- 0:27the world a better place. Find it in your favorite podcast
- 0:32app. But just to make it easy for
- 0:34you, I've left a link in the show notes.
- 0:37Now let's dive into today's quote from Robin Crowe,
- 0:42musician, entrepreneur, and author who once said jump and
- 0:48the net will appear. This quote has only 6 words, but
- 0:54they contain a complete philosophy about how courage
- 0:57actually works. Here's what some people get
- 1:01backwards. They want the net to appear
- 1:04first. The guarantee, the safety plan,
- 1:09the proof it's going to work out, and then they'll jump.
- 1:13But Robin Crow spent 20 years as a struggling musician before he
- 1:16figured out the truth. The net doesn't show up until
- 1:21after you jump. Crow dropped out of high school.
- 1:24The tour performed at over 600 schools across the country,
- 1:29spent years chasing a recording career in Hollywood, and had
- 1:33very little to show for it. Then, instead of retreating to
- 1:37safety, he made another leap. He built his own recording
- 1:42studio from scratch in Franklin, TN.
- 1:46That studio, Dark Horse Recording, eventually hosted
- 1:50artists like Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, and Neil Diamond.
- 1:55The net appeared, but only after he jumped.
- 2:00The reason some people never get what they want isn't lack of
- 2:04talent OR bad timing. It's that they're standing at
- 2:08the edge, waiting for certainty that will never come.
- 2:13Fear doesn't go away when you have more information.
- 2:17It goes away when you move. I remember standing at the edge
- 2:22of starting this podcast. I had lots of reasons to wait.
- 2:26I mean, I didn't have to write equipment, even though I did.
- 2:30I didn't know what I was doing, which wasn't true either.
- 2:35I kept telling myself I'd launch when things were more ready, and
- 2:41at some point I just jumped. I made a decision, a commitment.
- 2:47The equipment was imperfect only in my mind.
- 2:51The early episodes were not perfect either, and neither is
- 2:54this one. But the net appeared, and here
- 2:58we are, almost 800 episodes later.
- 3:02The net was always there, I just couldn't see it from the edge.
- 3:07So here's the question. What are you standing at the
- 3:10edge of right now? What's the leap?
- 3:13You keep postponing, waiting for guarantees that aren't coming.
- 3:18You already know what it is. Just jump and the net will
- 3:23appear. That's it for today.
- 3:25I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 3:30tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 3:36with another daily quote.
