• 1:34
Speaker 4: is some there's and I'll call it some strange some
• 1:39
Speaker 4: strange stuff that is taking place taking place, has taken place,
• 1:44
  Speaker 4: and probably.
• 1:45
Speaker 2: Going forward is going to be really interesting.
• 1:53
Speaker 4: You had you had hit me up earlier about a
• 1:55
  Speaker 4: situation with with.
• 1:58
Speaker 5: Uh situation with the UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka. Again, he's
• 2:04
Speaker 5: a UNLV starting quarterback, and essentially what's happening is that
• 2:08
Speaker 5: he's chosen to lead the team. He's going to red
• 2:11
Speaker 5: shirt because when you red shirt, you can play up
• 2:14
  Speaker 5: the four games.
• 2:14
Speaker 6: Now, so he's played three, he's going to red shirt.
• 2:17
Speaker 5: He's leaving the team because there's just a dispute about
• 2:21
Speaker 5: NIL payment. So basically what he is a legend is
• 2:25
Speaker 5: that somebody on the coaching staff told him that he
• 2:28
Speaker 5: was going to get one hundred thousand dollars. Again, it
• 2:31
Speaker 5: wasn't and from what the school is stating, it wasn't
• 2:34
Speaker 5: a formal agreement, so it's not on paper, it's not document,
• 2:37
Speaker 5: it's not contracted. I think he ended up getting paid
• 2:40
Speaker 5: about three thousand, which is maybe that like their normal
• 2:43
Speaker 5: NIL did for their student athletes, So basically saying, and
• 2:48
Speaker 5: I believe him and his family. They've hired an agent recently,
• 2:52
Speaker 5: and I think the reason, and again this is just
• 2:54
Speaker 5: my own speculation, I think the reason in which they
• 2:56
Speaker 5: hired the agent was to say, hey, let's go after
• 2:58
Speaker 5: that hundred thousand was promised and basically the school said, hey,
• 3:02
Speaker 5: we ain't paying you the hunt and leaving.
• 3:06
  Speaker 2: Okay, so.
• 3:09
Speaker 4: Did we did did we not assume that at some
• 3:12
Speaker 4: point in time this could happen?
• 3:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, and we talked about remember the kid from Florida. Yes,
• 3:17
Speaker 5: from that they signed to Florida. Didn't go right, and
• 3:20
Speaker 5: you know, so this this has happened before. So but
• 3:22
Speaker 5: I think this case is unique because again, not only
• 3:27
Speaker 5: has is he the starting quarterback, but I mean he's
• 3:29
Speaker 5: actually they're doing really well. You and l V is
• 3:32
Speaker 5: three and oh they got wins against Houston, wins against Kansas,
• 3:36
Speaker 5: so they were probably it looks like they were on
• 3:38
Speaker 5: their way to competing and and maybe not playoffs, but
• 3:41
Speaker 5: you know, getting in the high level bowl game.
• 3:45
Speaker 4: All right, So let's start with the Let's start with
• 3:48
Speaker 4: the team. Yeah, the the organizational piece to this, Okay,
• 3:53
Speaker 4: and I'm the head coach. I shouldn't know if you
• 4:01
  Speaker 4: if you're my O C offensive coordinator, That's exactly how
• 4:06
  Speaker 4: they played out.
• 4:06
Speaker 5: That's the allegation is that the offensive coordinator offered him
• 4:09
Speaker 5: this or he was going to get this.
• 4:11
Speaker 4: So the issue for me as the head coach, I'm
• 4:16
Speaker 4: losing a player as the player all based on you
• 4:24
Speaker 4: either offered something that we didn't have, or you offered
• 4:30
Speaker 4: something and and I can't say it's not in writing
• 4:36
Speaker 4: because that's the benefit.
• 4:39
Speaker 2: For the player to be able.
• 4:41
Speaker 4: To go because if it was, if it was actually
• 4:44
Speaker 4: legal game, yes, then then then you're kind of locked
• 4:47
Speaker 4: or you're either locked to what they said or or
• 4:51
Speaker 4: you they either wrote down something a different number than
• 4:54
Speaker 4: what you agreed on, which I don't see that. I
• 4:58
  Speaker 4: don't I don't see that being the case. What I
• 5:02
Speaker 4: see being the case is I do think.
• 5:06
Speaker 2: The OC who I need you, you, the quarterback, I
• 5:11
  Speaker 2: need you.
• 5:13
Speaker 4: I can't see me promising you something and then maybe
• 5:18
Speaker 4: coming back to the head coach or.
• 5:21
Speaker 2: Or like trying to figure it out. We'll figure it
• 5:23
  Speaker 2: out later.
• 5:24
Speaker 5: Yeah, Because I mean this guy, this kid again, mas Luca,
• 5:27
Speaker 5: he was a transfer in from Holy Cross at the
• 5:30
  Speaker 5: FCF level.
• 5:31
  Speaker 2: I mean he's a good quarterback.
• 5:32
Speaker 5: I mean he threw for Darner seventeen hundred yards at
• 5:35
Speaker 5: the FCS level. He rushed for twelve hundred yards at
• 5:39
Speaker 5: the FCS level, twenty nine total touchdowns had. He's six three,
• 5:43
Speaker 5: two fifteen, so he's prototypical size. So he's actually a
• 5:47
  Speaker 5: you know, he's a different he's a decent player.
• 5:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think because it's not a name that
• 5:52
Speaker 4: everybody probably knows because it's not teams that we see
• 5:54
Speaker 4: here a lot the legitimacy of his ability it's clear.
• 6:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, and he's and he's shown it.
• 6:04
Speaker 4: But how long did we think that this would go
• 6:08
Speaker 4: to with nil that we we don't have some kind
• 6:12
Speaker 4: of dispute like because somebody's going to offer somebody And
• 6:17
Speaker 4: my question, and I don't know if you know this
• 6:19
  Speaker 4: because I because I don't. How do I know unless
• 6:24
Speaker 4: I'm I come to you as a booster, how do
• 6:27
Speaker 4: I know how I can actually.
• 6:31
Speaker 2: Pay the ni L money to each individual player?
• 6:33
Speaker 4: And if that's on, if that's in a contract kind
• 6:36
Speaker 4: of stance, then I have to make sure that money
• 6:40
Speaker 4: is coming from somebody or we have it of some sort,
• 6:45
Speaker 4: we can generate it and pay it out each week
• 6:48
Speaker 4: or each month, whatever the case may be.
• 6:52
Speaker 2: How does this get how does this get how does
• 6:54
Speaker 2: this get out of? Why?
• 6:55
Speaker 5: But UNLV they have a collective. Like I said, I
• 6:57
Speaker 5: just think to your point, I think it was a
• 6:59
  Speaker 5: suit in which.
• 7:01
  Speaker 2: That offense promise.
• 7:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, the offensive coordinators, he's seen what that kid could do,
• 7:06
Speaker 5: he's seen what he could you know, how he was
• 7:09
Speaker 5: going to make that offense better, and he just say
• 7:11
Speaker 5: I'm laying it all on the line. I'm doing whatever
• 7:13
Speaker 5: it takes to get that kid. Now, let me ask
• 7:15
Speaker 5: you this as a former coach, like what is your
• 7:21
Speaker 5: perspective on such not particularly this situation, but situations like this,
• 7:27
Speaker 5: like how does it resonate to you?
• 7:30
Speaker 4: First of all, I'm not giving you, as my offensive coordinator,
• 7:35
Speaker 4: the the okay to say how much money it's going
• 7:39
Speaker 4: to be unless I'm telling you that we're giving him
• 7:42
Speaker 4: twenty five dollars. Okay, Now you repeat that and giving
• 7:45
Speaker 4: him twenty five dollars. But you don't have I don't
• 7:47
Speaker 4: see you having the ability unless we've talked about where
• 7:52
  Speaker 4: you can go.
• 7:54
Speaker 2: I have to have told you we can go to
• 7:57
  Speaker 2: three hundred. Yeah.
• 7:58
Speaker 5: But I think in that case then then in this situation,
• 8:02
Speaker 5: the head coach steps in and say, okay, that's what
• 8:04
Speaker 5: it is, and he sort of formalizes the agreement. But
• 8:07
Speaker 5: from all indications, from what the head coach stated, from
• 8:10
Speaker 5: what the university stated, I don't think anybody knew outside
• 8:13
Speaker 5: of the OC what was offered exactly.
• 8:15
Speaker 2: And and if I if I'm not, if I'm not mistaken.
• 8:19
Speaker 4: When they're making the case that he's not comment that
• 8:23
Speaker 4: he hasn't made like the question is because it's simple, right, hollis,
• 8:27
Speaker 4: did you did you promise this? And you say yes
• 8:30
Speaker 4: or no? But if I if I've heard correctly, he's
• 8:34
Speaker 4: not commenting yeah right now, no? And okay, so what
• 8:38
Speaker 4: does that I mean to me?
• 8:39
  Speaker 2: That's guilt.
• 8:41
Speaker 5: I'm not gonna say that. I'm gonna put that on
• 8:43
Speaker 5: the man, but it sounds bad.
• 8:45
Speaker 2: It does sound bad.
• 8:46
Speaker 5: So from a head coaching perspective, if this is the case,
• 8:51
Speaker 5: the OC, you caused me to lose our starting quarterback,
• 8:54
Speaker 5: who was apparently again got two big wins early in
• 8:56
Speaker 5: the season, appears to be really good.
• 9:00
Speaker 4: He's at a fireball fence. I think everything about the
• 9:03
Speaker 4: situation is fired. So like, go now, there's no we're
• 9:07
Speaker 4: going with the quarterback. He's gone now, yeah, yeah, he's gone.
• 9:10
Speaker 4: Now he's gone packing up because one something happened. There
• 9:15
Speaker 4: was something you and that player had some kind of
• 9:17
Speaker 4: communication at some point, like he because he could have
• 9:21
Speaker 4: picked any coach, right, he could have picked any coach.
• 9:24
Speaker 4: He's saying that you, as the officive coordinator, promised him
• 9:27
Speaker 4: this outside of what I said it was gonna be,
• 9:32
Speaker 4: and everything is coming back to you.
• 9:35
Speaker 2: And then when when you.
• 9:37
Speaker 5: Say I don't have a comment, well it may be
• 9:40
Speaker 5: the coaches in the school not allowing him to comment
• 9:43
  Speaker 5: at this time.
• 9:43
Speaker 2: That could be the case.
• 9:44
Speaker 4: That could be the case. But if that's the case,
• 9:47
Speaker 4: we know the truth. Okay, So so you know what I'm saying.
• 9:49
Speaker 4: So if if I'm telling you don't say nothing, that's
• 9:52
Speaker 4: your comment. When the when the press comes to you,
• 9:55
Speaker 4: anybody comes to you and ask you, you say, I
• 9:59
  Speaker 4: have no comment.
• 10:00
Speaker 5: With that being said, and let's just talk about on
• 10:03
Speaker 5: the field. Now, Look, you already lost your starting quarterback
• 10:06
Speaker 5: who was apparently pretty good.
• 10:07
Speaker 2: We don't know what the backup is.
• 10:09
Speaker 5: I mean, I think they win a nine to five
• 10:11
Speaker 5: last season, so they had a decent season for UNLV
• 10:14
Speaker 5: last season, and we don't know kind of the status
• 10:18
Speaker 5: of the backup. Are you at this point willing to
• 10:21
Speaker 5: lose your starting quarterback and yoc in one week and
• 10:24
Speaker 5: you got to start all over moving forward?
• 10:26
Speaker 4: Well, let me let me let me let me make
• 10:27
Speaker 4: that question even worse. If I'm a player on that team. Yeah,
• 10:33
Speaker 4: and you've just done this to the quarterback. If I
• 10:36
Speaker 4: know for a fact that you promised him, or at
• 10:38
Speaker 4: least you told me that that's what they gave me,
• 10:42
Speaker 4: and now they're not holding true to that, why am
• 10:45
  Speaker 4: I staying?
• 10:47
  Speaker 2: See, I don't know if.
• 10:48
Speaker 4: This is the beginning or if this is just the ending,
• 10:52
Speaker 4: the beginning and end of a player leaving.
• 10:56
  Speaker 2: I'm thinking, what if you're a receiver.
• 11:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, if you're a receiver and he's really good, and
• 11:04
Speaker 4: you're a pretty decent back and you had a quarterback who.
• 11:06
Speaker 2: Was really good, Yeah, because we know what that does.
• 11:09
Speaker 2: It opens it up.
• 11:09
Speaker 5: It opens it up all of a sudden. So as
• 11:13
Speaker 5: a head coach, what do you do? Are you firing that?
• 11:16
Speaker 5: I think, are you willing to do that at this point?
• 11:18
Speaker 5: Or do you want to wait after the season?
• 11:22
Speaker 4: I would probably fire him now, but I'll say this.
• 11:27
Speaker 5: But Okay, So if you're firing him, what's the justification? Like,
• 11:31
Speaker 5: how are you not that you necessarily have to explain
• 11:33
Speaker 5: it to the team, But how are you explaining it
• 11:35
  Speaker 5: to the team.
• 11:36
Speaker 2: I'm going to explain it that.
• 11:37
Speaker 4: Coach staff that there should have been some kind of
• 11:40
Speaker 4: there should have been a system of how ni O
• 11:43
Speaker 4: money was decided on and reported back. If I'm the
• 11:47
Speaker 4: head coach, I should be able to tell you it's
• 11:49
Speaker 4: the OC. Okay, you can go as high as such
• 11:51
Speaker 4: and something. This is what we got, This is what
• 11:52
Speaker 4: we got, This is what the budget is. You go
• 11:55
Speaker 4: over the budget, you know, you went over the budget
• 12:00
Speaker 4: any even how bad the budget is, then we got
• 12:02
Speaker 4: a problem. But not only did you do something that
• 12:05
Speaker 4: could impact the budget, you just impacted the player and
• 12:10
Speaker 4: the team and the team. So I don't know how
• 12:13
Speaker 4: you can be beneficial to me after you basically have
• 12:17
Speaker 4: disrupted literally the whole the whole structure.
• 12:21
Speaker 2: Of the team and the NIL process.
• 12:25
Speaker 5: Yeah, because to me, and again, and I ain't you know,
• 12:30
Speaker 5: I don't ever want to, you know, have somebody's job
• 12:33
  Speaker 5: on the line, or I don't want to. I don't
• 12:35
Speaker 5: like commenting on people's jobs because you know, that's a
• 12:37
Speaker 5: livelihood and all that. But to me, it's like that's
• 12:40
Speaker 5: the only thing you can do in this situation as
• 12:42
Speaker 5: it stands right now, because to me, what the university
• 12:45
Speaker 5: should have did they should have found some money and
• 12:46
Speaker 5: paid the kid if it was substantiated that that coach
• 12:51
Speaker 5: and did in fact made that promise.
• 12:53
Speaker 2: Do you got maybe you don't get a whole hundred grand?
• 12:55
  Speaker 2: Maybe you work?
• 12:56
  Speaker 3: Can we.
• 12:58
Speaker 2: Can we negotiate? Can we negotiat this with the agent?
• 13:01
Speaker 5: Maybe you find something another way, or you pay it
• 13:04
Speaker 5: out differently, or whatever has to be done in this situation,
• 13:07
Speaker 5: because what happens is now the university of the school, the
• 13:10
Speaker 5: coaches that whoever they're not paying the kid, the kid leaves.
• 13:13
Speaker 5: Now as the head coach, you almost have to fire
• 13:17
Speaker 5: that guy to set a precedent, and it's almost like
• 13:20
Speaker 5: you're three and oh, but your darn season got to
• 13:23
Speaker 5: start all over again because now trust has got to
• 13:25
Speaker 5: be a re established and system has to be in place.
• 13:28
Speaker 2: So you almost don't have a choice.
• 13:30
Speaker 4: And I don't know this, and maybe I should, and
• 13:34
Speaker 4: so I'm hoping maybe that you may know it, but
• 13:37
Speaker 4: I have to assume that these.
• 13:39
Speaker 2: Nils are are contracts.
• 13:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think for the most part, you signed some
• 13:45
Speaker 5: side as normally what even I know some states have
• 13:48
Speaker 5: allowed the schools to make direct payments, and then some
• 13:51
Speaker 5: schools they do it through like what's called a collective,
• 13:55
Speaker 5: so they'll have a collective of boosters and companies and
• 13:58
Speaker 5: third parties that they'll work with that may be paying.
• 14:01
Speaker 5: So that check could come from somebody, it comes from
• 14:05
  Speaker 5: U N l V.
• 14:05
Speaker 2: They have like the the collective or whatever. Okay, So.
• 14:12
Speaker 4: I'm again, I think the problem that you have with
• 14:15
Speaker 4: with this coach is trust.
• 14:20
Speaker 6: Because he's coming the head coach right.
• 14:25
Speaker 2: Because he can't who who's gonna listen to him? So
• 14:28
Speaker 2: let's say the OC.
• 14:29
Speaker 4: Comes to you as as as a as a running
• 14:34
Speaker 4: back and and telling you, Okay, Hollis, we're gonna give
• 14:37
Speaker 4: you this amount of money.
• 14:38
Speaker 5: Are you gonna buy that? Y'all would have to see
• 14:41
Speaker 5: it in writing. I mean, you can tell me what
• 14:42
Speaker 5: you want to tell me, like, Okay, let's get.
• 14:44
Speaker 4: The contract, give it to me, Give it to me,
• 14:47
  Speaker 4: and I'll accept it. It's enough, It's what I wanted,
• 14:51
Speaker 4: But I have to have it in writing now, which
• 14:55
Speaker 4: now forces you to do what to go back to
• 14:57
Speaker 4: the source of where that money is coming from? What
• 15:00
Speaker 4: that's the OC athletic director, booster whoever to confirm that, yeah,
• 15:06
Speaker 4: and now that's then it becomes a very clear process
• 15:09
Speaker 4: of what you offered or the other other side of
• 15:12
Speaker 4: that is you have an amount because he's your guy, right,
• 15:17
Speaker 4: you're coaching him. So as the OC, you're gonna come
• 15:21
Speaker 4: to me or come to me, go through me to
• 15:24
Speaker 4: the booster and say I think we need this much
• 15:27
Speaker 4: money for this particular player. We all agree, we we
• 15:32
Speaker 4: shoveled in the money, and we're all good.
• 15:35
Speaker 2: We're all on the same page. I think this issue
• 15:38
  Speaker 2: is a clear.
• 15:39
Speaker 4: Example of what happens in your NIL process if everybody.
• 15:44
Speaker 2: Is not on the same page.
• 15:45
Speaker 6: Yeah, and you're not following protogram.
• 15:47
Speaker 5: Because generally, even though in the money itself may be
• 15:51
Speaker 5: coming from that third party, that collective, it generally is
• 15:54
Speaker 5: facilitated through the AD, and the AD generally has to
• 15:58
Speaker 5: sign from everything that I underst saying the eighty has
• 16:01
Speaker 5: to sign off, or it has to be a process
• 16:02
Speaker 5: in which the A the eighty reviews what's kind of
• 16:05
Speaker 5: going on, whether it's you know, a direct payment or
• 16:08
Speaker 5: through a collective or even endorsements to come through the
• 16:11
Speaker 5: Athletic department in some capacity. So it looked like from
• 16:15
Speaker 5: what it appears the allegations or allegedly, it appears that
• 16:18
Speaker 5: this OC just was like he just said, forget the process,
• 16:21
Speaker 5: I need this guy, let's go.
• 16:23
Speaker 4: I mean, what's interesting to me too, though, when you
• 16:25
Speaker 4: when you talk about that that process.
• 16:30
Speaker 2: I haven't heard anything from the AD.
• 16:33
Speaker 5: I mean, I think it's coming from the university, So
• 16:35
Speaker 5: I would imagine that those comments may be derived from
• 16:37
  Speaker 5: the eighty.
• 16:38
Speaker 4: But wouldn't you like to say, wouldn't you like to
• 16:41
Speaker 4: hear specifically what the AD is thinking in this moment?
• 16:46
Speaker 2: He's got an AD.
• 16:47
Speaker 5: But I don't think you would want to do that
• 16:48
Speaker 5: from the university's perspective, because you don't want to open
• 16:52
Speaker 5: up different gates of you know, culpability. You kind of
• 16:55
Speaker 5: want to just keep it generic and get in, get out.
• 16:57
Speaker 4: But it's not gonna at the end of the day, though,
• 16:59
Speaker 4: it's not going to be generic. Somebody somebody either promised
• 17:04
Speaker 4: or or they didn't.
• 17:06
Speaker 5: And but I see, I think the problem with this
• 17:09
  Speaker 5: is that I think I don't know. I just think
• 17:12
Speaker 5: the university handled it wrong because this to me has
• 17:15
Speaker 5: implications as far as you know, the whole college football
• 17:20
Speaker 5: is this point, because I could see them from this
• 17:22
Speaker 5: not necessarily based solely off this base, with this and
• 17:24
Speaker 5: the kid what happened in Florida where they didn't they
• 17:26
Speaker 5: failed to pay the money that was promised. I could
• 17:29
Speaker 5: see players unionizing. I could see because at some point
• 17:33
Speaker 5: the n c DOUAA has to come up with guidelines
• 17:36
Speaker 5: and rules for this. This isn't the insanity that again,
• 17:39
Speaker 5: because I couldn't imagine. You know, it's what is it?
• 17:42
Speaker 5: It's Wednesday. So what you're doing on Wednesday? We full
• 17:45
Speaker 5: go on Wednesday. We're doing off defense. You know, we're
• 17:49
Speaker 5: actually this is where we're you know, we had our
• 17:51
Speaker 5: light day Monday. We're back Tuesday. We full go Wednesday.
• 17:54
Speaker 5: So this is our practice day. Wednesday. Wednesday is the
• 17:57
Speaker 5: day you really get it ease. So this is we
• 18:00
Speaker 5: specialties were doing on that on Wednesday. And my darn
• 18:03
Speaker 5: quarterback is missing just because of this and now and
• 18:06
Speaker 5: now I and now as a coach, I bear the
• 18:09
Speaker 5: burden of having to suffer the consequences if we just
• 18:13
Speaker 5: win three games and were out of here and based
• 18:16
Speaker 5: off this goofy offens coordinator allegedly.
• 18:18
Speaker 4: And to to to paint even a clearer picture of
• 18:23
Speaker 4: what's taking place. The coaches have already started game planning for.
• 18:29
Speaker 2: The next You ready started getting Sunday, right, yes.
• 18:32
Speaker 4: So Sunday and Monday they got the game plan set up,
• 18:36
Speaker 4: set up, so by Monday practice life practice on Monday
• 18:40
Speaker 4: were already talking about this is the defense that they're running,
• 18:43
Speaker 4: this is who we think we can attack here, and
• 18:45
Speaker 4: da da da da dah. And then you then you
• 18:48
Speaker 4: get another day. You know, now you go Tuesday, and
• 18:53
Speaker 4: now here you are Wednesday, and you don't even have
• 18:56
Speaker 4: you don't even have the guy.
• 18:58
Speaker 2: You don't even have the guy that you thought and
• 19:02
Speaker 2: can be your guy.
• 19:02
Speaker 5: And well people don't maybe who haven't game plan didn't
• 19:05
Speaker 5: play particularly college football. What you understand is that, or
• 19:09
Speaker 5: maybe what you don't understand is that when you have
• 19:11
Speaker 5: a different quarterback, the game plan changes based off the
• 19:15
Speaker 5: skill set, because generally, unless you're lucky, you generally may
• 19:18
Speaker 5: not have two guys with the exact same skill set,
• 19:21
  Speaker 5: per se.
• 19:21
Speaker 4: It would to that point, it would be it would
• 19:24
Speaker 4: be like Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady. If one of
• 19:32
Speaker 4: those guys, let's say Brady's the starter and he's out
• 19:36
Speaker 4: so the game plan now changes because of the athleticism
• 19:42
Speaker 4: of Mahomes, you know, so you can actually now change that,
• 19:46
Speaker 4: you can change and put some new things in because
• 19:49
Speaker 4: of that ability. So that's the importance of actually having
• 19:53
  Speaker 4: a game plan.
• 19:54
Speaker 5: And like I said, and just to talk about sort
• 19:56
Speaker 5: of like the bigger picture of this, this is just
• 19:59
Speaker 5: really this heartening that this is where we're at with
• 20:01
Speaker 5: college football. To me, college football college sports in general
• 20:05
Speaker 5: was like sort of the last sanctuary of what we
• 20:09
Speaker 5: thought sports were at a high level when you had,
• 20:12
Speaker 5: like I said, the Saturday Morning Heroes, when you had
• 20:14
Speaker 5: those guys who were staying for at least three years,
• 20:17
Speaker 5: because unlike basketball, college football you.
• 20:20
Speaker 6: Stayed for three years.
• 20:21
Speaker 5: So we got familiar with those guys and then they
• 20:23
Speaker 5: were off to the proof they were good enough.
• 20:25
Speaker 6: And just the level of movement.
• 20:27
Speaker 5: Like I said, this kid, Matthew Slock, I'd mess up
• 20:31
Speaker 5: his name, the quarterback from UNLV. He came from Holy
• 20:35
Speaker 5: cost he was at UNLV. Now he'll end up going
• 20:37
Speaker 5: somewhere else strictly pretty much based off money money, and
• 20:41
Speaker 5: again and again, I ain't got a problem. You gotta
• 20:43
Speaker 5: get yours, but we gotta get some sort of stipulations
• 20:46
  Speaker 5: on this because.
• 20:47
Speaker 2: Again, that movement just in a matter of three.
• 20:52
Speaker 4: Years going to be three years three teams, right, three
• 20:57
Speaker 4: years three teams essentially, Yeah, that's not even possible. That's
• 21:01
Speaker 4: not even possible at the pro level.
• 21:05
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. You don't have that opportunity
• 21:09
Speaker 2: to be able to do that at the pro level.
• 21:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, Man, to me, just stuff like this hurts the game, man,
• 21:13
Speaker 5: It really, it really damages the game to me.
• 21:17
Speaker 4: And let me okay, for everybody who's listening, and you're
• 21:23
Speaker 4: a fan of a team, and you've got a great quarterback,
• 21:28
Speaker 4: you've got a great running back, you gotta whatever, whatever,
• 21:31
Speaker 4: you got a great team as a whole, and all
• 21:34
Speaker 4: of a sudden, heading into the next week, you lose
• 21:40
Speaker 4: some of these particular players or a particular player simply
• 21:43
Speaker 4: because that's the part simply because a deal fell through. Yeah,
• 21:52
Speaker 4: how how do you respond to that? Because that's it
• 21:56
Speaker 4: doesn't even work that way in the league.
• 22:00
Speaker 5: I mean you'll see like the holdouts the beginning of
• 22:02
Speaker 5: the season, and they.
• 22:04
Speaker 2: Don't typically hold out very long because.
• 22:06
Speaker 5: It's costing, you know, So, I man, this is just
• 22:10
  Speaker 5: I don't know, man, Like I said, I don't want
• 22:12
Speaker 5: to sound old school. I don't want to sound like compurious,
• 22:14
Speaker 5: but I just think at some point, like we have
• 22:17
Speaker 5: to come up with a Like I said, I believe
• 22:19
Speaker 5: you and LV they should have worked out an agreement
• 22:21
Speaker 5: and we should have never heard of this. But I
• 22:24
Speaker 5: think at a higher level, the NCAA has got to
• 22:26
Speaker 5: do something. I mean, to to be that flawed of
• 22:29
Speaker 5: an organization, to be around for this long, to have
• 22:33
Speaker 5: this much money, and to to have this much a
• 22:36
Speaker 5: quote unquote acclaim it just to be this raggedy of
• 22:39
Speaker 5: an organization. It's just amazing to me that they're still
• 22:42
Speaker 5: operable because this is stuff like this, like you should
• 22:46
Speaker 5: have seen this coming. This should have been handled, you know,
• 22:49
Speaker 5: two three years ago.
• 22:50
Speaker 2: I'm gonna probably say something.
• 22:51
Speaker 4: I'm gonna say something probably I probably shouldn't say probably, But.
• 22:57
Speaker 2: This is what happens. I think.
• 22:59
  Speaker 4: I think it's it's the same thing that's happened in
• 23:01
Speaker 4: high school. I think the same thing happens in youth football.
• 23:08
Speaker 4: You get folks in a room and what they think
• 23:14
Speaker 4: is best for the league, a team, whatever the case
• 23:21
Speaker 4: may be, and they make these decisions too. Like to me,
• 23:26
Speaker 4: I think it's like this freedom of the athlete. You know,
• 23:30
Speaker 4: the athletes have to have this freedom. They should have
• 23:32
Speaker 4: they should have the ability to play wherever they want.
• 23:37
  Speaker 2: Okay, So then.
• 23:40
Speaker 4: Then there's no reason anybody talking about community spirit.
• 23:45
  Speaker 2: That's done right.
• 23:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no all those all the kind of things
• 23:50
Speaker 4: team unity, school unity, all of those kind of things,
• 23:54
Speaker 4: you might as well just say okay, because none of
• 23:56
  Speaker 4: those things exist.
• 23:57
Speaker 2: So when you're creating these rules, you're killing.
• 24:02
Speaker 4: All of the sustain all the things that mean something
• 24:08
Speaker 4: in high school, college, in college.
• 24:11
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
• 24:11
Speaker 5: And a lot of times it's done selfishly because you're
• 24:14
Speaker 5: just thinking about you. Because we were talking last week
• 24:17
Speaker 5: and we were talking about like the PAC twelve and
• 24:19
Speaker 5: the kind of its disbandonment at this point, And what
• 24:23
Speaker 5: I was saying was just like it was great, particularly
• 24:25
Speaker 5: on a Saturday when you have something to do.
• 24:28
Speaker 6: Your Saturday was taken up. You can't watch no college ball.
• 24:30
Speaker 5: But I could come in, everybody in the house sleep,
• 24:34
Speaker 5: it's ten nine o'clock and I can watch.
• 24:38
  Speaker 2: UCLA.
• 24:38
Speaker 5: I could watch USC I could watch Oregon, I could
• 24:41
Speaker 5: watch Washington. Like they've killed that because now they're playing
• 24:45
Speaker 5: in the freaking Big twelve or Big ten or whatever.
• 24:48
Speaker 2: I don't even know where they're at now, you know
• 24:50
  Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
• 24:50
Speaker 5: So it's like everything about what they have done to
• 24:55
Speaker 5: a sport that I cherish and love, it's just been terrible.
• 24:58
Speaker 5: They haven't made the game better now other than allowing
• 25:01
Speaker 5: the players to get some money.
• 25:02
Speaker 4: Well, and and to your point, there there are people
• 25:05
Speaker 4: who and I'll just use the old kV C. They
• 25:10
Speaker 4: they didn't even have to think about all the teams
• 25:12
Speaker 4: that was in the kV C.
• 25:13
Speaker 2: They knew who was in the kV C.
• 25:15
Speaker 4: Now you don't know how many teams, Like there are
• 25:19
Speaker 4: certain teams now that you have no idea what conference
• 25:21
Speaker 4: they're in, and you and you know that they're not
• 25:25
Speaker 4: you know, they're not playing in the valley And it
• 25:28
Speaker 4: makes no and and why and what was what's the
• 25:32
  Speaker 4: benefit of it?
• 25:33
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 25:35
Speaker 4: Is anybody? Is anybody? Did you go to the South
• 25:38
Speaker 4: Charleston game? The game last week?
• 25:40
  Speaker 2: Okay?
• 25:41
Speaker 4: Who who wants to go to that game? I mean
• 25:46
Speaker 4: I know, but I no, no, no, I get that,
• 25:49
Speaker 4: But watching it, watching how the game went, I mean,
• 25:56
  Speaker 4: is it is that? I mean, I know you're a
• 25:58
Speaker 4: GW guy and meeting South thruston always good.
• 26:00
Speaker 6: I'm a South Charleston MG. There yeah, I'm gonna tell
• 26:03
  Speaker 6: you first.
• 26:04
Speaker 4: But again, looking watching the game, there's no there's nothing
• 26:08
Speaker 4: interesting about it. It's like, okay, well looks like it's
• 26:12
Speaker 4: gonna be a blowout, and you know we just have
• 26:14
Speaker 4: to wait until the clocks end just to see how
• 26:17
  Speaker 4: bad it is.
• 26:18
Speaker 2: That's not what you want for high school football. That's
• 26:20
Speaker 2: not what you want for sports period period.
• 26:22
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 26:23
Speaker 4: You want you want to be able to come to
• 26:25
Speaker 4: a game and watch the game and know that it's
• 26:30
Speaker 4: going to be a good game. I'm competitive, yes, at least, yeah,
• 26:35
Speaker 4: come on, let's be competitive. Win or lose against GW,
• 26:39
Speaker 4: win or lose against Old Charleston High, win or lose
• 26:43
Speaker 4: against Stone Wall. You knew it was going to be
• 26:46
Speaker 4: a good game. And now we how many games do
• 26:50
Speaker 4: we get every weekend? Forty something to nothing, seventy to nothing,
• 26:56
Speaker 4: you know, like what fifty to fourteen?
• 27:00
Speaker 2: Like are you kidding me? Yeah?
• 27:02
Speaker 5: Man, it's like they just to your point, man, It's
• 27:06
Speaker 5: I don't know, man, I think it has to be
• 27:08
Speaker 5: a reckoning. And like I said, I think it has
• 27:10
Speaker 5: to be a point where you know, they just week
• 27:13
  Speaker 5: we cannot facing.
• 27:14
Speaker 7: Bad things happen to good people in this serious car
• 27:17
Speaker 7: accident or wrongfully arrested life happens, and when it happens
• 27:22
Speaker 7: to you, you will sound and aggressive representation.

Speaker 4: playing a team that is even worth is even worth playing? Yeah, man,
• 27:54
  Speaker 4: And I just don't know. I just don't know, Like
• 27:59
Speaker 4: how are we thinking that this is okay?
• 28:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's free agency at every level, and it's just
• 28:03
Speaker 5: like I said, it's just not necessarily making the game better,
• 28:05
Speaker 5: like I said, unless we wanna as far as high
• 28:07
Speaker 5: school sport, unless you're just gonna play a national schedule maybe,
• 28:11
Speaker 5: but you know, other than that, it's just a sass situation,
• 28:15
  Speaker 5: particularly at.
• 28:15
Speaker 2: The college level. And I love college football. That's my
• 28:18
  Speaker 2: favorite sport.
• 28:19
Speaker 4: Well and again because it's it's it has the same
• 28:22
Speaker 4: types of freedom and more freedoms. Right, I was gonna
• 28:26
Speaker 4: say freedoms and people who can make these decisions really easy.
• 28:32
Speaker 4: You're gonna see these types of things continue to happen,
• 28:35
Speaker 4: and I just think the games are all gonna go.
• 28:38

• 29:59
Speaker 2: All right, So, Brett Fahr, So we have.
• 30:09
Speaker 4: You know, one of the most notable quarterbacks in recent history,
• 30:16
Speaker 4: I guess, has come out and stated that he has
• 30:20
  Speaker 4: dementia Parkinson's and.
• 30:25
Speaker 5: And he and in addition, he studied, probably sustained maybe
• 30:29
Speaker 5: a thousand concussions during his playing career.
• 30:33
Speaker 4: And the crazy thing about that, you know, when you
• 30:36
Speaker 4: when when when when the public heres that that number,
• 30:39
Speaker 4: you know, they may take that literally. I'm gonna say,
• 30:45
Speaker 4: and I don't know as a fact, but he probably
• 30:50
Speaker 4: had so many that it might as well have been
• 30:54
  Speaker 4: a thousand.
• 30:55
Speaker 5: And again, when you have concussions, it's different grades. And
• 30:59
Speaker 5: no question, and I said.
• 31:02
Speaker 4: And the only, the only reason I wanted to justify
• 31:04
Speaker 4: that is is because again, you know, football is already
• 31:08
Speaker 4: a challenging sport and people are a little bit afraid
• 31:11
Speaker 4: of it now or a lot afraid of it now.
• 31:13
Speaker 4: So I don't want them to think that, you know,
• 31:15
Speaker 4: maybe that that was you know, I don't because I
• 31:18
Speaker 4: make the case that probably zero players could actually count
• 31:21
Speaker 4: how many times a day I've had a concussion, because
• 31:25
Speaker 4: you know, we went through the phase of ring your bell,
• 31:29
Speaker 4: you know, all these different terms, and.
• 31:32
Speaker 5: Then like just the way you get it, because it's
• 31:34
Speaker 5: not just like a head on head can collision this right,
• 31:37
Speaker 5: you get tackled a certain way, then your head can
• 31:39
Speaker 5: hit the hit the turf in a variety of ways
• 31:42
Speaker 5: that you can get a concussion.
• 31:44
Speaker 4: And so a lot of times and a lot of
• 31:46
Speaker 4: times when two helmets take two linemen make contact inside
• 31:51
Speaker 4: of the line of scrimmage, you know, one may be
• 31:56
Speaker 4: he may get his ball rung and we don't even
• 32:00
Speaker 4: see it and he and he's gonna shake it off
• 32:03
Speaker 4: and come right back, you know, and and may never
• 32:06
  Speaker 4: report it.
• 32:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think.
• 32:12
Speaker 4: You know, you you start looking and I'll say this,
• 32:16
Speaker 4: when you start looking at quarterbacks in in in this
• 32:21
Speaker 4: era now, or I'll say Brett Fahr, you know, his
• 32:27
Speaker 4: long tenure running into this time. I feel like what's
• 32:32
Speaker 4: happened is these quarterbacks are.
• 32:34
Speaker 9: Going for years and years and years and years and
• 32:39
Speaker 9: knowing the older that you get your escapability. Yeah, you know, yes,
• 32:47
Speaker 9: and and and and.
• 32:48
Speaker 4: And you're running into these situations of getting you're getting caught,
• 32:52
Speaker 4: you're getting hit, you can't get out the pocket, You're
• 32:55
Speaker 4: throwing a touchdown pass and get hit, and you're you
• 32:58
Speaker 4: get up and you're excited because you throw the touchdown
• 33:00
Speaker 4: and you're ignoring the hit.
• 33:03
Speaker 5: So let me ask you, Ken, I'm glad you brought
• 33:05
Speaker 5: this up, because, like I would say that Brett Farb
• 33:08
Speaker 5: is sort of the I think a lot of quarterbacks
• 33:12
Speaker 5: now based their style off of how he played, particularly
• 33:15
Speaker 5: his thrown ability and the angle said he used, and
• 33:18
Speaker 5: it's sort of his reckless style of playing. Should there
• 33:21
Speaker 5: be like when we're talking about the NFL pro level,
• 33:25
Speaker 5: should there be a cap on the number of years
• 33:28
Speaker 5: that you can play? Should should you be like man man,
• 33:31
Speaker 5: NFL you got fifteen? Or I never really I never
• 33:35
Speaker 5: thought about that. Hollis based off like because again, if
• 33:38
Speaker 5: he's saying he has Parkinson, then he's saying he got
• 33:41
Speaker 5: a thousand concussions, just like maybe Ali for exactle Muhammad Ali,
• 33:45
Speaker 5: He's basically saying, I probably got this from all them
• 33:48
Speaker 5: hips that I sustain.
• 33:49
Speaker 4: I think that there is there is there is there
• 33:51
Speaker 4: is a way to dissect a player's career and look
• 33:55
Speaker 4: at it and say, hmmm, he's thinking about another year,
• 34:00
Speaker 4: or he signing a contract another he signed in a
• 34:03
Speaker 4: three year contract with a team he made.
• 34:07
Speaker 2: You know, we don't think he can make three.
• 34:09
Speaker 4: Now, when you say that we don't think he can
• 34:12
Speaker 4: make three, that becomes an unfair assessment because he might
• 34:16
Speaker 4: be able to make three, but him making that three,
• 34:21
Speaker 4: how does he make that three? Because like I said
• 34:26
Speaker 4: my lap, I was gonna, I was gonna retire my
• 34:28
Speaker 4: last season with the Vikers.
• 34:30
  Speaker 2: They cut me.
• 34:30
Speaker 4: I go to New Orleans, So I was gonna So
• 34:33
Speaker 4: I was gonna retire after that last season.
• 34:37
Speaker 2: How many years total did you play? Twelve?
• 34:40
Speaker 4: So I'm I'm I'm sitting there thinking to myself that Okay,
• 34:44
Speaker 4: this is gonna be my last year. I get in,
• 34:50
Speaker 4: I get into that season and I realized that, you know,
• 34:53
Speaker 4: my my skill set is has has legitimately.
• 34:57
Speaker 2: Gone, like I had lost it and I couldn't.
• 35:01
Speaker 4: I couldn't cover the way that I had covered before,
• 35:04
Speaker 4: and I couldn't get to the ball the way that
• 35:05
Speaker 4: I could see it.
• 35:06
Speaker 2: And couldn't get to it. So I know I was
• 35:10
  Speaker 2: knowing that I couldn't.
• 35:14
Speaker 4: I didn't know prior to the season, but in the season,
• 35:17
Speaker 4: during about during just about midway through the season, I
• 35:20
Speaker 4: realized that, oh man, I'm I'm I'm stuck.
• 35:23
  Speaker 2: Now, I'm playing.
• 35:24
Speaker 4: I'm on the field trying trying to make plays and
• 35:27
  Speaker 4: I don't have I can't I can see plays and
• 35:31
Speaker 4: can't get there. And I knew for me it was
• 35:36
  Speaker 4: time to go. I just I wasn't gonna just I couldn't.
• 35:39
Speaker 4: I couldn't imagine like going in the middle of the season.
• 35:42
Speaker 4: So I was trying to get the season, get to
• 35:45
Speaker 4: the end of the season, and retire, which I did.
• 35:48
Speaker 2: Players know, a lot of a lot of players know.
• 35:51
Speaker 5: You know physically, yes, you know physical, but cognitively that
• 35:56
Speaker 5: might not show up for a while or you may
• 35:58
Speaker 5: ignore that part of it.
• 35:59
Speaker 2: And it made not for a quarterback who's primarily mental.
• 36:04
Speaker 4: Okay, like a lot of the past quarterbacks primarily was mental.
• 36:10
Speaker 4: As long as they knew who was going where, they
• 36:13
Speaker 4: figure out the coverage, know who's going in that hole,
• 36:16
Speaker 4: they could throw that ball. But the issue becomes the physicality.
• 36:21
Speaker 5: For them, the physicality, and I think somebody specifically just
• 36:25
Speaker 5: too Brett Farb. Not to say I'm not trying to
• 36:29
Speaker 5: accuse him of not being a smart quarterback, but I
• 36:31
Speaker 5: think the manner in which he played, he wasn't necessarily
• 36:34
Speaker 5: cerebral like a Peyton manny right.
• 36:37
Speaker 6: He played sort of like you know, backyard style.
• 36:41
Speaker 5: So even if he was having some sort of a
• 36:43
Speaker 5: cognitive decline during his play playing days, it may have
• 36:47
Speaker 5: not been recognizable just because of the style in which
• 36:51
Speaker 5: he played wasn't necessarily based off that. It was based
• 36:54
Speaker 5: off gunsling and I'm gonna just get it in there
• 36:56
Speaker 5: to see who open and throw the darn thing.
• 36:58
Speaker 4: I don't think not a single player on the Saints
• 37:05
Speaker 4: or not a single player even if with the Vikings,
• 37:07
Speaker 4: would have said that they thought, like, you know, I
• 37:11
Speaker 4: was having any issues.
• 37:13
  Speaker 2: You know, I could I.
• 37:15
Speaker 4: Couldn't make plays, you know, I don't, you know, because
• 37:19
Speaker 4: they because you could make a play, right, and if
• 37:23
Speaker 4: you make a play, the play that you miss nobody's
• 37:25
  Speaker 4: worried about that.
• 37:26
Speaker 2: They're not saying, oh, you know, he might be a
• 37:29
  Speaker 2: little too old.
• 37:29
Speaker 4: Now, he can't make that play as long as you're
• 37:31
Speaker 4: out there, as long as you're making the tackle or maybe.
• 37:35
Speaker 2: Getting to a ball. But it's bigger than that. And
• 37:39
Speaker 2: and and you know the catches is you know.
• 37:44
Speaker 4: The play, the play that you can't make that you
• 37:47
Speaker 4: you you know you know now whether or not anybody
• 37:51
Speaker 4: else knows, now, I guarantee there was nobody else knew.
• 37:55
Speaker 4: They just figured, you know, Okay, they threw the curl
• 37:57
Speaker 4: route and Carl tackled it.
• 37:58
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 37:59
Speaker 5: But back to the question is that should there be
• 38:01
Speaker 5: a capital NFL careers?
• 38:04
Speaker 4: Well, again, if I give you example, I signed a
• 38:07
Speaker 4: three year deal and in two years, you're thinking, look, hey,
• 38:10
Speaker 4: we think you need to probably sit down. And and
• 38:13
Speaker 4: the and the way contracts are signed are set up
• 38:16
Speaker 4: is the most money is at the end of that contract.
• 38:19
Speaker 4: I'm trying to get to the end of that contract.
• 38:21
Speaker 4: So now I don't know if you're trying to cheat
• 38:23
Speaker 4: me out of my last contract or you're doing this
• 38:27
  Speaker 4: for me.
• 38:28
Speaker 2: But the problem is I ain't gonna do it for me.
• 38:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, you you you are likely going to be the
• 38:34
Speaker 4: person who's gonna have to do it for me.
• 38:36
Speaker 2: But I'm chasing that last contract, you know, that last you.
• 38:38
Speaker 4: Know, they gave me five dollars, ten dollars and one
• 38:41
Speaker 4: hundred dollars in that last deal. Man, I'm getting to
• 38:44
Speaker 4: that last deal. Even if I'm fifty five, you know,
• 38:47
Speaker 4: and I got half a leg. As long as I
• 38:49
Speaker 4: can make the team, I'm gonna play. That's That's the
• 38:52
Speaker 4: unfortunate thing about football and how players think.
• 38:56
Speaker 6: And like I said, I mentioned this last week.
• 38:59
Speaker 5: I mean, this is the game, unfortunately, whether you like
• 39:02
Speaker 5: it or not, this is the game, and this is
• 39:04
Speaker 5: what it is, and this can be a result, just
• 39:06
Speaker 5: like being a boxer.
• 39:07
Speaker 2: You know, this is it.
• 39:10
Speaker 4: And and we and we've seen it and and and
• 39:15
Speaker 4: I'm gonna give it a kind of as an analogy,
• 39:17
Speaker 4: just to to to to paint this picture.
• 39:21
Speaker 2: Everybody who loved Muhammad Ali.
• 39:23
Speaker 4: Or hated him in his last fights, you watched.
• 39:29
  Speaker 2: Him and you.
• 39:31
Speaker 4: And you knew, you knew, you could see the decline,
• 39:37
Speaker 4: you could see the issues that were taking place.
• 39:42
Speaker 2: And everybody felt bad. The same thing is true in football.
• 39:47
Speaker 4: You just don't get the chance to actually see it
• 39:50
Speaker 4: because the player can make a play. He can make
• 39:52
Speaker 4: a tackle, he can pick up a he can get
• 39:54
Speaker 4: an interception, he can get a fumble, he can catch
• 39:56
Speaker 4: a ball, he can run a touchdown, he can block somebody.
• 40:01
Speaker 4: But what you can't see is the struggle in his
• 40:04
Speaker 4: own mind, and the struggle even that can be physical,
• 40:09
Speaker 4: that he could have mentally and physically, you know, and
• 40:12
  Speaker 4: you just don't.
• 40:14
Speaker 2: You don't see that.
• 40:15
Speaker 4: And because you don't see that, the idea of you
• 40:18
Speaker 4: trying to cut somebody's salary or cut somebody's career off,
• 40:23
Speaker 4: saying you need to stop, this is your last season,
• 40:25
Speaker 4: we think that the.
• 40:27
Speaker 5: Same because again it can just be you know, maybe
• 40:31
Speaker 5: just having a bad day or bad year and you're
• 40:33
Speaker 5: gonna bounce back. So I can see that, I can
• 40:36
Speaker 5: see a bunch of problems with that. Yes, it's just
• 40:39
  Speaker 5: that you know.
• 40:39
Speaker 4: There would be a good now outside medical observation and
• 40:48
Speaker 4: decision could be good. You can't have you can't you
• 40:51
Speaker 4: can't have anybody that's connected to the teams, no team
• 40:55
Speaker 4: doctors or nothing like that. The potential could be. You know,
• 40:59
Speaker 4: and I and so let me ask this question to you.
• 41:03
Speaker 4: Does it matter to you if I'm physically able to play,
• 41:06
Speaker 4: or if I or mentally because I can be physical,
• 41:11
Speaker 4: see to me, I was physically not capable or continuous
• 41:16
Speaker 4: could I wasn't physically able to continue play at a
• 41:18
Speaker 4: level that I that I was comfortable at. Yeah, then
• 41:23
Speaker 4: there's the other player that's that's mentally unable to play.
• 41:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, how do we do? I think ownership and NFL's
• 41:32
Speaker 5: time after time. You know, you can take a guy
• 41:34
Speaker 5: like Antonio Brown who's obviously having some sort of mental
• 41:38
Speaker 5: health issues that hey, if you can strap it up,
• 41:41
Speaker 5: you can go. So I think they've they've said like, look,
• 41:44
Speaker 5: if you're physically able to pay, you're going to play again.
• 41:47
Speaker 5: And when you start talking about cognitive decline, when you
• 41:50
Speaker 5: start talking about mental health issues, those can be very touchy.
• 41:53
Speaker 5: So I don't know, even from a hippo standpoint, like
• 41:56
Speaker 5: how do you get around those issues? How do you
• 41:59
Speaker 5: what's that assessment looking like? That assessment degree is going
• 42:02
Speaker 5: to be different for different guys. So again, I think
• 42:06
Speaker 5: it's just, unfortunately is the nature of the game. And
• 42:09
Speaker 5: I think players now, because we've seen a lot of
• 42:11
Speaker 5: players retire early, they're thinking about that. So you know,
• 42:14
Speaker 5: maybe it's something that's gonna just they'll self manage that
• 42:17
Speaker 5: as opposed to being told. And with the money now too,
• 42:22
Speaker 5: if you manage your right, you don't have to play
• 42:24
Speaker 5: as long as you did back in the day.
• 42:26
Speaker 4: Right right, And but again if if you, if you,
• 42:30
Speaker 4: if you're leaving, who who's gonna walk away from five million.
• 42:36
Speaker 2: Dollars but for your last year.
• 42:38
Speaker 5: But the thing is, if you got thirty stacked up,
• 42:41
Speaker 5: then maybe maybe maybe it's maybe it's a similar decision.
• 42:45
Speaker 4: See, I would I would make the case just because
• 42:49
Speaker 4: I think nobody wants to leave. And this should be
• 42:52
Speaker 4: used to be something everybody will say, you don't leave
• 42:54
Speaker 4: money on the table, right, Like you can't leave that
• 42:55
Speaker 4: money on the table, and if it's if because it
• 42:59
Speaker 4: was there for you.
• 43:00
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 43:01
Speaker 4: And like my biggest contract with the Vikings is the
• 43:03
Speaker 4: year they cut me. And the reason that they cut
• 43:06
Speaker 4: me was because they didn't want to pay me, you know.
• 43:09
Speaker 4: And so you have that that that's part of the
• 43:13
Speaker 4: issue too, is we can get maybe we can get
• 43:16
Speaker 4: Hollis out of here and not have to pay him
• 43:18
Speaker 4: and we're clean because you know, we think he's mentally
• 43:22
  Speaker 4: or physically.
• 43:22
Speaker 2: Unable to play. That's the thing.
• 43:24
  Speaker 5: So it's it's a bunch of issues that it's not
• 43:26
Speaker 5: necessarily gonna be clean. Plus so I don't know how
• 43:28
Speaker 5: you would even approach that because I could see lawsuit
• 43:31
Speaker 5: after lawsuit after lawsuit.
• 43:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, and and when you start throwing the agent in there,
• 43:37
Speaker 4: that's yeah, because the agent agent's not He don't want
• 43:41
Speaker 4: to give up the money either. He want that, yes
• 43:44
Speaker 4: for sure, which which leads me to I got it.
• 43:48
Speaker 4: I got a message, a text message today from from
• 43:53
Speaker 4: a buddy of mine that was actually and I think
• 43:56
Speaker 4: he's over in Wisconsin and Viking fan and Tommy Kramer
• 44:05
Speaker 4: has just announced that he went to the doctor, had
• 44:11
Speaker 4: to check up and has and they're giving him two
• 44:15
  Speaker 4: to ten years.
• 44:18
  Speaker 6: Ten years.
• 44:19
Speaker 4: You said, yes, two to ten years between that time,
• 44:23
Speaker 4: two to live now. One of the things I had
• 44:29
Speaker 4: said off air to Hollis is like, I don't want
• 44:32
Speaker 4: to You know, most people I think know Tommy that
• 44:37
Speaker 4: if you're old enough, you know Tommy Kramer. You know
• 44:39
Speaker 4: kind of his history quarterback for the Vikings.
• 44:44
Speaker 2: It was a great quarterback, won some great games.
• 44:50
Speaker 4: Came after after Frank Tarkington, and you know was you
• 44:55
Speaker 4: know good scrambler was.
• 44:57
Speaker 2: Good, good, good, tough, player.
• 45:02
Speaker 4: He but he struggled with with with with alcohol and
• 45:07
Speaker 4: for for a long time. And and the guy that
• 45:14
Speaker 4: I'm going to, the guy that I'm going to Minnesota
• 45:17
Speaker 4: with Tommy stays with them, and so Tommy will probably
• 45:23
Speaker 4: be he'll probably be in Alaska as well. They take
• 45:28
Speaker 4: they pretty much take care of him and you know,
• 45:31
Speaker 4: have him out and about, you know, doing different signings
• 45:34
Speaker 4: and stuff like that.
• 45:38
Speaker 2: And it's it's hard for me to know, it's hard
• 45:40
  Speaker 2: for me.
• 45:40
Speaker 4: To to try to dissect, you know, this situation because
• 45:49
Speaker 4: I feel comfortable in thinking that I know that the
• 45:52
Speaker 4: cause has been you know, I think has been the
• 45:55
Speaker 4: whole alcohol for such a long time. And like I said,
• 45:59
  Speaker 4: he just stopped and he's I think it's been a
• 46:01
Speaker 4: year now since he's since he's had a drink.
• 46:03
Speaker 9: And he moves, he moves slow.
• 46:08
Speaker 5: And he you know, he So let me ask you this,
• 46:11
Speaker 5: during that time, did they have because I know they
• 46:13
Speaker 5: had like the drug rehab programs through the league and everything. Now,
• 46:17
Speaker 5: did they have those sort of programs back then?
• 46:19
  Speaker 2: No, they didn't.
• 46:20
Speaker 4: And and and there were there were a lot of
• 46:24
Speaker 4: guys who who who drank a lot, and you could
• 46:28
Speaker 4: make the case and I'll make the case that the
• 46:31
Speaker 4: best cornerback that I've ever seen and ever been on
• 46:35
Speaker 4: the field with is a guy by the name of
• 46:38
Speaker 4: Isaac Holton. I've said his name before on the show.
• 46:41
Speaker 4: He was from Alcorn. He shut Jerry Rice down in
• 46:45
Speaker 4: in college, and he he had a huge drinking problem.
• 46:50
Speaker 4: I'm not sure you know if he's still if he
• 46:53
Speaker 4: still has it or not, you know, And there's tons
• 46:57
Speaker 4: and tons of stories that I could tell about it,
• 46:59
  Speaker 4: but I don't. I don't want to go into that
• 47:02
Speaker 4: because because at the end of the day, these types
• 47:05
Speaker 4: of players who are so good and and and so great,
• 47:11
Speaker 4: you know, and when when you get yourself caught up
• 47:13
Speaker 4: into that alcohol and and.
• 47:16
Speaker 2: It captures you, you know, and it consumes you, you.
• 47:23
Speaker 4: Know, and you know, when you when you start talking
• 47:26
Speaker 4: about just drinking any kind of alcohol, like you know,
• 47:30
Speaker 4: you're not gonna drink the same drink twice. When you
• 47:34
Speaker 4: start talking about doing that and and making that as
• 47:37
Speaker 4: a competition in in in the bar, that's you know,
• 47:40
Speaker 4: that's a that's a challenging thing, you know. And you know,
• 47:46
Speaker 4: but with Tommy's situation, you know what bothers me is
• 47:51
Speaker 4: it really makes me kind of funny inside is is
• 47:56
Speaker 4: because like he finally decided to stop, you know, and
• 48:02
Speaker 4: and like I said, he's been he's been sober now
• 48:04
Speaker 4: and hadn't had to drink for a year. And then
• 48:07
Speaker 4: now now you turn around and here we are in this.
• 48:11
Speaker 5: Kind of situation and you know, and maybe him stopping
• 48:15
Speaker 5: it can maybe prolonged you know, his life. But I
• 48:19
Speaker 5: think now, I mean, I think it's good that, you know,
• 48:22
Speaker 5: not only just professional sports, but I think industries, you know,
• 48:27
Speaker 5: throughout at least this country are recognizing that people who
• 48:30
Speaker 5: are suffering from substance use disorder, that this is a disease,
• 48:34
Speaker 5: this is a disorder, this is something that necessarily they're
• 48:37
Speaker 5: choosing to go at least this deep end, and they
• 48:39
Speaker 5: can actually you know, get some help. So I think
• 48:42
Speaker 5: that unfortunately, he was just probably in a time where
• 48:45
Speaker 5: you know, that's just wasn't the prevailing thought, you know.
• 48:50
Speaker 4: And yeah, yeah, because you don't you don't know that
• 48:52
Speaker 4: that's where you're heading. When he first took a few drinks.
• 48:56
Speaker 4: I'm going to make the case he did not think
• 48:58
Speaker 4: that this would be how he would be ending his life,
• 49:02
Speaker 4: you know, And I know, for men and the help
• 49:04
Speaker 4: wasn't available right right in the middle of it, right,
• 49:06
Speaker 4: and yes, exactly, you know, and again there wasn't coaches.
• 49:11
Speaker 4: Coaches wasn't complaining about him because he could he could play.
• 49:15
Speaker 4: Like they didn't complain about him taking a nap instead
• 49:18
Speaker 4: of not seeing the meetings because they knew he was
• 49:21
Speaker 4: a smart guy. He could figure it out. He would,
• 49:23
Speaker 4: he would get into film work, he could do that on.
• 49:25
  Speaker 2: His own time.
• 49:26
Speaker 5: And see, that's the that And just to relate it
• 49:28
Speaker 5: with like kind of the breath farb comment, that's the
• 49:30
Speaker 5: same thing, like if you can play, sometimes a lot
• 49:33
Speaker 5: of things just get overlooked, and those things don't get addressed.
• 49:37
Speaker 5: Maybe and not to say not to you know, a
• 49:39
Speaker 5: sign blame to anybody, but those things often get overlooked
• 49:44
Speaker 5: when you just can play, when you're a good guy,
• 49:46
  Speaker 5: when you're a good player. And I think now we're
• 49:48
Speaker 5: at a point in time where those things aren't being overlooked,
• 49:52
Speaker 5: where you have to address that.
• 49:53
Speaker 6: If you see it, you have to.
• 49:54
Speaker 5: Say something, whether it's a mental health issue, whether it's
• 49:57
Speaker 5: an SUD issue or something to that effect.
• 50:00
  Speaker 4: Yeah, And and I know, like I said, I didn't,
• 50:05
  Speaker 4: I didn't I didn't drink but I didn't drink. And
• 50:07
Speaker 4: then I started drinking a little bit in college. But
• 50:10
Speaker 4: when I got to the league, I mean that picked up.
• 50:13
Speaker 4: Like and I was a guy who you know, was
• 50:15
Speaker 4: a non drinker, non smoker, all that, and but I
• 50:20
Speaker 4: got to a point where, like you know, I was,
• 50:22
Speaker 4: I was drinking and I was drinking heavy and and
• 50:24
Speaker 4: we talked a little bit in the studio prior to
• 50:28
Speaker 4: coming on air. Some of that I think comes with
• 50:34
Speaker 4: the atmosphere and in sports, and let's just say entertainment, yeah,
• 50:41
Speaker 4: because sports basically is an entertainment.
• 50:44
Speaker 2: And then what what you do.
• 50:46
Speaker 4: After you know, basically almost every day after practice, basically
• 50:52
Speaker 4: you go go somewhere to go have that happy hour,
• 50:55
Speaker 4: have you a few drinks, and then intent is to
• 50:58
Speaker 4: have a few drinks.
• 50:59
Speaker 2: You got and then all of a sudden, you got
• 51:00
Speaker 2: seven or eight guys in there. That's your buddies.
• 51:03
Speaker 4: And you stay there longer You're gonna keep drinking there.
• 51:06
Speaker 4: Next thing you know, you you know, you're you're driving home.
• 51:09
Speaker 4: You had quite a few to drink. Probably don't eat dinner,
• 51:14
Speaker 4: fall asleep on the couch, wake up, nibble on something,
• 51:16
Speaker 4: then go to bed up and do the same thing,
• 51:18
Speaker 4: and you be and that routine becomes normal.
• 51:23
Speaker 2: Like there was, there were certain days that you know,
• 51:25
Speaker 2: and we didn't do. We didn't do. We weren't big.
• 51:27
Speaker 4: On Friday nights and Saturday nights because you had games
• 51:31
Speaker 4: on Sunday. We was using in a hotel on Saturday night,
• 51:34
Speaker 4: so Sunday night was a big night in Minneapolis.
• 51:39
Speaker 2: But we would do happy hour. Happy hour was the
• 51:41
Speaker 2: big thing. So now you come, we're coming straight from practice.
• 51:45
Speaker 4: We're drinking, going home, eating, repeating those kinds of things
• 51:51
  Speaker 4: and never even.
• 51:52
Speaker 2: Paying attention to it.
• 51:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, like I said, unfortunately, man, you just get caught
• 51:56
Speaker 5: up in that lifestyle. And again, I think that certain
• 51:59
Speaker 5: industries are conducive to that because when you look at
• 52:01
Speaker 5: you know, like you said, entertainments, you look at sports,
• 52:04
Speaker 5: when you even look at you know, high stress professions
• 52:06
Speaker 5: like you know, you look at law enforcement, teachers, lawyers,
• 52:09
Speaker 5: different things of that nature, you'll find a lot of
• 52:11
Speaker 5: alcohol and sud within those industries just because of the
• 52:15
Speaker 5: stress levels. And you need, not necessarily need, but there's
• 52:18
Speaker 5: a need for some individuals for that release.
• 52:22
Speaker 4: See, I think I think, I think you were right.
• 52:24
Speaker 4: I think there is a need. You think I think
• 52:27
Speaker 4: it is actually a need to like get away from it.
• 52:33
Speaker 4: And I and I'll even make this, I felt like
• 52:35
Speaker 4: when we would when we would go to happy Hour,
• 52:38
Speaker 4: we were probably like about two blocks away from from
• 52:42
Speaker 4: this hotel bar. We would go, and it was it
• 52:46
Speaker 4: was like to forget practice and all. You know what
• 52:49
Speaker 4: I'm saying, It was just it was just to go
• 52:52
Speaker 4: and just kind of all of a sudden create this
• 52:55
  Speaker 4: this distance from.
• 52:57
Speaker 2: Who you were, what what people thought you were.
• 53:01
Speaker 4: So being there and Happy Hour a lot of times
• 53:04
Speaker 4: were less people there. Then you get on your weekends
• 53:08
Speaker 4: and then and we would go on a regular basis,
• 53:12
Speaker 4: so what would what was good about that people were
• 53:14
Speaker 4: used to seeing us in there, so they didn't quote
• 53:17
Speaker 4: bother you coming up asking you questions or wanting an
• 53:22
Speaker 4: autograph or whatever, because you try to because what you
• 53:26
Speaker 4: want is you want away from all that. When when
• 53:29
Speaker 4: we were going, we were trying to go. We weren't
• 53:31
Speaker 4: trying to go to the biggest place.
• 53:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, you go to the chills.
• 53:34
Speaker 4: We want to go to a chill spot and just
• 53:37
Speaker 4: chill out and not have to deal with a lot
• 53:39
Speaker 4: of people talking about last week's game, asking about this
• 53:44
Speaker 4: week's game, asking about such and such.
• 53:46
Speaker 5: And that's crazy because that's the same thing that happens
• 53:48
Speaker 5: with like law enforcement. It's exact same thing that happens
• 53:50
Speaker 5: with lawyers in different industries. It's the exactly you want
• 53:53
Speaker 5: to get away from it, and you cut on that
• 53:55
Speaker 5: little group and you're getting drinks and everything to sort
• 53:57
Speaker 5: of get away from it, but you ain't really getting
• 53:59
Speaker 5: away now, you know what I.
• 54:00
Speaker 2: Mean, because there's really no place. There's really no place
• 54:03
  Speaker 2: to go.
• 54:04
Speaker 5: But like I said, I think the positive in this
• 54:07
Speaker 5: if there is a positive in this story. Number one,
• 54:09
Speaker 5: like he found sobriety, and number two, like I said,
• 54:13
Speaker 5: not only just the NFL and sports, but I think
• 54:16
Speaker 5: most industries now have some sort of protocol for, you know,
• 54:20
Speaker 5: individual suffering with substitute disorder.
• 54:22
Speaker 4: He lives with with with Buddy Becker, and Buddy Becker
• 54:25
Speaker 4: is is the gentleman who's taken us to Alaska on
• 54:31
Speaker 4: this trip. So hats off to him. And like I said,
• 54:35
Speaker 4: he lives, he keeps Tommy lives with them. They take
• 54:40
  Speaker 4: care of him.
• 54:41
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 54:41
Speaker 5: Just pray, like I said, we just pray for him
• 54:43
Speaker 5: to get better. Yeah, hopefully he can, he can go.
• 54:45
Speaker 2: Longer, hopefully. So Yeah, hopefully so.
• 54:49
Speaker 5: But I wanted to mention, you know, like I said,
• 54:52
Speaker 5: we talk about obviously, you know WVU got a big
• 54:55
Speaker 5: win this weekend. They needed it, Marshall. They took a thumping,
• 54:58
Speaker 5: but it wasn't bad as we thought. And talk about Colorado.
• 55:03
Speaker 5: I don't know if you saw the game.
• 55:04
  Speaker 2: I was up.
• 55:05
Speaker 6: I watched Terry Bidders, probably the best game of the season.
• 55:08
Speaker 5: And again, just speaking of the n C double A,
• 55:11
Speaker 5: I hope y'all don't mess this up. Travis Hunter is
• 55:16
Speaker 5: the best college I don't care if they don't win
• 55:18
Speaker 5: another game. He's the He's the best college football player
• 55:21
  Speaker 5: right now. He's number one. I don't I don't care.
• 55:25
Speaker 5: It ain't a quarterback. It ain't nobody better than him
• 55:27
Speaker 5: right now. He got not only did he catch a
• 55:31
Speaker 5: hundred yards receiving, plus he made the game winning force fumble.
• 55:34
Speaker 5: N ot that kid is the man.
• 55:36
Speaker 4: Well, and I was gonna say to your point, the
• 55:42
Speaker 4: fact that he's playing both ways affciently yet high level,
• 55:48
Speaker 4: high level, Yeah, game winning situations on both sides of
• 55:52
Speaker 4: the ball. Yes, like he can make the game winning
• 55:54
Speaker 4: catch and he can make the game winning and you
• 55:57
Speaker 4: can argue that he actually did.
• 55:59
Speaker 5: He didn't make the game when he catched, but he
• 56:01
Speaker 5: actually sets it up. He says he had the long pass.
• 56:03
Speaker 5: It was like a forty fifty yard pass from Sanders.
• 56:06
Speaker 5: And then turn around on defense and made the game
• 56:08
Speaker 5: win a defensive play.
• 56:09
Speaker 4: Well, and and and I'm gonna I'll throw a little
• 56:13
  Speaker 4: bit of a wrench in there. I'm I'm I'm thinking
• 56:20
Speaker 4: that the quarterback is quarterback.
• 56:23
  Speaker 2: Is good too.
• 56:23
Speaker 5: No, he sh door center is the best quarterback in
• 56:26
Speaker 5: the country to me. But I think what what Travis
• 56:31
Speaker 5: Hunter is doing is oh im precedent. No, yeah, you
• 56:34
Speaker 5: have to you have I can see where they could
• 56:36
Speaker 5: both be on the stage. But the quarterback he would
• 56:39
Speaker 5: have to win. Yes, they gotta go, They gotta go undefeated,
• 56:44
Speaker 5: you know what I mean? You so, But so I
• 56:46
Speaker 5: think the standard, unfortunately with fairy unfair is a little
• 56:49
Speaker 5: different for Sanders as opposed to Hunter.
• 56:52
Speaker 4: We've never we've never seen this, We've not seen this
• 56:57
Speaker 4: in the modern air and we've not and I and
• 57:00
Speaker 4: for sure it's never been done this good.
• 57:03
Speaker 5: Yeah, one hundred percent, Because I think even like Charles Woodson,
• 57:06
Speaker 5: he was a defensive player, play some offense, but I
• 57:08
Speaker 5: don't think he was like every snap offensive guy.
• 57:10
Speaker 4: He came in on packages. Yeah, and and and that's
• 57:13
Speaker 4: a different thing. Yeah, I mean you are part of
• 57:16
  Speaker 4: the offense. Yeah, he's he's a receiver, he's starting receiver.
• 57:19
Speaker 2: Yeah. And you are a major part of the defense
• 57:21
Speaker 2: starting he's shutting. He's a shut down corner.
• 57:24
  Speaker 6: That's I mean, I ain't can tackle.
• 57:26
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, you know so, like I just because we
• 57:29
  Speaker 5: talked about the n C double A and that's that's
• 57:31
Speaker 5: just a terrible organization in my mind. It has been
• 57:33
Speaker 5: for a long time. And I hope they don't screw
• 57:36
Speaker 5: this up. So I hope the Heisman Committee. Are you
• 57:40
Speaker 5: staying up late watching the games? Please tell me you are.
• 57:46
  Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think you don't trust it. I
• 57:48
  Speaker 2: don't trust it. I don't trust it. I don't trust it.
• 57:52
Speaker 4: I think they've got all kinds of excuses that are
• 57:55
Speaker 4: none are justified. Yeah, but I think that they'll come
• 57:58
Speaker 4: up with some excuse because because it's not Notre Dame,
• 58:03
  Speaker 4: because it's.
• 58:04
Speaker 5: Not USC, because none of that, Because the first four
• 58:08
Speaker 5: games of this season has a right now he can
• 58:10
Speaker 5: fall off a clip, but as a right now.
• 58:12
Speaker 4: He ain't following the land slide he ain't falling off.
• 58:16
Speaker 4: The only thing that could happen, God forbid that.
• 58:18
  Speaker 2: He gets hurt.
• 58:19
Speaker 5: Okay, but the only thing because he ain't falling off.
• 58:21
Speaker 5: You you're right about that, because right now it ain't.
• 58:24
Speaker 5: I don't see a vote going to nobody else.
• 58:26
Speaker 2: There shouldn't be a vote going anywhere. He is it.
• 58:28
Speaker 2: You can't vote for anybody, Elyes.
• 58:30
  Speaker 6: I just don't see it.
• 58:32
Speaker 5: I mean, he having one hundred plus yards, got receiving,
• 58:35
Speaker 5: got interception forst fumbles, tackles, doing it all. He probably
• 58:39
Speaker 5: played special teams. If coach Prome.
• 58:41
Speaker 4: Lddy Dion coach Prime was one of the greatest players
• 58:50
  Speaker 4: in the NFL.
• 58:51
Speaker 2: And part of that too was because he literally could
• 58:56
Speaker 2: do anything, could do anything. He could do anything.
• 59:00
Speaker 4: Now you're talking about somebody who's taking that do anything,
• 59:03
Speaker 4: like like you said, playing a few plays on offense.
• 59:07
Speaker 2: You know, maybe you can put Dion on a couple
• 59:10
Speaker 2: of players in offense. Yea da dah. But you're talking
• 59:12
Speaker 2: about he coming off the field.
• 59:14
Speaker 6: He ain't coming off the field. Coacht A special team.
• 59:17
Speaker 4: Special team is the only time he come and he
• 59:18
Speaker 4: got time and he.
• 59:20
Speaker 5: Probably got a force all special teams. He probably want
• 59:23
Speaker 5: to go return kicks and punts and stuff like that,
• 59:25
Speaker 5: and probably could do it well, and probably could do
• 59:26
Speaker 5: it well. You know, It's just I just hope this guy,
• 59:30
Speaker 5: I hope this organization don't mess it up because we
• 59:32
Speaker 5: talk about suits and I see a lot of suits
• 59:35
  Speaker 5: on that committee.
• 59:36
Speaker 4: Well, and unfortunately, like you said, this is because it's
• 59:40
Speaker 4: not even a question.
• 59:41
  Speaker 2: It's not a question.
• 59:42
  Speaker 4: I mean, there's there's there's no You can't bring anybody's
• 59:45
Speaker 4: stats to the table. Say you could have the you
• 59:49
Speaker 4: could have the most outstanding offensive stats that you that
• 59:51
  Speaker 4: you want.
• 59:52
Speaker 2: Where's your defense? What are your defensive stat said?
• 59:55
Speaker 4: You could have seven interceptions, you can have fifteen socks.
• 59:59
Speaker 2: Where's your offense at?
• 1:00:00
Speaker 5: And I hope that we get back to a point
• 1:00:03
Speaker 5: where we're saying this is the best player, not the
• 1:00:07
Speaker 5: best player on the best team, because.
• 1:00:09
Speaker 2: I think for it and again that valid point.
• 1:00:11
Speaker 5: And not to hate on Alabama, but I think a
• 1:00:13
Speaker 5: lot of those Heisman winners from Alabama they were just
• 1:00:15
Speaker 5: simply the best player on the best team, not necessarily.
• 1:00:18
Speaker 5: I mean, even I would say Derrick Henry the year
• 1:00:20
Speaker 5: he wanted Christian McCaffrey was clearly the best college football
• 1:00:23
Speaker 5: player in the country. Geno Toretta Marshall Falk was clearly
• 1:00:27
Speaker 5: the best player, a football player in the country. So
• 1:00:30
Speaker 5: we need to get back to who's the best football team?
• 1:00:32
Speaker 5: Excuse me, who the best player? Who's the best player?
• 1:00:36
Speaker 5: Even there's an argument for Orlanto pay So he's an
• 1:00:39
Speaker 5: office a line. When we was up, he was pure dominant.
• 1:00:41
Speaker 5: So we got to get back to that, you know
• 1:00:43
Speaker 5: what I'm saying. So hope, hopefully, hopefully we can do that.
• 1:00:47
Speaker 4: And let's let's all remember as we get ready to
• 1:00:49
Speaker 4: get out of here that Hollis Lewis brought this up,
• 1:00:52
Speaker 4: so he'll be with so so we'll all be waiting
• 1:00:55
Speaker 4: to see how this plays out at the end because
• 1:00:57
  Speaker 4: I think he's got a valid point. All Right, I'm
