- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's. Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes, it
- 0:11all starts. Right now, welcome back to the
- 0:16three O take presented by Sea Kick.
- 0:18This episode 517. I'll be your host, Kyle Korne.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:24Nate. One day closer, pal.
- 0:28One day closer. You know, I don't mean to be
- 0:31that guy, but I outside of of getting to be outside and chew
- 0:38some seeds and picking up a new baseball ISM shirt, there wasn't
- 0:44much about the spring training game that hit me where I needed
- 0:49to be hit. You know what I mean?
- 0:51I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It was nice.
- 0:57It was nice seeing the grass. It was nice being there.
- 1:00We have our. Own.
- 1:02We have our own shop and Nate, just from the clouds right off
- 1:06the top just shamelessly drops, gives a free promo.
- 1:11Yeah, you know what? I'm going to pick up a new
- 1:12baseballism shirt. I mean, that's.
- 1:15Worth 2 Yeah. Baseballism as a podcast?
- 1:19Yeah. I mean, that's when's the last
- 1:22time you dropped, When's the last time you plugged the shop?
- 1:26When's the last time you plugged the shot?
- 1:27Literally. Last episode.
- 1:29I don't remember that. 1000% I don't remember that that you can
- 1:33get on the shop. When's the last time you plugged
- 1:35baseball ISM? 30 seconds ago. 30 seconds ago.
- 1:41Tell us about your spring training.
- 1:43It was a good. Experience.
- 1:44It's good, It's good, it's good, it's good.
- 1:46Getting out, good. Be good.
- 1:48Getting in the sunshine, good. Spitting some seeds, chilling,
- 1:56catching some baseball, watching people that are like oddly way
- 2:00too end to spring training and like, cheering to the level of
- 2:05like, let's just ease off the gas pedal a little bit here.
- 2:09We got 162 of these things lined up.
- 2:12Let's let's save some in the chamber.
- 2:15Yeah, it was good, man. Got to see Jack Caglione for the
- 2:21Royals, who is massive, a massive human being.
- 2:27You see one of those he's like when he when he cracks through
- 2:31and is on the field regularly for them.
- 2:34Like he, that dude is a presence.
- 2:37That's a big boy. Yeah, he's got a little bit to
- 2:39figure out in the swing. It's a long swing and he didn't
- 2:43look great the other day, but I'm sure he's going to be fine.
- 2:48Corbin Carroll went yeah, yeah. Corbin Carroll's got a little, a
- 2:50new little stance going on, looks like.
- 2:53Yeah, it's it's called sitting on the bench.
- 2:56Do you see he was pulled with with back tightness today?
- 2:59Oh, did he? Oh, no, probably because,
- 3:02believe it or not, I think it was like the after that home
- 3:05run, I think he hit it in like the 6th inning, 5th or 6th
- 3:11inning, hit a home run, like a shot to right center.
- 3:15And they come out the next half and like innings about to start,
- 3:21you know, warm up balls are getting tossed back in like,
- 3:24time, time. We don't have a right fielder.
- 3:26Like no one's in right field. Diamondbacks didn't send anybody
- 3:29out. So Corbin Carroll's like, all
- 3:31right, Throws a hat on, gets his bright red glove and then and
- 3:34jogs out there. Then shame on them.
- 3:37You know what I mean? His day should have been done.
- 3:39He goes, yeah, yeah, like, you know, that's going to make him
- 3:41go back out in the right field in the 6th.
- 3:44So maybe that's why. Yeah, that's a team player.
- 3:49Yeah, but it's good, man. It's good.
- 3:51Good show. Good.
- 3:53Good time getting out. Crazy expensive.
- 3:57Probably the best nachos I've ever had at a ball game.
- 4:00Believe it or not, that's not true.
- 4:03We had those in Denver. Better.
- 4:07That's impossible. Nope.
- 4:09Better like real, like Mexican queso.
- 4:12Not like Nacho cheese being dumped on it like queso.
- 4:17At a spring training game. Oh yeah dude, the best nachos
- 4:22you've ever had in your life at a spring training.
- 4:24Game I know. I don't.
- 4:25I don't buy it. I'll take your I mean, I'll take
- 4:28your word for it, but I that's something I would not accept
- 4:31just blindly. But you know.
- 4:32Yeah. You were there.
- 4:33You had them. I'll believe you.
- 4:34I'm. Just saying, how about you?
- 4:39Would you? Do you have anything?
- 4:41Anything. This no baseball for me.
- 4:42I actually I actually watched some spring training.
- 4:44I was actually just watching earlier today I was watching
- 4:47some watching some socks and then I was watching the Padres
- 4:51Royals game a lot of split squad action going on today.
- 4:56I, I hate that by the way, I, I, I understand it has to be done,
- 5:00but like, let me. Just split squads.
- 5:02Just anyway, but yeah, it's been good.
- 5:05Been watching some ball on TV, which is is unusual for me.
- 5:09I usually don't get around to watching much of spring
- 5:12training, but, you know, finally got the MLBTV subscription
- 5:15figured out, so we're trying to tap into it a little bit.
- 5:19Yeah, I tried to throw it on the other day and I was like.
- 5:21Yeah, sorry about that. Sorry about that.
- 5:27Finally gets the musters up the the courage and the strength to
- 5:30watch spring training game. And then it just hits you with
- 5:33the. This is unavailable in your
- 5:34area. Try logging into a different
- 5:37account. I was like, you're like, I don't
- 5:39have another account. Anyway, Speaking of watching
- 5:43some ball, there's some storylines that you and I have
- 5:48brought to the table today that we are going to have our eye on
- 5:51this year. I'm looking forward to this
- 5:54because, I mean, I told you where my head was at, but I
- 5:58don't know really what you're bringing to the table.
- 6:00So I'm curious to see who or what team because I, I sort of
- 6:05made it open-ended. I said, I assume this could be
- 6:07player related, this could be team related.
- 6:11So I'm curious to see, curious to see where your heads at.
- 6:13Do you would you do us the honors of of leading off with
- 6:16your? First starter off my first one.
- 6:19I feel like I've been, I'm not going to say like unjustifiably
- 6:27harsh because after looking at the numbers, it was better than
- 6:31I thought, but I, I still think it brings up a good .1 of my
- 6:37guys that I want to watch is Julio Rodriguez.
- 6:41And in the way that I've said that, like I feel like I've been
- 6:44somewhat harsh in the past. The numbers look a lot better
- 6:49than what I had in my head and it was a little bit of a down
- 6:54year last year. Overall, I think the Mariners
- 6:57are still happy with it. You know, a 20 home run season,
- 7:00but like the OPS has has just kind of dropped a tick after
- 7:04each year starting in 2022. And I know he came onto the
- 7:08scene and like he especially showing at the Home Run Derby
- 7:13and like it it almost just like you, you got this impression
- 7:18that he was already in this like super stardom status.
- 7:23And I know we could go off on the Mariners and just how they
- 7:27haven't really seemed to take that next step and get over the
- 7:30hump. And I don't know if maybe he
- 7:32gets wrapped up into that. And, and like I said, I don't
- 7:35know if it's justified or not, but for me, just for the, the
- 7:39commitment that they've made to him, not necessarily.
- 7:42So, I mean, it's a very team friendly deal monetarily.
- 7:45Like it's a it's a great contract for what you're
- 7:48getting, but I think it's just the commitment of like the
- 7:54length and saying like, let's build around this guy.
- 7:57Well, they're not really building and I'm ready for him
- 8:01to just establish who he is. So, you know, you see guys that
- 8:06are young and sometimes they get early success and sometimes they
- 8:12take off and then sometimes it fades.
- 8:15Maybe it takes a little while to come back and, and I don't know
- 8:18if it's like an age thing. I don't know if maybe pitchers
- 8:21started to figure out a way to attack him mechanically.
- 8:24I see some stuff in his swing that like would be a pretty easy
- 8:27fix that I think would help him. But I I'm just ready for him to
- 8:32step into stardom. I'm ready for him to step into
- 8:35like, I am a top three center fielder in the game.
- 8:40I am the Seattle Mariners. Like I'm just, I'm ready for
- 8:43that next step. So let's wash last year and
- 8:47let's kind of tap into what it has been.
- 8:50You know, he came in in his rookie year, hit 28.
- 8:52He had 32 in 2023, but we've seen the OPS just drop each
- 8:57year, went from 853 down to 818 and then last year was a 734 OPS
- 9:03and a 116 OPS plus. Like again, I'm not worried
- 9:08about the dollar amount necessarily, but when we're
- 9:11talking about a guy that a franchise is committed to for a
- 9:14decade plus, I expect more than an OPS in the seven hundreds.
- 9:20So show me those he got, man, keep swiping bags.
- 9:25He had 37 stolen bases in in 2023, played 155 games.
- 9:30I mean, it's not like he's not playing played 143 last year.
- 9:33Like that's fine, but he went from 37 double S down to 17.
- 9:38Like so there's like there's something going on to where the
- 9:41power numbers have dropped a little bit and it kind of
- 9:44changes his value. You're always going to get that
- 9:46Gold Glove defense, but I'm ready.
- 9:48I I just want to see all of it. I want to see you be who you
- 9:53should be. And I think this is the year
- 9:56that I'm like, I'm really intrigued by what he has.
- 10:00They want to see what's real. You know, Murray in the chat
- 10:04says, Speaking of Julio and speaking from a baseball fan,
- 10:06I've been waiting for the Seattle starting pitchers to go
- 10:08off, I think. And he also says happy Sunday.
- 10:12I think if what you're saying is true, I think, yeah, I think if
- 10:18what you're saying is true, I think if we can get, and I hate
- 10:20saying bounce back because like you said, it's not, it's not a
- 10:23horrible year, right? I looked it up and because I
- 10:26remembered just the last couple years being a little worse off
- 10:30than they were. But when you really, I mean, you
- 10:31don't even really have to dig very far beyond the county
- 10:34numbers to be like, oh, I mean, this was this was a, albeit a
- 10:38down year, but serviceable year. And you can't imagine that he's
- 10:42going to stay down too long. If you combine that with with
- 10:47what they're able to bring to the table from a a staff point
- 10:50of view, assuming they they keep everybody around, keep them
- 10:53healthy. The Mariners I think can
- 10:55continue to insert themselves into the mix of things so that
- 11:00we shall see. An outfielder for me, one of the
- 11:07the better players in baseball last year.
- 11:11Can Jaron Duran repeat a top five WAR season?
- 11:21This is tough. This is really tough because I'd
- 11:23I love me some Jaron Duran, but I'm pretty sure I went on record
- 11:29as saying that like I just, I feel like everything lined up
- 11:35correctly for him last year sort of caught lightning in a bottle.
- 11:39His skill set, his skill set is going to play.
- 11:42He's going to be an absolute menace on the base pass.
- 11:45He's going to stretch singles into double S, double S into
- 11:49triples. And that's that's not, you're
- 11:54not going to have to worry about the speed declining for for some
- 11:57time, I would imagine. But I just frankly, I don't know
- 12:04how he finished top five in all of baseball and WAR last year
- 12:08like. You watch them everyday.
- 12:10So like, tell me, is there like some fluff that is that what
- 12:13you're saying? No, no, no, it's it's I what I
- 12:16saw was incredible. Like he, I mean, Utah truly one
- 12:19of those machine, yeah, extra base hit machine in general.
- 12:22I mean, I think he led LED, led the league in double s and
- 12:27triples, 48 and 14 respectively. So like what yeah, what you, I
- 12:34mean, what you see is what you get with Jaron Durant, but you
- 12:38it's it's and it's not a knock on him.
- 12:39It's really just you look around the league and you go and you're
- 12:42telling me he finished top five with all these other dudes
- 12:45around baseball gunning for the same sort of performance and
- 12:50output. It's it's going to be
- 12:53interesting to see. I mean, last year, you look at
- 12:55what he did 2024 all all MLB second team, he was obviously an
- 13:02All Star, was the MVP of the All Star game finalist for a Silver
- 13:06Slugger and a Gold Glove, was the heart and hustle award
- 13:09winner for the Red Sox or nominee.
- 13:12No surprise there. My gut says, my gut says no.
- 13:21I I don't think I mean it. Again, these are storylines that
- 13:24we're going to keep an eye on, but if I had to go it, it's
- 13:27really hard to duplicate that. And The thing is, is even if he
- 13:30didn't, even if you get, I mean, I used the word serviceable
- 13:33earlier, even if he gives you 75% of what he gave you last
- 13:38year, you would absolutely take that in a heartbeat.
- 13:41You would absolutely take that in a heartbeat because again,
- 13:44some of the additions they made this offseason, namely Bregman,
- 13:47he alleviates a little bit of that pressure offensively and it
- 13:52it gives him the freedom to do even more than what he did last
- 13:58year because he doesn't have to put that weight on his
- 14:00shoulders. If you get more from him this
- 14:03year as a result, great. But if not, again, some of that
- 14:06pressure has been offset with some roster manipulation, some
- 14:10additions that have been made. But yeah, Baseball Reference
- 14:15right now hasn't projected for 16 homers, 62 ribbies OPS,
- 14:22that's I believe a 797. So I mean that's.
- 14:29I think I I I'd be crazy not to say yes to that if I'm a Red Sox
- 14:33fan, like I take that if that if we Fast forward and said you had
- 14:37a regression from last year, but you still give that.
- 14:41I think I think he gives that. I told you, I think the last
- 14:45episode or a few episodes ago, like as a Yankees fan, he he
- 14:49worries me more than anyone else on that team.
- 14:52I'm more nervous about him. And I don't know if there's
- 14:54something in the water in Boston that they just generate stud
- 14:59center fielders. You go back to Johnny Damon and
- 15:01Jacoby Ellisbury after that. It's almost like you don't you
- 15:05maybe skip 1 short period of a generation and then next thing
- 15:09you know, you have like a league leader in center field.
- 15:13So he worries me, man. There's a lot of guys.
- 15:16He's freaking ripped. He's like, it's not like he's a
- 15:19frail, fast guy. Like that guy is built like a
- 15:23freaking superhero. At the same time, he worries me.
- 15:27So I'm surprised by that. I'm surprised that you're not as
- 15:31confident as I am worried, if that makes sense.
- 15:35I mean, and, and I'll, I'll let you get to your second guy here,
- 15:38but just look at I mean, and I'm not telling you names you don't
- 15:43already know. Aaron Judge.
- 15:44Here's how we finished last year with with war leaders last year,
- 15:47Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt, Shohei Otani, Gunner Henderson, Jaron
- 15:51Duran, Juan Soto, Matt Chapman, Francisco Lindor, Jose Hermiaz,
- 15:56Ramirez, Catal Marte. He finished, he finished Jaron
- 16:03Duran finished with an 8.7. If there was a quote, UN quote
- 16:07regression to say a mid 5, you know who finished with a mid
- 16:11five last year? Brent Rooker with a 5-6.
- 16:17Would you take what Brent Rooker did for you last year?
- 16:20Certainly, certainly different styles of play.
- 16:23Brent Rooker is going to give you much more power than than
- 16:26Jaron Duran is. But would you take a a season
- 16:29like Brent Rooker short? So that's why I'm not again,
- 16:31this isn't a knock on on Jaron Duran.
- 16:33This is more of just I, I think the, the best of the best are
- 16:37going to continue to get better. And I, I, I just feel I, I see
- 16:43it being very difficult for Jane Durant to crack the top five in
- 16:48consecutive seasons. I just, I don't know, I'd love
- 16:51to see it. I'm, I'm not going to sit here
- 16:53and wish that it doesn't happen just so I'm right.
- 16:55I want to see it happen, but I think that would require that
- 16:58require a lot to to go right. I think I love the aspects of a
- 17:02traditional lead off guy, but if there is a day that the Red Sox
- 17:07move on from Devers, I think that is your 3 hole moving
- 17:12forward for a long time. That's how that's how I feel
- 17:16about Jared Duran. Like I I think the first guy
- 17:19that has like I think that there's a very easy 4 tool
- 17:27player in that that can scratch into five tool at times.
- 17:32I think it's I think it's like a no doubt 3 tool wake up.
- 17:37Don't even need to stretch. I'm a three tool guy.
- 17:40More often than not, he's going to be 4 tool and then if you if
- 17:44there's like a shift in gears down the road at some point in
- 17:48his career, I could see five tool for sure.
- 17:51Love it. Yeah.
- 17:52Who do you got the weird theme? I didn't.
- 17:55I got to be honest. You texted me the your list.
- 17:57I don't even remember who else is on it.
- 17:59But like, let's stay in center field.
- 18:02I'm going. Louise Robert, Junior.
- 18:04Yes. I think it's something that is
- 18:07very intriguing with the White Sox scenario.
- 18:12Obviously anybody that hasn't lived under a rock understands
- 18:14that he's been shopped and and there's been conversations there
- 18:21and I'm curious to see how he performs and if if the White Sox
- 18:26continue to hold their price tag at where it is.
- 18:30And I don't know if I have any, you know, like tangible offers
- 18:33that I can read off that of what they're requesting.
- 18:39You know, I I think I'm just intrigued to see what this turns
- 18:43into because there isn't a team in in baseball that wouldn't be
- 18:48interested in a Louise Robert junior, whether you play center
- 18:52field everyday or, you know, they shift them over to right
- 18:55field or, you know, give him more of a ADH opportunity.
- 18:59But like the health thing, man, the lower half injuries are just
- 19:05so hard to be confident in. It's one thing that I feel like
- 19:12the two most worrisome injuries to me are hips and wrists.
- 19:17Those are like as a as a position player, those are the
- 19:20two things that I would worry about most when wrists start to
- 19:23go. Those are miserable.
- 19:26When hips start to go, all the other injuries start leaking in
- 19:31with it, hamstrings, quads, calves.
- 19:33And that's what we've seen with Louise Robert, like over the few
- 19:37years, man. It's like you came onto the
- 19:39scene and blew up and then it's just like, who are you?
- 19:45I don't know who you are. I can't quite figure it out.
- 19:50You played 56 games in a shortened season of of 60 games
- 19:53and then it's just been weird. 68 games, 98 games and then it's
- 19:58like 02023. I am that guy.
- 20:01I am that guy and he produced 38 bombs, 857 OPS.
- 20:10So it's like it's just the the inconsistency up and down.
- 20:15I'm not sure what you're going to get.
- 20:17He played 100 games last year, which I feel like he's starting
- 20:20to trend in the right direction, but like, it's not just.
- 20:25You know, starting off the season this way, it's not just
- 20:29it's like two or three stints throughout a season that you're
- 20:33like, I can tell that's lingering.
- 20:36And I think he was lucky to get to 100 games last year.
- 20:39But the storyline I want to pay attention to is that the mixed
- 20:42with with the contract because like it is a very, I think this
- 20:47is the other aspect of that of the White Sox holding their
- 20:51price tag where it is, is because you can, there's a lot
- 20:54of potential in that. But this contract is not only
- 20:58affordable, you're back-to-back club options for 2026 and 2027.
- 21:03So whatever team commits to him has the ability to say, I can
- 21:09get out of this right away or I just snatched him and we have a
- 21:16potential MVP every year in our lineup.
- 21:19That's I just don't know what he is.
- 21:21I think there's so many question marks around him.
- 21:24This to me is like a, I'm not going to say last chance, but I
- 21:30think this is like a, you know, the White Sox got to get
- 21:35something for him. And I don't want to see that
- 21:41price tag drop too much if he moves on to a different team and
- 21:45absolutely blows up. And that's the other part of it,
- 21:47too. It's like, how committed are you
- 21:49to be staying healthy when you're playing for a dumpster
- 21:51fire of an organization? You know, does that change when
- 21:55you when you change into a different uniform?
- 21:58And I know you mentioned a few episodes ago that like, if the
- 22:03Phillies can somehow find a way to get Mike Trout, that would be
- 22:07the perfect combo. This to me is like a this is a
- 22:12fit. You talk about a a wonder Bread.
- 22:17You know, not enough culture going on in that in that dugout.
- 22:21Add a little Louise Robert. I mean, those, those boys can
- 22:24have some fun. Let's not.
- 22:25Let's not fully. Well, they need a little spice,
- 22:28they need a little flavor in there.
- 22:30And I feel like Mr. Robert could do that.
- 22:32So that would be like kind of my guess if if they can find a way
- 22:36to make it happen. And financially it's not that
- 22:39bad. So it's my next guy to watch.
- 22:44Next storyline to watch for me, which by the way, your first two
- 22:48thus far were storylines that I was considering very much
- 22:52considering Julio Rodriguez like it it we, we've been talking for
- 22:57weeks now about how some of these names have just been sort
- 23:00of sneaking up on us in terms of how long they've been in the
- 23:03league. And Julio Rodriguez by no
- 23:04stretch has been in the league. We're we're not talking about
- 23:06him being oh man, he's been around for like a decade, but
- 23:09just one of those guys are like every year that passes and and
- 23:13in in the situations like that, you're going all right, like,
- 23:16let's really, let's really take off now.
- 23:18If you're if you're J Rod, like let's really.
- 23:21I mean, I know again, he's had he's had great seasons thus far,
- 23:24but like, let's let's take it up to another.
- 23:27Let's let's kick it up another notch.
- 23:30And then Louise Robert. Yeah.
- 23:31I mean, that's a fair, that's a, that's a wild card if I've ever
- 23:34seen one in terms like in addition.
- 23:36If a team can get him at the deadline, like look out.
- 23:40If he's going right and out, the you immediately just got an MVP
- 23:44tossed in. That's what he is.
- 23:47That's what he's capable of. Yeah.
- 23:51So as I was saying, my next storyline is this going to be a
- 24:00year that Jackson holiday finally settles in and takes off
- 24:05and I got a little treat for us here.
- 24:08I've got I've got our good friend Ryan Ripken fresh off the
- 24:13train. He I texted him I was like, hey,
- 24:16can we get your thoughts on on Jackson holiday for 2025?
- 24:20He goes, I'm on a train, but I'll get you when I get home.
- 24:22Within minutes of getting home shoots over a video.
- 24:25So I got a little treat for you here from Baltimore, from Prince
- 24:28of Baltimore, friend of the program, Ryan Ripken.
- 24:31Nate Kyle three O take what's up And Kyle Hey, could this be the
- 24:35year for Jackson Holiday? It might, but here's the reality
- 24:38for Jackson, still such a young player and I would still argue
- 24:43there's only a few players and and the list is so small who
- 24:47could have more upside than Jackson over the next decade.
- 24:49And he is that talented, he can be that good.
- 24:52But we need to take a step back and realize he isn't going to be
- 24:55that All Star to hit 30 jacks, hundred RBI's and hit 300.
- 25:00Because guess what? He didn't do that when he just
- 25:02came up to the bigs last year. And I think you're going to see
- 25:05a little bit more of that transition this year.
- 25:07I think if Jackson is playing every single day, you're going
- 25:10to see the progression go through some growing pains and
- 25:12by the end of the summer, things might start to be clicking for
- 25:16the young star. But the age is a big thing.
- 25:19He's going to have to continue to learn how to be a big
- 25:22leaguer. And I hope though, for his sake,
- 25:24he is getting those reps. What's going to help unlock
- 25:27Jackson is reps. And if he gets the reps sooner
- 25:30than later, he's going to figure it out and piece it all
- 25:33together. And hey, guys, I will be on
- 25:36soon. You heard it here first.
- 25:38Appreciate you. Prince of Baltimore.
- 25:44Ryan Riverhead. Prince of Baltimore.
- 25:47Ryan, the only the only issue that I take with your video and
- 25:52much appreciated. But you said he he's more than
- 25:55likely not going to be that guy that hits that puts up 30 and
- 25:58100. Why not?
- 26:00Ryan, I, I want Jackson holiday to be a 3000 guy.
- 26:05I know he's not. I know he's not I I fully
- 26:08understand your reasoning and you're, you're far more of a
- 26:11reasonable man than I am. But my goodness, if you have you
- 26:16seen a picture of Jackson Holiday recently?
- 26:20I'm sure he's jacked. Dude is yoked and that to me it
- 26:26doesn't compute when you see that and you got Ryan going,
- 26:29it's probably not going to put up 3000.
- 26:30I said I look at that picture. I said that's that's 5125 if
- 26:35I've ever seen it No, but this is this is going to be again
- 26:39storyline. I'm going to have my eye on
- 26:41something that was encouraging that I, I came across was that
- 26:46he's, he's spending some time working with Brian Roberts and
- 26:50JJ Hardy down to spring training, which has been, I
- 26:54could only imagine beneficial for his, his defense.
- 26:59The some of the quotes I read were that I think, I think Brian
- 27:03Roberts was talking about how he, he just still plays as if
- 27:06he's a shortstop and how there's certainly some, some
- 27:09similarities, some crossover there between the two middle and
- 27:12field positions. But that footwork when it comes
- 27:16to things like double plays and, and things like that, you
- 27:19there's, you're going to need to play it differently than you
- 27:23would if you were shortstop. And so if he's able to iron out
- 27:26some of those things, hopefully that helps, you know, ramp up
- 27:30his confidence a little bit because in baseball, anything
- 27:32that you can utilize to help boost your confidence is a gift.
- 27:38And if you're struggling at the plate, but you are, you've got
- 27:41it figured out defensively that you got to build off that.
- 27:45So if, if Jackson is able to, you know, spend the spring
- 27:50working on cutting down on his on on chases, he's able to sort
- 27:54of tighten up the strike zone a little bit, straighten up, you
- 27:59know, clean up his strike zone specifically and better identify
- 28:05what he's looking for. Combine that with some some
- 28:09improved defensive ability, I think I think this could be a a
- 28:13good year for for Jackson. I like that, man.
- 28:16Yeah. I mean, I, I agree with what
- 28:18Ryan's saying because it's like, I think it's a whole different
- 28:23thing when you have a young guy that no one expects to come up
- 28:28and produce. When you have a young guy that
- 28:30came like no one's heard of and all of a sudden like a, you
- 28:33know, no offense to like a Jordan Westbrook didn't have
- 28:35the, the hype, didn't have the spotlight, didn't have his dad,
- 28:40you know, being a former big leaguer sitting in, in the 3rd
- 28:42row. Like those types of aspects to
- 28:45it where it's it, there's not time.
- 28:48The one of the biggest things Ryan said was to settle in.
- 28:51Like there's, there's just so much going on, There's so much
- 28:55attention. So for him to have like a full
- 28:58spring training to be around incredible defenders, some of
- 29:05the best defenders we grew up watching, to have that, just
- 29:09those opportunities to like understand, this is where I'm
- 29:12going to be. This is my home and I'm and I'm
- 29:16going to have the opportunity to play every day without the hype,
- 29:20without, you know, I don't want dad sitting there constantly in
- 29:24the interviews. I don't want to have that.
- 29:26I want to just be another one of the guys to settle in.
- 29:29So those reps are going to help him a ton.
- 29:31I think I like that pic so much that I'm going to stay in
- 29:36Baltimore, but not for good reasons.
- 29:40Unfortunately. I'm going to have to watch what
- 29:42this rotation is going to be doing.
- 29:48I there's obvious disappointment here.
- 29:51There's Orioles fans, there's fans around the league that have
- 29:56watched the the bubble ready to burst in Baltimore and they just
- 30:03didn't really do much this offseason to take that next
- 30:06step. So, you know, when you're
- 30:09looking at some of these names like it, it's it's not bad.
- 30:13I do see innings getting eaten up here, you know, between a Zac
- 30:17Eflyn, between a Charlie Morton. I, I do like what I saw in
- 30:22Albert Suarez last year. I, I, I think Dean Kramer's
- 30:27probably just a very good middle of the rotation kind of guy.
- 30:33And then Ken Grayson, like take those steps, you know, and so
- 30:38there's there's question marks throughout this that I'm unsure
- 30:42about, you know, and Kyle Bradish, like it's, it's just
- 30:47something that I want to see. And I I think this is a year
- 30:52where the AL East is going to be better than it has been in in
- 30:56the years past. I think you're seeing, you know,
- 31:02the Yankees. I don't think there's huge.
- 31:05Fall off for. Regression from last year, but
- 31:07they're still going to be at the top of the conversation.
- 31:10The Red Sox obviously took steps like the Blue Jays are in
- 31:13desperation mode and kind of just having to succeed.
- 31:17This is just the way it is the Rays getting, you know, some of
- 31:21their studs back from injuries. The Orioles have to go, man.
- 31:27Like they've they've got to figure it out.
- 31:28They've I'm I'm just disappointed in in what happened
- 31:34and I'm curious to see how quickly they pivot.
- 31:38I'm curious to see if there's a surprising, you know, we're
- 31:41going to prove everybody wrong and and all of a sudden this
- 31:44rotation comes out and dices. You know, there's nothing wrong
- 31:47with having under the radar names.
- 31:49We we saw what the Detroit Tigers, you know, rotation can
- 31:54do, but that's having a dude that's having a Cy Young guy at
- 31:58the top. And even then they fall short.
- 32:01So it's like if this roster and this young core is ready to pop,
- 32:06why aren't they doing more? Why aren't they bringing some
- 32:09guys in? And what is it about about their
- 32:15coaching, about their philosophy that isn't quite clicking right?
- 32:19Jack Flaherty didn't seem to really like it there.
- 32:22I think there's a reason Corbin Burns didn't want to come back
- 32:25there. I don't know what's going on,
- 32:28but I I need them to kind of get going because I don't want to
- 32:32see a Blue Jays 2 point OI don't want to see where we've got all
- 32:36this hype and all this young talent and it doesn't really pop
- 32:40off. I think that city and that
- 32:42organization deserves to go. They have new ownership, they've
- 32:45got new money, they've got the hype and fandom is ready to just
- 32:52celebrate what this team can do. And the rest of the league needs
- 32:56to be put on notice at some point, but they need to do
- 32:59something to back it up. Then it's go time.
- 33:02So it starts with them. I'm watching the rotation.
- 33:07You're talking expectations, fan base that's eager to see some
- 33:11success, really little to no expectations for this team but
- 33:17this player. However, I'm very much excited
- 33:20to to see whether or not 2025 is the year that this individual
- 33:26becomes more of a household name.
- 33:28Because I'll admit, I'd you being out there, you may know a
- 33:32little bit more about the trajectory of his career, but I
- 33:37feel like I know very little about his skill set, what he
- 33:42offers. But I'm I'll say this, I'm
- 33:46excited to learn Ezekiel Tovar. It's a great pull.
- 33:51This dude, this, this is an exciting baseball player.
- 33:57This is an exciting baseball player.
- 33:58Like I looked up he put up he had 20 spare me the Coors Field.
- 34:03He put up 26 jacks last year, 26 OPS plus A1 O 3.
- 34:13Some of the comps I've seen, I actually saw it sweet put out by
- 34:17MLB Network through their age 2020 or excuse me, they're
- 34:24through their age 22 season. He has more home runs then
- 34:32Frankie Lindor, Zander Bogart's Troy Tulowitzki more RBIs than
- 34:39those 3 and has accumulated a WAR of 5.9 and the comp that I'm
- 34:48interested in hearing maybe your thoughts on through age 2022
- 34:54season A59 war for Tovar, a 5.4 for Zana Bogart's Troy
- 35:00Tulowitzki 6.4. Those are two I mean go ahead
- 35:05and assume Lindor's and and sort of a league is a league of his
- 35:08own in that regard. But Bogart's and Tulo, I feel
- 35:11if, if you can get a if, if Tovar is able to continue to
- 35:16post because he posts last two years, 153 games played, 157
- 35:23games played. He he missed three games because
- 35:27of the birth of birth of his kid.
- 35:29So fair. I'm I'm sure it sounds like he
- 35:32didn't. He was trying to look for
- 35:34another way to avoid it so he could just take the field.
- 35:37But if he's going to be able to provide you, if he's going to
- 35:40stay healthy, he's going to be able to provide you that
- 35:42consistency and and improve on a like a 26 Homer season.
- 35:50I'll take a I'll take a healthy Trevor story type from that all
- 35:56day. He's locked.
- 35:57I think his option contract ends in what, 20-30?
- 36:02I think he has an option for 2031.
- 36:06But yeah, lock, sign me up for that.
- 36:10Sign me up for that. And so the the storyline here is
- 36:14ultimately, again, sort of as I was alluding to, if he can, if
- 36:18Savar can become even more so of a household name and to to many,
- 36:21he may already be in. Apologies for again, just not
- 36:25being fully up to speed on on what this guy brings to the
- 36:29table. But I'm excited to watch this
- 36:35one of the one of the very few bright spots in Colorado right
- 36:40now. Yeah, you're exactly right,
- 36:42dude. I mean, the the problem is this,
- 36:47I feel like anybody that's familiar with the Rockies is
- 36:50like, we've seen this story before then, no pun intended,
- 36:53but like it started with Tulo and then it went to Trevor's
- 36:56story and Aronado and you're like, and DJ Lemahieu, like you
- 37:00see these like, and I'm not going to sit here and just give
- 37:05all the praise to being at Mile High and and playing Coors
- 37:08Field. Like, no, that's not the only
- 37:11production you're getting. It's just can they build around
- 37:16it and this is the first time that they've committed long term
- 37:21to an affordable contract that is realistic for them that
- 37:25allows them to fill in the the gaps in the other way.
- 37:29They have some talent there. They've got some promise on the
- 37:33offensive side. They're always going to struggle
- 37:35to get pitching. I'm just eager to see that like,
- 37:40is this different? They're producing dudes.
- 37:45It's just not clicking and and all the all the pieces aren't
- 37:49coming together at the same time.
- 37:51And outside of, you know, what was a very fun ride to witness
- 37:56in in 2007. And yeah, they, you know, got
- 38:01got hammered in the World Series.
- 38:02But like a lot of what they did that year was it was very like
- 38:082004 Red Sox. It was very just hodgepodgey,
- 38:14some vets mixed in with some young guys and a lot of names
- 38:18that nobody really is familiar with until they pop off.
- 38:22So like you see how rare those those teams come around.
- 38:27That's not a normal thing, right?
- 38:29Like there's a reason why we still reference those teams
- 38:33because it's been over 20 years and we haven't really seen any
- 38:38other repeats like that is it just doesn't happen.
- 38:40It's just how the cards fall sometimes.
- 38:43But like they can't just sit and bank on that.
- 38:45The Rockies can't expect that same recipe to to come back and
- 38:50and save the day again. They have to pull the trigger on
- 38:53some names. They have to find a way to
- 38:55commit to more than just one or two pieces and then piss that
- 39:00guy off until he wants to be traded and go find success
- 39:03somewhere else. So I'd I'd like to say it's
- 39:06going to be different. I hope that he's not.
- 39:10It's not just a one man show there.
- 39:12You know, I'd like to see some success in in Colorado.
- 39:15It's another, you know, it's another franchise that could use
- 39:19it a new chapter. But it's a good storyline, man,
- 39:23that guy's a stud. And for those unfamiliar with
- 39:26that name, or or maybe haven't, you know, gotten to watch too
- 39:29many games because why would you turn the Rockies game on?
- 39:32I get it. That's a good name to watch,
- 39:34man. He gives me Willy Adamus vibes
- 39:37too. That's that's kind of another
- 39:40trajectory that I I see in my head.
- 39:43Just some occasional surprising pop plays good defense, very
- 39:48athletic, probably never really like a big league leader at that
- 39:52position in any given stat, but is like very consistently good
- 39:57across the board. And you may never see a 150 or
- 40:02over OPS plus out of him, but I think the floor is really high.
- 40:09Than than most guys. It's a great point.
- 40:12It's a great point. Does that wrap us up?
- 40:18I think it does. Then I think you should go ahead
- 40:21and hit that button because I think it's along the same lines,
- 40:24kind of not really. Whose quote was this?
- 40:55Whose quote was this laid on? Me, you said.
- 40:57You preface it by saying wow, this.
- 40:59This could be a tricky one this. Is a little tricky 1.
- 41:02You told me like, is this a, is this a good take?
- 41:06Is this a? Is this a poor take?
- 41:08It's it's kind of back and forth.
- 41:10Depends on who you ask is what you told.
- 41:12Me, we did a little bit of this today.
- 41:14It's not really necessarily sleepers, but it is something
- 41:19that we're looking out for. This is an episode March 1st of
- 41:242021 and we were talking about sleepers, guys that we wanted to
- 41:31pay attention to. Old of you to assume I wanted
- 41:34the the episode info first. I hear you, but I had to give
- 41:37you some context that's kind of just goes right into that here.
- 41:40I love a good segue. All right, I'm going Marcella
- 41:44Zuna. I think it's a pick we've
- 41:47already talked about, but it's a pick in my opinion that should
- 41:50have happened immediately. Four years, 64 mil.
- 41:54But I mean, obviously just coming off a monster 2020
- 41:57season, biggest thing for me, continue to provide protection
- 42:01for Freddie Freeman, which regardless of what he really
- 42:05does at the plate, as long as he can provide a presence at the
- 42:07plate and allow Freeman to continue raking, that's a win in
- 42:11my book. So I don't really care what he
- 42:13does. He's going to perform.
- 42:14But at the very least, if he doesn't, still going to protect
- 42:17Freeman. That fit just makes sense in
- 42:20Atlanta. That is tricky.
- 42:24That could be. That could be you or me.
- 42:27I was. It's tricky also because of
- 42:30like, were we right? Were we wrong?
- 42:34Yeah, well, I'm, yeah, No, you're right.
- 42:36I'm, I'm just saying in the, in the, in the context of picking
- 42:41up on little like isms that we that you and I each have, it's
- 42:46like you sprinkled in some, you sprinkled in some good ones
- 42:50there. I'm like, oh, that's me.
- 42:51And then I heard another one. I'm like, that's definitely
- 42:53Nate. My gut says one thing, but I
- 43:00don't really feel like going with my gut today.
- 43:02So I'm going to go ahead and say this was you.
- 43:14Should have went with my gut. Yeah, Should have gone with the
- 43:17gut. It was Mr. Casey.
- 43:20So I pulled up some numbers because I was like, I wonder how
- 43:24did it age like milk or did it age like wine, Right.
- 43:28And that's what the song lyrics are.
- 43:30And it's tough. And if there's any Braves fans
- 43:32in the chat, feel free to hop in.
- 43:35This was kind of weird because 2021 was the year that, you
- 43:41know, there was some domestic violence stuff.
- 43:43We had the the suspension in 2022 that officially settled in.
- 43:48He only played 48 games in 2021. He didn't do well those
- 43:53back-to-back seasons. It was a 645 OPSA, 687 OPS.
- 44:02And then 2023 came around and that's where we settled in I
- 44:08guess. 40 jacks to 39 last year OPS both years over 900, like
- 44:15OPS plus 1:40 and 1:54. Like those are big numbers.
- 44:23So I'm like I, I, I think I got to give you some credit, like
- 44:28you were half right. The stuff about Freddie Freeman
- 44:31was unfortunate. I didn't mean to throw jabs that
- 44:33way, but I didn't say it. So I.
- 44:37Think what was the bit about because I think it was just
- 44:40about. Protecting him, I guess that's
- 44:41what you were more worried about.
- 44:45You're like, just protect him. I don't care about anything
- 44:49else, just protect him. How is that a jab at Freddie?
- 44:52Freeman No, it's just like a jab at that the the Braves fans for
- 44:58mentioning his name. I feel like it's like a
- 44:59Voldemort, you know what I mean? Like you can't that's fair.
- 45:01You can't say Freddie Freeman to them.
- 45:04That's fair, but. I don't know, but yeah man, I
- 45:07think it it aged like target. Wine.
- 45:14Like, not a great wine, not a great.
- 45:16Wine. A great wine.
- 45:18You know, maybe a couple more years of this.
- 45:20And it gets the job done. Yeah, we upgrade it to a a
- 45:23local. Winery.
- 45:24Who knows, We'll see. Let us commence.
- 45:32Wow, that was good. Let us commence the draft we
- 45:36have on deck for today the entire career with one team
- 45:43draft. Let us see here.
- 45:49Got to let the folks know on on Twitter they they love they love
- 45:52a good draft. They do, folks.
- 45:54Folks on Instagram however, I don't know, can't say the same.
- 45:59They hate, I think people on Instagram just don't like us.
- 46:04I think there's a lot of people that just don't like us, but
- 46:06it's fine. You know, we can sit here and
- 46:08talk ball. It's it's cool.
- 46:09I'm cool. So yeah, this is the entire
- 46:12career with one draft. The stipulation is that the the
- 46:17list of players that we're going off of requires that they had
- 46:22spent 10 years at least at the big league level and of those 10
- 46:29plus years obviously all with one team.
- 46:31So no randomizer today. We're just going straight draft.
- 46:35You can start wherever you want on the diamond.
- 46:38And regarding positions, we are going with our alternate.
- 46:46The. Alternate, our alternate
- 46:48structure, we're going 4 infielders, we're going 3
- 46:53outfielders, we're going we'll have ADH and we'll have a
- 47:00starting pitcher. And so as a result of Nate
- 47:05winning last last episodes draft or no?
- 47:12Oh yeah, it was a draft of active hit like totals.
- 47:18We'll call. IT active career.
- 47:20Yeah, active career hit total. You won that that that did not
- 47:25require a vote. That was just a straight up Fact
- 47:28Check, which we did and Nate won.
- 47:30So as a result, Nate will get first pick for this draft.
- 47:35Nate. I mean, hit me with Cal Ripken
- 47:40Junior, the Iron Man himself. Really.
- 47:46Yep. Really.
- 47:49Yep. I mean, all right, and we're
- 48:00doing snake draft, correct as we as we do, OK, All right, So Nate
- 48:06went. Cal 21 seasons.
- 48:15Give me the Splendid Splinter, the greatest hitter, whoever
- 48:23lived there. You go.
- 48:25Ted Williams in my outfield and then give me.
- 48:53This is tough. There's we've already reached
- 48:56that point in the draft where I'm I'm not entirely sure who
- 49:00who I want to go with here. Give me.
- 49:19No, I've I, you know what? I I made this.
- 49:22I've made this mistake before. I'm not.
- 49:25I'm going to play it smart here. Give me where can I where can I
- 49:32slot him? Can I slot him?
- 49:36We're not doing a reliever by the way, right, just the
- 49:38starter, correct. OK, so.
- 49:52You already got to go to the committee.
- 49:57Well, I mean, are we, are we just essentially chalking up DH
- 50:01as a free spot basically, Yeah. OK, give me, you know what?
- 50:10Give me Roberto Clemente. Solid, solid.
- 50:20Give me Roberto Clemente, what do you got?
- 50:25Give me Jeter then, yes, there was some strategy there.
- 50:34And then give me Bob Gibson on the bump.
- 50:44Hey, I hate that. I hate that.
- 50:48That was stupid dude. I should have.
- 50:49What was I thinking? I should have?
- 50:51I should have assumed you were going there and just snag them
- 50:55while I could. All right, well.
- 51:03I was looking at Roberto Clemente too.
- 51:05Give me well, I I don't need to rush to get a pitcher now.
- 51:10I guess you don't. That's that's now that's nice.
- 51:15That's. Nice, that's a nice aspect.
- 51:17I can, I can, I can go last pick if I wanted to.
- 51:25Should I go Walter Johnson on the bump?
- 51:28Not enough people talk about Walter Johnson.
- 51:34I'm going to I'm going to just going to double check here.
- 51:45Double check, double check. Oh.
- 51:59Give me give me Mickey Mantle in the outfield, jeez.
- 52:12And then give me Tony. Gwynn is my DH.
- 52:18Wow, Yeah. So I don't need to rush to the
- 52:28outfield. You should've.
- 52:32You should've. I'll say that.
- 52:34I mean, you let you, you left. You left the greatest hitter of
- 52:40all time, two of the greatest hitters of all time.
- 52:44I mean, these are all great hitters, but two of the great
- 52:46without argument, two of the greatest hitters of all time on
- 52:49the board. And then you just handed me
- 52:52Roberto Clemente and Mickey Mantle.
- 52:53What are we talking about? You think I'm stressed?
- 52:55I'm not stressed. I am not stressed. 2 picks Give
- 53:13me give me Chipper Jones. When I ask Gehrig when it when
- 53:23you asked me if we're doing a reliever, I said no, right?
- 53:28I was correct, OK. I was just.
- 53:31I was searching players couldn't remember what I told you.
- 53:32All right, so you're taking Chipper?
- 53:35And Lou Gehrig. In that order.
- 53:39In that order, sure. Not that it matters, but not
- 53:43that it matters. Some of the, well, some of the
- 53:44graphics. I put the draft pick number next
- 53:47to it just so people know what the overall pick was because we
- 53:50do the snake draft. All right.
- 53:51So your infield is set. All right.
- 53:56So I have no infield. Which is.
- 53:59I'm cool. I'm I'm totally fine.
- 54:02I'm I could not be more fun. Give me.
- 54:08So I need 3 infielders and a starting pitcher.
- 54:12No, I mean excuse me, 4 infielders and a starting
- 54:14pitcher. And a catcher?
- 54:16Are we doing a catcher? Sorry, forgot about that.
- 54:21OK, OK, give me. Oh, now this is interesting.
- 54:48This is interesting. What kind of give me, give me
- 55:10Stan Musial at in the infield? OK.
- 55:22And give me. Hold on.
- 55:42I just need to confirm one thing and then we are good to go.
- 55:55Give me. The hold on the Is he the only?
- 56:11No, I don't even know what you're doing.
- 56:16Whatever. Oh, what am I doing?
- 56:20No, give me Johnny Bench behind the dish.
- 56:23What am I thinking? Yeah, that's what were you
- 56:27thinking before that? I wasn't thinking Johnny Bench,
- 56:30and I saw, well, I mean, whatever, if you're going to
- 56:34pick him, you're going to pick him.
- 56:35But I saw. Joe Mauer, Anyone else to pick?
- 56:37I think those are the only two catchers, aren't there?
- 56:39Yeah, well, I saw Joe Mauer and I was like, he certainly he
- 56:42can't be the only one that only played the only, the only Hall
- 56:45of Famer, I should say. I I should clarify, only two
- 56:48Hall of Famers. All right, all right, all right.
- 56:55I was hoping I could go one more round before Johnny Bench went,
- 57:00but that's all right. That is OK.
- 57:05That is OK. The on this list, your eyes like
- 57:19automatically go to the Hall of Farmers, but they're still like
- 57:22really good names that aren't Hall of Farmers.
- 57:25Oh yeah, there's some dudes, there's some dudes give.
- 57:30So if you go like line up configuration, it could make
- 57:34things, you know, like it kind of changes your mind a little
- 57:36bit. Yeah, you got to give the
- 57:38because like. Pepper Martin has to be
- 57:40considered, you know. OK, all right, Yo, shout out.
- 57:44But if you know ball, you know Bobby Higginson, that now that
- 57:51is a jersey that I would buy in a minute, dude.
- 57:54Bobby Higginson, back when I played, what was that?
- 57:57What was that computer? What was that PC game?
- 58:00It was like Triple play 2000 something.
- 58:06I played with the Tigers a lot for some reason, and Bobby
- 58:08Higginson was that dude mashed. I'm going to go with.
- 58:23Ryan Howard's on this list. I know, crazy.
- 58:32Well, just to give me a little more time, I'll give you 1.
- 58:35Going to go Joe DiMaggio in the outfield.
- 58:52I hate that you got Bob Gibson. That just kills me.
- 58:56I know this. I'm trying to think like
- 59:02strategy wise you know? I don't think there's anything
- 59:08to strategize though. Well, I still have my DH that
- 59:11like just makes me kind of. Oh, I see.
- 59:16Wait, Yeah, that's the, I think that's the last domino here.
- 59:30Sorry buddy, DH is like a hard one to to commit to.
- 59:47I'll go Edgar Martinez. I'll do that.
- 59:49I'll I'll stay traditional, get the 1st.
- 59:56You're going Edgar Hall Famer, DH.
- 59:59There you go. OK on the infield.
- 1:00:11As that is all I need left outside of my picture which I'm
- 1:00:15saving for last. Give me
- 1:00:34give me two. I would say the two best.
- 1:00:44Well, let me just make sure I'm not missing anybody obvious
- 1:00:50here. Give me two of the best, the two
- 1:01:03best third baseman of all time. Sure.
- 1:01:07Give me my I hate when you say that because then it makes me
- 1:01:11think I've left somebody off. No, I think that that's like
- 1:01:14it's a no brainer because those names are like I went back and
- 1:01:17forth with for my DH. Give me yeah.
- 1:01:26Give me Mike Schmidt and Brooks Robinson.
- 1:01:33All. Right.
- 1:01:39So you got one infielder left in a starting pitcher?
- 1:01:43And a starting pitcher. I've got 2 outfielders and my
- 1:01:48ketcha. In the chat can't can't go with
- 1:02:01Kershaw because career has yet to finish, so who knows, maybe
- 1:02:06he plays with the Rangers. You never know, Never know.
- 1:02:11I doubt it, doubt it. Battlefield gets a little thin
- 1:02:17eventually, you know, no disrespect, but I mean it does
- 1:02:25thin out. It was your own fault.
- 1:02:28Yeah, I went heavy infield. You went heavy outfield.
- 1:02:31I didn't really realize how deep the infield was.
- 1:02:35Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, that's.
- 1:02:39I mean, to be fair, I'm not going to sit here and pretend
- 1:02:41like I knew either, but it was just luck.
- 1:02:46It's a happy coincidence. Just go with Joe Dimaggio's
- 1:02:57brother. I don't think we have to get to
- 1:03:02that point yet. I now I bet you I bet if you did
- 1:03:09go with Dom DiMaggio, people that voted on it would as they
- 1:03:13do with all these drafts, they'd be like, no, you know, Nate,
- 1:03:16Nate going with the brother chemistry there that's going to
- 1:03:19play huge in the clubhouse. I think that'll that'll really
- 1:03:22have have that'll pay good dividends.
- 1:03:25For that team. OK, exactly, exactly.
- 1:03:30He knows what he's doing. The logic.
- 1:03:33Nah. No, the logic of no, you know
- 1:03:38what? I'm going to say anything.
- 1:03:42Our voters are great. Give me, give me Kirby Pocket.
- 1:03:48You already use your DH, so this is outfield.
- 1:03:57And you need another outfielder and a catcher.
- 1:04:01Yep, and Carl Ystromsky. Good pick, Good pick.
- 1:04:10I was considering Carl, but I wasn't going to put Carl above
- 1:04:15Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente or Mickey Mantle, you know?
- 1:04:17Sure, Understandable. OK, for my I need one more
- 1:04:23infielder, correct? You do, and a starting pitcher.
- 1:04:27One more infielder and a starting pitcher.
- 1:04:31How can we just go ahead and finish off this dub here?
- 1:04:36Another third baseman. Oh, you already have Mike
- 1:04:43Schmidt. My bad.
- 1:04:45Yeah. Yeah, sure do.
- 1:04:49Sure do. I think this was a better draft
- 1:04:56to go second, those back-to-back picks right away, you know?
- 1:05:04I mean, to be fair, you, you could have grabbed one of those
- 1:05:07guys, but you were, you were playing strategy.
- 1:05:12And I'll probably still win this thing.
- 1:05:14No, I've, I've quite frankly, I, I, I don't think you will.
- 1:05:17I got a real good mix. I I mean, you got a good mix,
- 1:05:21but just hands down better for me, but that, that's just what
- 1:05:25the paper says. There's a lot of there's a lot
- 1:05:28of fans behind some of these names.
- 1:05:30Your fans are too dead to vote so.
- 1:05:34You know, that's a great observation.
- 1:05:36I think that is like, jokes aside, I, yeah, I think, I think
- 1:05:40that plays into the voting 'cause they're like, sometimes
- 1:05:42we'll do these drafts that involve former like, you know,
- 1:05:45well, past players have been gone for years or whatever.
- 1:05:49And I think like on paper I'm like, I, I should walk away with
- 1:05:52this cleanly. And then it's like 7525 in favor
- 1:05:57of Nate. I'm like I I these people just
- 1:05:59not understand who some of the games greatest players.
- 1:06:02Are or I think the question of who you start your franchise
- 1:06:05with probably doesn't start with Stan Musial, you know what I
- 1:06:09mean? Like, I don't think that is
- 1:06:13somebody who who gets a lot of I'm not saying it's justified,
- 1:06:17but I think that he. That's the key.
- 1:06:21That's the key. You can't say that it's not.
- 1:06:23You can't say that it's justified because it's not.
- 1:06:26If you knew ball. You guys, sometimes you got to
- 1:06:29get out there and go get dubs. I'd rather I'd rather lay my lay
- 1:06:35my head on my pillow at night knowing that I picked just on
- 1:06:38paper, a better, a better club, a better squad than trying to
- 1:06:43win these win these measly drafts that are lopsided anyway.
- 1:06:51OK, you know what? Give me, I mean, I, I could, I,
- 1:07:02I got, I got a couple choices here.
- 1:07:06Who do I want to? Hold on, give me, give me your
- 1:07:25Jackie Robinson on the infield. And to round it out, give me on
- 1:07:36the bump. One of the greatest.
- 1:07:42There we go. One of the greatest peaks of all
- 1:07:44time. I mean, I can't say carriers
- 1:07:47sadly cut short. Go ahead and just give me, give
- 1:07:54me hold on one last one last scan.
- 1:08:03One last scan. Yeah, go ahead, give me.
- 1:08:14I'm already writing it. See, now, you've said that
- 1:08:18before, and then I'll save my pick and then you'll look up at
- 1:08:22me. Whoa.
- 1:08:24OK, so I'm trying to avoid that. It's already happened multiple
- 1:08:28times, so I'm just trying to avoid it.
- 1:08:31OK, You went Bob Gibson, which would have been my pick, Walter
- 1:08:41Johnson. I mean, you want to talk about
- 1:08:43one of the greatest of all time, Big train.
- 1:08:45Shut up. Big train.
- 1:08:47Go ahead. Check out that baseball
- 1:08:49reference page someday. You're bored.
- 1:08:52It's pretty crazy. Bored.
- 1:08:56Oh, if you're bored, yeah. Gross. 110 career shutouts.
- 1:09:03That that's unheard of. Give me.
- 1:09:07Go ahead. Give me Sandy Koufax and give me
- 1:09:13the win. Give me a sneaky name behind the
- 1:09:22dish that doesn't have yellow for Hall of Fame on this list
- 1:09:26yet. But he will.
- 1:09:28Yadi or Molina will be behind the dish for me.
- 1:09:35Said he didn't want to go. Joe Mauer.
- 1:09:37No, I think Yadis goes down as the.
- 1:09:41This is the superior there. Good stuff, guy.
- 1:09:49I like it. All right, So recapping here on
- 1:09:53the infield, Nate's got Cal Ripken, Derek Jeter, Chipper
- 1:09:57Jones and Lou Gehrig. On my infield, I've got Stan
- 1:10:01Mutual, Mike Schmidt, Brooks Robinson and Jackie Robinson.
- 1:10:06In Nate's outfield, Joe DiMaggio, Kirby Puckett, Carl
- 1:10:10Yastrzemski and my outfield Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente and
- 1:10:15Mickey Mantle for Nate's DH, Edgar Martinez for my DH, Tony
- 1:10:20Gwynn. Behind the dish, Nate's got
- 1:10:24Yadier Molina, I've got Johnny Bench.
- 1:10:27And on the bump, Nate's got Bob Gibson to my Sandy Koufax.
- 1:10:34That'll do it. I think you should get the dub,
- 1:10:38but I, I think you got to take in the again, you got to account
- 1:10:43for the age of our listeners and voters, you know?
- 1:10:51I mean, what does that say about the younger?
- 1:10:53Generation. That's crazy.
- 1:10:55Yeah, if I don't care if you're nine years old, if you don't
- 1:10:59know Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente or Mickey Mantle, you
- 1:11:03need to re evaluate the the adults in your life because
- 1:11:07they're clearly not. They're not leading you in the
- 1:11:10direction you need to be LED. I'll just say that.
- 1:11:16Oh, I'm going to go take a nap, I think.
- 1:11:19Enjoy your Sunday. You too guy, enjoy this L that
- 1:11:24you're going to catch. It's not justified.
- 1:11:28It's not justified, but yeah, enjoy.
- 1:11:31Enjoy your Sunday folks and have a great week.
- 1:11:34Check out the check out the aforementioned shop.
- 1:11:38I've had some folks asking where they can snag some of these hats
- 1:11:41we've been wearing these last few weeks.
- 1:11:43You already know. On the shop, grab some jerseys,
- 1:11:49grab some teas. Jersey's a pretty fire.
- 1:11:55You can see Mama Mama Reyes was rocking one at the game.
- 1:11:58I didn't see that. No, I didn't see the picture.
- 1:12:00Yep. She was rocking it.
- 1:12:02Love that she. Came with a Todd Hilton jersey.
- 1:12:06She's like, oh, the Rockies aren't playing.
- 1:12:07No, sorry, Ma. She's like, all right, give me
- 1:12:10the three O take Jersey. But if the Rockies were playing
- 1:12:15three O take staying in the closet.
- 1:12:17That would, yeah. Old Toddy.
- 1:12:19Hilton. Fair enough, Fair enough.
- 1:12:21It's the nod, but that's all right.
- 1:12:23By the way, honorable mention for me, Todd Hilton's like like
- 1:12:26a personal favorite, but I know he doesn't steal steal the
- 1:12:29votes. Any who's you guys are awesome.
- 1:12:33Thanks for hanging out and don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:12:36Love you all, and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:12:38baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
