- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on, everybody?
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher Adam Kaplan Inside the Birds here in
- 0:18Speaker 1: the middle of the week, as the Eagles are preparing
- 0:20Speaker 1: to face the San Francisco forty nine ers in the
- 0:23Speaker 1: wild Card round Sunday four point thirty, kickoff at the Link,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and hey, why don't we just start off with your
- 0:30Speaker 1: favorite wheelhouse, Adam. I mean, the weather is pretty interesting
- 0:33Speaker 1: because every time we check it, the one thing that
- 0:35Speaker 1: we're for sure of is that it's going to be
- 0:38Speaker 1: somewhat mild for January at the late, especially for this winter,
- 0:41Speaker 1: it's been very cold.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Yes as we as we speak here on Thursday morning. Okay,
- 0:47Speaker 3: you know mister weather, right.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah, tropical storm chaplain?
- 0:51Speaker 3: H I miss that? Yeah, So right now, again, I
- 0:55Speaker 3: don't give a crap what happened before the game. It's irrelevant.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I do like care what happens doing it again because
- 0:59Speaker 3: four yesters don't understand like these do it. They do
- 1:03Speaker 3: it for a living. They'll like it'll be like some
- 1:04Speaker 3: local channel, oh boy, it's gonna be windy on Sunday,
- 1:07Speaker 3: But they never talk about what happens in during the game, right,
- 1:10Speaker 3: it only matters it is going to be windy. Okay,
- 1:12Speaker 3: let's let's get to it, because of course it is,
- 1:14Speaker 3: yep yep. So yeah, it's just a funny four to
- 1:17Speaker 3: twenty five regular season. You know, if this is the
- 1:19Speaker 3: right and it's gotta be four thirty, you know, I
- 1:21Speaker 3: gotta do it at four thirty, right, when's fourteen to
- 1:24Speaker 3: sixteen mile an hour. The gus are the problem. It's
- 1:27Speaker 3: always about gus thirty to thirty two miles an hour
- 1:29Speaker 3: throughout the game.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Second, maybe a mild for this winter, my friend, Oh, but.
- 1:34Speaker 3: They actually know. But they actually had two games in
- 1:36Speaker 3: the third load of mid thirty gus, So that's true.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It won't rain. We're getting the rain in the morning
- 1:40Speaker 3: if it rains at all. But hey, like you said, though,
- 1:43Speaker 3: they've That's what you're alluding to, is they they've been
- 1:46Speaker 3: through this. They know jer Jalen's got a strong arm
- 1:48Speaker 3: than party knows that matters. By the way, talk to
- 1:52Speaker 3: any coach, would you rather have a guy who's a
- 1:54Speaker 3: touch passer or guy who could drive the football? Now,
- 1:56Speaker 3: accuracy matters. We all we that's everything else. We're just
- 2:00Speaker 3: at arm strength. Yeah, I've never met a coacher didn't
- 2:02Speaker 3: want to a player at armstrength.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, never met one. Of course, you want to arm
- 2:06Speaker 1: talent and that. Now, perty's not like a pillow thrower.
- 2:09Speaker 1: He can throw the ball, but you're right, is not.
- 2:11Speaker 1: His arm isn't as strong as more of a touch guy.
- 2:14Speaker 2: For sure it helps him. Yeah, he is good. He's good.
- 2:17Speaker 3: He's got an interesting good quarterback.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting way of playing the game. Absolutely, So let's
- 2:24Speaker 2: just say this.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Okay, people can second guess or criticize or complain all
- 2:28Speaker 1: they want about Nick Sirianni's decision to arrest most of
- 2:31Speaker 1: his starters and then only get the three seed, but
- 2:34Speaker 1: it is undeniable that the Eagles will have the health
- 2:39Speaker 1: advantage in this matchup by about thirty miles.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Okay, they are as healthy as healthy can be.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Twenty one of twenty two starters were on the practice
- 2:49Speaker 1: field Wednesday. Now that doesn't mean everything is hunky dory,
- 2:53Speaker 1: but it is sure a much better sign than the Niners,
- 2:57Speaker 1: who have some really key players not only just on
- 3:00Speaker 1: not only on injured reserve, but some who they're hoping
- 3:02Speaker 1: to have ready who were not on the practice field
- 3:05Speaker 1: on Wednesday, including Trent Williams. And there I always say
- 3:08Speaker 1: it's like they're a different team sometimes when they don't
- 3:10Speaker 1: have Trent Williams.
- 3:11Speaker 2: He's that good.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So there's no argument about who has the advantage in
- 3:15Speaker 1: this in this in this matchup from a health standpoint.
- 3:20Speaker 3: That's why you know it's funny. You and I talked
- 3:21Speaker 3: about two weeks ago, and I said, I'm pretty certain
- 3:23Speaker 3: he was going to wrest their starters. I know you
- 3:25Speaker 3: didn't seem to agree with it, but you we both
- 3:27Speaker 3: stayed at our cases. I said, man, I learned my
- 3:29Speaker 3: lesson from Andy Reid, who then would later change his
- 3:31Speaker 3: mind with a Chiefs. But when he was at the Eagles,
- 3:34Speaker 3: and I remember distinctly walking out of the authorium like, coach,
- 3:37Speaker 3: what why are you read?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Like?
- 3:38Speaker 4: What?
- 3:39Speaker 3: As a reporter, you just take your information and you
- 3:42Speaker 3: disseminate it. I just said, I can you just explain
- 3:44Speaker 3: it to me, because it's real simple. My job is
- 3:46Speaker 3: to get my pleasures the next game. He goes. He
- 3:50Speaker 3: was kind of saying he didn't really care what the
- 3:51Speaker 3: media thought. He would never say that, but I wasn't
- 3:54Speaker 3: being dismissive of a new ROUSI to me to my question,
- 3:58Speaker 3: I just want to understand it better because I'm trying
- 3:59Speaker 3: to because I have to explain it to other people,
- 4:02Speaker 3: and goes, look, there's obviously a benefit to getting your
- 4:05Speaker 3: players on grass and get the feel for it of
- 4:07Speaker 3: the last game, but they had a buy coming up.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Sometimes you don't want to have two weeks off, you know.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But this is different because he goes had to play
- 4:16Speaker 3: the next week. We're talking about this this Currantine, not
- 4:18Speaker 3: Andy's back last time to made the playoffs, whatever that
- 4:20Speaker 3: was with Eagles so many. Then Andy started and it
- 4:23Speaker 3: shocked me. He started playing his players in the last
- 4:26Speaker 3: week if he thought they needed to work. Belichick would
- 4:28Speaker 3: do that.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes you learn from your experience.
- 4:32Speaker 1: This is a different feeling when you have the number
- 4:34Speaker 1: one seed and then you have a meaningless season finale
- 4:37Speaker 1: followed by a bye week. Right, then you don't want
- 4:40Speaker 1: some coaches, I shouldn't say you some coaches, And I
- 4:43Speaker 1: think Andy learned this that it's not good when you
- 4:46Speaker 1: have that to just have nobody on the on the
- 4:48Speaker 1: grass for two weeks. So that that's why I think
- 4:51Speaker 1: he adapted along the way he did.
- 4:54Speaker 3: And then the one that's done me last week, Sean
- 4:56Speaker 3: me Vay's mister rest. That's what they should call him. Yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 3: never play his players in the preseasons. He became their
- 5:01Speaker 3: head coach at twenty seventeen, still the same. I kind
- 5:05Speaker 3: of laughed because he never really said he'd play them
- 5:07Speaker 3: the whole game. So he says, oh, we're playing to win,
- 5:10Speaker 3: our stars are playing, but he never said the whole game.
- 5:12Speaker 3: And I was dubious, like, he's not gonna play the
- 5:14Speaker 3: whole game. He sure as hell did.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah, he shot me.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yep, I'm like, what does he have him on their
- 5:18Speaker 3: fantasy team?
- 5:19Speaker 2: No, I'm just kidding. I just was shocked.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I was like, wow, this is as you said. Players
- 5:27Speaker 3: are allowed to change players, coaches are allowed to change
- 5:29Speaker 3: their mind, and he felt like they needed the work
- 5:33Speaker 3: because they didn't look good down stretch in his opinion
- 5:36Speaker 3: based on whatever he saw off their coaching tape. He
- 5:39Speaker 3: knows his players better than anyone else does, and he said,
- 5:41Speaker 3: we're going to play them, and they destroyed the Cardinals, who,
- 5:45Speaker 3: unfortunately far their head coach was nineteen games out of
- 5:47Speaker 3: five hundred. Jonathan Gannon But oh, well, yep, that's that.
- 5:51Speaker 3: But yeah, it's so. When you and I were talking
- 5:55Speaker 3: about this a couple of weeks ago, I said, look, man,
- 5:57Speaker 3: I hear you. They need to work. They're not a
- 6:00Speaker 3: great team. They're not as good as last year, which
- 6:02Speaker 3: is perfectly true, but you have to have the feel
- 6:05Speaker 3: forget getting your guys to that next game. I just
- 6:07Speaker 3: using the andy phrase. Yeah, and they're they're one of
- 6:12Speaker 3: the top three healthiest teams in the National Footballague this
- 6:14Speaker 3: season and a game a man games misses the term
- 6:17Speaker 3: I charted that stuff. It's just it's other than Akuba
- 6:20Speaker 3: by the way he broke his ancle. That's it, right,
- 6:23Speaker 3: I mean when you look at their inter reserve list. Okay,
- 6:25Speaker 3: but we need to mention ass O Jeli was activating
- 6:28Speaker 3: in the twenty one day window, which which makes sense
- 6:32Speaker 3: because let's say, let's say during the rest of the season,
- 6:37Speaker 3: obviously's the player. Let's say they make it the championship game. Well, yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 3: that will that's around one of the twenty one day
- 6:42Speaker 3: windows expires, and let's say somebody gets hurt. Sure you know.
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's yeah, you gotta ask that. You might as well
- 6:49Speaker 2: use it right the best you can. Yeah, absolutely right.
- 6:52Speaker 3: So here the guys on ir Oji who just talked
- 6:54Speaker 3: about uh Obo Conkroe, who he had a very he
- 6:58Speaker 3: had a bad injury, so he's not coming back. Uh
- 7:01Speaker 3: Macouba Miles Hinton who has never activated, he's out. He
- 7:05Speaker 3: can't come back till the spring. Go practice the spring.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Johnny Wilson who had a very bad injury, mansumer and
- 7:11Speaker 3: very bad injury. They never activated. Willie Lampkin. Brandon Johnson
- 7:15Speaker 3: had that unfortunate injury. You saw him in the locker room,
- 7:17Speaker 3: the ankle injury, and.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Hugh, I feel for that kid.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you said that, Yeah, you saw him. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 3: it's uh, you wanted to practice squad IR because he
- 7:25Speaker 3: had he reverted back to IR that the practice for
- 7:27Speaker 3: then they put him in I R. That's it. No,
- 7:30Speaker 3: So it's a health matters man. I got to give
- 7:35Speaker 3: I got to give Howie credit, Nick credit, and their
- 7:38Speaker 3: medical staff. They all it all works together because you
- 7:41Speaker 3: have to as a general manager. You have to know
- 7:43Speaker 3: how your players are being trained. You have to communicate
- 7:46Speaker 3: well with your your training staff. Nick has to be
- 7:48Speaker 3: on board through discussions.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You know what.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Maybe we did it differently elsewhere, but it's about getting
- 7:54Speaker 3: these guys yeah healthy and yeah, I get that. I
- 7:59Speaker 3: respect that people were super pissed off at the Eagle
- 8:01Speaker 3: or at Sirianni and maybe Howie, if you've inviolved some
- 8:03Speaker 3: of he's involved in. It susion to rest players because
- 8:06Speaker 3: they didn'tet the number two seed, although honestly they had
- 8:09Speaker 3: every opportunity to do it last week. Yep, but they didn't.
- 8:13Speaker 3: You know. So oh well, but here we are and
- 8:15Speaker 3: they're healthy, and that there's no excuse that noters have
- 8:18Speaker 3: many excuses WHI we're going to get to in a minute.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Absolutely, let's talk about some of the guys though, that
- 8:24Speaker 1: are on the practice field or were on Wednesday, because
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think this is this is very interesting. You and
- 8:29Speaker 1: I probably talk about this, maybe more so than others
- 8:32Speaker 1: about certain injuries, like we did with Cam Latsu when
- 8:36Speaker 1: he had the stinger, but he was able to practice
- 8:38Speaker 1: on Friday.
- 8:38Speaker 2: But we said, guys, don't this is.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The one injury where you don't look at it and
- 8:43Speaker 1: say just because he's questionable and practice on Friday, it's
- 8:45Speaker 1: a it's a guarantee given because these are weird and
- 8:48Speaker 1: tricky injuries. So let's talk about Lane Johnson and Nikobe
- 8:52Speaker 1: Dean who are out on the practice field on Wednesday.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I think for the for the people who listen to
- 8:58Speaker 1: this on you know, Thursday, late today's practice is really
- 9:03Speaker 1: important for Lane because he has this is his first
- 9:06Speaker 1: time out on the practice field, taking vertical reps and
- 9:08Speaker 1: things like that, you know, in real practice environment. Since
- 9:11Speaker 1: he went on so I wasn't the Bears game. That's
- 9:14Speaker 1: a long time ago that he was. He came off
- 9:17Speaker 1: the field. How he responds to that practice is important.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So while it's a great first step to get him
- 9:24Speaker 1: out there, the whole team in the medical staff really
- 9:26Speaker 1: wants to know Thursday morning, Hey, Lane, how are you
- 9:29Speaker 1: feeling after that kind of practice and are you able
- 9:32Speaker 1: to be able to do it again and then again?
- 9:34Speaker 2: That is a big step. So he's cleared step one.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But just because he's out there on Wednesday, I just
- 9:40Speaker 1: want to question people don't definitively think everything is great.
- 9:44Speaker 3: It's funny Kyle Shanahan, like his dad he's talked about,
- 9:47Speaker 3: he cautions when things are looking good, he goes, hey,
- 9:49Speaker 3: let's see how he does tomorrow. That's your rep. You're
- 9:52Speaker 3: right to mention that. Look, the chances are good that
- 9:55Speaker 3: Dean will be in the lineup, but he didn't take
- 9:57Speaker 3: all the first team reps on Wednesday, So this is
- 10:00Speaker 3: for as you said, he's been out he missed two games,
- 10:03Speaker 3: but he's been out longer than that. Yeah, so it's
- 10:06Speaker 3: in terms of just not practicing. So things are looking
- 10:11Speaker 3: up for him, but he's got to get through practice.
- 10:12Speaker 3: So here's what happened. This is actually a positive. It
- 10:15Speaker 3: doesn't mean he's playing, but Green calcuterror. They took the
- 10:17Speaker 3: knee off of the injury poart. Remember he bent his
- 10:20Speaker 3: knee back on that hit what looked like to be
- 10:21Speaker 3: a hip drop tackle. The the the knee part of
- 10:25Speaker 3: it was taken off. The ankle was not. That's the
- 10:27Speaker 3: injuries in ankle sprain. It looked bad. It looked like
- 10:30Speaker 3: in the high ankle area. So it would be pretty
- 10:33Speaker 3: surprising if you play. But we'll see what happens and
- 10:35Speaker 3: lots two will fill in for him if you can't play.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Brett Toth had the concussion. So you know it's six
- 10:41Speaker 3: and a half to seven days for an average the
- 10:44Speaker 3: league average on concussion recovery. Doesn't mean he's playing, by
- 10:47Speaker 3: the way. I'm just giving you what the league says.
- 10:50Speaker 3: So we'll see. Carter had the Carter had the hip
- 10:52Speaker 3: injury last week. He got some work in Apps had
- 10:55Speaker 3: the concussion. Here's the thing you got he had symptoms
- 10:58Speaker 3: last Thursday. This is a good thing. He was out there,
- 11:01Speaker 3: so he's progressing through the protocol. So let's see. It's
- 11:04Speaker 3: not a lock got her with a knee. It's the
- 11:07Speaker 3: same injury he was listed with last week. Bark something unforeseen.
- 11:10Speaker 3: He should be playing in the lineup. Jalen Phillips. It
- 11:13Speaker 3: was the ankle which he heard against Buffalo. He took
- 11:16Speaker 3: all his first team reps barring a shat back. He
- 11:19Speaker 3: will be in the lineup and Lane Lane. This is
- 11:23Speaker 3: his first work in nearly two months. Let's it's about
- 11:29Speaker 3: this game. I get it. Let's just it's a midfoot sprain.
- 11:32Speaker 3: He's never had this type of injury before. He's got
- 11:36Speaker 3: as Aaron Bordman, our friend who used to be an
- 11:39Speaker 3: assistant athletic trainer with the Eagles and Chiefs told us
- 11:41Speaker 3: when he he said, treating this injury and getting a
- 11:44Speaker 3: player ready, you generally have to wear a different shoe.
- 11:47Speaker 3: It's awkward, it's different, it's not easy. It doesn't mean
- 11:50Speaker 3: he can't play. Lane knows his body. You saw in
- 11:54Speaker 3: Hard Knocks, folks, if you're watching it. It was really
- 11:56Speaker 3: cool that they were able to go to Lane's house
- 11:58Speaker 3: and see him work out in his him and train
- 12:01Speaker 3: it and do the the lifts on his ackle. You
- 12:04Speaker 3: get the foot strong. So uh, we'll see. And in
- 12:07Speaker 3: Fred Johnson is a fine backup. And yes, they've actually
- 12:11Speaker 3: won games with Fred Johnson is the backup that the concern,
- 12:15Speaker 3: you know, So, uh why there's a lot of optimism.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I'm on your side of this one. Let's just see
- 12:22Speaker 3: how it goes. We know Lane's most likely going to
- 12:25Speaker 3: play right based on the way he is, but it's
- 12:27Speaker 3: not a lock. See how he does.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you can always reaggravate this thing. And
- 12:33Speaker 1: by the way, I don't think it was Aaron. I
- 12:35Speaker 1: think I might have been doctor Chow with you, who
- 12:38Speaker 1: also explained on our on our to our patreon followards
- 12:42Speaker 1: right that because it's his right foot and he is
- 12:46Speaker 1: a right tackle, and the way he sets is when
- 12:49Speaker 1: you when you're setting and going backwards, that's your plant
- 12:51Speaker 1: leg that you're constantly putting the pressure on. I think
- 12:54Speaker 1: it's called the post leg, but I could be wrong
- 12:55Speaker 1: about that. That makes it a little bit more complicated.
- 12:59Speaker 1: So no, don't you be concerned that Lane was only
- 13:01Speaker 1: limited on Wednesday. They were never going to throw him
- 13:03Speaker 1: out there for a full practice on the first day back.
- 13:06Speaker 2: After all, we're off for two months.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So but I do think by Thursday or Friday, you're
- 13:10Speaker 1: hoping to see him get from limited to full at
- 13:13Speaker 1: some point, to be able to be really, really confident
- 13:16Speaker 1: that he's responding well and we'll play on Sunday. Yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 1: I agree with you. It all points to Sunday. He
- 13:21Speaker 1: would have to have a setback, but that possibility exists.
- 13:24Speaker 2: We just want people to understand that.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So, but the good thing is the
- 13:30Speaker 3: dreaded pop up injury there were none, thank goodness for
- 13:33Speaker 3: the erect but not so good for the Niners. Man,
- 13:40Speaker 3: I guess we should just get started for them. So
- 13:42Speaker 3: here's the guys real quick. I just didn't want to
- 13:44Speaker 3: put in on one thing. Okay, So the.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Fact that you had Carter, Dean, Epps, Goddard and Lane
- 13:50Speaker 2: limited the same thing.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Like, as we get to Thursday and Friday, you hope
- 13:56Speaker 1: that those and I expect that they will will start
- 13:59Speaker 1: to become full at least.
- 14:01Speaker 3: This is the typical protocol with players, veteran players this
- 14:05Speaker 3: late in the year. They don't go heavy with them
- 14:07Speaker 3: on Wednesday because Wednesday Wednesday's the install It just you know,
- 14:12Speaker 3: it's usually light and then it's heavier Thursday and very light.
- 14:15Speaker 3: That's just the it's you go over the game play.
- 14:18Speaker 3: On Saturdays. The walkthrough is an important day because that's
- 14:22Speaker 3: the longest practice during the week typically. So yeah, that
- 14:27Speaker 3: I'm expect. Look, there's no reason to think that godd
- 14:31Speaker 3: won't be in the lineup. I know about his injury history. Whoops,
- 14:35Speaker 3: be there.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you're good, You're good. And I'll just say I'll
- 14:38Speaker 2: extend on that they're not going to be in pads.
- 14:40Speaker 2: You know that.
- 14:41Speaker 3: People still yeah, yeah, I mean, na Kobe, you know,
- 14:46Speaker 3: it's just it's all it's been about this game. I'm
- 14:50Speaker 3: glad that he was out there Wednesday. Now, I would
- 14:52Speaker 3: say this, if they weren't out there Wednesday, I would
- 14:55Speaker 3: have been like, oh, that's not good. If Nikobe wasn't
- 14:59Speaker 3: out there Wednesday after being off for you know, two
- 15:01Speaker 3: and a half weeks, yep, that would be concerning for me.
- 15:04Speaker 3: But he was. I'm not I would not be concerned
- 15:09Speaker 3: at all, unless, as you talked about, for Thursday's practice,
- 15:14Speaker 3: they don't practice. Now what I would also tell you
- 15:17Speaker 3: sometimes they're not downgrades it's the point. Protocol was get
- 15:21Speaker 3: him out there Wednesday. COI feels we're going to back
- 15:24Speaker 3: off with them Thursday.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yep.
- 15:26Speaker 3: A lot of teams do this and then practice guy Friday.
- 15:28Speaker 3: It's just going inside football and inside injury reports, just
- 15:31Speaker 3: talking to medical personnel. They have a plan for every player.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Just be careful if a guy doesn't practice Thursday.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I believe this happened with Jillen Carter where he was
- 15:39Speaker 1: a full on a Thursday and then on a Friday
- 15:43Speaker 1: was limited, and we thought maybe something was going on there,
- 15:45Speaker 1: but I think they were just kind of ease and
- 15:47Speaker 1: back knowing what was going on with his shoulder. This
- 15:49Speaker 1: is prior to his PRP injections, because I remember us
- 15:52Speaker 1: pointing that out, but then he wounded up playing.
- 15:54Speaker 2: So Yey's correct. Is that sometimes that's all part of
- 15:57Speaker 2: the treatment and the management plan.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Yeah. And the problem is the these fantasy services that
- 16:02Speaker 3: aggregate injuries. They called it down GRD. No, it's not
- 16:04Speaker 3: you don't know that. How would you know that if
- 16:06Speaker 3: you didn't talk to the team, Like what are you
- 16:08Speaker 3: talking to? Yeah? And the problem is so when John
- 16:12Speaker 3: Hanson I would do the Fantasy show over the years,
- 16:15Speaker 3: we get calls of this, Oh well, Roto whatever said this.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I'm like, no, that's not true. You know you don't.
- 16:21Speaker 3: They do not know any better? So I would I
- 16:24Speaker 3: would I go listen, let me explain to you these
- 16:26Speaker 3: injury reports, because I had to learn it the same
- 16:28Speaker 3: way as these people did. But they didn't learn it
- 16:30Speaker 3: and try to learn it. They just guess that was
- 16:33Speaker 3: a setback. Sure, there are sometimes the air setbacks and
- 16:35Speaker 3: Wednesday's practice, but you need to know that. So anyway,
- 16:38Speaker 3: I just wanted to set the record straight with that.
- 16:40Speaker 3: But you want to move to the Niners because this
- 16:43Speaker 3: is this is this is another team where I don't
- 16:49Speaker 3: want to question their methods, but why do they always
- 16:51Speaker 3: have problems? And the Eagles we kind of you know,
- 16:56Speaker 3: we did a seven god seven or years ago and
- 16:58Speaker 3: we do the expos a sort of on our first
- 17:00Speaker 3: year about how agents would come to us and just
- 17:03Speaker 3: saying what the hell is with you? No, they didn't
- 17:06Speaker 3: trust the medical staff back then. This is it seven
- 17:08Speaker 3: eight years ago? How he corrected every whatever issue they had.
- 17:12Speaker 3: They've bring archten not in from your first of Pennsylvania
- 17:16Speaker 3: is the evaluator about how to handle injuries and rehabing
- 17:19Speaker 3: stuff or you know whatever. However he evaluates it and
- 17:23Speaker 3: bringing its Hunky Tom Hunkley back who used to be
- 17:27Speaker 3: with them, you can forget that name, right, Hunckley. Whatever
- 17:30Speaker 3: they're doing is great. They do a phenomenal job. And
- 17:34Speaker 3: I give how he credit for stick touitiveness. They're gonna
- 17:37Speaker 3: he's a he's a he's a problem solver. That's all
- 17:39Speaker 3: gms are. But he's extremely good at it.
- 17:42Speaker 2: M hm.
- 17:42Speaker 3: He's guys have told us over the years of work
- 17:45Speaker 3: for him, when he knows it's back, when he sees
- 17:47Speaker 3: something that's getting at a little bit at he's like, no,
- 17:50Speaker 3: we're correcting. This is we're done with this, right. You
- 17:53Speaker 3: know remember that the one where he said I love
- 17:56Speaker 3: this one where he said, uh, one year they were
- 17:59Speaker 3: giving up with the X plays, got the balls getting
- 18:01Speaker 3: over the cornerback's heads. He says, we're doubling this. You
- 18:03Speaker 3: put it, you put it in his office. I forget
- 18:06Speaker 3: what the phrase was it not going over our heads anymore.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I don't know what the hell was.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 18:11Speaker 3: That's you know, the gms that let this this bleep fly.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Oh that it's bad luck. Yes, some of it's bad luck.
- 18:19Speaker 3: But why are some teams year after year injured?
- 18:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and this team is always, always, always aways, especially
- 18:27Speaker 1: especially the running backs, which ironically Christian McCaffrey has had
- 18:30Speaker 1: a great healthy year.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yes, they're usually go through running backs and.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Wide receivers like they're always on number four, number five
- 18:37Speaker 1: in this case on defense this year for them. I
- 18:39Speaker 1: always find it amusing, not amusing, but interesting that how
- 18:43Speaker 1: often McVeigh and Shanahan are tied like that, you know,
- 18:48Speaker 1: the McVeigh tree, the Shanna and Tree. They coach together,
- 18:51Speaker 1: same kind of offenses, motion mister, the personnel alignments, but
- 18:56Speaker 1: they are completely different, as you were mentioning before, in
- 18:59Speaker 1: practice and pads and resting. I mean, because we're McVeigh
- 19:03Speaker 1: is like, you know, won't play starters or anything. The
- 19:05Speaker 1: Niners are not like that, and they have a ton
- 19:08Speaker 1: of injuries. And it's uh man, it starts with with
- 19:11Speaker 1: with Trent Williams.
- 19:12Speaker 2: So he's not practicing. Did he play in the last game?
- 19:16Speaker 1: I couldn't real he did, not that christ He came
- 19:18Speaker 1: out of the game before right the Chicago game.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Yeah, no he he he will right, but he stunningly
- 19:25Speaker 3: he the only gave me miss the season. This is
- 19:27Speaker 3: rare for him. He only the week eighteen. He just
- 19:30Speaker 3: couldn't go. He was not close to going. Based only
- 19:33Speaker 3: when I heard Kyle Shannon talk to the media. He
- 19:35Speaker 3: just they you know, he had a hamshore injury. Couldn't
- 19:38Speaker 3: get it going. Austin pleasants. You know, they filled in
- 19:40Speaker 3: for him and they scored three points. They had too
- 19:43Speaker 3: many three and ounce from I understand. So they'll say
- 19:48Speaker 3: he didn't work on Wednesday. They got two more days,
- 19:50Speaker 3: so we'll see yeh ben Bartch one of their starting
- 19:53Speaker 3: guards to Uh this fronk fracture. He actually tour, he
- 19:56Speaker 3: ruptured it. He's done until next year. That's next season. Uh,
- 20:00Speaker 3: Ayuk never played this season. Boy do they miss him?
- 20:03Speaker 3: God damn they miss him.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Well, I mean theoretically yes, although they averaged like twenty
- 20:08Speaker 1: six points a game since Party came back.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But sure, the absolutely he is he is.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I could tell you if I'm talking to them. When
- 20:18Speaker 3: he got his head on right. You know, first couple
- 20:20Speaker 3: of years he battled with Kyle Shannan. You know, he
- 20:22Speaker 3: coached him really hard, and Ayuk was unachieving. Then he
- 20:25Speaker 3: became a stud and they got the big contract, but
- 20:27Speaker 3: something happened. He tore the ACL then not being around
- 20:31Speaker 3: the team and they, you know, they they avoided his guarantee.
- 20:33Speaker 3: It's just awful. Yeah, you're right. By structure, they've been
- 20:37Speaker 3: able because they're a skime based offense. It does not
- 20:40Speaker 3: ask the guys to win one on one like some
- 20:42Speaker 3: other schemes do. It's all it's all space creation and
- 20:45Speaker 3: scheme and spacing. But Ayuk man they could have used
- 20:49Speaker 3: him because John Juwan Jen has been a great story.
- 20:52Speaker 3: He just doesn't run very well comparatively, not you you know,
- 20:54Speaker 3: right right, And and Ricky Piersall. Ricky Piersall has had
- 20:59Speaker 3: the worst luck for those of you really followed the draft.
- 21:02Speaker 3: He's very gifted. He's their best receiver that's not named
- 21:06Speaker 3: Brandon Ayuk But he missed six games in a row,
- 21:09Speaker 3: then missed two out of the last three. He had
- 21:13Speaker 3: a PC injury, which is not going away. He had
- 21:15Speaker 3: an ankle, then they just added the hamstring. He had
- 21:19Speaker 3: a pre existing issue minor, but dragged on when he
- 21:23Speaker 3: was drafted. You know, I kind of had a bird's
- 21:26Speaker 3: eye view of this thing, and it's just it's crushing,
- 21:28Speaker 3: like he can't get up his own way. It's a shame. Yeah,
- 21:32Speaker 3: you know, that's why they brought back Kendrick Bourne, and
- 21:34Speaker 3: it was a good player. And Jacob Collum is the
- 21:37Speaker 3: slot receiver. Just started practicing this week so they could.
- 21:40Speaker 3: They'll use any available body they haven't receiver they need them.
- 21:44Speaker 3: And then defensively, it's not just Nick Bosa towards a
- 21:48Speaker 3: cl Mikeail Williams their first round pick towards a cl yep,
- 21:52Speaker 3: Fred Warner, Kyle Shanahan with the right ankle disslocation and fracture.
- 21:56Speaker 3: He has a chance, not great chance if they made
- 22:00Speaker 3: it to the championship game to potentially play, but they
- 22:03Speaker 3: they'll know that better when they get closer. If they
- 22:04Speaker 3: ever do. Yeah, then we're not done. Tatum Bethune, Torres groin,
- 22:13Speaker 3: he's out, he had surgery. He's having surgery. He's done
- 22:15Speaker 3: until the next season. Uh Luke Gifford, who's a fill
- 22:19Speaker 3: in linebacker as a quad strain didn't work on Wednesday. Okay,
- 22:24Speaker 3: they uh to make matters, well, make matters worse. I
- 22:28Speaker 3: feel bad saying that about Kyier White, but they had
- 22:31Speaker 3: to sign somebody, some veteran who's smart. There right now,
- 22:37Speaker 3: it's going to be this is who's going to start
- 22:39Speaker 3: against the Eagles until they figure things out, until they
- 22:41Speaker 3: get through Friday's practice, and they walk through um till
- 22:43Speaker 3: they're leaving Friday by the way to come to Philly. Okay,
- 22:47Speaker 3: So it's uh, it's Eric Kendricks, who's near the end
- 22:52Speaker 3: of his career. You know, he was great for the
- 22:53Speaker 3: Viking for many years, and he's near the end of
- 22:55Speaker 3: his career. And Curtis Robson, who was a who's been
- 23:00Speaker 3: who's been on and off the roster for a number
- 23:02Speaker 3: of years. He's been with Denver's practice squad, the Notish
- 23:08Speaker 3: practice squad, I probably fifteen times. That's it. And then
- 23:15Speaker 3: they got, uh, they got one other kid. I'll tell
- 23:17Speaker 3: you who it is. Got from the guy plays and
- 23:20Speaker 3: I had mentioned him, and in fact I know the kid.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I know the name. In a second it is, Oh,
- 23:26Speaker 3: Garret Walla, Yeah, I remember him from Denver. They claimed
- 23:28Speaker 3: off waivers. That's all they have right now. So obviously
- 23:32Speaker 3: they're hurting. Oh the d Winners. Who's a starter. He's
- 23:35Speaker 3: considered questionable this point, as I understand it, with an
- 23:38Speaker 3: ankle injury.
- 23:40Speaker 2: It's actually.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that it may be being kind. I
- 23:45Speaker 3: would put piersol on the very questionable category, which means
- 23:48Speaker 3: worse than questionable for those who are working at home
- 23:51Speaker 3: and they they they it doesn't sound like they're optimistic
- 23:55Speaker 3: at this point, but you never know. Adrenaline being in
- 23:59Speaker 3: the being in training room, just getting ready, you know.
- 24:03Speaker 3: So it's just look you, we just gave you. Their
- 24:06Speaker 3: corners are. Ernardo Green will play. He had a neck injury.
- 24:09Speaker 3: He's been cleared to Geamedoor. Leonor's been a great story development.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Was once benched and then he kind of worked his
- 24:16Speaker 3: way back and up in Stout is a great name,
- 24:18Speaker 3: by the way, good players. Yeah, he's been a good
- 24:21Speaker 3: story development. Gyra Brown should play with a rib injury.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Greg's as Greg said, they do some big nickel with
- 24:29Speaker 3: Jason Pinnock who used to be with the Giants and
- 24:31Speaker 3: the Jets. Yep, now we'll we'll probably have some numbers
- 24:34Speaker 3: for you which their their secondary is gotten torched. The
- 24:37Speaker 3: second half of the season, Yeah, I talked about it.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissette had like the game of his life. He
- 24:43Speaker 3: had one of the best games of anyone this season.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Of course, he threw.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Four completion for christ Know and didn't Michael Wilson have
- 24:50Speaker 1: like almost there's.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Something for fantasy. I like this guy two years ago.
- 24:54Speaker 3: He sucked it till this year. I was I hate
- 24:57Speaker 3: that for fantasy when you're on a guy early and
- 24:58Speaker 3: oh man, I totally missed him on him. They finally
- 25:01Speaker 3: they had a breakout season this year, but he finished.
- 25:04Speaker 1: By the way, Michael Wilson finished like top ten in
- 25:07Speaker 1: the n ELLEN receiving yards, I think, is.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Yeah, great, good for him. But yeah, so the Eagles
- 25:15Speaker 3: haven't Just as you said very well to start the show,
- 25:18Speaker 3: Eugles have a major injury advantage over this football team.
- 25:21Speaker 3: They're screwed at linebacker. They're not a good run defense.
- 25:24Speaker 3: They're they're not. Uh the kid Clay Davis should play,
- 25:28Speaker 3: he's got a sore knee. Alfred Collins is gonna have
- 25:32Speaker 3: to play. Their second rounder of this year, Kevin Gibbons,
- 25:35Speaker 3: who's been there was an undirected free agent that was
- 25:37Speaker 3: a really good signing by John Lynch, who's who's kind
- 25:39Speaker 3: of worked his way up to Drean Elliott who came
- 25:41Speaker 3: here from Cleveland. And by the way, Bryce hoff has
- 25:44Speaker 3: to start. Why because they ran out of edges Grassmados
- 25:48Speaker 3: is not an edge rusher. He's he's a he's a
- 25:50Speaker 3: run stopping edge and he's been hurt for a lot.
- 25:54Speaker 3: And Kean Waite, by the way they got I forgot
- 25:57Speaker 3: to mention him in the trade for the trade from
- 26:00Speaker 3: he's got a groin injury. So they're Eagles are looking
- 26:03Speaker 3: great in this game. I just we'll give our picks Friday.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yes, from a health standpoint, absolutely.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Kind of if you listen in, you kind of see
- 26:10Speaker 3: how I'm leaning.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I just real quick, the Niners rushing
- 26:16Speaker 2: defense statistically is not terrible.
- 26:18Speaker 3: You're right, Okay, okay, Yeah, they're not talented. They're really
- 26:23Speaker 3: so with the wide nine because that's what solid plays.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yep.
- 26:28Speaker 3: I remember Jim Schwartz talking about this. When you play
- 26:30Speaker 3: that scheme, your safeties, your corners have to cover because
- 26:34Speaker 3: their gaps. Right, your edges are playing the run all
- 26:38Speaker 3: the way to the quarterback. Right, guys have to which
- 26:41Speaker 3: is which is? I think that was a Jim Washburn line.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yes, play the run on the way to the quarterback. Yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 2: I love that.
- 26:48Speaker 3: One, And I laughed. My asked as Washburn was and
- 26:50Speaker 3: his son, Ironic is not coaching egos edges, but I
- 26:53Speaker 3: always thought that was funny. Yes, but they they they're
- 26:56Speaker 3: very disciplined on their front. They're just not very talented.
- 26:59Speaker 2: No, but they're they're to your point, their safeties are
- 27:01Speaker 2: good tacklers. I think that helps out.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Why they play nickel.
- 27:04Speaker 1: That's exactly exactly it. Yeah, Tyre Brown can tackle. Malik
- 27:08Speaker 1: Mustafa is pretty good at tackling. So they've been able
- 27:11Speaker 1: to overcome these injuries at linebacker because they've tackled well
- 27:14Speaker 1: from the safety level and they play big nickel. I
- 27:17Speaker 1: think the Trent Williams thing to me is ten times massive.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Oh got worse for them than the linebacker issue.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying

- 30:47Speaker 3: I hear you but that they did a great job
- 30:49Speaker 3: on Jonathan Taylor. They did a phenomenal job. Now, the
- 30:53Speaker 3: Colts had some offensive linemen. As I looked, I looked
- 30:55Speaker 3: into a lot. I've I've been doing a lot of
- 30:57Speaker 3: research on sides of the football on you know, it's
- 31:03Speaker 3: it going past tape study, it's it's not and numbers.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I want to know how some of their opponents saw
- 31:09Speaker 3: their you know what the challenges were. You know, you
- 31:12Speaker 3: know the names as you mentioned Kittle and McCaffrey and
- 31:15Speaker 3: Jennings and Brian Robinsons and this Jake Tongues is I
- 31:19Speaker 3: used funny when he was when they brought him in.
- 31:21Speaker 3: I know the Bears had him. Everyone called him Tongues,
- 31:26Speaker 3: but it's Tongues and he had a great like for
- 31:28Speaker 3: what he is. He did a good job filding for Kittle.
- 31:31Speaker 1: He did Mac Jones and Jake Tongues kept that team
- 31:35Speaker 1: afloat Man's Jones.
- 31:37Speaker 3: And he's on a contract. He would have made a
- 31:39Speaker 3: mint in free agency. He was phenomenal.
- 31:41Speaker 2: He was.
- 31:43Speaker 3: I talked to I talked to an advanced scout said
- 31:45Speaker 3: he said, if you thought he played well as a rookie,
- 31:48Speaker 3: now his career went down the twos with Belichick, right,
- 31:51Speaker 3: he was so good off tape this this pro guy
- 31:53Speaker 3: told me it's pro scout. I was like, it's too
- 31:56Speaker 3: bad he's on a contract for another year because they
- 31:58Speaker 3: could have made some money. He could have made some money.
- 31:59Speaker 3: But it so that's it. They're they're devastated. Uh. Now,
- 32:03Speaker 3: could the Eagles take advantage with the run scheme with Stout?
- 32:07Speaker 3: This is why I told you last week you could
- 32:10Speaker 3: say whatever you want that the lineman, the line has
- 32:12Speaker 3: sucked the season. They should play. Get them the hell
- 32:14Speaker 3: off their feet, get Dick Orson, who is a shell
- 32:17Speaker 3: of himself Jurgons it is probably I don't I haven't
- 32:22Speaker 3: looked at it. I don't really look at PFF grades.
- 32:24Speaker 3: I respect them, I just don't look at them. But
- 32:26Speaker 3: I can't imagine he wasn't in their box. He had
- 32:28Speaker 3: to be in their bottom five. He just struggled. He
- 32:31Speaker 3: had a tough year. Yeah, Greg Gregor has told us, Yeah,
- 32:35Speaker 3: hadn't played well this year, and then Greg's being nice
- 32:37Speaker 3: about it. He's a little rough sometimes with it. But
- 32:40Speaker 3: Jurgons might have set the team record for miss blocks
- 32:43Speaker 3: I mean in the run.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it was bad. There were bad times. Now.
- 32:47Speaker 1: The only thing, the only reason I say that I'm
- 32:49Speaker 1: still sort of skeptical is because I remember when the
- 32:52Speaker 1: Eagles played the Bears, and the Bears did not have
- 32:54Speaker 1: Tremaine Emans and they did not have h. T.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Jed Wards.
- 32:57Speaker 1: They were down to like their fourth and fifth linebackers,
- 32:59Speaker 1: and the Eagles, for the reasons we're talking about now,
- 33:01Speaker 1: because of their offensive line issues, they just could not
- 33:05Speaker 1: spring the run game and get it going. And we've
- 33:07Speaker 1: seen it a couple of times this year where we
- 33:09Speaker 1: thought the Egos run game, we gelt go in against
- 33:11Speaker 1: a defense that either had some defensive tackles that were
- 33:14Speaker 1: out or like the Bills right or the Bears, and
- 33:18Speaker 1: it just didn't happen. So that's to me that that's
- 33:22Speaker 1: sort of an interesting subplot going in. I know that
- 33:25Speaker 1: the Seahawks do not run the ball well, but ran
- 33:27Speaker 1: the ball well against the forty nine ers, So that's
- 33:29Speaker 1: either a one game thing between two division rivals, or
- 33:33Speaker 1: maybe it's a harbinger for the fact that finally the
- 33:36Speaker 1: injuries a linebacker have caught up caught up to the Niners.
- 33:39Speaker 2: We'll see that's all gonna play itself out.
- 33:41Speaker 3: No, on your point, yes, with this offensive line, I
- 33:44Speaker 3: have no idea what to expect. How could anyone know?
- 33:47Speaker 3: This is one of these things We asked Andrew or
- 33:49Speaker 3: Andrew to check with us when we on the BCB show.
- 33:53Speaker 3: We both agreed. I think you would agree. You were
- 33:55Speaker 3: at camp. There's we don't get no where to practice tape,
- 33:58Speaker 3: but this you could fit well. Obviously, we know Barkley
- 34:01Speaker 3: wouldn't be as good. I thought he had fifteen hundred
- 34:03Speaker 3: yards this season. Did he finish with over twelve hundred
- 34:05Speaker 3: eleven hundred, didn't even.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Look Oh, I think it was eleven hundred. Yeah, check
- 34:08Speaker 2: real quick, but.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean obviously it's awful. Sure, what was that
- 34:11Speaker 3: stat that Greg gave our patron members on It was
- 34:16Speaker 3: he's down nine hundred yards in the city.
- 34:17Speaker 2: What was it something in the second half alone?
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it was something like almost a thousand yards just
- 34:22Speaker 1: in the second half.
- 34:23Speaker 3: It was crazy of games of games right?
- 34:25Speaker 1: Wait was the second season, because remember last year he
- 34:27Speaker 1: was the leading he was the fifth reading leading.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Rusher in the NFL.
- 34:30Speaker 1: If you just took his second half stats, that's how
- 34:33Speaker 1: amazing he was half of games, right, second half of games?
- 34:35Speaker 2: Yes, sorry, second half of game yeah, after halftime.
- 34:38Speaker 1: My god, eleven hundred and forty rushing yards for sake
- 34:41Speaker 1: this year. But it's crazy, right, the sixth most attempts
- 34:47Speaker 1: in the NFL. So it's not like they gave up.
- 34:51Speaker 3: They just it still starts to the run. Although there
- 34:54Speaker 3: were times when it was winning, I'm like, why are
- 34:56Speaker 3: they throwing so much?
- 34:57Speaker 2: M hm?
- 34:58Speaker 3: But I can't answer that. Patulo and Sirianni can. But anyway,
- 35:02Speaker 3: that's it, folks, that's an injury situation. You know it's
- 35:06Speaker 3: there are a lot of advantage The Veagles could take
- 35:08Speaker 3: advantage of their matchups. They could take advantages where they
- 35:11Speaker 3: will or not, it's up to them. But the Niners
- 35:15Speaker 3: are Shanahan and his staff, and I know getting solid
- 35:19Speaker 3: back was major because it didn't work out with Steve Wilkes.
- 35:21Speaker 3: But man, what a what a job they've done this season.
- 35:25Speaker 3: They've overachieved. It's a great coaching job where the Heels
- 35:28Speaker 3: are probably underachieved.
- 35:29Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 35:29Speaker 3: That's on offense.
- 35:30Speaker 2: On offense, yeah, not defense. Yeah no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 35:34Speaker 1: All right, cool, good dad, Listen, We're gonna break this
- 35:37Speaker 1: game down a to Z with Greg cosel h.
- 35:40Speaker 2: He's got some.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Really interesting observations, by the way, on some of the
- 35:43Speaker 1: things that the forty nine ers do offensively with the
- 35:46Speaker 1: full back, some of the things they do defensively with
- 35:49Speaker 1: their big Nickel package. That's gonna make for a great breakdown.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Of course, the Bird's weekly crew doing it with Derek
- 35:56Speaker 1: Gunn and his special guest if you have I'm not
- 35:59Speaker 1: gonna stay still not gonna say it because some people
- 36:01Speaker 1: may not have seen it yet.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Play for the former Eagle.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Is a special guest and away we roll as we
- 36:08Speaker 1: get closer to playoff kickoff for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 36:13Speaker 2: That's gonna do it for.
