Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: To teas in a pod which Teddy Mellencamp and camera judge.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hi, guys, welcome to another episode of The twat Seat.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Today we have on Macy Nealy. She burst into the
- 0:21Speaker 2: center of pop culture when Hulu's The Secret Lives of
- 0:24Speaker 2: Some Mormon Wives took the world wide storm. She has
- 0:28Speaker 2: a memoir out now. It's called Told You So. It's
- 0:32Speaker 2: in bookstores now, so you can get it because what
- 0:36Speaker 2: we're seeing on Hulu is barely scratching the service. By
- 0:40Speaker 2: the way, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming.
- 0:42Speaker 3: On Hulu and season three is about to come out, right,
- 0:45Speaker 3: don't they come out pretty soon? So I remember when
- 0:48Speaker 3: we interviewed them earlier in the year and it was
- 0:51Speaker 3: season two, they were already filming season three. Like now,
- 0:54Speaker 3: they turn it around really quick. It's a quick turns
- 0:57Speaker 3: for sure. Now this port she has gone through so
- 0:59Speaker 3: much in her.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Young life, I know, and we're about to.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Hear all about it, enough to write a book.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Enough to write a book. But Secret Lives of Mormon
- 1:08Speaker 2: Wives starts airing November thirteenth, Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Right around the corner.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Are we going to recap it again?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got to so good.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Hello, Hi, how are you guys.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Hi?
- 1:24Speaker 3: See, it's been a while since we talked to you.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's been a minute, but it feels like yesterday at
- 1:29Speaker 1: the same time.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, the congratulations on your new book, thank you, I'm
- 1:33Speaker 3: so excited.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And congratulations on your baby.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Thank you. I know, I had my husband take her
- 1:39Speaker 1: out today because I'm like, she's a little too crazy.
- 1:41Speaker 2: We gottata when.
- 1:44Speaker 3: We saw you last year.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Pregnant.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yes, she's two months, so she's little. She's little, but
- 1:50Speaker 1: like I thought, she's such a big girl.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Now, remind me, didn't you tell me when I met
- 1:54Speaker 3: you last that your mom lives in Kodo?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yes, gott to hook us.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I know, I like I lived there my whole my
- 2:03Speaker 1: whole life, Like I grew up there, Like I think
- 2:04Speaker 1: we lived there when I was seven and then my
- 2:06Speaker 1: parents are still there.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Oh my right.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like so crazy. So I was actually just
- 2:12Speaker 1: there for.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Like would she be good for housewives?
- 2:17Speaker 1: It's hard to say, because I feel like my mom,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I think it looks in the beginning she'd probably be
- 2:22Speaker 1: a little stiff on camera, just because I don't know.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I think the perception would maybe scare her, like not
- 2:27Speaker 1: looking at like looking a certain way on TV. But
- 2:29Speaker 1: I think like after a while she'd be good. She'd
- 2:31Speaker 1: probably feel like me where she's kind of like more
- 2:33Speaker 1: chill like probably not like directly in drama, but like
- 2:37Speaker 1: I thought she'd be pretty good though.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I don't know she'd be a good narrator.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, she'd like the narrator for sure. My mom like
- 2:43Speaker 1: loves telling stories that Letty can tell you a story
- 2:45Speaker 1: about any topics. I feel like she would be a
- 2:47Speaker 1: good narrator.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Put her together with my husband, they would just talk
- 2:50Speaker 3: for hours.
- 2:51Speaker 1: No, it's true.
- 2:52Speaker 3: They're casting now, so she's interested in let me know.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'll tell her because at first I
- 2:57Speaker 1: brought her, brought it up to her after we did
- 2:59Speaker 1: the podcast, He's like, yeah, i'd be interested, But I'm like,
- 3:01Speaker 1: we'll see, I'll see. I should have her at least
- 3:04Speaker 1: try out and think it'd be funny.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Well, I'll send you my phone number and she can
- 3:07Speaker 3: give me a call.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yeah, no, yeah, send it to me. I'll tell her
- 3:10Speaker 1: to at least adition for it, so it could be fun.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Plus, i'd love to meet her. I wonder if we
- 3:13Speaker 3: have any mutual friends. I have so many friends that
- 3:15Speaker 3: live in Codo.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Well, yeah, probably used to, like in code, like, I
- 3:18Speaker 1: don't know if you go to the country club at all,
- 3:19Speaker 1: but I used to.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I used to live there.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's like perfect.
- 3:24Speaker 3: What's your mom's name, Cindy Sindy Sunday. Yes, okay, before
- 3:31Speaker 3: we get into I know.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And of course we're going to talk about your book,
- 3:33Speaker 2: because I mean it's heartbreaking but also incredible you gone through.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Let's talk a little bit about Dancing with the Stars.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Do sing Whitney and Jin make you want to go
- 3:46Speaker 2: on next season?
- 3:47Speaker 1: You guys, I would embarrass myself, so I feel like, no,
- 3:51Speaker 1: like I feel like watching them even more so made
- 3:53Speaker 1: me not really want to do it, just because I'm like,
- 3:55Speaker 1: they're so good that I think I'd go on and
- 3:57Speaker 1: I'd feel like embarrassing.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So that's how I feel like I wouldn't.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I feel like if I got the opportunity, I wouldn't
- 4:03Speaker 1: be like absolutely not, like I would definitely consider and
- 4:06Speaker 1: try it, but I would be like so anxious and
- 4:08Speaker 1: like so scared because I'm not a dancer, Like I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: not good at that at all.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Now, you were there at Dance with the Stars for
- 4:14Speaker 3: opening night, I went there to support a friend last season.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Were you shocked when you saw how small?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yes?
- 4:21Speaker 1: I was like, wait, Like I thought, like when you
- 4:23Speaker 1: see it on TV, it looks so much bigger, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: like you get there and you're like, wait, it's like small,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and like the songs were shorter than I thought, so
- 4:30Speaker 1: I was like, at least there's that, like they don't
- 4:31Speaker 1: have to like a full three minute thing.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It's like one minute, right, one minute. Yeah, And you
- 4:36Speaker 3: probably sat right in the front by those things that
- 4:38Speaker 3: explode confetti out they let their ear drums out, yes, And.
- 4:43Speaker 1: He kept telling the guy I would tell us, He's like, hey,
- 4:45Speaker 1: this is going to go off. Yeah, but I always
- 4:48Speaker 1: forget every time go off, And I was like yeah.
- 4:52Speaker 3: And then they're just the stuff that goes on in
- 4:54Speaker 3: between people dancing, Like it's like sets come and people
- 5:00Speaker 3: are flying from the ceiling and it's it's.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Just fun to watch. Like when I went in person,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I was like, wait, I love this, Like this is
- 5:08Speaker 1: so fun. So I don't know. I I thought it
- 5:10Speaker 1: was a great time. I feel like it made me
- 5:12Speaker 1: more nervous for them, Like I felt so anxious before
- 5:15Speaker 1: they started. I was like, oh my gosh, like, I
- 5:18Speaker 1: feel like I was living it with them, but I
- 5:19Speaker 1: could you imagine being I voted for both of them.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You guys know, I love the Riders, so I think
- 5:26Speaker 1: I can't like take a side. I mean, I love
- 5:29Speaker 1: both of them like me and when you have had
- 5:30Speaker 1: our differences, but we're like, I feel like we're in
- 5:32Speaker 1: a good place and I love Greens. I like, I
- 5:34Speaker 1: don't think I could ever choose like one or the
- 5:36Speaker 1: other because they're also both so good. So it's like, okay,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'm going five to five. We're going split.
- 5:42Speaker 2: And some people are saying it's unfair that Whitney is
- 5:46Speaker 2: doing it because she has such a strong background and dancing.
- 5:50Speaker 2: What are your thoughts on that.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I mean, I wouldn't say it's unfair because I don't
- 5:53Speaker 1: think she was like a professional dancer, but she did.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Like I guess she does have a good advantage because
- 5:58Speaker 1: she did dance for her major. Like, I get that,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and I think it's also a reasony I don't think
- 6:02Speaker 1: I want to go on because I like a lot
- 6:04Speaker 1: of people that go on the show have a dance experience.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yes, I have here, So.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I feel like they can't like single Witney out because
- 6:10Speaker 1: I know was it Glob's partner? I wrote where her
- 6:12Speaker 1: name is Lah? I heard that she was a professional
- 6:16Speaker 1: ballroom dancer but then got hurt. But I'm like, that's
- 6:18Speaker 1: still That'd be like me going and playing tennis and
- 6:20Speaker 1: people have never played before. I'd kick their butts, you know.
- 6:22Speaker 3: But don't you feel I agree with that, But don't
- 6:25Speaker 3: you feel there's like a level of popularity that goes
- 6:28Speaker 3: into who wins too.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I think it's fifty percent dance or actually it's like
- 6:34Speaker 1: forty percent dance maybe and then sixty percent popular people. Honestly,
- 6:37Speaker 1: it could be more because I know that she was
- 6:40Speaker 1: in the bottom three, right, but she's like really good,
- 6:42Speaker 1: So it's like.
- 6:43Speaker 3: She's good, but she's not very well liked.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the problem.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yes, that's why I'm like, I'd be kicked off so quick.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Oh my god, you have all your Orange County voters
- 6:54Speaker 1: coming through, all the house by.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Voter, Yeah, especially my cast.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Would I'd be like if one showed up.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Just how they did, they wouldn't come support.
- 7:04Speaker 2: You never know. I don't think it would be like
- 7:07Speaker 2: a podcast support. I would. Yeah, you guys did. Yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I can't believe that you guys start airing already, like
- 7:15Speaker 2: November thirteenth.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I know, for season three. I feel like it just
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's just like flown by. I don't know, Like I
- 7:22Speaker 1: think I was just with you guys in the studio.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So I'm like, I just and it's like already new
- 7:25Speaker 1: seasons coming out. It's bizarre.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Well, you guys are a huge hit, and I've never
- 7:29Speaker 3: seen a reality show like this just take off. Now
- 7:33Speaker 3: you have some of the girls and dance and the stars,
- 7:35Speaker 3: you have Taylor being the new bachelorette.
- 7:38Speaker 2: How do you think to.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Coze, Oh, Like, he's definitely not happy about it, that's
- 7:42Speaker 1: for sure. I mean, I think he's probably gotten over
- 7:44Speaker 1: it now. But I don't think he knew for sure
- 7:46Speaker 1: when it was announced that she was a bachelorette, Like
- 7:50Speaker 1: I know, like there was rumblings and like the girls knew,
- 7:53Speaker 1: but I don't think he knew for sure until it
- 7:55Speaker 1: came out on call her Daddy. Oh, I was.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Really happy that I can get back together for the
- 8:01Speaker 3: especially for the.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Same No, I don't know.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I don't on here, No, I don't. I don't. Maybe
- 8:08Speaker 3: I don't know everything he's done to her. Maybe that's
- 8:10Speaker 3: what it is.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I mean in regardless of him, Like I've had my differences,
- 8:14Speaker 1: like I obviously like haven't liked him, but in general
- 8:18Speaker 1: too like them two together, regardless of what he's done,
- 8:21Speaker 1: it's just toxic. Even like he did change and he
- 8:24Speaker 1: was the best ever, it's still never gonna work between
- 8:27Speaker 1: the two of them. It's just them together is horrible,
- 8:30Speaker 1: bad news.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Like, yeah, we would see him on the show and
- 8:33Speaker 3: he would cry, and his confessionals and things like that.
- 8:36Speaker 3: So I think I just had a little bit of
- 8:37Speaker 3: a soft spot for him, like oh, changing.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Can do that.
- 8:43Speaker 1: They can. And it's funny because I even feel that
- 8:46Speaker 1: sometimes with him, where like I like will have strongly
- 8:48Speaker 1: like I'll strongly dislike him, but then like in person,
- 8:51Speaker 1: sometimes I'm like, ah, like he is like a likable person,
- 8:54Speaker 1: like he he has a good side to him. He's
- 8:57Speaker 1: not like I would say he's like a bad person,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Like there's times where I felt that way, But I
- 9:00Speaker 1: don't think he's a bad person to his core. He
- 9:03Speaker 1: just makes bad decisions, good dad, I think. So, I mean,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I don't know. I think in the past they questioned it,
- 9:09Speaker 1: but like I think he tries his best. No, I
- 9:11Speaker 1: don't know, Like I have no idea. I don't I've
- 9:13Speaker 1: never really seen him interact as a dad, like I
- 9:16Speaker 1: think whenever they film like Ever hasn't been around, Like
- 9:18Speaker 1: I haven't seen him with ever, you know, So I
- 9:21Speaker 1: wouldn't know, but I assume he is, like Jordan said,
- 9:23Speaker 1: he's a great dad.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I don't know, I think. So we were left on
- 9:28Speaker 2: a big cliffhanger last season between Jesse and Marciano. Oh yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 2: are we going to get into that a little bit?
- 9:34Speaker 1: You're going to get into that a lot, And this
- 9:36Speaker 1: next season, I feel I feel like we're going to
- 9:39Speaker 1: see a lot like I think people are going to
- 9:41Speaker 1: be surprised with what they see. And then also I
- 9:45Speaker 1: just feel because I actually got to see this season
- 9:48Speaker 1: ahead of time. Usually we never get to see it,
- 9:49Speaker 1: but we did get to see it this time, and
- 9:51Speaker 1: I will say it's probably my favorite season so far.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And I know we probably say that every year, but
- 9:57Speaker 1: I do feel like this time too. They kept like
- 9:59Speaker 1: the fun little moments in there that are usually cut
- 10:01Speaker 1: out for drama, Like I thought, they kept some of
- 10:03Speaker 1: the bloopers and some of the funny moments that usually
- 10:06Speaker 1: don't make the edit. So I did like that because
- 10:08Speaker 1: it kind of shows a personality and it shows kind
- 10:10Speaker 1: of like how we are. Because I feel like after
- 10:12Speaker 1: last season, we got a lot of comments like there's
- 10:14Speaker 1: like they're mean girls and blah bla blah. I'm like, well,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you guys, miss like the fun moments and the moments
- 10:19Speaker 1: that we're just like laughing and like screwing around and
- 10:21Speaker 1: like that gets cut a lot. So I feel like
- 10:23Speaker 1: they did leave a good amount of those this season.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So I felt like it was like funny, Like I
- 10:27Speaker 1: had moments that I was like dying laughing in it,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and like I feel like normally I don't.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So I don't know how do you deal with you
- 10:35Speaker 3: talking about mean comments and stuff like that, and how
- 10:37Speaker 3: do you deal with that on social media?
- 10:39Speaker 2: Has it been easy for you or hard?
- 10:41Speaker 1: I mean it's easy for me so far. I don't
- 10:43Speaker 1: feel like I get a lot of hate compared to
- 10:44Speaker 1: some many other girls. But I also like I feel
- 10:46Speaker 1: like it's because I am not very controversial, like I'm
- 10:49Speaker 1: just kind of doing my own thing. I feel like
- 10:51Speaker 1: I'm very neutral and it's not because I'm like playing
- 10:53Speaker 1: a role. That's just kind of how I am in life.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Like I just like I'm a neutral person. I can
- 10:57Speaker 1: see both sides of the equation, and I I don't know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and I'm very like empathetic towards people, and like I
- 11:04Speaker 1: can put myself on anyone's shoes, and I feel like
- 11:06Speaker 1: so for me, I don't get a ton of hate.
- 11:09Speaker 1: But I also say, like we definitely get grouped in
- 11:11Speaker 1: as a whole sometimes like these are all mean girls
- 11:12Speaker 1: or this and that, and like, well, you don't know,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you're seeing like twenty percent of like what we film,
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, because we film so much.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And they all see how people don't understand that.
- 11:22Speaker 1: No they don't. And I'm like, you're seeing just like
- 11:24Speaker 1: certain moments of our lives, Like you're seeing probably the
- 11:26Speaker 1: lowest moments and sometimes the highest, and you're not seeing
- 11:29Speaker 1: like the in between. So it doesn't really affect me,
- 11:32Speaker 1: though I know it affects other people. But I will
- 11:35Speaker 1: say I don't get as much hate as other girls,
- 11:36Speaker 1: so I can't really You're lucky, you know, speak to it.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I do you take skin though, Like I feel like
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm used to being judged and things like that, Like
- 11:45Speaker 1: my whole life growing up being Mormon and having other
- 11:47Speaker 1: Mormons who that I wasn't like Mormon enough you know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: say comments, and so I feel like I'm used to it,
- 11:51Speaker 1: so I don't really care. I'm like, you don't know me,
- 11:53Speaker 1: so you can't really judge me, you know, and you're
- 11:55Speaker 1: not perfect, so you can't judge you know what they do?
- 11:58Speaker 2: No remind me is mean?
- 12:00Speaker 3: Is she on this new season coming up?
- 12:04Speaker 1: She is, but not like the whole time, like some
- 12:07Speaker 1: pieces I can't even remember exactly.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Are you more team Jesse or to me team.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Jesse, But like I wouldn't say like I'm on a team,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but I'm closer with Jesse. And I feel like what
- 12:17Speaker 1: has happened, which you'll see more of this season, like
- 12:21Speaker 1: like I wasn't like I want to take this side,
- 12:23Speaker 1: but just kind of naturally happened based on like what
- 12:25Speaker 1: was happening and stuff, and like also because what we
- 12:28Speaker 1: were hearing wasn't The qualities are characteristics of someone that
- 12:32Speaker 1: I want to be close friends with. I have no
- 12:34Speaker 1: personal issues with me, I have no beef, Like we
- 12:37Speaker 1: have a fine relationship. But like just from observing certain things,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, like still love her as a person
- 12:43Speaker 1: as a friend, but yeah, I'm not going to be
- 12:46Speaker 1: like buddy buddy based on what I've seen, you know,
- 12:48Speaker 1: unless of things drastically change and we decide I don't
- 12:51Speaker 1: know whatever. I never say never because I am someone
- 12:54Speaker 1: who will forgive anything, and again, she hasn't anything to me,
- 12:57Speaker 1: so I have nothing to forgive. But just taking a
- 13:01Speaker 1: mental note, I guess, yeah, it's a complicated situation. I feel
- 13:03Speaker 1: like I don't even know exactly how I feel about
- 13:05Speaker 1: it because I do genuinely like like her and as
- 13:07Speaker 1: a person, and we've had like so many good memories together,
- 13:10Speaker 1: so it's hard to say.
- 13:23Speaker 2: You had an incredible, like moving storyline last season, which
- 13:27Speaker 2: I think is what led to your book. Can you
- 13:30Speaker 2: tell us a little bit more about how you started
- 13:34Speaker 2: writing it? Yeah, the stories behind it, what our viewers
- 13:38Speaker 2: would be tuning into.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, no, for sure. So, like I always tell people,
- 13:44Speaker 1: I feel the story's been writing itself for the last
- 13:46Speaker 1: ten years because I had a blog that I kind
- 13:49Speaker 1: of wrote and that's how I started social media and
- 13:52Speaker 1: kind of talking about my life story. And then I
- 13:53Speaker 1: also wrote in a diary for like all my trauma
- 13:57Speaker 1: stuff that I went through, Like I wrote it all down,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and then I've written like bits and pieces over the
- 14:00Speaker 1: last ten years, but never like put it in a book,
- 14:03Speaker 1: and then I got like the opportunity I got a
- 14:05Speaker 1: book deal because my manager knew it was like one
- 14:07Speaker 1: of my life goals and stuff, and so she got
- 14:10Speaker 1: me with an agent and I got a book deal
- 14:12Speaker 1: pretty quickly after season one, and so I was like, hey,
- 14:15Speaker 1: this is the time, and so like I kind of
- 14:17Speaker 1: pieced everything together that I had already written. Then she
- 14:19Speaker 1: like added new stories and a lot more details, and
- 14:21Speaker 1: so it was definitely a really hard process. But like luckily,
- 14:25Speaker 1: like I had kind of documented like everything else kind
- 14:27Speaker 1: of going on, so that it wasn't so I'm sure,
- 14:31Speaker 1: oh one hundred percent, because over time too, like you
- 14:33Speaker 1: can forget things like and I had notes that I
- 14:35Speaker 1: wrote for therapy and things like that that I had saved.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So I had like so much information that made it
- 14:40Speaker 1: a lot easier for the writing process, Like I like
- 14:43Speaker 1: still wasn't easy. And then I also added stories and
- 14:45Speaker 1: that were fun and like lighthearted and like silly and
- 14:49Speaker 1: stuff that people wouldn't know about me or that like
- 14:51Speaker 1: they wouldn't see in the show. Like there is so
- 14:53Speaker 1: much more in this book than like the three minutes
- 14:56Speaker 1: that you saw on the show for seasons.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, can you give us a little bit more of
- 14:59Speaker 2: a and just like the backstory of what you showed
- 15:02Speaker 2: on the show, and then.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so I will say for the show too.
- 15:06Speaker 1: For like that storyline, I filmed a lot of that,
- 15:09Speaker 1: some of it season one, but then it was all
- 15:12Speaker 1: cut out of season one, right, So then we kind
- 15:14Speaker 1: of picked it back up for season two because I
- 15:16Speaker 1: still was going through this process of like I've never
- 15:18Speaker 1: been to the crash site or my baby daddy died,
- 15:21Speaker 1: and so like that was something that like we wanted
- 15:23Speaker 1: to revisit because like I had my book deal, so like, okay,
- 15:26Speaker 1: this is probably great to kind of open that chapter
- 15:29Speaker 1: starting to write, and like I need to kind of
- 15:31Speaker 1: heal to write for this book. So that was kind
- 15:34Speaker 1: of like the idea behind it. It was very difficult
- 15:38Speaker 1: to do it because it's kind of like something that
- 15:42Speaker 1: you always know you needed to do. We just didn't
- 15:44Speaker 1: want to do it because he knew it was going
- 15:45Speaker 1: to be hard. Like that's how it was to the
- 15:47Speaker 1: crash site, Like I knew I need to do it,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I just kept like pushing it off. So I feel
- 15:50Speaker 1: like even doing it, I didn't do it for the show.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I did it for myself, but I feel like they
- 15:54Speaker 1: gave me an extra push to do that, and I
- 15:57Speaker 1: was very grateful that I did, because it healed part
- 16:00Speaker 1: of me inside to an extent. But there is so
- 16:04Speaker 1: much more to that story of like what I dealt with,
- 16:07Speaker 1: like with grief, and you know, like a backside of
- 16:10Speaker 1: like meeting Hudson's dad and like him passing away, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: how I was like kind of suicidal during my pregnancy,
- 16:17Speaker 1: and like how my mom helped pick up those pieces,
- 16:19Speaker 1: and how I went back to byu, you know, even
- 16:22Speaker 1: though I had a kid, and like what it was
- 16:23Speaker 1: like doing that, especially in like a religious culture. So
- 16:27Speaker 1: I talk a lot about that. And then a big
- 16:28Speaker 1: piece that you don't see on the show too, is
- 16:30Speaker 1: I talk about my relationship before I met my son's
- 16:33Speaker 1: father and like the abuse that I went through, and
- 16:36Speaker 1: we did film a little bit of that for the
- 16:37Speaker 1: show that also got cut, so you get to see
- 16:40Speaker 1: like what I went through before I met Hudson's dad,
- 16:43Speaker 1: And I feel like it all kind of like my
- 16:45Speaker 1: story kind of all makes sense once the pieces are
- 16:47Speaker 1: put together, and I feel like it even makes more
- 16:49Speaker 1: sense as to why I'm so neutral in the show
- 16:52Speaker 1: or thanks writers, because you see how much I've been
- 16:54Speaker 1: through and how I hate, like I hate having beef
- 16:57Speaker 1: with people. I always like to leave things on a
- 16:58Speaker 1: good note because I know how how fragile life is
- 17:01Speaker 1: and how quickly, like someone that I love was taken
- 17:03Speaker 1: from me, and I would never want to experience that again,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and if I did, I wouldn't want to have regrets.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And I did have regrets, like when my son's father
- 17:10Speaker 1: passed away, because of like certain things that I said.
- 17:12Speaker 3: You know, why do you think they cut it from
- 17:15Speaker 3: the first season? Do you think it was just too deep.
- 17:17Speaker 3: They wanted to get the viewers to get to know
- 17:19Speaker 3: you a little bit better before they learned all this stuff.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yes, I do. I feel like a lot of storylines
- 17:25Speaker 1: were cut unless they were Taylor, And I said that because,
- 17:28Speaker 1: like she is obviously like kind of the star, the
- 17:30Speaker 1: focal point of the show, and so I feel like
- 17:32Speaker 1: they wanted to follow like the current life drama instead
- 17:35Speaker 1: of like things that maybe we've got into paths that
- 17:38Speaker 1: still affect us now. And I do feel like they
- 17:40Speaker 1: dived into that a little bit more season two. But
- 17:42Speaker 1: even then, I did film like five scenes for my storyline,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and they were all pretty much cut down to those
- 17:48Speaker 1: two that you see of me talking to the mom,
- 17:53Speaker 1: you know, Eric's mom, which is my son's father, his mom,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and then they shows me like going to the crash site.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But I did film like multiple other scenes that were
- 18:01Speaker 1: all cut. I don't know why. I have no idea.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Part of me is fine that they were, because you're
- 18:05Speaker 1: gonna get all that in the book, right, You're gonna
- 18:07Speaker 1: get so much more detail and things that you didn't
- 18:09Speaker 1: even what you would have seen is nowhere near what
- 18:12Speaker 1: isn't the book, you know, So I'm glad to get
- 18:15Speaker 1: the whole thing cut.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Did the mom talk girls support your journey in writing
- 18:19Speaker 3: this book.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for sure. I think like I'm someone who
- 18:22Speaker 1: kind of goes through things on my own and behind
- 18:24Speaker 1: the scenes, I don't like to I don't say like
- 18:26Speaker 1: burden people. That's like what I'm going through is like
- 18:28Speaker 1: they obviously were very supportive, but I feel like when
- 18:30Speaker 1: I was struggling here and there, I didn't tell anyone,
- 18:33Speaker 1: like writing it and stuff like. I mean, I think
- 18:35Speaker 1: michaela certain days I'm like, oh yeah, I'm like a
- 18:37Speaker 1: little depressed, you know, writing this book. And like then
- 18:39Speaker 1: also cookies would show overt my door because she's like
- 18:41Speaker 1: the most like supportive person, Like she's like truly like
- 18:44Speaker 1: the best I love her so much, Like she's just
- 18:46Speaker 1: so supportive of like everything, and that's kind of how
- 18:49Speaker 1: we are together. So like she's alwaysly been very helpful
- 18:53Speaker 1: on my journey because she's probably the only person I
- 18:54Speaker 1: would be like, oh, yeah, I'm like kind of sad
- 18:56Speaker 1: today because like sometimes it's hard to be like vulnerable
- 18:59Speaker 1: and that's sense and tell a friend, you know, like hey, yeah,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm like kind of hurting her right now. And I
- 19:04Speaker 1: think me and her, as we've gotten even closer over
- 19:06Speaker 1: the years, have gotten better at that together. Like she'll
- 19:08Speaker 1: be like yeah, this and that, or like postpartum I
- 19:10Speaker 1: try to check in a lot with her too.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys were pregnant at the same time, right,
- 19:14Speaker 3: and you gave birth around at the same time.
- 19:16Speaker 1: How many weeks or stays apart? Yeah. Yeah, her baby
- 19:20Speaker 1: is six days older than mine, so they're like destined
- 19:23Speaker 1: to be better best friends. Yeah, her baby's name is
- 19:27Speaker 1: Lottie and my baby's name is Charlie, So I guess
- 19:30Speaker 1: they're both nicknames for Charlotte. And we didn't even know that,
- 19:34Speaker 1: like the internet started going crazy. I think both need
- 19:36Speaker 1: their baby Charlotte, and I was like what we did? Like,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I was like so confused. So I didn't even know
- 19:40Speaker 1: that until we you know, heard it online. So now
- 19:43Speaker 1: we kind of play into it. And we both named
- 19:45Speaker 1: our baby Charlotte, and we thought of the name like
- 19:46Speaker 1: we'll like joke around. But yeah, we both did even
- 19:48Speaker 1: know that it was a nickname for Charlotte until yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I guess.
- 19:53Speaker 3: So, So, how is the show changed your life?
- 20:09Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, It's it's funny because I feel like
- 20:12Speaker 1: it's still the same as far as like I still
- 20:14Speaker 1: feel like me, like nothing feels different to me, but
- 20:16Speaker 1: like obviously financial financially, it's been more beneficial, Like you know,
- 20:23Speaker 1: like this book deal I think would have happened no
- 20:24Speaker 1: matter what, but I think it got it like in
- 20:26Speaker 1: the door of like the best people because the show
- 20:29Speaker 1: and like my story, I had more awareness, right, So
- 20:33Speaker 1: that for sure. And then I think, just like, yeah,
- 20:37Speaker 1: I know it's crazy that like people like know who
- 20:39Speaker 1: we are. I guess that's like the one that's really
- 20:41Speaker 1: different is like going out places and people wanting pictures,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and I mean that would happen a little bit beforehand
- 20:46Speaker 1: because we were doing like the influencer thing and we
- 20:48Speaker 1: all had like followers and stuff like that. But like
- 20:51Speaker 1: obviously it's like way more heightened now. Yeah, so like
- 20:54Speaker 1: that's cool, but like sometimes it's hard because I like
- 20:58Speaker 1: I love to just like you know, well to get
- 21:00Speaker 1: in my sweats and looking like a little homeless, you know,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and sometimes now like.
- 21:04Speaker 3: You're speaking mind Teddy's language. Yeah, like and I love that,
- 21:07Speaker 3: and I feel homeless right now, no exactly, Like I
- 21:10Speaker 3: have to look at I do to do a photo
- 21:12Speaker 3: shoot off this.
- 21:12Speaker 1: That's why I'm like so glammed up. But yeah, so
- 21:14Speaker 1: that's the only thing. It's a little bit different that
- 21:16Speaker 1: it's not like you don't like it, but like I do.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Sometimes I feel like you get watched a little bit,
- 21:23Speaker 1: and so like sometimes that's hard. Like you know, going
- 21:25Speaker 1: to a dinner and you can see people like watching
- 21:26Speaker 1: me and you're like okay, like you're taking your picture
- 21:29Speaker 1: and your pictures that like they're recording you without like
- 21:32Speaker 1: saying hi, and I'm like, wait, like I don't like that,
- 21:34Speaker 1: Like that's the only thing I don't love or like
- 21:36Speaker 1: when I'm with my family and stuff, and then I'm
- 21:38Speaker 1: like if my kids are going faral and they're like
- 21:40Speaker 1: taking videos and like, well, what are you doing with them?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Like that's like kind of right it? Yeah, Well I
- 21:46Speaker 1: was like I just more sorry about the intention behind it,
- 21:49Speaker 1: or like are you doing that to talk shit on me?
- 21:51Speaker 1: Are you like or you just like are you excited
- 21:53Speaker 1: get to a blogger? Yeah, that's the only thing I
- 21:55Speaker 1: worry about. I'm like, if you have good intentions, no problem,
- 21:58Speaker 1: no issue, Come ask me for a picture. Sure. But
- 22:00Speaker 1: like I think when people are secretive about it, like
- 22:02Speaker 1: we know, like when you're filming and stuff like, sometimes
- 22:05Speaker 1: you question their attentions like are you trained to be
- 22:07Speaker 1: like malicious or are you like genuinely like excited. I
- 22:10Speaker 1: don't know, it's like, yeah, that's not like the everst.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Sometimes you have to question yourself or you have to
- 22:14Speaker 1: worry about like being watched when you're like maybe in
- 22:17Speaker 1: a vulnerable position, you know, like or even going to
- 22:19Speaker 1: take the obgyn. When I was first pregnant, I'm like
- 22:22Speaker 1: are people going to see me? And I'm like put
- 22:24Speaker 1: it online because I want to announce my pregnancy like
- 22:26Speaker 1: on my own time, in my own way. So I think, yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 1: that's what you just have to get used to is
- 22:30Speaker 1: like certain moments being exposed maybe maybe before you're ready
- 22:33Speaker 1: or before you want to talk about them. And that's
- 22:35Speaker 1: something that I guess I'm kind of getting used to
- 22:37Speaker 1: as well.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and then how has that LDS community responded to
- 22:41Speaker 2: your book and now going into another?
- 22:44Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean I haven't heard anything about the
- 22:48Speaker 1: book at least, I guess what about the show. The show,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I haven't heard anything new like in the past last year,
- 22:54Speaker 1: before it came out and the trailer came out that
- 22:56Speaker 1: you know, everyone was freaking out, like these aren't real
- 22:58Speaker 1: Mormons and this is not what Warren's are, and like
- 23:00Speaker 1: people were freaking out right, and like that was a
- 23:02Speaker 1: little hard because I'm like, this is my own community
- 23:05Speaker 1: like kind of attacking me, and I'm like I am
- 23:06Speaker 1: a member and like I teach children about Jesus and
- 23:09Speaker 1: our church. This is kind of weird for me. And
- 23:12Speaker 1: it made me question myself too. I'm like, am I
- 23:14Speaker 1: doing something wrong? Like is this bad? Like I feel
- 23:16Speaker 1: like I did question myself and that was kind of hard.
- 23:18Speaker 1: And then it came out and like people realize it's
- 23:20Speaker 1: not all about like swinging and drinking. Until like people
- 23:23Speaker 1: were like chill, but I feel like I've heard a
- 23:25Speaker 1: ton and if I do, I just don't care, like whatever,
- 23:28Speaker 1: Like you can think what you want, but like I.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Don't know, you immune to it after a while.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I think I'm just used to it. I
- 23:35Speaker 1: did worry in the beginning because I just I mean,
- 23:37Speaker 1: I hadn't seen the show when it came out either.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It's like I don't know how it's edited. I'm like,
- 23:40Speaker 1: what if it does make it look like we're like
- 23:42Speaker 1: just bashing the church, because like that's not what I
- 23:44Speaker 1: want to do. Like it could be any religion and
- 23:46Speaker 1: I'm not going to bash it because I just think
- 23:47Speaker 1: it's like disrespectful. So I was a little worried, and
- 23:50Speaker 1: then it came out and I was like, oh, that's.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Fine, Yeah, yeah that makes sense. Yeah, what else can
- 23:57Speaker 2: you tease in regards to the books so that we
- 23:59Speaker 2: can get everybody buying it?
- 24:01Speaker 1: I mean I do tell like a little bit behind
- 24:04Speaker 1: the scenes of mom Talk, which like I think we
- 24:06Speaker 1: don't really talk about the show and kind of like
- 24:08Speaker 1: how I got into mom Talk because I think a
- 24:11Speaker 1: lot of people this is like one thing that's funny
- 24:13Speaker 1: that kind of like will kind of bug. A lot
- 24:14Speaker 1: of us is that people online will be like, you
- 24:16Speaker 1: guys don't even have a career without Taylor, and like
- 24:18Speaker 1: you'd be nothing without her. And I'm like, I was
- 24:21Speaker 1: making money doing social media full time before I met Taylor,
- 24:23Speaker 1: like we were friends on social media media, and Mikayla's same.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And I can't speak for everyone, but there's a lot
- 24:28Speaker 1: of girls who already had their own careers on social
- 24:30Speaker 1: media before they reported mom Talk. So like I had
- 24:34Speaker 1: one point two million followers before I even went into
- 24:36Speaker 1: mom Talk. But a lot of people don't know that
- 24:37Speaker 1: because I see us all together and they're like, oh
- 24:39Speaker 1: my gosh, you won't even have followers without her. I'm like, no,
- 24:41Speaker 1: I very much like grew this on my own. So
- 24:44Speaker 1: I think it's kind of like fun toeal to tell,
- 24:46Speaker 1: like how my career was before mom Talk as well,
- 24:50Speaker 1: because I worked corporate. I was in advertising and then
- 24:52Speaker 1: when I worked at Goldman Sachs and I worked as
- 24:54Speaker 1: a marketing manager before I took social media full time.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So I did stuff and the people like just don't know,
- 24:59Speaker 1: Like people I don't know a lot about my tennis background,
- 25:02Speaker 1: and that was like my whole life growing up was like,
- 25:04Speaker 1: my identity is like rooted in sports, but people would
- 25:06Speaker 1: have no idea watching the show because it's not talked about.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So I am excited for them to get to know
- 25:11Speaker 1: me better because I do feel like a lot of
- 25:13Speaker 1: the things that I film on the show unfortunately get
- 25:16Speaker 1: cut a lot, and I think it's because I'm not
- 25:18Speaker 1: very dramatic, like I I don't have a dramatic past,
- 25:22Speaker 1: and you'll read about that in the book. I think
- 25:23Speaker 1: some people who have interviewed me, they're like, wow, I
- 25:25Speaker 1: didn't know, like your life was so messy back then.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, like there was a reality show back
- 25:30Speaker 1: then then it would have been crazy, but like, luckily.
- 25:33Speaker 3: That probably wouldn't have been good for you.
- 25:35Speaker 1: No, it wouldn't have so like we're in a good
- 25:37Speaker 1: place now and stuff, so I can talk about those
- 25:39Speaker 1: experiences and use them. And I also think that's why
- 25:41Speaker 1: I am very protective of my friends, and you see
- 25:43Speaker 1: i'll see that on the show, is because of what
- 25:45Speaker 1: I've been through, especially with Taylor, because you were like,
- 25:47Speaker 1: why is she so invested in a relationship Because I
- 25:49Speaker 1: feel like I've lived it before and I hate watching
- 25:52Speaker 1: you make the same mistakes over and over again. I
- 25:54Speaker 1: want to like stop it from happening because I know
- 25:57Speaker 1: how painful it can be. So I think people when
- 26:00Speaker 1: they read the book, they'll realize why I am the
- 26:02Speaker 1: way that I am, and I'm excited for them to
- 26:04Speaker 1: see that.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Do you talk about the girls in your book and
- 26:07Speaker 3: is there anything in there that could potentially upset them?
- 26:12Speaker 1: I do talk with them a little bit. Nothing that
- 26:14Speaker 1: would upset them, I don't think, not that I can
- 26:17Speaker 1: think of, because it was like, it's not like it's like,
- 26:19Speaker 1: you know a ton about mom talk. It's kind of
- 26:21Speaker 1: like how I got into it, and like a little
- 26:23Speaker 1: bit about the scandal and stuff like that. But I
- 26:27Speaker 1: don't think there's anything that would upset them. If there was,
- 26:29Speaker 1: I'd be shocked and I probably wouldn't care because I'm like,
- 26:31Speaker 1: I hate write anything rude.
- 26:34Speaker 3: A lot of people that write books will like out
- 26:38Speaker 3: certain people that and piss off family members. So you
- 26:43Speaker 3: don't do any of that.
- 26:44Speaker 1: It's not like a tell all where I'm like, and
- 26:46Speaker 1: then this person did this, and this person did this.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I feel like I'm someone who loves to give grace
- 26:50Speaker 1: to people because I know I'm not perfect. In the past,
- 26:53Speaker 1: I was definitely not always the best, and so I
- 26:56Speaker 1: feel like I have to give space for people to
- 26:59Speaker 1: maybe done me wrong or done me dirty in the past,
- 27:02Speaker 1: because like we're all trying our best, is how I
- 27:05Speaker 1: feel like and in the past, and when you're young,
- 27:07Speaker 1: I always say, before your brain's developed, you do make
- 27:09Speaker 1: a lot of mistakes. Like I don't think I realized
- 27:11Speaker 1: that to like got older and I was like, wait,
- 27:12Speaker 1: what were you doing? Or like why'd you do this?
- 27:15Speaker 1: Like I feel like you realize as you get older,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you know certain things you could have done better.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, And have you heard from anyone that
- 27:23Speaker 2: you hadn't talked to for a long time once the
- 27:25Speaker 2: book came out?
- 27:27Speaker 1: No, no, yet, I still feel like I worry, Like
- 27:30Speaker 1: when you're talking about family and like relationships, it is
- 27:34Speaker 1: a little nerve wracking, Like I'd be lying if I
- 27:36Speaker 1: said I wasn't nervous about it. I did let my dad.
- 27:39Speaker 1: My dad is the first person to read it. I mean,
- 27:41Speaker 1: my husband has read like most of it, but like periodically,
- 27:45Speaker 1: he hasn't read like the final version because we did
- 27:47Speaker 1: edit things out. But my dad was like sending me
- 27:51Speaker 1: paragraphs and he was like, if I would have known
- 27:53Speaker 1: this was happening, I would have killed this guy. And
- 27:56Speaker 1: I was like, I know, since I didn't tell you
- 27:57Speaker 1: because I didn't want you going to jail. So like
- 28:00Speaker 1: wind the dad and not a dad in prison. So
- 28:03Speaker 1: like certain things like that, Like my dad read it
- 28:05Speaker 1: and who was he was shocked by some of the
- 28:07Speaker 1: things that I wrote that he had no idea about,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know, So I do get a little worry about
- 28:12Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. But like my dad's wrote it,
- 28:14Speaker 1: and he, you know, is very supportive. So yeah, that's good.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Well, congratulations and thank you so much for you going
- 28:21Speaker 3: on and talking to us.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Of course it's always fun.
- 28:24Speaker 2: And where do people get the book?
- 28:26Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, so it's like all over. It'll be on Amazon.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It's on Amazon, Barnes and Noble. I think it'll be
- 28:32Speaker 1: in stores and Target, like all the main areas you
- 28:35Speaker 1: can get it. People want to sign copy. It's available
- 28:38Speaker 1: on Premiere Collectibles and then obviously the book tour.
