- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Rebound relationships, healing, or escaping.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: The value in solitude and growth, our big fuck up.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: When kids replaced your spouse.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I broke up to grow faster.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Moral Marriage Podcast, guys.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And this one, I'm not sure how you're gonna take it because I know a lot of you are looking for justification validation to break up so that you can actually grow.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's everywhere, but I know I hear about it all the time in our program.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And what I mean is the thought comes up.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: I had a man today on a coaching call talking about how now, well, first I should clarify.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: He clarified and he said, I've been here.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: This is not the I've been in the shadows girl, that was one of Catherine's women from last episode was talking about.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: There's a man who said, I've been here and I I know his name, so he's been on enough calls, so I know him.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Um, and he said, I just haven't been speaking, I haven't been putting my hand up to talk.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: But what's happened in the last couple months is he broke up with his wife, and he said, I did that so I could grow faster.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Now I wanted to cover this for you because I don't think we've ever covered this topic, okay?
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And I want to clarify a few things.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I can count on one hand the amount of people that I've asked them to reflect, and we have never made the actual decision together.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And the reflection would have been do you think that we need to let her go so you can actually grow in your own path on your own journey?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Meaning this person is anchoring you, this person is holding you back.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And the reason why I say out of 8,000 people, less than five people, is because almost always that's not gonna work for you.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you why.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: If you can't do it with the person that hurts you the most right now, what makes you think you're gonna do it with the next one?
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: If you can't do and we used other examples when we talk about this during coaching, right?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: If you can't stop yourself from eating a fucking cheeseburger when you know you want more, what makes you think changing to tacos is gonna work?
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Like literally, like You're just gonna eat too many tacos.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like if you can't stop yourself from being broke because you're like you're you're gonna constrain yourself, okay, Facebook ads don't work, or whatever the thing is, what makes you think working for the man is gonna do it or starting another business is gonna do it?
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Like, if you can't do it under pressure, regardless of what that pressure is and what your situation is, you're literally why are you changing only some of the variables without changing the variable that matters the most, which is the common denominator?
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: We got a little junior high math here.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thank you.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Like it's so clear to me.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Now, this person has already ended it.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Now they still have a business relationship, and he he's like trying to figure out what they're gonna be, but right now I can focus on me.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Listen, this is the very first thing I when I say what what is it the the number one thing you want to work on with you right now?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I'm not even challenging the fact that he broke up with her.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, that was two months ago, okay?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: What I'm saying is what so what's the number one thing that you want to want to focus on for your growth?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: My insecurity.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: How in the fuck are you gonna work on insecurity without a wife, without somebody to be insecure about?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Like, how do you how are you gonna test that theory?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Like, what what what what are you thinking here?
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Like, I know you can look at because I teach insecurity much different than therapists and other people.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we look at any other fear, but you fucked up the big fear of what could happen if you could do this right, if it will ever work, if they will ever trust you.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: So what the fuck are you doing?
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Or the big fear of what happens if I lose my wife?
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: Well, now there's nothing to be insecure about anymore.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: You just you didn't even lose her, you gave her away.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, which means you so hear me clearly I want to work on myself, my insecurity.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: It'll be easier if I'm not with her, and so I'm gonna give into my insecurity and what I could believe in myself, another insecurity you have, by the way, if you're listening, and you're gonna do that.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: How?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Dude, you you you didn't you didn't catch a drift of what I was talking about teaching you.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: That's why you didn't say anything for two months, because you didn't want to be told you were wrong.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Tie this back to more obvious things.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: If someone lives without their partner, i.e., some of you allow your partner to have space, you respect their boundaries with that whole thing, you're essentially enabling them to see what life feels like without you.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: You're enabling them to live without you.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Which is what they're asking for.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And so, how are you getting what you want?
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: You're giving them what they want.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: If they ask for space, you're giving it to them.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: They're seeing how wonderful it is without you.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Where's the logic?
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Listen, here's how you grow faster.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: You do the hard shit, the shit that scares you.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: You you do the things that challenge you.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: You know, if it's business, it's the boring work, the things you don't want to do.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: If it's working out, it's almost always the exercise that's hardest for you.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Or the muscle group that's hardest for you.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: In your relationship, it's having the hard conversations, but using the tools that you didn't want to learn because they were difficult.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Listen, I know that you can address insecurity on your own and grow faster without somebody.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I know that because you don't have the outside noise.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: But the problem is you will never actually be able to test it.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: If you can't test it, you don't know what's actually working.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: If you can't test something, you don't know what's working.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: You need data.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Now, you could do a bunch of work and then go test with the next.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: What are you doing to your fucking children?
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: So, what are you making them part of your fancy experiment for?
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Like there's so many other factors I can throw at you.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: If you want to grow faster, do the shit that makes you more confident.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Do the shit that you would never think is possible.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: When Catherine talks about why she's with me today, she one of the things she says is no one will do the work that you'll do.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Listen, she could have left, and everybody praises Catherine for staying in.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, I want your superwoman power, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Or they hate me for staying.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: That's not you guys listening.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: But but you know what?
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I should have left too.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: I was the ultra victim.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I could have focused on my growth without her too.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: This is no different than um we talked about reading the book.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm on the last episode.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so um leaving her so that you can do the work and then test it on the next person.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: That's like reading the book and not actually doing what it is that we teach.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: That's exactly what that's like.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: So you can leave, you can work on yourself, but you're working on yourself in a vacuum where no one's testing you, no one's triggering you, no one's questioning you, no one's loving you, no one is there to be with you so that you can even test and implement the things that you're learning.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: It's like in one ear out the other.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: So do it on your own and then bring it into your next relationship where now all of a sudden you don't actually.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: I think I compared it to calculus in the next one, in the last episode.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you learned calculus, and then if you haven't used it, you're gonna go, you think you're gonna go learn everything that you're learning in a vacuum and then and then practice it in a relationship.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: No, there's a reason that couples therapy exists, there's a reason that coaching exists when you're in a relationship.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: It's not pre-coaching, it's coaching in your situation.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Even premarital counseling is for the couple in the relationship.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: I don't think anybody in on the planet or in the universe ever said, hey, go break up with your partner, learn all the skills that you need to learn, and then use them in the future, theoretically, if you ever get a partner again.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's ever existed.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Or to get your partner back.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of you, that's what you're thinking too.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And guys, guys, we have to do that because I mean, look at that one story.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: If you have no choice, then you might have to use it to get your partner back.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: But you don't choose that reality.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: No, you don't.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: If it happens, it happens.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: We have stories like that.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: We talked about one recently, but we have seen it time and time again.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Yes, divorce can happen.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Yes, you can save it again.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: But the idea is not to make it harder on you to get the goal that you want.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Who says that?
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: In order to get the goal that I want, can I please make this as difficult as fucking possible?
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And by the way, you're forgetting all the reasons that you were committed in the first place.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: That is something deeper to work on.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Well, it might be easier though to leave your partner.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's not as difficult as possible, but then you're yellow.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Then you're taking the easy way out.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, I can't do it because she's so difficult.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: I can't do it because she's so difficult.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: I can't grow with him.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, you think I could have grown with this one?
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Uh huh.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: That's the part that got that, and that's actually what I said on the coaching call today.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: You you grow the most when you're in the highest pressure situations.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: Where does that come from?
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: The diamond, I think it is.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: It is a diamond.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: How do you think that coal turns into a diamond?
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: It's pressure.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: I want to revisit something before I forget because Catherine mentioned something earlier.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Uh instead of calculus, I want you to think about it more practically because I think everybody in the United States knows somebody who served.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: I want you to ask them about what served, like in war.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Like, so so I want you to ask them what it's like when they have all their you can ask a police officer, EMT, anything.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Anyone who's learned emergency response training, okay?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: I want you to ask them what it was like the first time they had to implement using their skills.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: They're shit in their fucking pants.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Do you think they just said this isn't for me?
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go practice some more.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go to use the dummy over there instead of save this person's life.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: No, you go, you go take care of it, sir.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: I I'm gonna just I gotta practice some more.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Pressure makes good at it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: What a good analogy, honey.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: So I want you guys to consider something.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: The last thing that I told this man, I know I lost it because I got sidetracked.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: I don't know what you told him.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know either.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Anyways, my point is this oh, this is what it was.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: That every single person that is, I use this twice today, once on the men's call, once on the women's call, for various reasons.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: But when somebody is separated from their partner, they wish they could be with their partner to implement faster.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: When somebody is with their partner and they see the other people identifying who they are, all these other things that they learn, the find yourself shit.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: In other words, grow faster, they wish it was the other way around.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: I look at it like this.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: I wish I could put on weight easier.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Some people, like somebody who has easier time putting weight on, would like to slap me for saying that.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Because we all my wife, just slap me.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: It was a gentle slap.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Nobody, not all the women are like, why does it want to put weight on?
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: I slap all of you on there.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: You're welcome.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: So, what I want you to see is not what she's gonna do with me that slapping after I shut the camera off, but what I want you to see is we all want what we can't have.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: We all want what we don't have, we all envy others, we all try to make it easier on ourselves instead of realizing that when you look at somebody who has what you want, you have to, have to start looking at, well, how did they get there?
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: We all took the hard road.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: There was no easy path, no matter what avenue or uh path you're taking to the goal that you want, none of us got there.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Like people look at Elon Musk right now, first guy across a trillion dollars net worth.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: And they're criticizing how much charity he gives.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's this fucking laundry list of judgment.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: The guy's not worth half of it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: But if you cared, your like I think he's worth like 200 million, uh two, two or is it three billion?
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Not the trillion that that like that's what he gets personally, and you want to judge that, but proportionally, the money you make.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: This is crazy that I like people are talking about this all the time now.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: The money that you make proportionally, you give less than him.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: But you're fucking judging him.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: But you know what?
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: He took the hard road and started doing more than you, and then you still and you see this whole life that he has, and you use it to judge him so that you can quit.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Well, he's not doing it, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Because you didn't do any basic math.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Not even the calculus she's talking about.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: You didn't even do basic math to figure that out.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: This is going around the internet like wildfire right now.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: It's really crazy.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Good, I'm glad.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Anyways, the last thing that I want to leave you with before I shut this down today is simple.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: You want what we have.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: That's why you listen to this podcast.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, what is it now?
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: We're like almost 500 episodes.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: We're like 1.5 million downloads.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: We're like the fastest growing marriage podcast.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: You want what we have.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: Then heck, I want what we have.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: That sounds amazing.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: I didn't know those were our stats.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Well, we're responsible for it, baby.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Um, so here's the thing: if you want it, then don't do it your way.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: The reason why this man didn't raise his hand for a couple months was because he wanted to make his own decision instead of being coached.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: He wanted to make his own decision so he could do it his way.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And the truth is he delayed himself two months of growth.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Because he actually has done nothing.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Actually, he apologized ten times because he didn't even know what he was saying.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: So much for growing without the girl.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: He he said the words out loud several times.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what I'm trying to say.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: I said, Do you know what you're trying to ask several times?
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I said, I think this is what you mean.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Is that right?
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: I declarify.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: That's how little he's grown in in two or three months, whatever it's been.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say several, two or three months.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Do you think it was worth it to leave his wife?
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: See, he's still looking for validation that he did the right thing months later, can't communicate.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Do you think he he did anything right?
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Why don't you get the help that you you think you need?
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: One quick thing.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: So just on the note, and this is just kind of cute, kind of funny, but on the everybody wants what they can't have.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: So I went to my very first year in college, I had a roommate.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: Her name was Heather.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: We could not have been more different, but she would tell funny stories, and she told a story about when she was a little girl.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: She was probably, I don't know, let's say three or four.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: And she had like reddish brown in her hair, and her mom always used to cut it short.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: And so she, the first time she ever went to a real hairdresser, her the hairdresser said, What do you want with your hair?
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: And she said, Long blonde and curly, please.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: Because she wanted exactly what she didn't have.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: And as a child, you just think like, oh, I see it, I want it.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: You don't realize what it doesn't mean that she can't have long brown blonde and curly hair.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: She might have it now.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: But what does it take to go from short, red, and bob cut hair to long, blonde, and curly?
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: Well, you have to do the work to get there.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean you can't have it.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: So I just thought that was really cute.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: She just because k kids, this means you're thinking like a child.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: You want what somebody else has, but you're not willing to do, or in this case, this is a little girl she didn't know, but you are not a three-year-old child wanting long, brown and curly.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: You are an adult male or an adult female that's saying, Hey, I want that.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: I don't think I can have it, so I'm just gonna give up.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna have it anymore because uh oh, I'm gonna give up my wife.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do it my way because I can't have long blonde curly, so I'm gonna be by myself over here short, fat, and bald, or whatever the so awesome.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: The red gimme another one.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know that if you're redheaded, you can't necessarily go out into the sun the same way.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: There's just a thing with it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Because you're a vampire?
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Uh no, it's like burning, burning.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: And so, but here's the thing: the amount of red-headed people I've talked to that wish they could tan differently, man, there are things you can take, peptides, for example, that could give you a tan.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: Do you know how white I am underneath this tan?
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: You guys don't know.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: I've worked my entire life to be able to have this color skin that I like because I am white, white, white, white, white, see-through white.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: You can see two of our children are like see-through white.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: I worked really hard.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: No, seriously, it's genetic.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: But I have this beautiful tan.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: I live in Texas, and I don't have to wear a lot of sunscreen because I worked on it.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: See?
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Redheads can do it too.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: We're on a tangent now.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: You said redheads can do it too.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, reds.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Redheads can do red heads can be soaking the beautiful blonde.
