ODYSSEY WILL MAKE MONEY, BUT I'M BUMMED ITS GOING TO SUCK. · the objective JERK

0:35
SPEAKER_08: The objective jerk and I am said jerk.
0:41
SPEAKER_08: How you doing?
0:43
SPEAKER_08: Having some problems my audio, but I'm going to react to a video by George the Giant Slayer.
0:54
SPEAKER_08: And it's why Nolan's Odyssey isn't Homer.
0:58
SPEAKER_08: It's something darker.
1:00
SPEAKER_08: So I'll put the link for this in my thing.
1:04
SPEAKER_08: Huh?
1:04
SPEAKER_08: Which I guess is not really for you guys, the listeners, it's more for, you know, respect to this guy.
1:12
SPEAKER_08: So I'm kind of learning what to do and what not to do, especially when reacting to somebody else's channel and everything.
1:21
SPEAKER_08: So I'm trying to do right by, you know, by the YouTube, the unwritten rules, so to speak.
1:29
SPEAKER_08: The Odyssey, right?
1:31
SPEAKER_08: Everybody was excited when it word got out.
1:34
SPEAKER_08: I did a video, another video on it, but and it kind of seems like it's just it's gonna be trash other in the fact other than visually.
1:45
SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
1:46
SPEAKER_08: Because Nolan films are always visually stunning and awesome.
1:50
SPEAKER_08: This movie will still do well, I'm pretty sure, because not everybody follows the retarded, you know, woke politics of Hollywood.
1:59
SPEAKER_08: Like but I think it's with the ratio going on with the trailer, it's definitely gonna hurt it a little bit.
2:06
SPEAKER_08: It the movie would make a lot more if they had not used a feminist as her translation, and then you know, cast a bunch of people that didn't fit that didn't fit their narrative.
2:23
SPEAKER_08: It's like there was a clip, I don't know if it's on this video.
2:26
SPEAKER_08: I I started watching this and I was enjoying it, and then now with what I'm doing as far as watching, reacting to certain things and discussing various things, so it's like I catch myself, I'm like, oh crap, I can talk about this on my channel.
2:40
SPEAKER_08: So a lot of things I've started watching, but I didn't finish.
2:44
SPEAKER_08: And I don't know if it's on this video where I saw it, but it does kind of show the hypocrisy of like act Hollywood actors, how they think they're so righteous and everything.
2:55
SPEAKER_08: And I crap bigger new.
2:57
SPEAKER_08: But anyway, this video is 17 minutes, so I'm actually gonna speed it up a smidgen so that you know it's a little quicker.
3:07
SPEAKER_08: All right, here we go.
3:08
SPEAKER_10: Tell me what you remember.
3:10
SPEAKER_10: A book called Black Athena.
3:11
SPEAKER_10: I think people should read it, which argues that classical Greek culture is heavily indebted to Afroasiatic and Near Eastern roots.
3:17
SPEAKER_10: I actually taught Greek mythology to eighth graders.
3:19
SPEAKER_10: Uh-huh.
3:20
SPEAKER_10: And so I covered this.
3:22
SPEAKER_10: So people that are saying that Helen of Troy could not possibly be played by a black woman don't know history.
3:27
SPEAKER_05: What is in Latin?
3:28
SPEAKER_05: And I think my parents used to punish me for lying.
3:30
SPEAKER_05: Damn.
3:30
SPEAKER_05: That ever happened to you as a kid?
3:32
SPEAKER_05: Or was it just my Greek mom launching how she was like an Air Force strike drone?
3:35
SPEAKER_05: I was five years old.
3:37
SPEAKER_05: Cookie crumbs all over my face.
3:38
SPEAKER_05: Mom asks, did you eat them?
3:40
SPEAKER_05: No, I promise I didn't.
3:41
SPEAKER_05: One little fib, one giant smile, ear to ear, boom, incoming missile from a Mediterranean flip-flop.
3:46
SPEAKER_05: That's what Sunny Hostin deserves because she lying.
3:49
SPEAKER_05: It's exactly what Christopher Nolan is doing to the Odyssey.
3:51
SPEAKER_05: Lying.
3:52
SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
3:54
SPEAKER_08: You know, that's uh a thing with the Filipinos, too, the flip-flop.
3:59
SPEAKER_08: So it's kind of, I think it's funny that I guess all grandmothers kind of are that way.
4:04
SPEAKER_05: They both took the tired debunk three-volume trilogy of Black Athena, written by a Cornell professor of Chinese history, and they married it to Emily Wilson's bastard eyes, bubonic blueprint.
4:13
SPEAKER_05: Remember her from the last video?
4:14
SPEAKER_05: That's when you met her.
4:15
SPEAKER_05: This time you're gonna understand why she's a fanatic.
4:17
SPEAKER_05: No different than the host of the view.
4:19
SPEAKER_05: Both want to remake the future in their own image, but don't fall for the cheap parlor tricks.
4:23
SPEAKER_05: The stakes here are much bigger than they appear.
4:26
SPEAKER_05: Just remember the marketing from the movie.
4:28
SPEAKER_05: Defy the gods.
4:30
SPEAKER_05: That's the secret sauce that's gonna enemass this whole thing.
4:32
SPEAKER_05: Three little words.
4:33
SPEAKER_05: Three that gives Hollywood's long game a way to reboot Western civilization as the love child of a Beneton catalog after a one-night stand with a Netflix algorithm.
4:41
SPEAKER_05: And what are we gonna get for it?
4:42
SPEAKER_05: Hellenic Epic?
4:43
SPEAKER_05: Nope.
4:44
SPEAKER_05: Hollywood Helen.
4:45
SPEAKER_05: That's how Homer is repaid.
4:47
SPEAKER_05: That's how the Greeks are gonna be rewarded for giving the world mathematics, myth, medicine, art, philosophy, and respect for the divine.
4:53
SPEAKER_05: It's a trap.
4:54
SPEAKER_05: Just one giant lie.
4:56
SPEAKER_05: Do you know what the worst thing about a lie is?
4:58
SPEAKER_05: It means I don't trust you enough to tell you the truth.
5:00
SPEAKER_05: But in Hollywood, it just means we hate you.
5:03
SPEAKER_08: Dude, in this guy.
5:04
SPEAKER_07: Dude, what is mine saying?
5:07
SPEAKER_07: What about mine?
5:08
SPEAKER_07: Dude, what is mine saying?
5:10
SPEAKER_08: I don't even know why I do what I do with my channel.
5:13
SPEAKER_07: It's like Wake up, idiot!
5:17
SPEAKER_08: I don't know, it's apparent that I'm just a fool in a fool's game.
5:24
SPEAKER_08: No, that's not the right saying.
5:26
SPEAKER_08: I'm a fool in a whatever.
5:30
SPEAKER_08: I'm retarded.
5:32
SPEAKER_08: Anyway, I suck.
5:33
SPEAKER_08: I know, I get it.
5:34
SPEAKER_08: I'm not, you know, I'm not eloquent.
5:35
SPEAKER_08: I can't I can't write.
5:37
SPEAKER_08: I mean I can write, but man, doing some scripts, I don't know.
5:40
SPEAKER_08: But like this off the bat, dude, this guy's just killing it.
5:43
SPEAKER_08: Probably like most people, I I am not well versed in Homer's books.
5:50
SPEAKER_08: What a surprise! I remember having to read parts of the Iliad in high school, I want to say, and I don't even remember what I read or what even, you know, like we were probably given sections, and I don't even remember what mine was.
6:03
SPEAKER_08: The only quote-unquote education is Troy, basically, for me.
6:08
SPEAKER_08: I know there's been some other stuff.
6:10
SPEAKER_08: There's a there's a movie with another actor, an older guy who got all cut up for it.
6:16
SPEAKER_08: Ralph Fines?
6:17
SPEAKER_08: Is that his name?
6:18
SPEAKER_08: I think I got it right.
6:20
SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think that's who it is.
6:22
SPEAKER_08: Because he played M, the male, the new male M in the last Bonds, which I didn't I didn't watch the No Time to Die or whatever it's called.
6:29
SPEAKER_08: Just from what I heard, I just I refuse to watch it.
6:32
SPEAKER_08: It sucks, but whatever.
6:33
SPEAKER_08: I don't know all the details and all the facts, and but I can r recognize bullshit when I see it, so let's go there.
6:43
SPEAKER_05: Grandfather used to tell me as a kid, Opsefties kill cleft's monotombrophono glendai.
6:47
SPEAKER_05: The liar and the thief won't celebrate the first year.
6:49
SPEAKER_05: I then asked him, What then, Bapu?
6:51
SPEAKER_05: Then the bill comes due.
6:52
SPEAKER_05: And he just did.
6:54
SPEAKER_05: The Odyssey is officially the most disliked trailer in Christopher Nolan's entire career.
6:58
SPEAKER_05: Audience enthusiasm for the movie has plummeted over 10 points.
7:01
SPEAKER_05: People are more excited about seeing a 26-year franchise in Scary Movie 6 than what he produced.
7:05
SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
7:06
SPEAKER_08: Which is insane.
7:09
SPEAKER_08: I don't, you know, like I said, I don't like all of Nolan's films.
7:13
SPEAKER_08: Really?
7:14
SPEAKER_08: But I do like most of them.
7:15
SPEAKER_08: Yeah, this film would've this film probably would have killed it.
7:19
SPEAKER_08: Been huge if they just stuck to uh the story and did it right.
7:25
SPEAKER_08: But nope, they had to fuck it up.
7:27
SPEAKER_05: Truth versus lie.
7:29
SPEAKER_05: Good news, Argos is still in it.
7:32
SPEAKER_05: Still a dog.
7:33
SPEAKER_05: Not all challenges present themselves on the battlefield.
7:35
SPEAKER_05: Pay close attention to the pattern of the fabric scene here.
7:38
SPEAKER_05: Can you feel that?
7:39
SPEAKER_05: The pretense, the ego, the unspoken fear.
7:41
SPEAKER_05: That's universal playing nice.
7:43
SPEAKER_05: Now they're trying to put as positive a spin on all the promotions as they can.
7:46
SPEAKER_05: Because ever since the trailer came out, the backlash has been biblical.
7:49
SPEAKER_05: It's been all hands on deck in Hollywood, trying to make sure that Christopher doesn't get denulinated.
7:53
SPEAKER_05: Time magazine, variety hit pieces against the fans, GQ, 60 Minutes Hand Machage, and L introduced the cast like it was a fantastic work, actually.
8:01
SPEAKER_05: All so they could help Hollywood Helen be escorted into Greek mythology, whether we like it or not.
8:06
SPEAKER_05: And you know the very first thing that Leongo told the interviewer?
8:09
SPEAKER_05: I really had no idea what the Odyssey was.
8:11
SPEAKER_05: Oh shnapp.
8:13
SPEAKER_05: And she graduated with a master's from Yale.
8:15
SPEAKER_05: Never heard of Homer.
8:17
SPEAKER_05: That's what$72,000 a year bought her.
8:19
SPEAKER_05: A degree in Wakanda.
8:20
SPEAKER_09: What Black Panther shows us is that there is a whole host of people who get the misrepresentation that Africa has had and who respect the continent, want to re-investigate the continent and re-represent the continent.
8:35
SPEAKER_09: You know, our fictitious African nation speaks the language kota.
8:38
SPEAKER_09: We needed to learn that language, we needed to, you know, get the accent in English and everything, though it's a fictitious nation, it is brought to life and and derived from real African cultures.
8:49
SPEAKER_09: Hopefully there is a celebration in as a result of respect for these very w wealthy and diverted.
8:55
SPEAKER_01: When you talk to me like that, you forget you're talking to a man.
8:58
SPEAKER_08: Listen to what this bitch is saying.
9:00
SPEAKER_08: And he said it her name, and I'll have to try and see if hopefully he says it again.
9:04
SPEAKER_08: Because he said it, I didn't even catch it.
9:11
SPEAKER_08: But look at this bullshit that she's throwing about Black Panther, a fictional story, which the Odyssey is fictional too, but it's still based on true events, and it it there's some you know truth to it, because the the way the world and the everything was, you know.
9:27
SPEAKER_08: But this is come like 100% comic book, and she's like, oh, we gotta maintain the the crap, and oh, we gotta make sure we show you know what it really is and all this kind of crap, and then look what they do to the Odyssey.
9:40
SPEAKER_08: Like, are you kidding me?
9:41
SPEAKER_08: He's probably gonna say that, I'm sure.
9:42
SPEAKER_09: There's cultures that often just get washed as one thing.
9:45
SPEAKER_05: You know what?
9:45
SPEAKER_05: When you think about it, what she said, she's 100% right.
9:48
SPEAKER_05: Her worldview on stories, spot on.
9:50
SPEAKER_05: All stories should be respected.
9:52
SPEAKER_05: But you see the problem there.
9:53
SPEAKER_05: Wakanda, a fictionalized African nation from Marvel comic book.
9:56
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
9:57
SPEAKER_05: Respected.
9:57
SPEAKER_05: Homer's Odyssey representing real Greek culture, disrespected.
10:00
SPEAKER_05: Okay.
10:03
SPEAKER_05: It's just a mythological story.
10:05
SPEAKER_05: I find it funny watching celebrities trying to squeeze an epic into a checkbox.
10:09
SPEAKER_05: They don't get it.
10:10
SPEAKER_05: Mythology will outlast all ideological trends.
10:13
SPEAKER_05: Homer's work stands taller than modern morality.
10:16
SPEAKER_05: So just ignore Hollywood siren song.
10:17
SPEAKER_08: Yeah, dude, in Hollywood, all actors, they're they're they're pieces of shit.
10:21
SPEAKER_08: They're clowns, they're here to amuse you.
10:24
SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm funny how.
10:25
SPEAKER_02: I mean, funny, like I'm a clown, I amuse you.
10:28
SPEAKER_02: I make you laugh.
10:29
SPEAKER_02: I'm here to fing amuse you.
10:30
SPEAKER_08: They're there to amuse us.
10:32
SPEAKER_08: And then because they feel like such pieces of shit, they feel the need to get on these pedestals or they're and they tell you what's right and what's wrong and how to whatever.
10:44
SPEAKER_08: Oh, we're gonna fight for this, we're gonna do that.
10:46
SPEAKER_08: Just shut up.
10:46
SPEAKER_08: Because it I think they just feel like they're garbage people.
10:49
SPEAKER_08: Because when the shit hits the fan, they're the first to go.
10:54
SPEAKER_08: Like we don't need, you know, there are other things that are more important, many things that are more important than film.
10:59
SPEAKER_08: Film is great.
11:00
SPEAKER_08: I love film, but I don't have to have it, you know.
11:04
SPEAKER_08: These act Hollywood dude, they're such trash.
11:06
SPEAKER_05: Fuck them! Fuck up.
11:08
SPEAKER_05: Get you to crash into the rocks.
11:09
SPEAKER_05: Keep your sights focused on the real shore.
11:11
SPEAKER_05: No one can stand between me and home.
11:14
SPEAKER_05: I don't even know the gods.
11:16
SPEAKER_05: Defy the gods.
11:17
SPEAKER_05: There's that theme again, folks.
11:18
SPEAKER_05: That's shorthand for Nolan Screwing Homer.
11:21
SPEAKER_05: Fun fact Greek taxpayers forked over 6.5 million euros to fund that thing.
11:26
SPEAKER_08: Well, what we should document which shows that the Greek state granted 6.5 million euros directly from citizens' taxes as a subsidy to Chris Nolan's production.
11:40
SPEAKER_03: What the fuck?
11:42
SPEAKER_08: We read that the film was originally titled Charlie's Tale and not Odyssey, a title it was later changed to.
11:49
SPEAKER_08: Additionally, the Greek Ministry of Culture classifies it as fiction.
11:54
SPEAKER_08: Chris Nolan can cast a black hell in Athena, a Mexican Emmanuel, whatever, that's what's his face, a transgender Achilles or El Pinor, a Batman-like Agamemnon, yeah, Space Marines as the to go, I can't say it, or a black rapper as a Greek poet.
12:13
SPEAKER_08: He can base the script on all worst possible translation, one that distorts the entire meaning of the poems and even replace Argos the dog with a cat.
12:23
SPEAKER_08: What?
12:23
SPEAKER_08: But it will never be the Odyssey.
12:25
SPEAKER_08: It will be Charlie's Tale.
12:26
SPEAKER_08: Which is yeah, Christopher Nolan disrespected the Greeks, and we will never forget that.
12:30
SPEAKER_08: Dude, I bet you a lot of them are pissed.
12:33
SPEAKER_00: I can't believe this is happening.
12:35
SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's gonna be called this.
12:36
SPEAKER_08: Psyche.
12:38
SPEAKER_08: Psych.
12:39
SPEAKER_08: Thanks for paying for our movie, or some of it.
12:41
SPEAKER_08: Wow, dude.
12:43
SPEAKER_08: Wow.
12:44
SPEAKER_08: Wow.
12:44
SPEAKER_05: Something called Charlie's Tale.
12:46
SPEAKER_05: That was the original name of the movie.
12:47
SPEAKER_05: Yep.
12:48
SPEAKER_05: You got a lot of uzo money and Yahs pensions went into that.
12:50
SPEAKER_05: What the Greek Ministry of Culture officially classified as pure fiction.
12:54
SPEAKER_05: And that's Christopher Nolan's gift to everyone in 2026.
12:57
SPEAKER_05: Selling out to join the hyper-ventilating highings of the view to turn us all into logism.
13:03
SPEAKER_05: They want us blissed out, forgetting who we are, forgetting where we've come from.
13:06
SPEAKER_05: They want us to forget all the lessons the Odyssey has taught us to fight for.
13:09
SPEAKER_05: Father, mother, child, faith, country, all the virtues every young man needs to navigate this world today.
13:14
SPEAKER_08: Dude, yes, 100%, dude.
13:17
SPEAKER_08: This guy's killing it.
13:18
SPEAKER_08: They're trying to kill everything, you know?
13:20
SPEAKER_08: The what is it, the nuclear family.
13:22
SPEAKER_08: They're trying to get rid of any kind of if it's masculine, it's it's misogynistic, it's evil.
13:28
SPEAKER_08: It's like they're trying to make all males like beta pussy cuckboys, and you know, and everybody who's kind of a man who goes to work, provides for his family, maybe believes in God, tries to instill morals and and and integrity on their family.
13:46
SPEAKER_08: That's that's that's toxic masculinity, and that's no good.
13:50
SPEAKER_08: And like exactly, dude.
13:52
SPEAKER_08: Everything I'm see, this is how I put it, but he said it much better.
13:56
SPEAKER_08: Actually, I'm gonna I'm gonna go back to that.
13:58
SPEAKER_08: That was awesome.
13:59
SPEAKER_08: That was awesome.
14:02
SPEAKER_08: That was awesome.
14:04
SPEAKER_08: Blissed out is what he says, but just you know, not I don't know.
14:08
SPEAKER_08: I'll shut up.
14:08
SPEAKER_05: Forgetting where we've come from.
14:09
SPEAKER_05: They want us to forget all the lessons the honesty has taught us to fight for.
14:13
SPEAKER_05: Father, mother, child, faith, country.
14:15
SPEAKER_07: Yes! Hell yeah! Hey, come on, baby! Come on! Yes, come on, yes, all the virtues every young man needs to navigate this world today.
14:27
SPEAKER_05: Sacrifice, perseverance, heart honor, home.
14:30
SPEAKER_05: Yes.
14:30
SPEAKER_05: All in one book.
14:31
SPEAKER_05: Now I'll erase from a movie by bad choices.
14:34
SPEAKER_05: A quarter of a billion dollars to turn Homer into Hollywood product number 49.
14:38
SPEAKER_03: What the fuck?
14:38
SPEAKER_03: Where's my mother's house shoe when you need it?
14:40
SPEAKER_03: When I'm writing, I'm visualizing the film as an audience member, as somebody experiencing the story.
14:46
SPEAKER_03: So in the case of the audience, I've tried to put the audience into that horse.
14:51
SPEAKER_03: I try to put them on the deck of Odysseus's ship.
14:58
SPEAKER_03: God is so most important.
15:00
SPEAKER_03: It really does because I'm the audience.
15:01
SPEAKER_05: So how do you feel?
15:02
SPEAKER_05: You feel like you're on the deck of Odysseus's ship?
15:05
SPEAKER_05: Or up the horse's ass?
15:07
SPEAKER_05: Because that's the question people are asking right now.
15:08
SPEAKER_05: What's real?
15:09
SPEAKER_05: What's been replaced?
15:10
SPEAKER_05: What's been subverted?
15:11
SPEAKER_05: Nolan, wants you to feel how real it is, how much research he did, how much passion he has, all the little tiny details he obsessed over, down to how it sounds like.
15:19
SPEAKER_05: I promise you, there's not going to be any old sword and sample soundtrack for the man who hears Han Zimmer score every time he walks to McDonald's.
15:24
SPEAKER_05: No, sir.
15:25
SPEAKER_05: Orchestras did not exist back.
15:27
SPEAKER_08: Man, just think if Nolan, he said he's been wanting to do this for 20 years, so that's 2006.
15:32
SPEAKER_08: So he's doing Batman at the time.
15:34
SPEAKER_08: Just think if he had done this then, it would probably be one of the greatest movies of all time, forever.
15:40
SPEAKER_08: And you know what I mean?
15:41
SPEAKER_08: And now look at it, it's it's a joke.
15:44
SPEAKER_03: I tried to fart and all the shit came out.
15:45
SPEAKER_03: I just shorted.
15:46
SPEAKER_08: It's gonna win everything at the Oscars.
15:48
SPEAKER_08: All the stupid lib tards are gonna like, uh you know, and it's gonna make money, it is, because it looks fucking amazing.
15:58
SPEAKER_08: You look at it and you're like, oh man, why?
16:01
SPEAKER_08: So close, yes, so far.
16:03
SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
16:04
SPEAKER_05: That's what Nolan said.
16:05
SPEAKER_05: And apparently, authenticity is the only thing that matters now.
16:08
SPEAKER_05: So he bought 35 bronze gongs, a giant lyre, two synthesizers, and an IMAX camera.
16:12
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
16:13
SPEAKER_05: Who knew?
16:14
SPEAKER_05: IMAX did for ima hopulos.
16:16
SPEAKER_05: It's the one token Greek in the movie.
16:19
SPEAKER_05: Not in the movie.
16:19
SPEAKER_05: Imahoppous.
16:20
SPEAKER_05: Still to be fair, Nolan didn't have one thing.
16:22
SPEAKER_05: The stench.
16:23
SPEAKER_05: And he convinced an entire cast to shovel it.
16:26
SPEAKER_04: You didn't tell him, well, send me the script, we'll have a look.
16:28
SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, not that time.
16:29
SPEAKER_04: Why not?
16:30
SPEAKER_04: Well, if the director is that good, you can you could actually go without a script and you're gonna be alright.
16:36
SPEAKER_04: A good director can make a great script good.
16:38
SPEAKER_05: Matt's got to be the most honest thing anyone in Hollywood has said about this movie.
16:42
SPEAKER_05: A good director can make a great script good.
16:45
SPEAKER_05: Wow.
16:46
SPEAKER_08: Man, yeah, it seems like most films, whatever, go into production, they got a script, they got it planned, and it's a decent script.
16:54
SPEAKER_08: I mean, not every all of them.
16:56
SPEAKER_08: But then you get those certain films that just the script is trash, and they, you know, you hear all the stories, but those were kind of like few and far between, and now it's like flipped.
17:06
SPEAKER_08: Now everything has no script, scripts written by 50 million people, it sucks.
17:11
SPEAKER_08: The only movies that are good anymore are ones that are written by one person who's trying to write a good story, not put his his politics or his you know, whatever into it.
17:24
SPEAKER_08: And those are like far and few between now.
17:26
SPEAKER_08: So all we get is crap like this, man.
17:29
SPEAKER_08: So then people are gonna grow up with this thinking, like, oh, yeah, the and man, I don't know.
17:34
SPEAKER_08: See, that's what they're trying to exactly what he's saying, they're trying to change everything people hold dear, change the uh change the culture for the worse, you know?
17:46
SPEAKER_05: Just like that, the truth snuck out before Damon's public is spectacular.
17:50
SPEAKER_05: What it told us?
17:50
SPEAKER_05: Christopher Nolan didn't make the Odyssey, he made the ship of Theseus.
17:54
SPEAKER_05: You know, the Greeks had an old talk experiment about identity and change.
17:57
SPEAKER_05: What would happen if we replaced all the planks on Theseus' ship one at a time?
18:01
SPEAKER_05: One board, then another, then another until eventually someone asks, hey, if we replace all the planks, is it still the same ship?
18:08
SPEAKER_05: And the woman helping Nolan answer that question, the one who replaced all the planks, Dr.
18:12
SPEAKER_05: Emily Wilson.
18:13
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
18:14
SPEAKER_05: Didn't translate Homer.
18:15
SPEAKER_05: She put him on trial.
18:17
SPEAKER_00: An idea that this is the oddity.
18:19
SPEAKER_00: It's about an unproblematically heroic, male Western hero, investedly white, who is good because he coaches the bad guys, monsters, fowlers, and witchy women, and understands the value of hospitality.
18:27
SPEAKER_00: He's then the early who writes it down and got an Aonic exam.
18:29
SPEAKER_00: And the story has a happy ending because the good guy gets back with the objectified wife and regains all his wealth and all his slaves.
18:34
SPEAKER_08: And there it is.
18:34
SPEAKER_08: Oh my god.
18:35
SPEAKER_08: Ah shit, that was kind of quick.
18:37
SPEAKER_08: You know what?
18:38
SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna slow it.
18:39
SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna put it back.
18:40
SPEAKER_08: Because that right there, they're all trying to say, like, oh my gosh, no, she's not.
18:44
SPEAKER_08: She's not putting in feminism and all dude.
18:48
SPEAKER_08: Listen to exactly what she said.
18:50
SPEAKER_08: She says it right there.
18:52
SPEAKER_08: The author who translated Homer's object, because it's always been done by males, so a woman needs to do it.
19:00
SPEAKER_08: See, women are fucking women over, man.
19:02
SPEAKER_08: All these women that are like, oh, we gotta have women, just but then they they ruin it.
19:06
SPEAKER_08: Everything is ruined.
19:07
SPEAKER_08: Star Wars, women ruined it all.
19:09
SPEAKER_08: They're ruining everything.
19:12
SPEAKER_08: Stick to the kitchen.
19:15
SPEAKER_08: All right, here we go.
19:16
SPEAKER_00: An idea that this is the this is the odyssey.
19:18
SPEAKER_00: It's about an unproblematically heroic male Western hero, implicitly white, who is good because he crushes the bad guys, monsters, points, and witchy women, and understands the value of hospitality.
19:29
SPEAKER_00: Zen here, you write it down and get an A on the exam.
19:32
SPEAKER_01: When you talk to me like that, you forget you're talking to a man.
19:35
SPEAKER_08: Okay, just real quick for those that are watching.
19:38
SPEAKER_08: So she's kind of pointing out these covers, right?
19:40
SPEAKER_08: You can see the naked, sexy woman.
19:42
SPEAKER_08: See, that's the thing, too, is like now it's like, oh man, you can't show women in a sexy way.
19:47
SPEAKER_08: Men can be naked and be whatever, but women can't, you know.
19:51
SPEAKER_08: But yeah, men are the ones who go and watch and see these things and spend money.
19:55
SPEAKER_08: That's why movies are failing, because you know, all the sexy women they're you know, like look at the supergirl.
20:01
SPEAKER_08: She's she's not she's not ugly, but she's not attractive at all.
20:08
SPEAKER_08: And but yeah, it's this is more of the same bullshit, and it just sucks that it's for this movie, man.
20:16
SPEAKER_08: Like I might I would have gone to the theaters to see this.
20:18
SPEAKER_08: And I don't go to the theaters anymore.
20:20
SPEAKER_08: Every once in a great while, it's been a couple years now.
20:23
SPEAKER_08: I would have went for this if it wasn't all jacked up and stupid.
20:28
SPEAKER_08: But no, I won't even watch it when it's on Netflix.
20:31
SPEAKER_08: Fuck this trash.
20:33
SPEAKER_00: And the story has a happy ending because the good guy gets back with the objectified wife and regains all his wealth and all his slaves.
20:39
SPEAKER_05: And there it is, folks.
20:41
SPEAKER_05: Our ship not preserved, replaced.
20:46
SPEAKER_05: Forget the house shoe.
20:47
SPEAKER_05: It's wooden spoon time.
20:50
SPEAKER_05: One I wouldn't give for you to meet my uh if she were here right now, you would get a front row seat to watch this five foot two golden.
20:58
SPEAKER_08: So now it's a wooden spoon, the flip-flop, the wooden spoon.
21:01
SPEAKER_08: Okay, I'm gonna go back to uh the speed.
21:06
SPEAKER_08: All right, here we go.
21:07
SPEAKER_05: Here's great grandmother chase Emily Wilson around the Acropolis wielding a wooden spoon, and it would be a beautiful sight to see.
21:12
SPEAKER_05: Wilson will deserve every lap.
21:14
SPEAKER_05: Because what she basically said in her lecture was defining the Odyssey as toxic masculinity fanfiction.
21:18
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
21:19
SPEAKER_05: Nothing but a bunch of white dudes in bronze age tank tops high-fiving each other for killing monsters.
21:23
SPEAKER_08: So instead of trying to create their own feminist power, whatever, this and that, they just take over these masculine, you know, male stories and subvert it to the crap that we get.
21:39
SPEAKER_08: That's the whole plan.
21:41
SPEAKER_08: Cause I know no one's gonna watch the other shit.
21:44
SPEAKER_08: No one's gonna watch feminist bullshit.
21:47
SPEAKER_08: They gotta they gotta make it look like something else.
21:51
SPEAKER_08: It's like you got a feminist cake covered in chocolate, male masculine chocolate, and then you start eating, you're like, what the fuck is this?
21:57
SPEAKER_08: This ain't this ain't masculine cake.
22:00
SPEAKER_08: This is fucking nasty ass feminist schlopp.
22:03
SPEAKER_08: Oh my gosh, dude.
22:04
SPEAKER_08: Uh, it just sucks, man.
22:06
SPEAKER_07: You're gonna cry?
22:07
SPEAKER_07: You're gonna cry, titty baby?
22:09
SPEAKER_08: Oh, you're gonna fucking cry.
22:10
SPEAKER_08: It just sucks.
22:11
SPEAKER_08: I really was kind of wanting to watch this.
22:13
SPEAKER_05: Just crushing foreigners and witchy women all while collecting trophy wives.
22:19
SPEAKER_05: Yep.
22:19
SPEAKER_05: That's the map Nolan chose to navigate Homer with.
22:22
SPEAKER_05: Someone who treats our ancient heroes like villains and our cultural inheritance like a crime scene.
22:26
SPEAKER_05: Yep.
22:27
SPEAKER_05: Her history is supposed to be fertilizer for the future, not fuel for the fantasies of a faculty lounge freeloader.
22:32
SPEAKER_05: Just about where it all began.
22:33
SPEAKER_05: Damn.
22:34
SPEAKER_05: The Iliad.
22:34
SPEAKER_05: The Odyssey.
22:35
SPEAKER_05: Then we had Virgil's Aeneid.
22:37
SPEAKER_05: Then Dante inherited Virgil, Milton inherited both.
22:39
SPEAKER_05: Tolkien inherited all of them for thousands of years.
22:42
SPEAKER_08: Civilization I gotta read it, I guess.
22:43
SPEAKER_08: I gotta read it.
22:44
SPEAKER_08: I mean, I'll buy it.
22:45
SPEAKER_08: Let me know.
22:46
SPEAKER_08: Anyone listening who's read Homer's trilogy?
22:50
SPEAKER_08: Is it trilogy, right?
22:52
SPEAKER_08: You got the Iliad, the Odyssey, and there's one other one I can't think of.
22:56
unknown: You dumb fuck!
22:57
SPEAKER_08: If you've read something and it's good, let me know.
23:00
SPEAKER_08: I I gotta read it.
23:01
SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna have to buy and read it.
23:05
SPEAKER_05: Something to preserve, and then pass on to the next generation.
23:07
SPEAKER_05: Hollywood, academia.
23:09
SPEAKER_05: They treat it like it's an HGTV renovation.
23:12
SPEAKER_05: Oh, the foundation's got a little problem, the wives love their husbands too much, heroes are outdated.
23:16
SPEAKER_05: Masculinity is too manly.
23:18
SPEAKER_05: All got to go.
23:19
SPEAKER_06: But not to worry.
23:20
SPEAKER_05: Not to worry.
23:21
SPEAKER_05: We're gonna throw in a little diversity shiplap, but keep the name for resale value.
23:26
SPEAKER_00: My particular interest in the world.
23:27
SPEAKER_00: Exactly what it said, but you said it much better.
23:30
SPEAKER_00: Why is it that this particular field, the field of classical translations of Greek and Roman texts, has been so vastly male-dominated and a particular kind of male classicist, the very old white male classicist.
23:41
SPEAKER_00: Shut that cunt's mouth or I'll come over there and fuck Stoddard Hank.
23:44
SPEAKER_05: Wilson really does think this is about modern politics, these stories.
23:47
SPEAKER_05: She couldn't be more wrong.
23:48
SPEAKER_05: This is about us.
23:49
SPEAKER_05: It's a human story about real men, real women, and a flea-ridden dog who stared death itself in the eye and says, not today.
23:55
SPEAKER_05: My guy's coming home.
23:56
SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's the one I was talking about.
23:57
SPEAKER_05: For thousands of years, Argos is still making grown men cry.
24:00
SPEAKER_05: That's the Odyssey.
24:01
SPEAKER_05: It's beautiful.
24:02
SPEAKER_05: An epic poem about unconditional love, true loyalty, sacrifice, and respect for the divine order.
24:06
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Wilson takes one look at these stories, and she's a problem to be solved.
24:09
SPEAKER_05: Not a story to steward across time, but suspects to interrogate.
24:12
SPEAKER_05: Characters to corrupt.
24:13
SPEAKER_05: Take a look at her very first line versus Robert Fagel's.
24:15
SPEAKER_05: Tell me about a complicated man.
24:17
SPEAKER_05: Homer used the word for Odysseus Polytropus in Greek, the man of many turns, the cunning survivor who outwitted fate.
24:23
SPEAKER_05: Wilson just views him as another guest on the Oprah's couch, complaining that he was never breastfed as a baby.
24:28
SPEAKER_05: Mommy didn't give me no nipple.
24:30
SPEAKER_05: And she treated his crew even worse.
24:32
SPEAKER_05: In Homer, the demen died because of their own recklessness.
24:34
SPEAKER_05: In Wilson, they died because of Odysseus.
24:37
SPEAKER_05: He failed them, poor fools.
24:38
SPEAKER_05: One tiny change.
24:40
SPEAKER_05: Suddenly the hero vanishes, and we're left with a deadbeat king who never really cared about his crew.
24:44
SPEAKER_05: I could do this all day long.
24:46
SPEAKER_05: It's what took me so long to make this video.
24:47
SPEAKER_05: I had to finish reading Emily Wilson's book and then compare it to my fagles.
24:51
SPEAKER_05: But it's Helen of Troy that stands out as a starkist contrast.
24:54
SPEAKER_08: See, I could never do that, man.
24:56
SPEAKER_08: I've said it before.
24:56
SPEAKER_08: I could never watch films that I, for the most part, am expecting to suck, or listen to music that is I'm expecting to suck, or read a book that is I'm expecting to suck just to get I couldn't do it, man.
25:09
SPEAKER_08: Because you're the putty boy.
25:11
SPEAKER_05: Homer had Helen call herself Ginopilos.
25:13
SPEAKER_05: I can never pronounce that properly.
25:14
SPEAKER_05: Ginopilos.
25:16
SPEAKER_05: It's a Greek insult meaning dogface.
25:18
SPEAKER_05: It was usually reserved for those who cheated on their spouses.
25:21
SPEAKER_05: He wanted Helen to accept responsibility for starting the Trojan War.
25:24
SPEAKER_05: Wilson flips it on its head.
25:25
SPEAKER_05: She tries to play cute and be politically correct, defining it as hounded.
25:28
SPEAKER_05: Therefore, she shifts the blame to the men.
25:30
SPEAKER_05: She literally writes it in her notes that she goes, She made her Helen refrain from blaming herself for what men have done in her name.
25:38
SPEAKER_05: One ideological tweet like magic, poof.
25:41
SPEAKER_05: The Queen of Sparta goes from viper to victim.
25:44
SPEAKER_08: Oh shit.
25:44
SPEAKER_08: I wanted to read that.
25:45
SPEAKER_08: Poof.
25:46
SPEAKER_08: Okay, here we go.
25:46
SPEAKER_08: This is what I want to read.
25:47
SPEAKER_08: Derogatory link.
25:49
SPEAKER_08: Okay, many contemporary translators render Helen's quote-unquote dog face as if it were equivalent to shameless Helen or Helen the Bitch.
25:59
SPEAKER_08: I have kept the metaphor hounded and have also made sure that my Helen, like that of the original, refrains from blaming herself for what men have done in her name.
26:09
SPEAKER_08: But she did okay.
26:11
SPEAKER_08: See, no men, women oh geez.
26:13
SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
26:14
SPEAKER_07: Spit that shit up, man.
26:22
SPEAKER_03: One of the things I found as I was adapting it was it's basically all the other films have done before.
26:28
SPEAKER_03: All those stories are in there, whether you're talking about Interstellar or The Dark Knight, all these bits of bombs, they all come from the Odyssey.
26:33
SPEAKER_05: Let's try to follow his logic to its conclusion.
26:35
SPEAKER_05: What'd he say?
26:38
SPEAKER_08: Man, you know, honestly, I have to say I've never really I don't think I've ever seen that guy talk.
26:42
SPEAKER_08: I've only seen pictures of him in clips of videos and stuff, but he does kind of kind of come across as like really full of himself, huh?
26:52
SPEAKER_05: All in some way come from the Odyssey.
26:55
SPEAKER_05: Homer wrote the Odyssey.
26:57
SPEAKER_05: Christopher Nolan writes all his own movies.
27:00
SPEAKER_05: Baba.
27:01
SPEAKER_05: Nolan is Homer.
27:03
SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
27:03
SPEAKER_03: I mean, the the thing about Homer is yeah, it's it's the marvel of its day.
27:07
SPEAKER_05: That's his take, folks.
27:08
SPEAKER_05: That Homer was phase one of the MCU.
27:11
SPEAKER_05: Who knew he was the first Avenger?
27:12
SPEAKER_05: Now all we need is we have to wait for Odysseus to get his own Disney Plus series.
27:16
SPEAKER_05: Then they can put up the poster, Greeks assemble.
27:20
SPEAKER_05: That's Nolan trying to turn disrespect on the dogs, but hey, that's Hollywood.
27:23
unknown: Yeah.
27:24
SPEAKER_05: You know what the funny thing is is that adaptations aren't evil, they're human.
27:27
SPEAKER_05: Change is the only constant in life.
27:28
SPEAKER_05: But see, great adaptations preserve the soul of the story.
27:31
SPEAKER_05: HBO understood it when they made the wire.
27:33
SPEAKER_05: Mel Gibson understood it when he made Apocalypto and the Passion of the Christ.
27:36
SPEAKER_05: Help the Cohen brothers nailed it with, Oh, brother, where art thou?
27:39
SPEAKER_05: Real worlds, real languages, real people.
27:41
SPEAKER_05: And everybody bought into it because it was honest.
27:44
SPEAKER_05: That's the currency of the world today.
27:47
SPEAKER_05: Truth.
27:48
SPEAKER_05: And that's one of the reasons where Nolan lost me with lies.
27:51
SPEAKER_05: And the biggest one of them all was defining the Odyssey by three words.
27:56
SPEAKER_05: Defy the gods.
27:57
SPEAKER_05: Not home, not endure, not justice.
28:00
SPEAKER_05: Defy the gods.
28:02
SPEAKER_05: See, Odysseus, he wasn't rebelling against the cosmos.
28:07
SPEAKER_05: He was trying to navigate his way through it to get back home.
28:10
SPEAKER_05: He prayed, he sacrificed, he worshipped the thing.
28:12
SPEAKER_05: Belief was his compass, not rebellion.
28:14
SPEAKER_05: Only when his pride got the better of him did the gods punish him.
28:17
SPEAKER_05: Homer understood this.
28:18
SPEAKER_05: He knew back then what Hollywood has forgotten today.
28:21
SPEAKER_05: Faith, family, tradition, they were never chains.
28:24
SPEAKER_05: They're the anchor and the sail.
28:26
SPEAKER_05: The Odyssey had survived for 3,000 years because it's our story, a human story.
28:30
SPEAKER_05: We wake up every day, face our own demons, fight our own storms just to get back to our Ithaca, our home.
28:36
SPEAKER_05: Even when broken, we return unbeaten to try again.
28:39
SPEAKER_05: So will the Odyssey survive, no one?
28:41
SPEAKER_05: You bet your ass.
28:43
SPEAKER_05: And one day, all that'll be left of Hollywood is a tombstone.
28:46
SPEAKER_05: Carved in it will be three little words.
28:49
SPEAKER_05: Homer says hello.
28:52
SPEAKER_08: Alright, so George the Giant Slayer, I'll put the link to his channel so you can check it out.
28:59
SPEAKER_08: But yeah, man, it's just it's it sucks because and yeah, think about that, man.
29:05
SPEAKER_08: Those stories are yeah, 3,000 years old.
29:08
SPEAKER_08: The stupid Wilson bitch won't her shit's gonna, you know, a couple years from now, no one's gonna care.
29:15
SPEAKER_08: There'll be a few, you know, hairy, armpitted feminists that, you know, oh my god, it's so great.
29:21
SPEAKER_08: But they probably don't even really read it.
29:23
SPEAKER_08: It just sucks.
29:23
SPEAKER_08: You really, you know, Hollywood is fake and bullshit.
29:26
SPEAKER_08: You know, you you always know it, but there's there's always a few directors and producers and actors that seem to steer clear of it most of the time.
29:35
SPEAKER_08: Nolan was looking to be one of those until this came out, and it's just like, and it's not that I won't watch his other movies again, or it's not that I won't even not watch the next movie he comes out with, but I'm definitely not gonna watch this.
29:50
SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
29:51
SPEAKER_08: So hopefully he learns a lesson, and again, I think it's gonna make money, it's just not gonna make as much money as it could have if they would have done it right, but we'll see.
30:01
SPEAKER_08: Anyway, let me know what you think.
30:03
SPEAKER_08: Thanks for hanging out.
30:04
SPEAKER_08: I appreciate your time.
30:05
SPEAKER_08: God bless.
30:16
SPEAKER_07: There were many brave souls on the lonely farm for like the wild.
