On page 46 of Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age, Bill W. talks about one of the great paradoxes of AA: out of complete defeat and weakness can come strength, and losing our old way of life can become the beginning of a new one.
Recovery is full of things that seem backwards at first. We surrender and find strength. We admit powerlessness and begin to recover. We give away what was freely given to us and somehow keep it. We face what we were running from and discover freedom on the other side.
