Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What up, y'all? It's your boy Kevin on stage. Tony Baker.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is the Ball Brothers Podcast, where me and my
- 0:05Speaker 2: good friend Tony Baker like to wax poetically on whatever
- 0:07Speaker 2: we want to talk about. And since Tom Cruise bombed
- 0:11Speaker 2: his life away... this last weekend with Digger. Give him
- 0:16Speaker 2: the box office nerd numbers on it. We had to
- 0:19Speaker 2: build him back up, man. He ain't having a good week.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Tell the people how bad he bombed and give us
- 0:25Speaker 2: like a understanding.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Of categorize the Digger bomb. Okay. Because he took a
- 0:30Speaker 1: massive LL Cool J. Okay.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Digger is the latest Tom Cruise movie. It's directed by Alejandro.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I don't want to say his last name. He directed
- 0:45Speaker 1: The Revenant.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yep.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And so, you know, he's artistically acclaimed, all that good stuff. So,
- 0:52Speaker 3: you know, this is pretty much a Tom Cruise, let's
- 0:54Speaker 3: swing for the awards sector.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And they swung the bat, it fell out of his hands,
- 1:00Speaker 2: went into the stand, smacked.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The baby in the face, gave him a concussion.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Because the critics aren't really rocking with this piece. It's
- 1:08Speaker 3: like probably 50-something on Rotten Tomatoes. This is one of
- 1:11Speaker 3: the movies where let's do it for the critics, y'all.
- 1:14Speaker 3: And Tom Cruise is just like, this is Departure. And
- 1:16Speaker 3: so they have the budget listed here as $ 125 million,
- 1:22Speaker 3: but I've seen reports that the budget might actually be
- 1:25Speaker 3: as high as $ 160 to $ 180.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That's what I saw, $ 160 to $ 180. That's the budget.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Most people say $ 180. On the satire tip. Warner Brothers
- 1:35Speaker 1: is tripping. So.
- 1:37Speaker 3: This movie opened at $ 8. 7 million domestically.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Another $ 11 million. You smell like booty. Hey, Tom. You
- 1:47Speaker 1: smell like booty. Hey, what's that little girl's name? Kenya Jones.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Kenya Jones.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We need to have you pull up on Tom Cruise.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You smell like booty. It's sitting at $ 20. 5 million on
- 2:02Speaker 1: this day worldwide.
- 2:07Speaker 3: This movie is going to take a huge L for
- 2:09Speaker 3: Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers keeps taking L's in 2026. It
- 2:14Speaker 3: should have never got rid of Christopher Nolan. And, you know,
- 2:21Speaker 3: it just, when you look at the trailer, you're just like,
- 2:23Speaker 3: what is this movie about?
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's why I think they made the mistake of thinking,
- 2:29Speaker 2: they being Tom, Warner Brothers, the marketing team, thinking you
- 2:32Speaker 2: could just roll Tom out and be like, he's in makeup.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Because I saw the trailer and the stuff, and I
- 2:39Speaker 2: was just like, nah. And I liked Tom Cruise. I
- 2:42Speaker 2: was just like, I don't even know what this movie's about.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So I wasn't going to go. And if I would
- 2:46Speaker 2: have went, it would have been somebody saw it like, yo,
- 2:48Speaker 2: Digger was great. When that came out with that $ 8 million,
- 2:51Speaker 2: I said, oh, I made a perfect choice.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. No, don't get me wrong. Good movies bomb.
- 2:56Speaker 1: That happened. Yeah. It could be good. It could be.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 3:01Speaker 3: CinemaScore is giving it like a C +, which is
- 3:04Speaker 3: not good. But, you know, great movies have bombed before.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Wonderful Life, Shawshank Redemption, The Thing from 1982. These movies
- 3:11Speaker 3: bombed horribly, but I don't know about this one, man.
- 3:14Speaker 3: It might be one of those movies that's just good,
- 3:16Speaker 3: but it's not going to make money.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Ain't no DVD market to save it. Nah, this is
- 3:22Speaker 3: a big L for Tom Cruise and Warner Brothers and Alejandro.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Why, Warner Brothers is Skydance now.
- 3:27Speaker 2: They got up out of here at the last second.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So because of that, we're doing a deep dive. Deep
- 3:35Speaker 1: dive on Tom Cruise. Thomas Cruise, man. Thomas Cruisington.
- 3:40Speaker 2: If you don't know about the deep dive, here's everything
- 3:42Speaker 2: me and Tony got to talk about. First movie you
- 3:44Speaker 2: saw the man. First movie you think of. Favorite movie.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Best movie.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Least favorite movie. Best chemistry in a movie. Role they
- 3:50Speaker 1: haven't played you'd like to see. Best scene.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Most overrated movie. Underrated movie. Should have won an Oscar.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Paycheck movie. That's the one that got them paid. Best
- 3:59Speaker 2: director for them. Hall of Fame performance, if.
- 4:01Speaker 1: We have one. and draft their top 10 movies that
- 4:04Speaker 1: we cannot repeat. Tone, kick it off.
- 4:08Speaker 2: When you hear Tom Cruise's name, I mean, when you
- 4:11Speaker 2: think of Tom Cruise, what is the first movie you
- 4:13Speaker 2: saw him in?
- 4:15Speaker 1: The first movie I saw him in was where it registered. Yep.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Because I've seen him in movies before, like Taps, The Outsiders.
- 4:25Speaker 3: I've seen him in those, but he didn't register. The
- 4:28Speaker 3: first time he registered for me was Risky Business.
- 4:31Speaker 1: That was the underwear yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Because of because of the zz top we're not zz
- 4:36Speaker 3: top bob seger whoever sang that damn song just take
- 4:40Speaker 3: them old records off the shelf when he was dancing
- 4:43Speaker 3: that when you came in here yeah because of this.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Oh i was like okay now it all comes together all.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Coming together so him dancing around in his underwear with
- 4:53Speaker 3: the shades on That's when Tom Cruise was etched in.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Yeah. That slide in is iconic. The slide in. That's iconic. Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That was when Tom Cruise first sat in my brain. Okay.
- 5:08Speaker 1: For real, for real. Tom Cruise came into my life
- 5:12Speaker 1: with Top Gun. Top Gun is out in- 86. 86.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm sure my Aunt Sadie had it on VHS. Mm-hmm.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Let me watch it, probably 88, 89. I wasn't three
- 5:27Speaker 2: when I watched it, but I was probably at five
- 5:29Speaker 2: or six.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Okay. I remember thinking he was so cool. Oh, yeah, man.
- 5:32Speaker 1: That man was a fighter pilot. Yeah. He was like.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I remember him and Val Kilmer looked the most like,
- 5:39Speaker 2: they look kind of like G.I.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Joe's. And I was playing with G.I. Joe's a lot.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I was like, yo, these are like, these are like G.I.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Joe. The dude from ER, I was like, he shouldn't
- 5:48Speaker 1: be with y'all. Goose.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Anthony Edwards, he never fit the vibe visually.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I was a kid like... Goose was like, hey, man.
- 5:58Speaker 3: No disrespect to Anthony Edwards.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He has a softness to him. He fit in perfect
- 6:04Speaker 1: in ER. He was great in ER, man. You a
- 6:07Speaker 1: hospital boy, not... As a fighter pilot, I was just like, hey,
- 6:12Speaker 1: you're crazy. It's like Woody Harrelson being a fighter pilot, like... Nah, man.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Even Randy Quaid in Independence Day. Even Randy Quaid makes sense.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Nah, man. But he was crazy, though. He was crazy wild. Like,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Will Smith would fit right in the Top Gun.
- 6:28Speaker 2: If Will Smith, he's Jay Ellis in the new Top Gun.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yes. That could have been a young Will Smith.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:34Speaker 1: If Will Smith was cast in Top Gun, he has that.
- 6:37Speaker 1: For sure.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Military bravado look. That's why he worked in Independence Day.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I bought him a fighter pilot hook, line, and sinker.
- 6:45Speaker 1: For sure. But that goose, I was like, why he
- 6:48Speaker 1: with y'all, man? Mechanic, yes. Mechanic for sure. A witty, friendly,
- 6:55Speaker 1: soft mechanic, yes. Easy. But you pressing the buttons? No.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You doing this? Val Kilmer and Tal Cruz is perfect.
- 7:03Speaker 1: They have the haircuts of fighter pilots. Fantastic. Tom Cruise
- 7:06Speaker 1: was so doggone cocky in that. Oh, for sure. He
- 7:10Speaker 1: was such a cocky. Yes, sir. I got the need
- 7:14Speaker 1: for speed. High fives, volleyball, slow motion. You could be
- 7:20Speaker 1: my wingman anytime, man. Tecmo ball high five.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yo, when you used to play tech, Bobo, and your
- 7:33Speaker 2: boy scored a touchdown on you and you knew that
- 7:35Speaker 2: was cutting to that animation.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Man, I used to be pissed. Because it was taking forever.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I used to be like.
- 7:46Speaker 3: If you ran the ball in and it was this,
- 7:49Speaker 3: throw the ball down. Hop into the other dude's arms.
- 7:54Speaker 3: If you called the pass, they'd show you running. You
- 8:00Speaker 3: had to take it.
- 8:03Speaker 2: My brother used to be killing me on Tecmo Bowl. So,
- 8:06Speaker 2: I mean, it'd be like 49 to 7. I always
- 8:09Speaker 2: had to watch the animation. I hated high fives.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It was like... Oh, snap, dog. Watch out. Or that's
- 8:19Speaker 1: how you think you really got to pass off. It
- 8:22Speaker 1: comes to the animation. Oh, the animation. And the animation interception. Oh,
- 8:28Speaker 1: come on, man. You be like.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Because you never knew when the animation was coming in
- 8:37Speaker 3: play action.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Never. You never knew when it was coming. You was like, man,
- 8:42Speaker 1: come on, man. Hated that, man. All right.
- 8:47Speaker 2: So what's the first movie when you think of? If
- 8:50Speaker 2: I say Tom Cruise, gun to your head.
- 8:53Speaker 1: First movie. Top Gun. Top Gun.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I don't know. For me, it's not Top Gun. Okay.
- 9:00Speaker 1: For me, it is Jerry Maguire. Ooh, okay. Show me
- 9:04Speaker 1: the money! Show me the money! Oh, man.
- 9:08Speaker 2: That scene when Tom Cruise thought that the agents were
- 9:12Speaker 2: coming with him and then people did not move.
- 9:16Speaker 1: You seen him deflate? Yeah. Okay.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Let me tell you about the beauty of Jerry Maguire
- 9:22Speaker 3: and why Jerry Maguire wouldn't have worked with another actor.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Because like you said, when we see Tom Cruise, we're
- 9:30Speaker 3: used to seeing somebody.
- 9:31Speaker 1: That's got it all together, that's got it all figured out.
- 9:34Speaker 1: He's the man. You know what I'm saying? It's Tom Cruise, man.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Top gun. You know what I'm saying? Mission Impossible, he's
- 9:40Speaker 1: got everything figured out, man. He's got all the angles.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Jerry Maguire, man, he didn't have it all figured out.
- 9:46Speaker 3: He didn't have the angles worked out.
- 9:49Speaker 1: It didn't work. He was getting his feet together the
- 9:51Speaker 1: whole movie. Even in Love, he didn't have his feet together.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So it was just dope seeing him in that kind
- 9:56Speaker 1: of role. And Renee Zellweger was perfect. Oh, absolutely. She
- 10:00Speaker 1: came in the fish. Who's coming with me? Yeah. That
- 10:03Speaker 1: was like... Watch out, man. We over here. We over
- 10:07Speaker 1: here typing stuff. It was so quiet. We typing stuff, man.
- 10:11Speaker 1: All right. Favorite Tom... Oh, my God, Marcus.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 10:18Speaker 1: This hadn't happened in a long time. There we go.
- 10:24Speaker 1: We moving over here. All right. Favorite Tom Cruise movie.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Favorite Tom Cruise movie. Tom Cruise has made a lot
- 10:37Speaker 1: of movies that I like. I know. This is hard.
- 10:40Speaker 1: This is really hard. Favorite Tom Cruise movie. Okay. How
- 10:45Speaker 1: do I... Man, he He's made so many different types
- 10:49Speaker 1: of movies. Let me think of this. Which one would
- 10:53Speaker 1: I want to rewatch? This is tough. Yeah, this is tough.
- 10:59Speaker 1: This is tough. He got a good resume.
- 11:01Speaker 2: He got a great resume. Digger ain't going to change
- 11:04Speaker 2: nothing about him. I actually appreciate him taking a massive L.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. You got to still try for stuff. For sure. L.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I might have to go with, damn, man, I really
- 11:24Speaker 3: don't know what my favorite Tom Cruise movie is.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Of all time. I'm going between a few. Are we
- 11:41Speaker 1: going to do a few? No, no, no. You can
- 11:43Speaker 1: only do one.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I'm just telling you I'm thinking about a few.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I got my answer. All right, give it to me.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm going to go with. Collateral.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You my friend, Tom. Collateral. You are a friend of mine.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I was just thinking, I love how big Tom Cruise
- 12:02Speaker 1: can get. And for that reason, that cold calculated serial killer,
- 12:08Speaker 1: or hit man, I guess. And he did layers to him.
- 12:12Speaker 1: He did. He did. But when he had to go
- 12:15Speaker 1: into that killer mode. Hey, man. The one note I got, man.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Give it to me.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Jamie Foxx and Jada ain't taking him out. They not
- 12:27Speaker 3: taking him out. I'm sorry. The skill set he continued
- 12:32Speaker 3: to show throughout that movie.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I just don't believe it. Hmm. I don't see them
- 12:39Speaker 1: surviving the goddamn night. How did he kill Tom? It
- 12:43Speaker 1: was the train, right? Yeah, on the train. He got lucky, though,
- 12:46Speaker 1: didn't he?
- 12:46Speaker 3: He was chasing them or whatever. But I just, I
- 12:51Speaker 3: can't see that happening.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Where did they lose Jada?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Because she wasn't on the train. He was after her
- 13:00Speaker 2: all night. Yeah, she was going to be the final piece. Well,
- 13:03Speaker 2: he was after everybody, but she was the final piece.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I ain't seen Collateral in a minute, so I'm blanking
- 13:07Speaker 2: on how he saved her.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I can't remember either. But it was because they was
- 13:19Speaker 3: on the run. He had called her to warn her
- 13:22Speaker 3: that he was coming.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:24Speaker 3: And then I felt like I felt like at that moment,
- 13:27Speaker 3: Tom was getting sloppy.
- 13:30Speaker 1: As the night went on.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I just didn't buy that. But I know I know
- 13:33Speaker 3: it had to be that way for the story.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Jamie went to her office. Yeah, he called her. He
- 13:39Speaker 1: called her, but then he went, didn't he? He ended
- 13:40Speaker 1: up going in there, but he had made the call.
- 13:42Speaker 1: But how did she escape?
- 13:45Speaker 3: She was hiding within the office building.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So why are they going to train again?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Did Jamie draw? I ain't seen Collateral in a minute.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I watched it a lot for many years. I used
- 13:58Speaker 2: to turn Collateral on. I used to watch Collateral and Ray.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Cause there's just Jamie Foxx had a great, it was.
- 14:04Speaker 1: A great year for Jamie, man.
- 14:07Speaker 2: That was like DMX back to back albums. That's what
- 14:10Speaker 2: Jamie did that year.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Once he went in there and got her out the building,
- 14:13Speaker 1: they just ran to the train station. Okay. So then
- 14:16Speaker 1: Tom was just chasing him.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah. I felt like they did a good job with Jamie.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Didn't out hit man him. I just got lucky.
- 14:22Speaker 1: He never, he was like, but remember he was just
- 14:26Speaker 1: shooting it. He only hit him once. And then he,
- 14:28Speaker 1: he died. Like how Jordan low key.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 1: He just sat in the train. But you know Jamie
- 14:35Speaker 1: gotta win, man. I know it had to be that way,
- 14:38Speaker 1: but I was just like, man, nah. But the movie
- 14:43Speaker 1: is excellent, though.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Barry Shabaka Henley, that scene with him and Barry Shabaka
- 14:47Speaker 2: Henley in the jazz scene.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Barry Shabaka Henley... He going to deliver. Yeah, he delivered, man.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I feel bad for him, man.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Man, my favorite part of that movie is when Tom
- 14:56Speaker 2: Cruise was like, man, you ain't starting no business, man.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Shut up. He called him out.
- 15:01Speaker 2: And you ain't getting the insurance. Jamie's like, no, I
- 15:03Speaker 2: got to get the insurance to get it. And Tom
- 15:05Speaker 2: was like, man, you ain't doing.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Nothing, man. I'm the same way with people, dog. You are,
- 15:09Speaker 1: Tom Cruise. I am. And Jamie was like. Because you
- 15:14Speaker 1: keep talking about it, man. When are you going to
- 15:16Speaker 1: do it? I felt Tom back then, that cab, man.
- 15:21Speaker 1: How long you going to be getting it together?
- 15:23Speaker 2: He had all the paperwork in the visor. How long
- 15:27Speaker 2: you going to be getting it together?
- 15:30Speaker 1: Not long, man.
- 15:34Speaker 2: He met you that day, and he was like, man,
- 15:36Speaker 2: I don't buy it, man. You ain't opening up no
- 15:38Speaker 2: limo shop, cab driver. Huh?
- 15:42Speaker 1: You ain't opening up no limo nothing.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Because people will sit there and prep and prep and
- 15:46Speaker 3: prep and prep and just be paralyzed in the prep.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It's fear. It's fear.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You think you're getting prepared. You ain't never starting nothing.
- 15:53Speaker 2: There's a lot of Jamie Foxx's in the room. I'm
- 15:55Speaker 2: trying to get the pieces together. You've been getting the
- 15:57Speaker 2: pieces together for 27 years. He was like, I'm going
- 16:00Speaker 2: to kill you anyways. I know you're not going to
- 16:02Speaker 2: start this. Let me tell you. You wasn't going to
- 16:05Speaker 2: start it no way, but I'm killing you tonight, so
- 16:08Speaker 2: you for sure ain't going to start it. He was
- 16:10Speaker 2: killing people so hard and fast in that movie, man.
- 16:13Speaker 2: You think his plan was to kill Jamie?
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yes. Okay.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Because remember they told you the other time it had
- 16:19Speaker 2: happened before and the cab driver, they thought it was
- 16:21Speaker 2: the cab driver and they said he killed himself.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So he was going to blame it on Jamie. It's
- 16:25Speaker 2: going to be like another cab driver serial killer situation.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He probably would have put the gun to his head.
- 16:29Speaker 2: But man, remember when Tom, Jamie thought he got away
- 16:32Speaker 2: with one and the dude came out the window?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Jamie was like, oh my God.
- 16:38Speaker 2: This dude is, you can see him like, oh, come on. Nigga,
- 16:43Speaker 2: Tom wasn't going for none of that stuff.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And that's what I'm saying.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Like, even with Mark Ruffalo, you thought Mark Ruffalo was
- 16:49Speaker 3: going to save him.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Nah. Lit him up smooth. Lit him up smooth. I
- 16:55Speaker 1: thought Mark Ruffalo was going to be around. Why? was
- 16:59Speaker 1: doing that three shot thing. He was precise. Just one
- 17:03Speaker 1: in the head. It's over with, man. You kill them
- 17:06Speaker 1: muggers that quick? Oh, man. Watch out. Alright, so now
- 17:11Speaker 1: we on to best movie. So that was our favorite movie.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Now we're going to best movie. Yeah. Tom Cruise got some...
- 17:29Speaker 1: A Few Good Men was. Man, he has so many.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Jerry Maguire was great. He won an Oscar for that. Who? Oh, no.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Cuba won an Oscar.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Harry Spears, I hated him in that movie. Oh, yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 1: He was good. God. Regina King went off on that. Oh, man.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Post Protocol was great. Rayman. Rayman is good. Yeah. Man,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm thinking. His best movie next? We got to do
- 18:03Speaker 1: least favorite. No, best is next. Oh, best is next?
- 18:07Speaker 1: I mean, least favorite's next. Oh, least, okay. Few Good
- 18:16Speaker 1: Men with Jack Nicholson. That's an excellent movie, man. That's
- 18:19Speaker 1: a great movie. Great cast, great story.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I'm really partial to some of the Mission Impossible stuff.
- 18:28Speaker 2: That first Mission Impossible was such an impact on me.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I don't know if that's his best movie.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Visually, that movie's iconic. Yeah. Because that was the first
- 18:38Speaker 1: one they did the mask stuff. They had Jon Voight.
- 18:41Speaker 1: The hanging scene. The hanging thing.
- 18:45Speaker 2: The introduction of all that, that movie was so good,
- 18:48Speaker 2: it spawned so many of those movies. But I don't
- 18:50Speaker 2: even know if that's the best Mission Impossible movie. Because
- 18:54Speaker 2: people love Fallout, Ghost Protocol. Ghost Protocol was flame.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my favorite. Yeah. Favorite Mission Impossible or favorite Tom?
- 19:04Speaker 1: Favorite Mission Impossible. Okay. I'm going to go A Few
- 19:11Speaker 1: Good Men. A Few Good Men is great. I think
- 19:14Speaker 1: Tom turned in such a great performance.
- 19:16Speaker 2: And I'm going to give him a little bit because
- 19:18Speaker 2: he stood toe-to-toe with Jack Nicholson when Jack Nicholson was killing.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Jack Nicholson killed that scene.
- 19:23Speaker 2: In the 90s, man, he was... And I was a
- 19:26Speaker 2: military kid. I ran into a lot of people like
- 19:28Speaker 2: Jack Nicholson.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah. So I feel like.
- 19:31Speaker 3: You ever look at that scene and watch Jack Nicholson
- 19:34Speaker 3: deliver the scene?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I watch it all the time. His eyes, it's just... He.
- 19:38Speaker 3: I believed every single word out of his mouth in
- 19:43Speaker 3: that moment.
- 19:43Speaker 1: It's so believable.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Even when he's trying to subdue, like he know, I
- 19:48Speaker 2: feel like he knows what Tom is doing.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And he just, just the.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Way you can't not eat the whole pie and the
- 19:58Speaker 2: way I can't stick to what I say, it's the
- 20:01Speaker 2: scorpion and the frog.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah. I know I'm not supposed to do this. I'm
- 20:06Speaker 1: going to because you're pissing me off. Right. And I don't,
- 20:10Speaker 1: Jack Nicholson didn't think he did anything wrong.
- 20:12Speaker 3: No, he stood firm on what I did. I'm good
- 20:17Speaker 3: with myself. I'm good here.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 3: There was not an ounce of any type of uncertainty
- 20:26Speaker 3: in his eyes when he went off.
- 20:28Speaker 1: No uncertainty, no regret.
- 20:29Speaker 2: And you don't get to that position where he is
- 20:32Speaker 2: if that's how you see the world.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:34Speaker 2: It's like Zoe Saldana and Lioness. Actually, that's not true.
- 20:39Speaker 2: she lives with a lot of regrets. She struggles with that,
- 20:44Speaker 2: which I think is what makes the show interesting. But
- 20:47Speaker 2: in the moment, she makes the choice. Later on, she'd
- 20:53Speaker 2: be kicking her down the steps.
- 20:57Speaker 1: But we never get to see that part of Jack Nicholson.
- 21:00Speaker 1: In that courtroom, he was like, nah. What's yours? I
- 21:05Speaker 1: will go with Rain Man. Ah, that's good. I'll just
- 21:08Speaker 1: go with Ray because it was just a fantastic movie.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 1: It had incredible legs at the box office. It won
- 21:13Speaker 1: all kinds of awards.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Dustin Hoffman got the Oscar for it.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That relationship between him and Raymond was just dope to see.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It was just a really, that was a great movie.
- 21:24Speaker 1: For sure. Yeah, yeah. For sure. I'll go Raymond. Okay.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Least favorite. Ooh, I will go Eyes Wide Shut. Nicole Kidman?
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah, him and Nicole Kidman. Stanley Kubrick's last movie. Fuck
- 21:41Speaker 3: that movie. I did not like it. I did not
- 21:45Speaker 3: like it. I didn't get it. I didn't like it.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I didn't want it.
- 21:50Speaker 3: The best thing about Eyes Wide Shut is the mystical
- 21:52Speaker 3: video Shake Your Ass, Watch Yourself.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Because it was a play on that. Eyes Wide Shut.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I should have shut.
- 22:01Speaker 3: My eyes wide and not watched that horse shit. And
- 22:05Speaker 3: I'm mad that was Stanley's last movie.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I don't remember anything about that movie, and I know why.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Because it sucked.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Eyes wide shut.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I'm going to go different. I'm going to go Vanilla Sky.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I didn't like that one either. Between the two, I
- 22:21Speaker 3: was like, eyes wide shut. Vanilla Sky right up on
- 22:25Speaker 3: the booty cheeks. I didn't like that one either.
- 22:29Speaker 2: The reason why, man, I really wanted to like Vanilla Sky.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I remember watching it and being like, man. What the
- 22:35Speaker 2: hell is going on?
- 22:36Speaker 1: I didn't like it. Ellie! That movie sucked. Ellie! I
- 22:41Speaker 1: was like... Get that movie out of here. This movie
- 22:44Speaker 1: is dumb, man. Nah, it ain't.
- 22:46Speaker 2: And I didn't like Long Hair Tom either. But yeah,
- 22:51Speaker 2: Vanilla Sky. I was so irritated with that movie, man.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Out of here, man. That movie sucked. All right, boom.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Want to take a quick break from the show to
- 23:02Speaker 1: tell you about one of our sponsors.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I got to tell you about this new prediction market
- 23:06Speaker 2: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 23:10Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 23:12Speaker 2: you put some money in, and if your team was
- 23:14Speaker 2: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 23:16Speaker 2: the trade or take a huge fee.
- 23:19Speaker 1: But Polymarket is a prediction market.
- 23:21Speaker 2: It's a stock exchange for sports, buying in and selling
- 23:25Speaker 2: out on your terms. I've tried them all, and Polymarket
- 23:28Speaker 2: is simply the best prediction market. Better than DraftKings, better
- 23:32Speaker 2: than FanDuel, better than CalShe, you name it. They are
- 23:36Speaker 2: so confident. You'll never go back to the other guys.
- 23:38Speaker 2: They're giving you a free $ 25 on your first trade
- 23:41Speaker 2: when you deposit just $ 10. And now they've launched a
- 23:46Speaker 2: new feature called Squads, which is a group chat where
- 23:50Speaker 2: you can see what everyone is trading on. So download
- 23:53Speaker 2: the Polymarket app today and use code BALDBROS when you
- 23:57Speaker 2: sign up. That's code BALDBROS to get $ 25 free after
- 24:01Speaker 2: you deposit just $ 10.
- 24:03Speaker 1: And now back to the show. Best chemistry in a movie. Ooh.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Best chemistry in the movie. Man, he's... He had great
- 24:13Speaker 1: chemistry with Jamie. Great.
- 24:15Speaker 3: He had great chemistry with Renee and Cuba. He had
- 24:19Speaker 3: great chemistry with Dustin Hoffman.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Rain Man.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Paul Newman in The Color of Money.
- 24:25Speaker 1: He had great chemistry with Val Kilmer. He had.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Oh, the chemistry between him and Brad Pitt wasn't that good.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Which one was that? Interview with a Vampire.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that at all. I think... Would it
- 24:45Speaker 1: be Nicole Kidman? And Eyes Wide Shut?
- 24:49Speaker 3: They've been together. They were together in a few movies.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Eyes Wide Shut, Far and Away. She's in Days of Thunder.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I think that's where they met. Days of Thunder. I
- 25:04Speaker 1: don't remember them having great chemistry like that. At the
- 25:07Speaker 1: top of the list for me. Okay. I think for me, Man.
- 25:20Speaker 1: He has great chemistry with Ving Rhames. Oh, so good
- 25:24Speaker 1: with Mission Impossible. Mission Impossible team. He'd be having good
- 25:27Speaker 1: chemistry with.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Even that scene with Jack Nicholson, even though they weren't
- 25:34Speaker 2: in the movie a lot, that's a good scene. Yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 2: that's a great scene. And a few good men. I think, man,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I'm really struggling with. I think I'm going to go... Man,
- 26:00Speaker 2: I'm really thinking about this. I think I'm going to go.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:13Speaker 2: This is a little bit because of how the movie was.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think I'm going to go with Jerry Maguire.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Okay. Because... Him and Rene? Him and Rene, plus... What
- 26:23Speaker 1: do you mean? It was only going to be two people?
- 26:25Speaker 1: I was thinking two people. Oh, man. I was thinking
- 26:28Speaker 1: him and Cuba. Okay. Because Cuba didn't want to sign
- 26:31Speaker 1: with him. Yeah. And, like, he also had a high
- 26:36Speaker 1: BS meter. Yeah. Rod Tidwell. He had the brother. So
- 26:41Speaker 1: I feel like Tom's personality and likeability is what made...
- 26:46Speaker 1: And you gotta be there for me.
- 26:48Speaker 2: And I feel like when we thought Rod was hurt,
- 26:51Speaker 2: Jerry wasn't worried about the contract or nothing.
- 26:53Speaker 1: He was worried about the person. So I feel like.
- 26:57Speaker 2: But then again, Jamie and Cuba... I mean, Jamie and
- 27:01Speaker 2: Tom in Collateral, their chemistry makes the movie.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that whole movie....
- 27:11Speaker 2: Succeeds on that chemistry that's why i'm so many layers
- 27:15Speaker 2: to it yeah i might have to go with collateral
- 27:18Speaker 2: and then they're in that enclosed they're in that car
- 27:21Speaker 2: for a good amount of the movie so if they
- 27:23Speaker 2: don't have chemistry that movie doesn't even work yeah so
- 27:26Speaker 2: i think i'm lying i mean not lying i'm changing
- 27:27Speaker 2: my answer i'm going back to collateral because i think
- 27:31Speaker 2: they played off each other so yeah well and then
- 27:33Speaker 2: they would.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Switch who has the power yeah great subtext.
- 27:38Speaker 3: They would be cool and not then yeah there's so
- 27:41Speaker 3: much going on yes so i'm gonna go come out
- 27:44Speaker 3: yeah go collab.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Okay role you haven't seen tom cruise play that you'd
- 27:49Speaker 2: like to see and he's played.
- 27:52Speaker 1: A lot he's played a lot of different roles and.
- 27:54Speaker 2: He was so funny in tropic thunder that that is
- 27:57Speaker 2: what i would have said and he is funny as
- 27:59Speaker 2: crap the only thing is that was a cameo right
- 28:03Speaker 2: But him with those fat hands.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Fat hands was a great choice. I don't know why.
- 28:07Speaker 1: We're going to give him fat hands. That shit was
- 28:10Speaker 1: a genius comedic choice. A movie because.
- 28:17Speaker 3: He's been a killer. He's been a straight up vampire.
- 28:23Speaker 3: He hasn't been a superhero yet though.
- 28:28Speaker 1: He has not.
- 28:28Speaker 3: They used to talk about him as being Tony Stark
- 28:32Speaker 3: back in the day.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Really? Yeah. He was rumored to be like Iron Man
- 28:36Speaker 1: for a while before. Really? Yeah. I did not know that. Yeah.
- 28:42Speaker 3: So I haven't seen him in it because he's pretty
- 28:46Speaker 3: much touched on comedy. He's been a villain. He's been
- 28:49Speaker 3: a vampire. He's been the hero. He's been a tortured soul.
- 28:54Speaker 1: He's been unraveled. He's been the cocky, you know. Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Star.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Star. Yeah, I'm going to go with a superhero. I'm
- 29:07Speaker 1: going to go with a superhero.
- 29:08Speaker 2: He's going to be rugged now. He only has like
- 29:12Speaker 2: an older Hal Jordan left.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Because what can he play now? He's 60-something, ain't he?
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he is 60 for sure.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Who the hell is he beating up? You got to
- 29:21Speaker 2: be young and strong. He still can do action. He's 64.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Mission Impossible, I'll be believing every action scene. Yeah, he
- 29:28Speaker 1: be breaking his ankles and stuff. For sure. So I'm
- 29:30Speaker 1: going to go with that. I want to see Tom...
- 29:35Speaker 1: What could he do? He ain't done no.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Has he done a full comedy non-cameo uh just a
- 29:46Speaker 1: straight up for sure.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Straight up for sure comedy like will ferrell anchorman level
- 29:51Speaker 2: comedy no all right that's what i.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Want he's done like action comedy i.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Want straight up Will Ferrell level comedy with Tom. Straight
- 29:59Speaker 2: up all comedy. Straight up all comedy, Tom Cruise. Because
- 30:03Speaker 2: he has less, whatever his name was in Chopper Thunder,
- 30:08Speaker 2: he was funny, man.
- 30:10Speaker 3: He was good when he played Austin Powers in Austin Powers.
- 30:13Speaker 1: He was funny. He was funny. He's funny. That's Scientology, man.
- 30:17Speaker 1: That's a funny-ass cameo, too. Man. All right, boom. Best scenes.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you what I think his best
- 30:26Speaker 1: scene is as an actor. Mission Impossible, him and Philip
- 30:31Speaker 1: Seymour Hoffman, when they kick off the movie and he's
- 30:34Speaker 1: counting to 10. Tony, I just pull that scene up
- 30:37Speaker 1: and watch because he, as an actor, that is it.
- 30:41Speaker 2: You see the choices. You see the obstacle. He's restrained.
- 30:46Speaker 2: All he had is he's got the tears going. That
- 30:50Speaker 2: scene is straight heat. And Philip Seymour Hoffman ain't playing around.
- 30:55Speaker 1: That's how they kick it off.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I mean, and you're talking about opening a movie with
- 30:59Speaker 2: some straight heat?
- 31:00Speaker 1: That's how you open a movie right there. Okay, okay, okay.
- 31:03Speaker 1: All right, man, come on. The Rhapsody of Paris. Come on.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Rhapsody of Paris. I'm going to get it. I'm going
- 31:08Speaker 1: to bring it to you. The Panic. I'm going to
- 31:11Speaker 1: kill you.
- 31:12Speaker 2: He's done it. He goes through the entire range of emotion.
- 31:16Speaker 2: He do, dog.
- 31:16Speaker 1: In that scene. He's like....
- 31:21Speaker 2: I'm begging to I'ma kill you, to bargaining, to manipulating,
- 31:25Speaker 2: to straight up lying, to stonewalling.
- 31:30Speaker 1: He would do everything. None of it worked, man. That's great.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Philip Seymour Hoffman was a black mom. I told you
- 31:40Speaker 2: if you didn't take this chicken down, I was whooping
- 31:42Speaker 2: your butt. Chicken in the freezer, your butt is mine.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Your butt is mine?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Your butt is mine. It's impossible. Your butt is mine.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Philip Seymour Hoffman was your buddy's mind. He was so good.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Yeah. So that, to me, like, that's an acting class
- 32:03Speaker 1: for both of them. Yeah. But Tom gets to do
- 32:05Speaker 1: a little bit more. Yeah. Philip Seymour Hoffman just gets
- 32:07Speaker 1: to do that one note. Oh, yeah. I believe Philip
- 32:10Speaker 1: Seymour Hoffman was playing the game. Where is the rabbit's foot, man?
- 32:14Speaker 3: He had no emotion behind him. Where's the rabbit's foot?
- 32:18Speaker 3: He's sick of it, man. The wind. You talking about
- 32:22Speaker 3: somebody that can do drama and comedy, man.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Philip Seymour Hoffman.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Philip Seymour Hoffman was shooting in a long-cam poly.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Rain, man.
- 32:31Speaker 2: The baskets was hitting straight backboard tone.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I was crying. He was so funny, though. I was like, yo,
- 32:37Speaker 1: this is the same dude from Twister, man. Bruh.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Ryan laughing at that scene. Is that your scene, best scene?
- 32:44Speaker 2: Or you got another one?
- 32:45Speaker 3: I would go with, because it's so iconic, I would
- 32:48Speaker 3: go with A Few Good Men.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Court scene? That court scene. Yeah. That court scene is
- 32:52Speaker 1: so iconic. And it's a longer scene, too.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to go with A Few Good Men.
- 32:56Speaker 3: But that scene you just described, yeah, that's great.
- 32:58Speaker 2: A Few Good Men is another scene that I... Sometimes
- 33:00Speaker 2: I be on YouTube, I just be watching stuff like...
- 33:04Speaker 2: I watch the Shawshank....
- 33:08Speaker 1: When the warden... From the moment the warden finds out. Oh, yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 1: To when Andy and Red. Link back up. Man, I'll
- 33:18Speaker 1: cue it up. Because the warden's face, man. You goddamn right.
- 33:22Speaker 1: He threw that rock through there. Yeah. The breeze.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Oh, man. That was great. Worth it. I love a
- 33:30Speaker 1: good happy ending.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Oh.
- 33:32Speaker 1: People be acting like happy ending is a soft name, man.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Give me a good happy ending. Yeah. God damn it.
- 33:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Most overrated movie. Huh. Overrated. You know what?
- 33:55Speaker 2: This might upset some people. I totally forgot about The Firm.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I liked War of the Worlds.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Overrated Tom Cruise movie. I'ma go with... I'ma go interview
- 34:20Speaker 1: with a vampire.
- 34:20Speaker 2: I never was really feeling that as much as everybody
- 34:25Speaker 2: else was.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I was just like... And I like vampire stuff. Me too.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I was just like, all right. It was cool, but
- 34:33Speaker 1: it was just, it's tad overrated. Yeah.
- 34:36Speaker 3: And I really, I like Tom Cruise in it, but
- 34:38Speaker 3: Brad Pitt was just there to me.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah. And they always cite Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt was
- 34:45Speaker 1: just vanilla in that. He was vanilla sky. Yeah. To me.
- 34:48Speaker 3: I thought Tom Cruise was great. I thought Kirsten Dunst
- 34:52Speaker 3: was great. But Brad Pitt was, and since Brad Pitt
- 34:56Speaker 3: probably had the majority of the screen time.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah. It was good, but it's a tad overrated. Yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I feel you. All right, boom. Underrated movie. Underrated Tom
- 35:08Speaker 1: Cruise movie. I'm going to go with... You know what
- 35:19Speaker 1: underrated movie I'm going to go with, man? American Made.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think I saw that movie.
- 35:27Speaker 3: He was a drug runner. It was based on a
- 35:29Speaker 3: true story. I thought that movie was good. But I
- 35:32Speaker 3: feel like nobody talks about that movie. But I enjoyed
- 35:38Speaker 3: American Made. Plus, anything involving drugs, whether it's real or fake,
- 35:45Speaker 3: I'm all in. And I feel like, yo, man, American
- 35:48Speaker 3: Made was a good time, man.
- 35:49Speaker 1: I'm going to go with American Made. I'm going to
- 35:51Speaker 1: go War of the Worlds. I don't know why. A
- 35:55Speaker 1: lot of people don't like that movie. His son got
- 35:58Speaker 1: on my goddamn nerves.
- 36:01Speaker 3: His son spending that whole movie just trying to not
- 36:05Speaker 3: listen to his dad got on my last nerve fiber.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I don't even remember the son. Bro, how can you
- 36:14Speaker 1: forget him? Who played the son? I think it was
- 36:19Speaker 1: Michael Douglas' son. Maybe. But he irritated the shit out
- 36:26Speaker 1: of me. But it was a good movie, though. I'm
- 36:28Speaker 1: not going to take that away from the movie, but
- 36:29Speaker 1: his son got on my last nerve. Justin Chatwin? Oh,
- 36:32Speaker 1: that's who it is?
- 36:32Speaker 2: I don't know why I thought it was Michael Jackson.
- 36:37Speaker 2: That's who it was? Is that Dragon Ball Z, boy?
- 36:39Speaker 2: It says Tom Cruise is Ray Farrier and this is
- 36:42Speaker 2: Robbie Farrier. This son got on my nerves, though. But,
- 36:48Speaker 2: The War of the Worlds is good to me. I
- 36:49Speaker 2: don't remember Glenn McShort being in this. Yeah, I like
- 36:52Speaker 2: War of the Worlds.
- 36:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm discovering, though? What's that?
- 36:55Speaker 3: Tom Cruise don't have a lot of wag movies no
- 36:58Speaker 3: he's got a good resume this resume is fire but
- 37:01Speaker 3: also he.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Was like he was making a lot of mission impossibles
- 37:04Speaker 1: for a minute even beyond even beyond the mission.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Impossibles he got a strong resume yeah this resume legit
- 37:12Speaker 2: he got a strong resume he got a lot of
- 37:15Speaker 2: really good movies that have.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Stood the test of time yeah he's.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Got some a good amount of 20 and 30 year
- 37:22Speaker 2: old movies Shoot, Mission Impossible's 30 years old this year.
- 37:25Speaker 1: I think Top Gun is- Rob Markman III is underrated,
- 37:28Speaker 1: the first one. It is. Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:35Speaker 2: He's made a lot of good movies over the years.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Top Gun and Maverick, I couldn't believe how good that
- 37:38Speaker 2: movie was.
- 37:39Speaker 1: That movie was great.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I was like, ain't no way. I'm going to go
- 37:42Speaker 2: check it out because I like Top Gun. I was like,
- 37:43Speaker 2: it's going to be trash. I remember being like, okay,
- 37:46Speaker 2: my trippin' is just kind of good.
- 37:47Speaker 1: It was better than the first one. I agree. That
- 37:50Speaker 1: was better than, because usually when they come back to
- 37:52Speaker 1: a sequel this late, man, get it out of here.
- 37:54Speaker 1: But then I was like.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Val Kilmer not talking was good.
- 37:58Speaker 1: The love still seemed a little forced. When she was
- 38:01Speaker 1: posed up, I remember when we went to see that. Yeah.
- 38:04Speaker 3: She was posed up on the car being all cute
- 38:07Speaker 3: when he walked out. Sabrina bust out laughing. The corn
- 38:12Speaker 3: syrup just, it drenched the whole movie theater audience. It
- 38:16Speaker 3: was just corn syrup all over everybody. I was like, ugh.
- 38:19Speaker 2: It was so unnecessary to me.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I didn't care about that love angle. At all.
- 38:24Speaker 2: And the daughter, it was just like, this movie's all
- 38:27Speaker 2: so long.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Could care less. You could have took that 20 minutes,
- 38:30Speaker 1: every scene of them out, and I'd have been like,
- 38:32Speaker 1: that's cool. Could care less about that element. But everything
- 38:36Speaker 1: else was excellent. Yeah, okay. Should have won an Oscar.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I'm going to say Born on the Fourth of July.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Tom Cruise ain't got no Oscars? No.
- 38:49Speaker 3: He should have won an Oscar for that one where
- 38:51Speaker 3: he played a Vietnam vet grappling with disability and stuff
- 38:57Speaker 3: like that, everything he went through in the war. I
- 38:59Speaker 3: feel like Born on the Fourth of July was a
- 39:03Speaker 3: Tom Cruise we rarely see in movies. I'm going to
- 39:06Speaker 3: go with that one for sure.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Did he get nominated for any? I think he might
- 39:12Speaker 1: have got nominated for that. For Born on the Fourth
- 39:14Speaker 1: of July? Yeah, he might have got nominated for that.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And he got nominated for Supporting Actor for his role
- 39:22Speaker 2: in Magnolia.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Oh, he did get.
- 39:24Speaker 3: Nominated for that. I didn't get Magnolia like that. I
- 39:28Speaker 3: don't want to say that was overrated. because I haven't
- 39:31Speaker 3: completed it, but when I be trying to watch it,
- 39:34Speaker 3: I'll be tuned out. But I didn't want to say
- 39:36Speaker 3: Magnolia was overrated, but from what I've seen of it,
- 39:41Speaker 3: watch out.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Do you think Few Good Men was worthy of a
- 39:45Speaker 1: Best Supporting Actor nom? For him? Yeah. He would have
- 39:49Speaker 1: got the actor nomination. Oh, you're right. You're right. Nicholson
- 39:52Speaker 1: would have got the supporting. He would have got the supporting.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I think Jack Nicholson should have got the supporting nomination
- 39:59Speaker 3: if he didn't.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I don't think he did. Yeah. That was amazing acting. Yeah.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I'm surprised Jack Nicholson didn't get nominated for that. Yeah.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I'm going to go Collateral.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I thought it was brilliant. He was great in Collateral.
- 40:23Speaker 1: I think he could have won and Jamie could have won.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And I would have been like, yes. He was great
- 40:27Speaker 1: in Collateral.
- 40:28Speaker 2: That's one of my favorite Tom Cruise roles. But maybe
- 40:30Speaker 2: because he's playing against Tide.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Not the hero. It's the cold calculator. He has so
- 40:35Speaker 1: much charisma. He still had the charisma, too. He could
- 40:38Speaker 1: have been Terminator. He could have been T-1000. He could
- 40:41Speaker 1: have been... T-1000. He'd be running just like that dude.
- 40:46Speaker 2: He definitely could have been in T-2. He could have
- 40:49Speaker 2: been T-1000.
- 40:51Speaker 1: He had that same... You know what?
- 40:54Speaker 3: Tom Cruise could have been T-2.
- 40:57Speaker 1: He 1000% could have been.
- 40:59Speaker 2: That's if that hitman from Collateral was younger and a robot.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Because Tom Cruise loved running. And he was... His run
- 41:09Speaker 1: is just like... Who is it? Gary Sinise? No, that
- 41:12Speaker 1: was Robert Patrick. Robert Patrick. Yeah.
- 41:15Speaker 2: The way he purposely didn't blink when he ran was
- 41:17Speaker 2: such a smart motherfucker.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Tom Cruise is going to take it there, man. Tom
- 41:21Speaker 3: Cruise would have been a great T-1000. He's running the game.
- 41:26Speaker 3: He loves running in this movie. He's going to run
- 41:28Speaker 3: in every movie.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Fast and terrifying. Big fast. All right. Oh, yeah.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:35Speaker 1: A few good men. Oh, Jack Nicholson did get nominated. Okay. Okay.
- 41:38Speaker 1: They got four nominations. All right.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Paycheck movie. This is the movie that got him paid.
- 41:46Speaker 2: If this comes on, you checking it out. You could
- 41:48Speaker 2: pick so many of the movies from his career. He
- 41:52Speaker 2: was killing it in the 80s.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Now this one is.
- 41:59Speaker 1: After this movie.
- 41:59Speaker 2: We said after this movie, sky's the limit. Sky's the limit.
- 42:02Speaker 2: If we got to give you $ 20 million, we got
- 42:03Speaker 2: to give you $ 20 million.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Top Gun. That's what I was going to say. Top Gun.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Top Gun, 1986.
- 42:08Speaker 2: This is it. Tommy Cruise is a movie star. Get
- 42:12Speaker 2: Tommy Cruise in here.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Because Risky Business could have been a one-off. Yeah. But
- 42:18Speaker 1: Top Gun, it will solidify, oh, we have a new
- 42:20Speaker 1: movie star. For sure. Yeah. And he been getting paid.
- 42:25Speaker 2: He got $ 200 million for that last Mission Impossible movie.
- 42:28Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 42:29Speaker 2: $ 100 million for an actor, $ 100 million as a producer.
- 42:32Speaker 2: He's half the $ 400 million budget.
- 42:35Speaker 1: And that movie lost money.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Oh.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I hated that movie, man. You hated it? I hated it. Damn.
- 42:43Speaker 1: The villain can't be AI. Yeah, that's true. Let the
- 42:47Speaker 1: Spanish dude be the full villain. He was doing great.
- 42:50Speaker 1: He signed Morales. Yeah, they cut his legs off with
- 42:52Speaker 1: the computer doing stuff. Yeah.
- 42:56Speaker 2: I get it, but I was like, man... What was
- 42:58Speaker 2: it called? The Entity or something?
- 43:01Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. The Entity. They caught the internet.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Nigga, that's how the movie went. You got to catch
- 43:06Speaker 2: the internet in a little... I said, man, what?
- 43:10Speaker 1: I don't like it. You got to chop the internet
- 43:12Speaker 1: and close it, cut it off. I said, you unplugged
- 43:17Speaker 1: the villain?
- 43:18Speaker 3: Nah.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I'm not feeling it. Watch out!
- 43:20Speaker 3: It's better when we got a human villain, like when
- 43:23Speaker 3: Henry Cavill was a villain, or like Seymour Hoffman. The
- 43:28Speaker 3: dude in Mission Impossible 2.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Catching lightning and then you win. Watch out. All right.
- 43:37Speaker 2: I'm going to lean on you for this one because
- 43:39Speaker 2: I don't know. Best director for Tom Cruise. I can't
- 43:45Speaker 2: even tell you who. I don't be knowing who be making.
- 43:49Speaker 3: So he did Francis Ford Coppola for The Outsiders. Legend
- 43:55Speaker 3: was Ridley Scott. Top Gun was Tony Scott. Man, he
- 43:59Speaker 3: worked with the brothers back to back. The Color of
- 44:02Speaker 3: Money was actually Martin Scorsese. Rain Man was Barry Levinson.
- 44:08Speaker 1: See, he's all over the place. Yeah, he's all over
- 44:10Speaker 1: the place.
- 44:11Speaker 3: He worked with Tony Scott again for Days of Thunder.
- 44:13Speaker 3: A Few Good Men was.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Rob Reiner. Was it? Yeah. Rob Reiner did A Few
- 44:24Speaker 1: Good Men. Man, Rob Reiner.
- 44:28Speaker 2: The different type of movies he's made never ceases to
- 44:31Speaker 2: amaze me.
- 44:32Speaker 1: He made everything. He did.
- 44:34Speaker 2: From that to like a teen heartthrob movie to a
- 44:39Speaker 2: mockumentary of a rock band.
- 44:40Speaker 3: Spanned by Me, Princess Bride, Spinal Tap, A Few Good Men.
- 44:44Speaker 1: That's crazy. With Harry, Miss Sally. And a rom-com. And
- 44:48Speaker 1: he hit a few of those in a row. Oh, yeah.
- 44:50Speaker 1: He was just killing. Yep. I love Rob Brown. Rest
- 44:53Speaker 1: in peace, man. Oh yeah, I hate that he died
- 44:56Speaker 1: like that. That's horrible. That's a white son.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I don't wish you would, but nigga, you broke my
- 45:03Speaker 2: heart and you pulled a knife.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Out on me. You actually killed me and ruined me
- 45:09Speaker 1: for your siblings? Yeah. The hell are the siblings supposed
- 45:12Speaker 1: to do now? Killed both parents. Killed mom and dad.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Freaking whack job. He did.
- 45:18Speaker 3: He did Brian De Palma for Mission Impossible 1, John
- 45:22Speaker 3: Woo for Mission Impossible 2, J.J.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Abrams for Mission Impossible 3. Man, watch out. He all
- 45:29Speaker 1: over the place with directors. He is a movie star.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Michael Mann was collateral. He going to make the movie good.
- 45:41Speaker 1: It don't matter who, man. Yeah, I can't really. He's
- 45:45Speaker 1: been everywhere as far as directors. Take your pick, Tone.
- 45:51Speaker 3: I'm going to just go, he had a great thing.
- 45:53Speaker 3: He worked with Steven Spielberg twice. I'm going to give
- 45:56Speaker 3: it to Steven Spielberg. He did Minority Report and War
- 45:59Speaker 3: of the Worlds.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Okay, cool. And they were good. All right. I'll do
- 46:02Speaker 1: Steven Spielberg. Yeah.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Hall of Fame performance. When they put his star on
- 46:09Speaker 2: the Hollywood, well, they already did it. But if they
- 46:14Speaker 2: put another one on there, what.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Movie would you point to and say, man? But it's
- 46:18Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. We got to go Top Gun
- 46:20Speaker 1: 1 and 2. Yeah. Not a top gun at all.
- 46:23Speaker 1: That gives him the gold jacket.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Even though it's got to be Mission Impossible, Ethan Hunt
- 46:29Speaker 3: has to be his Hall of Fame character.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Ethan Hunt might be my favorite Tom Cruise character. Let's
- 46:33Speaker 1: do Ethan Hunt as the Hall of Fame. Okay. His
- 46:36Speaker 1: performance as Ethan Hunt. Yes. In the Mission Impossible universe. Yeah. Okay.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Because this is a lot of good, even though we
- 46:41Speaker 1: ain't like the last two like that. The franchise is crazy.
- 46:45Speaker 1: He's good. Yeah. He's good. He's like Kanye. Yeah. You
- 46:49Speaker 1: made so many good movies. Yeah. Early. I don't even
- 46:53Speaker 1: hold it against you. You made Kirk Franklin, Daisy. Those
- 46:56Speaker 1: Mission Impossible movies was good. You made enough great ones. Yeah.
- 47:00Speaker 1: He probably got four... Maybe five that are amazing. Oh, yeah.
- 47:08Speaker 1: For sure. Yeah.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Mission Impossible 1, 3, 4, 5, 6.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Amazing. Yeah. No notes. And I love Mission Impossible 1.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Mission Impossible 1, I didn't get it the first time
- 47:24Speaker 3: I watched it, but I liked what I saw for
- 47:26Speaker 3: some reason.
- 47:27Speaker 1: And then when I understood it more, we'll repeat it.
- 47:29Speaker 3: You didn't get it?
- 47:30Speaker 1: I was kind of confused. I was like, wait, so
- 47:31Speaker 1: what just happened? Man, that train scene was dope. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 1: When I watched it again, and it's a movie I
- 47:38Speaker 1: can keep watching. Yeah, for sure. It's rewatchable as hell. Absolutely.
- 47:41Speaker 1: The first Mission Impossible.
- 47:42Speaker 2: That scene alone with the, when he's hanging is like,
- 47:46Speaker 2: that's what the movies are made for.
- 47:48Speaker 3: And even as ridiculous as Mission Impossible 2 was, it
- 47:51Speaker 3: was still a good time.
- 47:52Speaker 1: For sure.
- 47:53Speaker 3: John Woo was just hella dramatic with the slow motion
- 47:56Speaker 3: and the doves. Ethan Hunt was just doing crazy shit
- 48:00Speaker 3: all of a sudden. But I was still just, it
- 48:02Speaker 3: was not boring.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Yeah, no. Yeah, no.
- 48:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 48:06Speaker 1: It's time, Tone. Top ten. Top ten. Top ten Tom
- 48:11Speaker 1: Cruise movies. This is going to be tough. This is tough.
- 48:13Speaker 1: This is tough. Ten is hard. Ten is really hard.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I'm going to let you kick it off, though. Collateral.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Give me that collateral off the top, man. Give me
- 48:26Speaker 1: the collateral.
- 48:26Speaker 3: All right.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I'm going to go Top Gun Maverick. Okay. I really
- 48:31Speaker 1: enjoy that. We moving and grooving. Yeah. Give me, let
- 48:35Speaker 1: me come in with a few good men. I'm going
- 48:40Speaker 1: to go Jerry Maguire. Yes, Jerry Maguire. Jerry Maguire. Let
- 48:45Speaker 1: me get that Mission Impossible ghost protocol. I'll kill you, Dad.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I'll take it right now. I'll kill you, Dad. Hand
- 48:51Speaker 1: it over. You had a chance. You picked up three
- 48:54Speaker 1: movies in a row, though. Hand that shit over, dog.
- 48:58Speaker 1: All right, I'm going to go. I'll see you. I'm
- 49:01Speaker 1: going to go Rain Man. Ooh, you dirty bastard. I'm
- 49:04Speaker 1: going Rain Man. Dustin Hoffman also was in his bag
- 49:07Speaker 1: for a long time. Oh, he was in his smooth bag.
- 49:10Speaker 1: That scene when he was counting cards, man. I love how.
- 49:14Speaker 2: The Hangover parodied that. But Dustin Hoffman, also has a
- 49:19Speaker 2: lot of good movies.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Dustin Hoffman was killing in the 80s. He was. 70s, 80s,
- 49:24Speaker 1: Dustin Hoffman was out. 70s, 80s, man. The Graduate. Yeah. Fantastic.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Urban Cowboy. Yeah. Urban Cowboy. Marathon Man. All right. So
- 49:34Speaker 1: how many movies is that? We always lose count. Is
- 49:36Speaker 1: that six?
- 49:37Speaker 3: So we did Collateral. We did Top Gun, Maverick. We
- 49:40Speaker 3: did A Few Good Men. We did Rain Man.
- 49:44Speaker 1: We did... Six. Impossible Ghost Protocol. Am I missing one?
- 49:49Speaker 1: So we on six now? No, this should be seven. So... Oh,
- 49:54Speaker 1: you said Jerry Maguire. Right? Yeah. So that's six. So
- 49:58Speaker 1: we got four more. Okay, so yeah, you're on seven.
- 50:00Speaker 1: All right, let me get... Shoot, now it's getting tougher.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Let me get the first Mission Impossible. Okay. Okay. Yeah,
- 50:19Speaker 1: let me get that. Then I'm going to go Mission
- 50:20Speaker 1: Impossible Fallout. Okay, yeah, that was a good one. That
- 50:24Speaker 1: was a good one. Yeah. That was a good one.
- 50:27Speaker 1: All right, two more. So number nine, give me Top Gun.
- 50:43Speaker 1: You thought I wasn't gonna get Top Gun? Come on, man.
- 50:47Speaker 1: All right. I'm gonna go Minority Report. Oh, hell yeah.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I love Minority Report. Minority Report was good. It was
- 50:56Speaker 1: a great movie, man. It looked amazing, too.
- 50:59Speaker 2: It was a great... I remember leaving... We watched that
- 51:02Speaker 2: in college, me and Liz. I remember this time in college, man.
- 51:05Speaker 2: They would let us see the movie beforehand for like
- 51:07Speaker 2: two bucks.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Mm.
- 51:09Speaker 2: We saw that, I'm like, man, this one's gonna do good, y'all.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Y'all did y'all thing on this for me. I was
- 51:15Speaker 2: so happy to be able to see those movies for
- 51:17Speaker 2: two bucks.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Oh, man, come on, man. Because, man, at that time,
- 51:19Speaker 1: 12 bucks was like, man, come on. Yeah, $ 12, man.
- 51:23Speaker 1: And two bucks, I get the movie with the movie experience. Yeah.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Because blockbusters are still four bucks.
- 51:28Speaker 2: Right. Five bucks. All them bucks matter. Two versus five is,
- 51:32Speaker 2: that's three McChickens.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I remember when McChicken was 99 cents. It was clutch. Tom,
- 51:39Speaker 1: I ain't.
- 51:39Speaker 2: Going to hold you. I was just thinking about this
- 51:41Speaker 2: the other day. I might have died. If there wasn't
- 51:44Speaker 2: a dollar menu in the early 2000s, I might have died.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Two McChickens was dinner.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Kept us alive.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Tom, give me two McChickens with sweet and sour sauce.
- 51:58Speaker 1: That is dinner. 218 is dinner. We can't eat like
- 52:03Speaker 1: that now.
- 52:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I used to get a jumbo jack from Jack in
- 52:06Speaker 3: the Box for 99 cents.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Man, I used to go to Wendy's. Wendy's had a
- 52:11Speaker 1: great dollar menu. Yeah. Man, I'm feeling like a potato
- 52:14Speaker 1: in some chili today. Yeah. You could mix it up.
- 52:17Speaker 1: That Wendy's chili? Man, I was going to town. When
- 52:21Speaker 1: that finger was in there, I was like, I'm just
- 52:24Speaker 1: going to have to risk it. There was a finger
- 52:26Speaker 1: in the chili?
- 52:26Speaker 2: There was a finger in the chili at one time.
- 52:29Speaker 2: And some Wendy's, and I remember hearing the news and
- 52:32Speaker 2: I was just like, I'm not. You must have blocked
- 52:36Speaker 2: it out on purpose. I'm eating the chili.
- 52:39Speaker 3: You hear about that thing in the chili at Wendy's?
- 52:42Speaker 1: I've been like, like you at the dance. Tone, you
- 52:47Speaker 1: hear about the thing in the chili at Wendy's? Tone,
- 52:52Speaker 1: you know they got fingers in the chili at Wendy's. Nationwide.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I would have been Viola Davis to Meryl Streep.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Listen, sometimes you just got to have severed fingers and chilies.
- 53:09Speaker 2: If the cost is going to be a dollar and
- 53:10Speaker 2: the taste is the taste, then sometimes you just have
- 53:13Speaker 2: the risk I'm willing to take.
- 53:16Speaker 1: The risk I'm willing. Also, them double stacks from Wendy's, man. Yeah, man.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Saved my life. Dollar menus. Bring dollar menus back, y'all.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Yes.
- 53:25Speaker 1: People out here needing it. And then Subway, $ 5 foot long. Oh,
- 53:29Speaker 1: that's $ 5 foot long. That's two meals. Yeah. Oh, I
- 53:33Speaker 1: can't eat this all now. I could. But yeah. I can, hunger-wise. But.
- 53:38Speaker 1: But life-wise. Yeah. Man, cut that chicken breast in, man.
