Speaker 5: going on in the news a little bit later. Also,
• 1:43
Speaker 5: it is Regatta week in Charleston. Charleston Mayor Amy Schuler,
• 1:47
Speaker 5: A good one joins us right down studio. Good morning,
• 1:49
Speaker 5: welcome to the show.
• 1:50
Speaker 3: Good morning, I'm ready.
• 1:52
Speaker 5: Is there something going on this week?
• 1:53
  Speaker 3: I'm ready.
• 1:54
Speaker 5: There's something some little little boat parade.
• 1:56
Speaker 4: Or something going on.
• 1:56
Speaker 3: The stretching. We've been stretching, hydrating.
• 2:00
Speaker 5: And getting ready, getting ready. I got to ask you
• 2:02
Speaker 5: what's the deal with the friendship bracelet?
• 2:04
  Speaker 6: Here?
• 2:04
Speaker 3: Heyah, thank you, I'm so glad.
• 2:06
Speaker 7: Well, first of all, it says, I don't know if
• 2:08
Speaker 7: you can see it from there, it says Regatta on it.
• 2:12
Speaker 7: So last year I had we started an entrepreneurs a
• 2:16
Speaker 7: youth slash kids entrepreneur market of kids around the area
• 2:23
Speaker 7: who were starting businesses making friendship bracelets, bath bombs, soaps,
• 2:29
Speaker 7: ear rings, and so last year I went to one
• 2:33
Speaker 7: of the vendors and she's nine, and I said, I
• 2:37
Speaker 7: love those, and I bought one.
• 2:40
Speaker 3: And then this sheear so many kids saw me out
• 2:44
Speaker 3: and said, oh, can I have one? Can I have one?
• 2:46
Speaker 7: Because I bought a couple kept giving them away. And
• 2:49
Speaker 7: so this year I pre ordered one hundred, paid for
• 2:54
Speaker 7: out of my own pocket, happy to support young entrepreneurs,
• 2:58
Speaker 7: one hundred Regatta French bracelets, and I'm going to give
• 3:01
Speaker 7: away twenty five every day. So if you see me
• 3:05
Speaker 7: as you can ask for one for you. I'm not
• 3:07
Speaker 7: me of course. Kids, if you're under the age you're
• 3:10
Speaker 7: under the age of eighteen really sixteen, you can ask
• 3:13
Speaker 7: me for one and I'll give you one. I mean
• 3:15
Speaker 7: as they will supplies last. Everyone while supplies last.
• 3:19
Speaker 3: I see TJ medows me eyeball, he wants one.
• 3:22
Speaker 7: Wait a second, you can't reserve them you have to
• 3:25
Speaker 7: see me at Regatta. You have to physically see me,
• 3:27
Speaker 7: and I will have them on my on my wrists.
• 3:30
Speaker 5: All right, So what's new at Regatta this year? We're
• 3:32
Speaker 5: going to be talking a lot about Regatta. Of course.
• 3:34
Speaker 5: I think you're going to be on talk Line today.
• 3:37
Speaker 5: You're also going to be the mayor of Monday.
• 3:39
Speaker 3: I've been here for an hour and a half and
• 3:42
  Speaker 3: then you're.
• 3:42
Speaker 5: Coming back up with the full We've got to show
• 3:44
Speaker 5: with the with the Amy Breedlove, who's going to be
• 3:46
Speaker 5: co hosting. We're going to be hosting for me on Thursday.
• 3:48
Speaker 5: I'll be off on Thursday, but so we've got plenty
• 3:52
Speaker 5: of time to get stuff in. But I do want
• 3:53
Speaker 5: to ask you what's new?
• 3:54
  Speaker 3: Thank you?
• 3:55
Speaker 7: There's two things that are new. I'll go I'll go
• 3:57
Speaker 7: forward before I go backwards. So we have a group
• 4:00
Speaker 7: coming called Fluidity, And the only way I can describe
• 4:04
Speaker 7: them is that they're an aerial circus, so laggy type
• 4:08
  Speaker 7: of thing.
• 4:08
Speaker 3: They fly in the air.
• 4:09
Speaker 7: They're on these ribbons and strings and they do flips
• 4:11
Speaker 7: and turns and that will be starting on Friday at
• 4:16
Speaker 7: City Center at Slack Plaza. Very very cool. They're doing workshops.
• 4:20
Speaker 7: They start at one thirty. They're also going to be
• 4:22
Speaker 7: in the funeral parade, so check Charleston Regatta dot com
• 4:26
Speaker 7: for the latest schedule in the details.
• 4:28
  Speaker 3: So that's new.
• 4:29
Speaker 7: The other thing that's new, and it's really cool. You know,
• 4:31
Speaker 7: when you think about the regatta, you go back in
• 4:33
Speaker 7: your brain and think about, oh, this is what I love,
• 4:35
Speaker 7: this is what I love, and the pieces of a
• 4:38
Speaker 7: history that you've taken from there, well, it is so interesting.
• 4:40
Speaker 7: When I became mayor seven years ago, when I brought
• 4:43
Speaker 7: the regatta back four years ago, people started sending me
• 4:46
Speaker 7: things just hey, I had this hand painted basket purse
• 4:51
Speaker 7: that had sternwheelers, Stern Wheelers hand painted all over it,
• 4:55
Speaker 7: and I want you to have it since you brought
• 4:57
Speaker 7: back with regatta. Well, I can't take gifts, so I
• 4:59
Speaker 7: started a collection of all of old regatta memorabilia. So
• 5:04
Speaker 7: we are having a regatta through the year's exhibit at
• 5:08
Speaker 7: the four point Share ten. It starts noon on Thursday.
• 5:11
Speaker 7: Every day you can go through the exhibit. So people
• 5:14
Speaker 7: have sent me handstitched wrap skirts. I mean, ladies, think
• 5:18
Speaker 7: of the seventies, right, didn't everybody have you know, needle
• 5:21
Speaker 7: point you know those great rap skirts with a twisty
• 5:24
Speaker 7: tie around the top, and posters and r Sea bottles
• 5:28
Speaker 7: and Doctor Pepper when they sponsored, and hats and shirts
• 5:31
Speaker 7: and pins and everything that you can think of from
• 5:33
Speaker 7: the Charleston Sturno Regatta.
• 5:34
  Speaker 3: That is new.
• 5:36
Speaker 7: But what is not new is the things that we
• 5:39
Speaker 7: love about the regatta. My favorite you know this, you
• 5:42
Speaker 7: know it's my favorite of funeral parade. I dig a parade.
• 5:45
Speaker 7: I love the funeral parade. I always have my costume
• 5:49
Speaker 7: this year. Some of our youth who are interning in
• 5:53
Speaker 7: our art department this year helped me.
• 5:55
Speaker 3: Put it together this year. And I took a picture.
• 5:58
Speaker 7: By the way, the funeral prede is sponsored by Marti
• 6:00
Speaker 7: Gras Casino and we love them there.
• 6:03
Speaker 3: They do they do a great, great job.
• 6:06
Speaker 7: And so they went with that theme and I took
• 6:09
Speaker 7: a picture of myself in part of my costume and
• 6:11
Speaker 7: my sister to my sister, and my sister responded, you
• 6:15
Speaker 7: kind of look like Elton John's sister. Lots of lots
• 6:20
Speaker 7: of big glasses, lots of feathers. Some fired up about it.
• 6:23
  Speaker 3: I'm really fired.
• 6:24
Speaker 5: So you're talking about like the early to mid seventies
• 6:26
Speaker 5: Elton John right with.
• 6:28
Speaker 7: Yeah, lots of beads, lots of feathers, lots of fun,
• 6:31
Speaker 7: lots of tinted shaded sunglasses. I'll be passing away those
• 6:35
Speaker 7: as well. I bought me personally, I bought a whole
• 6:38
Speaker 7: bunch because I love this is what I love about
• 6:40
  Speaker 7: the Charleston Storm.
• 6:41
Speaker 3: Obgot and we brought it back.
• 6:43
Speaker 7: And when I was running how many seven years ago,
• 6:46
Speaker 7: people said I want you to do this, this, this,
• 6:49
Speaker 7: you know, some were different responses of what they wanted
• 6:51
Speaker 7: to focus on, without question, without fail, bring.
• 6:53
Speaker 3: Back the regatta period.
• 6:54
Speaker 7: It was always because people love the Charleston Storm, Rover good.
• 6:59
Speaker 7: And it's not because of the music. And it's not
• 7:03
Speaker 7: just because of the great food or the carnival or
• 7:04
Speaker 7: the funeral parade or the Winnowdall races or the duck
• 7:07
Speaker 7: you drop. It's because of time spent together. And by
• 7:11
Speaker 7: the way, it's not just that our businesses said we
• 7:15
Speaker 7: need it. We need it, just like our Christmas parade.
• 7:19
Speaker 7: When I wanted to make it in the evening, they
• 7:20
Speaker 7: were like, yes, because it is an economic driver. I
• 7:24
Speaker 7: mean little did Nelson Jones in nineteen seventy one when
• 7:29
Speaker 7: he begged the mayor Mayor Hutchinson at the time, Please
• 7:33
Speaker 7: let's race those boats out there. He's a you know,
• 7:36
Speaker 7: eleven year old kid. Please raise those boats. Wouldn't it
• 7:38
Speaker 7: be fun? That's how it started. By the way, in
• 7:42
Speaker 7: the nineteen seventy or early nineteen seventy seventy one, did
• 7:46
Speaker 7: he know that it would grow to a two day
• 7:48
Speaker 7: festival then to what it is today. I mean, we
• 7:52
Speaker 7: bring in, we're getting ready to host one of the
• 7:55
Speaker 7: largest events in the Tri State area, largest in the state,
• 7:57
Speaker 7: a quarter of a million people and thirty eight plus
• 8:01
Speaker 7: million dollar economic impact. What does economic impact mean? When
• 8:05
Speaker 7: people hear this, they say, what are you going to
• 8:07
Speaker 7: do with the thirty eight million? Aiming and not mine?
• 8:10
Speaker 7: I don't get the city doesn't get thirty eight million, Dave,
• 8:13
Speaker 7: it is. And you know this through your interviews and
• 8:16
Speaker 7: through your life and government and tour and your knowledge
• 8:20
Speaker 7: of tourism. It goes to exactly what a mayor wants
• 8:24
Speaker 7: the money to go to small businesses, hotels, restaurants, shops, bars,
• 8:30
Speaker 7: and all of our vendors who are there, who are
• 8:34
Speaker 7: mostly local folks. So that's where I want that money
• 8:37
Speaker 7: to go, and that's where it does. And so a
• 8:39
Speaker 7: lot of history, a lot of news stuff, a lot
• 8:41
Speaker 7: of old stuff. But what is the same as great
• 8:44
Speaker 7: connection with people doing great things.
• 8:47
Speaker 5: And of course you know you could focus do a
• 8:49
Speaker 5: great job on social media and on the websites whatever.
• 8:52
Speaker 5: So I mean, we're not going to go and list
• 8:54
Speaker 5: everything that's going on. Our best thing you can do
• 8:56
Speaker 5: is probably just go, you know and check it out
• 8:59
  Speaker 5: seeing see exact.
• 9:00
Speaker 7: Yeah, Charleston, Charleston regatta dot com or you know this, Dave.
• 9:03
Speaker 7: Anybody can call me three four eight eight one seven
• 9:06
Speaker 7: four three eight one seven four I will personally run
• 9:09
Speaker 7: down the list. You know, Josh Pantry and Carly Pierce
• 9:11
Speaker 7: is on Thursday. It's Big Country Night.
• 9:13
  Speaker 3: My favorite.
• 9:14
Speaker 7: Sorry, And you're not supposed to have favorites, like picking children,
• 9:17
Speaker 7: You're not supposed to have favorites. Casey and the Sunshine Band.
• 9:20
Speaker 7: My sister and I, with our satin jackets in our basement,
• 9:24
Speaker 7: used to make up routines and dances to Casey and
• 9:28
Speaker 7: the Sunshine dance. This is last year, r this was
• 9:30
Speaker 7: last year, right, Listen. I'm at this time in my life.
• 9:33
Speaker 7: I would totally do it right now. Come up with
• 9:35
Speaker 7: a routine with my sister. The Velvet Brothers are opening
• 9:38
Speaker 7: for Casey and the Sunshine ban on Friday. Shalem who's
• 9:42
Speaker 7: so cool local artists, He's wonderful. And Busta Rhymes, who
• 9:46
Speaker 7: I keep calling mister mister Busta in the office and
• 9:50
Speaker 7: the young people in the office, You're like, may I
• 9:52
Speaker 7: please don't do that?
• 9:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, please don't do don't do that.
• 9:54
Speaker 7: And then Sunday of the Dell really cool West Virginia Band,
• 9:57
Speaker 7: and then Jefferson Starship on Sunday.
• 9:59
Speaker 5: And I've told the story on the air before about
• 10:02
Speaker 5: Casey in the Sunshine Band. Of course, you know you
• 10:04
Speaker 5: and I are roughly the same age. I have a
• 10:05
Speaker 5: couple of years on you a little bit. But you
• 10:08
Speaker 5: know they were all the rage when we were in
• 10:10
Speaker 5: grade school, and a couple of years ago I saw
• 10:14
Speaker 5: them in concert. It was more my wife wanted to
• 10:16
Speaker 5: go than me, but but I but I went. Uh
• 10:20
Speaker 5: And I have to say, even though I'm not I'm
• 10:22
Speaker 5: not a disco guy, I will say this, that's one
• 10:26
Speaker 5: of the best five concerts I ever saw in my life.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: They're just so entertaining.
• 10:29
Speaker 5: They played for two and a half hours, and Casey's
• 10:33
Speaker 5: not young Harry Win, Casey is in his early seventies.
• 10:36
Speaker 5: That's right, doesn't quite look like he did them. But
• 10:38
Speaker 5: he's also not on drugs anymore.
• 10:40
Speaker 3: And I can't fit in my satin jacket I used to.
• 10:43
Speaker 5: But it's one of the most entertaining shows I ever saw.
• 10:45
Speaker 5: I mean, if you want to go see a big
• 10:47
Speaker 5: spectacle come Friday night with all the dancer I mean,
• 10:51
Speaker 5: even without Casey, I mean everybody, the dancing, and the
• 10:54
Speaker 5: and the and and all different kinds of me. They
• 10:56
Speaker 5: did everything. In addition to all their hits, which are
• 10:58
Speaker 5: about twenty, they also did prints, they did Motown a
• 11:03
Speaker 5: little bit. It's one of the best concerts you will
• 11:05
Speaker 5: ever see, whether you like the music or not. And
• 11:07
Speaker 5: can we forget Casey in the Sunshine band is an
• 11:10
Speaker 5: actual band. Unliked a lot of the disco music that
• 11:12
Speaker 5: we manufactured. They're an actual kick butt band. I mean,
• 11:16
Speaker 5: they are awesome. So do you all The music is great,
• 11:19
Speaker 5: do yourself a favor to goo and go check out
• 11:22
Speaker 5: Casey in the Sunshine.
• 11:23
Speaker 7: I'm really excited about it, really excited about it. And
• 11:26
Speaker 7: Mother and Nature. While she has turned up the heat, Dave,
• 11:29
Speaker 7: humidity is going to be down. The sun's going to
• 11:31
Speaker 7: be out, so please hydrate. Lots of sunscreen, lots of sunscreen,
• 11:34
Speaker 7: lots of sunscreen. It's going to be a beautiful week, gorgeous,
• 11:38
Speaker 7: gorgeous week. And you know one thing that the Charleston
• 11:40
Speaker 7: stern Will Regatta really doesn't get a lot of attention
• 11:44
Speaker 7: or talk about, but we have watched the crowd grow
• 11:47
Speaker 7: every single year. Or the reason why the Charleston Sternwell
• 11:50
Speaker 7: Regatta started the boat races, so Stern wheelers and the
• 11:55
Speaker 7: boats are absolutely just beautiful, beautiful.
• 12:00
  Speaker 3: And beautiful ships.
• 12:01
Speaker 7: Just look at and how they were built and why
• 12:03
Speaker 7: they were built and the history behind them. We have
• 12:06
Speaker 7: a boat here that al Capone played on, you know,
• 12:09
Speaker 7: cards in the middle of the night, and we've lots
• 12:12
Speaker 7: of great history around it. And they're sweet people who
• 12:15
Speaker 7: own and rebuild and rehab these boats until you get
• 12:18
  Speaker 7: them racing.
• 12:19
Speaker 3: Then they'll eat your faces off. They become the most
• 12:22
Speaker 3: competitive people you've ever been around in your life. And
• 12:26
  Speaker 3: it's so fun.
• 12:27
Speaker 7: And that's on Sunday at three o'clock and the crowd
• 12:31
Speaker 7: has grown monumentally because it's fun and you know everything
• 12:36
Speaker 7: where it's a click of a button and you look
• 12:38
Speaker 7: down and you know I'm a mother of a twenty
• 12:40
Speaker 7: one year old and twenty three year old. It's, you know,
• 12:42
Speaker 7: instant gratification I watch it. There is something so incredibly
• 12:46
Speaker 7: cool of watching these ginormous Stern wheelers race and a
• 12:52
Speaker 7: dead sprint live in action.
• 12:54
Speaker 3: It's just it's a very, very, very good time.
• 12:56
Speaker 7: And we have commentators who are there talking about the
• 12:59
Speaker 7: history of the Stern wheels, who owns them, how much
• 13:03
Speaker 7: it takes to rehab them, and it's just it's going
• 13:05
Speaker 7: to be really fun.
• 13:06
Speaker 5: Talking again with Charles Maror, Amy Shulterer, good one with
• 13:08
Speaker 5: Dave aland showing five Any Live is brought to you

• 13:16
Speaker 5: You've got a couple of texts here for you before
• 13:18
Speaker 5: we let you go, and then you're gonna be back
• 13:19
Speaker 5: on talk Line and you're the Mayor Monday segment. And
• 13:22
Speaker 5: you said you've heard the Mayor Monday. Yeah, okay, So
• 13:24
Speaker 5: have you never been on your extended mayor mind? Well,
• 13:28
Speaker 5: so you know, one of the questions is always the
• 13:32
Speaker 5: question I ask every mayor every week. So you have
• 13:34
Speaker 5: told now toil about two twenty to get prepared for
• 13:37
Speaker 5: it is if you come to Charleston, here's the one
• 13:41
Speaker 5: thing you have to do. You have to see, you
• 13:43
Speaker 5: have to experience. So that's your question, all right, all right?
• 13:46
Speaker 5: Text said about your bracelet? Are they girls bracelets?
• 13:50
Speaker 7: I don't know what that means. It's for anybody bracelet.
• 13:52
Speaker 7: But you just have to be under the age of eighteen.
• 13:54
Speaker 7: I really say sixteen, but I can't do that if
• 13:56
Speaker 7: you're a young person. Lots of different I will say that,
• 14:00
Speaker 7: lots of different colors, lots of different colors just dismounted.
• 14:03
Speaker 7: I mean she made me with her, her counterpart, her colleague,
• 14:08
Speaker 7: one hundred of them, one hundred, and she made a
• 14:12
Speaker 7: pretty penny off of me, me personally, not the city,
• 14:16
  Speaker 7: me personally.

Speaker 5: if the city had video copies of the regard of parades,
• 17:51
Speaker 5: specifically eighty five to ninety and I suggested to go

Speaker 5: Welcome to the show, Good morning, thanks for having us.
• 18:18
Speaker 5: I've got an issue with your microphone. I don't know

Speaker 5: I'm going to have you, sir, go to this microphone.

• 18:32
Speaker 5: I'm I allow yourself to your guest to introduce yourself.
• 18:34
Speaker 6: Go ahead, good morning. I'm Alicia Bossy with the Mountaineer
• 18:37
  Speaker 6: Food Bank, and.
• 18:38
Speaker 11: I'm Steve Hastings with the law firm of Hendrickson and
• 18:40
Speaker 11: Long here in Charleston.
• 18:41
Speaker 5: All right, we appreciate you both being here and talk
• 18:45
Speaker 5: about your law firm's involvement with Mountaineer Food Bank.
• 18:49
Speaker 11: Well, I think mainly one of the founding partners, Dave Hendrickson,
• 18:52
Speaker 11: is one of his pet projects, so to speak. Any
• 18:55
Speaker 11: chance he gets an opportunity, he tries to help out
• 18:57
Speaker 11: the food bank. And we've done that a few times
• 18:59
Speaker 11: every years. And I think that with Alsia now and Dave,
• 19:02
Speaker 11: they're working to grow our involvement with that.
• 19:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, and now, I think he was on the show
• 19:06
Speaker 5: a look like a couple of months ago and he
• 19:08
Speaker 5: talked about that. Why do you think it's so important?
• 19:10
Speaker 11: Well, I think you know, when you have a business
• 19:13
Speaker 11: in the community, you have an obligation to give back,
• 19:16
Speaker 11: and anybody that may know Dave knows that he wears
• 19:18
Speaker 11: that on his sleeve. Any chance he gets he can
• 19:20
Speaker 11: contribute back to the community. The firm has been involved
• 19:22
Speaker 11: in a lot of activities over the years, and this
• 19:25
Speaker 11: one is near and dear to our heart.
• 19:26
Speaker 5: And you've got a sort of announcement you wanted to
• 19:29
Speaker 5: make today about that.
• 19:29
Speaker 11: Yeah, So with the Mountain your food Bank, we're starting
• 19:32
  Speaker 11: a food drive this year. I think there's always a
• 19:35
Speaker 11: food drive. Alisia would probably tell you they're always trying
• 19:37
Speaker 11: to raise it. For the regard of this week, we
• 19:41
Speaker 11: are the firm will match the first one thousand cans
• 19:44
Speaker 11: delivered to us and also the first thousand dollars. So
• 19:48
Speaker 11: we're going to be setting up outside our office.
• 19:50
Speaker 5: I think Alicia has.
• 19:51
Speaker 11: All the details on that, but you can bring stuff
• 19:55
Speaker 11: to our office anytime this week. Our office is at
• 19:56
Speaker 11: two fourteen Capitol Street, right beside Adelphia, So if you're
• 19:59
Speaker 11: looking Adelphia, we're the building to the right right. Alicia,
• 20:02
Speaker 11: do you want to tell about the food drivers out?
• 20:05
  Speaker 12: Sure?
• 20:05
Speaker 6: Yes, So we were really excited about this announcement and
• 20:08
Speaker 6: excited to have Hendrickson and Long on board and supporting us.
• 20:12
Speaker 6: We will be set up during regatta on Saturday from
• 20:14
Speaker 6: one to four. We set up right out in front
• 20:16
Speaker 6: of Hendrickson and Long on Capitol Street, so you can
• 20:19
Speaker 6: bring donations. Then we'll have a donation box. We'll have
• 20:22
Speaker 6: a collection box if you want to bring non perishable
• 20:24
Speaker 6: food items. The most needed items are peanut butter, rice beans,
• 20:29
Speaker 6: and beef stew, but we will take anything that.
• 20:31
Speaker 5: You bring that's I mean, and those are kind of
• 20:34
Speaker 5: those non perishable things as you talk about that have
• 20:36
Speaker 5: a little bit longer shelf life. Ye usually usually how
• 20:40
Speaker 5: are things going with Mountain their Food Bank?
• 20:42
Speaker 6: Things are going well, We're busy, you know, with the
• 20:44
Speaker 6: recent flooding up in Ohio County and some of the
• 20:47
Speaker 6: other areas. We've been active in disaster and getting emergency
• 20:50
Speaker 6: food boxes, you know, up to them. We are in
• 20:54
Speaker 6: forty eight of the fifty five counties on the road
• 20:56
Speaker 6: distributing food, getting food to our agency partners. So it's
• 21:00
  Speaker 6: a busy time.
• 21:01
Speaker 5: I think sometimes people when they think of organizations like
• 21:04
Speaker 5: Mountain their Food Bank, they only think of and you
• 21:07
Speaker 5: do a lot of just distribution to the public, but
• 21:09
Speaker 5: they forget how involved you folks are when a disaster
• 21:11
Speaker 5: happens like we saw in southern West Virginia earlier this
• 21:14
Speaker 5: year in the Ohio County and Marion County just a
• 21:17
Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago.
• 21:18
Speaker 6: Yes, we are a part of VOAD and our Rock
• 21:21
Speaker 6: Branch facility is actually shared with the National Guard. So
• 21:25
Speaker 6: that's where we keep a lot of our emergency disaster supplies.
• 21:29
Speaker 6: And so if there'sn't a disaster, we are out there
• 21:32
Speaker 6: getting food and water and supplies out to the folks
• 21:36
  Speaker 6: that need it.
• 21:36
Speaker 5: So you're going to be setting up, as you said
• 21:38
Speaker 5: during the regatta. Yes, and people can bring their items
• 21:41
Speaker 5: in or they can just make cash donations as well.
• 21:43
Speaker 6: Yes, we'll have a donation box. If you don't have cash,
• 21:45
Speaker 6: we have a QR code that you can scan. Additionally,
• 21:49
Speaker 6: if you aren't able to make it out on Saturday,
• 21:51
Speaker 6: like Steve said, you can drop items off to their
• 21:54
Speaker 6: office throughout the week to.
• 21:56
Speaker 5: One of the hours this week I mean with him
• 21:58
Speaker 5: and fourth of July and everything.
• 21:59
Speaker 11: Typical office hours from eight thirty I think until about
• 22:02
Speaker 11: five o'clock. Typically there'll be somebod at the front desk.
• 22:04
Speaker 11: You can drop stuff off all.
• 22:05
Speaker 5: Week, okay, And so that would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
• 22:09
Speaker 5: or you open on Thursday, the day before the fourth.
• 22:11
Speaker 5: Because I know a lot of folks are taken off
• 22:13
  Speaker 5: on Thursday.
• 22:13
Speaker 11: That's why I think we'll probably open at least half
• 22:15
Speaker 11: a day out of I don't know if the powers
• 22:17
Speaker 11: that be have told anybody what the schedule Thursday would be,
• 22:20
Speaker 11: but at least through now.
• 22:21
Speaker 5: Don't you love when companies do that? Yeah, they can't
• 22:24
Speaker 5: they wait until like that afternoon. But I'm sure that
• 22:27
Speaker 5: even if you don't make it here in Regatta, I mean,
• 22:30
Speaker 5: we want to try to get people down there, but
• 22:31
Speaker 5: even if you don't, you'd be willing to accept next
• 22:34
  Speaker 5: week as well.
• 22:34
Speaker 11: I'm sure we'd be willing to accept it at any
• 22:36
Speaker 11: time if someone wants to drop it off at our
• 22:38
Speaker 11: office at like I said, two fourteen Capitol Street, we'll
• 22:40
Speaker 11: make sure it gets to where it needs to go, and.
• 22:42
Speaker 5: It doesn't have to be I mean, you certainly would
• 22:45
Speaker 5: welcome if somebody wants to go to their local big
• 22:47
Speaker 5: box store and come in with you know, giant pilots
• 22:50
Speaker 5: of food, but you'd also be happy with one or
• 22:52
Speaker 5: two cans you know.
• 22:53
Speaker 11: Whatever, We'll take whatever, and we'll pass it along.
• 22:55
Speaker 5: I mean, and generally speaking, West Virginians are very giving
• 22:58
Speaker 5: people when it comes to things like this. I mean,
• 23:00
Speaker 5: we like to help each other out. And this is
• 23:02
Speaker 5: what we don't want to talk about the overall, the
• 23:04
Speaker 5: overall with Mountaineer Food Bank. I mean, it's a wonderful organization,
• 23:08
Speaker 5: but to talk about what a typical I know, the
• 23:11
Speaker 5: disaster aspect of it is one thing, but I want
• 23:14
Speaker 5: to talk about what would you do on a non
• 23:16
Speaker 5: disaster time, just on a daily basis.
• 23:18
Speaker 6: Sure, So, as I mentioned earlier, the Mountaineer Food Bank
• 23:21
Speaker 6: is the largest emergency food provider in West Virginia. There
• 23:24
Speaker 6: are only two food banks in West Virginia. It's Facing
• 23:27
Speaker 6: Hunger that they're based in Huntingson, then the Mountaineer Food
• 23:29
Speaker 6: Bank we're based in gas Away. We are both part
• 23:32
Speaker 6: of the Feeding American network and there are only two
• 23:34
Speaker 6: hundred food banks across the country that are part of
• 23:36
Speaker 6: Feeding America. And then we have four hundred and sixty
• 23:41
Speaker 6: partner agencies. So those are your local food pantries, your
• 23:45
Speaker 6: backpack programs, your soup kitchens. Our job is to source
• 23:48
Speaker 6: the food and then distribute it to the agencies across
• 23:51
Speaker 6: the forty eight counties. In addition to that, we have
• 23:54
Speaker 6: some of our own programs. We have our Veterans Table
• 23:56
Speaker 6: program where we serve about fourteen hundred veterans a month.
• 24:00
Speaker 6: We have our Mobile Pantry program and that you probably
• 24:04
Speaker 6: have seen us out in your communities. That's where we
• 24:06
Speaker 6: take our truck into food desert areas and set it
• 24:10
Speaker 6: up and the neighbors can drive through and get a
• 24:12
Speaker 6: box of non perishable food items along with some theory
• 24:15
Speaker 6: and milk, bread fruit, those types of things. We have
• 24:20
Speaker 6: backpack programs right now, we're doing summer feeding programs to
• 24:24
Speaker 6: help out in We're doing that in Clay County. And
• 24:28
Speaker 6: then we also have an extra Mile program where we
• 24:31
Speaker 6: partner with door Dash in Mercer County to distribute food
• 24:34
Speaker 6: boxes to families that maybe have transportation barriers or can't
• 24:39
Speaker 6: get out. So we work with DoorDash and the county
• 24:42
Speaker 6: Board of Education there, and we also replicate that program
• 24:45
Speaker 6: in Clay County, but we use the bus drivers to
• 24:48
Speaker 6: deliver the food to the neighbors and they do that
• 24:51
Speaker 6: in between their bus routes.
• 24:52
Speaker 5: Tart to folks around in their food bank. The Dave
• 24:54
Speaker 5: Island Show and five eighty Live is presented to depart
• 24:56
Speaker 5: by Generations Physical Therapy, the leading provider of out paid
• 25:00
Speaker 5: physical therapy in the Trio State for nearly thirty years.
• 25:02
Speaker 5: For an appointment three zero four, seven, six zero fifty
• 25:05
Speaker 5: six to sixty, or visit generationspt dot com to find
• 25:08
Speaker 5: the closest location near you. Let's talk about the current
• 25:10
Speaker 5: need in twenty twenty five. You've seen it gone up,
• 25:13
Speaker 5: staying steady. What's the need it has gone up?
• 25:16
Speaker 6: We just received the new data from Feeding America. Of
• 25:19
Speaker 6: course we're always two years behind, but one in six
• 25:22
Speaker 6: adults face food and security in West Virginia and one
• 25:26
Speaker 6: in five children. So if you think about that, you
• 25:28
Speaker 6: walk into a classroom of twenty kids, you know one
• 25:32
Speaker 6: in every five is going to be hungry that day.
• 25:36
Speaker 6: We're looking at about two hundred and fifty thousand West
• 25:38
Speaker 6: Virginians overall that face food in security.
• 25:41
Speaker 5: And when you talk about food insecurity, I mean these
• 25:44
Speaker 5: are and I guess the I guess the definition of
• 25:48
Speaker 5: that would be you don't always know where your next
• 25:50
Speaker 5: meal is coming from. And the thing about the school
• 25:52
Speaker 5: system is, you know, I think that they do a
• 25:54
Speaker 5: great job. But there's so many programs out there that
• 25:59
Speaker 5: try to do what you guys are doing. But you
• 26:01
Speaker 5: guys are just so big you're able to serve more
• 26:02
Speaker 5: people because a lot of times when these kids, when
• 26:05
Speaker 5: that final bell rings, that's it. They don't eat until
• 26:08
Speaker 5: they come back the next morning during school and summer
• 26:11
Speaker 5: is an entirely different set.
• 26:12
Speaker 6: Of problems, that's correct. So food insecurity is not having
• 26:16
Speaker 6: access to food at certain times versus hunger. You know,
• 26:20
Speaker 6: that's a personalized feeling where your belly's growling and you
• 26:23
Speaker 6: can't focus or you can't do anything when you're hungry.
• 26:26
Speaker 6: So we try to address both of those.
• 26:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's you guys are doing great. I mean with
• 26:32
Speaker 5: what you do. How long has the Mountain of Food
• 26:34
Speaker 5: Bank been in existence?
• 26:35
Speaker 6: Give and we were founded in nineteen eighty one, Okay.
• 26:38
Speaker 5: And there are areas of West Virginia here that term
• 26:41
Speaker 5: thrown out there food deserts. But there are areas of
• 26:43
Speaker 5: West Virginia that are that are truly that if you
• 26:46
Speaker 5: don't if you don't grow it, you know, you can't
• 26:48
Speaker 5: can't grow everything. I mean, maybe you don't have the
• 26:50
Speaker 5: means to grow it. You just don't have it. And
• 26:52
Speaker 5: there's a lot of areas, and there's areas not far
• 26:54
Speaker 5: from Charleston that are considered to be food deserts.
• 26:57
Speaker 6: Yes, and you know Clay County doesn't have a grocery store,
• 27:00
Speaker 6: so that's one area where we focus heavily on extra
• 27:03
Speaker 6: mile mobile pantry, whatever we can do to help those folks.
• 27:07
Speaker 6: And like you said, they're all across West Virginia.
• 27:09
Speaker 5: All right, So people coming to the regatta, let's try
• 27:12
Speaker 5: to recap here before we let you get people coming
• 27:13

  Speaker 8: Texays dear day.
• 32:53
Speaker 5: The historical thing that I missed most from regattas long
• 32:56
Speaker 5: ago are the smells. All the girls smell like Aquanett's
• 33:00
Speaker 5: Zema and Marlborough lights. Eighties regatta was boss man, that
• 33:04
Speaker 5: says a text. Yeah, the Zema, there's the name I
• 33:08
Speaker 5: haven't heard in a while. And the Aquinet and Marlboro lights.
• 33:11
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 33:12
  Speaker 14: You know.
• 33:12
  Speaker 15: The thing about.
• 33:13
Speaker 5: Regatta is and the Mayor's talked about this since it
• 33:17
Speaker 5: was brought back a couple of years ago. People you know, say, well,
• 33:19
Speaker 5: I remember when the regatta was ten days or however
• 33:22
Speaker 5: long it was or whatever. Well, you got to understand
• 33:25
Speaker 5: that we had a lot less people in the Charleston
• 33:29
Speaker 5: area that what we had then. We don't have the
• 33:33
Speaker 5: money without spont because trust me, if there aren't sponsors
• 33:36
Speaker 5: for this thing, nothing happens. This is not The city
• 33:39
Speaker 5: does a great job on regatta, but they'll be the
• 33:41
Speaker 5: first to tell you. The entire regatta board and the
• 33:43
Speaker 5: mayor will tell you, without these corporate sponsors, the regatta
• 33:46
Speaker 5: doesn't happen. The city doesn't put put this on out
• 33:48
Speaker 5: of their own pocket. It has to come from corporate sponsors.
• 33:53
Speaker 5: And the big corporate sponsors just aren't here anymore. There
• 33:58
Speaker 5: are a few, and and they do a great job
• 34:02
Speaker 5: with a lot of these things, not just the Regatta
• 34:05
Speaker 5: but other things that go on, but got to have
• 34:07
Speaker 5: the corporate sponsorship, and corporations just aren't here to write
• 34:12
Speaker 5: the checks anymore like they used to be. So that's
• 34:14
Speaker 5: why it was kind of is kind of shortened a
• 34:16
Speaker 5: little bit. And it's still a great event. I mean,
• 34:18
Speaker 5: a quarter of a million people are going to be
• 34:19
Speaker 5: in Charleston. And one of the great things about the
• 34:23
Speaker 5: return of the Regatta as opposed to years ago, is
• 34:25
Speaker 5: now with the technology, they can actually track where people
• 34:30
Speaker 5: are coming from. You know, that little thing that you
• 34:33
Speaker 5: are addicted to twenty hours a day, that little phone
• 34:35
Speaker 5: in your pocket. It tracks everything you do, even if
• 34:38
Speaker 5: your location services are turned off. So try not to
• 34:42
Speaker 5: fall for that. But we know where people are coming
• 34:46
Speaker 5: from and where they're spending the money. Tim Brady from
• 34:48
Speaker 5: the Charleston CVB was on the show last week. By
• 34:52
Speaker 5: the way, Tim's going to be on the show tomorrow
• 34:53
Speaker 5: as well, because the economic numbers are coming out from
• 34:57
Speaker 5: the Pro Road Bike Championships back in May, some preliminary
• 35:02
Speaker 5: numbers are coming out. Tim is going to be on
• 35:04
Speaker 5: the show to talk about that tomorrow. But one of
• 35:06
Speaker 5: the great things about Regatta, and one of the great
• 35:08
Speaker 5: things about the Pro Roads and all this other things,
• 35:12
Speaker 5: the local people support it. But people from out of
• 35:14
Speaker 5: town do. We draw an incredible number of people for
• 35:19
Speaker 5: Regatta from Pittsburgh, from DC. Some of them have ties
• 35:24
Speaker 5: to the area, maybe they grew up here, they went
• 35:26
Speaker 5: to college around here somewhere. Some of them don't. They
• 35:28
Speaker 5: just come down for the music, for the starn wheel races,
• 35:30
Speaker 5: the food and everything else that goes along with it.
• 35:34
Speaker 5: And my friends at Regatta Pro Wrestling would be very
• 35:38
Speaker 5: upset with me if I didn't mention that they have
• 35:40
Speaker 5: a show. So Adam Harris, if you're listening, I know
• 35:42
Speaker 5: Adam had reached out to me about coming on the
• 35:44
Speaker 5: show to talk about that. We will make sure that
• 35:46
Speaker 5: we'll get you on sometime over the next couple of
• 35:48
Speaker 5: days to talk about that. So that's one of the
• 35:50
Speaker 5: great things again to me about Regatta is the amount
• 35:52
Speaker 5: of people that come from out of town for this
• 35:55
Speaker 5: and the music, the food, everything that goes along with that.
• 36:01
Speaker 5: Metro News Midday coming up at noon today. There are
• 36:04
Speaker 5: some strange lady on the show today who I haven't
• 36:08
Speaker 5: seen in about a week and a half. Amanda Baron,
• 36:11
Speaker 5: kidding ab She is back from vacation. Thirteen News Tonight
• 36:15
Speaker 5: Live anchor Amanda Baron, and she and I will be
• 36:18
Speaker 5: handling things today on the show again on the show tomorrow.
• 36:22
Speaker 5: Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB is going to be
• 36:25
Speaker 5: stopping by the show tomorrow. Texays the one since we
• 36:31
Speaker 5: eighties girls also had that the texture forgot Hawaiian tropic
• 36:36
Speaker 5: suntan looation. That's a text the smells of Summer. I
• 36:41
Speaker 5: don't know. That doesn't really sound good. It's nine forty
• 36:44

• 36:55
Speaker 5: And we're going to give you a fair warning.
• 36:56
  Speaker 14: Now.
• 36:56
Speaker 5: I'm not going to be on the show on Thursday,
• 36:58
Speaker 5: either this show or News Midday. I do I get
• 37:01
Speaker 5: a day off, and we're not doing shows on Friday.
• 37:05
Speaker 5: So Amy Breedlove, who you heard as my sort of
• 37:08
Speaker 5: co host on the show on Friday. World renowned voice
• 37:12
Speaker 5: actor extraordinary Amy is going to be in hosting for
• 37:16
Speaker 5: me this coming Thursday, Texas ten days for regatta. Our
• 37:22
Speaker 5: diminished attention span could not hold today's population for that long.
• 37:26
Speaker 5: That's probably something to be said for that too. And
• 37:29
Speaker 5: you just think about, i mean, the amount of work
• 37:33
Speaker 5: that goes into a four day regatta, and cities you know,
• 37:36
Speaker 5: all around know this. I mean we're talking about you know,
• 37:40
Speaker 5: it's it's a twenty four hour thing. Long after the
• 37:42
Speaker 5: music has ended, long after the the vendors have closed
• 37:45
Speaker 5: up for the night. The city Cruise are out doing stuff,
• 37:48
Speaker 5: they're out cleaning. It taxes the fire department, It taxes
• 37:51
Speaker 5: the police department as well. So again, I think four
• 37:54
Speaker 5: days is pretty good. And the mayor has always, you know,
• 37:57
Speaker 5: ever since that it was brought back, has asked queb
• 38:00
Speaker 5: been asked questions on this show in other places about
• 38:02
Speaker 5: the timing. Why it's now and it used to be
• 38:05
Speaker 5: you know, in September, closer to Labor Day. Well, the
• 38:07
Speaker 5: reason is because school starts like the first of August now,
• 38:11
Speaker 5: and high school football starts earlier, and so that greatly
• 38:15
Speaker 5: cuts in to the number of people that attend that
• 38:18
Speaker 5: we got them. If you haven't read it or didn't
• 38:23
Speaker 5: hear it, I would point your attention to TJ. Meadows
• 38:27
Speaker 5: commentary this morning. It's available on the website wv metronews
• 38:31
Speaker 5: dot com in case you may have missed it on
• 38:32
Speaker 5: the air. It's a good one, it really is. It
• 38:36
Speaker 5: started out by talking about late last Thursday night slash
• 38:42
Speaker 5: early Friday morning with the traffic was at a standstill
• 38:44
Speaker 5: on the turnpike. You all know the story by now,
• 38:47
Speaker 5: and yes, the parkway's authority has totally owned it. In
• 38:51
Speaker 5: a statement that released by the authority, which we broke
• 38:53
Speaker 5: the story Friday on Metro News Midday, the authority saying
• 38:56
Speaker 5: that they promise that that will never happen again. Of course,
• 39:00
Speaker 5: they said that back in two thousand and nine when
• 39:05
Speaker 5: people spent twenty hours stranded on the turnpike and a snowstorm. Now, now,
• 39:10
Speaker 5: to be fair, the same people aren't in charge now
• 39:13
Speaker 5: that we're in two thousand and nine, as TJ points out,
• 39:18
Speaker 5: and correctly so, there needs to be a full investigation,
• 39:21
Speaker 5: which will come and of course a detailed timeline and response.
• 39:26
Speaker 5: But the key point of TJ's commentary is, and I
• 39:31
Speaker 5: agree one hundred percent, is maybe in the state we
• 39:34
Speaker 5: should be more concerned with actually governing instead of getting
• 39:38
Speaker 5: sidetracked by all these culture issues and other things that
• 39:44
Speaker 5: really don't do anything in my opinion, but further divide
• 39:48
Speaker 5: and already divided populace. And I couldn't agree with it more.
• 39:52
Speaker 5: I mean, DEI, vaccine issues, et cetera, et cetera. All
• 39:56
Speaker 5: it does is take away, in my opinion, from the
• 39:59
Speaker 5: importance stuff. And TJ ends the commentary by saying this
• 40:03
Speaker 5: is a quote less culture war, more competence, less noise,
• 40:08
Speaker 5: more tangible results. To mister Meadows, I would say, amen,
• 40:12
Speaker 5: go read the commentary. It's available at wv metronews dot com.

• 43:48
Speaker 5: it worse by not standing up for the people of

Speaker 5: next our four oh one K and social security. That's
• 43:58
Speaker 5: interesting that you bring up us that about social security
• 44:00
Speaker 5: because I had something in my notes I want to

• 44:41

• 44:44
Speaker 5: on one screen set up on a parking lot and
• 44:46
Speaker 5: Greece airing at the Cultural Center of theater. As a Texter,
• 44:50
Speaker 5: tex says, Republicans need to stand up against Trump than
• 44:56
Speaker 5: Trump's policies that are destroying our economy, or give a
• 45:00
Speaker 5: their man card, get a backbone and lose what you
• 45:02
Speaker 5: have worked for as a texture. Excuse me, but Dave
• 45:07
Speaker 5: Island showing five eighty live is broad too, part by
• 45:09
Speaker 5: morgad and Mortgan, America's largest injury law firm. So the
• 45:12
Speaker 5: debate continues over the Big Beautiful Bill, of course, that
• 45:15
Speaker 5: dominated the Sunday morning shows. And regardless of how you
• 45:19
Speaker 5: feel about the Big Beautiful Bill, I'm going to go
• 45:23
Speaker 5: ahead and say this. We cannot keep spending money like
• 45:27
Speaker 5: we are. It is simply not sustainable and no one
• 45:33
Speaker 5: wants things that are important to them cuts. But this
• 45:37
Speaker 5: country is going to be more broke than we already
• 45:40
Speaker 5: are if we keep doing what we're doing. We want
• 45:45
Speaker 5: work requirements for people on Medicaid, and look, I am
• 45:47
Speaker 5: fine with that, but depending on which numbers you look at,
• 45:50
Speaker 5: sixty four percent of those on Medicaid are already working.
• 45:55
Speaker 5: That figure kind of gets it can go up or down,
• 45:58
Speaker 5: but sixty four percent of those dedicate R working. The
• 46:02
Speaker 5: government continues to spend like drunken sailors and Social Security,
• 46:09
Speaker 5: which the texture just mentioned interestingly enough that they would
• 46:11
Speaker 5: mention that which is not really necessarily a big part
• 46:14
Speaker 5: of this bill. Social Security is going to be broke
• 46:17
Speaker 5: in ten years. And for those people like me, My
• 46:20
Speaker 5: wife and I were having this discussion yesterday, maybe looking
• 46:23
Speaker 5: at retirement in another ten years. I don't see myself
• 46:28
Speaker 5: ever retiring, to be honest with you, I can see myself,
• 46:30
Speaker 5: you know, cutting back a little bit, but not retiring.
• 46:32
Speaker 5: But anyway, when people of my age, and I'll be
• 46:35
Speaker 5: fifty five in September, when we start thinking about retirement
• 46:40
Speaker 5: or cutting back a little bit, social Security is not
• 46:43
Speaker 5: going to be there. Most figures say twenty early, twenty thirty,
• 46:47
Speaker 5: social Security is gone, which is fine because I never
• 46:52
Speaker 5: really thought of Social Security being there anyway, and it
• 46:56
Speaker 5: was never designed to live on. That's what we have
• 46:58
Speaker 5: a tendency to forget. Social Security. He was never designed
• 47:01
Speaker 5: to pay your rents. It was never designed for you
• 47:03
Speaker 5: to live on. It was called supplemental for a reason.
• 47:09
Speaker 5: But back to the Big Beautiful Bill. It may have
• 47:11
Speaker 5: some good stuff in it, some bad stuff in it,
• 47:13
Speaker 5: but the Big Beautiful Bill is expected to add three
• 47:15
Speaker 5: to five trillion dollars trillion with the T to the
• 47:20
Speaker 5: national debt, which is not a very Republican way of
• 47:24
Speaker 5: doing things. But most of the Republicans these days aren't
• 47:27
Speaker 5: very Republican to begin with. The preceding was an editorial comment,
• 47:32
Speaker 5: but that's just you know, old Mandave kind of pining
• 47:35
Speaker 5: away for the old days when Republicans didn't want to
• 47:39
Speaker 5: add dollars to the debt and wanted to lead people
• 47:41
Speaker 5: alone and stay out of their personal lives, which is
• 47:43
Speaker 5: not what the modern message to the modern Republican Party is.
• 47:47
Speaker 5: In my opinion, tex says, as long as West Virginia
• 47:50
Speaker 5: is a coal state, it will never be an aviation state,
• 47:53
Speaker 5: an engineering state, a technology state. West Virginia will continue
• 47:57
Speaker 5: to be stuck as a texture. Dear Dave, one last thing,
• 48:05
Speaker 5: another thing that became historical and all that AquaNet zema
• 48:08
Speaker 5: and smoke. Okay, you almost got me on that one.
• 48:12
Speaker 5: I pulled the TJ. Meadows there. What's all this talk
• 48:16
Speaker 5: of Zema? Uh? That's the official sponsor of Talkline?
• 48:19
  Speaker 6: Did it?
• 48:19
Speaker 5: Did you not know that we sold that whatever it's
• 48:22
Speaker 5: going to be talk Line brought to you by Zema.
• 48:24
Speaker 5: Am I getting paid either? Zeema was more of a
• 48:28
Speaker 5: nineties thing. If you want to go back to my generation,
• 48:31
Speaker 5: the eighties, it's got to be Bartles and James, it's
• 48:33
Speaker 5: got to be Bartles and James, Calvin. Uh, Sun Country,
• 48:37
Speaker 5: you know the wine cooler, Camel Joe. Yeah, Cammel Joe,
• 48:42
Speaker 5: Cammel Joe. Oh from the Campbel cigarettes. Okay, okay, all right?
• 48:46
Speaker 5: Would you agree or disagree with my little analogy that
• 48:48
Speaker 5: or were you paying attention? Which one about how I
• 48:52
  Speaker 5: we're broke?
• 48:53
  Speaker 8: Well?
• 48:53
Speaker 5: About that social Security was never designed to live on,
• 48:55
  Speaker 5: not at all?
• 48:56
  Speaker 6: Uh?
• 48:56
Speaker 5: And also that what I see in this big bul bill,
• 49:00
Speaker 5: there are good things in it. I will say there
• 49:02
Speaker 5: are good things in it, but it's not very Republican
• 49:05
Speaker 5: when you add three to five trillion dollars onto the debt.
• 49:07
Speaker 5: And I really wish that Republicans would start thinking like
• 49:10
Speaker 5: Republicans again and not add much, not you know, be
• 49:15
Speaker 5: obsessed with any money to the national debt and to
• 49:17
Speaker 5: get out of people's personal lives.
• 49:19
Speaker 2: I think the Big.
• 49:20
Speaker 14: Beautiful Bill is a croc if you want to know
• 49:23
Speaker 14: the truth about it. Look, I'm glad that we're extending
• 49:27
Speaker 14: tax cuts. I think anytime you take less money off
• 49:30
Speaker 14: the top out of people's till from their labor, I
• 49:33
Speaker 14: think that's good. I think they spend their money better.
• 49:35
Speaker 14: You just talked about retirement. You know, people are criticized
• 49:39
Speaker 14: for saving their money.
• 49:39
Speaker 5: Oh, all the rituals save it.
• 49:41
  Speaker 8: Good.
• 49:41
Speaker 5: Then that's one less mouth we have to feed in retirement.
• 49:43
  Speaker 5: That's a good thing.
• 49:46
  Speaker 8: This bill.
• 49:49
Speaker 14: Doesn't address spending enough. I mean, we harp about the
• 49:52
Speaker 14: medicaid thing. It doesn't have to be medicaid. Pick anything
• 49:56
Speaker 14: you want. The bottom line is the overarching fundamental problem
• 49:59
Speaker 14: is we we spend too much money in this country.
• 50:03
  Speaker 5: Year after year.
• 50:05
Speaker 14: We run trillion two trillion dollar deficit year after year,
• 50:10
Speaker 14: bringing us to where we are today. This bill doesn't
• 50:13
Speaker 14: fix any of that. We don't have a revenue problem.
• 50:15
  Speaker 10: We have.
• 50:16
Speaker 14: We're an addicted to spending problem and we're doing nothing, nothing.
• 50:21
  Speaker 5: To fix that.
• 50:22
  Speaker 14: That's a government's answer. Let's just throw money at it.
• 50:24
Speaker 14: And look, if you kept the rates where they are.
• 50:26
Speaker 14: Let or excuse me, they went back to where they
• 50:28
Speaker 14: were pre cut. So they go back up all the
• 50:30
Speaker 14: marginal rates. I could be sold on that if I
• 50:33
Speaker 14: had any hope, any semblance of hope, that the government
• 50:38
Speaker 14: would get their spending problem under control.
• 50:40
  Speaker 5: They won't.
• 50:41
Speaker 14: So the best option is to starve the beast and
• 50:45
Speaker 14: try to get them to rein in the spending problem
• 50:49
Speaker 14: that we have in Washington. We are heading toward the cliff.
• 50:52
Speaker 14: We're like, we're kind of like the road runner in
• 50:54
Speaker 14: the coyote. We're already out over the cliff and our
• 50:56
Speaker 14: feet are going. We just haven't fallen yet and went boom.
• 51:00
  Speaker 14: We haven't had a Yeah, that's how bad. That's how
• 51:03
Speaker 14: bad all of this is, and we do absolutely nothing
• 51:09
Speaker 14: to rein it in. I looked at the numbers the
• 51:12
Speaker 14: other day. Chris van Holland was on last night, Senator
• 51:14
Speaker 14: from Maryland to a debate, Oh, if billionaires would just
• 51:16
Speaker 14: pay their fair share.
• 51:17
Speaker 5: I went and looked it up.
• 51:18
Speaker 14: We have eight hundred and some billionaires in this country,
• 51:20
Speaker 14: based on twenty twenty four numbers, six point two trillion
• 51:22
Speaker 14: dollars worth of wealth they hold. Those eight hundred people
• 51:25
Speaker 14: if we declared a war on wealth today and took
• 51:27
Speaker 14: every cent they had, we could fund the deficit for
• 51:30
Speaker 14: three years, or just about from the government for one year.
• 51:33
  Speaker 5: Take your pick.
• 51:34
Speaker 8: What's that do after that?
• 51:35
Speaker 5: It's nothing? What's that do after that? Yeah, it's nothing.
• 51:39
  Speaker 8: Tex says.
• 51:39
Speaker 5: If a big, beautiful bill is a croc as TJ says,
• 51:42
Speaker 5: why isn't he calling out Senators Capitol, Justice and Reps
• 51:44
Speaker 5: Miller and Moore? Well, I mean, I am Have you
• 51:48
Speaker 5: heard me? Have you heard me say that?
• 51:50
Speaker 14: I listen today, Riley's one hundred eleven oh six. I'll
• 51:53
Speaker 14: ask him what we're going to do about spending. It
• 51:56
Speaker 14: doesn't address spending. I think I've been fairly.
• 52:00
  Speaker 5: Verbose that I don't know that I that I would
• 52:03
Speaker 5: call them out, but I would say to Senator Capito
• 52:05
Speaker 5: or Senator Justice or Representatives Miller Moore that this is
• 52:11
Speaker 5: this is not good. It's not and start acting like
• 52:13
Speaker 5: Republicans again, that's just me. That that was not TJ.
• 52:16
  Speaker 2: That was me.
• 52:17
Speaker 5: Tex says, Uh, we second the motion. We spend too
• 52:21
Speaker 5: much money. I do believe that's what Doge was uncovering,
• 52:24
Speaker 5: says the Texter. All right, and we thought about that
• 52:27
Speaker 5: for shit, all the calls and texts to the show today.
• 52:31
Speaker 5: Coming up on the show tomorrow. Speaking of money, Uh,
• 52:33
Speaker 5: we're gonna have Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB on
• 52:36
Speaker 5: the show tomorrow because the economic numbers are in from
• 52:38
Speaker 5: the Pro Road Bike Rally championships and races and whatever. Uh,
• 52:44
Speaker 5: So we'll talk to Timp about that tomorrow. I'll see
• 52:46
Speaker 5: you then see you later day. I introduced Midday till
