- 0:00Have confidence in yourself and who you are and what you believe
- 0:02you are, that you are worthy and you are somebody because you
- 0:06are. God created you in His image and
- 0:09each one of us is unique and perfect in that way.
- 0:13You are your own person. Be confident in your skin, be
- 0:17confident in what you wear, and don't wear anybody else's
- 0:21problems. Hey everyone, welcome back.
- 0:29I am so excited for my guest today.
- 0:31Leadership doesn't always start in the spotlight.
- 0:35Sometimes it's forged in West TX grit, shaped by faith, and
- 0:39refined through discipline. Today, my guest is the vice
- 0:42president of Martin County Chamber of Commerce and she
- 0:46leads sales and client relations for Alpha Omega Leadership.
- 0:49She's a mom, a wife, She's a friend of mine and I'm excited
- 0:53to have her on the podcast today.
- 0:54Tina Townsend, welcome to More Than Before.
- 0:57How are you today? I'm doing great, Nathan.
- 1:00Thank you for having me on your podcast.
- 1:03I'm looking forward to this. It's going to be great.
- 1:06So I'm curious because it's really fascinating to me that
- 1:10you're a secretary for like 2 months for the Chamber of
- 1:14Commerce and then all of a sudden you're the president.
- 1:17How does that work? Well, well, you see, it happened
- 1:23very quickly. I got involved.
- 1:26I wanted to be involved in Martin County and I grew up
- 1:29there. I went to high school there and
- 1:32it's just, it's kind of home for me, right?
- 1:34So my cousin was actually on the board in Martin County and my
- 1:40best friend. And so we would talk on the
- 1:42phone all the time and she says, I don't know, I'm struggling
- 1:44with this and this and that. And I said, well, I'll help you
- 1:47and what do you need? And we'd bounce ideas off of
- 1:50each other and we would collaborate off of each other.
- 1:52And at this time, stay at home, mom.
- 1:55And I said, I'm, I was bored. And I said, well, hear this,
- 1:58hear that, you know, we're going back and forth.
- 2:00And she said, why don't you just get on the board?
- 2:04Why don't you just join the chamber?
- 2:05And I said, I don't know if it opens up at the beginning of the
- 2:08year, maybe I'll join in. OK, so then next thing I know,
- 2:12she says, hey, our meeting is Monday night.
- 2:14I'm I think you're a board member now or you're on the
- 2:17board. And I said, I said, oh, OK, not
- 2:20the executive board or anything. OK, so we get there and the
- 2:23first meeting, it's one of those, all right, now we need to
- 2:26have our secretary. We need to vote as secretary, we
- 2:27need to vote, you know, all this stuff.
- 2:30And nobody raised their hand except Tina.
- 2:36And I said, I I can take notes, I can do minutes, I'll help.
- 2:40I know, parliament procedure, you know, sort of.
- 2:43I did a lot of it in high school.
- 2:45I said, so I'll do it. And, you know, they say don't
- 2:49open your mouth, don't volunteer because there you go.
- 2:53So that lasted about two months. The vice president resigned.
- 2:56We lost our director at the time.
- 2:58So it was a president and I was the secretary and then we had a
- 3:04treasurer and we needed to restructure, we needed to
- 3:08rebuild and we needed to basically start over.
- 3:11And then they said, well, we need a vice president.
- 3:15And so we got a couple. She recruited a few people.
- 3:17Our president did. She became president.
- 3:19And then I recruited a few people to the board and I said,
- 3:23OK, here we go. And so we have restructured the
- 3:26entire Martin County Chamber of Commerce.
- 3:28I became the vice president. Within that two months they
- 3:31voted me in and it's been a little over a year I believe,
- 3:37and we actually just got an offer letter and a signature out
- 3:41for a director that we never thought we would be able to
- 3:43afford or hire 2 days ago. Wow.
- 3:47That's amazing. We turned it around for sure.
- 3:51It's been a lot of work. I'm curious, the volunteer
- 3:54aspect is really interesting. Have you, have you always been
- 3:56one to kind of step up, volunteer, kind of be that first
- 4:00hand that kind of raises? I don't mind that at all.
- 4:04I enjoy helping other people. I I like to serve.
- 4:08And I think that goes back to my parents when I was younger, our
- 4:12door was always open for whomever.
- 4:15It did not matter. It didn't matter if you had no
- 4:18money, no clothes. It didn't matter if you were the
- 4:20richest person in the county. Our door was always open.
- 4:24And so my parents always say we're not going to turn anybody
- 4:28away. We're always going to have food
- 4:29at our table and anybody can sit at our table to eat with us.
- 4:33We'll do everything we can to serve them, to be kind,
- 4:37considerate. And I kind of live by that, I
- 4:40guess, to this day. Of course, younger, probably not
- 4:42so much as I get older, I think. And my parents were such an
- 4:45influence, you know, and they are so, they are so true.
- 4:50They are so real, so. So where did where did you grow
- 4:54up Tina and and what were you like as a child?
- 4:57Well, I grew up on a ranch. We had two ranches.
- 5:01We had one in Garden City, TX, and then we had one in Midcift
- 5:05area. And my grandmother lived in
- 5:08Midcift, my parents and myself and my sister, we lived in the
- 5:12Garden City Ranch, about 45 miles.
- 5:14And every day my dad worked down at the ranch and irrigated.
- 5:18We had a little bit of alfalfa and we ran a lot of sheep.
- 5:21We had a ton of sheep. So we'd gather cattle, we'd have
- 5:24shearing season. So there'd be a whole week where
- 5:28complete strangers. There's by 12/15/20 of them.
- 5:31I couldn't even tell you how many.
- 5:32And we had over 1000 head. I think we ran on that ranch and
- 5:37they would shear sheep all week. And my job was, I don't know if
- 5:43you've ever done that, but they had these really tall.
- 5:46I'm probably not describing it very well, but I mean, I was
- 5:50sure I was little. So I would say, I'd say, OK, I'm
- 5:54going to say 8 foot, I could be wrong, maybe 10 foot.
- 5:57And they had these wool sacks that you put up at the top, had
- 6:01a ring on it. And when they would shear, these
- 6:03guys would throw all that wool back in that sack.
- 6:07And my job as a little 8 year old would be to jump up there,
- 6:12climb up there, get in and pack all that wool down.
- 6:15Couldn't tell you how many times I got stuck.
- 6:17And so I'd have to sit there and I'd wait at the bottom and I'd
- 6:20just wait and wait. And I thought, OK, well, they're
- 6:22going to throw more wool and I can work my way to the top and
- 6:24then maybe somebody will see me and I get out, you know.
- 6:27But that was my that was my childhood.
- 6:29That was, that's what I did. We lived on a ranch and we
- 6:32played and we, we're country kids, you know, I put a bridle
- 6:39and a piece of string around my horse and rode around like I was
- 6:41an Indian, you know, I mean, I was wild.
- 6:45That was our life. Where were where were you in the
- 6:49pecking order with your sibling? So my sister is older, she's
- 6:53three years older than myself and she she protected me.
- 7:00She told me what to do and I said OK and we fought a little
- 7:05bit. I liked to bite.
- 7:08I bit her a couple times, but we fought a little bit.
- 7:10But she was very protective, super protective over me.
- 7:13She still is. I don't think that that's
- 7:15changed. She's in her 40s and early 40s
- 7:20and she's still very protective and she still tries to tell me
- 7:23what to do. So there is that, but spoiled
- 7:27young baby, that's kind of what it was.
- 7:30There's something interesting about growing up on a farm, you
- 7:33know, having all the acreage, being able to go out and really
- 7:36explore. I, I think a lot of kids, a lot
- 7:39of adults nowadays don't even know what that means to explore
- 7:42land and to kind of live off of land.
- 7:44I'm curious, what is you look back at those times with you and
- 7:48your sister. Do you have like any fond
- 7:51memories of of you guys not maybe getting into trouble, but
- 7:55maybe creating mischief, doing things that maybe most kids
- 8:00probably wouldn't be doing nowadays?
- 8:02So we had a hideout. OK, she'd probably get mad if I
- 8:08said this, but it's terrible. We're 2 little girls, you know?
- 8:12But we had a hideout and we would saddle or not saddle, we'd
- 8:15get on our horses. She would take off and I'd have
- 8:18to follow her and it would be dark, it'd be sun setting, I
- 8:22guess. You know, it's 6:00 or so here
- 8:24right now. And so the sunset and that's
- 8:25kind of in the evening. And it'd be about that.
- 8:27We take off. We'd say see you dad.
- 8:29Bye. We're going to our going to our
- 8:32Fort, you know, and off we would go.
- 8:34And it wasn't that far. We'd hide out there.
- 8:37And she had a she, she took a bucket.
- 8:40We had a bucket, a 5 gallon bucket.
- 8:42We set out there. And then we had these branches
- 8:45that we made into this weird bench that you definitely did
- 8:48not want to sit on. It was Mesquite, but we thought
- 8:50it was cool. That was our couch and
- 8:53imagination just was crazy. And everybody says, well, we
- 8:58take our friends out there and be like, this is our, they're
- 9:00like, well, I have to go to the bathroom.
- 9:01I said, well, there's your toilet, there's your 5 gallon
- 9:03bucket, you know, and they're like, no, there's no way.
- 9:07And we said, well, then you have to walk back up to the house
- 9:10cross. And they said, well, we're not
- 9:12walking back out to the house, We're going to ride back up
- 9:13there. Said, no, we're at our Fort.
- 9:15This is our Hut unit. You have to walk all the way
- 9:17back out to the house. It was quite a waste.
- 9:18And we said, and there's mountain lions.
- 9:20So you've got to watch for the mountain lions.
- 9:22And they're like what we're like, Oh yeah, there's mountain
- 9:25lions. There's, there's could be tigers
- 9:27back over there. You know, and our friends, we
- 9:30our friends didn't do horses. They didn't do stuff like that.
- 9:33And I think we gave our friends more trouble than we gave each
- 9:36other. So that's for sure.
- 9:39Oh man. But you know, my dad, you'd be
- 9:43like, what? We'd get back in, he'd be late.
- 9:46Y'all been out so late? Y'all been out so late?
- 9:48Oh, well, we're, we're Cowboys and Indians, Dad, you know, they
- 9:51stayed out late. And that was just our life.
- 9:54It was pretty neat. Yeah.
- 9:56That was some of the mischief, yeah.
- 9:58It's so funny because you know, as soon as you start having kids
- 10:00and you look back on your own life and how, how you acted and
- 10:04the things that your parents let you do, you know, we were saying
- 10:08this before even started of like, man, how did we even
- 10:10survive? I'm, I'm curious, like what are,
- 10:12what are some of the parallels that you see as like with your
- 10:16daughters right now and kind of who you were growing up of like
- 10:20mischievous or like to explore? I mean, you're, you're raising 2
- 10:25very strong, independent young women.
- 10:28What are some of those parallels that you see of yourself and
- 10:31your daughter from, you know, years ago?
- 10:34My kids, they like to figure things out on their own for
- 10:38sure. They definitely have an
- 10:40imagination. I will say that my oldest, she's
- 10:4510 years old or 11, she's 11. She just turned 11 in January.
- 10:49So we, my father has, my dad has a bunch of bulls.
- 10:55He does younger kids bulls, youth bull ridings and things.
- 10:59And so my oldest decided that she wants to be a stock
- 11:01contractor. That's kind of one of the things
- 11:03that she wants to do. When we said, OK, we'll figure
- 11:06out we're, we're in plans for all of that.
- 11:08We're building to that future for her on the side.
- 11:11And I said, OK, so she says, well, I'm going to flank all
- 11:14these bulls. And I don't know if you know
- 11:16what that is, you know, the flank and it has to be a certain
- 11:19tightness and all that. And one day, Long story short,
- 11:23my husband builds this, this wooden thing.
- 11:26So we have about 9 miniature ponies.
- 11:28And I don't know if you've ever trimmed a miniature pony, but
- 11:31it's absolutely treacherous, All right?
- 11:33They kick, they fight. It's worse than a big horse.
- 11:35It's awful. So my husband's like, I can't do
- 11:37this anymore. So he built this turntable, this
- 11:40wooden turntable, it's amazing. And it's on this pipe and we
- 11:45hinge it over and it like has a little hinge underneath it.
- 11:48And we lay these ponies down and I've had it all, have padding in
- 11:52there, had to put padding in there and all this.
- 11:54And so we're trimming ponies. And so I thought my daughters
- 11:56would be super excited about this.
- 11:59My oldest has a Little Pony trimming kit so she can trim her
- 12:02little pony's feet and thought, oh, this is going to be great
- 12:04for him. So we're inside.
- 12:08The kids were supposed to go feed horses.
- 12:10My husband and I step out into the garage and we look out in
- 12:14the back point of our property and I said, what is going on out
- 12:17there? And so my oldest daughter had
- 12:21decided that she's going to take that pony table, that it stands
- 12:26up straight and you just lead a horse in and you lay it over.
- 12:28But it when it stands up straight, there's a gate and
- 12:31it's almost like a shoot for a bull or a bucking horse.
- 12:35OK, so she has now decided, mind you, this is the parallel, the
- 12:41imagination that we're going to get in trouble here.
- 12:44She's decided that she is going to flank her ponies and we're
- 12:49going to buck her ponies and she's going to start a miniature
- 12:53bucking pony contracting thing that she's got going on.
- 12:58So we look out and I said, Oh my gosh, they're going to get in a
- 13:02wreck. I said, are you going to do
- 13:03something? And he says, no, no, I think
- 13:06we're just going to let him go. And I said, OK, well, let's have
- 13:08a seat. So he sat and watched him buck
- 13:11out ponies. I thought, Oh my gosh.
- 13:15But letting the kids just do, letting them live out here.
- 13:18Letting them, you know, we didn't ever want our kids to go
- 13:21to public school. We wanted them to have an
- 13:25imagination. We didn't want anybody to tell
- 13:28them what they could and couldn't do.
- 13:29Besides, you know, hey, you have to sit here.
- 13:32You have to get in a straight line.
- 13:33You have to this. I just had to add an issue with
- 13:36that. And yes, they're very, they're
- 13:38very disciplined. They listen.
- 13:40We do tell them what to do on certain things, obviously, but
- 13:45for their best interests. And I said I want them to have
- 13:49their own mindset. I want them to not get torn
- 13:51down. I don't want them to feel.
- 13:57I don't want people to belittle them.
- 13:59I want them to be strong, independent human beings.
- 14:02And so I'm going to do everything that I can to pour
- 14:04into them that. And so no matter what happens,
- 14:09they don't get broke down, they don't get tore down, and they're
- 14:11still going to be able to overcome everything.
- 14:15And so anyway, that's just kind of, that's kind of what we
- 14:19decided and this is our life. Well, I love it.
- 14:22It's, it's, it's so great to hear because I think there are a
- 14:25lot of young ladies that are out there that need exactly with
- 14:29what you're talking about. They, they need a safe space to
- 14:33really understand who they are to, to have challenges, but then
- 14:37also to be able to explore and to be able to, you know, have
- 14:42their minds open to opportunities.
- 14:45It was funny because just this last week my daughter was asking
- 14:48me, she said, Dad, how do you make money?
- 14:50And I said, oh, that's I like that.
- 14:52Let's talk about that. I said, you know, when you, if
- 14:54you want to help someone, what you do is you find a need and
- 14:59then you fulfill that need. And I gave her an example.
- 15:02I said, so you see all the rocks out there in our yard.
- 15:04I want, I want all those rocks gone this summer.
- 15:07So you could come up to me and you could say, Dad, would you
- 15:10pay me a dollar to fill up a bucket of rocks?
- 15:14I'll fill up the bucket of rocks.
- 15:15And for every bucket, you know, you pay me a dollar.
- 15:18I said, if you came to me and you solved that problem for me,
- 15:22I would pay you for that. And so I'm already starting to
- 15:25create a kind of this entrepreneur mindset in her to
- 15:30say, you know, what are the needs that I could meet and
- 15:33fulfill? And if I can do it well enough,
- 15:36someone would pay me to do it. Now, I think for a lot of
- 15:39people, we don't really think about training our kids in that
- 15:42way of solving problems. It's usually about, you know,
- 15:45what do you want to be when you grow up?
- 15:47And, and you know what, what great job could we get you to?
- 15:51What kind of education do you need to have versus really
- 15:56taking the spirit that they have and saying, man, what is God
- 15:58placed in you, which I think is really cool what you're doing
- 16:01with your daughters. I'm curious though, when you
- 16:05were, when you were growing up. I, I know I said this, but what
- 16:09did you want to be, Tina? What, what did, what did you,
- 16:11what did you want to because I know you, that you, you know,
- 16:14you used to do barrel racing. I don't know when you started
- 16:16that, but what did what did you want to be when you were growing
- 16:19up on a farm? It was definitely, I would say
- 16:23not a barrel racer. I did not see myself college
- 16:27rodeoing. I did not see myself doing
- 16:30barrels. I never saw myself picking up a
- 16:32rope and, and I rope to the rope now to this day.
- 16:35So I wanted to be a teacher. I remember every year for
- 16:40Christmas, I asked for an easel. I wanted an easel.
- 16:43And you know, those old easels, plastic wool things.
- 16:47And it had the paper and you could flip the paper over and he
- 16:50had all these markers you can do.
- 16:52And that was, I would go into my room and I would take my easel
- 16:57and I would turn. And I looking back now as we're
- 17:01talking about it, that's it's, it's very interesting because I
- 17:05would have an audience in front of me and I would pretend that
- 17:09the entire room with the living room was my audience.
- 17:12They were my kids. They were, I was teaching.
- 17:14And so I went to college to be a teacher and I took a couple of
- 17:19classes. And I think it, the first class,
- 17:23my professor says this, you don't get paid anything.
- 17:27This is absolutely terrible. And you're probably not going to
- 17:30like it. And half of you are going to
- 17:32leave this class and never get your teaching certificate.
- 17:34And I was like, man, this is this is hard truth.
- 17:38This is awesome. This is where I want to be.
- 17:41No. So I said, yeah, yeah, I think
- 17:46that's right. I think I'm that person.
- 17:47I think that's, I think that's me.
- 17:49I think I'm going to leave. And so I did.
- 17:51And then in the position that I play today in my work, I I speak
- 17:57to people out in an audience. And am I fulfilled?
- 18:00Yes. Am IA teacher.
- 18:02I don't know that I would say solely that I'm a teacher, but I
- 18:05do have my little audience in my living room that I'm speaking to
- 18:08and then looking, I think that with that question, I'm like,
- 18:12then maybe that's not where God wanted to be necessarily as a
- 18:14teacher, but maybe maybe just talking to people, you know, So
- 18:20that's kind of enlightening. So that's nice.
- 18:22That was good. I think it's, I think it's
- 18:24amazing because I, I kind of had that similar feeling for myself
- 18:29is, you know, I, I grew up in the martial arts world.
- 18:32I, I was teaching classes when, gosh, I was probably 14 years
- 18:35old, I was in high school and I started teaching kids and, and
- 18:40there was something deep inside of me that I just, I like, I
- 18:42like teaching people. There's, there's a desire and I
- 18:44have a gift of being able to teach things in different ways.
- 18:47So if someone doesn't understand it this way, then we try it
- 18:50another way and then another way until finally we get it.
- 18:53There is something really interesting with that though,
- 18:56because with teaching there comes this speaking thing.
- 19:02And if I, if I've if I've understood this correctly, you
- 19:07weren't necessarily the person that wanted to speak in front of
- 19:09people. Is that correct?
- 19:13No, I did not. I do.
- 19:16I have to tell you this story. I, like I told you, my dad
- 19:21actually built a huge arena about, I don't know, six years
- 19:26ago, maybe my time is probably off on that, but it's been a few
- 19:30years. And he had a huge bull riding.
- 19:34He started getting into the bulls and all the things.
- 19:36And so he had this huge bull riding.
- 19:38It was the first big event. Our sound was good, but then it
- 19:41was packed. The entire arena was packed.
- 19:44We had it fenced off, you know, for a smaller pin for the bulls.
- 19:48And the announcer stand was way up top.
- 19:51And we had an announcer. We found some someone locally
- 19:55and they were announcing. And so I actually managed the
- 20:00entire facility. I ran the bar, the concession
- 20:02stand. All the people made sure
- 20:06everything was good, the security make sure that was
- 20:08good. If anything happened with the
- 20:10sound, I would run across the arena through the bucking shoots
- 20:13around the back, you know, through the back pins and I'd go
- 20:16up to the top because it was at a terrible location in the arena
- 20:18at the time. Since then they've moved it, but
- 20:20that's where it was. And so a lot of times it would
- 20:23the, it would just get too hot, it'd start clipping or get too
- 20:27hot or cut out. So I'd have to go up and I'd fix
- 20:28it and then I'd run back down clear across the other way to
- 20:31the bar and all the things, Long story short, ran out of cash and
- 20:34I had to run 15 minutes and grab some cash and head back.
- 20:39And so I grabbed some cash and I'm like small bills and I was
- 20:42running back. And on the way back, I get a
- 20:44phone call and they say, where are you?
- 20:47We need you. And this, I mean, it was
- 20:49probably, there's probably 4 acres there and just packed full
- 20:52of cars. The roads were packed full of
- 20:54cars. It was huge.
- 20:56And I said, I'm hurrying, I'm hurrying, I'm on my way back.
- 20:58We ran out of this. We ran out of that.
- 20:59I'm on my way back. I said, well, we lost all sound.
- 21:03And I said, oh what? You know what?
- 21:06Well, we lost all sound. I said I'm coming, I'm coming,
- 21:09I'm coming. So I run back over there and I
- 21:11run up to the top and I said, OK, what's happening now?
- 21:14And they said, I said you're good.
- 21:16I flipped the switch. I did what?
- 21:17I did whatever. I said you're good to go.
- 21:19And they said, I said, where's the announcer?
- 21:24They said, we don't know. I said, you don't know where the
- 21:28announcer is. No, he disappeared.
- 21:30And I said, oh, my gosh, are you serious?
- 21:32Yes. I said, OK, it's all right.
- 21:35It's all right. They said, well, you can
- 21:36announce. You can.
- 21:37You can do it. And I said, I'm not getting in
- 21:40front of people like I'm not doing.
- 21:42I'm not getting in front of people.
- 21:43It's not happening. So they said, well, somebody's
- 21:46got to do something. I said we got to keep the show
- 21:48like going. I said, OK, so I crunched down
- 21:51and it was an announcer stand, but underneath you could kind of
- 21:54go underneath the table and nobody would see you or
- 21:56anything. And I said, OK, this is the
- 21:58plan. I said, you're going to hand me
- 22:00that sheet that has the draw on it and who's up?
- 22:04And you're going to hand me that microphone and I'm going to hide
- 22:08right under here and I'll announce the bull riding and you
- 22:11tell me who's in the sheet and I will announce them.
- 22:17And they said you cannot be serious.
- 22:19I said I am dead serious. I will not stand up there and
- 22:24speak in front of anybody. And they said, OK, let's go.
- 22:29I said, OK, let's go. So off we went.
- 22:32I probably announced I'd say 10 bull riders maybe.
- 22:36And it was good. I did a good job.
- 22:38And I'm not saying that shoot my horn, but it went good.
- 22:40It was smooth. I did a good job and I said, OK,
- 22:43my confidence started building. And so they're up there and I
- 22:46said, how's it going? The crowds yelling, things are
- 22:48happening and they look down. They said, hey, you're doing
- 22:51good. Do you want to come up yet?
- 22:52I said no, not yet, give me one more, I'll do it after the next
- 22:55one. And so eventually I got up, I
- 22:59stood up. I ended up giving something
- 23:01away. And I told this guy said, I'll
- 23:03meet you over there in front of that, you know, the entrance
- 23:08door. And at the end of the bull
- 23:11riding, he was like, OK, And you couldn't really see who I was.
- 23:14And I didn't realize this couldn't see me at all.
- 23:16So I probably should have stood up at the first one.
- 23:20Nobody told me that anyway. So I walk around and I said, are
- 23:24you so and so because I'd called him out earlier than I.
- 23:27And he goes, yeah, I said, well, I'm Tina Townsend.
- 23:30And I, I was actually the announcer.
- 23:32And he goes, what? I said, yeah, I know, I I know
- 23:36I'm a girl. And he's like, no, you don't
- 23:38even sound anything like what you were.
- 23:40I said, yeah, confidence goes a long way.
- 23:42It just took me a while to build it up anyway.
- 23:46So I'm definitely afraid of speaking in front of people.
- 23:50Which is really funny because you're actually emceeing events
- 23:55now, right? I am.
- 23:58How did that turn around? So now wow, I am so I got asked
- 24:07to do a Maxwell live to lead back in January of 2025.
- 24:15And Char Stewart, she works here at Alpha Omega leadership and
- 24:20she's one of our team members. And she called me one day and
- 24:23she says, hey, you're you're you announce right.
- 24:26And I said yeah. She says, do you want to maybe
- 24:30come up and just do like a radio ad or something?
- 24:33I said, Oh yeah, that's fine. I'll do radio ad, I'll talk,
- 24:36I'll do whatever. And she says, OK, perfect.
- 24:39And then about two months later, I hadn't heard anything.
- 24:42She calls me. It's like, think Thanksgiving.
- 24:44And she says about that radio ad, we're going to just go ahead
- 24:47and have you MC. And I said, I don't even know
- 24:49what MC is. Sure.
- 24:51And she's like, ah, you'll be fine.
- 24:53Don't worry about it. You announce those rodeos,
- 24:55you'll be fine. You'll be good.
- 24:56And I said, oh, OK, And sure enough, there I was thrown into
- 25:01all that and I thought, Oh my gosh, how did this happen?
- 25:07Definitely can't hide your face when you go on stage for sure.
- 25:11So. No, you really can't.
- 25:13But there is something that is so magical about being an MC,
- 25:18like, I don't know, you know, I used to teach martial arts for a
- 25:22long time and then I've been on a couple of big stages.
- 25:26I've, I've spoken in front of, you know, a couple thousand,
- 25:293000 people. And there's something magical
- 25:32when you get that many people in the room.
- 25:34I don't know if you've noticed this or felt this, but it's like
- 25:36the energy, you just kind of play with it with your hand.
- 25:40Absolutely. It's not you bringing the
- 25:43energy, it's you playing with the energy in the room.
- 25:45And there's something really magical about that.
- 25:48And I think only a few people really know how to do it well.
- 25:52And I feel like you'd be someone that would be really good at
- 25:55doing that. I am curious, so you went to
- 26:00college for for teaching I. Did.
- 26:05So what change what? At what point did you decide
- 26:10that you wanted to go and do something else?
- 26:14Well, I had no idea what I wanted to do at 18 years old.
- 26:18I mean, does any of us? I mean, some people maybe, but I
- 26:20was not one of those people for sure.
- 26:23I started out at Midland College and I did the teaching and I
- 26:27thought, well, it's very cliche, right?
- 26:31We're going to do teaching, we're going to do nursing.
- 26:33We're going to do one of those normal little things.
- 26:35And I decided, man, I'd that didn't work out because I wasn't
- 26:39going to get paid enough. So then in my mind at 18 years
- 26:42old, right? And so then I did the nursing
- 26:46and I said, oh, I'm going to do nursing.
- 26:47That's that's where I'm going to be.
- 26:49And then I, you know, anatomy and feel like physiology's not
- 26:52my strong suit. And so I said, well, that's not
- 26:54going to work. And a friend of mine, my cousin
- 26:59actually, this is the one that got me involved in the chamber.
- 27:02And I said doing her hair one day.
- 27:05And I said, man, I just don't know what I want to do.
- 27:07I don't know where I want to go. I don't know what my future
- 27:11holds. I am kind of at that spot in my
- 27:15life, 1920 years old that I have no idea what direction I want to
- 27:20go. And at the time I, I wasn't
- 27:25super big in my faith. I was raised a Christian, but I
- 27:29didn't sit and pray every moment and pray every morning and have
- 27:33my quiet time and have my prayer time and not like now.
- 27:36And I said, I just don't know what plans.
- 27:39I don't know what I want to do, what I want to do, where I want
- 27:41to be, you know? And that was kind of my mindset
- 27:45back then. And she says, well, I mean,
- 27:47you're sitting here doing my hair.
- 27:49You've always wanted to do people's hair.
- 27:50Why don't you go and go to school for hair?
- 27:53And I said, yeah, I guess I can. That probably wouldn't be too
- 27:56bad. And so sure enough, I ended up
- 28:00trying out for the college rodeo team because I still ran barrels
- 28:04and rodeoed a little bit and I got the scholarship and I went
- 28:08to cosmetology school and graduated with my cosmetology
- 28:11license. made-up a little salon. Did hair.
- 28:14I bet you didn't know that, Nathan I.
- 28:16Actually did I and. You still have.
- 28:19And you still have your license for doing hair?
- 28:21I do and I still do hair. Actually.
- 28:25I have a few clients that I still take on and I've had quite
- 28:28a few this week. I kind of took this couple of
- 28:30months off and this week I had quite a few people and they
- 28:36said, man, we've really missed you.
- 28:38And I said, yeah, I've missed y'all too.
- 28:40And they said one of my friends, she tells me two days ago, she
- 28:43said, you like doing hair, don't you?
- 28:46I said, I do like it. I said, but the most joy that I
- 28:50get out of hair is seeing your face when I'm done.
- 28:54I said seeing seeing you doing something for you, making you
- 29:01feel like you are somebody and you matter because you do.
- 29:07And if I can give that to you or to a the client of mine, to my
- 29:13kids, to a Co worker, to a teamwork team member, that is
- 29:17important to me and the well, how much do I owe you?
- 29:20I said you don't owe me anything.
- 29:22I got everything that I needed. I did something for you.
- 29:25I didn't get a single I didn't get any money at all this week,
- 29:28which I didn't care. That's not why I did it.
- 29:30You know what I mean? That it that's, and I think as I
- 29:33get older, as my mindset changes, as I dive deeper into
- 29:37my faith and working where I work now with Alpha Omega
- 29:42leadership, I see it's about serving others.
- 29:48And it, it means more of what can I give them without having
- 29:51to take. And I think the more that you
- 29:55can share that with other people and the more that people see
- 29:57that, then I think it just makes a bigger impact in other
- 30:00people's lives in it domino effect, you know?
- 30:04Yeah, well, and I love that too. I'm curious, why do you, why do
- 30:08you think it's, I hear this a lot that it's hard for women to
- 30:12really see themselves in the light that other people see
- 30:16them, you know, getting your hair done and seeing the
- 30:20finished product and, and thinking, wow, I can't believe,
- 30:23you know, obviously you have to have a good hair stylist.
- 30:25So, you know, if if you're looking for someone, go find
- 30:27Tina. No, she's like, I don't need
- 30:30anyone else. I'm good, my plate's so full,
- 30:33but. There, there is something really
- 30:35special about finding someone like I think hair is a beautiful
- 30:39example of this because there there are certain hair stylists
- 30:43that when you go and you sit down and you say this is what I
- 30:46want and they say, I know that's what you want.
- 30:49But if we do that, it's going to hide these specific features of
- 30:53your face. It's not going to show the right
- 30:55things that really make you who you are.
- 30:58And so you kind of almost talk them into think, you know, you
- 31:00don't really need the Bob. Don't do the Bob.
- 31:02Don't take off all your hair. And and you speak to them in a
- 31:06way to say this is this is truly a beauty that's been given to
- 31:09you and you kind of get to mold and shape that so that they can
- 31:12see that. I'm curious, how has working
- 31:16with women to empower them? How has that changed you in your
- 31:21life to be able to help women see really who they were created
- 31:24to be? I know.
- 31:26That being able to work with them and being able to see that
- 31:31there's just something about it. You do somebody's hair and they,
- 31:35they just, they just glow. It's like an instant glow.
- 31:38They get their hair done or you fix it or you style it.
- 31:42You might not style it the exact way that they want it, but it
- 31:45just, it brightens them and, and they have this massive glow
- 31:48about them. And I, I want my kids to have
- 31:53that. I want to, I don't know.
- 31:59I just, I want, I want, I want my kids to see that.
- 32:04I want my kids to see those things earlier in life than I
- 32:08did. It took me a while to see that.
- 32:11It took me a while to be that. I mean, at 18 years old, 19
- 32:14years old, 20 years old were. I mean, we don't know what we
- 32:17want to do or I didn't. And you know, you have your
- 32:20college days and you have, well, I'm going to do this and I'm
- 32:23going to do that. And I've got all these big plans
- 32:25and I want my kids to see what I see now at an earlier age so
- 32:30they can have a bigger impact for the future.
- 32:35I want them to go further and be bigger and bolder.
- 32:38And anyway, so yeah, I think that I think that's really
- 32:42important to me. Well, it's powerful.
- 32:45How? How has obedience shaped your
- 32:48confidence? I don't know that I could really
- 32:53answer that. Or maybe, or maybe in terms of,
- 32:58because I think one of the things that's really fascinating
- 33:01about you, you have so many dimensions about who you are
- 33:06from from growing up and, and dealing with sheep to doing hair
- 33:12to going to school to be a teacher, doing drums on the
- 33:16worship team. Like there are so many different
- 33:20aspects to you and I find it really fascinating.
- 33:23But you know, you also have this piece about you where you say,
- 33:27yes, there aren't a lot of yes people out there.
- 33:30There's a lot of no maybe people, but there are a lot of
- 33:34people that say yes. And I'll figure it out along the
- 33:36way. Why is it so important to be
- 33:40obedient to follow through on that?
- 33:42Yes, how is that? How is that created confidence
- 33:45in you even now in a sales position?
- 33:49I I don't, I don't like to disappoint people.
- 33:54I'm kind of a nurturer. I want, I want everybody to be
- 34:01happy. I want to serve them.
- 34:02I want to do everything I can for other people because it
- 34:05brings joy to them and I know that it brings joy to God.
- 34:08So if I can do that then and stay obedient to that, then I
- 34:17know that God is going to provide amazing things for me
- 34:21and open amazing doors for me later on in life.
- 34:25And so if I can just have that mindset of the more I can do for
- 34:28others, the more I can say yes. And, and priorities.
- 34:32I mean, I struggle with that. I think we all struggle with
- 34:34that. It's it's not, yeah, I'm
- 34:36juggling drums and home school and I still do hair and I work
- 34:40part time and I still take my kids to little rodeos and I
- 34:42still rope and I still volunteer for the Martin County Chamber.
- 34:46And I helped start a junior rodeo organization that's now
- 34:50very large. And so there's a lot of things
- 34:53that I've done, but you also have to have priorities with
- 34:56that too. So that's important.
- 34:59My family is my number one priority, my husband, my kids,
- 35:05that's a priority. And sometimes I get thrown off.
- 35:07There's a lot of times that I'm so busy and I'm doing and I'm
- 35:10doing and my husband says, hey, hey, we're here too.
- 35:14You're right, you know, so juggling, that's tough, but
- 35:18staying, staying in line with I'm going to serve and I'm going
- 35:24to help. Continuing to do that even even
- 35:27though times get tough or even though you really don't want to.
- 35:31There's times my mom will call and hey, I need a drummer for
- 35:34Sunday, can you come drum? And I said, mom, I really,
- 35:39really wanted to sleep in. I mean, like, I really wanted to
- 35:42sleep in on Sunday. She says, well, I don't have
- 35:45anybody. OK, I'll be there.
- 35:46What time? Nine.
- 35:47OK, yeah, I'll be there. And so my husband's very
- 35:51supportive. My kids are very supportive.
- 35:53They load up in the car and off we go.
- 35:55But staying obedient. It's tough, but I know that it
- 36:02pays off in the end. And it will.
- 36:04And it does. And it shows my kids something.
- 36:07Yeah. And there's also this piece that
- 36:09kind of surrounds you of community.
- 36:11How important has community been?
- 36:14Because I think you've you've been very intentional about
- 36:16building community around you. What?
- 36:19What is the importance of having community in someone's life?
- 36:25You need that. Everybody needs that, especially
- 36:27women, absolutely. They need people in their
- 36:31corner. They need people rooting for
- 36:33them. And you, you need to be and
- 36:37surround yourself with people that are for you and not against
- 36:40you. That is super important.
- 36:42And there's so many people in this world and so many women,
- 36:46women that I know, women that I don't know that if they just had
- 36:51that one person that just went up to and said, man, I'm proud
- 36:55of you. I am.
- 36:56You were doing an amazing job. You know, let's surround,
- 37:00surround people with good positive encouragement and
- 37:05positive enforcement. And especially women, you don't
- 37:08know what a woman's going through.
- 37:09You don't know what they're doing at home.
- 37:11You don't know what their home life is, what their work life
- 37:13is. You know, encourage, you know,
- 37:16stay positive with them. And surrounding yourself with
- 37:19people like that helps you thrive and it helps you to grow.
- 37:23And I think that's very imperative and very important.
- 37:26Yeah, I think, I think it's huge.
- 37:27And I, and I think that I, I don't know, maybe maybe I'm
- 37:31wrong about this, but I feel like a lot of women have a hard
- 37:34time opening up with other women.
- 37:36There's a, there's a judgement piece that we kind of feel like,
- 37:40and I say we like, I'm a woman. Like we.
- 37:44Yeah, but why? Guys, it's OK, You've been
- 37:45around them any. But there's a judgement piece
- 37:47that I sense that a lot of women have a hard time sharing what
- 37:51they're actually feeling, what they're actually experienced.
- 37:53You know, we were talking about this earlier before we even
- 37:56started doing this interview, was that I know that there are
- 38:00women who work all the time and they feel like they're judged by
- 38:03people who are full time moms. I know that there are full time
- 38:06moms that feel judged by people who work that are, that are
- 38:09moms. Like there's, there's this
- 38:11constant feeling of judgement. And so I'm curious, how do you
- 38:16how do you get over that so that you can start to build a strong
- 38:21community, especially, you know, if you're for the woman that's
- 38:24listening right now, how do you encourage them to create that
- 38:28strong community when maybe there's a feeling like what,
- 38:31what if I open up and now all of a sudden I'm going to be
- 38:34attacked because I'm sharing all these things, insecurities about
- 38:37where I feel like I am right now.
- 38:39So I'll give you an example. I I just went through something
- 38:44kind of similar, I guess in a, in a sense, my daughter got
- 38:48accepted. She was on a wait list.
- 38:50She's 8. She loves gymnastics, loves
- 38:52gymnastics. And so she got accepted into
- 38:56this little gym and I thought, OK, we're going to group
- 39:01gymnastics. She's done private gymnastics
- 39:02for about two years, but I never did the group gymnastics where
- 39:07she goes to the gym and does all that.
- 39:09And so they said, OK, we're going to start this, you know,
- 39:11such and such night. OK, here we go.
- 39:13She's pumped, she's excited, she's ready to go.
- 39:17And I thought, OK, I can do this.
- 39:21And I pull into the parking lot and it's packed.
- 39:24And I said, man, I know I'm going to walk in there.
- 39:27And there is going to be this woman wearing Prada and this
- 39:31woman wearing a coach bag or coach shoes.
- 39:34And then this woman's hair and lips are going to be done and
- 39:37she's just going to be all dolled out.
- 39:38And then they're doing gymnastics and there's Cadillacs
- 39:41and Escalades. And I'm just so insecure going,
- 39:44what am I about to walk into? I didn't want to be here.
- 39:48I didn't want to talk to people. I just want to curl up.
- 39:50And I want to, like, go into my shell and go, ha, you know, that
- 39:55kind of thing. And I'm just, like, sweating.
- 39:57My palms are sweaty. And my daughter is so excited.
- 40:04And I were walking to this gym and we're walking on the
- 40:07sidewalk, and I said, Are you ready?
- 40:12She said Mom, Yeah, let's go. And I thought to myself, if she
- 40:18can have that kind of confidence at 8 years old, walking into a
- 40:22place that she has never been in, in front of kids that she's
- 40:26never been around, that are probably 10 times more advanced
- 40:29than her, and she does not care. And walk through a group of
- 40:33women and moms and crowd and kids running this way and that
- 40:36way. And she is walking in and she
- 40:38says I'm Dixon to do what I want to do.
- 40:43And if she can have that kind of confidence, why am I getting
- 40:46clammy? I need to be confident for her.
- 40:51So I need to be right in the middle of that and show her
- 40:57exactly how to handle this. And I said, don't be nervous
- 41:03even though I'm sweating. I said, you know what, shake it
- 41:05off. I got this, you know, and it's
- 41:09the same. I do the same thing on stage.
- 41:11Why am I nervous? My kid would come up here and
- 41:14talk all day long. Have that confidence, you know,
- 41:17And it's hard. It's hard for women.
- 41:21Women judge other women, women, women.
- 41:25It's harder. It's hard being a woman in a
- 41:27sense of that, that way. But you know, have confidence in
- 41:32yourself and who you are and what you believe you are, that
- 41:34you are worthy and you are somebody because you are.
- 41:38God created you just like our masterpiece coming up.
- 41:42God created you in His image and each one of us is unique and
- 41:48perfect in that way. You are your own person.
- 41:53Be confident in your skin, be confident in what you wear, and
- 41:56don't wear anybody else's problems yours, you know, And so
- 42:02I think that that is extremely important.
- 42:05And who were you doing this for? Who did I walk in there for?
- 42:08Yeah, I walked in there for myself because, you know, I
- 42:11needed to. Obviously God was like, hey, get
- 42:12yourself in check. But I, I want to show up for my
- 42:17kid. My kids are very important to
- 42:18me. And I want my kids, I homeschool
- 42:21them, for them to see me in that light so that they can see that
- 42:28they can do it too. I've got two young girls and
- 42:31they need to see that too. So anyway.
- 42:35It's so good. There's I love that you brought
- 42:39this up earlier that you know, you, you grew up Christian but
- 42:42didn't necessarily maybe own faith, right.
- 42:45You know, I wasn't praying it all the time or even every day
- 42:48or maybe maybe not even every week.
- 42:51But there there is a moment for people when they actually do
- 42:57come to have a relationship with Jesus.
- 42:59And I'm curious for you, when did things shift for you when
- 43:03you really started to own your faith?
- 43:06And how are you, how are you cultivating that with your girls
- 43:10right now so that they can experience something similar?
- 43:14Maybe, maybe not now, maybe it's down the road, but what are you
- 43:17doing to cultivate that? So when did you feel that shift
- 43:20and how are you cultivating that with your girls today?
- 43:25I would say that, I mean, I was back and forth when I was
- 43:30younger. I knew God.
- 43:31I was saved at a young age. You know, I just got into my
- 43:34heart at a young age. I was probably 6th grade is when
- 43:39I did that and it was a little event here in Greenwood and I
- 43:43was so excited. I did Bible drill class.
- 43:48You know, it's like a little competition thing.
- 43:50I did Bible drill, did all the things that was so great.
- 43:52And then of course you get older and you do things and then you
- 43:55kind of straight away and then you come back and then you
- 43:57straight away and you come back. And I did all of that.
- 44:00And I, my husband and I were engaged when I was in my early
- 44:0620s and it didn't work out. And I said, man, this isn't
- 44:09going to work out. And so we kind of went our
- 44:11separate race and then we got to back together in our late 20s
- 44:15and I had grown a little bit, I had gotten a little more mature,
- 44:19right? I said, OK, I have a real job
- 44:21now and I have real bills and I needed to grow up some.
- 44:25And, and so then we, we ended up getting married then.
- 44:30And so I, we had kids and I thought, man, what a, what a
- 44:36crazy thing this is. And he's a deep thinker and he's
- 44:41a forward thinker. And we both try to be very
- 44:43proactive rather than reactive and things that we do and
- 44:46decisions that we make. And so I said, how are we going
- 44:53to raise our children? And he was not raised.
- 44:57He was raised kind of around the Mormon church a little bit.
- 45:01And so he was not raised in the Christian Church.
- 45:03His grandmother was Methodist. Occasionally he went and did
- 45:06that. And so he wasn't super familiar
- 45:08with, I don't think he has much background in the Bible as I
- 45:11did. And so I said, OK, I'm going to
- 45:15be an example for you and for the kids.
- 45:17And we're going to just we're going to fight through this
- 45:19together. We're going to read, we're going
- 45:21to study, we're going to. But it all, it all came down to
- 45:24the kids. How were we going to raise our
- 45:26kids? And like you said earlier, when
- 45:29you were like, you know, a stay at home mom or a working mom and
- 45:32you know the difference and oh, it's better to be a staying
- 45:34home. It's better to be a working it
- 45:37is you think the same. You know, I work all day 40
- 45:42hours a week, but how am I raising my kids or I stay at
- 45:46home and I'm a stay at home mom. How to raise my kids.
- 45:48Your thinking is the same. You still think what is best for
- 45:52my child? How do I want to raise my child?
- 45:54What faith is my going to child going to know growing up and my
- 45:59husband and I had that had that talk about that and I said, OK,
- 46:03we are going to teach our children and we are going to be
- 46:07examples for our children. And so I would say that that's
- 46:12when we really both of us dove into the word a lot more and
- 46:18decided that we can't just sit here and talk it.
- 46:21We have to do it too, right. And and God transforms us.
- 46:27The more you read, the more you study, the more he transforms
- 46:30your heart and and that's just kind of what he's doing.
- 46:33And that was the decision that we sat down.
- 46:35It was for our kids. I love, I love that you bring up
- 46:39your husband too, because you guys have been married for a
- 46:42number of years. But then on top of that, you've
- 46:45your parents 47 years of being married.
- 46:48You know, there's, I bring this up often on the podcast.
- 46:51I happen to find all these people that have been married
- 46:53for a long time. And I, I don't think it's
- 46:55coincidence, but it is really quite unfathomable nowadays that
- 47:00people stay married for 10 years, 152030.
- 47:05And then when you get into the like the 40s and the 50 years,
- 47:08you're like, how in the world did you even get that far?
- 47:10Because most people can't even make it five years in marriage.
- 47:14I'm curious, what are, what are some of those things as you
- 47:17reflect back and seeing your parents through their marriage,
- 47:21what, what did you learn from them that really helped you
- 47:24strengthen your marriage to be where it is today?
- 47:28My parents talked a lot. My parents, they communicated
- 47:35very well with each other. If I would go, I remember as a
- 47:39kid, I'd go to my mom and well, dad said I could do this and
- 47:44this and this. And she'd say, oh really?
- 47:46Yeah, Yeah, he did. Yeah.
- 47:47He said it was fine, it was no big deal.
- 47:50And. And she said no, he did not.
- 47:53Well, how do you know you've been in the living room and
- 47:55doing the dishes and cooking dinner all night?
- 47:57How do you know my mom was a stay at home mom?
- 48:00And I said, how do you even know?
- 48:02And she says, I just know. And I said, well, well, that's
- 48:06not that. You can't.
- 48:07There's no way. There's no way.
- 48:08And sure enough, wow, some form fashion way, by some miracle,
- 48:14they just so happened to had spoke and I missed it, You know,
- 48:20like how did I miss them going back to talk to each other?
- 48:23They don't talk to each other. Parents don't talk to each other
- 48:27ever. You know, I think my kids still
- 48:29think that my husband and I don't speak to each other
- 48:31because, well, dad said I could. No, he did not.
- 48:35Communication. Communication was huge for my
- 48:39parents. They, my mom had her hobbies.
- 48:43She plays piano and she taught piano for numerous years, still
- 48:49teaches piano to this day, my kids included.
- 48:52And my dad, he did horses and he did the barn and, and he did the
- 48:58ranch and he was outdoorsy. And my mom, she took her, she
- 49:02took care of the home. But they talked, they had their
- 49:05moments. They would always have that
- 49:07quiet time and they'd always discuss on what was on their
- 49:11heart or their mind or, you know, and, and share that
- 49:15because I mean, you have to do that.
- 49:16There's a point where you strangle somebody, but talk
- 49:20about it, maybe work it out. You know, they obviously did.
- 49:22It's been 47 years. So they did a good job.
- 49:27But yeah, I would say that I said that that was probably
- 49:30their biggest thing and they supported us.
- 49:32They supported my sister and I. They were there for everything
- 49:35100% in if we wanted to, if we wanted to do basketball or we
- 49:41wanted to cheerleading. So you wanted to cheer?
- 49:43OK, cool. Well, you know, a month in, I
- 49:46was like, this is awful. I don't want to cheer anymore.
- 49:48And too bad. You're in it for a year.
- 49:52You're going to finish it, you're not going to quit.
- 49:54They both equally gave. They agreed on their discipline.
- 49:59One didn't discipline more than the other.
- 50:02They had a vision for us. They wanted us to be successful.
- 50:05They wanted us to be independent.
- 50:07And they had goals and plans and visions and, but they were on
- 50:12the same page and they did it together.
- 50:14And so I think that's very important.
- 50:18I feel like that that's what my husband and I try to do so.
- 50:23You know, it's, it's, it's so wonderful to hear that you and
- 50:26your husband, you know, you guys operate together so well, you
- 50:30know, not just on your own, you know, but also together.
- 50:34Like, like you were saying, you have an organization, 2 regions
- 50:38that you guys run together for rodeo.
- 50:41And we do, you know, there, there is a lot of communication
- 50:45that takes place in any relationship, but a marriage, it
- 50:49really is important for two people to come together and to
- 50:52speak so that you can define reality.
- 50:55And I love, I love kind of of your entire life, no matter
- 51:00where you've been planted, you plant in that area and it seems
- 51:04like you just blossom, you grow, you take those moments of
- 51:08opportunity and you really try to make them the best that you
- 51:11can. You know, for all of you guys
- 51:13listening, I I have, I have one more question before we wrap up,
- 51:16Tina. But for everyone listening right
- 51:18now, I want to encourage you that there is a really great
- 51:22opportunity that is coming up. You know, in this conversation,
- 51:26we've talked about identity, we've talked about faith, we've
- 51:28talked about courage, we've talked about hiding and
- 51:32announcing from from the highest of heights.
- 51:36There's so many different things that we've talked about and
- 51:39we've talked about your growth, Tina, and if if you resonate
- 51:43with a lot of the conversation that we're talking about, you
- 51:47have to know about this opportunity that's coming up and
- 51:49you have to know about it. Alpha Omega Leadership is
- 51:52hosting the Masterpiece Women event.
- 51:54It's coming up very soon. This isn't just another
- 51:58conference. It's a faith centered leadership
- 52:01experience designed to remind women who they are, strengthen
- 52:05their confidence deep in their faith, and surround themselves
- 52:08with an intentional community, which is what we were talking
- 52:10about earlier about finding a community of women around you.
- 52:14And this could be your opportunity.
- 52:16If you're in Texas, you can travel there pretty easily.
- 52:19If you're not in Texas, you should, you should go get a
- 52:22plane ticket. It's not that hard.
- 52:25Or if you know someone that is in Texas that needs to be
- 52:28connected with a group of people that are intentional with like
- 52:31mindedness, this is a great event to to check out.
- 52:35Tickets are are intentionally priced to keep access
- 52:39reasonable. So you can, you can go, you can
- 52:41attend, but seating is limited. So I want to make sure that you
- 52:46go check it out as soon as you can.
- 52:48I'm going to have the link for the event in the show notes.
- 52:53So make sure you go check those out.
- 52:55But this has been such an amazing talk.
- 52:58Tina, you, you are such a wealth of knowledge on so many
- 53:01different subjects. One of the things I kind of want
- 53:05to wrap up here with is I've been asking a lot of people
- 53:08who've been coming on the show recently of what does it mean to
- 53:10be more than before? I'm curious for you, as we've
- 53:14been talking about all these different things, I'm curious,
- 53:17what does it mean for you to be more than before?
- 53:19But also what will women attending this event?
- 53:23How will they be more than before after they get through
- 53:27it? What, what is going to be
- 53:28different for the women that attend the event?
- 53:30What's going to shift and change for them?
- 53:33I think that a lot of women get lost in their day-to-day and
- 53:37their work and their, the drama that whatever's going on with
- 53:42their lives, the cooking, the cleaning, the busyness, and
- 53:46instead of being told, hey, you need to work harder and and this
- 53:49needs to happen and that needs to happen.
- 53:51I think that women just really need a space that that they can
- 53:58come to and say, this is who I already am.
- 54:03I'm already this person. You don't have to tell me to
- 54:06hustle harder or hustle more, but finding out and digging
- 54:11deeper of who you already are. You are somebody you are worthy.
- 54:16And sometimes we lose that. We lose that with the kids with
- 54:20the busy schedules and things like that.
- 54:22And so I think that this space and this event is going to show
- 54:28them more of who they truly are. And a lot of people need that.
- 54:33A lot of women need that. They need to be reminded of
- 54:35that, you know, you are somebody, you are worthy.
- 54:38And this, this event will definitely do that.
- 54:41So good. So Tina, what does it mean for
- 54:44you to be more than before? I'm somebody way different than
- 54:47I was before. I'm somebody different than I
- 54:49was at 18, at 19, at 20. And being able to be more than
- 54:55that is just going to set up my kids.
- 54:59It's going to set up the people that I'm around, it's going to
- 55:01set up the people that I encounter.
- 55:03And it's going to push them to want to be more to.
- 55:07I haven't had a terrible past. I've had a wonderful past.
- 55:11But I also needed to grow a little bit.
- 55:13Never now. Then we all need to find our
- 55:15worth, need to dig deep and say we are worthy and we are
- 55:18somebody. And being able to do that now is
- 55:23a lot more than what I could do before.
- 55:26It was so good and it's it's so beautiful because what you just
- 55:30said is exactly why we do the podcast here is because people
- 55:36are living their lives with a bunch of dust on them, with dirt
- 55:39on them. They're they're like these,
- 55:41these little bones that we dig up in the ground and they just
- 55:45need to brush off the dirt to reveal what is underneath such a
- 55:49beautiful creation that God has created.
- 55:52And so for all of you guys listening, make sure you go
- 55:55check out this amazing event, the Masterpiece women's event.
- 55:58It's coming up right around the corner.
- 56:00It's going to be phenomenal. I can't go because, well, you
- 56:03know, I can't go. But there is a men's event
- 56:07that's going to be coming around the corner too in August.
- 56:09So we're going to talk about that hopefully in the future
- 56:12here in the podcast. But for all of you guys
- 56:14listening, make sure you like subscribe.
- 56:15Share this with a gal that you know in your life.
- 56:18It needs a little bit of encouragement today.
- 56:20Maybe. Maybe she needs a little bit of
- 56:21dust brushed off of her. Until next time, be more, see
- 56:25more, and experience more than before.
