- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, I'm Mike McCurray.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for joining me for this the last day of a week abroad casting here on Bible Tract Echoes.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I greatly appreciate your investment of time.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna ask you if you would grab your Bibles.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: Go to the book of Mark Chapter 16, a Mark 16 and verse 15.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: As you very well could, probably quote it with me.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'll read it for you in just a moment, but I'd like you to think about something.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: as I read this verse aloud.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm thinking about Bible passages, especially whether be devotional or even just before preaching, I like to try to put myself in this situation.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not trying to create extra biblical concepts or applications, but I have found that for me one it helps keep me engaged, but also gives me a different perspective.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing I'd like to draw to your attention today, as I read Mark 16, 15, I'd like you to think about tone of voice, think about what I read this verse, and he said unto them, go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now you can just take those words as we will should and apply them to our lives but could you imagine with me the tone of voice Jesus used in speaking to His disciples?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: tone of voice is so important isn't it when you're talking to your wife or to your husband?
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: If you say, I love you.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: It probably isn't felt as much as it could be.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you say with the joking mannerism, or you say with a mock angry tone of voice, it means different things.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, think about the way I greet you.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, thank you for listening to Bible Trek Dekos.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurry, your host.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: What does that communicate?
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: A boredom, maybe a lack of disregard for the fact that people are investing their time to join me right here on the program, tone of voice.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: If I set it in an angry way.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for listening.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate it, exasperated.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: There are so many different things we can communicate with.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: the simple tone of our voice.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever thought about the tone of voice that Jesus spoke with?
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he could be commanding.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he was in Mark 6x15.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: But think about those times he was compassionate.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: The time as he was almost quiet.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: think about the woman taking the adultery.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: He kneels down and begins to write in the sand.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Some point he looks up like he who is without sin.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Cast the first stone.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if it was almost just kind of like an off-hundred-a-mark, or if it was pointed at them, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: And as I said, I'm not trying to create things in the Bible that aren't there, but I've got to think about Mark 1615 that he was not taxidatical.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: God, 100% God, 100% man, commanding yes, but also compassionate, compassionate on all those that
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: What a command, what a commitment, what an opportunity.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: But how seriously do you and I take this command?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine Jesus were sitting in the room with us.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: How would he say it to you?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Would he be annoyed at the fact that you've been ignoring this commission for most of your Christian life?
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Would he be a little bit just well?
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, maybe my Christian, this person that calls me Lord, someone that calls me Christ.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they'll listen if I tell him personally.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: I would hate to make God exasperated with me.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: In so as we look at this great commission today, I wonder how do you relate to it?
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how you read the tone of voice in this verse.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: But I do see a commission.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: I do see a command.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: I see here in this verse of this scope.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: A friend of mine gave this outline not long ago, and I was an admissions conference and talked about how in Mark 1615, we see the scope of the commission.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: In John 20, 21, we see the sender.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: So sendi, you Matthew 28, 19, we see strategy.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: and look at 24, we see this subject in an X-18, we see the spirit of the commission.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: And we're okay to dive in this entire outline, I'm just kind of giving that to you, in case you want to do a study of it yourself at some point, but I'd like to ask about your personal relationship.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, what it was like to have someone that you respected, look at you somewhat bothered, happy to ever hurt someone tell you, I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: What a punch in the gut that is.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: But what if that someone, what if that someone was the God of all eternity?
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: What if the final command he gave before leaving earth physically?
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: What if he was ignored by all those that professed their love, professed their devotion?
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know there are about 8 billion people on this planet.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: And you know that oral population is increasing almost a second by second, isn't that?
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: But you also know that people are dying, people are going to a devil's hell.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: And yet what do we do?
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: How do we reach them?
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: You think, but Amika, are you encouraging me, are you gilting me into giving up my job and learning a different language?
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: Learn a new culture, no friend.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm asking you to reach people right where you are.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: I realize today I am a little more slow of speech, a little more measured, I'm truly thinking about each and every word and I'm thinking about myself and how poor of a job I do with this very issue.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder at the people that I have allowed to pass by me.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder at those that I come in contact with.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder at those that come by the Bible tracks building those who just establishments I frequent.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I wonder
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: would my lack of passion, would my lack of drive, would my lack of discipline, in fulfilling his last command, would I be able to handle the sadness in his eyes?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I realize,
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Many of you listen to this program, depending on where you are a geographically, in the evening, some of the midday, some in the morning, and you would have ample reason to say, Mike, this is a bit heavy.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: You're coming out this a little bit self-reflective.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: You're coming out this.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: You're making us think.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if that's the case, then so be it, but I'm making myself think, or something about speaking and having these headphones on when you can hear yourself speak, and when I realize that dozens hundreds thousands of my closest friends are listening in as I reflect, I wonder
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: could I do more?
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: And the answer immediately.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Not even worth thinking about.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: Is yes.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I wonder if I would have preached a little more strongly.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't mean to be a jerk, but I would have preached with a little bit more conviction.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: More eagerly begging God for his power.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder what I below reach more in the answer again is, yes, I wonder if I spent more time with God, both in prayer and in reading his good book, how would my relates should be, would it be better, the answer is, yes.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: When's the last time you pondered the great commission?
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if potentially today in this weekend we could give some thought to this very thing, this item instead of being just another
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: piece of the to-do list.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Something that's been shuffled back to the back page, something that we truly don't give any time to.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if today and this weekend we could all hit the reset button.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: I had a war inside of me in bringing this thought of evangelism because
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: why speak about a preacher about it, and yes, to agree attempt to live it, I am so far from perfect.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: And never will be.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: Part of me wanted to gloss over it, give you platitudes and
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: but the other half said be real.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's such a buzzword to be authentic, but truly to share my heart with you.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: Now I hope I've done that today in a way that would cause you to say, you know, there's someone I could reach.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: There's someone I could touch for the cause of the gospel.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: My prayer is always, is that you have a great day for His glory.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: We'll plan on talking to you soon.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: God bless.
