- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Divas That Care Network.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: I am Joyce Benning, and I will be your host for this exciting, robust lifestyle show.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Please check out our website, DivasThatCare.com, and see all the amazing hosts and their shows of women they are interviewing.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: I am just overly excited today to have a brand new diva with me, Sue Murphy.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: And she is going to speak about...
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: clean content comics and toys for kids.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I am just overly thrilled.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Sue, could you please tell our listeners a little bit about yourself today?
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Of
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: course.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm Sue.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: I'm the owner of Sue Woodworks and the creator of Little Cruisers.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: And I created Little Cruisers for clean kid content and to help expand the imaginations of kids and to help them grow.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, my goodness.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: I love that already.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Building children's imagination.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: You are giving them a tool to use what they naturally have is their imagination.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Oh,
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: how awesome.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Imagination is a big part of everything.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: It's the building blocks everything in the known world.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Gracious.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Well, do you feel that that's what got your passion interested was by using your imagination to create these toys?
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Yes, and part of me, because I started out wanting to be an aerospace engineer.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: And so I literally took a drastic different path in my life, obviously, because I'm now doing cartoons and animation.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: And...
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Like, the imagination is important to me because my favorite scientist said imagination is more important than knowledge because knowledge is limited.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Imagination, it circles the world.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: But, yeah, no, I feel like I changed my path because I literally, I prayed to God.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: I said, I don't feel like this is what I'm supposed to do.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: And I asked him, hey, can you show me what I'm supposed to do?
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: And that's what I got led to do with the toys and the comics to help kids around the world.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, man, what a testimony.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: That is beautiful.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Well, when did you realize that this was your passion, and do you feel that this is kind of a two-part question, and do you feel this is a God-given talent that you were given to be able to do this woodworking?
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Of course, because honestly, I...
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: I was actually scared of saws up until I was a high school student.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: I took a woodshop class, and I absolutely fell in love with it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: And naturally, like, I taught myself how to draw.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: It was literally, if it wasn't God, of course it's God.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: But, like, I couldn't have done it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: It becomes extremely naturally compared to everything else.
- 3:45UNKNOWN: Mm-hmm.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: So you were basically in high school age when you realized that this was a God-given talent that was given to you.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: So I was 15 when I decided I wanted to do it, and then I started my business at 16.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow, girl.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's incredible.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: So you were a very young entrepreneur that started your own business.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: How did you start it?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: What made you decide that you wanted to do toys?
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: I wanted to somehow involve woodworking, and woodworking came involved into toys.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: And then the toys involved into characters, and the characters involved into the comics.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: So that's how, because I wanted to involve wood somehow.
- 4:43UNKNOWN: Okay.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: So all of my toys are completely made of wood.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: They're solid wood.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Even down to the bills.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Because some people don't believe it.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: They're like, are these rubber because they're painted black?
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: But if you were to sand them down, they are birch wood.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: So everything's solidly made of wood.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: So do you design all of– I see on your website– You have all kinds of different little toy characters.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Do you design each one yourself?
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: At the moment, yeah, I do all of them.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: I do the box designs.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of a one-man band in that aspect.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: But, yeah, so I design all of them.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: I design all the boxes that go to them and everything.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: So right now, we have the little cruisers, and I'm trying to work on other toy lines and characters at the moment, too, to bring out at the end of the year.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, my goodness.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: So, yes, if you would, please share a little more information about the little cruisers.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Explain to our listeners what those really are.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: They're a set of cartoon cars.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: They're like little kids.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: And they go on adventures teaching about life lessons.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Or, like, for instance, Archie, which is a semi-truck, he– on some of our monthly comics, he teaches to cook.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Like, and they're legitimate recipes.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: And I put them in there for, like, certain occasions for Halloween.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: He did caramel apples.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: Or Frankie in one of the tractors, they taught about gardening one month.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Or sometimes they do– I do detective stories and some just fun, whole, clean content in those aspects.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Now, your toys match up with your comics that you do then, correct?
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Tell our listeners a little more about these comics, too, because, oh, I'm interested in them.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: That sounds so neat.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: They are, and...
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: they go out monthly to all the sign-ups.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: You can actually sign up on our website, and it's completely free, and anybody could get them in the mail.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: And they come out every second Saturday approximately, depending on where you're located.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: And they get sent out, and it's the one that's usually on the website every month.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: So
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: the new issue.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: my goodness.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So great.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: If a parent would like to have their child receive your comics on a monthly basis, they can just go to your website and sign up for it and free a charge?
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: And it's actually my favorite part
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: of
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: my job.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, my goodness.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is incredible.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: And do you do all the drawings and everything for the comics then too?
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness, girl, I have seen them.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: They are incredible.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Listeners, you need to go to Sue's Woodworks website and check these out.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: They are just incredible comics.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And I love the one about the gardening.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: That was so cute about getting the seeds mixed up.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Right, it's an awful bummer
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: that happens.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: That happens all too frequently.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is just adorable.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Well, and as we talk a little bit about the comics, I want to share with our listeners, Sue will be our featured on Divas at Cares Giving Tuesday.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: So she will have more information about her comics on there.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: We are so excited to be highlighting her on there.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, this is just incredible what you are doing, girl.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: How can some of our listeners get involved by supporting you?
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I just talked a little bit about Giving Tuesday, which would be one way.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: What are some ways that they can get involved if this is something they would like to be involved with with their kids?
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: Well, you could follow us or like us on Facebook because at the end of the year, I do plan to come.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: The Little Cruisers will have a TV show.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: If they do like the comments and they do like the comments, there will be a show to follow.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: So if you like us and follow us on our social media, you can see that to come in later December.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, my word.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: So by the end of the year, you plan to have a TV show for these little toy characters?
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Yep,
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: And I'm actually in the process of working on making an animation studio.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, you are an incredible young entrepreneur.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: This is just awesome.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Well, how many different characters do you have of the toys right currently?
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: I don't know that right off the top of my head.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: I know the original five.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: Because last year I came out with the editions, which was Lily and Kenny.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: And then the three tractors and then...
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: I have an airplane on my website, too, but it's not part of the characters.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: But I do plan to come out with more this year as well.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, my.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's just so awesome.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Well, and if you could share some of the other items that can go along with each one of the little toy characters, I was excited about seeing all that that comes available with it.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Also, if you could share a little bit about that, too.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, of course.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: We have T-shirts that go with them.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: We have posters, coloring books, and a bunch of, we also have like buttons and stuff.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: We have a bunch of accessories that go with these guys, which is pretty cool because we ended quite a bit last year.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: how neat.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: That is neat.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Well, and I even saw, did you do a coloring contest here within the last few months for children?
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, I do it every Christmas.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: So, like, it gives the kids the opportunity to win something.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: We do three age groups, so even adults can do it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: So they can sit down as a family and just have, like, make it kind of a tradition, and everybody can turn them in.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: It doesn't matter what age you are.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: And each group gets– like, for instance, if you color Archie, you entered in for Archie.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: So I'll give out three sets per group.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: And that goes– I– That comes on right after Thanksgiving, and then it will run through Christmas.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: But, yeah, we do that every
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: year.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: You do that every year?
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, my word.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Is it your imagination that gives you all these ideas, Sue?
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: I'm just going, where are you figuring all of this out from?
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Part
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: of it is...
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Well, imagination and, too, I'm kind of old school because I'm like, I like the whole coloring contest, getting the mail in the hand kind of gig and that and follow where God wants me to go where I feel like he's calling me to and that needs help and that's where I go.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: wow.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's beautiful.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: You follow your heart where God is at and he leads you on that path.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: How gorgeous.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: And like you said, you're helping build children's imaginations.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Well, how did you decide that kids were the ones you wanted to target?
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, you could have targeted different groups with your woodworking and different stuff.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: What made you decide you wanted to go with the toys and the children's route?
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: Well, that kind of fell into my lap.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: For instance, my comics, there's actually quite a few adults that get it as well.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: Because I've gotten fan letters that say, I don't have kids, but I absolutely love your comics, and I receive them in the mail.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: I just put clean content out there, and I said, okay, here it is.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: And it kind of gauged towards kids, because kids like cartoons and stuff.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: So I have adults that like it as well.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: And kids are definitely our future.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: And if you see the, like, I grew up with the old school kind of animation.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Like Hanna-Barbera, they're like my heroes.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you're familiar with them.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: But...
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: I liked how they did their animation and I liked how like Charles Schultz did his animation, which is the peanuts.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: Just like how like they're just wholesome and clean and just kind.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: Like Charlie Brown did getting a rock.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is just great.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: They're just kind.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: That is just beautiful.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: That's what needs to be shared so much more is kindness.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: And you just made me feel so good because I wanted to sign up for your comics.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: And I thought, okay, you're not a kid.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: You're not supposed to sign up.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: And I'm going, okay, now I can.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: I just think they are so cute.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Well, if you would...
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: you'll be able to better tell where can, where the website, and how do people go about finding where to sign up for the monthly comic ads.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: So some of the listeners are going, I want to do this.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: So they know exactly how to do it when they go looking for it.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Could you please explain that to our listeners?
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, of course.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: And so the best way is probably going on Google and searching SueWoodWorks.com.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: And Our website's pretty easy to navigate.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: At the top column, it'll say Monthly Comic, and you click on it, and you'll see this month's comic, and you just scroll down, and it says where to sign up.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: And you just put in your information, and I get it, and you'll receive the next month's comic in the mail.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That's all there is to it.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, how simple.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Well, and being on your website here, it says about our kit.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Are there kits that...
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: that families can order and paint or do themselves?
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Or what is that about our kit?
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: So I do teach a woodworking class as well.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: And at my shop I teach a woodworking class.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: But the kits are for people that are across the country because I have people that are fans across the country.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: And They're literally to build your own tractor.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: And it comes with an instructional video of how to build it, just like I would in the shop.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: And that's pretty much– it's like a little woodworking kit inside a box.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: And you don't need any tools or anything because it all comes with it.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, my goodness.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: So it's a complete– a little child says, this is what I want to try to do.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: They can order that kit, and then they can– put it all together and say, I made this.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, how cute.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: I love that idea.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: That is awesome.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Another question I had, is there a certain type of wood?
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Do you just use certain...
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Do you have a certain favorite type of wood that you like to use for these toys?
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Or do you use a wide range of woods?
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Or what kind of wood do you use in these toys?
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: It depends on the car.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: So...
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Because some of them have to go through a bandsaw, and my bandsaw is not exactly– well, it's industrial, but the blade's a little thin, so it doesn't like thicker wood like oak.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: So mostly pine.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Birch is for the wheel, mostly pine.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: It depends on the availability that I can get the wood, so it differs sometimes.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: But they are always wood, hardwood.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: Some of the custom orders I've done, which I've done in oak– Because, like, for instance, I did a custom order of a 55 Chevy, and it was made in oak.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: So it really differs.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: My favorite is probably, I would say, birch or purple oak.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Or no, it's not purple oak.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: It's purple heart.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: It looks like oak, but it's purple.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, that would be neat.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, goodness.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: So I just caught on there.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: You also do custom designs?
- 18:08UNKNOWN: Yes.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: If somebody, like you said, a 57 Chevy?
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, my goodness.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: You have 55.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: But, yeah, if people ask, I've done them.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: I've done several.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: I've done a DeLorean.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Mostly cars because they see the toy cars and they're like, oh, let me get a custom car done.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: So I've done a DeLorean.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: I've done the 1950s pickup truck.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: And I've done a few others.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: I can't.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: And then I made my own, obviously.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: I have a Ford Tinto, so I made a wood structure of it.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, goodness.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Now, do you do that from like if a customer says, I want– well, I've always loved the older Mustangs.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: So do you do that from like a picture?
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Like if somebody would send you a picture of an older Mustang– you would design it from that?
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Or how do you get the design going for that then if it's a custom order?
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: So what I do is I would look at the photo and ask certain things.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: And then I build it by layer.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of– when I build it, it looks like a complicated puzzle.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: But you never could tell it was a complicated puzzle when you actually see the finished project.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: So it's I just look at the picture and I design it to build it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: So you can design from that picture without even a pattern, really.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: You're just looking at a picture and designing it.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: I just have to see the car
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: and build it.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Truly a God-given talent, girl, to do it without any kind of pattern, just a picture in front of you.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: That's incredible.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Well, you are, Very, very busy in everything you do.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: You are giving so much back to the children, to adults with your comics, with your toys.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: How do you find time to do all of this plus still have a little bit of time for yourself?
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: A lot of scheduling.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: I have to have a planner to keep organized.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Otherwise, I would be lost.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: I have a big old calendar on my desk.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is incredible.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: That's a good way to do it, though, because then you can plan in advance.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: If you have special orders, you know exactly when they need to be done.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: And like you said, your coloring contest is every time right after Thanksgiving.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: You have a schedule.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: You work from a schedule then, kind of.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I would have to because I go to shows as well.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: And so I have to keep that in order, too, because I have to make more toys then and all that lovely stuff.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, my goodness.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: So you also do, like, trade shows, something to that aspect in shows?
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: So I actually, in 2018, PBS started doing something called Kids Fest.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: And I was invited to go.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: And that was my first biggest show.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: And I almost contracted out with PBS, but I ended up not.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: And I was so exhausted after that show that I literally fell asleep with cornbread in my mouth on the way home.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: I was like narcissistic because I had my poor mom working.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: I had my aunt working.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I need help.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: All of a sudden, it exploded because it landed in my lap because they invited me.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: I didn't know it was a thing, and so I went.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: So those are the kind of shows I do that I have to keep track of and plan
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: in advance.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Yes, I have done some trade shows myself, and I can only imagine because you have something that really catches people's eyes, and children love stuff like this.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you were...
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: overly busy at that show, especially being a kid's best yet.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I felt a little bit like a zombie because I hadn't slept.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: I was coming out of toys so fast.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: What is an average time that it takes you to create one of your regular little toy cars?
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: So it takes for the whole process, it's four days.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: I'm not touching them the whole four days because of the glue process.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: So like the paint has to fit, the lacquer has to fit and so does the glue because I want it to be completely safe for the kids.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: And right, so it's, by the time it starts out as either like a two by four or one by four, whatever piece of wood it is, it takes about four days until it gets into the box.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: And then on to the film.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, they take a little while.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Some take longer.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: There's, for instance, Archie the semi.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: He's multiple pieces.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: He's 14 inches long, so he takes the whole solid four days.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: And let me think.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: There's Louise and Nelson.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: Nelson's still a race car, and Louise is a bug.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: They don't take as long because their blue time doesn't take that long to dry.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: So, yeah.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: Some take longer, some don't, but most of the time it takes about four days until they're in the box.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, goodness.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Now, that's quite something.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was just curious how long that took.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Now, when you mention a box, is that your shipping box that you do?
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Do you ship them in a special kind of box then to each child as they order them?
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Well, yes.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: other than the cardboard box, there's a special box.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: So it looks like any toy that you would get off the shelf at, say, Toys R Us or just anywhere or Target.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: So it has its own individual box because I'm also in stores in Washington and Oregon.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, girl.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: So when you open them, they look like an actual product.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: They do.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Borderline don't look handmade.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Even though it says they are, I can guarantee they're handmade.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: And each of them have their individual box.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: They have little cards in there that say this person built it.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: And most of the time it's me.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: During Christmas time, I have to get help.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: And all the toys are completely numbered.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: So it tells me like, okay, this is the year this toy was built.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: And this is what number was on the line.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: So all of them are numbered and registers of who made what.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: So that also says it's handmade as well.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: That is incredible.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: You have a very good tracking then of the toys and when they were made and all of that.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Wow, I'm impressed.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 25:40UNKNOWN: Thank you.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Well, Sue, this interview has just sped by.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just feel like I've been filled with a wealth of knowledge on these little toys.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: This is just incredible, and your comics and everything.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: I have to ask you, what are some final thoughts you would like to leave with our listeners today?
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Well...
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Anything is possible.

- 26:22SPEAKER_01: those are beautiful thoughts.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: I just love that.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Just ask God for some direction and he will show you your given talents.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, how beautiful, Sue.
