- 0:00Speaker 1: Or why would they not just bag that last night
- 0:01Speaker 1: and say well double header, or the team's just so
- 0:03Speaker 1: adverse to double headers now they just won't do that.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think part of the problem is the first
- 0:09Speaker 2: first part is when you only come to one place once,
- 0:12Speaker 2: there's that, it really puts some pressure on Okay, we
- 0:15Speaker 2: got to get these games in because if you're the Mariners,
- 0:18Speaker 2: for example, you don't want to burn an off day
- 0:20Speaker 2: coming back to Minneapolis on another random trip because Mariner
- 0:23Speaker 2: is about to do that in the past, and that's
- 0:25Speaker 2: pretty rough. He duck into a city one time and
- 0:27Speaker 2: then go on after that somewhere else on the East
- 0:31Speaker 2: coast or whatever. So there's that thing. And at the
- 0:34Speaker 2: time last night, it was unclear what the weather was
- 0:37Speaker 2: really going to be the next couple of days, so
- 0:39Speaker 2: there was that too. There was no guarantee that a
- 0:43Speaker 2: double header would work the next day. So when you're
- 0:46Speaker 2: in that situation, if you can get through it, you
- 0:48Speaker 2: just kind of try and get through it. I mean,
- 0:50Speaker 2: it's not ideal. Certainly those were not ideal conditions obviously,
- 0:54Speaker 2: but the game did get in, so that that is
- 0:58Speaker 2: one thing, and it avoids coming back, which is I
- 1:01Speaker 2: think the most important thing is just from a competitive standpoint.
- 1:04Speaker 3: From the Mariner's perspective.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Well, let's start with the good Gary Gary Hill Junior
- 1:08Speaker 1: joining us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline from Minneapolis, where
- 1:10Speaker 1: the Mariners and Twins will have the second of a
- 1:12Speaker 1: three game series this afternoon. For forty first pitch logan
- 1:14Speaker 1: Gilbert starts for the ms cayl Rawley Now four home
- 1:18Speaker 1: runs last six games, seven home runs in the seasons,
- 1:21Speaker 1: all of the four of them coming in the last week.
- 1:24Speaker 1: He's on base, he's hitting into the opposite field of time.
- 1:26Speaker 1: He had a home run at the home yard at Soto,
- 1:29Speaker 1: the opposite field. I think it was the first time
- 1:31Speaker 1: ever he's hit under the opposite field. What are you
- 1:34Speaker 1: seeing and how more importantly is this? Do you think
- 1:37Speaker 1: like the psyche of the team and all uplifting that
- 1:39Speaker 1: their guy who had sixty last year is starting to
- 1:42Speaker 1: get gone?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it changes everything. He's the middle of everything for
- 1:47Speaker 2: the Mariners, especially.
- 1:48Speaker 3: With his power bat. And you make a great point.
- 1:51Speaker 2: His last dozen games he's been cal You know, he's
- 1:54Speaker 2: got five home runs, he's batting nearly three hundred, he's
- 1:57Speaker 2: on base a ton three to seventy on base at
- 2:00Speaker 2: some point. The overall numbers don't look great because of
- 2:03Speaker 2: the slow start. At some point those numbers will catch up,
- 2:06Speaker 2: but he is a critical bat to what the Mariners
- 2:09Speaker 2: want to do. And the thing for me, when you
- 2:12Speaker 2: look at the start of the season and the struggles
- 2:14Speaker 2: for the offense, the biggest part of that was they
- 2:17Speaker 2: just weren't slugging. They were near the bottom of baseball
- 2:20Speaker 2: and slugging percentage. And it's really hard in the modern
- 2:23Speaker 2: game to put up runs and win games if you're
- 2:27Speaker 2: not mixing in doubles and hitting home runs. It's just
- 2:29Speaker 2: the pitching is too good to trending string together a
- 2:32Speaker 2: ton of singles in an inning enough to put enough
- 2:35Speaker 2: runs on the board to win games. So you've got
- 2:37Speaker 2: to slug and with the middle of the order to
- 2:40Speaker 2: start the season.
- 2:40Speaker 3: They just weren't doing it. The good thing for the.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Mariners is Calason track. He is slugging, which is great,
- 2:46Speaker 2: and you've seen the difference in them scoring runs. And
- 2:48Speaker 2: Naylor is in a great spot as well. And again
- 2:50Speaker 2: I think the overall numbers will catch up at some point,
- 2:53Speaker 2: but he's been in a good groove as well. Julio
- 2:56Speaker 2: has been pretty good. We haven't seen a ton of
- 2:57Speaker 2: slug except for the massive home run in Saint Louis,
- 2:59Speaker 2: but this kind.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Of is the way he trends up.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Generally, we see a bunch of hits and then the
- 3:05Speaker 2: power come, so I would expect that to come at
- 3:07Speaker 2: some point. So I think the lineup is in a
- 3:10Speaker 2: much better place right now than they were at the
- 3:13Speaker 2: beginning of the season, And to me, it starts with
- 3:15Speaker 2: cal Rawly and the fact that he's in a good
- 3:17Speaker 2: spot is great for the Mariners.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Greg briefly mentioned this to start of the show in
- 3:21Speaker 4: Louis Castile, but how will Is would you say the
- 3:25Speaker 4: pressure is mounting on Castilla right now, especially with Bryce
- 3:29Speaker 4: Miller trending twitter return, and how we had a point
- 3:31Speaker 4: where the Mariners have to consider potentially shaking things up.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It's a good question.
- 3:39Speaker 2: It's obviously going to be the question that's going to
- 3:41Speaker 2: be asked with Miller coming back, because hey, there's five
- 3:43Speaker 2: spots in the rotation right unless they do go to
- 3:46Speaker 2: a six man, which I think is a possibility at
- 3:49Speaker 2: some point, not necessarily right away, but I think that
- 3:52Speaker 2: is a possibility at some point this season because when
- 3:54Speaker 2: you think about the Mariners and their aspirations and playoff aspirations.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It didn't come up last because of the injuries, but
- 4:01Speaker 2: there is an innings conversation when you get to the
- 4:04Speaker 2: end of the season and if you play a month
- 4:06Speaker 2: longer than the regular season because of the injuries to
- 4:09Speaker 2: Gilbert and Kirby. That was never a conversation last year,
- 4:12Speaker 2: but it may be this year. So a six man
- 4:15Speaker 2: may be an option. Yeah, it's a concern. It's really hard.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Last night, it was such a miserable night, and his
- 4:22Speaker 2: velocity was down, which I think is a red flag.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But it was such a such a hard night to
- 4:27Speaker 2: pitch in. It's hard for me to judge on that
- 4:29Speaker 2: one night. But you know he's been hit hard three
- 4:32Speaker 2: different times this season.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Now.
- 4:34Speaker 2: He was really consistent last year as a pitcher. He
- 4:37Speaker 2: gave the Mariners a ton of innings. He took the
- 4:40Speaker 2: ball every five days. He was very effective.
- 4:43Speaker 1: This year.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You look at us first start against the Yankees. He
- 4:45Speaker 2: blanked him for six innings.
- 4:47Speaker 3: So it's there.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But he's just looked off a couple times this year.
- 4:51Speaker 2: You know, he's not getting the swing miss on a slider.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You see the v low down, So I think there
- 4:56Speaker 2: is a concern there, but I also think, hey, he's
- 5:00Speaker 2: earned the right to figure this thing out because of
- 5:03Speaker 2: his track record and when he's done, and I think
- 5:05Speaker 2: it's important for the Mariners for him to figure it out.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I still think, you know, one of the questions we
- 5:10Speaker 2: had coming into the season was rotation death. Fortunately for
- 5:14Speaker 2: the Mariners, Hancock has stepped in and he's been great
- 5:17Speaker 2: Beyond these kind of when Miller comes back. Beyond that,
- 5:21Speaker 2: there still is not a ton of depth. You know,
- 5:23Speaker 2: we've all watched Kate Anderson from a far pitch really well,
- 5:27Speaker 2: but there's not a ton to go to if there's
- 5:29Speaker 2: a couple of injuries. So I think it is important
- 5:32Speaker 2: for Castile to figure this thing out. And I don't
- 5:35Speaker 2: think we're asking him to be the guy he was
- 5:37Speaker 2: when he was first here. You know that that was
- 5:39Speaker 2: the guy throwing one hundred miles per hour throwing rockets.
- 5:42Speaker 2: If you're asking for him now to hey, go five
- 5:45Speaker 2: to six, keep in a ballgame, and the offense score
- 5:49Speaker 2: some runs and win a games that didn't happen last night.
- 5:52Speaker 2: That's a frustrating part, but that's I think what you're
- 5:54Speaker 2: asking from him.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Manners Brodcaster Gary Hill Junior kind of have to join
- 5:58Speaker 1: us on a preparation afternoon before they play Game two
- 6:02Speaker 1: of the series Mariners twins in Minneapolis for forty first
- 6:05Speaker 1: pitch where he says the weather it's clear but cold,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but no rain like last night's miserable conditions. Gary, A
- 6:12Speaker 1: lot of people the Casey legomena coming in a tie
- 6:14Speaker 1: game in the eighth inning right before you got DFAD.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Fans are what the hell is Casey Liguman doing? And
- 6:20Speaker 1: can you explain from the team's perspective, and you being
- 6:24Speaker 1: there every day, especially early in the season, these unwritten
- 6:28Speaker 1: or maybe written rules about bullpen use and not back
- 6:32Speaker 1: to back days and not starting or not finishing anything
- 6:35Speaker 1: and having to start in anything the new and if
- 6:37Speaker 1: it ending is just eight pitches, they don't want to
- 6:39Speaker 1: even get back up and come back out again. Can you,
- 6:41Speaker 1: just from a macro level, explain how the Mariners approach
- 6:44Speaker 1: their bullpen Probably analytics driven, especially early in the season.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of it is helf driven, and a
- 6:51Speaker 2: lot of it is big picture because when you look
- 6:54Speaker 2: at the especially the A side of the bull time,
- 6:56Speaker 2: when you're talking about the monias and brash and bizarre
- 6:58Speaker 2: to you know for inspire those guys. Mariners are careful
- 7:03Speaker 2: with those guys, especially early in the season. They're very
- 7:06Speaker 2: careful right out of the gates, even going back to back,
- 7:08Speaker 2: and especially three days in a row you see that
- 7:12Speaker 2: and three out of four days. There are certain things
- 7:15Speaker 2: they look for and they monitor because they are trying
- 7:18Speaker 2: to keep these guys healthy all season long and in
- 7:22Speaker 2: a season, does that put them in a bad spot
- 7:25Speaker 2: from time to time or to a spot that's not ideal, Yes,
- 7:29Speaker 2: especially when they get in runs where they're playing a
- 7:32Speaker 2: ton of close games right where it seems like they
- 7:35Speaker 2: have been in these situations where they're playing I don't know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: seven eight games in a row where it's a one
- 7:41Speaker 2: round game and they're down by one in the eighth inning.
- 7:44Speaker 2: You just can't go to the A side of the
- 7:47Speaker 2: bullpen every single day, even though would it be ideal
- 7:51Speaker 2: to go to a Bizarro in a spot.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I think the hardest thing for us watching a game
- 7:58Speaker 2: play out. It's a little more new nuance and saying
- 8:00Speaker 2: a guy is available or a guy is not available.
- 8:03Speaker 2: There's a lot of nuance in between. There's times when
- 8:07Speaker 2: a guy is available, but only in a safe situation.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Only if it helps us directly win a game, or
- 8:12Speaker 2: a guy is available for one lefty at the end
- 8:17Speaker 2: of an inning, and then that will be it, you
- 8:19Speaker 2: know that kind of thing. It's it's often more nuanced
- 8:22Speaker 2: than we realize because and they're very guarded with the
- 8:24Speaker 2: information for good reasons. It's a competitive advantage knowing if
- 8:29Speaker 2: your opposition has guys available or not. So they generally
- 8:32Speaker 2: don't talk about it before a game, or they never
- 8:34Speaker 2: talk about it before a game, and generally not after
- 8:37Speaker 2: a game either because they don't want to tip their
- 8:38Speaker 2: hand because the next day they play again. And so
- 8:42Speaker 2: even if a guy's dealing with something which happens too,
- 8:46Speaker 2: we often publicly never know about it because they don't
- 8:49Speaker 2: want the opposition to know about it as well. So
- 8:51Speaker 2: I always think there's a lot of things all the
- 8:54Speaker 2: surface that happened that at the time. And I did
- 8:58Speaker 2: this during a game too, I wonder like, oh, why
- 9:00Speaker 2: they went to him instead of pitcher X. And generally
- 9:04Speaker 2: there is a reason they spend a lot of Believe me,
- 9:06Speaker 2: they spend a lot of time.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Every single day before every single.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Game getting everyone together to talk about the state of
- 9:13Speaker 2: the bullpen. And we're talking about coaching staff, medical folks, analysts.
- 9:19Speaker 2: They talk all this thing through, they talk through scenarios,
- 9:22Speaker 2: they talk about who's available for what. There's a lot
- 9:25Speaker 2: of work that goes into it. So this isn't just
- 9:28Speaker 2: picking names out of a hat.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Believe me.
- 9:30Speaker 2: When you get the late ending situations, there is some thought,
- 9:34Speaker 2: but especially early in the season, the overriding goal is
- 9:38Speaker 2: to keep their guys healthy. And you know, Saint Louis
- 9:41Speaker 2: is a perfect example. And I'm not trying to call
- 9:43Speaker 2: an organization out, but you know, watching their closer Riley
- 9:46Speaker 2: O'Brien in April throw thirty nine pitches, that's a ton
- 9:52Speaker 2: for your guy who's been your best reliever on a staff,
- 9:55Speaker 2: And that's just not a position generally where you'd see
- 9:58Speaker 2: the Mariners put a guy in, which I think is
- 10:00Speaker 2: a good thing.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Right. Longer term, bigger, bigger play they playing, Yeah, big picture, yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Gariel Junior from Minneapolis Mariners broadcaster here in ninety three
- 10:08Speaker 1: point three KJRFM Gary. Have the Mariners reached a point
- 10:12Speaker 1: where Jose Ferrer is becoming one of the trusted high
- 10:17Speaker 1: leverage arms for this team, especially given his ability to
- 10:20Speaker 1: go multiple innings. And now you seem to close games.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It feels that way.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Those two back to back days in Saint Louis were
- 10:29Speaker 2: great days for him. They needed those two scoreless innings
- 10:35Speaker 2: the first day he pitched in Saint Louis and then
- 10:38Speaker 2: you know, to close it out after going two innings
- 10:40Speaker 2: the day before. That was really impressive stuff. And he's
- 10:43Speaker 2: been there before. He was the closer part time for
- 10:45Speaker 2: the Nationals last year at the end of the season.
- 10:47Speaker 2: So he I just especially from the left side, with
- 10:51Speaker 2: his stuff. The fact that he can give you multiples
- 10:54Speaker 2: and pitch back to back to have a versatile guy
- 10:56Speaker 2: like that, I think is enormous, and I think he
- 11:00Speaker 2: really is working his way into the circle of trust.
- 11:04Speaker 2: He has some traits that you really like a left
- 11:07Speaker 2: handed being. One, he throws a really heavy two scene
- 11:11Speaker 2: with good stuff so he can get some ground balls.
- 11:13Speaker 3: His ground ball.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Rate isn't high so far this year, but he's a
- 11:16Speaker 2: kind of guy in traffic that that's really handy. You
- 11:19Speaker 2: can get a double play if you need it. And
- 11:22Speaker 2: they want to develop some more swing and miss too,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and if he does, he's got the makings to be
- 11:28Speaker 2: an elite reliever. And I think we've seen some flashes
- 11:32Speaker 2: of that so far. I think he had some bad
- 11:33Speaker 2: luck early, you know, a lot of ground balls that
- 11:35Speaker 2: got through. But I think you're right to spotlight him
- 11:37Speaker 2: because I.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Think he can be a big part of this moving forward.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Gary. A lot of people see the eight year, ninety
- 11:44Speaker 1: five million dollar contract they give cold Emerson and they're like, WHOA, Well,
- 11:49Speaker 1: how long is he going to stay in a ver
- 11:50Speaker 1: near his uniform and come up to the bigs. He
- 11:52Speaker 1: just got back off of a little bit of a
- 11:54Speaker 1: risk issue. He's playing again this week for Tacoma. From
- 11:58Speaker 1: your sense of being around the team every day, is
- 12:00Speaker 1: it just a matter of time till he comes up?
- 12:02Speaker 1: Or is this still gonna go to long play this
- 12:03Speaker 1: a little bit?
- 12:06Speaker 2: I think I think he will come up at some point,
- 12:08Speaker 2: But I don't think they feel pressure to bring him
- 12:12Speaker 2: up now because of the contract. I think they really
- 12:14Speaker 2: want to wait till they feel like he's ready to
- 12:16Speaker 2: come up, and maybe at some point they'll be a
- 12:18Speaker 2: natural injury or something like that that makes it obvious
- 12:22Speaker 2: the spot for him to come up. But I think
- 12:24Speaker 2: that's important too, is making sure a guy is ready
- 12:27Speaker 2: before he comes up, and being healthy is certainly a
- 12:30Speaker 2: part of that, Like, you don't want to if he's
- 12:32Speaker 2: not one hundred percent, you know, dealing with a risk thing.
- 12:34Speaker 2: You don't want him coming up and trying to deal
- 12:36Speaker 2: with major league pitching that sort of thing. So I
- 12:38Speaker 2: do think, I do think he will be up at
- 12:41Speaker 2: some point this year. I don't think there's any question
- 12:45Speaker 2: about that.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And how's Brandon Donovan doing. Has been any word day
- 12:48Speaker 1: to day on with his status is in returning there's
- 12:51Speaker 1: a good question.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Not on the trip, so we haven't gotten updates. I
- 12:54Speaker 2: really felt bad for him. We got asked a ton
- 12:57Speaker 2: when we were in Saint Louis because he really is
- 12:59Speaker 2: a fan favorite in Saint Louis and they were really
- 13:02Speaker 2: excited to show him a lot of love there and
- 13:05Speaker 2: the standing ovations and everything else. I just I feel
- 13:07Speaker 2: awful about the timing of this thing because it would
- 13:10Speaker 2: have been a really fun scene and he's been missed.
- 13:13Speaker 2: You know that his bat at the top of the lineup,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and you know, the first couple of weeks, I think
- 13:17Speaker 2: we all saw what that can mean him at the top,
- 13:21Speaker 2: and unfortunately, you know, while he was cooking, the middle
- 13:24Speaker 2: of the lineup was struggling. So I feel like we
- 13:27Speaker 2: really haven't seen the offense yet together, you know, with
- 13:31Speaker 2: Donovan at the top, and what that looks like with
- 13:34Speaker 2: cal swinging the way he is now, with Naylor going
- 13:37Speaker 2: with the way he is, because I feel like that
- 13:39Speaker 2: top of the order when they're going has a chance
- 13:42Speaker 2: to be super dynamic. We just unfortunately because of circumstances,
- 13:47Speaker 2: we really haven't seen that yet. So it sounds like
- 13:52Speaker 2: from the beginning that it wasn't going to be a
- 13:54Speaker 2: long stint.
- 13:55Speaker 3: So hopefully we'll see him sooner rather than later.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Garry, you've been around a team a day or two,
- 14:00Speaker 1: and can you tell us how it feels this year
- 14:04Speaker 1: versus last, now that they've been to the ALCS and
- 14:07Speaker 1: within eight out of the World Series, and whether there's
- 14:11Speaker 1: just this quiet confidence in my sense of being around
- 14:14Speaker 1: the team that first home stand there's a different level
- 14:17Speaker 1: of confidence. Yes, the expectations are higher, Yes the standards
- 14:20Speaker 1: are higher, but it just feels like we've done this before,
- 14:23Speaker 1: we can do we know this roster can do this.
- 14:25Speaker 1: How does that translate day to day? Is there a
- 14:27Speaker 1: tangible effect on the fielder in the clubhous to them
- 14:30Speaker 1: getting as far as they did last year and so.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Close I think so, because there's a team confidence and
- 14:36Speaker 2: I feel like the great example is the start of
- 14:38Speaker 2: the season, I think because while they are frustrated about
- 14:43Speaker 2: the start, or we're frustrated, I.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Think they're certainly playing better now.
- 14:46Speaker 2: But while they were frustrated by the start of the season,
- 14:50Speaker 2: I think they were confident in themselves and knowing that
- 14:53Speaker 2: they are a good team and they are going to
- 14:55Speaker 2: turn this around and do all the things that they're
- 14:59Speaker 2: expected to do. Hit and score rounds and pitch grade
- 15:02Speaker 2: and all of those sorts of things. So I think
- 15:04Speaker 2: that is kind of what you're alluding to, because you know,
- 15:07Speaker 2: one of the things that really stood out to me,
- 15:10Speaker 2: and this was across the board, whether you're talking to
- 15:13Speaker 2: front office or coaching staff, or players or fans or broadcasters.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I think everyone was in the same both.
- 15:22Speaker 2: In Mariner's history, where expectations have ever been as high
- 15:26Speaker 2: going into a season, and the players, yeah, and the
- 15:29Speaker 2: players were not shy about World Series winning at all,
- 15:34Speaker 2: And those.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Are yeah, as you know you've been around forever.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Too, those are the things that you just didn't hear
- 15:40Speaker 2: or were said openly, and they're said openly all the time.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And I think for me, What that means kind of
- 15:46Speaker 2: day to day is just the confidence knowing that, hey,
- 15:50Speaker 2: we're gonna hit tough times because it's a baseball season,
- 15:52Speaker 2: but we're gonna be fine at the end of the
- 15:54Speaker 2: day because we've been there, and you kind of look now,
- 15:57Speaker 2: you look at their roster and you know, while they're
- 16:01Speaker 2: still have young players on the roster, man, you look
- 16:04Speaker 2: at it now with cal and you know the core
- 16:07Speaker 2: of it with Kirby and Gilbert and all these guys.
- 16:09Speaker 2: They've been there, They've won a ton of games, they've
- 16:11Speaker 2: been to the postseason, they've made runs, and I think
- 16:14Speaker 2: that makes a difference trying to get back.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Not to mention, nobody's going anywhere ahead of them in
- 16:18Speaker 1: the America League West.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Huh.
- 16:23Speaker 2: That is is a great point, because I think context
- 16:27Speaker 2: is really important when you talk about starts at the season.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Especially.
- 16:30Speaker 2: No one is running away with anything in the West.
- 16:33Speaker 2: And I don't know about you, nothing I've seen in
- 16:36Speaker 2: the West has changed my mind about where the Mariners fit.
- 16:39Speaker 2: In fact, I might think the other way of the
- 16:41Speaker 2: Houston Astros given their pitching situation, Like I think they
- 16:44Speaker 2: actually have some real fundamental problems that will keep them
- 16:49Speaker 2: away from contending of the top. We'll see how it
- 16:51Speaker 2: plays out with still only a month. But I think
- 16:55Speaker 2: when I watch the Mariners play and the Astros play,
- 16:58Speaker 2: or the Blue Jays, for example, it was a big difference.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I think the Mariners were a team with really good
- 17:02Speaker 2: players that weren't playing well. I think the Astros they
- 17:06Speaker 2: had injuries, missing guys, and you kind of forecast it out.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It's like, where is this pitching gonna come from?
- 17:12Speaker 1: Right?
- 17:13Speaker 2: If Hunter Brown doesn't come back soon, how is this
- 17:15Speaker 2: going to happen? And you can say that about the
- 17:16Speaker 2: Blue Jays. So that's how I saw the difference, I
- 17:19Speaker 2: guess between the Mariners and some of the other slow starts.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Last one for me, Gary is how would you how
- 17:25Speaker 4: do you think the Mariners organization balances.
- 17:29Speaker 1: The pressure?
- 17:31Speaker 4: Actually, I would just say balance is the over the
- 17:33Speaker 4: season versus the urgency to compete in this tough division.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I'm sorry I lost to him the first part of that.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Keep say that again.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Ohyeah, no, worries.
- 17:43Speaker 4: I was just curious, how do you think this organization
- 17:45Speaker 4: balances patients this early in the season versus urgency to
- 17:50Speaker 4: compete in division that looks like it's gonna be tight.
- 17:53Speaker 2: That's that's a great question because I think that is
- 17:57Speaker 2: the most difficult part for teams with really high expectations,
- 18:02Speaker 2: and it's patients not only with young players but also
- 18:06Speaker 2: from veterans, like when do you go in a different
- 18:09Speaker 2: direction if a veteran is struggling, When do you go
- 18:13Speaker 2: in a different direction if a young player is struggling.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And I think that is the hardest part because at
- 18:18Speaker 2: the end of the day, you want to win and
- 18:21Speaker 2: you're trying to and the Mariners, for you know, their
- 18:23Speaker 2: goal is the ultimate goal. You're trying to win the division,
- 18:25Speaker 2: and you're trying to get the postseason, you're trying to
- 18:28Speaker 2: win it all. You're trying to do all those things
- 18:30Speaker 2: at the same time. It is important that you develop
- 18:34Speaker 2: the future. Like Cole Young is a great example, Like
- 18:37Speaker 2: you have to let Cole Young play and have the
- 18:40Speaker 2: ups and downs get better because as we've seen, he's
- 18:44Speaker 2: got the talent I think to be a really good
- 18:46Speaker 2: player in Major League Baseball, and he's going to have
- 18:48Speaker 2: ups and downs as a young player. So you have
- 18:51Speaker 2: to allow the patience for that. And same thing with
- 18:53Speaker 2: Cole Emerson when he comes up, he's going to have
- 18:56Speaker 2: ups and downs. He's not going to be an All
- 18:57Speaker 2: Star out of the gates. I think the important thing,
- 19:00Speaker 2: especially with young players is they don't have to carry
- 19:04Speaker 2: the load.
- 19:05Speaker 3: There's a reason.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Why Cole Young is batting towards the bottom of the lineup.
- 19:09Speaker 3: He can just bat there, do his thing.
- 19:11Speaker 2: You just hope for contributions from Cole Young and cold
- 19:15Speaker 2: Emerson and that sort of thing, because you're asking your
- 19:18Speaker 2: guy to your veterans to carry the load. And I
- 19:21Speaker 2: think that's the important thing when you talk about patients,
- 19:25Speaker 2: is you're asking cal and Naylor and Julio and those
- 19:29Speaker 2: guys that carry the load, and just young players do
- 19:32Speaker 2: their thing knowing they're going to have ups and downs
- 19:34Speaker 2: and just contribute. So that's how I kind of think
- 19:37Speaker 2: about it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Gary Hill, Junior, Mariner's Broadcast. It's always great to talk
- 19:41Speaker 1: to you, sir. I appreciate it. We'll catch everything against him,
- 19:44Speaker 1: have a good trip back here in a couple of days.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Absolutely can't wait to get back.
- 19:48Speaker 3: It's gonna be a fun weekend.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yes, sir, Randy Johnson celebration weekend. Thank you Gary from Minnesota.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Gary Hill, Junior, the Mariners broadcast team Mariners taking on
- 19:56Speaker 1: the Twins second game of three game series. After they
- 19:58Speaker 1: lost last night, they played Game two. Logan Gilbert on

- 20:29Speaker 1: Your reaction to what Gary Hill Junior says about the
- 20:31Speaker 1: Mariners and we got this. That's what he said, basically
- 20:34Speaker 1: in so many words, they said, Yeah, we got this.

- 20:46Speaker 1: three kJ R f M. We're talking about how the
- 20:50Speaker 1: aos with Gary Hill Junior in the last segment about
- 20:52Speaker 1: how the aos isn't going anywhere. The first place team
- 20:55Speaker 1: with the Athletics at fifteen and thirteen, the only two
- 20:58Speaker 1: games ahead of the Mariners at fourteen and six, two
- 21:01Speaker 1: games over five hundred, is first place right now in
- 21:03Speaker 1: that division, and he mentioned Houston and their problems are
- 21:05Speaker 1: eleven and eighteen at the bottom of the division with
- 21:07Speaker 1: all the pitching issues they have. So yeah, I think
- 21:11Speaker 1: Chris and I have talked about Chris one winning streak
- 21:14Speaker 1: of five plus games, and they're in first place.
- 21:16Speaker 4: And I think they are more than capable. And I
- 21:18Speaker 4: would bet some money that that's going to happen soon
- 21:21Speaker 4: me too, because I think they're starting to turn things around.
- 21:24Speaker 4: And I'm very confident that come July we'll be talking
- 21:28Speaker 4: about a team that is twelve to fifteen games over five.
- 21:32Speaker 4: There we go, and it's playing really good baseball. So
- 21:35Speaker 4: called a hot tape called me crazy. I'm on a
- 21:39Speaker 4: limb there. Maybe I'm not on a limb. Maybe there
- 21:41Speaker 4: are people that agree with me there. So we'll wait
- 21:43Speaker 4: and see. We're only what basically two months out from that,
- 21:46Speaker 4: so it's coming.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Yeah. I think you're right, Chris. I think it's That's
- 21:50Speaker 1: why I said, if this is like this in August, Okay,
- 21:53Speaker 1: then then you got man yeah, time to pack them up. Hey,
- 21:56Speaker 1: how's how's training campaign? That's when people started asking when
- 21:59Speaker 1: the season season? Football season? You know what time it
- 22:02Speaker 1: is when you hear the music, it's not Bookie Knights
- 22:04Speaker 1: in the radio, it's your chance to be a part
- 22:06Speaker 1: of the show. To come a dodge text line four nine,
- 22:08Speaker 1: four to five one from the four towo five.
- 22:11Speaker 4: No way to know if the West is mediocre until
- 22:15Speaker 4: there are more games out of division. In Saint Louis's
- 22:18Speaker 4: four games over five hundred MS swept him. So yeah,
- 22:22Speaker 4: that's right.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Up.
- 22:23Speaker 1: They haven't played many divisions. Well, they played Texas twice,
- 22:26Speaker 1: they played Houston, they played the Athletics once at home.
- 22:30Speaker 1: They've had a few, they played the Angels, they played
- 22:34Speaker 1: every team in the division so far. That's true that day. Yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you're right, we had still small sample size exactly. Yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 1: thanks four, thanks for listening. From the two six.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Do you think the seahawks inability to move down in
- 22:47Speaker 4: the draft and early rounds has something to do with
- 22:49Speaker 4: them being a Super Bowl champ? Other teams don't want
- 22:52Speaker 4: to give them any more of an edge than they
- 22:55Speaker 4: already have.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Absolutely, absolutely, that's part of it and also part of
- 23:01Speaker 1: it is John Schneider's reputation precedes him, and he trades down.
- 23:06Speaker 1: He gets more picks, and he still hits on drafts
- 23:08Speaker 1: and the recent draft last year, and Nick even worry.
- 23:11Speaker 1: And now they traded up to get it. They've traded
- 23:13Speaker 1: up seventeen spots and get even worried. A rarity in
- 23:16Speaker 1: the second round. But teams are leg going why did
- 23:19Speaker 1: we trade with? Why did anyone trade with Seattle so
- 23:22Speaker 1: they could get Nick even Warri? Why did we do that?
- 23:24Speaker 1: So yeah, I think I absolutely think that's some of it.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Mc snyder was complaining about it all weekend. He complained
- 23:31Speaker 1: about it during the first round. He played about it
- 23:33Speaker 1: to us after the first round Friday Thursday night, saying
- 23:35Speaker 1: nobody wanted to trade with us. They ran out of
- 23:37Speaker 1: team's trade because there's six right in front of him.
- 23:40Speaker 1: He complained about it again on Friday, he complained about
- 23:42Speaker 1: against Saturday. Yeah, nobody wanted to trade with until the
- 23:44Speaker 1: fifth or sixth round. Yeah, I think that's totally the
- 23:48Speaker 1: good point two six. Thank you.
- 23:50Speaker 4: This is from the four two five. Colte Emerson's contract
- 23:56Speaker 4: is effectively stating he's going to be a good defender
- 24:00Speaker 4: no matter what that's worth thirty MILLI year starting in
- 24:03Speaker 4: five years. No reason he's up this year at all,
- 24:06Speaker 4: unless you're getting tired of JP playing like a okay.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Playing with no arm.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Let'll just leave it at that, playing with no arm.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Well, the issue of then and the reason why he
- 24:18Speaker 1: brings up I don't know the JP Crawford unless you
- 24:21Speaker 1: want to start talking about putting Cole Young at shortstop
- 24:24Speaker 1: or Brandon Donovan at a shortstop Cold Emerson at shortstop
- 24:28Speaker 1: for that matter. But the issue now is second base.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Cole Young is playing really well and it's been hitting.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It was six for eleven in the weekend series in
- 24:36Speaker 1: Saint Louis. So you keep him at second, they'll mess
- 24:39Speaker 1: with what's not broken. The rookie's doing really well. Brandon
- 24:42Speaker 1: Donovan is on the injury list right now, coming back
- 24:45Speaker 1: probably in a week or so. Do you keep him
- 24:47Speaker 1: third base? Which is something of experiment. He didn't play
- 24:49Speaker 1: a lot of third base. Emerson has been playing primarily
- 24:52Speaker 1: third base at Triple A. He has played a little bit,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I mean a little bit at shortstop. But yeah, I
- 24:59Speaker 1: mean there is there's no rush now that you've signed him,
- 25:01Speaker 1: there's no he's under contract and you don't have to
- 25:04Speaker 1: worry about this contract tolling or counting this year when
- 25:07Speaker 1: you bring up by a certain date and all those
- 25:08Speaker 1: things that sometimes teams do. He's yours in eight years
- 25:12Speaker 1: and that I think I have a feeling, Chris, he's
- 25:15Speaker 1: going to be up probably before midsummer. By midsummer, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: then the question just becomes, where do you put him
- 25:22Speaker 1: every day? Because you don't bring him up to just
- 25:24Speaker 1: have him sit. He's not going to develop that. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 1: you got to give him, but he's gonna have to play.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So if Brendon Donovan is hitting as well as he is,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and do you keep him at third base? Becomes the
- 25:33Speaker 1: question to me, and I I'm not sure about that.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I don't sure you want to put cold Emerson at shortstop?
- 25:42Speaker 1: He plays JP Crawford. Is that what the I'm assuming
- 25:44Speaker 1: us what this implication is, But that question, I would
- 25:47Speaker 1: assume so too. I'm not sure that's what you want
- 25:49Speaker 1: to do with the guy. Maybe you do. He hasn't
- 25:52Speaker 1: played there every day in Tacoma though.
- 25:55Speaker 4: From the two five to three, tyle Katta is the
- 25:57Speaker 4: man until proven otherwise, I think so as well.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Well, yeah, he deserves the first shot I'm not sure
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's lock shot. It's certainly not as turnkey and lockdown
- 26:08Speaker 1: as it was the scene the day that Kobe Bryant
- 26:10Speaker 1: signed with the Bears in March. Again, they've signed Rodney Thomas,
- 26:15Speaker 1: former starter from the Colts. They re signed AJ Finley
- 26:17Speaker 1: and not Stan. Finley's poised to start, but he'll be
- 26:19Speaker 1: part of the competition. And now you sent a second
- 26:22Speaker 1: round pick. Second round picks you should get something from
- 26:25Speaker 1: I mean, Nick, even Warry was the second round pick.
- 26:29Speaker 1: You should get something out of your second round pick
- 26:31Speaker 1: other than just a development year. It's not a rich
- 26:33Speaker 1: shirt year. We're not talking six to seventh round pick.
- 26:36Speaker 1: So they drafted Bud Clark to play them, and I
- 26:40Speaker 1: listening to McDonald talk about him, I think he's going
- 26:43Speaker 1: to get a long run, and not that Ocatta won't.
- 26:45Speaker 1: But Ocatta also has huge value in special teams. And
- 26:48Speaker 1: you could say especially they had the best special teams
- 26:51Speaker 1: in the league last year, and that was a part
- 26:52Speaker 1: of the reason they won. You know, all the guys
- 26:54Speaker 1: that they almost all they re signed are for special teams.
- 26:57Speaker 1: The biggest money they spent in the offseason was a
- 27:00Speaker 1: nod to special teams. Rashid Shiheed. Yeah, I know he's
- 27:03Speaker 1: a wide receiver with fifty one million dollars because he
- 27:06Speaker 1: switched fields in games on his punt and kick returns.
- 27:10Speaker 1: The very first return of the opening kickoff of the
- 27:13Speaker 1: Divisional round game against San Francisco touchdown. They don't win.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I say this again. They don't win the second RAMS game.
- 27:20Speaker 1: They don't get the NFC West, they don't get the
- 27:22Speaker 1: home field advantage of number one seed. If Rashi Shihei
- 27:26Speaker 1: doesn't return that punt for a touchdown with nine minutes
- 27:28Speaker 1: left in the game down sixteen, they don't They don't score.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I don't see him scoring two touchdowns in less than
- 27:34Speaker 1: nine minutes. They scored the one eventually after the Rashid
- 27:38Speaker 1: touchdown the Tidle game. But if sh He doesn't return that,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I think they're on the road for the playoffs, a
- 27:43Speaker 1: wild card round, no bye, and they're playing the NFC
- 27:46Speaker 1: title game in Englewood. But Rashik Shiheed change that. So
- 27:49Speaker 1: the game of fifty one million dollars. So when I
- 27:51Speaker 1: say tyle Katta is a big factor in special teams,
- 27:54Speaker 1: that's not to dismiss him as not important to the team,
- 27:56Speaker 1: because special teams was a big reason they went to
- 27:58Speaker 1: the they and won the Super Bowl.
- 28:00Speaker 4: One for me and we were talking about staying active
- 28:02Speaker 4: and running and hiking and all those things that you
- 28:04Speaker 4: should do, but considering the weather is starting to get
- 28:06Speaker 4: warm out here in Seattle. This is from Craig out
- 28:08Speaker 4: of the two five to three on Fox Island. Here's
- 28:10Speaker 4: a crazy stat for you that blew my mind. Ninety
- 28:14Speaker 4: five percent of people over the age of thirty will
- 28:16Speaker 4: never sprint again for the rest of their life. That's creepy.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I don't is that true. I mean, anecdotally, I was
- 28:25Speaker 1: well sprinting. That's probably a sprint. Yeah. I haven't hit
- 28:29Speaker 1: mac speed because I'm quick.
- 28:31Speaker 4: But at the same time, it's like I probably could
- 28:33Speaker 4: sprint if I really wanted to. I might blow some
- 28:36Speaker 4: things off, like the hamstrings. But I haven't really I've been.
- 28:40Speaker 4: I've gone like maybe eighty five ninety I guess that
- 28:44Speaker 4: would be considered sprinting.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty good, so better at that doing well.
- 28:48Speaker 1: This is the point my wife would chime in, stretch, Yes, yes,
- 28:51Speaker 1: that is huge.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Like I try to stretch and I'm not doing good
- 28:55Speaker 4: at it, so I'm believe it. No, I tried Greg,
- 28:57Speaker 4: I haven't stretched in a while.
- 28:59Speaker 1: It's bad. He wants me to come to yoga a
- 29:01Speaker 1: lot with her. You should do it, Greg, to come
- 29:02Speaker 1: more than I do. I agree to yoga is.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Now that I think it back at think about Okay,
- 29:09Speaker 4: continue Greg Cool.
- 29:11Speaker 1: The two oh six said, Cale is a natural show
- 29:13Speaker 1: step Yes, Donovan the second cult, Emerson the third base,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and that means JP Crawford out. M kid.
- 29:23Speaker 4: I'm in the process of tweeting the Detroit Pistons temperature
- 29:26Speaker 4: or checking the temperature right now.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Let's just say it's hot. I think even herds.
- 29:31Speaker 4: Greg's sister complaining today laughing out loud Son show.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 4: For those that don't know, Jeff lives in Detroit and
- 29:38Speaker 4: he hit me up on Twitter yesterday talking. We're talking
- 29:40Speaker 4: about Detroit basketball and I'm like, I'm curious what the
- 29:43Speaker 4: temperature is over there in Detroit and he's like, you
- 29:45Speaker 4: know what, I'll let you know. I'll tune into the
- 29:47Speaker 4: sports really before I check into you guys. So he's
- 29:50Speaker 4: about to tweet me the update on Detroit Sports Radio
- 29:53Speaker 4: as they're down three to one to their Lando Magic.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Good job, Jeff, knowing that my sister lives and my
- 29:57Speaker 1: mom live in suburban Detroit, exactly. Fort No need to
- 30:02Speaker 1: bring up Colt need an actual shortstop or third basement
- 30:04Speaker 1: at the trade deadline to improve the infield defense. I'm
- 30:07Speaker 1: not sure they need to trade for another one because
- 30:08Speaker 1: then you have a backlog, right, unless you just want
- 30:12Speaker 1: to discard and cut JP Crawford all together. M I mean,
- 30:16Speaker 1: is that the implication? That's a whole other matter, all right?
- 30:20Speaker 4: Last one, last one for me, for real, for real
- 30:22Speaker 4: from Jason Run a Spartan race kid. You'll love it
- 30:25Speaker 4: if I was a grown you know, I hear a
- 30:27Speaker 4: Spartan kid. I don't know if that it's a good match.
- 30:29Speaker 4: I've seen that.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Like Ragnar or what is Spartan run? You do a
- 30:33Speaker 1: little bit of everything.
- 30:34Speaker 4: So you might carry like a log for a mile
- 30:37Speaker 4: and then you'll run for three miles. You might be
- 30:39Speaker 4: swimming the next mile, which you know, the stereotype is real.
- 30:42Speaker 4: A brother can't swim. Yeah, so Spartan raids are cool.
- 30:46Speaker 4: And one of my best friends did it, but it
- 30:48Speaker 4: looked like a grind.
- 30:51Speaker 1: And did they tell you ahead of time what you're
- 30:53Speaker 1: about to do? Springing on you?
- 30:55Speaker 4: Yeah, when you sign up for they give you a a,
- 30:57Speaker 4: it's a five mile course.
- 30:59Speaker 1: You'll do this here. We did some of that stuff
- 31:01Speaker 1: in the army. It was actually kind of fun. I'm sure. Yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 1: that's what I was also twenty two year, twenty three years.
- 31:06Speaker 4: Oh crazy, guys. If you gave Gregor hillmet he'd say,
- 31:09Speaker 4: who am I hitting?
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'm fifty five. Now I'm a little different than that
- 31:14Speaker 1: spot on. I was flipping around the channels. This is
- 31:16Speaker 1: from the two oh six slipping around the channels and
- 31:19Speaker 1: caught some Tampa Bay lightning at Montreal Canadians on Cbut
- 31:22Speaker 1: that's CBC out of Vancouver. And while I have zero
- 31:25Speaker 1: interest in who actually wins, the level of hockey, in
- 31:27Speaker 1: my goodness, that series has been shippy. It has three
- 31:30Speaker 1: of the four I think three of the four games
- 31:32Speaker 1: have gone to overtime unless the last one did two
- 31:34Speaker 1: I think about it. But that's been off the hook
- 31:37Speaker 1: and CBC and sports that have been all over it.
- 31:40Speaker 1: This is back to our original conversation that the Stanley
- 31:42Speaker 1: Cup playoffs are far superior to the NBA playoffs. Four
- 31:48Speaker 1: to five, Hawks beat the Rams because of special teams period.
- 31:51Speaker 1: That's not changing next season. The Rams haven't improved there now,
- 31:57Speaker 1: how good do you guys and gals on the text
- 31:59Speaker 1: line and listening and feel about the Rams draft not
- 32:02Speaker 1: getting them better toward beating the Seahawks. I mean with
- 32:05Speaker 1: that thirteenth pick, a layaway pick with the Ty Simpson
- 32:08Speaker 1: quarterback of the future, I would think Seahawk fans love
- 32:11Speaker 1: that that. Wow. Rams could have had a top receiver,
- 32:15Speaker 1: they could have had a top offensive lineman, they could
- 32:17Speaker 1: have reloaded for Stafford's last run, and they signed a
- 32:20Speaker 1: layaway pick a couple of years down the road. Guy,
- 32:23Speaker 1: if I'm a Seahawk fan with loving that the Rams
- 32:26Speaker 1: did not get better in the draft there not at
- 32:28Speaker 1: that pick anyway. Yeah, four two fives as we have
- 32:33Speaker 1: four second basement Toto six says glad to hear Chris Kidd. Well, yes, sir,
- 32:37Speaker 1: That's part of the reason that came back. I said,
- 32:40Speaker 1: if I come back, Chris Kidd comes back, not that
- 32:42Speaker 1: he physically ever left, but yeah, if I come back,
- 32:45Speaker 1: Chris Kidd comes back, that was part of the deal
- 32:48Speaker 1: for Nass. He's never left. He's up next the ninety
- 32:50Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM Welcome Back Friends music means that
- 33:08Speaker 1: Ian Farness is in the house too. Here before his
- 33:10Speaker 1: show starts twelve until three.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Well, how are you not bendy?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Yeah? You like that?
- 33:19Speaker 5: Huh scouts, Yeah, he's really bendy. He's got a lot
- 33:23Speaker 5: of bend He's got a lot of bends. Whatever. Yeah, bendy, bendy.
- 33:28Speaker 5: I'm not bendy, none of us.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Once you get to be Chris is learning, right.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Yeah, just all that stuff end bendy ends pretty quick
- 33:38Speaker 5: because what ends up happening? So yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 33:42Speaker 5: So what else going on?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Well, Seahawks mini camp and I think I'm gonna be
- 33:46Speaker 1: out there Friday, and apparently the rookies are coming in
- 33:50Speaker 1: starting Wednesday tomorrow.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, that's right here.
- 33:54Speaker 1: They didn't draft the edge rushers. Any concern to you,
- 33:57Speaker 1: They've got two signed as undrafted rookie free agents.
- 33:59Speaker 5: Well, I just I kind of keep going back to
- 34:01Speaker 5: thinking that they're going to.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Go.
- 34:05Speaker 5: I think the Fouler thing must be in the works, right.
- 34:10Speaker 5: I think that's why you don't go down the road
- 34:12Speaker 5: to draft and a guy that in the in the
- 34:14Speaker 5: draft that you think that that you can find that
- 34:17Speaker 5: you have a better option that's a veteran coming in.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I was told that might get announced this week.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Actually, yeah, it would make sense, right And boy, I'll
- 34:25Speaker 5: tell you right now if if they get that done
- 34:28Speaker 5: with what they did in the draft, I mean, I
- 34:32Speaker 5: don't think there's any I don't think there's any question.
- 34:35Speaker 5: And even if they don't, maybe, but let's just let's
- 34:38Speaker 5: assume they do the two best teams in the NFL,
- 34:40Speaker 5: or LA and Seattle Again.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Well, and let me talk about this a little bit
- 34:44Speaker 1: last segment. If you're a Seahawks fan, you're pretty excited
- 34:48Speaker 1: what the Rams did at the top of the draft.
- 34:50Speaker 5: Really excited. Yet when when they're when the Ty Simpson
- 34:55Speaker 5: pick was about to be made, I was sitting next
- 34:57Speaker 5: to Rob rang and we're looking at all guys available,
- 35:02Speaker 5: and really, to me, at the top of the list
- 35:04Speaker 5: was Rubin Bain Jr. Like you pair him with what
- 35:08Speaker 5: they already have on that D line with Fisk and verse,
- 35:11Speaker 5: that's terrifying. That's a problem, that's a terrifying thought. Or
- 35:15Speaker 5: like they they use the way that Sean McVay uses
- 35:19Speaker 5: his tight ends. I think I think Corbin mentioned they'll
- 35:24Speaker 5: probably go sixteen personnel at some point, since they got
- 35:26Speaker 5: like ten of them on the roster, But a lot
- 35:28Speaker 5: of them are just guys like really they're just kind
- 35:30Speaker 5: of dudes, like they're just but he makes them better.
- 35:33Speaker 5: But like Tyler Hagbey kills them all the time. And honestly,
- 35:36Speaker 5: he's not an all pro, no, but he kills the seas.
- 35:38Speaker 5: Of course, that's the one thing that Pete and Mike
- 35:42Speaker 5: McDonald have in common. And the tight ends killed that
- 35:44Speaker 5: organ But that aside. I mean, Kobe Parkinson is a
- 35:47Speaker 5: nice player, but he looks like an all pro in
- 35:49Speaker 5: that offense. What if they would add to Sadik out
- 35:52Speaker 5: of Oregon, Yeah, that helps you immediately as well. And
- 35:55Speaker 5: the fact that they didn't do that is awesome. But
- 35:58Speaker 5: they did address their biggest need in the offseason when
- 36:01Speaker 5: they picked up McDuffie and Jalen Watson. So they got
- 36:04Speaker 5: two starting corners that come in they're better, just like that.
- 36:07Speaker 5: Seattle is at the same level, you know, losing a
- 36:13Speaker 5: couple of guys, replacing those guys, and if they add
- 36:15Speaker 5: foul I'd say that's an upgrade over boy in mofe.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Fowler is going to be thirty two at the start
- 36:20Speaker 1: of August. He had seven ten and a half sacks
- 36:24Speaker 1: for Washington two seasons ago. Then he three sacks in
- 36:27Speaker 1: a seventeen games with the Cowboys last year. The connection
- 36:30Speaker 1: is Aden Dirty was his defensive line coach in Dallas
- 36:33Speaker 1: two years.
- 36:34Speaker 5: Probably the other guy named DeMarcus Lawrence.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Too, right, Yes, DeMarcus Lawrence was his teammate for two
- 36:38Speaker 1: years twenty two and twenty three, and Aden Dirty was
- 36:42Speaker 1: the defensive.
- 36:43Speaker 5: It worked with It worked with Lawrence here, didn't it?
- 36:45Speaker 1: Sure did.
- 36:46Speaker 5: Maybe it's a Cowboys issue.
- 36:48Speaker 1: By the way, Aden Dirty, He's probably gonna be a
- 36:50Speaker 1: star of hard narks, as.
- 36:52Speaker 5: I would assume.
- 36:53Speaker 1: So, yeah, the British accent barking out on the field.
- 36:55Speaker 1: There are a lot of people in the organization, starting
- 36:57Speaker 1: with the head coach on down, who think Adden Dirty
- 37:00Speaker 1: may be a head coach this time next year.
- 37:01Speaker 5: Good for him, that'd be awesome. I mean, you don't
- 37:03Speaker 5: want to lose good people, I guess I think losing
- 37:07Speaker 5: him would be a lot easier than losing Clint Kubiak
- 37:09Speaker 5: last year.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Yes, right, Yes, Because he doesn't call the plays. He does.
- 37:13Speaker 1: He is part of the architect of the game plan,
- 37:16Speaker 1: but he is not as vital as kin Kubiak. No, No,
- 37:19Speaker 1: Brian Fleury now is Yeah, Brian Flury coming in.
- 37:21Speaker 5: We'll see what changes with that because Kubiak obviously did
- 37:24Speaker 5: a good enough job to get hired as a head coach.
- 37:26Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you, I didn't see I know
- 37:28Speaker 5: his name was out there, did you really?
- 37:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 37:31Speaker 5: Good for him, I mean good for him. It's also
- 37:33Speaker 5: the Raiders, and you never know what's going on there.
- 37:35Speaker 1: So the players say he has a very dry sense
- 37:38Speaker 1: of humor that doesn't really translate to us.
- 37:41Speaker 5: I guess you know it's so weird because like sometimes
- 37:44Speaker 5: it's reputation around the league, and I think I bring
- 37:47Speaker 5: that up for this reason. You you know, when Mike
- 37:50Speaker 5: McDonald was hired, I know you and you guys had
- 37:52Speaker 5: talked to some guys in Baltimore gone good luck and
- 37:54Speaker 5: anything out of that guy personality and this and that
- 37:56Speaker 5: and all those things. He was thought to be the
- 37:59Speaker 5: guy because he was the Ben Johnson of defense. The
- 38:03Speaker 5: football acumen was there, the personality never came across anywhere.
- 38:06Speaker 5: He's really grown into that like quite a bit. So
- 38:09Speaker 5: maybe Kubiak will as well. But uh yeah, dirty, I
- 38:12Speaker 5: bet Hard Knocks is gonna love the accent.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 38:16Speaker 5: Uh, They're gonna have like four guys to choose from
- 38:18Speaker 5: in the secondary to put a mic on, including Witherspoon
- 38:21Speaker 5: and two rookies, right, Neil and Bud Clark. I mean
- 38:25Speaker 5: those are both guys that can talk, you know, offensively.
- 38:29Speaker 5: Gray's Abel has to be a guy, right, Yeah, has
- 38:32Speaker 5: to be Cooper Cup of Old Court and yeah, and Cup,
- 38:37Speaker 5: I think I think you just got to put it
- 38:39Speaker 5: on Zabel, like because they're gonna put usually put Mike's on,
- 38:41Speaker 5: like four guys or something like that over the course
- 38:43Speaker 5: of the week. Zabel seems to be the guy, right
- 38:45Speaker 5: because nobody else in that offensive line talks and can talk,
- 38:49Speaker 5: you know, and probably not gonna do the quarterback Charbone's
- 38:53Speaker 5: hurts rookie running back, you know, yeah, Jays and we
- 38:57Speaker 5: love him, but he ain't a talker. You put it on,
- 39:00Speaker 5: put on Gray's Abel, have some fun.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he was actually Actually a J.
- 39:05Speaker 5: Barn would be the other guy.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Yes, a J.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Barner could be a star.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah for hard dogs, that's a good call too. Yeah,
- 39:10Speaker 1: what do you get today? Thank you?
- 39:13Speaker 5: We're gonna check in. Actually, Dwight James is going to
- 39:15Speaker 5: join us, the Godfather from Portland. Lot's going on down
- 39:19Speaker 5: there there with the NBA and I don't know, Seattle
- 39:21Speaker 5: connected we'll find out. We'll talk to the Godfather. Coming
- 39:23Speaker 5: up at twelve twenty today, we posted some stuff in
- 39:26Speaker 5: the NBA yesterday. It was the reactions strange. We'll get
- 39:29Speaker 5: to that in the first segment.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Uh.
- 39:31Speaker 5: Then we got uh yeah, we got Joe she Ian
- 39:33Speaker 5: talking baseball one twenty today and John lund is weekly visit.
- 39:36Speaker 5: Who knows how that'll go. Coming up at two, we're
- 39:39Speaker 5: doing a new thing. We started last week. We'll do
- 39:41Speaker 5: it again today. Every now and then when it comes in.
- 39:42Speaker 5: We I like a sports confession, you know. The Catholic
- 39:46Speaker 5: in me brings up the confessional.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I come up with more deadly sins, by the way,
- 39:50Speaker 1: so we'll mention those.
- 39:50Speaker 5: Okay, good, I like that.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I will.
- 39:53Speaker 5: I have one today that I think is going to
- 39:55Speaker 5: be polarizing, and that's that's code for not popular amongst many,
- 40:01Speaker 5: and it kind of I'm the only reason I thought
- 40:03Speaker 5: of it is listening to you and Chris talked today
- 40:05Speaker 5: about something on ESPN, and I'll just leave it at
- 40:07Speaker 5: that something on ESPN.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'll leave it at that.
- 40:10Speaker 5: I'll tell you off here, okay, Okay.
- 40:12Speaker 1: The devout Christian Catholic in you, we all know.
- 40:14Speaker 5: You must be as devout as it comes. I mean,
- 40:18Speaker 5: one of oday looks at me and says, that's the
- 40:20Speaker 5: guy we're proud of.
- 40:23Speaker 1: And as we are out number, we got two days here. Yeah,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you know he's a blanche Braves, Yeah, Braves, Blanchet whatever.
- 40:30Speaker 5: That's where that's that's where we all. That's where we
- 40:33Speaker 5: all wanted to go. They had girls there, right, Chris,
- 40:37Speaker 5: That's where we all wanted to go. They girls there,
- 40:41Speaker 5: couldn't do anything else there. But Blanchet's also the blame
- 40:45Speaker 5: for Bob Ferguson. So you guys take that.
- 40:46Speaker 1: L and we blame you remember.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Uh, I say, Saint Anne's Blanchett, and you double all
- 40:52Speaker 5: the blame for him. You guys all take the L
- 40:53Speaker 5: on that one. That's seeing for nests, not me, complaint
- 40:58Speaker 5: for nest. He's up next, Ragbell, Christopher GETI join it
- 41:01Speaker 5: again tomorrow. Thanks for listening. He ends up next on
- 41:03Speaker 5: ninety three point three kJ RFM.
