Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Eight things to ask yourself every day, or in the
- 0:15Speaker 1: morning or whenever in the day. So, like I said earlier,
- 0:19Speaker 1: the point of this episode is to try and make
- 0:21Speaker 1: each day feel like a step in the direction that
- 0:23Speaker 1: you want to head in. It's a way of feeling
- 0:25Speaker 1: on purpose, on task, happier, freer. Sometimes we get caught up,
- 0:30Speaker 1: like so caught up with all the peripheral things that
- 0:33Speaker 1: we have to do and our to do list and
- 0:35Speaker 1: getting everything done and making sure that we're kind of
- 0:37Speaker 1: playing catch up all the time. And I mean, we
- 0:39Speaker 1: all get into that place all the time, but some
- 0:41Speaker 1: people experience this every single day and we get so
- 0:43Speaker 1: caught up in it that that's when we turn into
- 0:45Speaker 1: those people that count down for the weekend and can't
- 0:50Speaker 1: wait for the weekend to start. And it's this like
- 0:53Speaker 1: wishing away the week. You shouldn't have to wish days away,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and certainly not five days out of that is not
- 1:01Speaker 1: an enjoyable life. That's a fucked ratio. If you are
- 1:04Speaker 1: wishing away five out of seven days of your life,
- 1:08Speaker 1: wishing away time, which is the most precious thing that
- 1:11Speaker 1: you have. You cannot fucking buy, borrow, or steal that shit.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So you better fucking enjoy as much of it as possible.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And if you are someone that wishes it away, then
- 1:20Speaker 1: this is a big warning flag that shit needs to
- 1:23Speaker 1: change in your life fast. Because if you're not going
- 1:26Speaker 1: to change it now, when are you're going to change it?
- 1:28Speaker 1: It has to change. So that's the kind of zone
- 1:31Speaker 1: I want to get you into, not just when you
- 1:34Speaker 1: listen to this episode, but that's kind of the thought
- 1:37Speaker 1: process behind when you ask yourself these questions. Now, if
- 1:41Speaker 1: you really like this episode, what I would recommend you
- 1:44Speaker 1: do is write the questions down, have them on a
- 1:47Speaker 1: piece of paper by your bed, and beautiful note paper
- 1:50Speaker 1: starting silver, twinkly fucking pen ah, make it look pretty
- 1:56Speaker 1: a shit, and then put it on your bedside table
- 2:00Speaker 1: and read it every morning with intention. I don't want
- 2:03Speaker 1: you to grab it and just scan through it and
- 2:05Speaker 1: then toss it off. No no, no no, You grab it.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You sit and you read it, and you think and
- 2:11Speaker 1: process each question every day. Okay, let's get straight into it.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Eight questions to ask yourself every morning. Number one, what
- 2:20Speaker 1: would it take for me to feel fulfilled today? Now
- 2:24Speaker 1: this is really important because this does not have to
- 2:26Speaker 1: link with your sense of purpose. So often people struggle
- 2:30Speaker 1: with this idea that they need to find their sense
- 2:32Speaker 1: of purpose. In reality, your actual purpose in a nutshell
- 2:35Speaker 1: should be to be happy, right because when you're happy,
- 2:37Speaker 1: then you kind of are having an infectious energy, an
- 2:40Speaker 1: infectious energy. It's more likely that people will have a
- 2:44Speaker 1: pleasant interaction when you're happy, and that kind of bleeds
- 2:47Speaker 1: on and bleeds on and bleeds on. Imagine what the
- 2:49Speaker 1: world would be like if everybody, if everybody's aim was
- 2:52Speaker 1: to be happy, to be at peace and be happy. Okay,
- 2:55Speaker 1: So put this idea of this greater purpose aside. You
- 2:58Speaker 1: don't have to know what that is. You want to
- 3:01Speaker 1: think about what would make me feel fulfilled? Okay? This
- 3:06Speaker 1: makes you ask yourself what you need. It makes you
- 3:10Speaker 1: ask your body, what is it that I need? Do
- 3:13Speaker 1: I need to be alone for a little bit today?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Am I craving some alone time? Or is there something
- 3:19Speaker 1: on the back of my mind that I've been meaning
- 3:21Speaker 1: to do but I just keep putting it off because
- 3:22Speaker 1: it's just not the right time. Or do I need
- 3:26Speaker 1: to call my grandmother and just have a talk to her?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Like Sometimes it's just those little moments in the day
- 3:34Speaker 1: that you might normally take for granted, but in reality
- 3:37Speaker 1: that's kind of what really filled your cup up. You know, Like, personally,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I would fucking love to be in a position where
- 3:43Speaker 1: I could say, wow, I really want to call my
- 3:45Speaker 1: grandmother today, but all my grandparents have gone. So it's
- 3:49Speaker 1: this idea of like, what are the little things in
- 3:51Speaker 1: my day that would make me feel like, oh that
- 3:54Speaker 1: is precious. I felt so good doing that. Or if
- 3:57Speaker 1: you don't want to be emotional and and you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: have this connection with people, if that's not what you're needing.
- 4:03Speaker 1: What if it's like, can I just finish this fucking
- 4:06Speaker 1: tax return? And I know it's you know, if I've
- 4:08Speaker 1: got thirty minutes left on it or one hour left
- 4:10Speaker 1: on it. Instead of watching that series that I really
- 4:12Speaker 1: want to watch, I'm going to finish this tax return,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and yes it's fucking boring, but I'm going to sit
- 4:18Speaker 1: in bed being like, oh, what a weight off my shoulders.
- 4:21Speaker 1: A cat didn't get that downtime watching the show I wanted,
- 4:23Speaker 1: But I finally finished my tax return. You know, So
- 4:27Speaker 1: it could be big, it could be small. It could
- 4:30Speaker 1: be just the most basic thing. It could be you
- 4:33Speaker 1: cleaning out one section of your wardrobe. It the most
- 4:38Speaker 1: important thing here is don't make it something big in
- 4:41Speaker 1: your head, because it completely defeats the purpose of this question.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You have to make it something that's all the little
- 4:47Speaker 1: things that add up are what make your life worth
- 4:51Speaker 1: enjoying and worth living. Okay, And all those little things
- 4:54Speaker 1: are what then adds up to these things that appear
- 4:57Speaker 1: so big and appearce so like, oh my god, they've
- 4:58Speaker 1: achieved so much. Can guarantee you it's just all the
- 5:01Speaker 1: little things that have added up to make it look
- 5:03Speaker 1: like a big thing. So don't get ahead of yourself.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Don't make this too complicated. Just one thing that will
- 5:09Speaker 1: make you feel fulfilled. Okay, simple, But ask yourself that
- 5:12Speaker 1: at the start of the day. And it's going to
- 5:14Speaker 1: be different every single day, or likely is going to
- 5:17Speaker 1: be different every single day. Number two, What is something
- 5:21Speaker 1: I can do to ease the stress for me tomorrow
- 5:25Speaker 1: or for the me if tomorrow like for the future
- 5:27Speaker 1: you what can you do? And again think small? Think small?
- 5:32Speaker 1: Can you just pay a bill? It's that three minute
- 5:35Speaker 1: task where you can pay a bill online. Will that
- 5:37Speaker 1: make your tomorrow? It's just going to lighten the load
- 5:40Speaker 1: of your shit to do the next day. It's one
- 5:42Speaker 1: little task that you can do now that you don't
- 5:43Speaker 1: have to do tomorrow. Can you pack your lunch? Can
- 5:46Speaker 1: you get your outfit ready so you feel you know,
- 5:48Speaker 1: sometimes you're rushing around in the morning and then you
- 5:50Speaker 1: know you barely barely have got your shit together, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: then you're out the door on your way to work.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be nice to have a morning where you've
- 5:58Speaker 1: pretty much got everything ready for what you're going to
- 6:00Speaker 1: have for breakfast and have it in the fridge or whatever.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You've got your outfit ready, You've got you know, everything
- 6:05Speaker 1: ready to go, and then you think, I can now
- 6:09Speaker 1: spend ten extra minutes maybe meditating, or what if you
- 6:12Speaker 1: were to wake up and just read a chapter of
- 6:15Speaker 1: your favorite book because you've allowed that the day before,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you set yourself up that you could have that little
- 6:21Speaker 1: wind that you had less stress in the morning. What's
- 6:23Speaker 1: something you could do? Make it tiny? It could be
- 6:26Speaker 1: something like maybe you struggle to take your vitamins because
- 6:29Speaker 1: you always forget put your little vitamins in a little
- 6:31Speaker 1: container and put it right there. That's something that you've done.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So then at the end of the day you're like,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I took my vitamins it's a small win and I
- 6:38Speaker 1: feel great about it. You make it as simple as
- 6:40Speaker 1: you want to make it. But one task that you
- 6:42Speaker 1: can do today that eases the load for tomorrow. A
- 6:46Speaker 1: huge one is making an unpleasant phone call if you've
- 6:49Speaker 1: been needing to make a phone call or needing to
- 6:51Speaker 1: book something in and it's a bit of a saga.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Those are the ones that are really good to ease
- 6:56Speaker 1: the load for you of tomorrow. But it depends what
- 6:59Speaker 1: kind of person than you are, and kind of take
- 7:01Speaker 1: a look at what I use someone that struggles with
- 7:03Speaker 1: time management. If you're a time management person, then doing
- 7:06Speaker 1: small tasks the evening before is going to set yourself
- 7:09Speaker 1: up to feel more organized the next day. Okay, next
- 7:35Speaker 1: number three, Who is someone I am grateful for having
- 7:40Speaker 1: in my life? And then throughout the day you were
- 7:44Speaker 1: going to choose a way to connect with them. It
- 7:47Speaker 1: could be blatantly sending them a message saying thank you
- 7:50Speaker 1: so much for being in my life. You don't know
- 7:53Speaker 1: the difference that you make to me. It could be
- 7:54Speaker 1: a phone call. It could be sending them a funny
- 7:59Speaker 1: anecdote that you guys have together. It could be sending
- 8:02Speaker 1: them a whatever, whatever it is, But find a way,
- 8:04Speaker 1: whether it be time consuming or whether it take you
- 8:07Speaker 1: thirty seconds, find a way to let that person know
- 8:10Speaker 1: that you are grateful for having them in your life. Simple.
- 8:15Speaker 1: But the feel good, the rush of feel good neurotransmitters
- 8:21Speaker 1: that you feel when you extend you know, your love
- 8:25Speaker 1: to somebody else, And when you extend the warmth and
- 8:27Speaker 1: affection and tell them how you feel, you then feel good.
- 8:30Speaker 1: So even if you don't give a fuck, do it
- 8:32Speaker 1: for selfish purposes. Do it for you. Tell someone how
- 8:34Speaker 1: you feel about them. Tell someone that you're grateful, just
- 8:37Speaker 1: to make you feel good. Okay, I mean ideally because
- 8:40Speaker 1: you actually want to make their day. But whatever. Number four,
- 8:44Speaker 1: What if anything right now is pulling me away from
- 8:49Speaker 1: my greater purpose? Now this is where you kind of
- 8:52Speaker 1: this is where you are looking at like the bigger
- 8:53Speaker 1: picture thing, And ask yourself, is that a person, a job,
- 9:00Speaker 1: a life situation that is pulling me away from that? Now?
- 9:04Speaker 1: You might be somebody that's fully on course to what
- 9:07Speaker 1: you're doing. There's nothing getting in the way. Fantastic, you
- 9:10Speaker 1: can totally bypass this question. But for a lot of
- 9:12Speaker 1: people that is not the case. So you might be
- 9:15Speaker 1: thinking Okay, this is the life that I'm working towards.
- 9:18Speaker 1: This is what I want to have, This is where
- 9:20Speaker 1: I want to live, this is what I want to
- 9:22Speaker 1: feel every single day. So you've got an idea of
- 9:24Speaker 1: what you want. Okay, most of us do, or some
- 9:27Speaker 1: of us do, but you're not there right now supposedly. Okay,
- 9:32Speaker 1: So you now have to identify what's something that I
- 9:35Speaker 1: can actually pinpoint that is kind of a block. Am
- 9:39Speaker 1: I in a relationship that I know is not going
- 9:42Speaker 1: to lead me into the future. You don't have to
- 9:45Speaker 1: end it today, but maybe identify it and can that
- 9:48Speaker 1: relationship be mended or does it have to end? Is
- 9:52Speaker 1: it the job that I'm in? Am I only choosing
- 9:56Speaker 1: to stay in this job because I'm terrified of starting
- 10:00Speaker 1: something new? Because I understand that a lot of people
- 10:02Speaker 1: might not want to leave a job because there aren't
- 10:04Speaker 1: any other options for the time being. That's a different
- 10:07Speaker 1: story altogether. But I know, and I know personally a
- 10:11Speaker 1: lot of people that have options, that have offers to
- 10:15Speaker 1: go somewhere else where. Okay, it's scarier, Okay, you're putting
- 10:19Speaker 1: yourself out there, you're taking a leap, You're really having
- 10:21Speaker 1: to grow it's not easy, but the experience could be great.
- 10:25Speaker 1: But they think, why would I leave a place where
- 10:28Speaker 1: I'm just so comfortable? You know? So taking that leap
- 10:31Speaker 1: of comfort to the life that you want is kind
- 10:34Speaker 1: of you kind of at a crossroads in your life
- 10:36Speaker 1: when you get there a life situation. Are you living
- 10:39Speaker 1: with people that do your head in and you just
- 10:42Speaker 1: literally cannot find the peace that you want to find,
- 10:44Speaker 1: And you're not living in an environment where you feel
- 10:47Speaker 1: calm and peaceful because maybe your family is doing your
- 10:51Speaker 1: head in or maybe you have toxic housemates that you
- 10:54Speaker 1: can't stand. Are you currently dealing with an insurance claim
- 10:59Speaker 1: that is absolutely, you know, ruining every free moment that
- 11:03Speaker 1: you have because you're trying to get that thing processed.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Are you like me and you're doing your bass statement
- 11:09Speaker 1: and literally after I finished recording this, I'm going to
- 11:11Speaker 1: fucking do my bas statements. I'm not doing it over
- 11:13Speaker 1: the weekend. See this is me doing my weekend self
- 11:15Speaker 1: a favor. I'm doing my bass now. But that is
- 11:18Speaker 1: what you have to ask yourself what is pulling you
- 11:21Speaker 1: away from your purpose? Then once you identify, ask yourself,
- 11:25Speaker 1: is this a permanent quote unquote, nothing's permanent in life.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But is it more of a long term, permanent thing
- 11:31Speaker 1: or is it a one off acute stressor that's gonna
- 11:33Speaker 1: end soon? One of acute stress of being what I
- 11:36Speaker 1: just mentioned, insurance claims, doing your bass, doing that kind
- 11:38Speaker 1: of stuff, you know that there's a deadline and it's
- 11:41Speaker 1: got to be done by then, an essay that you
- 11:43Speaker 1: might be working on, preparing for a job, interview, that
- 11:47Speaker 1: kind of stuff for more acute stresses. And yeah, they're
- 11:49Speaker 1: annoying and they're pulling you away from what you're doing,
- 11:52Speaker 1: but you know it's short term, so I wouldn't be
- 11:53Speaker 1: too fussed about it as far as you know, changing
- 11:57Speaker 1: it or ending it. The one you want to look
- 11:59Speaker 1: at is more so is this a permanent thing? As
- 12:02Speaker 1: in am I acting like this is a permanent thing?
- 12:06Speaker 1: As far as relationships, jobs, where you live, that kind
- 12:09Speaker 1: of thing. And that's kind of what you want to
- 12:11Speaker 1: be addressing. And I'm not saying you've got to fuck
- 12:13Speaker 1: and you know, root the band and end it today,
- 12:16Speaker 1: but it's good to start asking yourself these questions and
- 12:18Speaker 1: ask yourself, why is it that they're pulling me away?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Is it because I'm with someone that's super super jealous
- 12:24Speaker 1: of me being social, But the job that I want
- 12:27Speaker 1: to have entails me really being social and networking and
- 12:30Speaker 1: being out there. This is an issue that we need
- 12:33Speaker 1: to fix. That kind of thing. It's always good to
- 12:35Speaker 1: identify that ha
