- 0:12Hello friends. It's shown here and welcome to
- 0:16another day and an exciting day because you and I get to crack
- 0:20open a shiny new gospel today. Today, we begin reading through
- 0:25the Gospel of Luke and what a wonderful gospel this is because
- 0:29it's pretty much It's written for you and me like being a
- 0:32logical. Fellow a physician he gathered
- 0:35all the information together, including most likely the gospel
- 0:38of Mark and other sources he researched and he wrote, well,
- 0:43what's probably the first historical account of Jesus life
- 0:47and then he followed it up with the book of Acts.
- 0:50And in fact, While most of us think that Paul is the most
- 0:53prolific writer of the New Testament, it's actually Luke in
- 0:57these two books, Luke and acts he writes more than any other
- 1:00author in the New Testament. And so this is written to a
- 1:04gentile audience like you. And I while I probably shouldn't
- 1:07assume that like most of us, I would assume as he begins the
- 1:11book by telling us that he has written this for the most
- 1:14honourable Theophilus. So let us go back to the
- 1:20beginning, let us go back to Jesus birth, to hear the story
- 1:25of our savior and his life ridden through the lens of this
- 1:30man, trying his best to tell the story as clearly and accurately
- 1:34as possible. So that you and I can know the
- 1:38truth. So join me friends, as We Begin
- 1:42by reading together, Luke chapter 1,
- 1:55many people have set out to write accounts about the events
- 1:58that have been fulfilled Among Us, they use the eyewitness
- 2:02reports circulating Among Us from the early disciples.
- 2:06Having carefully investigated, everything from the beginning.
- 2:09I also have decided to write an accurate account for you most
- 2:14honourable Theophilus. So you can be certain of the
- 2:17truth of everything you were taught.
- 2:20When Herod was King of Judea, there was a Jewish priest named
- 2:24Zechariah, he was a member of the Priestly order of Abuja.
- 2:28And his wife, Elizabeth was also from the Priestly line of Aaron
- 2:33Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in.
- 2:35God's eyes, careful to obey. All of the Lord's commandments
- 2:39and regulations. They had no children because
- 2:43Elizabeth was unable to conceive and they were both very old.
- 2:48One day Zechariah was serving God in the temple for his order
- 2:52was on duty that week as was the custom of the priests.
- 2:56He was chosen by lot to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and
- 3:00burn incense, while the incense is being burned, a great crowd,
- 3:05stood outside praying, while Zechariah was in the sanctuary,
- 3:09an angel of the Lord appeared to him standing to the right of the
- 3:13incense altar. Zachariah was shaken and
- 3:16overwhelmed with fear. When he saw him, but the angel
- 3:20said, don't be afraid. Zechariah.
- 3:23God has heard your prayer, your wife, Elizabeth will give you a
- 3:27son and you are to name him. John, you will have great, joy,
- 3:33and gladness, and many Will Rejoice at his birth for.
- 3:36He will be great. In the eyes of the Lord, he must
- 3:39never touch wine or other alcoholic drinks.
- 3:43He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before his birth and
- 3:48he Ten many Israelites to the Lord.
- 3:50Their God. He will be a man with the spirit
- 3:53and power of Elijah. He will prepare the people for
- 3:57the coming of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the
- 4:01fathers to their children, and he will.
- 4:03Cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of The
- 4:07Godly Zechariah, said to the angel, how can I be sure this
- 4:11will happen. I'm an old man now and my wife
- 4:14is also well, along in years, then the angel said, Said I am
- 4:19Gabriel. I stand in the very presence of
- 4:22God it was he who sent me to bring you this good news.
- 4:26But now since you don't believe what I said, you will be silent
- 4:31and unable to speak until the child is born.
- 4:35For my words, will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time.
- 4:40Meanwhile the people we're waiting for Zechariah to come
- 4:43out of the sanctuary wondering why he was taking so long when
- 4:47he finally did come out he couldn't speak to them then they
- 4:52realized from his gestures and his silence that he must have
- 4:56seen a vision in the sanctuary. When Zacharias week of service
- 5:00in the temple was over. He returned home soon,
- 5:03afterward. His wife, Elizabeth became
- 5:06pregnant and went into seclusion for five months.
- 5:10How kind the Lord is? She exclaimed.
- 5:14He has taken away my disgrace of having no children.
- 5:19In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy.
- 5:22God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth a village in Galilee to
- 5:27a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to
- 5:31a man named Joseph. A descendant of King.
- 5:34David Gabriel appeared to her and said, greetings favored.
- 5:39Woman, the Lord is with you, Confused and Disturbed.
- 5:44Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.
- 5:47Don't be afraid. Mary the angel told her for you
- 5:51have found favor with God, you will conceive and give birth to
- 5:56a son and you will name him Jesus.
- 6:00He will be very great and will be called the son of the most
- 6:04high. The Lord God will give him the
- 6:07Throne of his ancestor David, and he will reign over Israel
- 6:12for Over his kingdom will never end Mary asked the angel but
- 6:18about how can this happen? I'm a virgin, the angel replied,
- 6:24the holy spirit will come upon you and the power of the most
- 6:28high will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be
- 6:32holy and he will be called The Son of God.
- 6:36What's more? Your relative Elizabeth has
- 6:39become pregnant in her old age people.
- 6:42People used to say she was Barren.
- 6:44But she has conceived a son and is now in a six month for the
- 6:49word of God will never fail. Mary responded.
- 6:54I am the Lord's. Servant May everything you have
- 6:57said about me come true. And then, the angel left her.
- 7:03A few weeks later, Mary hurried to the Hill Country of Judea to
- 7:07the town was Zechariah lived. She entered the house and
- 7:10greeted, Elizabeth at the sound of marriage.
- 7:13Greeting, Elizabeth Child Left within her and Elizabeth was
- 7:17filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and
- 7:22exclaimed to marry. God has blessed you above all
- 7:26women and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored that the
- 7:31mother of my Lord Should visit me when I heard your greeting,
- 7:36the baby in my womb jumped for Joy.
- 7:39You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do
- 7:43what he said. Mary responded.
- 7:47Oh, how my soul. Praises the Lord.
- 7:51How my spirit rejoices in God, my savior for he took notice of
- 7:57his lowly servant girl and from now on all generations will call
- 8:02me blessed for the mighty. One is holy and he has done
- 8:07great things for me. He shows Mercy from generation
- 8:12to generation to all who fear Him, his mighty arm has done
- 8:17tremendous. Mendes things, he has scattered
- 8:19the proud and haughty ones, he has brought down prince's from
- 8:23their Thrones and exalted The Humble.
- 8:27He has filled the Hungry with good things and sent the rich
- 8:31away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel
- 8:35and remembered to be merciful for he made this promise to our
- 8:40ancestors to Abraham and his children forever.
- 8:46Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back
- 8:50to her own home. When it was time for Elizabeth's
- 8:54baby to be born, she gave birth to a son and when a neighbors
- 8:59and relatives heard that the Lord had been very merciful to
- 9:02her everyone rejoiced with her. When the baby was eight days
- 9:07old, they all came for the circumcision ceremony.
- 9:11They wanted to name him Zechariah after his father but
- 9:14Elizabeth said, no his name is John what they exclaimed.
- 9:21There is no one in all your family by that name.
- 9:25So they use gestures to ask the baby's father.
- 9:27What he wanted to name him, he motioned for a writing tablet
- 9:31and to everyone's surprise he wrote his name is John instantly
- 9:38Zechariah could speak again and he began praising God or fell
- 9:43upon the whole neighborhood and the news of what had happened
- 9:47spread throughout the Judean Hills.
- 9:49Everyone heard about it reflected on these events and
- 9:52asked. What will this child turn out to
- 9:55be for the hand of the Lord was surely upon him in a special
- 9:59way? Then his father Zechariah was
- 10:03filled with the Holy Spirit and gave this prophecy.
- 10:06Praise the Lord, the god of Israel because he has visited
- 10:11and redeemed. His people, he has sent us a
- 10:15mighty savior from the Royal line of his servant David just
- 10:20as he promised through his holy prophets long ago.
- 10:24Now we will be saved from our enemies and from all who hate
- 10:29us, he He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his
- 10:34sacred Covenant, the Covenant, he swore with an oath to our
- 10:38ancestor, Abraham, we have been rescued from our enemies so we
- 10:42can serve god without fear in Holiness and righteousness for
- 10:48as long as we live. And you my little son will be
- 10:52called the prophet of the most high because you will prepare
- 10:56the way for the Lord. You will tell his people how to
- 11:00find Salvation Ation through forgiveness of their sins
- 11:03because of God's tender. Mercy, the Morning Light from
- 11:07Heaven is about to break upon us to give light to those who sit
- 11:11in darkness and in the shadow of death and to guide us to the
- 11:16path of peace. John grew up and became strong
- 11:21in spirit and he lived in the wilderness until he began his
- 11:25public Ministry to Israel. Father, we are humbled, as we
- 11:39read this, incredible story that you had been planning and
- 11:44drawing together all these for what seemed like, disparate
- 11:49threads into that one singular Narrative of you engaging, with
- 11:54your people to bring us all back into your arms.
- 12:01Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for that gift to
