- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome back to the Elon Musk Podcast.
- 0:05This is a show where we discuss the critical crossroads that
- 0:08shape SpaceX, Tesla X, The Boring Company, and Neuralink,
- 0:13and I'm your host, Will Walden. One of the most important
- 0:18questions about SpaceX is will it ever go public?
- 0:22Will there be an IPO for the company?
- 0:25Can you buy shares for the company?
- 0:27Can you buy stock in the company?
- 0:29While late last year, SpaceX was reportedly in discussions to
- 0:33sell 500 million to 750 million shares of its stocks,
- 0:37potentially valuing the company at over $175 billion.
- 0:42And this evaluation exceeds the record set by Alibaba's IPO in
- 0:472014. And it's a rise from Spacex's
- 0:51$150 billion valuation in July of 2023.
- 0:56Now, Spacex's new valuation would position it above major
- 0:59companies like Disney and Comcast in terms of market cap.
- 1:03However, the details of Spacex's tender offer could still change
- 1:08at any time in the company is projected to generate $9 billion
- 1:12in revenue over the whole year of 2023 and is aiming for
- 1:15approximately 15 billion in 2024.
- 1:19SpaceX has achieved a very dominant role in the space
- 1:22transportation market, accounting for over 64% of
- 1:26commercial rocket launches in the first half of this year.
- 1:29Elon Musk has attracted top talent to SpaceX, including
- 1:33former NASA engineers and Apple product designers.
- 1:36And the company satellite business, Starlink, which aims
- 1:40to provide Internet access to remote areas, is seen as revenue
- 1:44increase from $222 million in 2021 to almost $2 billion in
- 1:512022 and 2023. Now, despite speculation about a
- 1:55potential Starlink IPO as early as 2024, late 2024, both Elon
- 2:01Musk and investor Ron Barron have dismissed these rumors.
- 2:05Barron, who is a significant investor in SpaceX, anticipates
- 2:09A Starlink IPO around 2027, with Spacex's valuation potentially
- 2:15reaching 250 to $300 billion at that point.
- 2:21The Musk has previously indicated that he doesn't
- 2:23foresee Starlink going public until at least 2025, and the
- 2:27company is currently focusing on its goal of launching this mega
- 2:31constellation of 42,000 satellites by next year using
- 2:36the Starship rocket. Now Musk has mentioned on X,
- 2:40formerly Twitter, that Starlink's IPO would depend on
- 2:43the company becoming financially viable and being able to predict
- 2:47cash flow effectively. Now.
- 2:49Currently Starlink has achieved break even cash flow as per
- 2:52Musk's recent posts, but SpaceX reported a profit of 55,000,000
- 2:57odd $1.5 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2023 and
- 3:02then more throughout the year. The company has also raised
- 3:05significant capital through stock issuance, maintaining a
- 3:08strong cash position. However, it has yet to reach its
- 3:12projected target of 20 million subscribers, currently having
- 3:15between two and three million subscribers.
- 3:18SpaceX continues to attract an investment and interest despite
- 3:22the uncertainty around its cash flow predictions.
- 3:25It has recently secured a contract with the US Space Force
- 3:27and investments from entities like Entessa San Paulo.
- 3:32Ron Baron, who is a billionaire investor himself, says potential
- 3:35in SpaceX is Starlink above all else, expecting it to go public
- 3:39around 2027 with a valuation between 250 and $300 billion.
- 3:44Have you SpaceX and Tesla as key investments in his portfolio?
- 3:48Listen to Ron Baron about this. He knows what he's talking
- 3:51about, and Musk and Spacex's leadership have contemplated A
- 3:54Starlink IPO once the business stabilizes.
- 3:57Elon Musk has confirmed that Starlink has achieved break even
- 4:00cash flow, though details remain unspecified.
- 4:03And the company has launched over 5000 satellites and boasts
- 4:06more than two million subscribers.
- 4:08Now SpaceX is surging. Valuation, now around $150
- 4:11billion, is significantly driven by Starlink.
- 4:14Musk's decision to possibly take the company public reflects the
- 4:17desire of long term investors to realize their investments out.
- 4:22Spacex's stock sales are always notable events in the financial
- 4:26markets, offering a rare opportunity for investors to buy
- 4:29into one of Musk's most successful enterprises.
- 4:32At the potential SpaceX stock sale shows that the company's
- 4:35growth in Musk's ability to attract investment and drive
- 4:38innovation is paramount to the success of Starlink and also
- 4:43SpaceX. Now, the decision to go public
- 4:45with Starlink alone, or any part of SpaceX, will be closely
- 4:49watched because Elon Musk doesn't want to give up control
- 4:52of the rocket company that will be bringing people to the
- 4:56surface of Mars. And as SpaceX continues to lead
- 4:59the space transportation and satellite markets, the company's
- 5:02financials and strategic moves will remain a topic of interest
- 5:06among investors and industry watchers.
- 5:08As of right now, the public can't invest in an IPO of SpaceX
- 5:13or Starlink. So we're going to have to wait a
- 5:16few years until Elon Musk makes up the company's mind so we can
- 5:20all invest. I'll be an investor right up
- 5:22there right in the beginning. Hey, thank you so much for
