- 0:06Speaker 1: Good morning, Mafia. It's Monday, October 5th. This is the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Morning Charge, your daily 10-minute or less Buffalo Bills news hit.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm Aaron Quinn, here with Colin Ritchie, bringing you everything
- 0:19Speaker 1: you need to know before you start your day. Let's
- 0:21Speaker 1: get right into it. The Bills fall to the Patriots 29-26.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Buffalo drops a divisional heartbreaker at high mark after trading
- 0:30Speaker 1: blows back and forth in the fourth quarter, including a
- 0:33Speaker 1: go-ahead 34-yard touchdown pass from Josh Allen to Keion Coleman.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Drake May answered with an 8-play, 73-yard touchdown drive with
- 0:40Speaker 1: a 2-point conversion to put New England up 29-26 with
- 0:43Speaker 1: a minute and 50 left. On Buffalo's final drive, Allen
- 0:47Speaker 1: was intercepted by Craig Woodson at the New England 19-yard
- 0:50Speaker 1: line with a minute and 14 remaining to seal the loss.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Drake May was 22-37 for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns
- 0:56Speaker 1: with 1 interception and a 97.7 QB rating. Josh Allen
- 1:04Speaker 1: was 23-33 for 253 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: an 89.6 rating. James Cook rushed for 75 yards on
- 1:12Speaker 1: 12 carries. That's good for 6.3 yards per attempt and
- 1:15Speaker 1: 1 touchdown. New England ran 73 plays to Buffalo's 54
- 1:19Speaker 1: and owned the time of possession, 33 minutes and 41
- 1:22Speaker 1: seconds to 26 minutes and 19 seconds. Keon Coleman was
- 1:26Speaker 1: one of the lone bright spots and had a monster
- 1:28Speaker 1: game with 6 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Khalil Shakir caught 7 of 8 targets for 82 yards.
- 1:36Speaker 1: With his second quarter rushing touchdown, Josh Allen recorded his
- 1:39Speaker 1: 88th career scrimmage touchdown, officially surpassing Thurman Thomas and Andre
- 1:43Speaker 1: Reid as the most in Buffalo Bills franchise history. Let's
- 1:49Speaker 1: dive into Joe Brady's postgame press conference. When asked about
- 1:52Speaker 1: the game-selling interception by Craig Woodson with a minute 14 remaining,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Brady immediately put the blame on his own shoulders. He
- 1:59Speaker 1: admitted that New England brought a front twist that generated
- 2:01Speaker 1: a free runner at Josh Allen, and Josh Allen admitted
- 2:04Speaker 1: that he should have thrown the ball away. But Brady
- 2:06Speaker 1: stated plainly, I got to have a better play call
- 2:08Speaker 1: in that situation to put him in a position to succeed.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Another major takeaway from Brady's press conference was his response
- 2:16Speaker 1: regarding Dalton Kincaid. Kincaid finished with just two targets, the
- 2:20Speaker 1: quietest game of his career, and Brady didn't sugarcoat it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: He said flat out, quote, There's no reason that Don
- 2:26Speaker 1: Kincaid should ever have two targets. That falls on me.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Now Brady did point out that Josh made the right reads.
- 2:32Speaker 1: New England was jumping Kincaid's route underneath, which opened up
- 2:36Speaker 1: Keon Coleman downfield for 116 yards and a touchdown on
- 2:39Speaker 1: the day. But Brady knows that if 86 isn't the
- 2:41Speaker 1: focal point of the passing attack, the offense loses its
- 2:44Speaker 1: cheat code in the middle of the field. One of
- 2:46Speaker 1: the more interesting parts of the press conference came when
- 2:48Speaker 1: reporters asked why rookie cornerback Maxwell Harrison wasn't benched or
- 2:52Speaker 1: rotated out after New England targeted him repeatedly. Brady gave
- 2:56Speaker 1: a passionate defense of his culture in Jim Leonard's defensive room.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He said, as soon as a player believes that we've
- 3:02Speaker 1: lost trust in him, we've lost him. Brady made it
- 3:05Speaker 1: clear that he refuses to operate in a reactionary world
- 3:08Speaker 1: where a young player gets yanked in the second he
- 3:10Speaker 1: loses a rep. He's backing Harrison and Igbenosen to build
- 3:14Speaker 1: competitive stamina throughout adversity rather than shaking their confidence mid-game.
- 3:20Speaker 1: To wrap it up, Brady gave us a peek into
- 3:22Speaker 1: his head coaching mindset. When asked about how he'll process
- 3:25Speaker 1: his first regular season loss, he gave a fantastic quote.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The last three times I've left the stadium, I've left
- 3:32Speaker 1: pissed off. Win or loss. His message to the locker
- 3:35Speaker 1: room was simple. Great teams shouldn't have to lose to learn.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But now that they did, Nobody's allowed to point fingers
- 3:41Speaker 1: or look for excuses.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Injury update. Several Bills were in and out of the
- 3:47Speaker 2: blue medical tent on Sunday. The first and most notable
- 3:51Speaker 2: was wide receiver DJ Moore, who appeared to re-aggravate his
- 3:54Speaker 2: shoulder injury from two weeks ago. He was first questionable
- 3:58Speaker 2: and later doubtful to return and ultimately did not come
- 4:01Speaker 2: back for the rest of the game. Adam Schefter reported
- 4:04Speaker 2: that it is not considered a long-term issue as of
- 4:07Speaker 2: right now. Slot corner D. Alford injured his ankle in
- 4:11Speaker 2: practice squad call-up to Corey Couch, was ruled doubtful to
- 4:14Speaker 2: return with a hamstring injury, leaving the Bills very thin
- 4:17Speaker 2: at corner since Christian Benford was already inactive. Ed Oliver
- 4:21Speaker 2: injured his knee and was ruled questionable to return. Landon
- 4:24Speaker 2: Jackson injured his knee but was cleared to return and
- 4:27Speaker 2: did come back later in the game. The Bills failed
- 4:33Speaker 2: to score on a two-point conversion yesterday, bringing their season
- 4:36Speaker 2: total to 0-2. Last season, the team went just 2-for-9
- 4:40Speaker 2: on two-point attempts. Overall, the Bills are 3-for-12, or 25%,
- 4:46Speaker 2: since Joe Brady became the offensive coordinator. For context, from
- 4:49Speaker 2: 2020 to 2023, under Brian Dable and Ken Dorsey, the
- 4:53Speaker 2: team was 8-for-13, a much more palatable 61.5% success rate.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Other stats, the rookie got on the board yesterday, TJ Parker,
- 5:04Speaker 2: recorded his first career sack and first career forced fumble,
- 5:08Speaker 2: which was recovered by Greg Gaines. Aaron mentioned Allen is
- 5:11Speaker 2: up to 88 scrimmage touchdowns, which includes 86 on the ground.
- 5:16Speaker 2: That ties him with Priest Holmes for the 16th most
- 5:19Speaker 2: in NFL history. Around the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts moved
- 5:26Speaker 2: to 2-2 with a 30-13 victory over the Washington Commanders
- 5:30Speaker 2: in London. The Houston Texans fall to 0-4 to start
- 5:34Speaker 2: the year, losing a Battle of Texas shootout 34-30 against
- 5:39Speaker 2: the Cowboys. The Baltimore Ravens improve to 3-1 with a
- 5:43Speaker 2: 24-18 win over the Titans, who are now 0-4. Lamar Jackson, though,
- 5:48Speaker 2: is going to be day-to-day after suffering an ankle injury.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Tyler Huntley played the rest of the game after Jackson exited.
- 5:55Speaker 2: The Jaguars move to 3-1 with a 22-17 victory over
- 5:57Speaker 2: the Cincinnati Bengals. The Jets fall to 1-3 after they
- 6:03Speaker 2: lost 23-12 to the Bears. That was with Tyson Bajent
- 6:06Speaker 2: starting at quarterback. The Dolphins fall to 0-4 while the
- 6:10Speaker 2: Vikings stay perfect 4-0 with an ugly 15-10 win. Vikings
- 6:14Speaker 2: kick five field goals in that game to eke out
- 6:17Speaker 2: with a victory. The Chargers also fall to 0-4. They
- 6:20Speaker 2: lost 30-23 to the Seahawks. The Broncos are now at 500, 2-2.
- 6:27Speaker 2: after losing 24-14 to the 49ers, who also remain perfect
- 6:31Speaker 2: at 4-0. And in the battle of the two undefeated
- 6:35Speaker 2: AFC West teams, it's the Chiefs who squeeze by with
- 6:38Speaker 2: a 30-27 win over the Raiders, who are still an
- 6:41Speaker 2: impressive 3-1 to start the season. Missed the Cover 1
