they're trying to run back,
- 44:41but Kirstie sees her dad's house and she tells Tiffany to go back
- 44:45and that if Kirstie's not back real soon she's she's got to run
- 44:49home. So Julia.
- 44:51Julia pushes Shannard into the Leviathan and meanwhile Kirstie
- 44:56and Tiffany are trying to run back and as they're running
- 45:00back, Kirstie sees her dad's house and thinks this is her
- 45:02chance to rescue him. So she tells Tiffany to go on
- 45:05back and to run home if Kirstie doesn't get there real soon.
- 45:10And so she runs to. So Kirstie runs to her dad's
- 45:13house. And of course it's not her
- 45:14fucking dad there. It's.
- 45:17Frank Yep, that's a good twist, though.
- 45:20I like that. I like that it was it's I think.
- 45:22It's kind of predictable. I didn't predict it.
- 45:24I did. It was a good one for me.
- 45:25I liked it. Yeah.
- 45:27And he is just showing her, like all these bodies.
- 45:31He's basically in the morgue, what it seems like.
- 45:32And there's like dead bodies that slide out of the, I don't
- 45:37want the drawers or whatever you want to call.
- 45:38It this scene, this setup, is just begging for like a musical
- 45:43number. Like.
- 45:45I could picture. It you know, I bet that there is
- 45:47a Hellraiser musical and it probably does have a big set
- 45:51piece in this scene. Well done.
- 45:52I'm I'm doing a quick Google Hellraiser musical.
- 46:06No. There's not a hell raiser.
- 46:07Musical. Nope.
- 46:09The thing that comes up is AI art.
- 46:12So gross. Fuck that.
- 46:14That's so weird. There's been musicals of the
- 46:16dumbest shit that you're telling me nobody is like let's do a
- 46:19hell raiser one. That's strange.
- 46:22Well anyways, yeah she is mad at Frank for doing that.
- 46:26She resists them and she ends up igniting the place.
- 46:30Frank. He gets his skin ripped off.
- 46:33Yeah, apparently your second set of skin is a lot more flammable
- 46:37and flimsy than your first set. Yeah, you know, like it's, it's
- 46:41really upsetting here and how like it's just not a good place,
- 46:44I don't think. I am shocked to hear that for
- 46:48one. I am too honestly.
- 46:49Frankly. Yeah, and then Joya, she arrives
- 46:53and then this is when Frank is like, oh, it's a family reunion.
- 46:57And then we of course do get, does he say come to Daddy?
- 47:01I know we get to come to Mama at some point in this.
- 47:04Yes, well, here's the thing. So Julia appears.
- 47:07We say it's a family reunion, but Julia hasn't come alone.
- 47:10She has intercepted Tiffany. Yes, she has brought Tiffany
- 47:13with her. So Tiffany and Kirsty, while you
- 47:18know the fire is going and there's some argument happening,
- 47:21they try and run off and Julia is biting Frank.
- 47:27So hold on, can I, can I ask a question?
- 47:29Yes. Were they insinuating that Frank
- 47:33and Julia are the parents of Tiffany?
- 47:36I don't think so. I thought that that's what they
- 47:38were trying. To do no, I think Tiffany was an
- 47:40afterthought. I think they're just referring
- 47:42to Kirstie, Frank and Julia being there.
- 47:44OK, because that could have been a cool reveal right there
- 47:46considering she had no family and then her family is like the
- 47:48two worst people you ever. Knew, but she does have family.
- 47:51Her mom is also the worst. Yeah, Julia, maybe.
- 47:55Oh. My God OK sorry.
- 47:57Tiffany got separated and Julia grabs at her but then she is
- 48:01being pulled out of her. Skin.
- 48:04Yeah, because it's just like a wind tunnel.
- 48:06Because once again, as we literally just established with
- 48:09Frank, your second set of skin a lot easier to lose than the
- 48:12first set. Don't.
- 48:13Don't lose that first set, yeah? Like the first set, you have to
- 48:16like, solve the Lament Configuration, Demons come out,
- 48:19pull it from you in horrific ways, yadda yadda yadda.
- 48:22But that second set, like any like a candle, somebody holding
- 48:24your hand too hard like that, shit's just gonna come right
- 48:27off. This is all a result of Shenard,
- 48:29by the way, because he emerged as a brand new Synabyte.
- 48:32I love his design, it's so cool. It's like a worm that's grabbing
- 48:35his head and just moving him around.
- 48:37It's so good. So they end up back at the
- 48:40hospital and they are wandering around.
- 48:45All the patients are messing with Lament Configurations
- 48:48themselves and Shinard comes in and he just starts squattering
- 48:51all of them. I'm sorry, did you say Shinard?
- 48:54Because I believe my notes have him referred to as a
- 48:58Shinardabyte. Shinardabyte.
- 49:00Nice, that's a good name for him.
- 49:02I wonder if he like dumps himself that and how.
- 49:05Shinardabyte. I mean, I don't know, I don't
- 49:09feel like Chenard is super clippy.
- 49:12He's not one of those. Types.
- 49:13I think you learn the sassiness whenever you become a demon
- 49:15because like Pinhead, it's pretty sassy.
- 49:18I feel like it's probably one of the like, you know, you have
- 49:21various categories, you have to score a big like a certain total
- 49:25points out of all of the categories and the sassiness is
- 49:30only like 10% of the points. So you can fail on it and still
- 49:33get in. OK.
- 49:35So you don't have to be like just finance like an exceptional
- 49:38amount of SAS compared to everybody.
- 49:40Else, yeah, it's kind of like how you know when you're doing
- 49:42your driver's test, if you like fail like the K turn or
- 49:47whatever, it's OK if you do really well at everything else
- 49:49because it's not a make or break portion, but like you can't fail
- 49:52like the parallel parking. Right.
- 49:53You can't. You can't fail like the torture
- 49:56or. Like being into.
- 49:57Like suffering of like you're like your own self or other
- 50:00people suffering. That's super.
- 50:02Important. Which he we saw very big.
- 50:05He's probably better at that than Pinhead was.
- 50:08Yeah. That he was doing, yeah.
- 50:11I wonder if they get to pick their Cinnabite form.
- 50:13Well, I think it's all like it's related to their vice
- 50:17beforehand, right? Because like we see when we see
- 50:20them get turned into their human forms later, you can kind of get
- 50:24why they turned into the Cinnabite that they were I feel
- 50:27like. I don't remember that.
- 50:29I think that you can. Well, maybe it was just me
- 50:31reading into it, I don't know. I like that theory, but I like I
- 50:36would just need to anyway. Right.
- 50:39Kirstie and Tiffany end up finding the rest of the Senator
- 50:41bites and this is where she takes the photo of old Doug
- 50:46Bradley and shows Pinhead picture of what he used to look
- 50:49like and convinces him that you were once human.
- 50:53And they all don't think that it's true until Pinhead
- 50:56adventures. Like wait, I remember he
- 50:59suddenly has flashbacks of himself like in whatever room
- 51:03just saw the one that configuration himself.
- 51:06Shannard interrupts and Pinhead tries to hook him up, but
- 51:11Shannard ends up cutting himself loose and he stabs Deep Throat,
- 51:16then see low by and then the Chatterer.
- 51:19And then he reverts Pinhead to human form and then he ends up
- 51:25just sweating his throat. And then when all of this
- 51:27happens, I think this is when we see them turn into their human
- 51:31selves. I'm sorry but if you thought my
- 51:33Shenardo bite was good, this is the part where I referred to him
- 51:37as Doc OP. Doc OP is good too.
- 51:39That's really. Good.
- 51:40And he this. Yeah, you're right.
- 51:41He kills Pinhead. Tiffany runs for the Lament
- 51:45Configuration and Kersey follows Doc OP pops back up and Kersey
- 51:49gets separated from Tiffany. Julia appears as well and as
- 51:56Julia kisses dark op, Tiffany grabs Lament configuration and
- 52:00solves his head is pulled off. Julia is actually Kirsty wearing
- 52:04Julia's skin and she pulls Tiffany up and as she's like
- 52:07pulling her up that's when the skin comes off again.
- 52:09They run back to the hospital and there are flowers on all of
- 52:13the beds, which is beautiful and symbolic but also what the fuck
- 52:18happened all the patients tell me.
- 52:20Yeah, I don't know. It's not very clear.
- 52:22Like the hospital is just basically empty now.
- 52:24I don't even know how long it's been since they like we're gone,
- 52:27but we just see them leave the hospital together like
- 52:29everything's fine. Yep, and then we see movers at
- 52:33Shannara's house as they're moving stuff, they find the
- 52:36bloody mattress. Yeah, and one of the guys goes
- 52:40to like investigate and like as he leans over to reach shut the
- 52:43mattress, a hand pops up and grabs him.
- 52:45And then the other guy looking for his partner goes upstairs to
- 52:49find him. And then as he walks into the
- 52:51room, we see the hell pillar rise up from the ground.
- 52:53And it's just spinning around this guy pieces of like other
- 52:56cinder bites and just body parts.
- 52:58And then we see the head of the guy that just got sucked in
- 53:01there and the movie ends. There we go.
- 53:07I think I'm still I'll. Keep mine at 9.
- 53:10I like this movie a lot man. I think it's really, really
- 53:12solid. I'm going to keep it at a 6.5.
- 53:14I just, there's a little bit too much brooding, you know what I
- 53:19mean? Yeah, I want a little something
- 53:22more behind the brooding. I think maybe some of the stuff
- 53:25that got cut for time maybe should have been stuff that was
- 53:28left, you know, like if part of this is supposed to be that
- 53:32we're looking at panheads, humans that like we're trying to
- 53:35focus more on the human side of the obsession beforehand.
- 53:38Like, I feel like that would have been more important to
- 53:40focus on besides like going through the individual house,
- 53:44you know? Normally I really don't need to
- 53:46know the history of these people, but I think this movie
- 53:49makes it a little bit different. I am somewhat interested in the
- 53:53history of so these people. I really don't need to know much
- 53:56though. I like knowing that he was a
- 53:58soldier and human at one point was really all I need to know
- 54:00about them. I don't need to know why they
- 54:04ended up there. That could be a whole other
- 54:05movie on its own, but nobody would probably want that because
- 54:09you don't want to have Pinhead without him being Pinhead, you
- 54:11know? So is that what you would
- 54:13change? Yeah.
- 54:14All right. So Talia was pretty sleepy
- 54:18throughout and, you know, she was sleeping and this whole
- 54:21movie kind of feels like a dream or a nightmare.
- 54:24It's a nightmare. So I think that this resonated
- 54:27with Talia. I think she would give it a
- 54:28seven. Yeah, because that rhymes with
- 54:30heaven. Yeah, exactly.
- 54:32I was going to say yeah, Zoe, her ultimate warrior.
- 54:39I think Carl's might worry and this one would be Julia.
- 54:42You think so? She eating them people.
- 54:44So it does eat people. Yeah.
- 54:46Like, not really. But she chews on me sometimes,
- 54:48yeah. Yeah, she's on my lap right now.
- 54:50Yeah, all right. Who's your relate to?
- 54:53I also relate to Tiffany because I like puzzles.
- 54:56OK, I really add to the Shunard obsession room.
- 55:01I like like if you know, there's like a thing that I'm really
- 55:04into, I would like to have like a whole room dedicated to that.
- 55:08And you know, he that's what he did at the end, like a whole
- 55:10room dedicated to like researching this one super
- 55:12interesting subject for him. That's true, he did OK Dream
- 55:18sequel. Yeah, I really want to watch the
- 55:21rest of these movies, especially 3.
- 55:23But yeah, let's see if we were to take it from here on our own.
- 55:27I I want to see Chernard return. Yeah, I want more.
- 55:33How about? How about hell comes to earth?
- 55:36Like they ended up accidentally as a result of what happened
- 55:38last time because they ended up causing the collapse of the
- 55:40leviathan. Maybe it just essentially just
- 55:44teleported all of the shit from hell into reality.
- 55:49Oh I kind of like that idea. Like so random things just start
- 55:52appearing. Like there's like the leviathan
- 55:55that's just in the sky and the city.
- 55:57Yeah, what would you do if you just saw a leviathan like that?
- 56:00Shit my pants. Well, and you know what it is,
- 56:03but like, what if you didn't even know what it is?
- 56:05Shit my pants. I would be fucking scared.
- 56:07OK? I would think it's aliens at
- 56:09first. That's.
- 56:11And then when I saw demons, I would say like, shit, I didn't
- 56:13expect aliens to look like this. This is way scarier than I
- 56:17anticipated. But it's kind of cool to know
- 56:19that they kind of have like human elements to them, like
- 56:21nails. I didn't think aliens would have
- 56:23nails, but they probably do since they also are in advanced
- 56:26life form. Are nails related to being in
- 56:29advanced life form? Pin heads, nails in his head,
- 56:33not like human nails, but like, you know, like nails and screws
- 56:37and tools. I.
- 56:38Mean nails are one of the most simple machines out there.
- 56:40Well, I'm a simple man. OK tagline.
- 56:43Holy hell. I think it is probably the best
- 56:46one we're going to do for this. It's already better than the
- 56:48original. One, it'd either be holy hell or
- 56:50we're bad guys, but we're not the worst guys.
- 56:54We're bad guys, but we're not the worst guys.
- 56:56I kind of like that one too. And I think holy hell, just.
- 57:01Yeah, yeah. OK, let's do.
- 57:03Holy hell. OK.
- 57:05All right, I guess we now go into reviews.
- 57:08Yeah. Indeed we do, yeah.
- 57:10We'll go with a -1 since you're more on the boss side even
- 57:14though you're not. Like 5.
- 57:16Yeah, you're not like the biggest.
- 57:18Song I don't hate this movie. I just, I don't love it at the
- 57:21same level that you do. So this is a 2 out of 10.
- 57:24Awful. Those were rated back in 2006.
- 57:27The original is overrated, but this makes it look like Citizen
- 57:30Kane. With the possible exception of
- 57:32The Howling or The Exorcist. This is the most precipitous
- 57:35drop off in quality of a sequel ever.
- 57:38Good God it's bad. Unpleasant imagery can be
- 57:41powerful if attached to a purpose, and none of it is
- 57:44evident here. The film appears to have been
- 57:46edited together at random and the story is incomprehensible.
- 57:50This has been blamed on Andrew Robinson's well advised refusal
- 57:53to participate in necessitating frantic rewrites as an excuse.
- 57:57This is severely inadequate. Although the best portrayals of
- 58:01the devil tend to be minimalist, see uncredited Dustin Hoffman in
- 58:05The Messenger. Depicting him it as a giant
- 58:09black parallelogram is taking things a bit too far.
- 58:13Pointless. Even the effects have dated
- 58:15badly. The 2 rating is in recognition
- 58:18of the professionalism of Clare Higgins, who decides to have a
- 58:22pretty good go at creating a wicked stepmother for the ages,
- 58:26and the passable entertainment of counting how many times
- 58:29characters run up and down corridors yelling Kirsty Ashley.
- 58:33Who's Ashley? I think he just got mixed up
- 58:37there because that's the actor's name.
- 58:39Oh, OK, yeah. But yeah, that's it, which I can
- 58:44I get that because I said the same thing.
- 58:46I don't really know what I was going down like story wise in
- 58:49this movie. Yeah.
- 58:51I think the imagery though is like it is enough to carry the
- 58:55movie for me. This movie is just more of an
- 58:57experience. I really don't go to this movie
- 58:59for this story. I go to see this like weird shit
- 59:02happening in hell and get like the feels from what I'm
- 59:07observing rather than the story and being.
- 59:09Told I think that's funny because we both have those
- 59:12movies that we enjoy that don't really have a story.
- 59:15They're just more something that you just kind of experience, but
- 59:19they're very different kinds of experiences, you know.
- 59:22So I think that was our similar but reversed argument was like
- 59:25Neon Demon, like you didn't love it so much and you're like,
- 59:29there's you were like, I don't know what the fuck's going on.
- 59:31Like I don't either, but like I'm just enjoying the ride.
- 59:33I well, The thing is, I think you can slide if you enjoy like
- 59:36the other aspects of it. Yeah, too.
- 59:38So like that's the thing. I enjoy a lot of those aspects
- 59:41of this movie to where the story, like it doesn't live and
- 59:45die, live or die on that right there alone.
- 59:48Yeah, OK. All right, so let's do some
- 59:52listener reviews. All right, so we have Michael
- 59:56Michael Lee Howard who says much alike the Texas Chainsaw
- 59:58Massacre franchise. Hellraiser is one of the most
- 1:00:01inconsistent series. Hellbound is an exception in the
- 1:00:04series. Moving off where the original
- 1:00:06Hellraiser ended, we revisit the characters of Kirstie and Julia.
- 1:00:10There is dark magic, body horror, more cinebytes, and a
- 1:00:13fun version of Hell. I always watched Hellraiser and
- 1:00:16Hellbound together. Another disappointment. 8 1/2
- 1:00:19out of 10. That's a good idea.
- 1:00:21Watching them together, that's like doing Halloween one and two
- 1:00:23together. Like the two movies kind of flow
- 1:00:25perfectly. Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:00:27And finally we have Johnny who says it's not a perfect movie
- 1:00:30but it's a ton of fun and always a favorite of mine.
- 1:00:33I remember renting it at Blockbuster to watch at a
- 1:00:35friend's house. Doug Bradley as the hell priest
- 1:00:38Pinhead and the Cinnabites are iconic.
- 1:00:41Our direction was on point, but the pacing misstep.
- 1:00:46I can agree with. That yeah, that's what you said
- 1:00:49too. You said once you get the hell,
- 1:00:50the pacing kind of goes a little bit off the hinges there.
- 1:00:53Yeah. Yeah, I think the Cinnabites
- 1:00:55really do help carry this movie too.
- 1:00:56They are super cool. Yeah, the the story really just
- 1:01:00falls short. I think the pacing, I agree.
- 1:01:02It does kind of like meander there for a bit with the
- 1:01:05hallways, but the things that we do together are so cool that I
- 1:01:10think it makes up for the shortcomings it has.
- 1:01:13I kind of would love a how razor movie that's like in Doctor
- 1:01:16Sleet the book you see a lot more of the True Knot like
- 1:01:21trying to hunt down like special folks with like their own
- 1:01:26Shining or whatever and you get to see a lot more of their
- 1:01:30groups like dynamics and motivations and everything.
- 1:01:33I would love a Hellraiser movie from the Cenobites perspective
- 1:01:35in this similar kind of thing. Like they're trying to entice
- 1:01:39various people to come to hell. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:01:43I think that could be interesting to see, yeah, just
- 1:01:46because that would also give you some Cenobites screen time and I
- 1:01:50think that would be that would get a lot of people interested
- 1:01:53too. That would give a lot of people
- 1:01:54what they actually want all. Right.
- 1:01:57All right, Well, I guess that does it for this week's episode,
- 1:01:59and I guess it does it for Pride Month for the broadcast, doesn't
- 1:02:01it? Yes, there will be a bonus
- 1:02:03episode for Budgeteer patrons this month that you can also
- 1:02:06purchase individually if you don't want to subscribe to the
