- 0:34Speaker 2: a new nickname, JD. Good to be with you.
- 0:36Speaker 1: As always, travel nightmares for most people coming back anywhere
- 0:40Speaker 1: that were traveling this weekend. Snowmagedin, afflicting all of us
- 0:43Speaker 1: here in New Jersey. Tal somehow spared in southern California
- 0:46Speaker 1: had to get to Deadmonton. So it was just we're
- 0:49Speaker 1: able you all to get up Sunday. So first flight Sunday,
- 0:52Speaker 1: United cancels it Saturday nights. At least I know it's canceled, Okay,
- 0:55Speaker 1: supposed to go to supposed to go to Toronto, then Edmonton,
- 0:58Speaker 1: but I knew what was going to happen, so alertly
- 1:00Speaker 1: we tried to pivot to Denver, but United canceled that
- 1:03Speaker 1: flight Saturday night. Dead I'm sending job by the Amazon
- 1:06Speaker 1: travel folks there. Let's go to Denver because Denverson expecting snow.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Denver, Edmonton.
- 1:10Speaker 1: All right, get to LaGuardia Sunday morning dead, No one's
- 1:13Speaker 1: on the road.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Great.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Couldn't have been a smoother ride at Denver, which notoriously
- 1:17Speaker 1: has bad turbulence because that airport. We're rock abount in
- 1:19Speaker 1: near we can all speak to this. But shockingly, no turbulence.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I land within fifteen minutes, made by connection to me
- 1:25Speaker 1: and Thomas Iicki Blake Boldon living the good life.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Great.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Unfortunately, on the way back, not nearly as desirable. Red
- 1:30Speaker 1: eye out of Edmonton to Toronto in danger of that
- 1:34Speaker 1: not happening because the second leg of my flight, which
- 1:37Speaker 1: was Toronto to Newark, was canceled. So as I've checked in,
- 1:41Speaker 1: we've gone to security about to line up. Guys, you
- 1:43Speaker 1: don't have a ticket, That's what I mean. He goes,
- 1:45Speaker 1: they canceled the second leg of your flight. Like, yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 1: the Toronto to Newark. But I'll rebook that when I
- 1:50Speaker 1: get to Toronto. He's like, nope, the whole thing's canceled.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Like, no, I need to get on.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I can't be a vagabond sleeping the Edmonton airport. I
- 1:57Speaker 1: need to get on this flight. Then get to trial
- 1:59Speaker 1: rey book. He's like airport too, he said, well exactly,
- 2:02Speaker 1: not great, because I'll see what I can do.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Anything gets me in the flight, no problem.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I get to Air Canada. Go there, Hey, seven thirty
- 2:08Speaker 1: was canceled. I know I need to rebook. We can
- 2:10Speaker 1: get you in the four thirty. I gotta be at
- 2:11Speaker 1: work at two MLB tonight. I'm on the air from
- 2:13Speaker 1: five till six. There's a noon flight, there's a two
- 2:15Speaker 1: o'clock flight.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Both those are booked. Okay, call him is on travel.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Let's just cancel the flight.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeap United nine to thirty, No problem, get to United
- 2:23Speaker 1: nine o'clock flight canceled? Oh for two because there's a
- 2:27Speaker 1: ten to fifteen delta. Like all right, he goes, But
- 2:29Speaker 1: you're in America right now, like what you've gone through customs.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You have to get out of customs now, then go
- 2:34Speaker 1: to a different terminal, a piercing get to delta. Of course,
- 2:36Speaker 1: by the time I got through customs, by the time
- 2:38Speaker 1: I got to the terminal, forty five minutes check in.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm forty check in. We're now zero for three. I
- 2:43Speaker 1: call on man, oh and I go, this is our
- 2:44Speaker 1: last shot. I gotta get to work at two. How
- 2:46Speaker 1: do you feel about Porter? He's like, all right, Oh,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'll hop in an uber forty five minutes drive downtown Toronto.
- 2:52Speaker 1: There's a twelve thirty Porter. No security, very few planes.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Orter, just let you walk on.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I don't think I'm sort of I don't thin I'm
- 2:59Speaker 1: gonnacheck my passport. I think I just walked in the guy.
- 3:01Speaker 1: We trust you, we believe you. Go ahead, and you
- 3:03Speaker 1: go on one of those planes. And I felt like
- 3:05Speaker 1: Richie Allen's and LaBamba, like you're taking your life in
- 3:08Speaker 1: your hands. I mean, this is one of those it's
- 3:09Speaker 1: always a concern the plane where they say tell us
- 3:12Speaker 1: your weight and don't lie, because they're worried about weight
- 3:14Speaker 1: distribution in case there's too much weight in one part
- 3:17Speaker 1: of the plane. Good news as I got there forty
- 3:19Speaker 1: minutes late. Missed the meeting, but a hell of a
- 3:20Speaker 1: show and will be tonight. Me and Michael will killed it.
- 3:22Speaker 1: This is air travel in today's day and age my flower'
- 3:25Speaker 1: gonna give flowers later. I'm giving flowers to Owen.
- 3:27Speaker 2: That's my guy.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Did a phenomenal job at Amazon Travel, despite two cancelations
- 3:31Speaker 1: in a misflight still got to work on time.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Well, it's good too, and you missed the meeting, which is,
- 3:36Speaker 4: as we know, the pre production meetings sometimes, especially for
- 3:40Speaker 4: like MLB Tonight and Chill Tonight, it's like, hey, guys,
- 3:42Speaker 4: what's up. All right, we're gonna talk about some games.
- 3:45Speaker 4: You guys obviously on a base that you've other stuff
- 3:47Speaker 4: to cheap to worry about. But right, yeah, it's good.
- 3:50Speaker 4: They got you running around the country like good news is.
- 3:54Speaker 2: As you know, that's a hell of an arena.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I mean, once you get to Deadminton, it's a trek
- 3:58Speaker 1: to get their northern number. Once you're there, though, hell
- 4:00Speaker 1: of an arena. Great game, I mean, oilers running wild
- 4:04Speaker 1: on the the Anheim Ducks.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It was a good game, at least to me. I
- 4:06Speaker 2: got it.
- 4:06Speaker 4: It's like you're in witness protection and you're getting chased
- 4:09Speaker 4: around the country and they just keep shuffling from place
- 4:11Speaker 4: to place.
- 4:12Speaker 2: It does feel that way.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Artists, working man and sports I.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Want to go that far. You had a stretch. It
- 4:16Speaker 2: was tougher than me.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You had a two week stretch from about December around
- 4:19Speaker 1: Christmas time at January when you were carrying the company
- 4:22Speaker 1: and the podcast for the Winter Classic.
- 4:24Speaker 4: But yeah, we try, still trying to battle to get
- 4:28Speaker 4: that extra day's pay, but we'll figure it out.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, good look in the double invoicing.
- 4:32Speaker 1: In the meantime, let's talk about the sky is falling
- 4:34Speaker 1: right now for the taummea beliefs.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Up in the sky, it's a bird.
- 4:38Speaker 1: William Neelander found a way to make the least for
- 4:39Speaker 1: one lost Sunday night to Colorado just a.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Little more interesting.
- 4:42Speaker 1: During a break in action with the Avalanche leading Toronto
- 4:45Speaker 1: three to nothink Camerascott Nielander some of his injured teammates
- 4:48Speaker 1: in the skybox taking in the game. That's when Slick
- 4:50Speaker 1: Willie gave the old one finger salute to the camera.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You apologize for it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Monday morning, NHL find him five thousand dollars. I think
- 4:57Speaker 1: a greaters is the fact that team stinks. They followed
- 4:59Speaker 1: up by falling seven to four to Buffalo on Tuesday.
- 5:02Speaker 1: They've lost seven of eight. Craig Bruby he got fifty
- 5:05Speaker 1: stitches for a gash in his head courtesy of a
- 5:08Speaker 1: workout mishap. They also got pumped six y three by
- 5:11Speaker 1: Vegas and Mitch Moore's much anticipate return of Toronto and
- 5:14Speaker 1: Austin Matthews isn't talking to the media.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Are the Leafs done well?
- 5:19Speaker 3: I did?
- 5:19Speaker 4: I tweeted out, have been active on Twitter recently They've
- 5:23Speaker 4: been getting some traction.
- 5:24Speaker 3: So it's like, oh, nice, this is fun.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Kick's mentioned that to me, if you want to go
- 5:27Speaker 1: down that road. You said, David Pasternak has always been underrated,
- 5:30Speaker 1: much like Adrian Kempy.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And then people start firing back at you, and then
- 5:34Speaker 2: you got into a little bit of war words with
- 5:35Speaker 2: some people there.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Well, no, that's the first one the way that And
- 5:39Speaker 4: again I have to take some fault on this that
- 5:42Speaker 4: I may have worded it poorly, but the grammar police
- 5:45Speaker 4: was out, but this guy was like these people were like,
- 5:48Speaker 4: are you fucking nuts? Like you're putting Kempe and Pasternach
- 5:52Speaker 4: in the same section, but I wrote in parentheses, not
- 5:56Speaker 4: the same tier. Like Pasternak I consider I'm saying he's
- 6:00Speaker 4: underrated because we can talk about this, like I'm saying
- 6:03Speaker 4: David Pasternak is under rated in like the top five
- 6:06Speaker 4: NHL players in the league, Like I believe he's like
- 6:08Speaker 4: ascended into that, and I think he's underrated in that
- 6:12Speaker 4: People thinking like McKinnon and Koutrorov and McDavid or leaps
- 6:17Speaker 4: and bounds ahead of him. I think he's like climbing
- 6:19Speaker 4: that he's adding shit to his game and can be
- 6:22Speaker 4: for the tier that he's in, which is like, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 4: top twenty in the NHL.
- 6:27Speaker 3: He's underrated.
- 6:28Speaker 4: So again I played a little It was a little
- 6:30Speaker 4: bit of a word salad as you can see, can
- 6:33Speaker 4: see you glazing over, But I believe I was one
- 6:36Speaker 4: hundred percent correct.
- 6:37Speaker 3: And then I just was.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Doubling down, which was you know, which was pretty funny
- 6:43Speaker 4: because people were like coming back and be like, you
- 6:44Speaker 4: can just admit that you wrote like a shitty tweet
- 6:47Speaker 4: that no one understands, and I.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Was like, no, I refuse, Let's keep that down. Let's refuse.
- 6:53Speaker 4: But you know, refusing to back down is similar to
- 6:58Speaker 4: the Toronto media and the fact that they never think
- 7:01Speaker 4: they hold a part in the poorest play of the
- 7:04Speaker 4: Toronto on aple Leafs and they never want to admit
- 7:07Speaker 4: that they all have this weird sexual fetish with.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Them losing in Toronto?
- 7:13Speaker 4: Is there a different Is there a media that wishes
- 7:16Speaker 4: for the team to lose and like, I'm a big
- 7:19Speaker 4: believer in like vibrations and manifesting and visualization. There's a
- 7:23Speaker 4: collective meditative state that the Toronto media is in where
- 7:27Speaker 4: they are willing this team to lose and they love it.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Don't tell me for one fucking second that these guys,
- 7:36Speaker 4: these media guys like when this team wins.
- 7:38Speaker 1: To that end, Kafle Kelly, my buddy Irving House sent
- 7:40Speaker 1: me this blurb. I believe cathl still writes for the Call.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Kelly Beebles pronounce I think he so much to the
- 7:45Speaker 1: Toronto Star. This is the blur he wrote the leafs
- 7:47Speaker 1: of the Hotel California sports teams you can check out,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but you never leave. I have no idea how it
- 7:52Speaker 1: got this way or how you fix it. But it's
- 7:53Speaker 1: the root cause that leaves inability to perform. It's not
- 7:56Speaker 1: that they're not good enough. It's that they hate going
- 7:58Speaker 1: to work. They hate the people they see at work,
- 8:00Speaker 1: but the perks are so good and the job has
- 8:02Speaker 1: so few expectations of them that they'll do anything to
- 8:04Speaker 1: avoid finding new work.
- 8:06Speaker 2: They prefer to stay here forever, feeling sorry for themselves.
- 8:09Speaker 4: See, it's just like they they make up these things,
- 8:13Speaker 4: to the point where Mitch Marner was like, well, I'm
- 8:16Speaker 4: out of here and was looking to get like there's
- 8:19Speaker 4: just you know, it didn't work. They tried to put
- 8:21Speaker 4: something together. Now the Leaves have played bad. They haven't
- 8:25Speaker 4: played good in this home stand. I mean, oh, four
- 8:27Speaker 4: and one, that's unacceptable. They didn't piss the drop. But again,
- 8:30Speaker 4: they've dealt with a ton of injuries this year. I
- 8:33Speaker 4: think they're in the top two teams in Man games lost.
- 8:36Speaker 4: But like key players, you know, Willy Neelander's out, you're
- 8:40Speaker 4: missing Willy Kneelander, Chris Tanna, if you're missing Dakota Joshua
- 8:43Speaker 4: nick Wah was out in the I think he missed
- 8:47Speaker 4: the rest of the game last night too, so he's
- 8:49Speaker 4: out now. So you're like they've been battling through Austin's
- 8:54Speaker 4: wasn't healthy for half the year. So like to me,
- 8:56Speaker 4: I did see something online which is and I'll get
- 8:59Speaker 4: to the Willy Nielander because I got some thoughts on that,
- 9:01Speaker 4: but the what you see here is like, in my mind,
- 9:05Speaker 4: if I'm a Toronto Maplea's fan, I'm a little excited
- 9:07Speaker 4: because I'm like, hey, at this point, let's not fucking
- 9:10Speaker 4: pretend like even if you make the playoffs and you're
- 9:13Speaker 4: fully healthy.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Do you think this team makes.
- 9:15Speaker 4: A run without adding any pieces or do you now
- 9:19Speaker 4: look and go, hmmm, is a top five pick potentially
- 9:22Speaker 4: in the cards right now? Is there a way to
- 9:24Speaker 4: bring in a severely a very very good Noticephila, a
- 9:28Speaker 4: very very good talent in this draft because it's a
- 9:31Speaker 4: good draft this year.
- 9:32Speaker 3: So do you start looking at that?
- 9:33Speaker 4: I know Matthew Nyes came out, which was listen, good
- 9:36Speaker 4: for him, but he was like, I don't look at that.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I haven't looked at the scoreboard.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I think we're like still firmly in the race and
- 9:41Speaker 4: make your eight points out and you're you're struggling right
- 9:45Speaker 4: and eight points when you have to jump The problem
- 9:46Speaker 4: with like making the.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Playoffs too many teams to catch.
- 9:49Speaker 3: At this point.
- 9:50Speaker 4: You got to leapfrog teams and that's hard because those
- 9:52Speaker 4: teams are getting points and you got it, they gotta
- 9:54Speaker 4: leaprob what four teams right now? Yeah, so you got
- 9:57Speaker 4: to go on a run like Buffalo did, and even
- 9:59Speaker 4: sometimes that's not enough like Buffalo, what on? This has
- 10:02Speaker 4: been on this incredible pa and there's still like three
- 10:06Speaker 4: points out of there are three points into a playoff,
- 10:08Speaker 4: spot like it's not. They lose two or three games
- 10:11Speaker 4: and they're back out again, so it's very it's very tight,
- 10:15Speaker 4: so there's still a way to cut. But I think
- 10:17Speaker 4: they're kind of getting to that point. And I tweeted
- 10:19Speaker 4: last week about teams that I think are eliminated right now,
- 10:22Speaker 4: and that caused a stir as well because somebody who
- 10:25Speaker 4: grammer policed me again, but I said, only in the East.
- 10:27Speaker 4: The only team I think is hypothetically, not statistically but eliminated.
- 10:32Speaker 4: It's like the Rangers. But it's getting close. So but
- 10:37Speaker 4: enough of that. Now to the Willie Neelander. Once again,
- 10:41Speaker 4: I think very biased Toronto media. I hope they clipped
- 10:44Speaker 4: this and post on social media. Mikhail Sergachev did this
- 10:48Speaker 4: recently or did it earlier in the season in Utah?
- 10:51Speaker 4: No one said a fucking thing. He did it walking
- 10:53Speaker 4: out of the tunnel. Toronto's gonna find a way.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Was Willy Niland or wrong and doing that? Yeah, I
- 10:58Speaker 4: don't think Sergachev should have did anything. It's stupid. I
- 11:00Speaker 4: don't think Kneeland studet. You get paid, you're sitting in
- 11:03Speaker 4: a press box and tank top most of the time.
- 11:06Speaker 4: You kind of get to do whatever you want. You
- 11:08Speaker 4: play this cool fact, you're great, love it. That's your personality.
- 11:11Speaker 4: You know, we're trying to bring this to the game.
- 11:13Speaker 4: We're trying to evolve the game. But there's a guy
- 11:16Speaker 4: that gets paid a salary that is much less than
- 11:19Speaker 4: to you, that films the rink, and he's told to
- 11:24Speaker 4: by a producer to film the press box, and that
- 11:29Speaker 4: producer is told by somebody higher up than to film
- 11:32Speaker 4: that Willy Neelander that box. So for you to do that,
- 11:36Speaker 4: it's a little bit like, Okay, you're cool, great, sweet,
- 11:39Speaker 4: you're in a press box. But I think Toronto media
- 11:42Speaker 4: blew it up. But I think that Willy Neelander like
- 11:46Speaker 4: a fine I understand, and I agree with Haros's decision
- 11:51Speaker 4: of like his explanation was like, you have to conduct
- 11:54Speaker 4: yourself like an NHL player inside the rink, on the
- 11:58Speaker 4: ice just as much as outside. But Sergachev didn't get
- 12:01Speaker 4: anything when he did it, so I seem like there's
- 12:03Speaker 4: a little bias, But that's kids thrown. The media is
- 12:05Speaker 4: a lot bigger and kind of I think the noise
- 12:07Speaker 4: got too loud, but again I don't think you should
- 12:10Speaker 4: be doing that. But it's fucking it is what it is,
- 12:14Speaker 4: and uh, this is it's a dumpster fire right now.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Though, Yeah, circa chief flipped bird last April. Like I said,
- 12:21Speaker 1: nobody cared as far as the injury. Still Warts has
- 12:23Speaker 1: been a big when he's been out all season and
- 12:25Speaker 1: the lead's gotta jump three teams to get in the
- 12:27Speaker 1: wild card eight points back.
- 12:28Speaker 2: We were talking about this.
- 12:28Speaker 1: With the Panthers recently, just saying, you know, what's that margin,
- 12:31Speaker 1: what's that deficit once you get to the Olympic break,
- 12:33Speaker 1: because I think if it's eight points and four teams,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you're pretty much dun ski like, there's just no way
- 12:37Speaker 1: you can make the math work.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Panthers are kind of there, I mean a little, but yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 4: it's I think eight points is very difficult.
- 12:47Speaker 2: That's right.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Shows meantime, the Ducksters, I want to ask you opinion
- 12:51Speaker 1: on Bruby Wright. That's an unbelievable injury. What kind of
- 12:54Speaker 1: a workout misap is that? I mean, you're a pretty
- 12:55Speaker 1: fit guy. Don't think you've ever read an injury like that.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Yeah, we kind of glossed over that. I think everybody did.
- 13:00Speaker 4: He's just like I'm going to show you. I was like,
- 13:02Speaker 4: you must have drumped up play or a bar in
- 13:05Speaker 4: his head. I think the what you know, he might
- 13:08Speaker 4: have been doing like chess press and he kind of
- 13:10Speaker 4: was going to fatigue. And usually when you go to
- 13:13Speaker 4: fatigue in the chess press with dumbbells, he kind of
- 13:16Speaker 4: lose the handle on it. He might have just hit
- 13:18Speaker 4: his noodle with a dumbbell or I don't know, but
- 13:21Speaker 4: what's Craig Brube lifting like heavy?
- 13:24Speaker 3: Likeuck? How old is the guy? He's in sixties.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Well, he's seventh all time in Pelhiman, second all time
- 13:30Speaker 2: in majors. I would guess he's like fifty eight. He
- 13:33Speaker 2: still wants to kick ass.
- 13:34Speaker 4: He just eating, just eating plates and weights in there
- 13:39Speaker 4: was munching on. He's just going on there and fighting
- 13:41Speaker 4: the gym.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I'm appreciated, but I don't think it's his fault. Like
- 13:44Speaker 2: everyone could all file the coach.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Yeah, injuries and again injuries to key players, and I
- 13:50Speaker 4: mean he's playing the roster that was developed. It's just
- 13:53Speaker 4: hasn't been healthy for most of the season. So like
- 13:57Speaker 4: it's hard, it's frustrating, but you know they're not playing
- 14:00Speaker 4: the right way though.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Right now.
- 14:01Speaker 4: They're cheating all over the ice and defensively gross cut.
- 14:04Speaker 4: All those bowls last night were I mean, Buffalo looked fantastic.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Great news for Linda.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Yeah, Lindy ruh Yeah, Lindy at home, Rough on the road,
- 14:14Speaker 4: rough to play against, I mean, stick on pie. I
- 14:17Speaker 4: thought Lindy Rouff was dead in the water. But this
- 14:19Speaker 4: fuck guy's got nine lives like.
- 14:20Speaker 3: A Cat's incredible.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Everyone said, Okay, new GM, new management, Lindy Roughs, don't
- 14:24Speaker 1: know Lindy resuscitated, Lindy killed him.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Savers gonna take the playoffs. Jack Adams, Ye.
- 14:30Speaker 3: He's gonna win. Spun guys win the Jack Adams.
- 14:34Speaker 1: By the way, chief is sixty for the record tal clarifying,
- 14:36Speaker 1: So yeah, six years Yeah, still get mugged by the way.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Ducks are soaring right now. They've reben in a major way,
- 14:41Speaker 1: looking like their breakout season appeared to be going off
- 14:43Speaker 1: the rails. They went seven in a row. I saw
- 14:45Speaker 1: them lose that game seven Ford Edmonton. However, it was
- 14:48Speaker 1: pretty expected because third game of four nights had a
- 14:50Speaker 1: great first period, but after that, Edmonton's defense in particularly
- 14:53Speaker 1: was unbelievable. Buscher was coming out that six point game
- 14:56Speaker 1: on Saturday four to three and were Calgary Sunday, though
- 14:58Speaker 1: they guy to talk was the rookie Beckett Seneca first
- 15:01Speaker 1: career NHL hat trick. You followed up two assists against
- 15:04Speaker 1: the oil every time he was on the ice.
- 15:05Speaker 5: JD.
- 15:06Speaker 1: John Forslan and Jody Shelley and Thomas Sake every ravened
- 15:09Speaker 1: this kid, like, my god, look at beck at Seneca.
- 15:11Speaker 2: You can't keep your eyes off him.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And so this Calder race, which felt like it was
- 15:14Speaker 1: demidoph and Matthew Schaeffer demandoff leading right now in points,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but Seneca right now leads in goals with eighteen. He
- 15:20Speaker 1: was drafted third overall by Anaheim in twenty twenty four,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and as Chris Poger asked for the video when he
- 15:25Speaker 1: got drafted, which was hysterically he literally gave an open
- 15:28Speaker 1: mouthed oh my God, because he was stunned that Amaheim
- 15:30Speaker 1: picked him.
- 15:31Speaker 2: And Patferbeek said.
- 15:32Speaker 1: He purposely had taken other people out to dinner and
- 15:35Speaker 1: had avoided talking to Seneca. He didn't want to have
- 15:37Speaker 1: any indication that he was going to take him all along.
- 15:39Speaker 1: He was his guy, and Seneca was genuinely shocked and
- 15:42Speaker 1: he got picked, as was his dad. But this kid's
- 15:44Speaker 1: a player right now. This Calder race, we thought it
- 15:46Speaker 1: was a two horse race, JD might be a three
- 15:47Speaker 1: man race.
- 15:49Speaker 4: A this is one of the I'd have to like, look,
- 15:54Speaker 4: this has been one of the better classes of rookies
- 15:57Speaker 4: in a season. I mean when you really go down
- 15:59Speaker 4: the list, like you mentioned the three, but you got
- 16:01Speaker 4: Ryan Leonard at thirty points, you got Oliver kap And
- 16:04Speaker 4: who's been fantastic.
- 16:05Speaker 3: At twenty seven points, you.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Got Fraser Minton that's having a great year for Boston.
- 16:11Speaker 4: And then you kind of, you know, after that, you
- 16:12Speaker 4: got Justin Sordiff that's in Washington's. It's on a heater
- 16:16Speaker 4: right now. It's the future is really bright. So it's
- 16:20Speaker 4: been fun. It's been fun to watch every night. I
- 16:22Speaker 4: feel like there's a rookie that we're like, oh wow,
- 16:23Speaker 4: great play, had a great night. But Beckett Seneca I
- 16:27Speaker 4: did a tape Rouman hum earlier in the season, him
- 16:30Speaker 4: and Braden Bowman. But I was kind of telling people like,
- 16:32Speaker 4: look out for this kid. I think he was a
- 16:35Speaker 4: dark horse to win the Calder. I mean he's tied
- 16:37Speaker 4: in points with Demodov, but like the kid shoots the puck.
- 16:40Speaker 4: I mean, you can go through his stats, and you
- 16:42Speaker 4: know he's got one hundred and twenty shots. I mean
- 16:45Speaker 4: shooting percentage at fifteen percent. He's playing seventeen minutes of night,
- 16:50Speaker 4: so he's playing more minutes, two more minutes in Demodov
- 16:52Speaker 4: a night. Obviously, Schaeffer, I think is it's hard to
- 16:57Speaker 4: go against Shaeffer for the Calder. But I mean Beckett's.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Man.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Who Yeah, what do I think Demanov's better than beck.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Hit No Demodov Rookie of the Year.
- 17:10Speaker 3: No, it's Schaefer Schafer all day.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Hands down, eighteen years old playing those kind of minutes.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Islanders playoff team.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Yeah, shae for one hundred percent. But I'm just saying
- 17:19Speaker 4: Demanov versus Beckheit Seneca. And that's the thing is people
- 17:22Speaker 4: don't see him enough because you know, as games are
- 17:25Speaker 4: at if most people are on the East Coast and
- 17:28Speaker 4: most of the people that vote, which I don't think
- 17:30Speaker 4: half of them should have a voting right is get
- 17:34Speaker 4: gets a chance of m and they don't even stay
- 17:35Speaker 4: up for the games and they're just like, oh, yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 4: this guy had a couple points last night.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I'm going to vote for him.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It was talking to Joel Quenvill because he goes this
- 17:42Speaker 1: is the most media I've spoken to in months, and
- 17:43Speaker 1: we started laughing and Anaheim He's like, I go with
- 17:46Speaker 1: the athletic. He's like, yeah, guy from the athletic Orange
- 17:48Speaker 1: County registered. And that's not even every day like sometimes
- 17:51Speaker 1: I just I finished practice and I go home.
- 17:54Speaker 4: I had the one game in Edmonton, which was like
- 17:57Speaker 4: my biggest meetia because when you think about it, I
- 17:58Speaker 4: played Florida, Arizona, Dallas, San Jose, so I never had
- 18:02Speaker 4: media until I went to like the Canadian city. So
- 18:05Speaker 4: it's exactly that, Like in San Jose would be like
- 18:08Speaker 4: the one beat writer that like basically sleeps at the rink,
- 18:11Speaker 4: but just like kind of you know, Trot's in and
- 18:13Speaker 4: it's more now there's like three or four guys, but
- 18:16Speaker 4: these guys just cover the team.
- 18:17Speaker 3: They're like with you on the road all year.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Like it's like you talk to one guy, yeah that
- 18:22Speaker 4: you basically know him by name, he knows, he knows
- 18:24Speaker 4: ATM pin code, Like he's just part of the he's
- 18:27Speaker 4: part of the group. You should talk him, you know,
- 18:29Speaker 4: you probably It's funny those guys get chirped so much
- 18:32Speaker 4: in the smaller markets because they're just you can't hide.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Like if you're in Edmonton, there's like twenty media people
- 18:38Speaker 4: coming for you. Yeah, so like you can't there's all
- 18:41Speaker 4: these articles and how shit you are. In San Jose,
- 18:43Speaker 4: it's like, you know, it's like Sheng Peng is the
- 18:45Speaker 4: one guy there and he's the one that's shitting on you.
- 18:48Speaker 4: So you see him every day, you're face to face
- 18:50Speaker 4: of them, and he's like, you know, it's it's it's funny,
- 18:53Speaker 4: it's it's hostile environment. But yeah, it's it's interesting with
- 18:56Speaker 4: those those markets, how less you know, how it's not covered.
- 19:00Speaker 4: But he's he's as advertised, his skating, his ability to
- 19:04Speaker 4: pass the pup shoot, he's gonna be a stud man.
- 19:06Speaker 4: The Anaheim's in a good spot. So but I you know,
- 19:09Speaker 4: he's he's borderline. Was one of the guys that was
- 19:12Speaker 4: going to get flowers today. But there's a lot out
- 19:14Speaker 4: there in the NHL that deserve flowers. So but Beckett
- 19:17Speaker 4: is he's a stud. He's a he's a flourishing, budding
- 19:20Speaker 4: superstar already.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Could also throw a couple of rookie goalies.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Maybe Jacob Dobish gets some love of the halves, and yes,
- 19:26Speaker 1: per Volsta, which gets us to the vole of Saint
- 19:28Speaker 1: Paul Olympic break Fast approaching the trade deadline. Not long
- 19:32Speaker 1: after that, Elliott Fraeman Kyle Bukowskis over the thirty two
- 19:35Speaker 1: Thoughts podcast mentioned the Wild open a trading Yes, per Volstat.
- 19:39Speaker 1: The Wild rookie rank second NHL four shutouts, He's seventh
- 19:42Speaker 1: of the nine to fourteen say percentage, big trade for
- 19:44Speaker 1: Quinn Hughes. Bill gar in the Wild clearly going for it.
- 19:47Speaker 1: They've an established her already in Philip Gustafson.
- 19:50Speaker 2: What do you think, JD. Do you drade the wall
- 19:52Speaker 2: of Saint Paul if you're Bill.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Garon, Yeah, he's shooting from the hemp I mean, you
- 19:57Speaker 3: have two goalies. One's got to go. You've already becked Gustavson.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind it.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I know they're looking or they need center depth, but
- 20:06Speaker 4: I know, you know Trocheck's been floated out there, which
- 20:09Speaker 4: would be an interesting I think would be a good
- 20:11Speaker 4: pick up for them. They're looking for depth centerman, not depth,
- 20:14Speaker 4: but like you know, second third line centers. I think,
- 20:18Speaker 4: uh yeah, he's shooting from the hip. He wants this bad.
- 20:22Speaker 4: I don't think with what they have, I think they can.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I don't think they can win a Cup up front.
- 20:28Speaker 1: You know, you're well, like Corey Wongur, buddy, it was
- 20:31Speaker 1: a part of Wolfpack. He's saying, the guy get some Russians.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Make Carell Caprizo.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Happy, Well, he is. He needs his Rooskies Roos travel.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah, but like his last Yeah, he hasn't played the
- 20:46Speaker 4: way he's played at the start of the season. I
- 20:47Speaker 4: mean his last ten games, he's got a sub nine
- 20:49Speaker 4: hundred save percentage, and it was he was hot as
- 20:53Speaker 4: a pistol early in the season. So yeah, I think
- 20:56Speaker 4: it's definitely that's a good trade piece. There's a lot
- 20:58Speaker 4: of teams that could use a goalie of that age
- 21:00Speaker 4: and caliber, and I'm sure he could maybe, you know,
- 21:05Speaker 4: but again they're the ones that see it more than anybody.
- 21:08Speaker 4: But I like, but again, you can't trade wolves. You
- 21:11Speaker 4: can't trade Wolfstead to New York for like a tro
- 21:14Speaker 4: Check because Trocheck's you got your stirk in, you got
- 21:17Speaker 4: you got quick.
- 21:18Speaker 3: You don't need anything, you know what I mean.
- 21:20Speaker 4: So looking around the league, if I were to go
- 21:24Speaker 4: off top of my head, some centermen that are out,
- 21:26Speaker 4: but there's a lot of teams that need centers.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Man, it's it's one of the it's one of the airs.
- 21:30Speaker 4: When we're we're missing top six centermen in the NHL,
- 21:34Speaker 4: like we're missing the top two line centerment. Like you
- 21:36Speaker 4: look like Utah needs center depth. Obviously you got Minnesota
- 21:42Speaker 4: that's it. So yeah, only too. There's a lot of
- 21:44Speaker 4: centermen that are missing. Just fucking with you, there's more.
- 21:46Speaker 4: I'll think about it. Montreal is another one that I
- 21:49Speaker 4: think needs some center depth. Washington with Pierre Luke Tubois
- 21:53Speaker 4: that's out, so you know it's it's gonna be interesting
- 21:57Speaker 4: and I think a lot of I think Trocheck's name
- 21:58Speaker 4: is going to be on a lot of people's lists
- 21:59Speaker 4: for sure, so wouldn't be surprised. But I don't think
- 22:02Speaker 4: Wolftead would go to New York, so that kind of
- 22:05Speaker 4: throws that out there.
- 22:06Speaker 2: It's a challenge for Begeren.
- 22:07Speaker 1: As you mentioned, the division is just so strong no
- 22:09Speaker 1: matter what, like you can put this kind of season
- 22:11Speaker 1: together and still knock out of the first round.
- 22:12Speaker 2: As we've discussed.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Before, Jonathan tabs interesting trade piece depth Centerman.
- 22:19Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I don't know how much he has left in the tank.
- 22:22Speaker 2: He's dead he's like a fourth line center. He's not
- 22:25Speaker 2: like a second He was.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Doing a vedic medicine in India. Thanks full Man.
- 22:29Speaker 2: What about nozom Cadri Teles thrown.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Out NASM's another one is so NAZM Wolfstead to Calgary
- 22:36Speaker 4: for Nasum. I could get around with because you got
- 22:40Speaker 4: wolf and then you got Wolfstead. Wow the w W
- 22:44Speaker 4: W Wolf Wolfstead tandem Calgary fans.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Tell thrown it out there.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Meantime, speaking of making moves, the Islanders are doing that.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Just a week after Rangers president GM Christchiuriy wrote a
- 22:56Speaker 1: letter alerting fans that a retail was coming. First move
- 22:59Speaker 1: made on Monday at the Rangers uh In fact, defenseman
- 23:02Speaker 1: Carson Seussh was held out of the game Monday before
- 23:04Speaker 1: him to the rival Islanders, a rare Rangers Islanders trade
- 23:07Speaker 1: for a third round pick. And then on Tuesday the
- 23:09Speaker 1: Islanders go another trade another local rival, getting Andre Pallott
- 23:12Speaker 1: third rental this year and a six uner next year
- 23:15Speaker 1: for maximum siploicoff. What move could come next? What do
- 23:18Speaker 1: you think about the Rangers and Islanders make a moves here?
- 23:20Speaker 2: JD don't see that every day.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Yeah, a little bit of that's an easy fight, little
- 23:24Speaker 4: cross cross bridge action there. Yeah, easy, that's a little
- 23:28Speaker 4: puddle jumper. I mean, you got to talk about Matthew
- 23:31Speaker 4: Darch in this because what he's done. He got Palot Susie,
- 23:36Speaker 4: a six round pick and a chance to move up
- 23:39Speaker 4: a few spots in the third round for basically Maxim
- 23:42Speaker 4: Siplicoff like that, And that's a young kid that wasn't playing.
- 23:46Speaker 4: That's a tidy piece of work from this little fucking
- 23:49Speaker 4: frendcheet that's that's coming in here, and he's taken the
- 23:51Speaker 4: world by storm in this GM role. And it started
- 23:54Speaker 4: with Matthew Schaeffer, but I think he did a good job.
- 23:56Speaker 4: They have some injuries on the back end, so I
- 23:58Speaker 4: think they needed a depth defenseman. Carson Seussie doesn't necessarily
- 24:02Speaker 4: move the needle for me, but he's gonna help them
- 24:05Speaker 4: out with they're missing some d man, some important guys.
- 24:09Speaker 4: And then Andre Pilots, a guy that has won Cops
- 24:12Speaker 4: and he's got a pedigree and he not playing his
- 24:15Speaker 4: best hockey, but he can help this team, I think,
- 24:18Speaker 4: and usher them along. And you look at the Kyle
- 24:19Speaker 4: Palmarily injury and a couple other key pieces that they've
- 24:23Speaker 4: been missing, like you're bringing in some veteran ness probably
- 24:26Speaker 4: not a word, but you're bringing yeah, veteran, savvy, veteran
- 24:30Speaker 4: presence with somebody that's won to kind of get you going.
- 24:33Speaker 4: And again the Metropolitan Division. This team is Islander team
- 24:38Speaker 4: most likely will finish number two if they keep going
- 24:41Speaker 4: the way they're going.
- 24:42Speaker 3: They're playing some really good hockey. So uh so, yeah,
- 24:45Speaker 3: I think it's a.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Great way for Drury. I mean, listen, how much love
- 24:48Speaker 4: do I have for Drury right now? And what he's done?
- 24:50Speaker 4: I mean he I think, okay, yeah, like he got
- 24:56Speaker 4: britis and pieces. I think it's gonna be how does
- 24:57Speaker 4: he move trocheck and what is he doing bringing in
- 25:00Speaker 4: like very very good assets.
- 25:04Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 25:05Speaker 4: But yeah, I think good trade for you know, that's
- 25:08Speaker 4: it's a little bit of friendly fire, which is nice
- 25:10Speaker 4: to see that they just platuned each other between the teams.
- 25:13Speaker 4: I thought it was like taboo to trade somebody from
- 25:16Speaker 4: the Rangers to the Islanders.
- 25:17Speaker 2: They rarely red sox you don't see, you know, like now,
- 25:20Speaker 2: like it's like.
- 25:21Speaker 3: A fucking unwritten rule.
- 25:22Speaker 4: This guy is writing AI letters to the fans and
- 25:25Speaker 4: he's trading to the arch nemesis guys unhinged.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Tell us why you like Matthew Darsh.
- 25:34Speaker 6: McGill graduate Matthew Darsh first of all, and uh and
- 25:40Speaker 6: his his brother j P played in the NFL. By
- 25:42Speaker 6: the way, it's a long snaplay for the Seahawks. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 6: and is and is now a doctor. Very smart and
- 25:50Speaker 6: very athletic family.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Do you see that?
- 25:52Speaker 4: You see the brain power in that household? She's playing
- 25:56Speaker 4: four dy chess. It's like you, and it's like you
- 25:58Speaker 4: and O and trying to travel across country again.
- 26:01Speaker 1: He's got my flowers. That guy's unbelievable. I mean that
- 26:03Speaker 1: kind of calmness under stress. One flight's canceled, no problem,
- 26:06Speaker 1: going to the business travel.
- 26:07Speaker 2: No problem.
- 26:09Speaker 4: There's people that are solutions based and there's people that
- 26:11Speaker 4: are emotions based. Gotta be solutions based.
- 26:14Speaker 2: That's well said, Keep emotion out of it.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Meantime, Barkie's back sort of two time defending champion of
- 26:20Speaker 1: Florida Panthers. Absolute dogfight again in the playoffs, huge emotional boost.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Captain Alexander Barkoff skated in full gear first time.
- 26:27Speaker 2: On the ice.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Is tearing his ACL and m sail in September only
- 26:31Speaker 1: been four months since he sustained an injury that was
- 26:33Speaker 1: supposed to.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Keep him out seven to nine months.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Jam Bilzito said he doesn't expect to the captain played
- 26:38Speaker 1: during the regular season, but how big of a boot.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Just see him on the ice here, JD.
- 26:43Speaker 4: The guy's going to be back before the playoffs. April
- 26:46Speaker 4: Tasha Barkoff will be playing in the regular season this season. Wow,
- 26:51Speaker 4: take it for what you want, but it's going to happen.
- 26:53Speaker 4: It's going to happen.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Okay, what happens if they're ten points out, its April
- 26:56Speaker 2: Fool's day. They don't worry about it.
- 26:58Speaker 4: He's you ain't stopping him, whether they're in or out.
- 27:00Speaker 4: He's the captain.
- 27:01Speaker 5: I like it.
- 27:02Speaker 3: He's going to be back. I'm telling you he is.
- 27:05Speaker 3: He trains himself.
- 27:07Speaker 4: And funny enough, I talked to some other trainers there
- 27:10Speaker 4: in Florida, and the way they described is like he
- 27:13Speaker 4: trains his body for this kind of not this kind
- 27:16Speaker 4: of thing to happen, expecting injury, but like so his
- 27:19Speaker 4: body can bounce back and respond quickly once he has
- 27:22Speaker 4: an injury.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And and you know, the medical the medical.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Industry so so like surgeries and all that, like when
- 27:30Speaker 4: I was getting myself done. Like it's so far advanced,
- 27:33Speaker 4: and it's fifty years ahead of like all the advancements
- 27:37Speaker 4: in technology for medicine. It's crazy what they can do
- 27:39Speaker 4: surgically to repair you. But the thing that hasn't kept
- 27:43Speaker 4: up with it is physiotherapy and rehab and now. But
- 27:47Speaker 4: there's people that are within that realm that have different techniques,
- 27:53Speaker 4: and Sasha Barkov firmly believes in those techniques of like
- 27:56Speaker 4: how to really recover more, you know, more quickly. Is
- 28:00Speaker 4: it that my grammar's all off too early today?
- 28:04Speaker 2: As quick as you can, you're right, Marko.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Yeah, he's able to recover faster because of these techniques.
- 28:10Speaker 4: And it's like it's not black magic or anything. He's
- 28:12Speaker 4: just trains his body to recover from injury quicker. And
- 28:15Speaker 4: it's it's not like because they say you're four to
- 28:17Speaker 4: six months because you have an ACL surgery, that doesn't
- 28:20Speaker 4: mean you can't play in four to six months. It
- 28:22Speaker 4: just means that for insurance purposes, the doctor has to
- 28:26Speaker 4: tell you, don't ruin my surgery, it's four to six months.
- 28:29Speaker 4: But once you get off the table and you've surgery
- 28:33Speaker 4: is completed, you're healed.
- 28:35Speaker 5: You're not.
- 28:35Speaker 4: You're healed, you're repaired. You just need to stay off infection.
- 28:38Speaker 4: And then once you stay off infection and the incision heals,
- 28:42Speaker 4: I mean, you're good to go because everything's are pretty
- 28:44Speaker 4: You just got to slowly build it back. But people
- 28:46Speaker 4: think that you just have to sit around and not
- 28:48Speaker 4: do anything until the three month period. But he's I
- 28:51Speaker 4: bet you he was in the pool probably two three
- 28:54Speaker 4: days after surgery with waterproof bandages.
- 28:57Speaker 3: He was probably walking moving.
- 29:00Speaker 4: So I expect him to be back one thousand percent
- 29:03Speaker 4: before the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Then why would Bilziodo say so confident he's not gonna
- 29:09Speaker 1: see him in the regular season.
- 29:11Speaker 4: I don't believe anything those guys say. They're all political
- 29:14Speaker 4: theater out there.
- 29:16Speaker 2: But what's the benefit of Bilzieta's saying that?
- 29:18Speaker 3: Well, so people leave him alone.
- 29:20Speaker 2: He's not playing.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Why would he be skating now.
- 29:25Speaker 4: If he wasn't trying to play it this year and
- 29:28Speaker 4: wasn't confident he was gonna play like he's early, Like
- 29:31Speaker 4: he's early.
- 29:32Speaker 2: He was skating.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Everybody's saying Barkie's back. He was. He was on the
- 29:35Speaker 3: ice of Winter Classic skating. I saw him. I had
- 29:39Speaker 3: eyes on him, I saw him a peepers.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Could be a date he's gonna come back?
- 29:44Speaker 3: Then, well I did.
- 29:48Speaker 4: I can't say I spoke to him, so he told
- 29:50Speaker 4: me something and I can't say it online, but I
- 29:52Speaker 4: can leave it hanging in the wind.
- 29:53Speaker 2: But okay, how about this.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I'll say March twenty first, before or after, just because
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm only mentioning that day because it's to start a.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Spring, so you can it's gonna be, It's gonna be after.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Okay, Barkoff will be back after winter. That's fine, before
- 30:05Speaker 1: the start of spring. Sometime in the season.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Yeah, what's the what's the groundhome sayings Puckstatwani Phil or whatever?
- 30:12Speaker 3: Yeah, punks and I Phil, Punks, Tony Phil. He'll be out,
- 30:15Speaker 3: he'll be He'll be there before Phil comes out of
- 30:18Speaker 3: his hole.
- 30:20Speaker 1: So yeah, he has to see his shadow. That we
- 30:22Speaker 1: had six more weeks. That's February second, So you're right,
- 30:24Speaker 1: so March it's in that range.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Late March.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Well, that's when he comes out, is that early.
- 30:28Speaker 2: February second Groundhog days and that six weeks after that,
- 30:30Speaker 2: so then.
- 30:30Speaker 3: You're any fucking spring.
- 30:32Speaker 2: They say March twenty first to spring but it's really not.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Not in New York.
- 30:36Speaker 2: No, New York.
- 30:37Speaker 3: It's June twentieth.
- 30:39Speaker 2: No, that's not true.
- 30:40Speaker 1: You just gotta get to April and you're okay, how
- 30:43Speaker 1: about spring and March? I mean in monch we all
- 30:45Speaker 1: I was. When I was there, I asked this guy,
- 30:47Speaker 1: he goes winter here is eight months ago.
- 30:48Speaker 2: That's not triggers.
- 30:49Speaker 5: It is.
- 30:50Speaker 2: You can because I'm not exaggerating.
- 30:51Speaker 4: Ask my parents. We have we have what we call
- 30:55Speaker 4: it the fake out. You'll get to like March April
- 30:59Speaker 4: and it'll like, it'll be nice, and then all of
- 31:01Speaker 4: a sudden you'll get just the fucking dump the snow
- 31:04Speaker 4: and it'll drop down to minus and you're like, what's
- 31:06Speaker 4: going on right now?
- 31:07Speaker 2: The super draft? Tell me he goes, No, he goes.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'm telling you from Labor Day until April, even in
- 31:12Speaker 1: well into April, it's Montreal is still freezing.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Geez. Four months. But that four months is electric.
- 31:17Speaker 1: All right, speaking of electric, Special guest host Nate Thompson,
- 31:20Speaker 1: it's coming up right after this.
- 31:21Speaker 2: You're an NHL in scripted.
- 31:37Speaker 4: All right, welcome back. Ad Nan Verk had to take
- 31:40Speaker 4: a quick sabbatical. So first off, a war and Welcome
- 31:43Speaker 4: to our friend Nate Thompson, who's joining us for this interview,
- 31:46Speaker 4: and we'll be with us here and there this season
- 31:49Speaker 4: and hopefully into the future.
- 31:51Speaker 3: So our next gift.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Was drafted thirteenth overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the
- 31:55Speaker 4: twenty twenty NHL Draft. Since then, he has turned into
- 31:58Speaker 4: one of the most consistent goal scores in the league.
- 32:00Speaker 4: He's on the verge of his third straight thirty goal
- 32:03Speaker 4: season and is a key piece for a Hurricanes team
- 32:05Speaker 4: that has been picture of consistency for years. It's the
- 32:08Speaker 4: man himself, Seth Jarvis, and if you're still with us,
- 32:13Speaker 4: he could not make it, but we gave a nice
- 32:16Speaker 4: intro to him. But we do have Nate Thompson here
- 32:19Speaker 4: alongside tal Pinchewski, So Nate, we're not gonna waste his.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Time with you.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Seth couldn't make it, unfortunately, he's very apologetic. We're gonna
- 32:27Speaker 4: try to get him next week. But Nate, let's just
- 32:29Speaker 4: chop it up for twelve to fifteen minutes. Get you
- 32:31Speaker 4: kind of comfortable with the boys, and uh, how you doing, buddy,
- 32:35Speaker 4: what's been going on?
- 32:36Speaker 5: I'm good now? Everybody left, everyone left turned off.
- 32:42Speaker 3: We got downloads though.
- 32:45Speaker 5: Just subscribe that ship. That's it.
- 32:48Speaker 7: I'm good, buddy. I'm gonna be like, oh yeah, for sure, No,
- 32:52Speaker 7: I'm good, but I'm good to be here. It's it's
- 32:56Speaker 7: it's nice to be a part of the crew. It's
- 32:58Speaker 7: this will be fun.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Well, you've been doing a ton of stuff with you know,
- 33:02Speaker 4: you've done some stuff with the Canadians, you dipped your
- 33:05Speaker 4: tone with the NHL Network, and now you've you know,
- 33:08Speaker 4: you're doing some stuff with the Tampa Bay Lightning and studio.
- 33:10Speaker 4: How's it been kind of managing that travel schedule and
- 33:13Speaker 4: it's kind of ramped up for you this year more
- 33:15Speaker 4: than last.
- 33:16Speaker 7: Yeah, it has, and you would know more than everge Ad.
- 33:18Speaker 7: I mean you're you're a busy guy as well and
- 33:20Speaker 7: doing stuff with the NHL Network. So yeah, it's just
- 33:22Speaker 7: been balancing at all. I mean, I I you know,
- 33:25Speaker 7: having one year under my belt. I guess you could
- 33:27Speaker 7: say doing some stuff with the Kings, you know, in
- 33:30Speaker 7: between the benches, you know all that stuff. You know,
- 33:33Speaker 7: Ben doing radio. I know you've done radio too. I
- 33:35Speaker 7: mean you're just you're you're just trying to say yes
- 33:37Speaker 7: to everything right now, and I'm just you know, I
- 33:39Speaker 7: think it's about getting your foot in the door. And
- 33:41Speaker 7: and then now doing NHL Network, getting to go out there.
- 33:43Speaker 7: I go out there once a month and do a
- 33:46Speaker 7: few shows. That's been great too. And it's just such
- 33:47Speaker 7: a great group of people too to work with their
- 33:51Speaker 7: as well. So I mean it's been it's been a
- 33:53Speaker 7: lot of fun. It's been busy. As you know, it
- 33:55Speaker 7: gets it gets crazy. You watch a lot of hockey,
- 33:59Speaker 7: that's for sure, been watching a lot of hockey, not stop.
- 34:02Speaker 7: But that's been good, and you know, it's great though,
- 34:04Speaker 7: I mean it's been it's a transition to get into
- 34:07Speaker 7: this and now, like you said, like I'm sure for yourself, Judy,
- 34:10Speaker 7: I know, I see all the time, as you know,
- 34:12Speaker 7: things start to ramp up as you obviously do more
- 34:14Speaker 7: and more and more.
- 34:15Speaker 5: So it's it's been it's been exciting. I mean, I mean,
- 34:18Speaker 5: I've been enjoying it.
- 34:20Speaker 4: How great you know, because the three of us predominantly
- 34:24Speaker 4: reside tall as well on the West coast. How brutal
- 34:28Speaker 4: is it that, like the studios are all on the
- 34:30Speaker 4: East coast, and like when you're covering the Tampa Bay
- 34:32Speaker 4: lightning and and you're also doing the network stuff like
- 34:35Speaker 4: you're up to like two in the morning watching hockey
- 34:37Speaker 4: versus out West, You're like in bed at ten you've
- 34:40Speaker 4: seen all the games, you're fresh, you can rewatch the
- 34:42Speaker 4: highlights like I've been. I'm like, we need to open
- 34:44Speaker 4: a studio somewhere on the West Coast because it makes
- 34:47Speaker 4: no sense to be covering sports in the East.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Oh.
- 34:50Speaker 7: I'm so with you on that, just because I always
- 34:52Speaker 7: tell people when you I'm sure the same thing. Like
- 34:55Speaker 7: watching football on the West Coast, there's nothing like it
- 34:58Speaker 7: because you're starting at the perfect time. It's like ten am,
- 35:01Speaker 7: nice little brunch, breakfast, get it and yeah, look look
- 35:05Speaker 7: coffee first lieu of games, and then you go one
- 35:07Speaker 7: pm and then you finish at five thirty and you're done.
- 35:10Speaker 7: You're just sleep by You're done football by eight thirty. Yeah,
- 35:12Speaker 7: I mean, that's that's the best part about being on the.
- 35:16Speaker 5: Like what guess what they call it? The best coast
- 35:18Speaker 5: is the West Coast, right, So.
- 35:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's there's no complaints about that with
- 35:23Speaker 7: with the timing because yeah, watching hockey, I mean, I know,
- 35:26Speaker 7: going out East and going the NHL Network and doing that,
- 35:29Speaker 7: you know, JD when you're watching hockey late. It's like
- 35:33Speaker 7: you feel like a zombie the next day when you're
- 35:35Speaker 7: you're up that like, well.
- 35:37Speaker 4: It's so fast, right, so you're like you're trying to
- 35:39Speaker 4: keep your eyes and you know, I always find like
- 35:42Speaker 4: during the playoffs, it's like I can I'm a wreck
- 35:47Speaker 4: after the playoffs just because those games that go to
- 35:50Speaker 4: overtime and double overtime and you got to do shows
- 35:53Speaker 4: the next day, so you're kind of you want to
- 35:54Speaker 4: be up to date.
- 35:56Speaker 3: You can obviously watch them in replay.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Now we're in the twenty first century, it's twenty twenty six,
- 36:00Speaker 4: but you still want to watch it live. It's sense
- 36:02Speaker 4: to kind of feel it. But you know, getting this
- 36:04Speaker 4: some of the teams you're covering, you know, you do
- 36:06Speaker 4: some stuff with Tampa. You know, let's talk about obviously
- 36:09Speaker 4: the state of the Tampa Bay Lightning right now, and
- 36:12Speaker 4: then you know, kind of bleeding over into is tal
- 36:15Speaker 4: I wanted us to chat about and tell you jump
- 36:17Speaker 4: in as well as just the the stadium series in
- 36:21Speaker 4: Tampa during Gasparilla, Like that's gonna be an incredible event,
- 36:24Speaker 4: So let's start there.
- 36:26Speaker 7: Yeah, firstly, I mean the Tampa Bay Lightning the way
- 36:28Speaker 7: they've been this season, and I'm sure you've you could agree,
- 36:32Speaker 7: and I mean you've seen you talk about it. But
- 36:34Speaker 7: you know how I mean, I put Colorado and then
- 36:37Speaker 7: I put Tampa and then I put everybody else. That's
- 36:40Speaker 7: where I think they're at this season. I think just
- 36:42Speaker 7: think they're so elite and it's weird to me that
- 36:44Speaker 7: they're so close in the standings because I don't think
- 36:47Speaker 7: that they're close to the other teams at all. If
- 36:49Speaker 7: it came down to a seven game series in the East,
- 36:53Speaker 7: I think you have to just talk about their depth
- 36:55Speaker 7: and what like guys like Darren Radish and Moser and
- 37:00Speaker 7: Des stew and all these guys like now you look
- 37:02Speaker 7: at their team and I arguably the best decour in
- 37:05Speaker 7: the league now with with guys with Headman and McDonough
- 37:08Speaker 7: out and lilla Berg and these guys that are that
- 37:11Speaker 7: are you know, not playing and even Braydon point like
- 37:14Speaker 7: Braiden points hurt and they're doing what they're doing.
- 37:16Speaker 5: It's crazy. So I yeah, and Darren Radish, I mean,
- 37:20Speaker 5: what do you pay him right now?
- 37:22Speaker 7: I mean, if it's me, if and this is what
- 37:24Speaker 7: I would think Julian Breeswell would do because you're playing
- 37:27Speaker 7: in Tampa. You're playing on the PP with Cooch. You know,
- 37:30Speaker 7: he's dishing it over to you all the time. You know,
- 37:33Speaker 7: what about us eight year deal around six or seven,
- 37:38Speaker 7: seven or seven to eight around there, Like you know
- 37:40Speaker 7: a little bit of security you've been you know, he's
- 37:43Speaker 7: been in the American League for a while, he's you know,
- 37:45Speaker 7: he's been around. Like it'd be tough to turn down.
- 37:49Speaker 6: I Like, I was just curious, Nate, just as someone
- 37:52Speaker 6: who's familiar with the franchise. I mean, people have been
- 37:56Speaker 6: kind of for years now. I feel like totally underplaying
- 37:59Speaker 6: this franchise. They don't draft well, they don't develop well.
- 38:03Speaker 6: There are two veteran heavy you know, but clearly there's something.
- 38:07Speaker 6: You know, culture is an overused word, but there's something
- 38:10Speaker 6: going on there. Like I'm learning about Dominic James and
- 38:13Speaker 6: Charles Eduard dust Stus and just like the next man
- 38:16Speaker 6: up philosophy is so next level clearly with this organization,
- 38:20Speaker 6: with all the injuries they've had and how they're i mean,
- 38:23Speaker 6: they're basically running away with the division right now, and
- 38:25Speaker 6: it's a pretty good division.
- 38:26Speaker 5: So what's going on there?
- 38:27Speaker 3: From what you've seen?
- 38:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean even from my time in Tip when
- 38:30Speaker 5: I was there.
- 38:31Speaker 7: I mean, they were always known for their really good
- 38:33Speaker 7: scouting staff and how good they were, how how good
- 38:36Speaker 7: they were at finding players. I mean, look at bradon
- 38:38Speaker 7: Point that thinks the third round pick, the Koutrov second
- 38:42Speaker 7: round pick. I mean, you go back, you go to
- 38:44Speaker 7: Andre Palott was a seventh round pick. I mean, you
- 38:46Speaker 7: can go down the list. There's just a number of
- 38:48Speaker 7: number of guys they've they've found. And then I think,
- 38:52Speaker 7: you know, the it starts from the top. I think
- 38:54Speaker 7: when you have an owner that comes in Jeff Vinnick
- 38:57Speaker 7: and he kind of changes the whole culture of not just.
- 39:00Speaker 5: The organization, but the city. The city itself has changed
- 39:03Speaker 5: in the last ten years and it's grown because of
- 39:06Speaker 5: him and how much he's done for the community. So
- 39:08Speaker 5: it starts there.
- 39:08Speaker 7: And then you know, you had different leadership with Steve
- 39:10Speaker 7: Eiserman than Julian Breezewail, who's a tremendous GM two, and
- 39:15Speaker 7: they've they just created this you said it, this culture
- 39:18Speaker 7: there where everyone buys in, everyone knows, and and then
- 39:22Speaker 7: they know it's a winning ingredient. And because of that,
- 39:26Speaker 7: I mean, you just have players that love being there,
- 39:28Speaker 7: love playing there. Love being a part of the organization
- 39:31Speaker 7: and want to stay there. So I think when you
- 39:34Speaker 7: have that, it's it's a recipe for one of the
- 39:37Speaker 7: best organizations in the league. And I think they are
- 39:39Speaker 7: because that reason.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Uh, where's the love?
- 39:44Speaker 5: Big?
- 39:45Speaker 3: Hold on?
- 39:46Speaker 6: Hold, let's see if we get him back with on
- 39:47Speaker 6: one second?
- 39:48Speaker 3: Did he get back?
- 39:49Speaker 6: Yeah, you froze on us for a second. Yeah, just
- 39:52Speaker 6: for a little bit. So maybe just finish that thought.
- 39:54Speaker 6: We'll go on at an extend.
- 39:59Speaker 5: I did a NHL Network radio on this three hours yesterday.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Weird in a rivers.
- 40:04Speaker 5: It's cool.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Just just finished, you know, finish that thought.
- 40:07Speaker 6: It usually records anyways, even when you freeze, so it
- 40:10Speaker 6: should be okay. But maybe just fire finish your thought
- 40:12Speaker 6: and then we'll go on from there.
- 40:15Speaker 5: I don't know where it was at.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I don't know what you were heading with it, but
- 40:18Speaker 3: it sounded good.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:20Speaker 7: I was just saying, you know, Jeff Vinnick, I think
- 40:22Speaker 7: when he took over for that team, Uh, you know,
- 40:26Speaker 7: it changed everything.
- 40:27Speaker 5: Change the leadership, change the culture.
- 40:29Speaker 7: Because we know, we all know that when you have
- 40:31Speaker 7: a good owner, it starts there and trickles all the
- 40:33Speaker 7: way down. You can look at the Florida Panthers and
- 40:35Speaker 7: what they've done. So I think with Tampa, it starts
- 40:38Speaker 7: there and then they've had great leaders Steve Eisman and
- 40:42Speaker 7: Julian Breezewas has done an unbelievable job and just created
- 40:45Speaker 7: a culture there where players want to play there, players
- 40:48Speaker 7: want to stay there. And then you have a coach
- 40:50Speaker 7: like John Cooper who has evolved every year and just
- 40:53Speaker 7: made himself. I mean, I think a Jack Adams coach
- 40:56Speaker 7: this year.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean you look at their You you get
- 41:00Speaker 4: a job there and you're set for life in the NHL.
- 41:02Speaker 4: But I think like those franchises and organizations like San
- 41:06Speaker 4: Jose always put in that category because the city's you know,
- 41:10Speaker 4: smaller market, you need to be so much more creative.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Like you go to them getting you know, now shifting
- 41:15Speaker 4: over to stadium series, you go to the way that
- 41:18Speaker 4: they create, you know, creatively got the stadium series with
- 41:23Speaker 4: billboards after the All Star Game apparently like Betman was,
- 41:28Speaker 4: you know, taking the car out, the car service out
- 41:30Speaker 4: to the airport and then all these billboards put up
- 41:32Speaker 4: strategically to be like hey, let's do outdoor next, and
- 41:35Speaker 4: I mean talk about the atmosphere that's gonna be with
- 41:38Speaker 4: Gasparilla at Buccaneers Stadium. You know, I was on the
- 41:41Speaker 4: plane with Bob Chesterman, who's you know, one of the
- 41:45Speaker 4: great execs that puts together these beautiful events at the
- 41:48Speaker 4: stadium series, and even he's excited, like, if this ice
- 41:51Speaker 4: holds up, this is gonna be epic.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:54Speaker 7: I can't believe it's still that it's even still happening
- 41:57Speaker 7: at Raymond James Stadium. It's wild to me, but it's incredible,
- 42:01Speaker 7: and I think it's i mean, look the atmosphere of
- 42:05Speaker 7: the Lightning fans and the Bucks fans together and then
- 42:08Speaker 7: you know it's all it's all in one. It's gonna
- 42:10Speaker 7: be wild, and and for them to be able to
- 42:13Speaker 7: make this happen and it's unbelievable. I mean, I'm going
- 42:17Speaker 7: down as an alumni. Uh so I'm just gonna get
- 42:20Speaker 7: to experience it that way. So I'm really looking forward
- 42:22Speaker 7: to because I've I've never ever in my wildest dreams
- 42:26Speaker 7: that I ever think Tampa was gonna have an outdoor
- 42:28Speaker 7: game while I was playing there. It's just I never
- 42:30Speaker 7: even thought about it. And the fact that they're doing it,
- 42:33Speaker 7: which is funny. They're doing it against Boston who I was.
- 42:35Speaker 7: I was drafted by two. So it's funny.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Both teams are there will be there for so it'll
- 42:40Speaker 5: be it'll be it'll be crazy.
- 42:42Speaker 6: I gotta ask because you know both you guys have
- 42:45Speaker 6: played in a few of these alumni games. What's the
- 42:47Speaker 6: vibe like at these things? Like the stakes are I
- 42:50Speaker 6: imagine kind of low. Maybe there's some money on the board.
- 42:53Speaker 6: I don't know, Like, obviously, the big spectacle is the
- 42:56Speaker 6: actual NHL game this weekend, But as as someone who's
- 42:58Speaker 6: still a part of the organization, joining the rest of
- 43:01Speaker 6: the alums, what's the vibe like when you get to
- 43:03Speaker 6: compete in these things things.
- 43:06Speaker 7: I don't even know what kind of competition we're going
- 43:08Speaker 7: to be doing, or how what kind of games we're
- 43:09Speaker 7: gonna be playing.
- 43:11Speaker 5: I think we're gonna be playing in some kind of
- 43:12Speaker 5: game with.
- 43:14Speaker 7: Maybe other fans or whatever on Sunday. But it's I mean,
- 43:18Speaker 7: more than anything in JD can attest this. You know,
- 43:19Speaker 7: when you get back with alumni or guys you've played
- 43:22Speaker 7: with or you know, previous players, there's nothing like it.
- 43:25Speaker 7: It's like being back playing again and just being with
- 43:27Speaker 7: the fellas.
- 43:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I you've kind of made a name for yourself
- 43:33Speaker 4: and them recently. You you kind of dropped the mits
- 43:35Speaker 4: every single time I've seen your last.
- 43:40Speaker 7: You kind of have your stage till Yeah, the I
- 43:43Speaker 7: will say the best, right, Yeah, the last two were
- 43:47Speaker 7: it was it wasn't me too.
- 43:48Speaker 5: It was like the first one was outdoor was Barnaby.
- 43:50Speaker 5: He was like, came up to me. It was like, hey,
- 43:52Speaker 5: come on with that or whatever. I'm like, all right,
- 43:54Speaker 5: let's let's do it.
- 43:54Speaker 7: Then the next one was at Choresy Classic and they
- 43:57Speaker 7: told me before Jordan Nolan was like, hey, you're gonna
- 44:01Speaker 7: fight Jim at this time of whatever John Rasty. I'm like, yeah, Jim,
- 44:06Speaker 7: John Rasty. So they were set up. They were set up.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Yeah, but how close I watched that A couple of
- 44:14Speaker 4: those were getting close to Johnny. I saw the eyes
- 44:16Speaker 4: start rolling back in his head. There a couple of
- 44:18Speaker 4: those times.
- 44:19Speaker 7: Well it was yeah, I mean I had never seen
- 44:22Speaker 7: him like up close like that before, really right, and
- 44:25Speaker 7: I was and holding on to him. I'm like, oh geez,
- 44:28Speaker 7: you know, and I could feel you're right. Actually, there
- 44:30Speaker 7: was a couple I could feel like wind like it
- 44:32Speaker 7: was hitting my face and I was like, oh boy,
- 44:35Speaker 7: if these hit me, it would be uh, lights out.
- 44:37Speaker 7: But he's uh, he's built like a absolute tank, like
- 44:41Speaker 7: just just like a cinder block, you know.
- 44:43Speaker 5: So I was like, this is crazy. The guy's even
- 44:46Speaker 5: fought him.
- 44:47Speaker 3: He's a scary, scary motherfucker man.
- 44:51Speaker 4: But like shifting, you know, shifting to like the overarching
- 44:54Speaker 4: the league as we kind of close this out O
- 44:56Speaker 4: this great interview with Seth Jarvis is we were talking
- 44:59Speaker 4: a little bit before about the schedule and probably the
- 45:02Speaker 4: reason why you had to cancel is the schedule is crazy.
- 45:05Speaker 4: It's hard to find any time the NHL schedule already
- 45:08Speaker 4: in season, you're in a bubble, but it's very hard
- 45:10Speaker 4: to find time to kind of you know, do things
- 45:13Speaker 4: you want, you know, the time. Some days run away
- 45:16Speaker 4: from you and you're in this weird bubble. So but
- 45:19Speaker 4: never more so than on these years for the Olympics,
- 45:21Speaker 4: when it's when it's crazy, it's so condensed, so like,
- 45:24Speaker 4: you know, how do you and have you been you
- 45:29Speaker 4: played in an Olympic year where like the schedules condensed
- 45:32Speaker 4: like how tough it is, because I know how tough
- 45:34Speaker 4: it is. That we could both chop in back and
- 45:36Speaker 4: forth like you kind of just feel like you get
- 45:38Speaker 4: into this like spin cycle and you're there's like less practice.
- 45:43Speaker 4: It almost feels like for a little bit, if you
- 45:45Speaker 4: can stave off injury, that you get into this like
- 45:48Speaker 4: weird rhythm.
- 45:49Speaker 3: But you're like just always tired.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Yeah, you're permanently tired.
- 45:53Speaker 7: I know exactly what you're talking about, and and uh,
- 45:56Speaker 7: I want to ask your opinion after I talked about
- 45:58Speaker 7: but because I'm curious, But yeah, I know it is
- 46:02Speaker 7: it you you you said it. You're playing at the
- 46:04Speaker 7: other day basically, and the days that you're not playing,
- 46:08Speaker 7: you know, you're off or you're going to the rink
- 46:10Speaker 7: and probably a maintenance day or something like that. Right,
- 46:13Speaker 7: you're not usually skating. But I yeah, I feel like,
- 46:17Speaker 7: and this is the best way to put it, and
- 46:18Speaker 7: you probably would agree, is every night is a game night,
- 46:22Speaker 7: minus the nights you play every night it's a game night.
- 46:25Speaker 5: You're like, Okay, I got to play another game tomorrow.
- 46:27Speaker 7: You're right, you kind of you're almost in like a
- 46:28Speaker 7: twilight zone of just playing games, and you know, you
- 46:31Speaker 7: realize what.
- 46:33Speaker 5: Day it is, what time it is. It's just next game,
- 46:35Speaker 5: the next game, the next game.
- 46:36Speaker 7: But that's what I was gonna ask you, like, did
- 46:39Speaker 7: you because I don't know if you saw like McDavid
- 46:41Speaker 7: came out and said, you know, I like the schedule.
- 46:44Speaker 5: I like doing this.
- 46:45Speaker 7: I like how we're just playing games and this and that,
- 46:47Speaker 7: Like did you like this? I know, I know, did
- 46:50Speaker 7: you like this or was it just like uncle too much?
- 46:54Speaker 3: It's weird because you know, if the schedule was like
- 46:59Speaker 3: this and that.
- 46:59Speaker 4: You know, again, I never listen to anything McDavid says
- 47:02Speaker 4: about the state of this date to the league or anything,
- 47:05Speaker 4: because he would he would play every single day. And
- 47:09Speaker 4: again that's him, and he's in a class like with
- 47:12Speaker 4: like the celebrinis or like that. I've heard Maclin's like that,
- 47:15Speaker 4: but there's a reason why they're superstars. I could not
- 47:17Speaker 4: have done that just mentally. I could not stay in
- 47:21Speaker 4: it to do it that much. You know, I needed
- 47:24Speaker 4: the time off away from the rink, like just because
- 47:27Speaker 4: you know we had talked a little bit. I dealt
- 47:28Speaker 4: with so much anxiety and stuff like that. So for me,
- 47:30Speaker 4: I was like, fuck, I can go to the rink again.
- 47:32Speaker 4: I'm crazy, Like these guys just love it, they live
- 47:34Speaker 4: for it. They're just built different. But I did I
- 47:38Speaker 4: did like less practice for sure, because you know, I
- 47:42Speaker 4: always loved like my pregame rituals, like I'd rather have
- 47:46Speaker 4: the practice, stay off, get a workout, and then do
- 47:49Speaker 4: morning skate. I like getting like an hour morning skate,
- 47:52Speaker 4: whereas flow drills we do some power play stuff like
- 47:55Speaker 4: I always enjoyed that on a game day versus I
- 47:58Speaker 4: know a lot of guys like the practice day and
- 47:59Speaker 4: then no morning skate. So for me, I just liked
- 48:02Speaker 4: it that we always just did morning skate when it
- 48:04Speaker 4: was condensed, like you're just a morning skates, so you
- 48:06Speaker 4: get into this rhythm of like, okay, it's an off day.
- 48:09Speaker 4: You go maybe get a little lyft in and you
- 48:11Speaker 4: get a son on and you get a massage and
- 48:13Speaker 4: you kind of just you warm up. But yeah, I
- 48:17Speaker 4: just for me, it just always was to your point,
- 48:21Speaker 4: and it was different like when you look back to
- 48:23Speaker 4: twenty ten, like you were playing your division what eight times? Yeah,
- 48:27Speaker 4: and you weren't playing any East, so the travel was
- 48:30Speaker 4: more like within your division, so it was a fucking grind.
- 48:32Speaker 4: You're playing like, oh my god, I'm playing LA for
- 48:34Speaker 4: the sixth time in twelve days, like uncle, But I
- 48:39Speaker 4: guess it's it's so tough because you know, we can
- 48:43Speaker 4: talk about schedule, I think until smoke comes out of
- 48:46Speaker 4: my ears because it's still gonna you know, the season
- 48:49Speaker 4: is getting longer and longer, and it is what it is.
- 48:53Speaker 4: They're trying to find a rhythm with the NHL schedule.
- 48:55Speaker 4: But you know, obviously I think some guys will like it,
- 48:59Speaker 4: but I just don't like seeing so many injuries.
- 49:01Speaker 5: That's yeah, me, I hate it.
- 49:02Speaker 7: I think that's a big one too for me, is
- 49:04Speaker 7: so many guys getting hurt and able and not able
- 49:06Speaker 7: to sustain the schedule.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Like you said, yeah, Towl's got a quick HABS question.
- 49:14Speaker 6: I got, I got to get in the habs. I'm
- 49:15Speaker 6: going there this weekend. I'm gonna trail this weekend for
- 49:18Speaker 6: my dad's birthday. My son's going to play in the
- 49:19Speaker 6: snow for the first time ever. And obviously, Nate, I
- 49:22Speaker 6: know you. You started doing uh, you know, color for
- 49:25Speaker 6: the HABS broadcast, which is very exciting. So first wanted
- 49:28Speaker 6: to hear about the transition to doing that, and second,
- 49:32Speaker 6: just getting a closer look at this team, exciting young cores,
- 49:35Speaker 6: all offense, no defense.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Who's stuck out?
- 49:38Speaker 6: But is there a particular player who stuck out for
- 49:41Speaker 6: you when you got a chance to look at them
- 49:43Speaker 6: more closely as a as a broadcaster.
- 49:47Speaker 3: There's some defense. There's some defense that just got rid
- 49:50Speaker 3: of their goalie.
- 49:50Speaker 5: Coach, So yeah, I saw that. Relieve, Yeah, we know
- 49:54Speaker 5: who is the issue exactly they found it? No tell that.
- 50:03Speaker 7: To answer your first question, I had a little bit
- 50:06Speaker 7: of practice before I did those in game color. I
- 50:10Speaker 7: I got to cover the WHL Finals last May for
- 50:14Speaker 7: TSN with Medicine Hat and Spokane, So that was the
- 50:16Speaker 7: first time I've ever done in game color.
- 50:18Speaker 5: Was was those games.
- 50:21Speaker 7: And then did some stuff with the kings obviously between
- 50:23Speaker 7: the benches, but nothing like in game color. So to
- 50:26Speaker 7: have that practice helped doing those games for sure.
- 50:29Speaker 5: But it was awesome.
- 50:30Speaker 7: I mean to get to do in game color for
- 50:33Speaker 7: the Montreal Canadians, a team that I played for, and
- 50:36Speaker 7: it's it's the habs. I mean, JD can attest that
- 50:39Speaker 7: he's from there, so he knows what it's like and
- 50:43Speaker 7: the novelty behind it to do it. So it was
- 50:46Speaker 7: it was it was special, It was awesome. It was
- 50:48Speaker 7: it was a great experience. But I mean, as far
- 50:50Speaker 7: as their team and players, I mean, I think a guy.
- 50:54Speaker 5: I don't know why.
- 50:55Speaker 7: I mean, obviously it's it's obvious to pick him out,
- 50:58Speaker 7: but I think I picked him out because I just
- 51:01Speaker 7: saw how physically dominating he can be. Was Slavkovski, I
- 51:06Speaker 7: think just seeing him up close.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Sleeping people are sleeping on him.
- 51:10Speaker 5: Yes, and he.
- 51:15Speaker 7: I totally agree with you because he like and yes,
- 51:18Speaker 7: Suzuki drives a play and they have all these guys.
- 51:20Speaker 7: But for me, like Slavkovski might be the most impactful
- 51:25Speaker 7: player on that team when it comes to changing a
- 51:28Speaker 7: game because he can do it in so many different ways.
- 51:31Speaker 7: And I saw that firsthand. I mean, he's was super impressive.
- 51:35Speaker 7: Out of all the talent they have, he was. He
- 51:38Speaker 7: was the one that really stuck out to me. And
- 51:39Speaker 7: and you could go down the list. It wasn't just him, obviously,
- 51:41Speaker 7: demied Off and Hudson and you know I named Suzuki, Cowfield,
- 51:45Speaker 7: all these guys. I mean, they have a list of
- 51:47Speaker 7: young superstars coming. But I mean this team, I think
- 51:51Speaker 7: in the next three to four years, I think they
- 51:53Speaker 7: win a Cup.
- 51:53Speaker 5: I really do.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Oh, I gave it the five years. He went a
- 51:57Speaker 3: little bit. He went a little bit. He kind of
- 51:59Speaker 3: undercut me there.
- 52:01Speaker 4: Or you went five years, they went five years. Yeah,
- 52:03Speaker 4: I said I went five ers on Twitter. I think
- 52:05Speaker 4: they're Yeah, they're what they've done top to bottom. We
- 52:08Speaker 4: talk about organizations. I think they've fixed a lot in
- 52:11Speaker 4: upper management, GM, coach, they got everything in place.
- 52:14Speaker 3: It's just going to be a matter of time. And
- 52:16Speaker 3: maybe the goaltending.
- 52:17Speaker 4: I mean all three goalies were struggling, so sometimes you
- 52:21Speaker 4: have to look outside.
- 52:22Speaker 3: It sucks, it's a bad job, but but it is
- 52:25Speaker 3: what it is.
- 52:25Speaker 4: So Nate, thanks so much for coming on and Uh
- 52:28Speaker 4: be in our interview, and we're definitely gonna have you.
- 52:31Speaker 4: I think we're gonna see Maria, especially when I'm off
- 52:34Speaker 4: for the Olympics, so you'll be jumping in with Adnan
- 52:36Speaker 4: and I'll be boots on the ground sending it all
- 52:40Speaker 4: hostage in Milan with some pasta. But thanks off for
- 52:42Speaker 4: Nate Thompson and Uh. Back after the break, we got
- 52:46Speaker 4: cinephil and sixty with ad Nan back from a sabbatical, sixty.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Here with Chason. I appreciate you to go.
- 53:02Speaker 3: You go ahead, I don't have anything play well.
- 53:05Speaker 1: I'm going to get your impact here, at least your
- 53:07Speaker 1: reaction to the Oscar nominations sixty nominations for sinners Ryan
- 53:11Speaker 1: Coogler's films, unbelievable. It sets a record. Now there's more categories.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Best Casting is now new category. It's benefited by that.
- 53:17Speaker 1: But there were some surprises. Best Supporting Actress they got nominated,
- 53:20Speaker 1: and Best Supporting Actor Delway Lindo, which was a genuine surprise.
- 53:23Speaker 1: It's the greatness of the Oscar nominations is no matter
- 53:25Speaker 1: how much closely you fall the Golden Globes, the Actor
- 53:27Speaker 1: Awards as I do formerly, the Segs or the baftis no.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Matter if there's always one or two genuine surprises.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Ago did not see that coming and I had not
- 53:34Speaker 1: see Delward Lindall getting nominated, a true dark horse in
- 53:38Speaker 1: that category, was able to get in. Tough for Paul
- 53:40Speaker 1: mescal who I did love playing Shakespeare's Hamnet, but there's
- 53:43Speaker 1: only five spots. The nomination I cared the most about
- 53:45Speaker 1: every Ciskel Nev used to do everyth they go out.
- 53:47Speaker 2: There's one nomination you care the most about.
- 53:49Speaker 1: What's the one, and for me it was Ethan Hockey
- 53:50Speaker 1: did get nominated for Best Actor for Blue Moon, which
- 53:53Speaker 1: I was thrilled, and the script was nominated as well.
- 53:55Speaker 2: So it was really happy. Two nominations. Richard Linkln are
- 53:57Speaker 2: unfortunately missing out for director.
- 53:58Speaker 1: The other one I was really happy about was it
- 54:00Speaker 1: was just an accident, the Great Iranian Film, which was
- 54:03Speaker 1: submitted by rants because the Iranian government has literally imprisoned
- 54:07Speaker 1: Jafar Panahi, the directors who has to release his film
- 54:09Speaker 1: because he's in hiding in France. But the movie was
- 54:11Speaker 1: nominated for Best International Film. He also got nomay for
- 54:13Speaker 1: Best Screenplay, so I was thrilled with that. And the
- 54:16Speaker 1: thing that I am the most thrilled with is this.
- 54:18Speaker 1: For twenty plus years, every year I watch every nominee
- 54:22Speaker 1: for Best Picture, Best Director, all four acting categories and
- 54:25Speaker 1: the two screenplay categories, and generally I try to get
- 54:27Speaker 1: to as much of the rest as I can editing, score, etc.
- 54:30Speaker 1: But those ones I always get. For twenty years, we're
- 54:31Speaker 1: been good and people say, how does that happen? I said, well,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you got to get out in front of it, so
- 54:35Speaker 1: you know, in May at the Canned Film Festival when
- 54:37Speaker 1: they're talking about it was just an accident, you got
- 54:39Speaker 1: to know go ahead and watch the movie then, so
- 54:40Speaker 1: it's not like January twenty second and all of a sudden.
- 54:42Speaker 2: You have to watch all these movies. So when the.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Nominations come out, I'm always happy, going yep, all the
- 54:46Speaker 1: Best Picture nominees seeing them, Train Dreams, Netflix, whatever, actors
- 54:49Speaker 1: seeing them, Okay, great. The thing I was happiest about
- 54:51Speaker 1: JD is I was reluctant and refusing to watch Wicked
- 54:56Speaker 1: for Good because I said, I didn't like the first one,
- 54:58Speaker 1: which was well received, and not I have to sit
- 55:00Speaker 1: through the second one, which I'm hearing is not well received.
- 55:02Speaker 2: So I said, I don't have to.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Suffer through two hours, but if it gets nominated for
- 55:05Speaker 1: Best Picture, or Ariana Grande is up for Best Sporting Actress,
- 55:08Speaker 1: I have to watch it. Not only was it not
- 55:09Speaker 1: nominated any of the major categories, it didn't get nominated
- 55:12Speaker 1: for anything, production design, costume design, et cetera. So I
- 55:16Speaker 1: am thrilled for the Oscars. Saved me two hours of
- 55:18Speaker 1: my life. I didn't have to watch Wicked for Good.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Well done by the Academy.
- 55:23Speaker 4: How excited it? You're just tickle pink. You didn't even
- 55:26Speaker 4: like the first once? You're like, yeah, right, well was
- 55:29Speaker 4: it about the first one?
- 55:30Speaker 2: The first one?
- 55:31Speaker 1: I just thought it was really labored and drawn out,
- 55:34Speaker 1: with the exception of the final twenty minutes, which I
- 55:35Speaker 1: thought was great when Cynthia Rivo sings.
- 55:37Speaker 2: That that last song, but mostly yeah, yeah, yeah, define
- 55:41Speaker 2: gravity as the song. But the rest of them was
- 55:43Speaker 2: just painful to get through. So I was like, I
- 55:45Speaker 2: can't like to sit through a second one.
- 55:47Speaker 3: But now do you like Wizard of Oz?
- 55:49Speaker 2: Do you love the Wizard of Oz?
- 55:50Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 55:50Speaker 1: Timeless, all right, but even the music and my wife
- 55:53Speaker 1: I saw it on and we saw in Chicago, we
- 55:55Speaker 1: weren't crazy about Wicked.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Broadway community can't get a win, rising ticket prices
- 56:01Speaker 4: and closing shows, and now Wicked no nominated.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Some people suggesting Sinners could be one of those movies.
- 56:06Speaker 1: You know, you get a ton of nominations, you don't
- 56:08Speaker 1: actually win anything. Gangs of New York one of my favorites,
- 56:10Speaker 1: you know, ten nominations went oh for ten. Killers of
- 56:13Speaker 1: the Flower Moon got a ton of nominations, shut out.
- 56:16Speaker 1: The Irishman, one of my favorites, Oh for ten at
- 56:18Speaker 1: the Oscars. So just because you get a lot of
- 56:20Speaker 1: nominations doesn't mean you're gonna not gonna win.
- 56:22Speaker 2: I don't think it goes oh for sixteen.
- 56:23Speaker 1: To be clear, I think Coogler wins Best Original Screenplay,
- 56:26Speaker 1: but I still don't have it as the favorite. I
- 56:27Speaker 1: do think one Battle after another is gonna win. I
- 56:29Speaker 1: think Petanna is gonna win Best Director. But it's crazy
- 56:31Speaker 1: to think JD to your point when she's the Wizard
- 56:33Speaker 1: of Oz. If someone said to you, like years from
- 56:35Speaker 1: now and you look at history and say, okay, what
- 56:37Speaker 1: film got the most nominations of all time? The Godfather,
- 56:39Speaker 1: Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, No Sinners? What this horror
- 56:43Speaker 1: movie that came up from Mike Good that got the
- 56:45Speaker 1: most dominations?
- 56:46Speaker 3: Not Good?
- 56:47Speaker 2: You didn't like it at all?
- 56:48Speaker 4: No, They're like, there was some fun, interesting parts of it,
- 56:51Speaker 4: but again it's like, I don't know, it's just to me,
- 56:56Speaker 4: I thought it was a good movie. Yeah, but to me,
- 56:59Speaker 4: it's not like this sixteen nomination chucker fucking movie. Yeah
- 57:05Speaker 4: about whatever the hell this was about where they're stealing
- 57:08Speaker 4: souls and stuff like that and taking the singing. I
- 57:11Speaker 4: like the music, and I think they should win, you know,
- 57:14Speaker 4: Best Musical Score like all that stuff.
- 57:16Speaker 3: I think they should win, and and set design. But
- 57:19Speaker 3: I mean it was interesting. There's yeah, there's stuff that
- 57:22Speaker 3: I think they should win, but sixteen nominations.
- 57:25Speaker 1: They're just showing white people are vampires, just sucking the
- 57:28Speaker 1: blood of the black music.
- 57:29Speaker 2: Tell your thoughts in the Oscar nominations.
- 57:32Speaker 3: Well, my first text to you, Ed I was flowers
- 57:35Speaker 3: for Delroy Lindo.
- 57:36Speaker 6: I love it when when an actor who he've kind
- 57:39Speaker 6: of always enjoyed, and it seems to he's had a
- 57:41Speaker 6: great career, finally gets an acknowledgment. We saw it a
- 57:44Speaker 6: few years ago with excuse me, Sam Elliott when he
- 57:47Speaker 6: was in A Star is Born. And I feel like,
- 57:49Speaker 6: I don't know how these things work and how they
- 57:52Speaker 6: decide who wins. I'm not saying Delroy Lindo was gonna
- 57:54Speaker 6: win an Oscar, but he's someone who I've loved for
- 57:57Speaker 6: a long time. I really liked Sinners and loved him
- 58:00Speaker 6: in it, and I'm just excited to see him that
- 58:03Speaker 6: he's going to be there.
- 58:04Speaker 3: You know, what do you like about it?
- 58:07Speaker 6: I enjoyed the story. I liked I liked the I
- 58:11Speaker 6: like the action. I like this original premise. I like
- 58:14Speaker 6: basically so I also like the subtext. Listen, the subtext
- 58:20Speaker 6: here is that the African American contribution culturally to the world,
- 58:27Speaker 6: which was born out of this out of slavery is unmatched. Right,
- 58:32Speaker 6: How blues led to jazz led to soul led to
- 58:35Speaker 6: hip hop and that's the culture, that's what defines culture
- 58:38Speaker 6: around the world. That's kind of we don't need to
- 58:40Speaker 6: dig too far into it, but that's you know, there's
- 58:42Speaker 6: the big scene that has been very divisive among critics
- 58:45Speaker 6: from from Sinners that everyone talks about, the big dance scene.
- 58:48Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 58:49Speaker 3: I like the idea behind it.
- 58:51Speaker 5: I'm a big.
- 58:52Speaker 6: Cooglar guy, big Michael B. Jordan, I'm all in on Sinners.
- 58:55Speaker 6: I don't know if it'll win in any Oscars, but
- 58:57Speaker 6: it's cool to see a film that's a bit more
- 59:00Speaker 6: of a popcorn movie get acknowledged at the Oscars.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I will say that as far it was like
- 59:04Speaker 1: big budget movies. I mean one Battle of No Hat
- 59:06Speaker 1: of a big budget you know, made over one hundred
- 59:08Speaker 1: million dollars. That's getting thirteen nominations. Sinners to Tallas Point.
- 59:10Speaker 1: That's a gigantic movie. I mean it made a ton
- 59:12Speaker 1: of way. This is not one of those years like
- 59:13Speaker 1: oh the independent movies broke through. Yes, there's a handnit
- 59:16Speaker 1: which is being recognized, which is a great film. I
- 59:17Speaker 1: really hope Jesse Buckley wins for Best Actress. Yes, trained
- 59:20Speaker 1: dream says get in a film on Netflix. Jewel Edgerton
- 59:22Speaker 1: small quiet movie, but like big budget blockbusters did well,
- 59:25Speaker 1: sequels did not. Though Wicked for Good ignored as was Avatar,
- 59:28Speaker 1: the Academy clearly saying we're tired of blue people, like
- 59:31Speaker 1: how many more movies.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Does James Cameron want to make? Like enough, We're not
- 59:33Speaker 2: gonna give you another Best Picture nomination?
- 59:35Speaker 3: What the what was the line in the famous line
- 59:37Speaker 3: and sinners there he licked mccoo's.
- 59:39Speaker 1: And well, he said, he asked about to eat posty,
- 59:41Speaker 1: so he said, it's like eating an ice cream cone.
- 59:44Speaker 3: And then Haley stein what's Hailey Steinfeld's line?
- 59:47Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 59:47Speaker 2: I just remember the one woman is walking mccoo's and
- 59:50Speaker 2: my knees with shake or something like that.
- 59:52Speaker 4: Anyway, good music, good movie. Congratulations Delroy Lindo, though I
- 59:56Speaker 4: do agree. Be nice to see him get his flowers.
- 59:59Speaker 2: You saw Marty Supreme Gaty, what else are you gonna
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: see now?
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: Like?
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: And once the nominations come out, people end up seeing
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: more movies. You Jill, So okay now that this gott
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: nomin we're gonna go watch this Blue Moon.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: Perhaps, Yeah, what would you recommend?
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you right now, it's an actor. Jill's
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: gonna love Blue Moon.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I'm telling you it's just an Ethana Hawk one act play.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: There's no way she's not as an actor. She'll appreciate
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: how good is acting?
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: Is that movie? Yeah?
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: I like Ethan Hawk, He's good.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Blue Moon, you guys obviously, Yeah, all right, Blue Moon?
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: I seen Marty, I saw, I saw one battle after another.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Right, also recommend Hamnet for you too.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Hamlet Shakespeare wanting to go Shakespeare.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I want ad Jason to her his Hamnet revealing right now?
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Like it? Okay?
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: Thanks?
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Step Olympic not to that is a question. Well, that's
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: a big question. I understand.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: I thought it was Hamlet. They go to the movie
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: is called Hamnet. I go, No, you have to watch
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: the movie. But yes, it is based in the creation
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: of Hamlet.
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: But is ham Net?
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: As far as the Olympic replacements are concerned.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Just a few weeks after the Olympics already geting announcements,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Jackson Lacombe will play Seth Jones. We love Jonesy, Guysavenhell
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: in scriptive for the Americans, but la Combe is in.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Just watched him on the Ducks on Monday. Announcements aren't
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: likely to end there. Bradon Point remains out the leg
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: injury participation is in question. Swedes already decimate of injuries.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Victor Hedman, Gabriel Landeskogg could miss the ternament. Leo Carlson,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Uncle Leo, and Jonas brodyin confirmed out, replaced by Marcus
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Johanson and Hampus Linnholm. What do you make JUDI like,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: imagine you're in this situation where you know you're a
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: bubble guy, you got cut and you get the call
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: you're in. That's thrilling, But I just imagine what it's
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: like to go the other way and you feel like
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: this is the moment you've always dreamt of to play
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: for your country. You played for Canady. You know what
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: that's like to not have the opportunity. I really feel
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: for these guys to have this happen so close to
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: the end of the race.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it's tough with the schedule. I mean, it's out
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: of your control, so it's really tough. I mean, if
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: I was on the bubble, I'd be targeting every single
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: player that was ahead of me and just be just.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: A foodoo doll, just poking pins. Hope this guy gets
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: hurt tonight.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Yeah, just one kill after another. Just make sure I
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: get myself there every day. I have every game circle.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: Uh no, I listen. It's it's tough, it's amazing.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: It's such ann to represent your country, and you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: I'm sure these guys are gutted, but at the end
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: of the day, you know it's out of your control.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: Nothing you can do. But yeah, it's it's gotta sucking.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: You gotta think about the amount of guys that are
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: playing through injuries right now to get there, because you're
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: at that kind of weird spot where you kind of
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: probably have something that's going on a little bit and
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: you're not telling anyone. You're not necessarily telling youone. It'll
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: be like, oh, it's not as bad as it seems.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: Just to get yourself the Olympics, you can play. So
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: I'm sure there's a lot of that. I mean, this
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: season with injuries has been crazy. The league's been decimated
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: by injuries.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: It's been a lot. The schedule's tough.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: It's gonna be crazy to commit to the Olympic breaking Okay,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: this is a spread. They're gonna be playing every other day,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: you know whatever, thirty games in two months.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: It's just going to be absurd.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: HL outdoor Game. We don't usually talk about HL regular
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: season games. We want to talk about Sheolut the players
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: who can play in the outdoor game and Hastings, Minnesota.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: On Friday night, Zach Luu scored the ot winner to
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: give the Milwaukee Admirals three two win or the Iowa
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Wild outdoor game play at the Heroes Little Complex.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: You got me there, Zach LaRue.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: The temperature at puck drop minus eight degrees fahrenheit. That's
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: the coldest outdoor game ever played in either the HL
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: or NHL. One point, the power went out and two
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: different generations fail before the third one finally got to generate.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Excuse me, third one finally got the power back on
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: the third period. Like, at what point you do again?
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: We all played hockey growing up. You played at the
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: highest level. I played at the lowest level. We've all
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: played outdoor hockey, played on ponds, had a good time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: At what point you go, Hey, this is not reminded
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: of my youth. I think this just sucks. I'm gonna
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: pack it in.
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: Yeah, all words salads aside. It's when it's too cold,
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: it's too cold, and when it's it's it. There is
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: a level where it gets a little bit too nippy
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: and you're in your nutskull all the way they disappear
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: and you're like, no, not for me anymore, and you're like,
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: you know, when you're I always say when it's really cold,
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: you'll have it's like when you're leg like your quads
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: and your legs are like they're starting to feel cold
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: and like it's like almost hurting. You're like too much,
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: and then your feet go numb. I mean, those are
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: the beautiful moments of outdoor hockey, like when you're you
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: think back, like I remember, I don't know how many
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: times I was on the outel rink till my I
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: couldn't feel my toes and I was limping home but
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: just would not come off the ice. So but yeah,
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: for there's levels where it's just it's now, I'd be
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: like fuck that, no chance. So yeah, and especially for
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: like you're in the jungle on the you know, on
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: the iron lung on the greyhound bus playing in this
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: style of game and you're probably like, what the hell
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: am I doing here making fifty grand a year.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: That's a good point with the quad star quivering, because
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: like fingers and toes always get cold pretty much immiately.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: But if your quad start shaking, like, oh my god,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: that's that's a different level of cold.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: It's time to hand out some flowers. I know you
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: were particularly passionate about this one. To Sabers captain Raspus Doleen,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: real adversity he's dealing with at Home's wife Carolina almost
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: lost her life due to a heart condition, revealed an
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Instagram messages. This week, the couple lost their unborn child.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Doleen responded to Tuesday night dominant, three goal, five point night.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Incredible showing with the Sabers captain.
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's really kind of shouldered this team this season,
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: and he's really showed a level of leadership and calmness,
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: and I mean his game has gotten to another level.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: So but I mean, I can't imagine going through that
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: playing in the season. You know, there's a couple of
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: guys I played with that's went through that, that had
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: something like that happen, and you really lean on your
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: teammates in those moments, and you lean on the guys
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: around you and and your support system, and I think
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: he's done that and he really you know, I saw
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: comment from last night him he really talked very nicely
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: about the team and how those guys are his brothers
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: and they've really supported him. So I think as an organization,
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: it just you realize in those moments that you know,
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: there's a lot of things bigger than hockey, and we
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: play a game and you know it's we make it
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: high stakes, and but you know, amazing to see what
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: he's been able to do this season, and especially last night,
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: I mean, he was He's been so fun to watch.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: I watch a lot of their games.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: You know, they're they play an exciting brand of hockey,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: but he's kind of found another level that I think
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: we've all thought he could get to and we're wondering
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: when he was going to get there. Is like the
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: elite top five NHL defenseman, and you were seeing it
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: like he's he's he's playing some amazing hockey, and you know,
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: just thoughts go out to his family and to his wife,
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: and you know, I'm sure they're going to have a beautiful,
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: big family in years to come, and they're going to
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: be all good, so well.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Said, let's send us some flowers.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: Evan Bouchard four hundred regular season game, just the fourth
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: defense when the history has scored three goals and three assists.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Only others to do it Bobby Orr, Tom Blaydon and
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Doug Crossman. Shock that Crossman did that, by the way,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: achieving that feat. He did it with the Lightning in
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two in just the sixteenth game in Francise history.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Good research at the tell Bouchard's achievement so impressive. Connor
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: McDavid five point game, including the overtime winner against Washington.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Nobody even cared.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Matias ACoM got three goals at the game on Amazon
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Prime in Canada Monday night against the Ducks, first time
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: in NHL history that team has had defenseman score hat
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: tricks and consecutive games. You always talk with mc even
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: in drystyle, but this Edmonton defense, Chris Knablocks got these
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: guys fired up, joining the rush, scoring taking shots.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Unbelievable.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: And Bouchard gets shit on so much by people because
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: his defense. No block told me he goes. It's been
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: two months, he goes. Since December onet he's given up
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: one turnover which led to a goal because everyone has
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: to crush this guy. How about he is defensively but
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: that is not the case, and we have evidence on
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: this for two months now. He hasn't done it an offensive.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: He's a one a game player and he's not representing
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Team Canada. Unbelievable.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Yeah, the Team Canada picks some defense are starting to
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: look there's some guys that were left off. I mean
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: Chickering and Bouchard for one. You know they're playing a
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: lot better than the other guys, but you know, familiarity
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: seems to work with Team Canada. Once you're in the club,
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: you're in the club. But Bouchard's story arc every season
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: is the best. He starts the season got awful, everybody
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: hates him, says he's overpaid. Then here's this weird little lull,
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden, he goes in a
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: fucking heater. Yeah, and like has more points than God
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: and gets to the playoffs. They'll probably make it to
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: the finals, and then he'll make it turnover and everybody's
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: gonna say he's overpaid again, and then we restart the
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: story again. But it's every season he's the most talked
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: about defenseman, Like he's one of the more, if not
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: the most polarizing defenseman in the NHL.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: And you think that's for a combination of things.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: One, it's that he makes a lot of money, he
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: plays in a big market, and because even his game
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: is polarizing.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: As you said, he himself is streaky.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: So if you're streaking, you get paid a lot of money,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: and you're in a big market, then naturally people are
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: going to coming at you.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Yeah, he's but he's here.
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: He's no heartbeat in a good way, like he's able
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: to let that roll off his back. He takes a
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: lot of shit, man, and he just keeps on ticking.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Bouche bomps, getting it done.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Thanks so much for checking in andhallan Scripted thanks to
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: JD in town of course Nate Thompson, our special guest
