- 0:00Speaker 1: Where Are You Crazy?
- 0:03Speaker 2: I don't even know what that song's from.
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's a faith thouled song. It was originally in the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Polar Express. That's not even in my news and note.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's Welcome to Girl's.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark of You podcast. I'm Megan, and
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm your longtime Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'm Wendy. I'm your former Hallmark hater. Can you hear
- 0:29Speaker 2: the like?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Do you want to change your tagline?
- 0:32Speaker 3: No?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Because I think it's true.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Oh not so former these days heavy on the hate.
- 0:40Speaker 2: No, it's back and forth, back and forth.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Today we're discussing where Are You Christmas? The second movie
- 0:50Speaker 1: in Hallmarks count out of the Christmas lineup, which originally
- 0:52Speaker 1: aired on Saturday, October twenty first, twenty twenty three. We
- 0:57Speaker 1: were just laughing our asses off because we love members
- 1:00Speaker 1: of our Girls Gone Hallmark community. We'd love for you
- 1:03Speaker 1: to become one of them. One of the places you
- 1:04Speaker 1: can do that is to follow us on Instagram. We
- 1:07Speaker 1: are at Girls Gone Hallmark. Wendy runs the show over
- 1:11Speaker 1: there and I handle our all Things Megan and Wendy
- 1:15Speaker 1: Instagram account, which is at Megan and Wendy.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Jump into our Facebook group maybe somebody might photoshop you
- 1:22Speaker 2: into a photo.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It literally choked on my lunch. It's such a good
- 1:28Speaker 1: time over there.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It's fun Girls Gone Hallmark on Facebook groups.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And speaking of the community that we have, I was
- 1:38Speaker 1: scrolling through our reviews this morning, which this is a
- 1:41Speaker 1: great time to remind the listeners that we love your
- 1:44Speaker 1: five star ratings and reviews. It's the best way to
- 1:46Speaker 1: support this podcast. It's completely free. Lets other people know
- 1:49Speaker 1: about us. But I read a review that I'm not
- 1:51Speaker 1: sure that we ever shared on the podcast, and I'd
- 1:54Speaker 1: like to read it because it is a delight Oh
- 1:56Speaker 1: okay good. I've been a fan of Hallmark movies for
- 1:59Speaker 1: years and last year discovered the Girl's Gone Hallmark podcast
- 2:02Speaker 1: and the wonderful community they've built as best friends. They're
- 2:05Speaker 1: back and forth, seem so spontaneous and is very funny.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But with all this humor, they provide high quality reviews.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They also have a great relationship with their listeners. It
- 2:13Speaker 1: really is a community, a very inclusive, open minded community.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yay, that's very nice.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeam, I love that review.
- 2:21Speaker 2: That's very nice.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I have a quick Hallmark News and note to share
- 2:26Speaker 1: the stars of the way home. Kyler Lee Sadie Lufflam Snow,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and Evan Williams appeared at Comic Con Hallmark's first ever
- 2:34Speaker 1: comic Con appearance, Wow to promote The Way Home. The
- 2:38Speaker 1: Way Home does have a waiver for filming and promoting
- 2:41Speaker 1: m HM. Season two quietly began filming in August and
- 2:45Speaker 1: is set to wrap in December. Now, they have not
- 2:48Speaker 1: announced an air date for season two, but methinks with
- 2:51Speaker 1: Hallmarks speedy editing, we could get a late January launch
- 2:56Speaker 1: of season two, much like we did of season one.
- 2:59Speaker 2: That is going to make me so happy. But I
- 3:03Speaker 2: just had like this gut punch, like I don't even
- 3:06Speaker 2: know what timeframe they're going to be visiting. Are we
- 3:12Speaker 2: going back to the eighteen hundreds, are we still in
- 3:14Speaker 2: the nineties? What's happening? What's happening? I don't know.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think it's a little bit of both.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I had no idea that they had a waiver and
- 3:22Speaker 2: were filming.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Neither did I. That's exciting. That great news.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It's exciting. Uh I'm guessing Ride is still on hold?
- 3:30Speaker 1: No comments. Okay, let's hear a synopsis for Where Are
- 3:34Speaker 1: You Christmas?
- 3:36Speaker 2: When Addie wishes for a whoops, When Addie wishes for
- 3:40Speaker 2: a year without Christmas. She wakes up in a world
- 3:43Speaker 2: of black and white. She must work together with the
- 3:46Speaker 2: Towns Mechanic to restore Christmas. Starring Lindsay Vonseca, Michael Rady,
- 3:54Speaker 2: Jim O'Hare, and Julie Warner.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Let's do some News and Notes Lindsay van Skast as Addie.
- 4:01Speaker 1: She had fifty acting credits, including Hallmarks, North to Home
- 4:05Speaker 1: and Next Stop Christmas. She also recently appeared in a
- 4:07Speaker 1: feature film called Spinning Gold, which was out in theaters
- 4:10Speaker 1: early this year, a biopic that stars Hallmark fan fave
- 4:13Speaker 1: Jeremy Jordan.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Off topic, Jeremy Jordan is Tory. Yeah, I was surprised.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I sent Meghan Jeremy Jordan's going to be in our neighborhood,
- 4:23Speaker 2: neighborhood in our adjacent town anyway, he will be performing.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And I sent it to Megan and she responded with, lol,
- 4:31Speaker 2: I was legit. Maybe I want to go see him singing.
- 4:35Speaker 1: What genre of music does he perform?
- 4:37Speaker 2: I have no idea to me. If I had to guess,
- 4:40Speaker 2: it's gonna be like big band, sort of like that
- 4:44Speaker 2: kind of vibe.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm getting Michael Booblet vibes.
- 4:49Speaker 2: He's real easy on the eyes. Ann is a great singer.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Well, if you want to go be the youngest person
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the room, let's go see Jeremy Jorden perform. All right, Ah,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I missed it.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I've missed it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It works so hard sometimes she doesn't even notice, all right.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Michael Rady place Hunter. Hunter is not a name that
- 5:17Speaker 2: we typically get in our Hallmark movies. I was pleasantly
- 5:21Speaker 2: surprised by that. Anyway. He has fifty five acting credits,
- 5:24Speaker 2: including Unexpected Grace from earlier this year. You can catch
- 5:28Speaker 2: Rady as Chris Childs on Magnum PI Fun Programming. Note.
- 5:33Speaker 2: We will be revisiting Michael Rady's A New Year's Resolution,
- 5:37Speaker 2: a movie I notoriously hated upon first watch back in
- 5:41Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, and that episode will drop on January second.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Jim Oair plays ADDIE's father. He has nearly two hundred
- 5:49Speaker 1: acting credits and is probably best known for his role
- 5:52Speaker 1: as Jerry on the comedy Parks and rec where he
- 5:54Speaker 1: appeared in one hundred twenty one episodes from twenty nineteen
- 5:58Speaker 1: to twenty fifteen. I entered acting credit nine to twenty fifteen.
- 6:02Speaker 4: What did you say?
- 6:03Speaker 1: Nineteen?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Oh? Okay, all right. Julie Warner plays mom Sharon. She
- 6:08Speaker 2: has fifty four acting credits and has been in movies
- 6:10Speaker 2: like Tommy Boy and Doc Hollywood.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I love Doc Hollywood.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Michael J.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Fox, Oh, I remember reading an article like that's when
- 6:18Speaker 2: he first noticed his symptoms from Parkinson. Parkinson's thank you
- 6:24Speaker 2: side note.
- 6:25Speaker 1: There is a documentary, Michael J. Fox Stuck. I watched
- 6:29Speaker 1: it on so GOVY Plus. I thought it was great.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Mandy Masten plays teacher Dana. Mandy has a short resume
- 6:35Speaker 1: with only fourteen acting credits. She appeared in one episode
- 6:39Speaker 1: of and Just Like That, the Sex and the City
- 6:42Speaker 1: reboot in twenty twenty two.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Andrew David Bridges is ADDIE's brother Connor. He's another up
- 6:49Speaker 2: and coming actor with just nineteen previous acting credits.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Dustin Reiker directed. This Guy's sent a ton of directing, producing,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and writing. Some of his directing work includes two It
- 7:00Speaker 1: Gets to Paradise, Next Stop, Christmas One Royal Holiday, as
- 7:03Speaker 1: well as this year's a Mary Scottish Christmas.
- 7:05Speaker 2: This guy's name is all over every project this year.
- 7:09Speaker 2: He's either a producer or he's a writer. He's a
- 7:11Speaker 2: director or Busy Busy Dude.
- 7:14Speaker 1: The writing credit is shared by Michael Rice and Timothy Curriac.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Michael Rice previously penned Sweet Carolina in twenty twenty one,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and Timothy Curyac has six previous writing credits, but this
- 7:25Speaker 1: does appear to be his first Hallmark gig.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Keith Nielsen to the costumes for this movie. Another fun
- 7:31Speaker 2: programming fact, We're gonna have Keith on the podcast on
- 7:34Speaker 2: November second to join us as we review Mystic Christmas,
- 7:39Speaker 2: where he also did the costumes for that movie.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Finally, this movie, much like Mystic Christmas, was filmed in
- 7:46Speaker 1: Connecticut in the spring. These movies were actually filmed back
- 7:50Speaker 1: to back in late March twenty twenty three. Really for
- 7:53Speaker 1: first impressions, m hmmm, mine is alternate title. You don't
- 7:57Speaker 1: know what you've got till it's gone.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Oh look at that. But they need Christmas in there somewhere. No, okay,
- 8:04Speaker 2: mine is you had me up until our two leads
- 8:08Speaker 2: kiss oh boo. There's a lot of polarizing thoughts on
- 8:13Speaker 2: this movie.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I'm surprised by the detractors.
- 8:17Speaker 2: There's a lot of people who really did not like
- 8:20Speaker 2: this movie. I saw some three out of ten stars.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Whoa, whoa, Yeah, no, no, I'd agree.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I don't think it's hateable by any means. Actually, spoiler
- 8:31Speaker 2: alert really enjoyed it.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Well.
- 8:33Speaker 1: My first like, which was my first impression until I
- 8:35Speaker 1: came up with my clever song title is even in
- 8:38Speaker 1: black and white, this movie shines.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Did A I write that for you?
- 8:43Speaker 1: It didn't.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Oh, it's all me nice. I thoroughly enjoyed how Hallmark
- 8:48Speaker 2: ventures out be on their typical formula for this movie.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Everyone's like, Ugh, the CGI wasn't good. Sometimes you can
- 8:56Speaker 1: tell that, Yeah, you're watching the Hallmark channel. The budget
- 9:01Speaker 1: for CGI isn't there. Yes, there were some distracting moments.
- 9:05Speaker 1: We can talk about that. But we're the first to
- 9:08Speaker 1: call out bad green screens and yeah, sure. I just
- 9:12Speaker 1: think sometimes perhaps we need to overlook that.
- 9:16Speaker 2: We have always said that sometimes when the details get
- 9:20Speaker 2: a little murky, we just put that to the wayside. Right.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I think this is one of those areas. I thought
- 9:29Speaker 2: the black and white scenes weren't flawless, but overall was
- 9:34Speaker 2: still pretty cool.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Very cool and sent the visual message, what story are
- 9:41Speaker 1: you telling with the visuals?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Right?
- 9:43Speaker 1: I loved it. Yeah, I also loved Jim.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Jima, Oh my god, it's so good.
- 9:49Speaker 1: His relationship with Addie and their challenges and their struggles.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I really loved that storyline and how they didn't really
- 9:58Speaker 1: understand each other and they had different kind of expectations
- 10:03Speaker 1: for each other. I thought he was really powerful in
- 10:07Speaker 1: that dad role.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I agree. I thought he brought a wonderful sense of
- 10:11Speaker 2: warmth and depth to the character, and he gave some passive,
- 10:17Speaker 2: aggressive digs that made me feel uncomfortable at home launching.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He was angry. Yeah, oh, what's a pine tree in
- 10:27Speaker 1: the living room?
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, he was great. He was great.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I liked the storyline of the parents feeling left behind
- 10:36Speaker 1: by their daughter. So often this is a little bit
- 10:39Speaker 1: of a play on the classic Hallmark we want you
- 10:42Speaker 1: to come home and run the family business, right. I
- 10:45Speaker 1: didn't feel like her parents wanted her to come home.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I didn't feel like they were upset that she had
- 10:51Speaker 1: moved away. They just wanted to be a part of
- 10:53Speaker 1: her life, in her in whatever way that meant. And
- 10:57Speaker 1: when they came to visit, they wanted to see her
- 11:00Speaker 1: life and what he'll be immersed in her life, and
- 11:03Speaker 1: she I think read that feeling as no I want
- 11:07Speaker 1: you to come be in our world.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:10Speaker 1: She wasn't seeing that they could both live their own lives,
- 11:15Speaker 1: but they could still be in each other, right.
- 11:17Speaker 2: And I think that story is something worth pursuing. And
- 11:25Speaker 2: we didn't get enough of that, I don't think instead
- 11:28Speaker 2: we got she works in the Christmas space, she does
- 11:34Speaker 2: not want to partake in Christmas activities when it actually
- 11:37Speaker 2: comes around, and then therefore looks like she's deserting her parents.
- 11:41Speaker 2: You know, like there's two stories there that are not
- 11:45Speaker 2: quite like connecting. For me, Lindsay Fonseca is a top
- 11:50Speaker 2: tier actor for me, I thought she was great in
- 11:55Speaker 2: this role. I'd love to see her in more Hallmark movies.
- 11:59Speaker 2: She's only in like maybe one a year, one every
- 12:02Speaker 2: other year. Yeah more. But to me, also, she does
- 12:07Speaker 2: have a lot of acting credits. I feel like maybe
- 12:10Speaker 2: Hallmark might just be like a holding space for her.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I think she might become like a bigger stars, a
- 12:17Speaker 2: launch pad perhaps maybe maybe.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Michael Freaking Rady, Michael freaking Rady, What's not to love?
- 12:26Speaker 1: In the beginning where he's obviously going through it, he's great, He's.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Sullen but not mean, right, and.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You could feel that the veteran who was struggling to
- 12:40Speaker 1: reintegrate into society, and how hard it was to live
- 12:45Speaker 1: up to the expectations that the community placed on him
- 12:50Speaker 1: taking over his grandfather's role, and then as he starts
- 12:54Speaker 1: to warm up both visually and personality wise. I think
- 13:00Speaker 1: he did a great job.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I will say it was really nice to see him
- 13:05Speaker 2: in what I believe is an against type role for him,
- 13:08Speaker 2: because he's like a bright sider all.
- 13:10Speaker 1: The time, boy next door, Yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Exactly, Like I can't help but think back to the
- 13:16Speaker 2: Nikky Deloache movie Love to the Rescue.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And you know, he's just like this nice guy and
- 13:22Speaker 1: golden retriever energy.
- 13:24Speaker 2: One hundred percent yes, And so it was nice to
- 13:27Speaker 2: see him as this like blue collar who's really struggling
- 13:31Speaker 2: with something. And I do have more to add to
- 13:35Speaker 2: that in my wish category, but I really enjoyed him
- 13:38Speaker 2: when he turned around when he first when Addie comes
- 13:42Speaker 2: into the shop to get her car fixed and he
- 13:43Speaker 2: turns around and he's like hey, I was like, oh,
- 13:49Speaker 2: I sent Megan like a melty emoji like I, Oh, yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I enjoy him a lot.
- 13:55Speaker 1: On a lighter note, hat tipped to costume designer Keith
- 13:58Speaker 1: Nielsen because Hunter's black and white outfit.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 14:03Speaker 1: He looks like he's in black and white. I understand
- 14:05Speaker 1: the costume is black and white. There's something about the
- 14:09Speaker 1: giant scarf and the way it's done and the gradients
- 14:11Speaker 1: in it.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Oh god, was that funny when he was all wrapped
- 14:15Speaker 2: up and he was wearing sunglasses at the school? Oh
- 14:17Speaker 2: my god, I laughed so hard. I laughed so hard.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think that's a genius costuming. It looks black and white.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Yeah, do you have anything else you liked?
- 14:27Speaker 1: I just said, this is going to be the season
- 14:30Speaker 1: of celebrating big risks.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Oh, look, not all right on homemark on homework?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah, what you wish for?
- 14:38Speaker 2: So, in my opinion, it seemed like repairing ADDIE's relationship
- 14:43Speaker 2: with her father would have been the solution to her
- 14:47Speaker 2: restoring her color. Yes, rather than finding true love or
- 14:51Speaker 2: like whatever the angle was there, there were deep wounds
- 14:55Speaker 2: between Addie and her dad, and I just think it
- 14:58Speaker 2: would have made more sense.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Like that perspective. I think also, a story that deserves
- 15:04Speaker 1: more weight than the love story is a Hunter as
- 15:08Speaker 1: a vet, Oh my god, struggling in society.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yes, I have lots of thoughts on that, and I.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Think the resolution to that is too quick. That's going
- 15:16Speaker 1: to be an ongoing thing, and I wish it was
- 15:19Speaker 1: more like I think, I wish it was more than
- 15:22Speaker 1: I made a new friend and now I'm going to
- 15:24Speaker 1: be okay. The town needs me, so I'm going to
- 15:27Speaker 1: be okay. I think it's okay to talk about mental
- 15:30Speaker 1: health and say hey, I'm I'm getting help totally. One
- 15:33Speaker 1: of the ways I'm doing that is, yes, I'm immersing
- 15:36Speaker 1: myself into the town because I can't hide in my
- 15:39Speaker 1: shop all day long, right, but I need more help
- 15:42Speaker 1: than this. You know what?
- 15:44Speaker 2: That is so interesting as we have yet to see
- 15:46Speaker 2: a Hallmark movie kind of tackle mental illness. Right, I'm
- 15:52Speaker 2: just going through my file folder my brains. Nothing comes
- 15:55Speaker 2: to mind, And this would have been an excellent opportunity.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I feel that he was under used in this role.
- 16:03Speaker 2: This movie could have been about him. I mean, it
- 16:05Speaker 2: could have gone either way. Like I think, like you said, like.
- 16:10Speaker 1: We didn't need the brother's proposal. That could have been
- 16:12Speaker 1: cut perfectly, fine, storyline could have been cut exactly.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I just think that if they would have given his
- 16:20Speaker 2: struggles more depth, it would have resulted in like a
- 16:25Speaker 2: richer ending.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And I almost have this vision of this movie where
- 16:30Speaker 1: him returning to color isn't a permanent solution, like he
- 16:34Speaker 1: kind of is glitching between color and because it's not
- 16:38Speaker 1: a I remember Christmas with my grandfather. Those happy memories
- 16:42Speaker 1: have healed me.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Right, it's a process. Right.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I did at times find the black and white to
- 16:49Speaker 1: be distracting. Doesn't mean I didn't like it. I just
- 16:53Speaker 1: there were moments where I thought, I can't stop looking
- 16:55Speaker 1: at her black and white hand touching his outfit in color. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: it's I don't know that there's necessarily a better way
- 17:03Speaker 1: to do that. It's just something worth noting.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 2: So at the top and my first impression, I said
- 17:09Speaker 2: that this movie had me until the two kissed. I
- 17:13Speaker 2: absolutely hated that Addie kiss Hunter because that's what she
- 17:16Speaker 2: thought the solution was to getting her color back.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he needed to give her a harder time about that.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I think so too.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I just hated that it didn't work and now that
- 17:27Speaker 1: kiss is meaningless.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just I felt terrible for him.
- 17:32Speaker 1: And I think that was an interesting scene where he
- 17:34Speaker 1: was like, we don't know what the solution is. We
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't know how you're going to get your color back,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but we'll get through it together. Like, if this is
- 17:39Speaker 1: the way it is, we'll find a path forward, right,
- 17:42Speaker 1: instead of being like, there's only one path forward and
- 17:45Speaker 1: it's got to be me getting my color back, right.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Okay, So I'm trying to think back to the chronological order.
- 17:52Speaker 2: She was one of the last, right too, and tell
- 17:57Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong. It was truly because she hadn't
- 17:59Speaker 2: ben true love yet, right.
- 18:01Speaker 5: She said, I have another Christmas wish. I look to
- 18:03Speaker 5: kiss you for the right reasons this time, and she
- 18:06Speaker 5: changes color. Was it the on screen chemistry of the
- 18:09Speaker 5: kiss or the reasoning behind the kiss?
- 18:11Speaker 2: Both?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Okay, I don't think there, I don't.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I don't think they lacked chemistry. I did think the
- 18:19Speaker 2: kiss was kind of not great, but I didn't like
- 18:23Speaker 2: in the story that it.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Was her kiss finding love. Yes, yeah, it doesn't really
- 18:29Speaker 1: make sense.
- 18:30Speaker 2: No, it doesn't with the rest of the story. No,
- 18:33Speaker 2: I'm telling you, I enjoyed all this movie until like
- 18:36Speaker 2: that scene and going forward.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Yeah, because I think we could have gotten his like
- 18:41Speaker 1: you're beautiful in any color. They could have had their
- 18:43Speaker 1: kiss rearranged. The sequence of scenes and her resolution with
- 18:48Speaker 1: her father. She could have already had her moment with
- 18:51Speaker 1: Hunter m They're good. He's good with her, she's good
- 18:55Speaker 1: with who she is, and her moment with her dad
- 18:57Speaker 1: is what.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yes, I agree, I just think that was a real misstep.
- 19:02Speaker 2: But Okay, I have another comment and I don't know
- 19:05Speaker 2: where to put it at, so I'm gonna talk about
- 19:07Speaker 2: it here. Hm.
- 19:09Speaker 3: We have this.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Story that is devoid of religion, and I feel like
- 19:15Speaker 2: I could see how this Christmas movie might not land
- 19:19Speaker 2: with like Hallmark's biggest fans. Really yeah, but.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Most of their movies are not faith based.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I know, but we're talking about a religious holiday. Yes,
- 19:32Speaker 2: that is maybe only seen as like celebration devoid of
- 19:37Speaker 2: religion because Leo's look at the bigger picture. If Christmas
- 19:40Speaker 2: was gone, then what's that say about Christianity?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeh, that's an excellent point.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So, and I know like they're not they weren't touching
- 19:49Speaker 2: that with this movie at all. But I think there's
- 19:52Speaker 2: some people who saw this movie and they were like,
- 19:53Speaker 2: WHOA hold up, this doesn't make any sense.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an interesting point.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I have seen some pushback on this.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Movie, and to me, I remember the times with their
- 20:04Speaker 1: opinion I've liked lots of dislike lots of movies that
- 20:07Speaker 1: other people have liked. That's what creativity is and entertainment is.
- 20:11Speaker 1: But what's interesting to me is that the pushback that
- 20:14Speaker 1: I've seen on this movie I don't see on every
- 20:16Speaker 1: other Christmas movie. And I don't see the difference. Tell
- 20:19Speaker 1: meymore like people talking about, oh, we were pushing Christmas
- 20:23Speaker 1: on this town. Yeah, every Hallmark this year is making
- 20:26Speaker 1: forty movies. One of them is about Hanukah, right, thirty
- 20:29Speaker 1: nine Christmas movie. So this is an issue that you
- 20:32Speaker 1: actually have with the Hallmark isn't inclusive in their movie
- 20:35Speaker 1: making of people of other faith or beliefs, or no
- 20:39Speaker 1: faith or belief or they don't celebrate anything. Why are
- 20:43Speaker 1: we picking this one to be bothered by?
- 20:44Speaker 2: Got it? So we're saying like, oh, we have this
- 20:47Speaker 2: town of people who only believe in Christmas.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Yes, but I don't know that I will admit that
- 20:53Speaker 1: as a person who celebrates Christmas, I probably don't have
- 20:56Speaker 1: the right perspective because when I'm like, ooh, a town
- 20:59Speaker 1: that's all in on Christmas. My streets all in on Christmas? Right,
- 21:03Speaker 1: the decorations go off. If we had a person move
- 21:06Speaker 1: in who was like, we don't celebrate cool. Would that
- 21:11Speaker 1: make them uncomfortable that for six weeks out of the year,
- 21:15Speaker 1: our entire street is lit up like the Fourth of July.
- 21:18Speaker 2: All night long. I mean it might, right, Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 1: So that's an interesting thing. I have not really looked
- 21:24Speaker 1: deeply into how like this town is all about Christmas
- 21:28Speaker 1: and the whole thing is like they're at the Christmas
- 21:29Speaker 1: paget and all the town's getting their memories back and
- 21:31Speaker 1: getting their color back. But we don't really see the
- 21:34Speaker 1: what's happening to the other members of town who may
- 21:38Speaker 1: not be all in on that and how this affects them, right,
- 21:41Speaker 1: And what would have been interesting is if there were
- 21:43Speaker 1: people in color walking around while the rest of the
- 21:47Speaker 1: town was in black and white to symbolize that.
- 21:50Speaker 2: That would have been cooler. Yeah, I can see that.
- 21:54Speaker 2: But for people to like have a bone to pick
- 21:56Speaker 2: with this movie because of that, Like, like you said,
- 21:58Speaker 2: we get so many movies that are based around the
- 22:01Speaker 2: Christmas holiday.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I call it count Down to Christmas exactly.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Got a DM I want to read it to you,
- 22:08Speaker 2: I was responding to. I think it was a three
- 22:12Speaker 2: point five star out of ten rating on this movie,
- 22:15Speaker 2: and I wrote, like, this rating is blowing my mind,
- 22:18Speaker 2: and the person responded back, I'm just going to keep
- 22:21Speaker 2: them anonymous at this.
- 22:23Speaker 1: The person who reviewed it is not the person you're talking.
- 22:25Speaker 2: To, right, they shared it, Yes, exactly, so, she says
- 22:29Speaker 2: I think the potentially racist elements brought it down for her,
- 22:32Speaker 2: the person who originally reviewed it, but then goes on
- 22:35Speaker 2: to say, when I saw those two scenes, I cringed
- 22:39Speaker 2: because I knew people would read into that, even though
- 22:42Speaker 2: in context it doesn't have anything to do with race
- 22:45Speaker 2: in my opinion. But you can find an allegory anywhere
- 22:48Speaker 2: if you're looking hard enough. So I'm not even quite
- 22:52Speaker 2: certain which two scenes she might be referring to. There
- 22:56Speaker 2: was one where teacher Dana like wiped Michael Rady's face.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yes, it's like it doesn't come off.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Right, and that felt very reminiscent of something, and I
- 23:13Speaker 2: can't put my finger on it, like something I may
- 23:15Speaker 2: have seen before in terms of people of color, But
- 23:21Speaker 2: I don't have enough background or backstory on it to
- 23:24Speaker 2: complete the thought.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I didn't read racists to me. I would be curious
- 23:29Speaker 1: to hear someone's argument about scenes that might have been
- 23:32Speaker 1: specifically racist. But that wasn't my read.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, me neither. But then I keep questioning myself when
- 23:40Speaker 2: am I missing? Like? Am I missing it because I'm
- 23:42Speaker 2: a white woman? Right? I would love to dig into
- 23:46Speaker 2: this movie deeper, like yes, and better understanding from the
- 23:51Speaker 2: rioters what the initial goal was like maybe things were cut,
- 23:55Speaker 2: maybe they weren't. I don't you know? Yes, So anyway,
- 23:59Speaker 2: are you ready for digite that I am?
- 24:01Speaker 1: That Jack Frost drink that she drinks in the beginning
- 24:03Speaker 1: with her friend is horrifyingly blue.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I would never I was like, that would turn my
- 24:09Speaker 2: mouth blue, and then that would be a real look.
- 24:11Speaker 1: There's no way that. Also in the opening scene ADDIE's
- 24:14Speaker 1: giving his feet, she looks like a hologram.
- 24:15Speaker 2: That green screen is real bad. It's real bad.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I was like, what is she a hollow ground? Didn't
- 24:21Speaker 1: look like I was like, are you Tupac?
- 24:26Speaker 2: That's the real throwback.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I couldn't think of a single other hologram moment.
- 24:31Speaker 2: My gosh. At one point I could see Lindsey von
- 24:35Speaker 2: Seca's tattoo, which is behind her ear here. Her hair
- 24:39Speaker 2: was down in almost every scene, and at one point,
- 24:42Speaker 2: like I could see the hair was moved and she
- 24:44Speaker 2: has a tattoo behind her ear, so I googled it
- 24:47Speaker 2: and she she does. In the home where ADDIE's parents live,
- 24:52Speaker 2: She's sitting at the kitchen table with her mom and
- 24:55Speaker 2: there's this round wooden tray in the middle of the table.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I have the same one it's from. I was like, hey,
- 25:02Speaker 2: I have that and this one I can't take credit for.
- 25:05Speaker 2: But Sleepy Kitty Pop pointed out on Twitter that in
- 25:08Speaker 2: the scene where Addie and her father talk in her bedroom,
- 25:12Speaker 2: the bed comforter is green at one angle and then
- 25:15Speaker 2: black and white in another.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I saw that comment and I actually did notice that.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Did you.
- 25:21Speaker 2: I'm going to add a photo to our show notes
- 25:23Speaker 2: if you want to see what it What it.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Looks like, Yeah, a little green screen glitching.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Sometimes she can't get it all right. The turnaround time
- 25:29Speaker 2: on these is you.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Can just imagine the editor watching it back. They're like,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna let it go. I gotta let it go.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Exactly love it and leave it. Are you ready to
- 25:37Speaker 2: rate it? I am.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I gave it four stars.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Three point seventy five.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I thought this was a solid, solid attempt.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I'm really floored that people like checking it twice better
- 25:46Speaker 2: than this movie.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Anyway, no way. We've had so much fun kicking off
