- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here and you're about to listen to a hypnosis
- 0:43session all about facing a fear. And I was working with a client
- 0:47that happened to had a fear of driving, particularly on
- 0:50motorways and dual carriageways. And it had become almost the
- 0:57thinking about the problem itself was causing the anxiety.
- 1:01And that creates a self fulfilling prophecy because if
- 1:03thinking about it makes you anxious and anxious creates
- 1:06avoidance and then you never do the thing, you can never call
- 1:10the bluff on that anxiety. So the essence of this hypnosis
- 1:13session is to really prepare the mind to feel capable and willing
- 1:21to experience temporary discomfort, to do the thing in a
- 1:26resourceful way, and by doing so, shatter the very shackles
- 1:31that keep the anxiety in place. You've got to think of it as
- 1:36almost kind of like a if the belief system that causes the
- 1:39anxiety is based on a false belief and avoiding means that
- 1:43you never get to disprove that belief, then the anxiety
- 1:47continues by doing it and doing it until you feel completely
- 1:50comfortable and relaxed. That's the thing that's called
- 1:54the convincer strategy that absolutely shatters the belief.
- 1:58And this client had had experiences.
- 2:00Of just. Feeling I'm just going to do it
- 2:03and fully committing to that thing.
- 2:05And that was things that related to things that most people would
- 2:07consider scary, like large motorcycle jumps.
- 2:11But they committed to the thing, they did the thing, and the
- 2:13anxiety went away. It takes that essence and
- 2:16applies it to the motorway or a Rd. driving, and it uses the
- 2:22essence of what courage is all about.
- 2:24Courage is not the absence of fear, it's the willingness to
- 2:27feel anxious, to feel on edge, to feel that kind of daunting
- 2:32sensation and then just do the thing anyway.
- 2:35And what you tend to find is that the very moment that you
- 2:38don't just tentatively do it, but absolutely commit to the
- 2:41thing, quite often the anxiety disappears immediately and you
- 2:45get the evidence that you can do the thing that you were
- 2:48avoiding. And that's what has that House
- 2:51of Cards come, you know, crumbling down, and then the
- 2:54anxiety doesn't come back. So if you have any form of
- 2:57anxiety that is specifically triggered by one thing, you're
- 3:00going to get some value from this.
- 3:02If you have anxiety linked to the idea of driving, you're
- 3:05going to get more value from this hypnosis and I would
- 3:09encourage you to test this first.
- 3:12If this works, great. If you feel some rogress or you
- 3:16feel a shift or it's not quite calibrated perfectly to you
- 3:19because it was created for someone else, either go to
- 3:23adamcox.co.uk, that's my website, or have a look in the
- 3:26description of this episode and you'll see that you can actually
- 3:30work with me in many different ways, either through my courses,
- 3:33one to one sessions, various things, including accessing a
- 3:37whole archive of every recording that I've ever done.
- 3:40So if that's of interest, check that out.
- 3:42But for now, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:44won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 3:47Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 4:15you breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 4:20relaxation. And as you exhale, that's in.
- 4:27Allow your eyes to close, eyelids feeling heavier, and
- 4:32with your eyes closed, you become more aware of the sound
- 4:37of my voice. Breathing and relaxation and
- 4:44exhaling tension. That's it.
- 4:48And as you breathe in that feeling of relaxation, I want
- 4:55you to get a sense that your body can transition from
- 5:02alertness and vigilance to calmness and relaxation.
- 5:12And the law of dominant effect says that you can't experience
- 5:20conflicting emotions at the same time.
- 5:25So as you breathe in, that feeling of calm, relaxation,
- 5:31tension, stress and worries naturally melt away, enabling
- 5:39you to drift to that place where change can happen easier,
- 5:45quicker and the changes last longer.
- 5:53Scan your body for any clues of tension, perhaps the back of the
- 5:58neck, the jaw, shoulders or arms, and set the intention to
- 6:06release every time you breathe out, releasing anything your
- 6:13body doesn't need. That's it.
- 6:23And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 6:29And the more relaxed you feel the deeper you breathe.
- 6:35Each breath takes you deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 6:43And as your physical body relaxes, your imagination
- 6:48awakens. And as your body settles even
- 6:53more, your mind can begin to listen in a slightly different
- 7:00way. This experience now isn't about
- 7:07removing fear. It's about understanding it,
- 7:14seeing through it, and responding differently to it.
- 7:26For many people, they create a rule either in all parts of
- 7:35their life or just some parts. A rule that says I must feel
- 7:43comfortable or confident before I do the thing.
- 7:51And that rule can feel true. And sometimes it's helpful, but
- 8:02it's not always helpful. And it's not always true because
- 8:13you can see the pattern where this rule can create a loop
- 8:21where if you wait to feel ready but readiness never comes
- 8:27because the readiness is not something that appears first.
- 8:33The readiness is an evaluation when you break the loop.
- 8:40And I wonder if you can imagine for a moment that fear or
- 8:46anxiety is like a voice. A voice that makes predictions,
- 8:55like the boy who cried wolf. What if this happens?
- 9:02What if that happens? And because you don't want this
- 9:08or that to happen, the easiest thing to do is to avoid just in
- 9:15case. And if you never do this or
- 9:20that, it's difficult to see that the wolf is never there.
- 9:29And perhaps for a long time that voice has been treated as truth.
- 9:35But what if it's just a bluff? Some people think of fear as an
- 9:48acronym FEAR, False evidence that appears real.
- 10:00Fear doesn't actually know what will happen, just what may
- 10:05happen. And sometimes the assessment of
- 10:12probability is out of sync with reality.
- 10:20It guesses. It exaggerates, it tries to
- 10:26protect, but it doesn't control reality.
- 10:34And you might begin to realize that fear is loud but not
- 10:42powerful. And there's another part within
- 10:48you, a quieter part but far more reliable.
- 10:55The part of you that has already done difficult things.
- 11:01There are many people, perhaps in your industry that thought of
- 11:09running their own business but never did, just in case
- 11:14something unpleasant happens. They're on the sidelines waiting
- 11:21to feel confident enough, but sometimes that confidence never
- 11:26comes. Or a motorcyclist looking at a
- 11:32jump, waiting to feel ready. But if they never feel perfectly
- 11:38ready, they never do the jump, and they never have evidence
- 11:43that they are capable of doing it.
- 11:49So I want you to activate the part of you that has already
- 11:53done difficult things, already believed in yourself, already
- 12:00fully committed. The part that is driven before,
- 12:04handled pressure, adapted, responded and figured things
- 12:08out. That part of you is never
- 12:12waiting for comfort. It's not waiting for permission.
- 12:18It just needs direction. And I wonder if you could
- 12:25imagine a moment where you feel that familiar hesitation.
- 12:32Perhaps you can imagine a roundabout with several exits,
- 12:37one of them being the exit. And maybe you can imagine a
- 12:43moment where the mind says not yet, not ready, maybe later.
- 12:54And instead of resisting that feeling, you allow it to be
- 12:58there, just noticing it, without needing to change it.
- 13:09But what if, in a moment, even if it's a split second, without
- 13:15waiting to feel ready, you act anyway, Not because you feel
- 13:22confident, but because you've decided I'm just going to do it.
- 13:30Whatever happens will happen. You fully commit.
- 13:38And when you've decided that action is no longer dependent on
- 13:43comfort or certainty, something changes.
- 13:50And as you imagine taking that action, you might notice
- 13:55something surprising. Not only does the fear not stop
- 14:01you, it comes with you and very quickly fades.
- 14:10Some people believe that fear is like shadows, and action and
- 14:15decisions are like light. How quickly the shadows
- 14:21disappear when the light switches on.
- 14:30So imagine that anxiety or fear fading, not all at once, but
- 14:35enough because your brain starts to learn something new.
- 14:42That fear doesn't mean stop. What if it just means you're on
- 14:48the edge of your comfort zone? And that feeling, the feeling of
- 14:58anxiety or fear and choosing to act anyway, that is courage.
- 15:10Can you really call someone courageous if there is No Fear?
- 15:19If they're doing something well within their capabilities and
- 15:22comfort zone? Courage requires challenge.
- 15:32Courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to
- 15:35feel it and move anyway. But what's fascinating, the more
- 15:44you feel the fear and move anyway, the more elusive the
- 15:50fear becomes. I want you to imagine a stretch
- 15:56of Rd. How likely is it that you feel
- 16:01fear or anxiety the 177th time you take that journey?
- 16:10There might be a bit on the 1st, a bit less on the 2nd, and I
- 16:16wonder if it's 5 or 10 or 15 journeys before you don't notice
- 16:20it at all that it doesn't require courage the 17th time,
- 16:29even if it did on the first, second or third.
- 16:35So imagine doing that, and you might begin to notice that every
- 16:41time you feel the fear, you do it anyway, even slightly, even
- 16:48imperfectly. Something shifts.
- 16:53The rule is changing. That rule that you must feel
- 16:57comfortable before you act changes to I act first, knowing
- 17:04that comfort and confidence is the reward, not the
- 17:10prerequisite. And the more you act, the more
- 17:15familiar it becomes, the more normal it feels, until something
- 17:22that once felt difficult becomes routine, predictable, perhaps
- 17:31even boring and mundane. And that's how your brain
- 17:37recalibrates, not through waiting, but through doing.
- 17:47So just imagine one more specific situation, a time where
- 17:53in the past you may have hesitated or avoided, and this
- 18:00time the anxiety becomes the motivation.
- 18:08Because when people make a habit of moving towards their fears,
- 18:15they get less fear, less anxiety, but also achieve more
- 18:21freedom in their life. When you can acknowledge it and
- 18:26you move towards it, more often than not it disappears.
- 18:34And I want you to feel calm enough, focused enough, capable
- 18:38enough. And as you do, you might even
- 18:44feel a quiet sense of satisfaction.
- 18:51Your brain loves dopamine and doing something challenging and
- 18:57coming out the other side is a wonderful way to feel proud,
- 19:02accomplished, liberated. And what if that becomes your
- 19:08new reference point? Courage first, comfort later,
- 19:15not the other way round. And what if from this moment on,
- 19:21that feeling of fear, anxiety, becomes a signal not to stop,
- 19:30but to go? What if fear was never the
- 19:36barrier, the waiting or the avoiding was?
- 19:42And as you hold that thought, I want you to dial up feelings of
- 19:48courage, determination, and a willingness to get more
- 19:57experience doing the very things that you've been avoiding,
- 20:05waiting for the right moment to feel the courage act upon it,
- 20:16and notice how quickly any fear or anxiety disappears.
- 20:24So as you leave this place in your imagination, start to
- 20:27return to the present. Take a deep breath in through
- 20:31your nose and out through your nose.
- 20:35Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate
- 20:40into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 20:46awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 20:52456. More alert 7-8.
- 20:55Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910 Wide awake,
- 21:00Wide awake. Wide awake.
